Woh Mera Dil Tha Episode 23 Story Review – This heart-warming episode of Woh Mera Dil Tha was Impeccably scripted and beautifully directed. Woh Mera Dil Tha is one of those rare dramas which get better with every passing episode and this second last episode was one of the most marvelously poignant episodes of this drama so far. It was the kind of episode which you can watch over and over again. There are very few writers who can keep the essence of a story alive right till the end and add novelty to even the simplest scripts, Faiza Iftikhar is definitely one of them. After watching so many ishq tamashas this year on Pakistani channels, a romantic story like this one which is simple yet unique in its own way is refreshing. Woh Mera Dil Tha is completely free of clichés and stereotypes which itself is its biggest success.
Sami Khan and Zaid – The Perfect match!
Sami Khan’s heartfelt performance in this episode of Woh Mera Dil Tha made his presence felt every step of the way. He absolutely and completely nailed every single expression in this episode. This isn’t the first time that Sami Khan has given his absolute best to a role he is playing but what makes this character particularly special is that Zaid’s coming-of-age story has been written beautifully too. The guilt Zaid felt was apparent in all the scenes, the willingness with which he accepted his faults turned his weaknesses into his strengths.
Zaid clearly is no longer the cold and calculated person who never felt vulnerable in any way. In this episode, Zaid was not just terribly sorry for his actions but also scared of his own feelings. Sami Khan did a splendid job of translating this fear and realization on screen which made his scenes even more powerful.
Will Arham Turn Things Around In The End?
Sami Khan’s performance has been the highlight of this show but Furqan Qureshi’s acting has been terribly disappointing. Arham has many flaws but so does Zaid, while Sami Khan always made his character look charming in some way, Arham keeps you wondering why an intelligent girl like Naina would be attracted to him in the first place. Even tonight when Arham confronted Zaid, the sensitivity with which some of the dialogues should have been delivered was completely missing.
Furqan Qureshi has been doing the bear minimum which is why Arham’s character comes across as too plain and annoying. Having said that, it did look like in the last episode Arham might shift things around completely for both Naina and Zaid. Zaid and Arham were really close therefore Arham could tell that even though Zaid was not admitting it, he really was in love with Naina.
Engaging Dialogues and Emotional Storytelling
Many of the dialogues and situations in this episode reflected the beauty of every day life conversations. The interactions of the family members with each other in particular were written and executed well. Some of the conversations were extremely touching. Zaid’s conversation with Sonia, all of Naina’s conversations with Zaid’s family members and Shabana in particular were extremely poignant. The way everyone kept on telling Zaid off yet he did not say anything in his defence was also moving. Naina’s maturity was effectively conveyed through her dialogues. Madiha Imam has also translated this character beautifully on screen. She makes sure that she presents the goodness of Naina’s character as her strength and not her weakness. Naina’s dialogues when Zaid’s father came to take her home were also right on point.
Overall Impression
This second last episode had more strengths than weaknesses. With the exception of few performances which were not up to the mark, everything else was phenomenal. This episode was also visually pleasing (for a change), the script, direction and few of the performances were the best part of this beautiful second last episode.

A few months back actress Saba Qamar and Bilal Abbas Khan had a very friendly exchange on Instagram. The superstar Saba Qamar said that she loved Bilal Abbas’s acting in O Rangreza and will love to work with him sometime. Mental health has become a huge topic world over. The stresses at every level have skyrocketed and many times people realize that someone has been gone under the bridge too far when it is too late. The academic challenges, increasing fee, and a lot many factors have made students extremely vulnerable.
One such case has happened in Faisalabad’s Institute Of Engineering and Fertilizer Research when a student took his own life by shooting himself. A lecturer at the University Engineer Rizwan Shah discovered the student when he took his own life. He called 1122 who said that it is not their case and call 15. The lecturer called 15 three times and they did not pick up the phone. He finally managed to get a van and took the student to a hospital but it was too late. The student Saifullah was dead and he left a heartbreaking suicide note. He asked his parents and teachers for forgiveness and asked the doctors not to save him.
Students of the university are protesting and asking for justice for Saifullah. According to them, the story is not that simple. Saifullah committed suicide because he failed in the exams and a particular teacher failed him three times. The university has not issued any statement yet so things are not clear.
A precious life was lost to increasing academic pressures. Its high time we spread awareness about mental health.
The film industry is growing by leaps and bounds and this has given filmmakers the courage to make more films. Pakistani films which started from scratch a few years back are now doing business in crores. Recently three movies, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, Parwaaz Hai Junoon and Load Wedding were released and they all did smashing business at the box office.
Among the filmmakers who started to take risks in the very initial stages of industry development, Yasir Nawaz is one who made the comedy Wrong No. starring Danish Taimoor and Sohai Ali Abro in the lead roles. The film went on to become a dark horse and did great at the box office. The actor/director then made Mehrunnisa V Lub U which also was a hit. He is now gearing up for another film and it is Wrong No’s sequel. The film will have Sami Khan and Neelum Muneer in the lead roles. This will be Neelum’s second film after Chupan Chupai. She is currently working with Yair Nawaz in Dil Mom Ka Diya and Sami has worked with him in the hit Khudgarz.
The script is done and the film’s shoot will start later this year. Wrong No. will release in 2019 after Eid.
Hania Aamir is an actress who has done many big projects in a short period of time. She is one of the most successful actresses in Pakistan right now. Debuting through Janaan, Hania went along to do projects like Parwaaz Hai Junoon, Na Maloom Afraad 2, Titli and the recently concluded Visaal.
Shahzad Sheikh is also on a hit spree with dramas like Alif Allah Aur Insaan and Ghar Titli Ka Par at his track record. The actors are now going to star together and it looks like a great project happening. The drama is being shot in the scenic Chitral. The drama Kainaat will have Shahzad Sheikh playing the role of a Nawab and Hania’s character will fall in love with him. Ohkay so, this episode of Koi Chand Rakh was alright. It focused more & more on the mental state of all the characters because each & everyone had one thing or the other on their minds. I wonder if this marriage was only bringing sweats & tears with it, why did they all go ahead with it anyway?
Developments:
As I mentioned last week, Ibrar finding the truth about Nishal & Zain won’t make any difference & he proved me right. Ibrar was engrossed in his thoughts but didn’t even bother having a conversation with Zain. Was Ibrar feeling sad for his son or was he again feeling this sense of pride of that his son respected the promise he made to his friend – that is still a mystery. Also, I am sure Ibrar’s character couldn’t have taken a more typical turn than to have a heart attack as suggested in the precap of next episode of Koi Chand Rakh!!! Yeah right! Ibrar again had the power to stop it all but he chose to become a silent spectator because he didn’t have the courage to explain the truth to those 20 baraati!
Rabail again spoke to Umair wanting him to take care of his family & coming to terms with the reality. Umair has loved Rabail with all his heart & it is nice to see him respecting everything she says. Obviously it will take time for him to get over & move on but attending the wedding & seeing Rabail go marked a new beginning for him as well. Rabail’s character is the only one in Koi Chand Rakh so far that has been written with clarity & the writer has made her reasons detailed, that is why it is easy to understand & feel for her whereas other characters, excluding Umair, just seem to be reacting without a reason as I haven’t formed a connection with them.
Zain was upset, he was struggling, even though he was putting up a facade in front of Nishal to let her know that he doesn’t care but deep inside he was hurt with the step he was about to take. To be honest, even though enough focus was given to show the rollercoaster ride of emotions that all these characters were going through, I felt a lot more for Rabail & Umair than I did for Nishal & Zain because their falling in love like instant 2 minute noodle was not that convincing for me to feel that they were faced with a biggest hardship in their lives!
Zain & Rabail had a first interaction where Rabail tried to make some promises & Zain showed her his real face. Zain will continue to compare Rabail with Nishal all the time & that is why he chose to walk away from her as he couldn’t get Nishal out of his mind. Again, my point remains, if he had mustered up some courage before, to beshak ye drama na banta lekin ye sab bhi na hota, lol!
Closing Thoughts:
Overall, this episode of Koi Chand Rakh was alright & there was not much that was shown because a lot of focus was on rona dhona again. The only good thing about this episode was that we didn’t get to see much of Nishal as she was hovering in the background. Anyways, the preview of the next episode did seem typical but interesting, I say typical because after seeing his father’s condition, Zain will have to deal with Rabail in a civil manner, let’s see how things roll. During an interview with HSY, Asim Azhar disagreed with Hadiqa Kayani being a legend. He said that legend is such a big word and a legend is the one who influences the masses. This news was spread on social media making all the different meanings from Asim’s statement So Asim took to twitter to clarify the statement that he had made and explained what he was actually saying.
Asim tweeted, “I have recently come across a statement that I made on a TV show recently floating around regarding me not considering Hadiqa Kayani Ma’am a legend. I feel like my words have been put out of proportion and certain media outlets are cashing in on it. I said what I said because the word legend for me is too big of a word and when I think of the word legend, names like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab, Abida Parveen jee come to my mind only because of the amount of revolution their music has brought through decades.”
He while explaining his admiration to Hadiqa further said, “With that being Said Hadiqa Kayani Jee is not Short of an icon herself for not only women but all artists and art lovers. In fact she is definitely on her way to become a legend in my eyes. Even though I myself am no one to put my opinion regarding this publically but I feel like it was important to because of the amount of people who follow and idiolise us. I would never encourage disrespecting anybody and especially your seniors”.
Asim lastly said that Hadiqa’s “Dupatta mera malmal ka” was and is her jam.
It is an age of social media and sponsorships. If you have excellent content but don’t have the sponsorship it would not reach the audience. Momina herself started her career as a musician from social media. She says if it weren’t for social media she would not have started her musical career.
On a recent interview with HSY Momina said that because there are no record label companies or music channels left these days so artists have no other choice but to work with different brands for sponsorships. According to Momina, if an artist won’t let brands sponsor his work than their content can’t have that much visibility and it doesn’t reach that bigger of an audience.
Momina was of an opinion that as working with brands is a two way street, so when a brand puts so much effort to sponsor your content than there is bound to be a creative interference with your work. That’s how your content loses its originality and it doesn’t remain organic.
Momina also added that people want to pay you extra so as to make you endorse their brands but she doesn’t believe in endorsing the products or brands that she hasn’t used or that she doesn’t believe in.
Asim Azhar comes from a family of artists. His father, Azhar Hussain was an ace in playing Piano and he was one of the renowned musicians of Pakistan. His mother Gul-e-Rana is a senior and fruitful TV performing artist.
Asim on a recent interview with Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, said that in comparison to actors who spent so much energy and effort and have to stay in heavy light and heavy makeup for most of the day, musicians are comparatively spoiled. He said that musicians without a doubt, have to work really hard to get somewhere but acting is a very tough job when compared to any other profession. He said that he has seen his mother and other actors on the sets so he knows how tough the drill is.
Asim further added that with diminishing music channels and record label companies, Musicians have become more independent and they can do anything and everything without any time crunch but this is not the case with actors.
HSY while adding to the point that Asim had made, said that actors spend twenty hours on sets pouring in their sweat and blood but singers and musicians come in with one or two songs and they become a hit.

The most annoying characters of Pakistani dramas in 2018 were all those characters which got on our nerves, made us grit our teeth and clinch our fists! These characters were intolerable and tested the patience of the viewers. Most of them also repeatedly gave the viewers a lot of reasons to wonder what the writers were thinking while penning these characters down and why would any actor even choose to play these roles! Some of these characters were even more irritating because the actors playing these roles brought out the worse in them! Some of these actors literally sank into these characters and as a result made these annoying characters come alive on screen in all their glory!
Here is the list of those annoying characters in Pakistani dramas in 2018 who tested the patience of the viewers.
Azra (Mere Bewafa)
“Bewafa” hei magar “Mera” hei!
Azra’s bechargi and her sadgi (read: bewakoofi) were two of the most annoying aspects of her character. She was the ultimate victim who kept on fooling the viewers by giving them hope that she might actually make a sane decision but in the end like a gherulu mashriqi lrki with no self-respect whatsoever went back to her two-timing equally annoying husband. Azra’s character was even more annoying because she was shown as a sensible and intelligent woman otherwise but she spent most of her time crying and feeling bad for herself. Azra’s pity party was not fun to attend and made us cry more in the end for sitting through the torture than Azra did in 20 plus weeks! It was upsetting watching someone like Sarah Khan settle for a role like this.
Shahmir (Mere Bewafa)
Meri bewafai nahi, meri khoobsurati dekhei!
Yes! Agha Ali made sure that he invested tons of time and energy in looking like the perfect bewafa husband that ever was. Everything from his hairstyle to his shoes was always on point probably because this character had nothing else going for it! It can be safely concluded that the makers of this drama were convinced that if the hero looks good enough, the viewers, just like the leading lady will forgive and forget everything he did in the end. Shahmir’s character was the most pointless and conscienceless male lead we saw in our dramas this year. An overgrown man who acted like a toddler when it came to taking responsibility for his actions – this bewafa hero was terribly annoying! Azra might have fallen for Shahmir’s khoobsurati but we did not!
Shafaq (Ghar Titli Ka Par)
Taking bholapan to a whole new level!
Mrs. Bhola
Shafaq can easily be termed as the most dimwit heroine we saw on our television screens this year. Sweet enough to give anyone a cavity and stupid enough to give everyone who watched her on-screen a headache, Shafaq truly should go and claim her throne in Looney land. Shafaq took naivety to a new level which was impossible to relate to. She could not see the obvious for the longest time and even when she found out the truth about Anji, she always had the hardest time speaking for herself. Shafaq’s biggest flaw was her bholapan which was exaggerated to the limit. Her scenes were painful to watch and even though she was the victim, there were so many times when it felt like she totally deserved what she got! Sorry Shafaq, you are so thick, we can’t feel your pain!
Azar (Ghar Titli Ka Par)
Mr.Bhola
Mr. and Mrs. Bhola were a match made in Looney land! While Shafaq was bholi enough to trust Anji, Azar’s bholapan was the reason why he got trapped in Anji’s “trap”! These two taught the viewers a valuable lesson – whenever in trouble play bhola (read: the victim) and don’t ever take responsibility for your actions. Azar had an affair with Anji and conveniently blamed her for it. He asked her to live with him and told her to get out because log kya kaheinge! He was another one of those soft-headed leading males this year who put the viewers off completely.
Arham (Woh Mera Dil Tha)
Spineless, useless, clueless and expressionless!
Arham was one of the most annoying supporting characters this year. His explanation for backing out from his commitment and his lame excuses throughout were terribly annoying. Thankfully, this was one character which the viewers were supposed to hate but he was also annoying to the limit nevertheless. Furqan Qureshi underplayed this character to such an extent that it lacked any personality whatsoever.
Mirha (Ishq Tamasha)
Meesniyo ki malka!
Mirha’s character in Ishq Tamasha was a lot like Shafaq, the only difference was that Mirha’s twisted sense of morality and her holier-than-thou personality was even more annoying than Shafaq’s bholapan! The way Mirha, the masoom meesni, lived in Mehrab’s house and looked after him but never acknowledged or showed her feelings for him made her one of the biggest hypocrites we have seen on-screen this year. Even though Mirha lectured Mehrab about being unfair and cruel to Rushna but in the end she was more than happy to have this rich and “good looking” man in her life. Right till the end she did not reveal her feelings for Mehrab which is why we can easily crown her as meesniyo ki malka!
Mehrab (Ishq Tamasha)
Ki jana mei kon!!!!
Yes! Who was Mehrab really? The savior or the sadist? A character which was graceful and intelligent in the beginning turned into an vengeful imbecile whose negativity was supposed to be “charming”!! Mehrab’s character took a turn for the worse when he decided to marry Rushna and after that he had no identity whatsoever. Mehrab’s character was the weird combination of an angry man with a rage but a “heart of gold” (not sure how!). Mehrab’s happy ending was the worst part of a play which did not have a lot going for it already!
Sila (Khasara)
Nadeedi # 1
Sila was someone who had her priorities messed as well as mixed up. She was married to a devoted husband but it wasn’t enough for her, why? Because this Rani of Ranipur wanted to ditch her hometown and get settled in big city for the sake of her sons’ bright future. Being a mum of 2, she was so masoom to decipher Mohtasim’s flirtations and in her bouts of masoomiyat, she ended up flirting with him too. She was so over her husband that she fell in love with Mohtasim BHAI only because he had this wealth which he had borrowed from his wife. Even after getting the wealth she was after, her son and his bright future was the last thing on her mind, convenient much? Also, the fact that Sonia Mishal played this character made things even worse.
Mohtasim (Khasara)
Tharki of the century
This guy had everything rolling, he had everything working for him. He had a wife who loved him to bits, a son, a huge home and a luxurious lifestyle which he got as a reward for getting married to a wealthy girl but guess what, all he had to do was extend loyalty to his wife for all that she had done for him but he made it look like she was asking for too much. It was disgusting to see him flaunting and spending the wealth that belonged to his wife on other women.
Noor-ul-Ain (Noor-ul-Ain)
Putting boredom to sleep
Bore-ul-Ain aka Noor-ul-Ain had no idea why she came to this world. She had no idea why she was born. She had zero concept of what being loyal to her parents meant, may be she didn’t even know they were her parents. Bore ul Ain had no idea why she fell in love. She also had no idea why and how did she get married to Khizar? It won’t be wrong to say that she was the most boring and annoying character that we got to see recently. Noor-ul-Ain was clueless to the core that is why she had no idea why she took such a huge step as she conveniently wanted to blame her Chachi for planning it all but it was good to see Ghazala outbidding and deceiving Bore-ul-Ain, this is what you get for being a toddler at the age of 20.
Zamani (Pukaar)

Be it her overall persona or those strands that were curled to look like one – she was a snake of the house who had taken a form of a human being in Sultan Mansion. Zamani didn’t know how to mind her own business and she fed a lot onto the negativity. She was so annoying that she sent shiver down viewers’ spine everytime she came on screen. Zamani was the reason why things always went wrong in that house and the fact that she planned Zulekha’s murder made her deplorable. Also yes, she sent a snake to murder Zulekha which seals the deal that she had a strong connection with snakes!
Laali Ma (Pukaar)
Rassi jal gai par bal nahi gaya
Laali Ma was a picture of all those mum in law’s who feed onto negativity and feel this complex and jealousy from the newly wedded brides. Laali Ma took zulm to a whole new level and not to forget, all those norms and customs that she held onto basically using as an excuse to make Samra’s life far more difficult than it actually was. In the end Laali Ma did justify her wrongdoings by saying she was taking the brunt of her unfulfilled wishes on Samra but then again, is that even fair? How annoying!

The girl who was introduced as an opinionated individual who questioned her husband’s intentions and feudal mindset every step of the way became this silent sally whose only activity for a good period of the time was to to climb up and down from the staircase. Samra accepted everything that Laali Ma put her through which made her becharapan look forced and coerced. Samra could have taken a stand for herself at least but she chose not to because she seemed to be enjoying her position of being a brand ambassador of Bechari™.
