Kuch Na Kaho Episodes 1-4 Review – A Decent Watch So far!

0

Directed by Ilyas Kashmiri and written by Rahat Jabeen, Kuch Na Kaho airs on Monday and Tuesday on Hum TV. The cast comprises names such as Huma Nawab, Emmad Irfani, Naveen Waqar and Mirza Zain Baig and while I have nothing personally against these actors and actresses their acting has failed to impress me so I have no idea why I decided to give this drama a go anyway. What has surprised me is that these very actors have given decent and convincing performances in a drama which may not be unique as far as the storyline goes, especially with the promos and OST giving pretty much of the story away but nevertheless, I found myself enjoying the first four episodes.

Kuch Na Kaho introduces quite a few characters within the very first episode. Huma Nawab is the widowed mother of two, Aina (Naveen Waqar) and Sajal (Shazia Naz). After her sister’s death, she also raises her two sons Mohsin (Emaad Irfani) and Faraz (Mirza Zain Baig). Mohsin is married to Nadia (Zainab Jameel) and has a daughter. While we are still getting to know everyone here, I may as well add that Sajal and Faraz are engaged to be married and Mohsin and Faraz have a sister who has not been introduced yet but is married to Nadia’s brother. Phew!

pic1

Mohsin is shown to be a conservative man who although is respectful of his aunt, loses his temper easily. He is not pleased about his girl cousins venturing out of the house for education or work. Sajal is the milder natured sister however Aina often speaks out against Mohsin and his restrictive ways. Aina is interested in Imran (Asad Zaman Khan) who belongs to a richer and influential family and he wants to marry Aina. Step in the evil cousin. Why is there always a desperate, stalkerish, on the verge of mentally unstable woman who will stop at nothing and then less to get married to the man who very clearly loves another. We have one here too in the form of Imran’s cousin Ainnie (Hira Adnan).

Mohsin sees Aina when she is out with Imran and drags her home and although reluctant, eventually agrees to meet Imran’s family. Abid Ali plays the role of Imran’s father and wants Imran to marry Annie so that all the business and property etc may remain within the family. The whole engagement scene was very weirdly played out but I suppose they got their point across to Aina’s family and Imran is now engaged to his cousin. Realizing he has been made a fool of, he tries to reach out to Aina and her family but is sent away.

The promos of this drama seemed strange with Naveen looking quite odd playing hide and seek and making faces underneath that fringe. I wondered if this was a drama tinged with mystery but the drama’s initial few episodes gave a different picture. The other two dramas penned by this writer that I know of are Karb and Mere Humnawa and both were not very interesting but I am unsure whether it is because of the acting and direction rather than the story itself. HUM TV serials are generally very pleasing to the eye aesthetically and this drama too has good production values. So far the pace of the story has been decent and since it airs twice a week, I hope it continues to be fast paced.

pic2

So far Naveen’s character is that of a bubbly, headstrong girl and she seems to portray that well on screen. Emmad Irfaani’s acting is often found to be lacking – I run for cover here for I know there are many of us who find him extremely pleasing to the eye and while I may not argue with that, his dialogue delivery and expressions often miss the mark. He is however pretty convincing as Mohsin except in his immense anger scenes when he screams at the top of his lungs, rolling his eyes and I found myself holding my breath for he looks like a wound up toy gone berserk and ready to explode! We get he has a temper, he needs to tone down the acting though, LOL. I was fed up of Huma Nawab playing Inspector Gadget and negative roles in every other drama so I was pleasantly surprised to see her play a different character here. Ever since she has made her comeback she seems to be uncomfortable with the characters she plays but if I am not being too critical I think she has done alright so far. Hira Adnan is a new face and I felt her to be the weak link for her dialogue delivery fell flat.

It appears Imran will try his best to convince Aina and her family that he loves her. His father seems confident he will be able to keep Imran away from Aina and marry Ainnie, but will he? I find myself looking forward to the next episode and that is reason enough for me to tag this drama as worth watching – for now. What did you all think of Kuch Na Kaho? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Bin Roye Episode 7 Review – Life Goes On!

I started watching Bin Roye with a very positive frame of mind and even though the first episode was slightly unconventional because of the song sequences which were added from the film I was more than welcoming of this new era of dramas because these songs were used effectively and although the story was quite simple but Saba’s track in particular kept me interested. After watching this episode however I am more disappointed than ever mainly because of this hodgepodge of film and drama in which some scenes are dubbed and other are not and most importantly although the drama is not fast-paced yet there are so many times when I feel like some of the developments are rushed. Another reason for this is that a lot of scenes are isolated events and although the characteristics of the character have been well-defined but the relationship between the character leaves a lot to be desired. Bin Roye does not only have a weak narrative but the addition of long scenes which have very little impact on the viewers or the story further disconnect you from whatever is happening in the drama. There are some dramas that keep you glued to your television screens and there are others which give you very little reason to pay attention and unfortunately Bin Roye is turning out to be one of those dramas. With every passing episode instead of getting closer to the characters, I find myself finding it difficult to keep my interest alive.

The biggest shock in tonight’s episode was the news of Sonia’s pregnancy. There was absolutely no need to add such a grim twist to the story just to get Safeer and Sonia married. Irtiza and Saman decided to move to the US; Saman got so emotional in the previous episode because she was getting married but there wasn’t a single scene in which she said goodbye to Saba in this episode. Same was the case with Saba and Irtiza too. This was the perfect opportunity to add a few emotional and powerful conversations but it is just plain sad that the writer so far has not made the most of such opportunities. Once again the viewers were shown how Saba felt about this entire situation through a song sequence which in my opinion was the easy way out – adding the song from the film – instead of writing situations and conversations which would have conveyed Saba’s feelings better. When the song ended, everyone had moved on with life, Irtiza and Saman were in the US and Saba resumed her studies! The first scene covering Irtiza and Saman’s life in the US was dubbed and definitely did not fit in. It is becoming more apparent now which scenes have been taken from the film and which one’s were shot for the drama because of the incoherence and the way they have been shot. Although in the beginning I had no issues with the scenes which were taken from the film but gradually, mainly because of the lack of detail, I think that making a film and a drama together was a really bad idea! Irtiza’s feelings regarding change in Saba’s behavior were conveyed through two scenes, which did not seem enough considering these two people were so close to one another for so many years.

I hate to sound like a broken record but the family life in Saba’s house has also not been translated on screen accurately. Saba has never been showing sitting with her parents and talking to them, which does seem really odd and makes one wonder what kind of a relationship these people have with one another. They live in the same house but never interact!

fotorcreated

The timeline in this drama is seriously confusing, when Saba and Saman talked, Saman mentioned how badly she wanted to visit, which suggested that a lot of time had passed since she came to the US but later on the conversation between Safeer and Sonia suggested something completely different. Saba’s reaction to the “good news” was even more confusing then the timeline! Irtiza and Saman were more believable as a couple in tonight’s episode but unfortunately most of us who have watched Alvida know exactly what is going to happen next!

The preview of the next episode showed that Saba will go to meet Saman and Irtiza, I am waiting to see how that development is covered since she could not stand being around them and was hoping they would go away not very long ago! I am wondering if Adnan Malik has a real role to play in the story or is it going to be another guest appearance.

Noor e Zindagi – An Overview

0

Produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, directed by Siraj ul Haq and written by Sarwat Nazir, Noor e Zindagi airs on Geo on Fridays at 8pm PST. The writer Sarwat Nazir’s name is what drew me to this serial for at that time Besharam was on air and I had only just finished watching Socha Na Tha on ARY Zindagi which is penned by the same writer. Although Socha Na Tha dragged a bit, yet it was a decent watch so I felt Noor e Zindagi may be interesting too.

Noor e Zindagi is the story of two families, paths of which eventually cross when a marriage takes place. Noor Jahan (Ayesha Khan) is an educated woman who lives with her father (Shakeel) and younger sister Zeb. Noor is educated and respects her father and his wishes but is not afraid to stand up and speak for what she believes is right for herself and her family. She agrees to a match made by her father but breaks off the engagement when the family turns out to be greedy by exerting pressure on her father to meet their increasing and unreasonable demands with regards to jahez. In the wake of this broken engagement, her older sister is very worried and agrees to meet Saleem and his family through a rishtay walay aunty. The proposal had earlier been sent for her sister in law which they rejected partly because Saleem is uneducated and partly because her sister in law is interested in someone else.

Saleem (Jibran Syed) lives with his mother (Sajida Syed), a younger brother Waseem (Noman Habib) and younger sister Bano. He is uneducated, education being a luxury he could not afford when his father passed away when Saleem was young and he had to step up and start working at his father’s shop to support the rest of the family. He initially does not have a problem with Waseem’s education but egged on by his useless friends (Salim Mairaj) he puts a stop to his education too. Saleem has grown used to being the one in control and we see his father used to be an angry man too who did not hold any value for his wife’s opinion. Even his mother has no say once Saleem has decided upon something, not that she tries for she has grown used to cowering and accepting Saleem’s decisions as the final say.

The first few episodes, while introduced the characters, but were actually just scenes flitting between Saleem’s angry outbursts, his mothers’ endless tears, Noor’s holier than thou, perfectly composed demeanour right upto her perfectly curled hair and the ever pressing issue that supersedes all in our dramas – shaadi. Once Noor and Saleem get married, their families – and I – breathed a sigh of relief for that is when the drama began to get interesting. For those of you who have not watched this drama, I would suggest watching it from the 9th episode onwards for that is when the story kicks in.

I liked how Saleem was floored by his wife’s beauty and how he would have twinges of guilt pricking him each time he is short with her. His friend however is forever dispatching advice making sure his wife does not take ‘advantage’ of him and make him feel she is superior as she is more educated. We normally see a scheming mother in law or bhabhi/nand, but here it is the friend who is the meddling factor and leads Saleem astray. Noor believes Saleem is a good man but easily influenced by his friends but all this goes a step too far when Saleem begins suspecting there is something between Waseem and Noor.

Noor is shown to be educated, patient, responsible, understanding (you get the picture) yet she is strong and believes in standing up when pushed too far and leaves home when Saleem goes accuses her. However, I feel I have a hidden Saleem of sorts in me too for even I felt a bit prickly at times when she would forever be preaching although Saleem put it in a more apt and delightful way – ‘asaan ilfaaz mein baat kiya karo’ and ‘zaida ustaani na bano’, LOL! Let me clarify here that I only found those statements funny when he said them not in a taunting way but when he was actually perplexed by Noor’s words and those scenes were funny. However, his inferiority complex and thoughts planted by his friend make him lash out and say unforgivable things to Noor one too many times, I thought.

Things are far from smooth between these two but the drama is interesting as how Noor tries to make small changes in the household without trying to rock the whole boat and is not the whimpering wife we are all too used to seeing. Ayesha Khan used to be one of my favorite actresses but watching her in Shert, Tumharay Siwa and Mann Mayal, dramas which I abandoned halfway and cringed at her acting and characters, I was wary of this one. It took me a while to warm up to her character, rather seeing past Ayesha Khan to Noor. Jibran Syed as Saleem is perfect I have to say. The yelling was a bit overwhelming at first but the snide comments and inferiority complex are all portrayed so well by him. I am not sure anyone else would have made Saleem so convincing as Jibran Syed has been able to. The supporting actors and actresses such as Zeb, Waseem, Saleem’s mother and Noor’s older sister and brother in law have all chipped in to do their parts well too which I have begun to feel makes a huge difference in how I end up feeling about the play. I wince each time Salim Mairaj appears on the screen but that is because his character is nothing but trouble!

Noor’s personality and level headedness do not seem to be helping her much so I am not sure which way this drama is headed just yet. I do think if less episodes had been wasted before the marriage took place, the drama would have been more interesting for I am sure quite a few of us gave up on it after the first few episodes. How many of you have been following this drama – would love to hear your thoughts.

Faltu Larki Episodes 1 & 2 Review – Powerful And Witty Dialogues

This is perhaps the most well written drama that I’ve ever watched. It’s chalk full of memorable dialogues that leave you shaking your head and chuckling. This is a female centric drama that revolves around the plight of the women from two and a half different families, who are related by sometimes fraught and reluctant ties. There’s Raska, the matriarch of her family, whose husband, Anwar, married another woman Paro and according to Raska, “jise bathiji kaha karte te, usi ke saath bhurapa kharab kar liya Anwaar sahab ne.” She is a strong, bitter woman, who’s not afraid to speak her mind, whether her opinion is warranted or not. Raska is played by the veteran actor Hina Dilpazeer, who packs quite a punch as an acerbic woman jilted by her husband. She has three children, two girls, Fazia and Irham, and a son, who’s only known by his nickname, Bhaijaan because of his serious demeanor. The interesting thing about Bhaijaan is that not only do his sisters call him that, but also his parents. He’s the oldest of the siblings and unmarried. Fazia is the middle child, who’s bitter over her younger sister’s marriage because she was passed over for her sister. Irham, the baby of the family, is as outspoken as her mother, but not as bitter. She represents a typical millennial Karachiate to a t; she’s mainly interested in Indian dramas and social media. Despite her outspoken and independent nature, she’s still quite ecstatic about her marriage to Taabish, a boy that her father picked out for her.

fl

Then there is the half family of Paro and her daughter Pashi. Paro is the second wife of Anwar sahab and she’s a smart and calculating woman who knows how to manipulate her husband. She was the daughter of Anwar sahab’s friend, who he married after her father’s death. Paro’s played by Samiya Mumtaz and she’s phenomenal in the role. It’s a joy to see her onscreen again so soon in such a different avatar from Udaari. The young actress playing Pashi is also quite talented. Pashi is mainly interested in facebook, but she only posts “achi baatein” and plays Candy Crush, she reassures her suspicious mother. Anwar sahab is the head of the family; he owns a store near their house and looks after not only his wives and children, but also his younger brother Siraj’s family.

Siraj is a kindhearted and optimistic man who’s touched by the plight of his distant relative. Almaas is the wife of Siraj, and while she’s not as outspoken as her bhabhi Raska, she still makes her displeasure known when her husband brings home an orphaned relative, Jahan Ara, from India. Almaas and Siraj have one son, Sherry, who’s only interested in flirting with a stone-faced Jahan Ara and having fun with his cousin Irham. Jahan Ara is another interesting character. She’s from Bhopal in India and she comes to Karachi with her Mamu Siraj after her mother and father pass away. She is unlike Irham and Sherry because she prefers to stay quiet and blend into the background. She’s faced a lot of hardships and her eyes speak of the horror that she’s witnessed, whereas Sherry and Irham have always lived carefree lives, shielded by their parents.

The writer of this drama, Fasih Bari Khan, has done immense justice to the story. He has speckled in dialogues that not only reflect the hypocrisy of the characters, but also the larger hypocrisy of society. For example, Raska on one hand condemns Pakistani dramas for showing the trend of multiple wives, but is an avid fan of Indian dramas, such as Rakshas Nandita, which show the titular character scheming to trap her dead husband’s friend. Fasih Bari Khan is also the acclaimed writer of the comedy drama Quddusi Sahab Ki Bewa, which became a hit and was on air for 155 episodes. He is a master at writing dialogues that leave you laughing out loud not only at the outrageous dialogues, but also the way they’re presented. Some of my favorite dialogues so far have been gems like these: “Londe aaj ke Umrao Jaan ho gaye,” “Ussne unka passport jala diya,” “aap thanda piyingi ke garam? Ice cream hai to vo leao.”

I especially am interested to see how Jahan Ara’s story plays out. She’s grateful to her uncle for bringing her to Pakistan, but she knows that she’s not wanted by her aunt. She’s lived a hard life in Bhopal, which she vocalizes when Sherry tries to not so subtly ask her if she had a boyfriend, “Jahaan humte, wahaan boyfriend se bara masla roti ka tha.” She rebuffs the advances of Sherry because she’s far more mature than he is. Bhaijaan is also another character that I want to know more about. He seems to be a serious, no nonsense man that stands neutral in the craziness of his family.

fl2

Overall, I think this is my favorite drama since Udaari and I’m quite excited to see how this unfolds. I’m curious to see who the title of this play refers to. Is the faltu larki Irham, who’s only interested in vapid conversation? Or is the faltu larki Jahan Ara, who has to depend on the mercy of her relatives in Pakistan because she has no one else. I would highly recommend this drama to anyone not already watching this; it airs on A Plus on Thursdays at 8:00.

Stray dialogues that stayed with me:

“Dance to tumhare culture mein hai.” – Irham

“Iss umar mein jail mein chaki piesinge aap?” – Almaas

“Yeh larkiyon walon ka ghar hai, khanum ka adda thori hai.” – Raska

“Yeh jo hamari larki hai na, ye hamare upar boj nahi hai.” – Raska

And my favorite dialogue of all, life advice from Bhaijaan “Jabi bijli ke kaam kiya karein, toh slippers pehen liya karein.”

Best On-Screen Pakistani Couples Of Recently Aired Dramas

An on-screen couple’s chemistry and their characters add something extra special to a drama. If the viewers are able to relate to the couple which plays the lead in a drama then that drama gets the uplift it needs to stand out. This year like all the other years Pakistani viewers got to see a few on-screen couples who won the hearts of many drama buffs. Their on-screen chemistry and their tracks were appealing.

Iranian-Turkish Movies To B e Showcased In Pakistani Cinemas

0

Pakistani Cinema has been facing great loss after the Pakistani authorities announced Bollywood movies to be banned in Pakistan. Due to the deteriorating relations between Pakistan and India have caused Pakistan’s Film Exhibitors and Distributors group to suspend the screening of all Indian films “until normalcy returns”.

IMGC’s Chairman Shaikh Amjad Rashid and Mohsin Yaseen of Cinepax management speak with Images on screening foreign films in Pakistan;

“It’s in the initial states right now. We’ve decided to screen films from Iran and Turkey to fill the gap of Indian films,” says Rashid.

mera-sultan-geo-kahani-600x222

“Yes. We are looking at different options from around the world to fill the gap, as Turkish dramas had a good following in Pakistan, we feel their movies will have a good impact too. Currently, we only play films from Hollywood, Bollywood and Pakistan,” echoes Mohsin Yaseen of Cinepax (Karachi) management.

ghhjh

However, this won’t necessarily be a permanent move. The chairman explains: “If the ban on Indian films is lifted, this will fizzle out because they (Iranian and Turkish films) will not yield a profitable response; they’re very different from Pakistani culture.”

So, till the time Indian movies remain banned, Turkish drama fans get to watch Turkish films and who knows, the cinemas continue to play them if the films earn popularity in Pakistan.

Since Indian content has been banned and left many in dismay, at the same time it has left Pakistani artist with an opportunity get back in the game by playing their cards right.

Jal band thinks it’s the perfect time for Pakistani artistes to step up their game,
their latest music video Tu Muskura is their first step to do that.

The music video revives old memories of their concerts in Pakistani Music Industry as the video is a collection of footage of Jal’s live shows put together with video clips of the band members going around the world.

“Since Indian content has stopped, it is the musicians’ responsibility to keep making music and release music albums so that viewers can enjoy local talent,” says Goher Mumtaz, the band’s lead singer.

Considering the complete ban on airing of Indian content in Pakistan, the singer adds, “Listeners are always searching for good content and we cannot just complain.”

We’re excited to see that Jal back, now lets see how many other artists take the advantage of the opportunity that they have now to bring on their work of art.

Laaj Episodes 14 &15 Review – Yawwwwn!

0

I found it quite a struggle to sit through these two episodes, to be honest. I know there are a few out there who really enjoy this drama and so I just want to make it clear that to each their own, we all have different tastes and while I thought this drama was a decent watch initially, the past few episodes have relied too many times on cliffhanger endings which turn out to be only a nightmare, a dream or a daydream of the character and in this latest episode when Mannat is running away she pauses next to the motorbike when the air and Shahmeer are crackling with anxiety and tension and she imagines a whole scene play out where her father shoots them both dead! I mean, really! Too many episodes of this drama have either ended on such a note or the previews of next episodes show such scenes, Bari Sb coming upon Shahzeb and Mannat, Jahanzeb declaring his love for Zainab, Zainab killing herself, to name a few. This has begun to really try my patience, aargh!

Alisha decides to come see for herself what is amiss and seeing the wedding picture hung on the wall, realizes Shahzeb has married Zainab. The only interesting scene was when Bari Sb sees Alisha and Asma Abbas acting is always spot on. I am loving her as Bari Sb and her comments about Alisha make me laugh. It is beyond weird how Zainab consoles Alisha – she is married to Shahzeb now, how about moving on? What is she thinking long term? I get she could not muster the courage to say no to Bari Sb but how is giving her blessing to Shahzeb and Alisha to not let go of their love supposed to help matters? Shehr wali biwi and gaoon wali biwi is the way forward?

pic1

Bari Sb. Ruthless Bari Sb has not forgotten about Mannat’s unborn child and has started taking steps to roll her plan into action. Shahmeer overhears her plans (that is another thing that is truly annoying – this eavesdropping on conversations to move the story forward). Anyway, Mannat and Zainab already know of Bari Sb’s plans which is why Zainab confronts Shahmeer and sends Mannat off with him in the dead of the night.

I have a feeling the scene played out between Mannat and Shahmeer when his friend’s wife locks them in while her husband runs to tell the haveli people Mannat is in his house was meant to be highly emotional but it felt like a poorly executed Indian movie. Mannat threatening to kill herself, kill her baby, Shahmeer announcing he would lay his life down for her, Mannat declaring a life without him is no life. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for romantic cheesy dialogues and scenes but this just did not work for me. So the haveli and Sikander and the evil world all ganging up against poor Mannat and Shahmeer. Well, it did not work for me but it worked for the friend’s wife for she has a change of heart and lets them escape.

pic2

Where are Mannat and Shahmeer headed? To Alisha, of course. All hell will break loose in the haveli in the next episode and Mannat will reach Alisha safely. Will Zainab be found out for her role in this escape and will she be made to pay? Will Sikander/Dilawar search for Mannat themselves since she is the mother of their heir? Will I be counting days until next Saturday? Errm, definitely not.

There are dramas which have a very average, sometimes predictable story but the acting and the direction make them stand out. Then you have a star studded cast and a weak script and direction and the drama is a bore. Laaj is excellent on the production values, the colourful sets (although I can not help notice the backgrounds are sometimes just painted which is saying a lot since I am not a very observant person) but still. Even Shahzeb’s colourful shalwar suits with matching waistcoats were interesting – although he has abandoned them and resigned himself to white and black since he has gotten married! Asma Abbas, Kamran Jillani and Zarnish Khan seemed to really fit into their characters and acted well but the endless twists which are such a figment of someone or the other’s imagination and the fact that the story lacks direction is making it hard to sit and watch the drama. I would love to hear what you all made of these episodes and how, if anyone feels the same or differently about it.

Khuda Aur Mohabbat Episode 03 Review – Well Paced!

Ohkay so, this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat was pretty decent. I like the fact that even though they are showing everything in detail, they are still moving things forward at a decent pace. The acting of all the actors is making this drama worthwhile & also, I think a little cheat is that those who know the story beforehand are also interested in this drama knowing how good things are going to get in the future. :)

Sunny has developed a very strong bond with Molvi Aleemuddin, that is why, he wanted Molvi Aleemuddin to attend the ceremony which was being conducted in an honor of him completing the 1st Juz’/Part of the Holy Qur’an. Sunny’s father Sajjad allowed him to personally meet Molvi Aleemuddin because he knew that Sunny wouldn’t accept a no for an answer & he eagerly wanted Aleemuddin to be there. Sunny along with Shakir tried to persuade Molvi Aleemuddin but he chose to send his daughters in stead & that was only because he didn’t want to break Sunny’s heart as he knew that Sunny genuinely wanted someone from his family to attend the ceremony.

Imaan & Haya got a glimpse of Sunny’s world & despite having so many distractions around, they both chose not to miss their obligatory prayers. Hammad for the first time got to see such a girl who actually struck a chord & moved him emotionally. The very first glimpse was enough for Hammad to know that may be she was the girl he was waiting all his life & what later sealed the deal was the moment when he got to see her offering prayers. The way Hammad actually felt connected to her by seeing her in a most purest form was conveyed beautifully. Hammad couldn’t understand, he just couldn’t put a finger on what was it about Imaan that engulfed him in her thoughts & for the first time in life, he felt something he hadn’t felt before. Hammad knew what he felt for Imaan wasn’t something to be ignored, that is why he chose to contact his best friend to explain everything to him & as usual, his friend ended up teasing him because who would’ve thought that a guy who was making fun of love was now thinking on those lines about someone he just saw for the first time. The way Hammad spoke about Imaan went to show that may be she was the girl he had imagined & idealized in his mind & seeing her in veil also attracted him towards her because he wanted to know more about her as she didn’t give him enough to form an opinion about her. What I loved about the entire scenario was that Hammad’s intentions were pure too!

Hammad continued with his routine but Imaan left such a strong impression that at the back of his mind he couldn’t stop thinking about her & her family. That is why he grew a little curious about the reason why Molvi Aleemuddin wasn’t coming to their house anymore. I like the fact that in the middle of such practical people, Hammad is the only one who not only stays connected with those who’re around him, but takes care of them too. This trait of Hammad is one such reason why he shares such a good bonding with Shakir & his family.

Molvi Aleemuddin & Abdullah continued with their lives which they have dedicated to one cause & that is spreading a message of Islam & also, taking care of the Masjid that Aleemuddin is in-charge of. With Abdullah being around, Aleemuddin has found a support & that is why he appreciates everything that Abdullah does. It is actually quite nice to see that even though Abdullah himself is a very good human being, he finds joy in doing everything for Imaan’s family because of his feelings for her.

The preview of the next episode suggested that Hammad’s life is about to change because he will come across Imaan repeatedly & most certainly he won’t be able to take her out of his head & heart. Also, another set of problems await for Hammad because his family especially his sister in law Abrina will try to get him hitched with her sister Narmeen & Hammad would refuse to do so. Anyways, I enjoyed watching this episode but just like all those viewers who have watched the first season, I am curious to skip to the part where that season ended to see what happens afterwards. I must say, all the actors have done a brilliant job & so has the director. I am glad that Imran Abbas/Hammad is now getting more & more coverage with each passing episode & I can’t wait to see his journey. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

PS: Since this issue has been popping up time & again & I have been getting questions about the same thing repeatedly, I think putting a disclaimer about it is necessary. I have been getting quite a lot of questions where the viewers are still confused about what they are showing in this season & also about why the cast of the 1st season has changed etc, so I’d like to let you guys know that since this story is based on a novel, they ended Season 01 in the middle of the novel & didn’t dramatize the remaining part. So, now they have come up with Season 02 in which they are going to cover the entire story of the novel from beginning to end, that is why we are getting to see, what you may call, a remake of Season 01 & when this time around, they will reach the point where the Season 01 ended, they will continue the story till the end, which actually will mark the beginning of Season 02. I hope it clears the confusion. However, I also believe that the team of Khuda Aur Mohabbat shouldn’t have used the word ‘Season 02’ to promote it because a lot of people were expecting the story to begin from the point where Season 01 ended, which usually is the case when a story is divided in the seasons & that I feel is the reason behind this confusion, but I hope it’s clear now as I am kind of getting tired of explaining the same thing again & again & again. Thank you! :)

Khuda Mera Bhi Hai Episode 4 Review – Heart-Rending

This was an amazing episode of Khuda Mera Bhi Hai; extremely emotional, somewhat upsetting and brilliantly directed. It was the kind of episode which keeps you glued to your television screen and every single scene takes your breath away mainly because of the way the narrative is being handled and the manner in which the director kept all the scenes from being over-dramatic yet they were extremely effective. Tonight’s episode belonged to Aisha Khan right from the get-go; she nailed every single scene and made even those scenes which weren’t easy to translate on screen look effortlessly effective.

fotorcreated

The birth of the first child in particular is the happiest moment for any married couple and for their families as well but unfortunately sometimes even this happiness is not guaranteed. Tonight’s episode was a rude reminder of the fact that having a child who is neither male nor female can turn this happy moment into one of the most difficult and painful moments for the parents because a mother has to face the kind of challenge which Mahgul faced tonight and a father might make decisions which a father just should not think about making. In my opinion Zain’s reaction was portrayed on screen realistically, no father should do what he did – no matter what, a father should never give his child away like this – having said that, usually men develop their bond with their babies after they are born therefore sometimes it is relatively less difficult for them to take such steps instead of facing the situation. Mothers on the other hand are connected to their children even before they are born and therefore this attachment does not start but it grows when the child comes into this world. We saw a strong woman like Mahgul giving her child away not because she isn’t strong any more but because she has not come into terms with what has happened just yet. Mahgul was shown as someone who would even take a stand for people who weren’t even related to her, she has won many battles but this is one situation she was not ready for and I am waiting for the time when she will realize that she cannot give away her child like that. I hope that Mahi takes a stand for her child and it isn’t just her condition that persuades Zain to bring his child back.

fotorcreated

While Savera took her time coming out of the shock and was unable to be there for her daughter because of her state of mind, Mahi was surrounded by people who did not exactly support her in any way. Arshi’s character was so dark for a reason; she was the one who persuaded his son to give his child away. If her character was not so negative and her hatred for Mahgul wouldn’t have been so strong, it would have been difficult to relate to her reaction in this entire scenario. Only a person like her could suggest someone like this but watching Zain go along with the idea was truly shocking. The fact that Arshi’s character is detestable is a proof that Irsa Ghazal is doing complete justice to her character.

While Syed Jibran’s look after the child was born went well with the entire situation, Ayesha Khan’s loud make-up did not quite fit in except for the scene in which they pick the child from the hospital. Ayesha Khan’s acting however in this entire episode was compelling and credible. She made the most of her expressive face and her body language was highly impressive especially in the scene in which Mahgul tries to hand over the baby to Zain and also the last scene in which she faints. The director did complete justice to all those scenes in which Mahgul struggled and also those scenes in which she was unsure and willing to go with whatever Zain suggested to her. Although I really appreciate Syed Jibran’s versatility and acting but in this particular episode he did not have the screen presence and wasn’t half as impressive as Aisha Khan. Aisha Khan made it very easy for the viewers to relate to what Mahi was going through.

The preview of the next episode showed the aftermath of the developments in tonight’s episode and its effect on Mahi and the relationship between Mahi and Zain. I am waiting to see how long it will take for Mahi to realize that she needs to get her child back.

Saba appeared in Hamza Ali Abassi’s in trailer of film Kambakhat, and in Azeem Sajjad’s 8969. In a recent interview with Sunday Magazine, On being asked about these films Saba said,

“First things first, I don’t think Hamza is interested in releasing Kambakht anymore as it was shot a long time back and if released, it might look awkward as a lot of things have changed.”

She further added,

“As for Azeem Sajjad’s project, it was not a film but a tele-film and I was conned into doing it because he was a family friend and claimed that his heroine had disappeared.”

The bold actress was seen performing an ‘item number’ on a low-grade set with bad choreography in one of the music videos from the the film. About the item number she said,
“He [Azeem Sajjad] told me that the song will be shot in a ‘royal’ manner with a huge set, limousines, foreign dancers and what not but when I went on the set, it resembled a second-grade stage….Despite my reservations, I went ahead with the badly-choreographed number which he promised to scrap once the producer had left. It was probably the biggest mistake of my career and the worst experience so far. But what was more hurtful were the statements by both of his wives who blasted me to save their egotistical husband from embarrassment.”

Silah Episode 03 Review – Totally Unimpressive!

Ohkay so, before saying anything, I’d like to put it out there that there’s no doubt about the fact that this drama might be working for those who are just watching it for time pass but when it comes to reviewing dramas like these, they get tedious & offer nothing to discuss because of being way too typical & the situations being way too similar to what we have seen in a lot of dramas before. I am sure those who must be watching it must be liking it but yes, for me as a reviewer, this drama is not working at all. I think I will give may be a couple of episodes more a go to see it if works & if it doesn’t I’ll stop reviewing it because I don’t think this drama is worth the time & effort that goes into reviewing. Yes, may be just for the sake of finding out how the story unfolds, I might binge-watch it later but for me to continue with the reviews, it will have to offer something very promising at least!

Things were way too typical to begin with. Maryam’s father shooed away all those ladies who came for a proposal of their son because they got interested in Maryam & not Farkhanda. I must say I am so not appreciating the royal treatment that Maryam gets because she is going to become a doctor. The parents time & again put the rest of their daughters down because for them Farkhanda is just a ‘mamooli school teacher’ & the youngest daughter is too young to be paid attention to. All the things that Razia discussed in order to justify how those ladies got interested in Maryam were sickening, because in stead of encouraging Farkhanda & telling her that she wasn’t a lesser human being, she went on explaining how Maryam was oh-so better than her. I understand that the writer has showed them as very typical people belonging to middle class spectrum of the society with very conservative mind sets but this doesn’t mean that middle class people do not support or encourage their daughters, unless they’re becoming doctors, hello, anyone remembers Kashaf’s mother? Sorry but it is actually quite amusing how Aleem & Razia endorse this mentality jahan Maryam ko 7 khoon maaf hain just because she is becoming a doctor. At first, I liked the fact that they were so appreciative of their daughter Maryam but now their fixation with her is cringe-worthy.

Oh well, in the very first episode, I thought Taimur’s parents must be different but in a drama where everything is so typical, how could they be any different? They are thrilled about the fact that Taimur’s rich spoiled brat of a cousin Mishail is ready to get married to Taimur & they most certainly don’t give Taimur a right to choose his life partner because he is iklota. Well, I must say the dialogues of this drama are not that impressive but there were a few which left me scratching my head for example Mishail’s complain about families with kids travelling to Pakistan & Taimur implying that if she had traveled from any other airline apart from PIA, she must’ve had a smooth journey? What logic? Can I ask Taimur what makes him believe that Pakistani families only use PIA to travel to Pakistan & not any other airlines? Please don’t tell me that the intelligent Doc-to-be Taimur thinks those couples who have kids aren’t allowed to travel in any other airline except PIA!?!?! Another gem that this episode had was where Nargis swore by the fact that Mishail would never waste her time like ‘Pakistanis’ because she was from America & according to her, Americans are very active & don’t sleep all day like Pakistanis. Mind you, this was being said about the country which has a rate of 68.8% in obesity, but again, logic!

I must say, I haven’t had the time to connect to the feelings that Taimur & Maryam have for each other & now we have both of them facing family pressures because of each other? Like their journey hasn’t even started yet & the director has started showing us their bumpy ride, as if we’d be bawling our eyes out for them just because they won’t be able to be together easily? I can’t connect to Maryam’s flip switch approach where in the first episode, she wasn’t even interested in looking at Taimur, but by the second episode, she took a ring from him & then she said marriage wasn’t on the cards for next 5 years & then, in the third episode, she was convincing Taimur to get married to her? Like does she have a stand or what? I thought we have a newer version of Kashaf by looking at the way Maryam rebuked her friend when she tried to play the cupid & by talking repetitively about all the responsibilities she has on her shoulders, but I guess it takes a lot of backbone to be like Kashaf & not everyone can be like her! I actually lol’ed at the scene where after finding out that Maryam was ready to get married, Taimur kept playing the guitar while blankly looking at her…who would take a guy like him seriously?

Is it just me or the entire concert scenario was such a reminder of the concert Zaroon had in his university days? Well, how new right! This episode was quite slow & didn’t offer much. All of a sudden a guy who wasn’t even sure of Maryam’s feelings for him is now tearing his room apart because his parent’s weren’t thrilled with the idea of him dating a medical student who belonged to a middle class family. Also, I know Maryam’s parents have a lot of expectations attached to her but I didn’t really understand the shock & terror that struck them every time the subject of Maryam’s marriage came through? I don’t want to question or doubt their intentions but they gave me such a vibe as if they were not in a mood to get Maryam married at all because they were depending a lot on her to become a doctor so that she could shape her parent’s future? Uncle Aunty jee, beti ki shadi to honi hi hai na to har baar shadi ki baat sun ke paralysis ke attack wale expressions kyun? Anyways, not impressed & most certainly not even looking forward to what is yet to come because the plot is way too simple & even the characters are not that exciting. I find Taimur/Farhan Saeed & Maryam/Annie Jaffrey boring to say the least & there is absolutely no chemistry between the supposed love birds! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Silah & oh I guess, since everyone is so fixated with Maryam & the fact that she is becoming the first Doctor of Pakistan, this drama should’ve been named after her – Dr. Maryam, why Silah? Not sure!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,

Dil Banjara Episode 5 Review – Well-Executed

This episode changed my perspective about Nida’s family in a good way and it further established Sikandar as a ‘banjara’, someone who isn’t ready to make a commitment just yet! Sikandar’s attitude tonight proved that indeed his camera was his best friend and as long as he had that and some “life” around him, he did not need anyone else. He did not even bother calling Shama and needed some space of his own – a classic case of “out of sight, out of mind”. Sikandar’s fascination with Nida was also highlighted in this episode. He found her appealing because he felt like they had a lot in common and it was a case of infatuation (I won’t call it love just yet since Sikandar is too unpredictable!) at first sight! Shama on the other hand could not stop thinking about Sikandar and has no idea that Sikandar’s proposal was merely a temporary escape from tackling the difficult situation he was in. Both these characters have been well-established in these few episodes and so far even with all his flaws, Sikandar’s character is far more interesting than that of Shama. Adnan Malik’s performance in this episode was steady enough, he manages to do well in the scenes in which Sikandar is shown as a easy going person but he cannot pull the emotional scenes off and goes overboard.

fotorcreated

Unlike the past few episodes my favorite scenes tonight were the ones which covered Nida’s family. Faseeha’s personality yet again was portrayed brilliantly; I cannot praise the writer, the director and Hina Bayat enough for translating this very special character so beautifully on screen! One minute we saw Faseeha worrying sick about her daughter and the other minute she was so distracted she even forgot that she was waiting for Nida’s call. The suggestion about the ring tone and the way all the conversations were haphazard yet poignant was simply perfect. Her character brings a smile on your face every time you watch her on screen. Also, the way the whole family came out to say goodbye, Taye’s concern and Taya giving money to Nida showed that deep down these people loved Nida. In fact all the politics that is being shown is part of almost all joint families no matter how close people are which makes this family easy to relate to but these scenes which show their concern for each other add an emotional undercurrent to this track. When Nida was leaving for the airport, the early morning, late night scene was covered well.

Nida and Sikandar’s chance meeting was a success mainly due to Sanam Saeed’s performance. She portrayed Nida’s anxiety perfectly, in fact she did really well in all the emotional scenes tonight. Nida’s new friend (Sharmeen Kashif)  is very different from her; she does not mind eating food that is not halal, she is a free soul who is much more confident and definitely not as responsible as Nida. Watching Nida making so much fuss over a lie was hard to digest since the viewers did not see her telling her father not to tell her phupo a lie. The only disappointing aspect of this episode was that even though Nida had been dreaming of visiting new places for the longest time now and this was a dream come true for her yet she was not fascinated by all the beauty of this new place. That part of Nida’s personality should have been given some screen time as well. She was more focused on doing well in the competition but a nature lover like her should have been easily distracted by a place which has a lot to offer to a tourist.

Overall, this was an entertaining and well-executed episode with quite a few good performances to its credit. Although this episode showed Nida and Sikandar’s first few scenes together but the highlight of this episode were the scenes of Nida’s family and her conversations with her father. Samina Ahmed and Hina Bayat’s characters gave the viewers a reason to laugh while Sanam Saeed and Mohsin Gillani’s scene were touching.

Sang e Marmar Episode 11 Review – A New Beginning!

Awwww, I can’t help feel sad at the recent turn of events but somehow there are few characters who made the entire situation better. I loved how the writer has balanced out every single thing, like for one negative character, there are two positive characters who steer the entire situation in some other direction. Even though this episode focused on only one chapter, which was Safiullah’s marriage with Shireen, I totally loved the way the director took his time in conveying & covering each & everyone’s feeling about the whole situation. Props to the entire team of Sang e Marmar who even made the ‘dusri biwi’ scenario seem so meaningful & different. I think all those drama-makers who’re fixated with the ‘dusri biwi’ scenario should watch Sang e Marmar & learn a few lessons from it. Thank you Team Sang e Marmar once again, for giving us a beautiful beautiful drama which is filled with such beautiful characters.

No one can imagine what Shireen must’ve been through when just a few seconds before her Nikkah, she found out that the one she was dreaming of wasn’t going to become her husband. Obviously she had no other choice than to agree with what her brother & her sister in law chose for her but the note at which she left Saif ur Rehman’s house was enough to haunt him for the rest of his life. I actually laughed when I heard Saif ur Rehman talking about his ‘izzat’, delusion & denial is amusing at times. Even though Saif ur Rehman felt burdened & guilty, he should know that nothing can be undone, even if he wants to. I so wish, I really wish Baroo Kaka & Saif ur Rehman had that conversation before Shireen’s marriage because at least, that way it would’ve put things into perspective for the blind Saif ur Rehman as he obviously grew a little curious about the version his wife presented in front of him & the one he was getting to hear from Baroo Kaka. The timing wasn’t right & so was Shireen’s luck. ‘Yaad rakhna Lala, mai nahi, meri kismat kharab hai’, Shireen said it all, but if only Saif ur Rehman will understand that!

Gullalai conveyed the jealousy & feelings of such a woman perfectly whose husband was getting married again & she couldn’t do anything. Gullalai tried to be strong but she couldn’t keep up when she saw Shireen. The thought that she had about losing Safiullah to his young & beautiful bride Shireen was enough for her to feel bitter & that is why, all her reactions that followed after that particular the thought showcased her jealousy because at least this was something that was in her control & she was entitled to!

Honestly speaking, even though as much as I feel bad for Shireen, Gulistan’s wife & Safiullah’s mother changed the entire situation completely & didn’t make it seem so grim than it actually was. It was so good to see that at least there was someone who had a sense of justice in her, there was someone who knew what was right & wrong & there was someone who knew that Shireen was innocent & had nothing to do with what transpired in the past & that was Shireen’s mother in law. It was for the first time when Safiullah’s mother taunted Gullalai for not having a child because she knew that Gullalai was going off-track & she had to be reminded of how unfair she was in dealing with Shireen. Even though Gulistan’s wife hasn’t recovered from the loss of Gohar, it was so amazing to see her not going against her character by not displaying humanity in such a situation. It was like being a woman, Gulistan’s wife could relate to what Shireen must be going through, especially when she was not at fault, that is why she took the matters in her own hands & tried to normalize the situation by being nice to Shireen, by not letting Gohar’s murder clouding her judgment, by reminding Gullalai about how wrong she was & by also telling Safiullah to accept Shireen as his wife. It must’ve taken a lot for a woman like her who lost her son to be fair & just in this situation & Gulistan’s wife proved how emotionally, morally & ethically strong she was. Respect!

Everyone got a fair share to display their anger & frustration at Safiullah’s marriage with Shireen but the one who wanted to make the most of the situation was Sherbano but all her attempts fell flat because no one was buying what she was trying to instigate. Sherbano actually thought that she now got two preys who she could victimize but very nicely, she was shown her right place, first by Gullalai & then by her own mother. In a heat of the moment, Gullalai only judged Shireen on the basis of a the new found relation with her but Sherbano came as a reminder of how she can form a team against her, like she actually had to, in order to defeat Sherbano time & again because if she wouldn’t do that, Sherbano will not only walk over Shireen but on her too. How often do we get to see such women who support their daughters in law in stead of supporting their own daughters? It is actually quite amazing that Gulistan’s wife knows all her children so well, she knows that Gulistan has instilled this unfair sense of superiority in them because of which even Sherbano has turned out to be so irrational & bitter. Sherbano actually thought that she’d be able to run things in her father’s home just because on her demand, Gulistan got Shireen married to Safiullah but it was absolutely appeasing to see Gullalai & her own mother proving her wrong. ‘Aggar sab apne apne ghar mai rahain to In Sha Allah hamare ghar mai koi larai nahi hogi’, hah, I love how subtly Gullalai reminded Sherbano that she wasn’t a part of this home anymore but if only she’d understand!

Like always, this episode was beautiful & I had a great time watching it. I will once again thank the dialogue writer for adding those one-liners that change the mood of the entire scene. ‘Danton ka deedaar’ was another gem that got added in the book of amazing dialogues of Sang e Marmar. Even though in my entire review, I haven’t spoken about Shireen but I will say, that in my opinion, after Sania Saeed, this episode belonged to Kubra Khan. Kubra Khan actually portrayed the feelings of Shireen beautifully, even though it is because of the director & his impeccable work that we have formed a connection with all these characters, but Kubra Khan on her own made us feel the pain of Shireen at some other level. Starting from being shocked to get a news of who she was going to get married to at the time of her Nikkah, to entering a completely new place like a stranger, more like an invited guest who no one was happy to see, to someone who was blank at what her life had in store for her, Kubra Khan conveyed it all & nailed it. I loved the flashback that Shireen had about her childhood interaction with Gulistan Khan. Shireen never would’ve imagined that the times will change in such a way that the man she saw as an embodiment of kindness in her childhood will turn out to be the man who’d ruin her entire life. Uzma Hassan has done a wonderful job as hateful & bitter Sherbano, I love how she always has something to say to Torah, even when he is being normal with her, supposedly at least! Moray Saiyaan Episode 01 Review – A Promising Start!

0

Ohkay so, written by Rabia Razzaque, directed by Nadeem Siddique & produced by Abdullah Seja; Moray Saiyaan commenced on ARY Digital at the prime time slot on Tuesday. I just watched the very first episode & I can I say that I am quite impressed. This drama not only brings a change in terms of the scenery but in terms of the cast too. To be honest, all throughout the episode, I was actually quite happy to see some new faces & I commend the casting director for choosing newcomers. I know it must’ve taken a lot of brainstorming on the drama-makers part to come to a decision whether they should give a break to the new faces or not but I’d be happy to let them know that they definitely made the right decision. I am not sure how the drama is going to unfold but it surely has began at a very promising note.

We were introduced to a single family which was pretty scattered & divided but there was one such person who believed in binding them & I am sure he will make that happen. Zakia (Irsa Ghazal) is a single mother of two Nimra (Kinza Hashmi) & Anas. She has a support of her brother Waris Afridi (Firdous Jamal) who has a son Ghaziyan (Uzair Jaswal). Ghaziyan has just returned from the US after completing his education as a petroleum engineer. Ghaziyan & Nimra are engaged to be married & it seems that Zakia is quite possessive about Ghaziyan, so much so that she keeps on telling her daughter to take care of herself because she feels that way Nimra will be able to keep Ghaziyan’s attention intact. Not sure if it is because of a failed marriage or due to her own personality, Zakia seems to be quite an egoist & to some extent paranoid, that is why the mention of her ex-husband Kabeer upsets her, she has estranged her sister, she controls her daughter & wants to control her nephew & Nimra’s fiancé Ghaziyan too.

collage-01

We then got to see that Zakia & Waris also have a sister Gul Zeb/Gul Bibi who came into their lives after their father’s second marriage. This is the reason why Gul Zeb has been estranged by Zakia as she thinks her father made a mistake by going for a second marriage, so now when he is not alive, there’s no reason for her to hold onto the relations that according to her were merely a mistake. Waris seems to be quite normal when it comes to Gul Zeb but Zakia on the other hand don’t want to associate with her sister, so much so that she doesn’t appreciate the fact that Ghaziyan spends time with her.

collage-02

Gul Bibi has a niece Zubaria (Neha Rajpoot), who often visits her & is a medical student. Zubaria lives in a hostel & keeps on visiting her father, brother Jamshed & sister in law Afshan. Even though Zubaria is young, she is quite responsible & mature, that is why she makes sure to give her family & her aunt some time out of her busy schedule. Ghaziyan & Zubaria meet at Gul Bibi’s place & that’s when Ghaziyan feels that he needs to cheer Zubaria up as he thinks she is missing a lot on her life by keeping herself engrossed in her worries. For Ghaziyan, Zubaria is like a very fascinating mystery & he wants to get to know her, to actually understand her better. It looked like more than the need for Zubaira to be cheered up, Ghaziyan just wants to get close to her to overcome the curiosity in his mind & heart about Zubaira. Even though Ghaziyan is engaged to Nimra, he doesn’t hold back in expressing his feelings about Zubaria in front of Gul Bibi. Gul Zeb knows that if anyone in Zakia’s family will find out about what Ghaziyan intends to do, as in how he intends to befriend Zubaria, no one will be happy but Ghaziyan is someone who believes in doing what his hearts tells him to.

Ghaziyan knows what sort of a person Zakia is & how she believes in controlling those who are close to her, but he is quite independent emotionally that is why without worrying about Zakia, he not only meets Gul Bibi but also intends to spend more time with her niece Zubaria from now on. I liked the accidental interactions between Zubaria & Ghaziyan. As much as Zubaria didn’t want to be associated with him, Ghaziyan made sure to have a conversation with her because he knows she needs someone to teach her how to be happy & just not be always worried about smallest of things in life. Ghaziyan comes from a completely different background & even though he has lived quite a nice life, it was actually good to see him being in touch with his emotional side where he felt bad seeing how his family was broken into pieces.

collage-03

We also got to see a conversation between Dr. Farah (Ayesha Toor) & Dr. Altamash Kabeer (Ali Kazmi). I believe Altamash will be Kabeer’s son, the same Kabeer who also happens to be Zakia’s husband or ex-husband. I think Zakia must be the reason why her marriage failed because going by the things Nimra said, looks like Waris being a rational person told everyone the truth that Kabeer never faltered when it came to his responsibilities but Zakia on the other hand painted a completely different picture in front of her children, that is why Nimra seemed a little confused but I am sure it will be interesting to see that track unfolding too. I liked how Nimra even after living with a rigid mother like Zakia, had the sense of differentiating between right & wrong. Nimra seemed a lot more optimistic & positive in comparison to Zakia but Zakia on the other hand kept on instilling all those fears & complexes in her daughter that she herself has!

Overall, the first episode was done beautifully. Starting from direction to locations to dialogues to situations each & everything was spot on. Even though it happens to be the very first drama of Uzair Jaswal, he seemed pretty comfortable when it came to acting. Neha Rajpoot seemed a little stiff & hesitant in terms of acting as these must’ve been the very initial days of shoot so that is why her lack of confidence was evident from her body language but I am sure we will get to see an improvement in her performance as the episodes will progress. Kinza Hashmi on the other hand seemed quite confident & acted brilliantly too. I must say, I can’t thank the casting director enough for choosing some new, fresh & young & beautiful faces for this drama & for not relying on those actors who are always pasted on our screens, what a relief! The way they established a relation between Zubaria & Ghaziyan was actually quite cute, you could actually feel a connection between the two, which is great!!!

I must say the locations they chose had a great impact on the overall feel of the drama & made things seem quite appeasing. The note at which the drama has begun seems quite promising, even though it has the entire love triangle happening but the supporting characters are so strong that things are definitely going to be interesting. I think they introduced the characters & their back stories in a very apt manner, like it seemed quite detailed for the very first episode. Also, I liked the fact that after letting us know about the relations that these guys shared, the writer also showed us that all these characters had something going for them in their lives, like Zubaria was studying to become a doctor, Ghaziyan became a petroleum engineer & Nimra was a badminton player, like it was good to see that these young characters weren’t only fixated with the idea of marriage & had nothing else in their lives! The dialogues were nice too & I liked the interactions between Ghaziyan & Khalil as well. I must say, for the very first episode, I am impressed & I an’t wait for the next episode already. Please share your thoughts about the very first episode of Moray Saiyaan.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

ps: I hope The Terrific Tuesday luck touches this drama too as I have always been lucky with the Tuesday dramas haha. I hope Moray Saiyaan takes after Besharam & turns out to be a great drama as well. ;)

One of Pakistan’s heartthrobs, Ali Zafar was reported to be replaced with Raj Bhasin (the Karan Rastogi of film Mardaani) in Gauri Shinde’s upcoming film Dear Zindagi starring Alia Bhatt and Shahrukh Khan. Due to political issues between Pakistan and India, the singer of Madhubala was sent back to Pakistan.

The good news for all the Ali Zafar fans is that Ali Zafar is no longer being replaced in the film by Gauri Shinde.

Dumpukht- Atish-e-Ishq Episode 17- Hope floats

Mureedon ke ghar pe tum peerzadi paida hui ho... Sonia Mishaal was phenomenal in today’s episode and gave a strong and flawless performance. I admire Kulsoom for her perseverance and her self respect- Bhaagi toh mein tab bhi nahin thi, jab woh merey saath Khara tha… Kulsoom knows that even though she hates the situation she’s in right now, running away is not an option. Although, in retrospect, had she run away she would at least be out of Habibullah’s reach which is worrying me with each passing episode.

Tahira was trying to compensate by being overly nice and bringing Kulsoom her favourite food. Thank God our Kulchu isn’t a bottomless pit like most men in our dramas and she said out loud what hurt her the most about her predicament –Unhon ne apna karoobaar bachaya hai na? Apne rizq mein barkat laney ke liye mujhe qurbaan kardiya…

Bilal came to meet Nimmo since he knows she’s the only one who genuinely loves Kulsoom and will lend him an ear. Nimmo softened to his narrative and tried to convince Kulsoom of the same. Haroon Bhai has evolved into a Zalim shohar but only because he has orders from the higher ups to ensure Kulsoom has no contact with Billu. Nimmo yet again tried to speak up for Kulsoom- what was the logic behind having her live there when the condition was only for Bilal? Nimmo doesn’t trust Habibullah and doesn’t like the idea of Haroon Bhai trying to control Kulsoom either. At the same time, she’s smart enough to realize that pointing fingers at the Peer will not trigger any positive response so she shifts the focus on Haroon Bhai who is currently on everyone’s hit list including Bibi Sahiba.

Bibi’s plan to have Kulsoom meet Bilal backfires because Habibullah is thinking two steps ahead. Wali elevated Habibullah in the eyes of Bibi by mentioning how he’s committed to Bibi. Wali seems to be playing in both teams- will he be the one to bring forth the downfall of Habibullah?

Mohabbat har burai bardaasht karsakti hai lekin beizzatti bardaasht nahin karsakti…
Mein apni badkismati ke saath toh Jee sakti houn lekin apni beizzatti ke saath nahin…
Will Kulsoom realize Bilal is sincere? I somehow get the feeling that these two aren’t destined for a happy ending and I hope I’m wrong because that is definitely how I’d like things to end for these two.

One of my favourite things about this drama is the rich dialogues that I’m certain will stay with me for a very long time. One of my fellow viewers asked me last week about the writer and director and I feel I get so caught up in the drama, I fail to give credit where it’s due- kudos to Zafar Miraj for this brilliant piece of work and Kashif Nisar for such finesse with direction. Every actor has contributed to delivering a captivating performance and I really can’t help appreciating the work that is quite a few notches above the vast majority of dramas currently on air.

What’s your take on this latest episode? What’s Wali’s next move?

Teri Chah Mein Episode 16 Review – Sins Of The ….Mother?

0

You know what I felt was refreshingly different about today’s episode and the direction the drama has taken now? A wife not staying in the stupor like denial that her husband does not care for her anymore and reduce herself to a screaming, scheming shrew. Granted, Mehwish had become like that for a while but she seems to have snapped out of that state when faced with watching Zara take a decision which she felt would ruin her life. It was a relief to be spared from watching biwi number one battle with biwi number two over who shall feed the miyan, iron his clothes, have his attention etc!

Mehwish seemed to forget her own marital troubles while she worries about Zara. She feels this is happening due to her own ‘sins’. Marrying Faisal was definitely not a sin so I am not sure where she is coming from but well, bottom line Mehwish feels she is to blame. Faisal’s verbal diarrhea when he tells Mehwish about his own guilt over Zara and his reasons for continuing to live in this house further squash out any glimmer of hope Mehwish may have nurtured. After Faisal walks out and Mehwish is seething, I was surprised to see that her anger was not directed at how to exact her revenge but to prevent Zara from making the mistake she herself had made.

pic2

Zara seems to gain immense joy and satisfaction by throwing her mother and Faisal’s arguments back in their face. She is adamant that she will not back down from her decision to marry Faizan. Mehwish then reaches out to the one person who she knows Zara can not refuse. Although surprised and angry to have to even hear from Mehwish ever again, Chacha steps up and shows up at Mehwish’s house to ‘save’ Zara.

Meanwhile, Amber and Faisal are happy in their bubble and with the news of Amber’s pregnancy. Waisay what was all that scene in the mall about? Which mother lets a random stranger pick up her child like that? Cringeworthy and weird! It is really odd how Faisal lets out these streams of confessions of love and how his past was all a mistake, a bad dream, blah blah and Amber is everything for him now. Makes me wonder at Amber’s mental state too that she does not question how reliable can this man be who, ah well – we all know what he has done. Not saying what he has done is right or wrong but it definitely does not land him high up on the reliability spectrum!

pic1

Zara’s thoughts when Mehwish has taken ill gave me goosebumps. Mehwish threatens to kill herself and Zara calmly tells her to go ahead. Mehwish collapses and Zara says it is not her love rather her ‘anna’ that is making her react this way. I do have to say it makes me laugh how flippantly and matter of factly Zara drops snippets of information here and there. The way she told Faisal’s parents that he had remarried and moved out leaving them shocked was funny. I have never been a fan of Saboor Ali but she has acted so well and done full justice to Zara’s character. Her body language when she speaks to Mehwish and when she speaks to her Chacha, where you can sense her struggle of wanting to stand firm to her decision but at the same time not wanting to hurt her uncle. Her expressions making you wonder whether she even cares for Faizan at all or he is just part of her plan to get back at her mother. Amber’s character and Faryal Mehmood stand out like a sore thumb and the lesser her scenes the better I feel. I am glad she has moved out so the focus is now back on Zara and Mehwish.

Next week’s preview shows Mehwish is seriously unwell and I am honestly curious to see what change, if any, that may bring in Zara and Faisal. A story that started off so dramatically and then seemed to go a bit down the all too predictable and boring route of two wives seems to have picked up pace again and has me looking forward to the next episode. What did you all think of this episode? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Mahira Khan Talks About Her Future Plans

14360156_323426458010213_7120342855146536960_n1

Mahira Khan, who is now known to be one of the most versatile actresses of Pakistan, gained popularity after playing the character of Khirad in drama serial Humsafar. After winning the hearts of Pakistani audience by brilliantly performing in Pakistani movies and dramas, the actress set out to make her debut in a Bollywood film “Raees” alongside Shahrukh Khan. But sadly due to some political crisis, Mahira was asked to leave and MNS threatened to stop the release of the film which was scheduled to be released in January 2017. Even after such hardships, Mahira remains to be strong and has decided not to look back.

Mahira as Ayesha in Bol, Saba in Bin Roye, Shano in Sadqay Tumhare, Falak in Shehr e zaat and Khirad in Humsafar.

In a recent conversation with Women’s Own, she was asked about her future plans to which she replied;

“I’m working on a film directed by Shoaib Mansoor with an all new cast. After that I’m working on a really light comedy written by Vasay Chaudhry. I have also signed on a film with Azaan Sami Khan, so I’m going to be doing a lot of cool stuff.”

she also added that;

“I’d also like to produce and direct myself very soon. I just don’t know if I’d be able to handle actor egos. I wouldn’t make a film that’s too serious. I like commercial films, something to do with youth. Romantic comedies are my favorite.”

So the good news for all the Mahira Khan fans is that, they’ll see her in her up coming projects very soon.

Shehrnaz Episode 2 Review – More Highs Than Lows

This episode focused completely on Shehrnaz and few of the scenes which showed just how headstrong and vocal she was helped the viewers understand her character better. The viewers got to see two different shades of Shehrnaz’s personality which made her character much more interesting than a lot of one-dimensional characters which we see on screen very often. Shehrnaz is determined, speaks her mind and will never let someone stand in her way but at the same time she was willing to give up her biggest dream when her father was unwell. Also, her scenes with her friend showed her soft side. Every time Shehrnaz talked about making it big she included people who she loved in her dreams. Once again the viewers saw her making a promise to her friend and her father. These dialogues were a great addition because they showed that Shehrnaz was not a selfish person. Very often we see ambitious girls in dramas who will do anything to get what they want but so far this particular leading lady does not have those traits. These personality traits make her more human as well. Shehrnaz’s character is easy to relate to, the writer and the director have so far covered her overall personality flawlessly and Ayeza Khan’s natural performance makes it even more pleasant. She has kept the balance needed to ensure that her character did not go overboard.

The most poignant scenes of this episode, just like the previous episode, were the ones which covered Shehrnaz’s relationship with her father. Sajid Hassan never ceases to impress; his outstanding performance coupled with the way these scenes have been written are making this father-daughter relationship a complete winner. Naseeb Gul’s support and love for his daughter has to be the best aspect of this drama which breaks all stereotypes. Very often we see parents opposing such decisions made by their daughters but Naseeb Gul has faith in his daughter. It remains to be seen if he will be part of the drama for a long time or not and whether his relationship with Shehrnaz will remain the same. Shehrnaz’s friend’s character is another positive character in the play. Although the actress playing the role does not look young enough to play the role of a college student but her acting is effortless. The scenes between these friends too were emotional and on point.

fotorcreated

Shehrnaz’s brief confrontation with Aly Khan’s character had to be the most clichéd and predictable part of this episode. That scene was also directed really well but there was nothing new about it. Shehrnaz and Sherry came closer to each other in this episode. For now this particular track is not holding my interest primarily because of Farhan Malhi. Sherry’s family did not get a lot of screen time in this episode but I can’t say that they were missed! Shehrnaz’s meeting with the photographer didn’t have that much of an impact but his comments about her later on were quite interesting.

I like the choice of locations because there is nothing done-to-death about them. Shehrnaz’s house and her college in particular are my favorite locations. Also, the locations changed very often in both these episodes, which gave the drama a good feel. This was an entertaining episode of Shehrnaz, the director deserves full marks for his creativity. Tonight’s episode definitely gave me a reason to tune into this drama next week. Although the preview of the next episode was quite long but it didn’t give away any important twists except for the scene between Shehrnaz and Sherry which did seem slightly premature. I am hoping that this would be a dream sequence. Watching Shehrnaz’s father steal for her was something which made me curious about the outcome. Ayeza Khan and Sajid Hassan owned this episode yet again. The chemistry between them and their well-executed scenes were the best part of this episode.

How many of you watched this latest installment? Please share your thoughts about it.

Dhaani Episode 17 Review – So Far, So Slow!

0

Ohkay so, honestly speaking, even though this drama is a good watch, but I really feel they have slowed the pace down a little too much. I really think they should also start airing Dhaani twice a week because the pace is so so so slow that you actually feel nothing is happening at this stage in the drama. I am actually dreading the fact that this drama will cross 20+ episodes.

I actually think with Khuda Aur Mohabbat being on air & the absolute similarities between the plots, the channel should’ve thought things through & they shouldn’t have aired both these dramas together at least, because while watching this episode, I was being reminded of Khud Aur Mohabbat again & again because both the male characters faced the same situation. I think the channel should have finished off with Dhaani before airing Khuda Aur Mohabbat because it made me feel that I was watching the latter with some tweaking & modern twist!

So, Kaleem wants Dhaani to get married to Amjad ASAP, that is why he sends a proposal to pre-pone the date. Dhaani feels burdened but has nothing much to say. I liked the conversation she & Raja had, Raja is the only one who knows her in & out, that is why he could feel something was definitely different about her but Dhaani brushed everything off her shoulder as she knew that Raja won’t be able to understand her feelings.

As expected, Riyasat put a lot of pressure on Rehan to make Sameer agree to get married to Maya otherwise he will withdraw all the money he invested in Rehan’s political campaign. Rehan knows that without Riyasat’s support, he won’t be able to win the elections, that is why he reminds Sameer of everything as to how his entire political career was depending upon his & Maya’s marriage. When Sameer chooses not to budge, Rehan demands him to pay him back every single penny that Rehan till date has spent on him & if he manages to do so, Rehan will not oppose his decision of not marrying Maya.

Sameer decides to leave the house & everything starting from basics to luxuries, which could make his father feel that he was still dependent on him. Sameer decides to seek his friend’s help in getting a job but the preview suggested that Riyasat will make sure Sameer doesn’t get a job so that after succumbing to the pressures he returns to his parents’ home & agrees to get married to Maya. It was good to see that at least there was one such family member; Sameer’s sister in law who supported him wholeheartedly. I hope she plays a role where she convinces Sameer’s parents to forgive him in the future. Rehan might think that by estranging Sameer, he will be able to score some brownie points in front of Riyasat, but soon enough Riyasat will let him know that he is far more ruthless than Rehan imagined & he wouldn’t even care much about what Rehan did to please him!

Overall, this episode was slow to the extent of being boring. I think Amjad’s family is getting way more coverage & their conversations are sadly so repetitive that the moment they show up on screen, I know that they will be fixating over Dhaani. The director has needlessly slowed the pace of the story down so much that it is getting harder for me to keep my interest alive in the show. The spark, the charm everything has been compromised upon & those were the factors that attracted the viewer’s attention in the first place. Dhaani would’ve been definitely interesting if Sameer’s character was as good as Hammad’s because then his journey filled with struggles would’ve been interesting to watch but somehow, not sure if it’s because of the writer or because of the director, I haven’t warmed up to the character of Sameer till date so to see such a turning point of his life still didn’t make any impact. I think the casting director just filled the drama with those actors who charged next to nothing because they are acting-free, be it Sameer’s sister in law, Sameer’s friend, Maya or even Maya’s father, all of them are so poker-faced that I wonder what are they doing on screen. Ayesha Sana is wasted & most of the times, it looks she’s going to burst into laughter because she is having such a hard time in emoting the concerns of a mother & even Asad seems as stiff as stone. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Dhaani & I so wish that the channel considers airing this drama twice a week!!!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,

The Most Odd On-Screen Couples of Pakistani Dramas

What makes an on screen couple odd? The answer is simple, the wrong choice of actors, lack of chemistry between the stars playing their respective roles and the way their track is introduced and carried forward both by the writer and the director. Sometimes the story is not strong but poignant performances, sleek direction and on screen chemistry between the leads can make an on screen couple a hit. At other times even when the actors give their best performances and the director puts in his best effort too, the overall product is not impressive because the story-line is dodgy.

Here is the list of some of the most odd couples from a few recent drama serials.

Aiman Khan & Sajid Hassan (Beqasoor)

Sajid Hassan is one of the most talented actors of our drama industry therefore it was just plain sad watching him being part of a drama like Beqasoor. Older men get married to younger girls all the time in dramas but the shocking age difference between Shehryar (Sajid Hassan) and Sehr (Aiman Khan) and the way some of the scenes after they got married were shot coupled with the dialogues and few of the developments made their track cringe-worthy. This particular couple is in the list because of the way their track was covered and the overall developments in their story. Like every other track in Beqasoor it had absolutely no depth and it got worse with every passing episode. Sajid Hassan and Aiman Khan both gave brilliant performances but the twists in their track were so absurd that it was a total failure.

01-bayqasoor

Hareem Farooq & Osman Khalid Butt (Sanam)

Sanam being the highly anticipated drama actually came with the biggest shock for the viewers when the promos suggested that OKB was paired opposite Hareem Farooq. The disappointment also came with a reason that people were still not ready to accept the favorite Mother-Son duo from Diyar-e-Dil as a Married Couple in Sanam. By the time Sanam started, a lot of people gave Hareem & OKB’s pair a chance thinking that they will be getting to see some unconventional sort of a couple & the casting director must’ve had something in his mind, only to find out that it was a bad bad bad decision that he made. Aila & Harib’s characters weren’t etched out properly by the writer which made the hopes of the viewers falter but what made things worst was the fact that the viewers couldn’t curb the oddness which peaked through while seeing Hareem & OKB together as a couple because they lacked chemistry & didn’t look like a married couple from any angle. OKB looks best when he is paired against petite actresses & Hareem’s personality is surely not petite, which is why in all those scenes where Harib was seen chanting Aila Jaan, it made the viewers feel that he actually meant Aila Baji Jaan.

Humayun Saeed & Armeena Rana (Bin Roye)

Even with all its weaknesses Bin Roye is a much better drama than many other dramas in this list but since we are talking about odd couples therefore the leading pair of Bin Roye Saman and Irtiza definitely fits the bill. These roles are being played by the very talented Hamayun Saeed and not-so-talented Armeena Rana Khan. The reason why this couple is odd is that there is absolutely no chemistry between Armeena Rana and Hamayun Saeed. Another reason is that the scenes covering their relationship were too short in the last two episodes. The few conversations they had when Irtiza used to visit Saman often in the US were quite monotonous. Most of the viewers have not been able to relate to the connection these two characters share because of these two reasons and also because most of the times Armeena Rana Khan’s confusing expressions and shaky dialogue delivery leaves you disappointed.

Zahid Ahmed & Sonia Mishal (Sangat)

This has to be the most odd couple in this list for obvious reasons! The way Salma’s character stood by Shahwez even after finding out that he had raped someone was just plain sick! We have seen many desperate girls in dramas who love a man even though they can never be with him but Salma really was one-of-a-kind and not in a good way! Shahwez played the role of the rapist and the hero at the same time and Salma’s character was used repeatedly to plead Shahwez’s case. This couple was odd not just because of their relationship with each other but right till the end the viewers never really figured out why their relationship was given so much importance. Zahid Ahmed’s talent was wasted in this drama because of the way the story was taken forward.

Saboor Ali & Salahuddin Tunio (Beqasoor)

Yes Beqasoor had some really odd couples to its credit! Saboor Ali’s character Hira was shown as a girl who would even jump off a cliff to please her step-father and she did just that when she decided to marry the suitor Ameen (Salahuddin Tunio) which her father had selected for her. Hira kept on going back to Ameen for various reasons and they got plenty of screen time together. The choice of actors clearly shows why this had to be one of the most odd couples in drama history. Saboor Ali somehow is part of two other projects in which she will likely end up marrying men who are not exactly her age. In Tere Chah Mein her character is about to marry a man much older than her and her character is seen flirting with Faisal Qureshi in the promos of drama serial Waada – more odd couples coming our way?

Adnan Siddique & Mawra Hocane (Aahista Aahista)

Yes, we all know the fact that Awazaar (Zawar) was shown years & years, probably a couple of decades older to Haya but to see them romancing right underneath the eyes of Zawar’s first wife Sofia was so inappropriate. I can’t remember how many times I felt nauseous seeing them acting all lovey dovey with each other. It is not a secret anymore that Adnan Siddique likes to be paired with girls quarter his age, but that drama included a lot such scenes where both Adnan & Mawra had to show how much they loved each other, which was nothing but puke-worthy. The fact that Haya was ready to sacrifice everything for Awazar because she was in love without even knowing him personally made the viewers question the credibility of the writer. It was directed by Haseeb Hassan & it reminds me that even in Aahista Aahista, Awazar was mad about the Pakistani parathas that Haya rolled, just like Harib is about Aan’s parathas in Sanam, I guess Haseeb Hassan has a thing for parathas, hmmmm!!!

Ayesha Khan & Danish Taimoor (Shert)

Just as weird as the plot of the drama was, the pairing of Ayesha Khan opposite Danish Taimoor was odd too. In a few episodes, Ayesha Khan’s character was married to Syed Jibran & we could see how they both looked good together because they fall in the same age bracket. When Ayesha’s character got married to Danish’s in the later part of the drama after so much of flirting & what not, not only their scenes, their conversations & their chemistry was bad, the overall age difference between the two made things far more cringe-worthy. Ayesha Khan’s character was quite desperate in the drama where she only gets married to Danish to get back with her husband & in the middle of this, she falls pregnant while she is married to him *pukes*. Well long story short, it was hard to sit through Ayesha Danish’s scenes not only because the relation they shared was bizarre but also because even a lot of tight curls & Khaadi’s Kurtas designed for girls, the drama-makers couldn’t curb the fact that Ayesha basically looked like Danish’s Bari Appa Jee!

Sana Javed & Murad Jahanzaib (Zara Yaad Kar)

We all know that Mahnoor got Umar Din as a punishment for all the mistakes that she committed in life & the writer wanted to justify that after suffering a lot, Haadi ended up being the one who sentenced Mahnoor to life-long imprisonment by getting her married to Umar Din, but the idea of that couple still haunts me to date, that’s why the inclusion seems inevitable!

Samina Peerzada & Waseem Abbas (Aap Ke Liye)

They both are very experienced actors & they both are hired to play a negative role in a drama. There is absolutely nothing wrong in pairing them as a couple but the treatment both Samina Peerzada & Waseem Abbas have given to the characters of Nishat & Imdad is bizarre to say the least. In quite a few scenes, Nishat & Imdad are seen suggestively flirtatious with each other which makes their scenes hard to sit through & what’s worse is seeing Waseem Abbas in a Beige Silk Night Suit time & again! Considering the amount of experience they both have, it is actually sad to see them going over-board with their portrayal & coming across as creepy, negative & the most odd couple on-screen of recent times.

09-aap-ke-liye

So, there you have it, our list of the most odd couples of Pakistani dramas. I think the casting directors have a huge responsibility on their shoulders when it comes to casting actors for different roles because by the end of the day, it is an actor’s job to elaborate a character on screen, so when the choice isn’t going to be right to begin with, it will definitely impact the outcome of the drama.

What do you guys think about the list of odd couple, please feel free to share your thoughts & add more names to the list too.

Sanam Episode 09 Review – Ye Kya Ho Raha Hai Allah Miyan?

Ohkay so, this drama taught me one amazing lesson, that after you have had a gazillion parathas, pizzas, cold drinks & ice creams, one thing you definitely shouldn’t miss is a cup of green tea *sipping from my cup of green tea*. Oh well, may Allah bless my dear sister who doesn’t watch this drama, but just because she happened to watch a promo of this drama, she innocently asked me if Aila was back in Harib’s life after a plastic surgery, then I had to tell her that no, Harib has a thing for mentally challenged & mentally scattered ladies & the new face that she was talking about was of Harib’s first love Sara & not his first wife Aila, haha!

I must say, I loveee the way they reinforce the importance of FOOD in our lives week after week after week. I love how all the ladies keep on hovering around Harib like food-fairies, be it Shabnam, Aan & now Sara, how sweet. I am sure it won’t take too long before Fatima will start sharing her cupcakes & ice creams with Harib too, but you know what, I don’t blame these ladies, zahir hai bhai itni nazuk si, kamzoor si jaan hai Harib, to khana thoosana to banta hai boss. I love how all these ladies have set a roster & work in peace & harmony where Aan attends Harib for breakfast, Shabnam takes care of lunch & snacks & then Sara takes care of his dinner, this man’s life is sorted! WAH! But I think since Sara has some competitiveness in her, she will now compete with Shabnam to see kaun Harib ke pass khana pehle pohachata hai, & honestly speaking, I am actually really very excited to see the race between Sara & Shabnam! I now get the reason why Harib has curbed the urge to get married, because he is being well taken care of so biwi ki kya zaroorat. He has a mother around him, he has an ex-girlfriend around him & he also has a future wife around him, to bas sara mamla set hai na bhai! I am sure Harib must’ve done some amazing deeds in life, because of which Allah blessed him with such amazing neighbors who only focus on feeding him, how sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!

Khabardaar kisi ne Harib aur Aan ko misunderstand kiya to, they are JUST FRIENDS alright, JUST CLOSEEE FRIENDS. Such close friends who are so comfortable with the idea of posing to be a ‘couple’ for a 7 year old *shivering with disgust*. Ohkay so, because of this episode, we learnt about all the things that Fatima loves to eat & Sara doesn’t, aur Masha Allah Harib ka pait to waisay hi khulla hua hai, so it doesn’t even matter what comes in front of him because he is like a chalta phirta food vacuum machine. While Aan was having a time of her life connecting with an Extra Small Sized Daadi Amman Fatima, Sara was eyeing Harib & thinking about all the luxuries she can bring back into her life if she somehow traps Harib again because he now has everything that she left him for.

Honestly speaking, on a very serious note, my appeal to the parents of the child actor playing the role of Fatima is that they should actually be more careful & cautious about all the dialogues that our not so intelligent dialogue writers write for her & make her say, like seriously, I am sure it is going to have such negative impact on her. I know the tone of my review is humorous but this is actually something that I am writing out of concern because the way Fatima said to Sara ‘aggar appko larkon ki wajah se yahan rehna hai etc’ was so not appropriate for a child of her age. I really think the parents of that child artist have to & should monitor & screen the dialogues that the directors make their daughter say because seriously, even if it is for a drama, it is so not cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, now that I have my public service message out of the way, let’s focus on other good things (coughing in sarcasm) that this episode offered. I liked the conversation Shabnam had with Harib, she is someone who actually lightens up the mood & I thank Hina Bayat for being a part of this drama, because she really brings in some sighs of relief when she shows up. We were also shown how much Khurram loves Aan but honestly, I am not going to take a guy seriously who chooses to sleep on a pink checkered bed-sheet which is actually designed for girls, so whatever!

Oh well, I actually applaud in sarcasm for Mona Haseeb for glorifying such a pathetic concept that a woman even after getting married & having a child can still be in love with her ex-boyfriend, wow! After all the Talaqs, Halalas, living with your Ex-boyfriend, trying to go back to your ex-husband after divorce (reference Mann Mayal), we now see these so-called writers glorifying such a hideous thing under the banner of LOVE! I know Mona Haseeb must be really proud of the character Harib that she conceived, that is why like a true mother to Harib she introduced all those ladies who take care of his appetite, but sorry Mona Haseeb, Harib is not such a catch that a woman even after getting married & having a child would be in love with him. There’s a limit to showing pathetic concepts & I think they really really need to draw a line now because all these things are getting out hand. I hate the fact that being a female herself, Mona Haseeb has made Harib a center of every woman’s universe, be it Shabnam, be it Aila, be it Aan & now Sara, she has made every girl who came into his life such a desperado who has no self-respect & no sense of right & wrong whatsoever. Alright, we know that Sara didn’t get the LOUUUUUUUU from her husband Faisal, that’s completely alright, but when a woman becomes a mother, her entire life, her personality, her priorities…every single thing changes, so I am not sure what made Mona Haseeb pen down such a hideous concept, character & conversation where she showed that Sara’s heart was still skipping a beat after seeing Harib. This is so inappropriate at so many levels, like it is disgusting!!!

I actually thought that after getting all the backlash from the entire Mannu/Sallahuddin/Jeena sharing a roof without any relation in Mann Mayal, Haseeb Hassan will be cautious but he proved that he still can touch new lows by showing such hideous concepts once again!!! The theme of this drama was still alright where they showed that a bechara got married to a girl who had some psychological issues but now to see all these ladies turning into desperadoes for him is absolutely sickening. Aur preview ka to poochain hi mat, looks like Harib’s frenemy Shehroz will come back & this time around he will be on team Aila because he will doubt Harib for being in touch with Sara all these years while he was in a relationship with her Aila & I can’t even begin to imagine how ugly the situation will get. I won’t be surprised if Aila & Shehroz will also move to that suburb, I think they should rename it as Harib Mohalla since everyone in that Mohalla seems to be related to Harib. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Sanam!!!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mrza.

Thank you Sara for saying ‘Ye kya ho raha hai Allah Miyan’…My thoughts EXACTLY!
