Shamoon Abbasi was a guest on Noman Ijaz’s G Sarkar where he opened up about his personal life. He revealed that he is an Italian citizen and shifted back to Pakistan after his parents got divorced. He said that he was very close with his dad and shifted to Pakistan with him to help him restart his life. He said that he was not privy to his religion, culture or language and he learnt everything after moving back to Pakistan.

I don’t need to tell what I did for my family. We were responsible for each other. Then came a time when someone didn’t want to be with me, and we went apart. I was never a part from my daughter; we were always nearby. I was living in Pakistan, not abroad. I started noticing distance at a point. There were no birthday wishes, no New Year wishes, there was no response—especially from a kid who has a mobile all the time. Also about finances—do I need to show bills of whatever I did for her? I started noticing differences. Me and Anzela were never on bad terms, but the distance became strange. Then I spotted personality changes in her which shook me. I didn’t want to hear anything bad about my daughter, especially living in this cruel industry. For me, my daughter’s changed perspective towards life became disturbing, after which I distanced myself from her. There was never a disconnect between us; that was a big lie.”

He further added, “Maybe we could have a heart to heart conversation on few things, and talk like friends, but the things were turned so dark for me from the other side that it became so difficult for me to enter their space. I didn’t attend her wedding because of an accident, I had surgery for three days. I had a conversation with my daughter to which she was okay but it became a fuss on the internet”

Shamoon Abbasi also said, “They are both living a better life than me. They travel and are doing great, they can afford everything, so there is no argument left for me. Also, it makes me happy. I pray for their peaceful life, but my advice to them is to stop discussing me. It takes away from their professional achievements. I pray that they understand this as well.”

He also said, “I am against people discussing their lives deeply on podcasts. I mean things should be kept private. I don’t want myself to be portrayed as a villain, so I have to respond to the accusations that were hurled at me. To clarify things is my right. I am not going to run away from the hard questions.”

I had to show a vintage feel to it like Lord of the Rings. We had to show cute people, but all of them are frowning. Arsalan is super slow in dialogue delivery; he’s so lazy when he talks. He has ruined the script — he was supposed to be in a rush because he was the man who had anxiety, he just wanted these months in Haweli to pass. I wanted Syed Jibran as the elder brother, who was a stylish corporate man and Wahaj as a rockstar”

He further added, “Nabeel had no idea what to do with the script. The writer Nabeel isn’t able to write on his own; he writes in a group. I had to instruct him over the phone and made him delete multiple scenes. His comic side is good, but he can’t write independently.”

Talking about the casting, he said, “I wanted Syed Jibran as the brother, Saqib Sumeer as the Jinn, Sajal Aly as Khushi, Ali Raza in Wahaj Ali’s role, Mizna Waqas for Tamkenat, and Gul-e-Rana in place of Nadia Afgan. But they threw me out of the equation. The channel wanted Ahad Raza Mir, but they also told me that Sajal and Ahad can’t be paired together.”

In September, Shamoon Abbasi announced that he is taking retirement from showbiz to do a normal job. Lately, he has joined politics and became a member of the media development department of PTI.

While talking to Images, he revealed his purpose of joining politics and said, “I’ve joined PTI, not as a politician. I’ve joined the development department of the media industry. We’ve created and forwarded new policies that the government has accepted and started implementing.”

“Thankfully, Prime Minister Imran Khan is supporting us because there are no formal agreements, lots of issues arise in payments,” he added.

The department will be concerned about the agreement issue of employees. “We will be making this a legal issue. A department is being created which will visit sets without notice and make sure things are functioning professionally. If a producer has employed someone without an agreement, he will be questioned and we will work things out accordingly.”

He also shared that a summit was held where actors, producers, technicians were invited to share their problems and most of them had payment issue.

Shamon Abbasi has also suggested the government to fund our own projects so that any movie or drama on different themes can be made.

He shared his story and said, “I was born in Italy where the world is too open. I have studied in a co-education institute. I have grown up with girls and boys where we all used to live together.”

When he came to Pakistan he understood the concept of Nikkah in which you share all the things with a woman and give respect to her. However, in his case, things were complicated because he believes that a woman who belongs from showbiz can’t settle down.

Talking about, his mother’s reaction on his father’s death, Shamoon said, “I didn’t cry on my father’s death, in fact, I received my mother’s call after my father’s death, she said, ‘Today, I have become a widow’, I got so upset on her words and I cried a lot because she never forgot my father in her life, even after moving on”.

Talking about his mother’s last moments, Shamoon said, ” I couldn’t meet my mother during her last time because she didn’t inform me about herself, someone called me and told that she passed away, well, a family used to take care of her but they didn’t see her only for two days, and she passed away in those days. No one saw her dead body for two days, this is one my life’s biggest regrets”. He further said, “Actually, I was upset with my mother, I heard she got blood cancer, I stayed with her and attended her during her illness but she started fighting with me after she recovered, it made me upset and I left meeting her”

Talking about the last moments of his father, Shamoon Abbasi said, “I wanted to take my father back to Italy, I wish I had an opportunity to do that, I had a great time with my father, he gave me a perfect life, treated me with multiple trips to Europe. My father’s lungs got infected, there was a time, his health completely deteriorated. After the check-up, the doctors said he could only live for nine months, so I decided to obey him. I miss my papa a lot. He left me when I was going to do my big project Waar. He passed away before that.

Shamim had moved to UK with her son in her last years. She came back to Pakistan for a visit but her health deteriorated further and was taken back to UK for medical attention. She remained ill for about 6 years and left this mortal world on 5th August 2016 in a hospital in UK. Today marks her first death anniversary. May her soul rest in peace!

Iconic film artist, director and producer Shamim Ara (شمیم آراء) has passed away in London today after a prolonged illness. She was in coma for past several years.

Shamim Ara was the leading face of the Pakistani Urdu cinema in 1960s when most of her successful films as heroine were released. Her successful heroes were Darpan, Santosh Kumar, Waheed Murad and Aijaz.

Born in Aligarh, United Province, British India in 1938 her actual name was Putli Bai. She migrated to Pakistan after 1947 after British India is partitioned. Here she started her film career from the film Kanwari Bewah (1956).  She rose to prominence in 1960s when many of her successful films like  Saheli(1960), Qaidi (1962), Chingari (1964), Farangi (1964), Naila (1965), Aag Ka Darya (1966), Doraha (1967),Lakhon Mein Eik (1967), Saiqa (1968) and Salgirah (1968) were released.

She was the heroine of the first colored film of West Pakistan Naila in 1965 which proved quite successful.

In the late 1960s she became a film producer by producing Saiqa in 1968 which proved successful. In 1970s she also ventured in the film direction by directing Jeeo aur Jeene Do in 1976. She became a prominent director of Urdu cinema and continued film direction through out 1980s and 1990s. Her famous films as a director are Playboy (1978), Miss Hong Kong (1979), Miss Singapore, Miss Columbo, Lady Smuggler (1987), Lady Commando (1989), Hathi Mere Sathi (1993) and Munda Bidga Jaaye (1995). Kaun Banega Ka Crorepati in 2002 was her last movie as a director.

In the late 1990s she suffered a severe stroke and after 2002 she permanently shifted to London to live with her only son Salman Iqbal.

Shamim Ara married four times in her life. Her first marriage was with a Baloch sardar named Sardar Rind in the 1960s which ended due to the death of the Sardar Rind in a traffic accident. In the late 1960s she married Kareem Majeed who was the head of Agfa Films a company which supplied the film negative material.She has a son named Salman from this marriage which eventually ended in divorce. The third marriage was with the film director Fariduddin Ahmed which ended in divorce within a week. Her fourth and last marriage was with film writer Dabeerul Hassan which ended due to the death of Dabeerul Hassan in 2014.

Shameen Khan is an actress who has been working in the drama industry for a decade now. She has appeared in many good supporting roles and fans have loved her performances. She said, ” when I received the call for Khuda Aur Mohabbat I got really happy. After meeting the director Wajahat Hussain I got a bit confused because my script has only a few pages but the director suggested me to go home and have a look at the character first and then decide, he in the end said that I also want you to do it”.

Shameen Further said,” I liked the character after reading the dialogues and the character’s interaction with other people in the drama and I sort of loved it. Some of my friends also advised me not to perform the role of a maid otherwise I will get the same role offers but one of my friends said that if I like it and if the role has a performance margin I should not hesitate and go for it after that I said yes for this role.”

She said,” My character in Khuda Aur Mohabbat has received so much admiration and praise from the audience that I haven’t imagined. I have not played such an impactful role in the past and I have enjoyed doing it and I am loving the response of viewers.”
