Adnan Sami Khan to resume acting

Famous singer and composer Adnan Sami Khan is resuming acting after a gap of  nearly two decades by appearing in an upcoming Bollywood film.

As per English Daily The News,

Ten years after he made his debut as an actor with Syed Noor’s Sargam, Adnan Sami Khan is set to return to the screen. The musician took to social media to make the announcement on Friday, posting on his official Facebook page, “People are asking me about the role in my debut film… so here it goes… I am about to play a conman, who is inefficient and not a bright person, a clumsy character. It’s an intelligent script. In the next few months, the film will go on floors.”

Adnan, who is no stranger to Bollywood where his music remains vastly popular, says he is very excited to make his second foray into acting. His first stint was quite a successful one, with the real life couple of Adnan and Zeba Bakhtiar creating magic on screen.

While no further details about the Bollywood project have been divulged, we’re at least glad to know that he won’t be playing the role of love-struck college Romeo – a crime that middle-aged actors in the film industry continue to commit!

Goya – Episode 15 Review

Ghurbat jo hai wohh insaan se uski confidence cheen leti hai… With each passing episode, we are inching a little closer to Rahat’s past- Zeb let on some gruesome details about how Sr. Hashmi’s family ko zinda jala diya tha and something awful happening to his sisters that was far too cruel to narrate in words. I think Zeb must’ve mentioned her mother countless times since she arrived but no one seems to bother to ask the obvious- how does Zeb’s mother know such intimate details of Rahat Hashmi’s past? This episode seemed very random in contrast to the previous ones. There is still an air of mystery lingering on but I’m afraid if this keeps up for much longer, it won’t have the same impact on the viewers as it did in the initial episodes. I can’t imagine how frustrating it may be for the drama writers to comply with the requirements of stretching a story for a number of episodes because the channel demands it- ARY is doing that again with Goya. Will they never learn???

image

This episode just didn’t resonate like any of its predecessors. After last week, I was happy with how real the characters seemed. But this week, the characters seemed to be just as clueless as the audience. I was disappointed that Omar didn’t seem to react hearing about his father’s past- maut se bilkul nahin dartey aur zindagi se unko koi gharz nahin hai… Is this the same Omar who reacts to any and everyone around him; who genuinely cares for people? How did he suddenly develop such a cold exterior? Granted, he is feeling suffocated by his father and losing patience with the games Sr. Hashmi seems to enjoy playing, still, I would’ve liked to see some streak of empathy for a fellow human being.

image

Oh, another thing I don’t get- Why are we still discussing Adnan? I really liked his character and I really liked the way his exit was unexpected but taking us back to flashbacks about him and focusing on Zara’s addiction is steering the story completely away from the main protagonists. Mohini’s role is reduced to one of a supporting actor. Whatever happened to the strong, independent go-getter? Why are we seeing a woman who’s given up on life and willing to spend her days reminiscing the good times instead of taking control of her life? Omar has all the answers- he knows his father is responsible for this situation. Until last week, Zara was certain Mohini couldn’t possibly run away and this week Zara is expressing her doubts over Mohini’s intentions.

image

Once again, Rahat’s interactions with Zeb are beyond me. Here’s a man who’s obsessed with controlling people and he somehow can’t even seem to get a straight answer out of Zeb- his house-help! Miss-Know-It-All parades all over his study and drops hint after hint of his past and such and he just freezes and remains in a stupor until their next interaction. Seems like Haniya is finally feeling empowered- does her baby have something to do with it or is the influence of the bold and outspoken house-help? Rahat seems to be struggling with the women in his life! And here I thought Karachi mein hawa bhi inki marzi se chalti hai…

image

Nomi’s mysterious disappearance reaffirms that he’s probably given in to his dark side and was somehow a part of Sr. Hashmi’s plan- #BringBackMyOmar. I hope he’s not going to start another killing spree #MohiniMustDie. I don’t know if there are any more twists remaining but for now, I really wish we could get back to seeing Omar and Mohini and how they take charge of their lives under such circumstances.

P.S. I don’t know about Omar and Mohini but Asma may just find her happy ending…

Celebrity Reactions To Pakistani Cricket Team’s Performance

0

Pakistanis are crazy about cricket and Pakistani celebrities are no different. Many celebrities got together and watched the matches that have been played so far together. Different reactions came from different celebrities. Some think that Pakistani team has no chance now and there are others like Mathira who was very enthusiastic about watching the matched but did not react very strongly when the team lost. Mathira appreciated the performance of the players who did well even when Pakistan lost at the hands of India. Mathira, Amanat Ali and Ali Azmat along with many others watched the match together.

Here is how the Pakistani celebrities supported their team and how they reacted to the team’s performance:

2 upcoming drama titles that scream Bollywood!

0

While there are dramas whose title gets you guessing, their are some whose title will make you run away from them till your legs hurt. You’ll want to plug your fingers into your ears and close your eyes shut, so that you don’t get a glimpse of them as the promos run. Two new dramas of this season, have names that have made viewers cringe.

1. Sartaj Mera Tou Raj Mera_ Hum TV:

As if the name wasn’t enough, the promos have weird dialogues that can spoil my mood no matter how happy I am. Shagufta Ejaz’s character says,

Bahu ko sada suhagan rehne ki dua dena saas ke liye zaruri hota hai, kyun ke woh janti hai ke bahu ka suhag qayem rehne mein hi uss ke bete ki bhalai hai

There is a conversation between the two daughter-in-laws of this character. Take a look at their conversation.

Bahu A: Woh (saas) samajhti hain mein yahan raaj karne ayi hun.

Bahu B: Aur raaj tum karogi. Yeh dunya ka asool hai, jiska sartaj uska raaj.

It gets worse. There is an OST, which goes, “Sartaj mera tou raaj mera.” If any limit hasn’t been crossed yet, let me know!

I get it, we live in a country where these things are important in a woman’s life, but seriously drama makers need to break the norms. We have gone through this topic a zillion times and it’s about time the producers have some mercy on us.

And oh, there is a Bahu C as well!

Islamabad-s-Faisal-Mosque-pakistan-31922767-500-347

The show starts on Monday, at 7:30 pm, replacing Susral Mera.

2. Susral Meri Behen Ka_ Geo TV:

Islamabad-pakistan-31922766-422-500

I have never been an Indian show watcher but a lot them air on Pakistani channels so I am bound to catch a few glimpses of Saath Nibhana Sathiya (hideous really!) or Aahat (horror show or a comedy?)Plus there’s this big Sasural Simar Ka fan among my acquaintances and so I am kept informed about the latest developments in the show which, if I remember correctly, include a sau saala naag (100 year old snake) that transformed into a human (not kidding!).  The point is, that a person who has grown up watching mature PTV dramas will never want to experience the pain of watching these overacted, stretched and poorly executed shows.

But our drama makers don’t seem to realize this. Bhui, jin ko Indian dramas dekhne hain, unko wohi dekhne do! What’s the use of transforming your own dramas into bolly-themed ones? Indians are appreciating our dramas and these people are hell bent on copying them.

Coming to Susral Meri Behn Ka, the promo has been done exactly the same way as Indian dramas. Don’t believe me? Have a look.

Obviously the story will be worse, and since it is a Geo TV drama you can expect the worse. It starts on Wednesday, replacing Choti Choti Khushiyan.

Sports and Showbiz

0

Cricket is the most popular sports in our country and perhaps the most discussed topic these days is the performance of our cricket team. While the on the field news are not much favorable, lets remember few light off the fields stories of sports persons.

Sports and showbiz are two separate fields. Though sports is not directly linked to showbiz, still from time to time many sports personalities are linked to showbiz personalities. Such sports persons are the subject of this article. There are many such instances though not all were true, and here only those instances are mentioned which have some basis. Few of such associations resulted in the permanent association means marriage.

Since the private and personal life of any person must be respected, so all such instances mentioned here are indeed a personal matter of relative sports persons/ showbiz persons and should not be meant to infer anything towards their personality. Being a human nobody is perfect, and all persons mentioned here are human too.

Though sports is our country is not limited to cricket, but mostly it was the cricketers who were noticed with showbiz personalities and that too mostly with showbiz names of our neighbouring country India.

Nazar Muhammad
Nazar Muhammad was the first Pakistani cricketer to face a ball in Test cricket when he opened the first ever test match of Pakistan in 1951-52 versus India. He is also the first Pakistani to carry the bat in a test match during the same series against India in 1951-52. Pakistan’s cricket team’s first cricket tour was against India in India in 1952, the series comprises of five test matches. Nazar Muhammad participated in all five matches, and in the second match in Lucknow he carried the bat , Pakistan also won that match thus recording its first victory in test cricket in only its second test match. Pakistan lost the series 2-1 against India, and the same series also proved the first and last test series of Nazar Muhammad. Soon after the series a domestic accident damaged his arm and thus ended his career.

Nazar Muhammad was also a relative of musician Feroze Nizami. Though then local film industry was in infancy, still Feroze Nizami was a big name in film music of 1950’s as he composed the ever green music of super hit Urdu and Punjabi films like Chann Vey(1951) and later Dupatta (1953). Both films featured legendary artist Madam Noor Jehan in lead roles and Dupatta was also a hit in neighboring India. Through Feroze Nizami, Nazar Muhammad also get acquainted with Madam Noor Jehan which led to some steamy rumors in the press which they neither confirmed nor denied. Then Madam Noor Jehan was married to film producer/director Syed Shaukat Hussain Rizvi, but by mid 1950’s their marriage ended in divorce.Decades later in late 1970’s Mr. Syed Shaukat Hussain Rizvi in his one book wrote about Nazar Muhammad and Madam Noor Jehan.

None of these is now alive, but it was first such instance in our county where a showbiz and sports personality were in the news.

Waqqar Hassan

Waqqar Hassan is a famous cricketer of 1950’s. He played 21 tests from 1952 – 1953, his brother Parvez Sajjad was also a cricketer. Imran Khan

Imran Khan is perhaps the most sought after cricketer in the history of Pakistan. Since his debut in 1971 against England, Imran Khan was quite popular and earned the reputation of a ‘lady killer’. In 1970’s and 1980’s Pakistani and foreign (mostly British) press frequently reported various off the fields incidents of Imran Khan, which he never bothered to reply. The most famous of such incidents was in 1979 when Pakistani cricket team under the captaincy of Asif Iqbal toured India after a gap of more than 10 years.

Pakistan and neighbouring India fought two back to back wars in 1965 and 1971 which resulted in bitter relations and thus halted all the cricket activities. In 1977, military dictator General Ziaul Haq imposed martial law and later declared himself the president of Pakistan. Under Zia regime, Pakistan enjoyed all time favourable relations with India. Under Zia’s presidency bilateral ties returned to normal and thus Pakistan and India cricket teams regularly toured the other country from 1978 – 1989. General Ziaul Haq passed away in a plane crash in 1988. In 1989 Indian cricket team toured Pakistan which proved the last tour for more than a decade until Pakistani team visited India in 1999.

Coming back to 1979, during the tour, Indian press reported about Imran Khan and than famous Indian film artist Zeenat Amaan. The tour of 1979 resulted in a defeat for Pakistan by a margin of 2-0, but the tour is still remembered for this off the field rumor.

Sarfraz Nawaz

Sarfraz Nawaz is a famous cricketer known for introducing the art of reverse swing in 1970’s. Sarfraz Nawaz has close friendship with Imran Khan though later he became a strong critic of Imran Khan. Sarfraz Nawaz is also famous for many off the field incidents, however he surprised many by marrying filmstar Raani in 1980’s. Raani is considered one of the most polished artist of Pakistani film history. In 1970’s when dancing skill was not considered a must for Urdu film heroines, Raani mesmerized the audience with her strong dance and acting performances in films like Anjuman, Umrao Jaan Adda, Surraya Bhopali.

It was the third marriage of both Raani and Sarfraz Nawaz after two failed marriages. The marriage got much publicity in press, however it lasted only for few years (6-7 years). Both Sarfraz and Raani met in London, where Raani was under treatment for cancer diagnosed earlier and later got married. Raani passed away due to cancer in early 1990’s before which both were already separated.

Mohsin Khan

Mohsin Khan is a famous crickter of 1980’s known as ‘Lord of Lords’ when he scored a double century on the historical ground of Lord’s in 1980’s. Apart from splendid batting performance, Mohsin was also known for his charming personality. During a tour of India in mid 1980’s Mohsin surprised many by marrying Indian film star Reena Roy. After the marriage Mohsin settled in Bombay (now Mumbai) and retired from the cricket. In India, he started his bollywood career too. The couple had a daughter, but ultimately the marriage was not successful and ended in early 1990’s. Mohsin came back to Pakistan with his daughter Jannat and married a Pakistani lady.

In early 1990’s Mohsin started his filmi career in Pakistan and starred in few successful films (opposite Reema) like Haathi Meray Saathi, Beta. In late 1990’s Mohsin returned to cricket and opted to coach Pakistani Under 19. He also served as a coach for national cricket team few years ago.

Waseem Akram

Waseem Akram perhaps the best left arm bowler the game has seen started his career in 1987 from the tour of New Zealand. Waseem Akram married Huma Mufti in 1994 and the couple had two sons Taimur and Akbar. Huma Mufti passed away in 2005 due to some fatal ailment.

Though Waseem Akram is accused many times for match fixing in his career, seldom he is named with a showbiz personality. In mid 2000’s Waseem Akram accepted the offer to judge a television dance reality show in India together with former Miss Universe and Indian artist Sushmita Sen. There were rumors for their marriage which both denied and clarified that they are only friends. Few years ago Waseem Akram was also in the news which claimed he is marrying Humaima Malick. Again both Waseem and Humaima denied such claim, but admitted they are only good friends.

Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi known as Boom Boom is indeed a star performer of our cricketing history. As a cricketer Shahid Afridi enjoyed overwhelming stardom and popularity similar to or perhaps even more than what Imran Khan experienced in the past. Like Imran Khan, Shahid Afridi also featured in various off the field incidents. Like any regular Pakistani, Shahid Afridi also religiously follows Bollywood films and artists which eventually led to his name associated with a Bollywood star.

In 1999, Pakistani team toured India which was the first bilateral series after a gap of ten years. Waseem Akram captained Pakistan cricket team while Javed Miandad was the coach. Pakistani players were clearly instructed to stay away from Indian media and bookies. However a cup of tea involving Shahid Afridi became a breaking news in press. The cup of tea also resulted in a fine for Shahid Afridi. As per press reports Shahid Afridi, being fan of an Indian artist Sonali Bandre invited her for a cup of tea in the hotel lobby. There is always a zaalim samaj which intervenes on such occasions. The team management (including coach Javed Miandad) played the role of zaalim samaaj and spotted the “tea party”. Whatever happened next resulted in a fine of few hundred dollars on Shahid Afridi. Such an expensive cup of tea it was.

Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik, started his cricketing career in late 1990’s and is known for his all round abilities with both bat and ball. Shoaib was named many times with Indian ladies from various fields. Shoaib’s first marriage was with Ayesha Siddiqi from Hyderabad India. Shoaib himself told Pakistani media about his Nikah with Aayesha Siddiqi, but later he himself that refused any such Nikah ever happened. However before his second marriage with Indian Tennis player Saania Mirza (also from Hyderabad, India), he divorced Ayesha Siddiqi after repeatedly denying that he was ever married to Ayesha Siddiqi.

Both his wives are Indian and not from showbiz, then why his name is included here?? Well in between his first and second marriage, Indian press widely reported about Shoaib Malik and an Indian artist Sayali Bhagat. Both worked together in a film, which was based on cricket and featured Shoaib Malik in few scenes along with other Pakistani cricketers. It was during the shooting of this film, that Indian media reported that Sayali is dating Shoaib Malik, which she strongly denied.

In one such show he danced with Indian artist Dia Mirza, which led to widespread rumours that both are getting married. Both denied this and currently both are happily married and settled with their better half.

Muhammad Aasif

Muhammad Aasif known for his swing bowling starting his career in early 2000. Muhammad Aasif was banned to participate in any from of cricket due to his involvement in spot fixing in 2010. Beyond spot fixing he was also in the news due to his association with artist Veena Malik. However the friendship ended in bitterness and both Veena and Aasif accused each other on various accounts. Both Aasif and Veena are now happily married and settled in their lives.

Marrium’s sister Maira Raheem is a also a tennis player. As tennis is not much popular, so its associated players seldom makes headlines in our country. Marrium is happily married to Adil Murad who is the son of famous film artist Waheed Murad. Adil Murad has acted in few dramas and films. Marrium’s sister Maira Raheem is married to cricketer Salman Butt.

Digest Writer – Episode 21!

Ohkay so, I am glad that they made all these developments worth our wait. It was so good to see Fareeda in control of her own life & I think the way she is behaving now & whatever she’ll do in the future is completely justified given what she has endured all these years while being married to Shaukat.

I really like writer’s approach to Fareeda’s journey & her life. Obviously, it would’ve been a miracle if Fareeda’s mother in law had changed but I liked the fact that they didn’t show anything of that sort. She is still as conniving as she was before but it’s just that it was money which could tame her & confine her in limits, therefore now when Fareeda has plenty of it, she is running things in her home & her MIL has allowed that to happen because as far as her needs are being taken care of, she doesn’t mind what Fareeda does.

Finally, Farhaan has become a doctor too & it was good to see Zarina & Anwar having a good time discussing how hard their children have worked & how it has started to pay off. Once again, I’d say that I loved Zarina’s make-over. She seems content & happy, plus for a change it was so good to see her not demanding things from Fareeda. The discussions of all these siblings have been a best part of any episode & I am glad that a couple of conversations were added this time around as well. I liked the fact that Farhaan is still compassionate towards Fareeda like he used to be as he knows how hard his sister has worked to bring him to this position & he acknowledges all her efforts which I believe was very really sweet of him.

I really believe the interview could’ve been better. Yes, those are the questions any gharelu sort of a morning show host would ask any of her guests but I feel that whole interview should’ve been written a bit more attentively. As much as I didn’t enjoy the interview, I liked the conversations after it, the way Shakeela & Farhaan made fun of Shaukat & what Shakeela said: ‘aurat ka barham uske jhoot mai hi hota hai’. Indeed, Fareeda has come a long way but no matter how popular she might get or how much money she might earn, she still has to deal with a lot of ordeals on daily basis which shows that her life is far from being perfect. I liked the reminiscence scene of Fareeda where she took a look back at her journey, from where she started, to what she faced, how she was told to leave what she loved & how she was ordered to do that again just so that she could take care of her family. I think that these timely reminders of Fareeda’s life & her conversations with herself actually made us connect to her on a completely different level, that’s why I believe all of us only want to see her happy now, even if that happiness comes to her in the form of Shehryaar.

So, Shaukat is still the same but then, didn’t he say he wanted Fareeda to become all well-groomed, well-dressed & glamorous, so now when she is all that he ever wanted, why is he still insincere to her? Shaukat only used all that as an alibi for his wrongdoings & what’s sad is, he still hasn’t changed, but then why would he? He knows he has his mother’s back & she is the one who allows him to do whatever he wants to but tells him to pretend because losing Fareeda means losing all the luxuries like sugar-free biscuits, pizzas, servants & all the perks that they’re enjoying because of her. It’s ridiculous how they have exploited her & have taken her for granted but for her sake, I wish she puts a kibosh on all of this & walks on a path that leads her towards happiness. I couldn’t stop cringing every single time Shaukat tried to put Fareeda down, he certainly is not in a position to say all of that but sadly, he’s a typical male blessed with a narrow-minded mentality where he still thinks he is something only because he’s a man ignoring the fact that he has achieved nothing in his life to be treated with respect. I loved the way Fareeda reminded him of her status because she has worked hard to earn it & she can slap a reality check on Shaukat’s face anytime she wants.

I loved the new look of Fareeda. She looked modern, classy & chic. I think the makeup, hair styling & dress designing team once again has done an amazing job when it comes to all the characters. They really looked different to how they used to be & yes, I felt relieved seeing Surraiya as a grown up kid because I dreaded seeing her as an infant even after the time lapse too. ;) Share your say about this episode of Digest Writer please. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Jackson Heights – Episode 23!

Ohkay so, before saying anything about this episode, let me just say that the preview of next episode suggested it might be the end of this drama & for my sake, I really hope it is. Coming onto this episode, well I found it interesting & fast paced. I really think that if it ends this week, they will be able to put an end to this drama on a strong note because we’re done with their half-baked stories & tracks & want to see them all reaching the finale in some happening sort of a way!

Well, Jackson Heights dekh rahain hon aur buray surprises na milain, aisay to halaat nahi! This episode started at a good note where Salma slapped some reality on Sikandar’s face but it got ruined because all of a sudden, Imaan, who was completely indifferent to her father all this while has become a daddy’s little girl & for his sake she is ready to exchange jeenay marnay ki kasmain with Salma just to bind her!?! I really believe her reaction to the whole Mommy-Bhatti relation was overdone because Imaan now says she hates him whereas she was the one who had memorized his date of birth & gave a card to him too. Imaan has always been a calm & composed person who always stood by her mother no matter what her own father & grandmother said, but now suddenly she thinks her family is going to become picture perfect & Salma is ruining that photo? Was Imaan gone on a sleeping trip like Sleeping Beauty or she was living in a hostel that she didn’t know what has transpired in that house lately? Chalo, if she would’ve been a 7 y/o (I don’t know how many times I’ve said it) her reaction would’ve looked justified that she didn’t know the details about what her daddy’s been up to, but I really can’t imagine that Imaan being a 15 y/o (?) is actually oblivious to what Sikandar has done all this while like gambling, stealing, getting beaten up by the goons & oh his latest adventure of trying to kill someone! I really liked Imaan’s character because she always sounded reasonable & she seemed mentally mature but then how can Vasay Chaudhry allow us to enjoy a female character that’s brainy & intelligent? Obviously, he couldn’t keep his hands off & had to ruin Imaan’s character too by making her look utterly dumb & immature & I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive Vasay for this!!!

Oh boy that whole tu Indian, mai Pakistani, tu Hindu, mai Musalmaan conversation was so forced & seemed completely out of the line making it look like they ran out of dialogues so us time pe jo muh mai aya bol diya. It’s like the writer himself forgot that Rizwan was supposedly an Indian given how his perfect Urdu’s been putting all the Pakistani characters to shame, so he decided to refresh that fact for us. Jamshed is cunning so I really think he that could’ve come up with a better argument than just to taunt mindlessly like a 3 y/o about how Indians are jealous of Pakistanis (like seriously?) & oh Rizwan’s comment about not being a Hindu was equally petty as well. I mean like seriously, he couldn’t think of an appropriate comeback too? C’mon Rizwan I thought you could do better but I must say what’s funny is that this whole fiasco is being nurtured for the sake of a Christian; Michelle (not generalizing, just giving a comical angle to it). LOL! I am sure ye khichri kisi beemar ko bhi be-swadi lagaygi, haha!!!

Whoop! There was so much rona dhona in this episode that I just couldn’t help looking away. This is not exactly what you want to see first thing in a morning. This drama has been pretty serious but to actually induce more gloominess into it wasn’t an intelligent choice. Yes, Imran’s mother is not well but if he is so worried, he should just book his flight without putting a lot of effort into making Jamshed look like a villain because when it comes to Naani, both of them are equally at fault. Amidst his depression, Bhatti couldn’t stop putting blame on Jamshed but mamoon jaan, bhanjay ki duty ho gai 15 saal tak, abb appki baari hai!!! & oh, look at the way Nadir pops up out of nowhere after a million episodes so I think to reciprocate his generosity, we can go around ignoring him easily as well!

I think Michelle must’ve done something good in her life that she’s automatically getting rescued by this trap that Jamshed has set for her but then she doesn’t deserve it given how stupid she has been acting lately but I am glad that Rizwan’s slip of tongue was enough to get Maria all excited & now she has asked them to postpone the wedding which is exactly what Jamshed can’t afford. I just hope he gets exposed ASAP & this ridiculous track is wrapped up soon but I must ask, isn’t it amazing that Maria & Michelle complement each other so well as sisters because they both fall short on brains?

Does Sikandar really think that after what he has put Salma through, he can win her back by doing a few dishes? The way Salma responded to Sikandar was enough to show that she’s had enough of him but then I’ll ask again, what’s holding Salma back? I don’t think she should allow Imaan’s selfishness prevent the happiness & peace that’s coming her way because this family’s not worth it. Going by the preview, seems like Salma’s departure won’t be easy as she’ll be emo-blackmailed by her MIL too. I just don’t get how suddenly these guys switch their attitudes? Trust me they flip faster than a coin. First Cathy, then Imaan & now it’s going to be Tai Jee who will all of a sudden realize how precious her kamau-poot bahu is. Anyways, share your thoughts about this episode please!

Sadqay Tumhare – Episode 20

Why oh why did Bay Ji let Shano go with Amin….I was so happy to see Bay Ji giving Amin and Rasheeda a piece of her mind left, right and centre but when she put her faith in Amin and Shano got into that car I thought that was the end! Amin’s confession however came as a wonderful surprise, he did not lie to Bay Ji and Abdur Rehman after all and perhaps that is the reason why they trusted him. But As Shano and Khalil rightly pointed out that no matter how good and pure Amin’s intentions are the fact is that he will never be able to take a stand in front of Rasheeda. Like every other episode of Sadqay Tumhare this one too was filled with power packed performances and some very interesting conversations.

“Jeeta reh puttar mujhe bari khushi hui hai ke tujhe kisi ko mu dikhane ki fikar hai, Allah tujhe khush rakhe aur tujhe kisi ko muu dikhane ke joga kare”! I wish I could quote all of Bay Ji’s dialogues here today, each one of them was a gem. Bay Ji said exactly what the viewers wanted to hear and that is exactly what Amin and Rasheeda deserved. When Amin and Rasheeda visited Bay Ji her message to Amin and Rasheeda was loud and clear, they were more than welcome to eat in her house and they could stay the night too if that is what they wanted but letting them take Shano with them was out of question. I definitely liked her stance in the beginning much more than her decision later on. Soon after Bay Ji made the decision it didn’t take one of the relatives and Khalil long to convince her that she had made a big mistake. Bay Ji’s character is turning out to be one of those very strong supporting characters in this play who have an interesting personality and she has a very important role to play in the story as well. Amin probably thought that telling the “truth” about Abdur Rehman’s intentions in front of Bay Ji would change everything but Abdur Rehman’s confidence and qasam and Rasheeda’s reaction changed everything. Rasheeda played the I-will-kill-myself card yet again and I am not surprised that Amin fell for it and all the other emotional blackmail too. Amin knows that he needs to believe his wife’s lies because believing Abdur Rehman’s qasam would mean putting an end to his relationship with Rasheeda.

Untitled

The way Rasheeda keeps on telling everyone how dirty their minds are is really ironic! If anyone knows anything about “projection” they would agree with me that that Projection is Rasheeda’s ultimate defense mechanism. She knows how wrong her thinking is but she is not willing to admit it to herself even that these thoughts are hers. On the other hand she keeps on holding everyone else accountable for their actions as well as thoughts. Rasheeda’s plan was perfect, that way she could ensure that Shano never gets married to Khalil and she gets to see Abdur Rehman every week! Amin is not allowed to doubt her intentions because if he does that he would be committing a big sin!

FotorCreated

The scene in which Khalil gets on the bus was directed really well. Adnan Malik’s body language and the way that scene was captured was perfect. Khalil’s outburst was spot on and once again the dialogues were mind blowing. Shano never wanted to go back with her father but she also knew that there was no point in protesting because her father had managed to convince both Bay Ji and Abdur Rehman. “Dil tu kurta hai tere mun pe chupair maron Rasheeda pur tera mu tu meri chapair ke qabil bhi nahi nahi” . “Sadqay teri buddua ke Rasheeda mein samne bethi teri maa aur tere hatho chot kha ke bhi bethi hun, tujhe meri buddua ka dur nahi laga”? These were two of the MANY dialogues in tonight’s episode which were music to my ears!

This episode had many scenes which were perfectly shot and the acting by all the actors was beyond commendable. Mahira Khan has portrayed Shano’s character brilliantly; I am sure all the viewers didn’t have a difficult time understanding what Shano went through in tonight’s episode. She knew that her worst fears will come true but when they did come true she knew that she had to face what was coming ahead. Sammiya Mumtaz, Rehan Sheikh and Farhan Ali Agha were flawless like always and the actress playing Bay Ji deserves a special mention for nailing her character. The director Ehtesham Uddin has paid special attention to the tiniest details which makes this drama a treat to watch. Khalil-ur-Rehman’s story and dialogues are always intense but tonight’s episode was filled with dialogues which deserve to be quoted again and again!

The preview of the next episode promises a lot more action …. how will Amin respond to Rasheeda’s demand of two baraats? I am waiting to find out! Usually when most dramas reach the 20 episodes mark you just want them to end but that is definitely not the case with Sadqay Tumhare.

Dusri Biwi- Episode 12

0

Whoaa, after I was done watching this episode, I spent some time sulking over the fact that my exams marked their entry right when the most happening episode of Dusri Biwi went on-air! For so longgg I was craving this climax because I was curious to know how’d Aisha react to the worst news of the century. I had initially intended to review episodes 12 & 13 together, but no no, this episode must be discussed separately!

I don’t know if I should be saying this but I have this newfound respect for Amir :P- okay, he is a psychotic guy who can stoop low for revenge but breaking the news about Hassan and Farah’s marriage is perhaps the most qaabil-fakhr thing he’s ever done because needless to say, we all were desperate to see Hassan’s true face being exposed to Aisha and since it’s Amir who finally did the honours, I am thankful to him for giving us the kalaijay-pay-thandak-parnay-wali feeling! I think this was the right time for disclosure because had they not shown it to us any sooner, the story (which is already the last thing that can get the viewers jumping for excitement) would have become stagnant. I don’t have any complains with regards to the pace of the show because thankfully, I guess the director had enough brains to  figure it out that a sound pace is the only thing that can attract viewers to this play. I don’t know the name of the actor playing Amir’s role but I must say that his facial expressions were spot-on especially when he said, ”Aap nay apni bari begum sahiba ko bataya nahe kay aap nay shaadi karli hai aur ab Masha Allah say bachay kay baap bhi bannay walay hain.” I was enjoying every bit of Hassan’s helplessness and this was as kalaijay-ko-thandak-providing for me as it was for Amir :P

rev.jpg

Coming to the serious part, Aisha’s reaction has been spot-on (although a tight slap/punch was something I was craving lekin khair humari bari begum sahiba bari lehaaz wali hain :P) and seeking Ahmed’s support was totally the right thing to do. She rightly held Hassan and Farah equally responsible for everything and I liked Aisha’s outburst in front of Ahmed- Ahmed had been wanting to handle the situation by concealing the news because he wanted to see his sister living a ”happy” life with Hassan but Aisha was upset with his approach, which goes to show that she’s not one of those people who simply refuse to face the truth just because they don’t want their illusions destroyed and going by Aisha’s reaction, it seems like she  definitely doesn’t want to live the rest of her life with someone who has been nothing but dishonest & unfaithful to her. I would LOVE to see her moving on- my wishful thinking, huh? I must confess that I honestly felt a lot for Aisha and I had no trouble relating to the emotional turmoil she was going through because since day one, they left no stones unturned in showing us what Hassan means to Aisha. Her world revolved around him- she trusted him like anything, only to find that all this time she was trusting an unimaginably shameless guy who just HAD to turn into a beizzati-prone, behiss & bewafa shauhar after being smitten by a girl with fiance-problems! Aisha was gullible and naive but she was plain sweet and meant no harm so seeing her crying over a guy like Hassan was something depressing.

dbb

You know when Hassan said kay Saman has never even seen him and Aisha being upset with each other, I couldn’t help but question it aloud that when things are sooooooooo picture-perfect, things don’t just go horribly wrongggg like this and since the writer didn’t bother to make it clear, can someone please do the honours and tell me again that all of a sudden, WHAT did actually compel Hassan to resort to dusri shadi?

This episode, to some extent, did show how dusri shadi was nothing but a mistake for both Hassan & Farah and Farah’s flashback showing how her sister had warned her about the adverse side to dusri shadi also indicates that Farah regrets this decision. Hassan has not only lost his reputation and respect in the eyes of Aisha, he is also struggling financially and it’s good that they’ve portrayed how taking care of two wives also gives rise to financial problems. He misses his daughter and his daughter misses him and this is the second ‘Big Bang’ play in which a strong father-daughter relationship is shown and the child star gets a considerable amount of screen time.

And ohh, it seems like Karachi is the safest city in the world because quite surprisingly, both Aisha and her brother keep their homes unlocked and anyone can barge in-just like that!

Even though this episode was comparatively better than the previous episodes, the initial ‘bonding’ scenes between Aisha & Farah are actually worrying me because Aisha commented how having a son will remain her and Hassan’s ‘unfulfilled’ desire so you never know- they could be setting this unprecedented trend of Husband+Biwi No.1+Biwi No.2+Daughter1+Son1=WeAreAHappyFamily!  Hayee, like I mentioned before, the thought alone makes me shudder!

Main Bushra- Khatam Shud!

0

And finally, Bushra’s journey has come to an end! We have seen this girl crying her eyes, lungs, heart (forgive me for missing out any other organ) out, we have seen her struggling to earn her father’s nod of approval, we have seen her offering every kind of support to her loved ones and since we have been a part of her far-from-perfect journey, we know only too well that the play’s ending is not exactly the sort of ”happy” ending this wonder lady deserved. The last episode was clearly a blend of praiseworthy performances, powerful dialogues and commendable direction and while it’s true that Bushra and Shayan finally got their ”happy” ending, I must say that this ”happy” ending was so heavy-duty that I kind of missed the ”happy” touch- if there was any! Alright, we know that Bushra and Shayan are together at last but a few cheery moments or after-happy-ending glimpses could have been shown just to deliver the right message a little more clearly that yes, people who strive to make a difference are always rewarded in the true sense and they end up with all the ”happiness” in the world. There’s no denying that heartrending and thought-provoking dialogues always hit the mark and all the conversations in this play were written to perfection but the last scene i.e. Bushra & Shayan’s conversation could have been a lot more memorable only if it were a little lighthearted, simple & sweet because sometimes you just want to sit back and enjoy watching your favourite duo smile especially after they’ve made it through a long and painful journey, don’t you think? I heaved a hugee sigh of relief when amidst Bushra’s incessant tears and hichkiyan, her very rare smile made an appearance :P. People who have watched Ek Tamanna Lahasil Si are well-aware how painful Bushra’s hichkiyan can be! I admit this over and over again that Mawra Hocane and Affan Waheed share sizzlingggg chemistry and their scenes, despite being few in number, will stay with us because they both managed to deliver exactly what was required.

last

Aapke iss bharam ko apna mazhab samajh lia tha mein nay, Abu! Ab tou beta ban gayi hun na main aapka? This scene was one of the best scenes we’ve come across in this play. It was overloaded with emotions but its wonderful how Saba Hameed, Waseem Abass and Mawra looked perfectly natural and nothing seemed forced. Although we have seen numerous plays revolving around gender discrimination and I was afraid that I’d lose interest in this play just because of the repetition of this theme, it’s safe to say that the unique dialogues and simple execution gave this topic a relatively new, different treatment. It was a touching confrontational scene- Bushra rendered Nasir absolutely speechless; Nasir was filled with remorse for how he used Bushra to handle the ‘burden’ of his other daughters and I liked how they showed that apart from shedding tears, there’s nothing Nasir could say or do to make up for his sheer selfishness.  Bushra- like I mentioned before, the name here holds much significance because the writer had to highlight how this twisted logic behind naming your daughter Bushra still prevails in modern, industrial societies and our protagonist’s whole journey revolved around proving this notion wrong and I must say that the writer did succeed in spreading the awareness.

Apni izzat ka bharam rakhnay kay liye ussay issi chat kay neechay rakh kar tortay chale gaye aap loag- the conversation between the two helpless mothers was yet another poignant exchange of words. I think Sabiha did need that reality check because in a way, she did exploit Bushra- she kept her in her house for the sake of her own family’s honour and pride. I find Sofia very likeable because the way she acknowledged Bushra’s greatness was commendable. I was thinking that after the disclosure of the whole divorce thing, Bushra would tell her parents about her marriage to Shayan but in the end it was Shayan who finally told Sofia the truth. Bushra meri biwi hai, meri pehli aur aakhri muhabbat aur is ski qeemat chukana kissi kay bas ki baat nahe- aap ki bhi nahe- for once we saw Shayan taking charge of the situation so I was very happy with this development.

Untitled

Faraz’s death didn’t come off as a total surprise- I guess by the final episode, they had to show karma getting back at the people who were unfair to Bushra so Faraz too had to face the consequences of destroying a young girl’s life just for the sake of torturing his mother. It is true that what Sabiha did to her son was not justifiable. Zinda logon ko marnay par majboor bhi nahe karte ammi! But then again, what Faraz did to Bushra was even more horrendous.  Saba Faisal is a gifted actress and she nailed the scene in which Shayan told her about Faraz’s death and Affan Waheed’s performance was also very natural. Oh and by the way, did any of you wonder why was Sania crying so hysterically on Faraz’s death? I mean, Sania aur Faraz ka kya gehra connection?

I just LOVED this dialogue and it sums up Bushra’s life so aptly- she had to go through a great deal of hardships and if there’s one word that can describe Bushra’s life, it’s ‘sacrifice’! The conversation between Sania and Bushra was beautifully written. Even though Faryal Rajput’s acting has been OTT, I feel that she did justice to the final conversations she had with both Bushra and Shayan. I think Sania and her mother were genuinely very nice people; they meant no harm and despite the fact that Sania had spent all her life dreaming of an ideal life with Shayan, it’s a source of relief that unlike the other desperate lovers of our plays, she didn’t resort to any sort of cheap or low-life tactics to ‘snatch’ Shayan away from Bushra. Yes, she was shattered when she first stumbled upon the news of Shayan and Bushra’s marriage but like any sensible woman, she took her time to come to terms with the fact that there’s no use clinging to a guy who has eyes for someone else.  Mein nay uski aankhon mein uski marzi dekhi hai, woh sirf tum ho Bushra. She also realized that if she doesn’t leave Shayan now, there will be yet another series of heartbreaks and grudges. So, Sania walked out of this relationship anddd Bushra and Shayan got their ”happy” ending :)

It is true that all the actors in  Main Bushra have appeared in similar roles over and over again but I saw loads of improvement in Mawra Hocane’s acting. She has perfected the art of crying but I’d have to admit that there were times when Bushra took a stand for what was right and Mawra pulled it off rather convincingly. I must confess that I’d LOVE to see Mawra Hocane and Affan Waheed in another play because their couple is one of the cutest couples of this season! I knowwwww this picture looks cheesy but it just caught my eye while I was searching for MB pics so mein nay socha kay drama mein zyada khush nahe dekh paye in donon ko tou yahan hi sahe, here you go:

897

Now that Main Bushra is ending, I’d like to applaud the efforts of the writer, Sanam Mehdi Jarchevi for giving us some absolutely beautiful dialogues. There were numerous quotable dialogues from the last episode and I could only quote a few. She is capable of penning some extremelyy poignant dialogues that offer food for thought and you know, sometimes even some apparently simple dialogues were actually so meaningful that I was hugely impressed and if she continues like this, she can go a long way! It’s pleasantly surprising that ARY decided to end a play within 25 episodes so there’s a hint of improvement in ARY’s dragging trend ;). What I seriously didn’t like about this play was the overall depressing and somewhat hopeless aura it had. From the background score to the dialogues- the glimmer of positivity was a little too hard to spot. I don’t know if this was something very relate-able that each and every character was so deep- I mean, even Ruqaiyya Aapa nay kuch bari gehri baatain ki so are we really surrounded by so many philosophers around here? Also, I think things could have been a little less heavy duty. It wasn’t a flawless play but it was definitely a far cry from the other dusri biwi, oh sorry, teesri biwi plays on air these days and the powerful dialogues, coupled with the simple direction & execution made it worth-watching.

So, what do you guys think of the ending? Are you happy with it? Share your thoughts!

Alvida – Episode 2

This was another fast paced episode, no time was wasted in showing how the zalim samaj reacted to Haadi’s love interest but I must admit that it definitely gave me the been-there- done-that feeling many times except for the parts with Haya and Haadi in them because these two have this amazing chemistry which makes everything seem right until of course it gets so wrong that the chemistry cannot do the trick too! Haya and Aroosa are sisters who are poles apart…. surprise!!. The nicer seedhi sadhi but thankfully not totally pheeki or brainless sister Aroosa wants to get closer to her sister but Haya has never liked Aroosa or her other sisters because she feels that her father chose them over her. The two sisters are compared constantly by their Khala who is like a mother and Aroosa of course is considered the role-model. The scene in which Haya makes sure that her Khala gets to see what miss perfect Aroosa is up to reminded me of the relationship between the two sisters in Bari Apa and Silvatein. Although I had no high hopes attached to this drama to begin with but even then I am slightly disappointed after knowing the relationship between Haya and Aroosa because we have seen so many dramas in which two sisters who were poles apart fought through the entire serial to come to an understanding or some kind, some of them got their happy endings and others didn’t. Even few of the recent plays written by Samira Fazal herself had stories revolving around sisters for example Bari Apa, Silvatein and even Chup Raho.

Haya and Fariza’s scene together in which they twisted the words of the wedding invitations was definitely one of the best scenes of this episode apart from all the scenes between Haya and Hadi (of course)! Imran Abbas and Naveen Waqar don’t have the kind of chemistry which Sanam Jung shares with our hero. The cute moments between them did not make me smile in fact they seemed forced. Aroosa’s character seems very interesting so far, she isn’t just simple but she is intelligent too and she also has a sense of humor but for now Hadi and Aroosa together don’t have the screen presence which Haya and Haadi share.

In my opinion this episode belonged to Sanam Jung; she made me feel for her character, I smiled when Haya had a reason to smile and I could feel how it must be like to lose someone you have fantasized to spend your life with for such a long time. Although Haya has absolutely no reason to think that Haadi “belongs” to her but even then I felt for her. It was good to see Haya come out in the open about her true feelings about Haadi in front of her Taya and Tayee. The way Haya’s Tayee made sure that Haya does not share her feelings with Haadi was also nicely done.

Until now it is easy to understand the motives and personalities of all the characters therefore I don’t have much to complain about but the fact is that I am still not entirely sold. I started watching this play for Imran Abbas and Sanam jung – to relive the magic these two weaved in Dil-e-Muztar and after watching these two episodes I must confess that the only aspect of the play which is appealing to me is the chemistry between these two actors. I looked forward to Haya’s scenes in tonight’s episode and I could not care less about where Aroosa and Haadi’s love story was headed! The scene in which Khala gave the entire family a lecture could easily have been much shorter. Apart from that this was a well-directed episode. The preview of the next episode showed that Haadi and Aroosa will get married and Haya will share her feelings with Aroosa while Haadi overhears her therefore there will be some serious trouble in Paradise. The last scene of tonight’s episode suggested that what Haadi feels for Haya might be much more than just fondness, if that is the case then the story will be very complicated. How many of you are looking forward to witnessing all these complications on screen? Do share your thoughts about this latest installment.

Zidd – Episode 09!

0

Well, if you don’t have anything to watch on a Tuesday night, you can watch Zidd just to kill some time because the story right now isn’t offering much. It’s just going somewhere without making any sense so it doesn’t matter if the drama’s good or bad, you can just watch it for the sake of watching it.

I think what the writer here is trying to show is that Saman herself has imposed all these hardships on her because she wanted to face life on her own that’s why she is bound to experience all this to actually value what she left behind. If she had accepted her marriage without retaliating, she would never have understood its importance & value. Right now, like Shazia said, Saman is like one of those people who’re in search of positivity & happiness but they forget to look around them because that’s exactly where it exists. I think for her own good, it’s better that Saman walked out of Omar’s home because now it’s her time to learn & face the truth that she hasn’t been happy ever since she decided to ignore her marriage. Once again, by saying this I don’t mean that Omar’s worth it but he can be if Saman gives him a fair chance & I think she eventually will because she has gone through a lot already. Now all that’s left for her is to understand how important her marriage is & to fall in love with her husband.

The notions Omar’s friend had about marriage & wives were ridiculous. I don’t get why Omar always goes to such people to share his problems with because he clearly looked uncomfortable while his friend kept on uttering non-sense about his life & his wife but then, it serves Omar right because he chose to discuss his personal life with a person who clearly falls short on brains!

Sorry to say but I am glad that Shazia’s MIL’s role ended within this episode because her sense-less talking wasn’t appeasing to hear at all. I really thought she’d have something to contribute to the story but she was also used as a filler exactly like that Pakistani student but during all this, I am glad that Shazia’s character was introduced. I liked the conversation she had with Saman because without even knowing, Shazia helped Saman a lot in understanding what she was doing with her life, but yes, I really wanted to see the perfect husband of hers; Asad, but too bad that he never made it to the screen even after he was being spoken about so much. I know it’d sound weird but it looked like Shazia was speaking about someone who never existed because going by her MIL’s depressing utterances, it looked like her son had died or something but then Shazia also invited Saman for lunch on a Sunday afternoon saying her husband Asad suggested it!?! I think it could be Shazia’s MIL’s jealousy talking which is why she sounded so depressed while speaking about her son as going by what Shazia said, her husband loved her a lot, so may be her MIL couldn’t digest it? Oh boy! Things would’ve been so much better if only Mr. Asad had made a single appearance,

Qasim seems like such a hypocrite because what he did in his life is what he is telling his daughter not to do whereas he’s the one who has set that precedent for her. I really like Rukhi & David’s relation but not sure if Rukhi will continue with it or not because Qasim is ruthlessly making so many decisions just so that he can pull her out of it. All of a sudden Qasim has started missing his mother & wants to spend time with her, but why didn’t he think of her before things were happy & normal in his own life?

Zainab’s weird & there’s nothing more to discuss about her. Let’s see what happens ahead because the preview suggested Saman’s break-down that too on Omar’s shoulder, so I’m looking forward to see how did it happen & what made that happen actually. Share your thoughts about this episode please!

Chup Raho – Bus Kur Du!!!!!!

NOTHING about this drama makes sense anymore; I am not sure what is more annoying – Numair’s never-ending manipulative ways, Rameen’s infinite stupidity or Manal’s “acceptance” of her evil husband. Numair has definitely not changed, there was a time when Numair’s actions made sense but ever since he resurfaced he has turned into someone who is very difficult to understand. He is still manipulative and selfish and he is still conveniently saying things to Rameen like he always thought she was better than Manal like it is no more than a “compliment”!! Rameen shouldn’t be there in that house in the first place but since we know she is stupid enough to go the extra mile to get herself into trouble so let’s not fret over that but let’s just consider everything that happened to her after she came to that house. How can it be okay for someone who raped her to apologize to her while he holds her? Why did Numair keep on reminding Rameen what he did to her like this was light years ago. It was as if Rameen had amnesia and it was in her best interest to be reminded of everything that transpired in the past. That scene was wrong on so many levels. And why didn’t Rameen just walk out of the door after hearing all that? Yes she wanted to help her niece but is it even possible for a girl to choose to be in this sort of a situation? Rameen is at Manal’s house out of choice which is really ironic or perhaps comic!

Our heroine has the option of staying miles away from the man who abused her over and over again but she would much rather stay in the same house with him even if it is for a few hours because she loves playing Mother Teresa! Rameen came to get a divorce from Azar and somehow no one informed her that Azar is dead. Numair is obviously lying to her because Azar is his first cousin therefore he must know that he is dead! Well let’s not doubt that he died because we all saw Humaima’s tweet in which she said that her brother’s character died! I have no idea what is going on! Does Manal know that Numair raped Rameen? It seemed like she did know it but then digesting the fact that she is okay with that is very very hard. We never saw the confrontation between Manal and Numair and we don’t really see a change in Numair. Manal is still with him so he didn’t lose much except for his social status which in my opinion is not a punishment big enough. I don’t feel anything for any of the characters but the way the story keeps on progressing forward with absolutely no focus at all is actually very upsetting. The writer must think that the viewers are intellectually challenged because any person with even a little bit of common sense will have a very tough time liking this drama.

The way Rameen has proved to be a good omen for every house she set her foot in is just plain ridiculous. She can win over the most challenging children within seconds, she can clean up your house and water your plants and expect nothing in return! I am sure everyone needs a Rameen in their lives! Numair is back to playing games again and he is running the show once again – definitely NOT what we wanted to see! This play is getting more absurd with every passing episode – time to put an end to this torture!

Ayza Khan Gives Danish Taimoor A Beautiful Surprise

This is going to be Danish Taimoor’s first birthday after his wedding with the beautiful Ayza Khan. Danish Taimoor was greeted with a beautiful surprise on his birthday morning when Ayza Khan planned something really special for him. She filled a corner with flowers, gifts, balloons and cake which was decorated and read “Happy Birthday Super Star”. Danish and Ayza’s wedding was the most talked about wedding of the year 2014. The couple looked electrifying on all the functions.

There was a rumor that Ayza Khan might leave her acting career after marriage but Ayza made it clear that it is not going to happen. Ayza Khan on the other hand wants to spread her wings and make a career in films too.

Here are some pictures of the most-loved couple of the drama industry:

Aik Pal_ Episode 13: 6 Years Later!

0

It is really good to see good people being rewarded after hardships. I am glad, that the writer decided to make the good characters happy before the last episodes. Noor Fatima’s problems had been half erased when Shazi entered into the village and declared her marriage to Imran and the other half was erased today.

Mus’haf shared his feelings with his parents, and sent them to the village to ask for her hand in marriage. It took a lot of time and some promises from Mus’haf, to get Noor Fatima to say yes, but to our relief, she did. Another stereotype that was broken in Aik Pal, was of the good-poor guy and bad-rich guy. Many times while watching dramas, I have wondered why only poor people are shown as pure souls? It’s not like every wealthy human being has superiority complex. Mus’haf is a genuinely nice person, who likes to not only help others, but lead a simple life himself.

Omair and Bareera are a boring couple no doubt and Omair is a sick man to the core, but I don’t think Bareera deserves him. Yes, she was  rude and proud girl, and even disappointed her father, but having Omair for a husband and never becoming a mother is way too big a punishment for doing all of that. Omair would have left her if she wasn’t rich!

ak

Imran treated Shazi the same way he always treats women. Of course, Shazi could not tolerate him anymore and contacted her mother once again. Her mother was eager to take her in once again. The “Malik Sahab” who wanted to marry Shazi, helped her escape.

Fullscreen capture 2162015 110714 PM

6 years fast forward, and Bareera’s condition has worsened. She is such a mess! Giving the business to Omair has left nothing for her to enjoy. Her days are spent smoking and lying around the house. Omair is now running the business and he is facing competition from MA Group of Industries, which according to his secretary is emerging as a strong contender for them.

Mus’haf and Noor Fatima are leading a happy life. Noor Fatima is seen arranging a Milad in her house. She meets her friend from university days and they both get talking. I really don’t like the idiot Noor Fatima becomes when she starts talking to people her age. At home, she’ll talk with a normal tone and look like a sensible person, but when she is with her university friends, she will act weird. I don’t get the “Aap”. Just like I didn’t get the “Omair Sahab” in one of the previous episodes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to talk to everyone with respect, but you can do it without looking weird. While talking to her friend, Noor Fatima asked about Bareera and mentioned a “ehsaan” that Bareera had done on her.

giu

Overall, it was a good episode because it was happening. Last two episodes of Aik Pal have had a good pace and there haven’t been any loopholes. Let’s see what happens in the lives of Bareera, Omair, Mus’haf and Noor Fatima in the future episodes.

Ali Safina, Zhalay Sarhadi excited about Jalaibee

Jalaibee (جلیبی) is an upcoming film scheduled to release on 20th March 2015. Cast members Ali Safina and Zhalay Sarhadi who recently visited the Studio of BBC Urdu have talked about this film. Ali and Zhalay are quite excited about this project.

As per Ali and Zhalay, the film is twisted and flavored like Jalaibee. Talking about rumors of an ITEM SONG filmed on Zhalay, Zhalay herself clarified it is not an item song. The song is a dance number, shot in the style of what Zhalay termed as ‘Madhuri Dixit style’. As per Zhalay the song was demand of her role as she is playing the role of a bar dancer.

Goya- Episode 14 Review

Every once in a while you come across a character in a drama that you admire so much simply because he/ she is human. Such is the case with not just one but at least two characters in Goya, if not more. It didn’t take very like for Omar to realize that he was being played- his miraculous ability to walk so soon after a spinal cord surgery reaffirmed his fear that Mohini didn’t leave out of her own free will but was coerced into doing so. What I have liked about Omar from the very beginning is his manners- how often do you come across a man in our dramas who never loses sight of his adab and aap/ janaabs despite his circumstances. Here’s a guy who’s life is a living hell thanks to his controlling father yet every one he comes across is extended the same courtesy- be it the house help, visitors, etc.

image

Zeb’s confidence is growing leaps and bounds- Hamaari maa ne humein darna nahin sikaya tha… Zeb is currently working as the house help but that doesn’t diminish her personality in the least. Having completed her Master’s Degree, she is not only qualified but entitled to a white collar job but she doesn’t let that affect her. On the contrary, she is helping Omar come to terms with the reality surrounding him. Though Omar was initially reluctant to even speak to her since she reminded me of the irreplaceable Mrs. Imtiyaaz, he is slowly learning to open up to her. She seems sensible and sincere; plus she also seems confident when dealing with the formidable Sr. Hashmi.

image

I was extremely annoyed with Nomi- he’s acting cold and nasty knowing full well that Omar is not to blame. As Omar reminds him, Mein toh behosh tha Nomi… He seemed indifferent when he heard about Mohini’s miscarriage- I expected him to have more of a reaction than a blank expression. I don’t know if Nomi has a bigger role to play but I hope he doesn’t come in between Mohini and Omar. God knows they need all the help they can get.

image

Zara and Omar are definitely on the same wavelength. Their shared experiences have helped them understand and support each other better. Zara has finally understood that the only way to get her parents to back off is to convince them that she and Omar are trying to sort through their love lives and develop an understanding which will take time and requested her mother not to rush them into a marriage. For now, her parents are on board with the waiting but I’m sure Rahat Hashmi will not take it at face value. Zara lets on to Omar that the last time she spoke with Adnan, he seemed different. She mentions that someone was in his apartment- was he hallucinating or was it a hit-man hired by the unforgiving Sr. Hashmi? I think the two of them will be able to connect the dots soon and figure out what really happened to Adnan.

image

Motherhood changes a woman- Haaniya is trying to free herself of her business commitments and plans on winding up her business. Haaniya tried to bring up the subject of another heir to the Hashmi empire but seeing Rahat’s reaction, she wants to run away for the sake of her unborn child. Her doctor friend is afraid for his own safety and advised her to stop consulting him and made arrangements for her to travel and stay at his Vancouver home. Somehow, I get the feeling of impending doom- I think Rahat is on to Haniya- she won’t be able to hide her pregnancy from him for much longer and when he finds out, he will almost certainly expect her to abort the child.

 image

Mohini is still unable to get back on her feet although she holds on to the belief that once Omar is better, he will come and find her. I like how Asma has stood by her throughout her dilemma and even now, she is supporting Mohini’s decision to stay disconnected from Omar. There was a bit of comic relief when Asma went to interview for a job with Shadab Zuberi. Let’s see if there’s more on that front in the coming episodes.

What did you think about this episode? Any guesses what happens next???

Digest Writer – Episode 20!

Hmmm, to be honest, after watching the preview of next episode, I am more interested to see what’s going to happen ahead because this episode didn’t have much to offer as we’re pretty much well aware of what Fareeda’s in laws are capable of & what struggles she’s going through.

This episode focused on how Fareeda is putting up with everything she’s exposed to because everyone has pretty much snatched away the power of decision making from her. ‘Khuwab jab puray ho jatay hain to unke ehmiyat nahi rehti’. Fareeda easily told the reality of her husband because she was his dream & when his dream got materialized, he didn’t value it. ‘Mere sasural walay waisay hi hain jaisay is ma’ashray mai ziyada tar sasural walay hote hain’. The conversation between Fareeda & her friend was so well-written that in just few words & with so much ease; they shared everything with each other. I was happy to see Fareeda’s friend as well, it’s like they have always given a special consideration to the supporting characters & they always had something or the other to contribute to the scenario or the story.

Fareeda is almost done with her in laws & especially her husband but too bad, she can’t ignore the reality because she doesn’t want to burden anyone. Even though Fareeda might look like a victim here but I really like how they have tackled her character because she is too strong to be victimized. Yes, she has always compromised for the sake of her family’s & in-laws’s happiness, but there’s still something about her that doesn’t make her a typical dukhiyari mazloom aurat that we see frequenting our TV screens these days. She knows how to take a stand for her, even though most of the times she has to back out from what she took a stand for, but the way she voices out her opinion & puts forth her thoughts is commendable & makes me like her even more. Fareeda knew that leaving Shaukat’s place for a few days wasn’t a solution to her problems, but she still went ahead with it whereas if it would’ve been someone else, she couldn’t have done that.

I didn’t quite understand the logic of Fareeda’s mother. Sorry to say, I have always liked & respected her parents but the way Zareena talked her into going back to Shaukat’s place really made me dislike her for that teensy bit of a moment. Fareeda is a self-sufficient person, who knows how to take care of herself but just because a few people pried into her private life, Zareena wanted to make things right just so that she doesn’t have to answer more such questions that might come her way. I so wish that Anwar had taken a stand for her daughter once again but looks like he likes being dependent on Fareeda but in return he isn’t doing much for her.

Fareeda’s only quality that her in-laws like (but never appreciate) is the way she takes responsibility of the household expenses & just because she left for a few days, Shaukat’s place was in shambles & this is exactly what made Sajida & Shaukat bow down to her for a moment just because they understood how important it was for Fareeda to come back. Sad is, that even though Sajida knows that her husband & good for nothing son haven’t done anything for her family as much as Fareeda has, she still doesn’t acknowledge her efforts.

I so wish they had shown us how Mazhar Hayat apologized to Fareeda & how he requested her again to write for his channel, but never mind, at least we know that Fareeda is doing good for herself in her professional life & she has finally & successfully achieved her dream of becoming a renowned writer.

One thing I thought was a little odd was the way Shaukat stumbled upon Shehryaar’s letters. When Fareeda was at her own place, she had the same diary but then Shaukat also got his hands on it & got to read the letters that Fareeda & Shehryaar exchanged. I think Fareeda really kept those letters close to her heart, so it wasn’t a wise thing to show that she’d leave her diary behind that too at such a place where anyone could easily find it. I really thought after this, Shaukat would create havoc over it but for now he took it pretty well. I am sure he will use it when the time would be right because Shaukat knows how to mend the situations for his own benefit.

I really wish they had shown that Surraiya grew up a bit because that would’ve made the time lapse look a lot clearer & realistic. She’s still a toddler whereas so many things have happened in Fareeda’s life. I really like the way Aqeela sides with Fareeda but I also hate to see how Sajida insults her just because she is now dependent on her own family. This episode was still enjoyable but it was filled with all such things that we have pretty much gotten a clear picture of, but to be honest, the preview of next week’s episode has gotten me all excited because I am sure it’s going to be a power-packed episode with a lot of developments in the story & more exciting twists & turns. Share your thoughts about this episode of Digest Writer please. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.
