Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, actors and people in general have paid their tributes to the Bollywood actor Om Puri, who passed away in Mumbai, for his efforts for the normalization of Indo-Pak ties.
Nawaz Sharif expressed his sorrow over the demise of the veteran actor. Paying homage to the acclaimed actor, 66, the premier said that Om Puri delivered some stellar performances in mainstream commercial Pakistani, Indian movies and elevated the status of Indian Cinema through his natural talent.
PM Nawaz said that late Om Puri made significant contribution in linking the cultural ties between India and Pakistan and refused to succumb to the pressure of anti peace lobbies.
Further, the prime minister prayed on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan for patience and forbearance for the family of Om Puri to bear this irreparable loss.
Om Puri acted in a Pakistani film ‘Actor In Law’, which was released late last year. The late actor played the role of Pakistani in several Bollywood and international movies, with his latest one as Maulana Sahib in the Bollywood movie Bajrangi Bhaijan. The actor regularly participated in Pakistan film festivals. Om Puri passed away on Friday January 6th, the actor succumbed to a major heart attack and was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai, India.
Since the URI attacks, relations between India and Pakistan are not getting any better. India banned Pakistani artists post the rising conflict and Pakistan in return banned Bollywood movies. Pakistani cinemas faced huge loss since we don’t produce enough movies. Cinemas then resumed screening of Indian films last month, but Indian distributors were reluctant to screen their films in Pakistan which did not worked in favor of our cinema.
Recent reports suggest, Indian movies might return to Pakistan soon because Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday constituted a committee to look into the matter. Nawaz Sharif has formed a special committee comprising of Maryam Aurangezeb, Azmat Ranjha, Irfan Siddiqui and the Film Censor Board Chairman Mubashar Hassan, who will all be part of the committee that will give clearance to Indian movies.
According to Images, the information ministry, in consultation with the commerce ministry, has prepared a procedure for allowing import of two to three Indian movies per month through NOCs for their screening in Pakistani cinemas. So, Fans of Mahira can excite now because this might be a positive turn for the release of Raees in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is one of the leaders in the world who is active on Twitter and occasionally makes statements through Twitter.
The Prime Minister has been following his party, charitable hospitals and party leaders on Twitter, but now everyone has been unfollowed from his account.
The unfollowed people include close party leaders, but so far no reason has emerged for unfollowing them, whether it was done by mistake or intentionally. No statement has come out regarding this.
Remember that the number of followers of Prime Minister Imran Khan on Twitter is 12 million.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is ranked 10th in the list of most followed world leaders, while US President Donald Trump on 1st, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2nd and newly elected US President Joe Biden on 7th.
The Prime Minister was following a number of important personalities of the country and abroad also including federal ministers, officials and close friends.
What will be the strategy for negotiations with the opposition and the Lahore Sit-in? How will the political tension between the government and the opposition be reduced?
Prime Minister Imran Khan has called the Governor of Punjab to Islamabad for an important meeting. Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar will give suggestions to the Prime Minister in the context of the political situation.
Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar also held important consultations with Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar regarding the situation .

At the same time, opposition members of the National and Provincial Assemblies are sending their resignations to the party leadership.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has suggested those interested in Sufism to watch the Turkish drama Yunus Emre.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted on social networking site Twitter in which he said that those who are interested in Sufism, I strongly suggest that they must watch the Turkish drama ‘Yunus Emre’ which is being aired on PTV.
Following the record-breaking popularity of the Turkish drama ‘Ertugrul Ghazi’ in Pakistan, the Urdu dubbing of another Turkish series ‘Yunus Emre’ is being aired on the official channel PTV under the name ‘Raah-e-Ishq’ at the request of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Yunus Emre is dubbed in Urdu and being aired on Pakistan’s official channel PTV two days a week under the name Raah-e-Ishq.
It should be noted that the 44-episode and two-season Turkish series Yunus Emre was aired on a Turkish channel in 2015.
In May this year, Senator Faisal Javed shared a post on Twitter saying that after Ertugrul Ghazi Prime Minister Imran Khan wants Turkish drama Yunus Emre to be broadcasted.
#KnowingIslamicHistory After @DirilisDizisi Ertugrul PM Imran Khan wants Yunus Emre يونس امره (Aşkin Yolculuğu) to be telecast in Pakistan. Faisal Javed further wrote that Emre was a Turkish Sufi poet and dervish who dedicated his life to Allah.
In his tweet, Imran Khan said that he is praying for the speedy and complete recovery of Maulana Tariq Jameel from Corona.
It should be noted that well-known scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel was also diagnosed with corona virus yesterday.
In a statement issued on social media, Maulana Tariq Jameel said that he was unwell from the last few days due to which his Corona test came out positive.
The well-known scholar said that he has been admitted to the hospital after consulting the doctors and prayers are requested from everyone.
The generation now knows Imran Khan as the politician and the one after this will probably remember him as the Prime Minister of Pakistan but the one before these knows that Imran Khan has not only been a sports and youth icon but has been the reason to cause tachycardia to millions with his charm and handsomeness. Even today he carries an aura that pulls the crowd to him and has been the reason for his followership of millions.
Since becoming the Prime Minister Mr. Khan has been working his best to improve the International relations of the country. He has visited KSA, UAE and now he is in Malaysia on the official visit. He talked about the economic conditions of the country with the Prime Minister of Malaysia. While the two Prime Ministers and the first lady of Malaysia were having some pictures clicked, a cute moment happened. The first lady asked our Prime Minister if he would permit her to hold his hand for the photo and as sweet Imran Khan is with his admirers, he obliged. Here is the cutest clip of the day from the Internet:
Imran Khan, may you like him or not, its a fact that he has fans all over the world!
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he congratulates his economic team on bringing down the price of sugar.
Prime Minister Imran Khan wrote on social networking site Twitter that sugar was being sold at an average of Rs 81 per kg across the country vs Rs 102 per kg a month ago.
MashaAllah Sugar is selling at a national average of Rs 81 per kg vs Rs102 per kg a month back. I want to congratulate my team for bringing the sugar prices down through a multi pronged strategy.
Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has announced a fund for film revival and welfare of senior artists. This is a good news for the industry and finally government has realized its duty towards cultural development.
The statement released by PM Office said:
“Directions of the Prime Minister regarding Pakistan’s Film Industry
Art and artists are those trustees of the bright traditions of the Pakistani society which have played a significant role in keeping alive the national identity, culture and heritage at the global level besides carving a niche for Pakistan among the alive and conscientious nations.
Reviving the film Industry was the our top most obligation. It gives me immense pleasure to announce the biggest ever special package in the history of Pakistan for the artists and workers associated with this industry which surely is the fulfillment of yet another promise like our other pledges. Unfortunately Pakistan and its self-respecting people have witnessed heinous acts of terrorism in the streets, mosques and public places during the last many years. But by the grace of God owing to the sacrifices of our valiant forces and security agencies and unswerving determination of the nation, terrorism has been stopped in its tracks and incidents of terrorism have been considerably reduced.
The recent history is witness to the fact how enemies of Islam and the country targeted the innocent minds with misleading concepts which promoted terrorism in the country. The comity of nations interpreted our distorted identity according to their own perceptions.
The youth who are the future of this country remained captive of a scary mindset. To extricate the youth from that horrible situation and terrorism, we are trying to provide alternate avenues of entertainment to them. We are aware of the fact that quality entertainment revolves around availability of playing fields, recreations parks, tourism and cultural activities, the nucleus of which is the revival of the film industry.
Today I feel proud to accord status of Industry to the amorous body of films on the recommendations of the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, which is the continuation of the policy that we announced in 1992. Apart from this, relaxation in financial laws pertaining to films and exemption from taxes should also be given. The domain of art and literature includes all those honorable people we call writers and poets. A comprehensive package will also be prepared for these honorable personalities and fine arts. Under this package National Film and Broadcasting Commission, National Film Institute and an Academy will be established that will have a studio equipped with latest technology and gadgets compatible with the requirements of the modern times. For the welfare and financial assistance to the artists I also announce the establishment of Prime Minister’s Artist Welfare Fund so that the dignity and self-respect of these talented individuals could be safeguarded.
Each nook and corner of this land of the pure testifies to the beauty of God. In this context the foreign film makers will be given special concession for making films on cultural, historic and tourists spots so that through this medium tourism at the national and international level can be promoted.
Special concession will be given on the import of equipment related to the film industry so that the bright and beautiful face of Pakistan can be shown to the world and the Pakistani film producers have all the facilities available at home for which they have to go abroad. We have to go even beyond this with a view to ensure that every person connected with this industry is duly encouraged. In this context the government has decided to accord complete exemption on entertainment tax. More concessions will be made in regards to the income related to film and entertainment. Special benefits and concessions will also be allowed on investments in such ventures which help in introducing our dignified past, exemplary heritage, worth emulating culture, distinguished literature and infallible beauty of tourism to the youth who are architects of our future.
To help the film and Broadcasting Industry and the fine arts I announce the institution of Prime Minister’s Film Finance Fund which I am sure is a rare step. I am sanguine that the inclusion of the film and Broadcasting Industry in the national milieu will give further boost to the Pakistan economy which is already striding on the path of sustained economic development. I am confident that these steps taken at the level of the government will go a long way in removing the difficulties and impediments connected to the film Industry. I am also proud of the fact that our land has produced such personalities in the field of fine arts whose imprint will help different nations to move ahead for all times to come. I am hopeful that our youth, like in other fields, will spare no effort to make their contribution in the domain of films to win laurels for Pakistan. In this endeavor they will always find the elected government standing with them. I direct the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage to present this package in implementable form for the approval of the government, after consultations with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant institutions.”
The package is based on recommendations by the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, and the PM has directed the ministry to present a draft in consultation with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant departments to the government for approval.
Whether the packages reach the said parties or not time will tell. For the time being it is a good news for film industry and artists.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has welcomed US President-elect Joe Biden’s intentions to target dirty money.
“I welcome the intentions of US President-elect Joe Biden to target illicit wealth,” the prime minister said in a statement on Twitter.
The Prime Minister said that developing countries are falling into poverty at the hands of corrupt elites and these elites transfer money to rich countries through money laundering.
I welcome US President elect Biden's declared intent of a policy targeting dirty money. Developing countries are being impoverished by their corrupt elites who launder money to richer countries and offshore tax havens.https://t.co/40GcFhprtz
In response to the PM’s statement, PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb said that Imran Khan should tell the nation the secret of Aleema Baji’s assets abroad instead of flattering Biden, before welcoming Biden’s statement he should respond to foreign funding case.
Maryam Aurangzeb also said that Imran Khan your illicit wealth will not hid in the theft of flour and sugar. Imran Khan, must tell whose money is behind Bani Gala Palace, Zaman Park and his luxurious life?
So, Lux Style Awards 2018 were held last night and it got me thinking. Umm! Wait! I’ll put my thoughts aside and let the biggest star of the industry explain the situation. So here are some kind words via Noman Ijaz:
First of all, the show must change its name. LSA is not Lux Style Awards anymore. It has genetically morphed into Lux Social Media Awards or if you really want to disclose the real name, I think it would be Lux Sasta Award. Our award shows are sidelining talent for ages but you have to be somewhat discreet, giving out awards on the basis of social media memes is not a criterion. Here are some of the wins which no one can digest:
Best Actress Film-Mahira Khan For Verna:
We know you have to give her some award if she is attending the event but look at it yourself. Can you justify it? Verna was an average movie and Mahira’s acting was average too. While on the other hand, Mehwish Hayat won millions of hearts with her portrayal of Amal in the blockbuster Punjab Nahin Jaongi. Same is the case with Uzma Hassan, her acting was appreciated in Arth-The Destination by everyone. But since these two are not our favourites, we will give this award to Mahiar Khan since she has come to attend the event.
Best Singer Female Film-Aima Baig For Sadqa:
Sadqa was an Okay Okay song from Chupan Chupai. The same category had two more nominations which were far more deserving. Aima herself was also nominated for Kaif o Suroor from Na Maloom Afraad 2 which was a much popular song than Sadqa and the other was Bagiya by Jonita Ghandi. Bagiya became more famous than the film Rangreza itself. But well the LSA was again trying to surprise us.
Best TV Play-Baaghi:
Was Baaghi a hit? Yes! Were a large number of people loving it while it aired? Yes! Did it get good TRPs? Yes! But let me remind you this category had Sang e Mar Mar and Muqabil in it too. Muqabil, a drama based on a very sensitive topic with a mind-blowing execution and for Sang e Mar Mar, I do not have to say anything. Everyone knows how superior it was and yet Baaghi wins the best play. Why? Maybe the number of posts on social media is more important than the actual worthiness.
Yaqeen Ka Safar was a very good drama and the character Dr. Asfandyar played by Ahad Raza Mir won the hearts of millions. But let us be honest. The character was not the main crush till the very last episodes and even it became famous because of the sweet chemistry between the lead pair. The other actors who deserved this win more than him were Mohsin Abbas Haider and Adnan Siddiqui. Mohsin was phenomenal in Muqabil and Adnan too stole the show in Sammi. Moreover, the nominated Noman Ijaz for Pinjari in this category while his character Gulistan Khan was the main character in Sang e Mar Mar and he should have been nominated for that. But yes, Dr. Asfi is more popular on social media and these are Lux Social Media Awards.
Best TV Actress-Saba Qamar for Baaghi:
Saba Qamar is a phenomenal actress. Many times she never gets an award she clearly deserves because the other favourites are also present at the ceremony. Looks like Saba’s India ka chakar lagane se value barhne wali theory is correct. As she got the best actress award for a role where she was just mimicking Qandeel Baloch and that’s all that she did. The nominations of the category were also strange. They nominated Bushra Ansari for Seeta Bagri. Like why? Sajal was nominated for both Yaqeen Ka Safar and O Rangreza. O Rangreza has turned into a disaster but Sajal was still worthy of the award for her portrayal of Sassi. Her performance is thousand times better than Saba.
Yes, I know there is a voting system involved too but honestly everyone knows how voting on anything works in Pakistan. So, that was not even something to consider. LSAs should try to up their game or better tell the world openly that “S” in their name does stand for sasta!
Asghar Nadeem Syed is a famous literary figure of Urdu literature. He is mostly famous for his drama writing, Chaand Girahan, Pyaas, Khawahish, Bol Meri Machhli, Nijaat are some of his famous dramas.

Here we are with our comedy plays suggestions to brighten up an otherwise gloomy day. Grab up a steaming hot mug of tea/coffee or a giant size bowl of popcorn, turn your laptop on, take a pick from one of the below mentioned plays and there you go, laughing and smiling, almost forgetting your earlier bad mood!
Whenever I am down, a light comedy always helps. With the same thought in mind, I tried compiling a list of light comedy plays for you guys to watch when you are not feeling better. As always, don’t forget to expand this list by adding your favourites, let’s make it a fun discussion. Let’s proceed!
Family Front
An ultimate favourite of us, 90’s kids, Family Front is the story of a house hold where nothing goes right. Written by our own king of humor Dr. Younis Butt and directed by Waseem Abbas, Family Front was a huge hit of its time. The team of Sumbul (Saba Hameed), Nusrat (Samina Ahmad), Bobi (Anjum Shehzad), Huma (Arooj Nasir) and Khushiya (Naseem Vicky) is always up for something exciting and adventurous; sometimes participating in a cooking contest, sometimes making and selling washing powders. The crisp witty lines and hilarious situations make this play worth watching time and again. Aazam (Waseem Abbas) is the only sensible person in the family, hence whenever he enters home, everyone gets alert. Remember “Aazam aap aa gaye?” , “Nahi abhi aa raha hun”.
Dolly Ki Aye Gi Barat
Dolly Ki Aye Gi Barat is the part of Kis Ki Aye Gi Barat series, directed by Marina Khan, starring Saba Hameed, Javed Sheikh, Natasha, Bushra Ansari and others. The play revolves around two families; one hailing from Karachi and the other belongs to Faisalabad. The play highlights the differences in their lifestyles and thoughts in a witty and comic manner with a strong dose of desi wedding blitz. The highlight of the play is Saima Chahudry (Bushra Ansari) – a quirky, loud fashion designer and bride’s mother. A character that you will remember for ages, no one could perform it better than Bushra did.
Shashlik
Starring Sarmad Khoosat, Nadia Afgan and Fatima, Shashlik was one of its kind play. Cheeko, Mishi, Munni and Kammo were some of the famous characters of the time. Sometime back, its sequel, Shashlik Xtra Hot was launched on Geo TV as well, the new story featured the life of Cheeko and Mishi as a married couple. But I’d personally recommend you to watch the original Shashlik first if you haven’t already. For me, it was the best.
Nadaniyan
Nadaniyan went on air from Geo TV and was quite popular among masses. Starring Yasir Nawaz, Nida Yasir and Danish Nawaz, Nadaniyan was their home production and shot nowhere else but their own house. Nadaniyan was the story of a small family living in a big metropolitan city. Nida is a working wife and Yasir a househusband, their mutual quarrels and arguments are definitely fun to watch.
Bulbulay
Probably Bulbulay is the only play of the list that is on air these days on ARY Digital. A home production of Nabeel, Bulbulay features four main characters; Nabeel, Khubsurat, Mehmood Sahab and Maa Ji. You actually develop an attachment with these characters when you start following the play regularly. Out of all four, Maa Ji (Hina Dilpazeer) is my favourite.
How many of these plays have you watched already? What is the one thing YOU do when feeling down?
Play Max is a new entertainment channel due to launch on Eid which is just few days away. It is not a new channel instead Play TV a mainly music channel is revamped to Play Max. Play TV, is a sister channel of famous news channel AAJ Tv, which is run by famous newspaper Business Recorder. Play Max has a tag line Jee Bhar Ke Dekho.
Play TV was mainly dedicated to music, while Pakistani music scene is nearly dried out apart from OST of dramas, so Play TV’s whole focus was on Indian Bollywood songs. AAJ TV already has an exclusive license for an entertainment channel named Aaj Entertainment which also started Test Transmission last year, but somehow disappeared without further any further notice. On the other hand, the Pakistani music channels also went off air gradually. Indus Music, Aag TV and now Play Tv are part of history.
The programming content of Play Max consists of local and foreign content consisting of Pakistani, Indian and Turkish productions. A glance at their programs suggests the channel’s programming pattern is inspired from Geo Kahani, Hum Sitaray, Express Entertainment and ARY Zindagi.

While there is no dearth of picnic spots and places to explore in Lahore, one can always undertake a day trip to a never seen before place. Here’s a list of popular places to go for on a one day trip from Lahore:
Hiran Minar(Sheikhupura)
Hiran Minar is located in Sheikhupura and was built by Mughal Emperor Jehangir in 1606. While Hiran Minar literally translates to Deer Tower in English, it is believed that the 30 meter high tower was built in loving memory of Jehangir’s pet antelope whose name was Mansraj. There is a hunting pavilion called baradari which is built in the centre and accessible through a bridge which is a popular spot for photo shoots, whether it is fashion shoots or just family fun shoots. Many brands have shot their ad campaigns at Hiran Minar while many people come to the place for picnics and spending time with their families for a one day trip.
Hiran Minar is at a 40 to 50 KM distance and can be reached in one hour.
Changa Manga (Kasur)
Changa Manga is actually the world’s oldest and largest hand planted forests located in Kasur. This forest was planted during the British rule in 1886 and remains one of the most popular picnic spots for families and tourists to visit.
Changa Manga also has a beautiful lake with boating facilities. Moreover, the tourist attraction near Lahore also houses swimming pools, a waterfall, a water turbine, suspension bridges, a children’s play area, mini zoo and spectacular wildlife park covering about 40 acres of land. To make things easier for the visitors, a tram also runs through all major spots inside the park.
If you plan on spending more than one day exploring the forest, you can even book accommodation at Changa Manga Tourist Resort and explore nature at its very best. The forest is about 80 KM from Lahore and takes 1 and a half hour to reach.
Oasis Golf and Aqua Resort (Multan Road,Lahore)
Located on the outskirts of Lahore after just an hours drive, Oasis Golf and Aqua Resort is a members only amusement park. The luxury resort which is seemingly popular for it’s water slides and top notch swimming services also offers horse riding, archery, snooker, golf and other leisure facilities.
If one doesn’t have a membership, than they can go with someone who is a member.
Rana Resort (Head Baloki)
Rana Resort was established in 2007 and is situated in Head Baloki about 66 KM and 1 and half hours drive from Lahore. The resort has a wildlife sanctuary that allows visitors to see many animals in all their glory.
Rana Resort and Safari Park also offers different sorts of recreational facilities to its visitors, including boat rides, swimming pools, bonfire and a designated BBQ area and the likes. One can also enjoy camel and horse riding in the park.

One can also spend a night at the resort for which certain rates apply. The resort also allows people to hold birthday parties and other private events on their premises.
PK has become the highest worldwide Bollywood grosser raking in over INR600 crore. It’s a win-win for Aamir Khan as he beats the record for his other film Dhoom 3 which had earned slightly over INR540 crore.
Talking to Dawn, Marketing Manager from Distributor Club (PVT) Ltd Hassaan Rizvi says: “PK has made over Rs18 crore in Pakistan and continues to attract movie-goers. It will be in cinemas until the end of January so I’m sure it will make a lot more. (Alprazolam) ”
He adds: “The movie thrives because it entails a strong message, and of course because of Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani.”
PK‘s box office revenue in Pakistan is inching close to beating Waar’s record of Rs22 crore (statistics provided by Saad Baig of Footprint (Pvt) Ltd). By Jan 6, PK had made almost Rs15 crore and has managed to cross Rs18 crore in a matter of four days. It is likely that the movie will keep the momentum going and Aamir Khan’s depiction of a quirky alien addressing deep rooted social issues will keep the house full.
Whether PK will break the record for Dhoom 3, which did colossal business in Pakistan making over Rs24.5 crore, is still up in the air. PK has three weeks left in cinemas to do so.

Pinjra is an ARY Digital drama serial, the drama has been produced and directed by Wajahat Rauf. It has been written by Late Asma Nabeel. Well, Pinjra became the talk of the town because of its different storyline. The drama featured the issues between parents and children regarding parenting and it also focused on how strict patenting shapes a child’s behavior. The cast of the drama includes Furqan Qureshi, Sunita Marshall, Hadiqa Kiani, Aashir Wajahat, Jinnan Hussain, Omair Rana and others.
Today, the last episode of the drama aired which was loved by the fans. Fans were surprised and happy to see the beautiful ending where the family did an extra effort to do the patch up. Well, fans loved the scene of Abban with his father. They said that the writer and team definitely deserves praise for producing such a thoughtful show. Fans appreciated the content and said that Pinjra is surely a masterpiece to remember. One YouTube user wrote, “THIS is what I call QUALITY content Great drama with many lessons. No hate but this drama should have been trending instead of Tere bin & others with practically superficial storylines. P.S. This episode was so emotional and well executed. Hats off to the entire team and cast. Would love to see more like these. Highly recommended drama”. Almost everyone loved the satisfying ending and said that the conclusion of the drama was very refreshing after seeing characters facing a lot of problems. Fans showered their love for the writer and team for making an effort into producing out of the box content. Drama viewers loved the acting of each and every actor. Here are the comments on the last episode of Pinjra:
Pinjra is turning out to be one of those rare, powerful dramas which deliver in so many ways. Every episode has so many meaningful scenes which are definitely insightful for every single parent out there who acknowledges the fact that there is always room for improvement. The writer has not hesitated while showing different sides of parenting going wrong. Also, she has successfully managed to show things from children’s perspective, which indeed is not something we get to see in our dramas often. Watching Abaan resort to drugs as an escape in these recent episodes had to be the most disturbing element of the drama so far.
Well Written and Executed
The latest episodes yet again focused in an impressive manner on the parenting styles and how these impacted children especially in Javed’s household. On the other hand, Wajiha was shown struggling to completely break free from a relationship that is legally over. I found this particular aspect of Wajiha’s track realistic. This is a reality for many divorced women who are married to men with no dignity. Abaan and Azaan continue to stand out so far, more than all the other characters in the drama. Both of them are victims in their own way. Even though Azaan is the “perfect” child but his sensitivity and sense of responsibility are turning out to be the reasons why he worries, more than a child his age should, about his siblings. He has to often play the role of the parent since the parents are too lost to play that role.
In the recent episode when Azaan comes home after a big win, his day was ruined because his dad lashed out at Abaan, yet again. This was such a brilliantly put-together scene that showed all the reactions with the utmost clarity. Javed was in control like always, dictating how things should be, Khadija yet again was too scared to take a stand for her son, Abaan’s anger was more apparent than ever in this particular scene and Azaan helplessness was equally obvious. This scene also went to show that when you put unnecessary restrictions on your children, they end up resenting you. A father who works hard to ensure that his kids get all the material things falls short completely when it comes to providing more important things such as support and love which nurture the soul.
The morning scene in this episode as well as the night one in which Abaan covered up when he was about to be caught were the most outstanding scenes. After watching all these scenes, as a parent, you come to the conclusion that your children getting bad grades is not the worst thing that can happen! It is definitely the worst when a child has to resort to such means because the environment they live in is so toxic that they feel the need to find an unhealthy outlet. Javed’s change of attitude in the breakfast scene showed a side of him that we have not seen so far. He is willing to be light-hearted, fun, and caring but only when his children ‘earn it’. He does not believe in showing affection towards his own family unless they earn it. He expects everyone to abide by the rules set by him and anyone including his wife who does not do so should expect the worst. There is no concept of unconditional love.
Khadija and Wajiha’s friendship is also one of my favorite tracks from this drama. Khadija has been shown as a docile wife and a clueless mother but she does have a life of her own. Her regular meetings with Wajiha give a realistic touch to this track, unlike many other such scenarios in which women do not have a social life at all. These meetings also give an insight into Khadija’s mindset as a mother and a wife. They also show her naivety in certain situations and the different ways in which these women perceive parenting and relationships in general.
Azaan and Khadija’s scenes in both these episodes were well written and acted out so well. Aashir Wajahat acted brilliantly throughout and Hadiqa Kiyani is as impressive as she always has been in every single acting project. These scenes also reflected Azaan’s maturity and an attempt on his part to “educate” his mother who has been ‘brainwashed’ over the years. Khadija is the perfect representation of one of those mothers who willingly take up a secondary role in the household even though they are well-educated and completely capable of making informed decisions. This usually happens when the partner has a dominating and at times intimidating personality. Khadija’s dialogue about mothers not deserving a break was another reflection of the mindset which I am certain many women out there could relate to because that is generally the ‘idea’ that is put into women’s heads. It makes it easier for the men to take breaks because the women are available all the time. In this episode, Azaan reminded his mother that she shouldn’t have to be scared of her spouse. Ironically, at the beginning of this episode, Javed said that they were a team but clearly that is not the case and even their kids sense that.
Khadija decided to hide Abeer’s secret both from her husband and even her friend. She decided to sweep this matter under the carpet because she had no idea how to deal with the situation. In the next episode, however, Javed will probably find out what Abeer has been up to. I am certain he will blame Khadija once again which is perhaps the reason why Khadija has started hiding things from him. It was good to see that Abaan did not push that boy; definitely a relief because his track is upsetting enough as it is.
Final Remarks
Pinjra is the only drama right now that is meaningful and penned down brilliantly. The performances have been on point throughout and each character has a significance of its own. It is definitely a must-watch; the only drama right now that I truly look forward to watching and one that actually gives you something to discuss.
Unfortunately, this season there isn’t a single drama that matches the uniqueness of dramas such as Parizaad and Jo Bichar Gaye. Most of the dramas nowadays either revolve around the same ghissi pitte tracks or go downhill after a few episodes. Personally, I am sick and tired of every story turning into either a love story or misunderstandings ruining relationships as is the case with Habs. I have been waiting for Pinjra to air ever since I saw the posters and found out about the cast. As the posters and the cast suggested, Pinjra is not the story of a single individual. Although we do have a main protagonist whose story is definitely the focus of attention, Pinjra covers so much more than the agony and loneliness of a child who is not given the love and acceptance every child deserves. Asma Nabeel was an exceptional writer who gave us many meaningful scripts therefore the fact that this drama had been written by her was reason enough to tune into it. The execution of the drama is not perfect, there are times when you wish a certain scene would have been covered differently but overall, Pinjra does stand out right now because of its content. Whether it will continue to be engaging enough or not is another story! Since the producers are bent on stretching stories nowadays.
Javed and Khadija’s Household
Pinjra’s main story revolves around two completely different families. One is headed mainly by Javed (Omair Rana), who is the father of 3 children. His wife Khadija (Hadiqa Kiyani) is the docile partner who most often fails to act upon her instincts even though there were times in these few episodes when she believed that things should be tackled differently. Their 3 children Azaan (Aashir Wajahat), Abeer (Aina Asif), and Abaan (Ahmed Usman) are just as clueless as their mother. Azaan is the eldest child who is an ace student, excels in extracurriculars, and is a sensitive and sensible boy. Through this character, the writer has shown how the eldest child has to sometimes unfairly take up the role of a parent when the parents fail to look out for their children, the way they should be. Aina is the middle child who is rebellious and seeks attention from the outside world because she is not seen or heard in her own house. Abaan is the youngest child who I believe has been shown as a child with borderline learning difficulties. He is misunderstood by his father in particular as lazy and stubborn. He resorts to painting and art as an escape but that talent is not recognized by his parents because the only criteria for being accepted and loved in this particular household are good grades and exceptional behavior.
All the characters in this household have been etched out perfectly. I am certain most viewers out there can see a reflection of themselves in one of these characters. Each one of these characters represents a certain person in such households. The older brother is given more responsibility than he can shoulder, a middle child who craves love and attention, and a younger child fighting his own demons and his parents’ unfair attitude at the same time. The real issue in this particular household is the lack of communication between the parents and the children. The parents believe in dictating things to their children and they feel that they “own” their children because they take care of their needs. Children, even the mother, is too scared of the male head of the family to speak their mind. The suffocating atmosphere has been presented in such a way that you actually feel as if these children are caged.
Wajiha’s Household
The other track of the story is completely different from that of Khadija and Javed’s household. Wajiha (Sunita Marshall) is a single mother who recently broke free from an abusive relationship. Her parenting style is completely different from that of the other set of parents. She is on friendly terms with her children, they communicate openly and most importantly her children know that their mother has faith in them. This is one of the most progressive tracks we have seen in dramas this season. We barely get to see working women who are good mothers in Pakistani dramas. Through this track, the writer has also shown how important it is for women to break free from abusive relationships. In a society where women are consistently being told to stay in abusive marriages for the sake of children, such stories are not always welcomed but they are definitely needed. Wajiha has 2 children, Dua (Emaan Khan) and Fardan (Zuhad Khan). Another important character in this track is that of the caretaker of the house Ferias Bi (Fareeha Jabeen).
Wajiha’s household can easily be termed as an example of a ‘perfect household’; at times it is a little too perfect and not too relatable. It would have been nice if some nuances were added to this track as well. The most unrealistic scene for me was the one showing how quickly Wajiha’s children accepted her decision to leave their father. Also, the recent threat her husband gave of abducting Dua if he does not get the money proved that he was a toxic father as well. Therefore, I am surprised that Wajiha gave her children the option of staying with their father at all since apart from being an abuser, he is also an alcoholic who lived off of his wife’s money. If children grow up in such an abusive household, it does have an adverse effect on them even if the mother is loving and caring. These children are wise beyond their years because of their experiences but that’s about it. These characters could have been a little less perfect and more human. Hopefully, as the story progresses, we will get to see that too.
Final Remarks
After this drama went on air, a lot of people commented that the story of this drama has been inspired by Taare Zameen Par. Very often, certain tracks or main ideas for dramas are inspired by Bollywood films, most often they serve no purpose therefore I am actually glad that for a change, a Pakistani writer got inspiration from a meaningful Bollywood film. Neurodiversity is one of the most talked about topics in the developed world right now but developing countries still have a lot to catch up with. Even in this day and age many of parents and even educationists do not understand the challenges of neurodiverse children and as a result of that, they are made to feel inferior, the way Abaan is made to feel in the drama.
Pinjra questions the typical Asian style of parenting which is a norm in most households. It shows children’s perspectives and also breaks stereotypes. It might also serve as a reality check for many Khadijas out there who are always questioning themselves and not questioning their authoritative husbands enough! The performances have been on point throughout. The past and present scenarios, in the beginning, were confusing but other than that the script and the direction have the kind of clarity that such a drama requires in order to be effective. It is truly pleasing and a nice change to watch a drama based on the needs of children and the challenges, and shortcomings of parenthood.

Umrah and Haj are important worship rituals for Muslims, performed in Masjid Al Haram in the holy city of Makkah. Muslims hold deep emotional sentiments regarding their worship practices and sacred places, especially the Kaaba, Masjid E Nabwi, and other mosques. Muslims show great respect for the Kaaba, they engage in maximum Ibadat (worship) during their Hajj and Umrah trips. Unfortunately, there are instances where individuals show disrespect towards these holy places by playing games, taking unnecessary snaps and doing videography.
Recently, a video from Kaaba has circulated on TikTok. In the video, a man can be seen sitting on the floor of Masjid Al Haram, engaged in playing a video game on his mobile. Social media users have criticized this insensitive act of the pilgrim. First, view the video shared by a netizen. Here is the link to the video:
Netizens are angry to see the video but most of them have prayed for the guidance of the man involved in playing the game in Masjid Al Haram. Social media users are of the view that they are waiting to visit this Holy place and those who are visiting it often are taking it for granted. Most of the social media users are feeling sad about the pilgrim’s senseless act. A social media user wrote, “If I were in his place, I would have only performed Sujoods.
