The trailer of Raees had finally released and we sure saw Mahira Khan in it. She had an appearance of about 20+ seconds in the trailer and looked extremely stunning . The makers of Raees stood their ground and did not cut Mahira Khan’s role fully in the movie as the actors should not suffer for no fault of theirs. They have kept their promise as Mahira is very much there and we are loving her part in the trailer. But the question which rose now is will she be a part of raees promotions? Earlier there were reports that Mahira will not be attending Raees promotion but the recent trailer launch event of Raees showed us a a different story.

In an interaction with media the director of the movie was asked if he would call Mahira for promotions of the movie, to which he said “If we find it necessary to bring her here and involve her in the promotions, of course, she will come. I don’t think there is any restriction for her from the government as such. Aisa nahi hai ki they have stopped issuing visas to anybody to come from there. So I think as and when we will decide to involve her, we’ll get her to come.”

Superstar Mahira Khan became a part of a major controversy when a few of her images leaked in which she was seen smoking with Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor in New York. Mahira Khan recently appeared in Ghabrana Mana Hai. Vasay Chaudhry gave Mahira hints about a picture and asked her how the picture affected her. Mahira assumed that Vasay is asking about her pictures with Ranbir and said that the impact that was created by the pictures is still there no matter what she do people always come up with her pictures.

“At that time what I went through I think it was the biggest learning experience of my life. That kind of trauma that you can experience because you know it was not just social media, it was headline news every day” said Mahira Khan. But later on, it turned out it was a picture of Sheheryar Munawar and Mahira Khan about which Vasay Chaudhry was talking.

Mahira Khan while talking to NDTV revealed how her experience of working in India had helped him with her dancing skills. She said,

“I have danced in the two films I have recently done, but I danced in Ho Mann Jahaan after I came back [from Bollywood] so you see a vast difference between the first film Bin Roye and Ho Mann Jahaan.“

She also went on to say,

“[The song] ‘Shakar Wandaan Re’ became very popular, and you see a lot of difference [in my dancing]. I danced khul ke [with abandon], and the credit goes to the choreographers in India, my director, Shah Rukh. They kept telling me ‘Just do it, just forget who’s watching!’. We’re not [like that]. Apart from our theatre, drama acting is focused up here [gestures towards face], so we’ve mastered the art of the closeup. We give the right expressions, we cry well, we do confrontations well, but when it comes to body language… you are constricted and cinema is not that.”

She further added,

“Even my director Asim [Raza] would tell me, “Khul ke nacho [dance freely], remember that I’m not taking your closeup, the shot is this wide, and it’s your entire body.”

Mahira said that the credit for her dance moves today goes to the experience she had in India. She said,

“So, those were the little little things, or should I say, big, big things, that I learned on the job in India.”

Mahira Khan was recently in a controversy when she was spotted with Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor in some leaked pictures in NYC. She got a lot of backlash from her fans but the industry supported her in the whole situation. Last night the trailer of her upcoming movie Verna was launched. A reporter asked Mahira about the controversy to which she answered. This was the first time Mahira talked about this. She said she has learnt from it and will be more careful in the future. Here is her reaction to the questions:

Mahira Khan talked to The Express Tribune about how she bagged the role in Raees, her first Bollywood movie. She discussed the details of her audition and her thoughts about working in the movie.

How long did you wait for a script, such as Raees, to come your way? Did you refuse to do any Bollywood films in the mean time?

I was neither waiting  for a perfect script from Bollywood nor had I read many. I got a call for an audition and wasn’t told the exact details of the film, except the names of the producers and the director (Rahul Dholakia), both of whom I liked. Once I read the scenes, I found them to be interesting and went ahead and auditioned for the role.

Media reports suggest that Shah Rukh showed up at your audition for Raees. If this is true, tell us about what the audition process was like. Were you confident that you would get selected for the role?

I just did what I had to: learnt my lines and gave it my best shot. I was nervous before the audition and thought I’d forget all my lines. I did meet Shah Rukh. He was very kind.

Shah Rukh plays a Muslim character in the film and you come from a Muslim family from Pakistan, where Urdu diction holds significance. Do you think this played in your favour?

I’m not sure if it played in my favour, but I hope that it does. The character is that of a Gujarati Muslim, so the diction and accent will be Gujarati.

Do you feel any pressure debuting opposite notable actors, such as Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin, in a Farhan Akhtar production?

Well, yes. There is always a bit of pressure when performing with such good actors. I’m a fan of both Shah Rukh and Nawaz. Luckily, I’ve had the chance to perform with some of the best actors in Pakistan, who helped me out a lot on set. I also learnt a lot from them and hope for the same with Shah Rukh and Nawazuddin. Insha’Allah.

What edge do you think Pakistani actors have over Indian actors?

None. Only a good actor has an edge over a weak actor. A hardworking actor has an edge over a lazy actor. Nationality has nothing to do with it.

You worked in TV for a while after acting in the film Bol. How hard do you think will it be for you to re-transition into film from TV?

I have worked on a film Bin Roye and am currently shooting for another film directed by Asim Raza. So, the transition has been made already. What I’m nervous about is working in an environment where I don’t really know anybody. Everything will be new for me except for the camera, I guess.

A challenge starring opposite Shah Rukh is that it is difficult for any actor to outshine him due to his star power. What are your thoughts on that?

I don’t worry about such things. If my co-actor shines, it means I have shone as well and vice versa. These are not the kind of thoughts I focus on. I read a script, meet my director and go with my instinct.

ARY Awards and HUM Awards were held recently and now Lux Style Awards are expected soon. Lux Style Awards are all encompassing and were there long before private channels started their award shows. Mahira Khan it appears to be is nominated in every award show and we see her bagging an award every time. This time she has been nominated for the best actress category for drama serial Sadqay Tumhare and the film Bin Roye.

While Talking to Express Tribune after the nominations were announced Mahira Khan shared what it felt like to be nominated and whether winning or losing meant something huge for her. She said,

 “It always feels good to be nominated. Winning and losing I don’t really care about. It is good to know that these people are watching our work and recognizing it.”

Mahira Khan also said,

“I don’t like the term ‘revival of Pakistani cinema’ being used again and again. I think the revival period is over, Pakistan cinema has been revived now we should stop using this word. We need to say that we are going to maintain what we have achieved. We have to continue churning out good films.”

Mahira Khan said that she had no information about why Raees’ release was delayed because it was the decision of the producer.

“It is upsetting when films are delayed, same happened with Bin Roye too.”

Mahira Khan also talked about her future plans.

“Because I thought Raees was coming out in July, I stopped taking any work. I couldn’t do some amazing films that came my way. I had to let go but now I have decided that I have to work. I am going completely crazy, I need to be on a set, I need to be acting, reading a script. I am looking into a few really good things.”

Mahira Khan said that the fans will find out very soon what she is doing next.

Mahira Khan is attending a lot of Morning Shows nowadays to promote her upcoming film Ho Mann Jahan. She was invited as a guest in Good Morning Pakistan in which she shared details about the shooting of the very famous song Shakar Wandan and the film in general.

Mahira Khan also talked about how she felt after working in India. Nida Yasir said that most Pakistani actors who work in India become arrogant. How did Mahira feel after working in India? She said,

“How can I be arrogant or proud of myself. I am proud of my country, very proud because whatever fame or respect I have today is there because I worked in Pakistani dramas and films. People recognize me because of the work I did in my country.”

Mahira Khan also talked about the threats she and Fawad Khan got from Indian extremist party Shiv Sena. Mahira Khan said,

“I have always stayed away from controversies. I have never resorted to controversial things to get fame because that would only create problems for me.”

Mahira Khan also shared that Sarmad Khoosat has this cute nickname for her which is “Gangu”. Mahira Khan is also known as “Mazdoor Khan” on sets because of her down-to-earth nature.

Talking about the shooting of the song Shakar Wandan. Mahira Khan said she had a fall and got injured a day before the shooting. She said,

“I rehearsed a lot for Shakar Wandan song and I was very sure that I was going to nail it but then you go to the sets and you fall on the second day of the shoot. Thank God I could come back on the set. The director said we will simmer the steps down. How could that be possible! It was Mehndi song, how could we simmer it down?”

Mahira Khan and all the others gave their best to this song. Even Shehryar Munawar fell while shooting for this song. Famous actress Nimra Bucha who is also a part of the film said Ho Mann Jahan is,

“The Rolls Royce of production!”

Mahira Khan, who is now known to be one of the most versatile actresses of Pakistan, gained popularity after playing the character of Khirad in drama serial Humsafar. After winning the hearts of Pakistani audience by brilliantly performing in Pakistani movies and dramas, the actress set out to make her debut in a Bollywood film “Raees” alongside Shahrukh Khan. “I’m working on a film directed by Shoaib Mansoor with an all new cast. After that I’m working on a really light comedy written by Vasay Chaudhry. I have also signed on a film with Azaan Sami Khan, so I’m going to be doing a lot of cool stuff.”

she also added that;

“I’d also like to produce and direct myself very soon. I just don’t know if I’d be able to handle actor egos. I wouldn’t make a film that’s too serious. I like commercial films, something to do with youth. Romantic comedies are my favorite.”

So the good news for all the Mahira Khan fans is that, they’ll see her in her up coming projects very soon.

Mahira Khan’s character in her upcoming Pakistani film is named “Manizeh”. Mahira has been invited to a lot of Morning Shows but she has never talked about her character in the film till now. Today Mahira Khan was invited to “Satrangi” in which she talked about her character in “Ho Mann Jahan” and what was the response of the fans when the team went to different colleges and universities to promote their film.

Talking about her character, Mahira Khan said that Manizeh was,

“Confident, secure, determined. She will be an inspiration for all the young girls out there. I would say that even I am not like that but I wish I was and many other young girls who will watch this film will find themselves wishing they were more like Manizeh.”

When Javeria Saud asked Mahira Khan about the love and reaction she gets when she goes out with the rest of the team to promote her film, she had a totally different story to tell! She said,

“Forget about my fans, boys are much more contained. Sheheryar and Adeel’s female fans are the ones who make all the noise and grab them in a way that sometimes I feel they will rip their shirts off. We let girls get away with a lot of things so they do many things which boys cannot dream of doing.”

Sonya Jahan has also joined the “Ho Mann Jahan” team in promoting the film. She was also there to talk about the film and her experience in the Morning Show.

There’s been a lot of buzz about Mahira Khan’s Bollywood debut alongside the King of all Khans, Shah Rukh Khan, but Mahira herself doesn’t talk much about the much anticipated ‘‘Raees”.

However, at the Vogue Beauty Awards, Mahira shared a bit about how she is feeling now that the release date is not too far. “It’s my dream come true to work with Shah Rukh and also I am very excited about Raees. But more than this, I am nervous too. It feels like I am under pressure to show my acting skills.”

She also shared a memorable moment shared with SRK. “The first scene, I thought I would be doing it smoothly, but as he (Shah Rukh) came in front of me, I forgot my lines. I will always remember that
incident.”

Mahira understands that being a Pakistani actress, she has a great deal of responsibility on her shoulders. “Being artists (from Pakistan), we have been trying to represent our country. I hope I can do a good job, because I feel only that country develops which gives respect to its
artists.”

When asked about the possibility of working with Fawad Khan again, “I know people loved our chemistry, but we both are busy with our projects. Therefore, it’s going to be tough.”

So, last year Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar fell prey to a major controversy when during a live interview he verbally abused Marvi Sarmad and talked ill about her on live television. Mahira Khan was also one of those celebrities who spoke up against Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar courageously even though Mahira has played a leading character in the drama serial Sadqay Tumharay which was based on KRQ’s own life story.

In a recent show “Ghabrana Mana Hai” host Vasay Chaudhry read out the tweets of Mahira Khan. The first one in which she commented on Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar’s act and the second one was a follow-up and had some contradictions with the first one.

Talking about two of her contradicting tweets Mahira said: “The first tweet obviously there was very much anger and it was instinctive. But the second tweet was probably after I went through what people were saying. This is the biggest problem that if someone is abusing we feel like abusing in return. That’s why it is said that it is imperative that if we are talking about feminist rights and rights for women and equality because we have to talk about a very important subject. And it was a very big thing for me to say what I did about Khail Saab because I respect him as a writer I have done one of his beautiful plays and again I am separating the artist from the person. But can we do that, that’s the question, it’s a difficult call. And you know what happened when I tweeted, two sides were completely against me and I was like dude no one has the guts to even do this. And I did it because I truly believe that the kind of things he said wasn’t right.”

A talented filmmaker Sarmad Khoosat is receiving threatening phone calls and messages to stop the release of his upcoming film Zindagi Tamasha. Earlier, he wrote a letter to higher authorities to take action against the unknown groups.

Kaabil director, Sanjay Gupta stated how Rakesh Roshan had to take extra measures to ensure that the film wasn’t shared illegally. He said,

“Rakesh Ji endured torture and agony. With help from private companies hired to monitor piracy, he had taken over 3,400 websites where the film was illegally available within the first three days of its release.”

Jolly LLB 2’s Subhash Kapoor also explained,

“Whether it is the government or the producers’ bodies that need to act, they’re not doing enough. We need comprehensive policy introduced by the government. They don’t understand the seriousness of the situation, and how it’s harming the industry.”

Mahira Khan is currently busy shooting her first Bollywood film Raees in which she stars Opposite the most popular Khan of Bollywood namely Shah Rukh Khan. Mahira Khan, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan and an accomplished actress plus activist for various different causes, condemned the attack on PIC Hospital in Lahore by lawyers on Wednesday.
