Mawra Hocane’s Open Letter To Shaan Shahid And All Her Fans

0

Shaan Shahid who is very well-known for his patriotic stance and has rejected many offers from India because it is his aim that one day he will make Indians work in Pakistani films instead of Pakistanis going there never compromises on patriotism. This is the reason that when Shaan hears Pakistani stars supporting India especially when their support is damaging Pakistan in any way he always reacts. Shaan called actors who work in C grade films in India cheap sell outs few months back and now when Mawra supported the film Phantom he asked for a ban on Mawra Hocane. The public has greatly supported Shaan Shahid because they also feel that Mawra’s tweets were damaging to the Pakistani stance on the film.

1

Mawra Hocane decided to write an open letter to “Mr. Shaan Shahid” and all her fans in which she described why she tweeted on those lines saying, “My tweets were out of utter ignorance for I had not seen the trailer neither was I aware of the sensitivity of the matter back home for I’ve been shooting out of country days and nights, unfortunately not keeping a track on what all Mr Shan had already tweeted on the matter. “

Mawra Hocane surprisingly also said that her statements had been manipulated. “However I’d also like to share that I’m extremely hurt & shocked for I don’t expect someone as wise as Shan shahid to manipulate my statements of supporting peace & love into “supporting phantom” (the words I never Used). “

She also criticized Shaan Shahid for his wrong approach towards newcomers saying, “Honestly I’m only just a kid infront of the 55 year old Shan shahid instead of taking pride in bashing kids less than half his age he should become a mentor and try and fix things for us, if we make mistakes.”

mawra10

Mawra Hocane also said that Shaan Shahid had no right to bash those Pakistanis who were working in India because they were working very hard to earn love and respect there. “We work so hard to achieve the love & respect in our people’s hearts and he always attempts to ruin it for everyone in a jiffy. Be it me, Ali Zafar , Fawad khan or Someone as legendary as Javed Shiekh . He has always bashed everyone who’s “stepped in India”. It’s about time he realise that it’s not a piece of cake for me to be working in media, to be leaving my country and going to India alone in pursuit of my dream in the age of 22. It’s at the cost of endless hard work and sleepless days and nights and it takes a big heart to take all these decisions and he certainly has no right to just sit home and bash us all publicly, be it on a social media forum or an award show,” wrote the actress.

Mawra does not blame her fans for reacting the way they did because they were according to her only reacting to the wrong information that was fed to them by Shaan Shahid. She wrote, ” I’ve no complaints to my fans as they reacted to what they were fed.”

She also went on to say that she will not let Shaan’s word stop her for working hard like she always does. “Sir, Art is subjective and boundless, however quickly coming back to the topic, Hating others cant make you more a patriot, My heart goes out for my country I do everything in my power to become a better citizen of my Pakistan and I absolutely and dearly love it, you’ve no right to judge me and make a statement about me being any less patriotic for again bashing me won’t make you anymore a patriot.
You know what Mr Shan shahid I will still rise every morning, work as hard, still pursue my dream, still go after what I’d like to achieve and still keep my head high. I don’t need to love/like people like you to be a patriot. My love for my country and my people doesn’t need your approval. “

Mawra also implied that Shaan Shahid was biased against women and Pakistani celebrities who worked in India. “If My words were (unintentionally) hurtful then yes I will apologise to my own people for they’ve loved me through my good times and bad but I will certainly not be answerable to someone like you who doesn’t work anymore and only sits home and bashes two categories of people, 1. women ofcourse because you’re a man and 2. anyone who works in India because you still didn’t get over turning down Ghajni a decade ago, it’s an old topic now and you can’t rub this in everyone’s face who wants to work in india or elsewhere. (can’t ignore the fact that you were offered a sidekick role. Things might’ve been different if it was offered otherwise)
Finally Coming to the “BAN” Mawra hashtag. Did anyone ban you when you pulled off the sleaziest of acts in Punjabi films ( I’d send in data if you’ve forgotten) which could’ve influenced kids like me in a bad way for I remember being 9 or 10 when you were really famous but now that you have retired you leave no chance to bash us youngsters??? “

mawra shaan

Mawra Hocane also asked Shaan Shahid to leave and everyone else alone because these celebrities were not accountable to him in any way. She wrote,

“In the end, I still don’t hate you, you know why because they say ” Love what Loves you but never hate what hates you for hate is the burden that exhausts the Stars in you” I certainly don’t want the stars in me to die for someone as unworthy as you.
I’m a brave Pakistani girl, a London graduate, a dreamer, a girl who won’t get scared of the bashing for it’s irrelevant compared to the dreams I carry in my Heart & mind everyday.

For me shooting in India is just like me shooting in Dubai, America, Cape Town or any other country so stop making a big deal about it regardless of my workplace I Love my country and I’ll always belong to it without the approval of his excellency Mr Shan shahid and every inch of my existence will do everything to do Pakistan proud. I don’t need to reject other countries work opportunities to prove my patriotism, PAKISTAN in is in my blood and soul regardless of your opinion of me sir!
Cheers sir.

(You must leave us kids alone as I’m politely asking you not to interfere in our matters and hinting that I don’t intend to continue this war of articles with you for unlike you I’ve got so many other things to do in my plate like.. work. I wouldn’t have given you a single reaction if it was not for you challenging my Love for my fans and for my country)
God bless!”

All Shaan has said in reply to Mawra is in the form of a facebook status in which he is saying that Mawra is not owning her mistake.

Here is the full content courtesy of ET.

After Humaima Malick and Mahira Khan, Momal Sheikh is set to make her mark in Bollywood. The Pakistani actress will soon be seen in Tanu Weds Manu director Aanad L Rai’s next.

A source revealed that the makers of the film had discussed the script with renowned Pakistani actor and Momal’s father — Javed Sheikh when they were looking for a Pakistani actress to portray an “important” character in the upcoming film, reports Hindustan Times.

They instantly decided to cast Momal when they came to know about her.

“When Aanand and Mudassar Aziz (director) discussed the film’s script with Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh, who has acted in Bollywood films like Namastey London (2007) and Om Shanti Om (2007), they informed him that they were looking for a female actor for an important role in the movie,” the source said.

“When they came across Javed’s daughter, Momal, they offered her the film,” the source added.

One of the directors of the film, Aziz confirmed the reports saying, “When we met Javed saab, he didn’t mention Momal to us. It was a surprise to come across her during one of our meetings. We immediately decided to get her on board.”

Momal will star alongside Abhay Deol and Diana Penty.

We wish Momal all the best for her Bollywood venture and hope she makes it big across the border.

Mol – Episode 13

The dialogues are well-written, the actors are doing complete justice to their roles, the execution is simple and spot on, but as much as I didn’t want to say this, Mol is no longer as interesting or realistic as it used to be and I think this has a lot to do with what I was expecting from Emaan. I had high hopes attached to her character but I am afraid she’s no longer the woman I thought she was. And strangely enough, I wasn’t expecting Sheheryaar to wow me but that’s exactly what he’s doing!

While watching Humayun and Zareena spew venom against Emaan, I was reminded of all the times Sheheryaar used to explain to Emaan how his family doesn’t mean well for them. I can totally understand why all this time he was trying to avoid them as best as he could. Sheheryaar feared that their constant interference would spoil his relationship with Emaan and that’s exactly what’s happening. Right after that unpleasant encounter with his parents and Chalak Chachi, for a fleeting moment, Sheheryaar was forced to think about what his family was saying about Emaan. I think this was natural because after hearing such accusations, he, like any normal person, needed some time to collect himself. After Sheheryaar’s soliloquy and the awkward scene at Rohail’s house, I was beginning to think that Sheheryaar too joins the league of the shukki, judgemental husbands that grace our screens every now and then, but the conversations that followed left me with a really good feeling. I am so pleased that Sheheryaar and Emaan decided to talk to each other about what’s bothering them and where is this going because that conversation was much much needed. And I have to say that Sheheryaar said all the things my ears have been starving for! Have we ever witnessed an onscreen husband saying that he doesn’t even want to discuss the possibility of going ahead with dusri shadi because it’s way below his belt? Have we come across an onscreen husband whose faith in his wife doesn’t waver in spite of all the accusations directed at her? How many times have we seen a character apologizing to his wife for speaking to her in a harsh tone? I am so pleased and relieved that he explained to Emaan why he had reacted that way and that apology was music to my ears! Needless to say, I have tons and tons of respect for Sheheryaar. Faisal Qureshi has been phenomenal and I don’t think I can imagine anyone else playing Sheheryaar with such ease and brilliance.

Yeh bhi ek phase hai. Haina Sheheryaar? Tumhari zindagi tou mukhtalif phases mein bati hui hai. Kia pata shayad mein bhi ek phase hoon. So that’s what Sheheryaar gets for reassuring Emaan that he would never leave her? I feel for Emaan because I truly understand that the news of her not being able to become a mother is devastating and it’s only natural to feel that life has lost all its purpose and meaning, BUT what I fail to understand is that how does she expect Sheheryaar to help her out of this situation? Being with Shahnaam makes her happy and Sheheryaar told her that she can visit that boy whenever she feels like, but we found her wondering, ‘’kaash aap keh detay kay mat jao.’’ If she wants Sheheryaar to make sure that he would stay by her side, that’s exactly what he’s been doing since the last two or three episodes! Why is she bent on proving that Sheheryaar is a cold and heartless guy?

Muhabbat ek aisa jaal hai jis mein hum larkiyan apnay aap ko bohat mehnat say qaid karti hain aur phir pachtati hain kay yeh kia hua. Sajal and Emaan’s conversation involved some hard hitting dialogues and I think for the first time EVER, (I could never have imagined myself saying this) Sajal made a lot more sense than Emaan! It made me happy that Sajal actually put herself in Emaan’s shoes and wondered aloud if Zareena and Humayun would have accepted the same circumstances for her. It’s a relief that Sajal is not as insensitive as her parents, but I am keeping my expectations low because I remember how her immediate reaction to Sheheryaar’s marriage was very promising but the later events proved otherwise. Sheheryaar kisi ka nahe hosakta, Sajal. Emaan actually thinks of Sheheryaar as the cruelest man alive and I don’t seem to get why. What’s the poor guy’s fault? He didn’t say ”I love you’’? Is that it? Emaan is a dreamer and her views about love are different from Sheheryaar, I know, but I was hoping for her to sense that she does hold a significant place in Sheheryaar’s life, but Sheheryaar being Sheheryaar, is reticent about his feelings. He likes some things to be left unsaid while Emaan wants feelings and emotions to be expressed – it’s not that big an issue as she thinks it is. I was actually shocked when she said, ”Shayad Sheheryaar waqai mujhe chornay ka soch rahay hain’’, because it was only in the previous scene that Sheheryaar had comforted her that he won’t leave her or marry Sajal! I don’t seem to get what she has against the guy she ‘loves’ so much. It’s strange that she loves Sheheryaar but has no issue with him getting married to Sajal. This was the last, let me repeat, the last thing I expected from Emaan. Had Sheheryaar given her any hints that he doesn’t want to live with her anymore, I would have understood why Emaan wants to walk out, but nothing of that sort happened. I feel that more than Sheheryaar’s family, it’s Emaan who’s responsible for the rift between the two.

Emaan nay bohat bahaduri say yeh sab kuch face kia hai. Emaan ki bahauri nay mujhay hara diya hai. I don’t really agree with Sajal because I don’t think Emaan has faced this blow with courage at all. She has been hopeless and she is constantly blaming Sheheryaar for not being able to understand her feelings. The Emaan we are watching these days is nowhere near the strong headed person she used to be.

Mein aur Zareena bohat seedhi saadi gharelu aurtain hain. OK, now we really need to revisit our definition of seedhi saadi! When did Chalak Chachi make a wise decision for the well being and happiness of her daughter? Did I miss something?

Just out of morbid curiosity, what became of that adoption plan? It sounded pretty good to me and from what we’ve been shown, Sheheryaar hadn’t exactly rejected it. It really felt like Emaan was very much into the adoption thing as well so I don’t know why no one’s bringing it up. Also, remember how Emaan was so very passionate about her school work and Sheheryaar had promised her that he would talk to his friend who also happens to be the Director of a school? That actually seems like ancient history now! Emaan is dealing with a blow but is Shahnaam the last kid on earth? I don’t like Emaan’s obsession with Shahnaam not because I am narrow minded or something but because I believe that running after a married guy’s child is not a pragmatic solution to her problems.

The best thing about Mol is Sheheryaar and the way he is dealing with this tough ‘phase’ of his life. I still have faith in the drama and I hope that the story moves along in a convincing manner. How many of you are watching Mol? Voice your views!

Hamza Ali Abbasi & Gohar Rasheed Call Mawra Hocane Shameless & Worst Than An Animal

Mawra Hocane’s tweets about Phantom have not been taken well by Pakistani public or celebrities. After Shaan now Hamza Ali Abbasi has asked for a ban on Mawra Hocane because of her support for the film Phantom which Hamza Ali Abbasi says is, “a stupid film, they are trying to cash in on anti-Pakistan sentiment. Because Saif Ali Khan is not an A-lister, he is a flop actor whose last desperate attempt to win over people was to star in an anti-Pakistan film.”

Hamza Ali Abbasi also said, “Saif Ali Khan is not an artist, he is not a Muslim or an Indian, his religion is money. He is the kind of person who will even sell his parents for money!”

2

Hamza Ali Abbasi did not take Mawra’s name but it was very clear that he was talking about her when he said, “There is a Pakistani actress who supported them so that she will get work in India. That is such a wrong thing to do. Even an animal knows that he should respect his owner who has taken care of him and given him respect, such statements and such films should be banned.”

Gohar Rasheed who is usually not vocal about these controversial happenings but this time he spoke how he felt about Mawra’s tweets openly.

Imran Abbas Is Against Sensationalizing Sensitive Issues

0

Ever since private Pakistani channels have taken over the reigns of entertainment industry the viewers are getting to see many dramas based on all kinds of storylines. There was a time when Pakistani dramas were family dramas because they hardly ever touched upon tabooed topics in the society but that is not the case any more.

imran abass

There are actors, directors, writers and producers who think that everything that is happening in the society at a small or large scale should be shown in dramas but Imran Abbas does not share this point of view. Imran Abbas pointed out in order the kind of storylines which he wants the writers to avoid. He feels that television has a bigger responsibility because it is in every house and so available to everyone unlike a film to watch which you have to go to cinema house and buy a ticket.

Here is what Imran Abbas had to say:

1

Meera Explains Why She Hates Mahira Khan

Meera’s tweets about Mahira Khan in the past few days have given her a lot of publicity but not in a good way. Meera tweeted a few days back that people should not watch Mahira Khan’s dramas and films because she did not know how to act. Mahira Khan’s fans came to the star’s rescue and defended her but Meera went on speaking her mind!

Express Tribune asked Meera what was the reason for this sudden dislike for Mahira Khan to which she replied, “Mahira Khan replaced me in a major project by Momina Duraid — she literally took that project away from me.”

Not only this Meera also said that Mahira Khan had been campaigning against her. She said, “Even I have met many Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan and Karan Johar. In fact, SRK even offered me a film.”

mahira meera

She went on to say, “But because of Mahira’s campaign against me, I lost all my projects in the Indian industry and she got one”.

Meera put some serious allegations on Mahira Kha saying, “I am still a super star and have made a number of remarkable films so it is unfair that Mahira gets all the work and I don’t…..Had she not established her own lobby in the Karachi segment, she wouldn’t have made it so far.”

She also said that Mahira did not get where she is today on the basis of her talent. She said, “If we create groups within the industry, the situation will get worse. So, I humbly request Mahira to come forward on the basis of her talent only and stop sidelining me.”

Mawra Hocane In Trouble

Whenever there is any sort of rift between Pakistan and India everyone wants to know what those Pakistanis who are working in India think about the whole scenario. Usually either the celebrities stay quiet or they try not to give controversial statements. Unfortunately sometimes some people are not able to remain patriotic or keep a neutral stance which puts them in trouble.

3

Mawra Hocane is currently in India busy shooting her first Bollywood flick. It is sad to see Mawra having a very neutral stance which makes it appear to be that she supports the unpatriotic film Phantom which created so much controversy that all of Saif Ali Khan’s films have been banned forever in Pakistan. Mawra Hocane tweeted to the effect that she did not think Phantom was anti Pakistan and she also urged people to watch the film and then decide! Saying things like she was “pro humanity” irrespective of which country she belonged to generated a lot of criticism because Pakistanis expected her to side with Pakistan and not keep such a neutral and somewhat anti Pakistan stance.

2

Shaan Shahid found Mawra’s tweets very offensive and he asked people if the actress who supported an anti Pakistan film should be banned.

1

The general public thought of such statements as “cheap tactics” to win the hearts of Indian people. The film has not been getting good reviews from even Indian critics. Critics think that the film is “average” and some of the critics have said that Katrina is no more than a “mannequin” . A charity organization has also filed a case against the people who made the film!

Tumhare Siwa – Episode 02!

Awww, so nice of the writer to have told us about the main motive of this drama just in the beginning & yes, surprise surprise, it’s ‘the ultimatedusri biwi scenario’, aren’t you guys thrilled because I sure am. It has been a while since I got a sob-com to review & I so am looking forward to Tumhare Siwa for the sole purpose of having some fun with my readers here because to be honest, this drama has nothing new to offer so before it gets ugly which I’m sure it would, why don’t we have some laughter therapy every Friday. I am sure it won’t be too long before HUM would realize what a flop this drama is going to be & this star-studded downer that HUM promoted wholeheartedly would be shifted rather ditched to some 9PM slot but honestly, every time I see such dramas like Dil Ka Kya Rang Karoon, Mausam, Jugnoo, Zidd etc that get a weekend slot, I can’t help but wonder what were the admins of HUM TV thinking!

I know it might be too early to pass a verdict on Tumhare Siwa because only 2 measly episodes have gone on-air but I guess we have experienced enough of such hideous 2 biwi dramas that we exactly know what they have in store for us & also, the pairing of Ayesha & Ahsan makes it a lot easier for us to guess where we’re headed because it’s been a while since these guys got a decent drama up their sleeves, so yes, they are anything but credible when it comes to nice scripts. I must say, I commend the writer for coming up with such a typical, predictable & one-dimensional story because this is exactly what we all were looking for & missing in our drama-lives that too on the weekends eh, so thank you so much for that!!!

You know what, Tumhare Siwa has taught a lot of khud-daar Pakistani men out there another todka of how they can get involved in a dusri biwi scenario, provided the man (Aazar) in the picture is a bit established & has a decent bank balance in comparison to his friend (Arsal) because then only some random guy would come & suggest that you have to marry your friend’s wife (Samra) to save her life. Oh, the second wife-to-be in this drama is a lot more bechari which automatically makes Aazar a bigger hero than he actually is & she also is a patient suffering from some ‘unidentified disease’ which was just another detail they didn’t bother telling the viewers about because they hurried in getting the two husbands busy in arranging the whole amount of money which definitely was more important as it’s the money that gets Arsal divorced from his wife & gets a number added in the list of wives that Aazar has & will have.

Oh boy, there’s still some good news in here for those viewers who were missing the life-less duo of Ayesha’s Bhai & Bhabhi from the drama ‘Dusri Biwi’ because their seat this time has been proudly taken by the Behan Tania & Behnoi Babar of Tumhare Siwa. Make no mistake; they are just as faarigh & just as lifeless as Ayesha’s Bhai & Bhabhi were, so we exactly know what their purpose is. They are there to pass judgments on the matters where their say isn’t needed at all. They are too worried about Aazar’s daulat that Arsal & Samra are lootofying according to Tania because she only has one brother & that makes her entitled to his earnings automatically. At least Ayesha’s Bhai in Dusri Biwi was a bit dignified where he could support his sister but here Babar takes the crown for being dependent on his wife’s brother; Aazar because occasionally he asks Aazar for money too.

I found the whole money issue quite forced where Arsal was made helpless & Aazar was made the in-charge of the situation where he could support Samra’s medical bills but oh well, he gets to do that if Samra was his wife & not Arsal’s, but wait, both these guys were best friends, looks like they graduated together, stepped into their careers together, landed the same jobs too, so how come Aazar is more stable than Arsal? Point to ponder!

Looks like Rania is the naik parveen in this drama where she would happily sacrifice Aazar & allow her husband to get married to Samra to save her life & later she will be after the same ‘life’ that she herself must’ve given to her friend by handing over her husband to her LOL!

To be honest, this drama is very plain & offers nothing to look forward to. It would’ve been a tad bit tolerable ‘if’ the writer had added more depth into the script & the characters but nope! It all looks very drama-esque with no quotient of reality in it & also it looks very superficial. We really don’t know who these characters are, what are they like, what do they think & feel. It looks like they are brought together under one banner without having a proper work done on all of them before, that is why the story has just begun & they have gotten busier in conveying it without allowing us to get familiar with everything properly, you know what I am trying to say, haha! Also I think the sole purpose of this drama was to show Ahsan Khan & Noor Hassan in some uniform thinking it would be something new & different that would entice the viewers because other than that their jobs have no effect on the story itself & Tumhare Siwa could’ve progressed just the same way if they were shown to be some bankers or some managers. Share your thoughts about this masterpiece-in-the-making please. ;)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Farwa Ki ABC – Episode 6

This episode was definitely not as funny as the last one but there was a great deal of development in the story. Asma’s ‘move’ did not come as a surprise at all and it wasn’t surprising to watch Junaid dancing to Asma’s tune too. Honestly speaking after finding out the real reason behind Junaid’s interest in Farwa I am actually happy that Farwa did not end up getting married to him. The best way to sum up how I feel about Junaid and Asma’s marriage would be to say that both of them deserve each other!! Junaid can live the rest of his life relishing the fact that he is married to Asma Ghaznavi. So what if she does not give him an ounce of respect, Junaid is obviously not looking for respect! These two actually make an interesting couple!

fabc

Farwa and her teacher’s marriage however was rather sudden but I have a feeling that her teacher might be putting up a show in order to teach Farwa the lessons he could not teach her when he was only her teacher. Farwa’s reaction after this “marriage” went to show that she was never interested in her teacher just like she never felt anything for Changez but she only went ahead with this marriage because she did not want to spend the rest of her life with Junaid. I must say that the only comical scenes in tonight’s episodes were the ones with Farwa in them. Sonia Hussain nailed it as usual.

fabc1

Few of the scenes seemed too long like the one in which Farwa’s parents were waiting for the groom to arrive and later on when Farwa’s mother cries because she thinks her daughter is never coming back. The decor for the engagement function looked beautiful. The way Asma ‘consoled’ Farwa’s mother was pure genius! It also went to show that she did not have a high opinion about anyone else other than her teacher. She seems to enjoy finding flaws in people! The only reason Asma enjoyed getting married to Junaid was because she knew she was ‘stealing’ him from Farwa. Asma’s character is anything but positive but the actor playing the role is doing a commendable job. The make-up artist deserves full marks for making everyone look great in tonight’s episode and the director deserves due credit for dressing everyone up in a way which adds to the comic element of the play in some way.

fabc2

I missed watching Changez in tonight’s episode especially because he always gives me something to laugh about. I must admit that I was expecting much more from tonight’s episode after the humorous episode last week but even though it didn’t meet my expectations it gave me a reason to look forward to more. I am pretty sure that Farwa and her teacher are not really married or you can call it my wishful thinking! If Farwa really does end up spending the rest of her life with someone old enough to be his father then this would be the second time we will see Sonia Hussain pairing up on-screen with someone much older than her.

Muqaddas – Episode 30-33

Muqaddas is getting more interesting after each episode and the makers have made sure that the viewers don’t get bored any second! I really appreciate the writer for introducing the right twists at the right time. Muqaddas might have slowed down a bit after the reveal of the kidnapper but now it has picked up speed.

After Ruhi’s constant reminders to Aatir, that the child could not possibly be his, made him realize that this child would never live a normal life. Muqaddas would always face taunts.  When Muqaddas finally accepted in front of him that even she believed the child wasn’t Atir’s, he knew that he had destroyed the life of the woman he loved. Unable to face Muqaddas, Aatir ran away from the house for a few days, after telling only Ruhi. All he left Muqaddas was a text, and told Kausar to take care of Muqaddas. Now Kausar may be a kind soul, who always warns Muqaddas if Ruhi is cooking something up against her, but she is only a servant of the house. What could she possibly do to save Muqaddas from her evil MIL? Aatir should never have left his wife at the mercy of Ruhi because he knows very well how much she dislikes Muqaddas_ but he did.

Screen Captures3

If it was any other actress playing Ruhi, this character would be intolerable. Hina Byat, on the other hand, has played many of my favourite characters in the past and she performs well in every role, even as the evil stepmother and saas. Aatir leaving the house, for Ruhi, was like hitting the jackpot. First of all, she told Zain to grab Aatir’s place as CEO of Ahmed Ali Group of Companies. She knows that Zain is not mature enough to do any such thing. She also knows how much Aatir loves his step-siblings and respects her, but her greed remains the same. Secondly, she reminded her daughter-in-law that now she would be the one giving the orders. This resulted in Muqaddas not being able to meet Ashrafi once again but none of these steps were as evil as scaring poor Muqaddas in the middle of the night! She fainted right there. Still, it was funny how quickly Annie, Kabir and Nida arrived at the scene and Ruhi could do nothing other than pass sarcastic comments. Annie came in like a boss, as of it was her house and Ruhi and Zain were outsiders. It made me laugh.

Screen Captures4

Aatir made his way to another house of his. He desperately wanted to talk to someone and that is why he called Sarmad, the man he met at the graveyard. Even when he didn’t know much about Sarmad, he felt a connection to him and that is why he felt no issue in discussing important issues of his life. Mera dil karta hai ke mein apne dil ki saari baatein tum se share karun. He told Sarmad all about how he married Muqaddas and then kidnapped her to take revenge from Jahanzeb, how he fell in love with her after that and now that she is pregnant, his plan for revenge is in jeopardy. Sarmad proved to be a voice of reason. Jin se muhabbat karte hai unse intikaam nahi liya karte. Aatir planned his revenge for a long time, but he had no idea fate would intervene like this. Now that it has, he has no idea how to deal with it. What will Muqaddas do when she finds out about what he did to her and her father? Her entire world will shatter and she will definitely never want to see Aatir again. He wouldn’t have returned, if not for Kausar’s phone call.

The biggest reveal however, was that Maryam is still alive and well. She is living with Sarmad, her son. After seeing Maryam for the first time, a lot of questions popped into my head. Maryam is alive, so who did Aatir’s family bury? Why hasn’t she contacted her son? When Sarmad asked her if he had a brother, she denied. I was kind of surprised after hearing her thoughts.  “Jis baap ne tumhe najaiz keh kar tumhe gaali di, uska beta tumhara bhai kese hosakta hai?” Did she not meet Aatir all these years just because he was Ahmed Ali’s son? Whatever the matter is, I love the timing of this drama!

Screen Captures7

For the first time, Kabir actually analysed the situation and explained it to Nida. Doubt will ruin their relationship and for the first time Nida realized that he was right. Their relationship is suffering because; Kabir has been in love with Muqaddas all this while. He could never build a strong relationship with Nida who isn’t exactly a polite and patient woman. Also, Kabir is trying to help Muqaddas realize that Aatir is her kidnapper, and Aatir is Nida’s brother. Kabir can’t tell this to Nida because she will never believe this. His attempts at helping Muqaddas are considered cheating attempts by his wife. This communication gap could result in a divorce.

Aatir found a way out of this situation_ abortion. He knows that if Muqaddas finds out that the child is actually his, she will realize that he kidnapped her and he doesn’t want to lose Muqaddas. What he doesn’t know is, that it’s not possible to abort this child, otherwise Muqaddas would have done it earlier.

Kabir and Muqaddas’s meeting seemed like a waste of time first. Even though this time Kabir was completely sure about Aatir’s involvement (since he overheard Jehanzeb and Aatir talking in the hospital)  I did not expect Muqaddas to trust him at all, but he did manage to convince her a little bit. When Muqaddas visited Jehanzeb after her conversation with Kabir, she ended up crying on her father’s shoulder and telling him about what Kabir said. Aatir doesn’t want Muqaddas to meet Kabir because he knows Kabir is on to him. Looks like Jehanzeb also doesn’t want Muqaddas to find out the truth. He is too ashamed of what he did and knows he wouldn’t be able to face her. He ended up telling Aatir about Kabir’s meeting with Muqaddas.

Screen Captures6

Aatir drove mad after hearing this, and even threatening Kabir at the top of his lungs wasn’t enough. Woh mujh se zyada kabir pe aitbaar karti hai. Aatir’s breakdown in the washroom was wonderfully performed by Noor Hassan. I have lost count of all the moments when he was phenomenal in Muqaddas and this was definitely one of them.

Screen Captures8

Sarmad’s phone call came at the moment when Aatir needed it. I kind of like the bond between Sarmad and Aatir. They’re brothers and they don’t know it but still have this strong connection. I wish Sarmad would make more of an effort to make Aatir realize that what he did was wrong. I really think that meeting Maryam will change Aatir and he will accept his mistakes. What made me laugh was that now there are two people entitled to the ownership of Ahmed Ali Group of Companies. Ruhi doesn’t even know it yet! ;)

Whether Aatir will accept his mistakes is not clear, but one thing is obvious, it isn’t happening anytime soon. Aatir is up to his knees in revenge and he isn’t leaving it behind. He will do anything to keep his cover. Him blaming Kabir for the kidnapping was surprising considering how much he tried to save Nida’s marriage. This highlights Aatir’s extreme side, just like the breakdown earlier. He will do anything to stop Muqaddas from finding out the truth. Nida’s reaction did not surprise me. I was just happy that Muqaddas wasn’t in the house. She would probably be murdered by Nida!

Pakistani Censor Board Bans Saif Ali Khan’s Films Forever

Saif Ali Khan’s blunt and rude remarks about Pakistan Censor Board and Pakistan in general have generated negative publicity for him in Pakistan. Saif Ali Khan passed these comments on twitter after his upcoming Indian film Phantom did not get passed by the Censor Board of Pakistan. Pakistani actors like Hamza Ali Abbasi and Shaan Shahid also answered Saif Ali Khan in a way he deserved to be answered because his comments about Pakistan were unbearable. Saif Ali Khan said that Pakistan is a country in which a terrorist can go to court to which Hamza Ali Abbasi replied, “If u think its funny how a terrorist can go to court in Pakistan, i too find it funny how a mass murderer of Muslims in Gujrat can become the Prime Minister of India. Let me now say this, because of movies like Phantom and hateful actors like Saif Ali Khan, I AM LOSING FAITH IN INDIA.”

HAA

After Saif Ali Khan said he had no faith in Pakistan Shaan Shahid gave Saif Ali Khan a fitting reply through social media in these words:

“Faithless saif
Needs to find life beyond Pakistan !
Faith doesn’t come from a country it comes from within and you have lost faith in yourself after 4 consecutive flop films
So what do you do bash Pakistan so you can hide your flops behind the combined hatred of Indians for Pakistan
Win them with your talent not by fake one liners
Remember superman can only fly in films
So dare not cross our borders with hatred in your heart
But equality and respect in your thoughts ,actions and films
You don’t need to find villains in Pakistan you have enough of them back home …. With protocol now

And the puppet khans are the symbol of the only Muslim domination wake up man nobody’s buying it anymore
Time for a new plan
India needs a Martin Luther king to free the Muslims of India
Equal rights about time !!!
Tell your khans to worry about India and stop thinking about Pakistan it is protected not by khans only but by every tribe living and breathing Pakistan
It is our home our motherland don’t bring us in your conversations go find somebody else to talk about you have seen our politicians not our people they are a different breed
We will protect Pakistan it’s
Borders and the cultural borders
And I’m sure you feel the same way about India as an Indian you have a right but you take away my right when I feel about my country
Strange !!”

shaan

As a result of the entire controversy the Censor Board has decided to put a definite ban on Saif Ali Khan’s films which will remain in place for an indefinite period of time.

Sangat – Episode 2

Anyone who has not seen this episode yet should keep a tissue box handy while watching it because the first part of the episode in particular was very emotional. It is so important for the viewers to be able to relate to the characters that are shown in dramas and I must say that Saba Qamar has managed to make me connect to her character quite easily. I felt Ayesha’s pain every step of the way in tonight’s episode. This episode had its high and low points – the lowest point being Ayesha’s mother’s reaction which unfortunately got a lot of screen time.

Ayesha’s mother’s reaction to the incident unfortunately reminded me of Rameen’s mother. While I understand that a mother would do anything to save her daughter’s marriage, I find it impossible to relate to these mothers who are so strong that we do not see them shedding tears even when they are alone and they do not feel the need to console their daughters. It would’ve been far more convincing if we were shown a scene or two of the mother and daughter bonding in which we saw the mother feeling her daughter’s pain and expressing how she really felt. A mother must go through a lot more than these on-screen mothers if their daughters are violated like this. Unfortunately these on-screen mothers are so busy covering up for the culprits and so determined to move on that they forget all about what their daughters are going through. It would’ve been much better if for a change we saw the daughter relying on the mother for some comfort and solace instead of the mother acting like she was an authoritarian with no feelings! A request to our writers please humanize these mothers or stop giving them so much screen time.

sangt

While I am not happy with the way the mother’s reaction was covered in this episode, I must say that asking a counselor to talk to Ayesha was definitely an ‘educated’ thing to do! I am glad that unlike Chup Raho the writer highlighted the fact that girls who go through such trauma cannot just get over it automatically after a certain period of time has passed but they need professional help. The counselor’s suggestions and whatever she said to Ayesha’s mother was spot on as well. I would definitely give the writer full marks for that.

sangt

Saba Qamar was outstanding all through tonight’s episode and Ayesha’s character has been etched-out very nicely too but it would’ve been far better if Saba Qamar compromised a little on her styling and make-up. While her acting and body language was flawless, her eye make-up and hairstyle did not go with the entire scenario. Her face should’ve reflected her mental condition just like her body language did. I think Saba Qamar is a very talented actress but I must say that she needs to understand that she has a very pretty face which will look equally good with a little foundation alone and it will make the audience connect to her character even more. Like I said Saba Qamar’s performance in tonight’s episode was picture perfect therefore her make-up could easily have been over-looked by many viewers. The first time Ayesha hugged her husband, I could understand why she would want to do that and it seemed appropriate but the second time it was shown, it seemed forced and the peck on the forehead was totally uncalled for.

Adnan clearly fell for the lie Ayesha’s mother told him. I liked the way Adnan shared his feelings in the last conversation of this episode. I am glad that he talked about how devastated he would’ve been if such a thing happened to him and did not talk about it from some other perspective. I must say though that I wasn’t impressed with Mikaal’s performance today and I felt like Saba Qamar completely over shadowed him. Will Ayesha be able to muster up the courage to tell her husband the truth? I am waiting to find out and I am really hoping that she will be the one telling him what happened and he won’t find that out from some other source.

“Mahira Khan Doesn’t Know How To Act At All” – Meera

Who would have thought that Meera would go all out to prove to people that Mahira Khan cannot act and that too publicly. Saying something like this in a private conversation is something different but tweeting your negative opinion about an actress who is much more famous than you takes a lot of guts. All of us know that Meera always gives us reason to keep on talking about her and this time she has really put Mahira Khan’s fans off by tweeting that Mahira does not know how to act at all.

meera

Here is the tweet which was later on deleted:

1

Meera got some serious bashing from Mahira Khan’s fans after this tweet but she did not stop there. One of the fans tweeted:

2

To which Meera could not resist replying. This was her expert opinion:

3

Most of the people on twitter agreed that Mahira was a much better actress than Meera and Meera had no right to say things like that about Mahira.

Agha Ali Does Not Want To Compromise On Quality

0

Nowadays there is abundance of private channels which is why any new talented actors will always have many offers to work in different drama. Most of the actors who are starting their careers are not very choosy because they work in whatever project that they are offered because they want to be seen on television very often.

agha ali1

Agha Ali is a young budding actor who has been seen in many dramas but lately his fans are complaining that he is not being seen in any drama. Agha Ali posted on social media the reason for his absence from dramas. He posted,

” The reason why I’m not on screen (dramas) these days is only “you” guys. I’ve rejected 6 of the serials that are coming on TV right now and they had almost the same storyline or too similar to the last few ones that I did. One hero and two heroines and the rest you all know. I cannot be a part of any project unless ‘I want it’ and I’m not someone who’d say I did it because of bla bla so I said No and signed only two in the past 5 months and these two will be aired very soon. I will also like to quote that “Khuda Dekh Raha Hai” was the best script out of all I got in the recent times and I’m sure that “Kaffara” and “Tere Mere Beech” will touch your hearts as well.”

Looks like this youngster wants to do characters that will make him memorable. He refuses to accept any script that comes his way because he does not want the viewers to see him in the same avatar over and over again.

Ayesha Omer Thinks Hamza Ali Abbasi Is An Attention Seeker

Hamza Ali Abbasi gets a lot of ‘honest’ feedback from his co-stars which is not always good to hear. The reason for this is that Hamza also does not hold back his thoughts and always feels he is free to share whatever he thinks about anything on social media which would mean that whatever he shares is seen by everyone. When you comment so publicly on everything then you should expect some comments like that from your fellow stars too on public forums.

While giving an interview recently Ayesha Omer was asked what she thought about Hamza Ali Abbasi’s comment that item numbers in films were like mujras. Ayesha Omer has also done an item number in the film Karachi Se Lahore and when Hamza Ali Abbasi made this comment the promos of her item number from that film were airing so people automatically linked the two things. Many people said that Hamza Ali Abbasi’s comment was directed towards the item number by Ayesha Omer.

hamza11

In reply to the question that what she thought about Hamza’s point of view Ayesha Omer said, “Hamza’s comment was not directed towards me. In fact we teased Hamza later on that you’re own film is going to be released soon in which you are seen dancing with many girls who are wearing hardly any clothes. So, what is the difference? What is okay and what is not?”

aysha omer2

Although Ayesha Omer said that Hamza Ali Abbasi’s comment was not directed towards her but this part of her reply shows that she really does not think so. Ayesha said, “A lot of people pass comments, a lot of people give their opinions, this is their right. There are many people who give opinions and statements because they are looking for attention.” By saying this Ayesha Omer was implying that she did not really care what Hamza Ali Abbasi thought about item numbers because he was only giving these statements to get attention.

Hamayun Saeed Talks About “Bin Roye”

0

Hamayun Saeed has done a lot for the Pakistani drama industry not only by acting in the dramas but by making a production house which has given the Pakistani viewers some unforgettable dramas. Recently Hamayun Saeed talked to a newspaper about his film Bin Roye among other things. Many people are criticizing Hamayun Saeed playing the lead with Mahira Khan because he is so much older than her. Hamayun explained, “Age makes absolutely no difference. If Aamir Khan could do 3 Idiots at his age then anything is possible; one just has to work on his character and appearance to make it appear real. Mahira and I both had to look ten years younger in Bin Roye and I think we’ve done a convincing job.”

bin roye

He also said something that will come as a surprise to many, “Ironically the film’s requirement was that we NOT have chemistry……….The film is very real where relationships are concerned.”

bin royee

The film Bon Roye did really well on the box office. Hamayun Saeed believes that happened because it was a female centric film unlike many of the other films that were not based on such stories.

Sarmad Khoosat & Mahira Khan As Guests On Geo Kahani’s Morning Show

0

Geo Kahani’s new Morning Show Subh Ki Kahani started the beginning of its journey by inviting two people who have together made history by contributing a lot to the success of Pakistani dramas. Mahira Khan and Sarmad Khoosat need no introduction. Mahira Khan gained popularity like she never had when she played the lead role in the play Hamsafar which was directed by the very talented Sarmad Khoosat. Since then Sarmad and Mahira make it very obvious that they really like working with each other. They are not just colleagues but also very good friends. Currently Mahira Khan has been busy working with Sarmad’s very special project which is the film “Manto”.

6

While answering some questions on the sets of Geo Kahani’s new Morning Show Mahira Khan talked about her role in the film which will be very different from all the roles she has played till now. Mahira Khan said she found the role challenging “NOT because I’m projected as feminine – that’s not even something I think about. The challenge was to act with the monkey, like a monkey and then as the master of the monkey.”

Sarmad Khoosat also said, “I wanted to challenge her, “But it’s not just unorthodox casting. It’s also a reflection of Manto’s gender-less approach to characters.”

Here are some pictures from the set of the new Morning Show:

Diyar-e-Dil – Episode 24!

Ohkay so, it was such a heartwarming episode of Diyar-e-Dil tonight. I must say all the actors have portrayed their characters so well that they have formed the connection of another level with us. Indeed, Diyar-e-Dil has been a complete package but such a phenomenal acting that stirs the emotions makes it even better. I must confess, after ‘Shanakht’, ‘Diyar-e-Dil’ is going to stay with me for a long long time & for that I am grateful to the whole team of this drama starting from the Writer to the Director to all the Actors.

Finally, the truth won Faarah over & finally, after a long long time, she has realized that this is the place to be & this is where she exactly belongs. Her stroll around the Haveli, constants reminders of Behroz’s presence & things related to him made Faarah realize that she isn’t meant to be anywhere else. In the battle between her mind & heart, her heart has finally won because it automatically got drawn towards where she is supposed to be. Ever since Faarah has come to Haveli, she has always felt connected to this place, she has always found an inner peace that she never experienced before, and therefore even though it took her a long time, she has finally accepted Agha Jaan, his love, his sincerity & his pure intentions. Even though Faarah has yet to fall in love with her husband; Wali, I have loved every bit of her transition from a confused person to someone who now has figured out everything on her own & I am sure, there’s no turning back. She has always longed for a family, she has always loved being pampered & after Behroz, it was only Agha Jaan who did all that for her, so it is imperative that she will ever be going back to Ruhina again. Faarah loves being with Agha Jaan & that’s a stepping stone towards her decision of staying with him & everyone else for the rest of her life.

Collage 1

I loved seeing the sigh of relief coming from Wali. His plan of bringing Agha Jaan & Faarah together has succeeded & that was all that he wanted. I really felt happy seeing Wali pleased because he now knows that Faarah has stopped misunderstanding Agha Jaan & she now knows that Agha Jaan loves her a lot. Yes, all the things he said to Faarah brought her to this point because he wanted to shake & wake her up & for that I am glad that he blew the whistle because only then Faarah understood that she was holding onto her ego & Ruhina’s brain feeding for all the wrong reasons. I am so glad that Wali held his ground & never crossed the line of decency with Faarah even after being pushed to the limit. Wali showed that it takes a lot to be a man & he proved to be a gentleman throughout. He wanted to make things right for Agha Jaan & now when that has happened, he has stopped bothering Faarah at all because he knows that Faarah herself will take care of Agha Jaan & wouldn’t need his instructions anymore.

Zarmeenay still can’t accept the fact that Faarah is sharing Agha Jaan’s love but I loved how Arjumand made her realize that if Agha Jaan is happy; she shouldn’t be bothered at all. Zarmeenay might be saying all this purely out of jealousy or also out of her sheer concern for Agha Jaan because she herself has seen that every single time Faarah & Ruhina came in contact with Agha Jaan, they caused him stress & nothing else. I love how Arjumand always keeps a check on how her children behave because she doesn’t want to feel ashamed in front of Agha Jaan. I also really appreciate the fact that they have shown how everyone takes care of Agha Jaan & his feelings because they have never shared their difference of opinion in front of him, it shows they all are very courteous when it comes to Agha Jaan & don’t believe in burdening him with their concerns at all. This is what usually happens in most of the households where grandparents are treated with utmost attention, love & respect & I must say, to see such nice bonding & seeing a head of the family being treated so nicely on TV screen is a breath of fresh air.

Collage 2

The highlights of this episode for me were the conversations that Wali & Faarah, & Agha Jaan & Faarah had. I absolutely loved seeing Agha Jaan clarifying his stance in front of Faarah & Faarah crying her heart out to him because she was already feeling suffocated & she needed to let go of the burden that was tearing her apart, & yes, I did cry, not a bucket but enough to grab a tissue paper because that scene was so touching.

Oh well, Meesna Moeez wasn’t so Meesna after all, innit? It was a shocker to know that it was Moeez who suggested Faarah should inherit her part of the property because in his own peanut sized brain, he has accepted her as his fiancée & he thinks he owns Faarah & everything that belongs to her. Even though I am glad that Faarah is away from all of them, I am also happy that Ruhina is stuck between them because she needs to learn her lesson for sure. Moeez is eager & is now losing his cool because he has his business partner pressurizing him to fend for the finances for their new business & I am sure this is what will force Moeez to show his true colors to Ruhina because he already is feeling burdened & doesn’t know how to figure a way out of this.

The preview of the next episode was engaging as well. I am sure Agha Jaan will try to ease Faarah’s pain because he has pretty much understood that Faarah is not into this relationship as he has noticed already how Faarah always tries to change the topic whenever he’s speaking about Wali. I must say, Maya Ali looked extremely pretty in this particular episode. Her pale face depicted the unease she was feeling & later a little color on her cheeks showed how she felt much better by letting go of her fears after speaking to Agha Jaan, I must say the makeup artists deserve a special mention for their awesome work & so do the stylists because I think it has been a while since we got to see a stylish heroine clad in long coats & Maya Ali really has carried herself well in Diyar-e-Dil. Osman Khalid Butt looked great too in his horseback riding ensemble, also he looks so mature & responsible whenever he wears a Shawl over Shalwar Kameez, it gives him a very refined & genteel look. The stars of this episode were Abid Ali, Maya Ali & Osman Khalid Butt for sure. They make their scenes such a treat to watch but yes OKB deserves a special mention for such a phenomenal acting in the confrontation scene because his expressions were so controlled & he elaborated Wali’s state of mind perfectly. I can’t wait for the next episode already. Please share your beautiful thoughts with us about this beautiful episode of Diyar-e-Dil. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Aitraz – Episode 3

This episode just like the previous two wasn’t free of clichés but just like the preceding episodes it managed to hold my interest nevertheless. Having said that I must add that some dialogues should be officially barred from drama scripts. When I say that I am referring to dialogues like tum ne mere bete ko kya ghol ke pilaya hai…yeh lrki tumhari maa se ziada ahem ho gaye and many many more! I am sure that thousands of mothers utter these lines in real life as well but they have been overused in our dramas and some new one liners to get the message across would be a great help since I am pretty sure that our writers will continue writing scripts on these lines!

I must say that I wasn’t expecting Komal and Arsalan to get married but it happened and I am wondering where the story will go from here. It was good to see Komal taking off the ring and starting afresh. Although she kept on thinking about Wajdan right till the last minute but everything that happened in tonight’s episode went to show that she was going to start this new life with a new frame of mind. She wants to make this marriage work and she wants Arsalan’s mother to be happy with them both. Komal’s rationale for leaving Wajdaan made a lot of sense; given her history she wouldn’t want to be the one responsible for tearing a family apart but I wish history did not repeat itself in the exact same way and that part of the story was carried out differently. Arsalan showing up on Komal’s footstep in the exact same manner as Wajdan was a little too much of a coincidence. The only big difference was that this time Rayna was there to make Komal rethink her impulsive decision and keep her fiancé from leaving her forever.

5 6

I was the one who was hoping that there would be more of present and less of past in this episode but I have to say that I wanted to see Wajdan in the present too. Tonight’s episode focused on the wedding and its aftermath alone. I guess the writer and the director want to keep us guessing whether Wajdan is married or not and if he has moved on with life. I felt for Arsalan today more than anyone else and I must say that whatever happened with him in tonight’s episode made me feel for all the men out there who must be stuck in such a situation! What does a man do when his mother judges him for loving his wife? Arsalan’s mother’s insecurities undoubtedly gave me the been-there-seen-that feeling but at the same time you can’t deny the fact that such mother in laws exist in abundance in reality too.

9 8

The first two days or so of Arsalan and Komal’s married life were covered nicely. Sana Javed doesn’t ever need to try very hard to convince the viewers of her character’s loyalty towards those she loves therefore I did not doubt Komal’s intentions for a second! But will her intentions and efforts prove to be fruitful? I seriously doubt that! Arsalan’s character is turning out to be very “normal” which is a nice change because I am sure just like me all the other viewers are sick and tired of watching husbands on screen who find it impossible to stand by their wives – well it is a tough job but not as tough as the husbands in our dramas make it look like! I sorely missed watching Imran Abbas in tonight’s episode and some of the dialogues really put me off, other than that I am still interested in finding out what is going to happen next. Aitraz has not been outstanding in any way till now but it manages to engage you and most importantly every episode gives you a reason to look forward to more.

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode and I would love to hear which dialogues you people think should be permanently banned from our dramas!

Indian artists in Pakistani films

India is our eastern neighbor with which we share few similarities (there are many differences as well) in term of language, cuisine, dresses, art, music and films. Few languages like Urdu, Punjabi, Seraiki, Kashmiri, Sindhi, Marawari are spoken on both sides of the border which divides India and Pakistan.

The major language of India is Hindi, and Urdu in Pakistan. Though in classical form these two language differ from each other in terms of vocabulary, as Urdu’s vocabulary is highly influenced from Persian, while Hindi mostly borrows its vocabulary from Sanskrit. Both languages have different script. But the colloquial form of Urdu and Hindi is quite similar, and speaker of any one of these can easily understands the other one.

In the pre-partitioned British India there was a thriving Hindi film industry. The major centres of Hindi film making were Calcutta (Now Kolkata, India), Bombay (Now Mumbai, India) and Lahore (now in Pakistan). In 1947, British India is partitioned into two independent states of India and Pakistan. Lahore which was considered the third largest center of Hindi film making in India, was now a part of Pakistan. During the partition of 1947, widespread riots occurred in the Punjab region including its capital Lahore. The film studios in Lahore were burnt, and were in a devastating condition. Many skilled persons related to film making seeing an uncertain future in Pakistan migrated to Bombay (now Mumbai), India now part of India, where film making was stable with a bright future.

Despite such unfavourable conditions, few artists from Mumbai, India also decided to be part of the Pakistan. Mostly such artists were from the areas which were now a part of Pakistan like Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and East Bengal. Few notable names among these were Shaukat Hussain Rizvi, Melody Queen Madam Noor Jehan, Sooran Lata, Nazeer, Feroz Nizami, Baba G.A. Chishti and many other who built the foundation of film making in Lahore (Pakistan) after considerable struggle and hardships. Since inception Pakistani film industry suffered due to lack of finance and support from the Government. The low budgeted Pakistani films have to compete with the high budgeted Indian movies as well for business at the theaters. Urdu despite being the National language was not the native tongue of majority of the residents of Pakistan, so the circuit of Urdu cinema was limited as compared to regional language Punjabi.

Screening of Indian films was allowed in Pakistan till 1965. After 1965 war with India, a ban was imposed on the release of Indian films in cinemas. The ban was lifted in 2006 and since then Indian films are doing exceptionally well in Pakistan. In between 1965 and 2006 few Indian films were also screened in cinemas upon special permission of the Federal Government. In 1980’s the military ruler General Ziaul Haq allowed screening of two Indian films. Similarly in 2003, another military dictator General Parvez Musharraf allowed release of Indian films Taj Mahal and later Mughale Azam (Colored version).

Despite similar language and film technique very few Indian actors have acted in Pakistani films. The major reason for this the constraint of budget. It was possible in Pakistan to produce a film with in the budget required to hire a top Indian artist which is also popular among local audience. For the very same reason very few Indian artist worked in Pakistani films. In commercial films few lesser known Indian faces appeared, whereas few big names of parallel Indian cinema appeared in similar films produced in Pakistan.

Nasir Khan (ناصرخان)
Nasir Khan (Late) is the younger brother of Dilip Kumar. Dilip Kumar hails from Peshawar, which became part of Pakistan in 1947. The future of film making was quite uncertain in Pakistan at the time of independence. Dilip Kumar and his family preferred to live in Mumbai, India over their birth place Peshawar which was now in Pakistan.

Nasir Khan made his film debut in 1945 in Bombay, British India. In 1947 at the time of partition, Nasir Khan was in Pakistan and before returning to India he worked in two Urdu films. Nasir has the distinction of first ever filmi hero of Pakistan when he worked in first Pakistani film Teri Yaad (1948). Soon after Teri Yaad he also appeared as hero in Shahida, the second Urdu film of Pakistan. Both Teri Yaad and Shahida proved super flop in Pakistan the country struggling at the time with settlement of a large influx of refugees coming from India.

Film Shahida was also released in India, and surprisingly in Lucknow and Delhi it celebrated silver jubilee. After the release of Shahida, Nasir Khan returned to Bombay (Mumbai), India to join his other family members already living there and never returned to Pakistan.

Nasir Khan

In India Nasir Khan further worked in few films without any success. Nasir Khan passed away in 1974 aged 49. Nasir Khan never achieved the fame and status like his brother Dilip Kumar.

Sheela Ramani(شیلا رمانی)
Sheela Ramani is an artist born in Sindh, British India from the Parsi community. Sheela started her acting career in Bombay and stayed in India after the partition in 1947. In 1959, Sheela travelled to Karachi, then the capital of Pakistan to work in an Urdu film Anokhi. It is said she worked in the film on the request of her uncle who stayed in Pakistan.

sheila-ramani
Sheela Ramani

Anokhi was a low budget film produced in Karachi. The film is remembered today for its song ‘Gaari Ko Chalana Baabu‘ in the voice of Kausar Parveen. Anokhi was not much successful and Sheela returned to India afterwards. Sheela passed away in 2015 in India.

Here is the famous song Gaari Ko Chalana Babu from film Anokhi featuring Sheela Ramani.

Despite lack of resources and finance Pakistani film industry gradually paved its way towards success. Many successful films were produced which were also copied in India. Apart from stories, Indian musician also copied many songs of Pakistani films as well. The screening of Indian films continued side by side with local films till 1965. In September 1965 India and Pakistan fought an inconclusive war which resulted in bitter relationships. The transport links with India (Railway, road) were closed.

Similary screening of Indian films was banned in Pakistan in cinemas. This ban made a space in the market of Urdu/Hindi films and consequently the production of Urdu films increased in Pakistan. After 1965 a new generation of Urdu film stars emerged like Waheed Murad, Nadeem, Muhammad Ali, Zeba, Shamim Ara, Shabnam, Rani to name a few. The trend of Urdu cinema achieved new heights in late 1960’s to 1979. In this era many superhit Urdu films were produced, but no Indian artist is casted in any of these. The local stars were enough to attract audience available at economical rates than who cares to hire an expensive Indian star.

In 1977, army general Ziaul Haq imposed martial law in Pakistan under the slogan of islamize the society. In 1979 he put severe restrictions on Urdu films productions which impacted Urdu films production. While Urdu cinema was under restrictions, regional cinema was free from such restrictions. In 1980’s production of Punjabi and Pashto films out numbered the Urdu films. Urdu cinema continued its downward trend started in 1980’s and completed faded till early 2000’s.

So after Sheela Rummani in 1959, for almost next four decades no Indian artist acted in a Pakistan movie. After 2000’s few Indian artist worked in Pakistani films but these were either independent films or the Indian artist were rather lesser known.
Kirron Kher (کرن کھیر)

After miserable failure of God father, Sultanat was the second such attempt of Mr. Bhatti. Again in Sultanat, Aslam Bhatti was in lead role and many Indian artists in the supporting roles but the result was still the same; Sultanat failed at the box office like God father.

So it sums up the name of the Indian artist who acted in Pakistani films. As compared to Indian actors, many Indian singers have provided vocals for Pakistani films since late 1990’s. For Pakistani film producers it is more viable to hire Indian singers rather than an actor. Gharr Kab Aaoo Gay (2000) and Tere Pyarr Mein (2000) were the first such films, but the name of Indian singers were not mentioned in the credits and replaced with fictitious names. Since 2000 many Indian singers have provided vocals in Pakistani films.

Here is a partial list of Urdu and Punjabi films having at least one song in the voice of an Indian singers.

Gharr Kab Aaoo Gay (2000)
Released in 2000, all the songs of this films were in the voices of Indian singers. But on credits fictious name were mentioned to avoid any controversy. Some big singers of Indian cinema provided their vocals like Udit Naryan.

Few songs from this film.

Tere Pyarr Mein (2000)
Released in 2000, all the songs of this films were in the voices of Indian singers. But on credits fictious name were mentioned to avoid any controversy. Some big singers of Indian cinema provided their vocals like Sonu Nigam. Few songs from this film

Yeh Dil Aapka Huwa (2002)
Released in 2002, all the songs were sung by Indian singers. It is the first film which openly credited the name of Indian singers like Kumar Sanu, Kavita Krishnamurthy.

Pyar Hi Pyar Mein (2003)

So it sums up the Indian artist which have worked for Pakistani films be in acting or singing. Though Indian films and singers are extremely popular in Pakistan, but due to limited budget of local films casting any Top Class Indian actor is near to impossible for the Pakistani film makers. All the famous names like Nandita Daas, Naseeruddin Shah, Kirron Kher who worked for Indpendent Pakistani films have worked on nominal wages which is a norm of the Independent cinema through out the world.

There are few exceptions as well, in the films God Father (2007) and Sultanat (2014) some big names of Indian commercial cinema were in the cast, but the motive of both these film was to launch the producer Aslam Bhatti as an actor. To attract viewership these big names were in supporting roles, while Aslam Bhatti played the lead role. But both the films failed to attract any significant viewership.

Mol – Episode 12!

Ohkay so, this episode of Mol was quite intense & interesting. I have always enjoyed watching Mol for the fact that you always get to understand what is running through a character’s mind, which also means that all the characters have been written with a lot of diligence & intelligence. I must say, the writer here has succeeded in keeping things engaging enough & also the viewers are forced to look forward to every upcoming episode of Mol. By this stage, I am eagerly waiting to find out what the ending of this drama would be, which shows that this drama has been so promising & I am sure everyone who has followed it till this episode would follow it right till the end.

This episode was dedicated to Zareena & her conniving nature. As much as I do understand that being a family means sticking together with each other, I think nowhere does it say that being a family also snatches away the limit of respect & decency one has to extend towards each & every family member. The way Humayun, Hajra, Zareena & Murad discussed Imaan & her medical condition was simply disgusting. They are actually making a mountain out of a molehill because Shehryaar & Imaan are still a young couple. Yes, their concern is realistic & understandable but their solutions & discussions were cringe worthy. The way Murad suggested that he deserves an explanation & conclusive decision from Shehryaar made him stand out like a sore thumb because excuse me uncle, you should be worried about getting your daughter married first without poking your nose into someone else’s business because by the end of the day, what Shehryaar does or goes through shouldn’t concern you at all. I found Zareena & Murad’s involvement in this whole matter quite strange because like I said, there always is some limit & some privacy even amongst the closely knit family members. I really think that Humayun & Hajra are still quite gullible in comparison to Zareena & Murad because they trust their relatives’ way more than they are entitled to & Murad & Zareena aren’t as sincere as Humayun & Hajra take them to be. I also think it was Humayun’s fault to discuss it out in the open about how Shehryaar returned his picture; he really needs some lessons on how to keep some things to himself because by doing that, he welcomes unnecessary & unwanted taunts his way.

The way Zareena blew everything out of proportion was appalling. She has seen Shehryaar’s worst & she also is well aware of the fact that Shehryaar is a very difficult person, so what gives her the guarantee of her daughter’s eternal happiness with a man like him? More than being a mother, Zareena is being her daughter’s enemy where she is not allowing Sajjal to get over Shehryaar easily. I guess, more than Sajjal, Zareena wants to see Sajjal getting married to Shehryaar because he hurt her ego once & she wants to brew a storm in his life until she gets what she wants. To be honest, after Sajjal & Imaan’s conversation, I really believed that Sajjal was wise enough to understand that Shehryaar never belonged to her & also, she did get to know that Imaan also was facing some issues where she felt unwanted in his life, but oh boy, the apple fell from the same tree, that is why Sajjal is still stuck on him & didn’t mind hearing her mother’s suggestion of becoming Shehryaar’s second wife. ‘Hum dono ke raaste aik hi hain’, (followed by that evil smirk) I think by now it would be better for us to give up the hope of seeing Sajjal getting a life because she isn’t working on it & she is incapable of finding one. I really expected Sajjal to be different but then I guess the way ‘dheet-pan’ runs in her family, she couldn’t be any different.

I must say, I really really like Shehryaar’s character. Yes, at first, he might’ve looked a bit different & stubborn but I really respect his character for the fact that he is a man of his word. Yes, all this while, he was doing things in rebellion but he isn’t that irrational to change a course of his life due to his strong urge of rebelling against his whole family & that is why, he makes it very believable that he loves wife but chooses not to say so. The way he is taking a stand for her, the way he is doing all those little things to make her feel better, the way he assures her with his words that not having a baby wouldn’t change anything between them really makes him a good husband & even a better person. I really think Imaan is missing the point here because if her husband believes in giving his wife some space, this shouldn’t be something that she should be shedding a tear upon. I really do feel for her character & for what she is going through, but I also do feel that all the doubts she has about Shehryaar & the strength of their relationship are self-created. Imaan still believes that just because Shehryaar doesn’t want a child, he is perfectly fine with Imaan, which I find quite irrational of her because he agreed to whatever she, & the doctor suggested & that was because he wanted to make Imaan happy.

All of a sudden it looks like Imaan is magnifying every little detail related to Shehryaar & his reactions just to misunderstand him. Imaan has also always done what she deemed fit, like even after knowing that Shehryaar doesn’t want her to mingle with his family, she went ahead with it, even after knowing that he didn’t want her to have a conversation with Sajjal, she gave her the edge, so now when Shehryaar allowed her to spent some time with Shahnaam at his place, why did Imaan feel like Shehryaar should’ve stopped her? What I have always loved about their couple is their deep & mature conversations, so why is it so hard for Imaan to convey her feelings to Shehryaar, because when it comes to dictating who should do what & who likes what, we only get to see Shehryaar talking. I feel the writer should have added a dialogue or two in some conversations where Imaan is seen conveying what she expects from Shehryaar & how she would like to be treated because yes, Shehryaar does not believe in binding his wife but I don’t think he doesn’t believe in listening to his wife as well.

Now coming to the show down between Shehryaar, Humayun & Zareena. I absolutely loved everything Shehryaar said to Humayun & how highly & respectfully he spoke about Imaan. If that is not love, then I don’t understand what love is. I so wish Imaan could hear what Shehryaar had to say because then she would’ve gotten a perfect validation of her relation & Shehryaar’s love that she is longing for. Shehryaar made his point clear about how much he hates his family’s interference in his life but sadly, I wish just like Humayun, Hajra could blame her son once & not hold Imaan responsible for who Shehryaar has become. Unfortunately, Humayun & Zareena succeeded in infiltrating Shehryaar’s mind against Imaan & they managed to plant a seed of doubt in his heart too because the way their voices echoed in his mind was alarming. I really wish they don’t turn Shehryaar into a typical husband who starts doubting his wife because till this point, his character has been very different & decent. I really wish to see Shehryaar backing his words of how much he trusts his wife because now he’s going to face the time when he’ll have to prove it.

Overall, it was a very interesting episode. All the actors have done such an amazing job that they make it seem like a real-life situation. Their reactions, their expressions are totally realistic but yes, the crown goes to Faysal Qureshi & Naveen Waqar. I absolutely love their acting & feel they have given perfect faces to Shehryaar & Imaan’s characters & oh, I must add, I love Naveen Waqar’s dialogue delivery, her voice is very soothing to the ears, I absolutely love the way she speaks. Please share your thoughts about tonight’s episode. :)

Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Box office report of films released on 14th August 2015

The long weekend following Independance day has passed. Any such prolonged weekend proves a lucrative option for the film business. This year after a gap of more than three decades three Urdu films were screened. There were expectations as well as reservations about all these films regading the response of cine goers.

In Pakistan film producer/distributor seldom announce the revenue earned from their films. Few websites collect such data from various multiplexes, and this report is majorly based on the stats shared by www.boxofficedetail.com.

On 14th August four major films were screened which includes three Urdu films Shah, Moor, Dekh Magar Pyaar Se and one Bollywood movie Brothers.

Bollywood films – Brothers

Brothers a Bollywood movie was released on 13th August 2015 and has out-shined the rest of  the films in terms of revenue collection. Like any major Bollywood, it recieved a warm reception and the film is still running successfully in cinemas. Bollywood films are popular on both traditional single screen cinemas and newly built multiplexes. The film has collected about 4.7 crores from 14th August to 20th August and is still going strong.

Urdu films
On Eidul Fitr (just a month ago), two Urdu films Wrong Number and Bin Roye were screened which received positive response from the audience and are still successfully running in cinema houses. Another film Karachi Se Lahore released on 31st July is also doing good business.

Here are the details of three films released on 14th August 2015.

Dekh Magar Pyaar Se (دیکھ مگر پیار سے)

Dekh Magar Pyaar Se (DMPS) is the second Urdu film of Humaima Malick after a gap of four years, where her first film Bol in 2011 was a super hit winning her many awards and appreciation. The film is produced in Karachi, and shot in Lahore and London (UK). It is directed by famous commercials director Asad Ul Haq and style icon Hassan Sheharyar Yasin has worked as creative and fashion design director as well. Sikandar Rizvi, who runs Xanders a famous restaurant in Karachi has appeared as hero in this film.

DMPS is the only commercial film released on 14th August 2015 and thus was screened in both single screen cinemas and multiplexes. The opening of the film was satisfactory and it collected majority of its revenue on the first two days and advance bookings. However the feedback of the audience shared on social media websites was quite negative and it was also reflected in the business of the film. The story of the film was quite weak and uneven in pace. Occupencies in cinema halls fell sharply as soon the indpendence day weekend has passed, and the film has collected merely 2.2 crores from 14th August to 20th August. After one week of screening it is removed from most of the multiplexes.

Moor (مور)

Moor means mother in the Pashto Language. Moor is about corruption which badly impacted the railway system in the Pashtun Belt of the Balochistan province. It is produced in Karachi, and shot in Karachi and Pashtun Areas of the Balochistan province like Muslim Baagh and Zhob.

A serious film of independent nature, it is released only in multiplexes as response of such films in single screen cinemas has always been quite unsatisfactory. Generally films like Moor only get appreciation from the critics instead of masses. Same happened with Moor, the film recieved a positive response but as soon the indpendence day weekend passed its sales fell sharply. The film received good reviews from critics and the viewers alike, but it was not sufficient enough to save it from sinking. So far the film has collected only 85 lakhs from 14th August to 20th August. The film is removed from many multiplexes, or otherwise has limited shows. The advertised budget of Moor was about 5 crore, if true it is proving a great financial loss to the producer.

Shah (شاہ)

A biopic about the Hussain Shah, an Olympian boxer who won a bronze medal in boxing for Pakistan in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Shah mainly covers the professional life of Hussain Shah, his initial struggles, the final achievement and after come of his achievement.

The film has a limited budget of 1.7 crores provided by Bank Alfalah. Shah is majorly released in multiplexes, as such films are seldom welcomed at single screen cinemas. Like Moor, Shah was also well received on the weekend following the independence day but the occupencies reduced greatly in the following week. From 14th August to 20th August the film has earned 73 lakh. Considering its total budget it has recovered nearly half of its cost.

In a nutshell all the three Urdu films released on the independence day have not been much fruitful and their business has been below expectation. The one Bollywood film Brothers has earned as per expectation and despite the Independence day weekend, yet again an Indian Bollywood film has ruled the box office.

Interestingly the two Urdu films released on Eid Wrong Number and Bin Roye and another one Karachi Se Lahore (released on 31st July) continued their successful journey. These three films are still getting warm reception throughout the country.

“No Other Actor Is Promoting The Film As Enthusiastically As Hamza” – Hamayun Saeed

0

After Hamza Ali Abbasi’s status update in which he said, “I did not charge anything for this film since its a labour of love for my friends. But I will only be part of promotions if these 2 songs are taken out, otherwise I will refrain from it” while talking about his upcoming film Jawani Phir Nahi Aani one of the local newspapers got in touch with Hamayun Saeed to hear his side of the story. Hamayun Saeed has not only acted in the film but he is also one of the producers.

Quite surprisingly Hamayun Saeed found Hamza Ali Abbasi’s statement amusing and commented, “Won’t promote it? No other actor is promoting the film as enthusiastically as Hamza is!”

1

Hamza Ali Abbasi also changed his statement and said that he only wanted one scene edited in the songs in which 14 girls wearing bikinis are shown in the beach alongwith the leading males. Hamayun Saeed also talked about whether Hamza Ali Abbasi was being paid for the film or not. He said, “He hasn’t asked me for the money, yes that’s true. But he is being paid. I don’t know if he has already received payment because I haven’t checked with the accounts department but he will be paid the amount stated on the contract he signed.”

3

Hamayun Saeed also said that Hamza’s claim that he was not participating in the promotions were very wrong. He said, “The buzz that Hamza’s Facebook statuses have generated (he has nearly two-and-a-half million followers) has benefited the film tremendously in terms of publicity. Also, Hamza has been giving interviews so what exactly does he mean when he says he won’t promote the film?”

4

Hamayun Saeed said that it is unprofessional of Hamza Ali Abbasi to say things like this at this time when the film has wrapped up. He also said that Jawani Phir Nahi Aani is the kind of film the viewers will enjoy.
