The persistence shown by the director of the film Asheer Azeem is remarkable . He challenge the decision of federal Government in court and is reaping fruits today.
the major reason being told for the by the federal government is that an extremist Afghan character who was commemorated as a national hero in the movie.

Sajjad Ali Shah the SHC justice , along with another judge lifted the ban after listening to the arguments given by the director of the film. Therefore now Azher Azeem will be able to release the film nationwide.

Ek Thi Marium – Awe-Inspiring

Written by: Umera Ahmed

Directed By: Sarmad Sultan Khoosat

Produced By: Nina Kashif

Plane banana koi bari baat thori hai, plane urana bari baat hai …..This awe-inspiring short film summed up Marium Mukhtiar Shaheed’s inspirational story of courage and commitment in a very clear manner. Ek Thi Marium is a short film with some very strong and concise messages which were beautifully conveyed through different scenes and summed up flawlessly in the end. The opening scene of a short film or a drama says a great deal about what it has to offer. Therefore the powerful yet very subtle messages about how this passionate young lady was raised made it very clear right at the outset that this story will prove to be not only inspirational but also very emotional.

ETM

The opening scene showed that Marium was always an extraordinary girl even when she was little she liked to dream big and excelled in her school. She was fascinated by birds in the sky and wanted her name inscribed on her school uniform. Her father was her role-model and her mother was her strength. The support of her parents who always believed in her played a pivotal role in making Marium a fighter pilot. Even though Marium’s parents supported her but they also made sure that when Marium could do even better without their support, they took a backseat in her life. Marium’s relationship with her family, her reaction when she started her life as a cadet and minor details like the way she touched the jet for the first time made her character more human. There wasn’t an attempt to show Marium as a perfect human being, there was a time when she too was tempted to give up but once that phase was over Marium’s passion for flying never allowed her to pause again. Her time in the academy was covered in a very impressive manner. This short film managed to transfer me to another world which was very different from the one we live in!

etm1

Ek Thi Marium had some very strong messages which are the need of the hour. Marium’s true story has been intelligently used by the writer to send out positive messages. Lrke lrkiyo mei koi farq nahi hota aur mujhe tu meri lrkiya buhat pyari heinthis is the kind of thinking with which girls like Marium Mukhtiar are raised! Parents who have confidence in their daughters and value them allow them to grow as strong individuals who are capable of achieving something big in life, of doing something extraordinary.

Mere aur Mukhtiar ke liye tu hamari betiyan hi sona hein, bus parha likha ke unhe kundun bana dei gay – this was another apt and powerful message the significance of which was ten-fold because of the fact that this is the story of a girl who proved that parents who focus on their daughters’ education more than their dowry are the ones who raise daughters who are empowered and have high self-esteem.

etm2

Mujhe GD pilot banana hai….aur mujhe USA ka president!! – This was another meaningful scene which had a hidden message. It went to show that no dream is too big as long as you work hard to make these dreams come true. Many such scenes went to show that Marium was always gifted, she was special – the chosen one – who was destined to do something amazing.

Ab sari zindagi ghalt profession mein zayan krne se behtr nahi hai ke aik saal aap sahi profession ke liye zayan kr dein? This was another scene with yet another message for all the young people out there; follow your heart, if you know you are meant to do something else in life, give it at least one shot!

etm3

Sanam Baloch is a phenomenal actress who has always translated all of her characters on screen effortlessly. No other actress would have been able to breathe life into Marium’s character the way she did. The poignant lyrics of the OST which said a great deal about Marium’s journey and her personality added to the beauty of different scenes. The child star playing Marium also performed brilliantly. Behroze Sabzwari and Hina Bayat’s acting was equally impressive – there were times when I forgot I was watching a film because everything was so real! Ek Thi Marium also has strong supporting characters who managed to leave their mark even though some of them (like Marium’s fiancé) did not get a lot of screen time and all the actors playing these characters played their parts impeccably.

etm5

Ek Thi Marium is a remarkable short film which will give you goose bumps. It overflows with scenes and dialogues which are deep, meaningful, endearing and emotional. At a time when our dramas are not giving their female viewers a lot of positive role-models to look upto, Marium Mukhtiar’s story was truly uplifting and much needed. Also, airing this short film on the 6th of September was a very intelligent decision. This was the ideal time for showing a short film focusing on a determined girl who was very passionate about her goals for many reasons.

It has been a while since we watched something penned down by Umera Ahmed therefore it was an absolute pleasure watching a film written by her especially because it was right on point. The treatment given to this film by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat turned it into an art film. The director of photography Qasim Ali Mureed also deserves a special mention here because without him this film wouldn’t have been this perfect. It wasn’t over-dramatic and that was why the messages had more of an impact. The scene in which Marium’s jet crashes was shown very wisely. The entire team of Ek Thi Marium deserves standing ovation for a job well done. I hope that they will continue making these great films which serve a much bigger purpose.

etm4

Marium Mukhtiar Shaheed is not with us anymore but she has left a legacy which will be a source of inspiration for many girls out there. Also, we are blessed with amazing people like Marium Mukhtiar’s parents who raise daughters we are truly proud of. At the end of this short film I couldn’t help but wonder how much this beautiful, high-spirited girl would have achieved if she had lived!

Ek Thi Marium is a must-watch, I highly recommend it to everyone who has not watched it yet. Those of you who watched this beautiful inspirational short film, please do share your thoughts about it.

I found this video clip of Marium Mukhtiar’s mother’s thoughts on her daughter and her philosophy of life right after the crash. Her determination and philosophy of life is exemplary.

Besharam Episode 18 – Amazinnnggg!!

Ohkay so, like always, this episode of Besharam was interesting too & I am so glad that the director knows what he is doing because every time we expect things to blow out of proportion, the director lets us know the clarity he had in his mind about the script. Also, I will thank Sarwat Nazeer for writing this drama so brilliantly which is filled with nothing but positivity.

Honestly speaking, I never really thought that Qadeer will not only listen to Mishi so keenly but he will believe everything that she will tell him too. I thought that Qadeer will try to defend Saba & will choose not to listen to Mishi because of the opinions his parents had about her, but Qadeer proved that he is not only wise but different from his family too. He knew that everything that Mishi was saying couldn’t be a lie because how would her friend know about Saba, if Saba hadn’t walked into the studio herself for a photo-shoot. I must say, what I liked about the entire conversation was how Mishi tried to tell Qadeer that she wasn’t trying to infuriate him, but in stead, she was only trying to make him cautious so that Saba doesn’t commit more mistakes. I also liked how Qadeer thanked her because all the things that he heard shook his ground but he didn’t forget his manners.

Sara has pretty much accepted Haider wholeheartedly, but she is used to the idea of putting him down, that is why she once again told Mishi how she wasn’t happy that she was going home. I love how every single time Mishi tells her mother about all the positive aspects of her marriage & tries to make sure she doesn’t think much about the things that according to Sara must be negative, like Haider not having enough money or a lavish house. Haider has proved to Sara that he is not going anywhere & he is not only going to take care of Mishi, but he will be extending emotional & moral support to her too because the way he persuaded Mannan to come to Pakistan to meet his mother was another pleasant surprise.

Finally, Sikandar’s family learned the truth about what Saba did & how she was the one who took the amount to give it to the photographer. I loved how without beating around the bush, Qadeer told Saba that he found out what she did. Even though the reactions were natural & the way Shakira beat Saba out of sheer frustration was something that usually happens when girls cross the line, I knew that their decision of getting her married straight away will push Saba further away from all of them. Saba is immature & more than harsh reactions, she needs someone who can make her understand that she is wrong & also make her realize that she is only bringing a bad name to her family & herself as well.

Well, Haider, the hero that he is, saved the day again & brought Saba home. I was actually quite relieved to see how Sikandar not only admitted his mistakes but also realized that it was the karma that he was facing now. Also, the way Khadija found out about the Doctor being Amir Liaqat (meaning fake degree holder) was another positive message that the writer sent across. I love how the writer has brought the fact into the light that all you need is positivity & honesty in your life, because these are the only things that you need to shape your life up & one should try to stay away from scheming & plotting because what goes around comes around too. All this while, like all the parents, Sikandar & Shakira thought that they had an upper-hand because their kids were innocent & better than Khadija’s but the time told them that they were wrong & Khadija’s children were definitely better. I have always liked Sikandar for the fact that even though he is an opportunist & quite selfish, but he is honest in his own way, like he never supports his wife in saying anything bad about Haider & even after finding out about everything that Saba did, he regretted his decision of calling Qadeer & Humna’s relationship quits.

Quite often I come across a lot such comments where the viewers say that they derive lessons from Zara Yaad Kar & I also see them advocating that the writer of Zara Yaad Kar is giving out lessons about relationships but quite humbly, I put forth a request that if they want to derive some lessons from a drama, then it should be this drama; Besharam. This drama is filled with such positive messages in regards to all the relationships & also about how one should lead his life because where the writer showed us the hardships that Sikandar’s family faced because of their selfishness, the writer also showed us how Khadija’s family is at a happy place right now because they are far away from negativity & only believe in living their lives with honesty & simplicity. This drama also gives out a much needed message of how spouses should treat each other with respect & love, but also should give each other a time & space which is necessary to nourish a relationship. Mishi was a model & everyone judged her due to her choice of career, but the writer showed that if a girl finds her Mr. Right, who treats her with love & respect, she will go to any lengths to please him. This is exactly why Mishi & Haider’s relationship stands out the most because even though they react like normal couples do, they look like a unique couple on screen because we hardly get to see such pairs, thanks to our writers who are bent on showing these twisted people who have no respect for this sacred union called marriage. I thank Sarwat Nazeer for bringing us such an amazing drama which is free from all the clichés & is turning out to be a memorable journey.

Oh well, Wahab Sunyanra made an appearance & like everyone, I am his fan too, that’s why I enjoyed watching his scene as well. Wahab finally admitted that he did everything as he wanted his revenge from Haider, but I hope that he backtracks from it & Sofie makes him realize that Mishi is quite happy with him, so there’s no need for him to attack Haider financially. I am sure like all the things the writer & the director have taken care of, they will put an end to this animosity between Wahab & Haider too.

Overall, this episode was amazing & I loved watching it. No doubt when the episode of Besharam ends, it leaves me feeling positive but I also find myself happy while watching the episode as not only all the characters are amazing, but their conversations with each other & their reactions, everything seems very realistic & relate-able as well. I loved the conversation that Humna & Mishi had & also, the scenes between Mishi & Haider were like always, the best part about this episode too. I just love how the writer has written the character of Mishi, where only Haider’s love & attention is enough for her. I also love how the characters have evolved in this drama, where Khadija from being someone who disliked Mishi has turned into someone who can’t stop cherishing her presence in her life. Sikandar has evolved from being a selfish father to an understanding uncle who is now regretting everything that he did. Sara has also evolved from being that mother in law who disapproved of her son in law into someone who now acknowledges everything that Haider does. I am sure I have said it already but I just love love loveee everything about this drama. Saba Qamar looked very pretty throughout the episode but she had this innocence on her face in the scene where she is having a conversation with Humna after offering her prayers. Ah!!! I am feeling positive. Please share your thoughts about this amazing episode of Besharam. :)

On this Defence day the singer with strong vocals Umair Jaswal sang a very passionate song “FIZAON K MUHAFIZ”. The song is extremely patriotic and has four parts.

The first part of the song appreciates the role of air force in protecting the country . The second part of the song acknowledges the Anti-Shipping part performed by the PAF giving support to the Pakistan Navy operations. Where as the third part of the song highlights the part played by PAF in the operations being conducted in the northwest, In the last part tribute is given to the men of air force who protect the country.

Zara Maaf Kar Episode 26 – The Torture Continues!

I watched this episode in a hope that it will be the second last episode & things will start to wrap up but looks like that’s not going to be the case because the director has still not given up on the fact that this drama is making no sense at all. Talk about a drama being deprived of character development, character evolvement, purpose of the story, purpose of the conversations, in short everything! This drama is clearly past that stage where the writer could rely on the philosophical dialogues to keep the interest of the viewers alive but it looks like Amna Nawaz Khan is still not getting the point.

When we signed up to watch this drama, we were looking forward to the story of Mahnoor, Haadi & Uzma, & more than that we were looking forward to see the ending the character of Mahnoor will get, but ever since Amna Nawaz Khan took over as a writer, her confusion, her cluelessness & the loss of direction is seen all over this drama especially after the 20th episode mark. It is so obvious that Khalil ur Rehman Qamar wrote this drama while making the characters of Mahnoor, Haadi & Uzma the focal point of the story but when he decided to leave, Amna Nawaz Khan failed to understand his thought process & thought that she will be able to pull it off by continuing the drama as a writer, but she failed miserably & I repeat, she failed miserably. Amna Nawaz Khan all of a sudden brought the side characters of Anoushay, Anoushay’s Daadi, Gaiti, Mehtab, Aftab & Waqar in the limelight, while completely forgetting the fact that the story was never about them & it was about entirely different characters & the purpose of the drama was never to show the politics within the family of politicians or it was never to show how lifeless, spoiled & batameez an immature girl like Anoushay can be. Amna Nawaz Khan thought that she will be able to pull this drama off as a writer by pushing the main characters in the background but she was sadly mistaken!!!

Mahnoor spoke to Waqar & everytime I see Mahnoor making an attempt to arrange her temporary Nikkah makes me laugh out loud at her pathetic-ness & desperation. Mahnoor still fails to see that she is not a victim in this situation but just because Haadi lacks some backbone & Aneena’s mind is too tangled up in her own philosophy that both of them fail to knock some sense into her mind that it is not Mahnoor who is the victim here, in fact she has victimized everyone around her. Mahnoor conveniently blamed Haadi & even Aneesa for being rude & for not being considerate enough but then has she ever thought about the fact that what did she do when they were considerate & when they loved her? Haadi reacted like Haider for a second & I thought finally he has reached his limit & will make a decision now but his mind got diverted seeing the plate of confectioneries that he forget about all of his problems!

Uzma’s philosophy about love is firstly something that I don’t agree with & it was so lame that I rolled my eyes so hard that they’re hurting now. I don’t think I have ever rolled my eyes while watching any drama as much as I have done while watching Zara Yaad Kar because it is quite amusing & lame at the same time that the dialogue writer, whoever he or she may be has relied so much on the falsafa that even the falsafa itself is confused about the falsafa that it churns out. Time & again we are told that Haadi loves Mahnoor, that is why he is putting up with everything but then I guess the writers of Zara Yaad Kar have forgotten that love brings happiness with it & any love that doesn’t make the one in love happy, then the love dies quickly & as we see Haadi is not happy with Mahnoor & the way she treats him like a doormat doesn’t make him happy either, so where is this love shove coming from bhai???

This episode was just a waste of time & the preview of the next episode left me baffled & infuriated because it suggested that the drama is not going to end next week too. I am not sure what has gone into the heads of HUM Channel’s heads because it looks like even they are unable to deal with this torture & their lack of interest in this project is evident because looks like Sanam is replacing it next week. I am not sure what is happening because if this is what they had to do, then why didn’t they cut this drama short & ended it this week? The story, the characters & the purpose of this drama is something that is lost & is not making much sense, but the way HUM TV is dealing with this project shows that even they are not interested in this drama anymore. I am not sure when is it ending because I was told that 27th episode will be the last one but it doesn’t seem to be the case. I so wish they had ended this drama today because there is practically nothing left in this drama. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Zara Yaad Kar.

Teri Chah Mein – An Overview

0

So I umm-ed and aah-ed and almost sat down to write the review then changed my mind – and then came back to my laptop and here I am. Most of the dramas I have reviewed till date have been fairly seedhay saadhay and for those of you who have been following Tere Chah Mein you may understand where I am coming from when I say that though this drama has ‘strange’ (strange being a mild and safe word) events unfolding one after the other – it has captured my interest. Whether the story is controversial, religiously, morally or ethically wrong or right is something I do not wish to get into. The way the story is told and the sequence of events and how each character is etched out and the way their minds work is what has interested me in the first place. The unpredictable twists and fast pace of the drama also contribute to Tere Chah Mein being a show I find myself tuning into each week.

Produced by Big Bang Entertainment, directed by Aabis Raza and written by Samina Ejaz, Teri Chah Mein airs on ARY Digital every Wednesday at 8pm. Teri Chah Mein is the story of two brothers and their families. The older brother played by Salman Shahid is married to a younger woman Mehwish (Maria Wasti) and the couple have two children Zara (Saboor Ali) and Kashif ( Asim Azhar). The younger brother Chacha is played by Shakeel and he is married to Chachi Ami (Shaheen Khan) and they have two sons, Faisal (Farhan Saeed) and Tahir (Fahad Sheikh). Although Mehwish does not seem to be an overly doting wife, yet we are given the impression that she is content with her lot in life and has a fairly good relationship with her husband. She is a lecturer at a university and spends her days juggling work, her children and home. The two brothers and their families share cordial relations and we learn that Zara is engaged to Faisal. As the bachpan ki mangnis go as portrayed in our dramas, Zara is in love with Faisal who in turn is friendly with her but is uneasy about the growing talks of finalizing a date for their marriage. He finds ways to speak to Mehwish and finally gets the chance to tell her that he can not marry Zara – for he has feelings for Mehwish instead.

Mehwish’s husband overhears this outburst and suffers a fatal heart attack. Faisal tries to speak to Mehwish at numerous occasions but she seemingly wants to have nothing to do with him. He finally corners her and I am not sure how this seemed to work like a magic wand but he clears himself by saying that he said to her that he wishes to marry someone ‘like’ her and not her but now with her husband out of the picture – he would like to marry her. Mehwish seems to fall into a state of trance and during that trance goes ahead with the nikkah to Faisal. She feels torn between guilt and wonder and regret and horror – or does she? I am not sure what she feels really once the nikkah has taken place except that she stresses nobody must know of their relationship just yet.

Faisal’s father soon comes across the nikkah nama and takes Faisal to task and when the whole story is being revealed, Kashif overhears the entire conversation. Kashif has shown to be a very emotional being from the beginning of the drama – overly emotional and true to form, rushes home and confronts his mother and while threatening to kill her, turns the gun on himself and shoots himself. So few episodes down and Mehwish loses her husband and then her son. Zara collapses and stays at her Chacha’s house till she beings to recover. She returns to her parents’ home and is initially cold but she seems to transform saying she has accepted things as they are and wishes to move on and is nice to Faisal and Mehwish. A peek into her thoughts enlightens us – she plans to ‘care’ for Faisal so as to make her mother jealous. And that is her plan of revenge so far. Well!

You know, when I sat tapping away at the laptop furiously, my husband out of curiosity asked me – a new drama review? And when I told him the storyline his response was – Are you serious?! The story narrated sounds outrageous and the story on screen is not any less outrageous. What Mehwish faces is constant backlash from everyone – family, work, society. Interestingly with the exception of his parents, nobody seems to have taken Faisal to task or treated him to any jibes and taunts. I saw a poster of this drama asking whether love is ‘qaid’ by age and I am not sure what message this drama is trying to give if any.

There are so many arguments being presented by the main characters and then the side ones and then the general public in this drama and that come up in our minds that it is difficult to channel down each thought and viewpoint but here goes:

Mehwish was married to an older man against her wishes. She was emotionally blackmailed and pushed into a marriage which she saw through without demanding much else in life for herself. So, when given the chance to remarry and have her chance at love – is she wrong to go ahead with it? That would be Faisal and Mehwish’s argument.

Mehwish married a younger man and that too the man who was engaged to her very own daughter. Ouch! Tasteless, shameless, selfish etc . Mehwish is a mother – how could she put her own happiness before her daughter’s? – Chacha,Chachi, Zara and the general public’s argument.

Live and let live – Faisal and Mehwish.

Not when you trod over other relations in the process. Duniya kia kahay gee? – The Others.

Well!

Even though society frowns upon it, but marriage to a younger man is not as alarming as it is made to appear it is. There have been many instances, when a woman is widowed she is often married off to her dead husband’s brother. I have to admit this twist of marrying the dead husband’s brother’s SON threw me but out of curiosity I wonder what really the age difference is between Mehwish and Faisal for we are given the impression she is married to a much older man at a very young age. I am trying very hard not to be judgemental and pass any personal sentences here, LOL – but I can not refrain from saying that while Mehwish is justified in remarrying, choosing to marry the very man who was engaged to her daughter and related to her made me a bit queasy. As for Mehwish, I am not sure how I feel about her character and I mean this aside from her choice to marry Faisal. She comes across as a confident mature woman in the beginning, so then the way she went ahead with the nikkah was a bit unconvincing. Also, her attitude with Zara is confusing. Surely, to make your daughter accept her ex fiancé as her step father she needs more than yelling at to behave and be slapped? The conversation Mehwish had with Zara in the car where she explained her feelings did not seem to have any impact either. Maria Wasti is a great actress but I am unable to actually put my finger on whether it is Mehwish’s character that lacks a certain depth or Maria’s acting that makes it seem that she is a woman who is not as passionate about her relationships or as affected by what has happened so far. She has happily accepted Zara’s change in stance – so far. Farhan Saeed in Udaari and now in Teri Chah Mein has made me sit up and take notice for I find he has acted remarkably well in both serials.

Once I started watching this drama and then also looked up the name of the writer, producer etc I was a bit taken aback to find it had more strikes against it than I had imagined. In my book at least.

(a) Big Bang production. That name makes most of us uneasy and understandably so.

(b) Sameena Ejaz. The name sounded familiar and upon some research I found she has given us dramas such as Adhoori Aurat, Zinda Dargour, Doosri Aurat – need I go on?

(c) Big Bang & Sameena Ejaz – the most recent product of this duo was Be Qasoor. Ahem.

(d) Saboor Ali. After Bhai I had thought never again, no more screeching, hair strewn, tiny framed Saboor Ali being pushed around on screen for me. Yet here I am. Although there was plenty of screaming in the earlier episodes, I hope this is the end of it and a vengeful Saboor Ali has more to offer.

(e) Shaheen Khan. The helpless, perpetual woebegone expression plastered on her face actress has been on my screen far too many times.

Yet! In spite of all this, I just finished watching the latest episode last night. On the flip side, given the pace of the drama so far I am curious to see what further twists unfold. When Kashif died I had thought the rest of the drama would focus on how Mehwish faces this and her relationship with Faisal. But with Zara’s plan of action and next week’s promo showing Mehwish has caught on to Zara’s plan and is having her own tantrums, I can only hope that this play remains what it is to me right now – entertaining and interesting and does not begin to drag. I would like to mention that the director’s latest work Tum Yaad Aye was a treat to watch and this drama seems alright so far except please – can we do away with the ghostlike images hiding behind curtains or behind doors and eavesdropping on conversations which lead to drastic and even fatal turn of events! I personally like the OST too but then I do like most of Farhan Saeed’s songs!

How many of you have been following this drama and would you be interested in weekly/ fortnightly reviews? What do you make of it so far – would love to hear your thoughts.

7 reasons which make Janaan a MUST watch !

0

1. Changes the Image of Pakhtuns
Janaan is shot in the beautiful location of Swat. The movie tries to break the cultural stereotypes and shows Pakistan in positive light. In reality and in most of the movies Pakhtuns are shown as Terrorists but Janaan wants to remove this tag from Pakhtuns.

j 1
The producer Imran Rizvi in an interview said, “Since the movie is releasing on an international platform, it attempts to showcase that people residing in Pakistan, including Pakhtuns, are just as fun loving, crazy and normal like everyone else! They sing, they dance and have family politics like every family. It is a very relatable, family entertainment flick, releasing internationally in 15 countries and is bound to cast an impact on the audiences.”

2. Does Not Revolve Around a Typical Love Traingle
The cast of the movie insisted that Janaan is not only about a love triangle but the audience will witness that film will highlight many other issues.
Armeena said, “It’s a misconception that this movie is all about another love triangle because there is just so much more to the film underlying. A lot of issues get addressed in the film. So you just cannot call it your box standard rom-com”.

j 3

3. Film Is Not Inspired By Bollywood
Janaan has tried real hard to keep its originality intact and not get influenced by the Bollywood films. The cast members shared that the real fun in the movie is that story is of our own country.
Bilal Ashraf from the cast said, “I think the best thing about Janaan is that it is based on Pakistan culture.”
“It represents Pakistan; it defends Pakistan and its shot in beautiful Swat. It has its own identity and will make its own mark. It will make Pakistan’s mark in global cinema and in Pakistan. We are not trying to copy anyone or imitate anyone. There is no element from Bollywood; it’s all original Pashtun culture which hasn’t been showcased ever in movies before”.
The movie has only taken few singers from Bollywood that too for promoting cross-border collaborations, singers like Arman Malik and Shreya Ghoshal and compositions by Salim-Sulaiman.

4. Armeena’s Character Promotes Women Empowerment
Another intelligent move that Janaan makers have made is to add a concept which is hated across the globe “women empowerment.” This concept will surely work for the audience and will make them fall in love with the film.

j 13
5. Janaan A Family Entertainer
As the film is not only about a love triangle rather deal with issues like women empowerment, breaking the stereotype culture and no item songs, makes it perfect for families to watch. Moreover the film has dealt with serious issues under the cover of comedy which attracts audience of all ages.

j 11

6. Very Attractive cast

Janaan has a cast which is full of energy and talent. The fun loving Ali Rehman, Armeena and Bilal looked perfect together like a family. The sources reveal it’s not just the lead characters that have good chemistry but also with the directors and the producers as well.

Janaan movie

7. Unleashing New Talent

Janaan has not left a single aspect untouched, it has made sure that every effort is made to attract the audience. Instead of casting only the established actors it has gone for experimentation by engaging some emerging stars like Hania Amir and Usman Mukhtar.

Hilarious Reactions To Mann Mayal’s Ending

Mann Mayal might have been the most disappointing drama of this season but it is a fact that it gave the viewers tons to laugh about because of its twisted characters and repetitive dialogues. Jeena’s dialogue “mere maa baap nahi hai” was for the longest time used in memes by many creative people, to make those who were following the show laugh. The kind of attention this dialogue and the character got wasn’t something to be proud of. Similarly, when Mann Mayal did not end even after 25 weeks and the story was going around in circles like it would never end, 99.9 percent of the people watching the show just wanted it to end, they no longer cared about what kind of an ending this would be as long as it will put an end to a drama which was a complete train wreck. It isn’t surprising that many people are celebrating the end of this drama on social media and blogs.

We are sharing some of the most funny memes and hilarious tweets which are circulating on the web to bid farewell to Mann Mayal forever with the hope that we have seen the worse of Pakistani dramas and we won’t be watching another drama as bad as this one in the future!

Is Team of “Best of luck” trying to benefit from Nisha Malick’s Death?

0

As already known that model/ actor Nisha Malik has committed suicide Saturday night. Her death still remains to be a mystery and no proper reason behind the suicide has found. The team of Nisha’s debut film “Best of Luck” plans to release the film on Eidul Azha.

The investigation of Nisha’s case is still under the process. From Last five years Nisha was seen actively doing modelling in Lahore. The filming of Best of Luck is complete from last few months and since then no release date was announced. But now suddenly the team has decided to release the film and that too so soon after the death of the lead character Nisha. Film is a low budget film and will be released in few major cities like Lahore and Karachi.

RIP-Nisha-Malik-1

best of luck 9

Keeping in view the budget of the film and other big budget film releases at the same time, in mind the fate of the film is quite predictable. It makes quite obvious that the team has made this quick decision of the release to cash in on the tragedy surrounding its deceased lead actor.

As the director of the film said “We were planning to release the film on Eid anyway. We have just started the post-production and the film will be ready by Eid.” The director also shared that he plans to release the movie in Karachi and other major cities in honour of the late actor. Produced jointly by Zain Hafeez and Mian brothers, the film also stars Fahad Malik, Zara Malik, Ashi Khan, Raheela Agha and Khawar Khan in prominent roles.

Mann Mayal Last Episode – Good Riddance

So, the story of Mann Mayal wasn’t even about a girl realizing that marriage wasn’t the solution to all of her problems and that she needed to study and stand on her own two feet but it was after all a love story!! Even in the end Mannu blamed Salahuddin for all her troubles before she finally decided to “forgive” him, for God knows what!! Salahuddin managed to redeem himself by knocking at Mannu’s door the same way she knocked on his door many years back. Mannu’s parents once again proved that they were the most useless parents in the history of Pakistani dramas. Mannu’s mother’s character can be easily added to the list of all those mothers who do not know the first thing about supporting their daughters in any way at all. There are dramas like Udaari which give us exceptional role models and then there are dramas like Mann Mayal which prove that if a rich man falls in love with you, you don’t need to make anything out of your life. Dialogues like kisi zehr ke beghair hi mar jau ga were a constant part of this drama. Even in the end Mannu didn’t learn to take responsibility for her actions. Somehow I don’t see this ending as a happily ever after but it is definitely a good day for us all because Mann Mayal finally ended.

There are many reasons why Mann Mayal even with all its viewership failed to make it to the list of dramas which will be remembered for the right reasons. Poorly developed, vague and weak characters which failed to carry the plot forward was the biggest weakness of this drama. When the characters in the story are strong they help taking the story forward thus making not only their own characters a success but the story as a whole more interesting too but when the characters are inconsistent and weak they fail at all levels. Although by the end of this drama I vowed not to watch another drama in which Maya Ali will be playing a bechari but I have to admit that for many weeks she was the one giving the best performance until Mannu’s character was turned into a joke. Ayesha Khan has given me a really good reason not to tune into another one of her dramas because of the role she played in this drama. Hamza Ali Abbasi turned out to be the biggest disappointment in the show because his performance was unimpressive to say the least although according to the writer this was his story more than Mannu’s. Jeena, Mannu, Salahuddin and Mann Mayal will unfortunately be used as a bad example for a very long time.

Another reason why Mann Mayal did not hit the mark was choppy editing, details which were left to one’s imagination, some very important details which were completely missed and disappearance of important characters even when they were needed the most. The most important reason why this drama went downhill was that when it got massive viewership the producers decided to prolong the show. The drama was stretched to the limit, testing the patience of the viewers. The plot of Mann Mayal lacked innovation right from the beginning but later on the story went completely haywire when it started banking completely on every single cliché which has ever been used as a desperate measure to make the story a success. In the last few episodes the scenes were engineered to make the viewers cry and feel for Mannu without taking into account whether the story was making sense or not.

I would like to thank all those wonderful readers who read the reviews every week and made the discussions far more interesting than the drama itself. You guys are the reason why I continued watching and reviewing Mann Mayal. A big thanks to you all – you are the best!

So, how are you going to celebrate the ending of a drama which has tormented us for weeks? Here is the Zarda I promised ;)

Udaari Episode 22 – Breaking Stereotypes

Mein victim nahi survivor banu gi, mein bechari aur mazloom nahi banu gi. Mein mazbut hu, taqatwar hu……In this day and age when our writers and producers are bent on showing becharis in dramas it is truly refreshing and inspiring to watch a character which refuses to be a bechari even though she has been through much more than many other leading ladies who are turned into becharis for no reason. Also, all the dramas so far which have dealt with this very sensitive issue have advocated that a victim should keep quiet because sharing the truth with anyone at all will not get her any solutions but will only add to her troubles. We saw Rameen’s own mother in Chup Raho asking her to stay silent about the issue because if she spoke up then her fiancé would refuse to marry her and her brother in law (the rapist!) will divorce her sister! In Sangat even the counselor who was given the task of  guiding Ayesha, told her that she should not share her ordeal with anyone and as a result of that right till the end Ayesha’s mother did not even know what happened to her! Also, in most of these dramas whenever the truth came out the victim’s life never changed for the better. Things got worse for Rameen and Ayesha both when their spouses found out the truth. Udaari sets new standards in many ways and I cannot praise the team of Udaari enough for sending out a message that is not only new but truly enlightening. It isn’t very easy showing things in dramas which are not widely accepted by the society and to tell the story of a rape victim in such a way that it questions the clichés and taboos attached to it. udari Zebu’s confidence stood out more than anything else in this episode. The reason for this confidence was that Zebu could clearly see now what needed to be done. She truly believed that she was a survivor, someone who could not change her past but had the courage and the power to bring the man who violated her to justice. The scene outside the court in which she said she wasn’t nervous at all was a very powerful scene which showed that a victim shouldn’t be the one who should feel nervous or vulnerable. Hina Altaf’s acting was definitely on point in tonight’s episode. She portrayed all of Zebu’s feelings brilliantly. The scenes in the court in particular and all the developments in tonight’s episode in general were covered flawlessly. Many of the questions that were in the mind of the viewers were also answered in this episode. The role of Kashf foundation was also highlighted aptly; without their help it would have been very difficult for Zebu to get justice. The pressure from the foundation will play a pivotal role in putting pressure of Malik Iftikhar. The change in the attitude of the judge and most importantly the way Imtiaz’s demeanor changed when Zebu walked in the court were all minor details which went to show how things turned around only because the victim chose to speak up. Ahsan Khan just like every other episode played his role effortlessly. Sammiya Mumtaz’s expressions and Sajida’s attempts to quiet Zebu showed that she could not do anything to stop Zebu at this point. udari This episode sent a clear cut message – once a rape victim manages to muster up the courage to take a stand for herself, things do turn around. Also, the victim is the only who should decide whether she wants to punish the rapist or stay quite and the people who are associated with her should not take that decision on her behalf. Zebu was not ready to come forward few weeks back because for the past so many years she was told by everyone around her that she shouldn’t tell anyone what had happened but Arsh’s conversation with her changed everything. Farhan Saeed is another actor who has been truly impressive in this serial. Udaari deserves 5 stars for breaking stereotypes and taboos. It also deserves tons of praise for giving out all the right messages loud and clear. This episode in particular was very well directed, written and acted out. It would have been picture perfect if the director decided to chop down Ins e Yazdan’s scenes all together. Sheedan could have been the one who asked Zebu how she felt before the trial. How many of you watched this episode? Please share your thoughts about it.

Naml Episode26 – Farzand-e-Nazneen – Mulzim Is The Beloved Child

0

OMG…what an episode, I am speechless and still in awe. I wonder how come the writer has managed to keep the interest alive because for me Aab-e-Hayat had lost it long ago although it is better now but Naml has been an exceptionally good collaboration of suspense, plotting, intelligent conversation, brave decisions and most importantly the hope and wisdom conveyed through the deeper meanings of Ayats.

Yippie, let’s talk about the episode, It was ah-mazing with everything starting falling in its place and Kardaars getting ready for their horrendous end.

Team Faris or Farcissism ?:

I was sure that Faris is up to something but I never knew he was such a dau number insan, that he not only teamed up with Ahmer Shafi but also made sure Dr. Sarah to speak out in the court. Good job Faris ?

So guys Stapine’s fans are back after knowing that Ahmer is still a human and is working as a personal  F.B.I  agent for Faris…hehe
Haneen I wasn’t expecting this change because I thought she is still struggling but it was great to see her acting to her potential and saving her beloved family. When Dr.Sarah’s kids were kidnapped I thought it might be Haneen because Faris had already revealed her dau numberi by letting Haneen to meet Aabdaar and made sure to let her feel used. That ‘H’ initial was scary though.
Hmmm, the passport mystery is still there so my guess was wrong but I am still not able to believe that Hashim has got this all without any effort, it was just a phone call and Hashim had all the pieces of the passport…ghar ka banda hint points towards no other than Sadaqat.
How come Haseena got a brand new Samsung Mobile? Wondering right!

Team Zumar:

The part where Zumar comforts Saadi in the kitchen and informs how to answer Hashim’s questions was heart touching.Haaye, class main dihaan diya hota tou pta hota is law ka! Haha you nailed it Zumar. Your confidence is top notch and I loved the way she made Hashim feel stressed.
Oh, so the news of killing two people shocked everyone but ThankGod Zumar saved the day for us….pheww
Dear Saadi, you have been through a lot but you are back with great lessons and the convo with Dr.Sarah about straight path was par excellence, I had to read it twice Yeah twice and Namlians surely know this reason…right? ?
How many of you think that Team Zumar is boring? Or we can rephrase it…Which team is interesting?
Kardaar converting to good!
Ahhh, the most awaited moment for me that repenting part was there in this episode but in a very unexpected manner and from someone I never thought of….Naushervan Kardaar, I couldn’t believe my feelings I had when I was reading this I was so happy to read it.The tranquility I felt is impossible for me to pen it down because sometimes words can never fathom the real emotion.
Roshni dikhaai bhi kisne, Saadi.
Apne dar ko face karna chahiye!
Shehreen ne aakhir kch kaam ka kiya atleast Sherru knew what he should have done long ago.
Naushervan will InshaAllah eventually be a better human and I am over the moon to have known about it.
The dialogue with that man was a new way of showing hope for people who are guilty and are ready to convert themselves for good. We love you Nemrah Ahmed for depicting hope with no better words than this.
Javahirat…end of trust!
Aabdaar was not to be trusted at all so Jewelry aunty had to pay the price for her one crime yes one because after knowing about Arangzeb I don’t know how Hashim would react! A huge lesson for those who leave no stone unturned for their children even if it is wrong… that materialistic approach got you jewelry aunty :D and I don’t feel for you…sorry :P
Hashim Kardaar …had to mention him: Honestly Hashim is overconfident about his skills and this will lead him into  serious problems…I can’t define how I was relieved to see him stressed out…you deserve it Hashim…now everyone is going against him, he is left alone. Zumar rightly said if Hashim was a decent man not just Zumar every other girl would have been his FAN.. but here lies a big” IF”…Sigh
Oh the funniest part though or one of the funniest part apart from Zumar and Faris’s teesri shaadi shosha..:D  was Soniya’s Birthday Theme Party !!! and the theme was “Finding Dori”… I was interested to see Aabdaar, Hashim and most importantly and rightly selected character Javahirat…the Shark. Can you imagine the Shark with dripping blood from its teeth and besides her lies the dead body of Aurangzeb! Haaye…such a horrible picture.
Character development:
The change in every character is written magnificently and I would rate it 9/10. I still expect something more from Haneen’s character.
Pace:
The pace of this episode was excellent and it was surely a 10/10 win.
Predictions and Expectations:
Let’s do some brain storming here.I think the passport and Usb is stolen by Sadaqat.
We need answers for these questions:
1- Will Hashim literally kill a person or was it killing by words in court the writer meant?
2- If it is killing will it be Naushervan?
3- Who was that ghar ka banda who stole the Passport and Usb?
4- Will Saadi ever reveal the name of the killer behind Aurangazeb’s death?
5- Will Abdaar ever leave Faris?
I hope you enjoyed reading this review.Do share your views about the episode..wanna hear more guesses and predictions.Naml is going to end soon and surely Namlians would throw a party for Yusuf’s success. Can’t wait for it either.

Thora Sa Aasman Episode 07 – So Far So Good!

Ohkay so, this episode of Thora Sa Aasman was a good watch for sure. I really like how without wasting much time, the director is taking the story forward & every episode gives us something new because it not only makes things interesting but also keeps the attention of the viewers intact too.

Fareeda Apa played her game really really well & this time with much more confidence because she had a support of her daughter Aneela as well. Aneela might not say it but she definitely dreams of being with a guy like Talha who not only is decent but is financially sound too. Fareeda Apa obviously doesn’t want Masood & Mansoor’s children to get married because she knows that way, their mutual wealth will remain within their families & her dream of seeing her children getting settled will be ruined. Where Fareeda wants Aneela to get married to either Talha or Osama, she has a son too who she wants to see getting married to either Ambar or Safiya, because of obvious reasons. Fareeda however succeeded in creating a misunderstanding between the two families as she knew that both Muneeza & Shabana won’t budge & that way her future plans will work.

Muneeza didn’t take the news well as she is not only level headed but a tad bit arrogant as well, as she knows that her daughters will easily get married & Talha & Osama are not the last guys on earth. Mansoor might be younger be he has an upper-hand in comparison to Masood because it seems like it was his business that he allowed Masood to become a part of, that is why both Mansoor & Muneeza don’t really shy away from taking a stand as they know they have an edge over Masood & Shabana.

It was interesting to see how Shabana, without saying much about Ambar & Muneeza accepted everything. She knew that she did say a word or two but if everyone had read between the lines, they would’ve known that Fareeda magnified everything to benefit from it the most. Shabana also had no chance to succumb to the pressures because she saw that her family would end up suffering from every single angle be it financial crisis or social standing as they know it a bit too well that Mansoor’s association with them might come with a territory but has its own benefits too. Shabana & Masood tried to be a bigger person in this matter & apologized which was accepted halfheartedly by Muneeza & Mansoor. Even though they reconciled but Fareeda knows that she has planted the seed of doubt in their hearts & mind forever & it won’t take her a lot of time & effort to achieve her goal of separating these two families in the future.

Even though Ambar might come across as a spoiled brat, she has a lot of niceness in her heart & that makes her personality likable. She is just like any other girl, who behaves that way because of the way she has been pampered by her parents & then her fiancé. Ambar is independent & she doesn’t like reporting every single thing to Talha, which he finds a little hard to accept & that is why, he doesn’t take the news of Ambar’s participating in a college play a bit too well. Talha & Ambar might love each other but they have a personality clash where Talha wants to feel that he’s the one who has an authority in this relationship, but Ambar’s level-headedness doesn’t allow him to feel that way because she is not only opinionated, but she is independent too & she is not a typical girl who believes in reporting everything to her fiancé, that too which she chooses to do for herself in her life.

Ambar has come across as girl in college named Rakshi & seems like Rakshi has a humble background. Ambar & Rakhsi instantly form a connection because not only Ambar seems to like her, Rakhsi seems a little too impressed with Ambar as well & the moment Ambar starts a conversation, Rakhsi eases her way into her life without making anything seem effortful. Ambar’s friends are not a fan of an idea that Ambar has befriended Rakshi but Ambar doesn’t seem to mind as she is quite kindhearted in her own way.

Overall, this episode was done really really well & I am glad that even though the misunderstanding that Fareeda Apa created was huge, it was dealt & finished off within this episode & not only that, along with everything happening between the elders, the director gave enough time to the younger lot as well where he introduced the character of Rakshi at the right time. I am definitely looking forward to what is yet to come & I really hope that the pace, which for me is the strongest point of this drama stays the same till the end. I will say that the director has tackled this script with a lot of intelligence & I am really happy I decided to tune to this drama. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Thora Sa Aasman.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

The Best Woman In The Kitchen

The content of the morning shows has been repeatedly brought under discussion on pretty much every platform. We are well aware of the antics to gather the ratings, where the morality police of the morning show chased unsuspecting couples in Karachi’s part or the live exorcisms, which scared us to death with our morning coffee. No matter how much we talk about it, no matter how much we despise it, the plague of regressive material continues on the morning shows, because it sells. There is no iota of incentive on account of these shows, which shows a change for the better, instead they launch on pathetic reinforcement of clichés, because it sells.

4

My random midnight flicking through the channels brought me to one such show. The reason I continued to watch this particular show in the middle of the night was because I was looking for an ounce of sanity, it is best to say there was nothing there. ‘Jago Pakistan Jago’ Hum Televisions leading morning show with a host setting incredible standards in posh dressing was this time on the hunt for the best woman in the kitchen. She and her two sidekicks, one a renowned chef (who with all his expertise failed to realize that it’s called ‘Ravioli’ not ‘Ravaili’. Yes I am judging him over his pronunciation, because if he thought himself to be entitled enough to pass judgments on the women who cook every day of their lives, then he must be judged on his expertise and isn’t that the deal in the culinary school that you need to name the thing right, before you even try to make it?) And another woman, who inexplicably was there to make every woman in the kitchen feel bad about herself, as she was taking the lead in telling everyone if the garam masala is not hand grinded to perfection in two minutes, then you have lost it at domestic life.

5

The main aim on the show was to find the woman on the show was the cleanest and the most efficient in the kitchen or in the local terms ‘Sugghar’. The ladies were given two minutes to do the tasks like grind the spices, separate the eggs or make the chutney. Well it is safe to say all of the women on the show failed to cater to the standards of Sanam Jung and her two sidekicks, who over the night became the Matt Preston of food critics in Pakistan. This was not the only thing that angered me during the entire show, occasionally the audience burst into a tirade against a contestant and her kitchen skills, and lets just say the two incredible sidekicks did not disappoint. Now I know, these woman posing as contestant might be actresses or paid to act in a particular way, or this entire show was a set up. But, there is no explanation of why a woman who cooks for her family every day of the year should be brought under such a scrutiny and why we must enforce the cliché that if a woman is unclean or inefficient in the kitchen she has failed altogether as a woman and her womanhood is ashamed of her.

The entitled chef was out there spelling out critiques to the women on how they have failed. Little did he realize that the women in the kitchen are not the graduates of a culinary school, they have developed their skills on their own, not working in a professional kitchen but around the needs of a home, while juggling children and a family. Her life does not depend on the tenderness of pasta but getting the food on the plate while the children cry on other end of the house.

7

Why is this a problem and why does it affect me emotionally? It is a problem because all it does is to show a woman usefulness only being limited to the kitchen. It shows that all that a woman should worry about is her efficiency in the kitchen and it also shows that there is little incentive to our television people to show a progressive woman. I belong to home where my mother cooked meals and fed her children properly, it angers me that her legacy of a perfect mother gets tainted by a mere fact that she was not pristine clear in the kitchen. It angers me to see a channel that has a woman at the helm come up with such regressive ideas against women. The shows are another story, but isn’t it the same case there?

If the woman is not in the kitchen, worried about her wedding or her life revolving around a cliché, then she is incapable of being glorified in any positive way. This is the message we impart to the women of our country, and sadly this message sells the most. I am a man and it aches my heart that our television industries led by these unregulated morning shows are reinforcing every stereotype against the woman. Why complain to men for their chauvinism, when we have women on television doing exactly just that. Oscar, fighter pilot, doctor or a revolutionary, these things are pointless unless your kitchen is spotless, that is the woman we idealize and sadly that is the woman that shall sell.

New Charity in name of Nazia Hassan

0

Muniza Basir the mother of legendary singer Nazia Hassan shared her latest initiative with media. Muniza shared that a new charity project is started in Nazia Hassan’s name in which underprivileged children of Karachi will study. The purpose is to educate the street children. Prior to this charity project no such project exists.

Muniza in a statement shared, “We are working towards establishing a school here in Karachi, but this is not just any other school in Pakistan. This school is specifically dedicated to the grooming and education of working children on the streets – who have been burdened with the expectation of earning for their entire families at the expense of their own education.”

Further she added, “Our school aspires to offer these children a course on whatever they are already doing as a profession, while also teaching them basic subjects such as English, mathematics, computer skills and history. The aim of this initiative is to brush up skills that would help them flourish in their profession, while also being capable of going and taking up their work in any other place and not having to worry about getting by.”
Nazia’s mother shared that Nazia was born in Karachi that’s why the project is started from this city and she believes to extend branches of school soon in other cities too. Muniza shared that previously she was busy bringing up Nazia’s son who is now studying law in Kings College.

Muniza also told that it was Nazia’s wish that an educational institution should be set up for the children so that while earning there bread and butter they are not left behind in the race of developing career. Therefore the aim of the institution is to provide a long term solution to children who grow up on the streets by providing them with diplomas from established universities.

“We will be offering a five-year course for our students, and have been reaching out to universities who can authorize and give these students a diploma. With this diploma, they can earn their livelihood anywhere. As we are sure that the universities will promote this initiative, it is to our great pleasure to announce that our students will now also have the option of pursuing higher education!” she says.

Muniza told that it’s one of the buildings of Nazia’s farther which is being utilized for the project. She said she was hesitant when she asked him but he approved of the idea immediately considering his daughters wish and the life of the poor kids.

The tentative name for the institution is Nazia Hasan Foundation and yet the opening date is not decided.

Dil Lagi Episode 24 – Emotionally Overpowering

What an episode! It was tear-jerkingly moving, I am still trying to recover from the effect it had on me. This episode belonged to the director Nadeem Baig who captured the complete gamut of emotions which were needed to make this episode work. While watching this episode I felt like one of those many characters in the drama who love Mohid and were sitting outside that operation theatre waiting to hear that he survived and will recover. The wedding was covered beautifully, the tayaris and the excitement was captured brilliantly. Everyone involved went from being ecstatic to being extremely sad in no time. Most of the viewers could totally see this coming and honestly speaking I was dreading the moment when that bullet would hit Mohid when he was dancing while I also hoped that I was wrong! Everything from there on was covered flawlessly, Anmol’s reaction in particular was heart-wrenching. Ama’s dialogues in the hospital about doing everything that needed to be done in order to ensure that things end happily was one of the best dialogues of this episode.

dillagi1

This latest installment was comparatively brief but that was expected since this was that extra episode which was not part of the plan initially! The first 10 minutes or so were dedicated to showing the scenes which were shown last week as well. However the episode as a whole was filled with emotional moments. For me the highlights of this episode were Mohid’s expressions when ama says “aj raat ko”, Anmol’s reaction when her mother tells her Mohid’s mother was coming, the conversation between Anmol and Mohid, Dastagir’s dance and most importantly Anmol’s scenes after Mohid gets shot. The moments Mishal and Anmol shared in front of the mirror and the one after Mohid gets shot were also beautifully shot and looked very real; they were filled with raw emotions. Mehwish Hayat looked stunning as a bride and Hamayun Saeed could easily pass for the “shehzada” he is playing on screen. The dialogues in the background when Mohid got shot made this scene even more touching. At that point I wasn’t sure if he would make it to the hospital. Mehwish Hayat was the star of the show tonight; she translated Anmol’s excitement prior to the accident and her state of shock after the accident impeccably on screen.

I am definitely rooting for a happy ending – Mohid and Anmol both deserve it and someone like Mohid deserves to live! Waiting another week to find out how this drama will end is going to be very difficult especially after this episode. You know a drama is a complete success when you find it impossible to detach yourself from the happenings and cannot decide which character in the drama is your favorite because all the characters in Dil Lagi are multi-dimensional and equally interesting. One of the primary strengths of this play are its characters which are unpredictable yet very consistent – their personality traits are consistent but they always keep the viewers guessing about their next move. The strengths of these characters are also their weaknesses, this quality makes their characters easy to connect to and more human. Also, although this story is mainly about Anmol and Mohid’s Dillagi but the supporting characters do much more than supporting the main leads, they have an incredible screen presence and their personalities are very dynamic and interesting. The credit for all these wonderful characters who will be remembered for a very long time and who have given some of the actors involved a new identity goes to the entire team of Dil Lagi from the writer, director, actors to the person in charge of make-up. Hamayun Saeed has bowled his viewers over by translating Mohid’s character flawlessly on screen. His portrayal is honest and endearing. Mehwish Hayat has made me forget every other character she has played till date, to me now she will be Anmol for a very long time. Imran Ashraf is another actor who is exceedingly well-suited for the role he is playing in this drama.

dillagi1

This episode of Dil Lagi deserved to be screened on the big screen! How many of you are still okay with a sad ending? And how many viewers out there want Mohid to survive? Please do share your thoughts about this episode and the drama in general too since we only have this week and the next one to discuss Dil Lagi – a drama I will sorely miss when it ends.

Will Muslim-Hindu Love story work with Pakistani audience? Watch the Trailer.

0

Muslim-Hindu love stories are a very sensitive matter to deal with. Usually the audience is never comfortable with such ideas. The religious and cultural differences put such stories at risk. Sam goes for the writer Hamza Bangash who is trying to fund his short film Rang Raaz. Hamza is unable to get funding for his film, all that he is getting is a refusal.

10991341_10153676880587814_8560098861769420806_n

Hamza shared, “We had approached some pretty prominent people in Pakistan who had vested interests in having a story about minorities told. “He added, “But they all refused, saying the subject of an interfaith marriage is too controversial. I was shocked. Here were people who had prospered, people who were well-connected, but still too scared to make a political statement. They said it’s a threat to their life and their family’s life.”

Hamza also told that on the other hand there are also supporters to the project, like Deepak Parwani. Up till now Hamza himself has funded the project Rang Raaz but now need funding for its post-production.

The short film Rang Raaz is about a young couple, where the man is a Hindu and woman is a Muslim decide to elope. But soon all the things turn upside down and against them.

According to Hamza they have received very negative feedback on their Facebook page But Hamza justifies his case by saying that ‘Who are you to dictate what our culture is?’ If Jinnah, who founded our nation, believed in cultural pluralism, then who is anyone else to say otherwise?”

The film itself is inspired by the much delayed passing of the Hindu Marriage Bill.

Hamza hopes and believes that by independently funding his movie he will be able to change mind-sets of few at least. H believes that no matter Bollywood make good movies but we need to talk about our social issue and recognize out own identity.
