Social media has its own advantages and disadvantages. Talking about disadvantages, social media trolling is the most irritating thing one can face; it can be bad enough to convince someone to suicide. In Pakistan, social media bullying is famous and we have witnessed many suicide cases due to being bashed and criticized. Similar is the case with celebs, and one actress has recently given a shut up call to all social media trollers.
We are talking about Neelam Munir. She is not new to such hateful comments, and we have seen her many times getting bashed. Not long ago, we have seen her dance video for which she was badly criticized but she became the trendsetter for many actresses to try her exclusive dance style.
Recently, she got some hateful comments to which she replied that everyone knows their limits so does she.
“I’m sorry to say but never have I ever put up video or picture while taking a shower. As far as limits are concerned, every girl knows her limits so you do not need to worry about that.”
Neelam Munir is one of the most beautiful divas of Pakistani industry. She is a Pakistani actress and model famous for her various roles in drama serials. She also made her film debut in 2017 with a comedy thriller, Chupan Chupai, opposite Ahsan Khan.
People just need a hint and they want to have all the details about celebs’ personal lives. Social media is always on a hunt to find out even the tiniest details about everyone, including celebs, politicians, and everyone who is famous.
Today, we have something to share, too. A big name in the world of politics, who got married not a long ago, posted a picture with her cute son. Yes, we are talking about Sharmila Farooqui. She shared her pictures with her cute 3-month old son, Hussain. Sharmila looks the epitome of elegance in her jeans paired with a white casual shirt and a sleek bun.
Sharmila Farooqui is a famous name in the world of politics. She is a politician from Karachi, Sindh who served as an advisor to the Cheif Minister of Sindh from 2008 to 2011. She got married to Hasham Riaz Sheikh, the owner of Capital TV, back in 2015; her wedding was the talk of the town then. Having most of the city’s police deployed for her wedding’s security, she got bashed multiple times on social media. Besides, she looked gorgeous in red at her wedding. Sharmila gave birth to her munchkin in 2018 May and named her Hussain.
Fizza Ali has been a part of our showbiz industry for quite some time now. She started off her acting careers with PTV when she was a very young and innocent face but she has worked so hard to groom herself both personally and professionally.
Fizza recently came on a morning show Salam Zindagi with her sister as the show was about the relationship and bonding between sisters. During the segment “Mizaaj Aashnai” Faisal asked the sisters who is the one “jisko khany k doran chup karana parta hai”? Sara, Fizza’s older sister held out the board saying Fizza on it.
Then came the revelation about the fact that Fizza eats a lot and as it takes so much time that she can’t keep quiet for that long. Fizza said that there are times when people have to take the plate away from her because she has no limits when it comes to eating. She then said that now she is trying to limit herself like two parathas with only two eggs in breakfast and two tortillas only, if she is having rice in her lunch. She further added that she eats only three tortillas in her dinner.
Javeria Saud was also invited to the show along with her sister, was bewildered to hear about Fizza’s eating habits and said “yeh lambi hai iski sara khana haddyun m jata ho ga”.
Celebrities now more than ever are thought to be a public property. Before the concept of social media there was a comparatively lesser indulgence of people in other people’s life and especially in celebrities’ life. Now people feel entitled and consider themselves free to comment about others and they don’t even hold themselves responsible for whatever mean things they say on social media.
Recently Froze Khan an up and about talent of our industry who is most liked for his acting in a recent drama serial “Khaani”, posted a picture of him on his Instagram, a morning selfie kind of a thing with the caption “How I look begging my maa for late breakfast. Now can I get my nashta please”.
People just went crazy over it for no apparent reason. Some, being the moral police that they are, said that he should ask his wife for nashta because he is married now. I mean What is up with that concept. Siiggghhhhh
Others started comparing themselves with Froze Khan in the most hilarious way possible.
But some people were sensible and tried to tell trollers to let it go.
Some were downright out of proportion to that post. Koe apni hi dunya bnae v thi unhun ny.
Loving a celebrity, acknowledging him, praising him and liking him doesn’t give anyone the right to say whatever they want and whenever they want it.
Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2018 are all those dramas which viewers had huge expectations from but they did not deliver. Every single year, drama makers try their best to give Pakistani drama buffs some amazing dramas. At times they do succeed but sometimes they also fail and miserably at that. This usually happens when the drama makers are unable to convey the vision that they have. A drama fails to click with the audience when the story falls flat, the characters have no personality, the direction isn’t great and the general plot isn’t strong enough. At times simple dramas when executed properly make an impact as well but then there are those dramas also that start off on a strong note but end up testing the patience of the viewers. Also, some of these dramas had scripts which were extremely callous and insensitive in more ways than one.
This article is dedicated to those dramas that could have done well but failed miserably, hence proudly taking a spot in the list of Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2018.
Noor-ul-Ain
Writer: Edison Idrees Masih
Director: Sarmad Sultan Khoosat
Producer: iDream Entertainment
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Imran Abbas, Sajjal Ali, Iffat Omar, Irfan Khoosat, Marina Khan and others.
Noor ul Ain or rather Bore ul Ain was everything that a drama should not be. Despite having a stellar star cast and an ace director sailing the ship, it turned out to be a wreck that was unsalvageable. Noor ul Ain’s story was a complete rip off of Bollywood Block Buster ‘Saathiya’. Despite having months to convey the story properly in comparison to the measly 2 and a half hours’ duration of a movie, the creative team failed to make any of the situation convincing because even after the first half of the drama was over, people were still wondering when and why and most importantly how did a practical, dull and boring girl like Noor fall for a guy like Khizar who she just met – so much so that she forsake every other relation in her life that she once cherished. Where Noor and Khizar’s supposed love-story should have been the highlight of the drama, it turned out to be one of the most boring aspects that just didn’t do anything for Imran and Sajjal’s fans. The writer tried really hard to make this story Pakistani drama-esque by turning the character of Ghazala, played by Iffar Omar, the ultimate villain for everything that Noor did but that still was not an excuse enough to hold Bore ul Ain scot-free because by the end of the day, she was not a toddler (even though she acted like one) who could not own her decisions.
Noor ul Ain explained to the viewers very very clearly that even a stellar star cast and a well-reputed director can not save the ship if the story is not convincing enough. It was unfortunate that every single cast member agreed to do this project because they wanted to work with each other in stead of putting the story above everything else. Noor ul Ain could have been an amazing drama but the predictable and seen-before story along with bland direction, characterization and acting made it one of the worst dramas of 2018.
Ishq Tamasha
Writer: Misbah Nosheen
Director: Danish Nawaz
Producer: Momina Duraid Productions
Channel: HUM TV
Cast: Junaid Khan, Aiman Khan, Faizan Khwaja, Kinza Hashmi, Alizeh Shah, Furqan Qureshi, Saba Faisal and others.
As the name suggests, it won’t be wrong to say that this drama has become a Tamasha, a circus in itself that is not enjoyable anymore. When Ishq Tamasha began, it had all the flavors to draw the attention, that is exactly why it gained all the well-deserved popularity but now it is too obvious that the popularity has gone to the heads of the drama-makers, hence the dragging and unnecessary twists and turns that do not make any sense anymore.
Even though the character of Rushna, played brilliantly by Kinza Hashmi, was quirky and non-serious but that is what the selling point of this drama was. The cute sisterly bickering and hopelessly romantic teenagers waiting to find their prince charming was the theme of the drama and even though nothing new, there was still some spark in this drama that kept the interest of the viewers intact but that is not the case anymore. Ishq Tamasha showed that a girl can cosily live in a house of her kidnapper and not only that, she can keep a track of his milk and tea timings too. This drama is progressing on the basis of zero communication and it is mind-numbing that everyone in this drama sympathizes with Mirha, played by Aiman Khan, yet no one takes a stand for her and calls spade a spade when she is being mistreated. The ending of this drama was one of the worst endings this year. While Mehrab got away with everything because he was a man and got his happy ending, Rushna was punished in the worst possible way. Therefore with great sense of pride, we give it a well–deserved place in the Worst Pakistani Dramas of 2018.
Khasara
Writer: Maha Malik
Director: Shahid Shafat
Producer: Six Sigma Plus
Channel: ARY Digital
Cast: Sarwat Gillani, Junaid Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Sonia Mishal, Hassam Khan & others.
This drama had a star cast, it had one of the most well-reputed production houses in the country backing it up and the OST was sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The director too is known for his creativity and attention to detail but unfortunately Khasara was one of those dramas this year which had the worst scripts. This was another one of those dramas which proved that no amount of star cast can save the day if the script doesn’t have much to offer. The concept this play revolved around was not all that bad but the way the story was taken forward was not the least bit impressive. Also, Sonia Mishal was a complete misfit as Sila.
Khasara’s story was not new but Linta’s character and her relationship with her husband was somewhat new. The fact that the characters in this play were flawed in a way which was not appealing made this drama one of the worst ones this year. The characters lacked depth and their story did not have too much to offer. Accepting Sonia Mishal as the most beautiful and attractive woman alive also was really difficult. In the end, just like many other dramas this year, the woman was not forgiven for her mistakes and her punishment couldn’t have been worse. Khasara had great production values but no substance.
Mere Bewafa
Writer: Zanjabeel Asim Shah
Director: Sakina Samo
Producer: Sadia Jabbar
Channel: Aplus
Cast: Agha Ali, Sarah Khan, Shagufta Ijaz, Zhalay Sarhadi, Osama Tahir, Hassan Noman, Madiha Rizvi & others.
Mere Bewafa was promoted as one of the most watched dramas this year while it was on air and it did get the ratings too but this drama was flawed to the core. This was one of those dramas in which the writer literally cheated the viewers into thinking that the leading lady Azra will eventually break free from an extremely abusive relationship with her husband but in the end she went back to him like nothing bad ever happened between them! Right from the first episode Shahmir, Azra’s husband, was shown cheating on her with her best friend. All through this drama Shahmir treated Azra in the worst way possible, married her best friend and was also responsible for her miscarriage yet when in the last episode he said “sorry”, Azra welcomed him back with open arms! Muskan’s character and track was the only good thing about the drama but she was conveniently sidelined in the second half of the play.
Mere Bewafa was one of the worst dramas which promoted the worst of clichés. It showed that a woman must forgive an abusive husband who continuously cheats on her whenever he feels it is the right time to ask for an apology! Even though Azra had a better choice, a neighbor who truly loved and supported her but like a good desi heroine for whom a divorce and a second marriage is a complete no-no, she went back to Shahmir. The viewers watched Azra suffer day and night endlessly for 23 weeks and then in the last episode, she went back to Shahmir! Mere Bewafa was not just pointless but also demeaning to all the women. The dialogues were just plain cringe-worthy at times. The writer glorified a man who deserved to be punished which was height of irresponsible writing.
Do share your thoughts about the dramas in this list. Which drama do you think was the worst one this year?
Yes, Iqra Aziz’s real age indeed is a mystery for many people. Iqra Aziz’s real age became a mystery when she posted her picture after she got the HUM Style Award. The comments under this picture about Iqra Aziz’s real age stirred an unnecessary controversy which took the limelight away from her actual achievement. People started questioning what Iqra Aziz’s real age was and there were many people who said that Iqra Aziz’s real age was a mystery since she always lied about her age. People have been quite inquisitive about Iqra’s real age since then, even more than her career or anything else she has done so far.
While talking to Momin Munshi on his show One Take, the first thing Iqra did was to clear this confusion once and for all. She made it quite clear that her real age was 20 years. She said that she was going to turn 21 this year. Iqra Aziz also cleared the confusion about her birthday, she said that her birthday on Wikipedia was wrong and that her birthday was 24th November, 1997. She said that on Wikipedia her birth year is 1993- 1994 which is absolutely wrong.
Iqra Aziz also said that she was not going to show anyone who doubted her, her NIC or her passport because such people are not going to get convinced any way! Iqra said that people who are going to doubt her, will say that she paid someone to change the year on her NIC and passport in order to fool them, therefore she thought there was no point proving things to such people. She also said that the actors have a life, they don’t have enough time to worry about these things since they don’t matter.
Hopefully, this will put Iqra Aziz’s real age controversy to rest.
Best Pakistani dramas of 2018 that should not be missed are all those dramas which had the best script and were executed equally well on screen. This year we saw quite a few ground-breaking dramas on Pakistani television channels. These dramas were widely appreciated, others got critical acclaim but failed to win over the masses perhaps because they were distressing and did not sugarcoat reality. This year also marked the comeback of family dramas which was truly refreshing.
We truly appreciate all the hard work the teams of these best Pakistani dramas put in order to make them a success and a special thanks to all those producers who dared to be different and explored different genres, giving the viewers something unique to tune to.
Here is the list of the best Pakistani dramas of 2018:
Aangan
Writer: Faiza Iftikhar Director: Qasim Ali Mureed Producer: Six Sigma Production Channel: ARY Digital Cast: Qavi Khan, Samina Ahmed, Noor ul Hassan, Irsa Ghazal, Iffat Omar, Hassan Ahmed, Paras Masroor, Uzma Hassan, Mansha Pasha and others.
Aangan can easily be termed as the best Pakistani drama of the year. It is one such drama that turned out to be everyone’s cup of tea because of the story and content it had to offer. Faiza Iftikhar penned down the story of every single Pakistani household that is why it turned out to be the favourite drama of all those viewers who tuned to it. Aangan can be summed up as a story of a huge Punjabi family sticking together through tough times & at times falling apart only to get back stronger than ever before. Aangan had everything to offer; from beautifully relatable characters to comedy, to social messages that were conveyed brilliantly and some emotional moments – it was like living a journey with all those beautiful people and that is why Aangan deserves to be labelled as one of the best dramas of 2018.
Aangan turned out to be a huge hit and probably one such drama that struck a chord with the masses because it showcased the reality in such a way that resonated with everyone. Brilliant performances by all the actors and the way they carried out their characters made everyone not only fall in love with them all but also form such a connection that the viewers laughed when they laughed and cried when they did. Abba Jee, Zaitoon Bano, Sajjad, Hajra, Laila, Rubina, Zahid and Shaina are some of the most memorable characters of Aangan.
Dar Si Jati Hei Sila
Writer: Bee Gul Director: Kashif Nisar Producer: Momina Duraid (MD Productions) Channel: HUM Cast:Noman Ijaz, Yumna Zaidi, Saman Ansari, Sakina Samo, Saleem Sheikh, Aamna Malick, Usama Tahir, Kiran Haq and others.
Dar Si Jati Hei Sila was powerful, hard-hitting, relevant and definitely the kind of drama which educates and engages at the same time. It focused on many social issues from the complications arising from arranged marriages to the limitations and drawbacks of a joint family system. This drama artfully and unapologetically highlighted many important issues which are most often brushed under the carpet or are not dealt with too seriously. The best part of this drama was that it had so many important messages for the victims as well as for the abusers! The writer Bee Gul’s layered and meaningful script coupled with Kashif Nisar’s immaculate direction and some of the most impressive performances by all the actors involved made this drama one of those very few plays this year which had a lasting impression.
Noman Ijaz outshined in a negative role like never before, Yumna Zaidi’s performance throughout was extremely impressive, Saman Ansari translated a challenging character superbly on screen. Kiran Haq, Sakina Samo, Aamna Malick, Sheikh Mubashar and Usama Tahir were absolutely brilliant in this show. Dar Si Jati Hei Sila was Thought provoking, gripping, intense and disturbing – definitely one of the most impressive dramas this year!
Khudgarz
Writer: Rida Bilal Director: Yasir Nawaz Producer: Six Sigma Plus & Next Level Entertainment Channel: ARY Digital Cast: Amina Sheikh, Syed Jibran, Sami Khan, Mansha Pasha, Salman Saeed, Ghulam Mohhiuddin, Shaheen Khan, Yasir Nawaz and others.
Khudgarz is one such drama that gives you a multi-dimensional insight into human emotions. Khudgarz happens to be a story of revenge and redemption, from being lost and bitter to finding a purpose and being on a journey of self-discovery, from having extreme hatred to experiencing what it is like to selflessly love people. Khudgarz had so much to offer and despite being a little different than what the viewers are usually used to watching, this drama rightfully garnered recognition because of the way it was executed. Rida Bilal wrote the characters in such a way that the viewers had never seen before, Yasir Nawaz directed it in such a way that turned this script into a masterpiece.
Khudgarz was a melodrama but strong female characters and their bonding which selflessly tied them together was one of the most refreshing aspects of it. Khudgarz also showed that even in an arranged marriage, a couple can fall in love and lead a happy life. This drama had characters that touched our hearts and lead such a journey that struck a chord. Amina Sheikh, Syed Jibran, Sami Khan & also Mansha Pasha got to show their talent like never seen before. Intense acting elevated the level of this drama a couple of notches. Also, a short but very special character of Omar played by Yasir Nawaz was also a treat for the viewers because through his character, the writer touched to hearts of viewers and made soul-searching a little easier. Watching Khudgarz was an experience within itself and that is why, it is rated as the best drama of 2018!
Suno Chanda
Writer: Saima Akram Chaudhry Director: Aehsun Talish Producer: Momina Duraid (MD Productions) Channel: HUM Cast: Iqra Aziz, Farhan Saeed, Nadia Afghan, Samina Ahmed, Adnan Shah Tipu, Farah Shah, Farhan Ali Agha, Sohail Sameer, Sami Khan (child star) and others.
Suno Chanda was a delightful, entertaining and gripping Ramazan special show. The overall concept of the show was somewhat like Aangan but unlike Aangan, it did not have a lot of underlying messages and was pure entertainment. Jiya and Arsal , the main protagonists, were the primary attraction of the show. Farhan Saeed and Iqra Aziz’s on-screen chemistry and the way their narrative had been penned down as well as executed made their story a delight to watch. The witty and humorous script made every episode a must-watch. For the first time a child playing a comic role in such a serial got a great deal of attention and appreciation. The child star Sami Khan who played DJ’s role in the show simply nailed his character. This drama also had a beautiful OST which was just as delightful as the drama itself.
Suno Chanda was a nice break from all those comic drama serials which rely heavily on cheap comedy. It was witty, hilarious, involving and if you haven’t watched it yet, you must tune into it right now!
Aakhri Station
Writer: Amna Mufti Director: Sarmad Khoosat Producer: Kashf Foundation & Khoosat Films Channel: ARY Digital Cast:Sanam Saeed, Eman Suleman, Nimra Bucha, Malika Zafar, Ammara Butt, Anam Goher, Sara Khawaja, Razia Malik, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Tipu Shah, Sarmad Khoosat and others.
Aakhri Station was deep, meaningful and just plain beautiful! Everything about this drama was brilliant right from the get-go. It was a relatively short play which was meaningful, deep as well as gripping. Once you start watching this show, you won’t be able to stop! It gives hope and educates at the same time. The OST of this drama is equally impressive. It is yet another feather in Kashf Foundation’s cap. Amna Mufti’s script is compelling and all-encompassing.
Aakhri Station was a mini-series which did not only highlight the problems faced by women in a male dominated society which thrives on suppressing women but also showed how they eventually empower themselves. Aakhri Station is the story of seven women who meet by chance and end up finding out that they have a lot in common. Although the odds are against these women but they are strong and eager to fight their battles. Amna Mufti’s beautiful script got the perfect treatment which resulted in a drama which can easily be called a masterpiece. If you did not get a chance to watch this show before, do watch it online, you will not be disappointed.
Zun Mureed
Writer: Amna Mufti Director: Ahmed Kamran Producer: Moomal Entertainment Channel: HUM Cast: Nadia Khan, Omair Rana, Shamim Hilali, Hina Bayat, Khalid Anum, Aisha Gul and others.
Zun Mureed was a different journey altogether, this was the first time that a writer attempted and succeeded in shedding light on the issue that making laws is not enough, ensuring that they get implemented swiftly and most importantly changing the mindset of the people is the biggest challenge. The main protagonist Tabbasum’s journey throughout showed that she had more critics than supporters. On the other hand, there were so many people who endorsed what her husband Sajjad did. There was an important message for the men in this drama too and perhaps one which was not that easy to accept which is why this drama was criticized a lot too! One of the most important messages in this drama was that women too should be respected and that women can also get hurt or offended just as easily as men do! Relationships come first and ego comes second, if people start sacrificing their relationships to satisfy their egos than the fate which awaits their children was clearly shown in this drama.
Zun Mureed was truly groundbreaking in more ways than one. It was progressive unlike many other dramas which continue to promote clichés and stereotypes. Nadia Khan’s weak performance was the biggest flaw in the play but all the other actors played their respective roles superbly. Zun Mureed was appreciate by all the receptive viewers out there who wanted something more than just entertainment from a television show.
Visaal
Writer: Hashim Nadeem Director: Ali Hassan Producer: Big Bang Entertainment Channel: ARY Digital Cast: Zahid Ahmed, Saboor Ali, Hania Amir, Firdous Jamal, Tahira Imam, Touqeer Nasir, Saife Hassan and others.
Visaal was a unique story of a con man but it just didn’t end there as the writer took the viewers through his life, his background, his thought process and everything that he planned and plotted. Visaal was also a story of jealousy and hatred, followed by the severe consequences that people had to face because of someone else’s mistake. It is not too often that Pakistani drama buffs get to see stories like Visaal where unconsciously everyone wanted things to work for a con man because despite being one, his clear conscience could be totally seen and that made everything very interesting. Visaal’s script was different because it showed everything in a very matured manner.
Visaal had characters that were layered and it was fun exploring them. A touch of comedy along with some superb performances by Zahid Ahmed and Saboor Ali made Visaal a drama to remember. It is commendable how the writer didn’t just create a basic love-triangle, in fact he added so much depth in each and every scenario that it made everything quite intense. Even though the character of a female lead played by Hania Amir was weak and nothing special, Saboor Ali took the front seat and Zahid Ahmed carried the entire drama on his shoulders.
Belapur Ki Dayan
Writer: Inam Hasan Director: Saife Hasan Producer: Momina Duraid (MD Productions) Channel: HUM Cast: Amar Khan, Sarah Khan, Usama Tahir, Shakeel, Irfan Khoosat, Adnan Siddiqui Umer Naru, Ismat Zaidi and others.
Belapur Ki Dayan was the perfect combination of horror and suspense, it was the kind of drama that kept you at the edge of your seats. Saife Hasan’s skillful direction, the excellent work done by the director of photography and a story which had tons of surprises are few of the reasons why this drama was one of the best dramas of 2018! The overall setting of the play was also perfect, the location couldn’t have been better. The strong attention to detail gave every scene a realistic touch.
The past and the present scenarios were seamlessly woven together in the drama. The performances were convincing and the execution couldn’t have been better. This show set the standard high for horror shows and was one of the best from this genre in 2018.
Nibah
Writer: Radian Shah Director: Aabis Raza Producer: Big Bang Entertainment Channel: ARY Digital Cast: Aamina Sheikh, Asif Raza Mir, Savera Nadeem, Anzeela Abbasi, Abdul Ahad Khan, Sundas Tariq, Amir Qureshi and others.
Drama serial Nibah was a remake of an old classic Aanch. Making a remake of a classic is always a risky affair but this one surely fit the bill. Nibah can easily be termed as a more improved and polished version of the original drama. Unlike Aanch, the characters in Nibah were not black and white. The biggest difference between the two serials was that in Nibah, the entire blame was not put on the woman! Nibah was one of the very few dramas this year which you could tune into at 8pm and enjoy watching it with your family. Aamina Sheikh’s performance was the highlight of this drama and the nuanced characters were the main attraction. It is always a treat watching Asif Raza Mir perform and in this play it was even more so because he played the role of a flawed, broken and sensitive man.
This drama covered the journey of two mature people who were tied in a difficult marriage. It explored how sometimes when fate is against you, it takes patience and perseverance to ultimately get through.
Meri Guriya
Writer: Radain Shah Director: Ali Hassan Producer: Big Bang Entertainment Channel: ARY Digital Cast: Mohsin Abbas Haider, Sonya Hussyn, Sania Saeed, Sajid Hassan, Ayesha Khan (Senior), Faris Shafi and others.
Meri Gurya is in this list because it is not like the other dramas which dealt with child abuse in the recent past. This one shows how the mind of a child rapist and murderer works and the way he operates. It also shows how important it is for the victim’s family to fight for justice in whatever way possible and never give up. The educational value of this drama cannot be overlooked. It is also gripping and disturbing at the same time. There are times when you feel that the writer has taken inspiration from Udaari too but overall the final product is nothing short of impressive. It has powerful characters, a solid storyline, immaculate direction and most importantly some of the most strong female leads we have seen in recent times.
Mohsin Abbas Haider’s performances makes you forget about Joi and even Imtiaz from Udaari. Dabeer’s character is the most evil and darkest character we have seen in a Pakistani dramas. Sania Saeed and Sonya Hussyn both are absolutely brilliant together as well as individually.
Lashkara
Writer: Zafar Mairaj Director: Kashif Nisar Producer: Six Sigma Productions Channel: ARY Digital Cast: Imran Ashraf, Ushna Shah, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Noor ul Hassan, Saba Faisal, Saba Hameed and others.
Lashkara was a story revolving around a beautiful girl Bubbly who is the centre of everyone’s attention but unfortunately, her life turned out to be anything but beautiful. This drama started off on a lighter note but took a turn and then it was made obvious that the story had much more to it and the writer wanted to touch and explore a completely different subject altogether. It was interesting to see that in the initial phase of the drama, no one could actually figure out that Lashkara’s story was going to touch upon the subject of acid attack and its victims. The way the director and the actors tackled the story of Lashkara made it a very interesting drama because it didn’t deal with the subject of acid attack in a typical manner and prepared a ground intelligently right from the beginning about what was yet to come.
Lashkara happened to be a drama that had so much to its credit – phenomenal performances by every single actor as well as supporting actors, intelligent direction with some brilliant camera work and amazing aesthetics. Even though Lashkara did not get the recognition and attention that it deserved, due to a different story and unique execution, it definitely was one of the best dramas of 2018.
So, this was the list of Best Pakistani Dramas of 2018. We believe ARY Digital definitely won the race this year by giving the viewers some amazing dramas consistently. Please feel free to add to the list and share your perspective.
PS. The list is in no particular order, the dramas which are currently on air are however at the end.
Ohkay so, this episode of Dil Mom Ka Diya was again pretty basic. The story is pretty situational that is why despite it being a good watch, it doesn’t give me much to talk about. Dil Mom Ka Diya is a guilty pleasure sort of a drama that one can just watch for the sake of it without getting too involved in the story or characters!
Developments:
Again, the focus of this entire episode was on Ulfat, her jealousy & her insecurities. It is unfortunate that despite having such a supportive & understanding life partner as well as being surrounded by people who do not meddle in her affairs, Ulfat keeps on looking for opportunities to create issues. The biggest contradiction in Ulfat’s perspective is that she herself does not allow anyone to have a say in her personal affairs but when it comes to others, she just can not help getting involved.
Ulfat has clearly drawn a line with Salma that she does not like her enough to entertain her therefore her plan of visiting Salma’s place clearly told that Ulfat was just looking for a chance to create trouble for Salma as well as Afzal.
It is too obvious that Afzal is slowly running out of patience with Ulfat that is why in this episode especially, he was seen snubbing Ulfat & setting her straight where she went wrong. Afzal has treated Ulfat with a lot of kindness & he also doesn’t even respond to her negativity but Ulfat doesn’t see that. I liked that Afzal told Ulfat honestly that only because she created a scene before, Salma did not invite Ulfat this time to meet Kausar’s in-laws to be.
Tamkinat has already secured a place in everyone’s heart for herself. She is genuinely nice & because everyone in Afzal’s family has only had a bad experience with Ulfat, they are treating Tamkinat with a lot of respect as they can now see that she is way better than Ulfat & is not like her at all. It was amusing to see Ulfat going through so much of hassle to only compete with Tamkinat on her Nikkah but it again shows that because there’s nothing wrong in her life, these petty things are her adventures & are things that excite her.
Afzal was hurt because of the way things were returned from Ustad Jee’s house. It was good that no one beat around the bush & they all clearly understood that it definitely must’ve been because of Ulfat. Tamkinat’s stance on supporting her Chacha & Chachi was heart-warming & the conversation that took place between her & Afzal was sweet too.
Closing Thoughts:
The best thing about Dil Mom Ka Diya is that things are pretty straight forward & there is no miscommunication or communication gap between the characters. Everyone in this drama is shown to be pretty mature & wise barring Ulfat’s character & that is why they all try to solve a matter as soon as possible without going around in circles. Salma did not like Ulfat’s attitude so she clearly told Afzal. Ulfat complained & Afzal told her the truth too – this is something that does not usually happen in our dramas as the writers rely heavily on misunderstandings to prolong the drama but that is not the case with Dil Mom Ka Diya & that is what I like the most about it. One mistake that I noticed was Tamkinat in stead of saying Mubarik Ho Kausar says Mubarik Ho Zubi in the rishta pakka scene – in the flow she took actor’s name in stead of the character’s. These things definitely need attention because it define & elevate the overall execution of the drama. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Dil Mom Ka Diya.

India and Pakistan are known to have a lot of quarrels over the media. Cricket is a war and Pakistan has lost back to back two matches from India. This has caused a huge celebratory environment in India. Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akhtar is known to have a shot temper and he does not hold himself back about his opinions.
He was talking on an Indian channel after Pakistan had lost the first match. The Indian anchor started dragging the cleanliness drive they are having in India and mingling it with India beating Pakistan. She said that the match had become totally one-sided and asked Shoaib about his opinion.
Shoaib Akhtar got angry on her style and question. He said that he is a cricketer and should be asked cricket related questions. He is not going to answer any questions with this kind of language involved. Shoaib further said that he is a cricket star and not some union leader whom you are asking questions like that. The anchor then asked Shoaib to not get angry and went on to ask about Pakistan’s preparations. Here is what went on on the show:

Due to the upcoming water crisis, every Pakistani is encouraged to donate funds for the construction of Diamer and Mohmand Dam, even donation of Rs. 10 is appreciated because a single drop of water turns into an ocean one day.
Many Pakistani-American and renowned names of Pakistani industry have already contributed the amount of their income to dam funds, including Mian Daad, who decided to auction WC-1998 ball for funds, and boxer Muhammad Amir, who donated Rs. 1 million, and many others.
One of the famous veteran actresses is on the list, too. A well-known face of the late 90s, Babra Shareef, being a responsible Pakistani, donated Rs. 1 million. In her meeting with Cheif Justice Saqib Nisar, she said that Pakistan has given us so much now, it is our turn to give back to the country. She also appealed to everyone to donate whatever the nation can, even if the amount is only of Rs. 10.
It is definitely the responsibility of every Pakistan national to contribute their chunk of income to the development of Pakistan so that we can save our country from future crisis. We often say that the Pakistani government is of no use, but when the government decided to take steps towards betterment of the country, we should participate equally.
When we like a celebrity, we leave no stone unturned to know everything about them. We cherish every little detail that could be grabbed from their professional as well as their personal lives. What a fan wouldn’t give to know the minor details about their favorite personality. Sometimes it’s more about their philosophies, their views about things, their personality traits and their stances on social issues or social media issues but other times it’s the smaller things like their favorite make up product, their favorite food, things that are must in their handbags.
This time it’s a childhood picture of a star shining very bright on showbiz sky. It’s a picture of none other than Ushna Shah who has been in the industry for quite some time now. She was awarded with “Best Emerging Talent Female” at 4th Pakistan Media Awards and “Hum Award for Best Soap Actress” at 3rd Hum Awards for “Hum thehray Gunehgaar”.This gorgeous yet talented actress has done some marvelous work especially in “Alif Allah aur Insan”.
Her childhood was very innocent and beautiful and she turned herself into a Diva that she is today by her hard work, a continuous struggle and an unwavering passion and compassion.
Can you identify the difference in both? No? Let us tell you, they both are different ladies.
Shocked? Well, we tricked you!
Social media is always on a hunt to find celebs look-alikes. And it has succeeded in finding another look-alike, again. The picture above is of two entirely different celebs–Priyanka Chopra and Sonya Hussyn.
People always get excited when they are given compliment of bearing resemblance with a famous celeb, and yes they go gaga over it. This time people have found Priyanka look-alike in Pakistan and they think Sonya is the copy of Priyanka.
You still don’t believe us? Here, have a look.
Now you do, right? Well, we too think that she does bear a resemblance to Priyanka Chopra, especially at first glance, you can’t recognize whether they are different or one.
However, as usual, people tried to be judgemental about Sonya’s looks and criticized her for copying Priyanka, but who cares when it’s her natural resemblance.
Sonya Hussyn is a Pakistani actress, model and TV host. She is popular for her work in Kitni Girhen Baaqi Hain, Main Haari Piya, Marasim, and many more. She started her career in 2011 with Dareecha and made her film debut with Moor in 2015.
What do you think? Does she resemble Priyanka? Share with us in comments.
The twin sisters’ duo, Aiman Khan and Minal Khan have achieved success in a short span of time. Beginning from supporting roles, both the sisters have come a long way and are proudly doing lead roles on almost every channel.
As celebs reach new heights of success, their fans rarely know what’s going on behind the curtains–their background, struggles, hindrances, and much more. Similar is the story of Minal Khan and Aiman Khan.
In a recent interview with HSY, Minal Khan shared how her family has been a conservative one but in a positive way. She told that her father has always told them the ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ of working in the industry. She further told that despite belonging to such a background, it was never difficult for both the sisters to enter into the industry because their father always taught them the limits. Minal also revealed how their mother would go to their shoots and still goes with them on international tours.
As a Pakistani, we always think that celebrities are independent and open-minded, and they can do whatever they want to, even if it is wrong. But little do we realize that parents are always more protective of their children and there definitely are some limits of every profession.
Mother-daughter relation has abstract emotions that can’t be explained; it’s a friendship. The relationship has the most powerful connection which only the two can understand.
We see many pictures of Pakistani celebs with their kids daily, and we totally drool over their relationship. Similar is the relationship of Fiza Ali and her cute daughter, Faraal Fawad. Her Instagram feed is loaded with their pictures and they are legit #likemotherlikedaughter goals.
Here are some pictures of Fiza Ali and her munchkin to give you some #motherdaughtergoals;
Fiza Ali is a Pakistani model, host and actress. She made her modeling debut in 1999. In 2003, she started her acting career with the drama serial Mehndi, the famous drama of its times. She married Fawad Farooq in 2007 and remarried to Ayaz Malik. Earlier this year, she took her second marriage to Instagram and further added that she has left showbiz and will continue to host her game show. She has her daughter, Faraal with her former husband. The news shocked her fans as she never announced her separation from Fawaad.
Whether they sing, act or dance, these celebrities still manage to make fitness, a priority in their busy schedules. Yoga and Pilates might sound like the only workout option reserved for Stars but these days the celebrities are training more and more like professional athletes.
Fitness now more than ever has become part of who we are as a society. Every one yearns to have the perfect figure and physique but celebrities have to work on it even more because of the fitness goals that they have set for themselves due to the expectations of the fans. Secondly, while fit but not thin is a laudable concept – of course working out and eating sensibly to get a lean, strong body is a far better alternative to starving yourself on endless dieting cycles but this fit not thin notion has created a whole new level of body politics.
These celebrities have become super conscious about their physical health and they spend hours in gyms despite their hectic and back to back work schedule.

Having a single parent, especially a mother, is quite difficult. There are more restrictions and society’s paradigm of a single mother is something different. However, in contrast, we have seen many single mothers outshining and breaking stereotypes.
If we talk about Pakistan, we can see many single mothers who are the epitome of passion and strength. Examples like Muniba Mazari, Mahira Khan, Javeria Abbasi, and many more teach us the true meaning of strength and that women were never ‘fragile’ as the society think they are.
All of us know Iqra Aziz, who got fame after her Ramzan special project, Suno Chanda, but how many of us knew she is the daughter of a single mother? Iqra Aziz lives with her mother and sister.
In a recent interview with HSY, Iqra Aziz shared how life is with her single mother. In an answer to a question about her journey in this typical-minded society, she proudly told that girls with a single can do a lot, they can achieve a lot. She further shared that her mother was the first Careem captain and the best part was that everyone supported. She added that though people would think it was weird to be a Careem captain, she was proud that her mother broke gender-based stereotypes and worked amongst man.
Mahira Khan never fails to mesmerize her fans. The starlet rose to stardom with Humsafar and had not looked back since. Be it making name in Pakistan with superb dramas like Shehr e Zaat, Sadqay Tumharay or films as Verna and Bin Roye, Mahira has proved she is the biggest star of Pakistan.
Her Bollywood debut opposite none other than Shahrukh Khan and her stint at Cannes Film Festival have made Mahira the first choice for brands.
Her extreme beauty, poise and class is something that makes any thing she wears look classy and calls for the attention of the audiences.
Mahira has recently done a shoot for a clothing brand and she looked edgy in floral prints with her beautiful poses making pictures all the more beautiful. Here are the pictures:
Doesn’t she look ravishing in these looks? Mahira sure knows how to turn heads with her style. Which look did you guys like the best? Share in the comments section below!
Iqra Aziz is an emerging talent; she is called the New Sensation of the current Pakistani Drama Industry. She has grabbed attention of millions of viewers and a lot of directors and producers because of her innocent face and good acting skills. She is young; she is one of those new actresses who once got a chance to show their acting skills, they were all over in different dramas on different channels.
In conversation with HSY, Iqra was asked if fame had made her arrogant because fame has it in itself to make people that. The gorgeous actress said that it hasn’t made her arrogant or conceited, not because she is claiming to be that great, it’s actually the scolding she gets from her mother and her sisters on and off and it’s because of those of her friends who knew her before she became an actress. Iqra says that these things keep her grounded.
Iqra Aziz has been through ups and downs as every other person. She faced the allegations from a talent agency and then she was bashed for some of her pictures on social media. But she stayed strong and dealt with the situations wisely.
People crave to know the family side and family life of the celebrities and whenever a celebrity sibling appears on social media accounts of our favorite celebrities they instantly go viral and people get crazy. They can’t seem to get enough of their favorite actors’ life and they keep on sharing and keep on talking about their sibling until another celebrity sibling gets discovered and the never ending cycle starts again.
Recently a video and some pictures appeared on Sarwat Gillani’s social media account with a beautiful women who resembles Sarwat Gillani very much. That woman referred to as Sara by Sarwat had an uncanny resemblance with Sarwat and people started thinking that Sara is Sarwat’s sister but turns out that she is her best friend. Sara without any doubt is as gorgeous as her best friend.
Sara and Sarwat were vacationing in London, UK and apparently at the time the video was shot, they were walking on the bridge where Sara was seen talking in the video telling that they were going to Leicester Square where there are theaters, food and dance clubs.
Children share a very unique connection with their mothers and that special bond is savored and cherished by them. Mothers, even they are single mothers strive to help their children achieve greater things in life and become the best version of themselves. Mothers are multitaskers, they juggle between their roles as a working women, a householder, a mother and a social person as well. It’s great to see how effortless they make themselves seem in every single role of their lives.
Iqra Aziz, the Suno Chanda’s queen, shared recently on an interview with Tonight with HSY that her mother was the First Careem Captain. She said that in our society there is male domination, people tend to think that there are certain things that women can’t do , but her mother has proved herself to be a headstrong and a confident women.
Iqra said that her mother was a single parent and she is the one who taught her to be who she is today. She said it might be weird for some people to know that Actress Iqra Aziz’s mother is a Careem captain but she totally supported her mother and so did everyone else.
We should cherish our strong mothers who go through every thick and thin for her children.
Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was nice & took the story forward a great deal however I dread that things might start to get dragged from now on considering Nigar will get what she wants & she will continue to fool Taimoor’s too-good-to-be-true family. Things might get monotonous with Nigar winning every single time but I wish we get to see her real face coming through as soon as possible!
Developments:
Saba eloped & left everyone broken hearted, with Rashida to Shama to Taimoor & his sisters. The only two people happy with this entire scenario were Zafar & Nigar. The writer quite intelligently showed the ripple effect where Nigar’s selfishness literally ruined everyone’s life & one move of hers destroyed everything. Nigar stumbled upon Saba & Mateen that is when she devised a plan of helping them out & using Mateen to throw Zeba out of Junaid’s life too. Even though Zafar loves his daughter but his love is exactly the reason why Nigar has become so evil. Zafar’s love has brought out the worst in her & it is the worst a father can do for his child.
Nigar wanted Taimoor & because of one desire of hers, she went to such an extreme that people around her had to bear the consequences. Rashida died because she could not deal with what Saba did. Zeba died because of what Junaid did to her too & all this happened only because of Nigar. Taimoor was not himself anymore & I liked how it was shown that for the first time it was hard for the entire family of a guy to deal with what happened. I liked how the writer didn’t show that Taimoor moved on quickly forgetting what Saba did. Taimoor’s question to Rashida about knowing that Saba liked someone else was spot on, it was basically Rashida’s stubbornness that also pushed Saba to do something like this plus with Nigar’s generosity, both Saba & Mateen got the edge & the courage to run away!
It was unfortunate that Zeba’s character made an exit just like that. I wish the writer had turned her into a strong independent woman who had later succeeded in unveiling Nigar’s reality in front of Junaid. The way Zeba left rather seemed like a convenient way that the writer chose to deal with her character because right from the beginning it was suggested that Zeba was a helpless soul!
Junaid on his own was dealing with depression as well. Junaid & Taimoor are both victims of Nigar’s desire, her evilness & her selfishness & what is upsetting is that she puts on this facade which makes her look so sweet. I will add though that Shama’s emotional dependence on Nigar seemed a bit out of the place though. It is nice that Shama only believes in seeing the good in people but then to ignore the perspective & look out of her own children isn’t justified either. Shama knows too well that Taimoor does not like Nigar so to hear her take Nigar’s name as Taimoor’s future wife was upsetting. Shama is committing the same mistake as Rashida & considering Rashida was her best friend, Shama should have learned from her mistakes. In Rashida’s case, Saba had a way out but in Shama’s case, Taimoor will only sulk because he won’t find a way out as he will eventually agree to his mother’s wish of marrying Nigar.
The story of Balaa so far has shown Nigar & Zafar winning & it has set the ground for them to play but I am intrigued to see how Nigar’s reality will surface & what will be the end of her? I wish the writer does not show that committing such crimes for your loved one is justified by forgiving Nigar’s character in the end. She should definitely face the brunt of ruining so many lives.
Closing Thoughts:
Overall this episode of Balaa was a decent watch. I liked how the writer covered the mindsets of Taimoor & Junaid – two people who lost everything in love – two people who are victims to someone else’s evil plans. Junaid however had the option of standing by his wife right till the end but he gave up because Zafar & Nigar didn’t let that happen but still, there was a chance which he lost. Taimoor however is a pure victim but let’s see if he will ever confront the evil in his life. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.
Ohkay so, this episode of Lashkara was quite intense & interesting. What I loved the most about this episode was how they showed the perspective of people involved from all the sides; the victim, the culprit, those who judge & also those who sympathize & support the victim going through the toughest time in her life. Lashkara surely has given a very mature & sensitive treatment to the subject of acid attack & have given a lot of consideration to shed a light on the intricacies related to the gentel treatment that the victims deserve. The drama makers should take a bow for presenting this subject in such a manner.
Developments:
Bubbly was scarred not only from the outside but from the inside too. Going through such a test that too when you have not wronged anyone is a nightmare & that is why despite having a support of everyone, Bubbly could not cope up with the reality. Everything that she said & felt was so realistically portrayed because it is not easy accepting the fact that your face won’t be the same anymore. It was quite nice of Bubbly to rule Sunny’s name out of the suspects because she knew he could not do something like that.
Feeka’s involvement & presence around Bubbly was nice to see too. Feeka was making sure to be there for Bubbly, be there to learn how he should treat her & help her in healing both from the outside & the inside while still having this storm inside him wanting to find out the culprit & punish him for doing this to the love of his life. All the things that doctors said were essential part of this subject which were conveyed loud & clear. Victims of acid attack need to know that they are loved for who they are, this is cruicial in order to help them deal with this ordeal.
Sunny was also trying to put two & two together but I wish he & Feeka find the culprit to get the lead to Nikki & make her pay the price for what she has done. Akram & Nikki were on the same page but it seems Akram is done dealing with her too. Both Akram & Nikki should be punished & I wish they move the story to this aspect soon. The way Nikki was feeling restless went to show that somewhere it was the guilt that was not allowing her the peace of mind that she was looking for. Obviously, Nikki will never admit to this but though she might be scared of getting caught, more than that she was now feeling guilty of doing this to Bubbly. Akram only followed Nikki’s orders that is why his indifference seemed realistic. I liked how Nazeer continued to be Bubbly’s stan, her well-wisher, someone who has a lot of love & warmth in his heart for her. I love how he has this love for her which just shows everytime he comes in the picture.
Iqbal’s character is a depiction of those who in stead of worrying about their own people are concerned about what others are going to say. Salma & Sheedan’s continuous support for Bubbly is amazing to see. They genuinely feel for Bubbly & that is why take a stand for her when she falls apart or when anyone points a finger at her.
Closing Thoughts:
Overall, this episode of Lashkara was emotional & was perfectly executed. The credit goes to the director for extracting this acting out of all these actors & the credit goes to the actors too for performing to their full abilities. This subject definitely needed such performances to strike a chord & they have definitely succeeded in doing so. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Lashkara.
We have all seen actress Sara Razi Khan grow infront of our eyes. The young lady is all set to enter the new phase of her life. She is ready to get married soon. The actress had her bridal shower which was thrown by her younger sister and actress Arisha Razi Khan.
Sanam Jung also decided to arrange a bridal shower for the soon to be bride and invited many friends of her. Actresses Arooba Mirza, Suzzaine Khan and Sara Ali also joined the Team Bride. Sara’s mother was also present on the show.
The girls wore beautiful ball gown in pastels and looked fabulous whereas the host Sanam Jung opted for a black and gold outfit. Here are the pictures of Sara and her Team Bride:
Sara’s mother:
Team Bride:
Sara wore a gold gown when her sister threw the bridal shower and opted for a pastel colour this time. Which one of the outfit you liked? Which girl from team bride rocked her outfit more? And don’t you think Sanam should also have opted for a ball gown?
Sara is entering a new phase in her life and we wish her all the best for it. May she lives a beautiful and happy married life!
Ohkay so, this episode of Visaal took the story towards the winding up of the drama. Even though they have taken a good span of time to do so, I am glad that the drama is finally ending but the fact remains that Visaal happens to be one of the best dramas of this year because of the newness of the plot & characters!
Developments:
This episode of Visaal revolved mostly around what Taimoor felt & wanted to convey to Pari. Molvi Ghufran clearly told Taimoor’s parents that Pari was engaged to be married but Taimoor persisted that he wanted a single chance to let her know what he felt. It was nicely conveyed that Taimoor felt guilty during the time he was away, it made things quite real because it showcased how people have conscience that does not let them feel at peace especially when they know they have wronged someone.
Akram continued to push his agenda by further trying to stain Pari’s reputation but Munna chose to ignore whatever he heard about Pari. It is nice to see that Munna has his own mind too & despite being innocent, he holds a strong sense of judgment that is why he doesn’t let anyone’s opinion change his own opinion about Pari. Munna did fall in love with her based on how Pari looked like but after interacting with her he has fallen for her innocence & it is sweet that he is doing everything to prove his true love.
Pari finally gave Taimoor a chance, she read his letter but she is also ready to meet him. She knows that he has a lot on his mind & he is looking for a chance to explain himself. I am sure by now everyone can predict who Pari will end up with but the way things are progressing makes it all very interesting!
Closing Thoughts:
Overall, this episode of Visaal was nicely done. I am glad the drama makers took their time in showing the plot before & are now taking the time to reach to the closure as well. It is good that we all can say that the ending of this drama won’t be rushed & things will wind up properly. I wish there was more to Pari’s character but still the mental & emotional growth she has shown over the past few episodes does make her a good character. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Visaal.

The fashion industry has created some extreme beauty standards all over the world. You have to look a certain way to be successful or many do believe. This has caused an increased revenue for the dermatology industry as people get regular treatments as well as plastic surgeries and fillers to enhance or alter their features. The entertainment industry has been the main focus of this.
Pakistani industry has also seen many actresses who have changed a lot since their debuts. Many times the change is extremely apparent. The actresses have never ever acknowledged getting any procedures done to themselves but the looks tell a totally different story. From Mehwish Hayat to Ayesha Khan, many actresses have allegedly gotten some beauty procedures done. Here are some pictures:
