Baaghi Episode 3 Review – Highs & Lows!

This was another episode of Baaghi which showed Fauzia making plans to live a life which other girls around her could not even dream of. Fauzia Batool does not believe in limiting her dreams and plans because people around her expect her to act differently and this has to be one trait of her character which has been reinforced repeatedly in all these 3 episodes. Fauzia’s husband-to-be Sajjid has been shown as a characterless man who wants to “own” her more than anything else therefore Fauzia’s instincts in that particular aspect are absolutely right. Another reason why Fauzia does not want to get married to him is that she wants to marry someone who will give her the freedom to pursue her dreams of having a career in showbiz some day. Although Fauzia said multiple times in tonight’s episode that she was not going to allow anyone to touch her but when her brother hit her, there wasn’t much she could do about it. This incident however made her even more rebellious and as a consequence she decided to take matters in her own hand. Fauzia’s conversation with Abid showed she was only going to consider him as her future husband if he guaranteed that he will let her live her life, the way she wants to. Fauzia likes Abid too and probably thinks he is more liberal therefore she would much rather take a chance with him then let her brother and sister in law in particular make this decision for her. Fauzia trusts Abid more because she does not know yet that he is just as capable of lying as anyone else around her!

Baaghi Episode 3 Review - Highs & Lows!

In the opening scene Fauzia said to her mother that she did not want to get married because she wanted to study and her mother said, “bara prh liya hei tunay” but in another scene of the first episode when Fauzia was seeing her brother off to school she says to her mother, “wese kya tha agr mujhe bhi thora prha deti.” which basically showed that she never went to school! The incidents leading to Fauzia’s decision to elope with Abid were covered convincingly. Even though Saba Qamar’s performance is beyond brilliant but I don’t find myself looking forward to Fauzia’s journey perhaps because a lot of the main twists in the story were revealed not only in the promos but they are even shown in the beginning when the drama starts! The viewers know exactly what the outcome of this marriage will be although Abid seems like the perfect candidate right now. So far I feel that the writer is trying to show that had Fauzia been given the opportunity to educate herself and pursue those dreams which were unconventional but worth a shot then she might have had a very different life.

This episode was directed really well and all the actors are phenomenal in their respective roles. Nadia Afghan and Saba Qamar in particular have nailed their roles. The story however has nothing grand to offer which is why even with some spectacular performances you do not feel for the characters the way one would if the characters had more to offer. Although there are enough characters in the story but their tracks do not offer variety or novelty. This is going to be another drama which will highlight the double standards and hypocrisy of the society and so far there is nothing impressive about the situations or the characters that are being shown to highlight these issues. A lot of dialogues and situations in every episode show how the standards for men and women are different. The story moved forward with this episode and the preview of the next episode showed that Fauzia eloped with Abid on the day of their nikkah. Baaghi doesn’t really give you a lot to write about since the story is so far simple and the characters don’t have a lot of layers. Also, there is nothing exciting about the drama which would keep you at the edge of your seat.

How many of you watched this episode. Feel free to share your thoughts.

We have seen Meesha Shafi in various looks and avatars. From her usual boyish western style to going cultural for Coke Studio, Shafi has always impressed us with some different looks. However, her complete transformation for Khaadi’s ‘Main Bhi Pakistan Hoon’ campaign is something that is definitely jaw-dropping. Here is how Khaadi teased her look with the montage on Instagram:

Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai Episode 17 Review – Beautiful

This episode was simply epic. It was brilliantly executed and despite the age old theme of the drama, there is nothing boring or cliched about its scenes. There Is something about the story telling of this play that that it does not look built upon an old phenomenon. Rather, it is original, natural and absolutely flawless. It has come a long way and now it is one of the best dramas of the week. The characters are very realistic, the backdrops totally natural and the story is flowing from all sides very neatly.

What happened today was totally impressive. All the characters are slowly coming to their justified ends in a very thought out manner. Iqra’s shadi was perfect under the circumstances Naheed is in. The whole wedding scenerio was so real that not even a single shot seemed out of place. Even the dressing was given a lot of thought. With Iqra and Anum wearing similar joras which were quite simplistic, given the way they were contributing towards their sister’s marriage were perfect. Saima Noor is every bit the graceful and elegant mother and mother in law that was herself from the very start, due to which she could not bear her daughters grow up with the devastating effects of neglect and abuse in the name of their gender. She is true to her character from day one. Despite all her troubles, she is the rock her daughters have always leaned on.

Iqra was sure that their father must have gone on holidays to avoid attending her marriage and her logic made perfect sense even though  Sadiq was unaware of her wedding. Iqra got a very loving and sensible husband who was what she needed to restore her faith in men. Mehwish Qureshi was amazing in today’s episode. She blossomed under the tender gaze of her husband and you could see the transformation from the girl with a scared and haunted childhood to a woman who was secure in her husband’s love and loyalty.

Amber is her usual naughty self and Fareeha is also her usual fussy self. Anum, however is going through a turmoil. First, she gets to know about Dr Jawad’s wife that she cannot even check expiry dates before giving medicines to her children. Secondly, she was faced with a very tricky situation when she had to choose between her professional duties and  her long seated hatred for her father and his second family. Mariam Ansari was brilliant in showing the expressions of a hurt and devastated daughter whose father was standing right in front of her, so concerned for his retarded son and so indifferent to his daughters that he did not have a slight inkling that she could be his own flesh and blood. She was upset beyond words but did all that needed to be done. However, it seems that it will not sit right with hot headed Amber when she will get to know that Amber had been treating Anila’s and Sadiq’s son.

The play has taken a very interesting turn. Stay tuned to find out how he drama unfolds from here.

Zakham Episode 19 Review – Another Sister In Law From Hell

Episode 19 of Zakham today was mostly focused on the new entry Nuzhat, who is a new face. I could find her playing Madiha Imam’s bhabi in drama Saanp Seerhi but I could not find her name. She is a bit amateur in acting, especially when in the same shot as the naturally talented Madiha, but she has managed to convey the essence of her character appropriately. Takbeer is very unlucky when it comes to having sisters in law. One is getting jealous of her from afar and begrudging every happiness that comes Takbeer’s way and second has now entered in her household with evil aspirations for her.

Farhan is still his usual loyal and optimistic self and is too good himself to see the wrong behind other people’s intentions. Seeing Nuzhat’s disdain for little Fatima, he was rightly angered, but he still apologised for raising his voice. The irony of fate is that a gentleman like him got married to the vamp of a wife and his sister who is as nice as him also was dealt a very cruel blow in the form of Khawar. Speaking of whom, he is nowhere to be seen, with no clue as to what happened to him.

Khalida and her husband are launching a new campaign to find Khawar, this time to ensure that Takbeer doesn’t get a chance to remarry. Her husband talks sense in one episode and then becomes like Khawar and Khalida in the next. He supports Khalida while disagreeing with her at the same time. Don’t understand what he really wants.

Takbeer’s and Musa’s families are shown gravitating towords each other  in the nicest of ways.  She was very sweet in looking after Musa’s mother when he was away.  His mother was also very grateful of Takbeer’s efforts and care for her. Musa has started becoming hopeful and expressed his love when driving her home. Takbeer on the other hand is still haunted by all that happened to her and is too fearful to dream of new beginnings with Musa.  The scene where she was looking at Fatima and then remembering the feelings between her and Musa shows how torn she is at this point in her life.

Overall it was a good episode though not too fast paced but still moving forward. Things seem to be falling into place, except for Khawar’s mysterious disappearance.

Share you opinions about the episode please.

Transgender Model Rimal Ali is expected to make her cinematic debut with ‘Saath Din Mohabbat In’. The movie already stars Sheheryar Munawar and Mahira Khan in lead roles, while Ali will also be performing an item song alongside the former. (Alprazolam)

Transgender Model Rimal Ali To Appear In 'Saath Din Mohabbat In'

Rimal revealed the tale behind her being cast opposite Munawwar to shake a leg in a song. She said:

“I was approached for the movie by producer, Sanam Mehdi and I knew I had to do it. I can’t reveal the name of my character but what I can say is that I will be playing a transgender club dancer, which is why I also have a dance number in the movie. Sheheryar will also be performing with me in the song. We had a lot of fun during the shoot!”

Though the exact extent of Rimal’s role is unknown, it is good to see that Pakistani film industry is taking strides in a right direction. Let’s just wish that her role is appropriate and fulfilling to what she deserve.

Fakhr-e-Alam Makes A Comeback To Music With ‘Shikwa Pakistani’

Fakhr-e-Alam has decided to comeback to music after a very long time and has rapped his way through a new music video. With ‘Shikwa Pakistani,’ Alam has tried to pin the spirit of Pakistanis to whatever is happening around the country. It mustn’t be said that the song is hilarious and has been cinematographed in a very bone-tickling manner.

Coming to the song, it isn’t wrong to say that it has successfully managed to raise all the social and moral issues that are damaging the country. The beat is catchy, the music is good and the rap is also definitely a good effort. However, the execution of the video most prominently on Fakhr-e-Alam’s part looks forced. His action and dance moves are stiff and it seems that he is totally out of the young boyish character that he has to play and the charm that he is to play.

Fakhr-e-Alam Makes A Hilarious Comeback To Music With 'Shikwa Pakistani'

On the other hand, the song is a little bit dragged as per my taste. The monotony of the music could have been given some high’s and low’s alongside a good closing note.

Fakhr-e-Alam Makes A Hilarious Comeback To Music With 'Shikwa Pakistani'

But, nonetheless, it is Fakhr-e-Alam that had been concealed since a very long time. A warm welcome again to the music industry. What do you people have to say about this song? Do you think that he made a good decision to sing again?

Yakeen Ka Safar Episode 17 Review – Good Episode After Weeks!

Ohkay so, after quite some time it was a good episode of Yakeen Ka Safar. I am glad that we got to see some fresh faces & things moved forward, however the scenes involving the old characters could’ve been easily omitted out as they seemed unnecessary. The pace of the drama is still quite slow but considering it is going to be a 30 episode drama or may be more, it looks like the pace is always going to be an issue!

Well, Sheema continued to spew venom against Zubiya & Rehan had nothing to say than just to shut her up but even that didn’t make any difference. I am wondering seeing how easily Sheema moved on & how much hatred she displayed against Zubiya that too openly, why didn’t it occur to dim-wit Rehan that may be she was the one who threw Zubiya out of the house? Well it doesn’t make any difference as Rehan lacks sensibility because if he was blessed with some brains, he would’ve understood his wife & her nature ages ago!

It was good to see that Zubiya started looking for jobs immediately as she could feel that Farheen was feeling burden. Oh well, how stupid Mohsin could be? I found that dialogue that he said in Zubiya’s praise that too in front of Farheen unnecessary & now that I have watched this entire episode, I really don’t think it would’ve made any such difference if they hadn’t added this situation where Zubiya was insulted by Farheen just like that. Mohsin should’ve known better that this was no way of praising his cousin in front of his wife. They could’ve easily shown that Zubiya found out about the job opportunity in Asfand’s hospital through newspaper & she applied for it as she deemed it as an opportunity for growth in her career. Yes, Zubiya’s Khala wouldn’t have accepted that but then again, she was also mature enough to understand how important it would’ve been for Zubiya as she herself kept on telling her that she needs to apply for a job in bigger hospitals.

Coming to the confrontation scene, I found it way too long, boring & unnecessary & apart from that the entire episode was good. I didn’t feel a thing because I think I am done feeling for Zubiya & all the things that Farheen said didn’t make me sympathize with her character further. On the other hand it was good that she immediately decided to find another job which also provided her with an accommodation. What Farheen did turned into a joke because even after that confrontation, they showed that Zubiya took her sweet time in moving out because in the meantime Farheen left & she also came back but Zubiya was still there!

Anyways, looks like Asfand has had a complete change in personality, yes he has matured a lot but looks like the death of his brother & then getting ditched by Faryal that too when he needed her the most has made him cold-hearted & indifferent to all those happy & positive feelings that he was known for. Who would’ve thought that the same non-serious Asfand who loved having a good time would become famous for being strict, reserved & stern. I am interested to see if he will lighten up a bit in the episodes to come or not. For the first time, Usman also felt proud of Asfand as he always wanted him to excel in his field just like his brother Daniyal did. Asfand has isolated himself so may be some sort of reassurance from Usman’s side & then some sort of affection from or towards Zubiya might change him!

I liked the entire hospital scenario where Zubiya got selected & Asfand & Mrs. Shehroz had some reservations about her but Dr. Shehroz saw some potential in her. I think it was quite realistic how they showed that both Asfand & even Zubiya didn’t immediately recognize each other because that would’ve made things awkward for Zubiya & even before joining, she would’ve thought about quitting the job. I enjoyed seeing the new characters too. Dr. Haroon (Mani) is going to provide some comic relief in an otherwise heavy & way too serious drama therefore, he is a good addition. Also, the way the lady doctor told Zubiya her story went to show that this way Zubiya will learn that she is not the only one who is struggling & everyone has had their fair share of trials & tribulations in their lives. Not that I am complaining but this entire hospital/doctors scenario reminded me of Dhoop Kinare big time & Dr. Haroon reminded me of Sajid Hassan’s epic character from the same drama. I am definitely looking forward to Zubiya & Asfand’s journey together & on their own!

Overall, this episode was decent. I am glad that Sheema & Rehan are going to go out of the picture, unless the director chooses to linger their presence on by showing unnecessary scenes like the ones that were included in this episode. The new faces were so needed & were refreshing to see. Looks like Zubiya will have a tough time as Asfand would expect nothing but the best from her & she will have to prove herself – another reminder of Dhoop Kinare where Marina Khan & Rahat Kazmi had the similar kind of start but then Zoya’s character was quite loud & lively so it added more charm whereas Zubiya is subdued & reserved so I think she is only going to stay serious as she will be only focused on proving herself. For the first time in weeks, I am definitely looking forward to the next episode, please share your thoughts about this episode of Yakeen Ka Safar.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

The latest installment of Dhund wasn’t bad by any means, but I personally found myself bored. I guess this has a lot to do with the fact that I was expecting to find out more about Imran – his involvement in Neeni’s death and subsequent disappearance. This episode, however, had nothing to add to our knowledge of Imran, Arjumand or Neeni.

It’s nice to know that Maria has friends who are not among the dead and departed. In this episode, we follow Maria’s friend, Erum (Zhalay Sarhadi) who is struggling to move on from the death of her husband, Nomi (Nouman Masood). Nomi, not ready to accept that he no longer belongs to the world of the living, constantly tries to make his presence felt and communicate with Erum. What I liked about the previous tracks was that they had a certain depth to them; the one with Sania Saeed explored a strained mother-daughter relationship; last week’s track was a sharp commentary on religious and sectarian animosity and its heart-breaking consequences. In this episode, even though Erum’s friend, Kashif (struggling to break out of the friend zone) said something about Nomi being an abusive husband, this bit wasn’t explored in a way I’d have appreciated. I liked Maria Wasti’s acting in the scene where she tries to get Nomi to make peace with his death and let go of Erum, but overall, this track was boring and didn’t give me much to think about – quite unlike last week’s track.

I always enjoy watching Nasreen’s scenes – she makes me laugh – but her scenes with the driver were a pain to watch because the actor playing the driver was terrible! I wouldn’t have complained if he wasn’t given a considerable amount of screen time. I miss Nana Syed and would like to see him make an appearance in the next episode. I also hope that we learn more about Arjumand, Imran and Neeni next week.

Sorry for the late review – life kinda got in the way. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Teri Raza Episode 06 Review – Teri Raza Or Badshaghuni?

Oh well, finally Suhana got married & the hell broke loose then & there. This drama is so boring that the only way to get through its episode is if you have YouTube/Whatsapp handy because that what makes me sit through it & I enjoy the distraction more than I enjoy this drama itself because there’s nothing enjoyable in this drama in the first place so not sure why I am even bringing that word in the discussion here!?!

It is so amusing that even in the beginning stages of the drama the characters & the story is all over the place, it shows that forget about the director even the writer herself has no grip on the story. Also, in such initial stages them relying on flashbacks shows they don’t have much content in the first place. If my memory serves me right, just in last episode Suhana was speaking about ‘badshaguni’ but in this episode when Manzura used that word, Suhana asked her ‘tum ye nayi nayi batain kahan se lati ho’, err, hello gurl, she heard it from you in the first place. I really think Suhana’s character is the worst in the lot & the sad part is she is the central character, so she is going to get the most amount of coverage. Suhana was once again blaming her parents saying ‘inhon ne mere saath kya kiya’ but then again, someone needs to knock a walnut on her head to remind her that just in the last episode she was saying that she accepted Istikhara because she wanted to protect everyone from ‘badshaguni’ like (the concept that was alien to her in this episode) her Dadi, her parents & even Rameez.

So, this was Teri Raza’s 6th episode & it took me literally 6 weeks to figure out what Suhana is, she is basically a submissive-rebellious-damsel-in-distress, I know it’s a long one but since she is so twisted, I had to find some decent words to paint a picture of her personality & character correctly. Suhana is unique & one of its kind, because she would do everything to prevent her family & ex-boyfriend from badshaghuni but then she will blame them for being the reason why she wanted to protect them from badshaghuni, if that makes sense, yes I know it would but with difficulty since this is how difficult & twisted Suhana’s character is. Also, since there is so much badshaghuni happening in this drama & there’s so much focus on it, I am not sure why didn’t they name this drama ‘Badshaghuni’ in stead of ‘Teri Raza’ because the word Teri Raza hardly comes into the picture in comparison to how much Badshaghuni does!

Well, Paa Mmtyaz got married to Choti Suhana & it was amusing that even after getting married he was concerned whether she was ‘happy’ or not. Oh bhai, khush hoti to appke muh pe phone na bang karti but only if you’d understand but looks like Mmtyaz likes dissecting Anda & Omelette more than he would mind paying attention to the feelings & expressions of jeeta jaagta insaan, especially the one whom he was going to get married to. So, nothing new there, Suhana & Mmtyaz are poles apart, he likes his egg boiled whereas Suhana enjoys a messy omelette, oh such a big difference in their personality I wonder if they’re going to get divorced over their Anda preferences. Also yes, Suhana enjoys late night phone usage whereas Paa Mmtyaz can’t sleep if a mosquito enters his room, all the more reason to part ways I tell you!

Oh well, I am sure all the heart surgeons must be cringing so bad after this episode because this episode gave a blow to every aspiring heart-surgeon’s career. Dadi who was supposed to get a heart-surgery recovered & didn’t feel the need to go for one ever since she saw Suhana’s rukhsati. I mean who would’ve thought that the sight of seeing a Dulhan sitting in a car & getting Rukhsat with a ‘larka’ double her age could cure people’s hearts. Heart Surgeons spend years & invest so much of money into making themselves capable to heal people’s hearts but here, all it took was a mere Rukhsati, which took only a day & yes probably the same amount of money it takes to become a doctor/heart specialist. I told you guys that Dadis like these in our dramas are such a burden who only play the role of guilt-tripping the girl into getting married ASAP otherwise they a threatened that the writer might put a full stop in front of their character! LOL!

The conversation that Dadi & Talat had also had me rolling my eyes because it was so clichéd, like now all of a sudden Dadi was concerned about how her YOUNG Suhana will take responsibility of Sitara’s household so then, why didn’t she think about her age before getting her married? Like what was the rush? Also, Talat chose not to see her daughter because like a typical psychotic mother, she endorses the idea that now piya ka ghar is Suhana ka ghar & she has been freed from all of her motherly responsibilities because she got her daughter married, seriously! Talat takes the spot in the list of worst mothers with flying colors. Also, like what was the need for Talat to speak about Rameez with Zafar on Suhana’s Mehandi night? LOL! I told you guys, the story & the characters are out of order & everything/everyone is all over the place so I am sure the writer wasn’t bothered & so wasn’t the director!

Well, the last scene was such a plot twister *yawn* where boring budhi ruh Paa Mmtyaz overheard what Suhana was saying about him. I will be surprised if Paa Mmtyaz will be surprised to hear all these beautiful words about him because being a man of this age bracket, he should’ve known better that he was so not compatible to Suhana & wasn’t her ideal type. Oh well, we have a salty cousin too, who was desperate to get married to Paa Mmtyaz but Suhana took her place, I am sure once Suhana will leave Mmtyaz with salty wounds, that salty cousin will come bearing the balm to heal him heal! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Teri Raza/Badshaghuni & oh again, Sanam Baloch’s sweaty upper-lip…ugh!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
