Soulful voices of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in ‘Mere Rashke Qamar’

The first song of India’s film Baadshaho, “Mere Rashke Qamar”, meaning, ‘the moon is also jealous of your beauty’ is all about the budding romance between royalty, Ileana D’Cruz and rugged Ajay Devgn. This sufi romantic song has the most soothing lyrics, the tunes of harmonium and mandolin and the soulful voices of late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

A lot of covers of the famous song have been made in the past but this is the first time Rahat has attempted the song. The remix made by him is obviously not good as the original considering it’s nearly impossible to reach Nusrat Fateh’s level but it is catchy and sounds pretty good too. Can You See The Difference In Imran Abbas ?

Imran Abbas has won many hearts all over the country with his good looks and emotional acting. Recently, however, his looks are not quite the same. His cheeks are much more fuller, even to the extent of looking swollen.

Imran Abbas’s chiselled features looked wonderful on him, but with the recent change in his face, his face seems to have lost its angles and become quite different to how we are used to seeing him. Unfortunately, he seems to have joined the list of celebrities who don’t look quite the same as we had initially seen them and loved them so much for those genuine faces.

Recently Fahad Mustafa gave an interview to Images in which he claimed to be the only Pakistani actor who has won stardom and mass appeal without doing any project in Bollywood. This didn’t go well with many people. Even Shaan responded to this by saying:

“A lot of good actors have never went to India yet they have been quite popular here including Waheed Murad, Shahid, Rahat Kazmi, Usman Peerzada, Umar Shareef, Faisal Rehman, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Bilal Ashraf, Faisal Qureshi, Nouman Ejaz and Danish Taimoor.”

What I want to discuss today is whatever we may say about our artists going to Bollywood, the fact is many of our artists have received more recognition and love from the audience after going to Bollywood. Even the industry acknowledged them more after their successful Bollywood stints as they start getting nominations and increase in paychecks. Here are some examples:

Saba Qamar:

Saba Qamar is a very versatile actress. She has done all kinds of roles and has justified them with her talent, hardwork and zeal. Whether it is a role of a dukhyaari larki in Thakkan or a vamp in Maat, Saba always did justice to her roles. Saba is and was among the top league actors in Pakistan when she opted for Hindi Medium but what happened afterwards is not hidden from anyone’s eyes. She gained 100 times more love from her fans and audience for her work in the film and suddenly she was the hot favourite of the industry with nominations and praises pouring from everywhere. She raised her paycheck too according to the reports. She boycotted the LSAs this year despite having two nominations and acknowledged this change of attitude herself by saying:

“Although I am nominated for three different plays, I will not be attending the LSAs as a protest,They never bothered to honour me during the past 12 years and now that I have the Bollywood stamp, everyone is acknowledging me all of a sudden.”

Sajal Aly:

Sajal Aly is the new addition in Lollywood to Bollywood list and every one has seen how much recognition she has got and was loved to bits for her role in the movie Mom. All of a sudden people who used to bash her for sometimes her looks and sometimes her damsel in distress roles became her ultimate fans and were writing WE LOVE SAJAL on every social media platform. The truth is Sajal has always been a very talented and expressive actress. Be it her role in Nanhi and Behadd or even Gul e Rana Sajal has nailed every character beautifully. Her film Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai despite being a local release was an average success. But people’s love for her has increased four folds after the release of Mom.

Atif Aslam:

Atif’s magical voice had a lot of admirers before too but after his track featured in a Bollywood movie; there was no looking back for the star. He is loved and admired now on both sides of the border and his tracks are no doubt a necessity for many Bollywood films. Though he is immensely talented he may not have made this big without the Bollywood part in his life.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan:

Hailing form the clan of Ustaad Fateh Ali Khan and nephew and successor of Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat is no doubt a legend and maestro for music. But his fame was actually elevated to the status it is on today after he lent his vocals in Bollywood and today he is one of the huge names of the music industry in Pakistan as well as in India.

Veena Malik:

Yes her work definitely is not of the nature of the stars mentioned here but her names demands an inclusion as if not for Bollywood we would not have been even considering her anywhere today. Veena did a hit movie Mohabbatan Sacchiyan and also did some shows. Mostly she used to be in news for her affairs and little controversies but her stint in Big Boss and limited work she did in Bollywood gave her world-wide recognition. If not for Bollywood she would never have got this immense popularity.

Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan:

Well I personally think they were bigger stars even before going to Bollywood but Bollywood did wonders for them. Mahira is seen mostly talking about Raees in all shows in place of her work in Pakistan and she would as debut opposite SRK is not a small thing. This provided her international exposure. Same is the case for Fawad, even Indians started counting him as the fourth Khan of Bollywood. Not to forget an increase in demanded fee come with success in Bollywood.

Yes there are many stars who have achieved a lot of success without going to Bollywood like Shaan Shahid, Reema, Mehwish Hayat, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Shehryar Munawar and many more but there is no denying to the fact that going to Bollywood is like having a success stamp on your CV. Whenever anything bad happens in India, Indian stars and awaam start bashing and accusing Pakistan mercilessly without any proof and there is never any answer from our stars. The way Fawad and Mahira were stopped to work in Bollywood and none of the the Pakistanis were allowed to do promotions in India recently shows how much love they hold for us. The way Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was treated on the tax thing on airport and Atif had to cancel his concert once are not hidden from the audience either. But our stars are always seen speaking about the love and support they get in India despite how much humiliation they themselves or their country is facing. They will never utter a word against them even if it is a fact. This is all because its bread v/s dignity and bread is always the winning contender. Whatever anyone may say it remains a fact that going Bollywood can place a lot of jam and nutella on one’s bread. ‘Battle Of The Bands’ Is Coming Back Soon

The popular TV show, ‘Battle Of The Bands’ is returning soon after fifteen years. The show that has produced two famous bands of the country that are ‘EP’ and ‘Aaroh’.

The official social media page welcomed registrations for new bands 2 months ago and there is no official news from them since then. However, lately Mahira Khan and Meesha Shafi have tweeted about the show as follows:

There is also a speculation that Meesha Shafi, Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam would be collaborating on the show and Meesha’s several retweets also confirm it. There is also a news that Shahzad Hasan will be in the judges panel again. However, there is no official news available about the event yet.

Over the years, our drama industry has given us many beautiful names. To count them would not be an easy task but few of them will always resonate in the history of television. However, there are some who appeared on television during PTV era but unfortunately vanished from the screen too soon. These talented artists quietly slipped in to the shadows but their remarkable performances have immortalized them.

I would try to recall and talk about such beautiful faces of Pakistani dramas, who were once the luminosity of screen but have obscured somewhere today. They were volcanoes of talent, born with a lucky charm of ruling the hearts.

Shehnaz Sheikh

A versatile drama veteran and theatre director Shehnaz Sheikh who has been seen in some outstanding PTV dramas such as ‘Tanhaiyan’ and ‘Ankahi’ from where she got immense popularity. She has also appeared in some famous TV shows, ‘Uncle Sargam’ and ‘Yes Sir No Sir’ in which she captured the hearts of audience but soon after she disappeared from the screen. People always wanted to see her more but she restricted herself from acting. She had a reason for staying away from dramas. She once said that she didn’t see any diversity in characters she was offered at that time and therefore parted ways from acting.

In 2010, she came into limelight again by directing a theater play ‘The Mousetrap’ which was greatly acknowledged by the audience.

However, the acting career of Shehnaz Sheikh was short-lived yet highly remembered. People expected to see her in ‘Tanhaiyan Naye Silsiley’ which was the sequel of her famous play ‘Tanhaiyan’. ‘Tanhaiyan Naye Silsiley’ was aired on ARY digital but unfortunately the expectations of watching her perform once again didn’t meet the reality and we didn’t get to see more of her.

Shehnaz Sheikh has backed off from television since a long period but she prevails in most of the hearts even today.

Rahat Kazmi

One of the most learned actors of our drama and film industry, Rahat Kazmi is not only a wonderful actor but has been a brilliant anchor person of his times. He saw success on both small and big screens during 1970’s and 1980’s. ‘Dhoop Kinarey’, ‘Nangay Paon’, ‘Parchaiyan’, ‘Saraab’ are some plays in which he has showed his extraordinary acting skills. He was also seen in movies like ‘Insaniyat’, ‘Khandaan’, ‘Saima’, ‘Jann-e-Mann’ and many more to count.

I think the serenity of his personality reflects in his performance that has enchanted the audience over years. Unfortunately, he is also among those actors who left television too early and made our drama industry deprived of a precious gem.

In 2006, after a prolonged break he was seen again in in a drama serial named ‘Kaisey Kahon’. Watching Rahat Kazmi once again on television was a treat to one’s eye but he was not seen again in any dramas since then.

Sahira Kazmi

Sahira Kazmi, one of the most talented names of our drama industry has also been very popular on television over the years. ‘Parchaiyan’, ‘Teesra Kinara’, ‘Qurbatein aur Faslay’ are the most remembered drama serials in which she acted alongside her spouse Rahat Kazmi. The couple appeared in the lead roles and were highly acclaimed.

She disappeared from the screen in 1980’s and thus one more beautiful face of our television was lost. She was not only a gorgeous actress but was also a striking director. She has directed some renowned dramas like ‘Dhoop Kinarey’, ‘Zaib-un-Nisa’, ‘Aahat, Hawa ki Beti’ and many more. Although she has greatly contributed as an actor and director during the golden era of PTV but soon distanced herself from acting that has made her admirers melancholy.

Marina Khan

A beautiful actress and a lovely television director Marina Khan is also among less seen personalities of television today. ‘Tanhaiyan’, ‘Dhoop Kinarey’, ‘Nijaat’, ‘Padosi’, ‘Khaali Hath’ are some of her memorable plays. She enjoyed popularity on television during 1980’s and 1990’s but then she vanished from screen for many years. Marina then opted to stay behind the cameras and started working more as a director.

In, 2005 she appeared in a drama serial ‘Kaisey kahon’. She was again seen in 2013 in ‘Tanhaiyan Naye Silsiley’ which was also directed by her. In the following year, she appeared in a light comedy drama serial ‘Jackson Heights’. The return of Marina Khan to television delighted her fans again and they were overwhelmed by her screen presence.

The contribution of Marina Khan as a comedy play director is enormous. She has directed the plays ‘Azar Ki Ayegi Baraat’, ‘Dolly Ki Ayegi Baraat’, ‘Takkay Ki Ayegi Baraat’ and ‘Annie ki Ayegi Baraat’ that has been greatly enjoyed and appreciated by the viewers. In these plays she has taken the situational comedy to a level which is unparalleled.

Recently there is a good news for all the Marina Khan lovers that she will be doing her film debut in upcoming movie ‘Na Maloom Afraad 2’ and will also soon appear in another Pakistani movie ‘Parwaz Hai Junoon’. Hence there would be a chance to get a glimpse of her again. She would also be coming in a mystery serial ‘Dhund’ on TV One, as announced by a social media page of the channel itself.

The aforementioned personalities are few of my personal favorites whose non-availability from screen has always been deeply felt by me. Their absence has created a void that can never be filled. It is heartening to see Marina’s comeback a few times on television, but her prolonged absence from the drama industry would be hard to compensate.

TV One is now bringing a mystery series, ‘Dhund’ to the television. It has been written by Syed Mohammad Ahmad and directed by Farrukh Faiz. The cast of the series looks promising since some big names from the drama industry are there including Sania Saeed, Maria Wasti, Sawera Nadeem, Marina Khan, Asif Raza Mir and Mohammad Ahmad himself.

Fan girl comes up on stage and refuses to let go during Atif Aslam’s concert

Atif Aslam is the heartthrob, not only of Pakistan, but of girls from around the world. Whenever the singer hits the stage of any country, girls go gaga over his hunky looks and melodious voice. Just recently, during his concert in Dubai, a fan couldn’t control her excitement when she got to meet Atif Aslam.

The girl had come along with a postcard of “Atif – I love You,” this is why the singer invited her to share the stage with him for a while. She graced the stage and took Aslam’s autograph on the same postcard, which he also showed to the audience attending the show.

The girl, unable to believe her fate, continued posing for pictures even removing a mic stand to take the pouted pics clearly. Though the fan kept chattering for long, Atif had to ask her to leave the stage so that he may continue the concert.

We all can understand the jitters of excitement the girl would have been getting at that moment. Who can believe that they are standing at stage with Atif Aslam and that too on his personal invitation. She in one lucky girl, and we think that she got her Facebook DP to brag about too!

Remember the 4-minute trailer of Shehroz Sabzwari’s film ‘Chain Ay Na’ that broke the internet for all the wrong reasons? It made into the headlines which read something along the lines “A film you should not waste your money on”, “What were they (persons involved in the film) thinking?”, “CNA will be the death of the cinema”. Shehroz is taking none of that and is totally standing behind Syed Noor, defending the film to what seems like his last breath. He has endlessly promoted his film on social media but now he is even on local TV channels defending the film and claiming that all the criticism is base-less. Project Ghazi’s premiere disappoints all, film’s release postponed

Syed Muhammad Ali Raza’s Project Ghazi premiered today and it seems that we have another setback for the entertainment industry. While being dubbed as the first Superhero film of the country, expectations were high among the cinema goers. But, it seems that the film fraternity that went to attend the premier today in Nueplex cinema ran even before the intermission.

It is just one review, but many more reviews started to flood in soon after. Seems that the directors and producers of the movie can’t tolerate their efforts turning into a upheaval, this is why they announced that the release has been postponed.

Well, we all know what’s the reason behind this sudden technical work. People were expecting a lot better from the movie, which claims that it is bringing about one in a million sort of story paired with exciting stuns. The makers, right on time, decided that it would be better to postpone the movie rather than making it another big flop of the year.

We all were impatiently waiting for the movie to release, and some of us had already pre-booked the tickets. When will the movie be released, what happened to our tickets is still to be seen!

Zakham Episode 12 Review – A Confusing Tale

Zakham has started coming on two back to back days from last week. So, here we are with its twelfth episode, which was quite a mixture of controversies and contradictions, with no solution in sight. The friction between Khawar and Takbeer got entangled with Ahmed’s disease yesterday and this episode continued on the same pattern.

The most unlikeable character in the whole play is Khawar’s sister Khalida. First, when she got to know about Ahmed’s heart condition, she was extremely nonchalant about it, repeating that it’s the norm for doctors to create diseases and associate them with kids. In her next scene, she was all weepy and super concerned about Ahmed, to the extent that her husband had to console her to stop crying, and the way she keeps reminding her brother that he is not Takbeer’s son, conveniently ignoring the fact that she sacrificed the love of her life for this baby, is just so mean of her. This woman is certainly up to no good.

The episode showed Khawar extremely concerned about Ahmed and while his worries seem legitimate, it is hard to sympathise with a man who is crying for his ailing infant in one scene, and cribbing nonsense about his wife to his sister in the next. The way Khawar physically manhandles Takbeer is simply abhorrent and absolutely intolerable, even to watch. (kennedyandperkins) He wanted to sleep with Ahmed, so he physically pushed his wife out of the room and when he came home later and found Ahmed alone and crying and Takbeer absent, his behaviour was certainly not normal. Any concerned father would atleast carry the child with him, rather than leave him crying and act like Sherlock Holmes for his missing wife. I also dislike the way him and his sister think it is perfectly fine to put all responsibility of raising Ahmed on Takbeer, but keep all rights about him to themselves. She is being a mother to Ahmed, while being treated like a babysitter by Khawar.

Finally Takbeer’s brother noted the bruises on her hands from Khawar’s roughness and thankfully, got angry on it. When their father saw her arm, even he was shocked enough to ask Takbeer to pack up all her and Ahmed’s stuff to come with them. Shabbir Jan was phenomenal in today’s episode. Maybe he is a father himself, so that is why he was so natural in feeling desolate and hurt on seeing her daughter abused at her husband’s hands, because he performed that scene straight from the heart. He was superb as a macho orthodox father who is very strict apparently, but in his heart, he still holds his little girl very close. Madiha Imam was her usual fabulous self, acting so naturally and flawlessly that you cannot help but follow the story through Takbeer’s eyes. Whoever casted her and whoever is styling her is also doing an amazing job. Her indifference with her looks and hair and makeup is perfectly in sync with her character. She is abused, misunderstood and uncertain of her future, so thankfully they have not shown all that in perfectly applied nail polish and false eyelashes. That looks very unnatural. Also, when she comes back to her parents’ home, her lean frame, porcelain skin and fragile outlook really justified her parents’ outrage and grief that their delicate daughter is being treated so harshly.

Ahmed’s story line is quite confusing because they showed us the opinion of doctor who gave them all sorts of hope for his prognosis but that did not do much to relieve their anxiety about him. Why show a doctor say everything will be fine without medicine and surgery, when the family is going to keep on treating it like a fatal disease in the later scenes.

Yaar e Bewafa Episode 02 Review – Another Interesting Episode!

Ohkay so, it was quite an interesting episode of Yaar e Bewafa. I must say what I am loving about this drama at the moment is how realistically & effortlessly everything has been portrayed. What I also enjoyed the most in this episode was the how there was this unpredictability in almost every other situation because I found myself thinking one thing & the very next moment, something exactly opposite happened, which actually kept things quite engaging. I must say the foundation of the story has been laid in such a convincing manner, that I am actually looking forward to the rest of the drama.

So, Fizza pushed Zaid to the limit & it showed how desperate times call for desperate measures. Zaid ended up mortgaging his house in order to please Fizza & fulfill her dream of a better & secure future. It is admirable how they have shown Zaid & Fizza as a couple that stands by each other & believes in transparency, like I don’t think we usually get to see such a marital relationship in our dramas where they show how a husband & a wife think on the same lines & their mental wavelength is in sync with one another. Yes, Fizza does seem a little, I repeat a little unreasonable to put pressures on her husband like that but then again, it is also a fact that due to her motivation, Zaid finds himself obliged to do everything for his family’s betterment. Also, it is worth noticing that Zaid hasn’t forgotten what Fizza left behind in order to get married to him, may be that’s why he feels a little more burdened to do better because he wants to give her everything that she had to sacrifice to be with him. The note at which their marriage started was very interesting, like right from the beginning, they showed that Zaid had nothing but love to offer to Fizza & he didn’t mind going to any extreme to please her, even if it meant taking someone else’s ring to gift it to his wife. I must say the way the writer has shown Zaid & Fizza’s relationship is quite amazing, like they both are unapologetically themselves in front of each other, which makes their relationship quite strong. At one point I thought that Zaid would keep house mortgage a secret from Fizza because he wouldn’t want her to feel concerned but he ended up telling her everything because he believes in transparency. Also, to my surprise I thought Fizza would feel a little guilty but she showed no such signs because right now, Zaid’s immigration is her main priority.

Also, even though there are a very few moments that Fizza & her mother in law share but it shows that Fizza has not only accepted Zaid but she has also accepted her mother wholeheartedly too. I enjoyed seeing their interactions & how Fizza kept on reminding Zaid that he should tell his mother everything because it was the right time. I don’t know why but I must say Fizza’s character is quite interesting, like you can not form a definite opinion about her because you understand her struggles but can also find her a little selfish. There has been an amazing balance that the writer has drawn in her character & I am definitely looking forward to see more of her.

I must say, even though I had a good laugh at the scene where Zaid felt he was being chased, I loved the quotient of reality that the entire scenario had. It showed how desperate Zaid was & how having so much of money on him was making him conscious. Zaid was so eager to get things done that he was unnecessarily adding a bit more pressure on himself. I must say, just when I thought things would go wrong now, everything turned out to be great, starting from Zaid getting his visa to getting his medical reports cleared. It does look like good times are rolling in for Zaid & Fizza at the moment but we’ll have to see how far things will remain the same. Also, I liked how they showed that after getting his visa, Zaid attained this confidence because it showed in his body language as if a huge burden was taken off his shoulders & he was more than ready to embrace the change that his life was going to offer.

Fortunately, where one family was rejoicing at the opportunity that life presented them, on the other side one family was falling in a deep pit continuously. Saleem lost his job & he had his justifications for it but he didn’t feel the need to answer his wife Amna as to why things went wrong. Also, Saleem was diagnosed with lung cancer which means even more trials and tribulations for Amna because things are only going to get worse for her henceforth.

Overall, this episode was quite interesting & engaging. I loved seeing Fizza & Zaid’s relationship, like for a change it feels nice to see a realistic portrayal of what marriage is all about, where a husband & wife struggle with each other, stand by each other’s side & then share some light-hearted moments too which turn into beautiful memories. Zaid surprising Fizza was another good aspect that was covered. Also, the way Zaid took such a huge risk & literally gambled everything to make Fizza’s dream come true went to show how much he loves her. I am actually interested to see who will turn out to be ‘yaar e bewafa’, like at this point I do have a feeling it will be Fizza may be when things will go wrong in their life, but the way everything has turned out to be quite unpredictable, I most certainly can’t be sure of anything & for that I am eager to see how the story is going to unravel. I must say everyone’s acting was effortless & spot on, I liked Imran Abbas & Arij Fatima’s chemistry as husband & wife, like they have made Zaid & Fizza’s relationship a treat to watch. I however do want to see more of Sara Khan because I am sure she is going to impress us all as well. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yaar e Bewafa.

Shadi Mubarak Ho Episode 3 Review – Slow-Paced

Tonight’s episode of Shadi Mubarak Ho was a lot like the previous episode; slow-paced and light but not exactly funny! If this drama was more fast-paced and some of the scenes in particular were shorter, it could have been far more entertaining, even though the storyline is a little too simple. Unfortunately, this drama also doesn’t have enough characters or tracks to keep the viewers interested. Even the few characters which get plenty of screen time in every episode aren’t exactly the sort of characters you warm up to and look forward to watching every week. Ikhtiyar gets more screen time in every episode than Ahsan. Ikhtiyar’s relationship with the people in the house is somewhat interesting but he gets way more screen time than he should. Ahsan and Nyle also do not have the kind of bromance which could have made this relationship come alive on screen. Nyle and Zoya’s relationship is plain and realistic but not exactly appealing. The most off-putting aspect of this drama so far has to be the repeated references to certain diseases which do not even pass as a joke!

Many of the conversations in this episode revolved around Rimsha and it seems like the writer is trying extra hard to build up the curiosity of the viewers therefore I hope that Rimsha’s character will live up to the “hype”. It would have been so much better if her character was introduced in this episode. Nyle has fallen for Zoya and even though Zoya likes him as well but she has been shown as a practical girl who does not want to admit to herself or others that she is falling in love with Nyle. Right now I find Nyle’s father’s character the most likeable one in the play. Yasir Hussain did really well in the first episode because he is definitely good at mimicking and can make you laugh but too bad he decided to play the “hero” instead of a more comic character.

The preview of the next episode suggested that there will be some kind of a misunderstanding between the “love birds”! I am wondering if Rimsha will make her entry in the next episode or not and whether the story will pick up pace in the upcoming episodes. The first episode of the drama was interesting because it was longer than usual therefore it covered more too. Every episode so far has a specific pattern and there is nothing unpredictable or interesting about the plot. This drama could have been far better if the script was written in such a way that the viewers could have easily connected to the characters. If this was not meant to be an all out comedy then the writer should have added more emotions in the drama to make it relatively more attractive for the viewers. I would love to see Kubra Khan in particular doing some serious comedy for a change. Also, it is sad that even someone like Bushra Ansari does not make you laugh when you are watching this play because the character she is playing does not have a lot to offer.

The OST of Shadi Mubarak Ho is the best thing about it so far. I expected a lot from this drama but it has turned out to be a huge disappointment so far. I will give it two more weeks, if it doesn’t take off then I am not tuning into it again.

Salman Ahmed Pays A Fanboy Tribute To Imran Khan

Salman Ahmed has been an avid fan of PTI and Imran Khan since long. He is almost always among the promoinent faces in all of PTI’s protests and marches.

The love and admiration Salman Ahmed has for Imran Khan has always been very evident but in the wake of the JIT and its current decision, Salman has released a very warm tribute for Imran Khan.

The video has been sung and produced by Salman Ahmed himself and uploaded on his YouTube channel that he has named under the banner of Junoon. Wajid Khan Reaches NY To Work As A Stylist In Upcoming IIFA Awards

Wajid Khan, the prominent makeup artist and stylist of our country spotted at the JFK International airport, New York. Wajid has been travelling to NY to participate as a stylist in 18th IIFA awards to be held on 14th and 15th July 2017.

Wajid runs his own beauty salon in Karachi. He is an official Chi Representative in Pakistan and also works as stylist at Miss Universe. This time he will be working as a stylist for upcoming IIFA awards in New York, USA.

Zakham Episode 11 Review – Male Dominance At It’s Worst

The eleventh episode of Zakham has taken the story a little bit forward on one end and a lot backward at the other. All of our hopes from Takbeer’s father and brother were dashed badly. They were only considerate and thoughtful for a brief moment and now they are back to their lame, unreasonable chauvinist selves.

The episode started well with Takbeer breathing a little free in anticipation of getting rid of Khawar. She even consoled her mother about not worrying that the stigma of divorce will be attached to her. Only an abused wife like her can understand that living daily life with such a husband is much worse than the stigma of divorce. It did not however went as anticipated. Khawar put up a brilliant performance of remorse, regret and tears and convinced Ikram and Sultan that he is utterly sorry for his words. Then his cunning sister gave hints that it was still Takbeer’s fault after all. She gave clues like comparing other men to your husband and a man’s possessiveness to eventually prove that Takbeer is equally if not more at fault than Khawar. It had quite the desired effect, since the two men of Takbeer’s family looked very subdued and embarrassed at that mention. Even after everything, they are so egoistic that they could not snub Khawar’s sister that Takbeer had no fault in any of it and that she had never even mentioned Musa by herself. It was Khawar who is so obsessed with Musa and his whereabouts.

Madiha Imam was again brilliant in all her expressions and dailogues. Her anguish was so genuine when she saw Khawar with her father and brother and her fear so palpable when they asked her to go back. Her father was a nuisance and absolutely beyond logic when he tried to say things to her that you had a story before marriage and that you should have apologised to Khawar for Musa’s arrival on her marriage. He should have spoken loud and clear; Khawar will always be superior because he is a man and your husband and hence we will support him. The pain in Takbeer’s eyes, the betrayal in her heart was so aptly express by Madiha Imam’s body language that she steals the show every time she has a scene.

Faisal Qureshi might not be acting so bad but the role given to him is so confusing that it does not leave much room for performance. Today, Khawar’s mental illness had not raised its head. Rather, his every move was strategic till his alter ego appeared. If this is the writer’s way of showing mental illness, it is not doing much to enlighten the viewers. In another play Rasm e Duniya, another character Harib played by Sami Khan also has the same issues more or less. But, the mental illness is so well executed that you cannot help but feel for the abuser, because it is made very clear that he cannot help himself and his vulnerability is equally exposed as his cruelty. The subtle balance between the two is what makes such characters endearing. Khawar’s character, on the other hand does not extract any sympathy. There is nothing helpless about Khawar, even when he was holding hands together to ask forgiveness.

There was a twist in the serial when Ahmed is diagnosed with a heart defect. That was such a terrible moment for Khawar, Takbeer and Farhan since they were in the doctor’s office together. This angle of the story is totally unexpected and how this falls into the grand scheme of things will be made clear in the next episode, I think. Khawar has started blaming Takbeer that because she was upset and depressed while caring for Ahmed, a hole has been found in the baby’s heart. Just when you believe Khawar cannot stoop any lower, he will show you there is still long way to go down.

Younis Khan, the first Pakistani cricketer to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, donates his singed bat to ‘The Citizens Foundation’ (TCF) today.

Lately, Younis has also announced to donate the prize money worth Rs.10 million, that was awarded to him by the Prime Minister after the Champions Trophy win. He said that he will donate the prize money equally to three charitable organizations namely, Edhi Foundation, Indus Hospital and The Citizen’s Foundation.

Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai Episode 13 Review – Payback Has Started

Assalamoalikum..

So here we are with episode 12 of this drama. This episode introduced us to the characters as they have aged. Naheed’s daughter have all grown up now. We have Mehwish Qureshi as Iqra, Mariam Ansari as Anum and Saboor Ali as Amber, and so far none of the three have impressed with their impersonation of the younger girls. Maybe this will change as time passes and story moves ahead but currently, their casting has not clicked.

As the time has passed, Naheed has grown more confident and more sure of her decision to leave Sadiq’s house. She has raised able, confident and competent daughters who are sharing her financial and household burdens from a very young age. The way Naheed is shown celebrating their successes and remembering all that she had heard on giving birth to all daughters was very impressive. It gives a very powerful message that a woman can and should raise her kids alone if she is faced with the circumstances that Naheed saw in her husband’s home. Saima Noor has grown more graceful and wise and she is an absolute natural in the role. However, the mother daughter chemistry that she had with her little girls has yet to develop with the older ones. I hope it does get to that level again because it had given a very original feel to the drama.

Shehzad is very impressed by her sister’s efforts to raise her daughters and he has praised that a lot of times. Some things however, have not changed, like Fariha’s disdain and jealousy from Naheed, and Shehzad’s loss of reason and ability to think for his own self when faced with Fariha’s manipulation. They had come to congratulate on Amber’s grand success and Fariha managed to create a rift between brother and sister by mentioning that Naheed does not pay any heed to the proposals they have brought for Iqra over the years.

Iqra, it seems has not been able to study in order to shoulder some of the responsibilities that her mother had. Anum is shown doing MBBS and Amber is starting college in full scholarship and wants to work in an NGO along with that. Naheed’s conversation with Iqra was a very good reminder of that fact that fathers like Sadiq not only harm their kids’ childhood, but also scar them for life. Who can blame Iqra for never wanting to marry in her life after she had seen Naheed suffer needlessly at the hands of her husband. Anum is shown quite level headed and normal, whereas Amber harbours extreme bitterness, to the extent that she places cake and flowers outside her father’s home every month, with the icing saying Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai. So Naheed was able to give them everything except erase the scars that they had borne in the early years of their lives when their own father had treated them so badly. The writer has made a very good point of it. Both parents are very important in balanced upbringing of kids, otherwise they are certain to develop some eccentric traits.

In Sadiq’s and Anila’s household, things are going as predicted. Anila is reaping the rewards for being so proud on birthing sons, when those very sons are bringing nothing but disgrace to the family. Sadiq is reaping rewards for leaving his own flesh and blood for a blind obsession with male offsprings. It is very good that he is now left with two parasites in the form of stepsons, who cannot even manage their own responsibilities, let alone share Sadiq’s burden. He is very deservedly left all alone in his duties which he was so desperate for a son to share with that he shunned his own daughters. Only one son was shown in this episode and he was every bit as useless as he should be to serve Anila right for thinking that bearing sons should be enough to keep her head held high in pride.

Hope the next episode picks pace, now that characters are well introduced.

Coke Studio Season 10 – Artists and Music Directors line up!

Pakistan will soon be experiencing yet another season of Coke studio. Coke Studio season 10 is expected to be released in the month of August probably on 14th. The producers are obviously strings, however following the trend of season 9 this season will also have different music directors.

With the foundation laid by Rohail Hayatt, Coke studio indeed played a vital role in revival of Pakistani Music when it was in complete dissaray. Since its inception in 2008 Coke studio has remained the most popular musical television series featuring live studio music performances of various Pakistani singers.

Coke Studio Pakistan is considered a show-reel of Pakistani music and watched by people all around the globe specially in India. Pakistanis and Indians both wait curiously every year for the release of new season.

Of course we are feeling nostalgic as the tenth Season will soon hit our television screens. So till then let’s look into expected artists and music directors line up.

Featured artists line up:

1. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Coke Studio a better love story than Twilight! I forecast no dissatisfaction from his performances.

2. Amanat Ali: He previously appeared in season 3. His popular coke studio song is “Haq Maujood” sung along with Sanam Marvi. Expecting something more than usual from him.

3. Ali Sethi: This will be counted as his hat-trick appearance. He was part of Season 8 and 9 artists line up.

4. Aima Baig: The most anticipated appearance, got fame by singing three songs of Pakistani Movie “Lahore se Agay” and now there is no stopping of her. She will rock through her performance.

5. Ahmed Jhanzeib: Appeared in season 9 and nailed the song “Khaaki Banda” with Umair Jaswal. Expecting much better performance this time.

6. Attaulah Khan Esa Khelvi: No introduction required for this legend, he appeared previously in season 4.

7. Ali Hamza: This time he will appear as solo singer, let’s see what he has got in his pipeline.

8. Ali Zafar: Everyone’s favourite will again present something similar to song “Rockstar”. His performance will surely be a treat to watch.

9. Daniyal Zafar: Keeping in mind that he is a brother of Ali Zafar, daniyal might be a bomb blast for this season. Audience is waiting eagerly to hear his voice on screen.

10. Farhan Saeed: Jal performed in Coke studio season 4 with songs “Panchi” and “Aik aarzu” where Farhan was able to display his vocals on “Aik aarzu” only, the other was sung by Ali Gauhar. Now let’s see how he will enthrall the audience through his solo singing.

11. Humaira Arshad: First ever appearance in Coke studio.

12. Humaira Channa: She will perform second time in Coke Studio. Previously she appeared in CS Season 7.

13. Mominah Mustehsan: Reaching to heights of Fame through song “Afreen Afreen” in Coke Studio Season 9, Mominah is now a household name of Pakistani Music Industry with huge fan following on social media. Her performance will definitely be a much waited one.

14. Jabar Abbas: Jabar got unique singing style and probably that’s why for the second time he will be a part of Coke Studio artists line up.

15. Natasha Khan: This will be her second continuous appearance in Coke Studio. Hence she is aware of the decorum I hope this time Natasha will be able to make some mark.

16. Nabeel Shaukat Ali: There is no doubt on his singing abilities, he got such mesmerizing voice. In Coke Studio season 8 he came and he conquered with his performance. “Bewajah” is simply music to your ears.Yet another artist who will not disappoint us with his rendition in Season 10.

17. Quratul Ain Baloch: She performed first time in season 4 along with Jal and now for the fourth time she will beguile the audience with her flawless voice.

18. Salman Ahmed: It is expected that he will give tribute to Junaid Jamshed on song “Us Rah Per”. I hope he will not disappoint the viewers and JJ’s fan.

19. Shafqat Amanat Ali: Making his entry after season 2, Shafqat’s performance will be worth witnessing.

20. Strings: So in the history of Coke Studio, the producer will also feature in artists line up. They previously performed in Season 1 and 2, thus it will be a long awaited come back.

21. Umair Jaswal: Yet another hat-trick appearance in Coke Studio.

22. Zau Ali (Sajjad Ali’s Daughter): A wholly new entry in Pakistani Music but I am sure her vocals will not disappoint listeners considering she is daughter of Living Legend Sajjad Ali. Till then let’s wait for her debut performance in Coke Studio Season 8.

Being a Lux Girl is a status symbol in the industry. The new Lux girls are Mahira Khan, Mawra Hocane and Maya Ali. The launch event of the ad was held today at Nuplex Karachi. Maya unfortunately couldn’t attend the event because she is in Poland shooting for her upcoming movie Teefa In Trouble opposite Ali Zafar. Mawra was wearing a pastel pink gown while Mahira was seen in red; both representing the respective colours of soaps they endorse. The event was hosted by HSY. Yakeen Ka Safar Episode 13 Review – Brilliant!

Ohkay so, it was yet another interesting episode of Yakeen Ka Safar. I enjoyed watching this episode because it turned new pages of the story & things moved forward, giving the viewers enough reasons to keep on following it. I must say the consistency with which the director has directed this drama is commendable, not once you find loopholes or mistakes & everything is covered in such a convincing manner that it shows the grip that the director had on this script. I wish the approach of the director remains the same till the end of the drama.

So, my prediction was wrong & Majid wasn’t alive. Asfand succeeded in his attempt of reaching to Majid only to find out that even he couldn’t survive. Both Asfand & Daniyal’s friend immediately understood that it was none other than Rab Nawaz Shah who did this to Majid as well. For the first time, I liked how Asfand’s character came to the forefront & he showed a completely different personality. Yes, this is exactly what happens when you are faced with trials and tribulations, sadly Asfand is going through a rough phase because he understands the gravity of the situation & more than that, he has a motive, where he wants to prove Daniyal’s innocence. To be honest, I am actually glad that after this episode, I won’t get to see the actor playing the role of Faryal, like I am glad that her role is over & I’d suggest her to improve her acting & dialogue delivery before appearing in any other drama again because she is quite a weak actor. Faryal only spoke the words of her father & she also believed that Daniyal was guilty of all the charges that were pressed against him. Asfand like anyone who is emotionally shattered relied on Faryal to help him overcome this depression but she in stead of doing anything, pushed all the wrong buttons, but it is good that Asfand got to know about Faryal’s reality & got his answer that she is not interested in him anymore.

Noori had to take matters in her hand. Yes, she knew that she was fighting the powerful & she also saw how trying to go through the proper channel cost Daniyal his life, therefore she decided to deliver the verdict to the culprits herself. It is sad that she died as well but at least, she proved it that she was a victim & that Jahangir & Rab Nawaz were the culprits. That entire scenario was executed brilliantly, like Rab Nawaz wouldn’t have ever imagined that the girl he was speaking about was sitting right in front of him, waiting for the right moment to wipe that smug look off his face. Even though it is sad that Noori had such a small life span & that she died proving her innocence but at least, by this move, she also proved Daniyal’s innocence to some extent too because it showed people that Jahangir was guilty & he died while paying for his crimes!

What Gaiti’s mother said was shocking. Yes, being a parent & being someone who wants what’s best for her child, she shared what she had in her heart but the way Gaiti stood her ground made me respect her even more. She refused to listen to her mother because for her, this baby is always going to be a reminiscent of Daniyal, the perfect husband that she had. I felt so much for Gaiti when she was sitting alone in her room, thinking about Daniyal, it is unfortunate that she is going to spend the rest of her life like that but at least, she is ready to invest herself in her baby & she will make something out of her life for herself & most importantly for her child.

I am glad that Zubiya’s track moved forward too. It was interesting to see how Zubiya got the motivation to do well in her studies only because she knew that she had her father’s support. It shows how little encouragement does wonders to someone & this is exactly what happened with Zubiya too. She survived the rough patch & now she was planning to shape her future. It showed that Zubiya found a motive in her life, a goal that she was eager to achieve & what made it even better for her was the fact that her father was ready to support her every step of the way. The way Rehan suggested Zubiya’s wedding & the way Khalil chose to listen to that advice was also understandable, but I would’ve liked if Khalil had warned Rehan to mind his own business as well. Khalil knows that Rehan out of his hatred for Zubiya suggested that she should get married but in stead even he thought it was a good idea. To be honest, I am getting tired of Sheema & her rants, like there’s nothing good that comes out of her mouth & I wish she gets zero coverage because she’s off-putting. Anyways, it does seem like Zubiya got a proposal from a decent family, but let’s see how things are going to unfold.

Overall, this episode was quite interesting. It was good that Asfand got some coverage & we got to know more about him. He most certainly is not going to sit quietly but I have a feeling that he will be discouraged by Usman. In the precap, the way Usman suggested moving to a new place goes to show that he is just a coward who is not ready to face the reality, like I know losing Daniyal has taken a toll on him but to see him trying to move on in such a way only shows that he has no backbone to fight for the right by defending his son & trying to prove his innocence. At least Asfand is going to try but I am sure Usman won’t let that happen. Everyone’s acting in this episode was spot on, I for the first time enjoyed Ahad Raza Mir‘s presence & performance in this drama & I hope Asfand’s character keeps on getting better.
