Ranjish Hi Sahi Episode 7 – Love Is…..

0

I absolutely love Kamal Hassan’s character; he is very honest with himself and with others. There is nothing extraordinary about his character in fact if this character wasn’t penned down and acted out so perfectly it wouldn’t have been so likeable either but the fact is that Faisal Rehman’s acting and the way in which this character has been etched out is simply flawless. Kudos to the Maha Malik for writing simple but heart touching dialogues and a big thank you to Faisal Rehman for putting his heart and soul into this character. Samiya Mumtaz is equally brilliant as Yumna, she really does come across as a person who won’t even hurt a fly. The way these two share their fears and feelings with each other is nothing short of a treat. Every single conversation is relatable. The chemistry between Samiya Mumtaz and Faisal Rehman is what makes this love story a treat to watch.

I am not a big fan of Maya Ali and there are many dramas which I did not continue watching because of her but her character in this play actually adds more color to the story. Her reaction to Bilquees’ “army’s” surprise visit to Tooba’s engagement and to everything else adds more life to the drama. Humaira Ali has played many such characters like the one she is playing in this play, she was spot on as the typical Mother in Law to be; she was quick to judge a single woman and would not settle for anything less than a perfect family for her only son. Yumna, however should have known better than to get her daughter engaged to the only son of a woman like her. I found it hard to believe that she did not give her reaction a second thought.

rhs1
Yumna was completely confused about whether she should go ahead with this marriage or not, Kamal did not give her enough time to think things through further and decided to make the decision for her. It was only after the nikkah that she realizes that this is what she really wanted all along. What will be the repercussions of Yumna’s decision? Will Arsal take a stand for Tooba once the secret is out? Or will no one find out just now? The preview of the next episode showed that Bilquess Kamal is going to take the aid of her son now. We have yet to see if Kamal Hassan’s son takes after him or his mother. Kamal did mention in the previous episode that he was a mama’s boy.

rhs3
This was another beautifully directed episode of Ranjish Hi Sahi. There was only one continuity blooper everything else was just perfect. When Kamal and Yumna are having the conversation in the car about Arsal and his family, my guess is that they were driving back home from Arsal’s house but they were not wearing the same clothes which they were wearing in Arsal’s house. The scenes were short and to the point like always. Ranjish Hi Sahi is a good example of good team effort. The writer has paid attention to detail and so has the director.

Ahmed Bashir was a famous writer, journalist and intellectual of our country. Ahmed Bashir was a progressive writer; he faced hardships for his writing and thinking during martial law of general Zia in 1980’s. In those days he even wrote in newspapers under some ghost name to avoid censorship and ban by government.

Ahmed Bashir has written many books and used to regularly write columns in newspapers. He received training of film making from UK and produced/directed one film Neela Parbat in 1969 starring Taalish, Husna and Mohammad Ali. Neela Parbat was written by famous Urdu writer Mumtaz Mufti. Neela Parbat is considered one of the few art films made in Pakistan and it was also second Adult Only (18+) film of Pakistan due to its sensitive and unconventional storyline in which an elder man (Taalish) falls in love with her adapted daughter (Husnaa), whereas Husna was in love with son of Taalish (Muhammad Ali). The film was a bold experiment by Ahmed Bashir and made well ahead of its time.  Neela Parbat failed at box office and Ahmed Bashir never made any other film.

Singer Turned Actors

0

Our Showbiz is crowded with multitalented celebrities who have proven their worth in various fields of entertainment industry. Likewise many of the singers gave a shot at acting and luckily some of them turned out way better actors than expectations.

Ali Haider

Ali Haider is first in my list for the sole reason that he worked in a play “Tum se Kehna tha” (adaptation of “While you were Sleeping”) in the 90’s. Starring Marina Khan and Farhan Ali Agah the play was success. Ali Haider did some other ventures as well including few telefilms for Hum Tv but he there isn’t any major accomplishment to his credit as an actor. Currently he is doing a sitcom “Ek aur Ek Dhai” on Ary Digital.

_Ali_Haider__30_dunuh_Pak101(dot)com

Ali Azmat

Ali Azmat recently appeared in “Waar”. He worked in a Ptv drama during the 90’s when he still had spaghetti hair but my memory fails me after that I have no recollection of anything and couldn’t find anything on net either. If anyone has watched his drama then please do share.

Ali-Azmat

Ali Zafar

My first memory of Ali Zafar is from “College Jeans” and he was a favorite like the rest of the cast. He worked in projects like “Landa Bazaar” and “Kanch k Par”. He has become a star in India after working in movies “Tere Bin Ladin”, “London, Paris New York” and “Chashme Badoor”.

Ali-j4Zafar

Ahmed Ali Butt

Ahmed Ali Butt and Fawad Khan had two separate underground bands namely “Entity” and “Paradigm”. They worked together in the Sitcom “Jutt and Bond” and merged their bands as well. Ahmed Ali Butt later worked in “Inspector Khoji” and “Rubber Band” airing on Ptv and Ary Digital respectively. He has tried his luck only in sitcoms all of which were huge successes. Being an ardent fan of Ahmed Butt and his sitcoms especially “Inspector Khoji” I keep hoping for a similar project :D

ahmed-ali-butt-350x350

Fawad Khan

Fawad Khan first acting venture like Ahmed Ali Butt was “Jutt and Bond”. He started paying more attention towards his acting career which is said to be a reason behind disbanding of the band earlier, few other members also had other priorities. Anyhow Fawad Khan has given us hit like “Daastan”, “Humsafar”, “Khuda k Lye”, “Akbari Asghari” and “Kuch Pyar ka Pagalpan”. His recent projects hadn’t been engaging like the earlier ones but there is always hope for betterment, particularly for FK fans.

fawad-khan-543

Junaid Khan

Like many contemporaries Junaid Khan has also tried his luck in plays like “Yahan Pyar nai hai”, “Mata e Jaan hai tu”, “Maliha Madiha”, “Qadurat” and “Ranj e Aashnai”. None of his dramas had been ground shattering and more importantly all of his roles were similar except Qadurat’s

Junaid_Khan_pakistani_singer_63_qwdrd_Pak101(dot)com

Atif Aslam

Atif Aslam went directly for big screen for his only acting project till now i.e. “Bol.

bol-4-1

Goher Mumtaz

Goher has appeared in drama serial “Tanhai” along with Sohai ali Abro. I found in acting somehow monotonous and at times he seemed expressionless and detached from his surroundings. For me he the weakest singer turned actor up till now. He will be appearing in Umera Ahmed’s first sitcom “Cookie” soon.

My favorites are FK and Ahmed Ali Butt, who is yours?

Top Five Anchors of Pakistan

0

Pakistani media is a very rapidly growing institution. This increasing media has developed a war in between these famous channels. Some media anchors are still fighting for right path and ethics. In this article I will be focusing on the top five anchors of Pakistan. This list is made on the choice of the viewers and their fan following. Some of them are high ranked on the basis of the ratings of their channels. Your opinion is very much appreciated so do come up with your suggestions.

images

Starting of with the top notch veteran journalist Talat Hussain, he is ranked as the top most among this list. This ranking is on the basis of his bold and positive opinions about the certain issues happening in Pakistan. He has a whole lot of work experience; he has worked in PTV, Aaj TV, Dawn news and also in Express News. I find this anchor as very honest and straight forward. He is a great anchor and also a very clean person in his personal life as well. I have also met him personally and he is a very down to earth personality. He was offered to become the care taker minister by the government but he refused to do so. Nowadays he has started working with Bahria University Islamabad and this is a great opportunity for the students of the university.

3_15315755_3_52661132_Moeed-Pirzada

Second among the list of the top five anchors of Pakistan is Moeed Pirzada. He has completed his masters in internet and media regulation. He has also done masters in International Finance and Economics. He also has a huge work experience. Moeed Pirzada has worked with Dunya TV, PTV news and Waqt news. He interviewed international celebrities like Hillary Clinton, Jaswant Singh and Richard Holbrook. He is not a good writer but he is a great anchor. He also has a solid grip on international affairs. He is currently working as director world affairs and hosts a popular talk show Sochta Pakistan. In this program national, regional, strategic, social and educational issues with leading politicians, analysts and policy makers are discussed in detail.

NadeemMalikLive-SamaaTV

Third among the list is Nadeem Malik. He is currently working in Samaa TV and Aaj TV. He is in the list of top five anchors because he has an unbiased and neutral opinion for all sorts of issues. He has a very soft style of speech. He has interviewed the Sri Lankan and Afghan Presidents and also the Malaysian Prime minister. He also has expertise in economic affairs. He has worked with PTV and CNBC Pakistan. Nadeem also served as the Bureau Chief of Islamabad for CNBC Pakistan and hosted talk show News Guru. He has longstanding associations with news organizations and business journals. He has contributed to dozens of local and international news journals as a freelancer, including BBC Online, Asia Times and The News International.

462155-muhammadmalick-1352289805-164-640x480

The fourth among this list is Muhammad Malik. He is recently working with Dunya News and has previously worked with Jang group as well. He is also a straight forward anchor. For an anchor it is a very important to be focused on what you are saying by being totally unbiased. He is a very liberal person but he has never had any double minded point of view. He never uses his opinion for misguiding others. Viewers usually get carried away with certain misguiding views and statements; this is why an anchor must know what to say and how to say whatever he wants to. He is very well known for his stinging writing style and spot on analysis.

Absar Alam

The fifth among this ranking is Absar Alam. He is a senior journalist and a news anchor. He worked for Geo Network and is working nowadays with Aaj TV. He speaks the truth no matter what. He has received many life threats but still he works for the truth. In such challenging and upsetting situations he never looked back and performed exceptionally noteworthy. Along with all these excellent anchors, our country has many other anchors who work day and night for our sake. They strive hard to provide us awareness and keep us updated. Hamid Mir, Kamran Khan, Javed Chaudhry, Shahid Masood, Mubashir Lucman, Kashif Abbasi and many more. These anchors have made our news programs a hit. We should support them and give all of these people a very positive feedback so that they work more hard and keep us informed about the things happening around us.

Patriotic Dramas

0

PTV has given us many unforgettable plays that even after many years, or in case of some dramas, decades they are still cherished and appreciated. Those dramas are used as an example not because of their glamour (which they lacked unlike dramas now a days) but as a complete set of entertainment, quality and values.
One genre of which PTV has produced many memorable serials (a particular favorite of mine) is patriotism. Sunehray Din, Alpha Bravo Charlie, Dhuwan, Wilco, Aahan, Zanjeer, Angar Wadi and Laag are among the dramas that will be remembered for long. Though few of the above mentioned dramas are Kashmir related, I’ve included them in the list, firstly because they were equally emotionally charged and thrilling dramas. Secondly, we are fed with the belief since infancy that Kashmir is our part (a controversial debate though) and hence their plights are ours as well, and these were some great dramas that deserve to be remembered.

alpha
The first three mentioned dramas had not only strongly constructed plots with witty and powerful dialogues they were exceptionally emotive and moving. Those dramas had tragic components as well but those tragedies did not had the depressing effect, which dramas of present day have. The struggles and difficult lives of our soldiers evolve patriotic feelings, create awareness about their dilemmas and problems. There is desperate need for such dramas not only for our moral boosting but also for the sake of our somewhat ethically and morally deteriorating generation whose sole purpose appears to be utilization of night packages (the image portrayed by Tvcs).

images (2)
Waar is a film of the same genre but since I haven’t watched the movie I cannot comment on it or either compare it with the aforementioned dramas. Patriotic dramas and movies are biased, it is an understandable fact. When our nation happily watches propaganda movies of Bollywood (which are most of the times extremely anti-Pakistani) without raising any objections then why there are objections on such Pakistani projects. We have lots of senseless dramas these days, having patriotic dramas on air will be a treat in addition to the fact that in the current circumstances of our country we need positive dramas.

What is your say about patriotic dramas, do share your views.

Shakk – Episodes 7 & 8 Review

0

Finally the inevitable happened. Sehrish fell down from the stairs and lost her child and as I had predicted this caused a strain in Ehtasham and Sehrish’s relationship. I feel almost like a conjurer, bring on my crystal ball aur who kabootar kahan bhag gaye jo hat mein se nikalnay thay!

My heart pains for this couple as I loved them but what can we do! Bad things happen to good people and hota wohee hai jo manzoo-e-writer-aur-director hota hai. Ehtasham was holding up right till the moment Sehrish told him that she deliberately used the stairs as a means of proving a point to him since he had confined her to bed only and was over-protective of her. Sehrish owned up to her mistake of being plain silly which led to the incident but Ehtasham could not.

Btw this is another one of those plays where a miscarriage has caused a strain in the relationship. Other such examples are Shehr-e-Zaat, Kankar etc. Though it was done quite realistically here, falling from the stairs is again a ploy used in so many serials. I mean is falling from the stairs the only reason of a miscarriage. I can google and find a thousand ways but alas it looks like our drama makers have never heard of google! Koi in logon ko google ke baray mein bataye…

After the miscarriage, Sehrish is at her mother’s place and Ehtasham has severed all forms of contact with her. He doesn’t pick up her phone and doesn’t come to see her either. He doesn’t even talk to his own mother since he knows she’d ask him to bring Sehrish back. For how long he continues like this and doesn’t own up to his own mistake of being over possessive remains a question.

As a means of putting her down Ali allowed Sania to do a job. It was made to look like a great favour to her by her husband and mother-in-law. Lekin us bichari ko baghair experience ke 150,000 kee job mil gayee. We poor souls should all consult her. Hamain to experience ke sath itnay kee job itnee miltee Sania Madam hamaray sir pe bhee hath rakh dain.

To make matters worse Sania has found a job in Ali’s office as his project assistant. Ali is totally paranoid on having Sania on his team and Sania is not so happy either. Except for her son, her family is making it look very bad for her that she’s doing a job. Her husband is having inferiority complex on knowing that she’s more educated than him. Naheen, doctor naheeeeeeennnnnnn! The scene where Roomi says Sania should do the job was very cute. I have a feeling eventually Ehtasham would get convinced of Sania’s abilities and the two would get along but this would cause doubts in the minds of their respective spouses. The irritatingly irritating Atif found out about Sania and immediately called Maham to share this ‘big secret’ with her. Yar issay office mein kuch kam wam de diya karo itna khoobsoorat to hai naheen k sirf shakal dekhnay k liye office mein rakha hua hai!

I mean urggg we got to see Atif so much in these two episodes that I almost tried to hit the wall. Infact, we saw him much more of Atif (you hearing kidnappers!) than Sehrish. Infact, Sehrish had very few scenes in 8th my ‘favourite couple’ Maham and Atif in again many scenes Maham spilling the beans (not literally episode while I wanted to see more of her. Dil maange more! The preview again shows folks warna gand par jata aur production assistants kee shamat atee) to Sehrish about Sania being ex-

fiance of Ehtasham and Maham and Atif talking about the divorce of Ehtasham-Sehrish. Things are looking pretty bleak here for which we would have to wait till next week. You guys wait while I will try to arrange for some target killers for Maham-Atif.

Dialogue of the two episodes: Maan hai to lar lo aur ana tum dono ke beech honee naheen chahiye.

Kankar has finally reached its end, teaching Sikandar a lesson of his life and Rukhsar been sent to her husband but what is more amusing is its replacement for now. Been directed by Sakina Sammon, the drama is based  on Umera Ahmed’s write-up, while the production has been done by none other than, Momina Duraid.

Hum  TV has played wise enough to replace Kankar with this drama as there can be sensed an already set audience to welcome this new drama.

Celebrities Who Look Extra Handsome With Beard!

0

Ever heard of the famous saying, ‘If you are a man, look like a man’? While some of the male celebrities are known for wearing more makeup than female celebrities, there are a few good looking hunks in our entertainment industry who earn even more fan following for their changing looks, especially when they carry beard pretty well.

10

Here are 10 of my favorite stars who look extremely amazing in their manly looks with a beard on screen.

Have a look!

1) Atif Aslam

1

Atif seems to have had adopted this new look after his marriage and since then he is seen carrying this beardy look with him. Atif’s fan, however, love him for his vocals and watching him with or without a beard, both are equally exciting for them.

2) Fawad  Khan

2

This man enjoys a huge fan following for reasons undefined at times. Either it is his acting, his looks or his persona, he is now loved by drama lovers altogether. It is easy to predict that besides the requirement of the role, he prefer to keep a beard as he is casually spotted with a beard normally.

3) Shahid Afridi

3

Lala rules the hearts of cricket lovers and he surely is one of the legends of Pakistani cricket. On comparing his previous young looks with that of now’s, you will find that he has really groomed a lot and some of the credit for his good looks go to his beard too.

4) Imran  Abbas

4

It is more than a need for Imran Abbas to have a beard to make him look old. This young looking celebrity is often seen with a beardy most of the times and seriously, he looks better this way.

4) Mikaal Zulfiqar

5

No matter how much you doubt his acting credentials, Mikaal holds a charm which itself speaks on screen. This ‘Gora Munda’ seems better with a beard to me. He adopted this look in Manjali as Taimoor, and will again be seen carrying this beard in ‘Mohabbat Subah Ka Sitara’.

6) Adnan Siddiqui

6

Adnan is Adnan with no alternates, with no replacements. While the age seems to appear on face, Adnan’s beard makes him look even more gentle-more stylish.

7) Hamza Ali Abbasi

7

The Jack of all trades, the Afzal of Pyaare Afzal, the Waar guy, an actor, a director and a scriptwriter, Hamza Ali Abbasi has greatly attracted a decent fan following in late 2013. Even he looks even better in this look.

8) Danish Taimoor

8

Danish Taimoor has groomed really well as an actor and stands on number 8 in the list for me. It seems like Danish too has identified the secret of his looks and so is he seen with a beard most of time.

9) Agha Ali

9

The newest of all, Agha Ali has earned a considerable fan following for his acting skills. He looks good to me in all forms (*sighs*), but with a beard, he looks even better.

10) Osman Khalid Butt

10

Who knew that Humsafar’s parody will make him grow this much. That is how I first noticed him and since then, Osman has been working really hard to get his hands on reasonable ads, dramas and photoshoots. Neil Nitin Mukesh look alike Osman looks great with a little shave put on!

Its now time to hear from you readers, please share your favorite ones and feel free to comment on this list, Forum is all yours :)

An interview with Sania Maskatiya

0

Who doesn’t want to look fashionable?  But in order to follow the latest trends and taste of the market, one needs to put their boots on and look out what is currently popular in the world of fashion. To fulfill this desire of fashion lovers, an influx of young and energetic people are coming in the fashion industry as fashion designers. One such name is of “Sania Maskatiya”. Sania’s signature aesthetic has come to be regarded as a balance between elegance, comfort and practicality. Sania Maskatiya’s brand won its first Lux Style Award for the achievement in the fashion design-luxury prêt category and was also nominated for achievement in fashion design- prêt category at the coveted Lux Style Awards 2012. In 2013, the label earned two prestigious Lux Style Awards nominations in the Luxury Prêt and Prêt-a-Porter categories. Lets know more about her via an interview.

Untitled

1. How did u manage to make your name in fashion industry in such a small period of time?

Sania Maskatiya: I think God has been really kind to me and has rewarded me for all the sheer hard work and effort that is put in the business. We put in a lot of effort in whatever we do and we strive to provide our consumers the best possible product. I am thankful to our consumers and critics who appreciate the handwork that goes into each piece.

2. What inspired you to choose this profession? And what is the fashion philosophy behind your label?

Sania Maskatiya: Since childhood I was always fascinated by colour and patterns. I was one of those kids who loved scribbling and playing with colours and was attracted to pattern and even after so many years I still get excited by all of it. This is one of the main reasons why I got into designing. I specifically chose art subjects in my O’level and A‘levels, thus pursuing a career in design was nothing but obvious for me. My brand is synonymous with providing luxury and celebrating individual styles. We are known for our signature drapes and prints. We take pride in combining traditional techniques with contemporary silhouettes to create visually appealing designs.

3. Who is your inspiration in Fashion Industry, the ones you like to follow? Local and International both.

Sania Maskatiya: All the seniors in the industry like Bunto, Faiza Samee, Rizwan Beyg etc have always been a great source of inspiration as all these designers paved way for all the youngsters to pursue careers in fashion industry. Internationally, Chanel, Mary Katrantzou and Matthew Williamson are my favourites.

4. It must be a proud moment for you as Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy wore Saina Maskatiya at the Oscars. Do you plan to market your label to the masses, Internationally?

Sania Maskatiya: It was nice of Sharmeen to contact me for the clothes as I have always supported all that is Pakistan and with Sharmeen’s achievements a No! was not even an option .we were delighted when she wore the outfit to the Oscars. We do have an international clientele and we have multiple stockists around the globe. However, we would further like to increase our reach to international clients.

5. With a lot of Fashion Weeks happening around a year, do you think its a positive change for fashion in Pakistan or you see more repetition of same designs as designer don’t get time to prepare for the next fashion show?

Sania Maskatiya: I think competition is extremely healthy and with so many fashion shows happening, the Pakistani fashion scene is changing for good. I believe all the designers put in a lot of effort in putting up shows. Also, all the designers have a choice to participate in whichever fashion shows they want to and that way everyone has time to plan and produce collections.

6. Fashion weeks can commercialize and boost up Pakistan’s fashion industry at a large scale or do we have a long way to go?

Sania Maskatiya: Of course, fashion weeks are a major source of introducing your brand to the masses and I believe they have helped our industry in infinite ways.

7. How do you balance your professional life with personal life?

Sania Maskatiya: On the home front I have a fantastic support system of my mom and mother in-law. Work is a team effort, my amazingly talented design team and my business partner and brother Umair Tabani share the workload.

8. Any advice to fashion followers?

Sania Maskatiya: Take pride in who you are and don’t just follow trends blindly. Each one of us is unique in our own way, cherish that!

9. Some tips to the newcomers in Fashion Industry? The do’s and don’ts for them to be successful.

Sania Maskatiya: For all the young people I would like to quote that “there are no shortcuts to any place worth going”, therefore the only way to succeed is to work hard persistently. Along with hard work, it is extremely important to strive to learn new things every day.

Cheers

Celebrity Look A Like

0

It is said that every person in this world has seven look a likes. The case is the same for our celebrities as well. This article is based on my research and observation. I have found out some of the celebrities from around the world who resemble our Pakistani celebrities. During this research I was amazed by some of the pictures because they looked exactly the same. For a few seconds I was like Oh My God, this is truly unbelievable look for yourself and do not forget to give your feedback about it. If you have some other look a likes in mind then do let everyone know because this is entertaining information to share. Before starting I want to share this with you all that these celebrities may not be hundred percent a like but they do have the same outlook.

angelineimage 1

Angelina Jolie is a very talented Hollywood actress. She has a square shaped face with big almond eyes and protruding lips. These lips are her basic point of attraction and this is what makes people go crazy. Apart from her facial characteristics she has long hairs that are also very prominent. Now coming towards the Pakistani celebrity that somehow resembles Angelina Jolie, is Mahira Khan. The shape of their faces, the prominent jaw bone, the shape of their lips and the hair matches a lot. Their nose shape also matches a lot. Most of all the space between the nose and lips has the same shape which is quite interesting. Over all they look quite a like.

images normal_sham04

Moving on to the next observation I made, is of Akshay Kumar the highly paid Bollywood actor with the very popular Pakistani celebrity Shamoon Abbasi. The first look of these two celebrities matches a lot. The shape of their faces is very similar. Their forehead is broad and even the shape of their heads match. If we take a closer look the shape of their ears also match. I was astonished to see such a high level of resemblance. This is normally not observed while these two people talk but yeah when they are quiet then the similarity is clearly visible. Coming to the shape of their lips, it is also very clear that they match. The only difference I can feel is that Shamoon Abbasi has a broader face as compared to Akshay Kumar.

celina-jaitley-closeup73984703 999009_486453521435843_283313299_n

The next look a likes that I have observed are Celina Jaitley, a Bollywood actress with the Pakistani actress named Farah Ali. These two girls have a high level of similarity. Their hair, face, cheeks, nose and even eyes are 80 percent same which is very much confusing. I was very confused when I was going through their pictures. I have never seen such a high level of similarity. Farah Ali has a nose shape slightly different from Celina Jaitley otherwise their faces are very much similar.

Farah-Hussain-2 images (1)

The famous morning show host, Farah Saadya is the favorite of almost everybody who watches morning shows because her shows are very different from other morning shows. She has such a sweet smile that brightens everyone’s morning. Her look a like that I found is an Indian actress named Tina Desae. She is not very popular as far as I know but her face is very similar to that of Farah Saadya. Their eyes, smile, face shape and also their jaw bones have a lot of similarity. In some pictures they were not looking similar at all but in some of them their resemblance level highly increased.

403496_457365927649299_982646214_n images (2)

More over the famous Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan who mesmerizes everyone by his dancing and acting talent has a face shape similar to that of the Pakistani actor, Shaharyar Munawwar. Both of them have the same first impression. Their eye shape, nose shape and most of all face shape matches a lot. I was shocked because previously it never clicked in my mind that they both resemble each other but when I searched then I came to the conclusion that my identifying sense is weak because they both match each other a lot. Only a fool will think that they don’t.
These were some of the Pakistani celebrities with their look a likes from Hollywood and Bollywood. Apart from them, there are others too. For example; Syra Yusuf and Pixie Lott, Ayesha Alam and Cameron Diaz, Fawad Khan and Tom cruise and many more. I will be glad to hear you feedback. Let us combine our observations and come up with other interesting look a likes.

First Look Pakistan Idol- Paid jokers for TRP?

0

Most of the people in Pakistan were waiting for the first episode of Pakistan Idol including me! I was thrilled to see Bushra Ansari, Ali Azmat and Hadiqa Kiyani on such a platform. With the cheesy and quirky Bushra, pioneer of sufi rock Ali and the pop diva Hadiqa, this show was bound to make quite high waves across the entertainment industry. First episode generally left a good impression on the audience but it wasn’t described as “the greatest” either. There were few cliché’s which were quite obvious.

pak idol

Few of the participants seemed to follow some kind of script in a best joker competition! For example the one imitating Salman Khan! OMG showing off his “dollaaas” and the judges making fun of him! Yes it was hilarious, I was ROFL. Then there was this Madonna cum Lady Gaga cum eye to eye! I was like What is he trying to do or trying to prove! These kind of performances made me believe that that Geo is trying to make fun of people just to make some TRP. I do believe during the audition there would have some over enthusiastic young people doing this stunt just to get noticed or enjoy themselves but it was the job of the editor to show the real blunders not the scripted ones with prolonged introductions!

Coming to another important point, one of the participant was shown as a poor boy earning bread and butter for his family. His dream to participate in this show was shattered when he was rejected. I am not saying he should have been selected, but his state of affairs shouldn’t have been dramatized so much! They were proving a point that someone’s money or background doesn’t matter, but on the other hand they are looking for a complete package i.e. Good voice, singing skills, beauty, education and style. Now, this complete package cannot come without having extra bills in your pocket. Yes I know this is an entertainment show, the performers should have all these qualities, but dramatizing someone’s poorness is not what I wanted to see in a show. My mother was so touchy at seeing that poor kid that she said at least they should sympathize with the child. On one hand we are having multi million dollar show and on the other hand we are showing a poor family with not ample food to feed their children let alone health and education.

Apart from these few things, the show has started off well if not great, lets see how it proceeds further. this was just a start, I am hoping to see good quality Pakistani talent coming to limelight with this platform.
This is my opinion what is yours?

Numm – Episode 16

0

The tale of Mahjabeen and Qasim’s hair is finally moving forward but I am not sure where it is going. The good thing is that the dialogues are much more audible now so watching Numm isn’t as much of an ordeal as it was before. Now if only the director would remember to show the flashback scenes in every episode so that the mystery is solved soon. Mahjabeen’s statement about her helplessness with regards to avoiding bloodshed was very unconvincing considering that she could have done a great deal so many years back too. Had she not told her brother about the identity of the father of her child, all the bloodshed could have been avoided! So much for sacrificing eh?

numm1

This episode and the last one showed that the relationship between Mahjabeen and Wali is like that of a mother and son. Qasim compared himself with Wali in the last episode and tonight too Mahjabeen was reminded of Wali’s birthday while giving Qasim a scalp massage. I wonder why the director mislead the viewers by adding some scenes in the previous episodes which suggested that Wali and Mahjabeen may be attracted to each other or that they were like husband/wife. Mahjabeen is being portrayed as the amma ji now, therefore those scenes seem very irrelevant and misleading. One would have expected someone like Wali to have a big birthday party but apparently he only had Mahjabeen by his side on his tenth birthday. I really don’t understand the change in Wali’s behaviour, there was a time when he couldn’t stand Mahjabeen and now he is full of respect for her.

numm2

Bare Sahab’s helplessness seemed rather odd to me. I am quite certain that he could have done something to avoid all that happened. Wali is giving Mahjabeen her due share and apparently there is not much that Bare Sahab can do about it. I wonder if he will be able to do much once he finds out about Qasim. I am also wondering how come he does not know that Mahjabeen has a son. Mahjabeen is a completely different person when she is with Qasim; I definitely like her more when she is with him, things could have been even better if Qasim could act!

numm3

Many months have elapsed since the last episode but we hardly got to see any interaction between Neelam and Wali. I think showing how their relationship was developing was more important than showing how Neelam was getting along with her sister! Sure, Wali has been busy with his sugar mill but it seems most unlikely that someone like Neelam would have enough patience to sit back and wait for him to come visit. Neelam needs to stop acting like a 5 year old ASAP….my seven year old seems mature compared to Neelam!

Mahjabeen feels much more confident now that she has Wali by her side and bare Sahab is very interested in finding out the reason behind her newfound confidence. All the servants in this play stand out for some reason or the other! The lawyer who got the papers signed from Mahjabeen and the man who told Bare Sahab about the transfer of property were equally “distinctive” in their own way!

numm4

I have to say that this episode was much more bearable but nothing about it moved me in any way. When you regularly watch a play for 16 weeks usually it grows on you and you end up feeling something for some of the characters but Numm has completely failed to impress in any way at all. It stays on top of my biggest disappointments of the season list.

Wax statues of Bollywood actors

0

Bollywood has produced a number of fine actors right from the very beginning. It is an unhidden fact that Bollywood actors are appreciated all around the world including Pakistan. One can find crazy fans of Shahrukh khan, Ambitabh bachan, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareen Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and many others. From every section of our society we can easily find people who are die-hard fans of Indian actors. And when their films hit Pakistani cinemas they are the first ones to grab their tickets & book their seats. There is a strong influence of their culture and tradition in our society and therefore one can relate why the actors are so applauded.
Recently I was in conversation with one of such die-hard fan of Indian actors who visited the famous Madame Tussauds Museum in London. It was not surprising for me when I came to know that wax statues of a number of Indian actors have been kept in the museum and these statues are very popular among the visitors. Let us have a virtual look over these statues:

Pakistani Dramas v/s Indian Dramas

0

Pakistani Drama Industry (PDI) is doing way better than Indian Drama Industry (IDI). We all know that there was a time when Indian dramas were penetrating our society. At that time, revival of the PDI was needed. Then there came a period when PDI started to flourish and started to produce good dramas that became very popular among the people. Viewers started to switch back to Pakistani dramas and turned down the Indian culture. This period is termed as the “REVIVAL OF PDI”. There were some very basic reasons which drove the Pakistani viewers to start accepting the Pakistani dramas v/s Indian dramas. Some of them are:

i) Realistic v/s Unrealistic depiction
ii) Focus on story line v/s focus on make-overs
iii) Short time period v/s lengthy time period
iv) Sensible choice v/s Insensible choice of actors
v) Strong plot v/s weak plot

23

i) Realistic v/s Unrealistic depiction:

The Pakistani dramas were more realistic than the Indian dramas. The viewers can relate to the dramas. They depicted the true picture of their society, their problem and their issues whereas the Indian Dramas were un-realistic in nature so slowly and gradually they went unpopular and finally died out e.g Kasauti Zindagi Ki, Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu the, kahani ghar ghar ki etc. Today a great number of people from our society want to tune in Pakistani dramas channels rather than Indian drama channels because of this major reason

ii) Focus on story line v/s focus on make-overs:

There was more focus on make-overs, styles, costumes of the drama actors and renovation of sets in Indian dramas rather than storyline but Pakistani dramas were based on stories and the sets were also designed accordingly. Also the costumes chosen for the actors of a particular drama filmed in Pakistan was in relevance to the story line of the drama. This was lacking in Indian drama

iii) Limited & short time period v/s unlimited or lengthy time period:

The traditional Indian soap serials usually used to last for a long time (a year or two or even more sometimes). The viewers usually lost interest in watching such long engaging serials whereas Pakistani dramas were prepared with a defined scope, time period and were lesson oriented. Usually these lesson-oriented dramas got more popularity and acceptance from the viewers than former ones.

iv) Sensible choice v/s insensible choice of actors:

The choice of actors as per the role’s need and demand was ensured in Pakistani dramas. This aspect was lacked in Indian drama from the core. You would usually see a girly looked female actor performing the role of a mother in Indian dramas. Obviously, this kind of lack of sensibility from the selectors of actor was noticed by the viewers and was unacceptable, so people inclined towards Pakistani dramas which were more sensibly fabricated.

v) Strong plot v/s weak plot:

This is the fore-most triad which led to successful Pakistani Dramas. You can easily imagine a drama which consists of finest cast and crew and lacks a strong story-line, such kind of drama most probably never survives and fails to win over people.
By lying out some of the many factors which led to the triumph of PDI, I by no mean, claim that there weren’t and aren’t any unsuccessful Pakistani dramas. All I want to say is viewers, accept only those dramas which they think will live up to their expectations.

24

The PDI should understand, now to produce good stuff for their people else their efforts will go vain. I have seen some Pakistani dramas recently that are not doing well. The storyline is far away from reality, to name some “Rishtay kuch adhory se”, “Ishq hamari galioun mein” etc. It is high-time that the PDI realizes their flaws and try to fill up the left gaps else they will again loose their potential viewers.

What do you think about the current situation of PDI?

Have your say

Cheers

Kabhi Kabhi – Episode 12.

0

I honestly think that Samira Fazal should take a break or may be it’s going to be better if I don’t fall prey to the amazing cast that is hired to make hideous stories look good. Silvatein being one of the examples, I now think Kabhi Kabhi is going down the line too. Seems like the plot is missing & there is literally nothing to go ahead with therefore little things are being dragged to reach to the end of racing point of 20+ episodes.

Where this episode was a filler, it looked exactly like a last episode in which Sunny was in the limelight for being made fun off & the whole episode was dragged on it, this time it was Eeshal’s burnt hand that was a topic of everyone’s tragedy. I kept on wondering who actually deceives the watchman to meet the wife & when he entered the room, Eeshal looked oblivious. I mean she saw her father’s reaction at the hospital & all his yelling but still she was clueless at how her father is going to treat Arez. Any daughter knows where her father comes from therefore, Eeshal’s Eva-like behavior was a bit hard to digest. I am kind of confused that at times Eeshal looks absolutely strong who handles things perfectly but at times she is as spaced out as Eva that she forgets to check what’s been happening around. By this time Eeshal should’ve gotten a heed of what her father thinks of Arez but seems like there’s a time to it too.

Arez got fired with the help of his friend. That was one stone which hit the wall of predictability. I think it would’ve been better if Eeshal’s character had evolved in such a way where she could foresee where her father’s tangent was going. She should’ve done things to undo what her father was planning but to blindside her character in that respect is making it lose the charm. Otherwise, I remember I loved Eeshal’s character the most & still do but some changes for the better isn’t much to ask for.

I am still waiting to see the point of Eva being in the picture & waiting to see what Rehbar comes up with? Till now he is just finding himself win in petty things like making Eeshal’s marriage work with Arez even when his FIL (father-in-law) hates it, he is being reasonable with Eeshal to tick his FIL off. I think there should’ve been a bit more to his character.

Anyhow, this episode had nothing much to offer so I find it out of question to be discussing it too. I hope there’re some changes in either the pattern of the episodes or the characters because it’s getting tedious to just speak about things which aren’t progressing & are petty. Plus I hate the background music & OST. Looks like it’s some sort of an opera that we’re watching & it has some larger-than-life feel to it which doesn’t suit the drama which is based on gharelu masail without unke hall.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,

Pakistan Idol – First Impression!

0

Ohkay, so the most raved about, the most anticipated show of 2013 Pakistan Idol began & no doubt where at times it looked like a decent attempt, it fell flat as well. I really don’t understand why do Pakistanis have to over-do certain things. There looked like a lot more people who were forced to make an entry for the TRP’s but I may be wrong too because some people love being ridiculed as they are blinded by their over-confidence.

I have to say that the most decent judge in the panel of 3 was Hadiqa Kiyani. She seemed to-the-point, sophisticated & was giving judgements rationally. Ali Azmat was fine too but I expected more from him being the only male judge there. The only judge who was over-doing it was Bushra Ansari. With all due respect, she may have released a few albums which I never came across but yeah, heard her singing in some shows all these years, but by NO means she can be taken as a singing icon of Pakistan.

As all other Idol shows are followed globally, I am sure Pakistan Idol would make it there too, so the panel of judges should’ve been selected with utmost attention. I feel the only judge who seems to impress till now is Hadiqa Kiyani because she did give her YESES to those contestants who deserved but seems like Bushra Ansari had to say NO to every single person. I think she is being a bit too overly judgemental at the things which didn’t even come across as technicalities that she was pinpointing. Yes, Bushra Ansari even blessed us viewers by singing a few lines in order to correct a contestant but to add to her woes, her voice couldn’t even come through to us even with a help of mic. Making me feel more at how an inappropriate choice she was for that judging seat.

Mohib Mirza seems to be hosting a show, he was doing a fine job too but at times it looked like he was passing a few personal comments on the random people from the crowd. I think a host should be the most neutral person out there who shouldn’t  judge at all.

I think it could’ve been a far more better show if a bit more experienced singers judged it. It wasn’t necessary to pick all the Karachi based singers for selection of Pakistan Idol. I am wondering where did Rahet Fateh Ali Khan go when the very first Pakistan Idol was being planned because he has also judged a few shows in India so why wasn’t he approached or why didn’t he become a part of Pakistan Idol? Shafqat Amanat Ali was another person who would’ve looked perfect in that spot for judging. But nevertheless, I am definitely going to follow the show hoping when the actual selected lot hits to our screens, it becomes a better first attempt of Pakistanis under this title.

Have you say.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Aasmanon Pay Likha Episode 12 – A Heart Wrenching Episode!

0

Like most of us predicted, Zaheer-ud-deen passed away and his death left an impact on everybody’s life. The story has reached a turning point with Zaheer-ud-deen’s death, and I am glad the story is finally going to move forward from next episode.

Aaliyan needed this wake up call to realize the gravity of the situation. Aaliyan might be care-free/careless, but he is definitely not heartless. He completely supported Qudsiya during this testing time when the whole world has collapsed on her. She had put a brave face for her father, and now that her father is gone so has her strength. She needed someone’s support at this point, and Aaliyan was there for her throughout.

photo(4)

In the past two or three episodes, we have seen that Aaliyan had been completely fed up of the upheaval Qudsiya had created in his life and was pretty irritated by Qudsiya’s presence in his house. He took her to the hospital and took care of her for only Dudi’s sake, but this time Dudi did not ask him for anything. He stood by Qudsiya by his own free will, and in the process recognized the true faces of many people in his life.

apl new 4

He is finally realizing that he is surrounded by selfish people. It was the cruel words spoken by his father that ended Zaheer-ud-deen’s life, and he had absolutely no guilt. He was ashamed of his father, and he was pretty vocal about it. He did get a slap as an answer for his misbehavior, but he really did not care about it at the moment. He had not expected his father to stoop so low and had no regrets of standing up to him.

apl new 2

Another development (which made me really happy) was that Aaliyan is finally realizing that his feelings for Natasha are more out of necessity than love. He had been craving for love throughout his life, and when he got a drop of it from Natasha, he quickly grabbed it with both hands. His desperation for love made him blind to Natasha’s faults and how selfish she really is. But now slowly, the blinds are removing and he can finally see the stark truth about Natasha. He has started to question his feelings for her, and he would be more open about it to Dudi in the next episode.

apl new 5

Sajjal Ali completely stole the show this week. The way she broke down after her father’s death was truly heart wrenching to watch. All of Zaheer-ud-deen’s daughters were really attached to him, especially Qudsiya. She had not only lost her father but her support system, a friend and I simply loved the way Aaliyan offered her to share her troubles with him now. I simply loved the way he was genuinely worried about her health. But the main question is; will he stand by her now when she has no reason to be his wife anymore? Her father’s health was the main reason she had been staying in his house in the first place. Will Aaliyan be Qudsiya and her family’s support system or will he take a step back? These are some questions that have popped in my head and I hope we get the answer soon.

apl

He had offered to be her friend but she had declined. The shocking part came after that when he told her ‘Ek Kaam Karte Hai, Mein Apko Divorce Nahi Deta’. I do not know if he was joking or if he was serious, but I was really taken aback when he told her this.

apl new 3

I am sure about one thing though; Dudi will help Qudsiya in this situation and will not leave her alone in such hard times. She truly cares about the girl who is badly stuck in a serious situation that could impact her whole life.

One phase of this story has ended and I am eagerly looking forward to its next phase. It will be interesting to watch how the story will shape now.

Aseer Zadi Episode 16 – Review

0

We got to see a turn of events in last week’s episode. Maira and Shahab are both happy now that the truth has been proved in front of everybody. Both Maira and Shahab are on top of the world while Badi Sarkar and Peer Jalal are in shock.

Badi Sarkar is in a state of shock when Maira was proved right, but she discovered another truth that shook her to the core. She was devastated to hear that the so-called tradition in the family is a forced one, and she is not the true Badi Sarkar. Amna was the true Badi Sarkar, as she was the first one to bear the heir of the family, and this secret has been hidden from her all this time. She had blindly believed in the tradition, which was just an attempt to keep the karamat of the family going.

What shocked me the most was the discovery that Badi Sarkar is not insensitive as I thought; she was not in favor of what had been done to Amna all those years ago and was upset with Peer Jalal. Peer Jalal revealed the truth to Badi Sarkar, and also clarified that he had no hand in killing his own child. His parents were the real culprits behind it. I had thought that Badi Sarkar would follow her in-laws footsteps, but she clearly told Peer Jalal that she would have no hand in killing his son’s child.

Badi Sarkar had been ruling the haveli like a queen which she thought was her right, but now she has gotten to know that she was not the real queen in the first place. All her ego has been crushed in mere seconds, and she is unable to deal with the current situation. Even Amna and Naseemi have grown wings within the span of a day, and are now challenging Badi Sarkar’s authority.

The scene where they both dressed up was hilarious, and the best part was Badi Sarkar could not do a thing about it. She could just watch them enjoying themselves and indirectly taunting her. What made her angrier was that Peer Jalal did not say anything to them either. He easily gave them permission to go out.

Maira’s sudden change in attitude was pretty shocking for me. She is being too haughty and proud in my opinion. She should try to keep a low profile right now and not make enemies at the moment. The way she misbehaved with Badi Sarkar over a petty issue was not something Maira would normally do. Even the way she spoke Shahab emitted authority. She is not even Badi Sarkar yet, but is busy showing airs to everybody! I hope she does not misbehave with the rest of the people in the haveli. She had been advised to maintain distance from everybody by her mother, I hope this does not lead to a misunderstanding though. Her supporters might turn against her if she does not treat them well.

Fatima truly lost hope after hearing that Maira was telling the truth, but her parents won’t let their insult go so easily. Peer Jalal is tensed and thinking of ways to save the reputation of his family and Sikander will take advantage of this situation. Sikander has now gotten the upper hand and will blackmail Peer Jalal to keep his secret.

Will Badi Sarkar really leave the haveli and give her throne to someone else so easily?

Now let’s see what is in store for us next!

Do share your opinion about the episode!

Iman Ali, Fahad Mustafa and Sanam Saeed starrer Poora Chaand: Shooting in full swing!

0

Previously, we reported that a movie is being made in which the leads would be Iman Ali, Fahad Mustafa and Sanam Saeed. The movie is tentatively titled ‘Poora Chand’. The latest news is that the shooting of this movie is in full swing nowadays in Karachi. The shooting of this movie will be completed by January after which it will go through the post-production phase. The movie is produced under the banner of MiRaqsam media.

This will be the first big screen debut for Sanam Saeed and Fahad Mustafa. Iman Ali has already proved herself as an actress through her movies ‘Khuda Ke Liyeah’ and ‘Bol’. Her performance has been highly appreciated in both the movies. The movie is written by the veteran writer and director Sarmad Sehbai. It will be his debut as a movie writer; previously he had written theatre plays and TV plays. Some of his popular works are Fankar Gali, Toba Tek Singh, and Naya Qanoon. Sarmad is not a main-stream writer, and he has once stated when reprimanded as to why he has not produced more in recent years, his response was simple ‘the mainstream art mafia does not allow me to do my work. Ours is not a ‘visual’ society; its text orientated. The word is divine and sacred. There is too much body control for visuals as an art form to flourish here.’  Clearly, Poora Chand will not be a main-stream movie since it is penned down by Sarmad.

The movie will also star Manzar Sehbai, brother of Sarmad Sehbai. Manzar Sehbai made his film debut with 2011 with Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol opposite Humaima Malick, Mahira Khan, Atif Aslam and Iman Ali for which he won Lux Style Awards and SAARC Film Awards. In 2013, he appeared in Academy Award nominated film Zinda Bhaag opposite Amna Ilyas and Naseeruddin Shah, which was critically and commercially successful.

The movie is directed by Anjum Shehzad who has given us hits like Khuda aur Muhabbat, Talafi, Satrangi, the tarang telefilm ‘Armaan’, Mirat-Ul-Uroos and many more. He has also bagged two Lux Style Awards for best director for ‘Pehla Chand’ and ‘Woh Tees Din’. Anjum has proved his mettle from time to time and we can surely expect excellent direction for this movie.

We can expect to see Fahad Mustafa, Sanam Saeed and Iman Ali in some very promising roles. Sanam is seen in a completely new avatar judging from the stills of the movie. Fahad Mustafa has always done justice to all his roles, and we can expect the same for this movie. Iman Ali has also been preparing for her role since the past three months. We will also get to see a few surprising cameos in the movie. The details of the cast will be made official soon!

There are total five songs in the movie written by Sarmad Sehbai himself. This is purely a Pakistani movie with no outside singer or technicians involved. The movie will completely be shot in Pakistan and high-budgeted and pretty lavish sets have been made in a local studio in Karachi for the movie. The producers of the movie, Badar Ikram and Khurram Rana, are in talks with distributors for the movie. This movie will release sometime next year!

Here are some stills from the movie:

Senior Supporting Actresses

0

A drama is never complete without supporting characters, though they never receive the deserving applause and admiration like the leading characters they are equally talented and gifted. Supporting characters are wide ranging but the ones included in this article are characters of mothers, grandmothers, aunties etc. in short the senior supporting actresses.
Our industry is blessed with many actresses who have aided the industry to flour and prosper. Actresses like Bushra Ansari, Zeba Shehnaz, Saba Hameed, Zaheen Tahira, Tahira Wasti (late), Azra Sherwani (late), Perveen Akbar, Durdana Butt, Badar Khalil and Aisha Khan became associated with the industry at very early stages not only of Pakistan television but also of their lives. Some of the earlier actresses performed leading roles along the way as well however they performed side roles more frequently, ultimately giving us a permanent part of the essential ingredients of a drama. In the journey of drama industry actresses like Azra Aftab, Ismat Zaidi, Jahan Ara Hai, Sabahat Bukhari, Ghazala Javed, Sajida Syed, Seemi Pasha and many others joined the ever growing caravan.

It is with the help of these side characters that the protagonists appear more strong and well-constructed in a strong knitted plot. The web of supporting characters is usually initiator of complications in the story and helps in resolutions as well. Side characters also broaden the scope of dramas, giving insight to other aspects and scenarios of life imitations. A drawback of side characters can be that at times they are given more importance and space in the drama than the leading characters but it rarely happens. Most of the times these characters are similar giving little or no scope to the artists for utilizing their talents.

Doing the side characters have stamped their fates as mothers, grandmothers etc. Unfortunately most of these characters lack versatility and these actresses are always stuck with same benign, kind and caring or shrewd, cunning, manipulative and at times extremely evil roles. It is highly unjust that they are trapped in the snare of typecast. Though some of the actresses appear to be doing similar roles in every other play, actress like Saba Hameed, Samina Pirzada, Bushra Ansari and Hina Dilpazeer have earned the labels of most versatile actresses of the industry. Lately Nadia Afgan, a relatively young actress, has amazed the audiences with some very good and different performances.

Do share your favorite supporting actresses, the pros and cons of side characters and your views. Saba Hameed, Samina Pirzada, Samina Ahmed are among my favorites.

Kankar – The Finale

0

Everything about this last episode was spot on with the exception of the sudden change in Sikandar’s personality. Arzoo decided to give Sikandar another chance; which basically went to show that every woman is not brave enough to take a stand the way Kiran did. Kiran’s advice to Arzoo was very practical and it was basically a message to all the girls out there who maybe going through a similar situation. Taking a stand and being brave may look very heroic but one must not resort to grave measures unless that person has the courage to face the consequences of such an action.

k1

Sikandar and Kiran’s final meeting had to be the highlight of tonight’s episode. Kiran’s response to Sikandar’s proposal was just what the doctor ordered! Kiran’s mother was never convinced that her daughter had made the right decision but after knowing the truth about the way Sikandar had been treating Arzoo, she was fully convinced that Kiran did the right thing.

k5

Rukhsar’s track was wrapped up nicely. Her apology was honest and so was the way in which Adnan told her the affect her attitude had on his relationship with Kiran. There were times when Kiran doubted herself and thought that maybe she was the one at fault but the way things unfolded in tonight’s episode went to prove that she was right all along. Everything that Faiqa said to Shaista was music to my ears. The part about the way Shaista and Sikandar had made a joke out of Sikandar’s wrong attitude towards his wives was especially true.

k3

Kankar was one of those plays that gradually grew on me, it had a very strong message to convey to the audience but I have to admit that this message could have been conveyed in a more apt manner if the play was not stretched this much. What made Kankar stand out for me was the quality script and the superb acting. Everyone performed really well. Fahad Mustafa especially played a very difficult character very well. It was plain to see that he was really into his character. Sanam Baloch was phenomenal in every single scene. Uroosa Siddiqui is a natural performer, she never gives her viewers anything to complaint about. Hassan Niazi was the perfect choice for playing the role of Adnan. I am definitely looking forward to seeing more Maha Warsi, she has tons of potential. The entire team of actors gave their best performances. The only person whose talent was not exploited to the maximum was Behroze Sabzwari. I always felt that the relationship between Kiran and her father could have been much more meaningful and deep.

Rukhsar said in one of her conversations with Adnan and her mother that Sikandar used to beat Arzoo on regular basis but the viewer’s were given the impression that this was the first time that Sikandar hit Arzoo. I wish someone could have mentioned that Sikandar needed professional help for his condition because without that there is no hope for him.

Did you watch this last installment? Please share your views about it. I would like to thank everyone who followed the reviews and contributed to the discussions week after week….. Thank you so much.

Mahesh Bhatt and now Shahrukh Khan, both promote Indo-Pak relations!

0

Mahesh Bhatt has been an avid promoter of Indo-Pak relations since many years, and now Bollywood super-star Shahrukh Khan has also expressed his desire to visit Pakistan. Shahrukh has his roots from Pakistan as his father and his family hails from Peshawar. Shahrukh Khan is keen to take his three children to visit his family’s hometown, and wishes that the relation between Pakistan and India improves soon.

He expressed his desire to visit Pakistan when Pakistan’s former foreign minister Hinna Rabbani invited him to Pakistan to an event. He spoke a lot of good things about Peshawar which he had visited once in his teens with his father. He stated:

“My family is from Peshawar and few of them still live there. I would love to come to Peshawar and bring my children over because my father took me when I was 15 or 16. I still have some of the greatest memories of the time I spent with my father in Peshawar, Karachi and Lahore. I want to take my kids there”

Shahrukh Khan was born and raised in Delhi but his father, Taj Mohammad Khan came from Peshawar and was a freedom fighter. Shahrukh wants to bring his three kids, Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam to Pakistan to make them familiar with their roots.

“I hope with whatever issues and stresses we have… I hope we become friends, we become friendlier, we become like a family and one together.” said Shahrukh Khan.

He is a promoter of good relations between Pakistan and India and hopes that both the countries keep their culture differences aside and join hands. He further added:

“When I travel abroad, I notice it [cultural differences] even more, because sitting in your nation you can’t make out. But when I go to London, Dubai or US, you don’t even get to know who is from where – there’s no cultural difference. I think people should forget and continue to be what we used to be”

Another keen promoter of Indo-Pak relations is the popular Bollywood Director Mahesh Bhatt who has also made it a point to promote the talent in Pakistan by giving them a chance in Bollywood. Imran Abbas Naqvi, Sara Loren and Meera all have debuted in Bollywood through his movies along with many other singers.

Recently, he announced that he is going to produce a theatre play with actors from both India and Pakistan. The theatre play is named ‘Milne Do’. According to reports, ‘it will be an intense love story between two individuals from across the borders, and aims at promoting peace.’

Indian Actor Imran Zahid will be playing the male lead along with a female lead from Pakistan. The actors will perform live in cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.

Sharing his feelings regarding the promotion of peace between the two countries, Bhatt said, “I have always maintained that a movie or a play can be a greater vehicle of peace than all the lectures we give. Any message, if communicated through storytelling, touches a chord. This play will be an emotional transaction between industries on both sides.”

It is good to know that famous Bollywood personalities are keen to develop good relations with Pakistan!

The overall nominations are justified as they have given importance to shows from all channels. Underrated shows like Talkiyaan, Tamanna, Gohar-e-Nayab and Meri Saheli Meri Hamjoli are given recognition. There are, however, a few surprising things here and there too. It is surprising to see Waar not nominated this year since it is the highest grossing Pakistani movie ever. Also, in the theatre category the biggest play of the year, Dhaani (Featuring Sanam Saeed and Sarwat Gillani) is not nominated. In the best actress category, Sanam Saeed is nominated for Talkhiyaan and not Zindagi Gulzar Hai, very surprising indeed! They have also included the OST of Asmanon Pay Likha which is turning out to be the biggest show of 2013. In the makeup artist category, they have not nominated the most popular makeup artists; Natasha and Sabrina from Natasha Salon. It is also shocking to see Nida Yasir’s not been nominated for her morning show.

The public poll is still open. Everyone can vote for their favorite artists here:
