Meri Guriya Last Episode Story Review – Justice Served
The most gratifying part of this last episode of Meri Guriya was the verdict and its execution. This verdict gave a clear-cut message which is the need of the hour. This is exactly the way a serial killer and a rapist should be punished and this isn’t something we get to see in our dramas very often.
The Trial
Having said that, the overall narrative tonight was exceptionally weak. The reason why the verdict and the atmosphere in the courtroom had an impact was because of the way the story was taken forward for all these weeks. The court’s proceedings were stretched and some of the parts were laughable. The role of the judge in a trial which was not only extremely serious because of the nature of the crime but also the hype attached to it, was absurd! The weakest scene was the one in which Dabeer’s lawyer declared that he was in fact mad and the judge went along with it until Safina came to the rescue. It was understandable that Samreen was under pressure and could not testify against her brother but later on watching her sit with Shehnaz and not formally apologizing was strange! Shehnaz’s dialogues in the court scenes were touching but they would have been even more poignant if they were not prolonged unnecessarily. Also, Shahmir’s absence from the trial stood out like a sore thumb throughout. Last but not the least, the DNA result came in the end! The DNA test result should have been evidence enough for the court to make a ruling especially because Shehnaz and Safina had to fight a long and hard battle to get it done. The trial was the weakest link in tonight’s episode but the outcome was definitely powerful.
Character Development
The way Rab Nawaz had a change of heart was too sudden and not the least bit logical! The most funny bit was when he “Paused” in the middle of a murder to attend a phone call. This development could have been covered much more convincingly since this ending was pretty much stretched without a reason. Similarly, daadi was apologetic all of a sudden and that was it! She got so much screen time and the viewers were never given the hint that she was supporting Dabeer because she thought he was innocent. Same was true for the change in Dabeer’s mother’s stance, she wanted her son forgiven even if he was guilty – that was her stance last week – but tonight suddenly she accepted the verdict so wholeheartedly that she even went to witness Dabeer’s hanging! This was another aspect of this episode which was impossible to connect to.
Most of us wanted to know why Dabeer turned into such a monster especially because some of the dialogues suggested that while growing up he was never like all the other children. I was thinking that maybe Dabeer had some awful experiences in his childhood and these experience perhaps in some way involved Abida’s grandfather but there was no such background. Showing or explaining the reason was surely a difficult road to take since very often our writers have turned rapists into victims while attempting to do so therefore I understand why the writer decided to skip that part. Dabeer’s ending was the most powerful and upsetting thing we have seen in our dramas and the message it sent is one which needs to be heard.
Performances and Execution
Kudos to Mohsin Abbas Haider for taking up a character which was pure evil and nailing it in every single episode. Mohsin Abbas Haider’s award-winning performance was right on point throughout. His expressions tonight were priceless. Sania Saeed’s character and her acting in this drama was absolutely brilliant. It was great watching Sonya Hussyn play a character which was strong and positive. She breathed life into Safina’s character and made it even more likeable. I would love to see her experiment more in the future too. Faris Shafi’s portrayal of Yawar was superb too right from the get-go. Although, the entire cast of this drama acted superbly throughout but in this episode few of the supporting characters were over-dramatic. Also, showing exactly what the DNA test results were in the few scenes showing what was going to happen after the commercial break was ridiculous.
The execution overall was okay but the background score in the last scene did not compliment the situation which was being shown. The script was the weakest tonight because many of the scenes were repetitive and the court scene in particular was not convincing. The ending however was superb.
Overall Impression
Meri Guriya was an extremely upsetting and powerful drama which kept the viewers coming back for more. It highlighted an important issue and had many important messages for the victims’ families as well as those who are at the helm of affairs. The last four episodes however were stretched and were not written as impressively as rest of the episodes. It was a pleasure reviewing this drama, it always kept me glued to my television screen and the performances in particular were amazing! Ohkay so, this was yet another average episode of Dil Mom Ka Diya. I feel situations are becoming monotonous in this drama now because so far they have established the plot pretty clearly & have shown the family dynamics pretty well too. It won’t be wrong to say that things are becoming repetitive in Dil Mom Ka Diya & it’s a high time the story should move forward, other than being stuck at a point where Ulfat has a problem with everyone & get away with everything too.
Developments:
Afzal & Ulfat are poles apart, this is such a fact that Afzal isn’t oblivious of but still he expects some sensitivity from Ulfat in the matters concerning him which he doesn’t really get from her. Ulfat is someone who has her sights on everything else except Afzal because over the years she has assessed it pretty well that her husband loves her a lot & he will never leave her, therefore she takes him for granted. Ulfat will make an issue about everything on a daily basis but when it comes to her husband, she will not even pay heed to what he is feeling or going through because in this relationship, she feels entitled as well as makes it a point every single time that she is doing Afzal a favor by staying married to him. Ulfat is someone who has zero tolerance for others & their opinions – just because Afzal lets her be, she focuses more on those who comment on her & do not really like her ways. Ulfat is only digging a pit for herself because it is too obvious that Afzal might not run out of patience but he will lose respect that he has for her. Afzal has treated Ulfat gently for too long & he might not be able to continue considering how Ulfat keeps on pushing all the wrong buttons.
Ulfat does not like competition, but then there she is, always competing with others. Ulfat made a clear point that she will not participate in Kausar’s wedding but the moment she heard Tamkinat’s name, she immediately showed up. Ulfat is definitely someone who is aimless & has no purpose in life, that is why she relies so much on these cheap thrills to extract some fun out of it for herself. It is like she enjoys pinching people & hurting them – that’s her daily dose of adventure. All the things that she said to Kausar were mean & I liked how everyone came together to make Kausar forget everything that she had heard from Ulfat. The relationship that all these siblings share is the highlight of this drama. It is sweet & seems very genuine. It is nice that in this family where everyone has to deal with Ulfat, they all always take a stand for each other to show her that she can not walk over them like that.
As much as Ulfat is annoying, Salma is no less either. I find it funny that even though Salma is quite mature still after so many years have passed, she has not learnt how to deal with Ulfat. Salma has made it obvious that she does not like Ulfat & vice versa so she should just let her be. Salma always has to drag Ulfat in her conversation, giving Ulfat a chance to react & when she does, Salma further makes a point that Ulfat is not a nice person.
The entire Ulfat falling down on the floor & going into the labor was too exaggerated & it seemed more odd because Ulfat didn’t even have a bump to begin with. I think only suggesting something in theory is not the right approach, they should have tried to make Ulfat’s pregnancy look real at least. Also, I wish Ulfat had worn those lawn suits that she purchased in the beginning of the episode because the usual dresses that she wears are quite hideous. I think the producers really didn’t want to spend too much on the dress designing & stuff because the clothes that all of the actresses are wearing, excluding Erum Akhtar, look quite cheap.
Closing Thoughts:
Overall, this episode of Dil Mom Ka Diya was just alright. The overall execution of this drama is pretty good, because of which I feel like tuning to it every single week, otherwise the story is nothing new & has no substance to offer either. Ohkay so, this episode of Balaa was alright. I will say that even though I know things & characters are being like this for a reason but I am not too happy about it because everything is a bit too typical & I am not liking the scenario. Yes, the story will progress this way only for Nigar’s real face to come through later & the writer is showcasing the reality with some people being too simple minded & others being too manipulative but still, I wasn’t too impressed with this episode of Balaa.
Developments:
So, Shama came to a conclusion that there was only one way Taimoor’s broken heart could be mended & that was marriage – that too with a girl who loved him. Yes, Shama’s perspective can be deemed right, she wants her son to move on & get distracted from what happened & she thinks Nigar is the right choice but to literally sacrifice her own daughter for that matter is ridiculous. Yes, Shama is simple-minded, she believes in seeing good in people but to literally ignore & forget about the nature & behaviour of people like Zafar is not innocence, it is stupidity. Shama can do all that she wants for Taimoor but to see her pushing the idea of Batool getting married to Junaid was upsetting to say the least. Shama can wish for happiness for Taimoor but she should be wise enough to know that Zafar is a very difficult person to be with so how can she put Batool in such a situation where she’d have to deal with Zafar on a daily basis. Yes, it is good that Shama wants to hold onto her relations & wants her children to do the same but I don’t think any mother is so blind to her children’s wish that she puts someone else’s happiness ahead of her own daughter’s.
Nigaar continued to weave trap around Shama & Taimoor quite tactfully. With Shama Nigar didn’t have to do much work but she kept on hovering around Taimoor trying to prove her love to him. To be honest, I kind of laughed when I heard Taimoor agreeing to get married to Nigar, like he couldn’t even stand her a few months back & now he acted like aik chai ki maar who just accepted Nigar seeing how keen she was to be a part of his life. Yes, Shama & Zafar’s brainwashing did work too but Taimoor accepted Nigar because he wanted to & because he liked the idea of being with someone who loved him more.
Junaid created a scene in front of everyone & I was amazed that a God-fearing woman like Shama didn’t deem it odd that Junaid was an alcoholic & in fact she still advocated Junaid in front of Batool saying that he will get over alcohol as its just a phase that he is going through by relying on it to forget about Zeba. Even Saleha thought Junaid’s proposal wasn’t bad & all of this was happening while everyone pretty much saw that Batool did not approve of this & she didn’t like Junaid to begin with. Taimoor did say that he will support Batool’s decision of not getting married to Junaid but I am sure he will succumb to Nigar’s pressures & even Batool will give in.
Closing Thoughts:
Overall, this episode of Balaa was just alright because I was not too impressed with Shama & her sensibility as a mother. As far as Shama’s concerns for Taimoor were concerned they were genuine but when it came to Batool it was too obvious that she was ready to sacrifice her daughter for the sake of Zafar & Junaid’s happiness by wanting Batool to mend his broken heart exactly the way Nigar would do for Taimoor. The acting of all the actors is definitely amazing & the actress playing the role of Batool stands out again. She is effortless & a fine actor. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Balaa.

He tweeted this in response to Sania Mirza’s video with a youtube channel, where she in a moving letter to her child, unburdens them of any and every expectation.

Pakistani cinema is progressing by leaps and bounds. From horror to adventure and comedy, films of all genres are coming out and making an impact. The animation is also becoming a favourite among filmmakers. 3 Bahadur became a franchise and people have fallen in love with it. Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor also did decent business at the box office. Another animation movie is on its way to release and it is The Donkey King.
The Donkey King has some big names attached to it. Mangu the lead character is played by Afzal Khan while other characters are voiced by actors Hina Dilpazeer, Jave Sheikh, Ismail Tara, Ahsan Rahim, Faisal Qureshi, Ghulam Muhaiuddin, Shabbir Jan, Irfan Khoosat, Ali Hassan, Shafaat Ali, Mani and Adeel Hashmi.

Karachi has been in news once again for street crime. Karachi is no doubt one of the most beautiful cities of Pakistan. It is the trade hub and the city of lights. But the city has suffered so much in the past decades. With the deteriorated law and order situations, target killings, fires and what not, the city has seen intolerable amounts of blood and sorrow. A lot has been controlled after the security forces operation in the city but the street crime is again on the rise.
Freiha Alaf was going back home after attending Fashion Week 2018 when she also became a victim of street crime, She was held along with her daughter by three young boys on a motorbike. The incident was naturally frightening but having her daughter with her at that time made it even more horrible. Freiha Altaf took to twitter and shared the incident:
Freiha asked people to cooperate with the forces as she demanded a swift cleanup of street crime in Karachi.
Safety should be the first concern of the government and crime should be controlled before anything. Freiha’s demand is totally legit and the government should take notice of the increasing crime as soon as possible!

Alamgir Khan, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), started “Fix It” as a campaign on January 4, 2016 against the inability of authorities to cover Karachi’s manholes that were left open for way too long. Fix It basically was an initiative by Alamgir Khan to highlight problems faced by inhabitants of Karachi, during unstable socio-political times.
Initiator of Fix It that has become an organization now, Alamgir Khan recently came on the morning show hosted by Sanam Baloch and shared how he had started Fix It and what it represents. Alamgir said that Fix It is for the awareness of the public especially youth to know the problems and try to solve those problems. He said that the youngsters need this kind of empowerment so that they could go ahead and take their problems head on. He said the black shirts that team Fix It wear are a symbol of unity and power. If you are wearing that shirt no one would dare to ask for bribe from you, no one would be able to delay you work unnecessarily.
Fix It ignites hope that perhaps we are moving towards a change for the better, a change where the common man is more conscious of his role and rights in the society and is an active participant in ensuring their security. Alamgir calls it a silent protest that is not harming people but merely giving them a platform to address their problems.
