Ali Hamza And Zohaib Kazi To Produce Coke Studio Season 11

Ever since Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood of Strings bid farewell to Coke Studio after wrapping up the tenth season rumors of Noori producing the next season have been resurfacing over social media.

Noori’s manager denied the rumors previously by saying,

“The rumours are false. Noor and Hamza are not involved in producing Coke Studio 11 as of yet,”

But the rumors weren’t entirely false for in a recent Facebook post Coke Studio unveiled Ali Hamza that is one half of Noori The Band along with veteran Zohaib Kazi as the producers of Coke Studio 11th edition.

“We are thrilled to welcome Zohaib Kazi & Ali Hamza as the new producers on Coke Studio. Zohaib & Ali are both Coke Studio veterans, who have played an instrumental role in its success over the years. We cannot wait to share their brilliance with all of you, as we embark on a most exciting new chapter of the Coke Studio Pakistan journey. #CokeStudio”

A source has revealed,

“Hamza will be producing the Coke Studio now. Ali Noor is busy with some of his own projects and will not be able to give time to Coke Studio but Hamza will be taking care of business.”

We can’t wait to see what this new duo is going to bring to the biggest music platform of the country.

Pukaar Episode 5 Review – Tragic!

Ohkay so, this episode of Pukaar was quite depressing which means the emotions were conveyed perfectly. This entire drama week for me was so heavy, first Aairah’s husband died in Khudgarz, then Tabeer’s husband died in Tabeer & now Samra’s husband died in Pukaar, tauba, talk about monotony, anyways!

Well, Fahad couldn’t win the battle for his life & passed away. The news of his death was obviously tragic & shook every single person associated with him. Samra lost the love of her life, Tashfeen & her husband lost their only son. Samra’s parents obviously couldn’t see their only child suffering that too when she deems herself guilty.

The moment Fahad’s father saw Samra, he made sure to remind her that it was because of her that Fahad didn’t go to the village & now he was fighting for his life. Well, he passed away & first half of the episode was covered in the flashbacks. Samra’s father did try to make a point that because Sultan got Fahad involved in the politics, he directed undue attention towards his son, but then again, why would Sultan pay heed to what Samra’s father said because he was too busy holding Samra responsible for everything!

Well, looks like Fahad’s Daadi is going to take revenge from Samra because Fahad’s family unanimously thinks that Samra is the reason why Fahad died, therefore they will make sure to torture her because other than that, they had no reason to keep Samra at their house as it was way too evident that they weren’t sympathizing with Samra to begin with!

Samra’s parents tried their best to take her with them but Samra wanted to be left alone in Fahad’s house. Poor thing doesn’t know what she will be faced with!

Well, honestly speaking, I wish everyone’s makeup apart from Yumna had been a bit realistic because all the characters; Daadi, Tashfeen & Zamani looked too glamorous to be mourning the death of a family member. I must say Zamani is quite annoying, obviously she is doing what usually servants do to stay in the good books of their masters but then again, the actress playing her role & her overall get up is such an eyesore. I wish we get to see less of her in the upcoming episodes which seems highly unlikely but still we can hope for the best. Yumna Zaidi was spot on with her acting & she succeeded in conveying Samra’s pain. I must say the OST is really nice & it helped in conveying the overall sadness that everyone was going through after losing Fahad. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Pukaar.

Belapur Ki Dayan Episode 4 Review – Weekly Dose Of Horror!

Tonight’s episode was frightening, disturbing and engrossing; the mystery, suspense and horror element of this play so far is flawless which is why anyone who will have sleepless nights watching a horror show shouldn’t tune into it. Those people out there (like myself) who enjoy watching such shows should definitely give it a shot because this drama will give you your weekly dose of horror in the right proportion! The performances, direction, situations and the script overall has been up to the mark so far. The constant focus on the horror element of the drama makes it the kind of show which stays with you long after you are done watching it. The camerawork has been brilliant and the execution of the horror scenes has been impressive right from the first episode. Even someone who doesn’t get scared easily will feel every terrifying situation which is being shown.

The new characters in the drama have added to the mystery since not much has been revealed about them but the way these characters have been introduced suggests that each one of them have a story to tell. Tonight’s episode focused on Rameez and Alia since Tasha was in the hospital. Yet again the developments tonight showed that the “dayan” who was after this family will do anything it takes to harm all those people who try to make this house theirs. Since Aziz sahib’s mother too was seen in the previous episode therefore it seems like all those people who lived in that house once never really left this world the way people do once they die. While the women in the house are convinced that this house is possessed, the men continue to be in denial even though they too have been in situations which suggested that there was paranormal activity in the house. Aziz Sahib is the only person who knows what actually happened here when everyone was alive therefore he is the one who will ultimately reveal who the “dayan” is and why his mother continues to have a presence in the house.

Belapur Ki Dayan Episode 4 Review - Weekly Dose Of Horror!

The most frightening and well-executed scene in this episode was the one in which Alia calls Rameez and begs him to come home. This entire scenario gave me goose bumps and even when Rameez came back there was no way of knowing whether he really was the actual person or not! Osama Tahir’s performance tonight was brilliant as usual, he is a confident actor who never fails to impress. I am definitely looking forward to his future projects already.

I missed watching Sarah Khan in this episode since she has been performing exceptionally well and the last 3 episodes focused on her more than any other character. Am I the only one who is getting impatient already? I can’t wait to find out what role Irfan Khoosat’s character is playing in this entire situation and why is this house haunted. All the horror scenes tonight were impactful because they were written and executed brilliantly. I would highly recommend this show to all those viewers out there who like watching such shows since so far this is turning out to be one of the best horror shows which we have seen on our television screens since the plot and the execution is original as well as enticing.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Sana Safinaz Accused Of Racism

Sana Safinaz came under the fire back in 2012 for it’s poor campaign choice and the famous brand has done it again. As some see the campaign as a representation of African culture other’s accuse the campaign for using black people as props and of culture appropriation.

Here’s what twitter had to say about the new Sana Safinaz spring collection,

One of the users said,

“#SanaSafinaz learned nothing from their infamous ‘coolie’ ad campaign a few years ago. Now they’re at it again appropriating African culture and using black people as props. Apparently #racism sells! @sanasafinazoff”

While another one called Pakistanis out for their deeply rooted racism,

“sana safinaz a large pakistani clothing brand using native africans and their culture as props. yall still want to tell me the deep rooted racism in pakistan is not there? try again”

https://twitter.com/sosunm/status/971535020056756225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftribune.com.pk%2Fstory%2F1654567%2F4-sana-safinaz-faces-backlash-racist-campaign%2F

Some users said the campaign was very disturbing,

“I am sorry am I missing something here with this campaign? Sanasafinaz using these people as an ornament to selling their over priced lawn?? Mind blown at why they would deem this acceptable to the slightest. #disturbingAF”

One of the users said she’d be boycotting the brand this year,

“#SanaSafinaz using African culture as subservient props for a shoot is exactly why I’m not buying their lawn this time! This isn’t the first time this brand decided to appropriate a group of people who are often referred as disadvantaged #BoycottSanaSafinaz @sanasafinazoff”

Many users thought the campaign exploited black people and reduced them to the status of accessories,

let’s talk about the regressive, racist, downright offensive sana safinaz shoot. it’s 2018 & they think it’s okay to use black figures as accessories and exploit black culture as a means to sell overpriced lawn?matlub koi sharam hoti hai k oi hayah hoti hai.”

So far there hasn’t been a response from Sana Safinaz.

What’s your opinion of the campaign, share with us in the comments section.

Celebrities Celebrate Women’s Day 2018

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year. It commemorates the movement for women’s rights. March 8 was suggested by the 1910 International Socialist Woman’s Conference to become an “International Woman’s Day.” After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.

As the world celebrates women and vows to empower them so do our celebrities and this is what they had to say this women’s day.

“I want to make a film with Fawad Khan” Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

“Ban Pakistani Artists” movement first started in India around 2016. Shortly after the call for the ban, some Indian political outfits threatened Pakistani actors from entering the country and in retaliation Pakistani theatres pulled down Indian movies from their big screens.

The issue resurfaced last month when Union Minister Babul Supriyo said that Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s song Ishtehaar in the Bollywood film Welcome to New York must be dubbed by someone else. Supriyo also demanded a ban on Pakistani artistes in Bollywood.

During a panel discussion ‘Controlling creativity: Is censorship relevant?’ alongside veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal at the Ficci Frames 2018 The national award-winning filmmaker Shonali Bose said the calls of bans on talent should be stopped. She also said though she wishes to cast Fawad Khan in a film she can’t do so owing to a ban on Pakistani actors in the country.

"I want to make a film with Fawad Khan" Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

Responding to a question on how the constant restrictions from the Central Board of Film Certification is affecting the creativity and freedom of expression, Shonali said,

“Instead of taking action to protect the rights of women and project their image under the right light, they are restricting filmmakers from doing their work freely.”

She continued,

“Cinema should be free… For instance, Pakistani actors are not allowed to work in Indian films, and this decision is supported by Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association. What if I want to make a film with Fawad Khan?”

"I want to make a film with Fawad Khan" Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

When the moderator of the panel mentioned that her comment might earn her the title of an “anti-national”, Bose replied,

“That is the problem with our country nowadays. I speak of friendship between two countries. I want to make a film with Fawad Khan and nobody will allow me to make the film; producer will not back the film because of the risk and fear that has been created around it,”

For a country that faces problems like poverty, over population and rape Indian government seems way too focused on banning films and artists. This blind hatred for art and expression of speech will only end up destroying what’s left of the already ruined relationship between our countries.

Riz Ahmed visited Pakistan recently to speak at Lahore Literary Festival after which the Star War star spent some time in Karachi as well. The actor who hasn’t been to motherland in past 13 years said that he was overwhelmed by the experience and will be posting pictures from his trip on his Instagram soon. But what he posted is much more than just vacation pictures.

Ahmed spent some time with the transgender community and shared their story with his followers,

“The transgender community has been an established part of South Asian culture for hundreds of years. You see many many more transgender people walking around in Pakistan than in New York or London.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf-0PSsBYvp/?taken-by=rizahmed

He further said,

“In recent times Pakistan has even had a recognised ‘third gender’ on official government documents, cementing their place in society. Despite this recognition however, they are marginalised and often earn a living through dancing, sex work or a kind of spiritual begging.”

Riz Ahmed Talks About Transgenders In Pakistan And More

Apart from highlighting the lives of transgenders in Pakistan he also shared some pictures of our well known truck culture and wrote,

“No one does cars, trucks & lorries like us”

“Juna Market & Johriya Bazaar, one of the older bits of Karachi. Most of this huge city is much newer. Used to be only half a million people til Partition in 1947. Now well over 20million call it home, mostly from India and elsewhere in Pakistan. A city of migrants.”

Aangan Episode 18 Review – Hilarious!

Ohkay so, like I always say, what an amazing episode of Aangan. Seriously, Kudos to Faiza Iftikhar & the entire team for painting such a realistic & perfect picture of a typical desi wedding which is full of so many hiccups & people who come with their own agendas. I just don’t remember watching a Pakistani drama in such a long time which made me laugh so much & to be honest, Aangan happens to be one such drama that makes me happy. What a perfect entertainment!

So, Zoya Aqdas wedding was in full bloom with the Mehandi function. Shafiq actually came to attend the wedding & surprise everyone but then again, Abba Jee gave him a cold shoulder. Shafiq turned out to be a typical overseas returned desi who completely forgot growing up in this very environment because now he saw the entire wedding & the trouble of arranging it as a nuisance. Shafiq’s constant reminders of ‘mai isi liye Pakistan nahi ata’ were so funny. In stead of using this time to reconnect with his family & curbing his differences with Abba Jee’s, Shafiq continued to play the victim as if he didn’t hurt Abba Jee & he was being wrong in not treating Shafiq with the affection that he was entitled to!

So, Allaudin once again found a reason to be upset about, which was his matching Kurta with Abba Jee. Allaudin just can not come to terms with the fact that he is one of the elders of the family, that he is way too older than Aqdas, the chota damaad of the family & that is why he was keen on wearing that Green Kurta which the youngsters were wearing. I am sure if they had given him the Green Kurta, he would’ve complained that he was being put on the same pedestal as the bachas of the family, lol. Aalu & his issues!

Well, Faseeha came with her Jethani & Nand & they proved that they were those typical aunties who are avoided by every single person of the family because they find problem with every little thing & create issues over tissues. As if bickering with each other wasn’t enough that they started dragging the girls who were singing songs & also raised question over Zaitoon, Anila & Zoya’s age.

Well, Abba Jee’s cousin & childhood friend Bilqees made an apperance too. It seems Abba Jee has a soft corner for Billo that is why he not only made sure to invite her but also went out of his way to make her feel at home by taking care of her comfort. I loved the late night session that Abba Jee & Bilqees had, it was like Billo was the part of Abba Jee’s childhood that wasn’t lost. The way they both recalled old days & all the activities that they used to do was so cute but something that was even better was Zaitoon’s restlessness because she was clearly & rationally jealous. Bilqees’s fight with Aqdas’s aunts was also so very funny, it was like she knew how they had to be responded whereas everyone else on Zoya’s side apart from Anila was being mindful of the fact that they were larki walay so they had to tolerate everything. ‘Kissay di assi Majj churai hai’ has to be my favorite dialogue of this drama so far, lol!!!!

I loved this episode just so much. It is so amazing how watching this wedding takes you down the memory lane & makes you think about the things you might have seen or heard while attending your family weddings too. The way Anila reminded Rubina that she was wearing an old dress was also something that often turns out to be a conversation starter at desi weddings where everyone keenly remembers everyone else’s formal dresses.

I think I now desperately want to see a change in the equation that Zahid & Rubina share, something more, something new, something different please. Oh well, who would’ve thought that Sajjad will tackle Allaudin so intelligently, he just knew that Allu was trying to get some scoop on personal family matter therefore he told him to arrange someone who could take care of dholki, something that would distract him at least for the moment. Asim & Sajjad’s reactions were priceless when they knew they had taken care of Allu the best way possible, lol. I must say, I felt some sort of pity when Anila kept on lying to Allaudin to boost his ego & he immediately agreed to be at the wedding on time because Anila said what he wanted to hear. Allaudin is someone who just wants to be the center of attention, he likes to be praised even for the things he doesn’t do & since this is what Anila did, he seemed happy to be taking a part in Zoya’s wedding.

I must say, the way Faiza Iftikhar has etched out all these characters is amazing. Everyone has a unique but relatable personality & to keep them true to themselves till this stage of the drama is commendable. From Abba Jee to Shaina, every single one of them contributes & makes this drama complete. The way all these actors deliver the dialogues with so much of ease & effortlessness goes to show how they have owned these characters & are literally living them. I must say all the ladies looked so lovely with those beautiful dresses & heavy jewellery. Can’t wait to see more. Please share your thoughts about this hilarious episode of Aangan.

Cheers,

Tabeer Episode 3 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode of Tabeer, though dramatic was really nice. Even though the story has been quite simple & predictable but it does look like the side characters are going to add that much needed flavour in this drama.

So, Tabeer found out about Yasir & her life turned upside down. Tabeer was someone who couldn’t even see Yasir down with a mere fever so for her to endure the painful news of Yasir’s passing was beyond imagination.

Fawad’s mother continued to spew venom against Yasir because she is so self-centered to think beyond herself & even for once show consideration about someone else. Fawad was also deeply affected by Yasir’s demise that is why he not only went to attend the funeral, but also tried to help his family financially.

Yasir’s first cousin Ajju happens to be quite a manipulative person that is why he lied to Fawad & also kept half of the amount he gave for the rituals. I actually thought Ajju’s brother would be a decebt person but even he kept half of the remaining amount as well. I don’t know why but I found that scene emotionally very disturbing when Yasir’s grandmother accepted that measly amount with so much of gratitude, my heart broke for her because while she was mourning the death of her grandson, she had no idea that there were vultures around her who were literally taking advantage of Yasir even after his death!

Ajju & his brother are obviously irresponsible beings who don’t really know how to fend for themselves, therefore they came up with a plan that they’d start living at Yasir’s house, which means they will create more issues for Tabeer & Daadi.

On the other hand, Zarnish contacted Sana, a heart-broken depressed soul who obviously has been rejected by Fawad that is why I think Zarnish contacted her to speak to her. I think Zarnish will request Sana to take care of Fawad after she is no more but then that place will be taken by Tabeer & Sana will be left heart broken once again.

This episode of Tabeer was definitely good. The preview suggested that the trials in the life of Tabeer are far from being over. With Daadi’s demise, Tabeer will be left all alone & not sure how she will be able to deal with Ajju & his family. Looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts.

Cheers,

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 18 Review – Truly Impressive

Tonight’s episode of Dar Si Jati Hei Sila was yet again right on point and some of the dialogues today were so impressive that they should be heard over and over again. The way Zaini defined “hud” when Sila tried to calm her down by saying that Joi never crossed his limits was the highlight of tonight’s episode. This drama has the kind of messages which we do not get to see in our dramas. Many recent dramas have highlighted the issue of rape and Udaari also showed how a rape victim can turn from a victim to a survivor who can fight for herself but Dar Si Jati Hei Sila shows that a man also violates a girl when he touches her without her consent. Although, this concept is pretty basic but Sadia’s attitude tonight reflected the manner in which such actions are viewed by majority of people in our society and perhaps in many other parts of the world. Although Sila gets intimidated by Joi for other reasons as well but I loved the fact that the writer made it really clear that a girl sets the boundaries in such relationships, if she does not like someone touching her or even looking at her in a certain way than it is wrong no matter what people around her say. This isn’t the first time that Bee Gul has highlighted something like this and it didn’t come as a surprise too that she did it so well! The dialogues which portrayed different sets of mind in that house and represent different mindsets in our society couldn’t have been better. These conversations were logical and to the point therefore effective. The fact that all the actors in this drama have translated their characters faultlessly on screen definitely helps.

Nadia’s character had added a new dimension to all the tracks and has shown how “flexible” some of the most rigid and stubborn people in Noor Manzil are! Bari Aapa who likes to dictate everything to everyone else in the house is completely helpless when it comes to Nadia simply because she isn’t the kind of person who takes dictation! Nadia’s approach and Joi and Bari Aapa’s attitude towards her in particular shows that how much difference someone who is vocal and confident can make. Nadia of course isn’t like Zaini because so far she doesn’t have a positive streak in her personality but her character is interesting enough and her questions and objections are most often valid! Bari Aapa’s logic for not hiring servants in the previous episode and Nadia’s reply was very amusing just like everything else she has done ever since she step foot in Noor Manzil. Just like Joi she has absolutely no boundaries and she doesn’t think there is anything wrong with flirting with men as long as she calls them “bhai”!! She is completely different from everyone else in Noor Manzil and the only positive aspect of her personality so far is that she is not a hypocrite. Kiran Haq is a brilliant actress who always does complete justice to every role she opts to play. Just like Yumna Zaidi and Nauman Ijaz she has worked with Kashif Nisar before too and all these talented individuals always make the perfect team. All of them have worked on their outlooks as well as their acting which is why this drama overall always has a realistic touch.

The change in Sila’s personality after Raheel said all those wonderful things about her was the most emotional part of tonight’s episode. This development, the changes in Sila after talking to Raheel and the turn she took after her mother told her what she had probably said to her a million times before was extremely poignant. Yumna Zaidi and Saman Ansari continue to be absolutely amazing in their respective roles. Amna Malick and Osama Tahir have brought out the best in their characters, although their characters are likeable as it is but their acting makes them even more pleasant. The fact that Sila isn’t fighting this battle alone and has enlightened people who are willing to go out of their way to help her makes this whole situation more interesting and there is hope that she will eventually get herself, her mother and Hatim out of this situation. The scene in which Sila goes and asks her mother why she never told her just how amazing she was, was absolutely phenomenal. So far most of the people in the house including Sikandar have thought of Joi as a harmless man – someone they can trust and confide in – but will all that change now that Nadia is there to give them a different perspective?

Zaini and Raheel are on the right track now therefore it will probably not take them long to find out what has been going on in Noor Manzil for so many years but like Zaini and Raheel said nothing can really change until and unless Sila decides to take a stand for herself! Really looking forward to how and when that would happen.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila is a must watch play for all those people out there who are sick and tired of watching dramas which sugarcoat and commercialize important social issues. It has never failed to impress and has tons to offer. I cannot appreciate all those people who put in their genuine efforts into this project since a drama like this one can never be a commercial hit but our drama makers should continue making such plays so that there is something on television for people who want to watch quality dramas! We need dramas which serve a bigger purpose and this one definitely fits the bill.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

“Me and my female co-actors, I think we all fight for our rights” Mahira Khan

Mahira Khan has been very vocal lately be it the #MeToo or Time’s Up campaign or some other political view she isn’t holding back. In a recent interview with Newsweek ahead of her UK visit the Verna starlet had some wisdom to share.

When asked of the brief ban on Verna the actress said,

“We knew there are certain things that have been said in this film that won’t go down well with certain people, certain institutions. And they didn’t. There was a feeling of, OK, it’s been banned—now what do we do? There was a handful of people who did not want it to go out, and then there was the entire brigade of people—a society—who created an uproar and said they want this film to be released,”

She continued,

“That pressure caused them to release the film. I don’t know what the outcome of Verna would have been 20 years ago, or 25 years ago, or 10 years ago even. But today people are like, ‘We’re not going to let you ban this film.’ I actually thought, OK, this is banned, or there will be several cuts. There were no cuts in the film. It only happened because people got up and talked about it—journalists, Twitter, talk shows debating it. There was enough pressure and it got released.”

"Me and my female co-actors, I think we all fight for our rights" Mahira Khan

“More than anything, Verna talks about power. Whether we talk about misogyny or patriarchal society or even abuse, they’re an act of power,”

When asked of what was it about the script or the project in particular that made her sign up for Verna she said,

“When I heard the story, all I knew was there are lines in the film that I wanted to be able to say. There were a lot of other great commercial projects that were around at the same time, but as an actor, it was a hunger to be able to be part of something like this.”

"Me and my female co-actors, I think we all fight for our rights" Mahira Khan

Speaking about whether the “Time’s Up” campaign is crossing into the Pakistani film industry, the Bol actor said,

“There are certain themes running through the world that are very similar. Whatever is happening there is happening here. People are raising their voice there; women are raising their voices here. There’s a very similar pattern in this country as well. We are having constant debate about gender equality, we are talking about women, women in films, the kind of roles written for women. It has trickled down,”

She added,

“I would like better stories, and I want to see better roles for men and women. As far as tackling things like pay parity, in this industry, that is also being talked about. I think most of us—me and my female co-actors—I think we all fight for our rights. I think we’re creating a good groundwork for future generations,”

"Me and my female co-actors, I think we all fight for our rights" Mahira Khan

Further, regarding India recently upholding its ban on Pakistani talent in Indian films, the actor said,

“I wish it was within our hands or our control. But it isn’t. It’s something governments are deciding, and so be it.”

Akhri Station Episode 4 Review – Tragic

Hats off to the director and writer for finding such realistic details about the dark corners of our society and highlighting them like this. If only they show solutions at the end and as a society we manage to put systems in place for such people will the real purpose be served. Nonetheless, it is a good start and will give a lot of women hope to fight their circumstances especially after they see the worst of worst some ladies have to face and all of it due to no fault of their own. More heartbreaking is the fact that young children are subjected to such poverty and adversity so early on in their lives. This puts them at a great disadvantage right from their early years.

This episode was the story of Safiya, played by Farah Tufail and she was simply outclass in her performance. Her makeup free face, ratted clothes, empty eyes and superb expressions was totally on point. She pulled everyone along with herself into the desperation she was feeling, the loneliness and the uncertainty. She is an orphan who has no one except an older sister who tries to help her out despite her own meager resources and a mamoo who brought her into his son’s life and then forgot all responsibility.

Her husband Pervez is a good for nothing man who has fallen into the clutches of heroine addiction. Despite her desperate pleas for help from her inlaws, they don’t pay any heed and Pervez starts selling household items and then stealing from anyone who will be naive enough to trust him.

Akhri Station Episode 4 Review - Tragic

Safia and her sister still try to encourage her and make him come back towards life, but he falls too deep into addiction to have any willpower left to return to normalcy. Eventually this addiction takes gets him infected with HIV and he has transferred that to his wife. However, on accidentally discovering that Safia has the disease too, her inlaws ignorantly and mercilessly throw her out of their house. That leaves the mother and daughter with no option except to go live with her sister. Pervez tried to come back there as well but he is still too addicted to be loyal to anyone else or even himslef. Sadly, Safia finds his dead body’s picture in newspaper and goes on to request his parents for his burial. They again refuse and she now has no option except to cry some tears over the useless life and terrible end of the man she had once married with hopes and dreams.

Life slowly starts becoming smooth for as she works as a maid in other people’s homes and keeps herself occupied with her daughter. Fate however has other plans and her brother in law gets to know about her being HIV positive. She overheard him screaming at her sister for putting them all at risk by keeping her sick sister in the house. Though the drama ended there but this what must have prompted her to travel to Karachi to find a hope for cure so she can live long enough to fulfill her daughter’s responsibilities to save her from the fate she herself had to bear.

It was an utterly depressing story but we had to see this because this is what is happening in our society. These people, their families and their innocent kids need serious help which is only available to the very rich who can afford such centres. There is a desperate need for quality addiction centres that are free for all and totally take over the responsibility for families as well. You cannot help but root for this young woman with sad eyes to find some happiness and health in her life for once. Very well acted by Farah Tufail.

Khudgarz Episode 20 Review – Heart-breaking!

Sigh! This episode was just so heart breaking but then again, the writer Rida Bilal deserves a perfect score for keeping things just so real. I must say the way the reactions of everyone were conveyed was just so realistic because in times like these, you are left with nothing but regrets because life hits you so hard & is always unpredictable!

Junaid imagined living his life peacefully with his child & his wife in this new apartment that he finally chose for himself & his family. He was just so happy because it was something that he knew Aairah wanted. This little apartment actually meant the beginning of new phase in their lives where they could finally be themselves, all settled, all happy but little did they know what life had in store for them.

Hassan finally gave words to every little detail, all the emotions, all those feelings that he experienced during his stay with Omar. Hassan was full of regrets, he knew that he might have lost every single chance of forgiveness because may be everyone will have a hard time believing him that he had actually changed & was ashamed over what he did in the past. Omar encouraged Hassan as he knew that he reached that state mentally & emotionally where he could see his family & apologize for what he did all these years!

Aairah had to go to the hospital & Junaid got to know about it. The moment he started having flashbacks, that’s when I actually thought that things might go wrong & sadly, it turned out to be what we all so didn’t want. Junaid couldn’t make it to the hospital to be able to see his daughter, to see Aairah. Once again, as heart-wrenching as it is, young untimely deaths shake everyone to the core & unfortunately, everyone in this case was a lot more regretful because they all knew how they wronged Junaid, how much they hurt him & played a part in his heart attack!

Be it Rabeea, be it Munawwar, Salma, Raheel, Abeer, Abeer’s mother & lastly Hassan, every single one of them grieved & mourned Junaid’s death because they knew that he left too soon & ended up leaving such a big void in their lives. Munawwar remembered all those harsh words that he said to Junaid few days before his death & guess what, as ashamed, as apologetic he was, Junaid couldn’t hear his apology. Hassan recalled how he never really treated Junaid with respect. Rabeea mourned as she knew how miserable his life was & how he never really complained & when it came to Aairah, her reaction ‘meri abbhi to baat hui thi’ was such a true depiction of how such news is met because no one can ever come to terms with such a young, tragic, untimely & sudden death.

Hassan was on his way to make amends & he was looking forward to meet Junaid the most but unfortunately, Junaid was no more, he was not going to be there to be able to forgive him, to share how hurt he was, to say anything to him. Hassan went back to Omar, in stead of going to his house because he knew he won’t be able to look into everyone’s eyes, he won’t be able to see Junaid all lifeless whereas he imagined meeting him thinking Junaid will put his heart to ease.

This episode was so so so heart breaking, even though the focus was only on Junaid’s death but that entire aspect couldn’t have been covered any other way because everyone’s reaction deserved a proper screen time. The moment where Aairah was waiting for Junaid while talking about how his daughter resembled him was so so heart breaking & emotional, she really didn’t know what was coming her way. It is so going to be a tough journey for Aairah from now on. Acting, writing & direction; absolutely phenomenal. I really don’t know what more to say, as I am actually sad! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Khudgarz.

Cheers,

ps: Time to get a new TV as like I said, I am throwing this one out. Team Khudgarz better reimburse!

Thank You For Banning Us India Says Adnan Shah Tipu

A huge fiasco went on when India initially banned Pakistani artists more specifically Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan from working in Bollywood. Their movies Raees and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil where Fawad had a cameo came under a lot of fire. Consequently, there were no more projects for the stars. Recently, an Indian minister talked about banning Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Saba Qamar who did Hindi Medium is also not going to be a part of the sequel. So, India has officially banned Pakistani artists to work in any of their media.

India Officially Bans Pakistani Artists!

Albeit almost entire industry chose to stay quiet on the topic but Adnan Shah Tipu who has worked in Bollywood previously had something to say. In a video on Shahroz Sabzwari’s facebook he said,

“Thank you for banning us. You have given us a chance to make an Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah and other big stars in Pakistan. You banned Pakistani players from Indian Premiere League (IPL), but then Pakistan Super League (PSL) happened.”

The actor has worked in numerous Bollywood projects such as Himesh Reshammiya’s Kajraare and Arshad Warsi’s Welcome to Karachi. Talking about his experience while working across the border, Tipu said,

I have worked in India. People showed me a lot of love. But what does this ban mean? You don’t get our bread and butter. It is up to God.Your ban doesn’t change two facts. Facts that no one should ever forget. First, your paternity. Second, your nationality. My father’s name is Ghazanfar Ali Shah. I’m from Faisalabad, Dhobi Ghat, Pakistan. That’s not going to change,”

Thank You For Banning Us India Says Adnan Shah Tipu

The Maalik star further added,

“I did a film in 2007. I wasn’t starving back then. Therefore, because of your ban, neither Fawad Khan nor Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will starve. Pakistan is my mother. If I say anything to your mother, you will feel offended. Likewise, if you say anything about my mother, will I be ecstatic about it?”

He concluded,

“So, here’s what I have to say. Go play your game, we will play ours. You’ve banned us. Thank you very much.”

“Pakistan above all.”

All his followers on facebook had nothing but love for this man for taking a stand while the rest of our industry is restraining from giving any response.

Dil Nawaz Last Episode Review-Simply Superb!

0

This drama is such a game-changer and the ending is, how to explain it, too unexpected and out of the box. Let’s get to a bit of flashback and talk about this masterpiece as I am not going to spoil the ending because, People! You should watch it. A horror genre always involves flying objects with scary looking churails who have blood dripping from their mouths even without sucking it off anyone’s neck. But Dil Nawaz is such a beautiful script, it had emotions and suspense beautifully interwoven with the supernatural. Yes, it had some dramatic things but we know, its fiction and the good thing is most of the stuff was very close to the experiences we see people narrating who are affected by the supernatural stuff. A huge round of applause for writer Nabeel Syed. It is a beautiful love story and the characters he has written should be included among this year’s best. He totally expressed the original face of a living creature. You are never black or white, you are always grey. From Dil Nawaz to Alam Ara, you can never truly hate a character because they had reasons, even for the bad things they were doing. And here you have to love Najaf Bilgrami’s direction. He made the viewers connect to each character. The way he made the story progress with every episode showing the story progressing and not reasonlessly dragging the situation, he translated the story beautifully on screen. He showed everyone that you can do it 26 episodes and it will still look good.

Dil Nawaz Last Episode Review-Simply Superb!

Since you all know about the situation of our award shows, it is highly unlikely but I think Neelam Muneer should be given a nomination for this performance. She just nailed it. At some point in the drama, even I fell in love with her character. She was graceful in all her scenes, not over-doing anything and she showed how an actress should show with her work that why the drama is named after her character. The other performances which stood out are of Zainab Qayyum and Nida Mumtaz. Both the ladies did justice to their roles. Nida was a very over-protective and obsessive mother while Alam Ara played by Zainab was done in an excellent way. She was evil, you hated her one second and the other you were okay with it. Wahaj Ali also tried to get a hundred percent hang of Fawad. He was a bit sloppy at some points but mostly was very good in all the scenes especially the ones where he is under Dil Nawaz’s spell.

With watching a lot of dramas, I mostly like most of the viewers know how a series is going to end. Believe it or not, I even guessed that Afzal would die in Pyare Afzal lol. I was expecting a happy reunion today with maybe Dil Nawaz realizing she is not fit with Fawad but the writer got me. Dil Nawaz has also inspired many others to start making horror genre series. Yes, it promoted a bit of dhaga and darbar culture but they didn’t overdo it.

Have you guys watched the last episode of Dil Nawaz? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it and please mention is it just me or the theme music and OST grows on you?

Noor ul Ain Episode 4 Review – Pretty Basic!

Ohkay so, it was a pretty basic & predictable episode of Noor ul Ain. It is a fact that only because of Sajal Ali & Imran Abbas & Sarmad Sultan Khoosat’s direction, this drama is getting the attention & viewership, otherwise the story & the characters so far are quite typical & have been-there-seen-that written all over them. Having said that, I will still say that I didn’t have any issues sitting through this episode, but I am actually looking forward to the beginning of Noor & Khizar’s journey together!

So, Khizar’s mother finally agreed that she would meet Noor. I think because she knew that her son won’t sit still till she fulfills his wish, she went ahead with it otherwise she was never in a mood to do so. Khizar made sure that he puts a good word for Noor & her family in front of his mother but she already had preconceived notions & she was sticking to her perspective without even trying to give Noor & her family a chance!

Ghazala’s reaction was pretty interesting, she obviously posed to be happy for Noor but deep inside she was disturbed that Khizar’s family was actually approaching Qasim for Noor’s proposal. To be honest, even though Noor’s mother is shown to be a very typical woman with one dimensional mindset where she doesn’t want her daughters to do anything that might buy them an unwanted attention, but somehow, I find her character off-putting. Ever since the drama has began, Noor’s mother has only nagged & complained, which I am not a fan of. On the other hand, Qasim’s character is likable because he is like that affectionate father who not only believes in his daughters but also gives them the edge to be themselves.

Well, Noor seemed excited to meet Khizar’s mother too but before that, she was skeptical as she felt everything was happening a bit too quickly. Obviously, Noor knew that Khizar wanted everything to happen as soon as possible but little did she know that his mother had something else on her mind & she wanted to get done with this entire chapter ASAP.

Well, Khizar’s mother came & the moment she stepped a foot inside Noor’s home, she started belittling her family. It was interesting to see her condescending attitude where she never once blamed Khizar but kept on holding Noor responsible for having an affair with Khizar. Well, Qasim in a very polite manner voiced his concerns but it looked like Ghazala was just waiting for things to go wrong & the moment she got an opportunity, she made sure to take things a bit too far so that there were no chances of Khizar’s mother to approach them ever again. To be honest, I have been getting a few comments saying Noor ul Ain’s story is lifted from Bollywood’s Movie ‘Saathiya’ & this entire proposal scene reminded me exactly of that. Before this scene, I was seeing this drama for what it is, but this particular scene forced me to see the similarities as well!

Noor was obviously unhappy with whatever happened & she immediately drew the line. This was the first ever misunderstanding that Noor & Khizar had but even though Noor didn’t say anything to Khizar, he knew exactly that his mother was capable of stirring the pot, that is why even after listening to his mother’s version, he chose not to believe it & decided to see Noor himself to find out what exactly happened.

Overall, it was a simple episode but I am keen on some fireworks which might happen once Noor & Khizar will be together. The acting & the direction has been spot on so far. Please share your thoughts.

Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Khamoshi Episode 22 Review-Food Leads To Love!

0

Yessss! Finally, an episode which was cute through and through and things all the viewers wanted to see have initiated. Episode 22 is a good day in our Khamosh boy’s life. After doing a lot of good for our Khamosh larki and getting his feelings snubbed by her every time, finally, she is falling. We saw you falling for Shahram today Arsala and we are happy that you are using your brain to feel for your own self. The relationship between these two has been portrayed very beautifully and it was a much-needed progression after Naima’s Atif kaho main lakhon main aik hoon stuff. Pakistanis love food and our food always pay a greater role in our lives than just being a daily necessity. After Kashaf falling for Zaroon on getting burned by the iconic chai ka cup, here is our Arsala falling for Shahram over khaney ka bartan. So food did for him what Shahram was not really being able to do for himself, after all his endeavours for Arsala. She REALLY noticed his care and love!

Khamoshi Episode 22 Review-Food Leads To Love!

Since Khamoshi has started we see Mirza Sahab wandering here and there for no big reasons. But today, Mirza Sahab rocked. He served as an eye-opener for Atif and the way he showed Naima her place was love. Atif is somewhat back in senses after being confused for so long. He is regretting and since there is nothing left he can do, he is subtly trying to save his ego by chanting Main Arsala se nafrat karta hoon over and over.

Naima is finally starting to face karma. She does not have the money anymore. Atif hates her and loved how her mother in law clarified the whole situation for her. Her situation can also be explained as episode 22 was a bad day for our Naima. It is always good to see annoying and evil characters tasting the piece of their own cake. Shahnaz is still very annoying though. She is constantly blaming Arsala for everything and wants her to loot a bank maybe for her committees.

It was the best episode so far. Zara Noor Abbas and Bilal Khan were too good in all their scenes. They looked natural and were successful in bringing an air of innocence with their chemistry. Shahram’s flower scene with Bee Jaan was also super cute. Looks like Bee Jaan will end up at Shahram’s house.

Shayyad Episode 17 & 18 Review – Poorly Edited But Intriguing

Shayyad has an interesting storyline and some of the performances keep you glued to the television screen but episode 17 in particular was poorly edited because of which the timeline was seriously confusing and the episode overall didn’t have a proper flow. Although, tonight’s episode didn’t have glaring editing mistakes but the timing of some of the developments was somewhat odd – Hani walking out of the house with Salar hours after dada passed away was really strange. Saad and Hani’s track however continues to be the most appealing aspect of the show even though some very important developments in these two episodes weren’t covered as flawlessly as they were in the past few weeks even then this track keeps your interest alive.

Tania finally found out who the love of Saad’s life was and Hani decided to go back to Salar because she could tell what Saad was going to do next if she stayed any longer. Tania’s reaction and Hani’s decision both made perfect sense but it was disappointing to see how the flashback scenes were forced into many scenes and disrupted the flow of these scenes. These flashback scenes were unnecessary since they were used excessively and at times they didn’t even make sense. Tania was shown hearing Saad and Hani talk at the end of episode 16 but in episode 17 she seemed pretty normal and later on we saw that the mayun was yet to take place! The confusing timeline definitely killed the kind of impact these scenes could have had. Uzair Jaswal’s performance and Saad’s character however saved the day yet again. It is always easy relating to Saad’s character and feeling for him no matter how badly executed an episode is. Also, since the pace of these two episodes was fast therefore even with these flaws they were intriguing enough.

Shayyad Episode 17 & 18 Review - Poorly Edited But Intriguing

Dada’s death reminded me of the time when Saad was hoping he would die so that Hani wouldn’t get married. Saad’s scene with Dada was one of the best scenes in this episode but the family wasn’t shown remembering him the way they should have had. Mahpara finally decided to move on and Tania was shown pursuing her dad’s case in these episodes. Tania never got the opportunity to talk to her father about Saad and Hani but her reaction showed that she was going to be more “understanding” than any other girl in her situation would be. Right now Saad’s mother is the only person who would stand in the way of Saad and Hani’s marriage other than that everyone would be more than willing to let them have their happily ever after. Uzair Jaswal shares amazing on-screen chemistry with all his co-stars which is why even though some of the performances leave a lot to be desired but the scenes are always convincing.

These two episodes had quite a few impressive and meaningful dialogues. The background score however in some of the scenes was so loud that these dialogues were barely audible. In the past 15 weeks or so the director utilized the flashback scenes in the most creative manner but in these two episodes there were many which could have been easily chopped down. Even though the director failed to do justice to these two really important episodes, the story as a whole remains interesting and unlike many other recent dramas this one is not being stretched. Every episode has something important to offer and always gives you a reason to look forward to more. Even with all the glitches here and there, Shayyad continues to be entertaining because of its storyline. I am sure I am not the only one rooting for Saad and Hani and I am even waiting to see Mahpara ending up with someone who will value her. Salar’s track’s ending is highly unpredictable as well therefore intriguing.

How many of you watched these episodes? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about them.

Team ‘Zun Mureed’ Is NOT Amused

‘Zun Mureed’ has been making headlines for quite some time now and for all the right reasons, the play talks about domestic violence and it’s impact on the families, the play also happens to be Nadia Khan’s first show after a seventeen year long break.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lkk1CZncL2E

Team Zun Mureed was seen on Jago Pakistan Jago on 2nd of March 2018 for the promotion of their play and to explain everything that this play stands for the play was aired on Hum TV later that night. After the morning show lead actor Omair Rana took to his facebook and talked about how upset he is over the type of treatment this play got from this morning show. He seemed offended by how the true essence of the play was tarnished in order to gain ratings.

Team 'Zun Mureed' Is NOT Amused

Hina Bayat also shared the same views and apologized to the viewers for what they had to witness that morning, she further said that whatever stunt was pulled during the show was absolutely without their consent team Zun Mureed never agreed to any of it.

Team 'Zun Mureed' Is NOT Amused

She further continued,

Team 'Zun Mureed' Is NOT Amused

Our morning shows haven’t offended someone for the first time, the utter cringefest that our morning shows have become needs to be stopped instead of normalizing or even worse trivializing this subject. These shows have a massive viewership which puts an even huge responsibility on the shoulders of creators of these shows, take the high road for heavens sake, for the love of God put content over ratings. Akhri Station Episode 3 Review – Less Impressive

First of all, this review has been delayed due to extremely adverse weather conditions and communication disruption in this part of the world.

Coming to the third episode, the story line and plot was very realistic  and very relatable, but the acting and screen play left a lot to be desired. Malika Zafar starts the story by acknowledging that it is not as bad as the atrocities suffered by Yasmeen and Gulmeena. However, that was an understatement since even though her problems were not as basic as being asked to sell her body for food in the house or her child being snatched, they were nonetheless equally painful. To live in a psychologically and emotionally abusive environment is very very hard and it takes a lot out of the woman. I did not find her problems to be any less, they were very much real and very troublesome, but the acting was not at par with the others in the play. The male actor who I’m seeing for the first time had a slight twitch on talking, which was probably part of his role but was not very pleasing to the eye, nor was his dialogue delivery.

Akhri Station Episode 3 Review - Less Impressive

It was shown that Farzana had been so blind in love that she ended up with a man like Sajjad who was not only abusive, but had a major personality disorder. She tried her hardest to tolerate his attitude but there was a breaking point at which she just left with her infant daughter. From getting insulted in front of their guests, to being a victim of constant criticism as a pregnant women and ultimately being character shamed, Farzana put up with more than her fair share in the doomed marriage. This is a very genuinely observed plot because such marriages are very common in our society where the wife has to bear so many social, emotional and psychological scars over the course of their relationships that it reduces perfectly reasonable, educated and talented women to psychotic wives, barely getting on with the business of living and raising kids and frequently on anti depressants.

Farzana’s mother in law was supportive and understanding of her situation and had a realistic view of her son’s shortcomings. Seeing her getting support from her inlaws was the best part of the play. Her mother in law behaves as a woman first and a saas afterward which was probably one of the factors that Farzana did not blame herself for Sajjad’s behaviors, but rather sought out a solution for her and her daughter’s well being. When the inlaws join in the emotional abuse, while being fully aware of their son’s flaws, is where the women usually suffer extreme low self esteem and indecision and keep on questioning their own worth. Luckily that was not the case with Farzana.

When they become first time parents in the play, Sajjad finds a new reason to torture his wife and criticises her on every aspect of mothering. He even insults her parents by calling their gifts cheap and fit for charity only. This is also very realistic of emotional abuse that the husband usually wants to cut off his wife from all her relations and well wishers.  It is the insecurity that makes him want to hurt her where it is most sensitive, since parents and their gifts are a raw nerve for almost every married woman, no matter what the resources are.

Akhri Station Episode 3 Review - Less Impressive

Lastly, Sajjad even starts doubting her character and calls her an irresponsible mother and indifferent wife because she works out to spend time with male colleagues, as he puts it. One day, as he was degrading her in his usual way, Farzana loses her cool and answers him back. She gives him a very realistic answer that he should be thankful of her that she is still living with him if he thinks she is out of the house to meet men. Ofcourse, this becomes unbearable for a narcissist like him and he drags her inside, leaving the baby scared and crying at this sudden display of violence.

I think there is more to Farzana’s story that will be disclosed in the next episode. Stay tuned and share your views about this episode.

Ohkay so, it was quite a convincing episode of Pukaar. I really liked this episode because the ordeals or a newly wedded girl were shown in a perfect manner plus the more I am getting to know Samra’s character, the more I am liking her!

Samra is someone who is fair & calls spade a spade without worrying about the fact that whether whatever she says will sit well with someone or not. Samra understood that when it comes to Fahad, he will never really be able to take a stand for his wife so she had to fend for herself.

This marriage unveiled one shock after another for Samra because she was promised something completely opposite to what was now being dished out to her. Fahad never really told Samra about his background & the fact that his father might be interested in making him join the local politics, that is why when she saw Fahad accepting his father’s orders, she was not only unhappy but upset that Fahad wasn’t thinking from her perspective. Samra just wanted a simple life with Fahad & didn’t want him to attain this wealth & power which his father wanted him to achieve.

Fahad’s family follows certain set of rules & has certain standards, but they really took a bit too far where they expected Samra, the only child to abide by those rules even when it came to meeting her parents. Samra knew she had to draw a line otherwise her in-laws will keep on bombarding her with one order after another, one expectation after another, which would mean that Samra will have to forget herself in the course of meeting their expectations.

I really liked the way Samra voiced her concerns but just because she loved Fahad so much, she eventually gave up & understood that being the only son, his parents had certain expectations & dreams which only he could fulfill. Samra wanted to settle in America but just because Fahad told her that it was a matter of time before they could go, she agreed to go to village till he contests in the elections!

Slowly & gradually Samra did understand that Fahad was having a hard time accommodating her, because whatever basics Samra demanded from him were not in sync with how his family rolled. Samra wanted to see her mother but even though Fahad came for her, initially he just sat there looking at his father for an approval. Fahad was trying hard to please Samra & he did succeed at times but still his father had an upper-hand & Fahad wanted Samra to understand & compromise. I liked those little moments that they shared where Fahad through some cute gestures won Samra’s heart & she let go of her anger.

I liked the conversation that Samra had with her mother where she shared how her marital life was full of challenges & her mother told her that she had to maintain a balance. Fahad still chose to leave because he was mindful of what his father wanted from him. Sadly, he got murdered & that will now change the dynamics of the story!

Overall, it was a very convincing episode. I liked that Tashfeen tried to reason with her husband to tell him that Fahad doesn’t want to take part in the politics but because his father only believes in doing what he deems right, he over-ruled Tashfeen’s concerns which she had as a mother. I am not sure why everyone in this drama has been unconvincingly & unrealistically sporting a fair skin? Be it the guy playing the role of Fahad or Jia Ali, who on her own has a beautiful dusky complexion. I wish the makeup artist had done justice to everyone’s beautiful skin color & hadn’t really gone on a white-wash spree because it just didn’t seem flattering whatsoever. Yumna who on her own is pretty fair seemed unnecessarily whitened too in almost every single scene, which is why despite wearing next to no makeup, she still seemed a bit too made up. Zahid also, in his limited screen-time seemed a bit too gora which he naturally is not? I wish the director had paid attention to this aspect because it just wasn’t necessary for everyone to look unnaturally gora on screen. I must say the guy playing the role of Fahad is quite weak in acting, he reminds me of the Twilight female protagonist who always had the same expression on her face no matter what the situation was, similarly, his poker face on one side, his eyes are so not expressive & that is what makes his acting just so bland & weak. On the other hand, just by looking into Yumna’s eyes, one could understand the emotion that Samra was feeling & this is what we call a powerful acting. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Pukaar.

Atif Aslam Refuses To Promote New Bollywood Song!

There is a lot of tension going on between India and Pakistan on the cultural front. It all started with the bans imposed on Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan after both got stardom across the border. Things have gotten more serious recently when an Indian singer turned politician Babul Supriyo asked for a ban on Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. He asked to redub the songs sung by the two artists in two upcoming Bollywood movies.

Atif Aslam Refuses To Promote New Bollywood Song!

Due to this ban, it has been reported that Atif Aslam has refused to promote his upcoming song for the movie Daas Dev. Though he initially was going to promote it, but the increased tension and the ban have made Atif take this decision.

Government Announces First Ever Film Policy!

A three day National Artists Convention and CPEC Cultural Caravan were held at the Pakistan National Council of Arts. At its conclusion, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting has announced Pakistan’s first ever Film and Culture Policy. Pakistani cinema is flourishing for a few years now and after facing a lot of challenges, our film industry has come out with many good movies which impressed the audiences as well as did good business.

Government Announces First Ever Film Policy!

With India’s ban on Pakistani artists and no ban on their content from Pakistan’s side, it came as a good move to at least give support to our own cinema. The policy came into effect immediately and states the following points for the betterment of Pakistani cinema:

  • The film industry has been acknowledged formally as an industry.
  • Establishment of finance fund as well as a film academy will take place.
  • Directorate of films and publications will be restored
  • Film Studios will be built under public-private partnership where the government will supply land and 80% rebates will be given for the construction of cinemas.
  • There will be no duty on importing film equipment.
  • Artists will be included in the health scheme.

Whether this policy gets implemented or not is a different debate but it is a good step in promoting our own culture and facilitating the artists and filmmakers.

Aangan Episode 17 Review – Perfection!

Ohkay so, this drama keeps on getting better & better. This was yet another perfect & hilarious episode of Aangan where I found myself laughing hysterically over so many conversations. The balance between the actual issues that one faces during family wedding & those little moments which provide the comedy quotient is perfect, that is why this drama offers a perfect entertainment when you tune to it!

So, it seemed that Hajra was finally thinking about Sadaan & Afrah, like she felt guilty over what she did & that is why she went to him to have a little chit chat. I loved the equation Sadaan & Hajra share, even though Sadaan exactly knows what his mother did, but he didn’t let it get to him & in fact tried to make his mother understand that no one can take her place so she shouldn’t feel insecure!

The wedding preps were almost complete but the one major thing that had to be taken care of was Anila. I guessed it right, it was Abba Jee who had to do the honors & boy the way he made one excuse after another had my in a laughing fit. The way everyone else seemed relieved was amusing & mean at the same time because they knew exactly what Abba Jee was going to get into. I loved the way Abba Jee gave Anila a little pep-talk that she is always in need of. Anila just can not stand the fact that her brother’s wives now have an upper-hand, so she doesn’t leave any chance she gets to make herself feel valued. Well, Anila along with her daughters came & then she made sure to let everyone know that she was doing a favor, therefore they all should accommodate her as per her standards. The way Shaina & Hajra spoke about room-sharing was so realistic, no doubt family weddings are fun, but they also mean compromising on your comfort zone. It was so realistic how Shaina voiced her detest & then got a scolding from her mother who had gazillion more things & tantrums to take care of, therefore she just didn’t want her daughter to add more to her woes!

The scolding that Laila got from Zaitoon was also a depiction of how one thing gets highlighted while others are completely ignored. Zaitoon out of concern for her son’s pocket reminded Laila that she was spending a bit too much on herself but I loved the way Abba Jee reminded her that Laila also didn’t ever stop Asim from bearing the expenses too, so what if she spends on herself? After Zaitoon’s scolding, Laila also thought of reminding everyone just how much Asim was doing, which was so realistic. Before this argument, Laila never really bothered much & in fact encouraged Asim to do as much as he could, she also decided to gift her jewellery to Zoya, but the moment Zaitoon started targetting her, it was like she brought out the worst in Laila due to which she thought everyone needed to know that if Asim could do spend for his sister, then it was his right to do as much for his wife too. It was such a nice message that was imparted that family members usually tend to focus on the things that are not in line with their perspective, but just because they forget how much sacrifices one makes, things get complicated because when someone goes out of the way to do things for the family, a little appreciation is what is needed the most!

Aqdas’s family seemed really nice & they all can’t wait to welcome Zoya warmly in their family. I had a good laugh at Faseeha’s predicament as even she knew that her in laws might create a scene or two at Aqdas’s wedding. I am sure there are going to be fireworks & I can’t wait to see aur abbhi to Allauddin bhi baqi hai.

Well, Zahid continued to pester Rubina & I felt bad for her that she literally had to give him explanations because on his own, he continued to ignore Rubina’s feelings as to how much she would be wanting to look good or wear nice dresses for Zoya’s wedding. The statement about Sadqa/Zakat was so heart-wrenching. I think now that a good chunk of drama is done with, it’s about time that some changes in Zahid are shown, as I am sure everyone would love to see that!

Loved this episode & thoroughly enjoyed it. Not even a single moment went by where I lost my interest as it was so engaging & done perfectly. I loved all those one-liners which made the conversations so humorous. Every single member of the team, starting from writer to director to actors & all those who have worked behind the camera deserve a standing ovation for bringing us such a brilliant drama. Qavi Khan, Samina Ahmed, Noor ul Hassan, Irsa Ghazal, Waseem Abbas, ZQ, Iffat Omar, Uzma Hassan, Paras Masroor, Hassan Ahmed, Masha Pasha & the entire yonger lot, each one of them have made Aangan what it is & they all have given their 100% to this project & their hardwork is paying off. I usually never go back to binge-watch Pakistani dramas one they end but I will definitely watch Aangan again & again. Please share your thoughts about this perfect episode of Aangan.

Armeena Khan Speaks Wisdom

0

Last week ended on a tragic note, from the air strikes in Syria to Sridevi’s death sadness loomed all over us. After witnessing such atrocities humanity wept all around the globe but even in such times some of us find in our hearts to spread hate speech.

Armeena Khan Speaks Wisdom

People soon started comparing the two events and judged people over which atrocity they decided to post about on their social media. As pathetic ugly and inhumane as it sounds this is what happened, we saw internet divided over Syria or Sridevi.

Armeena Khan Speaks Wisdom

While humanity kept reaching another low Armeena Khan took upon herself to talk some wisdom into people’s heads, to at least those who’d listen.

This is what she had to say,

https://www.instagram.com/p/BftjswgneKc/?utm_source=ig_embed

Let God be the judge of our actions and stop spreading hate especially in times when humanity needs to stand together. Hatred is a baggage it gets you nowhere. The world is already full of hatred and war it doesn’t need more of it, what it truly needs is kindness. Albeit no religion preaches hate Islam of all the religions is the most kind one, a true Muslim does not hate for he knows that Allah does not hate. May the Lord have mercy upon us.

Tabeer Episode 2 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode of Tabeer was pretty basic & strictly alright. I am sure once the actual story will kickstart it will definitely become a lot more interesting but it has had a very typical start which doesn’t excite you to tune next week, which I hope will change once the characters will be past the depressive stage of their lives.

Fawad’s wife was in fragile condition & Fawad was already having a hard time just thinking about how life would be if Zarnish will not be with him anymore. The doctors however promised him that things will get better but it does seem doubtful. In the middle of all this, Fawad’s needy mother felt the need to tell her son that he should draw a line, even if he was taking care of his wife who was unwell & also expecting his child. Fawad’s mother & her unreasonability already seemed like a forced filler which I am sure will continue to be the same till the drama will end or you never know when she might have a change of heart but for now, she is a filler & a bad one at that!

Yasir decided to surprise his wife & before he could come, Tabeer only had the thoughts of meeting her husband on her mind. It was sweet how she was keen on everything, from wearing a nice dress to cooking something that her husband likes. Tabeer is a very sensitive girl who couldn’t even hold her tears when she saw that her tired husband slept without even seeing the effort that she made, which brings me to my point that I would love to see what she will do & how she will deal with the trials that her life is going to throw at her.

So, Fawad mother demands Yasir to come back so that he can take care of the things on Fawad’s behalf & that’s when Yasir meets an accident & passes away. I am not sure how long will they take to bring Tabeer come to terms with the fact that her husband is no more because if there is one thing that I am not keen on while watching any drama is for it to have such a tragic & depressing start, sigh!

Overall, it was an average episode. The pace seems a little slow & since there are not many characters, it seemed a lot slower. I am not sure what to look forward to in a drama which has had such a depressing start. It is obvious that both Fawad & Tabeer are going to end up together but will that journey be worthwhile? We’ll see. Please share your thoughts.

Khudgarz Episode 19 Review – Beautiful!

Ohkay so, it was yet another intense episode of Khudgarz with powerpacked performances & beautifully written dialogues to its credit. This drama is for sure one of its kind, it just keeps you engaged & I really don’t remember watching a drama like Khudgarz in a long long time where not even a single thing can be picked up as a flaw or a plothole because the execution along with the script has been so strong that it just doesn’t leave a margin for any errors!

Aairah & Junaid moved to Abeer’s place. Even though Aairah always had Abeer to talk to, I actually liked that in the form of Raheel, even Junaid got a friend with whom he could share everything that was running on his mind. Junaid was obviously trying to carry a facade only to show Aairah that he was perfectly alright, so that she doesn’t feel guilty but deep inside he was struggling too. Junaid was suffering from all the ends, he had so many pressures to deal with but because he couldn’t tell it all to Aairah, he just poured his heart out to Raheel. I believe this was the first time Junaid got a chance to complain & speak about all the hardships that life was throwing at him one after the other, because before that, he would always keep his feelings bottled up. Since Raheel also had a baggage attached to Hassan & also because he had firsthand experienced what Abeer was going through when she was associated with him, Raheel knew what Aairah & Junaid must be feeling. Their interactions time to time about different issues were nicely & reaslitically done.

Aairah on the other hand shared her frustrations with Abeer because she was feeling guilty for what Junaid’s life has become after their marriage. It was good that Aairah was also mindful of the fact that everyone around them was just punishing them for being happy. The baby shower that Abeer threw for Aairah was sweet & just what she needed to get distracted from all that was happening in her life.

Well, even though everyone has had a chance to tell Munawwar how wrong he has been but what Amir said to him was spot on. Everything that Munawwar did for Junaid, though started off with a bit of sympathy then turned into his selfishness where he knew that Junaid will take care of the family business for him. It is sad that Munawwar gets so many reminders of how Hassan has failed as a son, yet he chooses to stay thick skinned, thinking he is doing some sort of favor to his son. After Junaid & Aairah left, Munawwar went to their room & had remorse on his face but it doesn’t outbid the cruelty he has treated them with!

Now talking about Hassan, once again, through Omar he got to experience what life actually is about. While looking at the changes Hassan unconsciously is bringing in himself, I was wondering how important role a good company plays on someone. All this while Hassan continued to be unreasonable because Munawwar despite being a father was just being a bad company, a bad influence on him. Even though Hassan spent a very limited amount of time with Omar, but in that time span, he learned what people actually go through & how harsh life can be for some & this is what really forced him to do some thinking. Meeting kids like Raza, Neha, knowing about a child he won’t be able to meet; Omar’s son, all these served as reminders to Hassan that people are faced with bigger tests & trials but he just because got rejected, he wrecked people’s lives apart. For the first time, after feeling Neha’s pain, Hassan realized how deeply all his insults & assaults would have affected Abeer & that’s when he decided to seek for forgiveness. Ah, that scene was absolutely beautiful where Hassan prayed & Omar just stood there watching a new & a better Hassan. I felt relieved when Omar didn’t tell Munawwar about Hassan, because firstly he knew that Hassan wasn’t ready to leave & secondly, he also knew that Hassan needed some more time to finally break free from the negativity that was holding him back from becoming a better person!

I loved this episode like all the previous episodes of Khudgarz. Hassan’s transition has to be one of the best aspects of this drama because it has been shown in such a realistic, non-preachy manner. How many times we come across such incidents or such people whose stories touch us on a very different level & they make us realize that we have to stop & evaluate what’s important, these things remind us that our life should not be revolving around our problems only. In times like these, we get to analyze that we can do better & we can move on. This is why I really like how Hassan, after seeing everything unwillingly got to realize how wrong he was all along. Love it. Sami Khan definitely took the crown in this episode with his phenomenal performance as Hassan; his regrets, his pain, his guilt, everything was portrayed to perfection. Oh well, please please someone tell me that nothing will happen to Junaid. As I typed this, I remembered Salma also had some dialogue referring to Munawwar later realizing who his son was…pleaseeee I don’t want to break my TV, so for that sake, I am, saying a little prayer that nothing happens to Junaid! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Khudgarz.

India Officially Bans Pakistani Artists!

0

The FWIC notice openly is calling Pakistan the nation who has unleashed a war like situation in their country. So, Pakistani artists are officially banned while our channels are still showing Indian content and none of our stars had the audacity to say a word about these allegations.

It was the time we should have showed too that “Nation Comes First”. Our industry is flourishing by leaps and bounds which should have provided confidence to artists to take a stand for their and their country’s dignity.
