Shaan Shahid – the Action Hero, the Super Dad

Shaan Shahid, the Pakistani super star. We’d love to refer to Shaan as one of Pakistan’s best actor when it comes to films. Unlike the actors of today, who make it big on television before they venture into films, Shaan Shahid, can purely boast of a film background. He starred in some of the major hits of Pakistani film industry before it embarked on its revival journey and has contributed immensely to the new age cinema as well.

But there’s more to Shaan, than just his hero image. This action hero, the real king of romance, the actual gujjar from the Pakistani cinema, is as much a doting father as his on screen persona.

Shaan, with his girls, is an out and out family man. Don’t believe us? Check out the actor’s Instagram and you’ll find it flooded with pictures of his daughters, his wife and family. The best part is, Shaan doesn’t hide back the immense love he feels for his girls. He’s a doting daddy and he lets the world know it.

Shaan’s eldest daughter is already a teen, and the actor calls him his best critic and his editing companion. The amount of trust he puts in his children is simply amazing and true father goals.

And, so, when the daughters call for a pretty manicure, the super hero dad is always available.

Shaan recently posted an Instagram picture of himself, with his toes painted, courtesy his little girls. What we love about this simple picture is the fact, that this doting father, who happens to have a tough guy image to maintain in front of his audience, couldn’t resist the love with which his daughters asked to paint their daddy’s toenails.

Shaan shared the picture on his Instagram, and we’re absolutely loving the pretty nail art, the young ones have given him.

On the work front, Shaan is currently awaiting the release of his action thriller, Zarrar. Written and directed by Shaan himself, Zarrar features Kiran Malik in the lead opposite the actor alongside Nadeem Baig and Adnan Butt in pivotal roles.

Shaan Shahid - Biography, Age, Real Name, Family, Films, Pictures Shaan Shahid - Biography, Age, Real Name, Family, Films, Pictures Shaan Shahid - Biography, Age, Real Name, Family, Films, Pictures

Shaan Says He’d Love To Do A Pervez Musharraf Biopic

As ‘Arth the destination’ is getting closer to it’s release date the promotions are making the headlines almost every day, this time it’s an interview Shaan Shahid gave while promoting Arth in a show.

Shaan Says He'd Love To Do A Pervez Musharraf Biopic

When asked if he’d like to play a real life person in his film whom would he choose the 021 actor said that he’d be thrilled to play Pervez Musharraf in his biopic,

“I want movies based on history to be made in Pakistan. When Hollywood can make movies such as Zero Dark Thirty, then why not in Lollywood,”

Moreover, the actor also shared that he would also love to remake Riaz Shahid’s Zarka.

When questioned about his contemporaries and their absence from the film scene the actor said that he didn’t burn himself all out he knew what he was doing and he stick to what he believed in,

“I didn’t burn out myself. I kept my pace for films. I am a product of films and I always focused on my destination.”

He shared that so many people tried to convince him to join television but he stood his ground.

“You have to stick to your ground and remember the relationship you have built with the audience.”

The Khuda Kay Liye star also shared some candid details of his life including the fact that he proposed his wife Amina within a week of meeting her,

“We met; we liked each other, within seven days I sent my mom to her place with a proposal.”

On his relationship with wife, he said:

“she understands my mission, she understands what I am trying to do in life and in the film industry.”

He also added that with his wife and his four daughters his household is rather women-centric and that his wife has a lot of control at home.

Shaan Says He'd Love To Do A Pervez Musharraf Biopic

When asked why Shaan chose to remake an Indian movie given his vocal opposition of releasing Indian movies in Pakistan, he shared:

“My plan was to have a trade with India, I am an actor. I just think that our films don’t get the same space in India as theirs get here.”

He further argued that our artists don’t get the kind of respect in India that they deserve, our actors are not getting a visa to India, he said, adding

“it is not about money but izzat [honour].”

Shaan also shared that his upcoming movie will not be releasing in India because of the tense and hostile conditions there.

“If someone like Mahesh Bhatt isn’t able to release a [Pakistani] film, then I don’t know who can.”

Shaan Says He'd Love To Do A Pervez Musharraf Biopic

The Khuda Kay Liye actor shared that currently the movies in Pakistan are being made in comfort zone.

“We need to enlarge the scope, and increase the pie, norms of the business have not been set up as far as entertainment is concerned.”

People are trying to control the cinema but they should know that

“it’s too early to own it.”

Let the people decide what they want, he remarked.

“Let new people come in. New talent should be given a chance.”

On the trend of movie promotions, Shaan remarked that it is a new trend associated with the evolution of the Pakistan cinema.

“Back in the day, there was a trust element between the audience and filmmaker, which was more than enough.”

Shaan Says He'd Love To Do A Pervez Musharraf Biopic

On Arth-The Destination, he said that he wanted to pick a movie which resonates with people from both Pakistan and India.

“I wanted to make an art film, one which people from all age groups can relate to.”

He said that he approached Mahesh Bhatt, the director of Shabana Azmi starrer Arth, and he did not charge Shaan any money over movie’s copyrights.

“I took the script added something very valuable to it, changed the protagonist and structure of the movie. I wanted to show the ties between the two countries through this film.”

On the casting of Humaima Malik, Shaan, who has also written the movie’s script, said that she was the perfect fit for the role.

The movie is set to release this December the 21st and we wish team Arth all the luck.

Shaan Sahid & Ali Zafar are “DOST” Again!

0

It was in an Award show in 2014 that Shaan bluntly passed comments on the Pakistani stars who were working across the border. He got little personal with Ali Zafar, while labeling all the artists as “cheap sell-outs”.

In the same show when Ali Zafar received the award ,in his speech he said that it was not right the way Shaan said about the artists working in India as “Sell outs”.

Ali Zafar also said, “We make excuses to hide our weaknesses, sometimes, in the name of patriotism, sometimes, in the name of other things. We should speak the truth and the time has come when the new generation should be told the truth.”

But now as we know that Ali has decided to do a Pakistani film, Shan has posted on his Facebook a very heart-warming post and its seems that both are friends again. Shan we are really proud of you the way you have welcomed Ali Zafar to the local film industry,

Have a look at the post.

Shaan Requests PM To Ensure The Release Of Pakistani Films In India!

0

Actor, director Shaan Shahid, who is known for his die-hard patriotism has spoken about PM’s latest strategy to release Indian films in Pakistan. Shaan has always put Pakistan before his own career and has denied many offers from Bollywood till date. He even had public spats with other celebrities over working in Bollywood. He has always shown his concern towards the exchange of talent between India and Pakistan and is yet again standing by our country’s industry.

For those who don’t know Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif recently formed a committee to ensure the release of Indian films in Pakistan. Shaan took to Facebook and requested PM to make similar strategies to promote Pakistani films in India.

Shaan Requests PM To Ensure The Release Of Pakistani Films In India!

Shaan believes that similar measures should be taken to release Pakistani films across the border and his humble request is justified.

India’s ban on Pakistani artists has been ongoing since the URI attacks which resulted in Pakistan banning Indian films, though the self imposed ban on Indian films was already lifted a while back!

Shaan replaces Humayun Saeed in Shamoon Abbassi’s upcoming film Gidh

In 2011, Shamoon Abbasi announced a film Gidh (Vulture) to be directed by him. The cast consisted of Humayun Saeed, Ayesha Khan, Mona Liza, Syed Jibran and Imran Patel. Promotional songs of film were also released on Youtube.

However the film got delayed as Humayun Saeed was busy in his home production ‘Mein Hoon Shahid Afridi’ (MHSA) which was released in 2013. The success of MHSA, resulted in Humayun being casted in some other projects and Gidh was further delayed.

Now after a wait of almost three years Shamoon Abbasi, has replaced Humayun Saeed by Shaan Shahid. Shamoon has recently worked with Shaan in film WAAR. After casting Shaan Shahid, Shamoon Abbasi has expressed the hope to complete this film by end of this year. Artist Ayesha Khan is also replaced by a new comer Rahma Ali in the film Gidh. The new cast of film is Shaan, Shamoon Abbasi, Rahma Ali, Sara Loren, Hamza Abbasi, Kiran Tabeer, Saima Azhar and Ali Sohaib

Shaan is the lead: Dr. Hassan Rana

The cast of Yalghaar including Shaan Shahid appeared on Kamran Shahid’s show and Shaan and director Hassan Rana finally answered the controversies surrounding the movie.

Shaan is the lead: Dr. Hassan Rana

Shaan was accompanied by Sana Bucha, Ayesha Omer and Dr. Hassan Rana on the show. When Shaan was questioned about his part in the film he said: “When people stopped making Urdu films, I had to choose between leaving Pakistan or doing Punjabi films. I did the latter. I have always tried to support film industry to save it from decline. People have been saying that I’m not supporting Yalghaar. It’s not a film which has one hero. There is no one person. The entire army is the hero here. I did not want to the person who give people the idea that I’m the hero and I’m doing all the shooting and the saving. It’s like a national responsibility, everyone is sacrificing for it, journalists, citizens and armies. For me, it was a national responsibility. This soil has made me who I am. I have to give something back.”

And then Dr. Hassan cleared the air by saying: “From the very first frame, you will see Shaan. The narrative of this film is lead by Shaan. Sana is asking the tough questions in the film. Ayesha is representing the strong women of Pakistan. Humayun represents the inner evil inside all of us.”

Sana Bucha answered this when she was asked about her transition from journalist to actress: “People have been asking why have I switched journalism for acting. I have given up anchoring, not acting. I’ll forever remain into journalism. I never felt like I was acting, I felt like I was doing what I do.”

Ayesha’s first film was Yalghaar but its release got delayed but Ayesha is happy on being part of such a big film: “The story of the film is very close to our hearts. War films are always about action. Yalghaar touches upon the personal life and emotional side of people associated with this profession. I realized how passionate Doc is and how he is true to his work. For me, it’s a huge honor that I’m doing this film with such huge names.”

The controversies are finally put to rest; thanks to Shaan’s appearance on the interview!

Shaan Is Not Happy With Fahad’s Statement!

Fahad Mustafa gave an interview to Images where he claimed that he is the only star in Pakistan who has gained immense popularity without doing any hit Bollywood movie. The statement didn’t go well with Shaan Shahid who is undoubtedly the biggest star in the country.

Shaan Is Not Happy With Fahad's Statement!

Shaan commented on Fahad’s statement: A lot of good actors have never went to India yet they have been quite popular here including Waheed Murad, Shahid, Rahat Kazmi,  Usman Peerzada, Umar Shareef, Faisal Rehman, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Bilal Ashraf, Faisal Qureshi, Nouman Ejaz and Danish Taimoor,”

Shaan also praised Fahad on his work and asked him to keep going: “You are doing good work Fahad, keep your head down and focus on your work and let the people say what you are saying. You are the only actor in Pakistan who can do a TV game show and do films together. Keep up the hard work. Films don’t have rating meters. Every Friday is a test.”

Previously Fahad’s has negated Shaan’s statement that over-exposure diminishes stardom.

What do you think about this exchange? Share your thoughts!

Shaan finally promoting Yalghaar!

Yalghaar is the most anticipated release this year. The film flaunts a huge cast including Shaan Shahid, Humayun Saeed, Bilal Ashraf, Adnan Siddiqui, Sana Bucha, Armeena Rana Khan, Ayesha Omer among others. The film came under some staring glances when the protagonist did not show up on neither the trailer launch nor the premier.

What followed were the speculations of a rift between Shaan and director Hassan Rana. The flame rose higher when Shaan commented on a post on facebook that he was just a guest star. If reviews are to be believed of those who attended the premier Shaan is still the protagonist but some of his scenes may have gotten cut.

Shaan and Ali Zafar’s War Of Words

0

ARY Film Awards have been the talk of the town lately, now there is more news about it. Shaan said in the show that actors who worked for India were “cheap sell-outs.” There were many prominent stars in the audience like Zeba Bakhtiar and Javed Sheikh who have worked in India too. The audience was not happy with Shaan’s comment because it was degrading.

Ali Zafar was not going to sit quietly and take the bashing. When he went on the stage to receive his award, he said,

“Hum doosri cheezon ka sahara letay hain apni khaamion ko chupane ke liye, patriotism ke naam pae, doosri cheezon ke naam pae…”

“I think we should be honest. Humain sach bolna chahiye aur woh waqt agaya hai ke anay walay logon se sach bola jaaye”  he added

shaan ali

Not only this he also said that Shaan should not have been disrespectful towards many notable people like Bade Ghulam Ali, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Mohsin Khan, Zeba Bakhtiar, Salma Agha, Shafqat Amanat Ali and Atif Aslam. He said that these stars had worked hard to make a place in India and have received tremendous appreciation for it. Calling them and him “cheap sell-outs” was not right at all.

He also said that the younger lot should not let such comments discourage them because they have the right to go and work anywhere they want to.

The audience was very happy with Ali’s remarks and endorsed his point of view by a big round of applause. Shaan has played a very important role in bringing Pakistani cinema forward but Ali won the audience’s heart in this incident.

Lets not forget that Shaan has been asked to work in many Bollywood ventures but he refused all of them. He was also asked to play the role of the villain in the film “Ghajini”.

Shaan Again Criticizes ‘Pepsi Battle Of The Bands’

The renowned actor from our film industry, Shaan Shahid does not look happy with the comeback of program, ‘Pepsi Battle Of The Bands’. He had criticized the teaser of the show on one of his Facebook messages earlier and now lately, he has again posted a message in which he expresses his utter disappointment with the upcoming music show.

https://www.facebook.com/shaan.shahid3/posts/10207312671853730

It is evident that Shaan isn’t happy with ‘Battle of The Bands’ and the brand ‘Pepsi’ too. Recently he has also posted a controversial message for the brand ‘Pepsi’ and it seems like he is trying to be a part of brand wars. Have a look on the message which he has posted on his Facebook account:

https://www.facebook.com/shaan.shahid3/posts/10207313662798503

He perceives that Pepsi is intruding on Coke’s territory but why he is taking sides in the upcoming brand wars? Is it an elaborate PR stunt or may be Shaan is just trying to endorse Coke? Well this is still unclear and hopefully the time will explain us.

Shaan & Reema Are All Set To Light Up Our Screens

Shaan and Reema are one of the most iconic couples of Lollywood, and are still known for their strong screen presence and striking chemistry. In past few years, Shaan and Reema have been spotted together in few commercials and have also walked the ramp in BCW.

And now Lollywood’s most celebrated couple Shaan and Reema Khan have paired up for an upcoming project. Few days ago Shaan and Reema were spotted with ace photographer Abid Saleem. If rumours are to be believed, then both of them have collaborated for an upcoming tvc. Were more than excited to see them together since it’s surely going to be a chartbuster.

Severe Criticism on Shehzad Roy & Farhan Saeed on Joking About Religion

0

Shehzad Roy is a brilliant Pakistani pop singer and social activist. The singer is hugely popular among youth since last two decades. Well, recently the singer has taken a jibe at people on the excessive usage of internet while giving an example of “Heaven and Hell”. He said, “What if People come to know that they will be having a WiFi connection in Hell and not in Heaven, Would they still prefer to go to “Heaven” (Jannah) ?”. To this Tweet of singer, Farhan Saeed replied, “Hotspot from Friends”. Zara Noor Abbas also replied, “This is Tough”. Have a look at Tweet of the singer and replies of Zara and Farhan.

The comic tweet with religious example was condemned by the public and it said that the thought coming from the two so called celebrities of Pakistan is showing their knowledge about Islam. People said that these two don’t know that mocking about religion can be so harmful as no one actually knows what would happen in grave or after death. They said that they didn’t expect such tweet from Shehzad Roy at all. They also taunted Shehzad Roy and said that he surely needs to learn about Islam instead of mocking about ‘Heaven and Hell’. One user said, “there won’t be WiFi in hell, but there would be many people in Hell because of WiFi”. Have a look at aggressive comments of public regarding the tweets about religion.

Severe Criticism On Juggan Kazim Morning Show For Showing Cringe Worthy Content

0

Pakistani Morning Shows are famous for producing entertainment oriented content to grab a certain kind of viewership and rating. We often saw big anchors like Shaista Lodhi, Nida Yasir, Faysal Quraishi & Sanam Jung admitting the fact that they have to do all the cringe-worthy shows because of Channels’ demand.

The channels sometimes cross the limits in the race of TRP, similar kind of event happened in Juggan Kazim’s newly started morning show where she invited couples, she hung up apples and the couples were given a weird task to eat those apple, while Ali Zafar’s song Mela Loot Lia was playing in the background.

Netizens didn’t like the cringe-worthy clip, also from far, it seemed that the couples were involved in some kind of public display of affection which was giving a bad idea.

Juggan herself was laughing at the content, fans said to the couples to atleast keep the faces in front of camera otherwise it’s looking as the couples are involved in some kind of PDA. Few fans said that this is the most embarrassing content, they have ever seen. Fans also said, “cringe level10000” Have a look at all the comments.

Seven-day festival of Pakistani food, art, music and fashion to start in Singapore

0

A Singapore-based Pakistan named Azzah Waseem is all set to establish ‘Fun Aur Funkaar’, a seven-day festival that showcases Pakistani food, art, music and fashion, reported by The Straits Times.

Azzah is 37 old who is the managing director of an events company by the name of Momentz by Azzah.

“The positive sides of Pakistan are not presented as much as the negative. It’s high time we showcase how rich our art, culture and talent are.”

The festival will start on Friday with a concert by Josh at the Magic Carpet Lounge.

On Sunday, at Aryaa Kitchen on Beach Road, a journey of the taste of Pakistani food will begin.

Each day will feature different dishes from Punjab, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

‘Fun Aur Funkaar’ will close with a fashion show featuring bridals and formal collections by popular Pakistani designer Rana Noman and baubles by Singapore- based jewellery designer Tanya Farooq.
Mikaal Zulfiqar, a Pakistani actor, will be present for a meet-and- greet.

Azzah claims the festival is not just for Pakistanis in Singapore but for Singaporeans as well.

“People know little about Pakistan here. So this festival is an opportunity for them to learn more, whether through its food, art, music or fashion,” she says.

She plans to make ‘Fun Aur Funkaar’ an annual affair and eventually include Bangladesh and Sri Lanka too.

Servis Tyres New TVC Is Grand!

0

Nowadays the star cast is not confided to dramas and films alone but even the brands are setting the bar high by making sure that their products are endorsed by those stars who have a massive fan following. Not only this the commercial nowadays are very detailed in which we see stars performing on songs or in this case an entire day in the life of a few stars who are bikers in this commercial.

Servis Tyres new TVC is grand because it has some of the top stars in it. Danish Taimoor, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Shaan Shahid endorse the product by being part of this commercial. As if this was not enough, the song for this commercial has been sung by the very famous Ali Zafar. All the stars involved in the commercial had been posting BTS pictures of it for few days without revealing what kind of a project it was. Many people thought that this was going to be another film but the suspense was broken with the commercial came out.

Servis 4th HUM Awards – The Highs And Lows

Hum TV left no stone unturned to ensure that the Servis 4th Hum Awards were the most grand of all the awards they have organized so far. The organizers raised the bar high last year and now it seems like it is only going to get higher with every passing year. Last year these awards covered only dramas but this time around there was a special category for films and the directors talked about Hum Films’ plans to add to the revival of Pakistani cinema. Almost all the prominent and new faces of the entertainment world especially the world of drama were seen on the award show and on the stage as well.

I would like to discuss the highs and lows of this award show by highlighting different aspects of the show one by one. Also, please keep in mind that this article attempts to discuss the award function and not the nominations or the awards.

The Hosts:

The show was opened by Hamza Ali Abbasi and Ayesha Khan. It wasn’t the perfect beginning because although Hamza Ali Abbasi is a great speaker and he has a nice voice but he needs to lighten up. Hamza’s body language in particular made this start too serious and not entertaining enough. Also, Hamza’s reply to Feroze Khan when he said that he could never think of competing with Hamza was in bad taste! Hosting isn’t just about reading out your script but also adding some life to the evening. Ayesha Khan’s more-American-than-the-actual-Americans accent and lack of spontaneity definitely did not help kick start the show. These two hosts were much better later on once they were on the stage for a while.

Vasay Chaudhry and Ahmed Ali Butt’s entry changed the mood of this show altogether. The lyrics of the song they sang and performed on were witty and relevant to the show. Also their performance was top-notch. They brought with them the spontaneity and wit which was lacking in the show. It cannot be easy being on the stage with such a big responsibility on your shoulders but these two makes it look like a piece of cake. Ahmed Ali Butt in particular is truly gifted.

Sanam Jung hosted part of the show with Hamza Ali Abbasi and Vasay Chaudhry. Sanam Jung was confident, articulate and definitely much better than some of her co-hosts. She did not shake for a single second even and was definitely not on a mission to impress anyone with her English accent!

Vasay Chaudhry, Ahmed Ali Butt and Sanam Jung did their job well and made these award shows fun to watch.

The Stage And The Script:

The stage was perfect in every way. Whoever was in charge of the stage did complete justice to the task assigned to them. Every time there was a new performance the background changed and it looked beautiful.

This time around there was plenty of Urdu in between too unlike the last time when the entire script was in English. Ahmed Ali Butt and Vasay Chaudhry mentioned in the beginning that some people got offended last time therefore they kept the personal jokes to the minimum and focused more on general things like the excessive rona dhona in our dramas and different reasons why people watch these dramas etc.

The introduction part in the beginning of the show however was less than average, there was more focus on rhyming and less on briefly asserting the importance of these awards. Unlike the last time the most important awards were not introduced very eloquently.

The Dance Performances:

I have to say that after I was finally done watching the award show I felt like I had just watched a dance competition! There were too many dances in the show, some of which were truly impressive without any doubt. The costumes, set and choreography was spot on but why do we continue to be fixated with Indian songs? Honestly speaking, it was shocking to see so many dance performances on Indian songs at a time when we are all raving about the growth of Pakistani film industry. If all these producers and directors are so impressed by the growth of the Pakistani film industry then why do they choose Indian songs for these performances?

Atif Aslam’s performance was impressive but was he singing live or just lip syncing?

hum awards

Few Suggestions

I was very tempted to give a few suggestions after watching this award show. A lot of hard work went into organizing this grand ceremony – something which I truly appreciate and acknowledge but if our organizers pay a little more attention to few things here and there then they can truly give these award shows a more ‘made in Pakistan’ feel.

Pakistan is blessed with some amazing writers and our actors who hosted this show are very good at speaking Urdu therefore it would be nice to ask one of these writers to write the script which I am certain even Ayesha Khan can read and deliver without any hindrances!! I hate to say this but there were times when I felt like some actors were trying to prove their accent was more ‘English / American’ than others!

Personally, I would much rather watch an award show with absolutely no dance performances but since that is inevitable, it would be nice if the organizers put in some effort to make medleys of OSTs instead of live performances in which yet again mostly songs that are sung are Indian and recorded. Also, Pakistani films have plenty of dance number therefore these songs can easily be used for the dance performances. Dancing on Indian songs sends out the wrong message – as if we don’t have any good songs of our own! If we use our own songs, that will encourage the composers and the singers as well and give the show a more Pakistani feel.

1

This award show function was thoroughly entertaining especially Ahmed Ali Butt and Vasay Chaudhry were hilarious but it was too long. I couldn’t help but wonder how the guests managed to sit and watch it for that long. I suggest separate award shows for dramas and films next year, I am certain that Hum TV can do that. I would like to thank all those people who put in so much effort and time into organizing this show and request them to implement some of the suggestions mentioned above next time.

The best thing about watching this show was seeing all these fabulously talented people under one roof being recognized and appreciated – they truly deserve it!

Servis 3rd HUM Awards – The Highs And Lows

0

The recently held HUM Awards were significant for many reasons. HUM completed its ten years therefore these awards were bound to more extravagant than the past two awards and HUM stepped into filmmaking too this year therefore there was more of a reason to put in an extra effort to gain the attention of the International viewers as well so that HUM could broaden its horizons further.

HUM TV has always maintained a very high standard in drama making although recently HUM does not have dramas like Dastan, Durr-e-Shahwar or Hamsafar to its credit but the loyal viewers still find a reason to tune into HUM. This year HUM had a few notable dramas which caught the attention of the viewers but there wasn’t one play which you could say won the audience in a way that would have made history.

8

The great thing about HUM Awards is that it is an absolute delight to watch all the stars of the television industry in particular sitting under one roof and it is good to see these stars who put in a great deal of effort to entertain us being rewarded. Here are my thoughts on HUM TV’s Award show:

The Hosts:

The show was opened by Hamza Ali Abbasi and Sanam Jung, unlike last year we did not see Meekaal Zulfiqar on stage this time. Hamza Ali Abbasi quite clearly took the lead when these two were on stage but both of them were reading out of the cards they were holding. Hamza Ali Abbasi and Sanam Jung were confident hosts and they did their job well but they were obviously expected to stick to the script.

6

Sanam Saeed also hosted the show for a while without any “help” from a co-host at first and later on with Hamza Ali Abbasi. Sanam’s trembling voice along with a few mistakes in reading Urdu here and there definitely made her a very shaky host.

12

When it came to hosting the evening belonged to Vasay Chaudhry and Ahmed Ali Butt, the HSY gig might have been slightly OTT but overall they were fun, witty, spontaneous and like someone else also remarked they could easily pass for the best on-screen couple!!! The obsession with Hamayun Saeed’s “love life” was slightly annoying and seemed repetitive in the beginning but as the evening drew to a close the reason behind that particular joke was revealed in the form of a beautiful trailer of the upcoming film “Bin Royee”

1

The Stage and The Script:

The stage was beautifully designed and the addition of the big screen at the back was phenomenal. The beautiful way in which tribute was paid to performers who were being given special awards was very impressive; whoever wrote those lines of appreciation did complete justice to all the actors and writers.

3

The Crowd

The crowd was full of energy which added to the very lively feel this whole evening had. You got the feeling that all these people were there to cheer for each other and not in competition. Ayesha Omer’s lack of interest and cheer however when Mehwish Hayat was performing went to show that these two might not be on good terms (just a hunch!!)

The Dance Performances

Personally, I am not a big fan of these dance performances at all since I think that they take that Pakistani Award Show feel away from these award shows because for some odd reason all the songs that our celebrities dance on are Indian. I would happily watch a show without dance performances but since they seem to be a necessary evil then why not add at least 2 or 3 Pakistani songs in the show too if sticking to Pakistani songs alone is not possible.

4

If we look at it neutrally the dance performances were very well choreographed; Ahsan Khan, Feroz Khan, Shehroz Sabzwari and Saba Qamar in particular were spot on. Mehwish Hayat’s performance was a little too sizzling for my liking, Sajjal Ali and Syra Shehroz failed to give coordinated moves even. Sajjal Ali’s red pants were very distracting and her whole “costume” stood out like a sore thumb. My personal favorite was the very first performance at the opening of the show which was less of nach gana and had a more artistic feel to it.

5

HUM has contributed a great deal to our drama industry, it has also added new trends to our fashion industry and is now venturing into films so why not do their bit to promote Pakistani music too by adding Pakistani songs to these award shows. Sure, people listen to Indian songs but Pakistani music I believe has a lot more to offer. I am not a big fan of Indian music and firmly believe that Pakistani music is far better and superior than that from across the border. We have so many classics by Sajjad Ali and others which are catchy and fun and can be used for these performances. Also, songs from recent Pakistani films should be promoted through such shows.

2

I couldn’t help but notice that some actors felt like they were obligated to speak English even when they were not very comfortable speaking it. Danish Taimoor and Imran Aslam were two such people who I am sure could have expressed their feelings with much more precision and confidence if they decided to speak in Urdu.

9

Overall, the HUM Awards were a labour of love; very well put together indeed but next time we would all like to see Pakistani music being promoted on this forum since these awards pay tribute to everything that is Pakistani. The day that happens it will be a very proud moment for all of us…..what better way to say “Pakistan Zindabad!”
