Weird Beauty Trends In Dramas

In any country, showbiz industry is the medium that sets trends and allows people to know what’s in and what’s out. Similarly, our drama industry plays a huge part in introducing new trends as well, because our Pakistani actors do everything to make sure they are up-to-date with the latest fashion/beauty trends in order to look good on screen. At times, the actors get to sport some outdated trends because they are in-line with the characters they are playing but other than that, even if something doesn’t suit the overall personality of the character, some of the actors still follow the latest trends compromising on the feel of the character only so that they can look fashionable and trendy on screen. These are some of the not-so-amazing trends that we have picked up which we constantly get to see being sported by our actors and actresses. Though they might think that they get away with these but we just can not stop noticing how weird they look. Some of these trends also promote and endorse stereotypes. In the field of acting in particular, looks are secondary and performance comes first therefore while in modeling following certain trends is somewhat justified, following these trends in dramas most often is unnecessary.

Here are some of these weird trends which are being followed religiously by some of the best actors in the industry.

Cheek & Lip Tints

No matter how grave the situation in the drama is, our actors make sure to look all rosy on-screen. Yes, we do understand that a light makeup is the demand of the camera and a slight flush of color on cheeks gives dimension to the face but going overboard is what makes them stand out and that too for all the wrong reasons. Where Benefit Cosmetics’ Benetint is popular with female actors, it seems Lollitint is popular with male actors, that is why most of them have this lilac/purple tint happening on their lips, which doesn’t look appeasing. It seems our actresses use Benetint on the nose too, hence the pink tip even in the scenes where they aren’t crying.

Weird Beauty Trends In Dramas

Crop Pants

This has to be one such trend which our male actors have picked from the Korean Showbiz Industry but to put it in simple words, it just doesn’t suit the Pakistani physique at all. Our actors wear ankle socks to show their legs to make things worse and in all honesty, it looks unflattering on them!

Weird Beauty Trends In Dramas

Johny Bravo Inspired Hairstyles

No matter how hard things are and no matter how their life is turning upside down in a drama, the puff on the head of our males actors stays intact and no thunderstorm, no hailstorm, absolutely nothing can move a strand of hair from its place. Looking neat and put-together is one thing but literally using Samad Bond on the head in stead of a gel is a bad bad idea, especially in the scenes where something serious is happening and requires the actors to look a little more natural.

Weird Beauty Trends In Dramas

Hair Extensions

Lately, short hair are in fashion therefore a lot of actresses in the industry opted for a really short length which definitely suits them all a lot. Aamina Shiekh, Armeena Rana Khan, Sonya Khan, Kubra Khan and Iqra Aziz recently transformed their looks completely by getting their hair cut short. Saheefa Jabbar faced criticism because of her short hair since the general opinion is that women look beautiful with long hair. Our drama industry has been religiously promoting this stereotype by making the most of hair extensions and by making sure that our heroines have beautiful long artificial locks so that they meet the “beauty standards” set by the society. While there are times when these extensions are blended really well and they look great, there are also instances when they look artificial and stand out for all the wrong reasons. If an actress is playing the role which demands long hair then it is completely understandable but when characters like Ayra and Pakeeza are forced to meet these standards then it is totally unnecessary. There was a time when our industry only promoted fair complexion but now long luscious locks seem to be the latest obsession!

Weird Beauty Trends In Dramas

Highlighting

Highlighting is the latest beauty trend which is being misused by many of our male and female actors. Highlighting right now is just as essential for our actors as was foundation at one point. With the exception of very few dramas which do not rely on the looks of the actors at all, many others are using highlighters like they are going out of fashion! Having a flawless glowing skin is more important for some actors than giving a good performance. And when these actors give average performances their highlighting is even more distracting as well as annoying.

Dyed and Sharply Drawn Beards

There is so much pressure on our male actors to look perfect nowadays that even their beards have to be perfectly dyed, sharp with a crispy hair line. No matter how uncouth or uneducated the character maybe but they are most often quite well acquainted with this latest fashion trend!

Weird Beauty Trends In Dramas

Some of the actors take their beards more seriously than others. There have been plenty of times when Osman Khalid Butt and Agha Ali in particular worked extra hard to make sure that their beards were so trim and proper that it was the only thing which stood out on their faces. This trend isn’t so fabulous because there are so many times when these dyed and sharply drawn beards look fake and hence are distracting.

Weird Beauty Trends In Dramas

Light Foundation On Dusky Male Actors

Zahid Ahmed is someone who has always been comfortable in his own skin and never tried to look fair on screen. He always embraced his dusky complexion but just like many other actors he too has been seen wearing a light foundation in drama serial Pukaar which doesn’t blend in with his complexion. Mohsin Haider’s foundation in Meeras doesn’t compliment his complexion either although he too is someone who always looked quite natural on screen before this play aired. There are other newcomers as well who would look fine if they used a foundation to match their skin tone but they are continuously seen on screen wearing light foundations which make them look more grey than fair!

Weird Beauty Trends In Dramas

Can you think of any other weird beauty trends in our dramas lately which are setting impossible beauty standards? Feel free to add to the list.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 6 Review-Okay!

0

It was a very average episode and the expected things took place. Arham is dying for Rushna. He is desperately in love with her and cannot survive if he wouldn’t get her. They finally set up the meeting but as expected things took a turn and Rushna thought Mehrab was Arham. The whole episode revolved around getting things fixed to result in a proposal visit from Arham’s side to Rushna’s home.

One thing I didn’t like was the overall attitude of Mirha towards this scenario. She has been shown as a girl who is always careful about her image and she knows that the blame will always fall upon her. But she still supported Rushna to pursue Arham and go on a date with him. A girl who is shown to be intelligent and knows how pathetic her living conditions are should not be so dumb. Her chachi was her usual self with constantly bashing her character and she once again showed what a hypocrite she is when she didn’t object her own daughter’s rishta fixing. She had no problem with Rushna finding a boy for herself and didn’t question her daughter’s advancements towards some unknown boy.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 6 Review-Okay!

Mehrab loves his brother too much and treats him like a baby. He wants to get him everything he ever dreams of. But he has unknowingly become the obstacle in his brother’s love life. Since he is the more handsome one of the duo, the shallow Rushna fell for him at first sight and all the stuttering Arham was doing about his common looks actually played out to be true. Mehrab likes Mirha but he thinks she is Arham’s Meena. His absence from the rishta is going to cause serious problems for Arham.

This episode was an average and totally just OKAY. Preview for the next one, however, looks promising. Mehrab is going to act out on Mirha due to his misunderstanding and that will cause problems for the poor girl. Let’s see what happens!

Riz Ahmed Lauds Pakistan’s First Transgender News Anchor Marvia Malik

Kohenoor News — a private television channel – went on-air last week with a transgender person on the screen as its news anchor.

Marvia’s incredible success story was celebrated by celebrities, journalists and activists from all over Pakistan who were quick to praise her on social media.

British-Pakistani actor and activist Riz Ahmed was also the part of the lot that celebrated Marvia, in a recent Instagram post, he also lauded Pakistan’s first ever transgender news anchor, Marvia Malik.

Taking to social media, the Venom star wrote,

“Congratulations to Marvia Malik. In some ways, Pakistan has been ahead of the curve in certain aspects of trans rights. In other ways, it has lagged behind. Hoping we can all learn from each other in paving the way to greater inclusion.”

Khamoshi Episode 26 Review-Absurd!

0

The big reveal for this episode would have been Sabir’s death but we already knew about it from the last week’s preview. Even his permission for Arsala to get married to Shahram was already shown in the preview. Sabir got ab heart attack and the whole family was again being shitty. The mother’s attitude is so disappointing that I cannot describe it in words. She didn’t even hear the whole thing from Sabir or Arsala or anyone else and presumed that her daughter is characterless. Now, what were your thoughts on your younger daughter chasing her sister’s fiance lady? She will accept her money and make her work like bulls but still blame her for all the bad stuff happening in the world.

Khamoshi Episode 26 Review-Absurd!

Atif’s attitude is incomprehensible too. You left her, married her sister and realized later that you were wrong but you are still being a whiner about it? Passing comments on Shahram are too uncalled for from a man who married his fiance’s sister. Naima was being her normal self with saying stupid stuff about everyone and not helping the family with her dowry money. Her outburst on Arsala is also not making any sense now since her husband does not care about her even when Arsala is not around.

The worst thing about today’s episode was the protagonist being slut-shamed for no reason at all. From the preview it looks like that she will not even bother to defend her character. They somehow tried to make Sabir’s permission the highlight of the story but what about them showing a girl working day and night for a thankless family and not even say a word when they trash her character. I think marriage and romanticism took a seat back today when they showed her crying in every spot and are making her a Khamosh larki on such a sensitive topic, that too in the last few episodes of the drama. This is a point where she should have spoken for her rights. She can atleast share everything with Guddu. But in the end, good story and script can go to hell and Khamoshi wins!

Laal Ishq Episode 25 Review – Exciting But Slow

This was the first episode that did a great job as usual in making you look forward to the next one but sadly, did not give much to reflect upon on its own. It would have been wonderful if a little more had been shown about the aftermath of Mahi’s death.

Laal Ishq Episode 25 Review - Exciting But Slow

In the dark of the night, as it poured heavily and the heavens cried on the death of an innocent, Punar and Muneer have made an anonymous grave for Mahi in the woods, where she will be quiet forever and the spark of her life, her love all has blown out. Mehr Chiragh could not stop his tears and while it was so hard to see him sad, it was also harder to forget that he had been ally in the silencing of the only voice of life in their haveli.

Laal Ishq Episode 25 Review - Exciting But Slow

Farhad has the feeling of loss in his heart. He knows something is wrong with Mahi, and he is not able to calm down. Arsalan Idrees was just amazing in his short scene today. His expressions, body language and tone, everything was perfect in depicting the agony of a lover who was so close to his destination and suddenly it has slipped out of his hand again. He has made Bali and Jajji aware of the dangers he thinks Mahi is in and Jajji is now realising what a blunder he has committed in forcing Farhad to send Mahi back.

Laal Ishq Episode 25 Review - Exciting But Slow

In the Mehr household, Mehrunnisa is shedding crocodile tears. She is an evil woman, a vengeful soul whose existence is enough to destroy all sorts of goodness in her surroundings. She has killed her beautiful, loving daughter in her hatred for someone who has spent twenty years in prison already and knowing full well that Mahi and Farhad did know about eachother’s paternal identity when they fell in love. Worse is Punar who is her puppet. What’s the point of showing Punar as the soft and kind youngster of today if he is going to be this cruel at the end. His sadness at Mahi’s demise was certainly not enough. There should have been some forgiveness for his only sister and some anger at the mother who killed her in cold blood.

Now Jajji and Bali are trying to do damage control and they have gone to Yawar Kamal for help and advice. It seems as if Yawar Kamal, Jajji, Bali, Farhad and even Mahi herself were not aware of the dangers of Mehrs’ anger. It took Fakhira to point out to them that they would not be heartbroken at the running away of their daughter. Rather, Mehr Chiragh is heartbroken beacuse Mahi has been killed.

The promo was very promising. It seems as if Rameen will go to any extent to save Farhad and Punar will cross all limits of cruelty and revenge and maybe marry her forcefully , since her mother’s fasts are now dependent on Farhad’s death, not Bali’s. Whole lives are  being wrecked and ruined at the whim of a woman who fasts everyday in the prayer that her enemy’s murder will free her of this pact of unending fasts. By the way she is in remarkable health for someone who is eating nothing but dates and water for twenty years. A raw vegan Mehrunnisa, thirsty for human blood…

Salman Khan Wants Atif Aslam To sing For Race 3!

There has been a huge fiasco recently when the ban came again on Pakistani artists by Bollywood. This time they specifically targeted top-notch singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam. Consequently, Atif Aslam refused to promote a song he sang for a Bollywood movie. He was also not given credit for his song in Baaghi 2 which recently released. Despite rising tensions, Salman Khan wants Atif Aslam to sing the song he has written himself for his movie Race 3.

Noor un Ain Episode 8 Review – Meesni Got Married!

Ohkay so, when this episode ended I had a smile on my face, not because of how sweet or amazing it was, only because of how wrong & nonsensical things were. I mean I feel for the actors, I really do because they were trying so hard to convey the emotions but they weren’t coming through because there’s a thing called substance & that particular thing is missing from the story. Now I know when the Team Noor un Ain came on Good Morning Pakistan, despite Nida Yasir’s continuous attempts, she failed in getting the details from them all because in reality, there is nothing special that they could have talked about. Everyone kept on saying that it is a very simpleee story, veryyy simpleee story whereas now we all know that this story is not only simple, it isn’t original to begin with!

Noor ul Ain & Khizar got Nikkaofied & then few moments later when one of Khizar’s friends joked or rather spoke the truth, Noor couldn’t take it because gugu ko bula lag gaya. I mean did Noor really expect that people will welcome her & Khizar with garlands & shower roses on them after what they have done? Noor’s like ‘mai logon ke sawalon se ghabrati hoon’ hmmmm, so aisa kaam nahi karna tha na boring larki jahan logon ke sawalon ke jawab dene parain. I mean how lifeless is she? I mean she got married to the love of her life, I am talking about that ultimateee love because of whom she didn’t even bother about her parents, the love because of whom she was having sleepless nights & when she got married to him, she didn’t even smile? Seriously? Taking Poker-Face to a whole new level!!!

Well, I am not sure about others but I couldn’t stop giggling when Khizar’s card declined, matlab Nikkah ka khana hi decline ho gaya? LOL! That entire scenario was quite amusing & then the same friend jisay Noor ne Khizar ko batain sunanay ko kaha tha, ended up paying the bill, hahaha!

Well, it was quite weird that Khizar’s mom despite being so rigid didn’t react one bit when she found out that her aik iklota beta got married to Noor, like why was she so cold as if her son bought a wrong sized T-shirt & didn’t get married? Also, Khizar’s protest & baghawat was so masoomana & polite, I mean my 7 month old baby Khizar protests louder than this grown up Khizar. I mean Khizar was talking to his mother about such a do-or-die situation & still there was no finality just nothing in his tone!

So, Noor was feeling guilty & I also couldn’t stop lol’ing at Qasim’s timing because it was all wrong. He decided to tell Noor what a wonderful daughter she is & what an amazing father he has been just when she got married behind his back. Uncle jee ye baatain pehle kar lete to beti shayad unhain bata ke ye gul khilati. I still can not understand why Noor stopped talking to her family just like that? Well Ghazala played another game & told Qasim to invite Sofie’s in laws, as she obviously wants Qasim & Co. to get embarrassed in front of them but then again, I will not blame her because it is Noor who decided to go ahead with this marriage & in this clueless khandaan, it is good to see that at least there is one person who uses her brains. I must say, I feel the need to thank that person who invented Mute button because the moment the episode ended & that singer was about to contaminate my ears with her voice, I muted the TV. All hail mute button! I so wish, all these guys hadn’t signed this project because of each other, like Sajal chose this because of Sarmad, Sarmad went ahead because of Imran Abbas, Imran Abbas decided to do this because of Marina & Sarmad…I wish they all had paid attention to the script to save themselves from such an average drama. Anyways please share your thoughts!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Zun Mureed Episode 5 Review – Bearing The Brunt!

This latest episode showed the aftermath of Tabbasum’s decision to use the bill which was meant to protect women like her to shelter herself from a husband who she thought might kill her. Tabbasum’s interpretation of this entire situation made perfect sense since the circumstances were such that she had reason to believe that Sajjad might harm her even more than he already had. Her body language also suggested that the injury she got as a result of their fight was quite serious although it wasn’t taken seriously at all by anyone. The way Tabbasum’s character has been written suggests that she is a strong woman who would do whatever it takes to contribute to her marriage and in return all she wants is respect from her husband but Nadia Khan’s performance keeps you wondering! Somehow, she makes Tabbasum look like a bechari even in situations where she takes some really bold decisions. Nadia Khan is a complete misfit in this role since she hasn’t been able to bring out the best in her character.

Tonight, while everyone else was either busy worrying about Sajjad or family’s honour, Tabbasum’s sister was the only one who was worried about her.The entire scenario was covered realistically with the exception of the fact that Tabbasum thought that her husband would let her stay in the house even after everything that happened. Although Sajjad was the one at fault and Tabbasum wasn’t going to let anyone convince her otherwise but especially because of the way this news was covered by the media she shouldn’t have expected everyone to support her. This episode however flawlessly depicted that it wasn’t practical for a woman to seek protection under the law in a society where it is alright for a man to hit a woman but it isn’t okay when a woman protests as a result. There were some developments which didn’t quite work for me but the reactions from the family members were covered really well.

Zun Mureed Episode 5 Review - Bearing The Brunt!

It was amusing watching Maryam tell Tabbasum that she would have supported her, had Tabbasum reached out for her instead of complaining to the police. This was a blatant lie which was meant to make Tabbasum feel bad about what she had done. Tabbasum knew she couldn’t reach out to anyone which is why she ended up taking this step. This entire scenario also shows how people like Maryam and Tabbasum’s bhabhi cannot handle the fact that two people are happily married but will be the first ones to judge if something goes wrong! Both these women contributed to the problems between Sajjad and Tabbasum which escalated into something far bigger than they had expected it to. I am very sure Maryam won’t be able to handle her mother or run that house on her own for too long. Maryam’s husband was the only person who tried to handle the situation but even he indirectly blamed Tabbasum when he said that working women are strong headed. The way he read what Bi Jaan wrote showed that he was shocked at the role she was playing in this entire situation but at the same time, he did whatever he could to add fuel to the fire.

Bi Jaan’s character isn’t even remotely likeable but it is really interesting because her reactions to different situations right from the first episode show the mentality of all those people who get pleasure out of watching other people suffer. This episode also showed the irresponsibility with which media covers such issues. The news channels are so desperate to cover any news which gets attention that they don’t think twice before invading other people’s privacy and they completely forget what repercussions their actions could have.

While all the other actors were absolutely brilliant in this episode, Nadia Khan’s performance continues to be the weakest link in this play. There are plenty of actresses in our industry who could have nailed this role and made it easier for the viewers to understand the character.

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 7 Review – Entertaining!

Tonight’s episode wasn’t as happening and horrifying as the previous one but it was engaging and the story is moving forward gradually. This drama keeps your interest alive and keeps you at the edge of your seat as well even though some of the developments at times can be disappointing, the execution is always on point! Aziz sahab’s reaction even after having a direct interaction with Neelo was difficult to connect to since he wasn’t even shown thinking about it which only makes you wonder what was going through his mind. Later on, everything he said about Neelo also made me wonder why he felt for her all of a sudden even though she threatened him directly. Does he think he was imagining stuff or he feels that it was a dream? His reaction clearly suggested that he did not take this encounter seriously and he was convinced that locking up that door would solve all the problems his family was facing. This drama would have been even more interesting if Tasha’s character got a little more screen time and her relationship with all her family members was well established before Neelo took over her soul. Despite of all these shortcomings so far this has to be the best horror drama made in Pakistan because it has an interesting story which has been given the right treatment.

This episode opened with Alia getting a text from Rameez’s friend. She was already feeling helpless and frustrated because she wasn’t able to convince her husband in particular that Tasha needed a different kind of help to heal her therefore she decided to meet him and was more convinced than ever that she needed to do something. The scene in which he called the spirit was shot really well. All such scenes have been covered in detail which is why they have more of an impact. The actor playing Rameez’s friend’s role is incredibly talented, his performances in Sammi, Na Maloom Afraad 2 and now in this drama have been absolutely phenomenal. He has already established himself as an actor who loves playing challenging roles.

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 7 Review - Entertaining!

Just like the previous two episodes of Bela Pur Ki Dayan, this one too covered some of the back story as well. Adnan Siddiqui’s character was introduced in this episode as Shakir, who was Neelo’s father’s friend’s son and these two ended up falling in love with each other. Neelo’s brother played by Umer Naru, suspected them both and wasn’t happy with his father’s decision that Shakir should teach Neelo. The back story reveals why Neelo is so restless and incredibly angry. It is being revealed slowly which I think is a great idea. These scenes have also been shot superbly and they give you something to look forward to.

Alia and her mother in law’s decision to investigate the locked room was the most bizarre part of tonight’s episode since even if they found out there was paranormal activity in that room, there wasn’t much they could do about it. If Rameez’s friend accompanied them and they executed their plan when no one was home, it would have made more sense. This scene however was spooky but I am still waiting to find out how it will impact the story.

Overall, this was an entertaining episode which piqued my curiosity. The performances have been spot on throughout and the direction never falters. It is difficult waiting a whole week to watch a new episode of this drama!

Pukaar Episode 8 Review – Stagnant!

Ohkay so, this episode of Pukaar was pretty slow & practically nothing happened in it which could’ve taken the story forward. To put it in simple words, this episode was just an elaboration of the note at which last episode ended.

Samra contiued to be treated as a prisoner in a house arrest. No matter what, I find it ridiculously irrational & unrealistic that Samra is not allowed to speak to or meet her parents & not only that, even when they call, their calls are deliberately screened. Laali Ma is one twisted woman & sadly, she has another loon hovering around her waiting for her sick orders to fulfill them. This episode just showed Samra & her mother’s struggle to get in touch with each other but then eventually they both succeeded. I am usually not a fan of the mistreatment that is shown in our dramas towards servants but I couldn’t stop smiling when Samra set Zamani straight because she really needs to know her place & she deserved it!!!

Well, Saarang was pretty taken aback after his meeting with Sultan. Saarang actually didn’t take Sultan seriously & he wouldn’t have if Sultan hadn’t told him his mother’s name, Amna. Saarang obviously was forced to stop & think about whatever he heard because he couldn’t really understand why would a stranger call himself his father & then claim to be his mother’s husband. Obviously, Amna was shocked because she really didn’t see this coming as she had lied to Saarang about his father’s death & it seemed they both lived a fulfilling life together without the need of another male figure in their lives.

Well, Samra escaped & ran away. I don’t blame her, who would want to live in a prison like that. It was sad that even Tashfeen backed out & didn’t help Samra but still, she at least has some compassion left in her which is nice.

This episode was pretty basic but yes, the preview of the next episode seemed promising. Direction & acting everything is pretty good but I don’t understand how many times are we going to see Samra going up & down the staircase in slow-mo with OST echoing in the background? It is way too monotonous now! Anyways, please share your thoughts.

Aangan Episode 21 Review – True Depiction of Reality!

Ohkay so, it was yet another realistic episode of Aangan. Faiza Iftikhar should definitely take a bow for giving us such a beautiful drama laden with thought-provoking messages. This definitely has to be one of Faiza’s finest works & I am sure it is going to stay with each one of us for a long long time.

Even though Hajra has a complete right to make the best decision for Sadaan, I find her a little irrational that she has just made up her mind against his marriage with Afrah without any solid reasons. Yes, Hajra found it a little offensive that Afrah came to attend the family get together which was arranged to celebrate Sadaan’s graduation but other than that, just because she knows that they both love each other, Hajra has said no. I don’t know why but I have a feeling Sadaan will take a huge step which Hajra might regret later!

This episode focused on the new member that Laila couldn’t wait to welcome in her life. Laila’s excitement was so beautifully portrayed. Laila knows what it is like living without a child & that is why she was doing everything & walking an extra mile to make sure that she was fully prepared for the baby. Laila obviously has big shoes to fill & I can totally see how she will be judged & scrutinized every step of the way but I loved seeing how possessive Laila already was for the baby even before he was born!

Anila obviously came to do what she is good at but I loved the way Zaitoon silenced her. Whatever Zaitoon said left Anila speechless because even she knew that her mother had a point. Having a baby does not guarantee that a husband won’t get married again, so it was so wise of Zaitoon to show Anila the other side of the picture that just because she has had children doesn’t mean it was prohibited for her husband to get married again. Allauddin stirred the pot but I was actually taken aback with the way he addressed this scenario in front of Zahid, because he was so manipulative. Allauddin depicted a typical mentality where he felt that giving away a daughter would mean getting rid of your burden but giving a son away would be equivalent to losing an asset. Zahid may be stern or rigid, but I find him gullible as well that is why after having a conversation with Allauddin, he started having second thoughts & decided to find out the gender to act accordingly!

Well, I don’t know what secret Asim & Zahid are carrying in their hearts but it did look like they both are equally responsible for something, like they both are guilty but it is Zahid who is doing the heavy lifting on behalf of Asim, at least this is what I deduced from their conversation. Laila saw the cheque but because she trusts Asim so much & also because he knows how to tackle Laila, she immediately forgot about everything without even thinking that things might not be as simple as they seem!

Rubina gave birth to a baby boy & it was so sweet to see how Laila was taking care of everything, from shopping to even making sure that the baby was delivered at the best hospital. I must say what I loved the most about this episode was how the writer, in the middle of Laila’s excitement, didn’t forget to focus on how hard things were for Rubina emotionally. I loved how it was shown that even though it was Rubina who took this decision of giving away the child, still as a motther she was depressed because she knew it was not going to be easy giving away her own child & then seeing him growing up in front of her eyes while still not being able to shower him with her motherly love. This is a reality, when such a thing happens, everyone talks about how big-hearted the mother is & suddenly the focus is shifted on how the life of the one receiving the child is going to be perfect but in the middle of all this, everyone forgets what truly a mother is going through & how hard it is for her. I wish Zahid wasn’t so hard on Rubina. I was pleasantly surprised that he was being courteous enough to tell Abba Jee about Rubina’s mental state but then despite knowing everything, he threatened Rubina with his second marriage & dissed her again!?!

Oh my, who would’ve thought that Zoya will become Anila Junior? I laughed a lot when I saw Hajra’s reaction when Zoya banged the phone on her face. Since Zoya comes from a huge family where she has experienced family politics, she has obviously taken it with her too but then I also felt that it was her own complex of being older to Aqdas that she misunderstood Faseeha. Let’s see if Aqdas will be able to change Zoya & broaden her vision or not!

I loved all those funny moments like Abba Jee’s statements about Bilqees, Zaitoon’s annoyance at her mention. Abba Jee’s way of snubbing Zahid saying ‘kuch dair mai Maut ke Fariste mandranay lagainge’ & ‘maut ka manzar khol ke beth jata hai’. Also, Zahid’s disapproval of Aqdas’s choice of Thailand as a honeymoon destination. This is what the best part about this drama is, that even though such grave issues are being addressed, the humor quotient & overall essence is never lost in the middle of it. I loved this episode & I felt so relieved seeing Rubina in the precap, I am glad nothing happened to her & I am keen to see if Zahid will ever become courteous towards her or not? Loved everyone’s acting & oh yes, can’t wait to find out Asim Zahid secret too. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Aangan!

‘Baaghi 2’ Team Removes Atif Aslam’s Name From Credits For ‘O Saathi’

Indian ban on Pakistani artists has taken another ugly turn, in this episode of “Screw You Pakistan” the Baaghi 2 Production team has de-credited Atif Aslam of the song HE LITERALLY SANG.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bg1kefVgUAD/?taken-by=divamagazinepakistan

Ever since the ban Atif Aslam refused to promote the song ‘O Saathi’ which makes perfect sense since as an artist it is thoroughly disrespectful to get banned like that and the composer of the song Vipin Patwa supported the singer by saying,

“Aslam was taken on board because his voice matched the character of the song. The decision was taken way before the controversy started. It’s a coincidence that this controversy has started at the time of my music launch. Which artist wouldn’t want to promote his work? If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.”

“If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

Baaghi 2 is slated to release in Pakistan on 30th March 2018.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 21 Review – Loved It!

This was another meaningful episode of Dar Si Jati Hei Sila filled with positivity and depth. The writer has intelligently put forward the most inspiring messages and the dialogues are always the highlight of every episode. The language used is easy, the conversations are concise and every scene says a great deal about the characters and their story. Nadia’s outburst tonight and Bari Apa and Joi’s reactions yet again showed that these two only managed to dominate everyone in the house because their dominance was so readily accepted! Even though Joi did whatever he could to intimidate Nadia but she stood her ground and ultimately got what she wanted. This entire episode focused on one really important aspect – you have to fight for your rights yourself and if you do, you most surely get what you deserve. However, it is easier said than done, something which is clear from Sila and Sadia’s situation in the house. Even if someone like Sikandar had a wife like Nadia, he wouldn’t have treated her, the way he treats Sadia. Kiran Haq is beyond amazing as Nadia, her gestures and dialogue delivery couldn’t have been better. The character has been written brilliantly too. Nadia’s dialogues about Joi’s “hasiyat” were brilliant! She gives Bari Apa and Joi the kind of reality check which no one else can. The director Kashif Nisar also deserves tons of appreciation for giving this script the right treatment.

Nauman Ijaz continues to impress as Joi. Joi’s personality has many different shades but so far the most conspicuous one of them all is that even though he harasses Sila and has been blackmailing Sadia for years but the fact is that he is a coward. Highlighting this side of Joi’s character was crucial to the role and Nauman Ijaz did just that. Everything that Zaini said to Sila tonight was an extension of the same message which was highlighted over and over again in this episode. This is such an important message and could actually benefit a lot of girls out there who think they don’t deserve better and who feel that whatever abuse they are subjected to is their fault. Aamna Malick has been phenomenal as Zaini. Her character is one of the best female characters we have seen in our dramas in recent times and Aamna Malick has done complete justice to it. The best part of this drama is that there are all kinds of characters in the play. This drama is free of stereotypes and all the characters are there for a reason. The positive and negative characters are equally important and the drama wouldn’t have been the same if even one character was missing from it.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 21 Review - Loved It!

Hatim’s scene in this episode again was poignant. His character is so convincing which is why you can’t help feeling for him. Although he was never loved by his own mother and naturally he feels deprived but his approach is so positive and he is so loving. His scenes are heart-wrenching because every scene highlights his weaknesses as well as his strengths. I don’t remember watching a character like this one ever in our dramas, so nuanced and intelligently written.

Raheel and Zaini’s father’s characters show that not all men are narrow-minded and controlling. The fact that these two men did whatever they could to make sure that Zaini gets to do exactly what she wants sends out a great message and gives men like these due credit! Bari Apa’s reaction to Zaini’s future plans was shown accurately too, Sakina Samo’s body language and dialogue delivery has been brilliant! It is interesting how the writer has shown the difference between women who really are strong (Nadia and Zaini) and a woman (Bari Apa) who is only in control because of those people who are so willing to be controlled! Zaini and Nadia know exactly what they deserve and they believe that they are right therefore they always stand their ground, Bari Apa on the other hand is being unfair therefore she doesn’t have a lot to say in her defense when someone confronts her.

Tonight’s episode was brilliant as usual. Everything about this drama has been phenomenal; the subject, the messages, the performances, the direction and the dialogues. The preview of the next episode suggested that Nadia will finally find out about Sadia and Joi’s relationship. Can’t wait to watch what happens next!

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Do share your thoughts about it and especially about Bari Apa’s reaction when Nadia gave her a piece of her mind!! Wasn’t it hilarious and so gratifying!

Visaal Episode 1 Review – A Convincing Start!

Ohkay so, production of Big Bang Entertainment, direction of Ali Hassan & writing of Hashim Nadeem; Visaal is a new prime time drama that has started airing on ARY Digital. I must say, the OST & the promo of this drama definitely gave me Khuda Aur Mohabbat & Dhaani vibes & when I saw that it has been written by Hashim Nadeem, I knew exactly why I felt that way. However, I will say that despite the similarities, I feel may be it is going to be a happier version of Khuda Aur Mohabbat where two people in love will have their happy ending after a lot of hardships, because I could see a lot of tweaking that Hashim Nadeem has done this time around, so let’s see how things roll. First episode of Visaal did set the base for what is yet to come & introduced the characters in detail & though I had a feeling that I knew all these characters from before, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

Akram (Zahid Ahmed) is an imposter who believes in short cuts. He has had a colorful past where he has resorted to a lot such tactics which have landed him in trouble a lot of times but because Akram is like a free bird, he doesn’t take anything seriously as he knows that he can manipulate his way out of every problematic situation. Akram has no family to go to, no parents, no siblings, that is why it feels it is one of the reasons why he has lost direction in life.

Shabbir (Touqeer Nasir) happens to be the only parent of Pari (Hania Amir) & they both share a beautiful relationship with each other. As Shabbir has lost his wife, that is the reason why he feels he needs to be extra attentive & cautious in taking care of Pari because she’s all that he has. It was really nice seeing their friendly relationship where Pari respected her father’s approach of upbringing but also didn’t shy away in sharing whatever was in her heart. Jumman Bua (Ismat Zaidi) happens to be Shabbir’s neighbor & because Shabbir trusts her so much, she comes to keep a check on Pari whenever her father goes for work. Shabbir is the union leader at Railways & earns a decent living for himself & his daughter.

Visaal Episode 1 Review - A Convincing Start!

Molana Ghufran (Firdous Jamal) happens to be a Muazzin & care taker of the local Masjid of that area & upon a little inquiry, Akram gets to know about him. Molana Ghufran has a wife Naikbakht (Tahira Iman) & a daughter Naheed (Saboor Ali), who happens to be Pari’s best friend.

Visaal Episode 1 Review - A Convincing Start!

Akram has definitely come in contact with Molana Ghufran due to an ulterior motive. He is intelligently manipulative & he is also quite smart to know how he can attain his goals. The way Akram caught Molana Ghufran’s attention was quite amusing & interesting because he knew exactly what he had to say in order to make an impression on him. Akram’s interactions with Dilbar (Saife Hassan), the Paan shop owner as well as his new found friend Doodh Patti were nicely done as they were basically used to give Akram’s character a proper introduction to let the viewers know what sort of a person he is.

Akram couldn’t take the thought of Pari out of his mind & that is why he decided to pay a visit to Molana Ghufran’s house once again. The way Akram found a way in Ghufran’s place went to show how simple & optimistic Ghufran was because of which he easily got tricked into believing that Akram was everything that he said he was & ended up giving him an access to his house.

Overall, this episode was quite intereresting & the drama has had a great start. All the actors seemed to be in their element & the direction was spot on too. Zahid Ahmed seemed to overplay Akram a bit but I feel it was needed especially in the introductory episodes to make a longlasting impression about his character. Hania Aamir was perfect as Pari & every other actor did a perfect job too. I am definitely looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts about the very first episode of Visaal.

Tabeer Episode 6 Review – A Decent Watch!

Ohkay so, this episode of Tabeer took the story forward a great deal. Even though you can totally foresee the turn of events but still, the way this story has been dramatized makes you tune to it. In a nutshell, Tabeer is a story of two people who will become a ray of hope for each other in their darkest of times!

Ajju stole the cheque which guarateed a roof over Daadi & Tabeer’s head & because he couldn’t get it cashed, he was irresponsible enough to tear it into pieces. All this while I kept on hoping that after a failed attempt Ajju might go back & put the cheque back in Tabeer’s closet but he didn’t.

Daadi keeps on getting reminders about how nice & helpful Yasir was even to strangers & the way she returned from the grocery store crying while remembering Yasir was very emotional. Well, Tabeer & Daadi were thrown out of their house because they couldn’t give the remainder amount to the owners & it was amusing to see Ajju being tagged along with them too, like seriously he is responsible for everything & there he was playing the victim.

Fawad & his mother were struggling to take care of the newborn & they got a clear answer from the doctor that the baby needed natural nursing. Even though Fawad’s mother tried, she couldn’t really convince anyone to help her & be committed to such a big responsibility.

Well, Tabeer finally contacted Fawad because she knew that he was the only one who could help her in this hour of need. It was overall interesting to see how both Fawad & Tabeer were brought together by the destiny to help each other out. It looks like Fawad’s mother will try to put a price tag on the favor she will be needing from Tabeer in taking care of the newborn & nursing him.

This episode of Tabeer was decent. Though you can predict what the story is all about, it still doesn’t take away from the fact that it is a decent drama to tune to. The acting & the direction has been excellent too. Please share your thoughts.

Khudgarz Episode 23 Review – Emotional!

This episode focused on Hassan’s redemption & even though the story has moved forward & is now showing a different perspective & even though everything was shown convincingly, I just felt this void while watching this episode because Aairah was not there.

Hassan came back & Munawwar got to share what he wanted to. Even though Munawwar is guilt stricken, it was unfair that he was now holding Hassan responsible for everything while completely forgetting that he is equally responsible for whatever transpired as well. Munawwar can not not hold himself responsible for whatever happened because firstly, he facilitated Hassan & gave him the edge to do whatever he wanted to & secondly, he chose to overlook Junaid’s niceness & deliberately misunderstood him only to prove his love to Hassan. Munawwar himself was never a role model for Hassan so how can he now blame him for everything!

Hassan realized the grave mistakes that he has committed & he just didn’t know what he could do to make amends. Hassan started off by making Dua’s future secure & then he couldn’t resist getting attached to her because he felt this way, he will be able to put his apology across to Junaid & Aairah. I liked how throughout this episode, this fact kept on surfacing again & again that once the time is lost, no matter how hard you try, you are never at ease as you just don’t know whether whatever you are doing is enough or not & if you will be forgiven or not. Hassan & Munawwar’s discussion about transferring money to Dua’s account seemed just so meaningless because no amount, absolutely nothing could compensate the loss of her parents & even they knew that all this was just superficial as what truly matters will never be hers & they won’t be able to provide it to her.

Abeer finally came & she took Dua with her but even Salma had a change of heart but Abeer stood her ground. It was sad to see Dua being parted from Hassan as he truly grew closer to her & genuinely treated her as his own flesh & blood. The scene where they showed Hassan taking care of Dua was so emotional & sweet. I also liked that Omar’s character was still present & Hassan went back to him to have a heart to heart.

Overall, it was another convincing episode of Khudgarz but I just felt this emptiness because two main characters were gone. I must say, strong direction & phenomenal acting is still keeping this drama worth tuning to because usually when the main characters are gone, viewers don’t really get anything to tune to it. Sami Khan has outdone himself once again & it is so good to see him giving one phenomenal performance after another. Please share your thoughts.

Death Toll In Our Dramas

There are many techniques which the writers use to take the plot forward and to make the viewers more interested in the story. Back in the day, our writers used to rely on heart attacks or accidents to change the course of events in the drama but it seems they are so over those tactics that they now believe in wiping the character off the drama’s page to add substance in their story. The technique that is quite popular with our drama writers these days is killing the main character or any character which the viewers love more than others, which might take the story forward but it leaves the viewers depressed. Such a death can be shocking when the viewers didn’t see it coming and many times it does take the plot forward in a good direction.

Sometimes the drama ends with the death of such a character, while some of these endings become truly unforgettable others might leave the viewers feeling frustrated because the given character could have been given a better ending. There was a time when Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar was known for such endings and most often his endings made sense and had an impact on the viewers but it looks like everyone has picked on that detail and is now writing the same fate for their characters. Lately, some of the deaths in our dramas made absolutely no sense and made the viewers wonder why the writers chose to kill these characters.

The way Ayra’s character in drama serial Khudgarz was recently killed was a classic example of a bad ending to a character which had a great deal to offer. While Junaid’s death could have helped in many ways in driving the plot forward in an altogether different direction, Ayra’s death served no purpose at all. It was the kind of ending which makes you wonder if Aamina Sheikh had other commitments or the writer ran out of ideas to get the attention of the viewers. This death was especially upsetting because overall Khudgarz had a solid plot which is why the viewers had huge expectations from it. With Ayra alive, Hassan’s character could have had the opportunity to redeem itself and the viewers would have liked watching how these two people with such a bitter history eventually came closer to each other. Hassan might still raise Ayra and Junaid’s child but the fact remains that Ayra’s death was not needed, at least not at this time. Killing two main characters back to back seems like a desperate attempt to get the attention of the viewers but it completely ruined the overall feel of the play which promised a positive growth in characters.

Death Toll In Our Dramas

In drama serial Qurban, the entire time it was suggested that it was Heer who had to sacrifice everything to save the honor and pride of her family but just when the drama was nearing its end, Jamal, the main lead was killed. It became quite evident that since the writer couldn’t undo the Nikkah on Nikkah scenario, he decided to kill Jamal’s character to save Heer from going back to him, which was the ending that most of the viewers would have preferred because it was the drama that started of using Heer and Jamal’s love story as the main theme. To see a 2nd lead Shahmeer take Heer in the end and Heer happily settling for Shahmeer while forgetting the love of her life defied the purpose of the drama which was supposed to be a love story. It imparted a message that you can get nikkaofied to the love of your life by going against your parents’ wishes and if that guy dies, you can quickly forget his love and stay married to the guy your parents chose for you.

Death Toll In Our Dramas

Hamza’s character was the best part about Aisi Hai Tanhai, he depicted what a true love is and how far someone can go in order to punish himself for the sake of the one he truly loved but his character was killed by the writer just like that and made the ending unsatisfactory. When Pakeeza was coming out of the most tragic phase and when Hamza could walk with her for the rest of her life, the writer chose to kill him making us feel that Hamza was basically used as a scapegoat to take the blame for a mistake that Pakeeza in her senses committed. In the end, Pakeeza was shown to be running a self defence academy for girls, which made us wonder how nice it would’ve been if Hamza would’ve been there with her as well.

Pukaar is another drama which started off as a love story gone wrong where Fahad Sultan was killed only because his father wanted him to contest in the elections. Ever since, the drama has taken a depressing turn and it is all about Samra’s ordeals after her husband’s death.

Death Toll In Our Dramas

Another one of Hum Tv’s drama written by actor Imran Ashraf is Tabeer where Tabeer’s husband Yasir and Fawad’s wife Zarnish have passed away. This drama has again started off on such a depressing note that you just don’t feel the urge to tune to it to see how the living ones are coping with the deaths of their spouses.

Most of these dramas with a high death toll aired on ARY Digital which makes us wonder if the channel authorities feel that killing the characters will get them more ratings/publicity. We are all for tragic plot twists and sad endings but it should be done logically. When the writers kill characters which viewers like in this manner, the viewers feel cheated therefore all the writers out there who think the only way to make a character unforgettable is by killing it should know that they are seriously mistaken.

How many of you feel this way? Do share your thoughts about it.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 5 Review-Misunderstandings!

0

Misunderstandings have started developing and this episode was filled with them. Mirha’s chachi is striving hard to make things unbearable for her. She has played the character of a typical relative we can always see around us. As she knows Mirha is an orphan and no one will stand for her, she is using every trick in her pocket to make her life miserable. The Rishta scene showed how much she discriminates between Mirha and her own daughter. Her only motive right now is to get rid of Mirha so her only son would not marry her. Wahaj though tries to stan up for Mirha but he is not really capable of handling the situation. Consequently, chachi will try to create a gap between Mirha and Wahaj by making Mirha look like some kind of gold digger who is hawaon main.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 5 Review-Misunderstandings!

Rushna loves Mirha and is trying to make things better for her. But she is materialistic too and that is where things will go sour. The car number plate misunderstanding will happen in the next episode and she will mistake Mehrab for Arham. Mehrab who is shown to be the better-looking sibling will be an agreeable standard for Rushna. Though it is understandable that Arham was trying to impress Rushna with a huge car and all but he could still have sent her a photo after all the bills he has paid to impress her already but then we know the story wouldn’t move forward.

Mehrab is facing the same problem Rushna will face in the next episode. He was falling for Mirha but then the hospital encounter and the shopping centre encounter is making him think that Mirha is Meena, the girl his brother is obsessing over. The four leads will entangle in these misunderstandings and if that was not enough, the boys’ phupho is also not very approving of Arham’s choice.

Let’s see how things get better for Mirha and how Rushna will settle for the (apparently) less handsome brother!

Laal Ishq Episode 24 Review – Deadly

This was such a happening episode that it has to reviewed alone. From such a beautiful start to such a tragic ending, every scene was shot to perfection.. And finally love has claimed another life, this time a totally innocent one. How beautiful was Mahi as a bride and how happy to be free of that revenge laden, suffocating environment and how grateful at such acts of kindness by a total stranger whom she had a few days’ engagement with.

And then sadly her ancestory and their grudges caught up with her, but this time Mehrunnisa is not alone to be blamed. Everyone knew she is crazy and blood thirsty, and yet Punar threatened Jajji to send her back, and Jajji emotionally blackmailed Farhad and Farhad made her agree to go there, and then stupidly listened to her and let her go all by herself. All of these people loved Mahi, and all of them inadvertently pushed her to her tragic end. Dada ji knew that she was going to be killed by Mehrunnisa but he did nothing to stop her. It’s true that she has made a mistake in going at night, cheating to everybody and lying to her mother, but she had a right to her life, and they had forced her to the extent that this was her only option.

What disturbed me the most was perhaps Punaar’s dual standards. He felt he was justified to fall in love and even do court marriage with Rameen, but when it came to Mahi and Farhad,  he becomes so violent and aggressive at their court marriage. Hypocrisy at it’s peak. Taking back all the good words I had ever said about him. He is Mehrunnisa’s son, through and through. He thinks only his and his lover’s love have value, rest everyone else’s love can be switched on and off according to his suitability. This is what his mother does and this is what he is doing. I’m jut too sad that he played such a vital part in Mahi’s demise. The sister who postponed her love marriage so she could protect her brother’s life, who cried each time he got even slightly wounded, who was his biggest confidante and he will probably just bury her in the dark of the night in the next episode.

As always, it was a brilliantly shot episode with emotions raging high and everyone doing full justice to their characters, in every single way. From Zahid’s generosity to Mahi’s innocent happiness to Farhad’s sadness at having to drop her back, to Jajji’s fear of what might become of the situation, to Bali’s helplessness, to Mehrunnisa’s violence, to dada jee’s resignation of what is about to happen, it was an engrossing and thoroughly engaging episode. Not an easily digestible one, you just keep on thinking and thinking about what just happened.

There is an odd chance that Mehrunnisa did not kill Mahi and Farhad was just having a nightmare, but in all likelihood, it seems as if Mehrunnisa has truly finished the beautiful, happy and loving Mahi and all the gorgeousness that she carried in her heart…

Khamoshi Episode 25 Review-Blah!

0

Okay so let’s start is with something this episode deserves for its description. BLAH! There was so much screeching involve in this episode, my ears are still sensitive and near the edge of bleeding. We have seen girls fighting like mean cats over heroes in our dramas. There has been sister rivalry which we saw in Khamoshi too. Then we have seen the same stuff happening to a group of friends and yes, of course, the cousins. But Khamoshi now has a mother who screeches and fights over the boy she wanted to have for her daughter. The whole episode revolved around Nasreen’s antics and it was a misery to witness it.

The way Bee Jaan’s track has gone sour is a headache. She has become the orphaned child whom all the relatives mistreat. She was crying for FOOD! That scene was downright despicable. She was shown in the beginning as a woman with a lot of authority and composure. She was not getting any family time even before Arsala came into the picture but she was fine with it. But now she just keeps shouting for either the staff or Nasreen and Zubiya. Nasreen is making her life miserable and on the other hand, she is making sure that Zubiya becomes a complete obsessive psychopath. Zubiya’s Main Khobsuart Nahin Hoon is also very annoying because the track has not been covered at all in the drama that why she is having complexes and the girl they have cast is quite well made up and pretty which is not serving their story well.

Khamoshi Episode 25 Review-Blah!

Arsala’s blame games towards Shahram proved that at some level she has the Shehnazness and Naimaness in her. The way she blamed ke mere adhay maslay unki wajah se hain was downright absurd. Shahram has turned into a total damsel in distress who just does not know how to cope with any situation and consequently, everyone is insulting him which honestly speaking he deserves.

Guddu’s familiarity with Shahram was also sudden and seems like Sabir will be the person who will make Arsala agree to marry Shahram after all.

One thing I want to commend is the makers’ talent for making everyone a mazloom bahu regardless of their genders!

Noor ul Ain Episode 7 Review – Saathiya Remake!

Ohkay so, I am not sure what made the writer think that the viewers would choose to invest 20+ weeks in a drama when they’d be having an option of watching the same story in a span of a 2 & a half hours, yes I am talking about Saathiya. It is unfortunate that such a dream team came together to give the viewers a good drama but the writer couldn’t create or let’s say be original enough to write something magical which could blow the viewers away!

At least in Saathiya, Suhani’s character got away for being the way she was because in a film, no one cares for the depth but when you are watching a weekly drama, you really want the characters to have a personality. At first I thought that Khizar didn’t have any personality, he was just a rich kid with no direction in life, trying to break free from his mother’s golden cage but as the episodes passed, despite a strong first impression, Noor’s character has fallen flat on its face. Honestly speaking, Noor is not only plain & flat she is downright annoying because of her cluelessness. I remember when the drama began, Noor actually had a personality & we all could see why the drama was based on her character but as the episodes have passed, she has zero personality. I am sure if the stylists had tied 2 high ponytails for Noor, made her wear a frock, had given a lollipop in 1 hand & a teddy bear in another, no one would’ve bat an eyelid because that entire image would’ve gone perfectly with the clueless character that is sporting – a girl who has absolutely no idea what is happening in her life & most importantly why!

To be honest, when this episode began, I decided to catch up with my sisters & best friend on Whatsapp because at the back of my mind, I knew where the story was headed as I have seen Saathiya plenty of times to remember the story. To be honest, I was blown away by writer’s originality when he threw in that scenario where Sofie’s Devar showed his interest in getting married to Noor. How original yaar because Saathiya mai to aisa hua nahi tha!

Well, to be honest, after watching this episode, I could totally see why Ghazala was added in this story as a negative character. Usually in our dramas it is really hard for the writers to make the female leads look negative, therefore they add such characters who can take the blame & justify the wrongdoings of the heroines & this is exactly what the role of Ghazala is but you know what? I don’t find her negative at all, despite such a hard try from the writer, I will not hold her responsible for Noor’s meesna-pan. Noor is responsible for every single decision that she is taking. At least in Saathiya, Suhani owned her decision of going against her parents & getting married to Aadi but here, Noor is shown like that clueless toddler standing in the confectionary aisle unable to make up her mind as to which toffee she should pick but then again, I totally see Noor as the culprit & not Ghazala. Ghazala is just helping her but in reality, this is what Noor herself wants. Noor has decided to get married to Khizar by ignoring her parents’ wishes but the writer just wants Ghazala to take the blame for her. Ghazala might be persuading Noor but this is what she wants too. I found Noor annoying again that she has closed all the doors on her when it comes to communicating with her parents. Ever since Khizar’s mom visited her place, she has cooked khichri with Ghazala but has not even bothered talking to her parents about how she feels. Whatever she is doing especially with her parents is wrong because yes, they trusted her & there she is, shattering it just like that, why? Because she is clueless. It was funny how the writer tried to make her look all naik parveen where she was like ‘mera dil nahi maan raha, Ammi Abbu mere pe trust karte hain’ haan to dheet boring larki, ghar jao aur so jao, Nikkah na karo!

Anyways, I am sure those who will see this drama for what it is won’t have a hard time watching it, but while watching this episode especially, I couldn’t help comparing it to Saathiya, oh I think comparing is not the right word here, I was just reminded of the original story while watching this copy. Anyways, I will try that I don’t see Saathiya in Noor ul Ain next week but I am sure it won’t be easy. To be honest, I am not a fan of Noor’s character at this stage of the drama, hope that might change in the future when she will take charge of her life after getting married to a directionless, lost person like Khizar but right now, sorry not sorry, I ain’t a fan. Please share your thoughts!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Shayyad Last Episode Review – Beautiful!

I have to admit that sitting through this episode was tough because I wanted to skip everything else and move to the part where Hani and Saad were finally together! This last episode of Shayyad was emotional just like this drama as a whole and it was good to see Sadia Khan sporting a look which went well with Hani’s situation and her acting too was right on point tonight. In this episode however, the background score at times was so loud that the dialogues were barely audible. Also, the last scene of this episode would have been even better if Saad thanked Tania before she left. The scene covering how Saad finally met Hani and the meeting itself was covered perfectly. The way Tania stood by Saad all these years was truly endearing and the best part of this last episode.

A love story which was poignant, inspiring and meaningful, Shayyad was one of those very few dramas in recent times which didn’t drag at all. Although few of the episodes didn’t work for me because of the choppy editing but overall I highly recommend this drama to all those viewers out there who would want to watch a different love story which has a filmy feel but at the same time is really convincing.

This wasn’t the first time that Faiza Iftikhar gave her viewers an unforgettable male protagonist. Saad wasn’t perfect but he was passionate about the woman he loved and he had quite a few personality traits which made his character appealing. In fact his flaws made him a compelling protagonist who always kept you guessing.  Saad’s role was played brilliantly by Uzair Jaswal. The character growth was also covered convincingly and this aspect of the story was especially important since the story started from the time when Saad was only a teenager. Although the odds were always against Saad but he was never shown as someone who was a victim of circumstances. Saad’s character and Uzair Jaswal’s solid performance throughout was the highlight of this drama.

Shayyad Last Episode Review - Beautiful!

Hani’s character itself didn’t have the same appeal as Saad’s character but it was Hani who decided which turn Saad’s track will take by rejecting his love for her and ultimately by getting married. Saad was however never turned into a bechara, the viewers weren’t “forced” to feel for him but it was something which came naturally. The on-screen chemistry between Sadia Khan and Uzair Jaswal along with the beautiful manner in which their track was penned down made this love story relatable. This drama also had some of the most beautiful dialogues to its credit.

The background score and the beautiful poetry was used effectively in most of the episodes and the director Syed Ali Raza (Usama) gave this drama the right treatment. Except for a few episodes, the flashback scenes, especially the ones covering Saad and Hani’s childhood were translated on screen superbly. The supporting characters and their tracks were just as interesting as that of the leading characters. Tania’s progressive character was like a breath of fresh air and even Mahpara’s track held my interest completely in the last few weeks. Nauman Ijaz was phenomenal as Salar and even though he didn’t get a lot of screen time but every scene covering Salar’s track was written and executed faultlessly. Mahpara’s happy ending and Salar and Hani’s love story showed that you can fall in love at any age and if you truly love someone then age most certainly is only just a number!!

Shayyad is one of the very few plays which ended at the right time which is why it is going to be missed and remembered for all the right reasons. The ending couldn’t have been more gratifying but the preview of this last episode gave this ending away which wasn’t fair with the viewers. Unlike many other writers, Faiza Iftikhar didn’t wait until the last episode to wrap up all the tracks but only left the main track to be wrapped up in the last episode which is always a great idea.

I would like to thank all those talented and creative individuals who worked hard to make this drama a success. A special thanks to all those wonderful viewers who read the reviews every week and gave their feedback. It wouldn’t have been the same without you guys. Shayyad will be missed but thankfully we have Woh Mera Dil Tha to look forward to every Saturday now!

Do share your thoughts about this last episode, I would love to hear from you.
