Kathputli Episode 15 16 17 Review – The Twists & The Turns!

Ohkay so, the last three episodes of Kathputli were interesting but I am not sure if that can be said about the twists & turns that they have brought in. I know in dramas like these, they do need some sort of chaos to extend the story further but yes, if after this scenario, the characters will emerge out to be stronger & better then I most certainly have no issues but if this is only being done to drag the drama then I am not sure what to feel about it. Now I am looking forward to see how each & everyone will bounce back from the tough times & pick up the pieces.

Mehru & Shiraz came across each other & that’s when Mehru’s life took a turn. Mehru & Ahad pretty much got comfortable with each other & they both actually started developing feelings for each other because Mehru saw how in the darkest of times, it was Ahad who without even knowing her, but only because she was his wife, took care of her. Similarly, Ahad saw that without expecting anything in return, Mehru not only ended up supporting him emotionally but she treated his father like hers & it is only because of her continuous efforts that his father came out of depression & is very much at a happy place with Ahad & Mehru around. Ahad fell in love because he got a closer look into Mehru’s personality & nature & he saw that she is a gem of a person, that is why he finally confessed his feelings & it was quite sweet. Even though this is exactly what Mehru wanted to hear & this is exactly what she feels about him too, she just missed an opportunity to confess her love for her husband Ahad & that was the first mistake that Mehru made.

Finally, Merhu came across Shiraz because Amna invited them for dinner & that’s when Shiraz became curious to find out the truth about everything related to Mehru & that’s when he started pestering her to meet him. I think that was another mistake that Mehru made because in stead of going out of the way to meet him, she could’ve just spoken to him on the phone & had explained everything to him. Even though I was dreading that now Shiraz will play the villain, I was pleasantly surprised to see him being understanding & respectful towards Mehru enough that he decided to not do anything that could cause a dent in her relationship with her husband.

Then came the time when Shiraz had to inform to Mehru that her mother had a heart attack. Yes, I do understand his concerns but I am not sure if I can say that Shiraz is a mature guy because he tackled the entire situation poorly. Also, Shiraz kept on implying that Mehru’s mother was about to die so she should meet her, like seriously? People have heart attacks & after a few months of recovery & by being cautious about their health, they pretty much lead a normal life! Anyways, Shiraz decided that he will play the hero & will reunite Mehru with her mother which once again was another mistake that he committed.

If Shiraz really really wanted to help Mehru, he could’ve spoken to Ahad first because now when Shiraz has met him & his father, he knows that they take care of Mehru & hold her close to their hearts. If Shiraz had introduced himself to Ahad as Mehru’s cousin & had told him in person that Mehru’s mother wasn’t doing well, I am sure even before Shiraz, it would’ve been Ahad who would’ve taken her to Lahore to see her mother. The third & the biggest mistake that Mehru committed was that she ended up lying to Ahad & not just any lie, she literally fabricated an entire story that too using Amna’s name, who’s not only her neighbor but is someone who has no hesitation in showing up at Mehru’s doorstep at any time of the day, so I am not sure what made Mehru think that like all the other days, Amna won’t go to Mehru’s house oblivious of her absence to meet her & might as well bump into Ahad only to find out that that Shiraz & Mehru were lying?

It did seem that Mehru learned her lesson a hard way but after everything that she has done, I am not sure if that can be said about her anymore because after sharing a space with Ahad, getting to know him personally & even knowing that he loves her, what made Mehru think that he won’t understand her feelings & wouldn’t allow her to meet her mother? Ahad’s father had a close call & that’s when Mehru did everything to help him recover properly, so why would’ve Ahad stopped her from meeting her mother? I can understand that Mehru was eager to meet her mother & she couldn’t think straight but at least Shiraz should’ve tackled the entire situation properly & ohkay, let’s say that they didn’t want to get Ahad involved, then at least Shiraz could’ve taken Amna into confidence because if he has promised that he will now respect Mehru’s decision, then what was there to hide? Another mistake that Shiraz made was leaving his mobile phone behind, which is like a Pandora box of Shiraz’s secrets & that’s when Amna found out everything about it. I know even though Mehru is not guilty of anything, but I see Amna & Ahad’s reactions justified because they are oblivious of everything & when someone is kept in the dark, that’s exactly how one reacts!

I feel all these twists & turns were only added to give Mr. & Mrs. Gohar Mumtaz some coverage in the drama because honestly speaking, without them, the entire drama was doing just so so so well. They could’ve just sticked to Mehru & Ahad’s relationship & some severe punishments for Ehtasham to realize that he committed a mistake, then he could’ve apologized to both Ahad & Mehru & they all would’ve lived a very happy life & that’s about it. I feel they not only added these twists & turns forcefully but didn’t do justice to them as well because another loophole in the direction that I feel was Sahir’s call to Ahad after spotting Mehru in Lahore with someone. Sahir said he ‘assumed’ that Mehru was with Ahad so why didn’t he approach them immediately? Like if anyone will see his best friend’s wife & assume that his best friend was there with his wife, then in stead of calling him to confirm, he will immediately walk up to them to meet them, isn’t it?

Anyways, on Ehtashaam’s front, with each passing episode, my detest for him gets a notch higher. It is so obvious that it isn’t Saira who is problematic, but he chose to put the blame on her to rub his bruised ego. Ehtashaam did everything in the name of religion but sadly, he doesn’t know that he has misinterpreted the religion to suit his needs, only so that the power & the authority that he has garnered over the period of time doesn’t slip out of his hands. I am sure Saira is the kind of a person who would’ve stood by his side but he chose to hurt her even more by lying to her about something she most certainly is not responsible for. I so hope Ehtashaam faces the severe consequences for all the lies that he has told till date & not only that, I would want everyone to never forgive him for playing with their lives & literally ruining them!

Overall, these episodes were really good but it’s just that the mistakes that Mehru made & the preview of the next episode that ticked me off. I so wish Mehru explains everything to Ahad before drifting apart even more. Also, they showed that Shiraz will be threatening Amna with divorce which I don’t see a reason for, like seriously, at one hand you’ve promised Mehru that you will not do anything to cause her distress & on the other, in stead of explaining things to your wife, you’e threatening her with divorce, so it is imperative that Amna will develop a strong sense of hatred for Mehru because she will blame her for the fact that it is because of Mehru that Shiraz is doing everything! I feel that the entire coverage that Shiraz & Amna are getting is unjustified. Anyways, the scene between Zeenat & Mehru was done nicely & it was quite emotional. I loved that Zeenat advised Mehru to never lie again but sadly, this is what Mehru has done & not sure how many lies she will keep on fabricating in order to hide the fact that she went to meet her mother that too with Shiraz. I hope she comes clean before it is too late. Let’s see what they have in store for us. The direction, the pace & the production value of this project is really really good. I also like the way all the actors have acted their characters out, they have kept things minimal & simple, but they strike a chord. Even though I have said it before, I will say it again that Sanam Chaudhry is one fine actress. She can literally carry an entire drama on her shoulders because of her phenomenal acting. I hope to see her in some super-hit drama serial because she is capable of pulling it off as a protagonist. Anyways, please share your thoughts about these last 3 episode of Kathputli.

Bin Roye Episode 2 Review – Simple Yet Appealing

This latest installment of Bin Roye took the story forward considerably. The relationship between all the characters has been very well established in the first two episodes. The chemistry between Mahira Khan and Hamayun Saeed makes their on screen couple a complete success and I am rooting for Irtiza and Saba already although I know only too well that they are not meant to be together. So far Mahira Khan is faultless as Saba. Saba’s character is such that it could have been annoying instead of cute and likeable but the way it has been portrayed definitely makes it very likeable. I must say that tonight’s episode did remind me of Haya in Alvida and how she had an imagined relationship with Haadi in her mind. The big difference is that Saba’s personality traits have been shown in a much more subtle manner and you don’t see her as a negative person.

br

Irtiza and Saba’s relationship has also been very well defined in these two episodes. Saba’s world revolves around Irtiza. Irtiza considers Saba her best friend and he cares for her deeply. Saman however is someone he has more in common with and he is attracted to her. There were quite a few scenes in tonight’s episode which showed how much they had in common and for now it looks like both of them are equally interested in each other. Irtiza started visiting more often only after he got to know Saman better and Saman asked him to go with them for the family trip because she enjoys his company. Saba’s reaction to Irtiza cancelling his plan of coming to Pakistan once again was shown in an impactful yet subtle way. Saba’s conversation with her friend reminded me of the conversation Haya once had with Farisa in which she asked her whether Haadi felt the same way about her. It is sad that an original script has a been-there-done-that feel to it because most of us have already watched a drama which was inspired from Bin Roye Ansoo, the novel. Also, I am still trying to figure out the age difference between Saman and Irtiza. Hamayun Saeed and Armeena Rana Khan do not have the same chemistry which Hamayun Saeed has with Mahira Khan. Also, Saman’s character so far is quite plain and her dialogues were somewhat short. I am waiting to find out more about her character in the upcoming episodes. As for Irtiza, so far he is also a nice yet a very simple character, he is definitely not Mohid!

br3

Saman’s mother was shown regretting her decision and hoping that her brother will give her daughter back to her. The conversation between her and her husband went to show that this was her decision but not one which was easy to make. Irtiza also mentioned that he saw her crying after she gave Saman to her brother which suggests that Irtiza was old enough to notice such things. The only two scenes in tonight’s episode which were somewhat weak were the ones in which Saba was writing a letter (why write a letter when you can send an email, talk on skype, viber or even whatsapp?) and also when Saba was talking to her friend in school, her voice was too loud and did not quite fit in. Also, there were many times when Hamayun Saeed’s make-up could have been much better.

br

So far what I like about this show is that the characters are simple yet appealing and they are not black and white. They are the kind of people we know and see around us every day. Some of the locations in tonight’s episode were beautiful. Nothing about this play is Over The Top even though the producers decided to add songs from the Bin Roye, the film but they have been added in such a way that it does not seem awkward. Right now Saba’s character is holding my interest more than any other. The preview of the next episode showed just how sure Saba is  that she is the one who will get married to Irtiza. She will most likely get a rude shock in the next episode.

How many of you watched this latest episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

YES, I married AGAIN! Why do people write ” how many times you gonna get married?”- Says Annie Khalid

0

The Pakistani rock star Annie Khalid who is  very well known singer who is even better known for being very straightforward. Annie has always proved herself to be a very strong headed women . After the failure of her first marriage she did not escaped from things rather revealed the reason behind her divorce.

Annie Khalid shares everything she wants to, lately Annie posted the following note on Instagram …

14581547_1449707011712971_2620176910456091494_n

“So I’m writing this post with tears in my eyes because I am sick and tired of the abuse I get on social media for my second marriage. YES I married AGAIN! Why do people write ” how many times you gonna get married” “kitni dafa shadi karo go” “maneater” “vulgar woman” “wahiyaat aurat” What sin have I committed? Our religion permits us to marry again after being divorced, our beautiful Hazrat Khadijah was married 3 times, her third marriage was to Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Who is better than her? Who is better than Our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH? NOBODY. What bullshit Pakistani culture we have where divorcee women are scandalised and stigmatised in our society. They become “black sheep” or “damaged goods”. At the time of the Sahaba, men would stand in line to marry divorced women because they knew of the immense reward it was in the eyes of God. But in our day & age we are instead ostracised and looked down upon. You men who comment under my posts have some shame, nobody wants their marriage to break, but if it does then what can you do? Would you be happier to see me alone and unhappy? Would that make you happy? What hurts the most is seeing women say horrible things too. I would expect girls to be more empathetic and understanding but how SAD that you also hurt me with your brutal comments. Remember, this could happen to your mother or your sister, this could even happen to YOU. I am sorry for this long post but I had to speak up not just for myself but for all the girls out there who have been divorced. Can I also add how I always read that it must have been My FAULT, something bad I must have done got me divorced. Why is the girl always blamed, WHY? Thank you to my husband Saad who married me knowing my past and not once brought it up or used it against me. Instead loves me unconditionally for who I am and not what I am. Ok I feel better now. Peace (Annie Khalid)”

Why don’t we live and let others live in peace too? Yes she is a celebrity, you can comment on the kind of music she makes, even you can give your views in which avatar she looks nice. But all the individuals who have negatively commented regarding her second marriage should think at least once that apart from being a public figure she is a human, with a heart and right to live her life according to her own rules.  Regarding Annie’s post she has described in complete detail that is she has gone for second marriage and it is nothing to be ashamed of  and she does not need haters around her anymore.

Previously Momina Mustehsan  was targeted and was given a title that she looks like a maid and now its Annie Khalid  publicly announcing that she is fed up of being bullied on social media. Majority of the individuals do not even think before putting down the harsh words in the comment section, It is not only one comment , rather it gives a free pass to other individuals to carry on the negative conversation. I hope and wish now every time we will comment, we will consider the effects on the other person,

Lastly I would say Annie you did the right thing by getting married again and yes you did an excellent job by posting this note, it will help individuals to think before making their very professional and perfect comment on the other person.

Thora Sa Aasman Episode 11 Review – Rakshi; The Talk of The Town!

0

Ohkay so, this episode of Thora Sa Aasman was quite interesting to watch. I am glad that this episode brought another chapter with it & everything was covered perfectly. All the tracks are being unfolded at a very decent pace with a lot of interesting happenings in each of the characters lives. I must say, there’s a simplicity with which the director approached this script & that is why, by not complicating things, the director made it easy for us to understand the journey of all the characters.

In this entire episode, Rakshi was the one who was being discussed & hated. Rakshi has taken everyone’s life by storm. While there’s only one man who is standing by her side, the rest of the people are suffering badly because of her. Muneeza grows a little suspicious of Rakshi because she hears about her from Shabana & when she confronts Mansoor, that’s when her fears get confirmed where Mansoor clearly tells her that no matter what happens, he won’t give up on Raksi because he needs her. Talha, Osama, Masood, Shabana, Muneeza, Roshaan, Safiya, Fareeda, each one of them feel that Mansoor is getting carried away & he is being wrong in his judgment. Each & everyone can’t really put a finger on what it is because of which Mansoor is so convinced to fight for the sake of Rakshi so much that is he is literally not worried an ounce about his family.

Haroon Kamal plays the cupid & he tells Rakshi that Mansoor loves him, while Mansoor on his own was still contemplating whether to confess or not because he wasn’t sure what Rakshi’s answer will be. Haroon Kamal is doing everything to tear Ambar’s family apart because it is his way of taking a revenge for the way she misbehaved with him because other than that, there’s no justification of Haroon’s involvement in this entire scenario. Despite hearing from everyone & despite getting ignored by Rakshi, Ambar still doesn’t grow suspicious of her friend because she can not conceive of the fact that her friend can betray her. Ambar thinks just by speaking to Rakshi & telling her to quit her job, she will make things right & she will be able to restore her family’s happiness but little did she know that both Mansoor & Rakshi were into each other & at this stage, there was absolutely no one who could part them.

The very first glimpse that Mansoor gets in Rakshi’s life if when he sees Zafar creating a scene in her house. That’s when Mansoor realizes that Rakshi has lived a tough life & even after getting so much of support from him & standing up on her feet, she is vulnerable & still not so secure. That is when Mansoor feels the urge to protect Rakshi, out of sympathy for her & may be out of his love for her. Mansoor takes everything in his hand because he promises to himself that he will do everything to give Rakshi the peace of mind that she deserves & that is why he goes out of the way to settle things with Zafar once & for all. I was actually quite surprised to see Saiqa’s indifferent attitude towards Mansoor’s proposal for Rakshi, it was like she had no objection about the fact that he was married, was double her age & had kids who were the same age as Rakshi. Just because Saiqa herself has lived a miserable life, she found it as an opportunity for Rakshi to shape up her life because she bagged a proposal of a man like Mansoor who was quite wealthy. They both get married & that’s when Rakshi learns about the lengths Mansoor can go to for her because he gifts her a house that she could only dream of!

Shahista Kamal on the other hand comes across Shaheer & she goes out of the way to create more such opportunities where she can see him. Shahista feels an affection towards Shaheer & may be it is because he reminds her of the son that she had to abandon when he was just born. Fatima is living a peaceful life with her children Shaheer, Saani & Samar. Samar gets an opportunity to model for a TV commercial where he meets Haroon Kamal’s daughter Nayab & I am sure things are going to get a lot more interesting.

Even though the director has done justice to all the characters, I feel the growth of Fatima’s character & the entire journey, with how much devotion & determination she brings herself & her kids to this stage & raise them to be such good human beings, has been heavily compromised upon. When I read the novel & fast forward to this point, only by reading I could see the difference in Fatima’s attitude, her mannerisms & her nature but I am not sure why Fatima in this drama seems like an after thought. All this while when I was waiting for her character to make an appearance again, I thought we’ll get to see a very humble, refined, a very decent & mature Fatima who would’ve made a name for herself because of her wisdom & who would’ve influenced the lives of her children in a very unique way, but when I see uncombed hair, annoyed expressions & a very swift dialogue delivery of Yasra Rizvi, I feel she is just the same Fatima who was kicked out of her mother’s home & she till date has not changed one bit. I know things are always different in novel & in the drama but if this would’ve been about a supporting character, I wouldn’t have paid heed to these intricacies that but this is about Fatima, an integral part of the novel & probably the main lead where at one point the entire story will revolve around her, so I think the director should’ve paid more attention to her growth & her maturity. I feel in stead of looking like their mother, Fatima looks like a very strict & disciplined elder sister of Shaheer, Saani & Samar & that’s about it.

I know these are two different projects & I didn’t follow the PTV version of Thora Sa Aasman but I do remember catching a few glimpses of Aliya Imam’s performance & the entire get up that she did to translate Fatima’s character on screen really made those glimpses so impactful that I still remember them clearly. So unfortunately, even if I don’t want to compare, I am forced to think that Yasra Rizvi had such a phenomenal performance in front of her to learn from & if she or even the director were having troubles in elaborating Fatima’s character, they could’ve easily taken some inspiration from Aliya Imam because her performance was far more stronger, in terms of acting & appearance & she literally did justice to Fatima, so much so that when I read the novel a couple of years ago, every single time I read Fatima’s scenes, I only had an image of Aliya Imam in my mind. I really hope now when Fatima’s character has finally made a reentry, the director shifts the focus from Mansoor/Haroon’s story to her side of the story because her journey was full of beautiful lessons that she would teach to her children, some very emotional moments that they as a close-knit family shared with each other, where they lived for each other & so many other beautiful things like these. Honestly speaking, I hate to say this but I feel Yasra Rizvi has ruined the charm of Fatima’s character because Umera Ahmed’s concept behind Fatima’s character was so beautiful, it was about a journey of a woman who didn’t have an outer beauty & she came from a very dark place, but due to her own wisdom & the motherly instincts, she grew into such a wonderful human being who was beautiful from the inside & was known for her beautiful nature. I wish, I so wish Yasra Rizvi & even the director had understood the essence of Fatima’s character & had worked harder to elaborate that on screen.

Overall, this episode was done really well with some very effortless performances. I like how all the actors don’t seem forceful with their acting & because of that they make it look like they have owned the characters assigned to them. Yes, at times, Ushna Shah does seems like a weakling but she has done a fairly decent job as Rakshi. I am sure things are going to get a lot more interesting so I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Thora Sa Aasman.

Laaj – Episode 10 – Bol Jahanzeb, Bol!

0

If only Zainab would stop daydreaming. Like seriously, stop! The opening scene of this episode made me think it may be a dream but the scene was so long that I soon ditched the thought and said bravo! Jahanzeb finally speaks! And what flowery words he actually utters! But no – it was just Zainab being Zainab again. Sigh. Bari Sahab tells Zainab how grateful and humbled she is that Zainab stepped up to save Jahanzeb’s life but that she will not hand Zainab over to Sikander and his clan and has something up her sleeve. The ‘something’ turns out to be Mannat’s baby – Sikander’s heir. Bari Sahab also temporarily transfers all of Zainab’s property in her own name and news of this is delivered to Sikander via our desi Charlie Chaplin.

We are ‘treated’ to more of Shahzeb’s Dear Diary conversations to Alisha in this episode. Alisha mein kuch nahin kar saka. Alisha I am helpless. Alisha today Bari Sahab scolded me. Uff! Shahzeb wants out and Alisha wants to begin a revolution – without actually moving from her home. It should seem frustrating but it is funny how everyone just gives Shahzeb the shut up call. He tries to talk Zainab into refusing the marriage to Dilawar and she throws him the ‘education taana’. Bari Sahab does the same time and again. Shahzeb wants to leave the village and Alisha wants him to stay put and make changes but did she not earlier ask him to leave and marry her and stay in the city? Ah, but the desire for justice burns strong in Alisha’s heart. Poor Shahzeb. Oh and cherry on the top – Bari Sahab has started to suspect that Sikander is using Shahzeb to bring her down. Itna pivotal role play kar he na lay Shahzeb!

pic1

So Bari Sahab offers Mannat’s child – Sikander’s grandchild as truce. I could not help feel for Mannat though. Although Bari Sahab claims to love her but I have still not come to terms with how she agreed to her marriage to Sajjad in the first place and now this. To separate a mother from her baby is nothing less than cruelty. And Bari Sahab being a mother should understand that! Dilawar has been fuming over Sikander’s half baked plans to avenge Sajjad’s death and is overjoyed to hear of an heir but more than an heir, Sikander craves the lands he feels are rightfully his. He and Dilawar do not see eye to eye over how to deal with Bari Sahab.

Bari Sahab is ruthless. We had established that. She loved her own fiercely. I had no doubt about that. But her confidence has grown since she has managed to sway the panchayet with calling off the wedding by offering Sikander his heir instead and she crosses the line by calling in the doctor to abort Mannat’s child – without Mannat knowing. The lengths this woman would go to in her hatred for Sikander is really beginning to amaze me. She does not want to end the feud and given that Dilawer is still thirsty for Jahanzeb’s blood and she has two grown sons who would be very easy and happy targets for already furious Sikander and Dilawer makes me wonder at Bari Sahab’s sanity, greed and ego. She wants Mannat to be rid of her baby and desires to have her married – again. A favorite in our dramas is the statement shaadi gudda guddi ka khail nahin (granted Sajjad was no gudda) but Bari Sahab is surely treating Mannat as a doll to do with as she pleases!

pic2

It is intriguing watching how Bari Sahab’s mind is working, churning out one plan after the other without any regard for anyone’s opinion. I wish we were shown the scene when Dilawar and his family are told about Mannat’s pregnancy. Who tells them and how? I also really wish Jahanzeb would speak up – like yesterday! What was with the vow he made in his prison cell? To declare his love to Zainab once he is released. Why will he not say anything – to Zainab, to Bari Sahab?! The preview for next week shows Bari Sahab arranging a match between Zainab and Shahzeb – I hope someone, anyone will speak up and stop that from happening but I have no expectations from anyone from the haveli. Maybe Alisha? Let’s see.

The scene between Jahanzeb and Zainab at the beginning of the episode was nicely done, both acting wise and dialogues, but ruined when it turned out to be nothing more than a daydream. It is interesting how Bari Sahab being a woman has no qualms in stating what she wants but expects the women of the younger generation to be mutely obedient. Will Zainab be engaged / married to Shahzeb or will Alisha save the day? Would love to hear your thoughts.

10 Reasons Why Pakistani Dramas are Better than Indian Dramas

Pakistani television channels air Indian dramas nowadays and there are many Indian drama channels which are watched in many houses in Pakistan. Similarly, Pakistani dramas are also seen in India. Both these countries invest time, energy and a lot of money in making these dramas but the outcome on both sides of the border is not the same. It can be safely stated that Pakistani dramas are way ahead of the game because of number of reasons.

The major reason why Pakistani dramas are better than Indian dramas is that Pakistani dramas are short and to the point. The script in Pakistani dramas is coherent and gripping. Secondly, while most of Indian dramas deal with saas bahu issues, Pakistani writers try to experiment. There are a lot of dramas which are issue-based. Another very important reason is that Pakistani dramas are realistic because of which people can relate to the characters and the happenings. Pakistani writers and directors do not go overboard.

There is a very good reason why Pakistani dramas are liked by people all around the globe.

Big Boss 10 on ARY Digital

Indian content comprising of films, dramas, music, reality shows, dance/singing competition is widely popular in Pakistan. To cash in the popularity of Indian content even the leading entertainment channels of Pakistan also  buy and air Indian content.

With regards to television, in India only one channel Zee Zindagi started  airing Pakistani content from 2013. However following the recent tense situation between India and Pakistan, now this channel has declared a ban on all Pakistani content. Like this channel, other showbiz associations like film producer association have also announced a ban on casting of any Pakistani artist in a Indian film. In response to this Pakistan cinema owners and film distributor also announced to stop the screening of indian films until normalcy returns in the two countries.

However when it comes to television Indian content is very much there on the Pakistani channels without any restriction. Entertainment channels like Geo Kahani, Aaj Entertainment, Filmazia, Express Entertainment, Times,  ARY Zindagi, APlus, ATV, Play Entertainment, TV One are airing Indian content like before. Unlike India where only one channel from 2013 aired Pakistani content, in Pakistan Indian content on television is airing from past 13 – 14 years. Channels like Geo Kahani air almost round the clock Indian dramas.

Perhaps it is the popularity of Indian content which compels the leading entertainment channels to also air it. So the leading channels Geo Tv, ARY Digital and Hum Tv also air mostly consisting of films and award shows.

Every year ARY Digital airs Indian reality show Big Boss. Following the same tradition this year the season 10 of this show is coming once again on ARY Digital.

Here is the first promo of this show from ARY Digital

‘Reasons Behind Fawad Khan’s decreased fan following’

Fawad Khan, a renowned model, singer and an actor previously living in the hearts of many, no longer enjoys the same status in Pakistan. He has always been very choosy when it comes to Pakistani dramas and all we have seen are his quality TV shows for which he has been given due credit and love by his Pakistani fans. Some of his shows like Numm and Ashk were not up to the mark but were still appreciated by some of his die heart fans. But his decreasing popularity graph is popping out many questions in our minds. The ‘Humsafar’ guy who was a crush of every girl next door is no longer missed on screen even by his die heart fans.
Here are few reasons for that:

Abracadabra! Make Fawad disappear!

And here you go. Fawad is no more a part of your TV screens. I am not talking about ads because ads are not something your fans look forward to. Imran Abbas went to India, did his work and came back. Ok fine! But guess what our hero Fawad practiced the phrase ‘ghar ka rasta bhool jana’ and never came back. After the famous ‘Humsafar’, he did Zindagi Gulzaar Hai and Numm and after that he went to Bollywood. ‘Art has no boundaries’ is a debatable issue and somehow it’s true to some extent but does expanding the boundary exclude your own region? No, not at all.
POOF!

Ary Digital Bringing an Excellent Drama Serial “Khuda Mera Bhi Hai

0

For the audience which was looking for another powerful drama like Udaari here comes another drama “Khuda Mera Bhi Hai” with a very unique and bold topic of transgender. The drama will be aired on Ary Digital. The drama has a very interesting plot and the teaser of the drama does not allow you to move without finishing it. The drama is written by Asma Nabeel and directed by Shahid Shafat. The play is produced by Sana Shahnawaz.

Basically it is a story of a married couple, Ayesha Khan and Jibran Syed who give birth to a transgender baby. It is worth appreciation that ARY Digital is delivering a new topic, which is truly worth discussion. For a couple the best moment in life when they are blessed with a baby but what happens when their child is a hermaphrodite? And how the society treats them.

The Promos show the typical mindset of our society when Ayesha Khan’s monther- in-Law Isra Ghazal shouted, ‘hamari bahu ne hijra paida kiya hai!’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxaixGDcf-k
Not confirmed but sources reveal that Pakistani actor Furqan Qureshi will be playing the part of Jibran and Ayesha’s transgender son. Hira Tareen, Saba Hameed and Aly Khan will also be seen in the upcoming drama.

Sang e Marmar Episode 06 Review – Massive Props to The Entire Team of SeMM!

Honestly, I don’t remember the last time I saw such riveting performances. I don’t remember watching an episode that kept my eyes glued to the screen the entire time & I also don’t remember watching an acting that stirred the emotions so convincingly that it overwhelmed me. Honestly speaking, I don’t think I have enough words that will do justice to the effort, the hard-work & the flawlessness with which the entire team of Sang e Marmar has brought this drama in front of us. Even though I know it is not going to be enough, but all I can say is, thank you team Sang e Marmar for setting the bar so high & for giving us such a drama that took us into another world & making it seem so real as if we were experiencing everything firsthand. Thank you so so so so much once again!

It is not a secret anymore that what happened to Gohar was because of his own faults & it was also a reward that Gulistan got for all his wrongdoings that he has committed so far. In just a spur of a moment, Gulistan Khan got the verdict based on the sorrows & the defeats his victims must have faced because of him, but sad is Gulistan Khan still didn’t learn his lesson. Not even for a second Gulistan reflected on why he lived to see such a day in life where he will have to bury his son with his own hands & witness him lying in the grave. Gulistan Khan is someone who is so determined about the fact that everything he has done till date has not affected people gravely & this is the main reason why he was deprived of self realization, even after experiencing Gohar’s death.

This is probably the first time Torah experienced what it feels like when you get to see the destiny’s spin on the one you hate & the one who took away your mother from you. Just a minute expression of Torah where he looks at the sky & blinks his eye was enough to show that deep down he was grateful for Gulistan’s suffering as it was long due & he was thanking The Almighty for His decision. Torah has been such a subtle character but I must say, people around him must’ve always looked down on him because of the color of his skin & because of his mother’s ethnicity, but he is the most intelligent man in that entire clan because he doesn’t let his emotions control him, rather he is the one who knows how to put his emotions to good use. Everyone around him like Gulistan, Safiullah, Gohar even his wife Sherbano, they all run high on emotions but the one who has a strong hold on himself, his anger & his vengeance is Torah & that sets him apart from all of them & makes him a very intelligent man. Torah has played his cards really really well because even though he was the one who instigated everything, he ended up being the first one to deliver the news of Gohar’s death to Gulistan to assure him that he was just as shocked & grief stricken as Gulistan must be.

Even though I do know that Gulistan has committed far too many sins, but I actually felt sympathy, not for him but for his entire family especially his wife because she was innocent & she didn’t do anything to go through such a pain in her life. Gulistan’s wife has to be the most harmless woman but she got tangled up between the wrongdoings of her husband & ended up losing her son. Gulistan never allowed his wife to have a control on their children, that is why his children have become a reflection of their father. The only child who turned out to be a reflection of his mother is Aurang & that probably is because she spent more time with him & Gulistan had no say in his upbringing. What made me feel bad for Gulistan was that while his wife was complaining that he didn’t allow her to see Gohar’s face which actually made me feel that he was too cruel for not understanding a mother’s feelings, Gulistan let us know that had his reasons & he didn’t allow that to happen because he knew that she wouldn’t be able to see her son in that condition. The way he described what Gohar looked like was actually heart-wrenching because all of a sudden my mind shifted to the mother who had to listen to the gruesome details that will haunt her for the rest of her life. That entire scene was so so so emotional & I must say, Saniya Saeed channeled the sufferings of a mother who just lost her son impeccably.

Saif ur Rehman’s wife is someone who knows how to make the most of the situation. She knew that if Saif ur Rehman will spot Shireen in the house, he will never trust her again & he will blame her for falsely accusing his sister, that is why, she made sure that when Saif ur Rehman returns, he doesn’t get to meet Shireen & Shireen doesn’t get to tell Saif ur Rehman that she wasn’t the one who went to meet Gohar. Just a single move of Saif ur Rehman’s wife was enough for her to earn her a clean slate so that she can rewrite everything to suit her needs. She is trying hard to get rid of Shireen because she hates the fact that Saif ur Rehman not only loves his sister but trusts her on top of that as well. Even though the plan that she presented in front of Saif ur Rehman was the best option for the entire family but what she did with Shireen was unforgivable. Shireen ended up taking the blame for Durkhane’s mistake because deep down she blames herself for everything that happened, but also she wants to protect her friend as Shireen saw that without doing anything, her name was being dragged, so she didn’t bother trying to clear her name as she knew no one would believe a word that she will say in her defense!

Gulistan Khan’s ego is hurt & now he is going to do everything to avenge Gohar’s death. In stead of taking this as a lesson & as an eye-opening experience to realize that he must be making some mistakes, he already prepared himself as he knows he has a battle to fight. Saif ur Rehman proposed a piece of land to settle everything but I am sure Gulistan will add a few more things to the bargain. I loved the way Torah reminded Gulistan of how he insulted Saif ur Rehman’s father. The flashback scene was done so well because it showed how Gulistan Khan got a high by putting people down & how he judged them based on their profession & their wealth. It also showed how Torah has worked all these years to earn Gulistan Khan’s trust because now when he is playing his game, Gulistan Khan can’t even question Torah’s intentions.

This episode was heart-wrenching while still being beautiful because it was beautifully directed & filled with beautiful performances from each & every single actor. Saife Hassan as a director has elevated the level of this intelligently written script & he has extracted the best performances out of all the actors. While watching this episode, I couldn’t stop noticing the attention to detail which is always a part of the director’s job. (kennedyandperkins.com) The way Gulistan ran bare-footed after hearing about Gohar’s death went to show the helplessness of a father. Noman Ejaz flawlessly elaborated what a father goes through when he is forced to face the worst nightmare of any parent. The way Aurang’s mother cried after meeting Aurang went to show the bond they both share & it also shed a light on the fact that she knew it was only this son of hers who would understand her & who would console her just like no other. The way Gullalai turned her face away when Aurang entered the room was enough to show how these women are trained to keep a low profile. I must say that entire scene was on some other level & the performance of Saniya Saeed was so convincing that unconsciously I shed a tear or two. It shows what a powerful actor can do, that despite knowing that it was a guy like Gohar who died, Saniya Saeed made us forget about everything & forced us to only feel the pain of a mother who loves her child without any limits. The way Torah’s face was gleaming with satisfaction & the way he was trying hard to let Gulistan know that he is in solidarity with him was depicted with perfection by Paras Masroor.

Noman Ejaz, Uzma Hassan, Tipu Sharif, Mikaal Zulfikar, Kubra Khan, Omair Rana, the actress playing the role of Maami, each & everyone gave their 100% & made every reaction seem so real & heartfelt but the one that in my opinion stole the show in this episode after Saniya Saeed’s performance is Kaif Ghaznavi, my my, I absolutely loved her acting & I love the way she has added so many shades to her character. From persuading Shireen & Durkhane that that she was their well-wisher, to making her Maami happy, to convincing Saif ur Rehman that she only wanted what’s best for him & her & then not faltering every-time she was about to get exposed for playing a game, Kaif Ghaznavi showed that she had a tight grip on her character & she not only owned it but nailed it as well. To make the viewers hate & still understand a thought process of a character is a tough job & Kaif Ghaznavi phenomenally achieved that with her flawless acting. This entire episode was filled with power-packed performances & I felt it ended a bit too quickly. I can’t wait for the next episode already. I am so glad I got a chance to view & review a drama like this. Please share your thoughts about this beautiful & emotional episode of Sang e Marmar.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Intezaar – Episode 18 – Tu Ki Jaanay….Yes, Seriously I Don’t!

0

Yaaar – no, no, no, no – this play of events although slightly predictable from last week’s episode, did not work for me. I was finding it a bit difficult relating to all the characters and now it seems to be a hopeless task! Saba – mentally unstable, suffering from childhood trauma I see, but what is with these random lapses in her mental understanding of the world? Yes, she has moments when she has no control over her emotions and actions and her past comes to haunt her but she did not seem to lack a basic understanding of life. Then why this constant wonder of what marriage is, and how she can not simply ‘donate’ her husband. If she is meant to be portraying the image of a girl who is simple, then she falls flat because she seems to carry herself well most of the time and can converse with family members and take care of Sameer then this totally going off the track randomly makes no sense to me.

pic1

Maami makes an appearance in this episode as she pays a visit to see how her daughter is faring. Her horror and shock and then her conversation later with Shariq’s mother gives us an insight into how she is viewing the situation and from her point of view it does look quite awful. Shariq, according to Maami, married Saba so that he may appear noble in front of everyone and brought her to his home only to have her drugged and cast aside while he lives a happily married life with Zoya. The sleep injection – did Saba really have one or did Phuppo make that up? But then – Maami was the one who cajoled, emotionally pressurized and then literally jumped the nikkah on Shariq. Then again – Shariq’s mother refused to listen to Shariq’s objections and demanded he agree to marrying Saba. So really, nobody makes any sense to me. Shariq’s mother suddenly feels this strong urge to see her son happy and lets him marry Zoya – why could she not have felt that urge before she forced him to marry Saba? And where does she get off justifying his marriage to Maami? Where does Shariq get off being so righteous? Why oh why did they have to listen to that wretched psychiatrist and not get a second opinion? And if they listened to her, then why not have her explain a bit what she meant by marriage curing Saba for surely a nikkah nama and a roof to live under while she plays with her husband’s other wife’s kid was not in the prescription? For that is really ALL the connection Shariq has with Saba.

Which then brings me to Saba. Her jealousy is too intense too soon. Seconds ago she is thrilled to have ‘donated’ her husband and now her mother’s speech brings back memories of older speeches given by Maami and the scene where Saba tries on Zoya’s clothes and lipstick was nothing less than psychotic. So a character that is introduced as someone suffering from the trauma of childhood abuse is then thrown into a marriage which starts with being confined in a room with the one man she trusted besides her father and then being slapped by him. Then she is meant to feel emotions such as possessiveness and jealousy and learn the art of pleasing her husband – I mean, writing it all down is giving me an anxiety attack what in the world were the writer, the director, the cast thinking?! Even if all that was meant to be how this story flows, I still find it hard to relate to how Saba has done this complete shift in emotions and is now insanely jealous of Zoya.

pic2

Oh but nahin, let’s not forget Zoya. Yeh sub meri wajah se ho raha hai – no shit! Excuse my language but really? Err, yes – Saba’s mother is angry because umm, you married her daughter’s husband. Seems pretty obvious to me! Never has a female lead seemed as bland and unlikable as Zoya has been. If there is one character in this play that has minded his own business, not given anyone any trouble even though he has been blamed to be difficult – is Sameer. Drama kahan se kahan chala gaya, he has remained consistently quiet in that blanket, not needing anything, not demanding anything.

At one point during this episode I almost contemplated to stop reviewing this play and given that it appears very few of us are even watching it and those that are do it in a state of stupor/disbelief/ bewilderment – kindly share your thoughts and let me know if you do need me to continue these reviews or I may be relieved :)

Mein Sitara Episode 27 Review – New Challenges, New Prospects

What I loved about this episode of Mein Sitara was that although the latest developments in the story focused on the clash of ideas between Sitara and Falak but there was genuine love and concern for each other on both sides. Falak grew up to be a strong girl who knows exactly what she wants from life. Sitara tried to persuade her but she was not willing to give in. All the scenes between Sitara and Falak were beautifully directed and written. Although Anum Fayyaz wasn’t the perfect choice for playing this role but she definitely made it work. This episode also showed how Sitara had started taking drugs and the role Falak played in making her quit drugs. The conversations between Sitara and Tipu gave the viewers an insight into Falak’s personality. Tipu’s character has been very positive throughout this play and unlike many other dramas in which the heroine fights her wars alone without anyone by her side, Sitara had Tipu by her side right from the time her troubles started. Although Tipu has been able to do very little for Sitara practically but he was always been there to lend an ear and most importantly to guide her in the right direction. The relationship between these two friends whose friendship stood the test of time has been a very important part of this drama.

Saba Qamar’s overall look in this episode was picture perfect and her performance as usual was mind blowing. The way the director showed how Falak’s wish to become a star effected Sitara was beyond impressive. All the flashback scenes coupled with Saba Qamar’s expressions and body language made it quite clear that Sitara’s worst nightmare had just come true! After going into depression and resorting to drugs Sitara decided to reason out with Falak. Sitara’s feelings were very relatable because it is the first instinct of a mother to keep their child away from something they had a bad experience with, no matter what it is. Sitara in particular was always shown as a mother who kept her daughter away from her because she did not want her own life to effect Falak therefore this was a huge setback for her.

The story in this episode took a new turn and just like always Sitara will once again bounce back in the upcoming episode. The preview of the next episode showed Sitara finally giving in to Falak’s wishes. It also showed Falak’s father watching her perform and he will probably meet her by chance in the upcoming episode. This episode ended too quickly and it left me wanting more of Mein Sitara! This drama has always focused on Sitara’s journey even though it had quite a few notable supporting characters to its credit. Everything that happens around Sitara is in some way associated with her or it impacts Sitara’s journey in some way or the other. Mein Sitara has always surprised me in many ways and just like most of Faiza Iftikhar’s dramas it has always been unpredictable.

Any predictions about what is going to happen next? Will Falak manage to achieve what her mother could not? How many of you are looking forward to an encounter between Illyas Khawaja and Falak? Do share your thoughts about it.

Karan Johar Chooses Fawad Khan over Ranbir Kapoor!

0

It seem that Karan Johar is Fawad Khan’s biggest fan. The two became friends when Fawad did the movie Kapoor and Sons and further things got better when Fawad did Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. In an interview with Neha Dhupia , when  Karan was presented with a choice between Ranbir Kapoor and Fawad, the filmmaker chose Fawad.

Karan Said, “I am going to go with Fawad because he’s the new novelty and Ranbir knows I am going to go with Fawad, I think subjectively when it comes to Fawad.”

Recently Karan got into trouble when he made the comment regarding Banning of Pakistani stars that banning Pakistani artistes was not the solution to the India-Pakistan conundrum. Following this, Indian singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya termed him Mrs Karan Johar Khan on Twitter over his love for the Pakistani star. The way Indian artists are reacting to each other is really annoying.

Ali Gul Pir and SomeWhatSuper Collaborate For a Song Modi Teri M**

0

The India-Pak tension is at extreme and the celebrities cross the border are commenting on the situation. In this entire situation Ali Gul Pir has decided to make his come back with a song titled Modi Teri M**.

The song will be released on Sunday and in the song Pir  will be commenting on the friction between India and Pakistan. The Waderai Ka Beta singer has collaborated with Lahore-based electronic music band SomeWhatSuper.

According to sources Ali Pir said “I think whatever is going on is not a Pakistan-India issue but rather, it has more to do with Modi’s mindset. And then, there are people like Anupam Kher and Adnan Sami who are supporting his stance. The song mentions all of them” .

Regarding how the song will be perceived Pir said “I was constantly concerned about that. I made my friends listen to it and they said it didn’t make them angry towards India but rather empowered them in a way that they wanted to make peace and not war. It’s a satire but it doesn’t promote violence or hatred. I just thought Indian celebrities have been vocal about the situation and here we are, doing nothing. As an artist, all I can do is channel out my anger through music in a positive way.”

While the military deals with matters on the borders and famous personalities bash each other, Pir has taken a better alternative.

“With this song, I am challenging Modi to a rap battle. We have come up with it and now in response, they can release another song,” explained the musician. “The idea is not to make war. Instead, let us rap-battle it out.”

According to Pir the song is all about peace and he also wants the song to serve as a dance number as well.

Dumpukht- Atish-e-Ishq Episode 13- It’s time for the wedding

The best thing about this drama is it keeps you guessing. Seeing Habibullah’s reaction, I was pretty sure the news of Bibi’s pregnancy was an inconvenience. However, Habibullah had no qualms sharing the news which made Bibi ecstatic beyond words. For a moment there, Habibullah was contemplating calling off his khalifa but Wali didn’t take orders and convinced his Peer that everything will work out. It was heart -wrenching to see Wali bully Meher Nigar into silence by threatening to have Bilal imprisoned.

Bibi rushed to call Kulsoom as she was convinced that Kulchu’s prayers worked her miracle. Kulsoom narrated Bilal’s absence which had everyone in the household in a frenzy. I really liked Kulchu’s expressions of confusion and fear yet aside from that, she was also sad to leave her family behind. While her father exhibits genuine concern, I found it odd that Tahira had a change of heart spotting Kulchu in her bridal outfit. I would have liked to see her transition from the evil queen gradually to make it realistic but this sudden bout of emotions seemed forced. I loved Nimmo’s reaction- aaj aapko Kalchu pe itna pyar kyun araha hai jaise logon ko kisi ke marney pe ata hai... did Nimmo just predict Kulchu’s future? A life without Billu is not a life that she envisioned but it’s only going to get worse from here on.

Khalifa Sahab seems to have the perfect solution- Jab tak Bilal apney chillay se bahar nahin nikalta, Kulsoom Bibi apney Peer Habibullah ke nikah mein rahein gein… Bibi was furious to hear that Wali went against her wishes directly to Kulchu’s home. Little does Bibi know what’s brewing in the background. Wali reported that Billu had a dream that he was to recite a powerful wazifa- one bestowed on him by Bibi’s father. This was the story that explained Bilal’s disappearance but Wali also knew that Kulchu’s family is highly superstitious and the very mention of Peer will ensure their submission. Haroon is confident that this is in the family’s best interest and Kulchu’s father had to bow down in agreement.

I still don’t see how Wali will manage to pull this off in Bibi’s presence. How will Habibullah convince Bibi he’s only doing a random act of kindness by having Kulsoom in his nikah? Bibi seemed livid and voiced her distrust over Wali so I’m curious how the tables will turn. I have to say loved the outfits that everyone was wearing on the mehendi day and rukhsati. I liked seeing Haroon sneaking a peak at his love interest Sadaf. As always, Nimmo was an absolute delight and has the best dialogues. I missed Bilal in this episode and hope he finds a way home. I can’t begin to imagine how he’ll react once he finds out he was being set up all along to pave the way for Peer Sayeein’s happy ending. What sort of life awaits Kulchu? Will she go through with this nikah? Is this the end of her love story?

I can’t wait to see what transpires next week. It’s going to be an exciting episode for sure. So far, Dumpukht has been consistent in delivering week after week with plenty of flavours just like the title. Let’s hope it stays that way.
