Turkish dramas have a huge fan following in Pakistan; people drool over Turkish plots and actors more than the local drama serials. One can watch Turkish dramas with Urdu dubbing on many popular local entertainment channels.
Ever wondered who are those talented people behind voice-overs? One of the most popular actresses had started her career by dubbing international drama serials, but little did she know her transitional journey is just ahead of her.
In an interview with the morning host Farah Khan, the ever-gorgeous actress, Sarah Khan shared how she had a career shift, but…it wasn’t easy.
She told, “I had dreamt of an acting career since childhood, but I ended up as a voice-over artist. Once, I got the chance to act in a project, but after that, I couldn’t work for another two years because I always thought it was something that required too much patience. But I realized I was always inclined towards acting since childhood. It was only then when I started and didn’t look back till date.”
One should always believe in one’s strength and abilities because a human is capable of much more than his own thoughts. Always believe in your dreams and never underestimate your talents and skills.
Tonight’s episode of Meri Gurya showed how after Samreen was rescued by Safina, the news that Dabeer was the serial killer spread like wild fire. While Shehnaz, Shahmir, Yawar and Safina were in shock when they found out the truth, Dabeer’s parents were clearly in denial. Dabeer’s mother in particular did not even want to think on those lines and she blamed Safina entirely for this “false” news. Everyone’s state of mind was presented in a convincing manner. When Safina came to Shehnaz and broke this news to her, the expressions on Shehnaz’s face in particular and that entire scene was really powerful.
Khaani Vibes
The conversations and some scenes tonight suggested that Dabeer’s mother had a big role to play in shaping up his personality. The fact that she always covered up for him even when she knew that he was wrong added to making him what he is today. I must say that I was expecting something entirely different and still hope that there is a better explanation for Dabeer’s criminal behavior and evil ways. This particular track gave Khaani vibes. The whole message of Khaani was that parents are responsible for a child’s upbringing and if they don’t do their job right, the society suffers. Dabeer was never shown as a spoilt child or a grown up seeking control but he always came across as a psychopath. Usually such people have bigger underlying issues. One person who still needs a reality check is Abida’s daadi. I was hoping that Dabeer’s track would in some way be linked to her but there was no such indication in this episode. The fact that Dabeer was always different from others was reinforced repeatedly therefore it seemed like some incident in his childhood changed his personality. Waiting to find out more about this particular aspect since putting the blame Dabeer’s mother is not convincing enough.
Sheikh Sahab’s Stubbornness
Sheikh Sahab’s stubbornness once again showed a different mentality which exists in our society. Talking openly about rape is considered a taboo which is why most rapists get away. Sheikh sahab has been shown as the samaj ka thekedar who cannot accept the fact that Shehnaz and Safina made him stand in a line to get his DNA tested. Similarly, Abida’s daadi was shown blaming the victims instead of blaming the rapist and the murderer. This unfortunately is the bitter reality of our society.
Shehnaz and Safina – Inspiring As Usual
Shehnaz has always been shown as a strong woman. Tonight, there were times when her strength was difficult to connect to but inspiring nevertheless. Sania Saeed’s brilliant performance continues to impress in every episode. Sonya Hussyn’s character too never fails to impress and inspire. Although Safina was completely shattered after discovering the truth but the amount of empathy she felt for all the mothers of the victims allowed her to carry on. The fact that Safina can feel other people’s pain enables her to do things most people are not even capable of doing. Empathy has always been the main driving force in her track. Even when she overlooked Dabeer’s flaws, she did it because she was trying too hard to understand him. The writer has etched-out both these characters brilliantly.
Appearances Are Deceptive – Parents Should Not Trust Anyone With Their Children
The most important message in this episode and the serial overall is that parents should never trust their children with anyone. I was waiting to hear from Abida’s father that he was the one who asked Abida to give Dabeer water on the night she disappeared but that never happened. Shehnaz rightly said that she did whatever she could to protect her children but sometimes you are completely helpless. The basic reason why no one doubted Dabeer was because he came across as a shy person who it seemed was incapable of harming anyone. He used this image to have an easy access to people’s houses and probably to trap his innocent victims.
Performances, Execution and Script
Just like every other episode, tonight too, the performances were exceptional. Mohsin Abbas Haider is extremely convincing and impressive in this role. Sania Saeed, Sonya Hussyn and Sajid Hassan gave phenomenal performances in this episode. Even the child star playing Dabeer’s cousin’s role acted so well. The director has done complete justice to this script. The overall feel of this play couldn’t have been better. There were some aspects of the story tonight which were not as impressive as the previous few episodes but overall the script continues to be engaging.
The Preview of The Next Episode
The preview of the next episode was short and to the point. The next episode will cover legal proceedings. Meri Gurya has been an engaging and fast-paced play so far, I hope it is wrapped up soon and has a logical ending.

Ohkay so, this episode of Dil Mom Ka Diya was decent enough to tune to. So far nothing special has happened but the focus on Ulfat’s character as well as the message that the writer Saira Raza has tried to convey through it has been pretty clear. Dil Mom Ka Diya is the kind of drama that is easy to watch but doesn’t really give you much to talk about because what you see is situational & nothing too deep to be discussed.
Developments:
Ulfat made it very clear that she won’t allow Azhar to get married to Tamkinat. Ulfat surely has issues & they need to be sorted. It is appreciable that she is unapologetically herself, at least that is better than being a hypocrite but then the way she is trying to interfere in Azhar’s life doesn’t really suit her. The more we get to see Ulfat, the more it becomes hard to like her. There is nothing wrong in being straight-forward but there is nothing right in being rude & vile & sadly, Ulfat comes across as that now. Ulfat has always been vocal about how she doesn’t & wouldn’t tolerate anyone’s interference in her personal affairs so why is she doing the opposite when it comes to Afzal’s family members?
Ulfat has everything going for her, she has a well-settled husband who loves her, she has a roof over her head, a son & a family who takes care of everything around her, plus acceptance & tolerance that everyone has shown towards her, so the things that she says or reacts on basically make her look like a bored housewife who finds cheap thrills in twisting things & then reacting on them only to kill her boredom. It seems since Ulfat can’t do much with her life & mostly has nothing better to do, she creates troubles for others especially Afzal as a time pass. The reasons that Ulfat mentioned where she didn’t want to see Tamkinat at the same spot as her were shallow & baseless. Ulfat is also not even ready to let Farhat, her younger sister get married to Azhar which clearly tells that no matter which ever girl Azhar would’ve chosen, Ulfat would’ve had problems with her. Ulfat already knows that no one in Afzal’s family holds high opinion of her, so it might be that she is scared of the constant comparison or competition she will be put through if Tamkinat becomes a member of her in-laws’ family – but then has she ever bothered about what they think about her before? Not really!!! Ulfat herself has never really paid heed to anything that Afzal’s family goes through so just because Tamkinat happens to be her cousin, she thinks she is entitled to react & oppose even though that’s not her place to have a say anyways.
Afzal has really treated Ulfat with utmost kindness but she still chooses to stay aloof to his feelings. It is quite interesting to see that even so much of patience & positivity has had zero influence on Ulfat. I guess it has a lot to do with her own mentality & perspective where she thinks she is this trophy wife that Afzal has scored & he should worship it like some idol. Afzal’s kindness is definitely being taken for granted but I am not sure what will happen IF Afzal will ever run out of patience.
Azhar had to actually convince Tamkinat & even though she liked him, she was too scared of Ulfat & the consequences she will have to face because of her. I liked that scene where in one moment, they showed two different perspectives – Azhar confessing his feelings to Tamkinat was taken differently by Afzal as well as Ulfat, it showed how they both are poles apart. Afzal respected Azhar’s choice & supported his decision & it was good to see him not letting Ulfat’s objection cloud his judgement. All the things Afzal said about Tamkinat went to show that he had formed his own opinion about her because of which he was being supportive of Azhar’s decision.
I really think Salma’s character gets a lot of screen-time & it looks boring & monotonous because Salma has nothing new to say apart from dissecting everything that Ulfat has done so far. I liked how Kausar tried to make Salma & Aqmal understand that they should respect Azhar’s choice & support his decision of getting married to Tamkinat because she is definitely better than Ulfat. Even in reality at times younger ones happen to be the voice of reason & this time around it was Kausar which was nice to see. This episode of Dil Mom Ka Diya ended on a positive note with Azhar & Tamkinat’s engagement but looks like Ulfat won’t sit still & do everything in her might to call it off.
Closing Thoughts:
Overall, this episode of Dil Mom Ka Diya was decent. This drama in general is the kind that one can tune to for good acting, direction, an eccentric central character & well executed family politics/dynamics. So far there’s nothing new to the story but the overall treatment does make it a decent watch. I think all the actors have done a fab job in portraying their characters. The Pakistani Academy Selection Committee, chaired by two-time Academy Award and Emmy-winning documentarian Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has selected the Asim Abbasi directorial Cake for consideration into “Foreign Language Film Award”. The Pakistani selection committee also includes Kamila Shamshi, Saira Kazmi, HM Naqvi, Hadiqa Kiani, Ali Sethi, Zoe Viccaji, Nadeem Farooq Paracha, Nabila Maqsood, Khalid Malik and Faisal Qureshi.
The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will select the final nominees for the categories and it will decide the fate of Cake. The Pakistani Academy is hopeful for Cake to get selected for the special category.

She is playing the lead role in Asim Raza’s Paray Hut Love. This is the second collaboration between Asim Raza and Sheheryar Munawar Siddiqui. They have previously worked together in Ho Mann Jahan. Like the previous one, this one is also produced by Sheheryar himself who is playing the male lead in the film.
Maya praised Sheheryar both as a person as well as a producer in her recent post. She went on to tell her fans that Shehryar is very caring about all the people working on the project and not just the stars. A very praise-worthy quality indeed.

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was well executed & quite interesting. I am glad that the story moved forward & there were a lot of developments to this episode’s credit. So far Balaa does have a story that has been seen before but the kind of execution that has been given to it as well as the characters makes it interesting enough to tune to every single week.
Developments:
Zafar & Nigar knew that if they will directly tell Junaid to divorce Zeba, he will never do that out of his love for her, that is why they started with their evil mind games only to further their agenda. Nigar wants Zeba out of Junaid’s life because after that Zafar will be able to push Shama to get Taimoor married to Nigar & Batool to Junaid. Even though Zafar & Nigar spent quite a lot of money as well as energy to malign Junaid’s heart against Zeba, it was unfortunate that it did not take a minute for Junaid to believe everything that was being presented in front of him.
At times Junaid did try to reason with Zafar & he also defended Zeba but he couldn’t stay firm because Zafar was adamant & was making sure that he kept on brain feeding his son against his wife constantly. Junaid might be the victim here but then I will label him as a weak individual who could not stand by his decision of protecting his wife & most importantly trusting her.
I guessed it right, Nigar & Zafar hired Mateen, Saba’s boyfriend, for this task. Nigar obviously saw him with Saba & knew that he would do anything to get her so I am sure she gave him 10 lacs to do this job which was a decent amount for him to get his life started with Saba on his own. Mateen did what he was asked to without thinking about the consequences that he will have to face later but for now, things turned out to be exactly how Zafar & Nigar wanted. Junaid will never be able to unsee walking onto Zeba & Mateen in the same room. I so wish they show Nigar & Zafar paying a huge price for ruining someone’s life like that.
On the other hand, Saba tried to talk to her mother once again but Rashida continued to praise her luck of scoring a damaad like Taimoor. I agree, anyone would want a damaad like Taimoor but it can not & should not be ignored if the girl who is being forced to marry someone is mentally ready for it or not? Saba did say rightly so that Taimoor might be nice but not necessarily meant to be an ideal for her but Rashida chose to overlook Saba’s wishes because she liked Taimoor more than Saba did. Whatever happened later was basically a result of Saba’s choices not being respected. If Rashida had allowed her daughter to be with the one she loved, this wouldn’t have happened!
Nigaar was lurking around only to showcase how nice & kind-hearted she is. Zafar didn’t want to be a part of Shama’s happiness but Nigar scored some brownie points by going against her father in front of Shama. Nigar is quite manipulative & it is sad that she is building up her relationship after destroying a couple of other relationships. Let’s see what price she will pay.
I feel Zeba should bounce back & show it to Junaid that she is better off without him. It was sad seeing her defeated & dejected already by saying again & again that she was nothing without him or his support. I am sure after their divorce the character of Zeba will make an exit from the story but I hope they keep her as a side track & do show her progress & how she works to become an independent strong woman only for Junaid to realize later that he was wrong about her. Let’s see if this happens.
Closing Thoughts:
Overall, this episode covered a lot of scenarios & details. I also like the filler scenes that Balaa has, it keeps things flowing nicely & help changing the scenario as well – like Taimoor & Saleha’s argument over different topics & Taimoor & Shama’s conversations, all of that makes it quite interesting. All of the actors are performing brilliantly but Sajid Hassan is fun to watch, Zafar’s mannerism is hilarious & the way he speaks, Sajid Hassan has really nailed this character.
