Balaa Last Episode Story Review – Lame

Opening Thoughts – Lame & Unconvincing Ending:

Ohkay so, last night Balaa came to an end. I did make up my mind that I’d watch the double episode in one go & review it right away but I dozed off in the middle & couldn’t keep my eyes open – shows the amount of patience & interest I was left with for Balaa. Anyways, just like everyone out there, I am also just so glad that it is over but talking about the last episode, to me it was lame & totally unconvincing & I have quite a lot of reasons which made me feel that way!

Reasons:

The drama lasted for 40 episodes & they dedicated 36 episodes to Nigar’s atrocities but when it came to having her taste her own medicine, only 4 episodes were kept for that? It just shows that the writer believed in doing everything that would generate ratings by pushing the negativity to whole new level week after week & when it was time for a proper closure, she made things unrealistically seamless & swift, which made me wonder why didn’t Taimoor display such wisdom & intelligence by cracking his wife’s agendas before? This is another reason which makes me feel that the ending of this drama was lame.

Nigar kept Taimoor occupied & tangled in her lies for so long & Taimoor allowed that to happen but when he made up his mind that he will now give it back to Nigar, everything was served to him in a golden platter. Everyone came one after another to confess their sins & Taimoor started finding out the truth which suggested that if everyone had kept their mouths shut, Taimoor would’ve never ever found out what actually happened & how Nigar was behind everything? Such an unconvincing way of showing the hero victorious by seeking revenge for his mother & sisters’ death whereas in reality, he didn’t do anything himself!

Taimoor made up his mind & started working on his plan of destroying Zafar & Nigar’s life. I was never a fan of Taimoor’s character because for me, he was a weak character who had no brains & no backbone & the last episode proved my point further. Whatever Nigar did with everyone & in the end Shama was in line with her character because she was shown to be a psychopath right from the beginning who had no conscience, no compassion & no regrets for what she used to do but Taimoor was raised by a God-fearing mother who instilled all that was good in him so to actually see him deriving satisfaction while Nigar cut her hair was actually disgusting. Is this what the writer was trying to show? That first you should keep your eyes closed to someone’s atrocities but when you start seeing everything, you should stoop to their level & do much worse than they did. My point is, Nigar was not mentally stable right from the beginning but Taimoor was so to me, he turned out to be a bigger culprit for pushing Nigar to that level where she lost her senses while he stood there like an amused spectator who was having a good time watching the entire circus. Taimoor was mentally stable so for him to see it all happening right in front of his eyes was disturbing. At first despite having brains, he didn’t really use them & when he did, it was only to destroy someone? So I guess it does prove his point that he himself was a Balaa like he said! No, I am not giving Nigar a clean chit at all & to be honest I expected much worse ending than she got but I wanted to see her punishing herself & not getting punished by Taimoor who in my opinion was in no place of doing that because he never once stopped her in the first place so he shouldn’t have been the one who pushed her to that limit in the end!

It is amusing that Taimoor will now get to live a luxurious life with his second wife only because his first wife Nigar loved him so much that she gave him everything that she had, be it her share in family business or her father’s home which was under her ownership too. I thought they’d show that Taimoor made Zafar go bankrupt but in the end they only showed that Zafar was made to leave the house? Zahir hai bhai, our writers can no go into technicalities & intricacies because they don’t have much intelligence as well as time to show all of that. Inhain bas burai aur negativity dikhani ati hai. It is funny that in a drama where the main character was a psychopath, she was never once taken to a psychiatrist. Why can’t our writers show proper solutions? Why is it either black or white? It is unfortunate that Nigar & Taimoor also had a baby together. Poor Saad!

Closing Thoughts – Sigh of Relief:

Well, I am glad that Balaa is over & I have never felt relieved this way before at the end of a drama. I think Fahad Mustafa should realize that apart from distributing bikes & doing Thakki Tikki Tha, he has more responsibilities as a producer & as someone who has a position in the industry to produce better dramas & not craps like these. Zanjabeel Asim Shah should take a break & stop spewing so much of negativity because it eventually comes to bite you back as well. I know it was just a drama but whatever she was trying to show didn’t really make it to our TV screens & just got lost like a lice in Nigar’s wig. Speaking of which, I now get why Ushna Shah was made to wear the wig, it was for this haircut scene in the last episode because other than that I just don’t see any justification behind such a hideous decision. Bilal Abbas Khan should start delivering dialogues properly & stop mumbling because almost in the entire episode he was inaudible & it was hard to understand what he was trying to say. Acting nikalne se pehle hi zubaan aur thook mai roll ho gai, lol. This is something that he should work on. Sajid Hassan’s acting was consistently good. Samina Peerzada was the only good thing about this drama, her persona & grace was mesmerizing in the initial episodes, too bad that Shama later died of a haircut, lol! Chalo, is se pehle ke I start giving it Mujhe Khuda Pe Yakeen Hai & Aahista Aahista treatment, I will end this review now by only saying that for me Balaa turned out to be a sick joke & I am glad it is over. Pour your heart out guys.

Balaa Episode 9 & 10 Story Review – Wedding Fixation

Opening Thoughts:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was alright. I will say that even though I know things & characters are being like this for a reason but I am not too happy about it because everything is a bit too typical & I am not liking the scenario. Yes, the story will progress this way only for Nigar’s real face to come through later & the writer is showcasing the reality with some people being too simple minded & others being too manipulative but still, I wasn’t too impressed with this episode of Balaa.

Developments:

So, Shama came to a conclusion that there was only one way Taimoor’s broken heart could be mended & that was marriage – that too with a girl who loved him. Yes, Shama’s perspective can be deemed right, she wants her son to move on & get distracted from what happened & she thinks Nigar is the right choice but to literally sacrifice her own daughter for that matter is ridiculous. Yes, Shama is simple-minded, she believes in seeing good in people but to literally ignore & forget about the nature & behaviour of people like Zafar is not innocence, it is stupidity. Shama can do all that she wants for Taimoor but to see her pushing the idea of Batool getting married to Junaid was upsetting to say the least. Shama can wish for happiness for Taimoor but she should be wise enough to know that Zafar is a very difficult person to be with so how can she put Batool in such a situation where she’d have to deal with Zafar on a daily basis. Yes, it is good that Shama wants to hold onto her relations & wants her children to do the same but I don’t think any mother is so blind to her children’s wish that she puts someone else’s happiness ahead of her own daughter’s.

Balaa Episode 9 & 10 Story Review - Wedding Fixation

Nigaar continued to weave trap around Shama & Taimoor quite tactfully. With Shama Nigar didn’t have to do much work but she kept on hovering around Taimoor trying to prove her love to him. To be honest, I kind of laughed when I heard Taimoor agreeing to get married to Nigar, like he couldn’t even stand her a few months back & now he acted like aik chai ki maar who just accepted Nigar seeing how keen she was to be a part of his life. Yes, Shama & Zafar’s brainwashing did work too but Taimoor accepted Nigar because he wanted to & because he liked the idea of being with someone who loved him more.

Balaa Episode 9 & 10 Story Review - Wedding Fixation

Junaid created a scene in front of everyone & I was amazed that a God-fearing woman like Shama didn’t deem it odd that Junaid was an alcoholic & in fact she still advocated Junaid in front of Batool saying that he will get over alcohol as its just a phase that he is going through by relying on it to forget about Zeba. Even Saleha thought Junaid’s proposal wasn’t bad & all of this was happening while everyone pretty much saw that Batool did not approve of this & she didn’t like Junaid to begin with. Taimoor did say that he will support Batool’s decision of not getting married to Junaid but I am sure he will succumb to Nigar’s pressures & even Batool will give in.

Closing Thoughts:

Overall, this episode of Balaa was just alright because I was not too impressed with Shama & her sensibility as a mother. As far as Shama’s concerns for Taimoor were concerned they were genuine but when it came to Batool it was too obvious that she was ready to sacrifice her daughter for the sake of Zafar & Junaid’s happiness by wanting Batool to mend his broken heart exactly the way Nigar would do for Taimoor. The acting of all the actors is definitely amazing & the actress playing the role of Batool stands out again. She is effortless & a fine actor. Balaa Episode 7 & 8 – Story Review

Opening Thoughts:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was nice & took the story forward a great deal however I dread that things might start to get dragged from now on considering Nigar will get what she wants & she will continue to fool Taimoor’s too-good-to-be-true family. Things might get monotonous with Nigar winning every single time but I wish we get to see her real face coming through as soon as possible!

Developments:

Saba eloped & left everyone broken hearted, with Rashida to Shama to Taimoor & his sisters. The only two people happy with this entire scenario were Zafar & Nigar. The writer quite intelligently showed the ripple effect where Nigar’s selfishness literally ruined everyone’s life & one move of hers destroyed everything. Nigar stumbled upon Saba & Mateen that is when she devised a plan of helping them out & using Mateen to throw Zeba out of Junaid’s life too. Even though Zafar loves his daughter but his love is exactly the reason why Nigar has become so evil. Zafar’s love has brought out the worst in her & it is the worst a father can do for his child.

Nigar wanted Taimoor & because of one desire of hers, she went to such an extreme that people around her had to bear the consequences. Rashida died because she could not deal with what Saba did. Zeba died because of what Junaid did to her too & all this happened only because of Nigar. Taimoor was not himself anymore & I liked how it was shown that for the first time it was hard for the entire family of a guy to deal with what happened. I liked how the writer didn’t show that Taimoor moved on quickly forgetting what Saba did. Taimoor’s question to Rashida about knowing that Saba liked someone else was spot on, it was basically Rashida’s stubbornness that also pushed Saba to do something like this plus with Nigar’s generosity, both Saba & Mateen got the edge & the courage to run away!

CYMERA_20180925_003518

It was unfortunate that Zeba’s character made an exit just like that. I wish the writer had turned her into a strong independent woman who had later succeeded in unveiling Nigar’s reality in front of Junaid. The way Zeba left rather seemed like a convenient way that the writer chose to deal with her character because right from the beginning it was suggested that Zeba was a helpless soul!

Junaid on his own was dealing with depression as well. Junaid & Taimoor are both victims of Nigar’s desire, her evilness & her selfishness & what is upsetting is that she puts on this facade which makes her look so sweet. I will add though that Shama’s emotional dependence on Nigar seemed a bit out of the place though. It is nice that Shama only believes in seeing the good in people but then to ignore the perspective & look out of her own children isn’t justified either. Shama knows too well that Taimoor does not like Nigar so to hear her take Nigar’s name as Taimoor’s future wife was upsetting. Shama is committing the same mistake as Rashida & considering Rashida was her best friend, Shama should have learned from her mistakes. In Rashida’s case, Saba had a way out but in Shama’s case, Taimoor will only sulk because he won’t find a way out as he will eventually agree to his mother’s wish of marrying Nigar.

The story of Balaa so far has shown Nigar & Zafar winning & it has set the ground for them to play but I am intrigued to see how Nigar’s reality will surface & what will be the end of her? I wish the writer does not show that committing such crimes for your loved one is justified by forgiving Nigar’s character in the end. She should definitely face the brunt of ruining so many lives.

Closing Thoughts:

Overall this episode of Balaa was a decent watch. I liked how the writer covered the mindsets of Taimoor & Junaid – two people who lost everything in love – two people who are victims to someone else’s evil plans. Junaid however had the option of standing by his wife right till the end but he gave up because Zafar & Nigar didn’t let that happen but still, there was a chance which he lost. Taimoor however is a pure victim but let’s see if he will ever confront the evil in his life. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 5 & 6 Story Review – Good Progress

Opening Thoughts:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was well executed & quite interesting. I am glad that the story moved forward & there were a lot of developments to this episode’s credit. So far Balaa does have a story that has been seen before but the kind of execution that has been given to it as well as the characters makes it interesting enough to tune to every single week.

Developments:

Zafar & Nigar knew that if they will directly tell Junaid to divorce Zeba, he will never do that out of his love for her, that is why they started with their evil mind games only to further their agenda. Nigar wants Zeba out of Junaid’s life because after that Zafar will be able to push Shama to get Taimoor married to Nigar & Batool to Junaid. Even though Zafar & Nigar spent quite a lot of money as well as energy to malign Junaid’s heart against Zeba, it was unfortunate that it did not take a minute for Junaid to believe everything that was being presented in front of him.

CYMERA_20180918_151149

At times Junaid did try to reason with Zafar & he also defended Zeba but he couldn’t stay firm because Zafar was adamant & was making sure that he kept on brain feeding his son against his wife constantly. Junaid might be the victim here but then I will label him as a weak individual who could not stand by his decision of protecting his wife & most importantly trusting her.

I guessed it right, Nigar & Zafar hired Mateen, Saba’s boyfriend, for this task. Nigar obviously saw him with Saba & knew that he would do anything to get her so I am sure she gave him 10 lacs to do this job which was a decent amount for him to get his life started with Saba on his own. Mateen did what he was asked to without thinking about the consequences that he will have to face later but for now, things turned out to be exactly how Zafar & Nigar wanted. Junaid will never be able to unsee walking onto Zeba & Mateen in the same room. I so wish they show Nigar & Zafar paying a huge price for ruining someone’s life like that.

CYMERA_20180918_151013

On the other hand, Saba tried to talk to her mother once again but Rashida continued to praise her luck of scoring a damaad like Taimoor. I agree, anyone would want a damaad like Taimoor but it can not & should not be ignored if the girl who is being forced to marry someone is mentally ready for it or not? Saba did say rightly so that Taimoor might be nice but not necessarily meant to be an ideal for her but Rashida chose to overlook Saba’s wishes because she liked Taimoor more than Saba did. Whatever happened later was basically a result of Saba’s choices not being respected. If Rashida had allowed her daughter to be with the one she loved, this wouldn’t have happened!

Nigaar was lurking around only to showcase how nice & kind-hearted she is. Zafar didn’t want to be a part of Shama’s happiness but Nigar scored some brownie points by going against her father in front of Shama. Nigar is quite manipulative & it is sad that she is building up her relationship after destroying a couple of other relationships. Let’s see what price she will pay.

I feel Zeba should bounce back & show it to Junaid that she is better off without him. It was sad seeing her defeated & dejected already by saying again & again that she was nothing without him or his support. I am sure after their divorce the character of Zeba will make an exit from the story but I hope they keep her as a side track & do show her progress & how she works to become an independent strong woman only for Junaid to realize later that he was wrong about her. Let’s see if this happens.

Closing Thoughts:

Overall, this episode covered a lot of scenarios & details. I also like the filler scenes that Balaa has, it keeps things flowing nicely & help changing the scenario as well – like Taimoor & Saleha’s argument over different topics & Taimoor & Shama’s conversations, all of that makes it quite interesting. All of the actors are performing brilliantly but Sajid Hassan is fun to watch, Zafar’s mannerism is hilarious & the way he speaks, Sajid Hassan has really nailed this character. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 37 & 38 Story Review – Better Late Than Never

Opening Thoughts – One Sided Match Again:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was definitely on a better note after a long long time but then, it will once again turn into a one-sided match with Taimoor winning this time around. If they had started this two-way battle before, things would have been much more interesting but chalo better late than never.

Nigar Confessed & Taimoor Has A Plan:

Taimoor finally got hold of the missing piece of puzzle that he was looking for in order to make up his mind about Nigar as well as decide a punishment for her. Hamza’s mother did the honors of being the first one to spill the beans about Nigar’s evil plans & that started the entire conversation where Taimoor got to hear the series of confessions about what Nigar has done all this while but I am glad that while telling who the mastermind was, everyone owned their mistakes, crimes & wrongdoings too. Hamza’s mother was the first one to tell Taimoor about how she played with Batool’s feelings while still blaming herself for Batool’s death & yes, she is also responsible. Similarly, Zafar let Taimoor know about how he lied about Batool’s death & ruined Junaid’s life in order to support to Nigar & he also held himself responsible for everything that happened. Later Saba told Taimoor everything that Mateen did & how Zeba paid the price for it & yes, she was regretful too because she did not feel pity on anyone to be with Mateen in the past.

Nigar finally got to confess how she maligned Taimoor’s heart against Batool & to hear her confess all of her wrongdoings while still making herself look like a victim was quite interesting, that entire scene was written well & the writer showed how Nigar had no remorse over what she has done in the past. This is what sets her apart from everyone else who has supported her through the course of destroying everyone – they all have regrets, they all are trying to make amends, they all are looking for some sort of punishment in order to put their hearts to ease but then comes Nigar who still fails to see her fault & thinks she is the victim here, not only that, she tried to justify her wrongdoings by giving it a name of love that she has for Taimoor!

When Taimoor left his job, I was thinking how did it even matter but I was pleasantly surprised when Taimoor came back home with a plan in his mind & not only that, he made Saba challenge Nigar & then one thing lead to another. Nigar ended up giving him the authority over her share of the business & now Taimoor is going to use it as a playground to destroy Zafar & Nigar. It is good to see Taimoor using his brains & coming up with one plan after another while still maintaining composure in front of Nigar. He knows that Nigar only wants his love & attention, so he is giving it to her but on his own terms.

The last & final nail in the coffin was Taimoor’s interaction with the doctor. Well, I will say though that the entire scene was poorly done because Nigar & Taimoor took their child to the hospital, so for a gynaecologist to show up & then say she’ll send a paediatrician was illogical. Also, that doctor attended Saleha’s Nikkah, if not Nikkah but she did get to know about Saleha’s condition when she was in the hospital so it is highly unlikely that she hadn’t seen Saleha or recognized her before. The beginning of the entire conversation where the doctor was still unsure & ambiguous was unconvincing but I think they now just focused on getting the message across to Taimoor therefore they didn’t really put much thought to the technicalities. Well, this was yet another secret that was unveiled in front of Taimoor & he got another answer that he was looking for. Not sure if he will also find out about what Nigar did to Shama before she left the house because that is one more thing that he should know. Anyways, Taimoor posed to be all calm & collected in front of Nigar but deep inside he had this storm brewing in his mind & heart where he wanted to punish Nigar for all that she has done. I will once again say, better late than never.

Closing Thoughts – Is It Ending?

Well the preview of the next episode was basically a recap of the entire drama & this is something they usually do when the drama’s ending in the next episode so yes, I’d be glad if they end Balaa next week but I totally feel it will be rushed because dedicating 36 episodes to the negativity of one character & only 4 episodes (or even 6 for the sake of argument) to bring the character to punishment is not too convincing because we can see the imbalance in the ratio. Anyways, it is good that the door to Nigar’s destruction has finally opened & we’ll get to see her end. For the first time ever since the drama has begun, I found Bilal Abbas Khan’s acting convincing & strong. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 35 & 36 – Story Review

Opening Thoughts – Full of Negativity:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was again disturbing. I think the writer has crossed all the limits of showing negativity & I find it funny that she has made one character so powerful where she gets to decide who lives & who doesn’t. Again, Samina Peerzada’s phenomenal acting is one thing but I did not feel for Taimoor whatsoever. I think more than focusing on how negative Nigar is, people should focus on what’s happening to Taimoor & Co. only because of their stupidity. No wonder why a human being is blessed with a thing called brain & how it is given to us to be used so yes, those who do not use their brains get to face the dire consequences – at least this is the message that I will pick up from Balaa & reinforce!

Nigar Gets To Decide Who Lives & Who Dies:

Nigar cut Shama’s hair & alongside she cut her windpipe too because of which she stopped breathing & passed away, at least this is what the writer has shown so yes. When all of this was happening, I was just wondering about how unconvincing this entire scenario was where Taimoor left for Dubai. I mean after losing 2 sisters & seeing how his mother lost her senses, was it really THIS important for him to go to Dubai & leave his mother on the mercy of Nigar that too when he had already started suspecting that she was the one behind everything that was going wrong in his house. I think it was absolutely stupid of Taimoor to leave Shama with Nigar & on top of that expect that she will take care of her, that too when Nigar was full of excuses & had made it very very clear that she had a full time responsibility of their son Saad. Not only that Nigar even misbehaved with Shama in front of Taimoor so many times so what kind of royal treatment was he expecting that Nigar will give to Shama in his absence? Yes, on his own Taimoor did appoint Saba to take care of Shama but he could’ve moved Shama to Saba’s place, away from Nigar at least.

Nigar to koi supernatural being hai bhai, she gets to decide who lives & who doesn’t. She is the one wrecking people’s home on a whim. She is responsible for Saba Mateen’s divorce. She decided when Zeba, Saleha, Batool & Shama’s life should end. I think in stead of naming this drama Balaa, the writer should’ve named it as Baba because Nigar is this pohanchi hui cheez who has a full fledged control over people’s lives & deaths. I guess now Taimoor, Junaid, Zafar & Saba are left – 10 episodes more & all these guys will die too & then Nigar will be the last woman standing!!!

Taimoor hadn’t seen Shama, he had no idea where she was or what she looked like before she left the house but when he came to that hospital, he told the receptionist that Shama’s hairstyle was a little strange. Fail!

Zafar is left alone now that Junaid has gone to the police. Taimoor didn’t find out about it yet but looks like he will. Ohhh pata hai mai dar gai when Taimoor finally made up his mind that he will destroy Nigar & turn her into ibrat ka nishan. Matlab was he waiting for 3 women to die so that he could take this step? Why didn’t Batool’s death shake & wake him up. Bhai ye to self-imposed misery hai. Shama imposed Nigar on her entire family so nateeja ye nikla.ย Taimoor didn’t do anything that he was supposed to so he better not hold Nigar responsible for everything.

Closing Thoughts – Sick Joke:

Balaa has turned into a sick joke to be honest. I didn’t feel a thing because now the negativity has gone to some other level where it doesn’t even seem realistic. In stead of blaming Nigar, I will blame others as well for being too dumb-headed to not do anything the moment they started suspecting that Nigar’s intentions were evil. Too much hi ho gaya hai bhai. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa. I’m off to watch a light-hearted Korean Drama & I’d suggest you guys do the same in order to come out of this depression that you all must be feeling after watching such a disturbing episode.

Balaa Episode 33 & 34 Story Review – Change of Thought Process

Opening Thoughts – Some Change Finally:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa focused on the change that the characters were going through. It seems the characters who were stuck in a rut have finally evolved & are now approaching things with a different perspective which I admit was good to see as well as highly required!

Nigar Is Evil – We Know – What’s New?

Taimoor has now started to treat the way Nigar wants to be treated but from his side there’s a lot of tact involved. Taimoor knows that his mother is not in a condition to go through the scrutiny of Nigar that is why for a while he changed his attitude with his wife because he dreaded the time Shama will be left alone with Nigar once Taimoor will be gone. Taimoor has started to have a feeling that things went wrong after Nigar came into his life that is why he is in search of a clue that will help him solve this conundrum.

Junaid finally spoke up & I am glad he didn’t beat around the bush & clearly told his father that he has found out about what he has done. Asad Siddique’s acting in that scene was brilliant. Even though he has been a part of this drama right from the beginning but for the first time he made his presence felt in this episode. Junaid can see that his father is also struggling & is burdened with the guilt that is why he made it very clear to Zafar that he has lost his son. Junaid was already depressed but it was good to see him not losing his senses further after finding out the truth, rather he took it as an eye opener that forced him to do what was right like confessing his crime in order to do right by Batool’s family.

Taimoor left but before that he made sure Shama was well taken care of & for that he gave that responsibility to Saba. Saba is trying to pick up the pieces therefore she takes it as an opportunity to compensate for the pain she had caused to Taimoor & his family plus it will evolve into a relationship later on. Everything else is fine but can someone please comb Saba’s hair & tie them in a braid or a bun? That entire hair situation of Saba’s seems to be messy & problematic. Saba claims to have made Shama’s hair so I wish she had used the same comb/brush for herself too.

There seems to be no limits for Nigar that is why she even assaulted Shama but honestly speaking, I didn’t feel much while watching that scene because the writer has shown us so much negativity from her side that I feel desensitized towards anything that Nigar puts other through. Apparently Nigar can literally kill people without batting an eyelid so for her to give her mother in a law a beating is not a big deal. Taimoor thinks he did something huge by catching Nigar’s lie about changing Shama’s clothes. They have been showing this laughter of Taimoor in the precaps since last 2 weeks so I assumed it would be something big but this is what he was laughing about? I think its time for us viewers to laugh now!!!

Taimoor has once again pledged that he will punish Nigar which made me roll my eyes because again, this was coming from someone who decided to believe that his sister was cheating after marriage only because his wifey said so!!! Taimoor in my opinion is a failed character also I am sure he won’t be the one finding out the truth – Junaid’s confession will do the actual work & in the end Taimoor will take the crown for everything because he happens to be the actual hero of the drama!?!

Closing Thoughts – Disturbing Preview & One Dimensional Characters:

The preview of the next episode was disturbing. I think the writer has shown us enough so there’s no need to push it further & beyond. They have pretty well established the fact that Nigar is evil so I guess that’s enough. Looks like next episode will again contain a lot of empty threats by Taimoor to Nigar but I am wondering when will he actually take action & walk the talk? So far he has only come up with one excuse after another, his time his excuse was his posting to Dubai as if us se pehle he was working like a detective trying to solve the mystery. Zafar is also a failed character, 34 episodes & for the half of it he kept on saying he wanted to do something for Junaid but in the end, Junaid was the one who helped himself & did what he deem right. I feel the writer focused so much on creating this evil Balaa that she forget to focus on the rest of the characters & kept them pretty one-dimensional, I mean look at Taimoor – zero growth. Look at Saleha, poor girl was so simple that she didn’t even know she should seek medical help for her aches. Look at Zafar, he’s got so much money but he couldn’t find a doctor for Junaid for so long!!! Anyways, Asad Siddique’s acting in this episode was top notch & the rest of the actors have performed well. Ushna Shah’s acting in the scene where Balaa hits Shama was awkward, I am sure as an actor it must’ve been hard for her to enact that scene where she has to assault a senior actor – it was too obvious. I just can’t wait for this negative chewing gum to end. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 31 & 32 Story Review – Slow Progress

Opening Thoughts – Slow Progress:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was again disturbing with not much progress to its credit. I say not much progress because the main culprit has still not been caught & no one knows much about her so far whereas the preview last week did engage me but this episode was a disappointment in that regard. Since in the previous episode, quite a lot happened so they focused on the aftermath but still, the pace of Balaa has been really slow & I am glad they air double episodes otherwise it would’ve been a huge task tuning to it (not that it isn’t still).

Nigar Hasn’t Been Caught Yet:

As far as Nigar was concerned, things were pretty normal for her which I found a little odd. Taimoor was cold & distant but still things were fine between them. In the meantime Nigar had a baby boy & Taimoor got a promotion which he wasn’t too keen about because he knew that Shama needed him the most. Shama lost her senses, obviously with so much that has happened recently, it was imperative that she lost her sensibilities but then Nigar also kept on pushing all the wrong buttons. Honestly, to hear Nigar speak so casually about Saleha & Batool was absolutely disgusting. I really wish the writer has kept a very grave ending for this character because she has really crossed all the limits!

Well, Saba came back after Mateen left her. I really wish they had shown us a bit more of their side of the story to justify how they couldn’t progress & lead a happy life after ruining Zeba’s life. Even though Mateen got a huge amount to lead a comfortable life but it was a done deal that they won’t be happy together so yes, a little more detailing in regards to their track would’ve been better. Well, Junaid also met Mateen by chance & found out the truth that Zeba was innocent & his father was the one who planned all of that. At first, I thought Junaid would give up but it was a good surprise that he didn’t jump off that building & chose to sit there introspecting over why his life turned out this way. I so wish Junaid happens to be the one who triggers Nigar’s undoing because she has put him through a lot too. Also, so much time has passed but Zafar is still stuck on how he should help Junaid or what he should do? He knows that Nigar will never help him still he is waiting for her to arrange a doctor for Junaid? Unconvincing!

Taimoor met Hamza & they both were unable to come to terms with what the other person was saying. Hamza could sense that something was not right whereas Taimoor was still siding with his wife’s version of the story that is why Hamza’s clear stance on how he was not in contact with Batool, couldn’t shake Taimoor up to suspect Nigar at least once. Well, they did show that Taimoor got a call from someone so let’s see if it was from Hamza or someone else. It looks like they will bring Saba & Taimoor together in the end which is something that I am not too keen about because after so much has happened, I want to see Nigar’s end more rather than rooting for a happy ending for a character like Taimoor who did nothing good & didn’t even live upto his relation with Batool, of being her brother, her protector, her savior! Also, in one of the scenes Nigar crossed the line with Shama by calling her ‘kaisi aurat hai ye etc’ & by the end of the episode Taimoor was flirting with Nigar trying to prove a point to Saba, like seriously, what was the writer or the director thinking? Taimoor wants Nigar to take care of Shama but when she misbehaved with her right in front of him, he didn’t utter a word!?! The characters in Balaa have been poorly written. It is too obvious that the writer focused all of her energies on Nigar’s character, that is why she was unable to pay attention to the rest of the characters or their situations.

Closing Thoughts – Disconnected Cast & Crew:

In this episode in particular, I felt the direction was a little off. The actors also seemed a little disconnected from their characters. I am sure bringing such a storyline to life wouldn’t have been easier for the actors’ themselves, may be that is why it looked like they have had enough too. Samina Peerzada’s performance was outstanding though, but then what else can be expected from an actor of her calibre. I hope they give us a detailed ending of Nigar’s character, a rushed ending wouldn’t be enough because they have put us through her torture for so long, so they need to give us a detailed end too showing her miserable, lonely & paying for her crimes. Let’s see when does it happen. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 3 & 4 Story Review – Convincing!

Opening Thoughts:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was amazing. It was well directed, well executed & well acted. Even though Balaa is in the initial stages but it has given me enough to grab my interest & make me look forward to it by the end of an episode. Even though till now we have seen family politics in this drama, I will say they have been elaborated in such a convincing manner that i actually want to see more of what the future holds of these families.

Progress In The Story:

Nigar is evil, it is unfortunate but she it. As much as you want to feel for her, you can’t. At least this is what I feel about her as of now but I hope that changes because I want to see her through her perspective but right now, Nigar is just simply evil who can not see anyone happy whereas she has a father who loves her more than anything in the world & a brother who sympathizes with her enough too. Nigar obviously wants the entire world to feel for her & even though she gets enough attention, she twists it in such a way that she sees it as if people are treating her as a laughing stock. It is sad that she hasn’t been able to come out of the self-pity mode.

Nigar literally is torturing Zeba mentally & physically as well because she knows that Junaid will not be able to do anything about it or even if he’d want to, his father won’t let him do it. Junaid knows that he is dependant on his father’s support so he hasn’t grown that courage to unhear everything that Zafar says. It is unfortunate that Zafar is going out of the way to drift Junaid & Zeba apart. It is also unfortunate that Junaid is now doubting Zeba’s character based on the mere fact that she fell in love with him before they both got married, how shallow is that? Junaid is judging Zeba as if he is scot-free & not guilty of committing the same mistake – falling in love before getting married!

Oh well, Nigar was the one who got to see Saba with her boyfriend. I am not sure why but I have a feeling Nigar is responsible for the calls that Zeba is getting & it could be Saba’s boyfriend who is calling Zeba only to get Saba? I feel Nigar must have told Saba’s boyfriend that she will pay him to blackmail Zeba & will also help him be with Saba because she knows that she needs Zeba out of Junaid’s life to get to Taimoor because then Zafar can pressurize Shama to get Batool married to Junaid in return of Nigar’s marriage to Taimoor. It does seem to be the case because the conversation that both Nigar & Zafar had about she withdrawing 10 lacs from the bank does suggest that Nigar is upto something fishy & Zafar is being supportive of her wrongdoings!

I love Shama’s character. I loved the way she reflected upon herself & how she felt ashamed knowing that Taimoor was thinking so highly of her while she was holding a grudge against Zafar in her heart. I loved that little conversation that she had with Allah where she asked for forgiveness & also asked to have a heart big enough to look past Zafar’s flaws. The last scene of this episode was brilliantly done too where Shama was welcomed with with all those insults yet she decided to put up with everything only because she was adamant to fix things & fix the broken ties. Zafar has an upper hand because Shama gets pressurized easily & unfortunately Zafar takes advantage of that. Nigar obviously has a plan up her sleeve that is why she decided to go against her father & attend Taimoor’s wedding. I can’t even begin to imagine what will happen when Nigar will become a part of Shama’s beautiful little intimate family, she will ruin everything that they have.

Ending Thoughts:

Overall, this episode of Balaa was quite interesting & built up the curiosity of what is yet to come perfectly too. I must say it is commendable how all the actors have embraced their characters & make it seem so real as if they are those characters. Samina Peerzada looks stunning, there is so much grace & beauty around her, I couldn’t stop noticing how beautiful she looked. Sajid Hassan is superb as arrogant Zafar. Ushna Shah has shown so much of improvement over the period of time & she really is outdoing herself in every other project but in Balaa I have a serious issue with her wig, I don’t see it complimenting her look so not sure why she went for one. Bilal Abbas Khan is convincing as Taimoor but I am sure he will get a lot more chances in the remaining drama to showcase his acting skills. The supporting characters have done a great job. The OST is nice but it reminds me of an Indian Song Tosay Naina Lagay. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 29 & 30 Story Review – Depressing

Opening Thoughts – Nigar Has Too Much Power:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was depressing & after watching it I not only felt disturbed but also wondered what the writer was trying to achieve by showing all such things? I understand that the writer has tried to make a point as to how someone evil can ruin a happy family unit but then all the things that have happened so far makes me wonder that isn’t the writer trying to give too much power to the culprit? Things have been unfavorable yes, but to make her the reason behind people’s deaths is too much? First Zeba, then Batool & now Saleha? Who’s going to be next? Shama, then Taimoor, then Junaid, then Zafar & in the end Balaa Nigaar herself? That’s the only justified ending I see of this drama. The only guy who will & who should survive is Yaqoob, as a compensation to all the beating he’s got so far!

Sad State of Affairs:

Nigar came back but then she again left after having a spat with Taimoor. What does Nigar expect? She has not accepted anyone from Taimoor’s family. She has literally ruined everything like she is not sincere to anyone including Taimoor so what does she expect – does she think Taimoor should hold her in his lap & twirl around singing a song of how she had made him so happy? Nigar is troubled so for her to expect only good things coming her way is her own mistake that too when she herself hasn’t done good to anyone around her.

Junaid is engulfed in guilt that is why he was trying to find some repose in Shama’s lap. Zafar says that he wants to do good by Junaid but then he is not helping him at all. The first thing Junaid requires is a good psychiatrist who can make him come to terms with what has happened in his life & then give him the courage to own what he has done, but then this won’t happen because when it comes to showing these subjects, our writers always take a short cut & resort to an easy way out by ending that character’s life in a suicide. Yes, Junaid has hit the rock bottom but in stead of showing the pile of clichรฉd negativity, the writer could also have shown something useful in the form of Junaid’s sessions with the doctor but no, itna time aur deemagh kiss ke pass hai, inhain to bas ratings chahiyen!

Ohkay so, the writer has tried to show that just because Nigar didn’t tell anyone about Saleha’s condition, it got worse but then wasn’t Shama living with Saleha under the same roof? After Nigar left & went to her father’s home for 2 months, in those 2 months didn’t it ever occur to Shama that she should take her daughter to the hospital herself because as we can see, Saleha was suffering from chronic pains on a regular basis. Forget about Shama who is too bholi for her own disadvantage, didn’t Taimoor get a chance to pay heed to his sister’s condition considering his Balaa Nigar was gone home & he was alone spending time with his family? Yes, I am not a fan of Balaa’s character (I will refer to Nigar as Balaa from now on) but then again those around her have also only worked towards ruining their own lives so Balaa can not be held solely responsible for the things that have happened.

After so much has happened, Taimoor said he couldn’t find a the missing puzzle to complete the real picture but then this was coming from someone who actually didn’t do anything when Batool died – rather he chose to believe Balaa immediately that just because Hamza ran away, Batool definitely must have been cheating on Junaid, therefore he was justified for firing bullets at her or even Hamza? Taimoor has time & again showcased how brain-free he is therefore whatever he says now doesn’t make an ounce of a difference.

Saleha passed away but Safdar chose to stand by her. That entire scene was emotional & acted well but then, the amount of depression it caused was too much because all I was thinking about was the writer’s motive behind showing all of this. She has given Balaa a bit too much power over others where she always gets away, no one has the courage or brain to put two & two together & she ends up taking lives of others too but indirectly? Yes, Balaa has always initiated & instigated such situations but the saints & goodie-two-shoes characters have also played a part equally in reaching such limits. I will not hold Balaa responsible for all that has happened because Shama was the one who forced Taimoor to get married to her, Taimoor was the one who chose Juniad for Batool, Shama was the one who didn’t do anything to stop this marriage from happening in fact she used to convince Batool too & now Shama didn’t even notice the pain Saleha was suffering fromโ€ฆI mean c’mon, a mother always is vigilant towards her children but Shama is a gone case.

Closing Thoughts – Sickening Route To Ratings:

This episode of Balaa was disturbing & the writer should practice introspection after writing a drama like this. I remember loving & reviewing Zanjabeel Asim Shah’s Marasim, so I know that is her caliber but not sure what made her write Balaa??? The producers should be ashamed a little for going this far in order to generate ratings. What kind of dramas are they making seriously? It is shocking. This drama is full of negativity, I wish I could use the other word but I won’t because everyone knows as it’s self-explanatory. The only thing I find enjoyable is Zafar’s character, his antics & his mannerisms are funny. Sajid Hassan has nailed it. Bilal Abbas Khan should go for some lighter roles, they will suit his personality a bit more. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 27 & 28 Story Review – Dude Turning Into A Dud

Opening Thoughts – Are Things Ever Going To Change?

Ohkay so, this was yet another average episode of Balaa with nothing much happening & things being one-sided yet again. I think they have used a lot of episodes to establish the fact that Nigar is selfishly evil & she will go to any extreme to make things work only for herself so I am wondering when will the story come to a point where everyone else will find the truth about what she has been doing all this while?

Taimoor Is a Dud:

When I saw the preview last week, I was actually excited that may be Taimoor’s probing will actually bring him to a conclusion that Zafar’s entire family has been lying about the way Batool died but Taimoor didn’t disappoint & proved yet again that he is practically & literally brain-free. All Taimoor had to do was follow the lead of his evil wife to come to a conclusion that Hamza ran off to USA because may be he was caught with Batool? I mean these guys lost a family member in such a tragic way but none of them has done anything to find out the truth? Taimoor was disturbed & riled up but just a half-baked truth was enough for him to forget all about what happened to Batool, how she was killed & move on in his life? This dud had an audacity to doubt his dead sister that may be she was cheating on her husband? Wow!

Nigar met Hamza’s mother & just like that, everything happened according to her plan. The way the writer has made Nigar the mastermind in every single situation now seems forced & unrealistic. I’d say that Nigar is not only evil but she is definitely very very lucky that she is surrounded by such people who are dumb & pure duds because so far no one has been able to put two & two together. I actually thought that Batool’s death will push Taimoor & he won’t sit still until he finds out the truth but he was casually sitting in his office & then also went to pick Nigar up because he believed she was right!?! When did it all become about Nigar & not Batool? Hearing Taimoor say all those things to Shama made me want to bang his head on the wall!!!

Junaid has lost his senses & there’s a slim chance that he will become normal again. I hope he spills the beans & tells the truth to Taimoor & Shama because he is already feeling guilty. Nigar already hates her brother so Junaid should give her all the more reason to do so. Saleha is unwell & now Nigar is set to take revenge from her because she thinks Saleha riled Taimoor up by telling him about the quantity control in kitchen. To be honest, our nazuk mizaj Taimoor did set Nigar straight after finding out about her locking methods, I couldn’t stop laughing as to how low the level of the story has reduced to. I mean Taimoor lost a family member a few days ago & he completely forgot about it because he had bigger & more important things to react upon – doodh, cheeni, patti & ghar ke naukar, lol! Seriously. Nigar lying about Saleha’s condition was again a pathetic situation.

Closing Thoughts – I’ve Run Out of Words:

This drama does not make sense anymore. Does anyone have an idea when does this torture end? Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 25 & 26 Story Review – Who’s The Real Killer?

Opening Thoughts – Burdensome:

Ohkay so, watching this episode of Balaa was quite burdensome & I have a feeling that things will continue to become more disturbing after this incident. After this episode, I am honestly not sure how far will I be able to push myself to watch this drama which is disturbing & depressing because such dramas are not what I resort to TV for. I am not giving up on Balaa just yet because I want to see if things will change on Taimoor’s side or not but yes, if they will keep on pushing the same one-sided agenda then I will stop watching & reviewing Balaa.

Who Actually Killed Batool?

Batool died and we all know that it was Junaid who pulled the trigger but for me the real question is that who actually killed Batool? Junaid, Shama Nigar, Zafar or Taimoor? It is too obvious that now the story will revolve around Taimoor’s confused mental state where he will be faced with one lie after another regarding Batool’s death but then, will Taimoor ever be able to reach the crux of all this? The way Taimoor immediately calmed himself down after hearing Dr. Hamza’s name went to show that even though Batool died, he still couldn’t help doubting his sister? Taimoor himself saw that Junaid was putting Batool through mental torture by drinking in front of her so why did he even let an ounce of suspicion stop him from getting him arrested & punished? Did Taimoor actually think that Junaid had the right to take Batool’s life even if he saw her with Hamza? Ohkay, we can give it to Taimoor that he didn’t want people to talk about Hamza & Batool’s affair & he wanted to get to the crux of it himself but then again Taimoor’s first reaction should have been that he wanted to see Junaid behind bars by hook or by crook!

Shama’s question to Taimoor before the phone call which said ‘Batool khush to hai na’ was ironic. They got Batool married out of her will, they made sure to let Batool know that she had zero support from her family members, they made it clear to her that her happiness meant nothing to them & there she was, asking Taimoor whether Batool was happy enough or not? Ironic!

Well, since our Masoom Clan is too bhola the Chalak Clan continued to fabricate one lie after another & in the middle of all of this, Nigar was again looking for a chance to play the victim. Taimoor did turn a blind eye from her but for how long? I think this incident should change the dynamics & it’s high time that the Masoom Clan gets some Chalaki too.

Closing Thoughts – Will The Dynamics Change?

This episode of Balaa was disturbing but I hope with this, the story changes because they have taken a lot of episodes like more than half of the drama to show the evil dominion of Nigar & Co. so the monotony should break now. I think this should serve as an eye opener for Taimoor & Co. where they actually start analyzing things to understand the game that Nigar has played with them for so long. Goes without saying that Balaa has given the viewers a chance to see some amazing performances though. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 23 & 24 Story Review – Unconvincing

Opening Thoughts – Unconvincing:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was boring & unconvincing to say the least. All the things that are happening in this drama are amusing & just make no sense because at one hand the writer has given us such a conniving character but on the other hand we have such foolish characters who are digging their own graves. Despite not having a new story, Balaa still had a lot of potential but because the writer has reduced its level to such petty issues which revolve around jharu pocha, this drama has lost its impact!

Taimoor is Guilty & Junaid is Bipolar:

So, Taimoor got Batool married to Junaid & just like that, he woke up in a bad mood & turned against Nigar. Similarly, the woman who was stuttering in front of Nigar just a day before now started showing her tantrums & started speaking against her that too in front of her son, yes I am talking about Shama. The way the writer has fluctuated their characters & their reactions make it harder to take them seriously. Kal tak to Taimoor gave Nigar an award for being the best beti bahu biwi & now he didn’t even care & just left her on her own to do whatever she wanted to, that too when she was in the middle of an argument with Shama holding a mop in her hand?

I totally agreed to Nigar when she said that Taimoor was actually feeling guilty & was misbehaving by putting all the blame on her for Junaid’s drinking problems. No matter what Taimoor does or says, nothing will undo the damage that he has caused & the fact that it is he who has destroyed Batool’s life. The way everyone reacted upon finding out about Junaid’s drinking habit was so amusing, like what did they expect that he will leave everything only because he got married to Batool? Didn’t they know that the addicts have to go to a re-hab in order to leave it behind but all these naive people actually thought that shadi will act like a desi todka & har marz ki dawaย & bring Junaid out of this? Seriously? Which world do they live in???

Junaid’s bipolar attitude is the last thing I wanted to see but unfortunately, the entire episode of Balaa was filled with him & his pathetic antics where he was either drinking, intimidating Batool or creating an issue over nothing. Junaid obviously is having issues trusting Batool because he thinks Zeba who loved him betrayed him so Batool who didn’t even want to get married to him wouldn’t be loyal to him. I totally believe that Taimoor should have had a conversation with Junaid in order to make up his mind & to find out if Junaid was in the right mindset to get married to Batool.

Again, it is so unconvincing that Junaid puts up an act in front of his in-laws & everyone believes him while completely ignoring the fact that Taimoor as well as Saleha also saw him drinking when they entered his room. The way this entire matter has been handled in this drama is quite unconvincing to the point of being ridiculous.

Nigar continued to make an issue over petty things & now Taimoor has directed his yelling energies towards his wife. This sudden flip in his attitude just didn’t make sense right from the moment the episode began. Well, Batool was trying go put up with Junaid but then even she was left confused with his behavior as he acted like a complete bipolar who was putting up an act of being nice as well as torturing Batool at the same time.

Closing Thoughts – This Might Get Depressing:

Overall, this episode of Balaa wasn’t special & was filled with unconvincing situations. The note at which this episode ended might change things in this drama for the better but I do have a feeling that everything will get depressing from now on. Balaa Episode 21 & 22 Story Review – One Sided Match

Opening Thoughts – One Sided Match:

Ohkay so, Balaa is basically a one-sided match where Nigar is the winner & everyone around her is either too dumb or mentally deranged that no one can decipher what she is upto & even if there are a few people around her who know what she is doing, they have forfeit the match because they are just too scared. It is no fun watching Balaa because every single situation is just so predictable that even before something happens we all know that Nigar is going to win!!!

East or West, Nigar Is The Best:

Nigar devised a plan to get rid of Hamza, how new right? She knew that Hamza’s mother was not in a favor of his marriage with Batool therefore she utilized that aspect to turn everything in Junaid’s favor. She called Hamza’s mother up & told her to diss Batool because that will then guarantee her departure from Hamza’s life!!!!!!!!! To be honest, in stead of being intrigued or eager to know what is going to happen, I find it quite amusing when I see Nigar’s reactions as it is always just so obvious that she will get away with everything & no one will even bat an eyelid. Just so unrealistic!

So far I felt that Shama was a weak character but I hereby declare Taimoor as not only a weak character but a worst character too. His tunnel-visioned brain & prowess to see only one-side of the picture is commendable. It is so funny how easily he has started to doubt & low-key detest his mother based on the opinions of that girl who he wasn’t even interested in getting married to a few months ago. The way he wordily awarded Nigar as the Best Beti Bahu Biwi was so amusing. I mean getting an award from a guy who can barely use his brain (if he has one) is soooooo big right? Hah! Anyways, can Taimoor be rational & mature? I don’t get why he is always just so worked up at everything that happens around him? Ye bas cheekhne ke liye hi rakha hua hai, no wonder why he is screaming in the title poster too, because that sums up his entire shallow & dimwit personality in one shot!

I am disappointed in Shama. For a woman who has raised her children on her own, she should have stood like a wall between Batool & Junaid. That’s alright if she couldn’t prevent her son of drifting apart from her but when it came to her daughters, she should have been like a rock, standing by them come what may but oh well. Shama’s character is real but in this scenario it seems very unrealistic that she has lost her daughter to kal ki ai hui Balaa? For a widow who has raised her children herself, Shama should have been very strong. There’s a huge difference between being God-fearing, simple & between dimwit & stupid!

So, even after witnessing that entire scenario himself, Taimoor chose to believe that a man like Zafar had actually ordered a JUICE for his drunkard son & not only that, he also believed that his drunkard son Junaid was actually going to drink that juice? Hilarious. Anyways, Batool & Junaid got married just like that, awwww & guess what, he is still drinking, duhhh! To be honest, this entire ticker stating ‘Sharab Noshi Haram Hai’ doesn’t do anything when what they are promoting is totally opposite. All those scenes showing Junaid all drunk & Zafar casually conversing about it like how much did it cost etc are basically feeding it subconsciously into people’s minds because a mere verbal warning is not as effective as those visual scenes which are repeatedly being aired in Balaa promoting heavy drinking!

Closing Thoughts – No Fun:

Anyways, it is no fun watching this drama anymore because things have become so one-sided it is not funny. The preview of the next episode made me LOL too because now this worst character Taimoor will be using his hands & screaming his lungs out on Junaid for drinking after marriage? I mean he rejected a Doctor because of his ego, so what was he expecting from a loser like Junaid who already was known for drinking? Too much! Please share your thoughts about this annoying episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 19 & 20 Story Review – Petty Issues

Opening Thoughts – Petty Issues:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was again alright because the focus on petty issues makes it hard to take this drama & its characters seriously. The story hasn’t really made much progress that is why the main topic of discussion happens to be things like chicken, yakhni, sonf, massi & joshanda. I totally understand that our writers take pride in showing close to reality stories but then no one is really looking forward to close to kitchen dramas because I don’t think viewers who spent a fair share of time in the kitchen want to be reminded of the ingredients they should be adding in the next month’s grocery list while watching a drama. Balaa had a lot of potential but these petty issues have reduced it to something else & make it look like a joke.

Shama & Taimoor Are Weak Characters:

Taimoor has finally started seeing Shama through Nigar’s perspective. To be honest, I feel both Shama & Taimoor deserve what is happening to both of them because when they don’t want to help themselves, no one can actually help them either. Shama & Taimoor were well aware of Nigar’s nature before the marriage took place so it is ridiculous to see Shama allowing Nigar to do all this & Taimoor believing in one-sided picture that Nigar is painting in front of him.

No matter what, just like a mother knows her child in & out, a child also knows about the strengths & weaknesses of his/her parents. For Taimoor to actually believe that Shama is mistreating Nigar is quite unconvincing. Taimoor really doesn’t know how to maintain a balance in the first place & that makes him quite a worst character who has no brains to analyze the situation himself. When he got married he rubbed his family on Nigar’s face & now she is doing everything to remove the traces of that rubbing.

Balaa Episode 19 & 20 Story Review - Petty Issues

The only good thing in this episode was a face off between Shama & Taimoor where Shama fully supported Batool. At that moment I thought Shama has finally redeemed herself but oh well. Even after Batool told her that it was Nigar who sent Taimoor to that cafรฉ as she knew Batool was meeting Hamza there, Shama in stead of doing something about it went to Nigar to plead her case? Like seriously? After everything that Shama can see & understand about Nigar, she still thinks Nigar will do as she requests? Also, when Shama can take a stand for Batool in front of her son Taimoor, then why did she say that she won’t be able to do anything if Taimoor fixes her marriage with Junaid? Seriously?

Closing Thoughts – Fab Acting:

As the drama is progressing I am losing my interest in it because I am tired of seeing this one-sided match. Also, what more is going to happen for everyone in Taimoor’s family to tell him the truth about Nigar & show him the other side of the picture? Everyone can see that Nigar is lying to him & making things up yet no one says a word & let’s Nigar do more damage? The situations were petty but the acting of everyone was quite intense & they did a fab job especially Samina Peerzada & Meherbano. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 17 & 18 Story Review – One Sided Story

Opening Thoughts – One Sided:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was again alright. It surely qualifies as a decent watch but as far as the story is concerned, there is nothing special about it. The main reason behind the story not being too appealing is that the writer has made everything quite one-sided where the evil is winning & the good is being exploited to the max that too because of its own shortcomings!

Nigar Has Taimoor’s Family Wrapped Around Her Finger:

As usual this episode of Balaa showed how everything was being turned in Nigar’s favor. Shama felt guilty & she is allowing Nigar to walk all over her only because she wants to keep peace in her household. Shama can clearly see that Taimoor has gotten attached to his wife that is why she not only went herself but also told Taimoor to curb his ego & bring Nigar back. It is good that Taimoor is pretty straight forward & doesn’t shy away from letting Nigar know what’s on his mind, at least he is approaching this relationship with transparency since day 1 but Nigar on the other hand takes pointers only to manipulate Taimoor further.

Shama can clearly see what is wrong with Nigar but she is choosing to stay silent from now on because she has realized that she can not compete with Nigar, she just doesn’t stand a chance of winning in front of Nigar. Batool has also started trusting the wrong person here because Nigar just wants her to get married to Junaid so she will obviously spin the situation against Batool so that she becomes heart broken & agrees to marrying Junaid.

Balaa Episode 17 & 18 Story Review - One Sided Story

The only thing I liked in this episode was the change in Zafar’s attitude towards Nigar. He can clearly see how he has raised Nigar & how it is back firing on him. It was good that he not only took a stand but also conveyed it very clearly to Nigar that he will destroy her life by spilling the beans if she will not oblige. That was the only unexpected & good twist that this episode of Balaa offered & I am keen to see if Zafar will set Nigar straight or not.

Shama is giving Nigar way more freehand than she deserves. I think in stead of crying helplessly, Shama should get her act together & undo Nigar’s evil plans. Don’t tell me that Shama will even allow Nigar to control her diet plan too? That entire scene was bizarre to be honest & as much as I want to feel for Shama, I don’t because she has brought this upon herself by her own choice & she is only making Nigar stronger by not doing anything about it.

Closing Thoughts – The Scenario Should Change:

Overall, this episode of Balaa was alright. I really hope things should change but I can only see things getting worse because now even Taimoor will believe Nigar & sympathize with her more while misunderstanding his mother, what a dud character I must say. I really think the writer shouldn’t have made things so one-sided because everything seems pretty unconvincing now. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 15 & 16 Story Review – Nigar Is Winning

Opening Thoughts – Decent Episode

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was decent. It is pretty obvious that the story of Balaa is nothing new, it is based on an evil character Nigar. Balaa shows how far Nigar can go & wherever she goes, she only brings destruction, be it her own home & now the home of her husband. Top notch acting & skilful direction makes Balaa a decent watch but more than that I hope to see someone standing upto Nigar & her evilness!

Nigar Is Winning A One-Way Battle:

Taimoor has started to see things through Nigar’s perspective. Though Taimoor is not fully convinced but it won’t be too long before that happens because firstly Shama is not behaving the way she should & secondly, Nigar is constantly brain-feeding to make him see what she wants him to. Slowly & steadily, Taimoor has started to react on things that he wouldn’t have before his marriage that is only because Nigar makes sure that nothing goes unnoticed in front of Taimoor. Taimoor trusts Batool but only because he was pushed & pressurized by Zafar, he reacted.

Batool’s character is definitely nice, like she started thinking about what Taimoor expects from her & how she should not do anything to shatter it. Batool likes the guy who happens to be Shama’s doctor but oh well, Nigar had to find out about it as well. It is too obvious that Nigar is now going to invest her energies on ruining Batool & Doctor’s relationship so that she gets married to her hopeless pathetic brother Junaid. The way Nigar got involved in this entire matter once again showed that she now found herself a new adventure that she was ready to take on.

Balaa Episode 15 & 16 Story Review - Nigar Is Winning

Nigar is slowly & steadily drifting Taimoor apart from his mother & sisters but it is unfortunate that none of them is doing anything to stop her. Shama can see what Nigar is doing & so does Batool but they are too forgiving I feel or are just ignoring things for the peace which Nigar is bent on ruining. Nothing can be expected from Saleha because she is too sweet & simple but at least Batool should speak up. Shama should make up her mind, either she wants to side with Nigar & ruin everything or she needs to take charge of the situation. Yes, Shama is simple & doesn’t posses such a nature to create issues but she has seen how Nigar is disturbing their lives that too with the support of Zafar, so Shama should really buckle up & do something about it.

Nigar is evil, so much so that she even held her father accountable & told him off for supporting her brother Junaid. I guess this is enough to see the kind of a person Nigar is because when she can not even stand her brother, then no wonder she is causing so much pain to Taimoor’s family. For a second I did feel good when Shama ignored Nigar even when she constantly spoke about taking the charge of household expenses but then Shama lost control & let Nigar rule her again.

After Nigar left, it was too obvious that Taimoor was missing her & then he got the time to analyse the situation & unfortunately, he deemed Nigar right & felt that Shama was wrong. Oh well, the troubles for Taimoor are far from being over because now he has started to trust Nigar more than he should & she deserves.

Closing Thoughts – Looking Forward To More:

Overall, these two episodes were definitely better than the last few episodes but I wish they do not prolong Nigar’s mind games & her winning for too long. I don’t know why but I have a feeling Zafar’s servant has an important role to play in the future, I hope there is something more to that character. Let’s see. Balaa Episode 13 & 14 Story Review – Mind Games

Opening Thoughts – Stuck In A Rut:

This episode of Balaa didn’t really take the story forward but focused on how the dynamics of Taimoor’s household changed because of Nigar. I do understand that they are showing everything for a reason but I find things too unconvincing especially Shama’s blindness & forced innocence. I hope to see a shift in the scenario & I also hope they don’t drag Nigar’s mental superiority for too long!

Nigar’s Evil Mind Games:

Nigar knows Shama in & out that is why she is exploiting her innocence to the fullest. We all know Nigar is evil but then there is no fun in the game considering how Shama is deliberately getting exploited at the hands of Nigar herself. Yes, it is good that Shama wants Taimoor to be happy & have a normal relationship with Nigar but then she knows Nigar enough to calculate that everything that she says is not as simple as it sounds.

Nigar came up with a plan of pushing Shama away from Taimoor & Shama obediently obliged? It didn’t even make sense to be honest. Yes, Shama is respecting the boundaries that Nigar is setting but then Nigar is not a stranger for Shama to not really understand what she is trying to achieve? Everyone in that family including Taimoor was aware of Nigar & her nature before they got married so how come Taimoor isn’t able to figure out that the difference in Shama’s attitude could be because of Nigar? It could be her doing? Taimoor has spent a lifetime with his mother to know that she will never say or do anything to emotionally upset him or anyone else for that matter so yes, seeing Nigar running a puppet show & Shama acting like her puppet is not too exciting!

Balaa Episode 13 & 14 Story Review - Mind Games

Batool is the only sane one in this family because she sees Nigar for who she is but even Batool isn’t saying anything. Batool could see that Shama was disturbed, she was upset but even Batool didn’t bother talking to Taimoor to put things into perspective.

Shama pushed Taimoor away on Nigar’s suggestion, she also scolded Nigar in front of Taimoor that too on Nigar’s suggestion, but even then Nigar made an issue about laundry so I guess that should have acted like lightbulb moment for Shama that despite doing everything as per her wishes, Nigar is adamant on ruining the atmosphere & dynamics of the house so she should back-track a little & analyse things before becoming too submissive. I wish Batool opens up & tells Taimoor the reality because like she said, she knows that Shama is only going to suffer in the end by agreeing to everything that Nigar is demanding from her.

It is obvious that Batool will probably get rejected by the mother of the guy she likes & then she will have no choice than to get married to Junaid. I didn’t feel anything for Shama to be honest because she dealt with Zafar & Nigar enough to know that they will only create issues for her & her family so now to see her getting distressed wasn’t striking any chord!

Closing Thoughts – Scenario Should Change:

Overall, this episode of Balaa despite being decently executed didn’t do much in terms of story. I would like it more if they show someone counter-arguing Nigar & Shama not just giving into everything that her daughter in law says. The acting of everyone & the direction is spot on though. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

Balaa Episode 11 & 12 Story Review – Nothing New

Opening Thoughts – Been-There-Seen-That:

Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was alright. I seriously dread as I can foresee things becoming monotonous & one-dimensional henceforth. Even though the fact has been established that Nigar is evil & she will break Taimoor’s family apart, I still wish there’s more to it than seeing the entire family becoming victim to Nigar & her evilness.

Nigar’s Manipulation & Shama’s Forced Innocence:

Nigar & Taimoor got married & right from the beginning where Taimoor relied on the truth & let Nigar know what his family means to him, Nigar started relying on lies to drift him apart from those he loves.

I wish Shama wasn’t this simple minded or she was not so forgiving for her own disadvantage. Even though Batool has clearly said that she doesn’t want to get married to Junaid, Shama still couldn’t find the courage to let Zafar know clearly that Batool has rejected Junaid’s proposal. To be honest, seeing Shama feeling bad for how Nigar turned her into a culprit in front of Taimoor didn’t make me feel bad for her because firstly, she was the one who deemed Nigar as the only & most suitable option for Taimoor & secondly, she has spent a life time with Zafar as well as Nigar to know how cunning they both are, so why was she now feeling bad as if Nigar did something that was not in-line with her nature? Even when Taimoor spoke about Nigar in the initial episodes, he was pretty clear about her that she only spewed venom every time she opened her mouth so how & most importantly why did Shama assume that Nigar must have changed. Taimoor can obviously be mistaken because Nigar is actually making it look like she genuinely cares for Taumoor’s family but then again, I wish Taimoor was a bit alert too as he himself was well aware of the mindset Nigar had before their marriage, so to expect her to change overnight is not anyone else’s but his & Shama’s own mistake.

Balaa Episode 11 & 12 Story Review - Nothing New

Shama felt bad for the way Zafar insulted her & the way Nigar made her awkward. Everything else was okay but I guess Shama should have gotten a bit alert after Nigar told her to maintain a distance from her own son? Yes, Shama is nice & all but then, she knows Zafar in & out, she has seen Nigar grow in front of her eyes too so how come she just accepted everything that Nigar said & started maintaining a distance from Taimoor? To be honest, things would have been a bit more interesting if people in Taimoor’s family were a bit sharp & alert too because now it seems Nigar is winning & she will continue to do so because her opponents are not even in the race as they are too simple rather blind to see her manipulation & plotting.

Junaid has pretty much lost his senses, obviously what he has gone through is not something that one could get over easily but unfortunately, it is his father & sister, two closest relations who have ruined his life & they are not even taking the responsibility.

I wish there was more to Nigar, like yes her character has been written & portrayed intelligently but seeing her making an issue over petty things like breakfast, Taimoor spending time with his mother & sisters, Taimoor getting jewellery for Shama, Batool sharing things with Taimoor made it all very very typical & been-there-seen-that kind of a scenario. Let’s see if things will change or will continue to be this way in the future episodes of Balaa.

Closing Thoughts – One-Dimensional:

Overall, this episode of Balaa wasn’t that bad but then everything that I saw wasn’t new either. I am actually dreading that things will now become typically one-dimensional with Nigar doing what she wants to & no one judging or questioning her ways. I hope the writer does not make the story too one-sided & shows some sort of efforts from Taimoor’s side too where they try to outbid Nigar as well. Let’s see how things roll. Balaa Episode 1 & 2 Review Story – A Good Start!

Ohkay so, the production of Big Bang Productions, direction of Badar Mehmood & the writing of Zanjabeel Asim Shah – Balaa is a prime time drama that airs on Monday on ARY Digital. The first double episode of Balaa laid the foundation in which the drama is set & elaborated the dynamics between the characters & their families – where one family has made it based on their hard work & the other one has this sense of entitlement which can also be classified as a superiority complex!

Zafar (Sajid Hassan) has a daughter Nigar (Ushna Shah) & a son Junaid (Asad Siddique). Nigar is physically disabled but she uses it to her advantage. Junaid got married to Zeba, an orphan in order to save her from getting married to a man twice her age but Zafar & Nigar make sure to use it against him only to make him feel guilty all the time. Usually people think that those who are physically disabled are polite & do not blame anyone else for their hindrances but Nigar on the other hand has an inflated ego & it won’t be an understatement to say that she is quite a manipulating & conniving person who thinks she is entitled to everyone’s respect even if she doesn’t extend it towards them. Zafar is also responsible for Nigar’s attitude & the way she has turned out because he has gone out of the way to make her feel she is loved, so much so that he has fed it to her soul that she is someone super special & has the right to look down upon people even if it is her brother or his wife. Nigar is beautiful but unfortunately her personality is ugly!

Balaa Episode 1 & 2 Review Story - A Good Start!

Taimoor (Bilal Abbas Khan) is Zafar’s nephew. Taimoor’s father passed away & he has worked really very hard to bring himself to the level that he can now take care of his family which consists of his mother (Samina Peerzada) & 2 sisters Saleha & Batool. They are a close knit family that only speaks the language of love & respect with each other. Saleha takes after her mother in having a God-fearing heart whereas Taimoor & Batool are practical & not overly emotional to an extent of putting people before them even if they don’t deserve it.

Balaa Episode 1 & 2 Review Story - A Good Start!

Zafar pays a visit to Taimoor’s place on the occassion of Saleha’s engagement but just then & there he lets everyone know what his deceased brother’s family means to him by looking down on them. Zafar makes sure to let Saleha’s fiancรฉ know that he is a wealthy businessman only because of his daughter’s luck. Zafar uses Nigar’s luck as a billboard to advertise how much wealth he has accumulated over the years. Nigar sees Taimoor on the engagement & that is when she lets her father know that she likes him & would want to get married to him.

On Taimoor’s front, he likes his family friend Saba but when his mother puts forth his proposal, Saba lets her mother Rashida know that she is interested in someone else. Even though Saba mother accepts Taimoor’s proposal then & there, I am sure Saba will make it very clear to her later on that she will not get married to Taimoor. Everyone in Taimoor’s family rejoices over the news of his marriage with Saba but Zafar who comes to fix the marriage of Nigar & Taimoor ruins everything. It was good to see Taimoor standing up for himself & reminding Zafar that he shouldn’t play the Tayaย or Ghar Ka Bara card because he never once showed up at their doorstep after they lost their father but then Zafar being the unreasonable person he is, tries to pressurize Taimoor as well as his mother to accept Nigar’s proposal or else he will make sure everyone else cut ties with their family.

Zafar’s unreasonability can be measured with his order to Junaid to divorce Zeba & get married to Batool in order to prove it to Taimoor that Zafar treats them as a family. Even Junaid knows that he has no value in Zafar’s eyes & he is saying all of that to fix Nigar’s wedding but then even he starts thinking on those lines & to make matters worse, he lets Zeba know who loses her calm giving a rise to another mayhem. Nigar who already was on Zeba’s case makes sure to play the victim card & blame it all on Junaid & Zeba whereas deep inside, she feels shattered that Taimoor rejected her proposal & for a girl like Nigar who can’t take no for an answer – it is a big deal.

Well, a lot happened in the first two episodes & because of the way this drama has been directed along with the way the actors have acted, it surely has piqued my interest & I will be looking forward to the rest of the story. Even though the scenario with which the drama has begun is not something new but with Zanjabeel Asim Shah as a writer, I am ready to invest my time in this drama as I am sure she is going to bring something amazing to the table. Everyone acted brilliantly & it did look like everyone has worked really hard on the look of their characters to make them look realistic but I am not too sure why Ushna Shah chose to wear a wig in stead of relying on her natural hair? Everything else was good & just the way it should have been. These weree two very strong episodes which I will most certainly recommend to the drama buffs. I am definitely looking forward to the next set of episodes. Please share your thoughts.

Pakistani politics is a polarizing field with people always standing with their leaders and in some cases even their generations in one way or another. The biggest example of this is late Benazir Bhutto who became the head of her party and then the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan as she was late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s daughter. Her family is a prominent part of Pakistani politics with her husband Asif Ali Zardari becoming the President after her death and her son Bilawal Zardari her party’s chairman. He is currently the Foreign Minister of Pakistan. Benazir Bhutto was also mom to two daughters: Bakhtawar Zardari and Asifa Zardari. Bakhtawar Last Episode Review

When drama serial Bakhtawar went on air, many of us compared it to Parizaad and wondered if Bakhtawar will also be another unforgettable drama such as Parizaad. The good news is that Bakhtawar was a memorable drama in its own right; it was a story of resilience and uncharted strength. The ending of both the drama was more or less the same. However, it did not have the same impact which Parizaad had on the viewers. I re-watched the last scene from Parizaad and I must say that it was on a completely different level altogether. The dialogues, cinematography, and performances were mind-blowing. Bakhtawarโ€™s journey stayed true to its basic theme right till the end but the execution of this last episode could have been far better. This drama and the character played by Yumna Zaidi is definitely yet another feather in her cap. The drama also ended on an apt note if not a high one. Even someone like me, who felt that the story was stretched and some elements of the drama such as the production values and the casting were not as remarkable as some of the other dramas from a similar genre were, couldnโ€™t help but truly appreciate how the drama ended.

Bakhtawar Last Episode Review

This review is going to be more of an overview of the entire drama since I left reviewing it weekly owing to some of my reservations with the casting and execution as well as a few of the tracks. Since the main content, theme, and track of the drama were always delivered, I did not want to rant about the things that did not work for me every single week.

The Strengths

Drama serial Bakhtawar had a lot going for it. The main lead definitely was the biggest strength of the drama. The premise of the story was brand new and the way Bakhtawarโ€™s journey highlighted how difficult it was for a woman to make it on her own was the best part of the drama. Even with all the odds against her, the writer never showed Bakhtawar as a victim. She was always the hero in her story. The writer managed to show that and at the same time, the viewers got to watch the vulnerable and more human side of the character. Bakhtawarโ€™s inner turmoil was always an important part of her story. We were โ€˜shownโ€™ her ups and downs in detail and not โ€˜toldโ€™ what she was going through, which I feel made all the difference. Yumna Zaidi definitely made the right choice when she decided to take up this challenging role. This character had so many different sides yet Yumna Zaidi switched from one to the other effortlessly.

Another strength that might have gone unnoticed by many was Bakhtawarโ€™s relationship with her mother. Bakhtawarโ€™s mother was shown as a docile character; a woman who could never take a stand on her own but when her daughter decided to rewrite her story, she stood by her through thick and thin. The way her character development was shown was also interesting. In the beginning, she merely went with whatever Bakhtawar did because she had faith in her daughter. Later on, she started believing in her daughter despite all the mistakes she made and had a voice of her own. It was wonderful watching her find a voice and using it to tell Dilawarโ€™s mother off. There was a time when this woman could not even imagine thinking on her own let alone confronting another person of such high stature.

Apart from the main lead, Bakhtawar had quite a few strong supporting characters as well. Sheedaโ€™s character stood out because he was such an apt representation of people like him. Sunil Shankarโ€™s performance made all the difference; he played his role exceptionally well. Naveedaโ€™s character development made her stand out in the past few weeks in particular. The way she supported the young girl her husband married was a pleasant surprise. Mizna Waqas is an exceptional actress who always breathes life into all her characters. I absolutely loved her performance throughout and in the last episode, her expressions in particular were priceless. Mohsin played by Shamoon Abbasi was another refreshing element of the drama since we hardly ever get to see such policemen in Pakistani dramas. This was such a good way of showing how much difference a good police officer could make.

The Weaknesses

In my opinion, the production values of the drama were not up to the mark. Malik Dilawar, Hurriya, and their families were such an important part of the drama. On paper, these families represented the most affluent and influential classes of our society but their lifestyles were not depicted convincingly on-screen. Everything from their houses and workplaces looked more like that of a person belonging to the middle class. Apart from those two big cars and a handful of guards, the entire scenario was extremely unconvincing. So many scenes were shot in Dilawarโ€™s office but the whole set-up was so lame that it was almost laughable. There was a big contradiction between what the writer had written on paper and how it was executed on-screen.

Hurriyaโ€™s character was a big put-off for me. I am honestly sick and tired of watching these rich, โ€˜educatedโ€™ and modern women running after men like they have nothing better to do. The way Hurriyaโ€™s entire existence centered on getting married to Dilawar made me want to forward her scenes. Things just got worse when her focus shifted to Bakhtawar. Even her father was so actively involved in helping her, it made no sense whatsoever. Even though Noureen Gulwani is a great actress, this character did not bring out the best in her. It was really difficult for me to stay interested in this particular track and one of the main reasons why I stopped reviewing the drama.

Both the male leads in the drama were disappointing, to say the least. Zaviyar Nauman complete failed at adding any kind of charm or appeal to his character. Dilawar was an impressive and likable character on paper but the execution was so bad that he came across as too sweet, too simple, too plain. The character was well written but the execution was a major disappointment. Zaviyar Nauman was not a good choice for playing the role because he failed to add substance to the character. The production values and camera work did not help either. Ahad was another well-written character but Ali Wasi Kazmi did not have the kind of screen presence which could have made this character stand out. That is the reason why the equation between Bakhtawar and Ahad or Bakhtawar and Dilawar was never the same as the one between Parizaad and Annie.

Final Remarks

Bakhtawarโ€™s last episode had some strong messages which were completely in line with Bakhtawarโ€™s journey. The importance of education and the need for women to support each other were highlighted more than any other. Right till the end, I tried really hard to warm up to Dilawar and Bakhtawarโ€™s relationship but it did not work for me at all. I am glad the romantic angle of this relationship was completely sidelined but it also makes me wonder why it was highlighted so much in the past few weeks! It was obviously a way to keep people guessing but I think it was completely unnecessary because it would have been quite strange if Dilawar and Bakhtawar ever got together in that way. The romance/infatuation element could easily have been avoided. Overall, Bakhtawar managed to stand out because of its novel content; it is always good watching dramas that are progressive and show empowered women. That particular aspect of Bakhtawarโ€™s journey stayed on point right till the end. The final scenes showed Bakhtawar sporting a braid which means a lot of time had passed in between therefore I could not help but wonder if Bakhtawar managed to pass the competitive exams. Bakhtawar was Yumna Zaidiโ€™s show more than any other and I must applaud her for nailing her character even though she had to work alongside actors who could not even give the right expressions!

Bakhtawar Episode 9 Story Review

This latest episode of Bakhtawar was beautifully penned down and showed everything which I am certain most viewers were waiting to watch. This was the kind of episode that most women could relate to irrespective of their age or struggles in life. Our society expects more from women and judges them continuously, that fact was yet again highlighted in this episode. The bitter fact is that every woman out there needs a male โ€œsaviorโ€ no matter how strong and for Bakhtawar, Bakhtu has been that savior. Bakhtawar is finally opening up about leading a double life, something which was not addressed in the previous few episodes. Her inner dialogue was presented in the most impactful manner through the conversation between Bakhtwar and Bakhtu.

Yumna Zaidi performed exceptionally well in this recent episode, it is truly impressive watching her pushing boundaries and excelling at it while translating this role on-screen. The writer once again showed the double standards and hypocrisy of the people who claim to be righteous. Hooriyaโ€™s character continues to be the most boring aspect of an otherwise exciting drama. The previous episode suggested that everything was being shown for a reason and that reason proved to be the most pleasant surprise. I would love to see Bakhtawar moving forward and reaching her goals with her actual identity, hopefully, we are headed there.

Problems and Determination

Bakhtawarโ€™s life is not getting easier as the story is moving forward. In fact, things are getting more complicated. The opening scenes of the episodes showed how Sheeda decided to get back at Bakhtu by spreading rumors about his sister. The reaction of the people living in the neighborhood said a great deal about whom they believed and that is when Bakhtu decided to take matters into his own hands. Just like before, as Bakhtu, Bakhtawar was confident and was not going to give in to pressure. The first scene with the landlord was brilliant; it showed that even though Bakhtawar was young she knew how to take charge. The landlord and Sheeda both are hoping that Bakhtawar will marry them as a last resort but she made it clear that was not going to happen.

Bakhtawar Episode 9 Story Review

The best part of this episode was Bakhtawar facing the world courageously as a young woman who knew the odds were against her. She gave both the men who were assassinating her character a much-needed wake-up call. The dialogues between Bakhtawar and Bakhtu reflected the inner struggles of the character and also answered a few questions which might have been in the viewersโ€™ minds. Bakhtawar has been using Bakhtu as a shield and it is true that this was supposed to be something temporary which is now turning into a permanent feature and creating more problems for the protagonist. This conversation summed up Bakhtawarโ€™s motives and also reminded her of the person she once was. Bakhtawar has a different plan for the future, it remains to be seen if she will actually be able to execute it.

Dilawar and Hooriyaโ€™s scenes are more or less the same in every episode. Hooriya continues to be herself; shallow rich spoiled brat with no values. And Dilawar makes sure he lets her know that he does not even like her yet she continues to ignore the fact that they are poles apart. Dilawar and Bakhtawarโ€™s scenes in this episode were meaningful. Bakhtawar wants to come out clean but she has seen Dilawar telling people off for lying to them. I hope that Bakhtawar will eventually tell Dilawar the truth herself instead of this entire development turning into one of those misunderstandings that linger on.

Final Remarks

The pace of the drama has slowed down and some of the scenarios are repetitive at times but overall Bakhtawar still continues to be a quality drama with a protagonist that holds your interest. Unlike many other dramas nowadays, Bakhtawar does not have the best sidetrack. Bakhtawarโ€™s track continues to be the storyโ€™s biggest strength and appeal.

Bakhtawar Episode 8 Story Review

This recent episode of Bakhtawar highlighted the hardships faced by the main protagonist. The decision Bakhtawar took when she decided to be Bakhtu was not an easy one and now it is only logical to show its repercussions. She was shown having a difficult time keeping her secret now because everyone around her seemed to be more interested in Bakhtuโ€™s sister than anything else. Some of the dialogues in this episode were beautifully penned down and Yumna Zaidiโ€™s performance was outstanding as usual. I was expecting things to go in Bakhtawarโ€™s favor therefore the way the story progressed in this episode definitely came as a surprise. The one thing which has kept me hooked on this drama right from the start is the fact that the story is unpredictable. The entire situation regarding Bakhtawarโ€™s whereabouts and peopleโ€™s reactions was ironic, to say the least, and went to show how conveniently everyone judged Bakhtawar. Bakhtu, Dilawar, and Hooriya track is not the best thing about the story. I donโ€™t find myself invested in this particular track and it is serving as a โ€œdistractionโ€ for now. The story could have gone forward without introducing the โ€œprince charmingโ€ at this point.

Determined To Succeed

The story opened with Sheeda making his way inside Bakhtawarโ€™s rented place and that is when everyone from the landlady to the neighbors got involved in the situation. Since the landlord had already asked Bakhtu where Bakhtawar was, it was even more difficult for Bakhtu to make an excuse. However, one thing is certain so far Bakhtawarโ€™s confidence skyrockets every time she faces these men as a man! She does not have the same courage when she is confronting them as a female. Watching all these characterless men accuse Bakhtawar like that was unfortunately extremely relatable. This was as close to reality as it gets! Very often men, who cannot convince a woman to date or marry them, turn to character assassination as a control tactic. Unfortunately, our society is filled with such men.

Bakhtawar Episode 8 Story Review

Bakhtawarโ€™s conversation with her friend was just what the doctor ordered. I had been waiting to hear her internal dialogue and what she actually felt about this situation. Whenever she talks to her mother, she is never honest and always sugarcoats. We have only seen her crying when she is alone. This was the first time that she actually voiced her opinions. Hooriya and Bakhtuโ€™s scene yet again showed just how controlling this woman is. She really needs to get a life! The fact that Dilawar is not even convincing as a trophy husband makes this track even more annoying.

Bakhtawar and her motherโ€™s scenes are always my favorite. Their relationship has been the highlight of every single episode. Bakhtawarโ€™s advice to her mother was the best, the writer managed to say a great deal through that one dialogue. I also liked the scene covering Dilawar taking a stand for Bakhtu and for himself. He is a wise boy but unfortunately, his father sees things very differently. It was however a pleasant surprise when his mother voiced her concerns.

Final Remarks

After watching this episode, I am wondering if Bakhtawar and her mother will end up leaving this place and somehow move closer to Dilawarโ€™s family. This drama has only been on air for 8 weeks and so much has happened already. There is a lot more to look forward to. I am waiting to find out what turn Bakhtawarโ€™s story will take and when and how will Dilawar find out the truth about Bakhtawar.

Bakhtawar Episode 7 Story Review

Bakhtawarโ€™s journey continues to be filled with surprises and some of these surprises are hard to accept especially initially. Her focus shifted in this episode and by the end of this episode, I couldnโ€™t help but wonder if her motherโ€™s illness perhaps will put her back on track. Although, it was somewhat disappointing watching Bakhtawar going astray, at the same time it is good to see that she is not an epitome of perfection but she has all fundamental human emotions which made her do something which she knew was not right. So far, Bakhtawar was completely focused on her goal but her attraction toward Dilawar has, at least for now, made her go off track. She thought about her father as she smoked, I felt that this was such an intelligent way of showing why she was so adamant at staying away from these boys and wanted to live a purposeful life, other than the obvious reasons. For the first time, Bakhtawar disappointed her mother and these scenes were executed brilliantly as well. The flashback scenes were integrated well in this episode and I felt it was important to show them since so much has happened in these past few weeks that the viewers needed to be reminded of this background.

Latest Developments and My Thoughts

This latest episode opened with a dismayed Bakhtawar doing exactly what she had been successfully evading for the longest time now. Dilawar and Hooriyaโ€™s engagement made her realize more than ever just how strong her feelings for Dilawar were and how difficult it was for her to suppress them. Although, Dilawar is a sweet boy, so was Ahad therefore it is a little difficult to guess why Bakhtawar fell for him and not Ahad. This particular aspect of the track could have been taken forward slowly. Such vulnerability in a character gives it the kind of human traits which are inherently present in each one of us. Therefore, I am definitely not saying that what Bakhtawar did was illogical but I felt it was too soon. For that reason, Bakhtawarโ€™s reaction came across as a little too extreme. This was obviously the writerโ€™s way of showing Dilawarโ€™s intense emotions for Dilawar but it definitely caught me off guard.

For the first time, Bakhtawarโ€™s mother was shown thinking about her other daughter. Her thoughts resonated with me; it was easy to understand why she felt scared all of a sudden and could not cope on her own. So far, she had been calmly going along with everything Bakhtawar had been doing. However, more than once she shared her actual feelings and fears with Bakhtawar in a subtle manner. Her reaction made perfect sense, Bakhtawarโ€™s regret and the apology were also covered beautifully. This mother-daughter duo continues to be my favorite because of the performances in particular. Bakhtawar finally decided to tell Dilawar the truth after her mother asked her to do so but Hooriyaโ€™s controlling behavior stood in the way and Dilawar never found out the truth.

Bakhtawar Episode 7 Story Review

Hooriya is turning out to be one of those rich and modern characters we often see in dramas who could do a lot more with their life but end up investing all their time and energy on a man who is not interested in them. There is nothing interesting about the character so far. Noreen Gulwani is an ace actress but this role doesnโ€™t have enough going for it. Dilawarโ€™s role so far is quite plain as well; I would have liked to see more of his assertive side. When it comes to Bakhtu he is a little too laid back. Trusting him enough to not check her id card is one thing because he saved him but the fact that he did not even have his phone number was strange. Also, the entire setup of the office does not make it look like Dilawar is running a big business enterprise. Hooriya and Dilawarโ€™s scenes yet again showed how different their personalities and goals were. Hooriya wants to โ€œownโ€ Dilawar and run his life for him. Dilawar has shown his actual feelings and impression of Hooriya more than once. But, like Hooriyaโ€™s father said โ€œshadi ke baad sb theek ho jaye gaโ€ is the reason why all of this is being brushed under the carpet by the girl and her family.

Final Remarks

Bakhtawar went through so many different emotions in this episode and Yumna Zaidi switched from one emotion to the other effortlessly. She made me feel for her character even in these circumstances. My favorite scene was the one in which she calls Dilawar as Bakhtu, asking for help. Huma Nawab was equally exceptional as the mother who had so much faith in her daughter and was extremely disappointed as well as hurt by her actions. Sunil Shankar also stands out as Sheeda even though thereโ€™s nothing new or outstanding about the character but the acting definitely has made it noticeable. Good actors make even the most basic characters stand out and actors who are still learning the craft tend to make even the most likable character appear plain on screen as is the case with Dilawar.

The episode ended on an exciting note and the preview of the next episode was even more interesting. I am really looking forward to the upcoming episode.

Bakhtawar Episode 4 to 6 Story Review

Bakhtawar continues to move forward at a steady pace. The screenplay and dialogues in these 3 episodes were just as meaningful as before. The writer has for the most part kept Bakhtawarโ€™s story as realistic as possible. The main protagonistโ€™s life did not instantly change and all her problems did not disappear after the change of identity. This new identity brought with it new problems which have so far been covered convincingly. These episodes focused more on Malik Dilawar and Bakhtawarโ€™s relationship than anything else. Bakhtawar seems to be falling for Dilawar which I feel is an interesting addition because he is the kind of person anyone would find attractive. Bakhtawar is a young girl who did not get a lot of love and appreciation in life so it is natural for her to fall for someone who is giving her just that.

I still find myself comparing this drama with Parizaad because both the stories have a few things in common. The big difference between the two dramas has to be the overall production values. Apart from this, the performances in Parizaad blew me away every single time. While most of the actors are performing exceptionally well in Bakhtawar, the main lead Zaviyar Nauman does not bring anything extraordinary to the table. There are some scenes in which he does well but most of the time he does the bare minimum. Like most newcomers, it will take Zaviyar some time to polish his acting skills. Any other actor his age with polished acting skills would have made this character stand out because it has been penned down beautifully. Dilawarโ€™s character is likable in more ways than one but the charm this character clearly holds was lost in translation. Yumna Zaidi owns her character and the experienced actors in the drama never fail to impress.

Bakhtawar Episode 4 to 6 Story Review

Bakhtawarโ€™s New Journey

Bakhtawar got a job offer from Malik Dilawar right after she decided to leave the job at the dhaba. Dilawarโ€™s character is pretty straightforward; he is kind and polite but also assertive in his own way. His interactions with Bakhtawar would have been far more impactful if a more experienced actor was playing the role. Malik Sherzaman, Dilawarโ€™s father, is the complete opposite of his son. His character is somewhat clichรฉd but Qaiser Khan Nizamani makes his scenes worth watching. This basically goes to show how much of a difference an actor can make. When Behroze was introduced a business tycoon in Parizaad, his status was clearly visible from his material possessions; the grand house, guards, and everything else did not leave much to the imagination. However, in this particular case, both rich families do not have that aura. Obviously, the production house did not invest a lot into bringing their status to life on screen.

Bakhtawar continued to move forward with the same determination as before but tonight when Dilawar was about to announce his engagement, she found it difficult to control her feelings. She is gradually falling in love with this man even though she knows that he is inaccessible and not to forget the fact that he is not even aware of her actual identity. I am glad the writer has added those dialogues in which different people make fun of Bakhtawar because of her antics when she is presenting herself as a man โ€“ it makes the whole scenario more believable. Also, the light-hearted scenes such as the one in tonightโ€™s episode when the landlord comes with the rishta, break the monotony. Bakhtawarโ€™s relationship with her mother is always the highlight of every single episode. Huma Nawab has managed to strike the perfect balance here therefore Bakhtawarโ€™s mother always comes across as gentle and loving and not unwise. Even though there are times when you want this mother to put her foot down and make a few decisions on her own, you understand why she does not do so.

Bakhtawar Episode 4 to 6 Story Review

Bakhtawarโ€™s weak and vulnerable moments were translated on screen faultlessly by Yumna Zaidi in these episodes. Even though she puts up a brave face, this is not easy for her. Showing Bakhtawarโ€™s inner struggles makes her character human and relatable. Tonight, when she stood in front of the mirror and thought of everything she was missing out on because of this false identity, I am certain everyone could relate to her feelings. Most of the time she hides her feelings from her mother but the mother always understands how her daughter is actually feeling.

Final Remarks

Bakhtawar is an interesting drama with a unique storyline. The fast pace with which the story is moving forward adds to its entertainment value. Yumna Zaidi and Huma Nawab are the stars of the show. The actor playing Sheedaโ€™s character is also performing his part really well. The preview of the next episode was intriguing. I hope nothing happens to Bakhtawarโ€™s mother. I am waiting to watch how the story is taken forward in the upcoming episodes.

Bakhtawar Episode 3 Story Review โ€“ Fast Paced

This third episode of Bakhtawar was fast-paced just like the previous two. It covered a few days in Bakhtuโ€™s life and ended with an incident that might just prove to be a complete game changer for the protagonist. Zaviyar Naumanโ€™s character was also introduced in this episode but it is evident by now that Yumna Zaidi/Bakhtawar is the star of this show. Everything and everyone else is simply going to be an extension or addition to the main track so far that seems to be the case. The name Bakhtawar and the characterโ€™s journey so far have great contradictions; I am sure this is not coincidental. The girl whose name implies that she would have great luck supporting her throughout her life is swimming against the tide ever since the drama started. She continues to be determined but she has her weak moments as well. Bakhtawarโ€™s dialogues in this particular episode truly stood out.

Bakhtawarโ€™s story is difficult to โ€œbelieveโ€ even for someone who knows it is inspired by true events. Since this story is novel and does not only show how difficult it is for women to live and breathe freely but also highlights that even as a man life is not a bed of roses. This novelty coupled with impressive performances makes Bakhtawar a must-watch even though at times the execution of some of the scenes and developments is not as convincing as you would want it to be.

Change of Identity

The opening scene of this 3rd episode was the perfect beginning to an episode that was both entertaining and meaningful, overall. Bakhtawarโ€™s response to her mother when she started crying went to show the mindset with which Bakhtawar was raised. The dialogue Ansoo tu betiyun walun ke muqaddar mein likhe hote hein, tm bete ki maa ho tumhein kabhi rona nahin pare ga said a great deal not just about this character but unfortunately it is also a statement that holds true for a majority of the people in reality as well. I found it rather surprising that Bakhtawar was more than willing and ready to go outside and face the world immediately after this transition. What we saw in the previous episode suggested that Bakhtawarโ€™s decision to live her life with this new identity was impulsive. Therefore even though her frame of mind was shown subtly through suppressed tears, the sudden confidence did not work for me. This was one aspect of the story that shouldnโ€™t have been covered in haste. Since Bakhtawar did not plan all this beforehand or at least the viewers were not shown that she did, her new wardrobe was also a mystery. Having said that, Bakhtawarโ€™s story resonated on so many levels as the episode progressed and the troubles she faced with her new identity were shown realistically.

Bakhtawar Episode 3 Story Review โ€“ Fast Paced

At first, the transition brought with it the kind of confidence that Bakhtawar couldnโ€™t display while she was living her life as a female. However, as the story progressed, the downside of this transition was also shown. She was offered jobs that were meant for men and she had a really difficult time fitting in with the male crowd. This was such a remarkable way of showing the kind of peer pressure men face and how they are forced to do certain things because of their gender. Men are expected to toughen up and be rebellious otherwise they donโ€™t fit in the crowd, especially at such a young age. One of the unconvincing elements of this episode was Bakhtawarโ€™s new โ€˜friendโ€™ taking her to a place that was meant for the rich. However, this turned out to be a turning point for Bakhtawar who had more realistic expectations now after being rejected by multiple employers. She was clearly disappointed but knew that she had to start working in order to earn a living.

Bakhtawarโ€™s mamuโ€™s search for her and the close call added a thrilling aspect to the story. There is a constant threat that he might find them and all of this could end which makes this story exciting. Bakhtawarโ€™s scenes with her mother were acted out so well that I found myself looking forward to them. Huma Nawab is exceptional as the soft and terrified mother who has enough faith in her daughter to let her make all these choices. Yumna Zaidi carried herself so well throughout this episode and she did especially well in scenes when Bakhtu had to face situations that were brand new and made her uncomfortable.

Zaviyar Naumanโ€™s character was introduced at the end of this episode as an affluent young man who lived most of his life abroad but came back to live in Pakistan. The viewers got to know a little bit about his character through Iqbal bhai. The dramatic events that followed went to show that this particular track will also be moving forward at a fast pace.

Final Remarks

This latest episode of Bakhtawar was not โ€˜perfectโ€™ but it was meaningful, entertaining, and fast-paced. We have watched many dramas which highlight the problems faced by women in a manโ€™s world but this story gives a completely different spin to that particular storyline. Bakhtawar has my undivided attention. I am looking forward to watching how the story will be taken forward in the upcoming episodes. We have a protagonist with tons of potential therefore even though some of the dynamics might not be executed in a perfect manner; her story holds your interest.

Bakhtawar Episode 1 & 2 Story Review

Written by: Nadia Akhtar
Directed by: Shahid Shafaat
Produced by: Momina Duraid
Schedule: Every Sunday 8 pm on Hum

Bakhtawar is one of those dramas which aired without prior marketing or excessive promotions. After watching these two episodes, I can safely state that sometimes dramas that are not hyped-up tend to pleasantly surprise the viewers. Bakhtawarโ€™s first two episodes were just what the doctor ordered, I had been waiting for such a drama to air on Hum in particular because every season, the channel airs at least one such drama that is unconventional and stands out for that reason. These two episodes of Bakhtawar were fast-paced, meaningful, entertaining, and exceptionally well written. The casting couldnโ€™t have been better; Yumna definitely stole the show. Bakhtawar is a beautifully etched-out character who has a really interesting story to tell. It is always refreshing watching a drama with a female protagonist who breaks stereotypes. Such a drama is an actual success when the viewers do not feel like they are being lectured while watching the show.

Nadia Akhtar let her characters tell their stories instead of relying on preachy dialogues. The writer took inspiration from at least two well-known real-life stories while penning down these two episodes which I felt was quite intelligent since the premise of the story is such that it could invite a certain kind of criticism. Most of the time viewers find such stories unbelievable because they cannot relate to them but when you have seen interviews of a real-life woman who spent half of her life on the streets of Lahore disguised as a man, you cannot call the writer out for penning down fiction which might be too far from reality for many!

Thrilling, Adventurous, Emotional Journey

The opening episodes of Bakhtawar did so much more than simply introducing the viewers to the characters. They took the viewers on an unexpected heartwarming adventure led by Bakhtawar herself. Bakhtawarโ€™s journey started with losing her beloved sister to a bad decision made by her father and losing her only brother because of the lack of finances. The exploitation at the hands of people who were supposed to protect her started from the first episode and continued till the end. Right from the beginning, the writer established the fact that even though all the odds were against her, Bakhtawar wanted to make a difference by educating herself and standing on her own two feet. That one scene with her sister in which she tells her not to settle for the same fate as hers was the highlight of the first episode. It made an already determined Bakhtawar even more so. Yumna Zaidi played the role of a strong girl who wanted to educate herself and change her destiny even in Ishq-e-Laa but that particular character was not as well written as this one. Bakhtawar only spoke out for herself or her mother when there was a need to do so. Sometimes our writers tend to confuse strength with batameezi, I am glad that was not the case here! Her strength was shown through her swift decisions and actions and not the fights she picked with those who wronged her. Apart from Yumna Zaidiโ€™s performance, her makeover couldnโ€™t have been better. She looked younger than ever before which I believe was an important requirement for the role. Her expressions definitely add to that impression as she brings out a certain innocence of her character even though Bakhtawarโ€™s strength is her main personality trait.

Another aspect of the story which stood out for me was Bakhtawarโ€™s motherโ€™s support for her. This mother-daughter duo is a team that I feel is rare and makes all the difference. Most often the mothers in such situations do not โ€œteam upโ€ with their daughters the way Bakhtawarโ€™s mother has. She trusted her daughter more than once and willingly went along with some of her lies as well when it suited the situation. Bakhtawar did not choose to run away on her own but this was something she was doing for both of them. This makes her journey more meaningful and compelling. It also adds that heartwarming bit to the story which would have been missing had Bakhtawar left her house on her own. Huma Nawab fits the role perfectly especially because she did not even once overdo any of the emotional scenes. Her performance has been subtle yet it leaves an impression on the viewer.

Bakhtawar Episode 1 & 2 Story Review

Another aspect of the story which impressed me was that even though Bakhtawar has come across so many people who tried to exploit her, she has never been portrayed as a victim. I found myself rooting for her more than anything else. And then there was Ahadโ€™s character which broke the monotony and showed that the writer penned this script down with an open mind. The message sent through this character was that all men are not the same. He helped Bakhtawar even after she rejected his proposal. This character reminded me of Kaamilโ€™s character in Sinf-e-Aahan. We definitely need to see more such male characters in dramas. Ahadโ€™s role in these first two episodes was to the point but pivotal nevertheless.

Most of Bakhtawarโ€™s journey focused on how difficult it was for a girl to get her basic needs met in a society that was constantly putting pressure and limitations on her. This was definitely something that hit home because most women have faced similar situations more than once. By the end of the second episode, Bakhtawar had decided that she could not make her dreams come true without hiding her actual gender and identity. This was indeed sad, especially considering the fact that Bakhtawar was so determined to prove herself as a beti and not a beta!

Final Remarks

Bakhtawar definitely has a great deal going for it, it can be this seasonโ€™s Parizaad if it continues moving forward with the same pace and the content continues to be as good as it was in these two episodes. Shahid Shafaat is a gifted director who excels at translating meaningful scripts on screen. However, there were times when I felt that certain aesthetics seemed out of place. The bed in Bakhtawar and her motherโ€™s room when they were staying in her friendโ€™s house and the curtains in their new rented room looked too stylish and modern for the setup that was being shown. Other than that, the makeovers of the actors were visually pleasing as well as realistic. Also, these two episodes were overall the most well-put-together fast-paced ones we have seen in a long time. I felt the first episode was slightly rushed at first but the second episode had so much to offer as well which means the writer is keen to tell the story and has enough content to keep the viewers hooked. The premise of the story is brand new, the performances have been on point and these two episodes were visually pleasing as well. The script also has a definite purpose and meaning, which is something I personally prefer.
