Junaid Jamshed facing charges under blasphemy act

Two days ago a video got viral on social media where Junaid Jamshed was talking about a sacred personality of Islam. Soon afterwards Junaid Jamshed has apologized for the same video. Here is the apology from Junaid Jamshed.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2bigqd_6-junaid-jamshed_news?start=0

However Muhammad Mubeen Qadri who belongs to a religious political party Sunni Tehreek has launched an FIR against Junaid Jamshed under the clause 295C of Pakistan Penal Code.  The clause is commonly known as blasphemy act and it was implemented in 1980’s under the regime of General Ziaul Haque. Since implemented the clause is regularly termed as being misused against minorities and against Muslims as well.

Junaid Jamshed is currently not in Pakistan. In last week a session court in Gilgit Baltistan region sentenced 26 year prison to few media personalities under the same act including Veena Malik, Shaista Lodhi, Asad Khattat and Mir Shakeelur Rehman.

Chup Raho – Episode 14

I was expecting a lot more from tonight’s episode because of everything that happened in the last episode but unfortunately apart from ami jaan’s health nothing substantial happened tonight. It was just another day in the lives of all our characters. Rameen’s mother continued to ask her daughter to do things that were certain to get her into even more trouble. Rameen told her mother that Azar hit her because she was wearing lipstick and her mother tried to convince her that wearing that lipstick might just be the key to success!! Rameen also told her mother that Azar will only get even more angry if she went and sat on the table with him and Numair but her mother insisted that it was the right thing to do! I don’t blame Azar for thinking that his mother in law was a party to whatever was going on between Numair and Rameen because that actually is true!! The only reason why Azar suspected his wife of hiding things from him is because her own mother was standing guard while Numair and Rameen were alone in the room. Azar needs time to think things over and Numair’s brain washing is not going to be a big help because it is quite apparent that Azar is getting confused because of Numair’s confidence. The way Numair tackles every situation is remarkable! When he is in conversation with anyone at all he is totally in control. He is the one who starts the conversation and he decides when it ends.

FotorCreated1

Manal’s reaction to her mother’s condition and the whole situation was yet another shocking development in the story. Manal’s ” upur Allah hai aur neechay aap ” kind of faith in Numair obviously makes everything much easier from him. It is sad that he probably derives half of his strength from this trust that his wife has on him. I have always understood Manal’s state of mind but tonight when she decided to abandon her mother, I was very disappointed in her. But we know only too well who she takes after! Rameen seems to be the only intelligent person in the family but no one listens to her. The way Manal convinced Azar to stay was not the least bit believable – why would this woman care about Azar’s job when she couldn’t care less about her own mother? And why would Azar want to stay with Numair now that he knows what went on between him and his wife? Numair gave him the option of leaving the house but it appears to be that he is like Rameen’s mother too – he is only thinking of the present and how things can be easier for him.

FotorCreatedRameen’s dialogue “ap jaise door andaish logo ka yehi masla hai, pass ki musibatei nazar hi nahi ati” was spot on. It explains Rameen’s mother’s state of mind perfectly. Everyone blamed Rameen’s mother in some way or the other and rightly so too. I had a very tough time feeling for her. Some of the dialogues in tonight’s episode were misleading probably because they were added only to prolong some scenes. We have seen Rameen and Azar trying to leave the house a lot of times now and we have seen Azar being convinced into staying back a little too often too. Rameen unfortunately takes abuse of all sorts a little too lightly, tonight when Azar hit her there was hardly any focus on that as if it was perfectly normal for a husband to hit his wife like that! Isn’t she better off in a shelter home? She is surrounded by “relatives” who don’t trust her and abuse her in one way or the other on regular basis. Rameen is intelligent and strong enough to think on those lines, I really hope to see her trying to do something tangible to get out of her situation. The story it seems is going around in circles at the moment; something big happens and things return to the way they were soon enough! This episode definitely had some great performances to its credit by all the actors but I am especially impressed by Feroze Khan’s outstanding performance because he is doing exceptionally well for a newcomer although Azar’s character is quite tricky because it involves a lot of different emotions.

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

“Islam Is Being Used For Some People’s Personal Gains And Interests” – Veena Malik

0

After the passing of the sentence against Veena Malik and her husband along with the owner of Geo TV and the anchor of the Morning Show Shaista Wahidi the international media is taking keen interest in the issue. Almost all the leading international papers and channels have covered the issue of blasphemy. Veena Malik was asked her stance on the sentence, she clearly stated that her husband and she was innocent. Veena Malik also said that the content of the show wasn’t even blasphemous because the manqabat that was being played in the background is played very often in wedding functions, so much so that people are seen dancing and kissing while it plays in the background.

Untitled

Veena Malik said that there were some elements in the establishment which wanted to punish Geo for some things that happened in the past. According to her Islam has nothing to do with the sentence but this was a case of punishing the channel for something else. Veena Malik said that she had to leave Pakistan because she was pregnant and in the present scenario her baby was not safe in Pakistan. Veena Malik wants the people of Pakistan to stand up against this injustice so that people refrain from misusing religion for personal gains.

Watch the video of Veena’s talk with BBC here:

Interestingly, Veena Malik is the only person involved in the case who has been making public appearances. Other than her all the people involved are silent on the issue.

Auss, new drama by PTV Home

Pakistan television is the state run television network funded by tax payers money. Like other government run agencies financial condition of PTV is quite bad despite recieving billions in the name of PTV License Fee every year. Despite huge staff, equipment and buildings the news channels of PTV are worst when it comes to credibility. The production quality of PTV’s news and current affair programs is at lowest as well.
PTV Home is the most watched terrestrial channel in Pakistan and it is a family entertainment channel. Despite the largest channel it is not much active on social media and seldom bothers to promote its programs which could result in further revenue. Perhaps this overstaffed institution doesn’t have any staff member to look into this aspect. The official page of PTV Home is not updated since August 2014.

However the most valueable effort by PTV is its regional channels like PTV National, PTV Bolan and Azad Jammu Kashmir Television. Despite having a huge army of directors who are full time employee of PTV enjoying all the perks available in a government institution, PTV seldom produces its own entertainment content mainly drama and relies on private productions.

AUSS (اوس) is one such drama being aired from 1st December 2014. Written by Wasi Shah, Sania Saeed, Faisal Qureshi, Babar Ali, Zainab Qayoom, Shamoon Abbassi are in the lead roles while it is shot on scenic locations of Murree.

Aik Pal_ Episode 2

0

I thoroughly enjoyed the university scenes in today’s episode. Bareera and Omair’s first interaction was fun to watch . I have seen such conversations before and Arij’s makeup and dressing were OTT in that scene but it still captured my interest. Omair is completely rude and farigh, yet girls swoon over him and he satisfies his ego by treating them like scum. Danish Taimoor has nailed his character and him and Arij Fatima look amazing together.

ed

Musaf and Omair’s scenes were nicely executed. They looked unrealistic though. It’s unlikely for all the university students to unite against one guy just because he has a beard. Musaf has come across as a nice person who minds his own business. He walks away everytime Omair and company mistreats him but I would really like it when he finally speaks up for himself.

Noor Fatima’s cousins (Ali Safina) is the stereotype we see often. I honestly don’t want to see him anymore and let’s hope that Noor Fatima goes to the university in the nest episode so we are spared of her annoying cousin. Ali Safina is performing well though.

This drama will show what a man goes through when he has more than one wife. it is very easy to say that a man will be able to justify his second marriage but keeping the balance is impossible.”

Digest Writer – Episode 09!

Oh wow! I just love the timing of this play. The pace is absolutely brilliant & I think that’s the strength of this play as well. Just when I was feeling bad for Fareeda, I got to see something amazing that makes me want to watch the next episode RIGHT NOW. I absolutely love how every single episode is so engaging & is packed with so many little surprises that unfold at a perfect time & that makes this drama worth a watch & a lot more enjoyable. :)

Rida Anmol knows how to play with people & their feelings, that’s why she weaved a perfect trap for Fareeda to give in. As much as Rida wants to ignore the fact that Fareeda’s talented, she actually can’t & this is exactly why she tried to buy her way into her stardom again using a shortcut, that she is currently enjoying due to Fareeda’s hard work. It was pretty obvious that Fareeda wouldn’t agree to work for her but just the mention of a big amount made her family rethink their feelings that they had for Rida Anmol. It’s bitter but true that at times you really can’t do much but have to persuade yourself to do what others want even if it means leaving a dent on your soul. I am sure Fareeda’s family wouldn’t have cared much if Jameela’s wedding was out of the picture but it was obvious, with her wedding approaching, they found it as a right opportunity to convince Fareeda to take the deal that Rida offered.

I must say the thing which I enjoy the most is the growth they’ve shown in Fareeda’s character. Even though she is still the same day-dreamer who enjoys giving words to her feelings, but a few reality checks have compelled her to be more cautious & this is why she kept a firm hand in dealing with Rida because she knows as much as her family is depending on her, Rida Anmol is as well & that was enough of a satisfaction for Fareeda that she dealt with a conniving person like Rida in a language that she understands a little too well & also because Fareeda knows that she now can’t allow Rida to take her for granted just because Fareeda’s is unable to do anything about it.

I think as much as all the conversations are written beautifully, the best ones are between Fareeda & her Father. I love how Anwar time to time always lets Fareeda know how much he supports her but the way he extended his plea in front of his daughter this time around really made me feel for him. He is helpless & even though he feels guilty, he knows he has to think past of it because Fareeda is the only one who could help him in the hour of need. As much as Anwar doesn’t want to burden his daughter with the things he is responsible to be taking care of, he still feels Fareeda is his strong support whom he can rely fearlessly upon & that makes their relation very real & beautiful at the same time.

Obviously, it was because of her family that Fareeda accepted the offer but to see her regretting putting the price on her imagination was genuinely heartrending. Fareeda hates to see this side of the reality where she was forced to sell her imaginary world just to fulfil the obligations of the real world that she lives in. Fareeda was shattered because even though everyone around her knew what her writing meant to her, they chose to overlook the fact that her skill was being exploited but like she said, she survives in such a world where people walk over others to reach the sky & all she could do was stay quiet without protesting because she was not in a position to do that & unfortunately, she wasn’t even allowed to do so.

I really think Shehryar is a dreamer too & I found him deluded this time around. As much as I appreciate his presence in Fareeda’s life & the way he values her, I think he really has set certain standards which he will never compromise upon. I think this is Shehryar’s fault where he is evaluating Fareeda on the basis of her words because the fact is; everyone knows that fiction is a result of someone’s imagination & not reality, so this makes me question Sheheryar’s take on Fareeda where he actually thinks that Fareeda has laid bare her real life in her stories. As much as he is getting carried away with the thought of having a partner like Fareeda, he should take a step back & allow her to reveal her reality to him.

Oh & yes, finally, Ayaan Junaid has made an appearance in Fareeda’s life & at such a perfect time which actually justifies the notion of never losing hope because you never really know what’s in store for you. Surprisingly, Fareeda didn’t have to say much to him because Ayaan already knew what Rida Anmol has transpired against Fareeda & the way she was using her once again. I don’t know what might happen in the future but he actually seemed sincere & honest while offering her to write for him right now & I really think, this was much needed after seeing Fareeda’s dismay in the last couple of episodes. I think good times are rolling for Fareeda now & I can’t wait to see more.

Yes, last but not the least I must say I love the way they’ve given a face to each & every character because it really makes them look real. I love how they’ve worked on the image of all the characters which tell a story of its own about each one of them. How Rida Anmol’s sharp eyebrows & coloured lens shed a light on her cunning & the dominant negative side of her nature. How Shaukat’s greasy messy hair shows his least bothered attitude in life. How Anwar’s taqiyah (Islamic cap) make him look like a responsible & a soft hearted father of 3 daughters. How some white strands of Zareena peeking through her shawl & her raw clean face tell a tale of her worries that she has in regards to her daughters. I don’t know how much of it makes sense but this is the way I see their images representing them, which I absolutely think is praise-worthy & for that I really appreciate the team that has worked on the appearances of the cast. So, this is it from my side for this week, do share your thoughts about this episode of Digest Writer, please. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Tonite With HSY- (Vaneeza Ahmed Ali & Deepak Perwani)- Episode 10

0

Tonight’s episode brought together three icons of Pakistani fashion- HSY, Vaneeza Ahmed and Deepak Perwani. Vaneeza has always struck me as an intelligent woman coupled with elegance. She refers to herself as a business owner. She has been the face of Vlawn for many years and is moving to opening up her own outlet. She stated style as being subjective- she draws inspiration from various cultures and thinks it is constantly evolving. Motherhood has transformed her life completely and her baby Inayah has helped her reevaluate her priorities. Vaneeza spoke about her husband Ali, and how she had known him for 18 years but it was facebook that brought them together in the end. In retrospect, she stated that she might not have taken up certain projects but she feels there is more to come. However, she made her stand very clear that she would never do an item number- especially since she wants to become a role model for her daughter. Speaking about the current generation, Vaneeza stated that there is extreme jealousy and competition nowadays and botox and cosmetic surgery has taken over.

Deepak Perwani, one of the leading designers in Pakistan was recently awarded as the 6th biggest brand in the world. In his own words, Deepak stated that he is obnoxious and insane- a complete control-freak, he exercises control on all elements of the designing process. He works with only two assistants because he strongly believes that too many ideas can ruin a good thing. He loathes stupidity and procrastination. He feels criticism shouldn’t come from someone who doesn’t know the art of designing but in the same breath he added that he is too big to discuss names. Vaneeza took the liberty of asking both Sheru and Deepak why they design short outfits that are not the norm in Pakistan. Deepak stated that his clientele is such and if he were to design more conservatively, he would be termed as designing bhehenji waley kaprey. I liked Vaneeza’s retort- business toh bhehenji se hi araha hai.

safe_image

As far as social media is concerned, Vaneeza avoids it completely- she likes keeping her life private. Deepak is on twitter and facebook but he added that he doesn’t like how social media has replaced traditional media and human interaction. Both of them said they took up acting because they were bored of doing the same thing. Vaneeza added that modelling requires one to hold a single expression whereas acting allows you to take on a variety of roles/ expressions and emotions. Deepak said that acting therapeutic. Both the guests stated that the models currently aren’t maintaining the standards seen earlier- na shakal achi hai, height ka issue hai, models hi nahin hain…

Finally, it was time for the contests. Love or Don’t Love had each guest answering to all 10 pics- I don’t see the point of bringing up politicians though. I think it serves no purpose and no one wants to know their political affiliation or lack thereof. Ajnabee Kaun Ho Tum had Nadia Hussain calling in for Deepak and Adnan Siddiqui calling in for Vaneeza. Neither could guess the callers so they were tied going into the third and final round. The Q & A round had Vaneeza answering more of her questions to ultimately win the Rs. 50,000 Contradictions voucher. I have said it before and I will say it again, the guests couldn’t care less about the prize- the contests are a waste of time and no one ever seems genuinely interested to play. Other than that, it was a fairly okay episode. What did you think?

Yours in watching,

Kanwal Murtaza

Goya- Episode 3 Review

Confession. Contemplation. Commitment. Omar and Mohini have come a long way in a short span of time. Omar enjoys spending time with Mohini and felt it was important for her to know why he is the way he is- Mujhe bachpan se kuttay ki tarhan treat kiya gaya hai- just like a trained dog! The otherwise awkward Omar is completely at ease with Mohini. She brings out a different side to him- one which he has never had the chance to fully explore. Upon finding out that Mohini is missing following a bomb blast, Omar’s panic is paramount and he immediately rushes to find Asma. I liked the way he brought her home and seemed apologetic over making her a not-so-great cup of chai– Mein Mrs. Imtiyaaz se puchon ga unhoney kabhi mujhe chai banana kyun nahin sikhayi… In between phone calls to ensure his cover isn’t blown, he manages to locate Mohini- a little bruised but still as delightful as ever.

go

The conversation on the way home was playful and one of the highlights of this episode. I liked the hidden subtext while they were discussing her car- Agar zabaan hoti toh zaroor shikayat karti. Omar feels trapped even though he isn’t bezubaan- yet, he has been conditioned to a life of obedience. On the surface, he has everything, but really, what does a man have if you take away his choice? Our choices make us who we are- right or wrong, they are ours. Omar has dared to choose Mohini for himself- but this is a choice he is afraid of expressing- not just out of fear of  The Undertaker, but the fear of falling short in the eyes of Mohini. He is in awe of her independence, her ambitions, her focus. Omar lacks all three. Ali tries to distract him from his whimsical thoughts and reminds him how highly unlikely their union would be.

Rahat Hashmi and Saleem Sahab are wasting no time with the wedding arrangements. But does Saleem Sahab have something up his sleeve? I was curious to know why he’s in a rush to transfer his business over to Omar and Rahat before the wedding takes place. His admission of his son Junaid being zehni taur pe slow came as a surprise. What is really going on in his mind? It seems Junaid and Omar are more alike than they realize. Hamarey zindagi ke faislay inkay finance managers kartey hein! Zara is not exactly overjoyed at the prospect of being married either- I don’t know if it’s cold feet, but something tells me there’s more to Zara than meets the eye.

safe_image.php

Asma senses that Mohini is falling for Omar but she cautions her to nip it in the bud. Mohini is smart enough to know that her mother is right- she understands that there’s more to a relationship than secretly sneaking out for lunches. As much as she likes Omar, she knows he lives in perpetual fear of his father and this relationship would only complicate his life further. Omar was clearly offended with the rejection but doesn’t let it show on his face- A good dinner should compensate for a spoilt lunch! The highlights of this episode were the scenes between Omar and Mohini- these two are flawless together. I wish we could see more of Ali though. Seeing Zara today, I have high hopes that her character won’t disappoint- fingers crossed. This Nomi guy is worrying me- there are too many complications already, I wouldn’t want another obstacle in the way of Omar and Mohini. While Ali provides the comic relief that is essential in Omar’s life, Mrs. Imtiyaaz helps keep him grounded. Let’s see if they stand by him when he decides to take the plunge and pursue Mohini. Since I watch the episodes online, the lighting remains to be an issue for me. Is anyone else experiencing the same? Or is it meant to be that way? What are your thoughts?

Yours in watching,

Firaaq – Episode 13

0

The developments in tonight’s episode of Firaaq were definitely very unexpected and interesting as well. I am sure that many viewers like me were expecting Roomi and Paymaan to get married in this episode which no doubt would have been a very unconvincing twist in the story. Roomi never loved Paymaan, if this marriage took place it would have been because of external influence than anything else. I am pleasantly surprised at the turn the story has taken, Tabbasum’s death was predictable after watching the preview of this episode last week but the way her death was covered was another pleasant surprise. The fact that most part of tonight’s episode focused on Tabbasum was most certainly the right thing to do since Tabbasum’s character has been the highlight of this drama and Uzma Gillani was absolutely brilliant right till the end. Tabbasum’s conversations with everyone in the family including Roomi wrapped up her track beautifully. Tabbasum made sure that Haider knew just how special he was, she apologized to Paymaan once again and asked her not to repeat the mistake she had made. The fact that these scenes were not over dramatic yet very touching made them a treat to watch. The void that Tabbasum left in Haider and Paymaan’s life was apparent from their body language and conversations but there was no excessive rona dhona which was great.

FotorCreated

Roomi decided to tell Paymaan the truth (finally!), which was another convincing development in the story. It would have been very unbelievable if he kept this secret to himself. We have been very confused about the timeline till now, it was nice to hear Sara clear that confusion! Imroze left Paymaan seven months back and Roomi talked to him five months back and then too he called to say goodbye. After finding out the truth Paymaan’s sole purpose in life is to find out what happened to Imroze. Sara’s obsession with getting Roomi and Paymaan married is still beyond me! Once again Sara focused all her energies on ensuring that these two end up together and refused to believe anything that Roomi said. I am glad that Roomi turned out to be smart and did not fulfill the dying wish of a friend without giving it a second thought.

It looks like Paymaan’s life in Karachi is going to be the main focus of the story from now on. The question whether Imroze has divorced Paymaan or not is still a mystery because when Paymaan was leaving for Pakistan Sara said to her that even if she finds Imroze there was no relationship between them anymore so there was no point in going there looking for him but in the preview of the next episode Paymaan said that she felt like a widow!

FotorCreated

I must say that Paymaan’s character is much more likeable and lively now that Imroze is out of her life and she has a new purpose in life. I felt for Haider more than anyone else while watching this episode. Overall, this was a pretty good episode which I am sure gave many viewers a reason to look forward to more. Is Imroze dead? If he isn’t then why didn’t he ever get in touch with Paymaan? A lot of questions need to be answered, I hope that the next episode is just as entertaining as this one and the story keeps on moving forward at this pace. I also hope that the mystery unravels in a way that is believable.

Jackson Heights – Episode 11!

Oh ohkay, so finally after a long long time I had a good time watching Jackson Heights because this episode had a lot such things that I wanted to see in this drama. I’m pleasantly surprised & I hope we; the viewers keep on getting such nice surprises till the drama lasts.

Even though the scene between Salma & Sikandar was done well, I still knew he was putting up an act because it had Fake written all over Sikandar, haha. We all know he’s a con-man & he’s helpless when it comes to being himself, which is being a conniving person who only thinks of himself. Sikandar obviously made the wrong move at a wrong time because he wanted to ask for a favor from Salma afterwards but he knew that now he has hurt her, the best way was to touch her feet & make her an omelette because Salma is gullible. As much as I give full points to Sikandar for being a clever person, I am still having a hard time feeling anything for Salma because she has allowed all this to happen to her; herself. I think the span of 12 years is a good time to understand a person in & out but to hear her say time & again that she is ready to give her husband a chance to change is nothing but a portrayal of her weakness. I completely agree with Aliya on this that all those argumentative logics Salma tries to present in order to defend her husband & her situation are irrational.

So, the Gabru Birthday ‘BOY’ Bhatti Sahab, who carried 2 phussofied worn out balloons & had a hard time sitting at the wooden bench for 6 hours was throwing a tantrum at Salma for not showing up, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Bhatti obviously was in a bad mood not because he was hurt, but because he didn’t like the fact that Salma backed out on the plan, which seriously tells that he has started to feel for her a lot more than he realizes for now & the same goes for Salma who only thought of earning Bhatti’s apology even if it meant standing in the middle of a footpath. I actually really like these two characters when they are together & finally we had some good moments that they both shared. I definitely think they both have a soft corner & a lot of respect & liking for each other which they’ll be able to explore once they both are out from the misery they deal within their lives.

For the first time I enjoyed the conversations of Jamshed & Michelle as well, because they spoke on the emotional lines. Who would’ve thought that as much as Jamshed seems immature, he isn’t. No one would’ve thought that losing his parents at such a young age actually taught him some serious lessons in life. May be his indifferent & least-bothered attitude was more like a cover & a facade that he carried. May be it was more like a defence mechanism in order to protect himself from his Uncle & his wife. For the first time I actually felt for Jamshed a lot & yes, it was good to see Michelle being easy on herself & the people around her too. The credit for this obviously goes to Jamshed but I still want to know how can a person in such a short span of time have such an impact on a rigid person like Michelle, whereas Rizwan has been trying his luck since ages? May be Rizwan only saw her from the surface but Jamshed has been able to decode her personality & this is what has impressed Michelle the most? Chalo, for a change it’s good to see that Michelle is allowing someone to steer the wheel for her whereas she has taken a back seat & is allowing the change to happen as she herself is enjoying it.

It was a good episode & the preview gave me a good reason to look forward to the next episode. Let’s see what they have in store for us. & is it just me or Jamshed actually referred to him as ’20 saal ka larka’. I really didn’t know he was so young obviously because he doesn’t look like that. Share your say please!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Sadqay Tumhare – Episode 8

This episode was picture perfect; I love the filmy and the romantic element of this play. This play reminds me of all the beautiful love stories I have ever seen and watching such a story unfold on your TV screen every week is nothing short of a dream come true. The love between Shano and Khalil is very fairytale like but at the same time I never have trouble feeling for them or connecting to what they are going through. Mahira Khan and Adnan Malik have done complete justice to their characters by bringing out the best in them. Tonight’s episode opened with Shano’s wit and ended with our hero proving a point or two to Fayyaz.

The power of love makes you do things which you normally won’t. Khalil wants Shano in his life at any cost even if that means getting himself killed. After watching the preview of this episode last week I thought that maulvi sahab was going to save Khalil but when the tables turned it was nice to see that Fayyaz was the one who needed saving. Shano’s love has made Khalil even more fearless than he was before and same is true for Shano. Both of these characters have a very big personality and that is what I love about both Shano and Khalil. There is more to them than their love story alone. They are both very interesting people who you enjoy watching on screen and when the two share screen space nothing can come between the chemistry that they share.

Untitled

Every single scene in this episode made you look forward to more. I have always liked the fact that although there is a lot of talking in this play but the scenes are usually short and to the point. You move to the next scene before getting bored with the first one. Irfan Khoosat’s character’s love for Khalil and the reason behind it went to show that Shano is loved by everyone around her. Shano’s parents however are so blinded by what they want that their daughters happiness does not matter to them. The way the tangay wala informed Khalil about all of Fayyaz’s friend was very amusing. I love the simplicity with which the dialogues have been written, the conversations always come across as real.

7

Shano prayed for Khalil but at the same time she was prepared to die if something happened to him. Khalil and Shano both do not want to live unless it is with each other. How often do we get to see such beautiful love stories on screen? All we see are complicated love triangles in which the focus is more on the complications than love itself. In Sadqay Tumhare as well there are a lot of complications but somehow I never feel like the director or the writer is losing focus. At the end of every episode I feel like I saw enough of Shano and Khalil both and their feelings are given the utmost attention. Side tracks usually add more flavor to the story but in this case I don’t mind a single track story.

Untitled

The fight scene was directed brilliantly, it was filmy to the core and I loved every second of it. Rain was the perfect addition to the scene. Rasheeda had no idea how much Khalil had beaten Fayyaz when she was worrying sick about him! Khalil’s reaction when Shano says to him, “maar kha ke aye ho” clearly meant nahi maar khila ke aya hu!!

This was another one of those episodes of Sadqay Tumhare which you want to watch over and over again. Every scene added something to the story and all the conversations were beautifully penned down. All the actors performed brilliantly as usual and this time around it is very difficult to say who the star of the show was because tonight all the actors kept me hooked to my television screen because of their outstanding performances. Hats off to the director for giving us another flawless episode and a big thank you to Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar for a beautiful love story.

What you don’t know about TV Script Writing

0

We love watching dramas and discussing them it is one of our favourite past times here in Pakistan. While discussing a drama, writer comes under severe scrutiny of the reviewers/general audiences. However, not much is known about the actual script writing process and its translation to on-screen images.Being a small time writer myself let me apprise you about how it goes in the land of TV Script Writing.

Generally what happens is that once a writer comes up with a concept or one-liner as it is called in the TV World,he/she has the option of either pitching it directly to channels or production houses.Even if a writer pitches it to a production house it will ultimately go to a channel’s script department who has the power of accepting or rejecting any one-liner or asking for modifications in the one-liner.Many times first two sample episodes would be required along with the one-liner in order for it to be approved by the channel script department.Once a one-liner is approved the writer would be asked to start penning the episodes. The episodes would again be sent to channel’s script department who would keep on asking the writer to make changes in it.

Once this entire process of scripting, drafting and re-drafting is complete,a director is chosen to head the project.the director would now ask the writer to make changes in the script once again as per his/her vision or requirement. After the director is satisfied, now actors would be cast and shooting would begun but once again the actors/actresses would refuse to do certain scenes/speak certain lines as per their whims and wishes so here again the script changes not to forget that on-shoot the director is on liberty to change any scene as per his wish or not shoot a particular scene while scenes linked to this scene not being shot remains resulting in continuity gap in finished product.

So in essence what you finally see you screen is not essentially what the script writer wrote or wanted but the audiences and reviewers end up cursing and blaming the poor writer that what mess he/she has created while it could be the fault of channel script department/director/actors/editor.I myself once wrote a play where the heroine leaves her husband at the end as she had compatibility issues with him but in the final version I saw the heroine joyously leaving on her husband’s bike and i was left scratching my head.

Off course established writers have more control over their content and channel script department/directors/actors remain wary of messing with their content else a backlash starts remember the closeness scene between Saba & Adnan in Maat or the infamous dialogue haya aur behayee dekhnay walay kee ankh mein hotee hai from Shehr-e-Zaat.But established or not established, all writers have to go through this drafting and re-drafting process.

Channels buy completely shot and finished dramas from production houses as well but these are rare cases.Hope you understand the process now and think before you put the entire blame on the writer the next time round.

“I Want People To Dance Because Dance Is The Best Way Of Expressing Your Emotions ” – Mehwish Hayat

0

Mehwish Hayat’s dance numbers have become very popular over the years not just because of her item number in Na Maloom Afraad but also because all the major award shows are incomplete without Mehwish Hayat’s dance performance. While talking about her passion for dance in the show “Tonite With HSY” Mehwish Hayat said that she did not get a formal dance training from anywhere because there aren’t any dance schools in Pakistan and for this reason she really wants to open a dance school one day.

1

“I want people to dance because dance is the best way of expressing your emotions. There are people who hold back and I want them to dance and experience this amazing feeling you feel when you dance,” said Mehwish Hayat while talking to HSY. Mehwish also said that she is always very confident before a dance performance. The applaud from the audience is the driving force during a dance performance for Mehwish.

2

Mehwish Hayat also shared that some of the seniors she really idealized let her down by putting her down when she worked with them. Mehwish Hayat rejoices every second of fame and recognition and is happy with where she is standing right now.

I joined the Police, but it was a very predictable future, I left the force to do what I wanted to do _ Hamza Ali Abbasi

0

This interview has been taken from “My Pink Mag”.

Pink: Rumor has it you’ve studied direction from the US?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: I actually haven’t! I did Bachelors in International Relations from abroad. I came back to Pakistan and did my Masters from Quaid-e-Azam University, and then took the CSS exams and went into the Police force.

Pink: Was becoming an actor your childhood dream?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: To be honest, I wanted to become a chef. I have a passion for cooking; it’s one of my stress-relieving activities. After completing my studies I joined the Police, but it was a very predictable future. I knew exactly where I would be in 20 years; I knew the maximum I could do was become an IG. There would be nowhere else to go from there. My father taught me that whatever you enjoy, you should try to make a living out of that, then life becomes much easier. So I left the force to do what I wanted to do.

Pink: Tell us about your big break as an actor.

Hamza Ali Abbasi: I’d say it was “Waar”. I was assisting Bilal Lashari, and I wound up playing a role. That became my big break – it didn’t start out that way, it just ended up being that. Then there was a short film released around the same time called “Glorious Resolve” in which I played a militant guy, and it won an award at the Rome Film Festival.

Pink: What about theatre?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: Theatre is my first love. It started out as a hobby; I was doing my Masters when I met Shah Sharabeel. We became friends, he said, “Why don’t you do a play?” So it started out as a part-time hobby and then I became passionate about it. I think theatre helped me realize how much I enjoyed acting.

Pink: What is the silliest thing about working in show business?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: I think it would be that most people in showbiz are very pretentious. I consider very few of us to be stars; Shan, for example, is a star. Ali Zafar is a star. They’ve done things that matter on an international scale. 90% of us are not stars, but unfortunately, people become stars very quickly in their own minds. They begin to think the world revolves around them, which isn’t a very healthy thought process and it creates problems. There was a film I was making and during it we had huge problems with young kids who thought they were on top of the world. There are people who act as though if they sneeze, the whole world will be affected by it, and that is silly.

Another silly thing is how flashy you’re expected to be; to wear certain things, act a certain way. I’m a very low-key person; I wear Bata shoes. I believe that if you want to look good, you can look good in the most ordinary of clothes.

Pink: What’s it like watching your plays and movies with your family and friends?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: I have just one sister and she loves my shows. She’s my biggest fan! I watched one episode with her and all through it she was like, “You did this very well, and that so well! Tum to chhaa gaey!” My mum, meanwhile, is from a political background, and she’s very against me being in show business. She wanted me to be in the Police; she said, “Just join and then if you want you can leave.” She occasionally watches my television dramas, and then she despairs about what I’m doing with my life.

Pink: How do people react when you tell them you’re a Pakistani filmmaker?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: The first thing they say is “Oh, ok. So what do you actually do? What’s your day job?” I think I look reasonably educated so they don’t assume I make the typical Lollywood films, but they don’t expect that filmmaking is something you can do fulltime. They consider it a hobby; they have no idea how all-consuming it is.

Pink: Plus, it’s not financially viable, is it?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: That’s true, and I’m blessed that I have the option of not having to worry about that. I feel it’s a responsibility for people like us, who can sacrifice financially, to help build an industry where people can eventually make a living. Bilal Lashari, for example, doesn’t do it for money.

A lot of people making films today aren’t doing it for money. There are no financial rewards, but because of their efforts, ten years down the line Pakistani films may become a livelihood for a lot of people.

Pink: Would you ever do a masala film with the singing and dancing and running around trees?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: Yes, I would. As long as there is a lot of entertainment and the script is good. As for singing and dancing, there are two ways to go about it; either a very nice way, or an all-out Lollywood way.

Pink: Would you ever do a Bollywood film?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: I would… (sounding VERY reluctant), I’ve got a few offers, but my first priority is Pakistani films. Getting into films was never about being a star or being famous. All I’d have to do is continue acting in TV plays and I’ll be 20 times more famous. I like acting, I want to be an actor, but I want to be an actor with a purpose for the Pakistani film industry. I want the Pakistani film industry to BE something, that’s why I’ll work wherever I’m needed, behind the camera, before it – I did a very small role in Humayun Saeed’s movie – I’d even be just an extra.

(At this point Hamza receives news that a pigeon has died. It was supposed to be used in a scene he’s working on, and it has now died. We offer condolences.)

Pink: Can you sing?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: I can play guitar very well. I taught myself how to play through Youtube videos. And usually when you’re playing guitar some friend will always say, “Sing that song, man,” so you end up singing a few lines anyway. I’m not good, I’m not bad. I’m somewhere in between.

Pink: What’s it like to be approached by fans?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: Recently I’ve noticed a lot more people just coming up and telling me how much they enjoyed watching such-and-such show of mine, and it feels surprising, and really good. Friends from outside the showbiz circle find it very amusing. They laugh at me when that happens.

Pink: Have you ever had a fan encounter which left you reeling and thinking, “What just happened”?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: Yes! I was going to Dubai recently and I was given a free upgrade to business class. Then the immigration guy whisked me through immigration with a lot of protocol. I went to a restaurant where the manager was half-Arab and half-Pakistani, very mature, Oxford-educated, and he told me how much he enjoyed “Pyaray Afzal”. I was surprised that he watched it, and he goes, “Yeah! I love that show!”

Pink: What is a dream vacation for you?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: To be in my room, on my couch, watching the History Channel (we mishear it as the Disney Channel, to which Hamza laughs and says, “I’m unconventional, but not THAT much!”). Nowhere to go, nothing to do – that would be a vacation.

Pink: What is the strangest thing about you?

Hamza Ali Abbasi: One thing I never do, and which I absolutely hate, is lying. Do all the bad things you want to do in the world, but don’t lie. This is what I believe, and you know what people tell me? “You look like a complete liar!” And it just leaves me stumped. Why do I look like a liar? How can I look like a liar? I hate lying!

Pink: The most valuable piece of advice you’ve received…

Hamza Ali Abbasi: From my father, who passed away 4-5 years ago. He told me to work hard with pure intentions and leave success and failure to God. If He gives you success, be thankful; if He gives you failure, be content and work harder next time!

Chup Raho – Episode 13

Aise such ka kya faida jis se ghur tootey aur yahan tu meri du du bachiyon ke ghur barbaad ho rahe thay…Rameen’s mother once again gets full marks for letting her daughter down and ruining her life single-handedly without even giving it a second thought! I thought I had seen everything but Chup Raho never ceases to shock you! Rameen’s mother asked Numair to hold her daughter when she was “having a fit” …. how could she do that?? How could she ask the man who raped her daughter to even touch her under any circumstances at all? Rameen’s mother is so focused on making sure that Numair and Azar don’t leave her daughters that she has forgotten completely that it is not easy for Rameen to move on especially now when she knows that there is no hope for her. I must give Samira fazal due credit for penning down the mother-daughter conversation perfectly but I must say that the screen-play could have been far more convincing.

How could Rameen’s mother allow Numair to be with her daughter in the room like that? Yes, she was helpless but that was before Azar came, she could have knocked on the door and said that Azar was there after he left! Just standing there and giving this man the perfect opportunity to rape Rameen again was beyond ridiculous. Like I said she is focusing on something entirely different, she wants Rameen to forget the whole thing like it was a bad dream while she is living with Numair under the same roof! She is not even trying to convince Azar to move out of the house because Rameen needs a different environment. She can easily do that without telling him the truth. There are many possible solutions to the problems that Rameen is facing especially now that her mother is around. Now only if her mother will use her brain to get her daughter out of this situation rather than forcing her to stay in it and pretending as if all is hunky-dory.

Untitled

When Numair slapped Rameen and no one reacted I was in shock and yes I had to watch that scene twice because I had a tough time believing my eyes – did that just happen?? was my first reaction! No one questioned Numair, not even Rameen’s mother. I think the slap was totally unnecessary, the whole scenario is ugly enough as it is. I felt for Rameen every step of the way while watching tonight’s episode, this girl has been violated over and over again in the worst way possible. She does not expect anything from anyone now except her God because when your own mother fails to protect you then you have no reason to have faith in any other relationship.

I felt like Azar started having second thoughts about the entire situation when he saw Numair’s reaction to Naila’s reference. The director made the viewers looks forward to the confrontation between Numair and Azar which wasn’t even going to take place – wise move I would say! The scene reminded me of Bari Apa, we were dodged by the writer/director many times like this! It remains to be seen what Azar is going to do. I am surprised that given the circumstances all these people are still living in the same house. If Azar chooses the more practical route then he has the option of moving out without getting into a confrontation with Numair but that is not going to be easy for him.

I must say that this episode belonged to Sajjal Ali, she owned her character every step of the way. Her expressions and dialogue delivery was perfect in every scene. In fact all the actors always give their best performances. Feroze Khan, I am certain has a very bright future ahead of him.

This episode definitely gave the viewers a reason to look forward to more, I am sure many of us are waiting to find out how Azar reacts in the upcoming episode but I am sure many viewers who wanted to see the confrontation between Numair and Azar must have been disappointed as well. My favorite part of this episode had to be everything that Rameen had to say to her mother and the change in Rameen’s character. Like I said before Azar could have found out the truth in a much more convincing way. I would have liked it more if he overheard Numair talking to Rameen’s mother as opposed to the present scenario. However, I appreciate the fact that the writer Samira Fazal does not bank on eavesdropping the way she used to.

What do you think Azar will do next? Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Shanakht – Episode 15!

0

Ohkay so, it was more like a filler episode where the focus was on Hashim, his family & his troubles, but nevertheless I enjoyed watching it because it offered a lot of good moments of Annie & Rohaan plus obviously because it’s Shanakht we’re talking about. :)

I think the whole scenario of Hashim working with Annie & Rohaan was positive in a way that he got an insight into their relation by being with them. Throughout Hashim has only gotten a chance to see how Annie & Rohaan treat each other & how Annie maintains a balance between her personal & professional life while having Rohaan by her side. Fortunately, I didn’t get any such signal this time around that Hashim was getting impressed by Annie for some other reasons but he was only judging her as someone’s wife who’s a very wise & good person. However, I really didn’t get why of all the people, Hashim felt it was his responsibility to judge Annie & let her know that what she was doing wasn’t the right thing to do. Instead of worrying about others, it would be best for Hashim if he pays heed to his own issues. I think as much as Hashim dislikes whenever Shireen draws a comparison between Annie & Faryaal, unwillingly & unconsciously he’s doing the same thing because he just can’t stop thinking about how Annie treats Rohaan with respect & how she takes care of her husband whenever he sees Faryaal being herself.

Once again I’d say that Shireen’s being unreasonable. When Faryaal was at home, she was unhappy about it & now when Faryaal has decided to do something for herself, Shireen’s still unhappy. I feel Shireen also needs to come out of her fixation of Annie because be that as it may she’s happily married. Instead of wondering about how Annie would’ve taken care of her household & her useless son Hashim, Shireen should now work on herself & her DIL to make things right. I don’t know why but I kind of felt bad for Hashim when he showed up at office all disoriented because Shireen & Faryaal really don’t understand that all this is taking a toll on him too.

I really didn’t also get Hashim’s way of telling Faryaal about the certain set of rules of his family & his mother. Supposedly, he thinks he’s the son, therefore his mother will ignore all that he does but Faryaal has to take care of everything & everyone on his behalf. Well, there’s news for you Hashim, things don’t role that way. I totally agree with Faryaal’s statement that untill Hashim starts taking care of his family, she won’t do that too because it’s his responsibility first & not hers. I still don’t find her wrong, & even before blaming Shireen, I think Hashim’s at fault big time & then comes Shireen who thinks it’s ohkay to allow her son to walk all over her but she wouldn’t allow her DIL to even breathe freely.

& yes, I’d request the writer & the director to stop making Rohaan travel all the time because every time he speaks about travelling or about the flights he has to catch, I get a panic attack LOL! So, please for the sake of viewers who love the pair of Annie & Rohaan, just let him stick to his office & home. No more business meetings pleaseee!!! :)

I absolutely loved the answers Annie gave to nosy Hashim, because he really needed to stop at that. I loved the way they’ve shown that Annie doesn’t allow nor does she tolerate any opinion of anyone if it concerns her husband or her relation with him. Over all, it was a pretty decent episode, but I am really getting tired of non-issues of Shireen especially. Hashim & Faryal’s track is still ohkay & I liked seeing how Hashim is getting to know Annie & Rohaan more as a couple & I wish that soon he realizes his responsibilities as a son & a husband which will help him in shaping his life a lot. Share your thoughts please. :)
