Pakistan Idol 2014 – Do We Already Have a Clear Winner?

0

Reality TV shows have taken the world of entertainment by storm and Pakistan, of course is no different. TV audience probably like the REAL dramas better than the scripted ones! The lifelike situations, living and breathing participants and real challenges serve as a better medium of catharsis for audience as compared to the contrived and plotted stories.

19 Entertainment’s internationally acclaimed music reality TV show, Pakistan Idol finally made its way to Pakistan and is all the rage these days, but unfortunately not for all the good reasons. The first controversy was regarding the selection of the judges for the show, apparently Bushra, Hadiqa and Ali were not the perfect threesome to judge the singing skills and potentials of youngsters at such a big platform, according to the social media polls and forum discussions, Sajad Ali, Abida Parveen and Shafqat Amanat Ali would have been a better choice! Cherry on the top is the obnoxious and discouraging attitude of judges; always taking pleasure in mocking young contestants who came on the forum with big dreams and high ambitions.

1

In spite of all that not-so-friendly attitude of Pakistan Idol’s juges, audience criticism and all contervorsies, the mega music reality show is successfully maintaining its popularity among masses. People actually take out time from their busy life schedules to sit back and watch the episode with family, cheer the contestants and enjoy the over all feel and enthusiasm of the competition. Not only that, by now, audience have picked up their cult favourite contestants too for supporting and voting. Seeing their favourite participant getting good comments make their day and eliminations make them gloomy, this is the beauty of reality shows, you can actually relate to them. With all this stuff going on, I have a feeling we have two CLEAR winners of Pakistan Idol already before the grand finale and any official announcements!

2

Maria Meer is one of those not-so-glamorous contestants who were rejected by the judges during the auditions only to emerge as the new sensation of Pakistani music before even the official commencement of Pakistan Idol. Public that was already disappointed and mad at judges for bashing talented singers, supported Maria whole heatedly through social media hence her first song Naina Lage with Amanat Ali was an instant hit.

And the story of success doesn’t end here rather it’s just the beginning! In addition to the constant love and support of public, Maria Meer is also receiving some worth mentioning media fame lately. Maria Meer gave her first live TV appearance on Express Entertainment’s Morning Show, followed by Good Morning Pakistan of ARY Digital where she was given a makeup over by the famous Aliyah Tipu.

3

There is a long way for Pakistan Idol to go before announcing its first official winner but Maria Meer has certainly nailed it already. They say, success comes to those who never give up and Maria Meer has proved it already!

Amanat Ali – the one who promoted Maria Ali through his song Naina Lage is also getting all fame and real celebrity status these days. Seems like reality shows have a thing for Ali; first Sa Re Ga and now Pakistan Idol (without even participating) brought him all the popularity and fortune that unfortunately his own album Kohram couldn’t bring! Amanat Ali is now hosting and judging the Sindh Festival Talent Hunt show Voice of Pakistan that aims to promote talent without insulting them. Well played Ali!

Are YOU guys following Pakistan Idol? What do you think about Maria Meer and Amanat Ali, a fame well justified?

Have we evolved for the worse?

0

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against changing with the times. I understand only too well the importance of adapting to a changing environment. But have we evolved to the extent that’s causing us more harm than good?

Personally, I like happy endings. I love romance, a bit of drama plus a tinge of comedy. But everything doesn’t need to be broadcast on our tv screens. Something’s are better left to our imagination and there is a certain amount of allure when everything isn’t spelt out in BIG BOLD LETTERS.

I’ve grown up in a fairly liberal environment but that said, my parents were big on respect. There were plenty of do’s and don’t’s and over the years I’ve come to realize how essential these are to shaping up character.

Back in the 80s and 90s, drama serials had strong messages minus the need for the unnecessary intimacy. You would never see a scene where a couple is sitting on the bed let alone lying side by side. Yes, we are all sensible enough to know couples sleep together but there’s no real need for the visual. Holding hands, getting cozy, close proximity is on the rise. We’re not far from the days when our tv screens will show a couple kissing!

Maybe it’s because we hail from a society that’s rich in tradition, but I truly hope we can hold on to our traditions and not transform ourselves and lose sight of who we are. There are things we can comprehend without the need for exhibitionism.

Aren’t we seeing too much of coziness/ awkward moments lately? I for one, would really like it if our writers and directors would exercise a little caution and use some restraint. There’s no dearth of good stories and certainly no shortage of talent either. Why can’t we go back to the era of classics that still remain close to our hearts and look up to the artists rather than raising eyebrows on their comfort levels.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you like the direction where our dramas are headed or do you look back at the old times and wish for its revival?

Have a lovely weekend.

Veena Enjoying her Honeymoon in US.. :)

0

Our controversial Queen is back from Umrah and she is enjoying her honeymoon in US with her husband these days. The thing that made me ponder upon was that why the hell she claimed that she will never leave hijaab when she didnot bother about that. Not just now, I  found Veena contradicting her own statements many times.

Like just a couple of weeks before her wedding, she was asked, by Morning show Host (Hira), about her marriage and she came up with the answer that she has no plans of getting married till 2015. And after a couple of weeks,we came to know about her Nikah.

Anyhow, enjoy the photos and short interview :

Funniest Memes I Came Across!

0

It’s been around 2 – 3 years now that the internet humour in Pakistan has taken a face of memes. I think it’s the best way to say what you feel like creatively. Some of the pages have shared with us some really hilarious memes & for this I give a special mention to two Facebook pages that outdone all the others when it came to memes. I am sure Comics by Arsalan is a well known page to all the Facebook users by now. Run by an artist named Arsalan who has worked on this amazing ‘Burkha Avenger’ project as well, I must say he comes up with some really original ideas & turns them into amazing memes. What I love about his comics the most is the originality & his sense of humour.

The other page which ruled back in 2012 where all the users came up with their self-made memes was ‘The Sarri-alist Movement’. These two are my favorite Facebook pages & I thought just for a change I’d share some of the funniest meme’s that I came across on these pages. You all must check Comics by Arsalan on Facebook as well for some real & to the point humour.

So here’re some memes from Comics By Arsalan that I found the funniest:

Ali Zafar soaring high!

0

Ali Zafar is the singer turned actor who has reached the heights of success in a very short time. His pure masculine voice has a certain charm that makes his voice stand out from the rest. His singer career made him popular, but his acting career made him a star. He started his singing career with the song Jugnuon Se Bhar Le Aanchal for the Pakistani movie Shararat, but he made his mark with his first single Channo from his first album Huqa Pani that sold over five million copies worldwide.

Ali Zafar’s first experience in acting was even before he started singing; he has acted in Pakistani shows like Kanch Ke Par and Kollege Jeans. The turning point of his career which made him a renowned personality worldwide was through his debut in B-Town. Many Pakistani actors have gone to Bollywood to make their mark, but have returned disappointed. But Ali Zafar’s luck has been with him throughout as he has had opportunity to work with the biggest banners in B-Town.

His first Bollywood movie was ‘Tere Bin Laden’, which was moderately successful at the box office, and for which he was nominated for Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. In 2011, Ali Zafar appeared as a guest in Yash Raj’s Luv Ka The End, and later on he was seen in the romantic comedy Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. The movie had names like Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif in the cast and was declared a commercial success. Ali Zafar also won Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow – Male in 2012. Ali Zafar has also starred in other commercially successful films like London, Paris, New York and Chashme Baddoor.

ts

Ali Zafar will next be seen in another romantic comedy ‘Total Siyappa’ opposite Yami Gautam. The cast also includes names like Anupam Kher and Kiron Kher and is slated to release on 7th March, 2014. The story revolves around a series of unfortunate events that befall a good-hearted but hapless Pakistani boy Aman (Ali Zafar) while visiting his girlfriend Asha’s (Yami Gautam) parents, leading to some of the funniest, chaotic and outrageous situations. The promo has been released and by the looks of it, he has another commercial success in his hands.

photo 1(20)

He was also recently seen performing on the 20th Annual Life OK Screen Awards on his song ‘Palat Meri Jaan’ from his movie Total Siyappa which is a huge accomplishment in itself. He is also currently seen sporting his Johnny Depp inspired look for his upcoming movie ‘Kill Dill’ which has renowned names like Govinda, Rani Mukerji, Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra in the cast, and will be produced under Yash Raj’s banner. The movie will release by the end of 2014. Another news making rounds is that Ali Zafar will also be seen in the fourth installment of the movie Golmaal. The list does not end here though;  Ali will also be a part of the sequel of Tere Bin Laden.

photo 2(18)

The best part about Ali is that he might be busy with his Bollywood movies, but he also takes out time for his own country. He makes appearance in interviews and also at events whenever he is in Pakistan. Recently, he performed an exclusive concert for Hum TV for Valentine’s Day which will be shown on Hum TV on 14th February. He does not get time to release single albums anymore, but he does fulfill his passion for music by singing tracks for his Bollywood movies.

Well, there is no doubt that Ali Zafar is soaring high nowadays, and is at the peak of his career. He definitely makes us all proud with his hard work and accomplishments. May his luck always be by his side, and he reaches even greater heights!

Pakistan Idol Week 10 – Gala Round 01!

0

So finally Gala round is here & the real competition has begun. I would’ve liked it a bit more if it didn’t start off with the performance that we saw. I wish being the actual singers – only Ali Azmat & Hadiqa Kiyani had performed but what I saw was something I wish I hadn’t.

It’s a known fact that artists once in their career do come up to a particular point where in sheer frustration or to prove a certain point they make wrong choices, I think this is exactly what Bushra Ansari’s been facing. I don’t know why she found this urge in her to re-establish herself as a playful teenaged singer which looks anything but decent. I also believe she should go easy on the acting she does while listening to the performances of the contestants because I feel she focuses more on lip syncing rather than judging the technicalities with intricacy. Go easy Bushra Aunty, it would suit you a lot. :)

Even though this was the very first Gala round & almost all the performances were good but in my personal opinion none of the contestants made a mark or raised the bar high. I know all of them must be nervous because from now on for the first time they have started to compete for the title of Pakistan Idol but I didn’t find any performance that touched me except a few. So, this week’s theme was sort of a tribute to all the classic songs that were a part of olden golden Pakistani films, songs choices were brilliant & we got to hear some real ethnic songs.

The commentary on all the contestants who performed is as follows:

Rosemary (RM) of Karachi sang Noor Jahan’s ‘Chandni Raatain’. She was good as usual but I feel she could’ve done better. Nevertheless I am sure she will be safe & through to the next round. Bushra Ansari liked her performance but pointed out once again that she was running out of breath, Ali Azmat appreciated her performance saying he couldn’t pick any mistake. Hadiqa Kiyani’s comment was perfect saying that no contestant should be compared with the actual singer who sang that song because none of those singers can be reborn so all the contestants should be judged based on their own capability, for which I agree with her completely.

Shahmir Aziz Quidwai (SQ) of Islamabad sang Ahmed Rushdi’s ‘Jaisay Jantay Nahi’. I don’t know why he calls himself a rock artist because he sounds too soft to be a rock singer. One of the main reasons for why I say that is because his voice can never overlap the music whereas the only main asset of a rock singer is the power, the throw & the loudness in a voice but the song which he attempted today was exactly what matched his vocal tone, so he should explore more genre’s that match his voice tone. Bushra Ansari & Ali Azmat appreciated him but Hadiqa Kiyani said she couldn’t enjoy his singing as he committed clear mistakes on the notes.

Waqas Ali (WA) of Rawalpindi sang Mehdi Hassan’s ‘Mere Dil Se Zindagi Bhar’. Just when I thought to myself that he sounded so mature as a singer, the next thing I heard Hadiqa Kiyani say was more or less the same. According to her he sang it just like a professional singer. Ali Azmat thought he was faking his voice but Bushra Ansari said she enjoyed his singing a lot.

Ali Asad Zaidi (AZ) of Karachi sang Mehdi Hassan’s ‘Dunya Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein’. I think he needs to open up a bit, it looks like he holds back a lot while singing & doesn’t open up his mouth to project the words with clarity. He clearly had some issues in low notes & Bushra Ansari mentioned it as well. Hadiqa Kiyani said she found certain mistakes in his high notes as well. But luckily for him, he already has a strong fan base & for that I am sure he will be safe too & he should be because he is a great singer, it just wasn’t one of his days.

Mohammad Shoaib (MS) of Peshawar sang Mehdi Hassan’s ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’. It has to be one of the most difficult songs that were attempted in this round & he always makes such choices. He sounded so peaceful & soothing but the judges thought the opposite. Hadiqa Kiyani’s comment didn’t make any sense because she said his approach towards the song was shallow & both Ali Azmat & Bushra Ansari felt that he lacked the feel & expression, which didn’t sound like it anyways but I hope he gets the votes & is safe too.

Mehwish Maqsood (MM) of Lahore sang Noor Jahan’s ‘Banwari Chakori’. I wasn’t too impressed by this performance I don’t know why but she sounded like she had a sore throat. Bushra Ansari pointed out that she ran out of breath but Ali Azmat liked her performance, Hadiqa Kiyani was once again honest & said she sounded too forceful & harsh. Hadiya Kiyani also mentioned something important that the lyrics should be given special consideration & should be projected with clarity.

Zamad Baig (ZB) of Mandi Bahauddin sang Ahmed Rushdi’s ‘Keeya Hai Jo Pyaar To’. He was as usual flawless & confident. The best thing about his performance is that he sings with such an ease that he makes it a joy to listent to. All the judges appreciated him & Hadiqa Kiyani commended him on the rawness & husk of his voice which differentiates him from rest of the contestants. He no doubt is the most in-form singer of the lot.

Waqas Ali Vicky (WV) of Miyan Channu sang Mehdi Hassan’s ‘Abb Ke Hum Bichre’. I think he clearly had some issues in the lower notes which was quite audible but none of the judges picked out any of his mistakes & all of them liked his performance a lot. I hope he gets a lot of votes because no doubt he has a very soothing voice too & is one of my favorites.

Abdul Rafay Khan (RK) of Karachi sang Mehdi Hassan’s ‘Pyaar Bharay Do Sharmeelay Nain’. He was great but the judges pointed out quite a few mistakes. Hadiqa Kiyani wasn’t impressed at all & said he lost control of his notes many times. Ali Azmat agreed as well but also said that his singing had a certain feel to it. I liked his performance as well.

Syed Sajid Abbas (SA) of Karachi sang Ahmed Rushdi’s ‘Socha Tha Pyaar Na Karainge’. He was effortless & it was a very very sweet performance from him. All the judges loved it Bushra Ansari said she enjoyed it, Ali Azmat did pick a little mistake but said he enjoyed the performance over all. Hadiqa Kiyani was all praises for him as well.

Asad Raza Sonu (RS) of Lahore sang Mehdi Hassan’s ‘Jab Koi Pyaar Se’. He was good though but I don’t know I felt he was just good & nothing extra ordinary. Judges liked his performance a lot & Hadiqa Kiyani said he puts a certain feel to his song & portrays the emotions right. Ali Azmat & Bushra Ansari also praised him saying he justified the song.

Sana Zulfikaar (SZ) of Lahore sang Noor Jahan’s ‘Sada Ho Apne Pyaar Ki’. I thought she did sing well but without any emotion & she sang it in a hurry. The thing I love about Hadiya Kiyani is that no matter how much she likes a contestant, she would never sugar coat whenever she’d pointing out their mistakes. Hadiqa felt that she sounded too forceful & not at all smooth whereas Ali Azmat & Bushra Ansari liked her performance.

Kashif Ali (KA) of Lahore who was selected as a Wild Card Contestant sang Masood Rana’s ‘Bhool Jana Gham Dunya De’. What a brilliant performance once again I must say. Hadiqa Kiyani was as usual overwhelmed because of his singing & all the three judges praised him which he totally deserved. So, finally the moment that we all waited for was here & Kashif Ali made it as a 13th contestant. I hope we see him the top 3 because he certainly is a brilliant singer.

So, this was it from the very first Gala round. I liked the performances of Syed Sajjid Abbas, Waqas Ali Vicky, Kashif Ali, Mohammad Shoaib, Waqas Ali & Abdul Rafay Khan the most. Once again it would be a tough decision to make & let’s see who doesn’t make it through. Who did you like the most, which ones were your favorite performances & who are you voting for? Do share with us. :)

Kambakht – First Teaser!

0

Here is the trailer of the movie we have all been waiting for. Kambakht is the first ever proper comedy movie of Pakistan which will be released in 2014. It is produced by ARY Films and Kahani Films and directed by Hamza Ali Abbasi. Its star cast includes names like Humayun Saeed, Shafqat Cheema, Shehreyar Munawar Siddiqui, Sohai Ali Abro, Fizza Zehra, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Gohar Rasheed, Salman Shaukat, Meisam, Ahmed Cheema, Atif Siddiqui, Jalal Haider Khan, Latif Sheikh, Yousuf Bashir Qureshi & Saba Qamar

The teaser itself is so hilarious; I think we would all be screaming with laughter once we see the whole movie. Hamza Ali Abbasi has once again experimented with his look; he has brilliantly carried off the dorky look. We will also see Humayun Saeed in a new look, it makes him look dangerous in a funny way (does that make sense?). The beginning of the trailer would make you think that you are watching the wrong trailer, but then it takes you by surprise.

The cast is amazing, and the overall look of the movie seems promising! The teaser did not give an insight into the story and has left us curious to know more. I hope we get to see a full-fledged trailer soon to feed our curiosity.

I have high hopes from this film now. I really hope it does not end up disappointing me!

Here is the first teaser of the movie:

Mohabbat Subha Ka Sitara Hai – Episode 9

0

Honestly speaking, I am tired of fishing out the good bits from mediocre episodes with repetitive scenes. The only thing that was reinforced in this episode was that Nabeel had a good reason for falling for someone like Romaissa. Romaissa may not be very smart but she is genuine, in need of love, someone who would value love and also someone who Nabeel can trust with his eyes closed. No amount of money can make up for the sort of attitude Nabeel’s family has been giving him. The fact that Nabeel is going to transfer the house that they live in to Romaissa’s name too was a little hard to digest.

msksh3

Alia’s conversations with her fiancé are getting highly repetitive. They have absolutely nothing better to talk about other than the usual easy load issues or more like non issues! Or it is always about Alia comparing her fiancé with Nabeel.

msksh5

Hassan was given a lot more screen time than he deserved. He is definitely not one of the most important characters in the play but is one of the many side characters which most of the people are tired of watching already. Okay, so he is not just someone who lives on his brother in law’s money but he also has a very colorful personality. I have no idea why tonight’s episode opened with Hassan flirting with a girl and most of the happenings later on were in some way or the other connected to it. We already know only too well that Hamnah is very gullible so if this whole fiasco went to show how easy it was for Hassan to fool Hamnah then it was quite unnecessary.

msksh1

Romaissa is really being unbelievably nice now. When she was living with Khala, it was easier to understand why she had to please everyone but now that she has a good reason not to look back, she still keeps in touch with her Khala’s family forgetting the fact that her Khala literally sold her to Nabeel! Why would she want to go back to stay at her Khala’s place? She never got along with anyone there and she keeps on insisting herself that her life before she met Nabeel was anything but perfect.

msksh4

Only nine episodes of the serial have gone on air till now but I am losing interest in the story already. The story really needs to pick up pace so that things start moving ahead. All the characters and their relationships with each other have been well established, I am really interested in finding out how they will take the story forward now. There isn’t a single person in Nabeel’s family whose scenes are worth looking forward to. Romaissa’s family, just like Nabeel’s, has nothing new to add to the story. We know that both these families are dysfunctional and that is the reason why Romaissa and Nabeel value love and loyalty so much but is that it?

I am losing interest in the play with every passing episode. There are times when the lead actors’ acting is so unimpressive that I feel frustrated because I know that they are capable of doing much better. Unfortunately the developments in tonight’s episode and also the preview of the next episode gave me absolutely nothing to look forward to.

Kabhi Kabhi – Episode 21!

0

To be honest, every week I dread tuning to this program because I know it’s just going to be a mind-teaser & surprise surprise I wasn’t proven wrong this week too. Nothing is making sense in the drama & no character is worth sympathizing for. What a waste of time I must say!

Just by looking at Dad I wondered if he is feeling remorse of any sorts because he spoiled his daughter’s life. Luckily, Eva survived his tactics because Rehbar took her away from him otherwise Dad actually wanted to throw Rehbar out of her life as well or may be he only had an acceptance to their relation because Rehbar was nothing but a puppet that lived right in front of his eyes. Sadly, what he did with Eeshal was absolutely insane. I hope he rots in his guilt because what Eeshal’s facing right now is a result of his planning. Plus on the other side, Eva & Dad’s conversation made NO SENSE at all. She cried because she thought Sunny scolded Eeshal because of her, all of a sudden Eva felt so much for her poor sister but where was this very same Eva when her younger sister was going to her in-laws place? She didn’t even bother seeing her off at her wedding night & how come all of a sudden Eva developed such an insight as to feel something for someone? Isn’t she a conceited little fool who has no brains whatsoever? Once again the dumb & dumber conversation was forced & looked like they had no dialogues to work with so they just blabbered whatever popped into their minds.

Sunny permitted Arez to meet Ali & all of a sudden Rehbar tells Eeshal on the phone that Arez was furious & wanted to meet Ali, whereas he already had met him. Eeshal starts planning with Rehbar that how Arez could meet Ali? When Sunny in the very first place ALLOWED Arez to meet Ali so where did things go wrong? No verbal spat was shown & nothing was ever said to Sunny to hurt his 1gram ego so why the fuss was created once again out of thin-air? All I saw was that Soni came & started begging Sunny for rescuing her & Arez told her off, that’s it. So, why was Arez once again seeking Sunny’s permission & why was he not allowing it?

I actually advise the actor playing the role of Sunny to stop acting because seems like annoying is his second-name & he by all means redefines & owns it. In the beginning of the drama reviews I got a pointer from the writer herself saying that Rehbar & Eva have a very strong role to play in this story & now when we’re almost at the end of it, I am still waiting for their feed. I did hear the term Halala being used without any grounds to it, so is this what Rehbar would do? Get Eeshal married again to Arez? Is this what the story’s all about? I hope it finishes off ASAP because this senseless drama is getting on my nerves now!

Aasmanon Pay Likha Episode 21 – Review

0

After a few disappointing weeks, we finally got to see an episode with some substance. I am sure most of you were in tears while watching the episode (I definitely was!). Sheheryar Munawar Siddiqui acted brilliantly in this episode; his expressions, the way he cried, and even his dialogue delivery was spot on. All the scenes between mother and son were emotionally charged. Saba Hameed was also brilliant in all her scenes!

Aaliyan might be upset with his mother but he still went to the hospital to visit her. Years of anger and resentment were buried inside him and he just could not forgive her for leaving him even though she tried to explain him the reason. Their last meeting was disastrous as Aaliyan again lashed out on her, and simply refused to let her love him or even come close to him. He regretted his decision later on when he got to know that his mother had passed away the next morning. Shamsa had desperately wanted to meet her son in the last few minutes of her life, but he did not feel important to pick up Qudsiya’s call who was trying to reach him to tell him about Shamsa’s condition.

Qudsiya was highly disappointed with Aaliyan’s behavior; she was shocked at the indifference he showed towards his own mother. She did not like the way he had behaved with Shamsa when he knew that she was unwell. She had avoided speaking to Aaliyan since they met again but this time she could not help but lash out at him for being so insensitive.

The scene where Aaliyan goes near Shamsa’s body and cries his heart out was a heart wrenching scene. He showed how much he loved her in that scene though he was not able to express it when she was alive. I really wish they had shown a happy reunion between Aaliyan and Shamsa before she died. At least Aaliyan would not have to live with the guilt that he never showed any affection or love towards her.

Dado had always remained tight lipped about his mother, but now the guilt was eating her up inside and she finally revealed that Shamsa was never at fault and he had been told lies all along. Aaliyan was devastated to hear the truth and hurt by the betrayal from his own family. If only Dado had revealed the truth about his mother when she was alive, then at least he would have spent her last few days without being upset with her.

Dado was surprised when Qudsiya called her to ask about Aaliyan and then gave the news of Shamsa’s death. Aaliyan had not told her that Qudsiya knew Shamsa and she was curious to know how they knew each other. Aaliyan himself did not know her relation with his mother and Shahnawaz. Technically, he should have known by now that Qudsiya worked there. But then Qudsiya was treated more like family than an employee and all he could tell Dado was that she was close to Aaina. It seems that he still has doubts about Shahnawaz and Qudsiya’s relationship.

Qudsiya’s mother is an extremely annoying character. She came to Shahnawaz’s house to give condolence, but then could not help but state her opinion about Qudsiya living alone with Shahnawaz in his house. It was just not the time or place to say this because Shahnawaz needs Qudsiya’s support for a while to help him deal with Aaina after Shamsa’s death.

Natasha has left the house once again and this time no one bothered to stop her except Rana. Aaliyan has had enough of her now and I doubt he will make any attempt this time to bring her back.

The preview for the next episode really seems promising. I hope we finally get to see Qudsiya and Aaliyan together!

Till Next Week!

Bunty I Love You Episode 5 – Review

0

This show is exceeding my expectations week after week. We got more insight into Bunty’s old life in this episode, and we also know now that Dania is clearly infatuated with Bunty. She feels as if her teenage days are back when she is with him and she is in love with this feeling of being young again. She wants to give Bunty all the luxuries in life and in return she wants his company and his attention.

The surprising part was that Dania was trying to buy Bunty’s affection. This has already been tried on her by Patel and he had failed. What is the point of trying it again when it is bound to fail? Bunty is shown as an innocent boy who is in awe of Dania and the luxuries that she had bestowed on him, and like any boy of his age he wants to show off his new status to his friends. He had thought of Dania as his employer, but she had made him his friend. She wants to share her lifestyle with him, and she gave him the first glimpse of it when she took him to the party.

Dania was extremely excited to take Bunty to the party and introduce him to her friends. Bunty was not at ease with the environment and uncomfortable dancing with Dania at first, but he adjusted after a while. Now that Bunty is a part of her life, she refuses to share him with anyone and it totally spoiled her mood when he was constantly being called by someone. Her mood became worse when she got to know that it is a girl. Bunty told her truthfully that she was his friend Jedi’s sister who always degraded him; though he omitted the fact that he likes her, but unfortunately the feeling is not mutual.

He tried his best to make Mehwish jealous by giving her details of his new lifestyle, and the party he has been to. He was successful in making her shocked and a bit jealous too. He thought that she will finally take some interest in him now that he matches up to her status. Mehwish thought that he was lying about the whole matter till she saw him in the new car and suit herself when he visited her house. But then she did not want to show that she was impressed and tried her best to ignore him. I truly felt bad for Bunty when he barred his heart in front of Mehwish and gave her the ring and she cruelly rejected him once again by throwing the ring in his face (figuratively of course!)

Bunty is still not aware of Dania’s intention but he knows she is a respectable woman who is just in need of his company for a while. It was obvious with the way he was defending her in front of Jedi that he respects her alot and does not feel that she has any dishonorable intentions.

Dania, on the other hand, is clearly smitten by Bunty. She was furious when she thought that Bunty lied to her about the phone call, but immediately brightened up when he complimented her. She fulfils all his wishes even before he says it. She thinks she owns Bunty and hated the fact that he had went out without informing her. She was restless the whole time as she feared that he had lied to her once again. One scene that was beautifully shot was the one in which she hears Patel’s voice and feels his presence around her. The fear and restlessness was beautifully portrayed by Saba Qamar.

This show is turning out to be extremely interesting. I am waiting to see what happens next!

Rubaru – Episode 06!

0

Ohkay so this episode focused more on Neelam & Taimoor’s love story, which made me wonder all this while that what was the force which dragged Taimoor to fall for an immature girl like Neelam?

Yes, Neelam is a spoiled girl who always got pampered from her mother especially, once again making it pretty obvious that Naani was unreasonable even in dealing with Neelam, because she showered her with extra love & attention & walked an extra mile for her. So, yes because of all that Neelam became spoiled to the core. The scene of Neelam’s mother & brother was enough of a proof to let us know what sort of support she used to get from her mother so I am not going to blame Neelam for how she turned out to be because sadly her mother never taught her the tact of being reasonable & considerate which made her become a complete selfish snot.

All this while I thought what did actually Taimoor find him Neelam who treated him like a doormat? But then in stead of feeling hatred for Neelam, I thought Taimoor was entitled to everything that she put him up with because a guy like Taimoor didn’t deserve a nice submissive wife. He is one of those who can not value the attention & consideration their wives shower them with so for this reason he completely forgot all that his wife did for him & very conveniently got tangled with an immature girl who was not only demanding but also was degrading towards him.

I think in all this matter no one else is to be blamed, not Neelam, not Taimoor’s wife but Taimoor himself because he got swayed by the existence of his pretty student & he was ready to put on stake everything that he ever owned, even it if costed him his only son – Surmed. Taimoor was definitely unjust in dealing with his wife because he didn’t give her a due share of credit & respect that she ever deserved.

I believe they thought Neelam’s winged eyeliner was enough of a reminder for us all that she belonged to the 90’s era whereas looking at her statement necklaces & skin-fit jeans it evidently spoke the opposite. All this while I thought she was just doing some simple graduation but getting to know that she was a student of MBBS – this was another deet that was shocking. I never thought that shopping, meaningless affair & MBBS can go hand-in-hand but then it doesn’t matter, we’re talking about Neelam & she can do anything.

I felt that Neelam/Taimoor’s extremely candid scenes wouldn’t have looked so bad IF Taimoor didn’t have the whole guilt baggage that he carried with him. So, yes I definitely blame Taimoor & I feel he is a villain & Surmed took that all after him & in fact he is over-doing it now. Let’s see what happens next.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

SANNATA- The soundtrack

0

SANNATA is a serial that hasn’t grown on everyone. It’s one of those serials like UBFN that have a very selective audience and doesn’t click with the masses. The reason being it’s not a commercial serial and lacks the mainstream attraction. But for those of us who have fallen in love with it, we can’t seem to have our fill!

The qawwali that features in SANNATA transports me into a parallel world. Sufi music has that impact on people and this is no different.

This poem is written by Amir Khusro in Persian and Brij Bhasha. Brij Bhasha is a Dehaati Zabaan (country tongue) and a dialect of Hindi. In the first verse, the first line is in Persian, the second in Brij Bhasha, the third in Persian again, and the fourth in Brij Bhasha.

Zehaal-e-miskeen makun taghaful,
Duraye naina banaye batiyan.

Do not overlook my misery,
by blandishing your eyes and weaving tales,

Ke taab-e-hijran nadaram ay jaan,
Na leho kahe lagaye chatiyan.

My patience has over-brimmed, O sweetheart!
why do you not take me to your bosom.

Shaban-e-hijran daraz chun zulf,
Wa roz-e-waslat cho umer kotah.

Long like curls in the night of separation
short like life on the day of our union.

Sakhi piya ko jo main na dekhun,
To kaise kaTun andheri ratiyan.

My dear, how will I pass the dark dungeon night
without your face before.

Yakayak az dil do chashm-e-jadu,
Basad farebam baburd taskin.

Suddenly, using a thousand tricks
the enchanting eyes robbed me of my tranquil mind.

Kisay pari hai jo ja sunave,
Piyare pi ko hamari batiyan,

Who would care to go and report
this matter to my darling.

Cho shama sozan cho zaraa hairan,
Hamesha giryan be ishq an meh.

Tossed and bewildered, like a flickering candle,
I roam about in the fire of love.

Na nind naina na ang chaina,
Na aap aaven na bhejen patiyan,

Sleepless eyes, restless body,
neither comes she, nor any message.

Bahaq-e-roz-e-visaal-e-dilbar,
Ke daad mara gharib Khusro.

In honour of the day I meet my beloved
who has lured me so long, O Khusro!

Sapet man ke varaye rakhun,
Jo jaye pauN piya ke khatiyan.

I shall keep my heart suppressed
if ever I get a chance to get to her trick.

This is the original version which has been modified for the soundtrack of SANNATA. A link to the video is added for your listening pleasure.

Hope you like it as much as I do.

Pyarai Afzal – The Meeting

0

Just finished watching this week’s installment and all I said is Wow! What an episode. No matter how much exhausted you are, Serials like Pyarai Afzal are not less than a cool breeze that blows and freshen up your mind-state.Hamza Ali stole the limelight once again this week and I got spell bounded with every word that he uttered and every expression he gave throughout the episode. Perfect piece of acting by him!

It seems that destiny has planned something else for Afzal and Farah’s relation and this is the reason why he missed the call when Farah was about to break the ice in front of her parents. Arfa, knowing a part of reality decided not to tell anything about that call. Because for her,Lubna is the princess of Afzal’s dreams and Farah is the evil sister who is creating hurdles for them. So being a well-wisher,she decided better to stay out of it.

Afzal’s changed life style has now started bringing impact on his friends. His loyalty towards his friends always remained unquestioned and for that his friends never compelled him to pick the way that goes against his and his parents will. And now that his friend was in need of cash, Afzal was ready to give it in place of him without having any second thought. It has been said, kabhi kabhi aik lamha he kaafi hota hai and that was the moment when his friend decided that he won’t be taking part in anything that involves gamble in it from now on.

Lubna is a perfect planner; She always know what to do next and for that Farah relies on her always and this time it was Lubna again who forced Farah to get ready and I must admit that Aiza Khan looked ravishing and entrancing; Navy Blue suited her so well. Farah’s “Crisis Management” technique failed badly when she came to know that Afzal was right there at her door. Did anyone notice ever that figure 9 is of prime importance in this show; Anything important that has to take place always revolve around this figure, haan, a.m. and p.m. varies.. :)

Afzal’s meeting with Farah’s father was another interesting part of today’s episode. The way he answered every single question of his FIL-to be was more than enough to satisfy his expectations from Afzal. He was impressed by Afzal right from the day when he left the job after being accused of what he had not done and there was no room of doubt left when he met him and heard  Afzal’s point of view about his and Farah’s relation. Despite of the fact that he was not trained by Farah and Lubna this time, all the do’s and dont’s were handled by Afzal really well. The look at Afzal’s face when Farah entered dining area worth million dollar.

After the sad demise of Farah’s plan :p , she discussed rather yelled at Afzal (like always) that what he has to do next – ofcourse, with the help of Lubna. Goofy hai na Farah bechaari.. At that time, all I felt was the difference in Farah and Lubna’s tones – Former shouting out loud and latter speaking softly and politely. I felt bad when Afzal was left helpless by being forced to agree to what Farah and Lubna said.

I am not going to unveil the charm by narrating the preview of next episode but I want to tell that we will be seeing Mehtab in next episode again.. :)

Do share your thoughts about this week’s episode.

Television Commercials WE Love to Watch!

0

Dramas, telefilms, music videos, sports programs, talk shows, live shows, current affairs, each and every thing has its own importance and a certain place in daily TV transmissions. But there is this one thing that we usually ignore when it comes to giving credits; commonly known as TVC that not only generate a proper revenue for television channels but also keep the viewers updated with the launches of all new products in the market.

Personally, I find TV commercials fun to watch, not all of them of course, but some of them are genuinely entertaining. During an intense or tragic situation of a prime time drama, a light and quirky TVC provides the much needed comic relief to the audience. Although, advertising in Pakistan is getting a bit lame these days but there are always commercials that portrays a good catchy scenario and tag-line and hence deserves appreciation.

Let’s talk about all those TV commercials that we love watching these days in no particular order. You can always add your favorites in the list, let’s make it a fun conversation, shall we?

National Foods Masala Advertisement Featuring Sherheryar Munawar

1

So much fun, so many colours and so many traditions in a single TVC! Although I found this advertisement a wee bit cheesy but then again this was how it meant to be. Director Asim Raza, perfectly picked up the vibrancy of Pakistani wedding tradition, thumbs up for that! The BG (Chitah Kukar – one of the folk songs by Mussarat Nazair) went so well with all the halla gulla and colorfulness of a wedding house. What do you think?

Kashmir UIL 50 Years Celebration Advertisement

A personal favourite, Kashmir UIL 50 Years Celebration Advertisement was broadcasted somewhere in 2012 featuring three generations and their mode of celebrations. What’s so special about this TVC you ask? A revival of Pakistani classic movies’ songs, I say. The commercial has used some of the most popular Pakistani songs from the last 50 years as the background, which honestly has lifted this simple advertisement recording to a whole new level. Have a thing for oldies goldies? You will love this TVC then.

Olpers Advertisement Featuring Leading Morning Show Hosts of the Time

2

Olpers with its simple yet classic tag line “Subah Bakhair Zindagi” has always maintained a level of its TV advertisements. Often times, their advertisements portray the naturally beautiful and pure suburbs of Pakistan. More or less 3 years back they came up with this idea of featuring Pakistan’s leading morning show hosts in their new TVC. A well thought idea!

National Foods Eid Special Advertisement

National Foods usually comes up with new ads for all festivals, this is the thing I like the best about them; giving worth to our own traditions and celebrate them. Here I’m talking about that one particular heart-melting ad where an elder sister travels all the way from Lahore to New Delhi to see her younger sister, relive their childhood and celebrate Eid together. The ad features Shamim Hilaly, Sabreen Hisbani, Sami Khan and others.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Advertisements Featuring Relationships

Dairy Milk’s advertisement have been consistently cute! Instead of advertising the products directly into your face, they try to present it as a part of short sweet story. The new dairy milk ad features a married couple, celebrating their anniversary with a dairy milk bar. In past, I used to love that heart-warming dairy milk ad where a brother gifts his sister a Cadbury bar on her wedding eve, as a reminder of sweetness of their relationship, so much emotions in one ad!

v

I also adore Cadbury’s ad that came with the theme of freedom. A bunch of friends, saving and striving to raise green flag high up in the air, makes my heart melts.

Ufone – The Ultimate Hilarious Ads

ufone_sms

And of course we just cannot compile this list without mentioning the fun, quirky, witty and upbeat Ufone ads, the one that have Faisal Qureshi and Meekal Hussain gang. This team has given some major boost to the otherwise shattering Ufone company, no wonder these days they are one of the preferred cellular service brand in Pakistan, “teri meherbani”!

Which TVC do YOU love to watch? Don’t forget to mention your personal favourites!

Fawad Khan & Imran Abbas among TOP 10 MOST ANTICIPATED DEBUTANTES

0

The news I am about to share with my readers was quite a surprise for me. Famous Film Magazine, Filmfare came up with the list of TOP 10 MOST ANTICIPATED FACES of 2014 and Fawad Khan & Imran Abbas are among most anticipated and high profile debutantes of 2014, according to the magazine.

Fawad_Afzal_Khan imran-abbas-naqvi-24

Fawad Khan is famous for his charismatic personality and Imran’s charming looks steal the limelight always. Now the question that arises in my mind is will we be able to see Fawad and Imran back on Television screens or not? After getting back to back offers for movies and their busy schedule with Indian Movie Makers, they will hardly find any time to visit Pakistan and sign a project here. So,after hearing the news,I was filled with content and felt bad at the same time.

Ayesha came up with the statement that she is moody and takes keen interest in signing the projects that really makes her happy;she works according to her own mind frame.

She said that after her performance in Bulbulay, she was approached for modelling many times and now that she is getting serious about acting more than modeling so she will look for some really different roles in Pakistani Dramas.

Rate Ayesha’s acting out of 10. For me, 5.5.

Tips To Become An Interesting Individual

0

It is important to be an interesting person, and there are a lot of ways to be interesting. Interesting people get noticed and favored. People love to listen to them and talk to them. Moslty individuals want to be interesting for meeting new people, dates, job interviews and for their own contentment. Keeping up on what gives you that spark in life is ultimately what makes you interesting. So find yourself and read up on the ways to be interesting and ways to show it. In this article you will find some easy to use and perfect ways to make yourself feel interesting. One of the first ways to be interesting is to do what you say. It’s so easy to say something, but action is what truly shows people what you are capable of doing. If you take the action you say you will, people will respect you and see you as interesting. It gives you a lot of talking points to mention that you ran a marathon or recently skydived. If you usually say what you do and do not make up stories then people automatically trust you and try to be with you so this is a very useful tip.
 what-you-do-what-you-say

It is also easy to be interesting if you have a hobby or two and keep up with them. Find what you love to do and do it. You may like different things from when you were a kid, and that’s okay. Learn up about your hobbies as well, and you’ll have a lot to talk about. Reading books, going out to party, travelling, listening to music, watching seasons or movies, there are thousands of things you can choose from and see what you like to do. This way you will find someone with common interests and talk about it. Another way to be interesting is to keep up with the news. So much is always going on in the world, and many people do not even know it. Find a few news websites or channels you most enjoy, or get an app or two on your smartphones. Try to remain unbiased about issues at first until you know the entire story and are able to formulate your own opinion. Engaging in some type of art or entertainment can also help. Attending plays and sports games, going to museums and concerts, or movies and cultural festivals is another way to be interesting. Culture is what ties people together. With culture, one thing, food, a song or a cheer can connect you with someone else. It’s a fantastic thought. So amongst all of the malls, bars and parties, don’t forget to check out something cultural as well.

Knowledge is amazing. If you’re really into something, it’s interesting to let others learn a bit here and there from you. If you’re really into making something or reading, study up on the types of materials or authors and their stories. The internet is full of content. If you know where to go, with a few clicks you can read some great articles that will give you interesting knowledge.
Some of the best stories are retold. Listen to your friends and the people you meet for their stories, or stories that they share. You’ll learn something new everytime you listen carefully. You will also be able to pick up on what makes that person interesting to you, which will help you shape your character and become more interesting to others. For me, inspiring people are some of the most interesting people and i usually get easily attraacted to people who inspire me. See what you find interesting. Spending time alone is very important for your self-awareness and character. By spending time alone, you’re allowing yourself to engage in your hobbies, learn more and see what your life is really all about. Spending time alone is necessary to find out who you are, and gain true confidence in yourself, your ideas and your ways of living. So try to take out sometime from you busy routine to spend alone and see what you really are or aspire to be. Not everybody likes spending as much time alone each week as others, but you will gain so much in even a little amount of time and learn to recharge a bit in your own space. Try it once and see what you feel. Do let us know about your suggestions as they are truly valued.

Ishq Mein Tere – Episode 11!

0

Another one of interesting episodes that we got to see. No matter what but I am enjoying this show a lot despite the simple predictable story, what I like the most is the direction & the production value they have put to make this drama what it is.

I really & actually thought that the post-wedding scenes of Aiza & Shehryar would be awkward to see but I am amazed at how they have covered their relation, their growing feelings & the love they both are experiencing towards each other. For this I must commend Shehzad Nawaz & Mehwish Hayat for acting it out so decently that I found myself smiling when they both shared a screen space. Aiza has fallen in love with her husband & Sheheryar is in awe of finding a perfect soul-mate, which is absolutely adorable.

I thought I would sympathize with Saad because his first love went bad & to be honest I really do want to feel something for him & his suffering but his unmanly attitude isn’t worth sympathizing with. I think Saad’s character is the weakest in the whole family because before he fell in love, he was too self-centered to actually see what Laiba felt for him & now after he has fallen for Aiza & she has gotten married, he is still ready to think about the ways of winning her love. He is even misbehaving with his mother for no good reason & hovering around Aiza like a Zombie, not at all giving a thought as to what others might think about it. Seriously, how much meaner can one get? Really, the fact that he is unable to cope up with the reality of his love being unrequited is shown appropriately but it’s just his character which is making it intolerable to actually feel anything for him.

I appreciated the fact that there was less emphasis on Laiba this time but in the beginning of the episode she got her fair share of putting the blame on Aiza conveniently. I must say both Laiba & Saad suit each other by all means because both of them are spoiled snots who are testing Aiza’s patience for nothing. She decided what she had to & they are ready to make her life miserable. Cuckoo is being mean to the core & for all the wrong reasons because she just can not get Shehryar & she needs to understand this. I thought Aiza would be submissive to everyone’s idiocy because she would want to make her mark in the family but providentially she is doing it when needed. She isn’t buying all that Cuckoo has to say because no doubt, Aiza has become a permanent member of the family whereas Cuckoo is still a guest in the house. I enjoyed their verbal spats because this sheds light a bit more on Aiza’s character that she won’t entertain any sorts of taunts coming from someone who has no position in the family. Finally, Shehryar also gave Cuckoo a shut-up call which was definitely needed but sadly she still doesn’t know where to stop.

All in all, it was another interesting episode. I hope to see less of Saad’s frowning depressing face & wish he goes on another trip where he gets his attitude fixed. Cuckoo it’s a high time you must pack your bags & find another rich cousin to woo & leave the newlywed happy couple alone. I just can’t wait to find out what would be Shahryar’s reaction to Saad’s painting & the little note of confession about his feelings towards Aiza. I hope nothing goes wrong with their relation plus I think Aiza must tell everything to Shehryar about how Saad felt for him & how she never considered him as a potential life partner. Can’t wait till next Wednesday!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Interview of Yaseen Malik and Mishal

Interview of Kashmiri Leader Yaseen Malik and his Pakistani Wife Mishal from Urdu Monthly Gourmet Magazine done by Zoha Imran.

India the country we know for its music, art, films and film stars. But there is also a flip side to this soft image of India. Apart from films and music India is also a big military power, and it is using it to suppress Kashmiri’s right to self determination through extreme brutality and savageness for past 67 years . Today is 5th February, Kashmir Day, India’s illegitimate occupation of Kashmir is still a reality, lets hope Kashmiris get their right for self determination to decide their fate.

Useful Beauty Tips

0

In a hectic life style of today, it is very hard for th girls totake out time for their beauty and care. Simplifying ones lifestyle including beauty tips is also very necessary. If you resolved to be more organized this year or just want to shave some time off of your morning routine, here are some excellent tricks to simplify your beauty routine. These tips will help you to get gorgeous in a faster, easier and so much more enjoyable way.  One of the easiest ways to simplify your beauty routine is to shower the night before. This way, you’re all clean, you can wash and dry your hair and you’ll be all ready to go the next morning. If hair is not washed then it gives you an untidy look. the hair looks oily or frizzy and it is hard to manage them. This is why taking a bath is suggested. It will not only give you a fresh look but it will at the same time give you a positive energy to feel beautiful and fresh.

Another one of the most time consuming parts of our beauty routine can be sifting through tons and tons of beauty products. Like most women, I own way too many beauty products for my own good and having too many options is not only overwhelming, but they get in the way. It is very important to go through your makeup bag, your vanity and wherever else you happen to have makeup. Throw out old makeup and separate your everyday products from your evening or special occasion makeup. Washing your face gives you a neat look. I’m sure many people with certain good skin types can skip washing their faces in the morning, but I have a super oily T-zone that begs to be washed after I wake up. If you can skip this step of washing your face then you are one step closer to getting ready to head out the door.
makeup-ba--z

Speed up your beauty routine even more by setting out your beauty essentials so they’re within easy reach when you need them. Keep your foundation, blush, mascara, eye liner, lip products and makeup brushes all together. If you don’t have room to lay them all out, you can also keep them in a separate container on the counter or in a drawer. So much easier than looking for products in an overstuffed bag where you yourself forget what you were searching for. Apart from this, we all have certain looks we like to create and there are typically different products we can use to achieve those looks. In order to streamline your makeup routine, always reach for the fast-drying and easiest to apply products. If you’re faster at using pencil liner in contrast to gel liner, keep your pencil liners handy. If you have an eye shadow palette that you can use on your lids and brows, give it prime real estate on your vanity. Also, if you have a beauty tool like a Beauty Blender or your favorite brush that you can use to blend multiple products like foundation and concealer, place it front and center. In this way you will be able to manage your time and use proper materials at the time of need.
Mascara-Magic

For those days where you’re in a crazy hurry and just can’t be bothered to mess around with countless eye shadows, skip it. Having your brows groomed and applying eye liner and some mascara will make a bigger impact than using eye shadow. If you feel naked without wearing something on your lids, swipe a couple of neutral colors on your lids. That will instantly give you a complete new look. Lastly, if you want to speed up your beauty routine, use mascara sparingly. Some ladies choose to skip mascara on lower lashes since they tend to smudge and takes extra time. If you still want to show your lower lashes some love, make sure your dab your mascara wand with a tissue to remove excess product so you get a smooth application. Depending on what your personal beauty routine is like, I’m sure you can come up with lots of other ways to streamline it and simplify it. Do not spend your entire morning applying beauty products when you can take some shortcuts and spend some extra time stretching, enjoying a hot beverage or just mentally planning your day ahead. Do you have any tricks you use that saves time in your beauty routine? If yes then do share them with us as your suggestions are highly valued and appreciated.
