Ishq Tamasha Episode 5 Review-Misunderstandings!

0

Misunderstandings have started developing and this episode was filled with them. Mirha’s chachi is striving hard to make things unbearable for her. She has played the character of a typical relative we can always see around us. As she knows Mirha is an orphan and no one will stand for her, she is using every trick in her pocket to make her life miserable. The Rishta scene showed how much she discriminates between Mirha and her own daughter. Her only motive right now is to get rid of Mirha so her only son would not marry her. Wahaj though tries to stan up for Mirha but he is not really capable of handling the situation. Consequently, chachi will try to create a gap between Mirha and Wahaj by making Mirha look like some kind of gold digger who is hawaon main.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 5 Review-Misunderstandings!

Rushna loves Mirha and is trying to make things better for her. But she is materialistic too and that is where things will go sour. The car number plate misunderstanding will happen in the next episode and she will mistake Mehrab for Arham. Mehrab who is shown to be the better-looking sibling will be an agreeable standard for Rushna. Though it is understandable that Arham was trying to impress Rushna with a huge car and all but he could still have sent her a photo after all the bills he has paid to impress her already but then we know the story wouldn’t move forward.

Mehrab is facing the same problem Rushna will face in the next episode. He was falling for Mirha but then the hospital encounter and the shopping centre encounter is making him think that Mirha is Meena, the girl his brother is obsessing over. The four leads will entangle in these misunderstandings and if that was not enough, the boys’ phupho is also not very approving of Arham’s choice.

Let’s see how things get better for Mirha and how Rushna will settle for the (apparently) less handsome brother!

Laal Ishq Episode 24 Review – Deadly

This was such a happening episode that it has to reviewed alone. From such a beautiful start to such a tragic ending, every scene was shot to perfection.. And finally love has claimed another life, this time a totally innocent one. How beautiful was Mahi as a bride and how happy to be free of that revenge laden, suffocating environment and how grateful at such acts of kindness by a total stranger whom she had a few days’ engagement with.

And then sadly her ancestory and their grudges caught up with her, but this time Mehrunnisa is not alone to be blamed. Everyone knew she is crazy and blood thirsty, and yet Punar threatened Jajji to send her back, and Jajji emotionally blackmailed Farhad and Farhad made her agree to go there, and then stupidly listened to her and let her go all by herself. All of these people loved Mahi, and all of them inadvertently pushed her to her tragic end. Dada ji knew that she was going to be killed by Mehrunnisa but he did nothing to stop her. It’s true that she has made a mistake in going at night, cheating to everybody and lying to her mother, but she had a right to her life, and they had forced her to the extent that this was her only option.

What disturbed me the most was perhaps Punaar’s dual standards. He felt he was justified to fall in love and even do court marriage with Rameen, but when it came to Mahi and Farhad,  he becomes so violent and aggressive at their court marriage. Hypocrisy at it’s peak. Taking back all the good words I had ever said about him. He is Mehrunnisa’s son, through and through. He thinks only his and his lover’s love have value, rest everyone else’s love can be switched on and off according to his suitability. This is what his mother does and this is what he is doing. I’m jut too sad that he played such a vital part in Mahi’s demise. The sister who postponed her love marriage so she could protect her brother’s life, who cried each time he got even slightly wounded, who was his biggest confidante and he will probably just bury her in the dark of the night in the next episode.

As always, it was a brilliantly shot episode with emotions raging high and everyone doing full justice to their characters, in every single way. From Zahid’s generosity to Mahi’s innocent happiness to Farhad’s sadness at having to drop her back, to Jajji’s fear of what might become of the situation, to Bali’s helplessness, to Mehrunnisa’s violence, to dada jee’s resignation of what is about to happen, it was an engrossing and thoroughly engaging episode. Not an easily digestible one, you just keep on thinking and thinking about what just happened.

There is an odd chance that Mehrunnisa did not kill Mahi and Farhad was just having a nightmare, but in all likelihood, it seems as if Mehrunnisa has truly finished the beautiful, happy and loving Mahi and all the gorgeousness that she carried in her heart…

Khamoshi Episode 25 Review-Blah!

0

Okay so let’s start is with something this episode deserves for its description. BLAH! There was so much screeching involve in this episode, my ears are still sensitive and near the edge of bleeding. We have seen girls fighting like mean cats over heroes in our dramas. There has been sister rivalry which we saw in Khamoshi too. Then we have seen the same stuff happening to a group of friends and yes, of course, the cousins. But Khamoshi now has a mother who screeches and fights over the boy she wanted to have for her daughter. The whole episode revolved around Nasreen’s antics and it was a misery to witness it.

The way Bee Jaan’s track has gone sour is a headache. She has become the orphaned child whom all the relatives mistreat. She was crying for FOOD! That scene was downright despicable. She was shown in the beginning as a woman with a lot of authority and composure. She was not getting any family time even before Arsala came into the picture but she was fine with it. But now she just keeps shouting for either the staff or Nasreen and Zubiya. Nasreen is making her life miserable and on the other hand, she is making sure that Zubiya becomes a complete obsessive psychopath. Zubiya’s Main Khobsuart Nahin Hoon is also very annoying because the track has not been covered at all in the drama that why she is having complexes and the girl they have cast is quite well made up and pretty which is not serving their story well.

Khamoshi Episode 25 Review-Blah!

Arsala’s blame games towards Shahram proved that at some level she has the Shehnazness and Naimaness in her. The way she blamed ke mere adhay maslay unki wajah se hain was downright absurd. Shahram has turned into a total damsel in distress who just does not know how to cope with any situation and consequently, everyone is insulting him which honestly speaking he deserves.

Guddu’s familiarity with Shahram was also sudden and seems like Sabir will be the person who will make Arsala agree to marry Shahram after all.

One thing I want to commend is the makers’ talent for making everyone a mazloom bahu regardless of their genders!

Noor ul Ain Episode 7 Review – Saathiya Remake!

Ohkay so, I am not sure what made the writer think that the viewers would choose to invest 20+ weeks in a drama when they’d be having an option of watching the same story in a span of a 2 & a half hours, yes I am talking about Saathiya. It is unfortunate that such a dream team came together to give the viewers a good drama but the writer couldn’t create or let’s say be original enough to write something magical which could blow the viewers away!

At least in Saathiya, Suhani’s character got away for being the way she was because in a film, no one cares for the depth but when you are watching a weekly drama, you really want the characters to have a personality. At first I thought that Khizar didn’t have any personality, he was just a rich kid with no direction in life, trying to break free from his mother’s golden cage but as the episodes passed, despite a strong first impression, Noor’s character has fallen flat on its face. Honestly speaking, Noor is not only plain & flat she is downright annoying because of her cluelessness. I remember when the drama began, Noor actually had a personality & we all could see why the drama was based on her character but as the episodes have passed, she has zero personality. I am sure if the stylists had tied 2 high ponytails for Noor, made her wear a frock, had given a lollipop in 1 hand & a teddy bear in another, no one would’ve bat an eyelid because that entire image would’ve gone perfectly with the clueless character that is sporting – a girl who has absolutely no idea what is happening in her life & most importantly why!

To be honest, when this episode began, I decided to catch up with my sisters & best friend on Whatsapp because at the back of my mind, I knew where the story was headed as I have seen Saathiya plenty of times to remember the story. To be honest, I was blown away by writer’s originality when he threw in that scenario where Sofie’s Devar showed his interest in getting married to Noor. How original yaar because Saathiya mai to aisa hua nahi tha!

Well, to be honest, after watching this episode, I could totally see why Ghazala was added in this story as a negative character. Usually in our dramas it is really hard for the writers to make the female leads look negative, therefore they add such characters who can take the blame & justify the wrongdoings of the heroines & this is exactly what the role of Ghazala is but you know what? I don’t find her negative at all, despite such a hard try from the writer, I will not hold her responsible for Noor’s meesna-pan. Noor is responsible for every single decision that she is taking. At least in Saathiya, Suhani owned her decision of going against her parents & getting married to Aadi but here, Noor is shown like that clueless toddler standing in the confectionary aisle unable to make up her mind as to which toffee she should pick but then again, I totally see Noor as the culprit & not Ghazala. Ghazala is just helping her but in reality, this is what Noor herself wants. Noor has decided to get married to Khizar by ignoring her parents’ wishes but the writer just wants Ghazala to take the blame for her. Ghazala might be persuading Noor but this is what she wants too. I found Noor annoying again that she has closed all the doors on her when it comes to communicating with her parents. Ever since Khizar’s mom visited her place, she has cooked khichri with Ghazala but has not even bothered talking to her parents about how she feels. Whatever she is doing especially with her parents is wrong because yes, they trusted her & there she is, shattering it just like that, why? Because she is clueless. It was funny how the writer tried to make her look all naik parveen where she was like ‘mera dil nahi maan raha, Ammi Abbu mere pe trust karte hain’ haan to dheet boring larki, ghar jao aur so jao, Nikkah na karo!

Anyways, I am sure those who will see this drama for what it is won’t have a hard time watching it, but while watching this episode especially, I couldn’t help comparing it to Saathiya, oh I think comparing is not the right word here, I was just reminded of the original story while watching this copy. Anyways, I will try that I don’t see Saathiya in Noor ul Ain next week but I am sure it won’t be easy. To be honest, I am not a fan of Noor’s character at this stage of the drama, hope that might change in the future when she will take charge of her life after getting married to a directionless, lost person like Khizar but right now, sorry not sorry, I ain’t a fan. Please share your thoughts!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Shayyad Last Episode Review – Beautiful!

I have to admit that sitting through this episode was tough because I wanted to skip everything else and move to the part where Hani and Saad were finally together! This last episode of Shayyad was emotional just like this drama as a whole and it was good to see Sadia Khan sporting a look which went well with Hani’s situation and her acting too was right on point tonight. In this episode however, the background score at times was so loud that the dialogues were barely audible. Also, the last scene of this episode would have been even better if Saad thanked Tania before she left. The scene covering how Saad finally met Hani and the meeting itself was covered perfectly. The way Tania stood by Saad all these years was truly endearing and the best part of this last episode.

A love story which was poignant, inspiring and meaningful, Shayyad was one of those very few dramas in recent times which didn’t drag at all. Although few of the episodes didn’t work for me because of the choppy editing but overall I highly recommend this drama to all those viewers out there who would want to watch a different love story which has a filmy feel but at the same time is really convincing.

This wasn’t the first time that Faiza Iftikhar gave her viewers an unforgettable male protagonist. Saad wasn’t perfect but he was passionate about the woman he loved and he had quite a few personality traits which made his character appealing. In fact his flaws made him a compelling protagonist who always kept you guessing.  Saad’s role was played brilliantly by Uzair Jaswal. The character growth was also covered convincingly and this aspect of the story was especially important since the story started from the time when Saad was only a teenager. Although the odds were always against Saad but he was never shown as someone who was a victim of circumstances. Saad’s character and Uzair Jaswal’s solid performance throughout was the highlight of this drama.

Shayyad Last Episode Review - Beautiful!

Hani’s character itself didn’t have the same appeal as Saad’s character but it was Hani who decided which turn Saad’s track will take by rejecting his love for her and ultimately by getting married. Saad was however never turned into a bechara, the viewers weren’t “forced” to feel for him but it was something which came naturally. The on-screen chemistry between Sadia Khan and Uzair Jaswal along with the beautiful manner in which their track was penned down made this love story relatable. This drama also had some of the most beautiful dialogues to its credit.

The background score and the beautiful poetry was used effectively in most of the episodes and the director Syed Ali Raza (Usama) gave this drama the right treatment. Except for a few episodes, the flashback scenes, especially the ones covering Saad and Hani’s childhood were translated on screen superbly. The supporting characters and their tracks were just as interesting as that of the leading characters. Tania’s progressive character was like a breath of fresh air and even Mahpara’s track held my interest completely in the last few weeks. Nauman Ijaz was phenomenal as Salar and even though he didn’t get a lot of screen time but every scene covering Salar’s track was written and executed faultlessly. Mahpara’s happy ending and Salar and Hani’s love story showed that you can fall in love at any age and if you truly love someone then age most certainly is only just a number!!

Shayyad is one of the very few plays which ended at the right time which is why it is going to be missed and remembered for all the right reasons. The ending couldn’t have been more gratifying but the preview of this last episode gave this ending away which wasn’t fair with the viewers. Unlike many other writers, Faiza Iftikhar didn’t wait until the last episode to wrap up all the tracks but only left the main track to be wrapped up in the last episode which is always a great idea.

I would like to thank all those talented and creative individuals who worked hard to make this drama a success. A special thanks to all those wonderful viewers who read the reviews every week and gave their feedback. It wouldn’t have been the same without you guys. Shayyad will be missed but thankfully we have Woh Mera Dil Tha to look forward to every Saturday now!

Do share your thoughts about this last episode, I would love to hear from you.

Zun Mureed Episode 4 Review – Highlighting Double Standards

This episode highlighted the double standards which are so rampant in our society that most often even women accept them as a norm and women are considered rebellious if they question them. This drama has a solid script, the writer made sure that the viewers were well acquainted with the characters and their circumstances before introducing the most important development in the story.

Tabbasum’s character has been etched-out brilliantly and the situations which led to the phone call to the police were covered convincingly. Tabbasum was already shown struggling with daily routine because she was expected to carry more burden than she could handle therefore when she heard Sajjad crack a joke about wanting another wife like her, she wasn’t very “understanding” or amused!! It is common for men to joke this way, so common that many of the jokes about married life usually revolve around second marriages and girlfriends but the fact is that a woman gets just as offended by such jokes as a man would! The writer put forward this important message aptly.

When Tabbasum said exactly what her husband did, all of a sudden his “ghairat” was at stake and he felt that he needed to do something to feel like he had an upper hand in this relationship and ended up doing something which he never even imagined he would do. He also didn’t expect that Tabbasum will do something so extreme to punish him. Tabbasum’s bhabhi’s role in this entire situation and the reactions of the people witnessing everything played a major role in making things worse. Sajjad has been constantly pressurized in the past 3 episodes as well to do something extreme to set his wife straight and this time around because his ego was hurt he succumbed to the pressure. One thing which doesn’t make a lot of sense is that if Bi Jaan can write accurately with a pen then why can’t she dial a number on the telephone or type a message? It is ironic how Bi Jaan is using the marker and board brought by her bahu to harm her in whichever way she can. Tabbasum gave her this board so that she won’t feel so frustrated and would have a way to vent out but this new mode of communication has been constantly used by Bi Jaan to show hatred for her bahu who does whatever she can to take care of her. On the other hand, she feels unconditional love for her son who won’t even leave a game of cricket match or lose his sleep to attend to his mother. Tabbasum’s reaction made perfect sense, her dialogues about why she felt she needed protection from her own husband were also spot on but Nadia Khan’s performance wasn’t as powerful as it should have been. Had she given a more powerful performance, these scenes could have been even more impactful.

Zun Mureed Episode 4 Review - Highlighting Double Standards

The reaction of the policeman who was incharge and the repercussions of this phone call were covered faultlessly. Since, this law is still new therefore every case is getting media attention, Tabbasum obviously didn’t see this coming, it remains to be seen what her course of action will be in the future. I think in the upcoming weeks we will see that passing a law in the parliament and making it work practically are two different things. Also, laws cannot change the way people think and at the end of the day any woman who goes to the police will eventually have to face a backlash from her family and the society. Omair Rana’s performance has been impressive throughout. Hina Bayat, Shamim Hilali, Aisha Gul and Khalid Anum’s realistic performances are the highlight of every episode. Nadia Khan however has failed to breathe life into her character. The only reason why Tabbasum’s character is easy to relate to is that it has been etched-out superbly and the director hasn’t over dramatized the important events.

“It’s easier to say these things to be a part of the bandwagon that agrees that women on TV are regressive,”

Speaking of the internet trolls she said,

“Trolling is last year but it is still there. It still exists. I deal with it all the time. But I then realise that these are nameless, faceless people who are bored, just sitting and talking about things. The more I feed them, the more they will grow. If you think I’m right or wrong, that is your opinion, I’ll do what I have to do.”

She further added,

“The harassment issue is not just in Pakistan, it is a global epidemic. How I see these trolls, and by the way I think trolling is so last year, it’s so passe. People need to go get on with the trend. They need to use their voice for something positive.”

There are days when we don’t really talk to each other on sets all day, but the moment we come on a scene together, we sort of know each other’s beats, which is lovely! It’s amazing that someone gets you and you get that person without really talking, you know.”

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 6 Review – Skillful Direction & Exceptional Performances

Many important questions were answered tonight and although the story overall is interesting, there were some developments in this episode which are difficult to relate to. The person incharge of choosing the cast did a splendid job since all the actors are well-suited for their roles but there are times when you feel like some of the characters haven’t been explored properly. The director Saife Hasan has executed every single horror scene perfectly which is why the horror element of this play never disappoints.

Rameez’s friend doesn’t only have knowledge about supernatural beings but is also very determined to solve this mystery – more determined than the residents of the house! This aspect of the story and Rameez’s attitude in particular tonight was the most unconvincing element of this track. Even after witnessing the terrible way in which his son was tortured by the spirit which had taken over Tasha, he remained unconvinced and still believed that Tasha had a mental illness! The identities of the spirits were revealed tonight and their back story was also shown. Neelo is Aziz Sahib’s step-sister who he always called a dayan and never got along with. Her mother Salima even after her death is still playing the role she was playing when she was alive – protecting her children. Although Neelo was Salima’s step daughter but she always loved her like her own which is why even now she listens to her. The back story gave a logical reason why Neelo came back to disrupt the peace in Aziz’s life and why she wants him to leave the house. The actor who played young Aziz’s role had a striking resemblance with the present day character which was truly brilliant.

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 6 Review - Skillful Direction & Exceptional Performances

The dayan and everything she does is scary without a doubt but after watching her as a living, breathing human tonight, you can’t help feeling for her. Until now, I always thought that Aziz was the victim in the story but it turns out that was not the case. I must say that for now the story of the supernatural beings is more interesting than that of the actual family because there are plenty of times when it isn’t easy relating to their reactions. After Aziz’s encounter with Neelo’s spirit tonight, he should be able to make a decision based on facts. So far, the women in the house are the only ones who are convinced that Tasha needs help from someone who can get rid of this spirit but the men have always been shown trying to find a more “logical” reason for everything even after everything they have seen.

The best part of this drama so far is the way it has been directed and acted out; the horror scenes in particular are always right on point. If this drama aired twice a week, it would have been even more enticing. All the scenes which covered how Tasha behaved when she was possessed by Neelo’s spirit was the highlight of this episode. Neelo and Salima’s story is heart warming and I am certain that there is more to it! The script has a few loopholes but it holds your interest and keeps you coming back for more.

Pukaar Episode 7 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode of Pukaar was interesting in some parts & ridiculous in others. I am sure everyone will know which were the ridiculous bits. The story is getting interesting especially the note at which this episode ended left me wanting to see more of it but I so wish they had cut down on these clownish characters that are Laali Ma & Zamani!

Samra found out that she was expecting & because her friend Aimen had warned her what her life would be like, Samra seemed concerned & tensed when she got the answer that she was looking for. Even Samra’s mother knew that her daughter was in deep trouble now.

I must say I liked the way Tashfeen & Samra bonded. Everything that Tashfeen said to Samra was so touching & emotional, she was right, now that Fahad was no more, she had no reasons to hold onto any grudge that she had against Samra. I had this feeling that Samra & Tashfeen will bond really well & I totally see that happening now. It was also good to see that Tashfeen had some soft corner for Samra & on humanitarian grounds, she felt for her because she could see how ignorant & irrational Laali was being with Samra.

I don’t think there would be anyone who’d take Laali seriously. Even though they tried to showcase how cold-hearted she is, she ended up looking like a caricature & a clown who has nothing better to do in life therefore she has assigned herself a duty of torturing Samra because she is this psychotic woman who is finding solace in someone else’s grief. Zamani & Laali both are obnoxious in my opinion & I can’t emphasize how off-putting Zamani’s character & the actor playing that role is!

Well, Sultan was done mourning the loss of Fahad & moved on pretty quickly. Sultan is quite a practical politician therefore he knew he had a golden chance to use Fahad’s death to further his chances of winning elections. Samra’s confrontation was quite nicely done, she just gave Sultan a piece of her mind but then again Sultan decided to use her feelings to turn it into an emotional blackmailing as he knew that using Samra’s name would guarantee him sympathy votes.

Well, finally Zahid Ahmed’s character got introduced. Sarang Darwesh seemed to be unfamiliar of Sultan but then Sultan introduced himself as his father. The preview suggested that Sarang’s mother won’t be oblivious of Sultan Asfand Yar Khan. It will be interesting to see how Sultan will try to bring Sarang into his life. Please share your thoughts.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Pakistani drama industry is blessed with exceptional actors who are not afraid to try new roles and enjoy what they do. These actors invest their time and energy into their projects, work really hard to give every role they play a realistic feel and make these roles memorable. So far this year we have seen many memorable performances by these actors which make it pretty clear that they are without a doubt in full form and are doing better than ever.

Here is a list of some unparalleled actors who are at the top of their game this year.

Sami Khan

Sami Khan has always given every role he has ever played his best but this year he got more recognition and love from the viewers than ever before because after a long time he worked with different production houses and was constantly experimenting with diverse roles. He breathed tangible life into some of the most difficult characters, made the most unlikeable characters appealing and continued to give one amazing performance after the other. It won’t be wrong to say that right now Sami Khan is the kind of actor who could be the sole reason why you tune into even those plays which don’t click with you. Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua, Rasm e Dunya, Aisi Hei Tanhai, Khudgarz and more recently Woh Mera Dil Tha are some of the plays in which Sami Khan mesmerized the viewers with his outstanding performances.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Nauman Ijaz

Nauman Ijaz is a powerhouse of talent who never fails to impress but there have been times when he has opted for projects which didn’t suit his exceptional acting skills. Lately however he has chosen to play some of the most unconventional roles and took this opportunity to prove his mettle as an extraordinary actor yet again. His effortless portrayal as a strict father who gradually underwent a drastic change overtime in drama serial Sang-e-Mar Mar impressed one and all but recently his character in drama serial in Dar Si Jati Hei Sila is unlike any other he has played in his entire career. Choosing to play a vile character like that of Joi must have been a tough choice for an actor who has almost always played charming roles in some capacity or the other yet Nauman Ijaz has put his heart and soul into this role and made it count! When an actor of his caliber decides to move out of his comfort zone decades after being part of the business, you know that he is still as passionate about acting as he was on day one. Nauman Ijaz is definitely at the top of his game right now.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Aamina Sheikh

Aamina Sheikh is one of those very few versatile actresses of our drama industry who know the exact treatment a character deserves. However in the past, Aamina hardly got any such drama where she could perform to her full potential even though she did the best she could but somehow the characters didn’t really give her a chance to make an impact. The way Aamina Sheikh has performed in Khudgarz has convinced every single viewer that she is a force to be reckoned with. The character that Aamina has played in Khudgarz allowed her to showcase the talent that she has when it comes to acting and it is because of her phenomenal performance, everyone was left heart broken when her character died in the drama. Aamina Sheikh has it in her to effortlessly and convincingly play such challenging characters and we hope she gets to play these kinds of roles in the future too.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Noor-ul-Hassan

There are very few actors in the industry who could be a perfect fit for some specific type of roles yet they simply refuse to be typecast. Noor-ul-Hassan is one such actor who has the perfect looks for being the decent older brother or a helpless father yet he simply refuses to be typecast! Although Noor-ul-Hassan’s acting skills have always been commendable but lately he has been more impressive than ever in different roles which show that he can seamlessly fit into any kind of character. Few of his recent dramas like Sammi, Meeras, Dar Si Jati Hei Sila and Aangan speak volumes of his credibility as a solid performer. In Sammi he played the role of a weak father but in Meeras he plays the role of a wicked man who couldn’t care less about anyone and in Aangan he plays the sensible older brother who speaks his mind yet is really caring with finesse. Noor-ul-Hassan made his presence felt recently more than he has ever before, he brought out the best (or worst) in his characters and won the hearts of the viewers.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Irsa Ghazal

Irsa Ghazal has become a household name over the years because she has given some stellar performances in the past. Irsa has always played serious and challenging roles and she most certainly has done justice to them all but she blew everyone away with her performance as Hajra in Aangan because no one could ever imagine that she could play a comic role of a Punjabi Bahu to perfection. Hajra’s character has turned out to be everyone’s favorite and needless to say, it is only and solely because of the fact that Irsa Ghazal has breathed life into it. Hajra’s character needed a specific sort of treatment and the way Irsa Ghazal has carried it out proves that she can excel at such humorous and comic roles too. We hope to see her playing such characters in the future because she has given everyone a taste of how perfect her performance can be in such setting as well.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Yumna Zaidi

Yumna Zaidi is one such actress from the younger lot who is not only extraordinarily talented but also doesn’t shy away from experimenting and trying something new every single time. Yumna happens to be one of those very few actors whose graph keeps on getting better and the she never really fails to leave a mark no matter which character gets assigned to her. In Dar Si Jati Hai Sila Yumna’s performance leaves the viewers spellbound and in Pukaar, she happens to be the only one doing full justice and drawing the attention of the viewers to the drama. Yumna Zaidi has raised the bar so high that the news of her upcoming projects excite the viewers as they know they are going to get a quality acting and performance by her.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Saman Ansari

The fact that Saman Ansari takes every project she chooses to be a part of really seriously is evident from her powerful performances in all the recent dramas she has been a part of. She always looks and acts the role and makes her characters come alive on screen. Not only this, every drama which she acted in this year has served a bigger purpose which we are sure wasn’t a coincidence. Her performances in dramas like Sammi, Ghairat, Khaani and Dar Si Jati Hei Sila were extraordinary although the roles she played in each of these dramas were completely different from each other. Saman Ansari has been giving the viewers a reason to tune into her dramas this year therefore this list would have been incomplete without her.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Mansha Pasha

Mansha Pasha has been in the industry for quite some while now but apart from a few dramas, she never really got a chance to shine through, but it is so good to see her doing so well lately because she not only has been acting well, she has been doing complete justice to the characters that are assigned to her. With such amazing performances in Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua, Aangan and Khudgarz, Mansha has proved that she will keep on pushing her boundaries and will now experiment with different characters. It is actually a delight to see Mansha trying something new lately because she is getting to showcase her caliber as an actor.

Actors Who Are At The Top Of Their Game

Iffat Omar

Iffat Omar Iffat Omar does very limited projects but whenever she graces the screens, she makes sure to give such performances which stay with the viewers for a long time. Iffat is one of those actors who believes in quality and not quantity, that is why she chooses very few projects every now and then. Iffat Omar has excelled as Laila in Aangan and in Noor ul Ain, her character of Ghazala is the only interesting bit in the otherwise one-dimensional and flat story. Iffat Omar is a very convincing and versatile actor and she has this undeniable screen presence which makes her performances a treat to watch and that is why, we would love to see more of her in the future as well because she chooses very different and unique roles.

Aangan Episode 20 Review – Super Sweet!

Ohkay so, now the story of Aangan is moving towards more serious issues that a family is faced with & how they all come together in order to find a solution to someone’s problem. I loved this episode again for the fact that while still giving us some light hearted moments, they conveyed other details & scenarios quite convincingly as well.

Afrah & Sadaan’s track has come to a standstill & there is nothing much in it apart from Afrah’s taunts directed towards Sadaan. I actually thought that may be in this episode Sadaan will once again speak to Hajra about Afrah but that didn’t happen. Shafiq decided to go back & it was interesting how he had this victim-mentality where he let everyone know how disappointed he was that no one bothered sending gifts for his children, while conveniently forgetting that he also came empty-handed. It is interesting to see how realistically they have painted a picture of how at times people turn cold towards their own family members after they make a life of their own in abroad. Shafiq is a clear cut example of how cold he has become because he has forgotten what it was like living with this big family where everyone came together for each other & got involved in everything to run the family smoothly. Since Shafiq has made a life of his own in Germany, for him only his wife & kids matter & that’s about it, that is why he clearly spoke about how he didn’t want to get involved in the family politics & didn’t want to do anything to improve the dynamics either. He just came as an outsider & wanted to stay that way, whereas on the other hand if we look at Asim, Sajjad & to some extent Zahid, they all are always mindful of each other & the entire family!

Even though the focus of this episode was on something entirely different, I liked that it was highlighted how a newly wedded couple is usually invited for dinners. First Hajra spoke about it then Anila & then Zoya & Aqdas were seen attending a dinner hosted by Aqdas’s relatives too. Even though it was a very small scene but it rightly pointed out the things married girls get to hear, about their dressing, about their age & so many other things as well. Even though Zoya is shown to be a bit older to Aqdas but in general, newly wedded girls in our society are put under a lot of scrutiny & are judged over minute details which was shown convincingly in such a small scene.

Well, everyone came together to finally address the void in Laila & Asim’s life. It was sweet that Abba Jee & Zaitoon Bano in stead of ordering Zahid & Rubina, put forth a request & tried to put things into perspective. Laila felt they were trying to get Asim remarried but she was pleasantly surprised when she got to know that whatever was being said was in her favor & not against her.

Laila agreed but Asim was hesitant. I liked how maturely Asim tried to show Laila the other side of the picture too where he dreaded Laila getting judged by Rubina but then seeing Laila’s confidence in herself forced him to just accept & respect her wishes. Despite Zahid not wanting to, Rubina went ahead & accepted Abba Jee’s request. Rubina has her reasons & even though she tried to tell Zahid what she feels, I felt it definitely had a lot more to do with Zahid’s nature & lack of responsibility to provide for his family. Rubina did say that she wanted to do something that would give her an upper-hand on Laila but I am sure in reality, she just didn’t want any more favors from Sajjad & Hajra because she has seen that Zahid is not in a mood to bring any change in himself!

Even though Zahid comes across as a bit aloof to everything else but it was sweet how he shared the dreams that he had for his child. Though Zahid might not be an ideal husband but when it comes to being a father, he surely cares. I loved the conversation where both Abba Jee & Zaitoon shared their perspectives regarding a child becoming Hafiz e Quran, even though they both had a different thought process but it was positive & was meant to guide as well as appreciate Zahid. I must say, the scene where Rubina packed baby’s belongings was very sweet, even though being a mother the thought of giving her child away was already quite hard for her to accept but still she knows that she took that decision for her child’s better future.

I really really hope that the secret that Asim & Zahid are hiding is not related to Zahid’s 2nd marriage, like there were a few talks about that happening in the preview of the next episode but I so wish that doesn’t turn out to be the case because Zahid’s character already gets a lot of hate, where people just see him as a hypocrite & irresponsible person so I really wish he doesn’t do anything of that sort which will turn him into a villain because for me he is not a negative character, he just lacks some sense of responsibility especially towards his wife. I really hope & I am sure that Zahid will change but I once again say that I hope he doesn’t have a 2nd wife because it will give everyone a reason to hate him. I must say I had a good laugh at the conversation that Hajra & Zaitoon had about Asim being scared of Laila. Also, the opinion Allauddin had about Rubina was so funny. The way Zaitoon reminded Abba Jee that he was feeling sad not because of Zoya but because of Bilqees was amusing too. It’s things like these that make this drama such a perfect & complete family entertainment package. Absolutely love it. Please share your thoughts.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 20 Review – Relevant!

This was another brilliant episode of Dar Si Jati Hei Sila. Nadia’s character is turning out to be one of the most significant characters in this drama for many reasons. Apart from giving a different perspective to everything, she also adds some lighthearted moment to a drama which is essentially dark. Nadia’s “billi se daro gay tu wo sher ban jaye gi.” dialogue aptly narrowed down the reason why Bari Apa controls everyone and everything Noor Manzil. This dialogue wasn’t only true for Bari Apa but also for Joi. The only reason why a man like Joi has been getting away with so much is that he has successfully managed to intimidate Sadia and Sila. Joi and Sadia’s conversation tonight also suggested that Sadia does whatever it takes to please Joi because that is the only way to save Sila. He often asks about Sila whenever she doesn’t do what he says – it seems like that is his way of threatening Sadia. Kiran Haq owns her role completely and never fails to impress. Nauman Ijaz has been beyond exceptional as Joi throughout and Saman Ansari is doing complete justice to a really difficult role. Every scene of this drama carries weight and is executed superbly.

In this episode Raheel was more eager than ever to find out what exactly was going on. He is an intelligent man who can tell that there is more to this especially because of the way Sadia is reacting to this entire situation. Sila’s dialogues in this episode when she told Raheel and Zaini what she went through and how she felt were brilliantly written. Yumna Zaidi’s remarkable performance and the way Zaini and Raheel’s reactions were covered made this scene impactful. Sila is a victim but like many other victims like her she feels that she is responsible for what happened to her because she couldn’t stop her abuser. She also feels this way because she constantly hears what a nice person Joi is and how flawed she is. This scene was extremely touching and it highlighted the plight of a victim perfectly.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 20 Review - Relevant!

Sadia conversation with Sila this time too revolved around convincing her to stay quiet since she really believes herself that it is the only way they will be “safe”. The biggest reason for this is that Hatim is Joi’s son therefore no matter what they tell anyone about Joi, ultimately she is the one who will be ridiculed and punished. The fact that Nadia isn’t expecting also raises a lot of questions about whether Hatim really is Joi’s son but somehow Sadia is convinced that he is. Although Joi has convinced Sadia that she is the only one who will have to bear the brunt if their secret ever comes out but his reaction every time he hears someone coming suggests something different. Joi is a completely different person with Nadia because he knows he cannot dominate her the way he does with Sadia and Sila. I have a feeling that Nadia will play a positive role in this entire situation because so far she has been shown as someone who is honest and fair.

Raheel is gradually getting closer to the truth and I am waiting to find out what he is going to do once he finds out what is happening. Tonight, he also made sure that Nadia knew Joi couldn’t be trusted. While Zaini’s mother is still planning her daughter’s wedding, the preview of the next episode suggested that Zaini might have other plans. Hatim and Sila’s scene together in this episode as well was short but really touching. Hatim’s love for Sila is unconditional and even though Sila is trying her best to change the way she feels about Hatim, the fact is that she loves him as well and nothing can change that.

The preview of the next episode showed Nadia confronting Bari Apa and saying exactly what needed to be said! Joi once again harassed Sila – will she be able to take a stand for herself this time? This drama shows how very often a little courage goes a long way.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode. Do share your thoughts about it.

Tabeer Episode 5 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode of Tabeer was basic but in great detail it showed how life without Zarnish & Yasir was for Fawad & Tabeer.

Zarnish passed away after giving birth to a baby boy & Fawad’s life turned upside down. For the first time it was good to see Fawad’s mother taking an initiative in taking care of the new born & not only that, she genuinely seemed worried for his well being as well. Fawad tried the best to cope up with the loss but his mind automatically got diverted to his child & his needs.

Tabeer also missed Yasir but she knew that she had to take care of her son but then every single moment, she was reminded of how difficult things are going to be without Yasir. Yasir at least took care of his family in the best way possible when he was alive, that is why he made sure that he paid off the house loan so that Daadi & Tabeer could live peacefully but unfortunately, Ajju found out about it & because he is so money-hungry, he won’t miss a chance to grab it as soon as he can!

Sana came a little too late to see Zarnish only to find out that she passed away. Sana contacted Fawad to convey her condolences but also reminded him that he now has a bigger responsibility in the form of his son. Zarnish’s parents & their involvement in this entire matter was quite bizarre. It seemed as if Zarnish’s mother was never angry at her daughter but then she didn’t keep in touch with her either. Also, it was unconvincing that even after getting alerted from the doctors that the chances of Zarnish’s survival are slim, Fawad didn’t do anything to inform her mother especially. Even though Fawad contacted Zarnish’s father but still he should have let her mother know before anyone else.

Overall, it was a decent episode. This drama qualifies as a guilty pleasure but considering the depressing start that it has had, I can totally see why people might not want to tune to it as much. It looks like Tabeer & Daadi will be forced out of their home & I am sure Tabeer will become a foster mother to Fawad’s son, let’s see how things roll. Please share your thoughts.

Khudgarz Episode 22 Review – Tragic!

I’m sure no one saw this coming. A few weeks into this drama, quite a lot of viewers started commenting about Junaid’s death but I am sure no one could’ve predicted this about Aairah. This drama took sadness to another level & I am sure this episode must have left quite a lot of viewers heavy hearted too!

This episode focused on how everyone’s life was functioning without Junaid. Munawwar was just depressed because he couldn’t stop thinking about how things went wrong & how he couldn’t do anything to make them right. With every passing moment, Munawwar was reminded of how hard life was going to be because the guilt kept on bringing him down. With Junaid’s death, Munawwar changed as he was forced to re-evaluate what was important in life & he realized that it was high time he reciprocated the love with which Salma treated him all her life. Munawwar not only accepted but admitted that he was a weak man & because Salma’s submissiveness made him feel superior, he always oppressed her.

Munawwar finally got the cheque from the insurance company & all he could think of was how meaningless this amount was because it could never bring back his happiness; both of his sons. Munawwar didn’t have the courage to face Aairah or hold Dua because he held himself responsible for whatever Aairah was going through but because Salma encouraged him, he finally embraced his granddaughter.

Aamir was concerned for Aairah but then again Salma was right, Aairah could never be happy living away from a place where she spent her life with Junaid. Aairah was struggling, she couldn’t cope up with the fact that Junaid was no more. A psychiatrist who did so well professionally was becoming emotionally weak with each passing moment because people around her blamed her for being too happy with her husband. Junaid was her only safety blanket, her only comfort zone & now when he was no more, she just couldn’t stop herself from resorting to those pills which were acting like a slow poison. Aairah knew that after her, Dua won’t be left alone because she will find a mother, a sister, a friend in Abeer & that is exactly what happened. After Aairah passed away, Abeer decided to take care of Dua but despite Munawwar not being in its favor, Salma allowed Abeer. Salma knows that no matter what, Dua will need a mother & a father in her life, which was a space that both she & Munawwar won’t be able to fill.

Finally, Hassan came back only to find out that Aairah was no more. Hassan will now try to do everything to prove his love to Junaid by taking care of Dua but he will now understand how hard it is to he parted with someone you love after Abeer will take Dua away from him.

This episode was realistic & convincing & because of that, it was pretty depressing. Life surely is unpredictable & it is only because of ego, people end up ruining other’s lives & then spend the rest of theirs in regret. While watching Munawwar feeling guilty, all I could think of was how different things would have been if Munawwar hadn’t treated Junaid the way he did, sigh! Please share your thoughts.

First Look Of ‘Motorcycle Girl’ Is HERE!

After much anticipation Sohai Ali Abro’s ‘Motorcycle Girl’ is here with it’s first poster and it is definitely promising. Directed by Adnan Sarwar, the film will also stars other big guns such as Samina Peerzada and Sarmad Khoosat.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bgg2yYGhqBa/?taken-by=sohaialiabroofficial

Motorcycle Girl is based on the real life story of Zenith Irfan, who is the first Pakistani female to have made a solo journey through the northern regions of the country.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BfoJoYjnFk-/?taken-by=zenithirfan

Zenith’s multiple bike journeys, through areas “where it’s taboo for women to venture out unaccompanied, let alone riding solo on two wheels,” have attracted worldwide attention and been covered by publications such as CNN, New York Times and Vice etc.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Be8b9HElbxB/?taken-by=zenithirfan

Sohai shared that it was an absolute honour to play Zenith.

“The role of this incredible, empowered female is one that I can relate to and is close to my heart. I have always believed in the liberating power of our women, especially considering the taboos we face in our society. I am really happy that a lot of young girls would be able to look up to me for doing something positive and inspiring,”

To prepare for her role, Sohai also learnt how to ride a motorcycle and was reportedly making the same journey from Lahore to the majestic Khanjarab Pass that Zenith undertook in 2015.

The movie is set to hit big screens nationwide on April 20th, 2018. We hope it does wonders.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 1-4 Review – Good Start!

Director: Danish Nawaz

Writer: Misbah Nosheen

Cast: Junaid Khan, Aiman Khan, Faizan Khawaja, Kinza Hashmi, Saba Faisal and Furqan Qureshi.

Ishq Tamasha is directed by Danish Nawaz which attracted me to give it a try in the first place. His Sunn Yaara was very good and Ishq Tamasha has also started well. Ishq Tamasha is the story of two couples. The leading ladies belong to a middle-class family. Mirha (Aiman Khan) is an orphan and she lives with her Chachi who is Rushna’s (Kinza Hashmi) mother. Rushna is a happy go lucky spirit. She seems a bit greedy and judgmental as well. She lies a lot too. All she cares about are good clothes, good food and anything with a tag of expensive. Mirha, on the other hand, is the hated orphan who has to do all chores and getting blamed for every wrong thing is also one of her many duties. Chachi hates her because her only abroad wala beta Wahaj wants to marry Mirha.

Ishq Tamasha Episode 1-4 Review - Good Start!

The other family is in total contrast to Mirha and Rushna’s. Arham (Faizan Khawaja) and Mehrab (Junaid Khan) belong to a very rich family. Mehrab handles all the business while Arham only spends money on stupid things and getting the girl.

With four episodes down, the paths have crossed of the above four. Arham has fallen in love with Rushna at first sight. He is ending him ridiculously expensive gifts and is making Mehrab pay for them. Rushna is being her greedy self and when her mother gets to know about anything, she always easily blames it on Mirha thus making life more miserable for her. Mirha is shown as more of a realistic and less of a bechari. She knows there is no one to help her and therefore always tries to avoid problems. But Rushna is there to make her life hell which she is stupidly allowing. She met Mehrab two times and both very dramatically but from the last episode, it seems like Mehrab mistook Mirha for the girl Arham wants to marry.

One thing which I am kind of disliking up till now are the CHEESY phone conversations between Arham and Rushna. They are a bit much to tolerate but the overall story is good. Ishq Tamasha is off to a good start with nice characterization and a good pace. The story is edited well too with not many extra scenes. With a good start let’s see how Ishq Tamasha moves forward and hope it does not become an extra stretchable chewing gum!

Armeena Khan Joins HRF To Help Syrian Refugees

Armeena Khan shows no coyness when it comes to being vocal about her political views. The Janaan starlet was previously seen supporting Syria on her social media and now she has joined hands with Human Relief Foundation to help Syrian refugees.

The actress took to her twitter and said,

“Alhamdullilah! We managed to fundraise this much for the #victims in #Syria. The @HumanReliefFoun team flew to #Jordan yesterday with your generous donations. You will see your money at work.”

True to her word, the Janaan starlet recently shared a video on Twitter, in which the foundation has put the donations to good use.

She wrote,

Laal Ishq Episodes 20-23 Review – Still Going Strong

These four episodes of Laal Ishq have taken the drama forward in huge steps and all of them equally engaging, intriguing and yet all the more complicated. For Ansa Mehrunnisa aka one woman army of Laal Ishq, things are downhill since the day she has found out the identity of Farhad and Rameen. First her world came crashing down when she got to know that she had unknowingly engaged her daughter to the man’s daughter whose blood she is thirsty for. Secondly, to her utter dismay, her strength, Mehr Punaar has fallen in love with Bali’s daughter. That makes him leave Bali unharmed not once but twice because of the love that he has for her. The first time, mamoo Munir tried to do his job but Punaar stopped him the middle, which made Bali hurt and hospitalized but not fatally. This was so difficult for Mehrunnisa to grasp that she lost all senses in anger. Her effect was so much on Punaar that he agreed not to leave Bali alive the next time he finds him. He even denies his love for Rameen but she is not going to let him go that easily. She reached the restaurant unexpectedly when he and Farhad were meeting and created a huge scene which ultimately made his brother realise that she had also fallen in love.

Mehr Punar is shown very realistically confused. He has been brought up and raised in a way that his sole reason for existence was to take revenge for Hukum’s murder. Now that he has discovered romantic feelings for Rameen, he doesn’t know how to deal with them. He can’t dissociate her identity of being Bali’s daughter away from her and that makes him swing between a love hate pendulum for her. Aabi Khan has consistently been a star in all four episodes.

Farhad is also just amazing as the calm and controlled one. It’s lovely to see all four youngsters with individual personalities and temperaments being so wonderfully played and acted out. Amongst the terribly emotional Punaar and Mahi and Rameen, Farhad is an oasis of calm and thoughtfulness. He is strong but gentle unlike Punar who is gentle at heart but doesn’t quite know how to control his temperament and all that’s expected out of him. That’s understandable though, since they have been raised by totally opposite individuals and they have the characteristics of their parents in them.

Ansa Mehrunnisa has crossed all limits now and went to the extent of putting metal locks in Mahi’s feet to keep an eye on her all the time. Mahi has suffered so much at the hand of her mother, that she has started requesting Farhad to do court marriage with her, which he is almost willing to do but not quite. Mehrunnisa has even shot one of her maids and injured another one because she saw her helping Mahi in talking to Farhad.

The next time Punar and Munir have gone to kill Bali, Rameen comes in front of his father and Punar is helpless in love. He simply shoots at Bali’s feet and this time mamoo Munir also stops and follows Punar home.

Laal Ishq Episodes 20-23 Review - Still Going Strong

On seeing that she is losing a battle, Mehrunnisa gets Mahi engaged and insults Jajji and Rameen when they come to request her for Mahi’s hand. Jajji and Farhad seems to be the only two who are feeling everything, hence they have that tragic expression all the time. The others, including Bali himslef are an example of if you think, life is a comedy. Despite their trials, they still see humor in all of it and that makes Laal Ishq a very interesting watch in an otherwise sad story.

It was very refreshing to see Zahid’s entry as such a good human being. Just by being egngaged to Mahi and that too wrongfully, he fully listens to her and wants to help her. He is such a positive character. Now that Mahi and Farhad are all set to elope secretly with Zahid’s help, Rameen tries to take Punar into confidence but he becomes Mehrunnisa’s son once again and gets really angry at the suggestion of Mahi and Farhad’s court marriage.

The two stars of the episodes were again Mamoo Munir and Mehr Chiragh. Mamoo Munir is such a fun character that I actually look forward to his scenes. Simply amazing…

Recent Patients Of “Draggiya”!

Whether one watches it or not, everybody knows about the dramatic drum rolling dramas of our neighbouring country. The most important fact about them is: “They never end”. There will be a little girl and then you will be watching her grandchildren’s love stories after 15 years or so. The only reason for this torture is, yeah you guessed it right, TRPs!!! Pakistani dramas are loved by millions all over the world. They are short, simple and to the point with no dhol dhamakay and repetitive dishoom dishoom sequences. But lately, our dramas are becoming infected with a disease called “Draggiya”. The primary cause of the disease is the desire for ragging TRP and the symptoms include dragging a good story to a point that the viewers start crying to see the last episode. Here are some recent victims of this deadly disease:

Alif Allah Aur Insaan:

Recent Patients Of "Draggiya"!

I LOVED IT! I even watched some episodes on repeat ( yes I admit) but then it got infected and it was undoubtedly one of the saddest moment of my drama watching life. Alif Allah Aur Insaan had an incredible story. It showed off some most powerful characters of the season, Sana Fakhar, Ushna Shah and Imran Ashraf made Alif Allah Aur Insaan incredibly impactful. After a long time, I liked Mikaal too in a drama. But soon the happy days were over. Zimal took over the whole drama and all left in a story about love and divinity was how many times can a girl marry and remarry for no reason at all. They forgot about everything and to me it was a ridiculous approach towards marriages too, the only thing they were showing. The once great later poor drama met its final fate after 41 long, painful and torture filled episodes.

Khamoshi:

Recent Patients Of "Draggiya"!

This is the most infected on-air project right now on television. It is a simple story about a girl being emotionally and financially exploited by her family. She loses her family, the love of her life and her home in the process of making money for her greedy parents and siblings. Yeah, that’s it! The story is quite simple and there are no major twists and turns. The things I explained in two lines are going on and on for 24 episodes now but our Arsala (the lead character) is still suffering. And she will keep suffering because the drama is infected and no sufferer of Draggiya dies easily.

O Rangreza:

Recent Patients Of "Draggiya"!

This particular patient lived for 31 episodes. How painful was it for itself and all its viewers, well,  you all know that. What was O Rangreza about? This is a question I have been asking myself and has not been able to answer. There was a crazy Sassi, a crazy Tipu, a crazy Khayyam, a spineless Mamo, a spineless Qasim and three hundred stories woven into a single play. Still, this play had nominations in the LSAs and it had 31 episodes. Painful times are longer indeed!

Teri Raza:

Recent Patients Of "Draggiya"!

This was such a disaster that I am still not able to comprehend why Sanam Baloch chose it as her comeback project. It ridiculed the institution of marriage and the overall appearance of the drama was completely absurd. With a weak cast, weak performances and a stupid to the level of infinity script, Teri Raza still had 31 episodes. From the beginning till the ending this show was already suffering from a lot of diseases. Draggiya on top of it destroyed it completely and it was a feat watching it for 31 weeks (I personally gravitated towards reading the reviews at the end lol).

Yakeen Ka Safar:

Recent Patients Of "Draggiya"!

This drama was a major hit after a long time. There was finally a couple people were obsessing over. Asfand and Zubiya became the stars and Ahad Raza Mir became the heartthrob of millions. This show had a spectacular story and some very nice characters. My personal favourite is still Daniyal. Despite being a very good drama, it also suffered from Draggiya though a mild case but it was a victim too. The episodes were dragging after Daniyal died and the Kharjista topic was also dragged a lot. The show which ended after 29 episodes could have been recently wrapped up in 22-24 episodes.

Recently, Hum is spreading the disease more as compared to other channels. Which other shows do you think should be a part of this list? Please share in comments!

Woh Mera Dil Tha Episode 1 Review – Refreshing!

Written by: Faiza Iftikhar
Directed by: Mohsin Ali
Produced by: Wajahat Rauf & Shazia Wajahat
Schedule: Every Saturday 9pm

Let me start by saying the no one writes love stories better than Faiza Iftikhar because her characters always have depth and variations, they are easy to connect to and are most often either likeable or unforgettable, the story is always free of clichés and is gripping as well as unpredictable. My number one reason for tuning into this show was that it has been written by Faiza Iftikhar, number two was that Sami Khan is playing the lead and number three was the production house. Sami Khan has given the viewers some of the most outstanding performances this year, he has been constantly experimenting and has been making his presence felt in every project he has worked in. Even when some of the dramas he was a part of this year didn’t have much to offer, Sami Khan continued to impress. His portrayals are always faultless and completely different from one another. Madiha Imam and Sami Khan make the perfect on-screen couple as well therefore especially after watching this episode I have high hopes that this will turn out to be another unforgettable love story.

This first episode opened with Naina (Madiha Imam) rushing out of the house to meet her boyfriend. The first conversation between Naina and her mother revealed a great deal about the family dynamics in the house. While Naina’s mother doesn’t like controlling her, her father is completely opposite. The introduction to Zaid’s (Sami Khan) character couldn’t have been more interesting since the entire scene suggested that Naina was Zaid’s girlfriend but the fact that she was actually going to meet Arham (Furqan Qureshi) came as a pleasant surprise since otherwise this entire situation wouldn’t have been easy to relate to. The bus scene was brilliantly directed and was really amusing. Zaid and Naina are cousins but there are some serious differences between the two families because of which they have to keep their feelings for each other secret and there are little chances that their parents will ever give them their blessings.

Woh Mera Dil Tha Episode 1 Review - Refreshing!

Tonight’s episode also covered the family ties in Arham and Zaid’s house. The fathers in all the households are more strict than the mothers. Zaid has big dreams and was shown complaining about the state of affairs in his house. Zaid is outspoken and anything but perfect which makes his character even more interesting.

This episode was entertaining, the pace and editing was perfect and the performances of the leading cast gave it the edge it needed. Madiha Imam looked beautiful and she completely owned her character. Furqan Qureshi fit in perfectly in Arham’s role and Sami Khan made sure that he translated Zaid’s crude personality accurately on screen. Sami Khan was definitely the star of the show tonight. The situations and the dialogues were right on point and they were executed superbly too because of this, the episode overall had a good flow. This first episode was also lighthearted although it seems like things will get serious as the story progresses.

How many of you watched the first episode of Woh Mera Dil Tha? Do share your thoughts about it.

Khamoshi Episode 24 Review-Low IQs Spotted!

0

Dragging it to hell beautifully explains the situation with Khamoshi. It is (maybe was) a good script which had the potential to hook people to the screens. But quantity is winning over quality lately and we saw another episode which is just not easy to understand. This episode has so many cringy scenes that the ones with Iqra Aziz crying over Atif seemed bearable. Arsala has proved to be a bad influence on Shahram as the boy has totally turned into a Khamosh Larka in every front of his life and has lost his backbone which he used to have in the initial episodes. The pretend and guess got too dragged today as now Arsala was getting an engagement ring over telling Bee Jaan the truth because apparently, Bee Jaan who puts up with all the tantrums of her own family is so faint of heart that she will not be able to tolerate little Arsala not getting married.

Khamoshi Episode 24 Review-Low IQs Spotted!

The sudden entry and reactions of Nasreen and company showed that either they have very very (very to the infinity) low IQs or they are suffering from some kind of obsessive disorder and need sudden treatment. She started yelling at Arsala, she insulted Shahram as well as Bee Jaan. She blamed Shahram to be a shallow person who has fallen for Arsala ka husn. Basit who seemed like a reasonable person in the start also played along and was stupidly rude towards a boy who had just paid for their luxury vacation. As for Zubiya she has the same Sara syndrome, Sara from Humsafar suffered from. Her bohat jald humara rishta hone wala tha was both absurd as well as surprising. Shahram’s reaction towards this crazy family was strange. He transformed into Arsala who just tolerates everything and doesn’t answer back.

Naima is still consistent with her problems as well as her mother who just has forgotten that she has two other kids too. Forget about Arsala, she doesn’t even care about Guddu. Sabir is still whining over what he has done to Arsala’s life and is also asking for forgiveness.

This drama had a decent script, good lead couple, an excellent negative Naima, in short, it had the potential to stand out but the makers have made it another Alif Allah Aur Insaan where you start wishing it to end. Ending today’s review with the hope that the show will end before Arsala ki Khamoshi is transformed into Bee Jaan ki Khamoshi!

Shayyad Episode 20 Review – Extremely Emotional

This was the kind of episode which keeps you glued to your television screen right from the get-go. There were some major character developments in this episode and a plot twist which changed everything. Tonight’s episode was full of emotional scenes and the kind of positivity which puts a smile on your face. The opening scene of this episode was powerful and after a long time the flashback scenes were used effectively. This scene was brilliantly written, acted out and directed. The change in Salar’s personality and his decision to set Hani free was convincing because in the previous episode he narrated the reasons for these shortcomings in his personality and for his violent nature in detail and ultimately he decided to set Hani free because he could see that she wasn’t scared of him any more.

It was however difficult to understand why he forgave his mother since she hadn’t changed in any way and the fact is that there wasn’t much she could do to change the way she reacted to different situations in the past. Nauman Ijaz’s performance tonight was exceptional and Sadia Khan also gave a steady performance. However, Sadia Khan’s failure to compromise on her styling and make-up definitely proves to be a distraction. The fact that Hani was wearing clothes different from the ones she was “rescued” in only three days after Salar left her couldn’t possibly go unnoticed. Such small distractions effect the continuity of the chain of events and make you wonder about aspects which are not even important!

Shayyad Episode 20 Review - Extremely Emotional

I love the way the power of dua has been shown in this drama throughout. Salma’s entry in this episode came as a complete surprise. The way she helped Hani and the manner in which her husband supported her was really touching. No one can understand the plight of a person who is desperately in love more than Salma therefore she will eventually help Saad find Hani. Until last week, it was difficult to predict how these two will finally get their happy ending but after tonight’s episode there are absolutely no hurdles in Saad and Hani’s way. In the previous episode Tania wanted to leave because she felt she wasn’t needed any more but she also changed her decision tonight. Tania’s support for Saad didn’t come as a surprise since her character has always been positive.

The background score was also used effectively tonight, with the exception of the scene in which Salar was talking to his mother. In rest of the scenes it fit in perfectly and added to the overall impact these scenes had. Once again Saad is hopelessly wishing that he will get his Hani back and this time around Hani too has realized her true feelings for Saad therefore the situation is completely different. Uzair Jaswal and Sadia Khan look great together on-screen, the chemistry that these two share along with the way their story has been written makes their love story one of my favorites. Just like every other episode of this play, this one too had some of the most beautiful dialogues and even the poetry in the background was spell-binding.

I will be watching this episode a few times again before the next one airs. Looking forward to a fantastic ending to a beautiful love story which had my undivided attention throughout.

Noor ul Ain Episode 6 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode took the story forward but in all honesty, as the episodes are passing by, my interest in the show is deteriorating whereas it should be the opposite in any given case. I remember a few episodes in, quite a lot of people started pointing out that the story of Noor ul Ain was lifted from Bollywood movie Saathiya & seeing this episode & the preview of the next episode further proved that point. It surely is not a bad drama but somehow it isn’t sitting well with me that such a dream team came together for such a mediocre story? (pulpjuiceandsmoothie.com) Even though the acting is spot on & the direction is perfect but the story lacks that charm & since it is so typical & predictable, it doesn’t excite my as a viewer to look forward to it every week!

Well, Ghazala continued to play her mind games. Noor’s mother actually tried to warn her but since she was being too nice, she couldn’t put her concerns through a bit more sternly. Noor’s mother while speaking to Qasim did say that Ghazala till date holds her responsible for whatever happened with Shumaila, which put things into perspective a bit more. Ghazala is taking so much of interest in Noor’s love life & is bent on bringing them together because she wants to somehow take revenge from Noor’s parents, especially her mother.

Noor has fallen in love with Khizar madly & that is why, she is unable to focus on anything around her. This love is taking a toll on Noor & she is clueless as to what she should do. To be honest, even though at first it seemed a bit interesting that Noor just fell for Khizar but now when the story has progressed, it somehow doesn’t seem convincing considering the sort of nature Noor has. Yes, they have tried to show that even a serious, focused & practical girl like Noor can blindly fall in love but since they have so many episodes to cover the story, it wouldn’t have hurt if they had added a little more depth into showing how & why Noor fell in love with Khizar so much!

I thought a wise girl like Noor would deal with this entire matter on her own, but to literally see her following the lead of Ghazala & her friend has taken away the charm from her character. Noor just looks like a child who doesn’t know what to do, like if she decided to be in love with Khizar despite seeing how her parents are opposing it, she should’ve had some sensibility to approach it her way too.

Ghazala continued to play her games & Noor kept on allowing her to do that. I really think Noor should’ve been a little alert after she found out that Ghazala spoke to Khizar posing to be Noor’s mom but then again, she trusts her a bit too much. Ghazala not only contacted Khizar but also tried to talk him into getting married to Noor without his mother’s consent. At least Khizar tried to talk to his mother but she didn’t budge but it seems that Noor has gone into this shell & she is not even considering talking to her parents!

The preview of the next episode suggested that both Noor & Khizar will get married on their own, hmmm Saathiya alert. Let’s see if there’s something else other than Saathiya in store for us. The team however scores full points for perfect acting & direction though. Please share your thoughts.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Films in March 2018

March the third month of the year 2018 has started. This month has one official holiday of Pakistan Day on 23th March which is falling on Friday thus making it a long weekend.

Apart from the Pakistan Day, the other notable event in this month is the Hindu colorful festival Holi, on which there is a provincial holiday in the province of Sindh.

The major sporting event of our country Pakistan Super League (PSL) which started in the end of February (22nd February 2018) will end with the final in Karachi on 25th March 2018. Usually film makers avoid a direct clash with any popular sporting event like this and perhaps for the very same reason no mainstream Urdu film is releasing this month till the end of the PSL. Even the long Pakistan Day weekend has not attracted any notable film maker.

March is the month in which Spring season is in full bloom in most parts of Pakistan. Such pleasant weather results in lots of cultural and other events. But surprisingly since 2013 with the resurgence of the Urdu cinema, the number of released films in this month are on lower side. The main reason for which is perhaps the PSL. Since 2013 no Urdu film released in March has proven successful. Last year only one Urdu film Raasta was released in the last week of March (31st March 2018) which proved dumb at the box office.

This year two Urdu films are releasing that too on the last two weekends of March where one is an animated film.

Tick Tock (ٹک ٹوک)

Tick Tock an animated film is the first Urdu film releasing in March 2018 on the Pakistan Day weekend on 23rd March 2018.

Animated film genre is relatively new concept for Urdu cinema. The first commercial animated film was 3 Bahadur in 2015 which proved successful. In 2016 its sequel 3 Bahadur The Revenge of Baba Balaam also proved successful.

Another animated film Allahyar and The Legend of Markhor relesaed in February 2018 also proved successful and is still running in the cinemas. To date all the three animated Urdu films have proved successful which provides a healthy indication towards the future of animated films. Though all these three films proved successful, these are also criticized for their weak scripts.

Tick Tock has voice over from the leading artists of our country Ghulam Mohiuddin, Ally Khan, Ahsan Khan and news anchor Maria Memon.

The script and the screenplay of the film is penned by Omair Alavi the seasoned film critic of our country. With such big name writing the script it certainly raises the expectation of a film with well crafted characters and impactful dialogs.

With a long Pakistan Day weekend and the sequence of successful run of the previously released animated films Tick Tock have many favorable factors coming its way. The only major challenge the film might face is the clash with the final matches of PSL which also fall on the Pakistan day weekend.

Cake (کیک)
Cake is the only mainstream Urdu film releasing in March. “Cake” a story about love, loss and passage of time. Cake is releasing on 30th March 2018 worldwide in Pakistan, Europe, North America, Middle East. The World Premiere of the film is scheduled in London in the mid of March

Cake is the story of a troubled family from interior Sindh having rifts in the siblings. It is one of the very few Urdu films shot in the interior Sindh as well based on a Sindhi family.

Sanam Saeed and Amna Sheikh appearing as sisters in this film, while Faris Khalid is their brother. Amna Sheikh is making a comeback on the big screen after a gap of four years where her last film was O21 in October 2014. Both Amna Sheikh and Sanam Saeed are well reputed performers of our country and together their presence in a film raises the expectations level.

Adnan Malik on his big screen debut is the main male protagonist in Cake. Meekal Zulfiqar is also appearing in a cameo/side role in his first Urdu film after a gap of almost 11 years where his last Urdu film was God Father back in 2007.

Muhammad Ahmad and Beo Zafar Rana are playing the supporting roles in the film. Beo Zafar Rana last appeared in Good Morning Karachi in 2013, so Cake is her comeback film too.

Cake is a family drama film a genre which does not have mass audience in Pakistan. Films of this genre normally only proves successful at posh area multiplexes of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad/Rawalpindi. However such films do attract the overseas audience of the Urdu films.

Zun Mureed Episode 3 Review – Highs and Lows!

Tonight’s episode of Zun Mureed focused a great deal on the issue of domestic violence from different perspectives; the role the society plays, the reason why men think they are entitled to do so and how such men react when they feel that the state’s intervention might stand in their way. This episode also gave further insight into all the main characters. Sajjad’s expectations from his wife and most importantly his failure to understand that none of this was Tabbsum’s responsibility yet she was bearing the burden because she wanted to help him in whatever way she could continues to be the main reason why Tabbasum is already being abused in a certain way. In the opening scene of tonight’s episode, Sajjad threatened to hit Tabbasum only because his sleep was disrupted. So far, he has been shown as someone who puts himself before everything else and although he claims that he doesn’t care what anyone says but he gets brainwashed too easily. Instead of understanding Tabbasum’s situation and helping her out, Sajjad blames her for everything that goes wrong. Omair Rana has been performing brilliantly, his acting is always effortless and right on point.

Tabbasum’s conversations tonight revolved around domestic violence in some way or the other. While she got really upset when a man at the butcher’s shop ignored the fact that she was first in line and the butcher too attended to him first, she fails to question how her own husband manipulates her on daily basis. Her conversations also showed once again just how sure she was that Sajjad would never hit her even after what he did primarily because he apologized. I liked the way the writer explained what kind of men hit women and termed them as individuals who were mentally sick. This was especially important because most often when a woman is domestically abused she is judged more than the person who her husband. Also, very often women stay silent because of this reason. This thinking is so rampant that there are also women who might feel that their husbands have the right to hit them because they provide for them and are superior to them.

Zun Mureed Episode 3 Review - Highs and Lows!

This drama shows how a man who values his wife is called a zun mureed and one who dominates her is a real man! Tabbasum’s mother in law never had a happy marriage therefore she doesn’t want to see her daughter in law enjoying the comforts of a healthy relationship hence she takes pleasure in her pain. While no one in the family can see what problems this woman faces on daily basis, they are not happy with the fact that her husband bought a car for her. Ironically Tabbasum might end up paying for this car herself too. Nadia Khan’s performance tonight was strictly okay, there were times when her expressions were over the top but overall so far her performance is far more realistic that it is in Aisi Hei Tanhai. The character has been etched-out really well and I hope that Nadia Khan will be able to do justice to it in the upcoming episodes as well.

Overall, this episode raised some important points but there were some scenes which could have been even more impactful if they were translated on screen more convincingly. The preview of the next episode definitely gave me a reason to tune into this drama next week too since I am waiting to find out what turn the story takes once Sajjad hits Tabbasum and she decides to go to the police.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode. Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.
