Maleeha’s character transformation and the way some of the choices she made completely ruined her ‘best friend’s’ life were some of those developments in the story which can never be forgotten. Through this character, the writer showed how jealousy and selfishness can ruin relationships. Maleeha’s character was layered and not all black, she basically put her own happiness before everything else and just like every other such character, she was sure that she was justified in doing everything she did. Maleeha’s ending was shown gradually and unlike other such characters, the writer convincingly showed that you just cannot build your happiness on someone else’s pain.

Farida – Saba Qamar (Digest Writer)

The character of Farida played beautifully by Saba Qamar perfectly depicted what it means to dream big and fulfill all those dreams with sheer commitment and hard work. Farida’s journey was full of personal struggles and hardships because although she did well professionally, in her personal life, she was unable to find true love for that she longed for. Although Farida always put everyone ahead of her, what proved her as a selfless person was when in the end, despite having the option of being with the one she loved, she chose to stay with her husband for the sake of her children and their happiness. This made her character realistic, impactful, and memorable.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

This had to be one of the most negative characters in Pakistani dramas yet Malika Aaliya was the sole attraction of a drama which was not extraordinary otherwise. As the name suggests, Malika thought of herself as a queen and ran the show throughout. It was actually entertaining watching how she had everyone wrapped around her finger. The character was amusing and comic at times as well. Malika’s antics were entertaining and since she was the only character in the drama which had a definite appeal, she deserves to be on this list.

Her eldest daughter continued to make one mistake after another but Aneesa Begum did not let her motherly emotions cloud her judgment. Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

2017

Zubia – Sajal Aly (Yakeen Ka Safar)

Sajal Aly made the viewers fall in love with Zubia’s character. Zubia came from a dysfunctional background and looked for love elsewhere but because of her poor judgment, she learned a lesson in life. After that, Zubia walked on the eggshells until she ended up proving herself. The overall journey of Zubia was beautiful and this character had a complete personality, making it memorable.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Anji – Sanam Chaudhry (Ghar Titli Ka Par)

Sanam Chauhdry gave one of the best performances of her career in Ghar Titli Ka Par as Anji. She made the viewers resent this character while still making it thoroughly enjoyable to watch Anji’s antics. Anji was mean, she was selfish but she was unapologetic about it. She continued to cross the limits and in the end paid the price but to watch her journey was worthwhile. She was a negative character but a unique one at that.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Nadia – Kiran Haq (Dar Si Jati Hai Sila)

Kiran Haq played the character of Nadia to perfection. She had the kind of aura that one could easily see her as a gullible young girl but she was far wiser than the elders of the family combined. She was observant and that’s what made her see-through things quickly. Nadia ended up being the voice of reason in this family and being an outsider, she knew she didn’t have much to lose and she could say what others were hesitant to. Her character was memorable for sure.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Zaini – Aamna Malick (Dar Si Jati Hai Sila)

Zaini could easily pass as a considerate sister of Sila who found it hard to take a stand for herself. It was refreshing to see a character like Zaini who never made Sila feel less human by pointing out her shortcomings, in fact, she believed in building her confidence and helped her in overcoming her fears. Zaini’s character was opinionated and strong, she was a breath of fresh air.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Khaani – Sana Javed (Khaani)

Khaani has to be the strongest yet the most vulnerable character played by Sana Javed. Khaani’s story was inspired by real-life incidents that was perhaps the reason why this character left a lasting impression. Khaani’s life turns around for the worse when her brother is shot dead by a wealthy and influential man. Things get even worse when this man falls in love with Khaani. She fought a long and hard battle to get justice for her brother and through it, all the viewers got to witness so many different shades of her personality.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Aapa – Sakina Samo (Dar Si Jati Hai Sila)

Aapa was the head of Noor Manzil and she made some really bad choices along the way. A know-it-all dictator who wanted things her way, Aapa made the worst decision of her life when she decided to take Joi, an orphan as her own, and loved him more than anyone else in her life. Joi gave her life meaning, the feeling of motherhood since she did not have any children of her own. Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Noor Jahan – Aisha Khan (Noor e Zindagi)

It won’t be wrong to say that there were times when Noor Jahan was too perfect and sensible but once in a while, it is good to watch such characters in dramas! Noor Jahan was so wise that she could easily find a way out of any difficult situation at all and had the capability of turning things around. Noor can easily pass as one of the most level-headed, sweet, sensible, and likable characters of the decade.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Bibi Sahiba – Saman Ansari (Dumpukht Aatish-e-Ishq)

Bibi Sahiba’s character had so much going for it. She had the most graceful personality and she always came across as an enlightened woman who was also spiritually enlightened. A really intelligent woman who goes out of her way to save someone she is not even remotely related with. Bibi Sahiba was a strong woman with a heart of gold. It was a beautiful character which was the highlight of the drama Dumpukht.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

2018

Ulfat – Neelam Munir (Dil Mom Ka Diya)

Ulfat’s character opened new domains for Neelam Munir and put her name on the map where people started seeing her as a mature actor. The character of Ulfat was toxic and continued to make one mistake after another but in the end, her tears explained her regrets. She ended up with a terminally ill husband but didn’t leave him, seeing it as her redemption. Till the time the drama lasted, Ulfat was the talk of the town and despite being a negative character, it succeeded in staying with the viewers.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Noori – Iqra Aziz (Ranjha Ranjha Kardi)

Noori had to be one of the most intriguing, appealing, and layered female characters we saw in Pakistani dramas in this decade. She had some really likable positive traits and like many other heroines of Faiza Iftikhar, she had a fierce personality. Noori’s entire journey covered so many different aspects of her life. From trusting the wrong people to getting married to someone she was not compatible with, Noori faced all these challenges head-on and proved to be an exceptional character. The best thing about this character was that it had more than its fair share of flaws but even then it was quite appealing.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Tabbasum – Nadia Khan (Zun Mureed)

Tabbasum’s character was written so well that through this character the writer Amna Mufti showed all those problems that women face in households and within the society. Right from the first episode, Tabbasum was shown as someone who was burdened with more responsibility than she could bear yet she never got a lot of acknowledgment for it. The best aspect of this character was the way the writer defined boundaries in marriage through it. A wonderfully penned down character, Tabbasum offered so much. This character spoke to the audience like no other.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Shahana – Nadia Afghan (Suno Chanda)

Shahana was witty, comic, fierce, and entertaining all rolled into one! She was the most favorite character from Suno Chanda for all the right reasons. Apart from being entertaining, Shahana was also a great mother-in-law who always supported her bahu unconditionally. Shahana had such a screen presence that many people watched this show and enjoyed it because of her.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Bi Jaan – Samina Ahmed (Suno Chanda)

How often do we see positive women running the show in dramas like the male heads of families do? Well, hardly ever! Bi Jaan was one such character in Suno Chanda who was a wise but at the same time fun head of the family. She was strong and young at heart. She was also great at solving different problems that arose a little too often among family members.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Shehnaz – Saniya Saeed (Meri Guriya)

Shehnaz was an unfortunate mother whose daughter was raped and murdered. She was pressurized to stay quiet but she did everything she could to get her daughter justice and in the end, she succeeded. She was one of the best mothers we saw in Pakistani dramas in this decade. Her scenes with her daughters were heart-warming right from day one.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Safina – Sonya Hussyn (Meri Guriya)

Safina’s character was perhaps the best one Sonya Hussyn opted to play in this decade. Safina was a professional badminton player but she was forced to get married. When she got married, she had no idea that her husband would turn out to be a sick-minded rapist and murderer. Eventually, this wise and strong lady played a crucial role in getting her husband caught. Her support for Shehnaz and all the victims’ parents were the best part of the drama. Safina was outspoken, confident, and sensitive, a complete package, the perfect character you could easily fall in love with.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Nigar – Ushna Shah (Balaa)

Another negative character of the year that inflicted so much misery on her in-laws. Ushna Shah played a negative character to perfection and made Nigar’s character stand out more. It was unfortunate that the writer opted for an easier ending for this character by driving her crazy, whereas it would’ve been perfect if they had shown her husband seeking professional help to sort her issues. Nigar’s character was discussed everywhere and despite being an evil character, ended up being engraved in the minds of the viewers.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

2019

Mehwish – Ayeza Khan (Mere Pass Tum Ho)

Previously, writers have shown women being infidels but the way Khalil ur Rehman Qamar conceived and shaped this character was different and never seen before. Mehwish jumped into a deep pit with her eyes open and the writer showed, that women like Mehwish existed who find it hard to settle with what life has given them. Mehwish was unapologetic and this is the reason, viewers did not feel for her because she never once realized the gravity of the mistakes done by her. Mehwish’s character was not ideal but the journey of it was definitely memorable.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Gaiti – Hira Mani (Do Bol)

It was very easy for the character of Gaiti to come across as snobbish or rude but Hira Mani played this character beautifully which showcased all of Gaiti’s shortcomings as well as her strengths. Gaiti came from a background where she was not allowed to make her choices, resulting in her sudden marriage to Badar but it was after she moved out of that house, she realized how free she was. It was her journey of learning and re-discovering the value of what her husband meant to her. Gaiti’s character as well as her journey was memorable.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Abru – Sanam Chauhdry (Meer Abru)

Life wasn’t easy for her but she didn’t compromise on her dignity and self-respect. Abru pushed through and made the viewers fall in love with her character. Sanam Chauhdry’s performance was brilliant.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Momina – Sajal Aly (Alif)

Momina’s journey was not easy and all that she ever did or achieve was only for her brother and her parents. In the middle of this, Momina forgot to live for herself and probably also forgot who she was but then, rediscovering her father’s past and relating her journey to that of Husn e Jahan’s helped her a great deal in shaping her present and future. Momina also had a chance at love but she believed in being free. Her journey was beautiful and her character was even better backed by the measured performance of Sajal Aly

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Husn e Jahan – Kubra Khan (Alif)

The character of Husn e Jahan showed that when you have that urge in you to achieve the closeness to your Creator, you stick to the opportunity you get. After experiencing the world of glitz and glam, Husn e Jahan found peace in seclusion. The best aspect of her character was the way she approached motherhood. Her connection and relation with her son were absolutely beautiful.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)
Ramsha – Hajra Yamin (Ehd e Wafa)

Drama serial Ehd-e-Wafa had so many progressive and inspiring female characters. Ramsha was one such young lady who was shown as an independent working woman. Ramsha was wise, practical, and sensitive. She was also someone who did not need a man in her life to support her. On the contrary, her relationship with Shariq was based on mutual trust and support. They were equal partners in everything whether it was their work or the emotional investment they put in their relationship. This was truly a refreshing character that broke so many stereotypes.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Dua – Alizeh Shah (Ehd e Wafa)

Dua did not appeal to the viewers at first but as the story progresses and this character evolved, we got to see a caring daughter, a dedicated student, and a motivated working woman in Dua. This was another character that went against the stereotypes by putting forward so many inspiring messages for all the young ladies out there. Dua was completely focused on every phase of her life. She also had the courage to speak up when it was needed the most.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Faryal – Vaneeza Ahmed (Ehd e Wafa)

Faryal will always be remembered as a role model for all the mothers out there. Usually, working women are shown as failures as mothers and homemakers in our dramas. That was certainly not the case here. Faryal used her wisdom both in her work and also at home. She was a friend to Saad and without her advice and support, he wouldn’t have been able to make all the right choices.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Hajra – Yumna Zaidi (Inkaar)

Hajra’s character was yet another flawed yet inspiring characters in Pakistani dramas this decade. Hajra made some mistakes and later on she had to pay a heavy price for them. Her journey overall played an important role in showing the importance of consent in relationships. Hajra’s emotional and sensitive side was actually more appealing than her strong nature. This was such a beautifully written character that had the most inspiring journey.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

2020

Kashf – Hira Mani (Kashf)

Kashf’s story is all about how a selfless person allows her family to exploit her to their heart’s content but the patience with which she deals with them shows how big-hearted she is because she is not oblivious to their selfishness. Kashf has dedicated her entire life to support her family and has curbed her own feelings, desires, emotions, and wants aside. Hira Mani has given a phenomenal performance and Kashf’s character is unique with so much niceness in her heart, that reflects in her thought process and actions towards others.

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Mahjabeen – Yumna Zaidi (Pyar Ke Sadqay)

Mahjabeen can easily be termed as one of the most unusual yet the most adorable characters in Pakistani dramas. Mahjabeen was a young girl who was completely aware of her limitations and failures but that never stopped her from trying to stand out in some way or the other. Her innocence was the most charming aspect of her character. She was the kind of character that made the viewers laugh and cry at the same time. Mahjabeen will definitely be remembered for a really long time!

Most Memorable Female Characters of Pakistani Dramas - (2010 to 2020)

Washma – Srha Asghar (Pyar Ke Sadqay)

Washma from Pyar Ke Sadqay was just as likable as Mahjabeen but for completely different reasons. She was a wise and resilient young woman who made all the right choices even when the odds were completely against her. Even though she never had the support of her mother, Washma learned to take a stand for herself, and later on, she was Mahjabeen’s biggest support. Washma’s powerful personality was the highlight of every episode she was a part of. The viewers looked forward to her scenes and she never disappointed them.

Kashf Episode 19 Story Review – Intense & Superb Episode

Ohkay so, after a few monotonous ones, this episode of Kashf was intense & quite gripping. I must say I really liked the pace with which everything progressed in this particular episode because the dream that Kashf saw had me thinking & then eventually everything started unfolding which gave a clear picture. I like how certain things can be deciphered whereas there are also some which the writer uses to surprise the viewers. Whatever happened in this episode was foreshadowed at the beginning but to see it unfold in real was actually quite interesting.

Shocking Developments

Kashf saw Zoya throwing dirt on her clothes. This particular dream was pretty clear that she was going to tarnish her reputation & just when I was thinking about it deeply, I could totally see everything moving in that direction which was further going to elaborate what this dream meant. It is probably for the first time Zoya openly said that she wanted to get married to Wajdan. She knows she has played her cards well, therefore she has Rashida’s support. Rashida was on good terms with Kashf but she too has her reasons to turn against her, because she can see that her relationship with Wajdan has cost them their home. The home that her deceased husband built for his small family with love & affection.

I couldn’t help but think how much I like Wajdan’s character, especially because of the fact that he is clear on his thoughts. I find such characters to be refreshing who do not beat around the bush & just convey what’s on their mind right then & there. Wajdan understands that Zoya wants to get married to him but he knew he had to honestly tell her off. All the things that Wajdan said to Zoya actually made me happy. Out of all the people, he knows & understands what Kashf’s going through, therefore he knew he had to give a reality check to Zoya concerning her loyalties. At this stage, I feel Zoya is incapable of loving anyone. She just wants to snatch Wajdan away from Kashf & she thinks it will be her win but after she will get what she wants, she will not be able to value it as much as she values it now. At the beginning of the episode, I also felt the dream that Kashf saw must also mean that Zoya will let her down, in a sense that Kashf will get her married to Wajdan but Zoya won’t be able to nurture this relationship. Let’s see!

Kashf Episode 19 Story Review - Intense & Superb Episode

It was nice to see Irum being so happy & satisfied with how her life shaped up. It makes me think that in the same dream, Kashf also saw Ashi coming back & crying. I thought maybe the way Shehbaz recorded Babar’s video, he’ll do the same with Aqmal but that hasn’t happened yet. Not sure what’s in store for Ashi but I really hope her life doesn’t get ruined either.

The only time Kashf gave words to her feelings about Wajdan ended up being what turned everything against her. Zoya joined hands with Matiullah & recorded a video. I really couldn’t believe when I saw that happening because it was too low of Zoya to do something like this, that too when she herself has heard that Kashf is no way interested in getting married to Wajdan because she wants him to get married to Zoya. I must say, at this stage, I really want to see the end Zoya’s character’s going to have because she deserves the worst for being this vile & evil. It seems Kashf will see Zoya & Wajdan’s marriage as the only option to calm things down & make people believe that there was nothing going on between her & Wajdan.

Kashf Episode 19 Story Review - Intense & Superb Episode

I really didn’t think I’d ever feel resentment towards Dilshaad’s character. Out of all the people, I thought she’d always be emotionally available for her daughter but she seems too consumed by the comfortable life that she has completely forgotten what Kashf is going through. I have said this before but I feel like saying it again that Imtiyaz still seems justified because he was always like that but the flip in Dilshad’s attitude is not only shocking but leaves a bad taste in the mouth. She too has held grudges against Rashida, this is why she didn’t find it odd that Imtiyaz had tactfully gotten hold of the ownership of Rashida’s house. I hoped that she would remind him of the fact that Rashida was now a widow therefore he shouldn’t behave so greedily but she didn’t utter a word & in fact found it bizarre that Dadi was showing concern about this matter.

Superb Episode

This episode of Kashf was quite intense & actually had me emotionally invested in it because I felt really bad for what Kashf went through. I really hope in the next episode, Kashf gives Zoya a piece of her mind because she has all the reasons to hold her responsible based on the dream that she saw as well as the behavior Zoya, in general, has towards Kashf.

It will definitely take some time for me to warm up to Asma Abbas as Rashida. I really liked the way Lubna Aslam played that role & had such perfect motherly chemistry with Wajdan. Asma Abbas seemed a little out of place & even the attitude of Rashida seemed a bit changed but that’s given when two different actors play the same role. I really hope Lubna Aslam is doing fine, I wish her well & I pray for her health. Junaid Khan & Hira Mani were the stars of this episode. Sabeena Farooq has succeeded in making me loath Zoya’s character – that’s her win as an actor for sure. It is interesting that they didn’t really give away much in the preview of the next episode. Definitely looking forward to it. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Kashf.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Prem Gali Episode 1 Story Review – Refreshing Story & Characters

Ohkay so, written by Faiza Iftikhar, directed by Qasim Ali Mureed & produced by Six Sigma Plus; Prem Gali is a romantic comedy that is going to air on Mondays on ARY Digital. It started airing last night & the first episode introduced a whole lot of characters that the story is going to revolve around. It is mostly going to be about the dynamics of Prem Gali where all the families reside. The first episode was quite refreshing because when it comes to Faiza Iftikhar, she most certainly knows how to write romantic comedies. It was evident throughout the episode & the first episode was happening enough to get the viewers excited for the rest of the drama.

Cast & Characters

Prem Gali is an enclosed neighborhood where each and every family is acquainted with one another. In the very first episode, 3 families were introduced. Rahat (Shamim Halali), a widow who resides with her two divorced daughters Shireen (Saba Hameed) & Musarrat (Uzma Hassan). Shireen has a daughter Joya (Sohai Ali Abro) & she happens to be the in-charge of the family. Shireen runs a grocery store, Musarrat is a teacher & Joya is a college student. Rahat is a TV buff who takes her TV programs & dramas quite seriously! Also, I couldn’t help but notice the humor in their names – Shireen is so not Shireen in behavior & Musarrat is so not a Musarrat soul. I saw what Faiza Iftikhar did there!

Prem Gali Episode 1 Story Review - Refreshing Story & Characters

Haseena (Farah Shah) is another widow, who is also a matchmaker & a landlady. Haseena’s daughter Fari (Anoushay Abbasi) runs a beauty parlor & her son Salman is into bodybuilding & also quite inspired by Salman Khan it seems. He has yet to make an entry but he did get a decent introduction because I am kind of intrigued to find out who he actually is!

Haseena has appointed new tenants & they’re a family of 4 men. Dada Jaan (Qavi Khan), along with his two sons Hatim Chaudhry (Waseem Abbas), Luqman (Farhat Abdullah) & grandson Hamza (Farhaan Saeed) has just moved to Prem Gali & are now getting used to how things roll in this neighborhood. Because they’re a family of 4 men, people already have some inhibitions, especially Shireen’s family. Hatim is very much into astrology & he makes his moves based on what his horoscopes say. Luqman is an introvert & is a fan of sad songs. Hamza is your typical guy-next-door who is smitten by Joya. It is a perfect case of love-at-first-sight & it seems Joya too has started noticing his presence.

Prem Gali Episode 1 Story Review - Refreshing Story & Characters

The other three independent characters who also made an appearance were Sanata, a boy who assists Shireen at her grocery shop. Nargis (Uzma Gillani) who also happens to be a teacher & Nusrat’s colleague at school, is rich when it comes to facial hair & that’s what surprises Fari too. Tau Hidayat (Ashraf Khan) is a practicing Muslim & takes his job of giving ‘Hidayat’ to the younger generation very seriously.

Prem Gali Episode 1 Story Review - Refreshing Story & Characters

Dynamics & Setting

The first episode of Prem Gali was fun to watch & quite refreshing. The dialogues were humorous & conveyed a great deal about the kind of mindset all the characters have. It was also noticeable that despite being neighbors for so long, each one of them had one thing or the other to say about one another. Haseena has strong opinions about Rahat’s family, similarly, Rahat’s family also doesn’t shy away from sharing what they feel about Haseena & her decisions. At the moment, Haseena is in the limelight & the entire responsibility lies on her because she is the landlady & she has brought the 4 men in the neighborhood as her tenants.

The thing that stood out the most for me was how they had shown all the women doing one thing or the other to run their families. It is safe today that Prem Gali is a female-dominated society & no one dares say a word against them, especially Shireen & her family because of the kind of personality she has. Shireen is blunt & straightforward, she doesn’t believe in beating around the bush because she already has a lot on her plate. Shireen & Musarrat both have experienced divorce but it was interesting to note that the divorce & the responsibility of being a single-parent made Shireen stronger. Where when it comes to Musarrat, her divorce has had a completely different impact on her & she has turned into a tragedy-queen. I mean who doesn’t feel for Musarrat even at the initial stages of the drama because she is so ridden by misfortune that she doesn’t even get alu in her samosa! Sigh!

Prem Gali Episode 1 Story Review - Refreshing Story & Characters

Fari is running her parlor but she too wants to get settled. It seems she has been rejecting quite a few proposals because she too is waiting for her Mr. Right. Joya & Fari are friends & they both share the same mental wavelength. There was frankness between them but there was also empathy & certain lines that they know shouldn’t be crossed. Joya comes from a broken family, therefore she is a little sensitive, however, she too takes after Shireen because there were a lot of instances where she was blunt as well. The bickering, the arguments & one-liners immediately set the mood & was enough to show the kind of humor I as a viewer can expect from Prem Gali.

Hamza & Joya’s beginning was typical in a sense of how it always usually happens. The prettiest girl in the neighborhood gets the attention of the boy who has moved in recently. They have a couple of interactions & that sets the tone for them to notice each other. Their scenes were cute & the characters were even better. Although the neighborhood dynamics have been seen before, what sets Prem Gali apart for me is that for a change, we’ll be getting to see males residing in a female-dominated vicinity & obviously, that is going to be quite interesting.

A Refreshing Beginning

The very first episode of Prem Gali had a lot to offer. The way the characters were introduced & the dynamics were explained was quite interesting & to the point. I must commend the set-designers especially for bringing so much character in all the houses that were seen in the first episode. I couldn’t help but notice all the spaces & really liked all the aesthetics of each home. If this is the beginning, I can’t even begin to imagine what’s more in store for us.

I really liked Tau Hidayat & his dialogues. This is what you call making an impact in such a limited screen-time. I am also looking forward to Dada Jaan’s character. Waseem Abbas as Hatim was as usual impressive. Sohai Ali Abro & Farhaan Saeed were at their usual best. In the initial few scenes, I did feel everything was a little exaggerated but as the episode progressed, that feeling went away. The star of the episode for me definitely was Saba Hameed. I can’t wait to see Shireen’s story & her entire track. Saba Hameed also does justice to such substantial characters, therefore this performance was exactly what’s expected from an actor of her caliber. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her play Shireen’s character. Her styling, hair, makeup, body language & dialogue delivery, each & everything was spot on. Uzma Hassan was so much fun as Musarrat, although she is playing a tragedy-queen, only Uzma Hassan can make it look this cute! I felt the ending of the episode was abrupt but it obviously keeps you looking forward to more. The usage of OST was just right. The direction was perfect. Really liked the initial aerial shots as well as the focus on how the day to day life in Prem Gali unfolded. Let’s see what comes next. Please share your thoughts about the very first episode of Prem Gali, which of the dialogues were your favorite that made you laugh? Share it all.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

ps: Apologies for late review, severe headache & all that jazz! :/

Sabaat Episode 19 Story Review – Marital Problems

After watching Sabaat’s episode last week, I wasn’t sure if I could actually sit through another episode of this drama but tonight’s episode was better than the previous one. Even though the objectives and basic personalities of the characters more or less remain the same, there was some progress in the storyline. I still feel that Sabaat’s story overall is quite pointless, in all these weeks there has hardly been any tangible meaningful development in the story. Anaya and Hasan’s track could have taken such a positive and even inspiring turn had it been shown as the perfect union of two people who wanted the same things in life. On the contrary, the track focuses more on the problems these two have been facing ever since they got married more than anything else. Some smooth sailing for a while would have been great. On the other hand, Fareed and Miraal have unlimited wealth and they continue to exercise control. In a nutshell, tonight’s episode focused on both the married couples and showed how their relationships were progressing.

Anaya’s parents for the longest time continued to be the most heart-warming aspect of the story. I completely fell in love with their characters for obvious reasons. Anaya’s father is yet another beautiful and gentle character played by the most adorable Syed Muhammad Ahmed. Unfortunately like many other such characters played by him, it seems like this one will also die! This for me was the most disturbing development of this episode. Anaya had such close ties with her parents, their bond was extremely special yet we haven’t seen her interacting with her parents enough. Her father’s diagnosis came as a complete shock since there was no background to this. In the previous episode, he met Anaya and he seemed fine.

Hasan and Anaya

I am glad Anaya and Hasan’s scenes in this episode were not as disappointing as the ones we saw in the previous one. Hasan’s frustrations continue to grow and unfortunately, Miraal is still in a way running his life for him. Hasan wants to leave the job but Atif keeps on telling him not to do that because of his ulterior motives. It was good to see Anaya giving him advice like a friend and wife who had faith in him and not like a mother lecturing his son! There was more active communication between these two too unlike before. It would have been even better if once in a while they took some time out to enjoy themselves. Their life is a little too robotic and there isn’t much romance. Both of them have a job and they have each other yet most of their conversations are more practical than romantic!

Sabaat Episode 19 Story Review - Marital Problems

Mawra Hocane and Ameer Gillani make a cute on-screen couple. Anaya and Hasan have interesting personalities as well but the writer has definitely not added the spark needed to make this track more likable. They come across as two wise but really boring people trying to make ends meet – nothing more and nothing less! Hasan’s frustration is justified but he is not trying hard enough to find another job. Anaya on the other hand has a rewarding job and she does not have to face the challenges which Hasan is facing. Hasan was more eager to start afresh before than he is now. In my opinion, there was absolutely no need to make this track so grim since Hasan and Anaya did nothing wrong. They are not the ones who should be punished for taking a stand for themselves. The message this track is sending out is completely wrong!

Miraal and Harris

The first part of Miraal and Harris’ track showed how uncomfortable Harris felt living in Miraal’s parents’ house. He also felt ‘ignored’ because his wife was too busy with her work! It was actually good to see Miraal focusing on something other than Hasan and Anaya but happiness is short-lived! As soon as Miraal found out who Hasan was working for, she was once again completely focused on getting Hasan back! This part of Miraal’s personality and this track is extremely annoying.

I am going, to be honest, and say that I am happy Miraal has started giving Harris a tough time! In my opinion, he completely deserves it since he made such a foolish choice when he decided to marry Miraal! Harris’ character is so plain and unappealing. He barely has any emotions! He is always so contained and even if something bothers him, he makes sure he does not show his actual emotions. He is clearly smitten by his wife which is the only reason why he even ignored the fact that she walked in while he was attending to his client. Miraal is getting jealous now and hopefully, soon enough Harris will see that he married a monster. Most of the time it seems like he does not know Miraal at all but he loves her nevertheless and would do anything to please her.

Sabaat Episode 19 Story Review - Marital Problems

Final Remarks

There was some much-needed progress in all the tracks in this episode which made this episode slightly interesting. Although Sabaat’s overall story so far doesn’t have a definite direction but I want to know how these tracks are taken forward in the upcoming episodes. Harris is sadly turning out to be a plain character, somewhat of a caricature. Everything that has happened in these 19 weeks could easily have been covered in 10 weeks. Sarah Khan’s dressing in this episode stood out like a sore thumb! These gowns and jackets she has been wearing in Sabaat have been the worst part of her overall look.

The preview of the next episode suggested that Harris will soon have to deal with the controlling, narcissist side of Miraal’s personality. I really hope that Atif is not able to brainwash Hasan into thinking that marrying Anaya was an unwise decision!
