A Pakistani short film directed by Saim Sadiq ’Darling’ has become the first to win an award at the Venice Film Festival.
The film is about a young boy and a Lahore-based transgirl. Darling is also the first Pakistani film to make the cut for one of the Big three film festivals: Cannes, Berlin, and Venice.
A 28-year-old young Saim Sadiq, during an interview, said he sent the film during the open submission call with zero expectations that it would be chosen. Through luck or something, they won the award.

Mani and Hira, the formidable duo has been known for giving out unfiltered and honest opinions as per their thinking, about every single celebrity for the longest period of time. There was a time where people disliked Hira and Mani for stating every single thought that ran through their minds. Hira and Mani used their honesty as their USP and they believed it wouldn’t come back to them ever. For the longest time, Hira and Mani, be it on their own show or on other talk/morning shows did not shy away from saying what they felt about every single Pakistani celebrity whether it was rude or insensitive.
The audience saw a change in both Hira and Mani’s attitudes when Hira started taking her acting career seriously. Hira worked alongside Mani for a considerable amount of time where they both co-hosted a show called Hum Do Hamara Show and then they did sit-coms together. It was too obvious that at that point in their lives, they did not think about how they might have to face the consequences of the things they have been saying about others for years.
In a recent interview, Mani while speaking to Samina Peerzada did mention that he had to take a step back because his involvement and association with Hira was costing her a lot of good projects. That probably was the time when both Hira and Mani decided to work on their image and fix it because they both were well aware of the fact that their words and opinions have caused a lot of damage.
In an interview with Fuchsia, Hira Mani herself also admitted that Imran Abbas refused to work with her and rejected the project straight away after finding out that he will be paired with Hira Mani. The interviewer asked Hira what questions will she ask Mani if she’ll get a chance to interview Mani. Hira said Mani has taken a backseat ever since he has realized that his bluntness and honesty was affecting Hira’s career. In fact Hira yet again turned it into a chance to mention that this is Mani’s love for her that he stopped doing what he was known for. Hira stated that the things Mani asked Imran Abbas during Hum Do Hamara Show rubbed him the wrong way. Hira told that not only Imran Abbas but Naveen Waqar also refused to work with Hira. Hira did however mention that things have been sorted between her and Imran Abbas and they are on good terms with each other. Hira went to speak about Yasir Hussain that he is now working on the lines of Mani but she did speak from her experience and stated that this might cause trouble to Iqra Aziz in the future as well.

Hira Mani does feel that their honesty hurt Imran Abbas and that he could not take the things Mani said to him during the interview but it is disappointing to see how over the years, Hira and Mani have both left no stone unturned in humiliating Pakistani celebrities. This was the reason why for the longest time, the audience didn’t like the image that both Hira and Mani carried as a couple. Hira has now started projecting herself with a lot more maturity and she doesn’t really say things that will hurt others but the things they have said in the past are still on record.
This interview of Good Morning Pakistan was aired in 2014. In this episode, Nida Yasir visited Hira and Mani’s house to show it to the audience. This was also the year when Imran Abbas’s Bollywood movie Creature 3D was about to release and its trailers were being aired all over. In this interview, Hira and Mani both continued to take digs at Imran Abbas and made fun of his movie and his body language. While talking about men who like clothing, Hira clearly stated that those men are sissy and then immediately she shifted the focus on Imran Abbas and without taking his name, started making fun of how he was running after his leading lady Bipasha Basu. Even though this interview was shot at the comfort of their lounge, Hira and Mani totally forgot that this was being aired to the masses. Hira and Mani did not believe in filtering their thoughts and they actually believed it worked for them but in reality, this is what made people have strong opinions against them, their personalities and the things they used to say. Hum Do Hamara Show aired way back but in 2014, it seemed Hira and Mani were still on Imran Abbas’s case and thought making fun of him was the right thing to do. The Song of Creature In Question:
Hira Mani surely has matured over the years and she now presents herself in a very dignified manner. It is good to see that after Mani decided to take a step back, Hira has gotten a chance to work on her image and change it. Hira’s phenomenal acting and talent has gotten her where she is. It is good to see that now Hira is pretty considerate towards her fellow celebrities, however it seems she has a long list of people she’d have to apologize to for the things she and her husband have said about them over the years.
It takes a lot for an actor to create the look of a character. It won’t be an understatement that it actually takes an entire team at times, to give a face to the character when an actor is appointed to play a certain role. A look of a character is also one of the most important aspects because even before the personality of the character is revealed with each passing episode, their look is the first thing that leaves a visual impact. The hair and makeup, clothes, mannerisms and body language contribute a lot in making or breaking a character. Most of the times, when a character looks as close to the reality, that is when it leaves a mark because by the end of the day, dramas are made to depict the reality.
There are very few actors who do not resort to full glam or elaborate looks to play their characters. It takes a lot for an actor to give up their signature or certain look to bring life to the character and more than that, give it a realistic feel and vibe. With the passage of time, our actors have gone easy on the makeup because they have realized that being totally glammed does not do justice to the character that they are portraying. However, In the recent times, we have come across two such actors who gave their negative characters their 100% acting wise, but the overall aesthetic look didn’t do justice to their characters and ended up being a distraction for the viewers. This look that they were going for, resorting to the wig didn’t really make sense to begin with and it left a huge question mark in the minds of the drama buffs as to what they were trying to achieve by relying on such ugly looking wigs. This wig worked against the overall look of these characters and made them look like caricatures.
Let’s take a look at the recent Villains With Wigs:
Nigaar (Balaa)
When Balaa aired, the first thing that caught the attention of the viewers, more than the storyline and the characters was the wig that Ushna Shah was wearing throughout the drama. As the drama progressed, people were looking for an answer because they were unable to wrap their heads around the fact that Ushna Shah wore this hideous looking wig which didn’t add anything to her character. This wig screamed low quality and it did not add any touch of negativity to Nigaar’s character. The character of Nigaar was portrayed phenomenally by Ushna Shah, where her expressions and dialogues, basically her acting was enough to showcase her negative mind-set. That is why it gave all the more reason for the viewers to ponder upon the reason behind why she resorted to this wig. Our actors do try hard to do what it takes to make their characters look real but this wig was totally out of place. Nigaar was shown as a girl with complexes due to her physical limitations but because she came from a wealthy family, she had everything at her disposal, this yet again made everyone question the choice of cheapest wig that Nigaar opted for and most importantly why? Ushna Shah played Nigaar’s character to perfection, her mannerisms, expressions, overall look screamed negativity, but this wig which was a highlighted feature of her look didn’t really do much for her!
Shumaila (Surkh Chandni)
It looks like after the popularity of Balaa and Nigaar’s character, Big Bang Production house stored the wig used by Ushna Shah to be used later. When the writer came up with Shumaila’s character in Surkh Chandni, which is being played perfectly by Mansha Pasha, the producers handed the same wig over to her to be worn to recreate the aura of Nigaar from Balaa. Not sure what made them think that this wig which is perfectly styled with loose curls all the time will add realistic touch to Shumaila’s character? Shumaila belonged to a lower middle class family where she had to do most of the household chores for a family of 5 in the initial episodes, so for her locks to have perfect curls just did not make sense whatsoever. What’s worse is that it was way too obvious that it was a wig, which once again made people question the choice made by those who styled Shumaila and came up with an image for her character. Mansha Pasha has performed brilliantly but this wig is nothing short of a distraction and unrealistic one at that too.
Let’s hope that after the popularity of both these characters and perfect acting by both Ushna Shah and Mansha Pasha, Big Bang Production doesn’t make wearing wigs mandatory like an official dress-code for their negative characters played by females.
The most anticipated drama of Hum TV Anaa has ended and people loved the whole drama throughout but they are not digesting the end of the drama. According to people the character Daneen, played by Hania Amir, deserved much more than being alone. People think that the character of Areesh was a loser and proved to be the loser throughout and it’s not a reviewer’s mind who is giving opinions and thoughts about the ending as we have compiled comments for you about opinions of people regarding ending. People are not happy despite the good ending of Izzah and Altamash, they are not expecting Aania with Areesh.
The drama was good as it has grabbed the audiences till the last episode, but the last part has brought all the differences of opinions.

This was another entertaining episode of Deewar-e-Shab which covered all the latest developments in a simple manner. Salar made his way to Sitara Mahal, Sandal started her journey as a professional dancer and Khayyam’s ‘plan’ did not go as well as he had expected it to go. There was no significant developments in Maaz and Joya’s track in this episode either. Faiq Khan continues to be quite amusing as Salman Izhar and it is because of his performance that this character does not come across as annoying. Sitara Jahan and Salar’s meeting was the highlight of this episode since it had a certain warmth about it.
Sitara Mahal
This recent episode of Deewar-e-Shab showed how all the characters in Sitara Mahal were once again focusing on whatever they wanted to do in life. It is good to see all these people moving on but at the same time they talk about whatever they have gone through which makes perfect sense. Nagina’s struggle continues till date but it seems like Salar and Sandal will be the one making a difference in the lives of people living in Sitara Mahal. Salar’s ‘interest’ in Gaiti Ara and the way he made his way inside Sitara Mahal was one of the most interesting developments since this meant a big change in the dynamics.
Gaiti Ara has obviously not forgotten Khayyam but she has also not been shown thinking about him all the time. Gaiti Ara has decided to concentrate on her studies while Sandal wants to make a big name for her family. Gaiti Ara’s character is quite plain and Sarah Khan’s make-up has been over the top right from the beginning. She looks pretty attractive but most of the time her make-up doesn’t go well with the situations she is in. On the other hand, Sandal, who is actually the loud and dramatic one wears awful make-up and there is nothing ‘glamorous’ about her appearance. Sarah Khan has played her role well, she has done whatever was required but Hira Soomro so far has failed to impress. Hira’s acting in some scenes is good while in others she doesn’t even give the right expressions.
Khayyam’s Track
The jewelry Khayyam stole was stolen and surprisingly enough he decided to go to the police! Apart from his selfishness, Khayyam’s immaturity is another important aspect of his personality which has been highlighted repeatedly. Khayyam thought about Gaiti Ara when he found out that her bangles too were in the jewelry he stole which basically showed how twisted he was! He hasn’t thought about how heartbroken she must be because he left but he was concerned that he took away her most precious gift. Even though Khayyam is a seriously twisted character but I find his journey interesting. He might eventually turn to his father for help and end up working for him. Like every other track in this drama, this one too can go in different directions.
The Other Tracks
Salman and his family were shown dreaming of moving to their new house in this episode. They are so foolish that they didn’t for once think that Zubia might not allow them to live in her house. Sometimes I wonder how Izhaar got this far considering he plays along with everything his family assures him of even though at times it makes very little sense. Amna Wajahat’s acting has been so unimpressive throughout and Kinza Hashmi so far plays a character which doesn’t have a lot to offer. Although Maaz’s character has been written well but somehow I don’t find myself rooting for him.
Final Remarks
This episode of Deewar-e-Shab was interesting, this is turning out to be one of those dramas which keep your interest alive. The journeys of all the characters can have many possible outcomes therefore I am looking forward to watching what the upcoming episodes have to offer.

Dr. Ruth Pfau left this world on August 10, 2017. She was a symbol of selflessness and devotion. She was given a state funeral with full national honors.
Usman Mukhtar recently appeared in a podcast with a Vlogger and his friend , where he told people about his struggles. He said no body sees the struggle but success. He said I was a 130 Kg guy and a Binge eater ,I used to remain in my room and it was difficult for me to face the world. I was coping up with depression. People used to think a lot of things are bothering me but I knew inside that nothing is bothering me in real , it just became life style for no reason. I thought I’d never lose that 130 kg weight.
He said success wasn’t easy to me I worked a lot as a film maker, director and Director of Photography but till janan no one knew me , then I came into commercial work and now after Anaa people have started to know me. He said I thank people who love me but I feel I have a long way to go.
Talking about the controversy of Mohsin Abbas Haider he said that
“I had heard a lot about Mohsin Abbas but you cannot believe in the things that you hear but the day you raise hand on a women then it is over. It shows the character of a man if you hit a woman you are not a man”.
He has said it was Naimal who has forced me to do Anaa together, we were friends before Anaa.
He has said Sara Khan is great actress , she is humble and decent and I haven’t seen such decent girl before in the industry.

Pakistan lost cricket legend, Abdul Qadir, last Friday. He was an outstanding leg-spin bowler and an inspiration to the young cricketers. Due to a heart attack, he died at the age of 63.
Many celebrities, cricketers and his fans prayed for the departed soul. Hafiz Muhammad Imran took his twitter and requested PM of Pakistan Imran Khan the name if infantry road Lahore should be changed to Abdul Qadir road in order to pay tribute to the legendary cricketer.
To his tweet, the famous host Fahad Mustafa replied that it’s a great idea. That’s the least we can do for the legend, Abdul Qadir. He himself made a request to PM.

So, it is a thriller based on true events and is called to be most anticipated movie ,well there is a lot of buzz about the different genre of film , which is dark and in Pakistan there are not many movies released about dark genre because there is a limited audience for that and directors and producers don’t want to take risks but Shamoon Abbasi has come up with what he really has a passion about as not every proudcer wants to make a Commercial and Masala film.

Meray Pass Tum Ho is turning out to be a slow-paced drama which is already getting repetitive. The characters have no background, no relatives and their present-day story too is moving forward at a snail’s pace. While it was good to see a few unexpected scenarios in this episode but overall this was another ‘confusing’ episode of Meray Pass Tum Ho which yet again made me wonder if I had missed out on something. Some of the conversations tonight didn’t work for me at all since the heavy duty dialogues did not fit into these simple situations. There is always a way to tell a done-to-death story in a different manner but so far there is nothing ‘refreshing’ about this drama.
Danish’s New ‘Friend’
Tonight’s episode opened with a detailed recap of the last scene of the previous episode followed by another question answer session between Danish and Mehwish. Some of Danish’s dialogues about Mehwish’s character made me cringe and they didn’t go well with his character at all. After the nap, Danish woke up with a different frame of mind and allowed Mehwish to go to the wedding. This was one of those unexpected scenarios which made this episode bearable. Later on, Danish’s decision to be more ‘open-minded’ and him being ‘friends’ with Shahwar was yet another surprise especially considering the fact that Danish does not believe in making friends. Shahwar too was much more contained and in the mood to impress since this time around he was sober. Mehwish’s fixation with Shahwar and the grand wedding once again reflected her interest in material things. While Danish did not think twice about what he was going to wear, Mehwish wanted to look good – probably because she liked all the attention she got.
The Confusions
Danish’s ‘Khuda ki kasam’ was just as difficult to connect to as Mehwish convincing him yet again that Aba was dead and he could go on with his life whichever way he deemed fit. Didn’t he take bribe already? Also, he was more than willing and eager to follow this path until last week. While his confusion is understandable but this entire scenario didn’t make sense. First Danish told Shahwar that he had never taken bribe and then he was shocked that someone was offering him bribe!
Although Mehwish’s character isn’t likable but it makes much more sense than Danish’s character. The fact that Danish is too simple has been well established in these 4 episodes but I am still waiting to know more about Mehwish’s background, I was hoping that she will say something about her family when she talked about Anoushey’s brother’s wedding but I guess her family will always stay a mystery. Once again, Danish forgot the key and Mehwish forgot to tell him that she was going out – a scenario which is being shown repeatedly! Humayun Saeed’s body language in the scene covering Danish’s confusion and fear when he came home with all the money was right on point but Danish’s masoomiyat is more annoying than likable. This masoomiyat is basically there to show that he is not doing any of this out of his own free will but Mehwish is making him take bribe and change everything he has been taught. There is nothing likable about watching a grown man act like a child just like there is nothing fascinating about watching women play the victim in every other drama.
Final Remarks
Danish’s character made me cringe and laugh at the same time. There is nothing new about Mehwish and Shahwar’s track but the way this part of the story is being taken forward is slightly more interesting than Danish and Mehwish’s track. In other plays which followed the same storyline, the men were simple but their masoomiyat was never highlighted in the way it has been in this play. Nadeem Baig has done everything in his power to make every scene look as realistic on screen as possible and the camera work has been superb too but other than that Meray Pass Tum Ho doesn’t have much to offer so far.

Popular Cafe Aylanto in Gulberg, Lahore has been sealed after a raid where numerous bottles of Alcohol were recovered. The police raided the cafe where these alcohol bottles were being served in a regular manner . The police also seized all the bottles they also captured the video of the owners. The local Cafe visitors are saying that it is a normal routine it seems this time they didn’t bribe the police.
People are taking a jab at a system that these things often happen but actions are not always taken.
But we are happy that proper action has been taken in this regard and police have updated all about it which means they were strictly ordered to do such raids and confiscate Alcohol and other stuff that is related to any kind of addiction and has injurious effects.

Azfar Rehman recently appeared in Ahsan Khan’s show Bol Nights along with Sadaf Kanwal. On a question related to Award shows Ahsan Khan Asked, “do awards really matter or change the game of actor?”. Azfar said, “to me, awards really do not matter as I have always been nominated for my hit dramas like I was nominated for Nazar e bad but I didn’t go to Toronto and in LSA 2019 I was supposed to do hosting alongside Mehwish Hayat but on the last moment I refused.
He said that ” I am a party person, I would rather go to a friend’s party comfortably instead of attending award show sitting in a stiff manner and asking the one closest buddies Hey what’s up? In a pretentious tone. He said knowing the reality of those people in real, I can’t sit in pretense in such shows as I am who I am.
He said most of the people are fake in such shows whereas in reality they just say to others like
“Oye chaey laao ” and in formal gatherings, they are simply different people.
He elaborated the whole award shows in a comic way and Ahsan was laughing hard at his satire, also once in same show Faysal Quraishi has opened up about hypocrisy of award shows where ” fresh of the boats ” sit in front rows and the veteran and senior actors sit in third and fourth row. He said I and Humayun have sat at the back.
So yes, we agree that nowadays awards are hyped and overrated but it is actually the talent that breaks all the ratings and Azfar’s Aatish proved to be hit.
Former leg-spin maestro Abdul Qadir Khan died of cardiac arrest at the age of 63 in Lahore. Khan’s son confirmed the demise of the ironic cricketer on Friday. He was shifted to Services Hospital after a heart attack but he couldn’t survive.
Abdul Qadir worked with Pakistan cricket in several capacities. After his cricket career was over, he started running a private cricket academy just outside Gaddafi Stadium.
Pakistan Cricket Board is shocked at the news of Abdul Qadir passing away. PCB and other Pakistani cricketers offered their deepest condolences to his family.

The funeral prayers of renowned TV actor Abid Ali were offered in Karachi’s Bahria Town on Friday.
The veteran TV artist was suffering from a liver ailment and undergoing treatment for it. He passed away late on Thursday.
Faysal Quraishi ,Fahad Mustafa ,Tanveer Jamal ,Sohail Asghar ,Adnan Jillani,Ajab Gul,Noor ul hassan, Irfan motiwala and Qavi Khan attended his funeral prayers only, these were only a few names who attended funeral besides a long list of prominent actors ,the industry is having.
Besides a lot of condolences and heartfelt prayers from this colorful show biz fraternity, not more than ten actors have attended Abid Ali ‘s funeral. There were only a few people in his funeral. It is so sad that such a big actor, such a senior person who has actually worked with almost all of the people from industry but his funeral wasn’t even attended by any of those very new superstars. They just spoke words the internet was buzzing last night with condolences and tributes.
It is indeed a very selfish thing , do artist need an invite for funerals it is strange thing. If he would have been disassociated with acting and fraternity, it was acceptable to see no one there but he was working with almost all of the current actors who posted their pictures along with Abid Ali with long notes of tribute and homage but couldn’t make it to the funeral prayers.
Such things depict an ugly picture of society where we just speak words and practically we do nothing .
