Atif Aslam’s rendition of the old classic “Chalte Chalte” for the upcoming Bollywood film Mitron did not get the kind of appreciation from Lata Mageshkar, who originally sung the song for the iconic film Pakeeza, which the singer might have been hoping for. Tanishk Bagchi was behind the music and lyrics for this cover version. The music for the original song was given by Ghulam Mohammed and the lyrics were written by Kaifi Azmi.
Pink Villa reported that when Lata Mangeshkar was asked to comment on this rendition, she remarked,
“I don’t want to hear it. This trend of remixing old songs saddens me. Where is the creativity in simply lifting acknowledged, beloved classics and shuffling the notes around? I’ve even heard that the lyrics are changed in the remixes. By whose consent?”
Ohkay so, the production of Big Bang Productions, direction of Badar Mehmood & the writing of Zanjabeel Asim Shah – Balaa is a prime time drama that airs on Monday on ARY Digital. The first double episode of Balaa laid the foundation in which the drama is set & elaborated the dynamics between the characters & their families – where one family has made it based on their hard work & the other one has this sense of entitlement which can also be classified as a superiority complex!
Zafar (Sajid Hassan) has a daughter Nigar (Ushna Shah) & a son Junaid (Asad Siddique). Nigar is physically disabled but she uses it to her advantage. Junaid got married to Zeba, an orphan in order to save her from getting married to a man twice her age but Zafar & Nigar make sure to use it against him only to make him feel guilty all the time. Usually people think that those who are physically disabled are polite & do not blame anyone else for their hindrances but Nigar on the other hand has an inflated ego & it won’t be an understatement to say that she is quite a manipulating & conniving person who thinks she is entitled to everyone’s respect even if she doesn’t extend it towards them. Zafar is also responsible for Nigar’s attitude & the way she has turned out because he has gone out of the way to make her feel she is loved, so much so that he has fed it to her soul that she is someone super special & has the right to look down upon people even if it is her brother or his wife. Nigar is beautiful but unfortunately her personality is ugly!
Taimoor (Bilal Abbas Khan) is Zafar’s nephew. Taimoor’s father passed away & he has worked really very hard to bring himself to the level that he can now take care of his family which consists of his mother (Samina Peerzada) & 2 sisters Saleha & Batool. They are a close knit family that only speaks the language of love & respect with each other. Saleha takes after her mother in having a God-fearing heart whereas Taimoor & Batool are practical & not overly emotional to an extent of putting people before them even if they don’t deserve it.
Zafar pays a visit to Taimoor’s place on the occassion of Saleha’s engagement but just then & there he lets everyone know what his deceased brother’s family means to him by looking down on them. Zafar makes sure to let Saleha’s fiancé know that he is a wealthy businessman only because of his daughter’s luck. Zafar uses Nigar’s luck as a billboard to advertise how much wealth he has accumulated over the years. Nigar sees Taimoor on the engagement & that is when she lets her father know that she likes him & would want to get married to him.
On Taimoor’s front, he likes his family friend Saba but when his mother puts forth his proposal, Saba lets her mother Rashida know that she is interested in someone else. Even though Saba mother accepts Taimoor’s proposal then & there, I am sure Saba will make it very clear to her later on that she will not get married to Taimoor. Everyone in Taimoor’s family rejoices over the news of his marriage with Saba but Zafar who comes to fix the marriage of Nigar & Taimoor ruins everything. It was good to see Taimoor standing up for himself & reminding Zafar that he shouldn’t play the Taya or Ghar Ka Bara card because he never once showed up at their doorstep after they lost their father but then Zafar being the unreasonable person he is, tries to pressurize Taimoor as well as his mother to accept Nigar’s proposal or else he will make sure everyone else cut ties with their family.
Zafar’s unreasonability can be measured with his order to Junaid to divorce Zeba & get married to Batool in order to prove it to Taimoor that Zafar treats them as a family. Even Junaid knows that he has no value in Zafar’s eyes & he is saying all of that to fix Nigar’s wedding but then even he starts thinking on those lines & to make matters worse, he lets Zeba know who loses her calm giving a rise to another mayhem. Nigar who already was on Zeba’s case makes sure to play the victim card & blame it all on Junaid & Zeba whereas deep inside, she feels shattered that Taimoor rejected her proposal & for a girl like Nigar who can’t take no for an answer – it is a big deal.
Well, a lot happened in the first two episodes & because of the way this drama has been directed along with the way the actors have acted, it surely has piqued my interest & I will be looking forward to the rest of the story. Even though the scenario with which the drama has begun is not something new but with Zanjabeel Asim Shah as a writer, I am ready to invest my time in this drama as I am sure she is going to bring something amazing to the table. Everyone acted brilliantly & it did look like everyone has worked really hard on the look of their characters to make them look realistic but I am not too sure why Ushna Shah chose to wear a wig in stead of relying on her natural hair? Everything else was good & just the way it should have been. These weree two very strong episodes which I will most certainly recommend to the drama buffs. I am definitely looking forward to the next set of episodes. Please share your thoughts.

Making more than 30 episodes has become quite a trend for some time now. If a drama is getting good TRPs and millions of views on Youtube, it can even cross 40 and still remain on-air. Ishq Tamasha has been a hit as far as ratings are concerned. So, it is going through a bit of repetition right now to touch the golden 30 mark.
Mirha is living in a hostel now and she keeps talking in a miserable tone to her very good roommate because that is her ultimate style after all. However, one thing that caused me a lot of relief was the leading lady finally choosing self-respect over love. She did not fall to her knees and accepted Wahaj’s love again, she held her ground and gave him a shut up call which he strongly deserved. She has finally reached some stability in life.
Wahaj was again a loser. His character is a loser to the extent of annoying the audience. He found Mirha and tried his best to reach her and after he succeeded what did he do? Kon Hai Jis Ki Khatir Mujhe Chorna Chahti Ho? He is either psychotic or is suffering from amnesia since he heard himself that Mirha was not wrong. But when he found her, he still questioned her decision in a very wrong light. When you keep defaming and slandering a woman, how the hell can you ask her why is she leaving you? And yeah he is going to Dubai just like that. In two hours! Wahaj is so popular he doesn’t even need a visa.
Aqeela is still headstrong and is ready to lose her only son. She still is not comprising in any situation and Rushna has finally succumbed to her deadly headache. And as expected Mehrab is not really interested in her as he is busy finding Mirha. Rushna has become extremely irrelevant and we only see her for some demos of headaches. Palwasha’s track is still boring with no further development.
This episode was more of a drag and filler rather than any progression!

Depression is a disease affecting every third person in our society. The reasons are many including the increased demands in every field of life as well as majorly the increasing insensitivity of people towards others’ feelings. The latest victim to this horrendous phenomenon was 26-year-old model Anam Naveed Tanoli. She was found dead in Lahore. Anam committed suicide after facing extensive bullying online as well as getting judged for her career choice:
Anam’s own message about bullying has surfaced online. She is seen talking about the psyche of people who do this awful act towards others. This is what Anam thought of bullies:
Mental illnesses are real. A very young soul succumbed to it. If anyone see someone getting bullied, then stand up for them and if you are the ones going through this trauma, be strong and seek help if you have to!
Anam Tanoli’s tragic demise has left everyone in shock. Some from the Fashion fraternity whether knew her personally or not took to social media and talked about mental health and cyber bullying. Upcoming model, Anam Naveed Tanoli’s body was found yesterday from DHA Lahore.
Her death nevertheless started a new debate. Many are talking about the importance of mental health and the stigmas surrounding it and some of the stars are using their star power for the cause.
Armeena Khan
Armeena Khan is known for being vocal about her political views and she isn’t quietly sitting around this time either. The Janaan starlet took to her twitter and said,
“A young, up and coming Pakistani in model died yesterday. On the face of it, it looks like suicide by hanging. I wonder what could possibly have driven a talented young girl like that to take her own life,”
Mawra Hocane took to her Instagram and expressed her grief and concern on Anam Tanoli’s tragic death,
“I didn’t know her personally but I’m devastated that a young beautiful girl succumbed to the bullies around her, I spoke to a close friend of hers who told me how deeply she was affected by social media trolling and bullying at work.”
She continued,
“She was suffering from depression and the world was ruthless regardless. I wish she was stronger but I also wish that we were kinder, all of us. Be on a watch, anyone around us could be suffering from depression and your words can take someone’s life,”
“I’m sorry Anam Tanoli on behalf of everyone who pushed you take such a step. My condolences and love to the family,”
“PS: We may be out here for you on social platforms but we are just like you. We get hurt, we break but we endure and put the broken pieces together to run another show for all of you. Be kind, it won’t cost you a thing. Please be kind, considerate and compassionate for others and their hearts,”
She concluded,
“It is about time we treat depression as an illness so we can comfort the ones suffering, at least. Seek medical help without reluctance. Please don’t be afraid of the society, protect yourself first,”
Momina Mustehsan
Momina Mustehsan has talked about her own experience with mental illness before, this time around she posted,
“This is a picture of me from when I was going through turmoil not very long ago. It happens to the best of us. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and we all hit points in our lives sometimes when all seems to be falling out of our control.”
The fashion designer took to Facebook to share his thoughts on mental illness. He wrote,
“Amidst all the awards and celebration, the tragic suicide of Anam Tanoli has been totally sidelined and not been addressed by the fashion fraternity,”
Further adding he said,
“I never knew Anam or worked with her but the awful stories surrounding her suicide are a wake up call for all those of us who still have a conscience and some shred of humanity left,”
He continued,
“Stories of body shaming and downright vicious attacks on a young vulnerable girl are hugely disturbing and what is even more disturbing is a total lack of remorse, sadness or indignation on her passing,”
He concluded,
“I am ashamed Anam and sorry I was silent at the injustice you faced at the hands of the fraternity I am part of. Rest in peace Anam because I certainly cannot,”
Social media bullying in general and bullying in the fashion industry in particular can break the strongest. The only way we can fight mental illness is by taking it as seriously as physical illnesses. We do not know the fights each of us is fighting so try to be as kind as you can be and save lives.

These two episodes of Woh Mera Dil Tha had many important developments to their credit. They were thoroughly entertaining and also had a few unexpected twists. There are very few dramas which are so convincing that after watching them you don’t have to wonder what why and if and this is turning out to be one such dramas. The characters are intriguing and likeable at the same time. Even when Zaid’s character annoys you with his selfishness, you fully understand why he is like this and Sami Khan makes it so easy for the viewers to not hate this character altogether! Sami Khan and Madiha Imam also share good on-screen chemistry because of which their scenes are always a pleasure to watch. Faiza Iftikhar’s dramas always have a surprise in store and her characters are easy to connect to. Also, her heroines are most often different from the two extremes we see in our dramas all the time. Naina’s character could easily have come across as one of those gullible leading ladies had she not questioned the way she was feeling every now and then. Also, Zaid, the master manipulator, left no stone unturned to make sure that Naina believed her.
These two episodes were so exciting and happening that I am not sure where to start from! It seems like Zaid has fallen for Naina while trying to make her fall in love with him. Naina too is truly obliged and attracted towards Zaid if not completely in love with him. There was a time when Zaid was not even interested in getting to know Naina because he was so sure that he already knew her so well. In these few episodes, he made a conscious attempt to spend time with Naina not because he liked her but because he was scared that Naina might go back to Arham. When Zaid started convincing Naina that he was in love with her he only did so because he could not imagine living without all the luxuries but in the latest episode for the first time it seemed like he had actually started appreciating the likeable aspects of Naina’s personality. Zaid just found out that Naina was a different person now and he also for the first time questioned himself for using someone! This was an important and unexpected change in his character.
Until last week, he was so busy covering up for himself and executing his plan that he did not have the time to think about how wrong his approach was. It was good to see this change in his personality but it will not be easy for him regain Naina’s trust once she finds out what he has been up to.
Naina has started seeing Zaid as a more responsible individual than she thought he was. She is also convinced that Zaid is actually capable of loving someone. Sami Khan’s brilliant performance is one of the main reasons why this latest development has been so easy to connect to. Naina’s character is extremely likeable and equally convincing. The writer has made sure that the viewers understand well why Naina has changed so much. She always had material possessions but she never had someone who trusted her completely. She thinks she finally has the kind of family she always wished she had therefore the worldly possessions don’t mean anything to her.
Zaid has changed but at the same time he is still playing games with Naina and also tried to convince himself that he did not need to be so honest! These conversations which the characters have with themselves reveal a great deal about what is going on in their mind and help the viewers understand them better. I really appreciate the fact that the writer did not leave much to the viewers imagination because in such situations especially, it isn’t fun wondering what the character’s actual motives are. We know that Zaid is changing and we also know that he is noticing these changes but trying to fight them at the same time. These conflicts and struggles makes these characters more relatable.
Arham and Zaid finally met, Zaid told him the truth with some modifications here and there. Arham and Naina’s meeting would be next and right now it is easy to predict how that will go but there are many reasons to look forward to it nonetheless. The viewers will know how Naina truly feels about her relationship with Zaid when she meets Arham. Naina does not lie or play games therefore whatever she says to Arham will be the truth. Also, it remains to be seen if Arham will try and remind Naina that Zaid is not reliable.
Naina’s relationship with her in laws was the most endearing part of these two episodes. Zaid’s never-ending mind games, kept these two episodes interesting and happening. The performances, the script and the direction could not have been better!
Ohkay so, as much as I hoping that wasn’t the case, the preview of the next episode confirmed the spoiler alert that I got from some genius last week about Bubbly & her misfortune. I so hoped that things will become better & only better in her life but looks like this story is about something entirely different altogether, which now I don’t mind considering the sort of treatment the team will give to that subject. I must say, it is commendable that the drama-makers kept the actual deal under wraps & if it wasn’t for the precap, I am sure no one could’ve guessed where the story is headed & what it really is about.
Feeka succeeded in convincing Bubbly that he wanted their marriage to work. Bubbly was unsure & she had the right to be because of what he put her through. To be honest, apart from Muneer, I didn’t really get touched by other’s reactions, not even Kulsoom’s because even she was mad at Bubbly for leaving Feeka’s house without bothering to know about what the circumstances were that pushed her to that limit. I was wondering if it wasn’t for Sunny, no one would have believed Bubbly, not Feeka, not even her parents. Sigh!
Well, Nasreen tried to bring Feeka back but looks like he has made up his mind as he knows that he has zero tolerance left for Nikki & Nasreen chooses not to let her go. Feeka’s belief in himself for the first time was nice to see. He didn’t bother about anything else but only kept Bubbly as his priority & for the first time he has this faith in himself that he will do what it takes to make things works for himself & his wife, without the support or security blanket provided by his mother which is a huge change that Feeka has brought in himself considering how he never was the one to take such decisions before.
Sunny may have proved his love to Bubbly & though things must have been done & dusted for her but as far as Sunny is concerned, things are far from being over. Sunny has a storm brewing up in his mind & he is not giving up. I thought after the pep talk Bubbly gave to him, Sunny will let go of her but no, he doesn’t intend to & with Chitta Jee’s reminders, it does look like his obsession for Bubbly will take an ugly turn but you never know, it could be Feeka too.
I must say just the glimpse of the actual scene in the precap sent shivers down my spine so I really can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to see it actually happening in the next episode. I am interested to see how this entire subject will be dealt with because of its sensitive nature. The writer deserves to be commended to bring us a story of this sort & show it in such a convincing manner because the victims of acid attack do exist in our society & survive this battle alone or at times with some support. Imran Ashraf took the crown in this episode, the way he has elaborated the disturbed mental & emotional state of Sunny, I can only say he is a gifted actor. Well done!!! Please share your thoughts.
Sajal Aly is a versatile actress who keeps on changing her looks to fit the role she is playing. This time she will be part of an upcoming mega project “Aangan” in which she will be starring opposite Ahad Raza Mir. Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly’s jodi was a hit with the audience when their drama Yakeen Ka Safar went on air. The viewers cannot wait to see these two together in a drama again. HUM Style Awards are naturally all about style so the celebrities who attend it always try their best to be stylish and different. The fact is that looking different doesn’t always mean you will also look stylish! Like every other year evening gowns were the ladies first choice and the men wore dress suits. This time neither the women or the men experimented a lot. Evening ball gowns in almost all colors were seen on the red carpet while the men played it safe by keeping their dress suits pretty basic. The styling was much better than it was in the Hum Awards and the make-up was way better too. It was difficult to choose the best dressed celebrities because no one looked extraordinary but we picked the looks which we thought were the better ones among the lot.
Amna Illyas
Among all the evening gowns Amna Illays’ looked the most elegant. The color is vibrant and therefore fit for the occasion. The cut and the designing too is different and stylish. Amna played it safe too but at the same time pulled off a look which was way better than others. Amna Illyas always carries herself well. The minimalistic party make-up looks good on her too. We also like the tied hair on her, they look neat and trendy at the same time.
Mawra Hocane
We are so glad that someone wore something other than an evening gown! We are especially happy because this time Mawra ditched the fairytale look altogether. Her saree looks elegant and the tied hair is new since she hardly ever ties her hair when she attends parties. The make-up is different too, it is more bronze than it is fair which is also a first. Her overall look could have been even better if she complimented it with more accessories but we definitely like the fact that she experimented and succeeded at it!
Zeba Bakhtiar
Zeba Bakhtiar always looks elegant no matter what she wears. We like her formal and somewhat traditional look. This dress if perfect for an evening like this one. The make-up and styling isn’t perfect but her overall look is good.
Annie Jaffrey
We love the colors in this dress. It is fun and fancy at the same time. Annie Jaffrey’s entire look is pleasant. Her hairstyle really suits her and her make-up is perfect too. Annie didn’t go overboard and neither does she look underdressed which is why she is in this list.
Faraz Farooqui
Faraz Farooqui looks dapper in this dress suits. The color combination and the way he is carrying if off couldn’t have been better. Faraz kept it simple and stylish which sometimes is enough. His styling is also much better than many of the other male celebrities who did not pay a lot of attention to that aspect.

ARY Digital’s latest project starring Yasir Nawaz, Neelam Muneer and Imran Ashraf started airing recently. For the promotion of this play the cast was invited to Nida Yasir’s morning show ‘Good Morning Pakistan’. In the play Yasir plays the role of a very submissive husband and since Yasir and Nida are married in real life Nida enjoyed every bit of this character. She loved how Neelam plays an authoritative wife in the show and actually calls Yasir ‘Mota aur buddha’.
Other than the play the cast also talked about their personal life experiences. Neelam Munir was called ‘dentonic’ by her friends because of how much she laughed on the other hand Nida was called ‘suki’ because of how skinny she was. When narrating the weirdest experience with common people Yasir narrated that while his sit-com was being aired one day he was standing on the road waiting for his driver as a guy walked up to him placed his hand on Yasir’s tummy and said ‘Boss isko kam karo’.
Neelam narrated this one time when she was outside with her sister and ‘Crazy Kia Ray’ from Dhoom was the latest number those days a guy catcalled her and said ‘sexy lady on the floor’.
Talking about the play Imran Ashraf said that he was taken back by how good an actor Yasir is. Neelam Munir also added that Yasir is very supportive while many actors would have altered the script because they didn’t want to be called fat or old he was not only okay with it but also added the word ‘mota’ in that scene.
The cast later played different games including cooking and guess the celebrity.
