Yes! you heard it right, Sarah Khan and Agha Ali just made an announcement on Instagram and we couldn’t be more happier. However, we’re not sure if they have exchanged the rings already or not.

Yasir Hussain’s Distasteful Comment On Hum Awards

This was not the first time that Yasir Hussain hosted an award show but this was the first time that he made a comment which was criticized strongly by everyone, from celebrities to social activities and the common man. While giving Ahsan Khan his award he commented, “Itna Khoobsurat child molester, kash mei bhi bacha hota.”

Ahsan Khan played the role of a child molester in drama serial Udaari which was meant to educate the masses about child molestation. Ahsan Khan himself said that playing such a monstrous character was a challenge for him and there were many times when he wanted to kill this character.

There was outrage on social media from every corner after the show, Yasir Hussain apologized for his careless behaviour and the reckless comment.

Sammi Episode 14 Review – Brilliant!

Sammi is turning out to be one of those very few dramas which get better with every passing episode. All the tracks in the story were once again beautifully covered in detail and there were some surprises in store for the viewers too. What I absolutely love about this play is that there are times when I want the story to take a certain turn but the actual twist in the story is contrary to my expectations yet it turns out to be even more meaningful and has a bigger impact. For instance, I wanted and expected  Chandni’s character to play the role of an anti-hero probably because Sania Saeed is playing the role and she hardly ever chooses to play a negative role but what we saw today was Karma. Chandni thought that if she planned everything perfectly, her son will be back and Sammi will be gone forever. She did not pause to think what might happen to Sammi when her brother finds her but she made sure that Waqas knew that he should not kill Salar. It was a perfect plan but she learned the hard way that you cannot control everything. Up till the point when Chandni was pressurizing Salar to leave Sammi, she was just being selfish but when she told Waqas about Sammi’s whereabouts and did not try to save her, she was being cruel and was an accomplice to this crime. It went to show that it wasn’t just people like Chaudhry and Waqas who think they could treat people any way they want as long as it suits their needs but even someone like Chandni who knows better would become party to something like this if it suited her. Salar’s death came as a complete surprise, I did not see that coming at all but it definitely had more of an impact on me and gave out a very powerful message.

Naheed’s track also took an interesting turn, I call it interesting and not tragic just yet because we are not sure whether Ghulam Rasool was the one who signed those divorce papers and also because Aalyan is not as helpless as Salar, he is a very solid support who is continuously reminding his father that he does not own Naheed. I absolutely love the way the writer has logically conveyed some very important and relevant messages to the viewers. Every time Naheed’s brother tries to give a wrong meaning to Naheed and Ghulam Rasool’s relationship, Aalyan steps in and explains the obvious. I am certain there are many brothers, fathers and husbands out there who must get uncomfortable while watching this show because there are many houses even in the most modern cities which are male dominated. Even if a woman is earning and is responsible enough to look after herself, men still think they know better.

The director Saife Hassan deserves tons of credit for his skillful direction. The scene in which Waqas entered the house and searched for Sammi was brilliantly directed. Also, when he was tying Sammi to the tree, the whole scenario was shown very realistically. The mob, people who were more interested in making videos than saving the girl and a brother who was so sure that he was doing the right thing, all of these aspects were covered flawlessly.

Adnan Siddiqui is brilliant as Rashid, there are times when I truly feel for him. Rashid’s character is interesting because he is free to go wherever he wants and he can easily live a life different from this one but his mind is imprisoned. One can easily see why he cannot think freely and change his life for good; his mother always tells him that he is Chaudhry’s naukar, Chaudhry treats him like a dog because he feels that he is a paltu kutta and in between all these people and the system, he has lost his identity. The preview of the next episode was superb, I don’t want to make any predictions but I hope that Rashid turns against Chaudhry and realizes that he is capable of being a much better person.

This had to be one of my most favorite episodes of Sammi. It is always great watching a play which is brilliantly written and executed superbly. There are no loop holes whatsoever in the script and the messages are right on point. It is not an easy task to handle so many tracks but the Sammi team managed to get the work done flawlessly. There have been no filler episodes so far and the story is interesting and unpredictable. This drama also has some amazing performances to its credit. Bilal Khan has definitely given me a reason to tune into his next drama, he couldn’t have picked a better character and team for his debut drama. You expect actors like Rehan Sheikh, Adnan Siddiqui, Madiha Rizvi and Sania Saeed to deliver because they know their craft only too well but it is especially wonderful to watch actors like Haris Waheed and Ahad Raza Mir making their presence felt in roles which are very challenging. Also, Malik Raza has yet again proven his versatility by nailing another difficult role.

Can’t wait to watch the next episode of Sammi! Please share your thoughts about this episode.

Tumhare Hain Episodes 1-14 Overview – Keeping It Real

So I figured enough of the ‘mean’ articles and reviews. Especially since the day I posted my last article Ghardari 101 and my washing machine died on me that evening I could not help wonder (while I wallowed in self pity and handwashed uniforms) who I may have angered, haha. But jokes aside, while a few new promising dramas have recently begun to air and the cringe worthy ones are living up to their ‘purpose’ there are a handful that do not blow you away but make for an interesting and entertaining enough watch. One of such dramas, in my opinion, is Tumhare Hain.

Tumhare Hain airs on ARY Digital at 9pm PST. At first it aired on Mondays and then was moved to Fridays a few weeks ago. Written by Parisa Siddiqui and directed by Sherazade Shaikh, the drama stars Agha Ali, Sara Khan and Rabab Hashim as its main leads. Rayaan (Agha Ali) and Zoya (Rabab Hashim) are best friends and neighbours. Their friendship seems to be just that and something that seemingly their families also accept and understand. Zoya is in love with Daniyal (Hassan Ahmed) who belongs to a rich and affluent family. The families do not approve of their relationship so the two elope and then as real life settles in and financial struggles enter the front door, love seems to go out the window. Daniyal has been used to a comfortable, plush life so worrying about jobs, utility and rent bills gets too much for him. His mother (Shaheen Khan) knows her son well and to cut a long story short, she came, she screamed and she conquered -and took her six foot baby boy back home.

Zoya is now left homeless. And then divorced. Meanwhile, Rayaan is a carefree character who lives with his parents. His father (Behroze Sabzwari) constantly puts him down and thinks he takes life too lightly, whereas his mother (Huma Nawab) seems to be one who is constantly trying to keep the peace between father and son. Anyway, Raayan meets Aania (Sara Khan) at a mutual friend’s wedding and both begin to develop feelings for each other. While Aania’s parents put pressure on her to have Rayaan’s family send a proposal so his intentions can be made clear, Zoya faces one issue after the other and Rayaan finds himself rushing to her rescue, time and again. With Zoya’s father’s death and Zoya in a vulnerable place still reeling from the divorce and miscarriage, her mother manages to convince her that Rayaan is the only one who can (and happily wants to) give her a shoulder to lean on. Well more than a shoulder really and managing to emotionally blackmail Rayaan too – both Zoya and Rayaan agree to the marriage. Aania tries to talk sense into Rayaan but he has marked himself out to be the ultimate martyr and savior and feels he needs to choose friendship over love (excuse the cheesiness). Aania also gives in to her parents’ wishes and marries Kamil (Ahmed Hassan) a family friend.

Hereon, we see how both couples try (or do not try) to make their respective marriages work. Yawning yet? I agree, sounds very run of the mill and has ‘watched this a gazillion’ times written all over it. Which brings me to why such a typical story manages to keep me entertained. Firstly, I like how the focus is on each character and their emotions without all the excess background noise (read useless characters and tracks) that make their way into most dramas. There are two couples and this drama is their story. Yes, families have their roles to play but there is no focus on the sudden and elaborate romantic track of say Zoya’s sister (well not yet) that takes away the attention from the main characters. Secondly, I like how there are no desperate, clinging or scheming characters. Yes, Daniyal’s mother is a negative character and she played with his emotions and mind to bring him back. Also, Rayaan’s father is a constant source of tension yet while these negative bits are present, they are bearable and not overdone. When Rayaan made it clear to Aania that things are over, she was miserable but did not begin to screech and stalk. Zoya tried to see Daniyal and understand what and why has happened but once it was clear that that door had closed, yes she had her own sad fest but I like how she is trying to accept her changed circumstances and take things in stride.

Rayaan’s mother is another pleasant surprise. A mother and mother in law who is surprise, surprise – a human being. No raging, scheming banshee here. She understands and respects Rayaan’s decision and while she does not approve of her husband’s antics she does not give in to the helpless, victimized mother role and especially in the latest episode when she sends her daughter in law out to enjoy an evening out with her son and manages to keep the peace at home too is something that seemed somehow realistic to me. I really liked how she explained to Rayaan that if he had chosen to support his best friend and married her then just signing the nikkah papers was not enough. Making the marriage actually work mattered too. Another thing that appealed to me was how Kamil (Aania’s husband) and Rayaan are not constantly lost in their wives’ pasts and accept that yes they had a history but that is what it was – their past. One thing that I do find hard to stomach is elfy Kamil. I find his ‘talk to me’ chorus a bit unreal but it is nice to see how he seemed accepting of Aania’s ‘explanation’ and how both of them are beginning to grow close.

So, while the story seems nothing new I feel that the characters do not lose touch with reality and that appeals a lot to me in a drama. Also, I liked how the setup was kept real. No fancy overdressed housewives, simple households, etc. I was not a big fan of Agha Ali at first when in his initial dramas the constant bobbing of his head was extremely distracting. But he has improved a lot, I feel. Especially since Tum Yaad Aye where he made so many of us fall in love with Sherry’s character, I do make it a point to tune into his dramas. While the conversations with Zoya seemed a bit forced at times, trying to convince the viewers how they are just ‘buddies’ but for the most part it worked for me. Sara Khan is another actress who has grown on me over time and I found her acting, especially her smiles and reactions when talking to Agha Ali or later to Ahmed Hassan seemed so natural that I did not feel that I was watching her ‘act’. Rabab Hashim is one actress who seems to pick herself up from the sets of one drama to another in exactly the same attires, appearance and emotions. She does not blow me away with her acting but I can not really fault her as such either. Hassan Ahmed is another actor who has the same expressions, same tone of voice, same acting in each drama. Here too he lived up to his typical pained, suspicious detective look. I am aware that Ahmed Hassan has appeared in a few dramas and I have not watched him act before Tumhare Hain but he seems to be doing a decent job here.

The OST is also something that although is not amazing, it is a bit soothing after listening to it a few times. I do love the instrumental version of it though that plays in a few scenes during an episode.

Either the treatment given to a drama should be such where you are transported into another world such as probably Sang e Marmar and now Alif, Allah aur Insaan seem to be to cite a few examples. But when the drama does not have that wow factor then there has to be something that stands out in the drama that catches your attention and everything I have mentioned above is what contributes to making, in my opinion, Tumhare Hain an entertaining watch. When I began writing this overview I had not watched the preview of the next episode and given my luck with drama reviews, I may have jinxed this drama too for the preview shows that Rayaan’s and Aania’s paths will cross again and I am curious to see which way the writer chooses to go. I will not be reviewing this drama weekly but I felt it was something interesting to watch and wrote the overview for those of you who are looking for something light-ish to watch and to hear the thoughts of those who are already following it. Is there anyone else besides me who enjoys watching this drama? What appeals to you about this drama – or am I the only one? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai Episode 4 Review – Highs & Lows

Thankfully, the foxy did not get all the attention it got in the previous two episodes and this episode focused more on Waqar than any other character. It also gave the viewers more of an insight into the relationship between Maheen and Waqar. Waqar apparently does not like the fact that Maheen gets so much attention from everyone therefore he does whatever he can to make her miserable and ultimately faked a fracture in this episode because he knew that he won’t be spared this time around. Honestly speaking, I really enjoyed watching Imran Abbas play such a character because his character in Tum Kon Piya was very mature and practical.

There were a lot of scenarios in tonight’s episode which came across as a good surprise; from the I hate you scene to the one in which Maheen and Waqar bumped into one another, everything had a fresh feel to it. In any other love story these two would have fallen in love already but this was most certainly not the case here. Maheen didn’t really faint when she bumped into Waqar but she too wanted everyone to think that the intensity of this accident was much more than it actually was. Instead of feeling for Maheen and apologizing to her, Waqar went looking for a cover up, in fact something which will take the attention away from Maheen! I loved the way this entire track was handled, right now these two people cannot even stand one another therefore I am waiting to find out how their relationship evolves in the future.

Jia and Maheen’s meeting didn’t work for me at all, the word “mar janiye” sounded really weird and the fact that the entire conversation was about Waqar was rather strange too. Right now, Jia’s character is the only one which isn’t appealing to me at all. It didn’t seem like she liked Waqar before in that way but once she knew he wasn’t there to get engaged to Maheen, she wanted more from this relationship. Not just this, all of the conversations between Waqar, Fajr and Ali too were about Maheen. Also, there wasn’t a single scene of Maheen with her “gang members”. It is also strange that none of the family members, other than Neelam and Gulrez talked about the proposal after the birthday.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai Episode 4 Review - Highs & Lows

Wali’s character is also turning out to be an interesting one mainly because of the fact that although he is Gulrez’s brother in law but he looks out for him and understands him more than his sister. Neelam’s conversations with Gulrez are frank and show how close these two are to each other but Wali is the one who knows Gulrez inside out. Neelam’s conversation with Gulrez tonight showed that he will never go and ask Maheen what her answer was going to be or why she reacted like that to the proposal because he does not have the confidence to do that.

The second half of the episode was much better than the first one but if I had to compare, I would say that the first episode was the best. I am enjoying this show and I am also curious to find out what happens next but this entire show would have been so much better if all the tracks got a certain amount of screen time in every episode instead of focusing on different characters and tracks more than others in every episode. Sammi is one such drama in which there are multiple tracks but all these tracks get plenty of screen time in every episode.

Titlee Episode 15 Review – Thoroughly Entertaining

This episode was thoroughly entertaining but the recent turn in the story could have been very shocking as well if the main twist wasn’t given away first in the preview of this episode and then in the short clip during this episode, which showed what was coming next. I never had trouble relating to all the characters in this play and although the story is simple but I still feel that the writer has shown realistically how one person like Nayla can ruin everything for a family which had always been happy. Although Ahmed’s parents appear to be too good to be true sometimes but the writer through different dialogues and scenarios has made it quite clear that they are the kind of people who will do anything to keep a relationship intact therefore I see them more as decent individuals who have worked hard to get where they are today and never felt the need to play games especially in the family. Amir’s character is also a balancing factor in this whole equation. He always confronts Nayla and never had a high opinion of her. He showed his good upbringing by giving her respect when she became part of the family but later on changed his attitude towards her completely when she showed her true colors. Also, Ahmed is clearly fed up of Nayla and does not trust her anymore. That is why Nayla told his parents not to tell him what they were planning to do.

What Nayla did today was completely in line with her character. She has always been shown as someone who is stubborn and believes in manipulating people who love her. This drama also shows why it is so important to teach your children to compromise. Nayla always got away with everything one way or the other therefore she never had to compromise. Right now, she has absolutely no problems in Ahmed’s house but even then she moved out only because she wants to be in control, she wants to show them that she will do what she wants no matter what anyone says. For the first time, I am actually enjoying the performance and presence of a negative character in a lead role. Nayla is always the star of the show. Even with everything she has done so far, somehow she always come across as someone who just does not know better. The way she gave everyone a treat and sat in front of everyone while she “checked” the papers clearly showed that she thought she was doing the right thing. I have praised Hania Amir’s performance a lot in every single review and I just want to praise her more every time I see a new episode of Titlee. She is truly talented and is the kind of actress who knows exactly what is expected from her. I am sure this character wouldn’t have been so grey if some other actress was playing the role.

Titlee Episode 15 Review - Thoroughly Entertaining

The first half of the episode gave the impression that Nayla had changed for good and even though the surprise factor was completely missing from this episode, it was still interesting watching how she went about executing her plan. Ahmed’s mother’s expressions when Nayla suggested that her father in law should help her buy an apartment for her girls were right on point. She wasn’t sure if this was a good idea but when her husband was more than willing to help Nayla, she also agreed with him. Seemi Pasha is elegant and graceful; she was the perfect choice for playing this role. The actor playing Amir’s role is also getting better with every passing episode. Titlee is turning out to be an interesting play which keeps me looking forward to more. Apart from Ahmed’s hairstyle and beard which changed a few times in this episode, everything else about this episode was picture perfect. The previews of the upcoming episodes however should not reveal so much.

If you are looking for a fast paced play which doesn’t have anything grand to offer but will definitely keep you entertained then do tune into Titlee.

Naila Jaffri Refuses To Accept Aid From The government, Here’s Why!

Pakistani veteran actor Naila Jaffery has been suffering from cancer and is bravely fighting it out. She had earlier applied to get help from the government but will no longer accept it.

According to The Express Tribune, a cheque of rupees 500,000 is in the process of being issued to her but she will no longer accept it in order to protest, since the government has allowed an Indian tycoon Sajjan Jindal in Pakistan with a no-police-inquiry visa.

“I cannot accept a dime from the government that entertains people from the very country that has been plotting against us our interests and our people,” she told The Express Tribune.

“I am glad that the government decided to offer me help but I really can’t accept this fund under present circumstances. The love, respect and prayers I have received from my people when they came to know of my illness is unimaginable and I won’t do anything that hurts their feelings.”

“I don’t know why everyone thinks I would actually want to marry Mahira,” Shares Junaid Khan

Last week, Junaid Khan was put on the spot at an interview with QYT. He was asked to choose between Urwa Hocane, Mahira Khan and Saba Qamar. The question was, ‘Out of Urwa Hocane, Mahira and Saba Qamar – who would you avoid, date and marry?’

To which Junaid replied, “I would avoid Urwa, date Saba and marry Mahira. Man, I wish that last bit would come true!”

His statement was the latest trend in Pakistan. However, in an interview with GalaxyLollywood, Junaid Khan clarified the whole thing.

#Islamabad was crazyyy. #facemusicmela #CALL #Live

A post shared by Junaid Khan (@calljunaidkhan) on

“Qasim asked me the question and I had to answer. It’s just one of those things. Doesn’t mean more than that,” said Junaid.

“I don’t know why everyone thinks I would actually want to marry Mahira. I just chose the option I felt at the moment,” he added.

Good Morning Pakistan Shadi Week – Seriously!?!

Ohkay so, while doing some household chore, I needed a background noise, so I decided to tune to Good Morning Pakistan, as I was in a mood for some celebrity interview but the first thumbnail in the Good Morning Pakistan archive on Dramasonline caught my eye as it had an image of Nida Yasir & Noor Bukhari. I thought they both must be conducting a show together so let’s just give it a whirl & to add to my woes & to some laughter fits, I found out they were conducting a Shadi Week on Good Morning Pakistan, where every single day a celebrity couple was modelling for them & was getting re-married for the sake of the show. Well, I think I got lucky to laugh because the episode that I watched was dedicated to the Baraat Function & guess which celebrity was getting married in this show? It was Syed Jibran with his wife of 5 years Afifa!

Well, the episode began with Nida & Noor badmouthing people who attend weddings & have no manners, like this was something so new that I immediately left everything & wanted to hear their profound conversation on the subject (coughing sarcasm). Nida made faces while telling how people waste food & how they grab soft drinks as if they have never had any before, hmmmm, such a beautiful conversation to start your or anyone’s day with, hai na? What level of hosting I must say!

Nida then walked towards some ‘Thaal’ that she had prepared for some ‘Rasm’ but the Thaal here is not a thing to be rejoiced upon, what actually should be appreciated is the fact that Nida put a lot of emphasis on the fact that she conducted some ‘RESEARCH’ & found out about this beautiful Rasm that she was now going to ‘teach’ to all those viewers who were tuned to her show right now. The word research caught me off guard as I am sure this concept was something brand new to Nida because if she had an idea what the art of researching was, she would’ve conducted it before she interviewed the students that prepared Pakistan’s First Electric Formula Racing Car to save herself the shame of not knowing what a Formula Racing Car is by asking them stupid questions. I am sure by now a lot of you guys already know about this but if you don’t, don’t worry, I will be pasting the link of the write up in which I spoke about the not-so-intelligent incident. Well, in the beginning Nida & Noor took pride in the ratings & the positive feedback that they were getting, which forced me to nod my head in a state of pity for both these women who sounded so deluded!

Good Morning Pakistan Shadi Week - Seriously!?!

Since, Nida made so much of an emphasis on the word ‘research’ it compelled me to do some myself to find out how many words a woman speaks on a daily basis, so the answer that I got was 20,000. Well I am speaking about this for a reason but let me share the backstory which pushed me to do this ‘research’. When Nadia Khan came back from her 5 year break & was asked time & again about the reasons why she bid farewell to her show that was doing so well in terms of popularity, the first thing that Nadia said was that being a morning show host was taking a toll on her vocal chords & her doctor clearly told her that if she keeps this up, she will end up losing her voice. At first I actually thought that she was just giving excuses because the actual reason behind her leaving the show was her spat with Noor’s husband that cost her, her morning show but then Nadia played an old clip from her previous show & then spoke on the current show again to draw a comparison & yes, even I was astonished with the difference in her voice. Nadia put things into perspective by saying that her chords needed a break & she needed a therapy to recover.

So yes, now it’s time for me to make my point, since my ‘research’ told me that women on an average speak 20,000 words, for Nida ever since she has started hosting Good Morning Pakistan; this number must be around 500,000 I believe (read I am sure). So, now if you listen to her, you can clearly see her voice giving up on her where she now sounds husky & manly, exactly the symptoms that Nadia described & later proved by showing her old footage. I think this will be my public service message to Nida that she either needs to calm her chords down or needs to make an appointment with the doctor ASAP because she has literally ruined her voice & her incessant yelling & screaming like an infant doesn’t help her either. Giving up on morning show would be an ideal situation but I know this is something that will never happen since Nida intends to celebrate her Silver or Golden Jubilee of her wedding on Good Morning Pakistan so yes, even if she doesn’t want to leave hosting, the best she can do is fix her voice up as she doesn’t sound appeasing to the ears & God Bless all those whose brain cells get damaged (me included) every time she screams “OOOOKAYYYYYYYYYY”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning Pakistan Shadi Week - Seriously!?!

Anyways, let’s move forward to the actual Baraat celebration, which started off by ladies adorned in extremely heavy but completely sponsored joras making it to the stage riding motor bikes hahahah! Jibran as a Dulha made an entry in a red convertible BMW with ‘Dhoom Macha Le’ song playing in the background. I think Nida is doing Dhoom franchise a favor where she is giving free ideas to the producers of Dhoom Series that if they ever feel like making Dhoom – Shadi Edition, this is how the hero or the villain can make an entry with their ladyloves, adorned from head to toe, sitting behind them looking like useless mannequins, like how all these ladies looked on those bikes. Also, God Bless the guy who rode the bike that Ambar Khan was sitting at as it’s not easy giving a bike ride to a woman your mother’s age, haddi wadi toot jati to us becharay pe blame aa jata but fortunately, he had a lot of control so well done boy! Anyways, If I am not mistaken, ARY takes pride in their ‘Made In Pakistan’ & ‘Pakistani Tujhe Salam’ slogans, so not sure why this entire show was echoing with Bollywood songs. Anyways, later Jibran’s wife made an entry on a Doli which Nida promised will move itself but I spotted 2 guys pushing it LOOOOL! I can’t stop laughing!

Good Morning Pakistan Shadi Week - Seriously!?!

I won’t comment on Jibran’s wife Afifa because she’s a very sweet girl who seemed genuinely happy plus she has nothing to do with the industry so it’s ohkay. Afifa only had to attend this fiasco because she happens to be Jibran’s wife but yes, I will say that Jibran, I expected better from you. I think Jibran gave Nida a huge favor since the point was also made how Jibran & Yasir Nawaz are best friends so this turned out to be their milli bhaggat where I am sure Jibran wouldn’t have been able to refuse his clingy Nida Bhabhi! I must say Afifa looked absolutely gorgeous but too bad she was at Nida’s show because the moment she started speaking in English that too in her British accent, she got snubbed by Nida thrice since I am sure Nida’s brain cells weren’t in a condition to translate what Afifa was saying to her & very conveniently she used the audience as an excuse to convince Afifa to speak in Urdu, once again showcasing how ill-mannered she is.

Good Morning Pakistan Shadi Week - Seriously!?!

Well the show progressed with a game segment where Afifa & Jibran had to make some promises to each other. I think more than that segment, what I found interesting & ridiculously amusing was Noman Javaid’s input in the whole scenario, where he reminded me of those uncles at the weddings who keep on cracking jokes & keep on laughing at those jokes themselves because no one else bothers paying attention to what they are saying. LOL! Like it was good seeing Noman Javaid keeping himself entertained with his punch-less jokes, but I must appreciate his enthusiasm because even after getting ignored for may be a thousand times, he didn’t give up. That my friend is the spirit to be on a morning show!

The show didn’t stop there, it had some performances too but by this time my ears were in severe pain so I had to forward them but the glimpse that I caught of Sana Fakhar’s performance on ‘Dhol Bajay’ was enough to tell me that she was not only having a hard time in carrying herself on her two delicate feet, she also was having an issue controlling the dress that she was wearing because after a certain point, she was ungracefully all over the stage, lol! The second performance was done by Natasha & Arbaz Khan & I didn’t bother watching it.

Apart from Ambar, Kiran & Binita (since they make a living out of these morning shows) I found all the other celebrities redefining the proverb ‘begaani shaadi mai Abdullah deewana’. However, there were a few celebrities who conducted themselves very gracefully like Tipu Sharif, Humera Arshad & Fizza Ali because after a certain point they all seemed aloof to their surroundings as if they only attended this ‘wedding’ as a formality & weren’t interested much in what was happening around them & most importantly why! Well, by the time Nida announced that all the actors will have to cry in a funny way to make Rukhsati ‘light-hearted’, I gave up because this is not a joke, I felt mentally tired & I went for a nap to recover my brain cells from the scrutiny they were put through!

So, while watching this show, even though I had a good time because I was laughing at the circus that was happening in front of me, I was wondering about the message that they were giving to the audience. There were times when Nida made an emphasis on the ‘rasms’ & the ‘tips’ of a happy married life that she was ‘teaching’ to her viewers but on a bigger scale, what else did she teach? Are they so dumb to not know that by glorifying these types of lavish weddings, they are setting a wrong precedent? What are they showing to their impressionable audience that this is how weddings should be? With marriages being difficult these days because of their affordability & the cost that they come with, in stead of teaching people how they can cut the costs, these shallow-minded, dim-witted show hosts & their teams come up with these Shadi weeks to promote the idea of big fat weddings as if those who won’t have these kinds of weddings, won’t have prosperity in their sacred union?

Seriously starting from their hair-dyes to the nail polishes on their toes, to these sets to their dresses, their makeups & their jewelry, every single thing is sponsored so what are they trying to tell to the audience that this is the standard & they have to follow it even if they can’t afford it? These show hosts should know better that even if their dresses are sponsored, the people who are watching them will have to buy them with their hard-earned money so what kind of vicious circle are they initiating? Why is it that in so many years, I have never come across one such show where Nida or her team had done some ‘RESEARCH’ to help people wisely budget their weddings & cut the unnecessary costs that put a burden on those who are arranging weddings for their family members? Like while watching this 1 hour show (which I covered in less than 30 minutes), all I could think of was what a waste of time & resources this show was. While watching this show, I was just looking forward to one intelligent or important piece of advice that all those celebrities present at the show might give to the audience but the ratio of stupidity to intelligence was 100:0. Seriously, where marriages have become so difficult for regular people because of all these societal standards & norms, the media should take responsibility in teaching people better in stead of glorifying these standards for everyone to follow & in stead of conducting these Shadi weeks to kill their severe boredom!

Shame on them I swear!

“Feminism is a responsibility,” Says Saba Qamar

Lux Style Awards were held this month and the star-studded night was filled with a lot of glamour and amazing moments. Before the event started, the celebrities were asked what they have to say regarding feminism and their responses were not so impressive, to say the least. Only a few responded properly while the others either refused to comment or didn’t have much to say on the subject.

During an interview with Instep, the gorgeous Saba Qamar was asked to share her views on this topic to which she questioned, “Do these women know what feminism is?”

“Feminism is a responsibility,” the actress told Instep. “Being a feminist is a whole lot of responsibility in the form of mother, a sister, a worker as well as dealing with society. I have to promote my film, go for shooting, look after my household and also face the government officials for tax related affairs. It’s a kind of sacrifice for women. A woman is strong enough to deal with all of this.”

Nazr e Bad Episode 27 & 28 Review – Turning Villain Into A Hero!?!

Ohkay so, I wish I could say that these two episodes of Nazr e Bad were interesting, but I don’t want to lie because they were not. I am somehow feeling cheated because they have not only slowed down the pace of the drama but have stopped making any progress in the story. All of a sudden, it looks like someone else took over as a writer & has clearly lost the plot, that is why everything that has been happening since last few weeks has no correlation to the actual story & the purpose of the drama. I really wish they pick up the pace, up their game & start giving us convincing episodes like they used to which actually kept the interest alive in the show, rather than just testing the patience of the viewers now!

To be honest, I am not understanding Maham’s nature & attitude at all. I hate the way they show us someone else in the beginning & when the episodes pass by, they turn them into completely different person & this is exactly what has been done to Maham’s character too. The way she was rejoicing at her shopping made her look so desperate & greedy as if she has never seen things like these before her marriage to Parvez, whereas it was made clear that Shafeeq & Nusrat were financially stable enough to give their children a very comfortable life, so not sure which teenager’s soul took over Maham’s body that she started acting like a child. Yes, the only good trait that Maham showed in these two episodes was where she took a stand for her mother against Almas & Humera’s bullying, this reminded me of the Maham that was introduced in the initial episodes who always stood up for herself & her family!

I am glad that the Do Muh Wala Baba got less amount of coverage in these episodes because to be honest, I dread his scenes & do not look forward to his role at all, so it was good that he wasn’t doing much this time. Yes, I did feel that he was causing troubles for Parvez while still trying to make him feel that he was wronging those who work for him, that is why Parvez looked confused half of the time!

I hate to see how they are turning Parvez, a villain into Parvez the hero. I just don’t understand what are they trying to achieve by showing Parvez as a perfect husband who can fight with his own mother for his wife? Parvez made omelette for Maham, aww how cute, like seriously, for a guy who can kill people & an unborn child without batting an eyelid, frying an omelette is not a big deal, so please!!! I really think they need to stop right there & shouldn’t even try to fix Parvez’s image because no matter what, he is someone who deserves server punishment for all that he has done till date. Whoever, in the team of Nazr e Bad has sympathy for Parvez’s character should be given a backseat & he should have no say in the future episodes because I am sure he is responsible for the drama losing its purpose!

I can’t believe that even after seeing Parvez burning a few papers, Maham didn’t question him what he was doing? Parvez made a lame excuse & Maham bought that while completely ignoring the papers that were on the floor? Also, didn’t Maham eavesdrop on Parvez & Almas & heard him say that he could make Almas listen to the entire conversation that she had with Maham again, so why didn’t Maham find it odd? I expected fireworks when Maham spotted Almas doing some magic but in stead she blew some Surahs on Parvez thinking he needs protection, like seriously? I so wish they hadn’t deprived Maham of her brains at this stage of the drama because this is the time when she needs that part to function properly to put two & two together!

Well, I am getting tired of the Jethani Devrani taunting spree now. This drama was appealing & interesting because it showed these sort of family politics & dynamics in a very different light but to see it being elaborated in such a typical manner is such a shame. Also, it was amusing that Ahmer was angry at his mother for not depending on him & not asking him for financial help, like hello, are you blind or are you not living in the same house for you to be so oblivious of the obvious that your mother is having difficulties with the household expenses. Chalo, looks like he made some promises to his mother, so let’s see if he’ll be able to walk the talk!

I found it amusing that anytime something happened or Maham thought of something, Parvez’s invisible antennas on his head picked that thing up & gave him the signals, like Maham saw Almas, so the very next day Parvez told Almas about it. Now what is he going to do? Cast some more magic on Maham to keep her deluded for the rest of her life? Parvez’s repetitive mention of how he can’t lose Maham is getting boring now. We know that you can’t afford to lose Maham because before anything, you’d resort to even powerful magic to keep that from happening!

Anyways, honestly speaking, these two episodes were boring, especially with Almas & Shazia getting way more coverage than required. I am not sure what the writer is trying to establish using Shazia’s character because she is not only useless but so desperate that she puts all the desperados like Jeena to shame. Every time I see Parvez getting a positive limelight, I feel disgusted because when this drama began & when they showed everything with so much of honesty, this was the last thing that I expected that they will eventually start showing Parvez as a hero! Sara Khan looks absolutely gorgeous but I wish her character of Maham had some sensibility & personality especially at this stage of the drama. Not too happy with how things have been unfolding lately, but still hoping that things will get better. Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Nazr e Bad!

Cheers,

PS: Yes, this time around when Almas was trying to help Nusrat with some money, I sighed with relief when she mentioned that when they both used to share the kitchen, Nusrat would spend money to buy food for Almas’s family too. Since, there was a whole debate going on last week where the point was being made that Nusrat instigated Almas’s jealousy because she never shared the food, so I hope that settles the curiosity of some of the viewers!

“I actually really like performing what is non-verbal sometimes,” Shares Kent S Leung

Pakistani movie Chalay Thay Saath released recently and it perfectly encapsulates the beautiful locations of Hunza and Gilgit, the bond of friendship and the love a person hold for their home.

Images got in touch with the team of Chalay Thay Saath and here’s what they said:

Syra Shahroz reflected on her decision to sign on to the project: “I felt like [director Umer Adil and producer Beenish Umer] had a vision and this could be something good,” she recalls.

Canadian-Chinese actor Kent S Leung thought the language barrier wasn’t a big deal: “I actually really like performing what is non-verbal sometimes,” he revealed.

Producer Beenish Umer couldn’t get over this one difficult sequence: “We were in Hunza and sunrise was around 4:30. We got very little time to shoot a sequence! They had a flight to catch, we were on a clock and we had to send them because they would have missed their flights otherwise.”

On the whole, the project was meant to “show a different kind of cinema that people will relate to rather than follow an international style,” said director Umer Adil.

Kent further said, “I’m hoping there’s going to be actual co-productions between China and Pakistan, where they have characters who speak in Mandarin and characters who speak in Urdu. I think that would be a great opportunity for everyone.”

Yakeen Ka Safar Episode 02 Review – Phenomenal Performances!

Ohkay so, what an episode it was, packed with such phenomenal performances. While watching this episode of Yakeen Ka Safar, I don’t think I looked away from the TV screen even for a second, because the director & all the actors gave their 100% & created magic on screen. Yes, the theme of the drama is based on social issues but it is good to see our drama-makers exploring that dimension & bringing such stories which give something to the viewers to take with them when the episode ends. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode & a few actors surely made it a treat to watch.

So, Zubiya confessed to her Aunt Mehjabeen that it was her father Khalil who killed his wife. They gave us a detailed insight into Khalil’s mentality as this time around where it was made clear that he was not only in denial but tried using fate & destiny as a shield to cover his crime. Even Khalil knew that he committed a mistake & he was responsible for the death of his wife but he chose to erect a wall so strong that no one could imagine trespassing. The way Khalil told his his children to not utter a word against him showed his insecurities & shed a light on the fact that even he knew he was guilty of murdering his wife, otherwise a rigid man like him wouldn’t have showed his weak side to his family & wouldn’t have cared but he did. Zubiya considered herself responsible for her mother’s death because she was the one who tagged her mother along & that riled her father up, that is why she had to vent out. Somehow, I felt it was good that Mehjabeen was by Zubiya’s side, even though she couldn’t do much for Zubiya but at least, she put her aching heart to ease & comforted her which she needed the most by listening to what she had to say.

The conversation between Mehjabeen & Khalil was so intense because it brought out the weak side of Khalil once again the moment he heard that Mehjabeen found out the truth behind her sister’s death. It was interesting to see that at first, Khalil tried to cover up saying that his wife died because she was bound to die that day & it was Allah’s Decree, but later when he saw that Mehjabeen wasn’t buying what he said & still held him responsible, he tried to malign his wife’s character & badmouthed her thinking it will work. Khalil knew that the family secret wasn’t safe anymore & despite saying that he wasn’t afraid of the police, he showed all the signs that suggested that even he was scared of facing the brunt for what he has done. It was also interesting that even after committing such a huge crime & a sin, he was still relying on his limited knowledge of the religion to clear his image. Khalil believed that he hit his wife because he was trying to correct & discipline her, so if she died while that was happening, it wasn’t his fault!

Obviously, Mehjabeen had to leave & she apologized to Zubiya for being so helpless & powerless to do anything to help her situation but she did leave after making Khalil realize that he will face the consequences. Khalil was rattled & it was only because of the conversation he had with Mehjabeen, otherwise the way he got back to his normal life where he was more concerned about parathas being khasta, if it wasn’t for her, he wouldn’t have paid attention to what he has done. I think Zubiya will be left alone now because seeing how Rehna was being manipulated by Sheema showed that he won’t be able to do much. Rehan only has emotions to offer but Sheema was the one who showed him the practical side of the picture. Even though what Sheema said showcased her selfishness but somehow I didn’t find her wrong because before anything else, she is a mother who only wants comfort for her child & just because she is practical enough, she is well aware of the fact that her husband is financially dependent on her father in law. I think in the later stages when Zubiya will probably take the matter in her hands if she will ever decided to get her father punished, Rehan will be the first obstacle that will come in her way because he almost seemed convinced to stay quiet after getting a lecture from his wife!

So, we got to know a little more about Faryal & looks like Asfand was taken aback by her behavior. Faryal is not only spoiled but is quite impulsive & immature, which obviously put Asfand off a little when he saw this side of her nature. I think after this incident, Asfand will be forced to do some thinking. Daniyal & Gaiti were enjoying their marital bliss which has started off on a very positive note. It was nice to see Gaiti being so understanding of her husband’s nature of work & more than that, the respect that she has for what Daniyal does. Usman got a little introduction too & it was explained how well-reputed he was in the field of law. I am interested to see what role Usman & then Daniyal will play as lawyers in the future episodes!

Even though Noori didn’t get much coverage but the preview of the next episode suggested that she is not going to sit quietly & she will make sure to see her offender paying for his crime. Just like Rehan will try to stop Zubiya, in this case, it will be Noori’s parents who will tell her to stay silent. Even though Noori’s father was shocked to learn the truth but I am interested to see what role he will play in helping his daughter recover from the mental trauma that she has been through. I really hope out of all the people, Noori’s father supports her because she’ll be needing him the most at this stage. I believe Noori will emerge as a fighter & she will fight her own battle against those who offended her in the worst way possible.

Overall, this episode was power-packed & was directed brilliantly. I must say, for me the actors that took the crown in this episode were Ehtashamuddin, Huma Nawab & Sajal Ali. Oh boy! I was spellbound while watching their performances. It takes a lot to portray such characters & elaborate their emotions in such a phenomenal & convincing manner & all these actors definitely delivered. Ehtashamuddin has owned the character of Khalil & has given him such a face that he will be remembered for a long long time. Just 2 episodes in & I am sure all the viewers who have tuned to this drama will be feeling a lot of hatred for Khalil’s character, which is Ehtashamuddin’s success as an actor. Huma Nawab supported extremely well too, like she made it so evident that Mehjabeen’s heart was breaking after learning the truth about her sister but she also knew her limitations & despite wanting to, she knew she was helpless & she won’t be able to do much. Sajal Ali really has polished her skills when it comes to such portrayals, like she really knows how to convey the emotions. She made it so realistic that Zubiya was not only shattered or guilty, but she was scared to see her father being the one who killed her mother. This episode was like a roller-coaster ride of emotions & once again Usman’s family & all those characters were used to make things less heavy & less intense, which was a good change. I can’t wait to see more. Please share your thoughts about this phenomenal episode of Yakeen Ka Safar!

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 01 Review – Insightful Beginning!

Ohkay so, based on the novel with the same title Alif Allah Aur Insaan, the script of the drama is written by Qasira Hayat, it is directed by Ahson Talish & is produced by Momina Duraid Productions. Alif Allah Aur Insaan commenced tonight & will be airing at 8PM every Tuesday on Hum TV. The very first episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan introduced us to 5 families with completely different backgrounds, with extremely different situations, lifestyles & struggles of their own. The first episode was directed perfectly & it surely set the ground for the viewers to look forward to what is yet to come.

The story of Alif Allah Aur Insaan is set in Rural Punjab, with almost all the characters linked to each other. The very first family that got introduced was of Raani (Ushna Shah), who has a father (Safie Hassan), a mother (Nargis Rashid) & a brother. Raani’s family lives in a dire condition & the only means of earning money for them is begging. Despite not wanting to Raani is pushed by her father to go & make some money because that’s the only way he is able to fend for their basic needs.

Another character that got a detailed introduction was of Shammo (Imran Ashraf), a eunuch who is tired of the life that has been prescribed for him. His master Nargis actually brought him as a male in the house when he was just an infant thinking that he will become her support system but sadly, Shammo ended up following Nargis’ lifestyle & adapted everything that he saw happening in his surroundings. However, Shammo feels burdened because he fails to accept that this is the only option that is left for him to lead a life, which actually was something nice to see. The person who helped him restore this faith in himself was Raani, who was probably the first & the last person who treated him as a human being. Shammo’s one-sided short-lived love for Raani was quite sweet, because he immediately mistook Raani’s sympathy & courtesy as something else & assumed that she will reciprocate his feelings, which actually didn’t happen!

The third family that got an introduction was of Malik Sahab (Usman Peerzada), his wife (Aini Zaidi) & his two daughters Yasmin & Nazneen (Kubra Khan). Yasmin is getting married & the entire family is busy arranging this family affair. Yasmin is getting married to Suhail, who happens to be a friend of Shahzeb (Mikaal Zulfikar). Shahzeb’s mother believes that he should get married as well, but Shahzeb tells her that he hasn’t found his ideal partner yet. The last family that got a little coverage was of Qadir Ali (Noor Ul Hassan) who basically manages household affairs of Malik Sahab’s family. Qadir Ali is very loyal & sincere to Malik Sahab, that is why without even being asked for such a any such favor, Qadir tells his son Basit (Shehzad sheikh), who is an art student studying in the city, to come to the village & take part in the arrangements of Yasmin’s wedding.

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 01 Review - Insightful Beginning!

So, this episode had a lot of meaningful, deep, interesting & heart-warming conversations which helped us in understanding the characters better. The first such conversation that actually set the base for what the writer was going to show through this story was the lecture that the teacher was giving to his students, where he spoke about the difference between Allah & Insaan (human beings). In very easy words & by coming to the level of his students, he explained how Allah was Different, how He was Complete, how He was Perfect & how He was Infallible, whereas when it comes to Insaan, us human beings, everyone is a slave to their emotions & these emotions force us to commit mistakes & sins. Even though this entire conversation was covered in the form of the lecture, but it definitely highlighted the theme of this drama in a very effortless manner.

I must say, I enjoyed quite a lot of characters in the first episode but the one character that actually left a mark was of Raani. Raani is pretty straight forward, she is also least judgmental but she knows her rights & wrongs. Even though if we consider the background that she hails from, it makes her character quite unique that she has a very different perspective when it comes to life & people in general, that is why she not only protected Shammo, but treated him as an equal, despite being completely aware of her & his differences. Raani knows what is right & what is wrong, that is why just after getting comfortable with Shammo, she honestly told her that what Shammo was doing to make a living for himself wasn’t right, but she also knows that being helpless can push you to certain boundaries that you might not deem suitable for yourself!

Nazneen, like her name suggests, is a pampered child who hails from a financially stable background, therefore just because her parents have raised her with such comforts, she is oblivious of the intricacies of life. Nazneen came across as someone who has a tunnel vision & believes in seeing things through her perspective which isn’t based on much exposure. At this stage, one thing that can be assumed about her is that she is a spoiled youngest daughter of the family, that is why she believes in having things her way, be it her jewelry or the sort of entertainment she wants at her sister’s wedding. Nazneen’s interaction with Shammo & her fellows shattered them all because she not only insulted them but reminded them of their shortcomings. It took just a few seconds for Nazneen to degrade them & treat them as sub-humans because she believed they couldn’t match her level as she was complete & they weren’t. Obviously, Shammo left quietly but her curse won’t leave Nazneen alone & she will end up facing the brunt of what she said. Nazneen has a lot to discover & she will learn such lessons in life which will teach her that every single human being is equal, irrespective of what they have & what they don’t! So, Shahzeb grew interested in Nazneen because he found her unique & that was the only introduction that Shahzeb had so far. Yes, he shares a very special bond with the Molvi Sahab (Qavi Khan) & I am sure their relationship will have a lot to offer in the episodes to come.

The way Nazneen hurt Shammo’s pride will definitely shape up his life. Shammo was looking for a reason to escape the life that he was living, but he always found himself bound because of Nargis, who emotionally weakened & blackmailed him, but the way Nazneen insulted Shammo, that was the final nail in the coffin & it pushed him to walk away & pursue his dreams. Shammo dreams of having a life where people will treat him with respect & he also dreams of making money after doing a lot of hard-work. It was good to see a person living in such grave situations aiming for such standards in life, it showed that all you need is a perspective & a go-getter attitude because by the end of the day, that’s all that matters. What made Shammo stand out from her colleagues was his attitude because where they all sounded defeated, where they all gave up & where all of them accepted this mistreatment as their fate, Shammo chose to stand up for himself & say no to this life.

Overall, the first episode was quite interesting & it seemed like such a long episode with such in-depth scenarios that introduced the characters a great deal. At first I found the characters a little caricaturish but as the episode progressed, the mood was set & it made everything work. All the actors stood out & brought out their A-game to breathe life into their characters. Imran Asraf & Ushna Shah deserve a special mention because of their effortless & flawless performances. The OST sounds interesting too, I am glad they didn’t overuse it & it was just played in the initial scenes which was enough to introduce us to the idea behind this story & the vision of the writer. The meaningful dialogues definitely elevated the level of this episode. I must say, spot on direction made this episode perfect, the usage of different locations, the choice of the sets & the right aesthetics gave this drama a very unique feel. The preview got me excited because looks like there’s a new character that is going to be introduced. Even though Shehzad sheikh & Mikaal Zulfikar got limited coverage but I felt Shehzad sheikh stood out more as Basit Ali. Kubra Khan seemed to be in her element & without overdoing Nazneen’s character she gave her the personality that her character required. I am quite pleased with the first episode & I can’t wait to see more. Please share your thoughts about the first episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

PS: The reviews of Alif Allah Aur Insaan also have the no spoiler alert policy, so please respect that, thanks!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,

Muqabil Episode 21 Review – More Complications

This episode just like the previous few had quite a few scenes which were stretched unnecessarily but it also had a few nice surprises in store. Arman’s character has taken a turn which is disappointing to say the least and I did not enjoy watching Mahmood plead Pareesa’s case. If the writer is trying to show that he can “redeem” himself by saving Pareesa’s marriage then it is absolutely wrong. Mahmood’s wife and daughter should know what he did and so should Pareesa’s mother. He should not be forgiven in the end. Pareesa’s mother in particular needs to know that the person she trusted with her daughter blindly for the longest time is actually a vulture.

The good thing about this episode was watching Zubeida play a positive role for a change. The best aspect of this drama so far is Pareesa’s character; the way it has been etched-out and the manner in which it is changing with every episode. Her dialogues are written in such a way that you feel an instant connection with her. You know exactly how she felt before she got to know Arman and how her feelings/state of mind changed after she got married to him. My favorite part of tonight’s episode had to be the conversation Pareesa had with Arman. She explained how her mother and Arman’s father destroyed her faith in people and the role Arman played in restoring her faith in relationships. Even with all her fears and inability to cope with some situations, Pareesa has ultimately turned out to be the strongest and also the most intelligent character in this play. Arman on the other hand cannot handle the truth, another visit to the psychiatrist would have helped at this point instead of adding a track which is forced. Instead of bringing Sara back in the picture, it would have been so much better if Pareesa asked her psychiatrist to help her out. I am having a very difficult time feeling for Arman although I understand his situation. Someone like him shouldn’t have relied on a woman to bail him out of this situation. Also, he is a victim too, his father is the real culprit and the viewers would have enjoyed it more if he was shown suffering instead of Arman.

Muqabil Episode 21 Review - More Complications

In this episode a lot of screen time was given to Arman’s decision to leave Pareesa. Watching Zubeida stand by Pareesa and asking Pareesa to fight for her man was a refreshing change. Mohsin Abbas Haider’s acting was flawless, like always, but these latest developments have turned out to be an unpleasant surprise. Pareesa and Arman’s scenes are still as intense as they always were, the acting and direction is brilliant but right now Pareesa is the hero and not Arman. At this point things should have been getting easier for Pareesa and not more complicated. I am waiting for the showdown and hoping that those characters who deserve to suffer in the end would be the ones who will be punished. Right now it seems highly unlikely that Pareesa and Arman’s track will have a happy ending.

Muqabil needs to pick up pace and deliver soon! Stretching all the tracks unnecessarily at a time when the drama should be concluding is unfair to the viewers who fell in love with this show.

Mahira Khan: Am I Really A Celebrity?

The highest paid actress in Pakistan, Mahira Khan is on a roll these days. The lady is riding high on the success of her Bollywood debut Raees and is the most talked celebrity on both sides of the border.

In one of her earlier interview, Mahira revealed that she went into MTV for an internship with her fiance (now ex-husband) and landed a gig as a VJ!

I came in with my fiance who works at MTV to do an internship and one of the VJs left when I joined, so my boss said “You can do it” and then there was no looking back.

“It was a complete accident but I had always harboured a dream to become a movie star.”

And the rest is history, she rose to fame with her performance in Humsafar and became a star overnight.

“Am I really a celebrity? Really I don’t feel like one (maybe because I am a complete social moron).”

Mahira Khan shared the interview on twitter:

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

It takes a lot of factors for an actor to leave a mark and make a name for themselves in the drama industry where there is a lot of cutthroat competition. The show-business demands every single actor to up their game if they want to survive and want to touch the stardom they dream of. An actor is under a lot of pressure, both from the industry and the audience for whom they work, that is why it is extremely important for an actor to do well to attract the viewership and bring something new to the table every single time. Where a few actors do well in that regard, there are a lot such actors who fail to deliver what is expected from them. It then comes down to the actor’s personal choice as to which direction do they want to steer their career to – if they want to experiment and offer variety to the audience or want to stick to their comfort zones by getting typecast for the roles they deem easy.

Where last week we covered those actors who could sell the drama with their names, this week, we are covering those actors who despite being talented, despite being a part of the industry for a decent amount of time and despite getting a lot of opportunities, couldn’t up their game in such a way where they could sell a drama with their names solely. Make no mistake, all the actors mentioned in this list are subjectively talented and good looking individuals but when it comes to their job as an actor, they haven’t really been able to bring themselves to such a point where the audience would be excited enough to look forward to their work.

So, let’s take a look at the actors who cannot sell the drama with their names:

Aisha Khan

There was a time when the viewers used to look forward to Aisha Khan’s projects and the producers openly claimed that her tears guaranteed TRPs. Nowadays when Pakistani viewers look for strong female leads and appreciate actresses who are willing to go the extra mile to make their characters more appealing, Aisha Khan’s unnecessary make-up, performances which are more or less monotonous and focus on quantity instead of quality are few reasons why Aisha Khan is no longer the kind of actress who can sell a drama anymore all on her own. The fact is that most people would like to see Aisha Khan taking a break from dramas.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Mawra Hocane

Mawra Hocane is one of those actresses who have been typecast the most. She has played the bechari in innumerable plays and she herself says that crying is her USP. She has never taken up a challenging role therefore the viewers know that she won’t have a surprise in store for them. Most of the times her dramas went unnoticed and even now when she made a comeback after taking a break from television, she wasn’t the reason why viewers tuned into Sammi.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Syra Yousuf

Syra Yousuf did really well in the beginning of her career because she played roles which proved her versatility but later on she played the lead in many dramas which turned out to be major disappointments. Dramas like Darmiyan, Rubaru and recently Rishta Hai Jaise Khawab Sa send all the wrong signals; it was almost as if Syra Yousuf was working in every project offered to her without considering how it could effect her career in a bad manner. Syra Yousuf’s name no longer excites the viewers the way it used to once.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Danish Taimoor

Danish Taimoor is another actor who is actually quite gifted but anyone who has been following Pakistani dramas would know that Danish Taimoor has given very few memorable performances in his career. Due to this reason, Danish Taimoor hasn’t been able to win the reputation of an actor who can sell a drama serial all on his own. He is still looking for a definite identity in the field of entertainment even after all these years which is probably why he does not have that magnetic appeal which pulls the viewers towards him.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Armeena Rana Khan

Although Armeena Rana Khan is not seen on television very often but even then her name doesn’t guarantee that the viewers will watch her dramas only because of her. The reason for this is that Armeena Rana Khan has limited acting skills because of which she does not bring the X factor with her when she is part of a project. She barely manages to deliver therefore her performances are almost always unimpressive. Armeena Rana also concentrates more on her looks than her performance which is also off putting. The only exception in her entire career was her performance in drama serial Mohabbat Ab Nahi Ho Gi.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Adnan Siddique

Despite being such an experienced actor, Adnan Siddique fails to accept that gone are the days when he could pull off a main lead character in any drama. After being a part of the drama industry for such a long time and after being well aware of the ins and outs of the industry, it was expected of Adnan Siddique to make wise choices and offer variety to the drama viewers, but looks like Adnan is afraid of experimenting be it in terms of his looks or roles, therefore, he conveniently chooses to play such characters where either he has failed as a husband or he has been wronged by his wife. Adnan Siddique has nothing new to offer and he chooses to stick to his comfort zone, which is playing the role of a lethargic husband to perfection, which actually makes the viewers run away from his dramas.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Sarwat Gillani

Sarwat Gillani used to excite the viewers because everyone knew that she was one such actress who wasn’t afraid of experimenting and always brought something new to the table but looks like Sarwat has taken her stardom and her talent for granted, that is why it has been such a long time that Sarwat gave us an unforgettable performance in a memorable drama. Almost all of Sarwat’s recent projects have gone unnoticed because she was seen playing the damsel in distress, which was so not expected of her. We still remember how Sarwat made us fall in love with her character Mahi in Malal, like we know that is what she is capable of but, not sure what has happened to her choices.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Sami Khan

Sami Khan has been in the industry for such a long time but not sure if the luck was not on his side or he never made wise choices because in a considerable span of his career, he has hardly given any such performance that can be remembered. Looks like when Ahsan Khan made the transition and started exploring the actor in him, he crowned his colleague Sami Khan with the title of ‘Naqaam Ashiq’ that Ahsan Khan held onto for a long long time, that is why in almost every other drama now, Sami Khan is seen portraying that role with utmost dedication. When it comes to a Sami Khan drama, it is a known fact that it is going to be a love story going around in circles, without anything new in it, therefore it seems like a great idea to skip his dramas because of his track record, Sami Khan surely cannot sell the drama with his name.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Hira Mani

We totally believe that Hira Mani is a strong actress and she has proved her mettle in the drama Preet Na Kariyo Koi, but sadly, due to her talk shows and appearances on morning shows, Hira has left such a bad impression on the viewers that they find it hard to give her a chance as her personality still haunts them. The viewers tend to not tune to her dramas as they can not differentiate between Hira the actor and Hira the celebrity. Even though Hira Mani is a great addition to the industry but sadly, the damage has been done and viewers don’t want to give those dramas a chance that she is a part of.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Agha Ali

Agha Ali has made himself a staple in the supporting cast lot of the Pakistani drama industry. Despite trying so hard and despite getting a lot of chances, Agha Ali couldn’t sell the drama solely, that is why he is seen playing the supporting role or is paired with an actress who has a better reputation (read fanbase) than him. Even though Agha Ali has appeared in quite a few dramas as the protagonist but those dramas were the ones that either aired at 7, 9 or 10PM. Agha Ali has remained unsuccessful in doing well in the 8PM slot, which actually is the prime time of glory for the Pakistani Drama buffs. Also, even if Agha by mistake appeared in a prime time drama, sadly, he just didn’t have it in him to attract the audience.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Urwa Hocane

Even though Urwa has garnered a lot of appreciation for her role in Udaari, but if we think rationally, Udaari was basically a joint effort and Urwa wasn’t the selling point of that drama in the first place. Quite a lot of viewers in fact were hesitant to tune to Udaari because of her but fortunately, Ahsan Khan, Samiya Mumtaz and Bushra Ansari roped them in. Before Udaari, Urwa did work in quite a few dramas but failed to leave a mark because just like her baby sister, even she believed in crying buckets to melt the hearts of the viewers, which eventually ended up being something that ticked the viewers off. Urwa might be doing well for herself but to be honest, she won’t be able to sell the drama as a protagonist as she lacks the charm and attraction that the lead actress should have. In Marasim, Urwa performed phenomenally but then again, she wasn’t the main character in that drama.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Shehzad sheikh

Shehzad sheikh‘s acting skills have improved a lot lately so much so that those people who never used to tune into his dramas have been appreciating his performance in drama serial Choti Si Zindagi and Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai. Although he has improved tremendously but his career is crowded with below average performances because of which the viewers usually choose to skip a drama in which he is playing the leading role or if there aren’t other popular celebrities to give the viewers incentive to tune into a particular project which he is a part of.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Shaista Lodhi

Shaista Lodhi made her debut in dramas with Waada. Unlike Hira Mani who impressed the viewers with her solid performance in her debut drama, Shaista Lodhi failed to impress the viewers. Shaista Lodhi did not succeed in giving the right expressions because of all the plastic surgeries she got done in the past few years. The close-ups were terrible and her performance overall was not impressive at all. She is going to be one of those actresses who are the reason why people actually skip dramas!

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Sana Javed

Sana Javed has a cute face and her acting is alright too but in her entire career she has not given even one performance which could pass as memorable or unforgettable. Sana Javed is always seen in mediocre dramas and her characters most often are more or less the same. Even when she was part of big projects with popular stars, she failed to get herself recognized the way many other actors do with their remarkable performances.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

Shahroz Sabzwari

There are some actors who bring out the best in the roles assigned to them and then there are those who don’t have the screen presence or the ability to make their work stand out. Shahroz Sabzwari is one of those actors who usually gets overshadowed by his fellow actors because he has never given a performance which completely bowls you over. His character in Mana Ka Gharana was likeable but even then he did not make the most of it. Shahroz’s acting style is not versatile, he usually works more on his overall look than his performances. Although he has been part of many dramas but he isn’t the kind of actor who will give you a reason to watch his drama solely because of him.

Actors That Cannot Sell The Drama With Their Names

So, with this, we conclude the list of those actors who cannot sell the dramas with their names in our opinion. Please feel free to add your say too and talk about those actors who make you skip their dramas.
