Coke Kahani Episode 7 – Mission accomplished!

0

Do I have to say again what an amazing show this is? It is 15 to 20 minutes of pure pleasure. Each character has its own charm and there is not a single scene that makes you bored. All the actors in this show have performed brilliantly and given their 100 percent, the new comers as well as the old ones. I never thought Muhammad Ahmed or Shamim Hilali would be able to do such good comedy. I have usually seen Shamim Hilali in negative or serious characters. Sonia Rehman and Faisal Rehman both are looking great together and so are Yasir Hussain and Maheen Rizvi as Beydil and Maria, and not to forget the ever green Jugno uncle played by Adnan Jaffer. Everyone’s comic timing is outstanding!

Now coming to the episode, Zoya is still trying to patch things up between her parents. She wants them to spend quality time with each other and sort things out. Asfand is trying his best to win over Maya. Poor guy is trying to make food to impress her! And the best part of the episode was the ‘shayari’ that Saad took from Beydil’s phone. I just could not stop laughing at this scene. It goes like:
“Kis Baat pe Khafa Ho, Mujhko Kiun Nahi Batati
Khuwaabo Main Aati Ho, Kamray Main Kiun Nahi Aati”

This scene is a must watch! The look on Asfand’s face when he read the card was priceless.

Saad is so blind. How can he not see that Ruqaiya likes him! Their car scene was a cute, lighthearted scene. Ruqaiya’s mum is again pestering her to meet a guy. Saad asks her if she wants to marry someone else, and she imagined confessing to him that she wants to marry him. This scene was extremely funny!

Rayaan has finally succeeded to get a sponsor. And who is the sponsor? Coca Cola of course! They are the actual sponsors of this show too. They have no doubt invested a lot in this show. Muhammad Ahmed’s script and Mehreen Jabbar’s direction has turned it into a master piece. I always thought Mehreen Jabbar was more of a serious director. She always did the same genre of plays like Vasl and Malaal. It is good to see that she is also very versatile. I never thought she could portray comedy so well on screen, and not to forget the dialogues. They are absolutely fantastic!

Another scene worth mentioning is the one where Saad, Ruqaiya, Zoya and Rayaan are interviewing people to employ in Al fonso. The magicians, the dancers, and that weird guy with the guitar, they all were hilarious! Another must watch scene.
It is still not clear why Maya left Asfand. They are trying to create an air of mystery around Asfand and Maya’s relationship. We got more insight as to why Maya left Asfand. She thinks that Asfand is an indifferent and a useless person who has not done a single thing properly in his life. We also got to see Asfand angry at Maya for the first time, he clearly tells her that you may think I am useless and indifferent but in reality I am just a very patient person. This is true! Asfand is seen as a very calm and patient person who rarely loses his composure. Maya was also seen trying to make Zoya admit of her intentions of patching things up between her parents. Zoya somehow managed to convince her mother that she has no such intentions. Phew! That was a close call.

Maya’s anger has also dissolved overtime. She is finally speaking to Asfand politely. She keeps on pestering him to tell the reason behind the selling of his restaurant. But everything he manages to change the topic. Why is he not telling her the reason? I guess it is because he does not want her to know that he took a loan for Zoya’s education. My guess is that he does not want Maya to feel bad or guilty about his situation.

How can I forget to mention Nusrat and Mutmain Sahab! I love the way Nusrat gets jealous when Mutmain Sahab goes to Nazia’s place (their tenant). These two are extremely cute! I am curious to know who this Nazia is now. Is she a friend of Asfand? There was pure jealousy on Maya’s face when she came searching for Asfand at their house. Let’s see what is in store for us next week! Till then, have a wonderful week!

Aik Nayee Cinderella Episode 9 – New Realizations

0

A lot of development was seen in the story in this episode. It was like someone just pushed the fast forward button from a slow motion mode. Meesha has finally realized what a fool she was to run after Mayer who did not take much interest in her. He played with her feelings and used her to make Zaini jealous. Meesha was too innocent to understand what was going on but Roman was clever enough to identify this oldest trick in the book; to get someone’s attention by showing interest in someone else. In this case, Mayer was trying to gain Zaini’s attention by taking interest in Meesha in front of her. Meesha has finally realized that there is no use running after someone and degrading oneself in the process. Roman was seen giving her a shoulder to cry. This was the cutest scene of the episode. Meesha is slowly realizing what Roman means in her life, how he has been there for her through thick and thin and helped her every time without asking for anything in return. She hates it when he talks to Ammie, or when Meher mentions Ammie and Roman’s marriage.

Roman was also seen trying to show Meesha that what she feels for Mayer is not love. When you love somebody, you get sad when you see them with someone else. Meesha has always been jealous or angry to see Zaini with Mayer, but never has been truly sad. But Roman’s theory did prove to be right as we did see Meesha getting very sad when Meher mentioned Ammie and Roman marriage.

I absolutely loved the flashbacks Meesha and Roman, both had of each other. It took her some time but she has finally realized who her true prince charming is. As Dado said, when you love somebody, you can share anything with them without any hesitation; they are the ones who give you the shoulder to cry on. It is easy to share all your worries and sorrows with them. This is when Meesha remembers Roman and how he has always been there for her to fix things when she is in trouble. He is the one who consoles her in her sorrows and helps to sort out her worries. Her attraction and likeness for Mayer was just a phase and would pass over time. Meesha, however, is still in the denial phase. She still thinks Roman is not a normal human being but a fairy man! How extremely naive of Meesha to still think this. The scene where Meesha gets jealous when Roman is talking to Ammie was a treat to watch. She did not like the fact that he was giving someone else attention other than her. Meesha is slowly developing feelings for him but will she ever accept these feelings and come out of her denial phase?

Meesha always had one dream; to marry a good looking, rich guy. When she wanted Mayer in her life, it was because he was the means to fulfill her dream. She was actually running after her dream which shattered when she came back to reality and this is what saddened her the most.

Zaini has proved to be a brilliant actress. She was able to win over Bano by faking some emotional dialogues which impressed Bano completely and she forgave her. Bano also agreed to get Mayer and Zaini married. Zaini and Meher are excited as for them it is like they had won a jackpot. They left no chance to insult Meesha and make her aware of her true place. I truly felt bad for her in these scenes.

Mayer may be smitten by Zaini but he cannot help but compare both of them. One is kind, loving, with a pure heart. She respects the poor and treats them well. The other is selfish, self centered and who has no respect for poor people and leaves no chance to ill treat them.

Okay, so my prediction was right. The man sent by Shah Baba is supposed to be paired with Ammie. Their scene was extremely cute! I hope Ammie also finds her prince charming in him. Although he is under the impression that Ammie is the girl he is looking for, when it is really Meesha that he is searching for. One more scene worth mentioning is that nightmare that Meesha sees all the time. Previously, it was never clear but now she finally saw the whole dream. The person she is running away from and who means her harm is none other than Mayer and her savior is Roman. Is this not enough to open her eyes?

The pre cap for the episode seems promising. Zaini has finally confessed that she is not Mayer’s ‘mystery girl’, but it is actually Meesha. Somewhere deep down Mayer always knew that Meesha was the girl he had met, but he was not ready to accept it. He has finally proposed to Meesha. Will Meesha accept the proposal? Or will she stay with Roman whom she truly loves? Dado is also aware of Roman’s feelings for Meesha and advices him to tell her. Will he finally confess? Or will it be too late? I am eagerly looking forward to the next episode.

Bari Appa Episode 14 – Typicality of Zubaida revealed

0

So this was the very first day of Neelam at Farman’s home & it was full of shocks for her as well as for the viewers too.

All this while I have seen the character of Zubaida as someone who’s dominant but caring at the same time & her character had so many other positive dimensions that made her likeable but to see the streak of jealousy & the negativity was not a treat to watch. It seems like now the director or the writer is trying to make Zubaida look bad in front of ‘sati savitri’ Neelam who for the sake of her husband would tolerate anything just to make her mark in the hearts of the whole family.

I thought Zubaida’s character was way too ahead of all such typicality that we see in many women dominant dramas but to see the similar actions of Zubaida made me feel like I wasn’t watching something new. Ohkay, we get it that Zubaida is hurt & can not accept the defeat in terms of Neelam but it would’ve been better if they had shown that Zubaida accepted the arrival of Neelam & her relation with Farman with all the grace & dignity with which she announced their wedding & how she whole-heartedly introduced Neelam to her family.

Zubaida really doesn’t need to stoop to such a level which is so unlike her because all this while everyone has loved the main trait of her nature & that is dignity. Just to snatch useless Farmaan from Neelam she is twisting her words which seems so uninteresting. I felt that the scene where Farman, Zubaida & Neelam are in conversation was handled so poorly with such confusing dialogues that no one could actually make out where it was going & what was the main reason of Farman calling Neelam so that Zubaida could shed off her frustration at her? Zubaida kept on blowing things out of proportion & all the things went into the thin-air because they made no sense at all. I wish the dialogues were a bit better or the direction was paid heed to because nothing seemed to be in the right place & it seemed totally unnecessary.

Sharmeen disappointed big time with her acting. She seemed so artificial & someone who really can not act. All this while I found her scenes pretty average but the scenes in this episode & her dialogue delivery were a big downer. She should at least work a bit on her emotional scenes because I really like the way she talks but in today’s episode she came as a shock to me.

I really hate to see the fact that they have brought Bari Appa to such extreme edge. Zubaida is shown as a complete devil where as Neelam is being shown as an angel who can’t do anything wrong & is way too polite. I think they should maintain a balance that Zubaida should not make a mountain out of molehill & Neelam should take a stand & Farman can go wherever he want to because he is useless.

I feel Farman actually should start to handle the conflicts a bit wisely & without the favoring Zubaida. All this while we see him as a stammerer who can not utter a single word in front of Zubaida but on the other hand we see his eyes bulging out with anger for Neelam. He has spent 25 years with Zubaida & he knows that it was her attitude which drove him towards Neelam. So, he should man-up a bit & should stop taking sides with Zubaida because it was him who approached Neelam for marriage.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Tanhaiyan Naye Silsilay Episode 9 – Extremely Engaging & Funny

This latest episode opened with Kabacha attaining the impossible; making Faraan uncle smile and restoring his faith in the people around him. I absolutely loved this first scene, it was touching and sweet. Kabacha is spot on with his ‘kabhi ap mere dil se khelti hai, kabhi meri jaan se’ dialogues and the poor man is facing a predicament now with Sanya telling him she will kill him if Faraan uncle and Aani move out! Marina Khan and Behroze Sabzwari still have the same chemistry which they did years back and you can’t help but smile every time these two come on screen.

Why does Zeenia have such a wrong impression of her father? She actually expects him to be interested in other women. I have a feeling that she derived the wrong conclusions from the arguments that Zain and Zara had in the past. When Sofia said to Zain “kiya tumhei isi liye tu use dekh ke ghussa ata hai kyun ke vo Zara ke jaisi lagti hai”, it really made me think what she meant. There is definitely a lot of mystery surrounding this family and it just makes me want to know more. Syra Yusef and Alishba Yusef make the perfect sisters on screen. Shehryaar Munawar’s acting was much more convincing today and he acted perfectly all through the “interview’ scene with Serena’s father. I really like Zarak’s character; he is a very patriotic person and is very positive as well. Zeenia has finally approved of him and we also found out that Zain also knows Zarak’s family. Zeenia refuses to stay in Pakistan and Zarak cannot hear anything against his country. Mona and Serena’s commentary in the background when Zarak and Zeenia are having an argument just added to the fun. The script has been brilliantly written and the acting and direction is just as good.

Faraan uncle is finally out of his room and actively participating in what is happening around the house. Zeenia is already willing to make changes for Zarak and the way Sanya convinced her to wear shalwar kameez was so appropriate. Later on when Bibi jaan says that she will not leave without getting the two engaged, Zain looks at all the elders in the room before saying yes. These are small details which we really don’t get to see that often anymore. The engagement scene was very nicely done and it looked like there were happy times ahead. Zain really needs to act like a grown up and sort things out with Zeenia.

In my opinion this latest episode was the best one so far. Shehryaar Munawar’s acting is improving by leaps and bounds and I am looking forward to seeing more of him. I really missed the Kishmish/Serena scenes today and I hope we get to see enough of them in the next episode. Kabacha’s dialogues are so in line with his character and so are Sanya’s. They are the same people there were so many years back. TNS is just getting better and making me smile without even trying very hard.

Meera’s House Sealed for Not paying Income Tax!

0

Being in limelight often brings a great deal of embarrassment, especially when the celebrities try to present themselves what they are actually not. The lady of Lollywood, Meera has again founded herself in a real trouble as her house as been sealed few hours back for not paying the incomes tax since a long time.

Mera Yaqeen Episode 20 – Brilliant Episode

0

A new chapter has finally begun and that too in the second last episode. It should have begun a long time ago. I absolutely love the direction and dialogues of this serial. Sarmat Khoosat has not done a bad job. But the only flaw is the flow of the story and the pace of the show. Sawera Nadeem was definitely the star of the episode. Her acting, poise and attitude was superb and worth an applause. I do not think the role of Maha could have been played so well by any other actress.

Maha can finally stand on her feet and as predicted she has started to make Nazish’s life even more miserable. Even her father was seen upset by her behavior towards Nazish and told her to stop degrading her because you are no one to make someone’s life or destroy it; it is all in God’s hands. I completely agree with him! Maha has been through so much but her proud and selfish nature is still intact, she still considers herself above Nazish in every way. I have lost hope that she will ever value Nazish. She has blamed Nazish for her paralyzed condition and thinks that Nazish has always been envious of her when in reality, she has always been a true friend to her. She is still refusing to accept Nazish’s status as Asfand’s wife. She will never accept her as a part of her family, this was seen when she did not let her come in the family picture taken at the party.

Maha is making every possible attempt to separate the two. She was seen ruining the birthday plans of Nazish and it was the first time that Nazish got very upset. She even took the gift that Asfand bought for Nazish! How selfish of her. However, the kids managed to cheer Nazish up. I loved this scene of the episode. She has won their heart wholly and completely. Her heart is very pure and that is why people start liking her. It is an art in itself to make place in people’s heart and this is what I like about her character, she never thinks bad for anyone. She accepts everything that God has given to her and never complain about anything. The person I truly feel bad for is Asfand; he is having a very hard time maintaining a balance with Maha playing her games. Poor guy is sick and tired of the taunts he gets from Maha all the time. Hats off to his patience!

Even after what Maha did to Nazish, she still decorated her whole room and shifted Asfand to her room. How can Maha not see what a big heart she has? Asfand was seen upset at her decision, as it would be virtually impossible for him to come to her now. She wanted to give Maha what was already hers and make her happy but will Maha ever do the same for her?
Asfand is also trying to make Maha understand of his situation and clearing her doubts and the insecurities that she has in her mind. She thinks she no longer holds the same position in his life, as according to her it has been taken by Nazish. Asfand clearly told her that you are not just ‘part of my life, but a part of my being.’ What else can he possibly say to make her believe that he is telling the truth? Even after her rude behavior and constant taunts and insults he still loves her. Nazish is a part of his life but this does not mean he does not love her anymore.

The most annoying part of the episode was when Nazish’s friend Amna again started to give her ‘advice’ to leave Asfand and go back to Ahmer and Nazish was seen pondering over the idea. I really hope she does not take any foolish step and regret later. Even Asfand is irritated by her constant sacrifice for Maha. She is willing to give everything to Maha without fighting for her rights. Even the nurse has advised her not to give up so easily. This is again a difficult test in her life that she has to pass with flying colors, not by giving up but by fighting till the end.

On the whole, the episode was very good. I wish they had not stretched the serial so much. What could have easily been covered in 12 to 15 episodes, they took 20 episodes to cover it. I also felt that the editing of the scenes were not synchronized and the scenes were totally out of order. It was pretty obvious and it killed the charm of the scenes.

The serial is nearing towards its end now. This was the second last episode. The preview for the last episode is pretty shocking. Asfand has finally lost his patience and has shown Maha the mirror and she has left Asfand and went away. All this was shown in the preview for the next episode. Has Maha finally realized her fault? Will she come back? We have a whole week to wait for the answers.

Zindagi Gulzar hai Episode 4 – Spot On!

When we were introduced to Zaroon’s character in the first episode, the impression that everyone’s comments about Zaroon gave was that he is a very irresponsible person but until now Zaroon comes across as a very responsible individual. He is very conscious about his grades in college, worries about the relationship his parents have and also looks out for his sister in his own way. I fail to understand why everyone tags Zaroon as reckless, in my opinion he is anything but that. It was strange to see Zaroon wonder just why Osama was taking so much interest in a girl like Kashaf who has “average looks, average personality and an average background”, given the fact that it is Kashaf more than anyone else who is the driving force behind Zaroon putting in so much effort into his studies. Zaroon cannot help but add a line or two about this average girl in his diary every night. While Asmara is putting Zaroon to sleep (literally; the scene where they are talking on the phone and he wants to hang up because he is too sleepy all of a sudden) Kashaf’s grades are making him stay up till late so that he can be ahead of the game. I can say with all certainty that although very unconsciously but at this time Kashaf is influencing Zaroon’s life in many more ways than Asmara or any of his other friends. Does Zaroon have double standards or was he merely a stating a fact when he told Sara that it was okay for a man to come home late but not for a girl? I think deep down Zaroon is indeed a very typical man but also one who is extremely sensitive and caring. Asmara made repeated references in this and the previous episodes also of Zaroon’s excessive mingling with girls and just when I started wondering whether there was any truth in what she said, we saw that she indeed was right. I find it rather odd that Zaroon is always complaining about the opposite gender and at the same time he is quite at ease with them too. I guess this man does not know himself as well as he would think he does.

We saw Rafia thinking of all the things her husband and his brother said to her. What I gathered from that particular scene was that while she felt very hurt by what they said but at the same time it seemed like she was also evaluating her own behavior and thinking whether she was actually right in not letting her husband have a say in some of the most important decisions in their daughters’ lives. People like Rafia who are so fair, sensitive and caring always put themselves on the pedestal before they judge anyone else. Rafia’s disapproval of the sifarish her husband sent went to show that she will never compromise on her principles no matter what. All of Samina Peerzada’s scenes were beyond exceptional; she has amazing talent and manages to portray every character assigned to her with ease. Acting comes naturally to her and she is one of those actors in our industry who truly make you feel swollen with pride. The confrontation between Rafia and Murtaza was extremely emotional and the aftermath was even more so. The way Rafia’s daughters come to console her every time their father leaves their mother broken and hurt is so heart touching. These daughters really are a blessing for Rafia and Murtaza is very unfortunate that he fails to give her daughters the love and credit they deserve. Kashaf takes a stand for her mother and I am sure we could all tell that Rafia did not for a second think that what her daughter did was wrong in any way.

Does Kashaf lack basic manners or is she too matter of fact? The way she does not even respond nicely to her “friend’s” questions and also the manner in which she responds to Osama’s apology suggests that whatever Kashaf does is purely unintentional,. Her actions are not meant to hurt anyone, she just does not know better. When Maria tells Kashaf she is “ajeeb”, she does not even think that Maria was talking about her personality and not her appearance. Now that is what I call confidence! Kashaf may question her looks but she never questions her attitude towards people, she feels she has no reason to go out of her way and be nice to people. Maybe because she thinks that everyone else around her is more fortunate than her so it would not make a difference to them whether or not Kashaf is nice to them. The way Kashaf questions her looks later and asks her sister what was wrong with her was another scene that was very well done. I absolutely love the relationship between the three sisters and their mother. Even when Kashaf is confronting her father although her words are harsh but her expressions suggest that she had to muster up all the courage she had in order to confront her father.

Try as they may the fact is that Zaroon and his friends find it impossible to ignore Kashaf. She maybe a very average girl compared to them but she does not give them attention like everyone else does and I think that is getting to everyone more than anything else. Fawad Khan’s expressions in the scene where Osama is apologizing to Kashaf and later on too, made me chuckle; no doubt acting is just as much about expressions as it is about dialogue delivery. I will definitely watch that scene over and over again. I must also add that Sheheryaar Munawar was quite good in today’s episode and he gave me nothing to complain about. I am glad I can look forward to seeing more of him too now.

One more thing we learnt in today’s episode was that Ghazala does not know her son at all. She thinks that Zaroon will happily agree to the engagement. On the other hand the heart to heart conversations that the son and father have often have made Zaroon’s father realize that his son would never marry someone like Asmara.

This was another superb episode of Zindagi Gulzar Hai, everything was perfect like always. The direction is beyond exceptional and a big shout out to all the actors and the entire team for coming up to the expectations of the audience. Umera Ahmed’s script coupled with Sultana Siddiqui’s direction really has made this serial something very special. Like always, I cannot wait for the next episode.

Morning Shows- Reality or Drama?

0

The clock strike 9 in the morning and the Pakistani audience is given a list of various morning shows to choose from. This trend of morning shows started from the famous Nadia Khan Show on Geo TV. Since then the morning shows have been much watched and have blended elements of interviews of most desirable celebrities, discussions of fashion trends, beauty tips, etc. However, the increasing competitive morning shows in race to increase their ratings have compelled the morning shows to try new stuff for their audience to stay glued to them and attract many others.

Ek Tamanna La Hasil Si Episode 12 – Interesting except some details.

Ohkay well the serial is getting somewhat interesting. I actually find myself liking it & don’t find it hard to watch at least once. The story is taking its twists & turns but I guess some of the content shown in the drama could’ve been sugar-coated or presented in a less dramatic manner.

Nadia & Mohsin got the time for themselves & got to confess their feelings. Nadia has taken a few steps to encourage Mohsin towards her & I guess it is a duty of every wife to do that. Mohsin seems to have rekindled the feelings he had for Nadia but oppressed them because of his mother. Khala’s help to Nadia took a toll on her & she had to pay the price but I must say the way Ramla & Ahsan tackled the situation was brilliant. I liked the scene where Ramla & Ahsan clearly mentioned in front of Mohsin that the way Nadia is being mistreated is intolerable & Ruqaiyya should stop.

Ruqaiyya has clearly told her neighbour that she is now willing to get Mohsin married again because Nadia couldn’t give her a grandchild till now. I feel some of the details in this drama are gruesome & could’ve been handled in a proper way with some lesser details because the way they clearly talk about Nadia & Mohsin’s relation is a bit awkward. Everyone knows what they are referring to so they can cut the part where they have to explain every time that what Nadia goes through & how a distance is maintained between the couple because of the Mother in law.

I really couldn’t believe when I saw the promotion of amulets (taveez). I really couldn’t stop wondering about the Hadith where it is clearly mentioned that the Women would be the dwellers of Hell in a greater number as compared to men & this is going to be the main reason because they would involve themselves in Shirk. I know many would not agree but I fail to understand that how can a man-written piece of paper improve someone’s condition or relation? Nadia took the paper & dipped it in the food so that her in laws would start loving her? This is totally beyond the concept of Quran Majeed & Sunnah, so why can’t the writers or the whole team involved in the making can point out about it & cut this promotion of Shirk out of their dramas. No doubt there’s a trend of literally buying the amulets these days in Pakistan but showing it on TV might encourage the people who already have a feeble iman on Allah. They on their own are showing the reality but to show it in a positive light that the in laws actually started loving Nadia because of the amulet is despicable. No no man can improve the condition of other fellow being let alone make others love him/her. I condemn & I hope that the drama makers stop showing such immorality in our dramas & I pray for those who seek help from others except Allah.

The preview of the next episode was interesting too & we saw Ali making some plans with his girlfriend so that Hira can take divorce from him & once again Nadia is going to be the target. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Kahi Unkahi Episode 7 – Pacing Up

0

Finally after a a good amount of time Sherry has at last made his entry in the drama as a grown up. I enjoyed this episode as it seemed to move a bit faster & had something new to offer as well.

Sherry has arrived with a surprise & now Mr. Kamal seems to be a bit more relaxed than usual because now he sees both of his sons independent & well-groomed. But one thing that bothers me is Ansar’s attitude. Sherry is the one who stayed away from his parents but has become a gentleman in literal sense, he’s soft spoken & genteel. Even though he was away from his parents but seems like his Khala did a wonderful job in his upbringing but when I see Ansar, all I see is his conceitedness & arrogance. Does this mean that Mr. & Mrs. Kamal failed as a parent? Because it was Ansar who got to stay with them through out his life & is the eldest son. He also had his parents with him through thick & thin & got everything on a golden platter but why is he acting so strange & weird? Where did he pick all these bad habits from?

Ohkay, Anam firstly claimed that she has nothing to do with Shahzeb but now has taken the whole matter personally. She is furious & so is her mother, who is still forcing her to show interest in Shahzeb. I am amazed at Shahzeb’s sister, who happens to be Anam’s best friend. All the friends actually know the nature of other friends but she keeps on calling & giving her bits & pieces about the happenings at her home, which seems a bit amusing. Seems like Anam actually has nothing better to do & has never had any ‘rishta’ before too that’s why she’s taking this Shahzeb episode way too seriously.

I couldn’t quiet understand what was the reaction of Ansar’s colleague Seema when she found out about his wedding & why did she talk against it? I think they need to clarify this matter in the upcoming episodes because it can’t be left unnoticed. Anam seems to have impressed Sherry a lot that too in their first meeting but while watching that scene I couldn’t help but wonder how easily appearances can deceive  Anam at the very first impression may seem like a confident & refined young lady but actually has a lot of weaknesses. I think Sherry & Anam are going to have a lot more than just a friendship but it wouldn’t be appreciated much, obviously because of Anam.

Finally, Sherry’s arrival wasn’t as bad in regards to Zoya. He actually started reminiscing & remembered a few parts of his childhood & the major part was Zoya. At first when he talked to his father about who their driver was, seemed like an unnecessary fix because all this while when he was away we heard his mother often talk to him on phone about Bashir Driver in many ways, but when he asked his father about him I felt like ‘c’mon not again’. But finally after seeing his school he recollected all the memories associated to his childhood & Zoya, which I feel was something natural & exactly how it should have been dealt.

Ansar has now clearly talked to Zoya about how he feels & what sort of attention he looks forward to from Zoya. I feel Zoya has always been really close to her father, so why is she hiding about Ansar from him? She was the one who straight away rejected the proposal of her cousin in front of her father & has been upfront about everything but why is she hesitating in telling him now?

Zoya has had many guys who have shown interest in her but it is clearly seen that it’s Sherry who Zoya actually likes. Their first meeting after ages was a bit dramatic & filmy but it was good to see that they both have introduced themselves. At least they didn’t drag this matter to the next episode. I guess Sherry will now get cautious & hesitant towards Zoya after seeing the furious reaction of Mr. Kamal.

The preview of next episode is really interesting as well. Anam has openly suggested in front of Sherry’s family that her mother thinks they make a very good couple. It’s going to be really interesting. I see everyone doing a great job & Sherry has to show a bit more in terms of acting. Otherwise, my ratings are 4 stars for this episode.

Noor by Geo Tv – the Turkish ‘Humsafar’

0

There has been uproar since Turkish Dramas started launching on every other Pakistani channel. It was initiated by Urdu1, then Express followed it and now Geo TV introduced a new show Noor. I doubt people will stop watching Pakistani Dramas just because a few Turkish shows were launched. Pakistani Dramas will always remain our first priority. Pakistani Drama viewership is too strong to be affected by a few foreign shows but I would agree with the Pakistani stars that have raised their voice against these shows, that it is unfair to them.

Noor is a hit Turkish drama and has been dubbed in various languages and played all across Arabic countries. It was originally aired in 2005-2007. Its original name is “Gümüş” but was aired with the title Noor in the Arabic World and become a household name everywhere. It has also been played in countries like Saudi Arabia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, and Albania with different titles. It would not be wrong to say that it is the ‘Humsafar’ of the Arabic World. In Saudi Arabia alone, 3-4 million viewers admit to watching the program daily on the Saudi-owned MBC channel. The show’s final episode attracted a record 85 million Arab viewers. In Bulgaria, Noor was also very popular and every episode was watched by at least 2 million viewers. This show encouraged Arabs to visit Turkey and meet their favourite stars, Kivanc and Songul.

The Turkish drama Noor revolves around Mehmet played by Kivanc Tatlitug, who belongs to a rich family which is completely dominated by his grandfather. Mehmet has lost his love Nihat in a car accident and he had never recovered from the shock, his life has become meaningless ever since. His grandfather forces him to marry Noor (Songul Oden), a simple girl from a small town. Mehmet ends up leaving Noor at the altar, but eventually marry her but never truly accept her because for him she was ‘not his wife but his grandfather’s daughter in law’. The story is about Noor’s struggle to make a place in Mehmet’s life and become familiar with the ways of living of the upper class family.
I liked the OST of Noor. Its melody is beautiful and catchy. It is composed by Waqar Ali and sung by Alycia Dias. The melody is taken from the original drama and I must say it is beautiful.

The first episode seemed interesting. The play is very well dubbed in Urdu. And the main attraction of this show is Kivanc Tatlitug, who has become popular in Pakistan through his show Ishq e Mamnu, which went off air recently. Another of his show Manahil aur Khalil also launched on Express the same day as Noor. Will both these shows manage to make a place in viewer’s heart? I foresee a neck to neck competition between these two shows.

Geo TV has invested a lot in its promotion. You can see the advertisement played in every break. Will it be as famous as Ishq e Mamnu? Well the answer is ‘only time will tell.’

Ek Nayee Cinderella Episode 8 – Review

0

An enchanting world of imagination presented in fairy tales is not easy to showcase visually. I can safely say that Aik Nayee Cinderella captures the magnificence of a rousing saga with utmost elegance. It bears the poise of a Victorian romance and boasts a richness that is entrancing. Characters such Mayer and Bano exhibit a great regality in their mannerisms and way of dressing, rendering their respective roles with aplomb and finesse.

The viewer gets absorbed into a stirring visual experience, one that is larger than life, quaint and heartwarming. The haunting background score is the soul of the serial that enhances its magic and the poignant performances lift the mesmerizing scenes.

Today’s episode especially was a visual treat, with the wilderness of Murree captured in its true essence inimitably, both in its tranquil low light and lustrous daylight, painting a heavenly picture. Kudos to Haissam Hussain for possessing such an artistic eye.

Some of the noteworthy picturesque scenes include the sequence of the rippling pond in which Meesha is pelting stones and shots of the lush green forest where the protagonists are interacting with each other. There was a spellbinding indoor sequence in which Mayer welcomes home his mother, as the room glows in the afternoon light that bodes well with the pastel shades of the actor’s clothing and makes the whole sequence very soothing to watch.

The episode had a lot of romantic moments which were fleshed out with aplomb.
Faiza Iftikhar’s story is carrying forward so unexpectedly and she writes the scenes in a way that injects them with a blazing energy. The screenplay never becomes sluggish which is a great achievement on her part.

The backdrop of the sublime evening setting of the mountainous backdrop awash in inky blue light was picture perfect for the interaction between Mayer and Meesha, who are gradually getting gripped by passion.

There was a delicate interplay of expressions between them and an incorporation of gestures such as Mayer walking towards an anxious Meesha with an intense look on his face and gradually covering her eyes with his hands to give her a surprise. They were consequently able to generate moments of profound intimacy in their scenes in a manner that is rarely seen on television in this part of the world.

There was again a lot of depth in the scene where Mayer looks at Zaini with his anger waning and morphing into concern, him gradually wiping off Zaini’s tears and Zaini following him gleefully with her tear smudged, red eyes.

Mayer is entangled in a dilemma as he draws closer to Meesha but finds it hard to let go of his strong infatuation for the conceited and beautiful Zaini. Osman Khalid Butt continues to reaffirm his mark as an actor par excellence who is able to engender a great intensity without too many expressions and is always in command of his character, gliding through the scenes with ease and impressing greatly in the process. In this episode he without a doubt steals the show with his nuanced acting.

Maya is a ball of energy and her boisterous mannerisms ignite many of the scenes with an endearing charm.

Meanwhile, Meesha’s happiness knows no bounds and she is reveling in her sense of accomplishment of finally getting Mayer to reciprocate her longstanding feelings.

Zaini in a desperate attempt to cling on to an irate Mayer apologizes to him and proclaims her love for him which melts his heart.

Meesha is again left in a lurch and Romaan is the shoulder to cry on.

Shrewd as she is Zaini quickly notices Mayer’s contemplation and doubt which are a result of his equation with Meesha but Zaini accuses Bano of poisoning him against her which unravels into an altercation between Zaini and Mayer yet again.

Mayer is in the climax of the episode is seen uttering sweet nothings to a dreamy-eyed Meesha so as to make Zaini envious, who is seething and observing the two.

Mukarram Kaleem and Qavi Khan are two men on a mission but the mystery surrounding their plans continues to intrigue viewers and is something which is likely to add a new dimension to this play. The feel of their scenes hitherto is quite cryptic.

Romaan continues to counsel Meesha but simultaneously is secretly smitten by her. Amy’s hopes of winning Roman over are dashed when he reveals that he already is in love with someone.

Faizan Khawaja is a complete natural and is very comfortable in his character which makes it quite realistic. He knows how to use the right expressions at the right time without going overboard and comes across as quite likeable.

The serial gets more and more interesting with every passing episode, making the viewers wait for the next one with greater anticipation.

The makers of this serial have dared to venture into precarious territory as this genre is relatively new for Pakistani dramas. The play has been embraced with open arms by the audience as good television, be it whatever category, is always watched.

Television in the West is constantly coming up with new and interesting stories dabbling with romance, action, comedy and drama (Seinfeld, The Newsroom, Entourage, Lost, and Game of Thrones among others). Drama producers in Pakistan though are content with the same stories of romance and family issues time and again. In the process they underestimate the taste and sensibility of viewers, who it must be noted, are exposed to foreign television in today’s globalised world.

Here’s hoping that more filmmakers experiment with new styles and scripts to gradually move the industry out of the rut of hackneyed plots. Though plays are visually impressive, capitalizing on latest technology, their content must be equally potent for the drama industry to truly become creative and robust.

 Syed Abbas Hussain.

The Positives That Make Our Dramas HIT.

0

Lately most of us have discussed about the negativities that are being shown in our dramas & almost all the viewers condemn it, but it’s been a while that we’ve spoken about the positivity & those qualities that make us all fall in love with our dramas. It’s my little effort to recollect the memories & the positive feelings that we have about our dramas & what are exactly those things that make us end up being such a die heart fan of our Pakistani dramas.

I believe taking names of certain dramas would confine the main reason of this article because no matter what it’s an undoubted fact that Pakistani Drama Industry has produced thousands of dramas that are beyond perfection, so mentioning a certain drama wouldn’t help as we’d definitely be leaving a lot of dramas unnoticed plus I am talking about our dramas as a whole because if one drama has a good story the other has good dialogues, so let’s talk about our dramas in general.

1. The very first thing that I feel has always been a pillar in the popularity of Pakistani Dramas is a “SCRIPT”. All this while whenever we talk about even the olden golden dramas of Pakistan or even the new ones I feel those dramas always get a special attention of the viewers because of a good script. Everyone demands a perfect script & those dramas especially who have a good storyline/script no doubt end up being the favourite of the viewers.

2. Second in my list would be the “RELATE-ABLE CHARACTERS”. I feel this is another beauty of our Pakistani dramas especially that we always see the characters which are relate-able & quite original. We don’t have to see the lead actors in over-done make ups & top-notch wardrobes but it’s the originality and simplicity that does wonders & we end up liking any drama because I feel characters play another important role in making a drama connect to the viewers.

3. Third in my list would be “THE DIALOGUES . We have seen so many dramas over the years whose dialogues have always been appreciated because that’s the beauty of our mother tongue Urdu. We definitely haven’t seen hardcore Urdu being used in any of our dramas but it’s the simplicity & the easiness of conveying a certain message that gets clicked to the audience. Even at times such heavy feelings are conveyed with so much ease & smoothness which actually shows the versatility of our language.

4. Fourth in my list would be “THE REALITY” that our dramas are popular in getting across to the viewers. Any good drama that we see is always based on the reality & if not, it’s closer to reality as well. But I feel any drama that gets hit is definitely the one which the viewers see as real & not superficial because while watching a drama viewers tend to get so involved & at times feel pretty much in relation to a certain drama which I feel also plays an important part in the success.

5. Fifth & the last in my list would be “THE CAST”. The viewers are obviously keen to see their favourite actors perform on-screen & I feel that is also another reason of a success of any serial. A good cast definitely plays a vital role. The cast can also be referred to as a a good actor. The responsibility to project the beauty of any character lies solely on how the actors acts it out. If an actor can not act a certain character, he/she ends up spoiling the whole thing related to that particular character & I feel Pakistan has numerous great actors both males & females who have done & have been doing justice to the characters they are assigned with.

So, these are the factors in my list which I feel are the backbone of our dramas getting successful all these years. I hope I was able to point out the major aspects that make our dramas famous. If you all have any other suggestions that you feel play a part towards the success of our dramas, please feel free to share it with us because it’s been a while that we haven’t discussed about the positives & the good things about our dramas. I’d be looking forward to your comments. :)

Mera Pehla Pyar Episode 7 – Review

0

So episode 7 of Mera Pehla Pyar begins with Taha (perhaps looking for) and finding a picture of Maira. He seems to be happy while looking at her. But I’m wondering if that picture has always been in that drawer, and if so, how did Ayesha not find it? I don’t see Ayesha staying quite about her husband readily having a picture of his ‘best friend’ in his side drawer…especially since she seemed to be somewhat insecure of Maira in the flashback scenes. Hmm…Taha is clearly happy though as we seem him coming back from a jog in the morning too. Even Hira makes a comment stating it had been a while since her baba had done that.

Moving on to Zara…if there are girls reading this review and watching this drama, please if there is one thing you take from this, it is to now lower your self-worth please! I know in the past I have wondered why the writers have put this character in the script, but I’m actually glad they did. Zara brings ‘friendship day’ flowers and card for Taha and surprises him with the fact that he is her best friend. I am astonished to see that she doesn’t realize he doesn’t even consider her a friend…to him she is just a co-worker. I actually felt sorry for her when Taha says ‘mein hairan hoon ke tum itni important baat ko mazaq mein le rahi ho’ and says that they should get to work. She was visibly hurt, but unfortunately she brought this on herself. Please ladies, don’t do this to your selves. Have confidence and respect yourself. Don’t lower yourselves for anyone. What further irritated me was that even after all of that, she later goes into his office and starts to bad mouth Ayesha. He has repeatedly told her he didn’t want to discuss his personal life, yet she is there yet again, bad mouthing his ex-wife. Whatever commercials Ayesha does and whatever she wears is her business, not Zara’s. The fact that she would bring up Taha’s ex-wife, bad mouth her and that too after he completely rejected her gesture is desperation beyond belief. So writers, thank you for Zara’s character…I’m really hoping it will be a learning lesson to all the girls out there.

Speaking of Ayesha, things don’t seem to be going so great with her co-worker or her boss. I think she will realize soon that she has made a humongous mistake, but that it is too late now. She also hasn’t seen Hira for 2 weeks. Where did all that ‘Ma ka pyar’ go? For Hira’s sake, I really hope Ayesha shapes up.

No matter the kind of mother Ayesha was, she had to have done something right since Hira adores her and misses her. And I’m really glad that this serial is written in a way that none of the family members bad mouth Ayesha after the divorce in front of Hira. Her grandfather sees how much she misses her mother and gives her so much hope that her mother is also missing her. Not just that, but the audience doesn’t see a spoiled or badtameez Hira. For a 9 year old, who has seen her parents fight a lot and then get a divorce, she is very put together, mannered, and very caring. I don’t know many kids here age who think that feeding their pet fish is more important than eating themselves. Forget kids, even some adults don’t think like that. All these positive aspects really make a difference for this serial’s popularity.

Also I love how much Hira cares for her father. She find Maira’s picture or as she puts it ‘hum ne apne target ko pehchan liya.” J Per unfortunately Maira Aunty is now married and her facebook display pic is not hers. So Dado has taken upon herself to find Maira her way. I’m really waiting to see how this plays out.  I also realize that people are comparing this to the Indian movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but whereas there may be some similarity, this story is very very different. This actually makes sense and has the possibility of actually happening in the real world.  Not like in the movie where an 8 year old is being told the entire love story of her parents by her late mother in a 10 page letter.

Let me here discuss the Dada Dadi chemistry and its awesomeness! Clearly Dada abhi bare nahi hue hain J He went to get groceries and came back with Feroza’s bag also…how did he not know that sabzi shopping with Feroza would not make his wife too happy? These bursts of comical aspects right after some really heavy doses are very refreshing!

Now, as much as this episode was great, I just couldn’t see Faysal Qureshi and Nosheen Shah as college students. Really Shazia was the only one that was fitting in that character. FQ as an over-weight geek and Ayesha (quite bitter than also) didn’t work…at least for me. Aur wor Zaid Uncle bhi kaheen se University material nahi the. But besides this one thing, this was a great episode. Story seems to be moving forward and I find myself waiting to find out what happens next. Acting wise, everyone was great as usual. They all fit perfectly in their characters. This serial really is a puzzle that fits together seamlessly.

Till next time…

Mera Pehla Pyar Episode 6 – Review

0

‘Eik kahani khatam to dooja kissa shuru hua…’ How many people have heard the song ‘Nagada Nagada’ from Jab We Met? Remember this particular line? I make this reference because the Taha Ayesha story has just ended in the last episode and Maira and Taha’s story begins at the end of this episode when he sees his ‘best friend’ from college at the red light (waise kaaaaaaafi filmy scene tha) J

The story starts out with Ayesha telling (a very annoying) Shanze about her divorce being finalized. Shanze gives Ayesha the fantastic idea of giving Taha custody of Hira so she can focus on her work. Even though there is a completely selfish reason for this, I had to agree since that is the best thing for Hira. As soon as Hira finds out about this she gets really happy and assumes that her mother has done this for her since she knows she can’t live without her father. Ahh, the age of utter innocence…If only she knew the truth, but I hope she never does.

The next scene is of Taha recollecting memories of the past. Through these flashbacks it is the first time I came to know that him and Ayesha were actually happy once. For the first time, I didn’t detest Ayesha. I do wonder what happened though since they really seemed like a happy and functional family. What prompted Ayesha to give it all away for a career that means nothing in front of her family? Next we see Ayesha signing her film contract without actually reading the entire thing. Even the director tells her that usually people read the entire thing…red flag right there. Anyways, back to Taha’s office and enter Zara (I can’t decide who is more annoying…Shanze or Zara). She hears Taha has just gotten divorced and tries to console him by saying he is not alone. She is correct…he has parents and a daughter. I swear I thought she was actually happy when she found out about the divorce.

When Hira goes home we see how tremendously happy her grandparents are. And with this scene I take away the ‘Hitler Dado’ title from Laila Zuberi. She shows in this episode a complete change in attitude. She not only lets Hira watch her music channel, but offers to make her snacks and watch it with her. Clearly she has realized that her strictness has already caused issues in her son’s life, now her granddaughter’s upbringing is at risk. You really see a very sweet and caring Dado and even Hira realizes and acknowledges that. Good thing since someone has to play a mother’s part in Hira’s life…for now at least. This is clearly evident when we see Hira waiting for a call back from her mom before she goes to sleep. Taha finally calls Ayesha and tells her to please talk to Hira so she can go to sleep. Ayesha’s reply…’tum bhool rahe mujhe order dene ka haq tum kho chuke ho…bara saal tum ne orders diye hain…” Again, are you bloody kidding me? She finally relents speaks to Hira. Oh Ayesha, if you need to be requested to speak to your own daughter, you still don’t get it!

Anyways, back to Taha’s office and back to Zara. She has shortlisted a few candidates for interview and hire and Taha is clearly not interested. He tells to hire anyone. She tells him to at least look at the CVs of the candidates and gives him their names. He tells her to hire Maira…without meeting her, without looking at her resume, he tells her to hire her. Any guesses as to who this Maira will turn out to be? When Taha is headed home, he sees his old friend Maira at the red light on the road. When he gets home he is in a completely different and happy mood. His mother obviously inquires and he tells her why. Mom asks Taha’s dad about Maira and it’s clear that he knows a lot more than he is saying. He knows that Maira got married and had moved to Lahore and now Taha’s mom’s mission is to get Maira back into his life. My question is, how is that possible since she is supposedly married. Hira too inquires about her Baba’s happy mood and upon hearing about ‘Maira Aunty,’ she too is intrigued.

This episode was relatively slow paced. I think many scenes could have been done without and the story could have moved forward a little bit more, but all in all, not a bad episode. Acting wise, all the actors were great as always. Faisal Qureshi in a depressed Taha character wasn’t fun to watch, but they guy can act! Here I need to mention that I cannot imagine any other actors besides Sheheryar Zaidi and Laila Zuberi playin the role of Taha’s parents. All of them have fantastic chemistry and they seem to all be synched.

I hope we see more of Maira in the next episode. Till then…adios!

Disappointing Newcomers

0

Until now I have discussed numerous actors in many different ways. We have had a chance to talk about promising newcomers, versatile actresses, characters I hold very close to my heart and actors who don’t age but today I would like to share my thoughts about those new artists who failed to impress me. Many of you may disagree with me and your opinion is more than welcome. I would like it if you could also support what you say with arguments and in that way you may be able to convince me too.

Unfortunately these newcomers have spoiled many superbly written scenes for me so I thought it was important to make a list of these very good looking but disappointing actors. I am not saying that all these actors lack talent but I seriously believe that they need some training and learning before they can finally make their mark. Acting, like any other skill is something that needs to be learned and unfortunately we do not have too many training academies for actors in our country. Therefore, in the past also we have seen many actors who may have seemed like total failures in the beginning but turned out to be brilliant actors after they got some exposure. So, there is definitely hope for these stars but for now they are ruining the drama watching experience for me. So here it goes:

shehryarShehryaar Munawar:

Believe it or not this gentleman was on top of my “Promising New Actors” list when Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley went on air, now that is what I call ironic! After watching him win our hearts as the cute and adorable Urooj, I was waiting anxiously to watch him set the screen on fire once he showed us just how good his dialogue delivery was. But it was not meant to be,when Shehryaar Munawar made his appearance in Tanhiyaan Nayee Silsilay I was shocked by his dialogue delivery and expressions as well. It is obviously up to the director to extract the best out of any actor but when the rest of the actors seem to be spot on with their acting; one finds it difficult to put the blame on the director. Or it could be that he needed a little more guidance than he was given. It seems like Shehryaar Munwar doesn’t know how to change his voice in order to evoke the right emotions and his expressions seem to be misleading too. I am hoping that Shehryar Munawar gets on track soon because he has the looks and the confidence it takes to be a star.

saraSara Khan:

Sara Khan’s first project Bari Apa has a stellar cast but that does not mean that I am merely disappointed in her acting because she is working with some very talented actors. Sara khan is playing Sharmeen in the play and although the character is one which should get the sympathy of the audience but Sara Khan has failed to deliver. She fails to give the right expressions and although her facial muscles are in action all the time but she is not into the character or the situation at all. There are times when Sara Khan did deliver but I must say that a newbie like her should have started off with a smaller project so that she could learn as she went along.

mustafaMustafa Changezi:

If one looks at Mustafa Changezi’s background he has a lot going for him. He has performed in theatre and has done modeling too; therefore he has ample exposure of the camera already. Mustafa Changezi plays Adeel in Bari Apa and although every time I sit down to watch a new episode I want to be convinced that he can act but the fact is that his dialogue delivery is beyond disappointing. All one can do is wonder what he is doing in a big project like Bari Apa. I think the first step towards becoming an actor is mastering dialogue delivery and the second is to perfect your expressions, unfortunately Mustafa Changezi lacks in both.

arijArij Fatima:

Arij Fatima has a very pretty face and she is a wonderful model. I saw her playing Milli in Sabz Paree Laal Kabooter , then she starred in Mahi Aye Ga and now she is playing the lead in Mar jaye Bhi Tu Kiya. Although Arij Fatima has not been as big of a disappointment as rest of the actors I mentioned on top but sometimes it seems like she acts more than she needs to and in my opinion there are many other more talented actresses like Maheen Rizvi who deserve to play the lead role on the serials being aired on leading TV channels. But I am quite certain that it won’t take Arij Fatima long to turn into a good actress.

shehzadShehzad sheikh:

Shehzad sheikh comes from a very talented family and I had very high expectations from this gentleman. When I heard he was playing the lead in Mi Raqsam I was quite sure that he must deserve that spot but I have to say that only after watching a few episodes of the play it became difficult for me to sit through an entire episode because the hero failed to impress. Shehzad sheikh is another actor who needs a little more guidance and training before he can play a lead in any play. I wish him a lot of success in the future but for now he has failed to impress me.

What do you think about all these actors, like I said before I know that many people like some of the actors in the list and will disagree with me, so feel free to share your opinion. Also, if there is a newcomer who hasn’t come upto your expectations please feel free to add to the list.

Ek Nayee Cinderella Episode 8 – Love Triangle

0

The whole episode was full of surprises. We got to see more of Meesha and Mayer scenes and less of Roman Meesha scenes. I was kind of missing Roman in this episode. I absolutely love Farhan Khwaja’s acting. If I didn’t know better I would have thought he was an experienced actor instead of a newcomer.

The episode started off with Mayer and Meesha’s conversation. He was upset and shared his feelings with Meesha. He voiced his feeling by saying these dialogues ‘jiski mujhe talash hai usse paker bhi mein khodeta hoon’ and Meesha gave a pretty good reply ‘hosakta hai jis ko tum ne paya uski tumhe talash na ho aur jiski talash ho usko paya na ho’. These dialogues had a double meaning. Meesha wants him to know that Zaini is not the girl he is looking for. She wants him to open his eyes and acknowledge her real ‘mystery’ girl.

Mayer is fascinated by Meesha because she is the first girl who is ignoring him. When he called her a friend, she clearly told him that she does not consider him her friend yet. He is getting attracted to her innocence and simplicity. Mayer was slowly getting interested in Meesha but Zaini again came in the picture.

Mayer is really starting to piss me off. After everything that Zaini did, he still forgave her. Does he have any self respect or not? And poor Meesha had started to think that Mayer is finally taking some interest in her. Even Roman felt bad for her when Mayer came to Meesha’s house to drop Zaini. The poor girl was thinking that he had come there to meet her. Poor Meesha!

I loved the way Roman consoled her. That is how a true friend should be. He told her that she had done wrong with Zaini by lying about her character to Mayer and Bano and that is why bad things are happening to her. If you think badly for someone, the same will happen to you. So true, I hope Meesha does not repeat her mistake again. Roman again agrees to help her and wants her to pretend that she does not care that Zaini and Mayer are together. And yes! His advice did work. Mayer was again boggled by Meesha’s behavior. Mayer was with Zaini physically but his mind was thinking about Meesha all the time. Way to go Meesha!

Another thing which I disliked was when Mayer used Meesha to make Zaini jealous. Poor Meesha was surprised by his changed behavior and the sudden turn of events. Mayer praised Meesha in front of Zaini to make her jealous. Meesha is so naive, I love her dialogues. I remember this line that Mayer said to her and she gave the cutest reply:
Kiya ho tum meesha? Jadugarni?
Jee nahi, jadugarni itni haseen hoti hai.
I couldn’t help but laugh at her innocence.

Roman has totally fallen for Meesha but he has no intention of telling her. I loved the scene when he was reading a book with Meesha’s picture in it. He really likes her a lot and I like the fact that his love for her is so selfless. He is making every attempt to help Meesha win over Mayer without thinking about himself. I also liked Ammie Roman scene. It was as usual a treat to watch.
Now coming to the serious parts of the episode, we know now that Shah Baba is related to Meesha. He has sent a man to find Meesha. I have a feeling this man would be Ammie’s ‘dream guy’. I hope she also finds happiness.

Overall it was a good episode, I am curious to know what Mayer really thinks about Meesha. Does he feel anything for her or his attention is just a facade to make Zaini jealous? Will he every like Meesha? Will Meesha ever appreciate Roman? Can’t wait for the next episode now!

The Impact Of Technology On Human Relations

0

There was a time when people used to question technological advancements and were not willing to accept them wholeheartedly but now technology is not just widely accepted but very warmly welcomed too. Whenever there is a new innovation, people ask what is next, even before they have fully exploited the technological devices already available. I remember when I was a kid I used to find it almost unbelievable that there will be a day when we will have phones which will enable us to see the person we were having a conversation with. At that time it seemed far fetched but the rapid pace with which technology is advancing in the given age nothing surprises me and everything is believable. ( I am not sure what to write after this sentence *sigh* or *cheers*?)

When I was growing up there used to be one or not more than two landlines in one household. There was absolutely no concept of cell phones and when the cordless phone was introduced many families did not prefer it because they wanted to keep a check on their teenage kids especially. With the phone set in one specific place, it was easy for the parents to monitor who their kids were interacting with and how long the conversations lasted. The kids in those days had very little privacy and the grown ups had a lot of control. If a parent did not want his child to associate with someone they would just tell that person that the child was busy or not home until they stopped calling. The parents picked up from the children’s conversation what was going on in their lives and very often they ended up talking to their children about it. Now in the past 15 years or so things have changed drastically, everyone has a mobile phone, even school going children can’t do without them. What effect does it have? Parents feel more secure because if their child gets into trouble or if there is an emergency they can instantly reach them but look at the cons, many of the parents nowadays have absolutely no control over their children’s lives in terms of who they are talking to and what is going on their life, unless the child decides to talk to the parents about it. And how often does that happen? Not very often, because as a result of all the technological advancements children do not have time or patience for their parents. There is so much to occupy them from play stations, computers to iphones and ipads and need I mention facebook? Which is anything but a book but a whole new world of it’s own to which old and young alike are addicted. Children nowadays can have a day without saying hello to their parents but a day without facebook is unimaginable.

All the latest games whether they are on play station, Xbox or idevices are very engaging indeed and some of them are highly educational too but In my opinion they are nothing compared to the good old game of tag we used to play with out siblings and neighbors. When you sit and play a game on your device or Xbox, who are you connecting with? Virtual characters in a virtual world? A game of ball, tag or hide and seek used to connect the kids with their friends and siblings and gave them some unforgettable memories. And not to mention there were many lessons learned along the way. I am not saying that children do not play with their friends anymore but I know from personal experience and observation that the kids nowadays interact with their devices much more than they do with real people. Why is that? I think it is because it is human nature to stick to relations that are easy to maintain, while a human will not do exactly what you want them to do and may argue with you too but a device will follow your lead. If you are losing in a game, all one has to do is to restart it and there is no looking back. But if you are playing with a friend and you lose, then you lose and you learn lessons about life…you learn how to deal with things when they don’t go your way. I really believe that these devices have managed to attain what they aimed to achieve, which is, making life easier for those who use them. But my question is that if we keep on making our lives so easy than how will we deal with it when it gets difficult? Life is no game that can be restarted, our children need to learn to resolve their problems and to deal with difficult situations and this is only going to happen if they go out in the world and interact with real people. Yes, all kids go to school and they interact with real people there but I have seen many kids who are introverts in school, they keep to themselves until it is time to come home.

Enough about kids, technology seems to have engulfed grown ups just as much too and while it is great that people make so many new friends online through many social networking sites but have you ever felt that you maybe giving your online friends more time than the people living in the same house with you? Nowadays in many affluent households every member of the family has a laptop or any other device to keep them connected to the outside world but we seem to be using the devices given to us by nature less and less to interact with those around us. A chat with a sibling, your spouse or even your own child may seem cumbersome because you have to reply to all the facebook messages and check out the latest updates on all the sites you have registered too…there just aren’t enough hours in a day! So what exactly are the grown ups investing in too? Imagine a day without any of these gadgets in the house and not even the television, what would be the outcome? I am certain that the people living in the house will interact with each other more. When your little sister does not have Google or youtube to tell her what she needs to know about her history lesson she is bound to come to you for assistance and this is how relationships grow.

I must sound like I am anti technology, well honestly speaking no I am not, we have all the possible gadgets in the house that one can think of but it really makes me wonder sometimes that where are we headed? And where does it stop? The internet and the other devices help us in countless ways. I won’t be here talking to you in the first place if it wasn’t for the internet but there was once a time when these things did not exist and people still got by with life just fine. Everything has it’s pros and cons, we all know very well what the positives of technology are and I will not deny them but how many of us stop to reflect how technology has changed human interactions (in good and bad ways). Yes I emphasized on the negative impact of technology in this article because sometimes I do feel like I was just as happy with life before all these technological developments. Life was simple back when friends and siblings had to sit and think hard about how to keep ourselves occupied. When one could not understand history or science your father never turned on you tube for you but he sat down to explain things. I do miss those days and I wonder how life would have been if things were still the same!

Coke Kahani Episode 6 – Mission Patch up!

0

This show is always a treat to watch. I always have a smile on my face when I am watching it. Amidst all the serious dramas on TV nowadays, a lighthearted show like Coke kahani is always welcomed. This show is a combined effort of a brilliant director and hardworking actors. The script and dialogues both are well written.

Now coming to the episode, Maya overheard Rayaan and Zoya’s conversation. Now she knows what Zoya wants and that she has an ulterior motive to stay in Pakistan. Now Rayaan, Zoya, Saad and Ruqaiya are on a mission! They want to patch up things between Zoya’s parents. The precap seems interesting. Saad wrote a hilarious love letter to Maya on behalf of Asfand and Asfand got a good bashing as a reply from Maya. Poor Asfand did not have a clue about what was happening!
We also got an insight to the reason why Asfand and Maya separated. Maya did not want to stay in Pakistan because of its worsening condition and Asfand did not want to leave Pakistan. He did not want to leave his forefather’s house and restaurant. Both are right in their own places. Maya wants security which she does not find here while Asfand gives importance to his values. Maya and Asfand have come to a kind of truce now. They are no longer fighting and making decisions on behalf of Zoya. Asfand and Maya have decided that they would let Zoya reach to a decision by herself without pressuring her in anyway. I think this is a really good decision.

Zoya is getting more desperate by the day to arrange money to revamp the restaurant. She is thinking of taking a loan despite her promise to Asfand that she would not take one. Well, desperate times call for desperate measures. Let’s see if she is able to find a sponsor or would she would end up taking a loan.

The highlight of the show was Mr and Mrs Mutmain, they are also attempting to patch up things between Asfand and Maya. Their scenes make you laugh like anything. I loved the scene when they both took Maya to a mall and she got scared when she heard a sound that seemed like a bomb blast. everyone who comes from outside behave the same way since everything is so exaggerated in the news. Now coming to the three employees of Al fonso, Maria is interested in Bedil the ‘ultimate’ flirt. Wow! I did not expect this. Bedil, however is unaware of her feelings while Jugnoo knows about it. I love the way Bedil teases Jugnoo. Jugnoo was trying to learn German secretly, but Bedil exposed his secret. These three are the cutest. I simply love their cute fights.

Ruqaiya, her mom and not to forget their ‘gujrati’. I could not stop laughing at this scene. Ruqaiya’s mom wants her to get married because she thinks she will ‘run away’ with some guy. Zoya was somehow able to convince her to give Ruqaiya some more time. I loved the scene when she imagines the kind of guy her mother would select for her. Poor Ruqaiya!

Every single scene of this episode was superb. There was nothing unnecessary or boring. Each character in this play has its own charm and makes you laugh. I am still not able to choose one as my favorite. I find each of them interesting and funny.
Will Zoya be able to get money to revamp the restaurant? Will her efforts be successful in patching up her parents? To find out tune into Coke Kahani next week on Saturday!

Actresses who need to show versatility!

0

There is no doubt about the potential that the Pakistani Actors have. These days when we see the local audience loving our dramas, praising our actors for the good work, it has been seen that there are actresses who are mostly coming up with similar roles. By saying so, I really am not criticizing these talented celebrities but that is what I have been observing that the following actresses are often casted in similar roles, probably because of the fact that they have received popularity for those specific acting skills.

Bari Appa Episode 13 – Zubaida in Action.

0

The scene where Neelam enters the house of Farman was really well executed & Bari Appa’s expressions were beyond perfection. At that particular moment the viewers were revealed at what she will be doing to Neelam, because at the beginning we saw how Bari Appa confessed in front of her daughter Sharmeen that she is not going to accept humility & can’t stand seeing people pitying her, now we clearly know what she was talking about.

There was a bit of confusion whether Neelam’s cousin should stay at the dinner & how Neelam should enter but Neelam’s cousin kept on insisting he would stay with Neelam just to support her so that she doesn’t feel awkward in the circle of unknown people. That was the first plot of Bari Appa against Neelam & she played it very subtly & decently where she told Neelam to come with her cousin but told Farman that she wants Neelam to enter with Farman. Now we can expect more of it in the upcoming episodes. Farman’s claim in front of Zubaida that he will shift Neelam back to her old house was a really good suggestion but Zubaida insisted & he had to agree but he actually doesn’t know right now that what he’s going to get into. Neelam would be the one who’d promise the support & accept everything that Farman will offer to her but Zubaida is going to make it really difficult for them.

Sharmeen flirt with Adeel to make Essa furious was below the belt on Sharmeen’s part. They shared such a nice bond but Sharmeen is being irrational towards Essa. She should understand that Essa had nothing to do with the marriage of Farman & his Cousin Neelam but Sharmeen’s emotions are clouded by her affection towards her mother. I hate to see Farman fixing his own things & forgetting that Essa’s proposal is still pending & he should make a move in the favour of Sharmeen & Essa as well.

I personally enjoyed the scene of Zubaida & Sharmeen & felt that Zubaida looked stunningly elegant in that very dress. She has carried herself really very well & I admire her wardrobe too. Another favourite yet funny scene was Firdous’s & Neelam’s encounter & her out of the blue comment about some past experience she had. She has played this character so beautifully that even if she acts dumb at times makes her look completely adorable.

We still have a lot more to see in this drama now especially when Zubaida is going to make it impossible for Neelam to stay with her & Farman but I feel Neelam should get a hold of herself & shouldn’t go with the flow too easily & quickly because she has been married to Farman for more than 3 years & she should have understood the nature of Zubaida by now. No doubt she must take care of whatever Farman asks her of but she legally has nothing to do with Zubaida. Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed the episode & can’t wait for the next one.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Tanhaiyaan Nayee Silsilay Episode 8 – Smiles All The Way!

First thing is first, someone please tell me what is in the box? I am guessing Zara’s photos, diary and letters. But if that is the case than why is Zain hiding them from Serena and Zeenia? I can’t wait to find out! Serena is too cute for words…have I said this before? well I must say it again then! Syra Yusef has an excellent chemistry with all her co-stars and I must give her the entire credit. I thoroughly enjoy her “confrontations” with Zeenia and all of the scenes with her father are too sweet. I thought the way Serena explained to her father who Zarak Barak was and what he does was too funny. I must give due credit to Jaleel Akhtar and Mohammad Ahmed for the script, coming up with the new characters and the screenplay. If anyone noticed in the credentials three different writers were credited, the credits went something like this , original story and characters developed by: Haseena Moin, story Nayee Silsilay: Jaleel Akhtar , screenplay and dialogue: Mohammad Ahmed… good job all of you, the end product is spot on so overall it is a good team effort.

Zarak and Zeenia have more in common than they could ever have imagined. The Zarak/Zeenia scene in the coffee shop was very well written and directed but I must say that Shehryaar Munawar’s weak dialogue delivery killed half of the fun for me. Zarak Khan the character is absolutely adorable, he is kind, intelligent and caring but Shehryaar Munawar really needs to work harder on his expressions and dialogue delivery. Despite of this I am hoping that Zeenia will decide to stay and Zarak will manage to change her mind.

Serena makes me laugh every time she comes on-screen. Kishmish and Serena are picture perfect and both the actors are ideal for their roles. Serena has everyone wrapped around her little finger and the way she convinced Kishmish to invite her for dinner was just out of this world. Not only this, she is also trying very hard to get Sanya married even against all the odds. The rishta interviews were another very interesting part of this latest episode. I really enjoyed Saife Hassan’s guest appearance as one of the candidates and the duel scene.

I think it is rather odd that even after so much time Zain and Sanya are not talking to each other and I really feel that Sanya needs to ask Zain things directly rather than jumping into conclusions since she has proven time and again that she still trusts Zain.

Overall, Tanhiayaan Nayee Silsilay is an absolute delight to watch. I love the pace of the show and all the characters are simple and sweet, nothing complicated or heavy duty. Today’s episode ended on an emotional and happy note. I have to say that I am really looking forward to watching more of Serena and Kishmish more than anyone else.

Pakistani Actors speak up For Their Rights

0

“I don’t want to see a future where I am going to do voice acting on someone else’s face; that is simply outrageous!” said by Humayun Saeed in reference to the Turkish plays aired on Pakistani channels. At one end where there is a hype created by foreign play like, Ishq-e- Mamnoon, where its mega hit all over the middle east has brought highest rating , the silence of endangering Pakistani drama industry has grown to such as extent that Saeed hypothesis concludes that “If such serials start running regularly, then there will be no audience for Pakistani content,” whereas ,veteran television and stage writer-director Khalid Ahmed says “he is glad that better quality programming is being broadcast in Pakistan”. What about aagan tera, Alpha Bravo Charlie, Dhuan, etc which were used to be few of the many Pakistani legendary dramas and still there are many broadcasting like Humsafar, but now is it the quality of production or the invasion of foreign plays in Pakistani industry that is leading to endangering or extinction of Pakistani actors.

Pakistani Media Celebrities to Protest at Karachi Press Club against Turkish Dramas

0

We never knew that the issue we raised days ago on this forum regarding the telecast of Turkish Dramas in Pakistan would create such a huge hype. We noticed while reading the comments of the readers on previous posts that few of our readers actually support these international dramas and thus we would try not to be bias about the issue. However, it seems that our prediction about these dramas as a threat to the local industry is somehow true as these days; nearly all the news programs and Morning Shows are picking this topic as the center of discussion.

Mera Yaqeen Episode 19 – Maha Is Back!

0

We go to see a lot of twists and turns in this episode. This show is finally picking up its pace. We saw Maha trying to get her hold back on her house. Everyone was surprised at first and then happy to see her on the wheelchair. Asfand was in a state of disbelief, his happiness had no bounds and even Nazish was seen happy.

Asfand asked Nazish if she was not happy that Maha recovered. And her reply was ‘Kya ap bhi Maha ki tarha sochte hai? Ap bhi meri niyat per shaq karte hai’ Asfand felt bad about doubting her. Nazish also said this line ‘Maha aur mera rista hee aisa hai ke sab ko lagega ke mein uske theek hone per khush nahi hoon.’ True. Anybody who does not know her would think like that. But is she truly happy now?

he highlight of the episode was Ahmer and Nazish conversation and Asfand overhearing it. I am not sure whether he heard the whole conversation or just bits and pieces but he did seem angry when he saw both of them together. However, he did not say anything to Nazish. Nazish asked Asfand ‘Do you still think I meet Ahmer secretly?’ Asfand hesitated a bit before giving the answer. Does it mean that he still have doubts in his mind? I really want to know whether he has heard the conversation or not.
Maha is turning Nazish’s world upside down. It was like Nazish was living in a bubble and Maha had burst it. The few peaceful months spend in Asfand’s company was like a beautiful dream for her. She no longer feels secure in the house. Maha is everywhere now and she does not like the changes Nazish made, both in Asfand and the house. She commented on the changes she saw in Asfand like his sudden preference for tea without sugar. She intends to take the control away from Nazish. She countermand every instruction that Nazish gives, and is trying to make her feel unwelcome. Nazish’s voices her insecurity to Asfand when she said that maybe she should go back now that Maha has recovered and that she was brought in the house because she was needed at that time. Asfand again tells her that he is not going to leave her and nobody ever said that she would have to go back if Maha recovers. I am really glad that Asfand is always by her side and supports her every time.

Maha is making ever possible attempt to separate both of them. I just hate her selfishness. When Asfand wanted to take Nazish out, she pretended to be sick and stopped them from going. Asfand, on the other hand is trying hard to keep a balance between the two. When Maha and Asfand were having tea, Asfand also called Nazish to join them, but Maha could not accept that he was treating them both equally because according to her she is better than Nazish in every possible way. She again made Nazish feel unwanted by taunting her. Nazish did not utter a word but went to her room silently. Nazish really needs to speak up. She has the right as Asfand is her husband too. Her silence can get really annoying at times.

Nazish had taken Maha’s place in Asfand’s life. We saw this when Asfand could not find his tie and he called for Nazish but we saw Maha coming to his room and she made Nazish realize that she is a new comer and is not as acquainted with Asfand as her as she has just come into his life while she had been a part of his life since years. Asfand is also getting irritated by Maha’s antics. Poor guy! I feel sorry for him.

Maha is finally able to stand now. The steroids have done their work. She made Nazish’s life miserable when she was on the wheelchair, what will happen now that she can walk? I am really afraid for Nazish now. She gloated in front of Nazish that she can finally stand beside Asfand. Will Nazish ever speak up for her rights? Or will she let Maha play with her life? The show is getting more interesting by the day.

Zindagi Gulzar hai Episode 3 – Outstanding Script And Flawless Direction

Zindagi Gulzar Hai has it all; outstanding dialogues, flawless direction and brilliant acting. I must start this review by appreciating the director Sultana Siddiqui in particular for a job very well done. The way the day to day lives of the two lead characters have been shown running parallel to each other is just immaculate. Add to that Umera Ahmed’s script and a group of very gifted actors at heir best and you get a masterpiece ready to enthrall you on Friday nights.

Today’s episode opened with Zaroon and his friends sharing with each other how they felt about the new girl who topped the list and told “Zaroon the great” off! While Asmara and Zaroon are amazed at the kind of crowd that makes it to such top universities, Osama likes Kashaf instantly! On the other hand Kashaf’s first impression of the university is that studying with rich people was not such a good idea after all because she can never “compete” with them. At night when kashaf writes her diary she complains to God but she wakes up in the morning with a completely different frame of mind. Kashaf realizes that it would prove to be futile trying to compete with her college mates on the basis of clothes and status so she decides “kuprun pe time nahi lagana, parhai pe lagana hai”. This is what I absolutely love about Kashaf’s character, she may complain about a lot of things in life but at the same time she knows how to make life livable for herself, even against all odds. Zaroon and Kashaf both think about each other while writing their diaries and Zaroon thinks that Kashaf is proud and has no class. I did not quite understand why Kashaf felt that Zaroon insulted her in the class because the poor guy only said hi and did not get a chance to say anything else.

Okay so just when I started feeling that Asmara was acting unreasonable by getting jealous of all the other girls, we saw Asmara and Zaroon’s parents thinking of tying the knot. I have to say that this particular track of the story gives me a very “been there done that” feeling. Both the families and the girl eagerly want this proposal to go ahead but I have a feeling that the concerned boy is not going to jump on the idea (I could be very wrong of course). Why do I think so? Well because Asmara is exactly like Sara and Ghazala and why would Zaroon want to marry someone like that? Zaroon’s conversation with his father and everything else that we have heard from him till now suggests that Zaroon has very conservative ideas when it comes to how a man and a woman should run a household. It is very obvious that the women run the show in Zaroon’s house and the men are somewhat scared of even sharing how they feel about things. The men of the house are actually not allowed to intervene in anything, Ghazala just gets up and goes to Malaysia. Although Zaroon’s father has accepted the way things are, Zaroon would never allow his future wife to do all this to him. I have to say the relationship between all these family members has been very nicely portrayed. Had Ghazala been a housewife, it would have been difficult to understand why she exercises all this control and freedom.

Another big blow to Zaroon’s ego today had to be the C he got in the assignment, now how did that happen? I thought he was a very good student. I thought the scene where Zaroon is more interested in Kashaf’s assignment than his own was a very good addition; so many students do that in real life too. We see Kashaf aiming higher and Zaroon has some serious completion coming his way.

I like how the music from Hadiqa Kiyani’s version of the OST plays in the background in all the scenes with Kashaf in them and Ali Zafar’s version plays in the background in all of the scenes with Zaroon in them. Both the versions are well suited for these two characters that are entirely different from each other.

Today’s episode was engaging and entertaining but I have to say that I would have liked to see more of Zaroon and Kashaf “interactions” in some way. Shehryaar Munawar looks good in this role and I am looking forward to seeing more of him. Fawad Khan was absolutely brilliant in today’s episode and he totally owns the character. I am eagerly waiting to see how the story unfolds.
