Last Episode of Drama Udaari – A Video Review By Hamna.
Udaari Last Episode – Bol Ke Lub Azad Hein Tere!!
This was an amazing last episode, truly gratifying and filled with positivity. There is a quote, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing!”, tonight’s episode of Udaari showed how a few good people can bring about a major change! This episode was filled with positive messages and many questions that directly identified the reasons because of which a rape victim is unable to go to the authorities to get justice. So far all the stories involving the issue of sexual abuse in our dramas ended with the victim getting married in the end or reconciling with their spouse, Udaari for the first time showed an ending all the viewers were longing to see. Zebu’s future is bright like the shiniest star in the sky because she knows exactly what she wants from life; she has a big purpose in life now. Zebu’s story’s ending is the perfect example of the triumph of good over evil; she has been shown as an extraordinary girl who discovered a part of herself she did not know existed only because of everything she went through. In the end Arsh did not only win the case but also Meeran’s heart, completely. And his dream of performing on the stage also came true! The trial was covered flawlessly with some very emotional moments but the highlight of this episode was the scene which showed that Zebu had a new mission in life and was not afraid of anything or anyone now. It was also great watching Sajida confess that she was wrong but she had learned a very important lesson from her fearless daughter. Sheedan’s minimal role in the past few episodes and absence from the trial altogether tonight clearly suggests that Bushra Ansari was not able to make it to the shootings, which is quite sad because the viewers loved her character, presence and acting in Udaari. Pakistani viewers get to watch dramas which are entertaining very often but most of them do not always have a real message. Udaari was one of those very few dramas which did not only focus on a very real, serious and tabooed issue but it also did so with precision. It did not only show women who were empowered completely but most importantly a victim who stayed firm against all odds. It will be remembered as a drama which instead of relying on clichés and stereotypes attempted to set new standards. The most important message which this drama put forth was that the victim gets to choose whether he or she wants to continue being a victim or would rather be a survivor. It also showed that no matter how invincible a rapist thinks he is, he will eventually be prosecuted and punished if the victim decides to take a stand for herself. In the last few episodes Imtiaz’s downfall was directly proportional to the amount of confidence Zebu gained.
Another aspect of Udaari which is truly commendable is that it did not misguide people into believing that choosing to be survivor is easy. Also, Udaari showed that sometimes all a rape victim needs is support from people who love her and someone who can guide her in the right direction. Udaari was truly inspiring for all the viewers because of many characters which were strong and positive. Each one of these characters had a story to tell. The difference people like Arsh, Munira and even Milli made in the lives of individuals who were very different from them went to show that people who are affluent can change the lives of those who are less fortunate with some effort and a lot of dedication. Farhat Ishtiaq deserves tons of credit for taking a road less travelled. Udaari wasn’t the kind of play which required imagination and creativity alone but it also required a lot of research. Farhat Ishtiaq definitely did her homework well and as a result of that the final product proved that the viewers do not always watch dramas with typical and done-to-death stories. The viewers gave their verdict by giving Udaari the ratings it deserved. The director Mohammad Ehteshammudin had a strong grip on the story and knew exactly what was expected from him. He dared to be different by casting an actor like Ahsan Khan in the kind of role which he has never played before. Ahsan Khan has played negative characters before but never one like that of Imtiaz. Ahsan Khan proved what a versatile actor he is by nailing his role and making it unforgettable. Also, with the exception of Ins-e-Yazdan the entire cast did their job well. Urwa Hocane was another actress who was seen in a very different avatar in Udaari. Farhan Saeed’s performance in Udaari has won him many new fans. Bushra Ansari’s character and acting both were on point. Sheedan’s character challenged stereotypes; a person can be strong and liberal even without getting any formal education. Sammiya Mumtaz is a natural actor who always gives every role she plays her very best and this time around too, although there were times when viewers expected slightly more from her character, her performance never faltered. The child star Areesha who played Zebu’s character when she was young has to be one of the most promising actors about the younger lot. Aqeel Abbas who played the role of Zebu’s mamu is another actor who is immensely talented and I am sure many viewers would want to see him on screen more often. Hina Altaf truly delivered when Zebu’s character took the turn the viewers were not even expecting it to take.
Most of the dramas nowadays either show women as helpless creatures or as conniving characters who cannot see other women happy. Udaari showed a lot of women who supported each other and proved that a woman does not always need a man in her life to save her! I would like to thank MD Productions and Kashf foundation for highlighting this issue and at the same time giving us a story and characters which entertained us for many weeks. Our producers are constantly complaining that viewers don’t want to see social issues being highlighted in dramas and would much rather watch the same old stories but Udaari’s viewership proved that viewers will watch and appreciate quality content if it is presented well on screen. A big thanks to all those amazing readers who gave their feedback every week. Your comments made the discussions productive and lively.
Thora Sa Aasman Episode 09 – A Selfless Friendship!
Ohkay so, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode of Thora Sa Aasman as well. I must say, for a change, I am liking this drama because even though it is focusing on showcasing the realities, it has got nothing to do with the realities of ‘marital life’ that our writers these days are obsessed with. Even though I know that the dramas that are based on the novels rarely do justice to the essence of it but I feel that our novel writers explore more options & cover different stories in their work, without making the marital problems the focal point of their writings. So, for that reason I think the drama-makers should explore more such novels & base their dramas on them as it shows a very different perspective on life & the real life issues in a very different light too. I enjoy watching Thora Sa Aasman for the main reason that even though everything that they are showing is based on reality, it still seems refreshing because it is different to what we all are used to watching.
Ambar went out of the way to help her friend Rakshi because this is who she is & she doesn’t put much thought into what everyone else says if she makes up her mind regarding something. Ambar met Rakshi & found out all the problems that her friend was facing but just when she realized that Saiqa was in no mood for a legal fight to bring justice to her dead daughter, Ambar suggested that Rakshi, along with her mother & sister should move to a new apartment because their lives were at stake in that area. Even though Muneeza, Talha & Shabana, everyone opposed Ambar, she knew she had to do something for her friend & that is why she asked for Mansoor’s help because she knew that her father will never say no to her.
Rakhsi not only got a new place to live because of Ambar’s help, but because of her referral, Rakhsi scored a job as Mansoor’s secretary. Mansoor has started doing everything that Haroon Kamal tells him to do. Haroon Kamal is trying to turn Mansoor into someone exactly like himself, that is why he is not only teaching him how to be independent but slowly & steadily, Haroon intends to turn Mansoor into a ruthless & practical businessman. Seems like Haroon’s influence has started to affect Mansoor & Masood’s lives, but at the moment it is Masood who can see what is happening whereas Mansoor is unaware of the difficulties he will end up facing by letting go of his brother & nephew’s hand on Haroon Kamal’s suggestion.
Talha has taken his friendship with Aneela a notch higher, that is why he has started to meet her & her mother, without any good reason. It seems that Talha has started taking Aneela’s company as an escape from Ambar’s tantrums & dictatorship & he has started finding solace in Aneela. Even though Talha might not say it, but deep down he has started to see how dominating Ambar is & how spoiled she is to some extent too. Talha loves Ambar but it is so obvious that he is tired of keeping up with her orders. Even though Ambar & Talha always believed in trusting each other completely, the way Talha hid the fact that he was at Aneela’s place was the first step that he took in breaking Ambar’s trust. I like Ambar’s nature for the fact that she is just the way she is, she is not conniving or manipulative or she doesn’t believe in hurting other people whereas all the people around her are exactly like that & to some extent Talha as well because he is not being honest about his & Aneela’s friendship. People find easy to judge someone like Ambar whereas she is far better than those who believe in ruining people’s lives or who strive to achieve something that belongs to someone else!
Haroon Kamal still seems interested in Ambar but I loved the way she didn’t sugarcoat her feelings & let him know what she thought of him. I am sure this won’t stop Haroon Kamal from making advances at her because he believes in getting what he likes. It seems that Rakshi has made quite an impression on Mansoor, due to her hard-work & sincerity towards the job. I like the fact that even though Rakshi knows that by having Ambar by her side, things will never go wrong but she is not exploiting the kindness & generosity of her friend or her father. Rakshi didn’t share her emotional baggage with Mansoor until he asked & that’s when she saw that even he walked an extra mile to help her & make her feel secure.
Things are going pretty smooth in this drama & even though I see a little tweaking in the original story, I am definitely liking what I am watching. I must say that the girl who has played the character of Ambar has done a brilliant job in terms of acting. Even though the rest of the cast has done an amazing job too but I feel that Ambar’s character had to be portrayed a certain way & it feels that the actress has owned this character a 100% & has done justice to it every step of the way. I feel that the way Ambar’s character has been projected so far, you can’t dislike her for who she is because you understand her honesty & her loyalty towards the people she loves, which is commendable. I must also add that I am liking the director’s approach in unfolding the story, it seems that he knows what needs to be shown at what time & he is doing just exactly that. I like that they have so many stories & tracks in this drama because with every change in the scene, the entire story changes which keeps your interest alive while watching the episode. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this episode & I am sure you guys did too, so please don’t forget to share your thoughts about this episode of Thora Sa Aasman.
Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.
Too many divorces in our dramas!! is it worth it??
This video is about divorces being shown in dramas very frequently. Producers should avoid showing divorces because it leaves a bad impact on our society.
Laaj – Episode 8 – Hell hath no fury like Sikander scorned!
So this episode revealed to us in detail what Sikander has been planning. On the other hand, Bari Sahab has plans too for Mannat. While the elders plan and scheme, the younger generation is used as pawns and is at the mercy of their plans. I could relate to Mannat’s fear when she wondered why Bari Sahab wanted to keep mum about Mannat’s pregnancy and what she in mind for her baby. Bari Sahab does not want Sikander to know Mannat is pregnant with his heir and she wants to give him no chance to be able to have any continued relations with them.
Samjhotay kamzor laug kia kartay hain, hum sirf hukkum daitay hain. Bari Sahab has been indulgent with Shahzeb but she is fast losing patience with him now and is beginning to be disgusted with the way he thinks and longs to handle the whole situation. Bari Sahab is ruthless and it is how she has raised her son Jahanzeb as well. Where she is shaken and will stop at nothing to save him from death, she also takes great pride in the fact that he murdered Sajjad to avenge his daughter’s honor. Bari Sahab’s words to Shahzeb ‘mein bhool jawaan gee keh meray do puttar hain’ had Shahzeb reduced to tears and even me shaking my head in disgust. He may mean well but it is clear that Sikander will not listen to any reason or persuasion to let things go calmly.
The judge sentences Jahanzeb to death, something Bari Sahab had not anticipated but which Sikander was confident would happen. He now reveals his plan to his son Dilawar who initially balks at the whole idea but then begins to warm to it. Dilawar feels that his son’s death should be avenged by having his murderer hanged but Sikander wants to approach Bari Sahab with a two pronged proposal. Jahanzeb’s life in exchange for the four villages near the lake to be transferred to his name and Zainab’s hand in marriage to Dilawar. Sikander is hungry for an heir now and thinks what better person to present him with an heir than Bari Sahab’s laadli Zainab who can be mistreated as much as they want which will cause Bari Sahab endless pain and grief.
Bari Sahab agrees to the property transfer without wasting a second but her eyes shoot daggers as she listens to the proposal for Zainab. Zainab however presents herself willingly as the sacrificial lamb. Sikander gives Bari Sahab three days to think over his proposal with ‘yeh phool kis kay leeyay khareedoon – Jahanzeb kay qabar kay leeyay ya Dilawar kay sehray kay leeyay’. Sikander wants to hurt Bari Sahab and have her grovel yes, but he also wants an heir very badly. I can not help wonder whether Bari Sahab will now reveal the fact that Mannat is expecting Sikander’s grandchild. Will she let Zainab marry Dilawar to free Jahanzeb or will she somehow use Mannat’s pregnancy to their advantage? Or does she have a master plan to oust Sikander? Only time – and a few more episodes – will tell, LOL.
So relieved Alisha’s presence was restricted to just one scene in today’s episode – made the episode much more watchable. Last week’s preview had prepared me for today’s happenings so I deliberately avoided watching the preview for next week so I do not know what to expect. Asma Abbas continues to impress as Bari Sahab with her expressions and her dialogue delivery. Although I find Zainab constantly throwing herself at Jahanzeb a bit cringeworthy at times, I can not help but like the chemistry between Zarnish Khan and Kamran Jillani and hope to see more scenes of them together and really hope Zainab is not wedded to Dilawar. On a side note I would love to watch a drama with these two as the lead couple again. Any speculations/predictions about what Bari Sahab’s game will be now? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Pakistani Stars recieved Warning from Nationalist Party to Leave India in 48 Hours!
The nationalist party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is speaking out loud that they want the Pakistani stars to leave India.
According to the Indian Express the film workers association of Raj Thackeray’s party have given the final warning to the Pakistani stars to leave India in next 48-hours. The party members also made this very clear that if the stars will not leave them self they will make them do that forcefully.
“We gave a 48 hours deadline to Pakistani actors and artists to leave India or MNS will push them out,” said Amey Khopkar, MNS Chitrapat Sena.
Due to the increasing tension between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir issue, some of the Indians have started speaking about the artists very rudely. Previously an Indian Journalist wrote a very harsh letter to Fawad Khan. However, some of the Indian disagree with such idea of banning Pakistani stars in India and also wrote a counter letter stating that Fawad is not a politician but a star.
This isn’t the first time Fawad and co have received threats from India’s nationalist parties. In October last year, Shiv Sena activists had threatened Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan.
Lets see what decision our stars take over the prevailing issue.

Is compromising on your image & dignity worth it?
Aiman and Manal Khan; we all know them as happy-go-lucky, peppy, bright and ‘innocent’ ‘teenagers’ who made a name in the industry in such a short span of time that too at such a young age. Both the sisters grabbed the attention of the viewers with their phenomenal acting as supporting actors in a lot of popular dramas. The main reason why people fell in love with Aiman and Manal Khan was because of their simplicity and rawness, which is rarely seen in the celebrities associated with the showbiz. What made people appreciate both these sisters was the fact that they remained down-to-earth and ‘simple’ despite getting so much of recognition in the industry at such a young age.
Recently, a couple of photo-shoots have circulated on the social media in which Aiman and Manal Khan have gone through a complete personality makeover, which is grabbing attention for all the wrong reasons. It looks like Aiman and Manal are trying to send a message to their fans and the people associated with the showbiz, that they are not the same ‘simple’ twins anymore for which people fell in love with them initially and they are ready to explore more options. Starting from their styling to their makeup to their poses to their clothing, everything is wrong and questionable in these photo-shoots and they have forced their fans to think what has gone wrong with these sisters? Unfortunately, these photographs of Aiman and Manal seem to have confused people about the image that they are trying to portray because it looks like they are ready to put the past to rest and are now emerging as ‘glam dolls’ of the industry.
Aiman and Manal should know that they have a fan-base of young impressionable girls and it is their duty to let their teenager fans know that anyone can be a part of the industry while still being simple and decent. It is unfortunate to see Aiman and Manal in such a light where they are ‘confidently’ compromising on their image to form a new one, which most certainly doesn’t seem respectful and decent.

Actors Who Experiment With Their Looks
When it comes to bringing life to the characters, it is pivotal for the actors to give their characters the right treatment to make them look different & also to make the viewers feel that they are watching someone & something new on their television screens. Experimenting with looks is a very important part of an actor’s job because it defines their vision, attention to detail & maturity as a performer. When the actors experiment with their looks, it depicts that for them, their comfort zones don’t matter much, but what matters the most is how their characters are translated on screen which makes them look versatile.
Experimenting is something that helps the viewers in forming a connection with the new characters as it allows them to move on from the past performances of the actors. When the viewers get to see an actor in a new avatar, they find it easy to put the past to rest & look forward to what an actor has to offer in the new project because if the actors doesn’t change their overall look, it feels that the walked from one shooting set to another.
We have a list of those brilliant actors who are always seen experimenting with their looks & succeed in looking different in most of their dramas.
Bushra Ansari:
Bushra Ansari is an all rounder who can portray any character assigned to her on screen effortlessly. Even with so much experience Bushra Ansari is very conscious about her look in dramas. In drama serial Bilquees Kaur she had a look completely different from her look in drama serial Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley because the characters she was playing in these dramas were poles apart. Similarly right now she is part of two dramas, Jhoot and Udaari and in both these dramas her outlook matches the characters that she is playing. Bushra Ansari also shared how much homework she did to make Sheedan of Udaari look completely different so that the viewers could easily see her as Sheedan and not as Bushra Ansari. It is truly impressive that even an actress of her caliber feels that she needs to put in extra effort in order to make her roles look diverse.
Aur Kitna Intezaar?! – Episode 16
Ever been stuck in an infuriating board game where you take one step forward and then two backwards and despite the small movements, seems like you have been pretty much stuck in the same place forever? Same is the feeling I get watching Intezaar. Zoya has come back home and all is forgiven and forgotten apparently. Shariq asks Zoya’s parents for her hand in marriage and you would think they would say yes (remember we know of Saba’s existence, they do not) but throw in Naimat Chacha’s demand and Zoya refuses to marry Shariq – again. Next week’s preview shows that this obstacle is apparently dealt with and the path is clear for Shariq and Zoya – when another twist is thrown in.
I did not understand Zoya’s father’s hesitation over Shariq’s proposal. Zoya’s mother seemed to talk sense for the first time when she said Shariq had taken care of Zoya and been there for her when none of them had. On the face of it all, he does seem like the perfect ‘rishta’. However, he warms to the idea and speaks to his brother. Naimat’s reaction did not surprise me although the lengths this man is going to to keep his grandson in his home is not commendable in the least. Why was nobody able to point out to him that he could no way, by law, keep Sameer away from Zoya? I really wish we were not shown that Zoya is an educated and confident woman at the start for seems like Azmeer took all her intelligence with him to the grave! I understand shock, helplessness etc right after his death. Did not understand the inertia that was the stay at Shariq’s house. But I truly do not understand this mazloom helplessness. If she wants to marry Shariq – how can Naimat keep Sameer away from her? If she does not want to marry anyone at all then – why does she need to? Surely with her parents and Azmeer’s parents around to help with Sameer, she could go back to work and provide a life for herself and her son? Alas – Zoya’s mind does not seem to be headed in that direction at all!
Yeh ultay seedhay TV kay dramay na dekha karo, damaagh kharaab ho raha hai. Naila (the ever scheming Bhabhi – her name often skips me by) is truly one of those cunning bhabhis in our dramas and if it is the dramas that have made her that way then I am with Shahnawaz on this one, ha! Naila is beginning to get a taste of her own medicine. Her expressions are rather comical at times, such as when she eavesdrops on Shariq and Zoya’s conversation. Despite the whole suggestion being selfish and insane, for a fleeting moment I wondered whether Naimat wanted Shahnawaz to marry Zoya only to keep Sameer close or to finally have one point over Naila, LOL! A small part of me did feel great satisfaction to see Naila shocked and squirm. Naila demands that Shahnawaz divorce her if he marries Zoya – I did not see that coming! She is not wrong to want to have children but the tactless way she attacked Shahnawaz left a bad taste in my mouth. He has not agreed to marry Zoya and when a woman is unable to conceive, for a man to throw that in her face is in bad form and I felt that it should have been no different when the tables are turned. It just made Naila look worse at the end of that confrontation.
Saba was pretty much missing in today’s episode. Except for the scene when she is struggling to build a ‘home’ and is met with her mother in law’s disapproving stare at the end. What was she expecting anyway when she pressurized Shariq into this marriage? What were Mamu and Maami also expecting? That the nikkah would serve as a magic wand and all would be well? Oh well, I will not waste my breath on them in this review for Shariq seems to have forgotten about Saba for now while he continues to mope around about Zoya.
Naimat’s wife gives Naimat a much needed piece of her mind. What she said was so true – he has not changed. ‘Zabardasti kay rishtay khushiyan nahin laatay, khushiyon ka galla ghoat daitay hain’ and when she said she thought the grief of losing his own child would make him sensitive to other’s grief, it made me sad for her. She has always been a nice, reasonable woman and she only wants the best for Zoya. Her resentment and sorrow all came pouring out and the way she would bat away Shahnawaz showed how she had really been wanting to let it all out. Naimat’s expressions gave me the impression that her words have made some sense to him – I think. But we will have to wait and see.
The story has moved a bit away from Saba’s track focusing more on Shariq and Zoya. I think I watch this drama only because I started watching it and am curious to see how it ends and especially how Saba’s track is dealt with eventually. I am still struggling with understanding Saba’s mental state where she seems to be someone who acts her age generally except when she is given to moments when her past comes to haunt her and then there are moments when she seems like she possesses the mind of a 5 year old. The same goes for the dialogues – some conversations and dialogues make me pause and ponder but then like in today’s episode if I heard the phrase ‘pahaar jaisi zindagi’ one more time I thought I would go jump off a ‘pahaar’ myself!!
Shariq ki shaadi koi karwaaday please Zoya se. And poor Sameer – not once have I heard him cry, bawl or fidget and Zoya claims he has done her head in. Taubah! Is it just me or is anyone else curious what Shamsu is like? Also, is there anyone else besides myself who watches this show? Any thoughts on tonight’s episode? Would love to hear them!

The Magnum Chocolate Party 2016!
Yesterday a party took place in Karachi “The Magnum Chocolate Party 2016”. The guests were constantly supplied with artistic movements on the ramp and Belgian chocolates. If the purpose of the party was to keep everything unrealistic then it was a big success. Everything was too exaggerated even if it was some sort of innovative art.
Last year in 2015 the Magnum Party was inspired by fashion but this time theme was changed and now art was merged up with fashion. The fashion event had collection from the famous designers, Shamaeel Ansari, Nilofer Shahid, Ali Xeeshan and Faraz Manan which was centered on the theme of surrealism. Everything was embodiment of experimentation and artistry and clothes were not all wearable.
Let us share few clicks from the event, do let us know how you feel about the Magnum Party this year!
Fawad Khan will give a Special Appearence in the Film ”MS Dhoni: The Untold Story”
Where most of the fans are excited to see Fawad Khan in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Fawad is in mood to give double treat to his fans as he will be doing a special cameo role in ”MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.” Fawad will be playing the role of Virat Kohli in the film.
Fox Studios tried to keep Fawad’s appearance under the cover but a source told media that Fawad will also be a special part of the film. Sushant Singh Rajput a talented actor of Bollywood will be doing the role of MS Dhoni. Fawad role was kept as secret to give a surprise to the audience at the right time.
Now as that cast of the film is being revealed the hype of Dhoni’s biopic has increased after this buzz, which was really important for the film!
The interesting thing is that it is not only Neeraj Pandey who has kept Fawad’s role a secret even Karan Johar has kept the Fawad Khan role a mystery till the end in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
The movie is expected to hit the theaters on September 30, 2016.
Fawad Khan – Biography, Family, Wedding, Wife, Son, Daughter, Movie, Dramas
Be Aib- Episode 7 & 8 Two Aibs are better than one…
I find it amusing how these supposedly grown up people- Taimoor and Tooba who were engaged to be married are controlled by their parents like little, misbehaving children. Sadaf thinks she’s won the golden ticket by convincing the uber rich Fawad to agree to a huge haq Meher and not once did she wonder why this guy has come all by himself to get married and wants to expedite the wedding. Tooba sounds like a little lamb every time she belches “Maamaaa” and Fawad has developed a strong liking for her even though she’s not uttered a single word yet. Hasn’t he even considered the possibility that she may not be interested? Or that she is mute? Or is suffering from some psychological trauma that prevents her from social interactions? He came to the conclusion that she has no personality and he can’t tolerate Sadaf so why would he pursue someone who lacks a personality? What sort of a marriage is he hoping for?
Taimoor needs to tone down the melodrama- this dude has an accident and is still alive. Surely there’s got to be a silver lining visible somewhere. Instead, he’s constantly moping and sulking hoping Nurse Tooba will help his recovery. Instead, he finds himself under the care of Nurse Inaaya who is more than keen to prove her abilities as a caretaker/ wife/ therapist/ friend… Facing rejection from Sadaf, his parents decide that the ultimate solution for his misery and depression is a rushed wedding with Inaaya! Because marriage is the cure for everything.
I might be mistaken but there was a scene where Inaya’s face was scar- free. Was that a mistake or did she finally figure out how to use a concealer? I don’t get who’s responsible for styling these characters. Inaaya hasn’t worn a single outfit that passes as ironed! For someone who’s self- conscious, couldn’t the make- up artist figure out how to conceal her birthmark? Or couldn’t she wear a scarf? And what happened to all the clothes Shahana Phuppo bought for her new bahu? Coz she simply woke up looking like she does everyday.
Then we have Sadaf and her outrageous saris. And Tooba and her unkempt hair and uneven liner… You’d think someone who fancies herself to be a perfectionist would run a comb through her daughter’s hair!
I’m aching to know Ahmed’s success story- he went on a student visa, found work almost immediately and a fancy shmancy apartment and now he’s setting up his business? Did he find a magic lamp while he was down in the dumps crying over Tooba?
Aisha and Sadaf are more alike than they realize. Aisha is a poor man’s Sadaf. Both of these women are obsessed with money and that seems to be the only criteria they consider when choosing a partner for their children.
It’s one thing that the story is predictable but it’s another for the dialogues to sound repetitive. Many times even when a drama might not have something extraordinary to offer, the dialogues catch my attention. Here, the dialogues are a complete letdown- not that anything else isn’t! The choppy editing, weak script, mediocre acting, and substandard direction all contribute to a very disappointing drama. Despite the pace, there’s just not enough substance to keep viewers attention.
What do you think?

Dumpukht- Atish-e-Ishq Episode 11- Mercury Rising
Dumpukht continues to remain engaging and keeps my interest intact. With the wedding looming over their heads, Kulchu is crippled with fear- Tahira’s lack of acceptance has brought out the worst in her character and the latest victim of her wrath happens to be Rabia. A simple offer to help with the wedding preps caused an ugly confrontation and a very unnecessary showdown. It seems like no one has any power over Tahira- she is unaffected with the knowledge that this wedding is being blessed by her Murshid Saeein. She’s certain that this is all part of a greater conspiracy to bring her downfall although the lives she’s hell bent on ruining are the ones who she should be most concerned about! Asma Abbas has successfully made me hate her with all my heart. She played a ruthless character in Janam Jali and at that time I thought she was the worst character on screen but she seems to have outdone herself by playing Tahira with such passion.
Bilal has been elevated from the status of bhanghi to a treasurer. Since Wali is Habibullah’s wingman, this is a cleverly conceived ploy to trap him and ultimately remove him from the equation. Wali has secured Habibullah’s trust and is now manipulating him by pushing him towards Kulsoom. Sensing some hesitation on his part, Wali suggests that Habibullah needs an heir since he doesn’t have a successor… Iss rishtey se apko gaddi mili hai lekin iss gaddi ka waris nahin Mila…
Jab woh dekhengay ke unka apna peer banjar hai toh woh haryali mangey kyun ayengay… Although Habibullah seems apprehensive initially, the reminder that he’s childless makes him determined to seek Kulsoom- Mohabbat Ki Jung mein Sab Kuch jayiz hosakta hai… Lekin halaal aur haraam Ki tameez nahyin mitsakti…
I was surprised to see Bibi’s reaction to Habibullah’s khwaish– it’s the first time I saw her appear vulnerable. Despite the power and authority, Bibi is a woman who longs to become a mother. Are her taunts merely an attempt at covering her emptiness?
It seems Habibullah is still in touch with his ex Beena? And this is something Bibi is completely aware of. I’m curious to find out about Beena- she’s married and has a child now but somehow she manages to stay in touch with Habibullah ? Or does he have these conversations in his head? If he’s still in love with Beena while being married to Bibi, why is he pursuing Kulsoom when he knows she’s not the woman he loves but rather his muse. Habibullah had been fascinated by Kulsoom, and is now obsessing over her but does he really think he’ll be happy with her?
Habibullah has set the wedding date but the way things are shaping up, it doesn’t seem like Billu and Kulchu are destined to meet. How will Habibullah convince Bibi to accept Kulsoom as her sautan? How will Bibi adapt to these changes? And how will Kulchu agree to this Union? Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Mein Sitara Episode 25 – Fighters Don’t Give Up!
This episode was full of surprises! Even after so many weeks Mein Sitara still gives its viewers something to look forward to. After watching the last episode and the preview of this one I was quite certain that Sitara’s journey would end with nothing but regrets but this episode (especially the last scene) showed that Sitara is still strong and very willing to compete with Naseem Dil Ruba. Also, Sitara’s decision to live independently went to show that she is ready to cut off her ties with her parents completely, a decision which will definitely benefit her in the long run. Saba Qamar once again stole the show with her impressive performance. It is very interesting how some of the characters who we thought were never going to appear again are actually the ones which are playing a very important role in taking the story forward now. Naseem Dil Ruba and Pappu are two such characters which have been there right from the start but no one could have guessed that they would play such a major role in the story.
Pappu’s character shows that not everyone in the industry is fake and there are times when people like Sitara make some good friends too. Adnan Shah Tipu is brilliant as Pappu, he made his presence felt even when Pappu’s role didn’t have a bigger role to play in the picture and now that he is the only friend Sitara has, he is going to be her biggest support. Pappu is wise and has a realistic approach towards everything and for once Sitara is willing to listen to him. The opening conversation between these two characters showed what kind of a person Pappu was and that Sitara was going to listen to him. Sitara wanted to tell Khawaja about the baby but didn’t do so when Pappu told her it might not be such a good idea.
Sitara’s father’s character has to be one of the most impactful negative characters of recent times. The dialogue “is duniya mein akela tu hi beghairat nahi hai” was on point! Sitara’s mother has a soft spot for her daughter but she too is just as selfish and greedy as her father. The scene in which Sitara tells her father that she had huge expectations from her daughter Falak was a very powerful scene.
At the beginning of this episode Sitara was completely hopeless but by the time it ended, she had a very different approach towards everything! Naseem Dil Ruba has not learned anything in all these years. She is still the person she was so many years back and I must say that Meera was the perfect choice for playing this role. Sitara could not compete with Naseem in films but now with the new openings in theatre she might have a chance. I had given up all hope that Sitara will one day rise again but now it seems highly likely that it might just happen! This was the most pleasant development in tonight’s episode. Mein Sitara has always been very unpredictable and just like all of Faiza Iftikhar’s scripts even now it is impossible to guess what is going to happen next!
Time passed quickly in this episode and every scene of this latest installment added something new to the story. Sitara’s character grew with every interaction she had with different characters in this episode. Sitara was always a fighter and she still is. She is the kind of heroine which most of us want to see in our dramas – she is flawed but at the same time inspiring! Seema Taher Khan has done complete justice to the beautiful script penned down by Faiza Iftikhar. Mein Sitara is not the story of one girl but it shows different transitions our film industry went through and different ways in which these changes effected those people who were associated with the film industry. The amazing thing about this drama is that Sitara’s journey is just as enticing today as it was so many weeks back when the first few episodes of this drama had gone on air.
After tonight’s episode I am eagerly looking forward to what is going to happen next. How many of you watched this latest installment? Do share your thoughts about it.
Sang e Marmar Episode 04 – Misunderstandings Lead to Judgments!
Ohkay so, it was yet another amazing episode of Sang e Marmar that just ended. Even though the director is taking his sweet time in establishing the story, I like how he is giving us an insight into all the characters & their mentality. I like how with each passing episode, the viewers are getting a chance to form an understanding about all the characters. I must say, I really appreciate how the writer has shown that all the characters are just being human by having so many shades, where they are good for some people, they are equally evil for others too. The way the scenarios & the reactions of all the characters have been balanced, it has made this drama a very decent watch.
Finally, Durkhani met the man of her dreams. I really like her but I feel for her because she is naive. I loved the fact that despite wanting to do everything that her man was telling her to, she kept the promise that she made to her best friend that she won’t cross the line & won’t allow Gohar to even hold her hand. I hated Gohar in that entire scene because he was posing to be someone he is not. Gohar surely is playing his game with a lot of caution because his intention isn’t pure & he doesn’t want to commit any such mistake that will allow Durkhani to have an access to him or his family when he later plans on violating her. Gohar has started this relationship based on lies but the biggest lie that he told her was about his fake identity. It sheds a light on the fact that in such areas men like Gohar know that they can be a predator but their victim will never be able to raise a voice against them in a fear of staining their own reputation. Gohar exactly knows that no matter what he will do to Durkhani, she will never be able to restore her dignity & she will never be able to fight him because she will be forced by the people around her to remain silent as she will be the only one receiving a backlash for having relations with a man.
Torah’s spy succeeded in following Durkhani but the way he believed on what he saw & reported to Torah highlighted the fact that where people might not believe in attaining a proper information, the one thing they firmly believe in is judging others quickly. That was the reason why without even knowing anything, Torah’s spy reported that it was Saif ur Rehman’s sister who was involved with Gohar. Even though Torah plans on taking revenge from Gohar, I am already dreading the brunt that Saif ur Rehman & Shireen will have to face because of a mere misunderstanding. I have a feeling that Shireen & even Durkhani won’t get a chance to explain themselves & Saif ur Rehman will reach to a conclusion without even thinking things through.
It was for the first time that we got an insight into Saif ur Rehman’s personality. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised to see that in such a conservative environment, there was a brother like Saif ur Rehman who told his wife that no matter what happens, he will always trust his sister blindly. For a moment, I did feel for Saif’s wife too because where Saif was being so understanding towards his sister, he was being way too stern with his wife but then as the episode unfolded, I realized that she is someone who finds solace in negativity, that is why she is always on a hunt for some controversy against Shireen, only to prove to Saif that his sister isn’t that much of a saint as he thinks she is, so if Saif has grown indifferent towards her, it is because of her own nature. However, I really enjoyed watching the entire scene where Shireen & Durkhani find out that Saif’s wife is expecting a child. The warm smile on Saif’s face & the way Shireen congratulated him was actually very sweet. I thought that may be Saif’s wife will forget about everything & focus on the well-being of her child but she chose to focus on the war that she has waged against her husband & his sister, which actually made me feel that Saif is justified for not giving her the respect she expects.
The entire scene between Saif & Torah only went to show how these men run high on emotions & how they are always looking for an opportunity to prove to one another that they hold more power that their competitor. Even though the bone of contention between Gohar & Saif was just a rooster, it was shown to elaborate the animosity these two clans have towards each other. Even though I liked how Saif took a stand for his sister, I am sure the things that Saif’s wife heard from Gul Begum will be enough to convince him that his wife wasn’t lying. Shireen ended up giving away the secret that it was Shireen who let Aurang sit in their car as he was running late for the funeral, which definitely means that Shireen’s sister in law will use it against her to prove her point that she wasn’t wrong in suspecting that Shireen liked Gulistan’s son. The way Saif’s wife got tipped on the fact that Gohar was the one who got those things that Shireen was wearing went to show how a small move in such a close knit community can raise so many questions & judgments. This is what they highlighted in this episode that everyone is a bit too quick to judge & those who depend on such gossips are the one’s who make the most of such situations!
The scene between Aurang & his mother was heart-warming. ‘Darr Jee ne jo daagh lagaye the tumne saaf kar diye’, went to show that every single time Gulistan hurts Aurang, it is his mother who does the damage control & tries to make him feel better because she shares a special bond with her youngest son. The way Aurang had this sadness in his eyes because of the thought of leaving his mother behind was quite touching. Gulistan might not say but the way he told Gohar to see Aurang off went to show that he cared for Aurang as well & Gohar’s presence was basically a representation of his feelings for his son. I loved Noman Ejaz’s acting in that scene because it was so evident that where he was sad about the fact that Aurang was leaving, he was trying to restrict his emotions from making an appearance on his face. Beautiful work!
This episode was beautiful & I am actually looking forward to the next episode because the precap was quite intense. I am sure things are going to get quite ugly & Durkhani will be forced to see the true face of Gohar. I just wish that nothing happens to her because she has a life ahead of her. I must say, the thing I love the most about the ladies in this drama is how they take a stand for themselves. Shireen didn’t mind saying the truth to the aunt’s face who came for her proposal that all she needed was a maid & not a daughter in law. I like how they have shown all the women to be so courageous in their own accord & it is quite liberating to see such women who despite living in such harsh surroundings have their own voice. I can’t thank the director enough for making us fall in love with all these characters & for introducing them to us in such a beautiful way. I must also add that the writer & the director have done a commendable job in maintaining a balance because where the last episode ended at quite a depressing note, this one had an entire change of scenario & focused on a totally different angle of the story. It just makes the drama-watching experience even more amazing! Even though the drama is in its initial stages, I have a feeling that these characters will become memorable for all of us. Please share your thoughts about this beautiful episode of Sang e Marmar.
Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.
Indian Journalist Letter to Fawad Khan receives Opposing Comments from Khan’s Fans!
This was so much expected that the letter written by the Indian Journalist Soumyadipta Banerjee’s to the Pakistan’s superstar will not be accepted by his fans and the individuals having brain to think neutral. People are badly disappointed to read such kind of letter and the language journalist has used for Khan.
One of the leading magazines’ of Pakistan FMH (For Her Magazine) has given a superb answer to the letter written by Soumyadipta Banerjee.
The magazine called Soumyadipta Banerjee a “Senseless Bollywood Journalist” and wrote that Fawad Khan deserved all the appreciation he received in India and he gave their industry what no other B-town could ever offer.
“If India has graciously showered love over Fawad Khan; then that is due to the fact that he has earned it along with any other Pakistani star. If you have given him the awards, than he has given you enough of his looks and acting, that no other of your actor would have been able to offer with such perfection,” the writer says.
The FHM has warned the Indian journalist and think before insulting any Pakistani celebrity.
“Please note it down for your next article that if you, in the future, dare to stand against the Pakistani celebrities or anyone; you will get an even worst response”, the note ended.
On the other hand Twitter is overflowing with the complaining and warning filled comments for the Indian Journalist.
Though the journalist did not receive enough backlash but as he wanted to end the entire debate so he posted on twitter:
Teri Chah Mein – Episode 10 – The Happy (Not) Trio!
Sympathy. Anger. Disgust. Shock. Joy. Outrage. Indignant. Empathy. Which one, or combination of more than one or any am I to feel for these characters? Bewilderment at Mehwish’s (lack of) maturity? Wonder at Faisal’s new sprung ‘over’ maturity (if that even is a term). The problem is I know I should be feeling something and I want to feel something but I am not sure what I should be feeling. Ha!
This episode focused more on the claustrophobic trio that is Mehwish, Faisal and Zara except that the trio ventured out into the world and faced zamana’s backlash. Faisal’s colleague’s wife’s reaction when she met Mehwish was realistic enough but I found her eyeing Mehwish when her son’s cake was being cut a bit over the top. Faisal seems to take it all in his stride but people’s reactions are beginning to get under Mehwish’s skin and tongues wagging at the college do not help ebb out Zara’s anger either.
I am a bit surprised at Faisal’s reaction to Mehwish not being able to conceive. Not to say they should have taken me along as mediator when they spoke about marriage but did he really think through what marrying an older woman entailed? And Mehwish’s reaction when they talked about children gave me the impression that that was something she had never thought of, so maybe it would have made sense if they had talked things through. However, given how the whole nikkah scenario played out anyway, I guess they would not have had their senses about them to have spoken about this. Faisal seems withdrawn and quiet and Mehwish senses something is up but Faisal will not confide in her. When he says to himself that he should accept that not everyone gets everything they want in life, it made me think that maybe this is where he might move on.
Okay, it is understandable that Faisal wants to make Zara feel a part of the ‘family’ but he is going out of his way and that is not sitting well with Mehwish. I have to keep reminding myself that Zara is seething beneath all the outwardly sweetness for she seems genuinely concerned when Mehwish is unwell. What is going on with Mehwish, I wonder? A far fetched thought – is Zara mixing something in her mother’s food to make her react like that? Would she go that far? Or is Mehwish having anxiety attacks? Or is the beginning of some bigger illness?
Now the way Faisal is behaving with Zara, Zara’s ‘game’ and Mehwish’s suspicions and then her way of dealing with the situation – that is what bewilders me. I can not begin to understand how Mehwish was able to say to Faisal that she wants him out till Zara gets married. She basically just made it clear that she can not take the two being close together and I expected anger, outrage, shock at the suggestion but not this – how will I stay alone in the apartment, and Faisal bhai meri kissi say bhi shaadi karwa dain. I have said it before as well – Mehwish or Maria Wasti – something is off. Her expressions, her words when she tells Faisal that she will help him ‘settle’ into his new apartment were as if she were a parent comforting a child going off to university in another country. No, don’t shoot me – I have not joined the zamanay walay and being judgemental about the age difference and all – it is just the manner in which she talks to him.
I hope I am not meant to regret my words but I am pleasantly surprised at how ‘toned’ down Saboor Ali’s acting is. Yes, the screams in the initial episodes were hard to sit through but I can not complain over her acting in this episode for she is generally overly dramatic. I am not sure where the story leads from here with Faisal having been thrown out and his ‘love’ being tested. As far as relationships go, I do not think this was the best step forward for Mehwish but let’s see how that all fares out. Problems arising from society accepting this relationship was something anticipated but the jealousy and uncertainty Mehwish feels and Faisal’s state of confusion add more to the mix. This drama pace was something that had me hooked – I hope it continues to keep our interest alive.
What did you all make of Mehwish’s new strategy and today’s episode? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Jhoot – An Overview
I had written off ‘Jhoot’. I like romantic comedies that are regularly churned out by our various TV channels. To me ‘Jhoot’ was not too attractive as it did not have the usual ‘ hot ‘ couple in the lead. And that is true. It has actors… talented actors who are making each and every character come alive. Slowly, as I have watched episode after episode, I am impressed with the very important message in the very strong script. Deviating from the usual’ maa kay peron talay jannat hay’ and ‘ maa ka hokum maanina ain ibaadat hay’ it talks about how mothers can manipulate the love and obedience of their children to fulfill their selfish motives. It talks about how the involvement and unnecessary interference of families can create havoc in the lives of two newlywed couple. Two people who love each other and left to their own devices would gel and bond easily have to face tension and problems just because of the attitude of their families.
Bushra Ansari as usual gives a stellar performance as the controlling mother. She is a true control freak who wants to decide everything-from the clothes of her daughter to the life of her son. She thinks nothing of using lies as a means to getting her goals. Hers is a very interesting and true character. You see so many women who think they can do no wrong and they know all. She is manipulative and thinks that she alone knows what is best for her children. What the children want is not her concern. Highlighting a character like her is very important as we need to identify women like her who are letting their daughters grow old in ‘ khoob say khoob tar ki talaash’
Mansha Pasha is as usual very impressive. She has nailed the character of ‘Zara’ an innocent meek girl who is very much impressed with her mother and obeys her blindly. Though she does everything that an ideal bahu would do but the mess created by her mother causes her heartache at every juncture. Mansha known for her fantastic performance of the tez taraar ‘ Aliya’ in MSKSH does a completely opposite role of a girl whose simplicity is almost border line idiocy. She is very convincing in this role too. She also looks beautiful in this serial.
Imran Ashraf is an actor who is giving some very impressive performances. He has a lot of talent and will go a long way. He truly depicts the pressures of young men who are crushed between their wives and the love of their wives.
Kamran Jeelani and Mira Sethi again have done very well and look good together. Both give very convincing performances. Again Mira looks pretty and the make up artist of this serial should be given a pat on the back.
I must congratulate the Director and Script writer for daring to pick up this different story which is based on the simple fact that to hide one lie one has to lie a hundred times. The way our families take the easy way out by resorting to lies is what is highlighted here and has been wonderfully portrayed by the trials and tribulations faced by different characters in this drama. It is important to highlight these problems of our society so … Well done!
