Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

0

Pakistani entertainment industry has come a long way; be it films or dramas with the influx of many artists. We have a lot of stars now who even have international influence which is a good sign for the industry’s progress. But there are many actors who despite of having a lot of talent are quite underrated as they not get projects and appreciation they deserve. Take a look at the list of some underrated stars of our industry:

Sajal Aly:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

Sajal has got beauty, style, glamour, the sense to carry herself and the most important TALENT. Sajal has been around for sometime now and she has impressed us countless times. Who can forget her performance in Nanhi which made people cry for her. Her performance in behadd was remarkable too where she played a 13 year possessive girl to perfection. Even the brat she played in Mohabbat Jaaye Bhaar Main was remarkable. These are just few mentions but Sajal never got that super-star treatment which her contemporaries Mahira and Mehwish does though she is equally talented and is also among the highest paid stars but yes she deserves more appreciation.

Imran Ashraf:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

This guy screams talent. He has always managed to get into the skin of every character he played. The sweet Dastageer from Dillagi was a sight to see. To be honest it was more fun to watch his scenes as compared to Humayun Saeed’s. The bad brother he played in Abro made us hate him and that is how fine an actor he is and he has got us mesmerized by his performance in Alif Allah aur Insaan. But he is extremely underrated. What we want to see him in are some really awesome projects and him playing the lead beacuse the guy can do it.

Hina Dilpazeer:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

Hina is hands down one of the most talented artists our industry has. She knows perfection and how to portray it. Hina has been doing a lot of comedy shows and telefilms. I think every Pakistani knows Momo and how Hina has portrayed the silliness of that character is beyond words. But why just comedy? Why not drama and some extremely serious characters? Its high time writers and directors realize that it would be a waste for the industry not to cast Hina in unique roles because she is capable to do it.

Adeel Hussain:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

He is handsome and I don’t have to explain it just look at the picture above. The main is a total package and has nearly never failed to impress the audience. The hopeless romantic in Mata e Jaan Hai Tu or a conflicted husband in Mora Piya, he knows how to pull off each character. He even played a perfect Mama’s boy in Ho Mann Jahan. But despite of his substantial work in both films and television he is severely underrated. Many actors who are not even half as good as him get more appreciation than he does.

Uzma Hassan:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

Uzma is a stunner. She made me fall in love with her during Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahin. Recently Sange Marmar aired and people hated her character; that is the talent of the woman to dig deep into the emotions of her audience. She is also making her film debut this year opposite Shaan Shahid in Arth-the destination; finally having roles that match her talent. Yes Uzma has done a lot of substantial roles and its high time she should get the level of appreciation she deserves.

Imran Aslam:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

Imran is a very expressive actor. He has a seriousness to his personality and his work. He will blow out the minds of his audience with his acting whenever he will come on screen. His acting stint in Sanjha even got him a nomination for Hum Awards. But do we see him in many projects? No! While actors like Yasir Hussain (no offence to him) are playing leads in movies Imran is not even seen as a lead for good projects. Why? No answer to that I guess.

Sonya Hussyn:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

Sonya is beautiful and glamourous. She has proved her mettle in different projects. Her role in Shikwa and Mere Humrahi were treat to watch. She made her film debut with Moor and even got a best actress nomination at ARY Film Awards but her career has not gotten the flight it must have taken. She surely deserves a spot on this list right now and I wish she gets off it soon.

Sami Khan:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

Sami Khan is around for years and has many good projects to his credit but he is not in the position as his other contemporaries are like Ahsan Khan and Mikal Zulfiqar. His role in Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua does look very different and maybe the directors will see his potential to do different kinds of roles rather than making him play love-struck bechara all the time.

Jinaan Hussain:

Underrated Actors Of The Industry!

Jinaan knows the craft of acting. She has played the roles from friend to the lead as well as vamp with perfection in different projects. She is around for sometime now but she never gets the lead roles although she is gorgeous and talented. She can make you hate her when she is playing a negative character like in Bashar Momin and can annoy the hell out of you like her role in Gul e Rana. She must be casted for some strong and leading characters as the girl is capable to do it.

This concludes my list for underrated actors. Who else do you think should be added in the list? Share your thoughts!

Yaar e Bewafa Episode 03 Review – Realistic Portrayal of Reality!

Ohkay so, I am glad that everything that they have shown till this point in this drama is based on reality & they really haven’t relied on dramatic situations to take the story forward. Since day 1, this is what I have liked the most about Yaar e Bewafa that everything has been executed in such a simple & real manner that you end up relating to the struggles that are being shown in the lives of all the characters & this episode was no different.

I am sure where all the viewers, including me were thinking that the immigration agent will deceive Zaid, I was pleasantly surprised that he delivered the bad news but with proper justification for it because it actually shed a light on one of the realities that people who apply from the 3rd world countries end up dealing with such consequences too in the name of security. I liked the fact that they didn’t make things over-dramatic & kept them rather simple by showing that Rashid was actually feeling bad for Zaid & Fizza because he knew how eager they both were to move & settle in Australia!

Amna’s life is taken by storm & the fact that her husband is not co-operating is making things more difficult. Yes, I do understand that Saleem’s ego doesn’t allow him to be weak in front of Amna as he doesn’t want to burden her with more tensions but his snappy attitude doesn’t help either & that makes me not feel for him as much as I should. I feel for Amna a lot because by the end of the day, she’s the one left to do the heavy-lifting because Saleem easily puts everything on her & expects her to deal with it without complaining. Amna’s meeting with Saleem’s supervisor gave her the scary glimpse of what life will be like if she’ll be left alone because the world is filled with vultures of such sort who see women as a commodity & this was the first experience that Amna had where she got to see how people will try to exploit her when she’ll be vulnerable & weak. Amna failed to get Saleem’s pay because the manager was onto to something else but still she didn’t give up because irrespective of how Saleem treats her, he still is her husband & she wants to do everything to save him. It is good that she has Khala by her side, at least there’s someone who listens to her & feels her pain because in such tough circumstances, you definitely need someone’s support!

Fizza obviously made a huge deal out of the visa rejection, as if everything that happened was Zaid’s fault & he deliberately got his visa rejected. Yes, it is good that Fizza wants what’s best for her family but to see her being stuck on one thing really makes you question her at times. It was good that Rashid came up with a different option for Fizza & told her that she was eligible to apply for the PR. Obviously, Fizza deemed it as a good opportunity because at this stage, if there’s one thing that matters to her the most, it is the immigration!

Zaid was again feeling a lot of pressures & sadly, in stead of calming him down & telling him that everything was going to be alright, Fizza continued to burden him even more. It isn’t like Zaid on his own isn’t doing anything because if that would’ve been the case, Fizza’s frustration & agitation would’ve made sense but seeing how hard Zaid is trying, to see Fizza treating him as a failure actually sheds a light on how they both will drift apart in the future. Zaid was obviously finding it hard to settle for a smaller position that his boss offered because his ego wasn’t allowing him but fortunately, his friend ended up putting things into perspective & told him that he won’t be able to cope up with the financial pressures if he wouldn’t avail this opportunity so Zaid obviously got convinced & settled for it. I think this was the first time we saw a difference in Zaid & Fizza’s perspectives where she was excited to apply on her own & Zaid wasn’t thrilled with the idea. Till this moment we saw how both of them were on the same page & were working hard & most importantly together as a team to achieve their goals but looks like Zaid isn’t much into the idea now as he has so many other issues to deal with but Fizza is still adamant to make the most of the opportunity that life has presented to her while completely ignoring what Zaid wants at this stage. Will this be their undoing? We’ll see!

Overall, I enjoyed watching this episode. Even though the pace was comparatively slow but I liked how detailed everything was & how the director shed a light on everything. Even though they have shown daily struggles of regular people, but still in the middle of it all, the way their emotions come through & are elaborated is amazing & because of that I feel I can relate to all these characters. So far everyone; Imran Abbas, Sara Khan, Saleem Mairaj & Arij Fatima have done a commendable job. Samina Ahmed adds warmth in her scenes too like she completes the picture exactly how the elderlies of the families do. I am definitely liking this drama & can’t wait to see what more they have in store for us. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yaar e Bewafa.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai Episode 14 Review – Feminism Gone Wrong

This episode of Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai failed to make a mark. The story is paused and there is nothing significant about the characters they we got to know, except maybe Amber.

In Naheed’s household, things are the same. The girls are climbing up the ladder of success. While Iqra and Anum are quite good human beings, the most competitive of them all, Amber is turning out to be quite an unlikeable personality. Iqra is a homebody but Anum is a medical student and while being grounded and practical, is respectful to other people. Mehwish Qureshi and Mariam Ansari are settling well into the roles and their actings are also improving with every episode.

Saboor Ali, however, is another story. Her character Amber is quite over the top and her acting is making it even more so. She is a prime example of when people never snub their kids in order to make them confident, but it backfires and those kids then become narcissists. Maybe the writer is showing her to be feminist but there is a difference between being obnoxious and being feminist. No man or woman should treat other human beings like trash, no matter what the gender. The way she insulted and threw the old man out of her office goes to show that Naheed has lagged behind in the ethical sense of upbringing. Amber should have had the sense to know that just because her father did not prove to be a good father, she cannot punish other people for it. Her behaviour in front of the ladies that came to see Iqra was also unnecessarily rude and defensive. I agree with her point that everything should be straight forward and crystal clear before marriage proposals, but this amount of rudeness was simply not needed. For once, I felt for Shehzad and found Naheed to be obstinate in defending her daughters even when they were clearly in the wrong. If mothers don’t teach their kids of either gender to be respectful to elders, who else is going to do that?

In Sadiq’s household, he deservedly is not getting any moral or financial support from his step sons which he wrongly assumed comes with having male offsprings. Anila’a cunningness has now created two monsters who refuse to pay any heed to what Sadiq or even Anila expects out of them.

Stay tuned to see if the next episode is able to move the story forward ..

Yasir Hussain & Ahsan Khan Have Something To Say About Aunty Gormint

Yasir Hussain & Ahsan Khan Have Something To Say About Aunty Gormint

Who doesn’t know Aunty Gormint? She became an international meme, making her way to news even in CNN and BBC, when her barrage of abusive words against the government got viral on internet. Since then, there is no meme or video where we cannot see the edited version of her. But, recently, a shocking revelation has shunned us all.

In a recent interview with Samaa News, the sons of notorious Aunty Gormint said that she has been secluded by the entire family. He further revealed that looking out for rishtas of their daughters has become a strenuous task, as nobody wants to marry in their family. We all know that it isn’t justified with the lady, as she was uneducated and had no idea that her slang could go so easily viral. Or, this cheap publicity could lead problems to her family.

Now, slowly, actors have started to raise their voice for the helpless lady. In an interview with the entertainment website, Yasir Hussain of Karachi Sey Lahore fame said:

“Aunty Gormint had the nerve to say what people couldn’t say for so many years. The lady narrated the political scenario as it ought to be done. For me, she’s a favorite and an eye opener for this society. Instead of isolating her, the family should be proud of this lady because she was honest enough to hurl abuses at this government that deserves to be abused. Whatever she has done is hundred percent correct and there’s absolutely no reason to put this old lady into a socially awkward position.”

Saying somewhat similarly, Ahsan Khan being the concerned man also took the sides with the poor lady and said:

“I feel somebody who doesn’t get access to even the basic necessities, will definitely lash out. The lady was super sick of whatever was happening around her because nobody ever tried to make amends in the society. The video went viral and she was taken as a laughing stock. Had there been changes in her society after her video went viral, she would have been celebrated as a hero but because nobody did anything other than laugh, the lady is now in such awkward situation and extreme psychological pressure as I can assume. Such are the pathetic double standards of our society.”

All we can do is hope that the same social media which ruined her life can somehow ease the pain or dim it.

Shehroz Sabzwari Thinks Chain Aye Na’s Trailer Doesn’t Do Justice

Syed Noor’s upcoming movie Chain Aye Na has received an extremely bad response from the general public. The scenes, the teaser, the promos and all have build up a very sultry image, due to which lead actors have to face the brunt of masses.

Shehroz Sabzwari Thinks Chain Aye Na's Trailer Doesn't Do Justice

Miss Pakistan USA Sarish Khan and Shehroz Sabzwari will be making their cinematic debut with the movie. Both the actors are excited for the movie and think that it is totally different from what people perceive it to be. While talking to a local publication house about his upcoming movie, Sabzwari said that he completely supports his film and did nothing wrong.

“My response to all the criticism was whatever I said, I stand by that. I feel criticism is always healthy, we take it, we accept it. All I was trying to get at was that you can say a certain trailer is “bad” or ”ugly looking” or whatever but you can’t say “don’t go and watch the film“, that’s not healthy journalism and I stand by that.

“Also, I would like to remind everyone that trailers are just a one-minute thing compared to a three-hour film, so let’s see how the film is. When we watched the movie, time just flew by. The movies that had good trailers didn’t exactly turn out to be good movies so let’s not be disheartened. I watched Balu Mahi’s trailer and I was blown away, I thought it looked like a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film which is great for our industry but then I saw the movie and I thought they could’ve told the story in a better manner. I have complete faith in Chain Aye Na.”

“I get that people have high expectations from me but I promise I won’t just do an aiwein film. I own what I’ve made. Those people who are waiting for a Syed Noor film and Shahroz Sabzwari film, it’s going to be a treat for them Insha Allah.”

Talking about the genre and the story that the film has been set in, he further clarified:

“It’s set in 2017, the tone of the movie is new, it’s very much a modern day love story. I understand the trailer has people perplexed but honestly, it didn’t do justice to the movie we’ve made. We realized that, we reworked and lifted the trailer a bit and it has more than 500,000 views on YouTube now. It’s a fresh, romantic film and you won’t know what’s going to happen till the very end, it’s going to keep you hooked.”

Shehroz Sabzwari has high expectations with the movie, but we can’t say the same. No matter how much he clarifies and justifies, we still feel that the movie has a vulgar look to it. Well, we will have to wait and see how it turns out to be.

Fawad Khan’s Comeback Song’s Teaser Featuring Atif Aslam Is OUT

Fawad Khan has become an international icon. No matter where he goes, publicity and cameras follow. The one thing that we all had been impatiently waiting for, since a long time, was his comeback in the music industry. And, now is the time for Khan’s magnanimous music return.

He has teased us with his upcoming song, and we can’t control the excitement. Fawad Khan will be coming back to the microphone with Pepsi’s Battle of Bands, which he is expected to judge too with Meesha Shaafi. Is Atif the part of judging panel or not, that we don’t know.

The first official teaser that has just been released shows a bunch of young musicians alongside Meesha Shafi emerging from a dimly lit street. Soon after, Atif Aslam walks past as a sports car screeches and comes to a halt. And, with all the glory, there comes Fawad Khan out of the car with the look one can never forget.

Whatever the song is and whatever genre is it, we can’t wait to see our favourite Khan smashing the music once again.

Release of a New National Song on Pakistan’s 70th Independance Day!

It isn’t necessary to live in your homeland to have a patriotic spirit or to show your patriotism. On the 70th Independence Day of our homeland, Pakistani Sufi Opera star Saira Peter is preparing to release a new National song (Milli Naghma).

Saira recorded the song earlier this summer but as it was done for 14th August, she will be waiting for that date to finally release it to the world. Drawing on her extensive Western classical training, she has gradually enhanced the melody, introduced harmony and built up the instrumentation in ‘Aye Sar Zameen’.

She completed the early versions of this national song with the help of seasoned recording engineer Andy Rugg (whose clients include Beyonce, Radiohead et al). All of this was done at London’s Soup Studios.

Later, the takes were engineered by Dan Blackett, but she called in lead engineer Giles Barrett for final mixing and mastering on Soup’s vintage 1980’s Soundtracs CM4400 console.

To say we are excited about this milli naghma will be an understatement. Nothing beats a milli naghma that makes you sing along as well as raise your patriotic spirit. And on this 70th anniversary of Pakistan, we all are looking forward to something like this. Best of luck to Saira and her song!

Urwa Hocane Ready To Storm Cinemas With Four Film Releases Later This Year

0

The second half of this year in Pakistani cinema belongs to Urwa Hocane. A verstaile actress, who made her debut on big screen with the highly acclaimed movie ‘Na Maloom Afraad’ has got four cinematic releases in the later months of this year. Four subsequent movies with four different characters must be a challenging task for an actor, which Urwa has bravely accepted and she is all set to charm the audience with it. Let’s take a journey in to Urwa’s roles in her forthcoming releases and try to figure out what she has got in her sack of talent to offer us.

Na Maloom Afraad 2

Urwa Hocane Ready To Storm Cinemas With Four Film Releases Later This Year

Urwa will be seen once again with the previous cast of her debut movie ‘Na maloom afraad’ in its sequel. Urwa was praised for her first cinematic appearance in ‘Na maloom afraad’. Her character named ‘Naina’, was a modest middle class girl and she proved herself by bringing all the simplicity and purity to the role. The subject of the movie was unique and intriguing, since it was about strikes and protests in the city of Karachi. But, this time the movie is shot in Cape Town and expected to be bigger and better since the director Nabeel Qureshi and producer Fizza Ali Meerza have worked even harder and have high hopes with the sequel named ‘Na Maloom Afraad 2’.

The storyline which we get from the trailer of the movie is that the characters of Mohsin Abbas Haider, Javed Sheikh and Fahad Mustafa are involved in a heist of a Sultan’s gold toilet. So, what Urwa is up to in the movie? Well this has not been revealed yet. “What the entire story revolves around is also quite funny and interesting. It has a bigger budget and has a better quality overall.”

The statement has already raised our hopes and thus we are optimistic for return of Urwa too.

She is in a character of a young and attractive Punjabi kuri named Durdana, who is in awe of Humayun Saeed’s brazen romantic moves.

Rangreza

Rangreza, Amir Mohammed’s musical directional debut is another upcoming movie of Urwa in which her character has a traditional feel as she belongs to a qawwali gharana. Urwa once talking to The Nations opened up about her character in the movie:

”Yes I have started shooting already, my name in the film is RESHMI. Reshmi is a kindhearted, soulful, beautiful girl. Her purity makes her rare; she is as pure as her name in the film.”

The teaser of the movie gives a glimpse of Urwa’s character in which she looks thoughtful and distraught. The perfect emotion on Reshmi’s face bears witness to the fact that Urwa has beautifully moulded herself in this character. Have a look on Reshmi’s click from the teaser below:

Urwa Hocane Ready To Storm Cinemas With Four Film Releases Later This YearUsman Malkani, the executive producer of the film is all praise for Urwa. During an interview he said,

“We as a team have done several advertorial projects, with Rangreza we have stepped into the mainstream cinema. Though we were previously shooting with a new face, giving her a silver screen break but unprofessional attitude which has caused a little nudge to our floor plans, but fate is with us and we have found Urwa as God’s gift. The entire team, crew & cast couldn’t be more excited as the chemistry builds up with a greater charisma on the sets of RANGREZA.”

According to some sources, Sana Javed, the lead actress of ‘Mehrunnisa V Lub U’ was previously opted for the female lead of Rangreza but the things didn’t work out well with her therefore she was replaced by Urwa.

Rangreza is yet another big project in Urwa’s career. The movie is a love triangle between the star cast Bilal Asfraf, Urwa and Gohar Rasheed. Bilal is from the modern pop rock world and Gohar is playing a role of a qawwal in the film. The music revolves around the fusion of classical qawwali and modern pop music, as acknowledged by the director, Amir Mohiuddin himself. The movie holds most promise within the genre of music and we will listen to some good melodies from Abida Parveen, Asrar, Qurram, Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad Qawwals under the musical direction of Akhtar Qayyum who is also the writer of the movie as well. Our cinemas have not witnessed anything yet like Rangreza and it has got much to contribute in Urwa’s career on big screen.

Lets catch Urwa in her behind the scene clicks from ‘Rangreza’.

The rom-com, previously titled Two+Two, is another movie of Urwa releasing this year in which you will see her in yet another character. She will be playing the role of a high profile businesswoman. Urwa will be in lead role alongside Ali Azmat. She was so convinced by the script and her character in the movie that she turned down a Bollywood offer, a biopic of Indian cricketer Azharuddin, for it. She once stated that her character in Jhol was a more fitting one for her which is one of the reasons why she decided to decline the Bollywood film.

Zakham Episode 13 Review – Anger Provoking

So the thirteenth episode of Zakham was all about Khawar and his mental illness and the sympathy card he played. The drama is not taking the story any forward. Rather, it is showing the same situation in different colours in each episode and their results are also eerily similar. Let’s take a look at the highlights of this episode.

Firstly, Takbeer’s father and brother were shown very concerned about her and really empathetic with all that she had suffered at Khawar’s hands.. With that realisation comes their decision that they will keep her in their house, away from Khawar and all the atrocities he subjects her to. Even Khawar’s over acting to show his yearning for Ahmed did nothing to weaken their resolve. They stood their ground and after much persuasion, let Khawar meet Ahmed. All this is a sign of impending freedom for Takbeer who just dared to start breathing deeper, away from Khawar and his suffocating behaviour which she had been bearing silently for quite sometime now.

Khawar runs to Khalida like a lost puppy and for the first time, she refuses to support him, but the way she did gave an insight into Khawar’s mental illness. Khalida’s advice was extremely twisted. Even though she was acknowledging that it was Khawar’s fault, she was still inciting him to take his son away from Takbeer, all the while telling him that he had been at fault and should try every trick to earn her forgiveness. If she had been raising him with this kind of narcissistic, double faced behaviour, no wonder he turned out the way he did. Later, she was lamenting to her husband, only worried that Khawar did not contact her again, with zero concern for all that must be going in his life at the moment.

Khawar’s failed suicide attempts were the most non sensical scenes I have ever come across. He again surprised with his uncanny ability to weave such intricate webs at the sane time when he is behaving as a psycho case. The missed bullet noise to blackmail Takbeer into coming was very well thought out and when she reached there, he was performing on the peak as a mentally challenged man, with spit flying out of his mouth and words spilling incoherently. How he is so cunning and disturbed at the same time is the biggest unsolved mystery of this drama.

Takbeer’s father and brother have again fell for his drama as usual, and forced Takbeer to go back home. It was so anger provoking when her father was shown so worried about him and that they should have consoled him more because he has taken Ahmed’s illness very seriously and has turned into a psycho due to one calamity falling in him after the other. It was extremely unfair of him to disregard all that Takbeer went through. From losing her only sister to ditching the love of her life for her family’s sake and being abused and suspected by a husband she never wanted to marry in the first place, being pregnant for the first time while already caring for the baby she has at home, if someone deserves sympathy, it is Takbeer. Yet Khawar gets all the sympathy after he unsuccessfully and half heartedly  attempts imaginary suicide.

Once again Takbeer’s fate has put her in his path. Her dad and brother, though disturbed seem to have sacrificed their daughter once again. Any sensible father would never have left her daughter with someone so voilently dangerous. Her brothers were somewhat reasonable in fearing that he might kill their sister, but her father wants to give Khawar another chance, even at a risk of her daughter’s chance to live. That was so utterly sad to see that a woman is used as a means to appease someone’s tantrums, and Takbeer herself was so silent, so shocked from the start of this suicide drama because she had resigned herself to her fate that Khawar will once again succeed in dragging her into his hell hole. Madiha Imam did not have much words in this episode but she is consistently outshining all other stars, including the veterans Shabbir Jan and Faysal Qureshi.

The last scene again emphasised the confusion this drama is centred on. Khawar started off by asking Takbeer to hit him with the same prod he used on her as if he was consumed by guilt and ended by him being harsh, threatening and manipulating enough to silent all her future protests. In reality, I don’t think such a suicide note would be if any significance if he took his own life, since he had the right to divorce his wife if her character was so unbearable for her and if he thought her family was supporting her in committing adultery. If they are going to use this as a base of all the future domestic abuse, I really hope they realise it’s absolutely ridiculous and totally futile.

The promo showed Sultan and his wife going away from home. Stay tuned to find out how that affects Takbeer and her marital problems..

Ban on Indian Dramas lifted, Pakistanis not Happy!

After the Uri attacks on Oct 19, 2011 a ban was imposed on Indian Dramas from airing on Pakistani TV channels. It wasn’t well received by people who were addicted to dramas like “Tulsi” and “Parvati” but they soon got over it when they gave our local series a chance and found them out to be much better than the Indian. One of the major reasons our drama industry has flourished so much in the last decade is because of this.

All good things come to an end, and so has this ban.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has now lifted this ban declaring it null and void as the Federal government had no objections to the Indian content being shown in the country.

A petition to overturn PEMRA’s decision was held by M/s Leo Communications which is the parent company for Filmazia. They claimed that the government was indulging in “selective patriotism” due to Bollywood films allowed in cinemas but not on television.

According to Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah,

The world has become a global village

Here’s how people reacted to the news:

Social Boycott’s Victim- “Bik Gayi Hai Gormint” Aunty!

These past few years, memes have become popular more than ever worldwide. Of Course we got some desi, Pakistani memes in these years too. But we have never thought what consequences the people involved in these memes suffer from.

One of such memes is “Bik Gayi Hai Gormint” meme. I’m sure nearly all of us have been tagged by our friends in this meme one time or the other and if not, we have definitely seen it on our newsfeeds at least.

Aunty in the meme became an overnight hit when her interview with a local news channel went viral as she called the government “Bikao” and used an aggressive selection of words to express her thoughts.

Her popularity on social media has messed up with her social life. She and her family are in fact facing a social boycott form their relatives and friends because of that viral video.

In an interview with a local television network, Aunty gormit’s son said:

She uttered whatever came in her mind when the TV vaalay came in our area that day because she was extremely angry and her blood pressure was also high.

He further explained his mother’s behaviour,

She hurls abuses whenever her blood pressure is high and she doesn’t even realize what she is saying.

According to him, his family is suffering a social boycott from their relatives and friends because of this and it has even adversely affected in the search of a good partner in marriage for his sisters.

We have had many altercations with our relatives and neighbours over the issue. As a result, no one comes to our home anymore.

Aunty gormint is mocked in markets and other public places by that video. People crack jokes and make fun of her whenever they get the chance.

Everyone makes fun of my mother. We have stopped attending family events because people, instead of enjoying the family functions, shift their focus on my mother.

We often forget that our actions could have sever consequences for someone else and the truth is, that if we aren’t directly effected by the situation, we don’t even care about it. The son was very unhappy that the clip was even aired by the news channel. According to him, the right thing to do was to delete it.

This is the video which has made life a living hell for the family:

Yakeen Ka Safar Episode 14 Review – Boring!

Ohkay so, I will be completely honest I won’t call this episode slow & without sugarcoating it, I’d straight away call it boring. This episode of Yakeen Ka Safar was so boring that I was finding it hard to sit through it & while I was at it, I was whatsapping throughout because it failed to grab my interest. I am not exaggerating but I am actually feeling relieved that the episode finished just now & I am done with it. Yes, I do understand that after every other happening episode, the makers of this drama tend to tone things down a bit so that the viewers get the crux of the situation but then again, we moved past Noori’s track so I didn’t see the need to be making things so slow that it would fail to keep the viewers engaged!

This episode was all over the place, like it covered so many non-issues & gave coverage to so many things but despite that, it didn’t give me anything to talk about. It was one of those episodes where you hardly get to discuss anything & just end up summarizing it in your review as the situations are so one-dimensional. I feel a lot for Gaiti, like every time I see her, I feel the pain that she is going through. Gaiti finally gave birth to her & Daniyal’s son & it was good that after the birth of her child, she was relieved & was being calm. Yes, she misses her husband till date but now it seemed like she found a purpose to live her life & she was happy with it.

Asfand was trying to find some evidences but the possibility of him finding anything is next to zero because now with Rab Nawaz’s death, everything has been dismissed & there’s no chance that he’d get to Dilawar or even Urooj to prove Daniyal’s innocence. In my opinion, Usman has to be the most pathetic character ever, like he fits the proverb ‘once a coward, always a coward’ perfectly. I don’t feel a thing for him & I don’t even feel like relating to his pain, in fact I find myself relating more to his wife when she cries while missing Daniyal because she being a mother always wanted her child to stay safe but Usman, despite knowing what Rab Nawaz was capable of didn’t do anything, so to see him cutting himself off from the entire world doesn’t really make any difference. His indifference at the birth of his grandson was another thing that made me detest his character. Now when he saw that Asfand was doing some work on his own to get to the culprits, in stead of encouraging him, Usman decided to scurry away from this entire situation!?!?!

Ohkay, we get it, Rehan & Sheema are sick of Zubiya & they can’t stand her but can we PLEASE move forward? Even in the scenes where they showed Zubiya in her college, she was seen sitting there aimlessly thinking about all the things that her brother & his wife said about her? Seriously? How many times are we going to hear the same things? WE GET IT, seriously we do, we do get it that Rehan hates Zubiya & Sheema is only bothered about gathering everything that Abbi has, so what else? At this point, I really feel that they have nothing to show in Zubiya’s track, like even now when the new phase of her life has begun, they had nothing to show that is why they kept on bringing up her past to add some drama in her track which seemed so unnecessary because now we know that with Abbi’s support & encouragement she is working hard to fulfill her mother’s dream, so can we please keep the focus on that? When Abbi has forgiven Zubiya & when he has announced that he trusts her, then Rehan, Sheema & their hatred shouldn’t be getting this much coverage, again & again!

Faryal got married, Asfand was heartbroken because of which he decided to go to America to complete his specialization. Usman & Co. moved to the northern areas. Gaiti’s parents didn’t see the good in the birth of Gaiti’s son & they spoke about bringing her back because they want her to get married again, like seriously!?!?! Also, Zubiya didn’t get married because her in laws to be found out about her past & Abbi had an accident, so this is what the entire episode was all about!

Overall, I found this episode boring & way too slow. I am not sure if there’s much left in the story because with Asfand moving to America, the hope that we had that he’d be able to get to the truth behind Daniyal’s death has been crushed. I don’t see it happening where Daniyal’s innocence will be proved ever, so that thing is out of the window. Also, I think all there’s left in the story is Zubiya & Asfand crossing paths & falling for each other? I hope they reach to that point of the story quickly & wrap it up decently because even though we’re through 14 episodes only, I don’t think the story even has that much of a content for it to cross the 20th episode mark that too without dragging, so let’s hope they end it decently & quickly! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Yakeen Ka Safar.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Imran Abbas Is Excited To Work With Sajal Aly

Imran Abbas Is Excited To Work With Sajal Aly

Imran Abbas and Sajal Aly have joined forces to work together for Sarmad Khoosat’s next, Noor-ul-Ain. The dynamic duo will seen together for the first time on screen, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Recently, Abbas had a chit chat with a local publication house on his upcoming project:

“It’s a beautiful love story which unfolds in a very nice way; showing the transition between the characters and their relationships.”

“I’m looking forward to it because I usually do one or two serials in a year and this is going to be my second this year – in a way it’s my third [serial] but the second one was shot last year so technically this is still my second.”

The other project Imran is talking about is his upcoming Yaar-e-Bewafa.

Sitting back on the projects he was being offered and signing only selective ones, Abbas declared the reason as:

“I had turned down many projects before coming across the script for this. I refused many TV dramas including Baaghi because I wanted to come in a project which would be highly anticipated by my fans and followers and not bore them.”

“I was very attracted to the script. The content for this serial is very good. I can’t really reveal much at this point because there’s not much I can say.”

And why wouldn’t he talk about the absolutely gorgeous diva he would be working alongside. Abbas look forwards to work opposite Sajal:

“I’m pairing with her for the first time. I think people will look forward to that because this is a fresh pairing.”

“I’m already getting some feedback from my fans and followers and it’s amazing. They hint the serial will already be a hit because people are really appreciating the pairing. Also, Sajal’s a very talented actress and I’m very happy that her film Mom is doing so well in India and all over. She’s a positive representation of Pakistan and I am so excited to work with her.”

As far as working with Sarmad Khoosat is concerned, he is not working with the director for the first time:

“I had worked with [Sarmad] once in Manto as one of the characters in the series he produced. But this is the first time I’m working with him properly in a drama serial. His work is always brilliant so I’m very comfortable this serial will do well.

“When I heard the idea of this serial, I understood that really good things are being planned by the production team. From the soundtrack to every little detail, its well planned and I can say this is the biggest serial in the upcoming season. I am looking forward to it. Fingers crossed. I hopefully won’t disappoint my fans, friends, family, anyone who loves me!”

Waqar Zaka has always had an opinion about the most controversial of topics in Pakistan and he has no qualms about expressing them. He had received quite a backlash after his posts on social media forums.

This time the actor and host has spoken up about Qandeel Baloch, Pakistan’s most controversial social media star who was murdered at the hands of her younger brother. She has been in news recently both due to her death anniversary and also in the wake of Baaghi, an Urdu1 drama that has been promoted widely. The drama will be airing shortly and veteran actress Saba Qamar will be playing the main character, Qandeel Baloch. There has been many speculations as to whether the drama will glorify her life and death or will be used as a medium to denounce evils of all kinds in our society.

Amidst all the questions and answers about Qandeel, look at what Waqar Zaka has to say about her a day ago;

Waqar Zaka Demotes Qandeel Baloch

He wants people not to pay tribute to her just because she was murdered by a man. His point is that when you would not associate with Qandeel in her life or share anything about her because it was agreed by almost everybody that her activities were disgraceful, why would you want to glorify her now? Just because she was killed wrongly? She was wronged in the end but that does not make all the wrongs she had committed by choice take a right turn.

What do you think of Waqar Zaka’s statements?

Coke Studio Shines For Ten Years And Counting !!

0

Coke Studio will air its much anticipated tenth session in August, 2017. With this mega show all set to reach its tenth anniversary merely in a few days, let’s take a look at the the most popular musical Tv program in Pakistan.

Coke Studio has gained massive popularity because it records live many music genres and collabrates with artists new and old. There  is an ethereal aura around the Studio as live music is played and all the band members and instrumental artists are present on screen. The way they do team work and the rhythm that flows between all these individuals is what makes Coke Studio so mesmerising to watch. The first six seasons were produced by Rohail Hayat of Vital Signs and the later four are by Strings. No matter the producers’ team, Coke studies is genuinely increasing in popularity with each passing year.

Since the first show of Coke Studio in June 2008, the program has been consistently focusing on a fusion of the diverse musical influences in Pakistan, including eastern classical, folk, qawwali, ghazal, bhangra, Sufi, contemporary hip hop, rock and pop music.

Here are some of the most popular songs of Coke Studio over the years;

1. Sir Kiyae by strings from season 1 was among its most popular songs. Though it does seem dark and unrefined as compared to the technical evolution of today, it was the among first of this innovative genre of music and hence, still stands strong in memories.

2. Aik Alif by Saeen Zahoor and Noori was a spiritual tune that got immense appreciation in season 2.

3. Jugni of season 3 created magic by the immense vocal harmony between Meesha Shafi and Arif Lohar. It is one of the most beautiful compilations of Coke Studio to date.

4. Daanah Pah Daanah was a very special number of season 4 by Komal Rizvi and Akhtar Zahri.

5. Koi Labda from season 5 by Symt and Sanam Marvi is still one of the most virwed songs from the show.

6. Laila O Laila was by Rohail Hyatt was a beautiful redention of the Baluchi tune and it was memorable exit by him as a producer of the program.

7. Dost by Abida Parveen was probably the best out of the lot in season 7. Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia had definitely taken over the show for the better and the brilliance carried on in the future episodes as well.

8. Tajdar e Haram by Atif Aslam kept on being a show stealer from season 8.

9. Rang by Amjad Sabri and Rahat Fateh Ali was the most anticipated song of season nine and it did not disappoint the listeners at all.

There are many more songs from the show that have created wonders over the years. During this ten years’ journey, Coke Studio was a bit slow to gain popularity in the start since people were not too keen on the newer versions of their old favourites. Around the third season, it was a household name, and then it faltered again. Listeners’ high expectations were not adequately met, especially regarding the selection criteria of singers. However, from the seventh season, it had again amassed appreciation. The start of season 8 by Tajdar e Haram’s immense popularity did wonders for both Coke Studio and Atif Aslam. Season 9 also managed to produce some beautiful numbers by Mohsin Abbas Haider, Shiraz Uppal, Abida Parveen and of course veterans Amjad Sabri and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Be it the pairing of Atif Aslam with Gul Parna or Momina Mustehsan with Rahat Fateh Ali or Mehwish Hayat with Shiraz Uppal, Coke Studio experiments, explores, deviates, surprises and never fails to mesmerize its audience with the oddest of combinations and creating magic with them on screen.

Despite all the hits and misses, Coke Studio still remains “the” one platform where your vocals and intonation, if selected, can put you in immediate spotlight for name and fame. It has brought many home singers to public eye. Let’s see how the upcoming season fares, since it will mark an important milestone for Coke Studio.

Teri Raza Episode 03 Review – Cringe Alert!

Ohkay so, it is amazing how from being clichéd this story went to being cringe-worthy. There were so many cringes in this episode that I am not sure if I’d be able to cover them all. I think the producers of this drama very well knew that the story had nothing new to offer, so to draw the attention of the viewers in, they pushed Sanam Baloch to take the bullet for the team because they knew that no matter what, her fans are going to watch this drama. It is actually quite sad that Sanam Baloch decided to make a come back but with the story which is absolutely hideous & is filled with such boring characters.

First off, the focus on Istikhara seemed way too forced because it was so obvious that the writer wanted things to work in Paa Mmtyaz’s favor. It was actually cringe worthy how before even resorting to the Istikhara, Dadi kept on pushing everyone to think beyond Imtiyaz’s age & see him as a perfect match for Suhana. I swear I have no idea how many times I cringed when Dadi referred to Imtiyaaz as ‘acha larka’ because gurl, he is anything but a ‘larka’, even for your age! At first I was kind of relieved to see the resistance by Suhana’s parents but in the very next scene they showed Zafar favoring Imtiyaz’s proposal for Suhana? There have been zero developments in the characters & they seem so one-dimensional that it shows that the writer didn’t do much thinking while penning down the script & especially the characters!

I mean I really don’t understand why they decided to promote stereotypes, as if Imtiyaz was the last guy left on the Earth & if Suhana wouldn’t get married to him, her life would be over? Once again, how old is Suhana? She is just a university student so I really didn’t understand why her parents agreed to this proposal? The way there was so much focus on Imtiyaz’s age & then Istikhara suggested as if Suhana’s entire family was far more worried about Imtiyaz’s biological clock ticking because no one in their right state of mind would get their young daughter married to someone who is double her age & is probably the first suitor that has contacted them for this matter?

Another cringe worthy scenario was when Suhana’s mother started pressurizing Suhana that she should tell Rameez to send his parents ASAP, like only so that they could reject Imtiyaz’s proposal, they wanted Rameez to approach them & even if he didn’t, why were there no thoughts given to the fact that they could politely reject Imtiyaz because they didn’t see her as Suhana’s match? It was like just because they didn’t get the second proposal, they didn’t want to turn the first one down? Desperation much?

I am kind of dreading seeing Suhana’s forlorn face in the rest of the drama because even though she said she agreed to get married to Imtiyaz as her Daadi got the sign through Istikhara, she still wasn’t ready to accept Imtiyaz or give him a chance? If that was the case & if that’s how Suhana was going to react, then she should’ve taken a stand saying if not Rameez, then no Imtiyaz as well? Like she decided to accept Istikhara, but not the person who through Istikhara was chosen for her? Does that even make sense? Also, I am not sure what the writer here is trying to promote? Manzura’s claim that someone didn’t have children because she chose to go against Istikhara only shed a light on the negative mindset of the writer because things don’t roll that way & nothing & absolutely nothing can predict what the future might hold for someone. Also, it was actually sickening to see someone’s childlessness being used as her bad luck because she didn’t go by Istikhara? First off, I’d like to tell the writer that someone’s childlessness doesn’t define anything or any bad luck, so I actually detested seeing the stereotypes being promoted. The writer definitely needs to know better! Istikhara only guides people through but it most certainly doesn’t tell what the future is going to be like!!!

Another cringe-worthy scene was when Suhana, the desperate Suhana ended up calling Rameez’s father asking if he was coming to her place or not? LOL! Like seriously, how desperate are you girl? This was the height of cringing & I mean I didn’t roll my eyes on Imtiyaz’s silk robe as much as I did throughout this scene. I really don’t get the rush that was shown in this drama to get Suhana hitched to someone!!!???!!! Let her complete her studies first please & then shift the focus on her marriage please!!!

Another cringe-worthy, typical & boring scenario was Dadi’s sudden decline in health & then her regaining her health back the moment Suhana got engaged? LOL! How many times are we going to rely on heart attacks, deaths or in this case unconsciousness to push the story forward in the direction that the one who suffers through some health issues wants? Just because Dadi fainted, the moment she woke up, she had Suhana’s engagement on her mind while still telling her that she ain’t putting any pressures on her? Yes, I do understand that they tried to show that Suhana will take some time in getting over her heart break & the lies that Rameez told but I think they should’ve shown Suhana putting everything on hold & dealing with her heartbreak first rather than rushing into this forced engagement. It was amusing how during the engagement ceremony, even Suhana’s parents were sad & had no happiness on their faces, like seriously it made me think aggar aisa hi tha to itni kya jaldi thi?

The preview of the next episode showed Rameez’s re-entry & Suhana second guessing Dadi’s Istikhara. I am not sure what to say about this story because it is just going to drag from this point onward. It is such a shame that the team of Teri Raza failed to leave a mark & impress the viewers because the story, the backbone of the project is weak! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Teri Raza.

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 13 Review – A Treat To Watch!

Ohkay so, this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan was absolutely incredible. I just couldn’t keep track of time & enjoyed everything that was revealed today. I must say the pace of the drama is absolutely perfect, so much happens in every other episode that it shows that there’s so much left to be revealed yet which makes it even more engaging. I really hope the journey of this drama remains just as amazing as it is at the moment & they keep on giving us one strong episode after another.

I loved the conversation between Qadir & Basit. The moment Qadir started speaking to his son, it was so evident that he was skeptical & was actually scared that his worst fears might come true but the moment Basit lied to him, his heart was put to ease & all of a sudden there was a change in his voice, expressions & body language. Even though Basit didn’t speak the truth but just seeing how relieved Qadir felt made me feel good about the entire situation. I really hoped that this visit & all those reminders from Qadir would serve as an eye opener for Basit & he’d realize how wrong he was.

It does seem like Nazneen has a plan up her sleeve, like she seems so comfortable in this entire messy situation & that is because she definitely has thought things through. Even though Nazneen knows that Basit will never be able to take a stand for her especially by going against his family, it looks like she has taken care of that thing as well & for now, all she wanted was to buy some time. It was kind of suspicious how Nazneen told Basit to stay quiet & keep their relationship a secret from his family because if it would’ve been any other girl, she would’ve been excited to know that her boyfriend is finally going to make their relationship official but she didn’t want that to happen. Even though the dialogue in the preview has left me confused but going by what was shown in this episode, the way Nazneen easily surrendered made me feel that she now was taking Shahzeb as a challenge & just because her ego was hurt, she didn’t mind drifting away from Basit in pursuit of being with Shahzeb? This entire situation is kind of confusing but intriguing as well because you just can not predict what is going to happen & how the characters are going to react, which makes it even more interesting to be honest & shows the detailing that the writer has added in every other situation!

At this point I can say I have started enjoying Baba Jee’s conversations & scenes because they have been written with so much of profoundness that you actually want to listen to what he has to say. ‘Sach ka raasta asaan hota to uska ajar itna ziyada na hota’, ‘jo insaan khud ko Khuda samajhte hain wo kabhi maaf nahi karte aur jo insaan samajhte hain wo bin kahay maaf kar dete hain’, what I love the most is the fact that in almost every other episode, they try to show us the difference between Allah & Insaan, like without even making things preachy, these conversations are executed seamlessly while still holding so much of meaning & depth. Shahzeb actually felt burdened that he chose to share the truth of his past with Nazneen but then Baba Jee tried to put things into perspective.

Chaman Begum surely handled everything really really well. She knew that the chapter of Nigar Begum was closed & there was no point in mourning over what, when, why & how everything went wrong, so it was quite intelligent of her that she decided to move past that stage in order to shape things up for the future. It was interesting how Chaman Begum immediately thought that Rani could’ve been the culprit but ‘ilzaam ka badla ilzaam’ conversation forced her to stay silent. Chaman Begum knows that no matter what she’d say, things will only get out of hands & the fact that she was the one who served Nigar Begum the juice could put her in trouble, so she decided to leave Rani alone. Ustaad’s conversation with Chaman also told her that Rani was the one who could save the sinking ship therefore Chaman decided to maintain her terms with Rani.

The split second scene where Rani was playing with the fountain water showed how she was trying to feel what it was like having everything in the palm of her hands. Yes, at first when the news of Nigar’s death broke out, Rani did feel a little scared but the moment she heard that Chaman Begum spoke about keeping everything under wraps, she immediately realized that she won at this battle without even trying & that is why she all of a sudden started feeling at ease & was seen enjoying this sense of freedom that she was experiencing after a long long time.

Sadly, the dancer Shammo & even the renowned makeup artist Shammi was never good enough for Rani. I loved how they showed that Rani was once again standing at a crossroad & life was giving her two opportunities, one that she was making for herself & the other which was being presented to her. Shammi showed her the other side of the picture where he promised her family, comfort, shelter & a lot of love but Rani felt she got the chance to fulfill her dreams, so she should make the most of it. Yes, this is going to cost Rani a lot & even though for now she doesn’t realize but the time will come when she will understand that she made a huge mistake but sadly, at this moment she is so blinded by the idea of fame, success & reigning that she is not thinking about anything else. So, Rani finally got what she wanted, she finally stepped on Nigar Begum’s throne, she was finally going to rule the realm that Nigar Begum left behind, but only the time will teach her that being Nigar Begum comes with a territory.

So, looks like just when Shahzeb completely lost hope, he got the news that Nazneen herself agreed for this marriage. I am sure there’s more to it because the way Samina & Razia were concerned, I can totally see something odd happening. I am sure things are going to get more interesting henceforth!

Overall, I enjoyed this episode a lot. I must say the art direction of this drama is phenomenal, like every other scene is a visual treat & has aesthetics that you just feel teleported to another world. It is pretty evident that they didn’t only focus on the execution of the script but actually wanted to breathe life into every single situation by adding so much attention to detail & it surely has worked. Even though his scene was short, I loved Noor Ul Hassan’s performance, like he portrayed the concerns of a father to perfection. All the other actors have done a brilliant job. I loved how Shammi cried when he once again got rejected, like he wanted to hide his tears but still couldn’t contain himself, Imran Ashraf is amazing. Ushna Shah has been the star of the show right from the beginning & it is amazing that she has done justice to each & every shade of Rani’s personality, like it was amazing to see how Rani’s attitude & body language changed when she got the power & I must add, she looked absolutely gorgeous in the last scene. The preview has left me confused, not sure what future holds for Basit & I am definitely interested to see what’s going to happen. Please share your thoughts about this amazing episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.
