Are You Too a Fan of Faiza Beauty Cream?

Are you an Asian? If yes then you are familiar with the importance of GORA RANG kyunki “Goray rang ka zamana kabhi hoga na purana!”

Asians are known to have olive skin tones. In simple words we are brown; if you have watched all those white vs brown videos where browns are mostly the winners you will know know the concept. But do we accept the reality? Do we accept our brown complexions? I think that is not the case atleast ads on our televisions do not suggest that! Like watch this one:

Okay so we just learnt from the ad that if you are dark your man will start running behind Gori Nisa girls. The amount of such ads pouring on our television screens since decades and these campaigns actually working is a simple depiction ke sabb hojana chahte hain goray goray.

When I was a child I used to wonder during gatherings that why several aunties have vampire like white faces. Is this makeup or something is wrong with them and now being an adult I know what it was. It was neither makeup nor a skin problem. It was an OBSESSION. An obsession to become fairest of all.

Are You Too a Fan of Faiza Beauty Cream?

We Asians are blessed people. We can wear eastern with matha pattis and jhoomkay or western gowns and jump suits and can look equally gorgeous. In case of men whether they wear kurtay or tuxes they can pull off both because our skin tones complement both looks. But in place of appreciating this fact we got stuck up in Gora obsession and changed our blessing into a problem. What are we teaching our generation that if you are not fair you will not get a job, no rishta for you and success will become allergic to you. Look at this girl below she will get all the attention she desperately wanted by turning herself into doodh malai because apparently the makers of this ad think that chocolate is not likeable?

Are You Too a Fan of Faiza Beauty Cream?

And Pakistan needs to become GORA!

Are You Too a Fan of Faiza Beauty Cream?

We did not expect this from you Zubaida aapa!

You will witness this mindset everywhere. Aunties looking for rishtas will choose the younger sister in place of the candidate elder one because the younger one is more fair and can be a perfect Belle for their beast like sons. Even in the entertainment industry many celebrities have taken whitening treatments though they will deny this but the audience have eyes. The top league will always consist of gori chamri wale boys and girls because people of colour are not talented enough right? All of them will deny it but the pictures just talk:

Are You Too a Fan of Faiza Beauty Cream?

Are You Too a Fan of Faiza Beauty Cream?

Yes one thing positive done by this trend and mindset is the revenue it is generating for both beauty clinics and psychiatrists. Beauty clinics are scene advertising how they will lighten your skin and will make you look like Angelina Jolie. They have injections, medicines, lasers in short a whole weaponry to kill that melanin in you. This extreme obsession is good for psychiatrists too as it can damage a lot of youngsters mentally. Many teenagers get bullied because kitni kaali hai woh but as we do not think this mere thing can cause anxiety it can be very dangerous to the young minds. They feel out of place and ugly and to be honest once this feeling settles into you; you cannot overcome it even after becoming a mature adult.

The need of the hour is ACCEPTANCE. We have to learn ourselves first hand that it is not wrong to be of colour; to not look very fair. To not call names to a person  just because they have a darker complexion than us. To use the foundation of our own shade because zombiness is not beauty. We should spread awareness in the masses and ban the ads showing dark people will just be unsuccessful on personal and professional fronts because they are dark. We have to educate ourselves and our children that their single attempt of making fun of another person will fill them with hatred and sorrow. We have to remember our old Islamic studies that the queen of hoors will be given to Hazrat Bilal Habshi RA and he was very dark.

We need to know that colour is a beauty in itself and just like you cannot be fair like some people; remember they cannot have the golden bronzed beauty that you have. Accept yourself because beauty lies in being what you truly are.

Are You Strong Enough To Be My Man?

0

Men- we can’t live with them; can’t live without them. If one were to believe Pakistani dramas, men are unfaithful, abusive, dominating, and yet, they enjoy God-like status. But lately, our dramas have been showcasing a different side of the proverbial strong, confident man. Presenting the new breed of confused, easily swayed, perpetually distraught men. These are the ones who are constantly doubting themselves and their ability to think for themselves. Irrespective of their age, background, and whatever else, these men are mere puppets who are more than willing to have someone else exercise mind control techniques that render them incapacitated. Go on, have a look for yourself:

Tabrez Alam from Adhura Milan– So far, he’s been married three times but his first wife, who is many years his senior has him wrapped around her little finger. He won’t eat, pray, love without her consent. On the plus side, if you can call it that, she orders him to don a sherwani and arranges nikah after nikah for him. How many wives would do that?

ta

Asad from Janam Jali– Surely he must have been drugged as a child. There can be no other rationale to explain his behaviour throughout the serial. So, he marries his college friend and puts her through 8 years of torture at the hands of his mother- abuse in too small a word for what Bee Jee does with his wife, Saima. And then, he marries his cousin at the demand of his mother, severed all ties with his first wife on the insistence of his new wife and mommy dearest and then after his mommy goes cuckoo and passes away, begs for his first wife back… She ends up reconciling but karma haunts him and she turns into a reflection of her saas Bee Jee…

jj

Jahzaib from Izteraab– Well, this one’s a little different. It didn’t quite take a woman to sway him- but the temptation of home cooked meals was far too great for him to resist and he casually strolls to Biwi No. 2 only to swing back to Biwi No. 1…

iz

Bulannd from Bashar Momin– He’s not-so-Bulannd to be honest- far from it really. He agrees to get engaged to a girl his father chooses for him (a mangni that takes place in Pakistan with a video recording for him since he can’t travel the distance from the US of A to Pakistan- duh!) but falls in love with her when he comes to Pakistan after the demise of both their fathers… But, his college friend casts her eyes on him and deviously plots with her brother to break his engagement and it works! Since, any man would believe any random person over their fiance!

bulund

Zawaar from Ahista Ahista- The snooze fest of the season this one. The multi-billionaire Zawaar lives in Amreeka while his mumsy Bee Jaan lies in bed all day and dreams of the day her son will get married so she can rest in peace (as if she’s moving a muscle). But wait, he’s already married- happily, mind you, to Sophie. He’s kept the marriage under wraps since he loves his mother far too much to break her heart- Bee Jaan’s only demand was for him to marry a Pakistani girl with Pakistani values who will give birth to his Pakistani children- never mind Amreeka for now. She fakes an illness that sends Zawaar rushing to Pakistan and there he gets forced (but naturally) to get married to his much younger cousin… How in God’s name can a man refuse that???

aa

Faisal from Mausam– Supposedly the most eligible man in the family (you can guess what kind of family it may be), Faisal is obsessed with Shazia but his mother forces him to marry Saman. Poor guy can’t stand up to his mom. But he can continue his sleazy affair on the sides with Shazia. She manages to lure him easily and things are going smoothly until he finds out Shazia was just killing time with him until a better prospect comes along.

mausam

Aazar from Mohabbat Ab Nahi Hogi– My current guilty pleasure! So Aazar’s strings are in the hands of his Bhabi! Yes, the two of them are so alike, it’s a miracle they weren’t twins. Bhabi has turned psycho due to her frustrations of being married to a boring man and she prefers the company of her dewar. Until the dewar gets married and Bhabi plays all her cards right to create a rift in the marriage.

manh

Jaanam from Jaanam- I honestly can’t remember his name but this has got to be the cheesiest titles in a long time and the over-usage of Jaanam made my ears bleed. So Jaanam (Adnan Siddiqui again!) is happily married to his Jaanam (Saba Qamar) and this deadly duo have reproduced two more Jaanams. Despite his wife’s opposition to his badniyat friend, Jaanam invites the sleazy friend to live with him and his friend leaves no opportunity to pass double meaning comments to his wife and make very obvious advances. But Jaanam believes whatever his friend feeds him and ultimately he will end up involved with his friend’s daughter after things go sour with his Jaanam.

jaa

These are some of the names that came to my mind. I’d love to hear your additions to the list.

Yours in watching,

Kanwal Murtaza

Are You Ready To Be A Star?

0

Geo TV’s latest initiative to find talent of all kinds in Pakistan is a step towards the right direction. Pakistan is a country which has no dearth of talented people but there is without any doubt a shortage of platforms where these people can showcase their talent. Geo TV’s initiative “Are You Ready To Be A Star” is all encompassing because there is no age barrier and people having any kind of talent can be a part of this talent hunt. Those gifted performers who are shortlisted by Geo’s team which composes of judges who are leading in their fields will polish the skills of these people even further and will give a kick start to their career by including them in projects which will ensure that their talent is seen by all.

10 9 8

Geo TV has done something which is rather original by going to different educational institutions and letting the students there have an opportunity to show what they have got. So Geo is not making these people come to them but it is going to them which means that they are looking out for the interest of those who want to be stars just as much as their own. Until now the team of “Are You Ready To Be A Star” has gone to leading institutions in Lahore like Kinnaird College, LUMS and Beaconhouse National University.

1

Keeping into consideration that not all talented people go to institutions like the ones they have been visiting till now Geo has also given those people an opportunity who might not be that well off by having open auditions for anyone who wants to be a part of this talent hunt on a day which is a public holiday which is May 1st. The interested candidates will be registered from 9 to 11 am and the auditions will start after that. Even kids can take part in this talent hunt program.

2 3 5

Geo’s attempt to find talent in every nook and corner of Lahore has proved to be a very successful exercise till now and people are waiting for their team to make their presence felt in other cities of Pakistan as well. This is not the first time that Geo has tried to give an opportunity to people to bring their talent to light. We appreciate Geo’s effort and hope that other television channels will follow their lead!

Are you ready for 2nd Baby? Reema Asked Aiman Khan

Aiman Khan and Muneeb Butt happen to be one of the most loved couples of Pakistan television. The duo tied the knot back in 2018 and now are parents to a beautiful daughter, Amal Muneeb.

Are you ready for 2nd Baby? Reema Asked Aiman Khan

Aiman and Muneeb’s first daughter Amal was born on 30th August 2019. The little one is a gorgeous 9 month old currently and apparently the apple of her family’s eyes.

Are you ready for 2nd Baby? Reema Asked Aiman Khan

In a recent Ramzan Transmission, where Aiman and Muneeb made an appearance together, the two talked about how difficult it was to handle a baby.

Confessing how she didn’t even know how to handle a baby when Amal was born, Aiman said, “Amal gave me a very tough time because I didn’t know how to tackle her. It is very difficult to handle your first baby. I was quite young myself and didn’t know what to do.”

Reema also asked Aiman and Muneeb whether they were ready for another baby. The two, appeared visibly, shook as Aiman had explained how Amal had given her a tough time.

Stalling the question for a while, Aiman and Muneeb finally answered that they weren’t really planning for another baby soon or in the near future as they were quite content with Amal at the moment.

This has definitely let us wondering whether Aiman Khan plans to return to her TV dramas once Amal is old enough and settled at home. Because we sure as certain would want to see her back on TV killing it again.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B_qBhNml93o/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Aiman also added that Amal gave her a very tough time as she would stay awake through the night. “She has only just started sleeping through the night for 2-3 consecutive hours, so now I’m able to catch up on my sleep,” said the Baandi actress.

Are you ready for 2nd Baby? Reema Asked Aiman Khan  The couple also talked about their plans for a second baby, about which Aiman and Muneeb both replied that they had no such plans in the near future as they were very much content with Amal at the moment.

Are You Giving Express Entertainment A Chance?

0

Express Entertainment was an Indian-Turkish channel only a few months back. There were hardly any Pakistani dramas on-air from it which was highly disappointing. After Eid, they started Pakistani dramas as well.

The following are a few of their dramas. Do tell me what you think about them:

1. Apni Kahani Kese Kahein:

The story of two besties, who lived in the same neighborhood.  The characters were played by Sanam Chauhdry and Sumbhul Iqbal.

apni-kahani-kese-kahein

Sanam’s character was of an idiot girl who was easily manipulated by boys. She ended up being used by a boy who had claimed to love her. This is why her khaala got her married, immediately, to a much older man to save her from disgrace. He was a torturous and shukki man who abused her. In the end, she decided to take a stand for herself and told her story to the media.

Sumbhul’s character was of a girl whose was brought up in a very strict environment by her shukki father. He asked a private tutor to teach her. That tutor was Aly Khan and both of them fell in love with each other. Her father decided to marry her off and that’s when she made a plan to run away with him. She reached the place where they both were supposed to catch up, but he was nowhere to be seen. Instead, her father arrived there and is a fit of anger, he locked her in the house until the wedding day. Her husband was Saleem Sheikh whose first wife had cheated on him. He thought all educated women were cheats.  Sumbhul could never tell him that she was educated. She however, resumed meeting her teacher without asking him why he abandoned her. She even invited him to her house and the maid saw them together.

Her sister-in-law, nand, hated her for no reason. She discovered Sumbhul’s diary which had a dried rose in it, along with her love story and her teacher’s number. She started her “research” and eventually found out about the affair. In the end, she told her brother about this. He was enraged and dragged his wife into his room, locked it and took out a gun. He then asked her the reality and tried to shoot her which let to a fight between the two and in confusion he shot himself.

The case of his killing was taken to the court. She was blamed for the killing but then her father showed up. Then came the biggest twist of the story.

He said that his daughter couldn’t possibly have met her teacher because he had killed him with his own hands the day she ran away. His daughter had been imagining her love interest all this time. She was mentally ill and this led to her creating a fantasy in which he came to visit her. A doctor told that her mental condition was due to the unnecessarily strict environment in which she grew up.

The drama ended with Sumbhul asking her father, “Why did you kill him?”

Her mother-in-law (Samina Ejaz) realized that Sumbhul needed care and affection and thus, took Sumbhul under her care.

The other prisoners in the jail give Ameen a hard time. His health deteriorates and he ends up in the hospital. The officer informs this to Nisa who freaks out and decides to go to the hospital with him. Molvi sees them together this leads to him doubting Nisa’s character even more. He pleads his mother to ask for the second sisters hand in marriage.

Are you excited for O21?

0

O21 is Pakistan’s first spy-thriller movie. directed by Jami, co-directed by Summer Nicks and produced by Zeba Bakhtiar & her son Azaan Sami Khan.  The word spy-thriller is enough to be excited for it but there are many other reasons as well:

It is the first Pakistani film to be released in 22 countries simultaneously including the United States, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom.

1. Experienced actors:

10553443_945028762178047_4493030048382747142_n

The actors are experts in their fields. We have seen them setting the screen on fire before, specially Ayub Khoso and then Shaan whose Waar was a super-hit, will return to the silver-screen.

2. Shan-Shamoon duo:

This duo was at its best in Waar. Their scenes were a treat to watch and there was a really good chemistry between them. Shamoon’s Ramal was a very interesting villain different from the regular ghundas we get to see.

3. The trailers:

The promos are exciting and full of thrill. They, thankfully, did not disappoint me. The promos have definitely increased my interest. The editors did a good job by giving us the complete essence of the movie.

5. The storyline:

I will not give away anything here. The story involves Afghanistan and the turmoil it is facing. There are some alliances and some discord along the thrilling action-packed path which is, Operation 21.

The CIA factor is also compelling me to watch the movie.

6.  The posters:

One word for them. Awesome! Just by looking at the posters you can realize how deep the characters are. The color combo is perfect and so is the wardrobe.

Are You Brand Conscious?

0

I am not a brand conscious person at all, I can gladly wear or use anything non-branded without thinking for a second that it will ruin my image in any way or will not look good. I don’t think that wearing or using branded things changes anything, what matters to me most is my comfort but that does not hold true for everyone. I do not know how things used to be before but nowadays it seems like we are fast turning into a group of people who very often weigh each others worth and even our own worth on the basis of which brand one can afford. This is very sad because we live in a country where most people live below the poverty line and many cannot afford the basic necessities of life.

The reason I decided to write this article and derived this conclusion is that the other day all of us friends had a get together and every time someone complimented the other person, the answer was thank you and then came the name of the brand he or she was using. If I tell someone “wow nice lipstick”, the answer would be, “thank you it is mac”. If you say to someone, “I like your bag”, the answer will be, “oh thank you I bought it from Charles and Keith”. This makes me wonder, do people buy expensive, branded things because they like to or so that they can tell others that they can afford these things?

I have nothing against people who can afford branded things and like to buy them but it is the mentality that most such people have that bugs me. If I tell someone that I like to buy shoes from Bata or Servis, I may be considered an outcast because I am considered to be living in the 16th century…if I find these shoes comfortable then why must I go to a more expensive outlet just because it is a brand that is known internationally and is worn by the rich and famous? To me my comfort comes first and also I do not want to be part of the “brand competition”, it seems like once you start labeling people and yourself based on what brands you buy or they use life gets a lot more complicated because there will always be brands that are more expensive…so where does it all end?

I even know parents who think it is beneath them to buy things for their children from a local outlet. If they cannot go abroad to shop for their child, they will make sure that they go to the most expensive branded store next to them. I have always dressed my children in clothes that anyone can buy from the local market and they look just fine in them and the clothes last too. I have even heard discussions about how the local Cerelac (or any other baby food) is not as good as the imported one., I can’t help but laugh at such conclusions but usually do not try to convince the brand conscious people. It seems like some of us are just convinced that the local goods can never be good enough and it is only the imported branded things that come with a guarantee. I have to confess that I did invest a big amount of well earned money into buying some branded things, not to please my brand conscious friends but strictly out of curiosity. I wanted to know what was about these things that had these people so convinced that they were the best. My experience wasn’t good at all, the clothes I bought looked old after a few washes…maybe it was just my bad luck but it also reinforced my belief in the saying that curiosity killed the cat!!

Are you brand conscious? If yes then what is the reason for it? Are the people around you brand conscious? If yes then does it bug you? Please share your thoughts.

Are We Getting Too Conscious!?!

0

Well during my stay in Pakistan lately I got a chance to surf the unlimited Pakistani channels all day long, I couldn’t help noticing what sort of ‘information’ & ‘education’ our shows are providing us. Be it a morning show or off-peak time shows, all I could get hold of was on those silly tips about how one can fake their beauty, how a girl can beautify herself, how to make yourself look beautiful artificially & it was all about beauty – where I must mention, it was all about the external beauty.

Ohkay, I understand that they are trying to make us people aware of what can be done & what things are available in the market but just to focus on girls or ladies that too of a certain social class is by no means healthy. We must not forget that Pakistan also has the urban class too where they don’t even have an access to the basic necessities & there our channels are, preaching on how can one make oneself look beautiful using all the hideous techniques that the so called dermatologists & a few certified skin specialists have brought into Pakistan & making the less fortunate more anxious about the things that are un-necessary & yet not affordable for so many.

I have been noticing this trend from quite some while now that all the ladies who come up on the shows just talk about the makeups, the foundations, a billion sorts of costly products, those evenings & morning make up looks & to add more to the woes the endless promotions of face-lifting techniques, laser procedures on the skins, botox injections & the new craze of ‘filler injections’. They just love to blabber immorally, passing extreme rude comments on the girls or ladies who have some issues with their skins or facial features.

I once got to hear a morning show host, who loves to conduct shows on the makeups (because she has got no better ideas) say in one out of her million sessions on makeup & artificial beauty make a statement saying ‘aggar app Allah ki banai hui surat se khush nahi hain to koi baat nahi app in injections se apne appko aur khoobsurat bana sakte hain’. The moment I heard her, all I could say was ‘Astaghfirullah’. On the same morning show, some renowned makeup artist was trying to tell what sort of a bridal makeup would’ve looked good on the girl who was showing her wedding pictures, but in stead of making a person feel good about what they are, she was just trying to tell how abnormal she looked or how elongated her face is, how ill-shaped her jawline is & how bad her skin was. One comment that caught me off guard was by the host who said ‘oh my she looks like a man on her wedding day’. Sorry to say but just because someone is sharing her personal real-life picture with you, who gives you the right to underestimate her that too on a national television?

I can’t help but wonder that why the media personnel try to see people with a certain criteria of a beauty? Why can’t they understand that all the people are beautiful even if you fail to see throught it. I really can not understand the agenda they are following. Are they really so indulged in this mortal world that they even don’t step back in involving our Creator into these petty stuff they want to sell? I really fail to understand the point where these ladies who have nothing better to do are just trying to make other ladies super conscious about their outer looks. My question is that what has gotten into them? Why can’t they just let people live simply? Is it really important to be all glammed up where as completely forgetting the roots? What’s right as in what has been allowed to us Muslims & what’s not?

Making your whole nation aware about something necessary & good is for sure something everyone should do but addressing a certain class along with making conscious the less fortunate is by every means inhumane. I am sure & I can say that those who come up & flaunt their external beauty on-screens then only have that left with them because they have no insight & nor any morality.

There are a million things in this world which can be talked about. A millions things that can be taught or preached about but all the phone calls that people make on these shows are surprisingly from the remotest areas or under-developed cities of Pakistan & the poor ladies are mostly asking questions about all this stuff because they are being brain-fed again & again & continuously about these things. I really hope to see one such show on Pakistani media which I can say has taught me something good or beneficial. Some show which not only focuses on a certain class of people but addresses the whole nation equally. I hate to see them making us a conscious nation because we’re for sure better off than & without this.

Please feel free to add more as I’d love to hear your take on this issue.

Are We Finally Witnessing An End Of Stereotypical Dramas?

In this day and age, no one can deny the great power of television. Despite the cyber revolution, television, too, is a powerful medium to inform, educate, entertain and create awareness. It also advocates, whether subtly or forcefully, and it definitely affects how the audience thinks.

Pakistani dramas, which are the most common pick of the audience, have been following stereotypes since years. Most of the stereotypical dramas center around the family, especially women, often as independent individuals and most often as mothers, sisters and wives. Women were continuously illustrated as sacrificing machines who bear all the abuse, blame and humiliation because that is expected from a ‘good’ Pakistani woman. All we used to see was typical saas bahu sagas and roti doti woman, because that was obviously the tried and tested formula for a blockbuster drama.

I have heard some people arguing that these stereotypes exist in dramas only because they exist in real life and this does happens. That may be true in certain cases. But do they always? Obviously not! The stories now are developing and there’s a lot more to be witnessed on the television. There is an array of shows daring to be different with out of the box concepts.

Dramas are now based on new and alluring concepts
Finally, it seems directors and producers are coming out of cliched story lines and introducing new ideas. The focus is somehow still on woman but it just doesn’t show the damsel in distress, but instead focuses on different concepts, which weren’t covered before. We are probably entering into a phase which will hopefully give birth to a new era. From showcasing social causes to woman empowerment, from politics to black magic, we are set to be welcoming a NEW way of viewing television. While some shows with a different topic are already on air, there are some which are still to air but still seem promising than ever through the promos which reveals the kind of subject being chosen. With more meaningful plots, these TV shows also helped in shaping and changing the perceptions of the people who were still webbed in the stereotypes and repetitive sagas. It is only unfortunate that Saas bahu sagas, love triangles and somewhere crying woman do still exist, but one cannot ignore the fact and appreciate the dramas that dare to be different.

Here’s a list of dramas that are breaking stereotypes:

1) Sammi and Pinjra
Are We Finally Witnessing An End Of Stereotypical Dramas?
These drama don’t propagate the idea of a woman’s world revolving around her man because there’s more to a women than just crying and dreaming for a man. Sami and Pinjra are highlighting a social issue of Vani which is secretly alive and practiced in many parts of Pakistan. It is an ugly truth that needs awareness and these drama serve the right purpose and have a clear and loud message.

2) Muqabil
Are We Finally Witnessing An End Of Stereotypical Dramas?
Muqabil is a prayerful drama that highlights the crucial issue of sexual abuse in the country. The drama entails the story of a girl who was sexually abused at a young age. It is showing the girl as a fighter just like Udaari did and is equally interesting. The show is tackling with issue which was always a taboo in our society.

3) Farz
Are We Finally Witnessing An End Of Stereotypical Dramas?
Farz is a female-oriented drama and has a protagonist who has aimed to empower women. It revolves around a girl who has taken over her responsibilities and vowed to change her life and fight back patriarchy and discrimination to the best of her efforts.

4) Saanp Sehri
Are We Finally Witnessing An End Of Stereotypical Dramas?
Where most dramas covering politics, somewhere in between lose the track and focus on rather unexpected things. Saanp Sehri is a breath of fresh air as it is covering power and politics with a touch of a love story too.

5) Sang e Marmar
Are We Finally Witnessing An End Of Stereotypical Dramas?
The drama examines the intricacies of two families that have been embroiled in a feud. The drama also highlights Vani and how dastardly concept of ‘honour’ leads to it. Sang e Marmar explains how abuse is a set dynamic in rural households and how it ruins so many families and lives. The performances are categorically flawless and no doubt the story is enthralling as ever.

6) Khuda Mera Bhi Hai
Are We Finally Witnessing An End Of Stereotypical Dramas?
Last but not the least, KMBH is focusing on transgender, sexuality has always been a taboo in our society. Narrating a life of an intersex child, the show finally manages to bring in a subject that we have vociferously ignored, silently hidden in the deepest darkest part of our entire being. The theme is powerful and also discusses acceptance of the transgender community.

Kudos, and more power to writers and directors who are making dramas like these that have substance, heart, and a story that relates to and resonates with everyone on a deep and personal level.

But, will the race yet again lead to an era where quantity matters more than quality?
Pakistani shows had always represented the ideal woman every men wanted, and a men every woman was taught to desire. But Udaari challenged the topics chosen for dramatizing. In almost a 3-4 decades old history of television, we saw the concept of a victim turning into a survivor and it was certainly the best thing happened to Pakistani television. The dramas turning out to be different is everything we had ever asked for, but many dramas are trying to follow Udaari’s footstep but not all might actually succeed. We might be witnessing many dramas of the same kind currently on television which makes the whole subject dull and wearisome but there’s still hope that this is the high time when Pakistan’s drama industry is moving towards better.

So, are we finally witnessing an end of stereotypical dramas? Do share your thoughts.

Are We Being Too Judgmental!?!

0

judgements1

I know it’s an edgy debate but one way or the other that is something we all tend to involve ourselves into. No matter how much we try to ignore but we do get judgmental when it comes to our celebrities. Over these years, Pakistani audience have shown great acceptance towards the celebrities & media personnel but where some have accepted them wholeheartedly, there are some who have judged them harshly too.

I think it goes both ways. I have come across many articles stating that the celebrities are upset about people being judgmental & bringing them down. I know the celebrities have to come in contact with a lot of people where people treat them as a wall & trash them but, there are some of those people as well who appreciate their efforts. I then feel it relies on the celebrities themselves as to how they can prevent themselves from getting judged.

Not speaking on the Islamic grounds but on a general basis, I think the celebrities should give special consideration to the sentiments of their audience because where they have survived in the industry on the basis of their talent; their fans have played an important part in turning them into the stars too. I see the celebrities make such choices which may not be in accordance to our ‘culture’ but then they expect people to understand & hope that it doesn’t backlash; I think it’s a mistake on their part. Being the representative of the country even on the national television, I think the celebrities should take a pride in being responsible for depicting an image of the country they belong to. Sadly but truthfully, we have seen the influence of westernization in our industry which at times does get burdensome to watch. Our stars adapting to it & giving out a clear message of them being not worried about what their followers might think doesn’t help either. I know it’s a matter of one’s choices & the stars are free to decide for themselves but then I feel a little consideration goes a long way & earns them nothing but respect.

As far as we; the viewers are concerned. I think it’s important to understand that there’s a thin line between expectations & judgments. Fans do expect a lot from their favourite stars but then those expectations take a spur of a moment to turn into a judgment. I think we must understand that by the end of the day, celebrities are just normal people like us but just because they open themselves to the world, we shouldn’t allot this duty to ourselves to turn into moral police & start bashing them openly.

I myself have seen a few Facebook pages where people would stalk & like a celebrity page just to make a point of how much they hate them!?! I think if someone doesn’t like anyone, it’s better to ignore & let them do their work because their opinions & their derogatory comments would make no difference to them but it would rather expose their own mentality.

When we discuss the dramas, it’s always fun to see people restricting their comments to the characters & not directing them at the actors. I think this practice is an accurate example of how one’s not being judgemental because whatever one says, says it in regards to the dramas, the imaginary characters & that’s it. The internet bashing has taken an ugly face where people take pride in bringing down the celebrities & if the celebrities react to it, people get more agitated which results in a vicious never-ending cycle. I think if someone puts forth an opinion about any celebrity then they should be open to how the person in question responds to that.

Please take note that this is a very very general article written with a positive mind-set. This article is by no means an attempt to bring any celebrity or their follower down but is just based on a mere observation. Share what you feel about how we; the viewers are when it comes to judging the others & how it depends on the celebrities to pay utmost attention to the sentiments of their fans to prevent any judgements coming their way.

Are These Scenes From HKKST Inspired From Hamsafar

Mahira Khan made her television come back with the drama serial Hum Kahan Ke Sachy Thay after a hiatus of years. People were more than excited for Mahira Khan’s comeback. HKKST is a novel-based drama written by the legendary writer Umera Ahmed. Expectations from the cast, writer and director were extremely high right from the beginning. When the drama started, its typical storyline of two girls drolling over their cousin somehow disappointed the viewers, yet the strong performances kept the interest of the public alive. From the past few episodes, the extended toxic story line and overly stretched plot have received a lot of criticism from the public.

In the recent episode of HKKST, while persuading Mehreen to apologize from Mashal’s family Aswad lowkey abused Mehreen and the scene was really very disturbing. In the next scene, he started hitting himself after realizing his mistake. Netizens found that scene really similar to a famous scene of Hamsafar. Where Ashar and Khirad interacted. Even though the situation was quite different but the uncanny resemblance in the scenes made everyone think that the scenes are actually inspired by Hamsafar.

Are There Schools Like College Gate In Pakistan

Pakistan has a very scattered schooling system. We have children studying in Madrassas with very little to no access to the worldly disciplines of study. Then we have students studying in the matri, FSc system while there is a small ratio studying in the elite schools under Cambridge and Agha Khan Boards etc. So, the country has no one type of environment in the basic schools we have but College Gate came under criticism for showing a college that does not really exist in Pakistan.

Are Pakistani Designers and Celebrities using abuse and Harassment as a theme for marketing?

0

Lately , Saira Shakira has got done a photoshoot of the products for Crimson by Ali Xeeshan. No doubt Saira is an excellent designer but this time when the pictures of the shoot came out , it caused problem to many.

9999

Social media spoke out loud against the way the pictures were shot, in a picture the model Sanam Saeed is standing and few men are starring at her in a very demeaning manner. This picture completely seems a support material for harassment.

57b82945a7baf

Another picture by Ali Xeeshan in which the model Amna Baber is standing with Hasnain Lehri and he is forcefully holding her wrist. This picture has also remained the talk of the town. The audience believe it projects male dominance.

Untitled

Saira and Ali both have tried to clarify the situation that the entire shoot was not done with such intention. Saira said in the Sanam Saeed picture we are trying to show that she is a celebrity and people are just attracted to her good looks. Saira also insisted that let the entire shoot come out and then people should decide what the exact theme is.

Ali also explained on Instagram that he has not thought of demeaning woman in shoot at all, according to him he was only showing the real face of our society. Ali has removed the pictures at Instagram as he believe that people do not want to face the truth.

Anum Akram of Crimson explains the entire thing as internet scandal and people are viewing the pictures out of context. No matter what the context is but pictures really are very disturbing. Sad but true!

Apart from the designers these celebrities Sanam Saeed & Amna Baber who are woman them self must be questioned that why they got ready for doing such kind of shoot, which is just a cheap marketing stunt.

Are Pakistani Celebrities really patriotic?

I chose to write on this topic regarding the following tense situation between Pakistan and India. Of course we Pakistanis wants a good relations with our neighbours and I am happy how India and Pakistan share entertainment with each other. However on other side if someone dares to cast an evil eye on Pakistan then we are ready for anything that can possibly happen.

download

Anti-Pakistani statements from India had always united this nation but today I am going to shed light on our celebrities who on many occasions claims to be patriotic but my question is that are Pakistani celebrities really patriotic? Well it is hell true that most of our celebrities are dying to work in Bollywood on any costs and this is the reason why no one said anything on social media except Hamza Ali Abbasi regarding Anti-Pakistani statements recently issued from Indian government. So basically what motivates our celebrities to work in Bollywood? The answer is obvious Money and Fame.

Patriotism

Let’s have a look on our celebrities’ enthusiasm to work in Bollywood.

Fawad Khan and Ali Zafar signing more Bollywood movies:

Ali Zafar had been criticised by Pakistani audience for working in Bollywood movies because of the fact his mostly Bollywood movies had reflected the bad image of Pakistan whether talk about “tere bin laden”or “Total Siyapa”. Furthermore I have found Ali Zafar working in Indian serials but he is ashamed to work in Pakistani drama serials. So in a nutshell he can work in low quality projects in Bollywood but don’t have time now to contribute to Pakistani Entertainment Industry.

Ranveer Singh and Ali Zafar at the 59th Idea Filmfare Pre Awards Party
Ranveer Singh and Ali Zafar at the 59th Idea Filmfare Pre Awards Party

Fawad Khan once a heartthrob of Pakistan is now well settled in India. Now you can only find him in Hum awards otherwise he is absolutely not available for Pakistan. Fawad Khan is signing more and more movies in Bollywood and he has no intention to work in Pakistani Film or in any upcoming dramas. So this is how he gives respect to his Pakistani fans and we are like “Oh mera fawad nazar na lage ise”

fawad khan

Mawra Hocane steps in India to work for Bollywood:

Then there comes overrated Mawra Hocane who was also so enthusiastic to enter glamorous and vulgar Bollywood industry that she signed three Bollywood films on the cost of getting half naked. The lame excuse from Mawra was that she entered Bollywood to explore new horizons of acting and the new horizons are to reveal your body. Moreover when Salman Khan got jailed she was screaming on social media so much as if her husband got jailed and on the other hand at that time she didn’t even bother to write a single statement to condemned the Safoora goth tragedy which happened on the same day when Salman Khan was sent to jail.

mawra

Sadia Khan and Humaima Malick Shameful appearances in Bollywood:
As if we hadn’t enough from humaima’s shameful appearance in Bollywood film “Mr.Natwarlal”. Sadia Khan is also ready to keep our head down in shame as she will be soon debuting in a bold gay love story Indian film “Dunno Y2… Life is a moment”. Moreover without any guilt she said in an interview that she had represented her country well.

sadia khan

Meekal Zulfiqar working in Anti Pakistani Film
Meekal Zulfiqar might be the favourite celebrity among Pakistani audience but I guess this nation has forgotten that he had once worked in an Anti-Pakistani Film “Baby” thereby receiving a ban in Pakistan. This is another solid reason to state for our celebrities that only Money & Fame matters to them and claiming Patriotism is just a way to fool this nation in order to get attention.

hqdefault

Pakistani Channels keen to release Indian Movie under their banners
Well not only our celebrities who claims to be patriotic but our Media channels 24×7 claims that Pakistan is first for them. While on the other hand these channels are so keen to release Indian Movies under their banners. Furthermore if we ponder over our award ceremonies then the dance performances are mostly based on Indian songs. The lack of publicity of our own music from media houses is the reason why music industry went into slum.

hum indian film

In an utter disappointment I have to say that our celebrities are hypocrites who claims to be patriotic but in reality most of them are actually dying to work in Bollywood. I am not against Indian film Industry but our artists need to understand that we need to nurture our own industry at this moment. Sadly the upcoming Pakistani films are also following the trend of Bollywood films and I am noticing how vulgarity is slowly getting introduced in our own films. The introduction of item songs is one of the biggest reason. This is seriously a slow poison and in the end we will regret to what we are doing to our own Industry.

What do you have to say on this topic?

Are Our Dramas Getting Too Serious?

0

The week just started and like every other week I am looking forward to watching the “few dramas” I watch on weekly basis. I have to admit that there was a time when I completely stopped watching dramas primarily because nothing appealed to me anymore and I got addicted to Star world since one can’t do without television of course….well I can’t for sure!! Star world had some very entertaining shows to offer, some used to make me sad and lots more that cheered me up. When my kids were old enough to notice what I was watching on television and started asking questions, I decided that Star World wasn’t exactly a family channel and slowly started resorting to watching Pakistani drama channels. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that things had changed a great deal since the last time I watched a drama channel; there were a lot of good dramas on air and now I can’t do without my prime time shows in particular.

Most of the times I cannot watch dramas on television except for the weekends, because I need to get the kids in bed at that time. So, most often I catch the dramas online and since dramasonline most often uploads those plays that go on air in prime time so they are always the ones I get hooked to and look forward to every week. Watching these plays is my favorite pastime once my kids go to bed. Now lately, I have started feeling that watching these dramas is no longer light entertainment but it is very heavy duty indeed. There is hardly a drama during the week which is a light play with a good story that will prove to be engaging as well. Here is what I watch throughout the week, let me know if I am missing out on any dramas that will not make me sad for a change.

Rehai

I watch Rehaii on Mondays; there is no denying the fact that it is a very good play that conveys all the right messages. It does not only highlight the hardships faced by women in our society but also gives solutions. The acting by all the actors is super; it has been written very well and directed superbly also. For the past few weeks I was enjoying Rehaii because things were looking up for the oppressed women in the play but this week’s episode brought in more problems for them and I was yet again left feeling for them and all the other women like them in our society. Yes, the play made me sad; in fact I found it difficult to sleep after watching it!!

ullu baraye farokht naiApart from watching Rehaii on Monday, I am also hooked to Nanhii…I know double dose of sadness!! It is also one of those plays which I can’t seem to miss and I must catch up with it during the week if not on the same day. Nanhii is also the story of how women are exploited in our society and the problems faced by people who live in the downtrodden areas…not exactly light entertainment but very heavy-duty indeed.
I wasn’t watching any play in particular on Tuesdays before but when Ullu Barai Farokht Nahi started I was very tempted to find out what it had to offer. For now, the good performances and the sheer curiosity to find out what happens next make me watch it every week. Ullu Barai Farokht Nahi Is about the feudal system prevalent in the rural areas…very depressing indeed. It is dark and definitely a little scary, it takes you into a world of its own and most certainly gives you tons to think about *sigh*.

nnhi

No dramas for me on Wednesdays, I guess because all the heavy duty “entertainment” starting from Monday takes its toll on me and I need a break! I know I could just stop watching these plays but I cannot!! If I do not watch these dramas I feel like I am missing out. Sometimes on Wednesdays I catch up with telefilms or Kitni Girhi Baaki Hai and trust me it does not help!! I am not saying at all that these dramas are not worth watching, not at all; all the dramas that I mentioned till now and will mention later on are definitely worth my time but all I am saying is that there are way too many serious dramas that go on air all through the week and you cannot watch these drams with your mind switched off while you are watching them and even later on they stay with you. Even the telefilms are too serious and can sometimes haunt you for days.

mirat ul uroos

I watch on Thursdays Mirat-ul-Uroos and Silvatein. Mirat-ul-Uroos is not as dark and gloomy as the rest of the plays that I have mentioned till now but it also deals with a lot of social issues and there is no comic element in the play. The play is serious by all standards. Silvatein does not deal with social issues and the likes but the different tracks and characters are so complicated that you can’t actually watch it with a carefree state of mind. It is definitely a little less serious and sad then rest of the plays, so yes it is always good to have a dose of Silvatein after watching all the sad and serious dramas.

Fridays of course are Zindagi Gulzar Hai nights…but kiya wakihi Zindagi Gulzar Hai? A question many of my friends have asked so many times – thank you for the line guys:). Zindagi Gulzar Hai for many weeks was the show I used to look forward to more than any other and watching it proved to be a relaxing experience. It can be a light-hearted play if one watches it with zero expectations and does not try to make sense out of the happenings…tough job I know!!

Dil-e-Muzter on Saturday has managed to keep me entertained without any stress involved but it seems like there is going to be a lot of rona dhona in Dil-e-Muzter as well in the upcoming episodes. But yes definitely better than the rest of the lot.

I watch Hamsnheen on Saturdays and I have to say that even with a very clichéd storyline, it has managed to keep me entertained. The story isn’t comical or light-hearted of course but the fact that I don’t take it very seriously helps!

Which plays are you following nowadays? Are you tired of watching sorrowful dramas that leave you gloomy and upset? Do you think that we have excess of sad dramas nowadays? Would you like a couple of meaningless, light hearted dramas during the week which you can watch with your thinking button switched off? Dramas that do not have underlying larger than life messages but just entertain us…..Please feel free to share your views.

Are Looks More Important Than Talent?

0

There has been an ongoing discussion on this forum about who is underrated and who is overrated. Why is it that so many of the actors who are very talented are not given as much appreciation as they should be getting? Why is it that Fawad Khan’s plays manage to grab the attention of the viewers even if they are mediocre but a talented actor like Faisal Qureshi who has been in the industry for much more time does not get that much attention. Sure, he has a vey good standing in the industry but viewers do not wait for his plays or follow him like they follow Fawad Khan. Also, the producers and channels do not promote Faisal Qureshi or other talented actors the way they promote Fawad Khan.

fqfeature image

Similarly, a versatile actress like Sanam Baloch does not get the kind of attention that a newcomer like Mahira Khan or even Sanam Jung gets. Sanam Baloch is good looking no doubt but she is not stylish like Mahira Khan or Sanam Jung. Which makes me think that do looks count more than talent? Most people are very visual by nature, a face that appeals to them is more likely to get their attention even if the actor is not very talented. Our producers make the most of this weakness and try to groom boys and girl with good looks to work in the dramas.

sanam ahira

Most recent example is that of Kanza Wyne in the drama serial Numm. She has a very pretty face but she cannot act to save her life. Mostly people can easily see through the good looks and tell that she requires a lot practice before she can pass as a good actress. On the other hand, the newcomer Sanam Jung was an instant hit with the viewers because she is not just a pretty face. Same was the case with Arij Fatima as well, the audience accepted her immediately. Her acting has always been praised.

arij

There is no doubt that people like to see actors and actresses on screen who are good looking but the fact is that good looks without talent do not leave a very lasting impression on the viewers. Good looks may count a lot as far as modeling is concerned but when it comes to dramas, people look for talent. Artists who are blessed with good looks, style and talent clean sweep the ones who many not have the whole package. Good looks are an extra advantage but good looks without talent will not take an actor far.

Viewers also get more attracted to actors and actresses who are glamorous and have the X factor. It also depends on how hard an actor works to promote his image.

What is your opinion? Are some of our talented actors and actresses underrated because they are not stylish or glamorous enough? or is it because the channels and production houses do not promote them as much as they promote others?

Are Indian Films And Shows A Necessity In Pakistan??

After the border clashes between India and Pakistan and the ban on Pakistani celebrities in India, the Pakistani cinemas announced that they were not going to show Indian films to show support for their armed forces and country. The meek reply from the celebrities of Pakistan, especially those who have already worked in India proved that these celebrities put their careers in India ahead of their support for their country. While many celebrities in India were quick to support their armed forces and clearly stated that Pakistan really was harboring terrorists, all the Pakistani celebrities who have worked in India remained quiet.

The move from Pakistani cinemas to ban Indian films was the only big blow which proved that Pakistan too was in a position to ban Indian content. Soon after the ban few Pakistani celebrities like Shamoon Abbasi and Hamayun Saeed showed their discontent with this move. Shamoon Abbasi put up a status on facebook showing his disappointment with this ban. Hamayun Saeed said that Pakistani film industry was not producing enough films so Indian films were necessary for Pakistani cinemas to earn revenue. Even then the cinemas stayed trued to their promise, at least for some time, and decided to show Hollywood and Pakistani films, even those which were old so that those people who had missed these films could see and cinema houses will be doing business. There was no call for banning Indian shows on leading Pakistani TV channels, which was another disappointing development.

The shocking news is that all the promises made by these cinema houses cinemas could not be followed through. The film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which has been produced and directed by Karan Johar and stars Fawad Khan too but no one is sure whether Fawad Khan is still part of this film. Another film Shivvay will also be soon in cinema houses. Those people who think that Indian films are a necessity for Pakistani cinemas should also realize that banning Indian films in Pakistan will hurt India more than Pakistan. Sometimes there are certain situations when standing by your country comes before everything else but unfortunately financial concerns come first for some business people. Also, ARY is already showing the promos for Big Boss’ new season. PEMRA should have dealt with this situation wisely by putting a permanent ban on Indian films and Indian content so that the cinema houses and channels did not have a choice.

In a statement today Karan Johar said that he will not cast any Pakistani stars in his upcoming projects if the environment stays the same but no Pakistani star has said that they are not going to work in Indian films if the environment stays the same. He also said that he respects the Indian army and commended them for their efforts! It has become impossible for him to screen his film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in Indian cinema houses because of Fawad Khan’s presence in it.

Now the only hope are the people of Pakistan. If they refuse to buy a ticket for these Indian films and don’t tune into Indian content on television then that will be the best way to show support for their country and it will also give a loud and clear message to the cinema houses and channel owners that Pakistani cinema goers and television viewers can do without Indian films.
