Dil e Muzter Episode 1 – A Brilliant Start!

0

Bravo! Brilliant first episode! After two weeks of delay, we finally got to see the most awaited show of the season. First episodes are usually boring and slow but this episode had a very steady pace. The story is not new but it has been portrayed differently by the director and Hats off to him as his efforts have paid off and the result is beautiful. Now coming to the characters:

 photo rrf

Imran Abbas plays the role of Adeel who lives with his mother in his Chacha’s house. They moved there after the demise of his father. He and his mother are treated more or less like servants by her Chacha and Chachi but they never complain as they owe them a lot. Adeel is shown as a serious guy with a 9 to 5 job and the only person he is close to is his mother. They share a very strong bond and he is always concerned about her and her constant working schedule and dislikes the way her mother is treated by the other members of the house. The only person in the house who cares about both Adeel and his mother is his cousin, Silah.

photo

Sanam Jang plays the role of Silah who is shown as a very loving, caring and helpful character. She is the only daughter of her parents but is not shown as the typical spoil brat. She is actually the complete opposite of her parents and treats both Adeel and his mother with respect and tries to help them in every way possible. She is well aware of the insensitive nature of her parents and tries to make up to Adeel and her Chachi on their behalf. I loved the way she helped Adeel when his bike stopped working and arranged for the car. She also shares a very close bond with her Zehra Chachi (Ismat Zaidi) and helps her out with her work whenever she can get away from the prying eyes of her mother. She likes her cousin Adeel who seems unaware of her feelings. She cares about every tiny little detail related to him and the scene where she brings the cake on his birthday was one of the best scenes of the episode for me!

Saba Hameed plays the role of Safeena, Silah’s step mother. Saba has again played the same grey shaded role and is seen degrading Zehra Bhabhi in every way possible. She considers both Zehra and Adeel as a burden and leaves no chance to treat them like servants. Thankfully, we did not get to see the typical stepmother as Safeena loves Silah like her own daughter. Thank god for small mercies! I absolutely love Saba’s new look. She looks extremely fresh and young on screen with her new haircut and just the right amount of makeup. Now who can say that this woman is in her late fifties?

Ismat Zaidi is doing a wonderful job as Zehra. Mohsin Gilani as Zamaan (Silah’s father) did not manage to impress me though. I have already started to dislike his character because of the way he treats his nephew with a cold and nonchalant attitude.

Finally, we got to see Imran Abbas in a drama after a long time. He never fails to impress me and I am already in love with his character. Sanam Jang does not seem like a newcomer at all! She is doing wonders onscreen. I loved the way she openly rejects her cousin Muneeb and tells everyone that she wants to marry Adeel instead. I will give this episode an 8/10 for its brilliant pace and excellent acting by all the characters. This show was definitely worth the wait! I am really excited for the next episode! What will be her parent’s reaction to this news? Will they agree to get her married to Adeel? Does Adeel also have feelings for her?
Keep watching to find out!

Dil Banjara Episodes 2 & 3 Review – Tragic Turn Of Events

These two episodes of Dil Banjara gave more of an insight into all the characters which were introduced in the first episode. Phupo and her son’s character were also introduced in these episodes. Nida is apparently one of those girls who only dream big, otherwise she cannot even give a firm reply to someone who belittles her every chance she gets, yes, I am talking about the “aapi”! The primary reason for this is that she was brought up in a household in which someone who is older than you can say or do anything they want. Watching Taya abu showing willingness to help out with Nida’s wedding and accepting her as his own daughter gave a relatively softer feel to his character but that particular image did not last for long. Apart from Nida and her parents everyone else in that family has a very closed view of life. Also, Nida’s fiancé Zaman turned out to be a spoiled brat who it seemed had never lived in his mamo’s house before. Zaman has zero respect for people around him which is something Nida’s father notices too but he is majboor because of all the family pressure.

Shama’s accident and its tragic outcome was the most important development in these two episodes. Sikandar’s character appeared to be completely irresponsible in the first episode but in the second episode watching Sikandar trying to clear the misunderstanding between him and Shama and later on blaming himself for what had happened to Shama went to show that he was a sensitive person who cared about the feelings of people he loved. There were many times in both these episodes were Adnan Malik appeared to be trying too hard.

Nida’s relationship with her mother is one of a kind because of her mother’s unique personality. Nida’s mother just like her father is the only person in the house who respects and loves her dearly. Both these people might not meet the standards of outward perfection but inwardly they are beautiful and perfect people who love their daughter greatly and will do anything to make her happy.

Shama lost her mobility but did not question why she could no longer feel her legs! I would think that someone who lost all movement in their legs would notice that as soon as they regained consciousness. Watching Sikandar trying to show her the bright side of the picture showed another side of his personality. Even though he was shown as someone who believed in living his life on his terms and conditions, he is the sort of person who would pause his life for someone who matters to him.

Adnan Malik’s shaky performance was the worst part of these two episodes. He did not make it easy for me to relate to his character, on the contrary every time he was shown getting upset because of what happened to Shama, he looked quite awkward. Sanam Saeed was very convincing as Nida in both these episodes. The director could however have used a little more lighting especially in the scenes which showed day time. Most of the scenes were recorded indoors therefore use of proper lighting could have helped the viewers distinguish between day and night. The overall atmosphere of Nida’s house is depressing enough as it is, the closed windows and the dull lighting did not help.

It remains to be seen how Nida will manage to leave the country when her father is having a tough time convincing his brother to let her go to the college even! This latest episode ended with Shama thinking about how it would feel to live her life moving around in that wheelchair. So far Mira Sethi has been pretty likeable as Shama.

The preview of the next episode showed Nida’s father trying to convince his brother to let Nida go abroad for her debating competition.

Dil Banjara Episode 9 Review – Reality Check

This was an emotional episode of Dil Banjara which took the story forward considerably. The opening conversation between Nida and Sikandar was beautifully written. It showed the difference in the personalities of both these people and what was going on their minds at that particular moment. Sikandar also made a commitment before going on this trip but he does not think he has to go along with it because he would much rather do what makes him happy but Nida on the other hand knows that it is impossible for her to take this relationship and her feelings for Sikandar any further because she cannot let her family especially her father down. It also went to show how differently these two people had been raised, Nida comes from a conservative background in which a person would be held accountable for every action while Sikandar was raised in a more modern environment. In the end Nida was not able to convince Sikandar and he could not convince her. The beautiful and meaningful dialogues coupled with Adnan Malik and Sanam Saeed’s chemistry and the best locations we have seen on television so far made this scene one of the best scenes of this episode. The breathtaking locations of Nepal have accentuated the beauty of this love story. I also appreciate the fact that unlike many other Pakistani dramas the outlooks of all the actors are completely in line with their characters. Although it would have been good to see Nida wearing more conservative clothes but overall none of the actors in the drama have banked on make-up and styling a lot which makes them look more natural. Adnan Malik is completely comfortable with his looks, we don’t see him wearing heavy foundation or lipstick and Sanam Saeed is the same too.

Dil Banjara Episode 9 Review - Reality Check

Nida’s father’s faith in his daughter and his thought process is one of the finest aspects of this drama. He always has a logical and clear-cut answer to every question and he does not question his decision to send Nida away for a second. Nida’s mother like always managed to put a smile on my face, her character is one of the best characters in this drama. Her honesty and innocence both are endearing. Hina Bayat has once again proved that she is an exceptional actress who is extremely versatile. This role is definitely one of the best ones she has played in her entire career. It is great to see her growing as an actress who is not afraid to experiment. Sharmeen Kashif is another actress who has given a relatively solid performance as Meesha.

Once again the viewers saw Shama thinking and talking about Sikandar in every scene which basically went to show how much he meant to her. It would have been nice if Shama got the hint and wondered if Sikandar really was interested in marrying her or not since she has been shown as a sensible girl. Shama’s mother continued to mislead her even though in his last conversation with her Sikandar made it very clear that he wasn’t too sure about his decision. I am waiting to find out why Shama’s mother chose to ignore that conversation altogether and why is she okay with Sikandar’s lack of interest in this wedding. Shama will be able to walk very soon which I think is  great development because otherwise Shama would have kept on thinking that she was rejected because of her disability.

Dil Banjara Episode 9 Review - Reality Check

Zahra and Ayaz’s background story was revealed in this episode as well. It is good to see this track getting some screen time in every episode. Even though Zahra is bitter but you can’t help but feel for her. Madiha Rizvi is also a natural performer who always translates her characters impeccably on screen, I still remember her convincing performance in Bari Apa. Although Dil Banjara is essentially the story of Nida, Sikandar and Shama but the supporting characters are playing a vital role in keeping my interest alive in the drama.

Overall, this was an interesting episode of Dil Banjara which ended one phase of Nida and Sikandar’s love story. I am eagerly looking forward to the next episode especially because I want to find out how Sikandar and Shama’s track unfolds in the upcoming episodes.

Dil Banjara Episode 8 Review – Moment Of Truth

This episode focused on the mixed emotions which Sikandar and Nida felt because of their peculiar circumstances. Nida felt it was time for her to tell Sikandar that she was engaged before Sikandar declared his love for her in front of everyone. I feel like the viewers needed to know a little bit more about what was going on in Nida’s mind when she started feeling this attraction towards Sikandar instead of hearing it all right now. This latest development wouldn’t have seemed like an isolated event if that was the case. Tonight the viewers found out how Nida felt about her connection with Sikandar and we also learned what was going on in Sikandar’s mind. Sikandar’s dialogues about Nida’s engagement said a great deal about what he thought about relationships which were forced on people and also those which people chose to be in. The chemistry between Adnan Malik and Sanam Saeed had been making their scenes work till now but these recent developments required a lot more from the actors involved and unfortunately in most of the scenes it seemed like they were just reading the dialogues with some expressions. These dialogues needed to come from the heart because the situations in tonight’s episode were extremely emotional. The toota huva sitara scene in particular could have been much more cute if Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik’s acting wasn’t so forced. Also, it would have been nice if duppata would have been a part of Nida’s dressing at all times since she comes from a conservative background and is not irresponsible. Nida and Sikandar’s scenes did not fall completely flat because of the locations, the dialogues and also because these two actors look together good on screen, other than that their dialogue delivery, body language and even the timing of some of the reactions left a lot to be desired and took away the emotional energy needed to make these scenes special.

The good thing about this episode was that the focus wasn’t on Nida and Sikandar alone. All the group members were given plenty of screen time too and just like all the previous episodes the scenes covering these people were interesting and easy to connect to. The group has different kinds of people and their scenes together have been shot in a way that people their age group can relate to them and they make other people like myself nostalgic. My most favorite scene of this episode however was the one in which Faseeha presents her husband with the special gift! These two stars manage to make their screens thoroughly entertaining even if they get very little screen time. Their scenes always make you laugh and their timing, chemistry and acting is always faultless. The most funny part was “pehan ke dikhaye”!!

fotorcreated

There was little more variety in Shama’s scenes tonight. Most of the times she was thinking about Sikandar but at the same time she was seen doing something new every time. Also, the scene in which she was trying to move her legs went to show that her condition was not permanent. Shama is still wondering why Sikandar never got in touch with her and her mother is relying on Sikandar to tell her that he does not love her. I am waiting to see how Sikandar copes with his situation. So far he has been shown as an escapist, he is not the kind of person who looks for permanent solutions but for temporary ones.

The scenes covering phupo and Zaman suggested that Zaman was probably involved with someone in Karachi or doing something he should not be doing. They also showed that he is only getting married to Nida because that is what his mother wants.

Although Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik both failed to impress in this episode but even then this episode covered a great deal and gave me a reason to tune in next week. Tonight’s episode could have been highly poignant if the actors playing the leading roles were more comfortable with shooting emotional scenes.

Dil Banjara Episode 7 Review – Stunning Locations

Once again the breathtaking locations actually made it difficult for me to concentrate on anything other than the background! I have to admit that I was so distracted by the beauty of this place that I had to watch the episode again in order to focus on the characters and their stories! The beauty of Nepal has been captured in this play faultlessly and because of these locations you get transported to another world. Tonight’s episode showed how Nida and Sikandar were getting closer to one another. While I don’t “blame” Nida for falling for this man but it would have been better if these two did not hold hands in this episode as often as they did. For a girl like Nida, having such feelings for a man should be a big deal and holding hands shouldn’t even be an option. Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik’s on-screen couple is working for me for now mainly because of the way these two have met, away from home, new place, new beginnings. The “love at first sight” scenario however is a little difficult to relate to but then it happens all the time in our dramas. It would have been good watching Nida think about these major changes in her life- her feelings for Sikandar. I am hoping we will get to see that in the upcoming episodes. While Sikandar is busy having the time of his life in Nepal, Shama was shown thinking about him all the time. Once again Sikandar did not even bother calling Shama which went to show that he wasn’t very reliable. Although Shama’s scenes were somewhat repetitive in this episode but I also felt like they needed to be shown in order to show the contrast between Shama and Sikandar. Having said that, watching her doing something “useful” like painting or anything at all would have made her scenes more interesting.

Nida’s parents’ scene just like always was very amusing. I love the way their relationship has been shown. Even though Faseeha’s husband knows that she does not look at the world and things the way he or anyone else does but even then he keeps on doing things to make her feel special. He gets frustrated a lot and there are many scenes in which he curses her for making his life complicated but there is always one scene in every episode which shows that he loves her for who she is. Hina Bayat and Mohsin Gillani make a great on screen couple. It isn’t very often that the relationship between the hero or heroine’s parents is as interesting as it is in this drama. I actually look forward to their scenes and they never disappoint you. Every scene says something new about their characters and their relationship with each other.

fotorcreated

Dil Banjara so far is a simple story with quite a few interesting characters which give me a reason to tune into this drama every week. The overall setting of the play is not run-of-the-mill and the locations make the drama esthetically pleasing. Apart from Sikandar and Nida holding hands number of times and Sanam’s dubbed voice in the scene after they cross the bridge, this episode was directed well. Also, I feel that I do not know Shama well enough although she got plenty of screen time in this episode or perhaps she is a very simple character. In short, I am very willing to sit down in front of my TV screen next week to know more about all these characters and find out what happens next. The best thing about the way this drama is written is that I do not find myself “judging” the characters too much because I have no trouble connecting to them.

I am waiting to find out if Sikandar really is capable of loving someone and staying committed to that person. Also, will he be able to tell Shama how he feels about Nida and that he does not love her? So far he has been brushing the entire issue under the carpet. Nida said that she simply could not afford the luxury of falling in love with someone – what will she do now?

Dil Banjara Episode 6 Review – A Visual Treat

Ladies and gentlemen, Dil Banjara has finally taken off! The stunning locations, impressive cinematography and characters which are different from what we usually see in plays are making Dil Banjara a drama I can look forward to watching every Friday night. I truly appreciate the fact that the team of Dil Banjara isn’t rushing the developments in the story in an attempt to grab the attention of the viewers. Everything that was covered in this episode and even the previous one was shown in detail without putting the viewers to sleep. Adnan Malik and Sanam Saeed’s on-screen chemistry is working for me for now and there is nothing “cheesy” about the dialogues although there were quite a few romantic dialogues in this episode. Also, the director has put Nepal’s scenic beauty to good use by shooting most of the scenes outdoors.

Tonight’s episode opened with Nida’s mother waking up in the middle of the night, worried sick about her daughter. Once again her character traits were covered flawlessly and her honesty is truly admirable. In the previous episode she was conveniently distracted and in this episode the viewers watched her worrying sick about her daughter number of times. Her disappointment with Nida and Nida’s father’s reaction were covered well too. Sikandar and Nida gradually became friends and although Nida tried her best not to get too involved in the extracurricular activities but she ended up doing just that because of Sikandar and her friend. The scene in the bus and the trip was covered so beautifully that I felt like I was a part of that group. It reminded me of all those trips which I have taken with my college mates. It was nostalgic and spot on. Sikandar is not perfect neither is he an ideal like Mohid but his character is very interesting and he is playing a very active role in the story. This is Sikandar’s story just as much as it is Nida’s unlike many heroes who are usually relegated in the background. The most interesting part is that this isn’t Nida and Sikandar’s story alone but the supporting characters like that of Shama and even Nida’s father will have a bigger role to play in the drama as the story moves forward. The scene in which Sikandar gave Nida his scarf was filmy but really cute.

fotorcreatedSikandar has chosen to enjoy his trip and has conveniently forgotten Shama. This aspect of his personality clearly goes to show that he is not very responsible when it comes to maintaining relationships even when they are with people who are so close to him and that he lives in the moment. He obviously has no feelings for Shama and is not willing to deal with this entire “situation” right now. While Sikandar role as a “banjara” has been well-established in these few episodes, I had a difficult time relating to Nida’s personality in that context.

Zahra’s story took a new turn with this episode. A little bit about her past was revealed and I am wondering if the man who was shown in that scene was the same man who just got divorced. Zahra’s life is monotonous, she is frustrated most of the times and the viewers will gradually find out more about her character. Her mother’s obsession with housework and the solutions she presents to her problems were very amusing! Deepak’s character was also introduced in this episode, it is good to see Adnan Saeed on screen again but I do feel like he went slightly overboard in his first scene. Sharmeen Kashif is quite likeable in this character unlike her characters in Zara Yaad Kar and Saya-e-Dewar Bhi Nahin.

fotorcreated

Although I truly enjoyed watching this episode of Dil Banjara but once again I missed the scenes in which she could have been shown romancing with nature, falling in love with it. Sanam Saeed looked very pretty in some of the scenes tonight and it would have been great watching her think about how she felt about being in this beautiful place. Adnan Malik has definitely grown on me mainly because of the fact that his acting in this episode and the previous one was much better than in the first few episodes. The OST was used intelligently in this episode as well; I really enjoyed the scenes in which it played in the background.

My favorite scenes in tonight’s episode were the ones in which the OST played in the background when Sikandar said to Nida “mein tumhei nahin khone du ga” and the scene in which Shama was drawing Sikandar’s sketch, although Mira Sethi’s make-up in that scene was overdone but that beautiful room was captured flawlessly. Which was your favorite scene from tonight’s episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Dil Banjara Episode 5 Review – Well-Executed

This episode changed my perspective about Nida’s family in a good way and it further established Sikandar as a ‘banjara’, someone who isn’t ready to make a commitment just yet! Sikandar’s attitude tonight proved that indeed his camera was his best friend and as long as he had that and some “life” around him, he did not need anyone else. He did not even bother calling Shama and needed some space of his own – a classic case of “out of sight, out of mind”. Sikandar’s fascination with Nida was also highlighted in this episode. He found her appealing because he felt like they had a lot in common and it was a case of infatuation (I won’t call it love just yet since Sikandar is too unpredictable!) at first sight! Shama on the other hand could not stop thinking about Sikandar and has no idea that Sikandar’s proposal was merely a temporary escape from tackling the difficult situation he was in. Both these characters have been well-established in these few episodes and so far even with all his flaws, Sikandar’s character is far more interesting than that of Shama. Adnan Malik’s performance in this episode was steady enough, he manages to do well in the scenes in which Sikandar is shown as a easy going person but he cannot pull the emotional scenes off and goes overboard.

fotorcreated

Unlike the past few episodes my favorite scenes tonight were the ones which covered Nida’s family. Faseeha’s personality yet again was portrayed brilliantly; I cannot praise the writer, the director and Hina Bayat enough for translating this very special character so beautifully on screen! One minute we saw Faseeha worrying sick about her daughter and the other minute she was so distracted she even forgot that she was waiting for Nida’s call. The suggestion about the ring tone and the way all the conversations were haphazard yet poignant was simply perfect. Her character brings a smile on your face every time you watch her on screen. Also, the way the whole family came out to say goodbye, Taye’s concern and Taya giving money to Nida showed that deep down these people loved Nida. In fact all the politics that is being shown is part of almost all joint families no matter how close people are which makes this family easy to relate to but these scenes which show their concern for each other add an emotional undercurrent to this track. When Nida was leaving for the airport, the early morning, late night scene was covered well.

Nida and Sikandar’s chance meeting was a success mainly due to Sanam Saeed’s performance. She portrayed Nida’s anxiety perfectly, in fact she did really well in all the emotional scenes tonight. Nida’s new friend (Sharmeen Kashif)  is very different from her; she does not mind eating food that is not halal, she is a free soul who is much more confident and definitely not as responsible as Nida. Watching Nida making so much fuss over a lie was hard to digest since the viewers did not see her telling her father not to tell her phupo a lie. The only disappointing aspect of this episode was that even though Nida had been dreaming of visiting new places for the longest time now and this was a dream come true for her yet she was not fascinated by all the beauty of this new place. That part of Nida’s personality should have been given some screen time as well. She was more focused on doing well in the competition but a nature lover like her should have been easily distracted by a place which has a lot to offer to a tourist.

Overall, this was an entertaining and well-executed episode with quite a few good performances to its credit. Although this episode showed Nida and Sikandar’s first few scenes together but the highlight of this episode were the scenes of Nida’s family and her conversations with her father. Samina Ahmed and Hina Bayat’s characters gave the viewers a reason to laugh while Sanam Saeed and Mohsin Gillani’s scene were touching.

Dil Banjara Episode 4 Review – Making The Impossible Possible

This was an interesting episode with quite a few developments to its credit which were convincing and surprising at the same time. The way Nida’s father fought for his daughter was the most endearing part of tonight’s episode. This was a major development which was covered intelligently. Nida’s father was always shown as a person who put his daughter’s happiness before anything else and this was one of those times when he decided he needed to go the extra mile to make his daughter’s dream come true. Nida has been shown as a girl who has broken many barriers to come this far and this happened mainly because of her father’s support. It is however surprising to watch such a father settling for a spoiled phupo ka beta as Nida’s husband but it is highly likely that he might go against this particular decision of the family at some point too.

Sikandar’s ‘change of heart’ was an unexpected development which was covered in a convincing manner. Sikandar accepted the proposal but there was no excitement later on when the news was shared by Shama’s mother on the breakfast table and later on he didn’t have much to add when Shama talked about the wedding. The preview of the next episode also suggested that this was another one of the callous decisions made by Sikandar which he might not be able to stick to for a long time. If that happens, it will be more in line with his character than watching him being responsible all of a sudden. Adnan Malik’s performance in this episode was much better than his acting in the previous two episodes mainly because of the fact that he did not have to emote a lot. There were a few scenes in which he went a little overboard but overall he gave a steady performance.

fotorcreated

Nida’s mother fascination with Nishat apa’s purse, her suggestion that they should have another child and her overall personality makes her character unique and extremely likeable. I don’t remember the last time we saw such a character being shown in this light. Although most often people in the house are seen telling her off for her attitude but her relationship with her daughter and even some scenes with her husband go to show that people like her who are not like other people her age can be shown living in normal circumstances as a mother and as a wife. Hina Bayat has won me over yet again because of her impressive performance especially because it isn’t easy translating such a character on screen. She understands her character and has managed to do complete justice to it effortlessly. The way the family covered up for Nida although taya and tayee were dead against sending her to another country added a balance to the whole scenario. Everything that happened in Nida’s house today was also much more interesting than the happenings in the previous episode in particular. Tayee’s dialogue about farangi clothes was hilarious! It also showed the difference in the thinking, while Nida’s mother suggested she should wear skirts, tayee wanted to make sure it did not happen! There were many scenes in tonight’s episode which were emotional and others which made me laugh.

Apart from the unnecessary closeness between Adnan Malik and Mira Sethi which made their scenes slightly inappropriate when they could have been really cute, this episode was directed well and did not have any glaring flaws. Shama’s character does not have a lot to offer but so far Mira Sethi has been performing quite well. Sanam Saeed, Hina Bayat, Samina Ahmed and Mohsin Gillani were the stars of the show tonight. Mohsin Gillani’s brilliant performance and his on screen chemistry with Sanam Saeed has made this father daughter relationship even more special. Sanam Saeed was faultless as Nida today and tonight’s developments gave the audience more of an insight into her character.

Sikandar and Nida will cross paths once again in the upcoming episode, waiting to see how this track is covered in the next episode. This episode definitely gave me reason to look forward to more. How many of you watched this latest installment? Please share your thoughts about it.

Dil Banjara Episode 14 Review – To Marry Or Not To Marry!

All the tracks in this episode focused on shadi, whether it was Sikandar and Shama’s track or Nida and Zaman’s and let’s not forget Zehra! Honestly speaking I feel like I am getting an overdose of problems relating to marriage nowadays thanks to the kind of dramas I am following. It is especially annoying when these discussions about shadi biyah go on forever and all you are really waiting to see is whether a marriage will take place or not when all you want is more action and less talking! This episode was terribly slow. Nida’s character is getting more annoying with every passing episode and the kind of things her Taya is willing to compromise on makes his character not just conservative but a little too rigid. Zaman’s personality was already enough reason to refuse this rishta and now after this latest news it would have been good to see Nida’s father putting his foot down but on the contrary he was happy that Zaman had divorced the woman he married! While I totally understand how difficult it was for Taya and Nida’s father to cancel this marriage at this point but even then Nida’s father was introduced as someone who could have taken such a bold step for his daughter. Now he has seen just how much Taya cares about Nida therefore he is letting him make all the decisions.

Sikandar’s “surprise” did not come as a surprise at all! It was too obvious that he was doing this to make Shama’s mother happy yet she kept on wondering why he did not look as excited as he should have. Basically there are three people in this play who are getting married because they do not have a choice and one person who wants to get married but cannot because of her father’s rigid principles. Right now Sikandar and Shama’s track is easier to relate to than that of Nida’s but I can’t say that it is not clichéd. The heart attack was the biggest cliché of them all.

Dil Banjara Episode 14 Review - To Marry Or Not To Marry!

Nida has been shown as an oversensitive girl who even felt for the girl Zaman divorced so that he could get married to her! Personally I like Sanam Saeed’s acting style a lot but she does not fit into this Allah mian ki gaye role at all. At time she tends to overact in the scenes which are too emotional and that makes her character even more difficult to tolerate. Also, there is nothing new about a girl willing to destroy her entire life just to please her parents!

This episode of Dil Banjara wasn’t the least bit entertaining and the preview of the next episode suggested that Nida and Zaman’s marriage might not take place after all. The episodes shot in Nepal were visually pleasing and Nida and Sikandar’s track was definitely more interesting but these recent episodes have been too slow. Although there was tons of talking in this episode but it wasn’t the kind of episode which gives you a lot to talk about!

Dil Banjara Episode 13 Review – Foolish Decisions

This episode had quite a few developments to its credit some of which were quite clichéd and had done-to-death written all over them but all of them were shown in a convincing manner. I also hope that we are ultimately being led to a climax which will be worth the wait! Nida’s Taya abu wants this marriage to take place at any cost and watching him going the extra mile to please phupo was nerve-racking. The viewers also found out the shocking truth; phupo knows about Zaman’s not-so-secret nikkah. Zaman also shared his “grand plans” with his mother and honestly speaking this track reminded me of Safeer and his mother’s track in Bin Roye mainly because of the fact that Zaman’s mother wants to get her son married to Nida so desperately that she is willing to cheat her close family in the worst way possible in order to have a bahu of her choice. Also, Zaman will only get the haveli if he gets married to Nida. The overall scenario of course is different because Nida already knows that Zaman is married but even then she is willing to go ahead with this marriage because she would much rather suffer herself than to make her family suffer. Nida’s character has turned into a complete Allah mian ki gaye. While you completely understand why she was unable to share the truth with her father, it is difficult watching a girl ruin her life like this. Nida’s father’s majazi khuda, koi bhi faisla le sakte hei dialogues were quite disappointing because he was shown as a person with a thinking quite different from the typical mindset.

Rida and Zaman’s scene showed that he was not going to tell her about the wedding. Zaman’s character is turning into one of those black characters which are introduced in the story only to add a major twist and they don’t have much going for them. There were times when phupo felt guilty about what she was doing but it looked liked she was majboor because she did not want to let her son down. Taya Abu was majboor because of other reasons therefore this whole affair finally got this far because of all these majbooris.

Dil Banjara Episode 13 Review - Foolish Decisions

The reason behind Mehtab aunty’s heart attack had to be one of the most clichéd part of this episode. She was introduced as a strong woman who actually raised someone’s son and her own daughter all on her own but now even after being sure that Sikandar isn’t even sure whether he should marry Shama or not she wants this marriage to take place like he is the last man on earth! Sure Shama would be heart broken if she found out Sikandar never really loved her like that but then getting her married to someone who does not even feel that way about her isn’t really a wise thing to do. Watching someone like Mehtab forcing her daughter to marry Sikandar was definitely not the best part of this episode. After hearing the conversation between Shama and her mother, Sikandar decided to delay or perhaps cancel his trip. This particular scene in which he was shown listening to their conversation was the weakest scene of this episode in terms of direction. He was standing in the middle of a half-open door for the longest time yet no one noticed he was there! Nida’s scene with her mother was the only one in this episode which I truly enjoyed watching. Watching Nida think about how she felt about this entire situation would have helped the viewers relate to her character.

The preview of the next episode gave me hope that Sharmeen might tell Nida’s father and this marriage may not take place. Looking forward to Nida’s father taking a stand for his daughter in the upcoming episodes.

Dil Banjara Episode 12 Review – Slow-Paced

This episode of Dil Banjara was slow mainly due to the focus on Taya’s efforts to ensure that Nida gets her share and Nida being unable to tell her father the truth about her fiancé but like every other episode of this drama there was nothing illogical about any of the latest developments. The entertainment factor however was absent from tonight’s episode. Apart from the breathtaking locations we saw in the past few episodes, the other good thing about this drama is that so far there is always a solid reason for every major development and most often it is spelled out for the viewers. Tonight everything which Taya abu had planned and executed was clearly shown through different scenes, although these scenes could have been chopped down a bit. Also, Zaman’s explanation as to why Nida’s Taya will have to do whatever they asked from him put things in perspective. The viewers heard from Sikandar himself why he decided not to take up his dream job, something which came as a complete surprise for someone like me who was expecting him to run away once again! Shama’s decision to let Sikandar go made up for all those scenes in which she was seen thinking about Sikandar 24/7 and did not ask him before deciding a date for the marriage. It is great to see a drama in which women are not desperately pursuing a man even though both of them like him. Mira Sethi is definitely doing a much better job in this play than she did in Jhoot. It seems like her heart was in this character, perhaps because it isn’t run-of-the-mill. Adnan Malik has his own style of acting which is unconventional but then there is nothing conventional about Sikandar’s character either.

Although it was somewhat frustrating when Nida was not able to tell her father the truth but the way the whole scenario was covered was convincing enough. There were a few scenes in which Sanam Saeed should have underplayed the becharapan because all the rona dhona didn’t quite fit in. Taya Abu’s decision came as a complete surprise but at the same time it was good to see him looking out for Nida the way he would for his own daughter. Phupo and her son are the only negative characters in this family, rest of the family members might have problems with one another every now and then but deep down they care for each other.

Dil Banjara Episode 12 Review - Slow-Paced

Zahra and Ayaz’s track is moving forward gradually. All the conversations in this episode in Taya’s house and in Ayaz’s house clearly suggested that the primary reason why Zahra cannot find a rishta and never got married to Ayaz was that Taya Abu does not want his girls to get married to anyone out of the family. So basically, even if a guy from the family is as twisted as Zaman he is more acceptable than anyone else who might be better but is not a close family member. Hina Bayat’s scenes were a treat to watch once again; I love the way this character is etched-out and the manner in which it has been translated on screen.

The last scene of this episode was the most shocking twist so far. I am wondering how this latest development will effect the story. Although this wasn’t my favorite episode of Dil Banjara but it was definitely one which gave me a reason to tune into this drama next week too. I have to say that Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik make a great on-screen couple and I am missing their scenes together.

Dil Banjara Episode 11 Review – More Highs Than Lows

This was another interesting episode of Dil Banjara which had quite a few important developments to its credit. So far Dil Banjara has given its viewers some interesting characters and the best thing about this drama is that all the characters get plenty of screen time in every episode. None of the characters is “forgotten” which is why in all these weeks all of these characters have been well-established and I am equally interested in all the tracks at this point. The opening scene of this episode however was the weakest one tonight because of the camera shots and also because of the weak dialogue delivery by both the actors involved. Also, apart from voicing her insecurities in one of the conversations with Sikandar, Shama is being too naive especially for someone who is supposed to be an intelligent and observant person. Why can’t she tell that Sikandar isn’t excited about this wedding even though he says that his life is incomplete without her! Shama’s mother too is an independent and smart woman who somehow decided it was okay for her to force this marriage on Sikandar. The way these scenes have been shown imply that Sikandar makes it quite obvious that he is not interested in this wedding yet both these women choose to ignore it. Although Sikandar is quite selfish but somehow I find his character and his habit of putting himself before everything else and escaping difficult situations quite interesting! I am wondering if Sikandar is once again trying to escape this situation by “fleeing the country”!!

Dil Banjara Episode 11 Review - More Highs Than Lows

It was good watching Sikandar and Nida trying their best to move on but finding it hard to do so. My favorite scenes in tonight’s episode were the ones in which Nida gives Zahra the gift and Faseeha’s remarks about Zahra’s state of mind! The way this attention that Zahra is getting from someone who did not have the courage to take a stand for her once has changed her says a lot about her character. Zahra’s conversation with also highlighted her frame of mind. Faseeha’s character and her scenes are always on point. They make you laugh and fall in love with her character even more! Hina Bayat is absolutely brilliant as Faseeha. Zaman’s track took a new turn which wasn’t very alarming since his conversation with his mother in one of the previous episodes did suggest that he might be married. Although Nida’s friend told her about Zaman’s secret marriage yet the preview of the next episode suggested that Nida might go along with this wedding after all. After Zaman’s recent demand, there is no reason why Nida’s Taya and father would still be willing to get her married to someone who is not only spoiled but also greedy therefore I am wondering what turn this track will take.

Dil Banjara Episode 11 Review - More Highs Than Lows

After giving a relatively more stable performance in the past few weeks, Adnan Malik’s performance was yet again slightly shaky but he somehow fits in this role and isn’t annoying me just yet! Overall, Dil Banjara’s story is simple but I do feel that its characters add more life to the story. Also, unlike many other much hyped plays of recent times there have been no continuity or editing bloopers in the play. The fact that I am just as interested in Zahra’s track as I am in Nida’s and I actually look forward to Faseeha’s scenes goes to prove that these characters have been beautifully etched-out and their stories have been presented well on screen. Also, at this point it is difficult to tell what turn the story will take next.

Dil Banjara Episode 10 Review – Attention To Detail

Nida and Sikandar bid farewell to each other on a relatively positive note. Sikandar wasn’t looking forward to going back to Shama but his parting lines indicated that he was at least going to try not to hurt her. Although I didn’t really understand the logic behind what he said because Nida never said that her fiancé loved her but their farewell was covered well. It would have been odd if Nida left without this last meeting between her and Sikandar. Nida’s relationship with Meesha and Sikandar both has been handled well throughout and their last meeting together was also covered flawlessly. Nida’s conversation with Meesha tonight was meaningful because it reflected her frame of mind. Shama’s efforts to ensure that she was able to stand up and welcome Sikki were covered in detail as well. Although these scenes did not have a lot of entertainment value but they were definitely needed. Had Shama not been shown trying over and over again, her welcome to Sikki would have been as surprising for the viewers as it was for Sikandar! It was great watching Shama back to being her old self. When she talked to Sikandar tonight she was a lot more confident and full of life. Mira Sethi gave the scenes in which Shama was shown trying to walk her best. Although these scenes were difficult to direct but the director managed to do justice to them.

Hina Bayat’s character once again brought a smile on my face. Her obsession with Phupo’s bag and her over enthusiasm was too cute for words. I simply love how all the tracks and characters get appropriate screen time in every episode unlike many other recent dramas with a star cast and top directors in which some of the primary characters vanish every now and then and are back only when they are needed! Although there was nothing new about Phupo’s rants but anyone who has a close extended family would have been able to relate to the conversation we heard in tonight’s episode between Phupo and her brothers. The preview of the next episode also indicated that there is a good reason why Phupo is so keen on getting Nida married to her son and why she wants her brothers to sell the house. I felt for Zahra when she was overjoyed to hear that Nida had brought her a saree but her mother snubbed her. I am completely into all the characters in this play and am actually enjoying the slow pace of this drama because I am tired of watching dramas which are more rushed than fast paced.

Dil Banjara Episode 10 Review - Attention To Detail

Nida’s feelings and her breakdown was covered impeccably in tonight’s episode. Tayee’s willingness to cook for Nida was one of my favorite scenes from tonight’s episode. I love how Tayee is so judgmental and authoritative at times but it is only because she loves Nida. Also, Taya Abu’s reaction when Taye talks about Ayaz’s rishta was an interesting conversation. Like every other script written by Faiza Iftikhar this one too has plenty of meaningful conversations to its credit which might not be as powerful or deep as the ones we saw/heard in Dillagi but they always have a context and they resonate with the viewers. Most importantly the reactions and these conversations in general do not have a done-to-death feel to them. Hina Bayat is absolutely brilliant in the role she is playing, I can watch her scenes over and over again! Dil Banjara is a relatable play which makes you look forward to more. It is getting even more interesting with every passing episode and I am just as interested in Sikandar’s track as I am in Nida’s.

The best thing about this first episode was that it did not belong to one character or actor alone but all the leading characters made their presence felt. Also, this was not a typical first episode although the opening scene wasn’t new; showing how the mornings started for both Sikandar (Adnan Malik) and Nida (Sanam Saeed), but the real difference was that their mornings weren’t too different and neither were they identical. The director simply introduced the main characters and the supporting ones which will be playing an important part in the story in a subtle way which is always a great way to start a show. There are many times when writers and directors think that the viewers are not intelligent enough to pick up the cues and very often they end up spoon-feeding every tiny detail to the viewers which kills the creative element in dramas. That was most definitely not the case with this first episode. Also, I remember two dramas in particular in which the characters were introduced in a similar manner, Durr-e-Shahwar and Zard Mausam, and I remember it only too well that the households which were covered in the opening scenes were complete opposites so although it has been done before but this time around it was done differently. When you are watching a play written by Faiza Iftikhar, you can be sure of two things; the characters will not be black and white and there will always be variation in the characters.

Most of the viewers might not know that Sikandar’s character is inspired from a real life photographer which makes it even more interesting. In this first episode the viewers were told that Sikandar was brought up by his mother’s friend (Ainy Zaidi) after his mother passed away, that is all we know about his background so far. Sikandar’s present personality however was revealed in different scenes in tonight’s episode. He is a passionate photographer who loves natural landscape but he also feels that this natural landscape can only come alive in photographs when there is some “life” in it – meaning human presence. This particular aspect of Sikandar’s personality showed that even though his camera was his best friend and he loved nature but this was in no way a replacement for humans in his life. Sikandar is carefree and he lives life to the fullest but he also values human aspect of life. Shama (Mira Sethi) is someone he grew up with and both of them are very close to one another, she is the human who adds life to his photographs therefore she is very special.  By the end of the episode however Sikandar had a new definition of “zindagi” in his photography. It seemed like Shama does a lot of things so that she can be with Sikandar but she does not necessarily have similar interests. Shama’s mother is a single mother who runs a cafe, she understands that her daughter shares a special bond with Sikandar. The scene in which she talks to Sikandar about getting married seemed like the first big misunderstanding of this drama. The light manner in which Sikandar took that question and the reply he gave without giving it a second thought once again showed that he did not think things through before making a commitment. Shama’s mother and Shama thought he was committing to getting married to her but it didn’t look like he was doing that.

banjara

Nida wakes up early in the morning just like Sikandar and her interests are very similar to him as well. Although Nida has been raised in a very strict household but her father’s support has given her the confidence and freedom she needed to have a personality very different from that of other women in the house. She managed to go to college, something which is looked down upon by her taya (Munawwar Saeed) who has a stronghold in the house. The inclusion of Hina Bayat’s character in the show proves my point about the variation in characters. Hina Bayat is a versatile actress who impresses you with her performance every time therefore I am looking forward to watching more of her. Also, it seemed like her character will be a very interesting one. The “adha pait” scene in particular was hilarious. All of her scenes went to show that she wasn’t like most people her age. The relationship between Nida and her father was highlighted in this episode; their closeness and Nafees’ support and love for his daughter were the two major aspects of their relationship.

Nida and Sikandar’s first “meeting” was anything but run-of-the-mill although the outcome it seemed was love at first sight. Nida loves nature, she wants to explore the world some day and she loves poetry therefore she has more in common with Sikandar than with anyone else. Sakina Samo plays the role of the know-it-all phupo whose son is engaged to Nida.

banjara

This first episode was definitely up to the mark even with a few glitches here and there which could easily be ignored. In one of the opening scenes Nida’s father asks “Nashta lag gaya” she says, “jee bilkul aba.”  But after that we saw the women in the house struggling to make nashta and they were clearly running late. Adnan Malik was cute and convincing as Sikandar, there were times when he seemed to be struggling with those long verbose dialogues but he managed to pull it off and introduced Sikandar’s character in a likeable manner. Mira Sethi performance in this first episode was right on point unlike her acting in Jhoot which recently ended. Sanam Saeed played her character well with the exception of one scene in which Nida was describing to her friend her love for nature and exploring. The director Siraj-ul-Haq managed to show a great deal in this first episode and did so with precision. There were quite a few scenes in this episode which were beautifully shot and there were plenty of different locations in the drama unlike some dramas in which you feel like the entire serial was shot in two houses. The number one reason for tuning into this show was that it has been written by Faiza Iftikhar and secondly the main protagonist of the show is not a female but a male.

Nida’s fiancé will be introduced in the next episode and it seemed like Shama will have an accident because of which she might not be able to go with Sikandar.

Dil Aara Episode 2 Story Review – Money Can’t Buy Happiness

Dil Aara Episode 2 Story Review – This second episode of Dil Aara answered some of the questions and left a few unanswered. This, in my opinion, is such an intelligent way of taking the story forward. The screenplay of this drama so far is such that each scene leaves you curious and wanting to find out more. I absolutely love Bee Gul’s dialogues, they are always beautiful and meaningful, the use of words is always impressive too. The topics she chooses to write on are always different and her plays are hardly ever run-of-the-mill and commercial. Apart from the timeline which was slightly confusing and Usman Butt’s shaky performance, everything else about this episode was right on point.

Different Realities

The manner in which, the different realities of Dil Aara’s world were shown in this recent episode was the highlight of the episode. On the one hand, choti was impressed and in awe of Dil Aara’s luxurious lifestyle and on the other hand, there were people who could see that Dil Aara’s life was not “ideal” in any way! Choti is obviously not old enough to understand these things but even Dil Aara’s mother who should understand that her daughter is definitely not better off with a man who is old enough to be her father, chooses not to see that. The scene in which Noor Bibi questioned her about her relationship with Dil Aara, was one of my favorite scenes in this episode. Noor Bibi is more aware of the realities of the haveli than anyone else therefore apart from the obvious age difference, there has to be some other reason too because of which she feels that Dil Aara has not really won a jackpot!

Dil Aara Episode 2 Story Review - Money Can't Buy Happiness

Choti noticed the size of the haveli, the air-conditioned room and of course the chocolates but she did not notice the emptiness in Dil Aara’s eyes. Khanum kept on reminding Dil Aara that she was keeping an eye on her and knew exactly what was going on. She served as a reality check as well whenever Dil Aara was lost in her thoughts, she was there to remind her how things worked in this haveli. Nawab Salahuddin could also see that Dil Aara was lost but at the same time he expects her to adjust in her new life more quickly than any other newly-wed bride! He apologized for his absence but the apology was more of a formality. The scene on the lunch table showed who was in charge in that house and even Nawab Salahuddin did not have much of a say in front of Khanum, it seemed.

Dil Aara Episode 2 Story Review - Money Can't Buy Happiness

Characters and Performances

The characters are unveiling themselves gradually. Even after these two episodes, we don’t know much about the leading characters. Nawab Salahuddin seems like a nice man but surely there must be more to him. Dil Aara’s character is mysterious as well as likeable. The way she is trying hard to stay “attentive” in the present-day although she is still living in the past has been shown in an interesting way. Her impulsive decision to call off the engagement after finding out the truth probably out of anger than anything else is one she is finding it hard to live with. She is still in love with Mohsin and is obviously not happy. She is however wise enough to keep her feelings to herself and was shown trying her best to adjust in her new life.

Dil Aara Episode 2 Story Review - Money Can't Buy Happiness

Khanum reminds me of Hina Bayat’s character in Talkhiyan, she is another person who I am certain will have an interesting back story. I am looking forward to finding out more about her. Badruddin and Nawab Shujauddin (Usman Butt) were introduced in this episode. While the characters are interesting, Usman Butt’s acting left a lot to be desired. Kinza Razzaq has an acting style similar to that of Naveen Waqar but she is more expressive and so far she has made me feel for her character every step of the way. I also like the way she carries herself so elegantly. Hina Bayat owns her character just the way she always does. Abid Ali has a definite screen presence and it is always a pleasure watching him perform. Samina Ahmed is another actress who always performs brilliantly.

Overall Impression

I absolutely love the haunting, old, sad feel of this play so far. The screenplay is engaging and the direction is spot on too. The only scene which confused me was the one in which Khanum asks Dil Aara to go inside because it was going to be evening soon but later on everyone was having lunch and it was day time. This drama continues to remind me of Bunty I Love You, a play which was unorthodox but very powerful.

Dil Aara Episode 1 Story Review – Powerful & Intriguing

Writer: Bee Gul

Director: Khalid Ahmed

Schedule: Every Monday 9 pm – BOL Entertainment

Dil Aara’s first episode was disturbing, extremely emotional and engaging. This first episode immediately grabbed my attention and I felt an instant connection with the characters. Dil Aara’s troubles, her happy moments, her relationship with her family members and the tension in Nawab Salahuddin’s (Abid Ali) mansion was translated on screen superbly. This drama serial has been written by an ace writer who recently gave us one of the most powerful plays of recent times – Dar Si Jati Hei Sila and it has been directed by one of the most talented directors in the drama industry. The performances in this first episode were beyond remarkable therefore I have huge expectations from this drama.

Dil Aara Episode 1 Story Review - Powerful & Intriguing

Impressive Beginning

The overall feel of this first episode was melancholic. The meaningful and sad background score went well with everything which was being shown. This episode covered present day as well as the back story which made it even more interesting. Such beginnings are always more intriguing since the viewers are more eager to find out how the main protagonist landed in the situation he or she is today. All the scenes were written and executed beautifully. Dil Aara’s (Kinza Razzaq) relationship with her father (Muhammad Ahmed) was established so beautifully in this episode because of which his exit from the story had a powerful impact. It isn’t easy to establish such a connection in a short time frame but the writer, the director and the actors involved did their job so well that it felt like you knew these people for the longest time. While Dil Aara’s father was willing to do whatever it took to make his daughter happy, her mother (Samina Ahmed) did not think that investing so much money into her marriage and satisfying the greed of Mohsin’s (Umer Naru) mother was an intelligent thing to do. So far, it looks like Dil Aara’s mother was not entirely looking out for her daughter but perhaps was looking out for her own self and her other daughter too just as much. Mohsin and Dil Aara’s scenes were shot beautifully and were in stark contrast to the wedding which was being held in the present-day.

Dil Aara Episode 1 Story Review - Powerful & Intriguing

Dil Aara was full of life, she was carefree and hopeful for the future when she was getting married to Mohsin but now this marriage was like a heavy burden which she was probably carrying because of her mother. The environment in Nawab Salahuddin’s mansion was also captured brilliantly. There was a suffocation in this place, the way Khanum kept a watch on Dil Aara and her dialogues clearly showed that she was the one in control. The cold look on Kinza Razzaq’s face and her body language went perfectly with the situation she was in. I absolutely loved the scenes covering Dil Aara’s relationship with her sister.

Intriguing

This first episode piqued my curiosity because so many questions were left unanswered. Why did Mohsin disappear all of a sudden? Mohsin seemed genuinely in love with Dil Aara so why did he leave her at a time when she needed him the most? Was he also greedy like his mother? Why did Dil Aara agree to this marriage? I definitely want to know more about Khanum and Nawab Salahuddin too.

Dil Aara Episode 1 Story Review - Powerful & Intriguing

Overall Impression

Everything about this first episode was picture perfect. The overall feel of Dil Aara’s first episode was mysterious as well as unsettling. The performances were superb and the execution couldn’t have been better. The production values were impressive too. I do feel however that Kinza Razzaq’s make-up could have been better. Every scene was beautifully written and directed. The OST of this play is haunting and it was used effectively throughout. Bee Gul’s plays are always heavy-duty but at the same time they keep you coming back for more. This first episode reminded me of Bunty I Love You. I was completely sold after watching this first episode and can’t wait to tune into the next one.

Dil Aara Episode 1 Story Review - Powerful & Intriguing

Did you watch the first episode of Dil Aara? Do share your thoughts about it.

Dignity or Money! What matters the most for Pakistani Celebrities?

I also believe that Peace should prevail, for a subcontinent that has a civilisation of more than 5000 years must think about co-existence rather than vanquish. The relationship between Pakistan and India mostly remain in a state of turbulence. This turmoil in relationship also affected entertainment. For sure entertainment cannot be confined within borders it must go beyond borders. The cross border entertainment had always been fruitful to both countries and I am in full support of it.

Seriously I don’t mind if our artists are willing to work in Bollywood as long as they keep working for our industry as well. However if this becomes one way traffic then our artists should think about Dignity rather than working for Money. No work is acceptable without Dignity and Honour. Anti-Pakistan statements from across the border had always united this nation and we are capable of giving be-fitting replies if someone dare to cast evil eyes on us.

jacqueline-novogratz-dignity1

In current tense situation between Pakistan and India we have witnessed how India celebrities chose to chant slogans against Pakistan and they do have every right to support their country. Even Adnan Sami who actually got fame through Pakistan now posting tweets on social Media against Pakistan for the sake of pleasing Indian Government and trying to settle in India. When their celebrities were pouring venom against Pakistan, the audience was looking upon our artists to give appropriate replies to them but in an utter disappointment our celebrities preferred to remain silent.

11

This silence not only raised bars of concerns but question as well Is Money more important than Dignity? It is hell true that most of our artists are still keen to find opportunities to work in Bollywood and that’s why no one said anything beyond neutral statements except Hamza Ali Abbasi, Shaan, Faisal Qureshi and Ashir azeem. I am not the follower of Hamza’s Ideology but I always appreciate his stance for the country, he even mentioned his fellow acting community that when war is forced upon you it’s not too much to ask few words in support of our security forces. That’s exactly what Indian Celebrities are doing right now.

On many Occasions our celebrities claim to be patriotic but whenever it’s time to show patriotism they act like they don’t even exist on earth. The tactic of our celebrities is simple keep calm and wait for Bollywood until situation becomes peaceful again. Celebrities like Fawad, Mahira, Mawra, Ali Zafar etc should understand that they got fame through Pakistan. It was Pakistani Audience not Bollywood who made you rising stars so that world can also acknowledge you. If you are popular and people plea to watch you live, it is just because of Pakistan and not India and indeed you owe to this land. Speaking for your country in stressed situation was never too much. Bollywood is not only the destination there is so much to do in our industry at the moment. I am happy how Fawad and Mahira dropped from their respective Bollywood films and this is what they truly deserved. Feeling the pressure from our audience demanding input on current situation they both prefer to give a rational diplomatic statement of peace rather than a solid patriotic response. They didn’t even dared to write Pakistan Zindabad at the end of their statement.

mahira statement

fawad-news

I am very obliged to Pakistani Cinemas for banning Indian Films, if they can ban our artists and content then why not us? I completely agree with Ashir Azeem that a lobby is trying to create impression as if our cinema industry will crash if we stop screening of Bollywood films and this includes Humayun Saeed as well who thinks our industry cannot survive without bollywood films. Just because of your interest in earning money we cannot compromise our honour. Pakistan is capable enough to nurture its own industry it just needs support from our artists and unfortunately our artists only care about money and fame.

In my view these celebrities are more unfaithful towards country than politicians who don’t even to dare to utter one word in support of our mother land . What are your thoughts about it?

Digest Writer – Last Episode! <3

Ohkay so, this episode marked the end of the drama; Digest Writer. Even though they gave us a complete, logical & decent ending with a little tweaking in Fareeda’s happiness but to be honest I still have some mixed feelings about it not because of what Fareeda decided but because of the people she chose to stay with.

Yes, Fareeda made it very clear that it’s only because of her kids that she has decided to let go of Shehryaar, I still can’t seem to digest the fact that just because Shaukat was fortunate enough to get married to such a girl who compromised so much, sacrificed so much & kept on forgiving him for everything he used to do, he stayed lucky throughout his life. Keeping Fareeda aside I still can’t seem to understand that why didn’t Shaukat or his mother every pay the price for all the sufferings they put Fareeda through for so many years? They ruined the prime years of her life & now just when she was considering parting ways with them, they just took it as a close call & decided to change themselves? I mean it’s so unfair because it looks like it was a win win situation for them throughout their lives. They were still in a plus when they were at the lowest level of humanity & they still are in a plus just because of Fareeda’s generosity & I don’t think that’s a compensation enough that just because they understood what & how much she has given to them, they get away with everything they did so easily & spend the rest of their lives scot-free? Sajida tried to make Fareeda understand that she is now a mother & being a woman she has to showcase how big-hearted she is by forgiving Shaukat but then if she wanted Fareeda to leave everything because of her kids, Sajida should’ve left Fareeda & her kids alone too but then that’s the truth that deep down Sajida was restless because she didn’t want to lose any of the luxuries she was getting due to Fareeda & she wasn’t concerned much about Shaukat as well.

I for once wanted to hear Anwar & Zarina say that Fareeda deserved to be happy. Even if they didn’t support her, I don’t think it would’ve cost them anything to at least say that they understand how tough this journey must’ve been for her. Being parents I so wanted them to say that yes, their daughter has endured so much & she has gone through enough but right till the end they were persistent that a girl has to ‘tolerate’ so many things of her husband that she doesn’t like but then I just can’t understand when they were so conservative, how could they take Shaukat’s infidelity so lightly? I don’t think that if a son-in-law cheats on one’s daughter, the parents still believe that their daughter is bound to be patient about it & take it as a destiny’s final stamp? Yes, it can be an option for those parents who see their daughter becoming a burden on them but this wasn’t the case with Fareeda because she wasn’t only taking care of herself, her kids & her in-laws – she was supporting her parents & her siblings as well. I so wish they hadn’t made Anwar & Zarina so rigid about this matter because I really wanted to have some good memories of their characters because I really hate to say it but they come across as mean parents too, who just got lucky to have been blessed with such an amazing & selfless daughter but when it came to supporting her, they turned out to be so poor to even afford a few words of acknowledgement & consideration. Yes, even though the final decision would’ve been of Fareeda & they were right in not encouraging her to get divorced but for a moment they could’ve taken a matter in their hands & should’ve tried to do everything to ease their daughter’s pain. Farhaan gets full point for being such a darling of a brother, I loved the way he reasoned with Zareena & made her understand how much Fareeda has done for each & everyone & how the time was right to pay her back by at least understanding & supporting her. I am so glad that Farhaan gave words to what we all were feeling for Fareeda.

I am glad that all the chauvinists would be rejoicing over Fareeda’s decision because God forbid if she had opted for Shehryaar, I’m certain that a hell would’ve broken loose so in that regard I am glad that Fareeda put her kids ahead of her happiness & curbed everything else. I know other than showing Shehryaar as a selfish person, they had no option left but I still found his frustration & irritation a bit forced. I still feel they could’ve done without it as he was patient throughout these years so I don’t think there was anything bad if he seemed a bit agitated because he was eager to get Fareeda as he actually loved her. Yes, he actually wasn’t ready to compromise for Fareeda as much as he was asking her to compromise but then I still feel that he was a lot better than Shaukat & at least he made her happy & I so feel that she should be with Shehryaar because she deserves to be with a man she has always idealized & most importantly, he definitely made her happy as she was in love with him.

Now coming onto the ending scene, I was so glad to see her reaching to the peak of her success & the cherry on top was seeing Mazhar Hayat witnessing Fareeda’s moment of glory. I was actually surprised to see him around after so many years but I feel his presence completed the picture perfectly. Even though I am happy with what Fareeda has achieved & I agree to everything she had said however I feel her speech could’ve been written with a lot more sophistication & elegance because to be honest there was a lot of focus on lassan, pyaaz, chula, bartan, chamach, joota, pamper, dahi, salan, chawwal etc & it just didn’t convey the message appropriately which more or less looked like a disclaimer about how much respect the digest writers alone are entitled to. I feel Fareeda could’ve shared her struggles without mentioning her household items as well but finally, our Fareeda did it & she materialized her dream of becoming a famous writer. :)

Anyhow, I am gutted that this drama has ended but I am glad they didn’t stretch it further. Watching Digest Writer has been such an amazing experience & they actually took us on a beautiful journey where they gave us beautiful moments, they made us laugh, they made us rejoice & most importantly, they made us feel for all the characters. I will still remember the initial episodes that showcased Fareeda’s struggles & how her family stood by her side because that was the best & my favorite part of Fareeda’s life. I still feel so connected to Fareeda’s family that we got to see in the beginning & this bond is definitely going to stay. Fareeda will be one of my favourite characters because she was so much more than just a sacrificial housewife; she was generous, she was head-strong, she was cultured, she was groomed, she was well-mannered, she was very clear-headed when it came to her priorities, she was ambitiously driven & most importantly, she put her family’s needs ahead of her which makes me like her even more.

To be honest I still remember I was a bit skeptical about this drama & I even decided that I’d let it pass but I am so glad that I took my chance & fell in love with what was offered. I must commend the entire team for paying so much attention to detail which was a strong point of this project. I must commend the director Ahmed Kamran for resorting to such a perfect approach in executing this drama because he did justice to such a brilliant script & stayed true to his position. I will especially thank the writer Madiha Shahid for giving us such a beautiful drama, a perfect script & some amazing characters & in the end I will thank Saba Qamar, Gohar Rasheed, Maheen Jaffri, Aiman Khan, Mehmood Akhtar, Sajida Syed, Parveen Akbar, Agha Ali & all the actors for their brilliant performances. They completely did justice to the roles they were appointed to enact & gave their 100 percent but I will give a little more credit to Saba Qamar & Gohar Rasheed because they were so convincing as Fareeda & Shaukat & I can bet on it that no other actors could’ve portrayed these characters with so much perfection. It goes without saying that the styling team of Digest Writer has done an amazing job as well in giving perfect looks to all the actors to fit into their characters so seamlessly. They all contributed aptly in making Digest Writer a wholesome package & a journey which is so very special. Last but obviously not the least I can’t go without thanking all my awesome readers who supported me by appreciating my reviews & kept all the discussions thoroughly enjoyable. Please share your say about this episode & on the complete journey of this deeerama named Digest Writer. :)

Digest Writer – Episodes 01 & 02!

Ohkay so, Digest Writer; a new drama filled the slot of Sunday prime time with a very different plot. I must say I am pleasantly surprised with the execution of the drama & am already looking forward to the 3rd episode.

The story’s all about a girl Fareeda (Saba Qamar); who belongs to lower middle class, where every single day she gets to hear how hard her father’s working to keep the family afloat. Fareeda’s father is obviously very orthodox & staunch, that’s why he believes that he only needs to invest all his money & attention on his one & only son Farhaan. Fareeda also has an elder sister Jameela (Maheen Rizvi) & a younger one Shakeela (Aiman/Minal Khan)

Collage 01

The story revolves around how Fareeda has a passion for writing & how she finds repose when she fills the papers with her thoughts. Ignoring the objection of her family, Fareeda thinks she ain’t doing anything wrong if she is sharing her thought process with others through her stories. The only little support Fareeda has is of her college friend & her younger sister Shakeela.

The background to which Fareeda belongs, definitely doesn’t allow girls to fulfil their wishes; no matter how harmless they might be & what really creates a mountain of problems for Fareeda is when her story is published in a digest. That gives a rise to all sorts of opinions that are not in her favour but despite seeing everything against her; Fareeda remains persistent to pursue her dream of becoming a writer because the positive response she gets from the readers boosts the confidence in her that she can entertain people through her work.

Fareeda comes from a family that’s facing a lot of problems, where the financial condition of her father isn’t very strong & she has an elder unmarried sister for whom her parents are having a hard time finding a decent suitor. The only way Fareeda deals with the harsh reality of her life is by turning her reality into fictional situations that her characters are facing in her stories & that’s how she uses her circumstances as an inspiration for her stories because she takes her imaginary world as a sweet escape from what’s life’s putting her up with. Her problems not only end there but she also has to put up with the opinions or rather objection of her Pupho, who takes it as her duty to even highlight the issue of Fareeda using her pen name ‘Rashk-e-Hina’ other than her real name Fareeda, which she got after her grandmother & which she dislikes actually.

Collage 02

I must say even though the story of Digest Writer is very different, the family of Fareeda & the family of her cousin Shaukat (Gohar Rasheed) reminded me a lot of drama; Daam. I feel the execution of Daam was very realistic whereas Digest Writer has a very commercial feel to it & also the characters aren’t very subtle that’ll often make you feel that you’ve been there, seen that, but still it offers you something very different to look forward to.

There were a few interesting things that I liked a lot about this play. First one being that even though Anwar has invested a lot in his only son, Farhaan makes sure he pleases his father by studying hard & isn’t like one of those spoiled boys who exploit the love of their parents. Farhaan seemed very wise & reasonable where he seemed well aware of the fact that all the luxuries that he demands aren’t so easily accessible to his family. Another thing that I liked was the different shades in Jameela’s character. Even though she might get jealous because of the attention & the proposals Fareeda gets, still she has a very sisterly relation with her where she jokes with her, teases her & also listens to Fareeda’s words of wisdom when Jameela herself is depressed. The support Shakeela being a younger sister extends to Fareeda is also very sweet.

I know it would sound very random but I kind of enjoyed watching the character of Shaukat & his ways of wooing Fareeda, where he kept on hinting at her & still was shy to propose to her directly because he’s too scared of his own parents. Fareeda’s pupho was a perfect representative of all those people that put a pressure on others & feel they need to restrict others of the things they like to do, that’s why to get what she wanted, she felt it was important to thrash Fareeda’s writings in front of Anwar & portrayed them in a very bad light, ignoring the positives that were also a part of her story.

Fareeda’s finally on a roll where unexpectedly Rida & Sikandar who’re about to produce a drama will approach her because Rida in particular saw the spark in Fareeda’s writing that she was looking for. That will obviously create more problems for Fareeda & I am interested to see how she tackles them & convinces her father to allow her to pursue her dreams.

Collage 03

I must say all the actors have done their jobs really well & Saba Qamar looks really nice playing the role of a day-dreamer, who definitely dreams big but is well aware of her ground realities. This is the very first time I have seen Gohar Rasheed acting in a drama & I must say he was effortless in playing the role of Shaukat as well. Share your thoughts about the first two episodes of the drama; Digest Writer.

Digest Writer – Episode 23!

OMG! This episode was intense. It was directed brilliantly but I must say all the credit goes to each & every actor for performing so brilliantly that they actually fizzled out everything else & made us focus only on them. It was a nail-biting episode with amazinggg dialogues & I must commend the writer & the director for keeping us at the edge of our seats till the last moment. We still can’t predict what might happen & this is a beauty of this script.

My favourite scene of this episode? Nope, it wasn’t the proposal scene, it wasn’t the confrontation scene, and it wasn’t the confession scene. It was the conversational scene between Fareeda & Farhaan. ‘Hum baat to mazhab ki hi karte hain lekin darte ma’ashray se hain’. Farhaan promised to stand by Fareeda because he has been with her since the day her struggle started. It was that little boy Farhaan, who used to accompany her when she used to pay visits to Rida Anmol’s place for the sake of few bucks. It was Farhaan who used to go to Bint-e-Hawwa’s office alongside his sister so that she could submit her stories. It was Farhaan who has seen how hard Fareeda used to work, what sort of treatment she used to get & how she used to lie to her mother & sisters when people used to put her down. Yes, Farhaan isn’t oblivious of the fact that it’s only because of his sister Fareeda, that his parents are now living a life in luxury, he has become a doctor, and the rest of his sisters are married. Farhaan is quite well aware of how Fareeda scarified her life in order to shape the lives of her extended family too, which is why he has promised to support Fareeda no matter what her decision would be. That scene was actually quite overwhelming because even after Fareeda has done so much, now when she is in need of other’s support, she isn’t getting any or let’s say now when it’s time to ask for some payback, no one’s ready to do that for the sake of what she has done for them but it’s only Farhaan who has stood by his sister & it only took a few words from him to ease Fareeda’s pain because no one’s ready to understand her for now.

The scene in which Fareeda asks for divorce was so well-directed & well-acted. Fareeda was in a trance after she saw the opportunity presenting itself to her. This is what Fareeda has wanted all her life & she couldn’t believe that it was finally happening. Fareeda wasn’t herself & she let Shehryaar’s words get the best of her & in that moment of weakness, she asked for a divorce. It was so obvious that Fareeda herself couldn’t believe that she finally said it but then, she picked up the pieces, gathered herself & persisted upon getting her demand fulfilled & all that happened in just a spur of a moment & I must commend Saba Qamar for acting that scene out to perfection. Finally, Shaukat, it’s time for you to pay the price for all the hard times you’ve put Fareeda up with. Shaukat has all his life taken Fareeda for granted & the transition from being a rude & least-bothered husband to someone who wanted to do all in his might to stop his wife from leaving was brilliantly portrayed by Gohar Rasheed. Even though we all have seen what a bad husband he has been & even though we all have hated him for being like that, he still managed to gather some sympathy because no matter what we say, deep down we all know that if Sajida wouldn’t have been in the picture, Shaukat might’ve turned out to be a very good husband because he did care for Fareeda a bit like he didn’t want her to work when she was expecting their first child but sadly he chose to side with his mother & stopped bothering about his wife. Even though I say that I do feel for Shaukat, I by no means want Fareeda to stay with him because she deserves so much better.

Sajida & to some extent Aqeela are despicable to the core. The moment they heard about Fareeda’s decision, they didn’t care about what Shaukat must be going through or how hard it must’ve been for Fareeda to stay with them that she was pushed to the limit, rather they both were worried about what’ll happen to them as they’ll be thrown out of the house. Amusingly, they both are so dependent on Fareeda that they forgot about their own flesh & blood Shaukat & were more concerned about how Fareeda can be talked out of her decision. Yes, finally Shaukat decided to speak the truth & gave a reality check to his mother but then I really don’t get Sajida. She has ruined Fareeda’s & Shaukat’s life & she thinks just regretting what she has done& saying a few apologetic words would be enough? I don’t think it’s fair that a person can ruin someone’s life & in the end resorts to a delayed realization & an apology thinking it’ll serve as redemption!

I do understand where Anwar & Zarina were coming from. Yes, they have been very conscious of being dignified all their lives & they don’t want their daughter to have a label of being a divorcee but Zarina’s wishful thinking about Shaukat was misapprehension & nothing else. She is quite an experienced person herself & she has seen ups & downs in her life, so how can she think that Shaukat will change? A person who has been like that for 11 years can now change? I really liked the arguments Fareeda presented which made her parents speechless because Fareeda has done so much for them that now they don’t have any option left than to just side with her which sadly, they didn’t.

As much as I have really liked Fareeda’s friend Shazia, I didn’t like the way she tried to paint a terrifying picture of Fareeda’s life with Shehryaar. Yes, she was being a voice of reason & what she said wasn’t a lie as well but I don’t know why I really want to see Fareeda walking out of this misery. I really think Shehryaar will change Fareeda’s life & make it better. I also don’t agree to Shazia in a way that now just because Fareeda has kids, she is bound to stay with an infidel man. Yes, every kid is close to both the father & the mother but being a father doesn’t only mean racing with your kids or taking them to a park because anyone can do that. Being a father means setting a good example for your kids, teaching them positive things in life, treating the mother of your kids nicely in front of your kids & being a role model for them as well which Shaukat hasn’t been all these years as he was too busy in his meaningless activities, so I really don’t think that just because he has a tag of being a ‘father’, Fareeda once again has to sacrifice everything for her kids & be with a man she doesn’t love at all. I’d hate to see her becoming a sacrificial lamb who first sacrificed her happiness for her parents, then her husband, then her in-laws & now her kids. By the way Surraiya’s question to Fareeda asking if her mother has fought with her father spoke volumes about the kind of impact Shaukat has on the kids.

I don’t know why but I have a feeling that Shaukat will now change & Fareeda will stay with him!?! May be Shehryaar’s presence has been important in a way that it brought drastic changes in Fareeda’s life. First when he came, she got married to Shaukat & now his re-entry will force Shaukat to do some thinking about how unfair he has been to Fareeda because just the thought of her leaving him actually reduced him to tears, so may be Shaukat will treat this as a close-call & change himself for good because even Fareeda seemed shaky after giving words to her thoughts as now she’s not alone & she is a mother too but I really wish Shazia hadn’t said all that to Fareeda. I liked the fact that Fareeda didn’t hide anything from Shaukat & let him know the main reason behind her demand for divorce as she has always believed in being honest & upfront. I so feel for Fareeda because like she said, in a moment of weakness, she allowed her complexes to cloud her decision & she chose Shaukat over Shehryaar. Share your thoughts about this episode & let me know how’d you guys want this drama to end? I say I want to see Fareeda living a life with Shehryaar because after going through so much for so many years, she really deserves to be happy.

Digest Writer – Episode 22!

OH MY GOD! It was such a beautifulll episodeeeeeeeee eeeeee I am so excited LOL! Yes, I am so so so glad that they’ve taken us back to that signature Digest Writer experience that we all used to love this drama for. I just can’t not emphasize enough on how beautiful this episode was & how perfectly it was pictured.

So, finally, our Fareeda got to meet her hero Shehryaar. Their meeting & that whole scene was directed so brilliantly that it just didn’t matter how much Fareeda’s fan overacted or how loud the acoustic guitar in the background was, I forgot all of that just because we got to see Fareeda & Shehryaar in one frame, having a conversation face to face which was just so special. I really liked Shehryaar’s approach where he just didn’t beat around the bush & went straight to the point in order to ask what went wrong back then. Yes, even though Fareeda lied at first, she understood that this was her time & now there was no point in concealing the truth because she has finally found the one who’d understand her, who’d listen to her & the one who will heal all her wounds. ‘Tum hi rehne dain, app kehne walay to bohat mil gaye’, yes, Fareeda now knows that it was only Shehryaar who made her feel special & who connected to her on a different level; something she had long forgotten but just a sight of him was enough to resurface all the feelings she had ever felt for him.

Ohkay so let me just confess, I take back whatever I said about Shehryaar being Mr. Traveller or conceited & what not, haha because he deserves all the respect for being sincere to Fareeda – again which is something that she didn’t get but totally deserves. I like the fact that they showed Shehryaar married someone as well because it makes it a lot more realistic. He got married but just because he couldn’t form an understanding, he parted ways with his wife but all this while he was in love with someone he fell in love with for the very first time. So, yes, Mr. Shehryaar you’re entitled to our respect & we’re extending it towards you. :)

‘Mujhe aj samajh aya hai ke jannat aur jahannum ka intekhaab insaan khud karta hai’. I just loved this dialogue, it’s simple but it covers so many aspects in so many different ways. Yes, it was nothing short of a hell for Fareeda to live with such a husband & coexist in such a family but I am glad that both Shehryaar & Fareeda have met at such a point in their lives where they have matured enough & they have gone through a lot to understand that what they had wasn’t just an infatuation, undoubtedly it was nothing but love & because of that, I feel they will now cherish each other’s presence in their lives. Shehryaar has understood that he loved Rushk-e-Hina no matter who she is & is ready to accept her with all her strengths & weaknesses whereas Fareeda now knows as well that she has nothing to hide & lie about, so she stands there with her head held high because yes, she has earned Shehryaar’s love too.

Oh so Aqeela thinks Fareeda ain’t tolerant, that’s rich! She should be the last person saying all that because if she starts counting the favours Fareeda has done for her keeping her dear brother’s attitude in her mind, she won’t be able to because that’s how much Fareeda has helped her all these years. It’s pretty clear that no matter what Fareeda’d do for them, it will never be enough. The freedom that they’ve allowed Fareeda to enjoy is actually a measly compensation for what they are getting in return from her so yes, these people can never change & the only & best way to deal with them is to pack them in a suitcase & throw them all in a sea, but I do agree with what Shaukat said to his mother, no matter how much support Sajida extends towards Fareeda & no matter how much she’d remind Shaukat to be nice to his wife, she is the one who planted a seed of hatred in his heart, so she is also responsible for ruining his relation with his wife & now there’s nothing that could undo that.

I was surprised to see Rida Anmol again. I love this drama because they never fail to surprise us, no matter how long or short a scene might be it shows how much the writer has paid an attention to detail, which makes the experience of Digest Writer completely amazing. Finally, what Shakeela said to Fareeda has come true, Rida Anmol is a nobody now & she must thank her ego for what she has gone through. I loved their meeting scene as well because without saying a thing, Fareeda said a lot & that’s the difference between Fareeda & Rida, she obviously didn’t forget what Rida did but she knows there’s no need of saying anything anymore.

Even though Fareeda & Shehryaar didn’t have a lot of scenes together, I loved the writer & director’s approach in taking it slow. They’ve reintroduced their track at a right time & they are dealing with it intelligently. I loved how Fareeda’s eyes brightened up when she saw Shehryaar & how her smile widened. I must say Saba Qamar has acted brilliantly in this drama because she portrayed all the emotions of Fareeda to perfection. It was so evident that Fareeda wanted to jump with joy after meeting him but she was trying so hard to control herself. ‘Mama sirf apne bachon ke liye kamati hain’, yes, Fareeda should know that this is exactly what’s fair, enough & needed because she has responsibility towards her kids & nothing else in fact no one else matters anymore. The preview seemed so interesting but I am surprised that her mother will try to talk her out of her decision of going for a second marriage whereas she knows Fareeda was never happy with Shaukat.

Well, before I conclude I must commend the makeup artist for keeping Fareeda’s makeup simple but giving her face a freshness & vibrancy. I couldn’t help notice how different Fareeda (Saba Qamar) looked in the flashback shots which goes to show that a lot of effort was also put in to portray how all the characters looked & a special attention was paid on them in order to match the age, circumstances & phases of their lives that they were going through. Saba Qamar looked absolutely beautiful & Agha Ali looked nice & decent too. This episode for sure belonged to our ‘kahaniyon aur deeramon ke hero heroine ki jori’. :) Share your thoughts about this episode of Digest Writer please & let me know how special it was? :)

Digest Writer – Episode 21!

Ohkay so, I am glad that they made all these developments worth our wait. It was so good to see Fareeda in control of her own life & I think the way she is behaving now & whatever she’ll do in the future is completely justified given what she has endured all these years while being married to Shaukat.

I really like writer’s approach to Fareeda’s journey & her life. Obviously, it would’ve been a miracle if Fareeda’s mother in law had changed but I liked the fact that they didn’t show anything of that sort. She is still as conniving as she was before but it’s just that it was money which could tame her & confine her in limits, therefore now when Fareeda has plenty of it, she is running things in her home & her MIL has allowed that to happen because as far as her needs are being taken care of, she doesn’t mind what Fareeda does.

Finally, Farhaan has become a doctor too & it was good to see Zarina & Anwar having a good time discussing how hard their children have worked & how it has started to pay off. Once again, I’d say that I loved Zarina’s make-over. She seems content & happy, plus for a change it was so good to see her not demanding things from Fareeda. The discussions of all these siblings have been a best part of any episode & I am glad that a couple of conversations were added this time around as well. I liked the fact that Farhaan is still compassionate towards Fareeda like he used to be as he knows how hard his sister has worked to bring him to this position & he acknowledges all her efforts which I believe was very really sweet of him.

I really believe the interview could’ve been better. Yes, those are the questions any gharelu sort of a morning show host would ask any of her guests but I feel that whole interview should’ve been written a bit more attentively. As much as I didn’t enjoy the interview, I liked the conversations after it, the way Shakeela & Farhaan made fun of Shaukat & what Shakeela said: ‘aurat ka barham uske jhoot mai hi hota hai’. Indeed, Fareeda has come a long way but no matter how popular she might get or how much money she might earn, she still has to deal with a lot of ordeals on daily basis which shows that her life is far from being perfect. I liked the reminiscence scene of Fareeda where she took a look back at her journey, from where she started, to what she faced, how she was told to leave what she loved & how she was ordered to do that again just so that she could take care of her family. I think that these timely reminders of Fareeda’s life & her conversations with herself actually made us connect to her on a completely different level, that’s why I believe all of us only want to see her happy now, even if that happiness comes to her in the form of Shehryaar.

So, Shaukat is still the same but then, didn’t he say he wanted Fareeda to become all well-groomed, well-dressed & glamorous, so now when she is all that he ever wanted, why is he still insincere to her? Shaukat only used all that as an alibi for his wrongdoings & what’s sad is, he still hasn’t changed, but then why would he? He knows he has his mother’s back & she is the one who allows him to do whatever he wants to but tells him to pretend because losing Fareeda means losing all the luxuries like sugar-free biscuits, pizzas, servants & all the perks that they’re enjoying because of her. It’s ridiculous how they have exploited her & have taken her for granted but for her sake, I wish she puts a kibosh on all of this & walks on a path that leads her towards happiness. I couldn’t stop cringing every single time Shaukat tried to put Fareeda down, he certainly is not in a position to say all of that but sadly, he’s a typical male blessed with a narrow-minded mentality where he still thinks he is something only because he’s a man ignoring the fact that he has achieved nothing in his life to be treated with respect. I loved the way Fareeda reminded him of her status because she has worked hard to earn it & she can slap a reality check on Shaukat’s face anytime she wants.

I loved the new look of Fareeda. She looked modern, classy & chic. I think the makeup, hair styling & dress designing team once again has done an amazing job when it comes to all the characters. They really looked different to how they used to be & yes, I felt relieved seeing Surraiya as a grown up kid because I dreaded seeing her as an infant even after the time lapse too. ;) Share your say about this episode of Digest Writer please. :)

Digest Writer – Episode 20!

Hmmm, to be honest, after watching the preview of next episode, I am more interested to see what’s going to happen ahead because this episode didn’t have much to offer as we’re pretty much well aware of what Fareeda’s in laws are capable of & what struggles she’s going through.

This episode focused on how Fareeda is putting up with everything she’s exposed to because everyone has pretty much snatched away the power of decision making from her. ‘Khuwab jab puray ho jatay hain to unke ehmiyat nahi rehti’. Fareeda easily told the reality of her husband because she was his dream & when his dream got materialized, he didn’t value it. ‘Mere sasural walay waisay hi hain jaisay is ma’ashray mai ziyada tar sasural walay hote hain’. The conversation between Fareeda & her friend was so well-written that in just few words & with so much ease; they shared everything with each other. I was happy to see Fareeda’s friend as well, it’s like they have always given a special consideration to the supporting characters & they always had something or the other to contribute to the scenario or the story.

Fareeda is almost done with her in laws & especially her husband but too bad, she can’t ignore the reality because she doesn’t want to burden anyone. Even though Fareeda might look like a victim here but I really like how they have tackled her character because she is too strong to be victimized. Yes, she has always compromised for the sake of her family’s & in-laws’s happiness, but there’s still something about her that doesn’t make her a typical dukhiyari mazloom aurat that we see frequenting our TV screens these days. She knows how to take a stand for her, even though most of the times she has to back out from what she took a stand for, but the way she voices out her opinion & puts forth her thoughts is commendable & makes me like her even more. Fareeda knew that leaving Shaukat’s place for a few days wasn’t a solution to her problems, but she still went ahead with it whereas if it would’ve been someone else, she couldn’t have done that.

I didn’t quite understand the logic of Fareeda’s mother. Sorry to say, I have always liked & respected her parents but the way Zareena talked her into going back to Shaukat’s place really made me dislike her for that teensy bit of a moment. Fareeda is a self-sufficient person, who knows how to take care of herself but just because a few people pried into her private life, Zareena wanted to make things right just so that she doesn’t have to answer more such questions that might come her way. I so wish that Anwar had taken a stand for her daughter once again but looks like he likes being dependent on Fareeda but in return he isn’t doing much for her.

Fareeda’s only quality that her in-laws like (but never appreciate) is the way she takes responsibility of the household expenses & just because she left for a few days, Shaukat’s place was in shambles & this is exactly what made Sajida & Shaukat bow down to her for a moment just because they understood how important it was for Fareeda to come back. Sad is, that even though Sajida knows that her husband & good for nothing son haven’t done anything for her family as much as Fareeda has, she still doesn’t acknowledge her efforts.

I so wish they had shown us how Mazhar Hayat apologized to Fareeda & how he requested her again to write for his channel, but never mind, at least we know that Fareeda is doing good for herself in her professional life & she has finally & successfully achieved her dream of becoming a renowned writer.

One thing I thought was a little odd was the way Shaukat stumbled upon Shehryaar’s letters. When Fareeda was at her own place, she had the same diary but then Shaukat also got his hands on it & got to read the letters that Fareeda & Shehryaar exchanged. I think Fareeda really kept those letters close to her heart, so it wasn’t a wise thing to show that she’d leave her diary behind that too at such a place where anyone could easily find it. I really thought after this, Shaukat would create havoc over it but for now he took it pretty well. I am sure he will use it when the time would be right because Shaukat knows how to mend the situations for his own benefit.

I really wish they had shown that Surraiya grew up a bit because that would’ve made the time lapse look a lot clearer & realistic. She’s still a toddler whereas so many things have happened in Fareeda’s life. I really like the way Aqeela sides with Fareeda but I also hate to see how Sajida insults her just because she is now dependent on her own family. This episode was still enjoyable but it was filled with all such things that we have pretty much gotten a clear picture of, but to be honest, the preview of next week’s episode has gotten me all excited because I am sure it’s going to be a power-packed episode with a lot of developments in the story & more exciting twists & turns.
