Agha Ali and Sarah Khan recently got engaged but they haven’t talked about their relationship a lot in talk shows or interviews. Agha Ali for the first time talked about how this engagement took place when he and Sarah were invited as guests on a Morning Show. Agha Ali is known for being very vocal on Morning Shows, he also loves participating in these shows.

Agha Ali said, “Sara is probably one of the best co-stars I worked with. When we worked together, everything was so smooth. We clicked instantly but it was my mother who really liked her and if it wasn’t for her maybe I wouldn’t have taken this relationship so seriously.” Agha Ali also said that he was very close to his mother and he cannot imagine getting married to someone his mother does not like.

This Is What Sajal Ali Thinks About Actors Who Are All Over Social Media

Sajal Ali has always been one of those actors who rely solely on their talent and do not depend on social media for popularity. There are many celebrities in Pakistan who are of the opinion that massive fan following on social media is a huge advantage. These celebrities also think that if they are popular on social media then they will automatically get more work.

This Is What Sajal Ali Thinks About Actors Who Are All Over Social Media

While talking about the role of social media in making people popular, Sajal Ali said that there are some actors who put every little thing on social media which gets them more following but that does not mean that it will get them more work too. She said that at the end of the day, what matters the most is talent, social media popularity cannot make up for the lack of talent. She also said that there are also actors who are more focused on being popular on social media instead of focusing on their work.

Sajal Ali also said, “Such actors might get some work every now and then based on their popularity on social media but there comes a time when producers and directors don’t want social media sensations but they want actors who can get the job done.”

Sajal Ali also thinks that the celebrities should not reveal everything about themselves since some mystery surrounding their personalities makes people more interested in them.

Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua Episode 10 Review – A Change Of Heart

I am terribly disappointed with HUM, moving a drama like TDKKH to 9pm slot and replacing it with a cliché-ridden play like Tumhari Marium was a terribly unfair decision. While I understand that a drama like TDKKH cannot possibly be a commercial hit but while allotting or moving these slots the channel should also keep into consideration the quality of a drama and the amount of effort which the entire team has put into it. TDKKH is unusual but definitely worthy of a good slot! I am certain, I am not the only one who feels this way since there are many other viewers who can clearly see that TDKKH has some major strengths.

These 10 episodes of TDKKH have been beyond amazing. Every single conversation and the entire feel of the play is brand new. This has to be one of the most beautifully written plays which is filled with deep and meaningful dialogues. The director and the actors have translated all the scenarios on screen impeccably. Just like every other episode of TDKKH, this one too had a special surprise in store. The previous episode already suggested that Maya was regretting her decision of leaving someone like Faris who loved and respected her for a crook like Saif. This episode ended with Maya admitting that she had made the biggest mistake of her life and she loved Faris more today than she ever did. I had absolutely no trouble connecting to everything Maya was going through since this change of heart did not occur overnight. It took a man like Saif to make her realize what a gem Faris was. I absolutely love the way the tables have been turned. Not very long ago Faris was the one who was desperate to have Maya back and now Maya wants to go back to him. Different scenes in this episode suggested that Faris was getting closer to Dariya; it seemed like he was more emotionally dependent on her now than ever and he needs her in his life although he does not want to get married to her just yet. Like Uncle Siraj said, in the end the person who cheats pays the price for it and not the person who has been wronged.

Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua Episode 10 Review - A Change Of Heart

Although almost all the characters in this drama are appealing in their own way but Faris and Dariya’s characters as well as the relationship between these two has to be the highlight of every episode. Sami Khan and Mansha Pasha’s on screen chemistry coupled with their brilliant performances make their scenes a treat to watch. Both these characters have so many different shades to their personalities and all of them are equally appealing. Also, the fact that even with all their niceness, they are still really strong people makes them even more likeable. Maya’s character has been etched-out brilliantly too and Ayeza Khan has breathed life into this character in such a way that even with all her flaws you can’t help but feel for Maya. She comes across as someone who is naive and gullible as opposed to negative or wicked.

My favorite parts of this episode were Faris’ conversation with Zoya and everything Baila said to Maya after which she admitted that she wanted to go back to Faris. The conversations Lubna, Baila and Maya had and the kind of relationship these women share was also truly refreshing. For a change it is good to see women being there for one another although their circumstances don’t make it easy for them to support each other. Baila has always been the voice of reason; she is wise, practical and outspoken – we don’t get to see women like her in our dramas very often. Lubna too has also been quite honest about her feelings for Saif and also about her views regarding Maya’s situation. It is great to see these women being honest with one another.

Like every other episode of TDKKH, this one too had some impressive dialogues to its credit. My favorite one however was, “Mard ki jaib agr khali bhi ho na tu biwi ki wafadari apni jaib mei daal kr kehta hei k I am the richest man.”

The preview of the next episode was very enticing! Does Faris really hate Maya? Do Dariya and Faris have a future together? I am looking forward to finding out!

How many of you watched this episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Listen To A Beautiful New Song “Bulleya” By Rangreza

Rangreza is a musical starring Urwa Hocane, Gohar Rasheed and Bilal Ashraf. Releasing this December, this movie has a lot of anticipation and expectation around it.

The film’s just released song Bulleya is certainly a winner. It is a fusion of rock and Sufi music and transports you into another world altogether. It is composed by J Ali and sung by Asrar Shah and is a beautiful number, with soft yet deep vocals and a very spiritual feel to the whole song.

Films in September 2017

September the ninth month of the year 2017 has started. In the past two public holidays of Defence Day (6th September 2017) and Quaid-e-Azam Death Aniversary (11th September 2017) fall, however after 1998 both these public holidays were cancelled.

From 2015, the festive muslim event of Eidul Azha also falls in this month. This year Eidul Azha is on 2nd September 2017. In recent years Eidul Azha has emerged as the most successful weekend for the Pakistani cinema. From 2013 onwards the one of the Eidul Azha release has proved the most successful Pakistani film of the year.

The new year of Islamic Hijri calendar starting with the month of Moharram is also falling in September 2017 (starting from 20th September). No new film is released in the first ten days of Moharram while cinemas are also closed from 8th – 10th Moharram. So it effectively leaves twenty days of cinema business in this month.

Last year a total of four Urdu films were released in the month of September, where three were released on Eidul Azha 2016. This year three films are releasing in the month of September, where two are releasing on Eidul Azha. All the three films are of different genre and provide plenty of variety to cine goers with respect to their choice and preference.

Punjab Nahin Jaongi (پنجاب نہیں جاؤں گی)
Punjab Nahin Jaongi (PNJ) is produced by almost the same team of Jawani Phir Nahin Aani (JPNA) released on Eidul Azha 2015. JPNA proved blockbuster and to date is the highest earning film of Pakistan in any language. PNJ is releasing on Eidul Azha.

Like JNPA, PNJ also stars Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat in the lead while Nadeem Baig is the director. The major highlight of PNJ is the writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar (KRQ). KRQ last wrote the film Koi Tujh Sa Kahan in 2005, so PNJ marks his comeback on the big screen after a long gap of 12 years.KRQ is known for his powerful and insightful dialogs and his fans surely expect a quality script here.

Sohail Ahmed a famous name of Punjabi commercial stage is also making a comeback on the big screen after a long time. Seasoned artist Naveed Shahzad who seldom works in dramas is also making her big screen debut. Saba Hameed is also returning to the big screen after a decade where her debut film Mein Ek Din Laut Ke Aaonga was released in 2007.

Azfar Rehman a well known name of television is also appearing as secondary hero in this film. It is his first prominent apperance on big screen, earlier he done a cameo in the film Manto (2015). Urwa Hocane who last appeared in Namaloom Afraad in 2014 is appearing in a film after a gap of three years from PNJ. Ahmad Butt is also playing a prominent role in PNJ.

PNJ is a film of family drama genre. The film is shot in the cities of Bahawalpur and Karachi and is expected to attract the viewers in the circuit of Punjab as well as Karachi.

In the recent years few films of Family Drama genre have proved successful like Bin Roye (2015), Ho Mann Jahan (2016) and Janaan (2016). Though few circles criticize such films as “tv drama on big screen”, still this genre has grown its own audience in Pakistan as well outside Pakistan. Especially in UK the Urdu films of Family Drama genre have proved successful.

Namaloom Afraad 2 (نامعلوم افراد 2)
Namaloom Afraad 2 (NMA2) is the sequel of super hit Namaloom Afraad released on Eidul Azha 2014. NMA2 features almost the same cast which were in NMA namely Javed Sheikh, Fahad Mustafa, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Urwa Hocane. Nayyer Ejaz is appearing in a prominent role in NMA2, he had a cameo appearance in NMA.

The character of Amber Khan (wife of Javed Sheikh) in NMA has been shown dead. Marina Khan is a well known face of the television dramas and NMA2 is her debut film.

The character of Kubra Khan is also not part of NMA2, instead Hania Aamir will appear in NMA2 paired opposite Mohsin Abbas Haider. Marina Khan and Hania Aamir are playing mother and daughter in NMA2.

NMA also featured Mehwish Hayat in the item song Billi. In NMA2, the super model Sadaf Kanwal is doing the dance number Kaifo Suroor.

Like NMA, NMA2 is also a comedy film. In the recent years films of comedy genre have proved the most popular genre in local Urdu films followed by films of action and family drama genre. So NMA2 is expected to give a tough competition to PNJ on Eidul Azha.

NMA2 is the third film from the producer Fizza Ali Meerza and director Nabeel Qureshi. Their previous two films NMA(2014) and Actor In Law (2016) were also released on Eidul Azha and proved the highest earning films of the respective year.

Saawan (ساون)

Saawan (ساون) is the third film releasing in September 2017. Saawan is shot in Quetta and its adjoining areas in the Balochistan province. The biggest highlight of Saawan is, it is the Pakistan’s 2017 nomination to the Oscars award for the “Foreign Language Film Category”.

The film has also won Best Foreign Language Feature Film award at Madrid International Film Festival few months ago. The film covers multiple social issues.

Saawan is inspired by a true events:Struggle of a 9 year old Polio Victim Child. Public Awareness:1- Polio awareness, 2- Child trafficking 3- Woman bravery 4- WATER Crisis.

The official Facebook page describes the Plot Outline of Saawan as

Inspired by a true story of a disabled child, who is innocent, generous and most of all courageous.

This is a story of a people where poverty predominates, and the habitants live on a basic theory of “survival of the fittest”.

In the middle of this quintessential beauty, serenity and wilderness is a town that has been hit by a severe natural calamity. Sawan now has to face the callous nature and ignorance by all the characters of society all alone.

The tragedy of Sawan has brought together different characters on screen: an inspiring mother, a TV reporter, a common criminal, a child abductor, the cruel landlord and an ambivalent father.

These towering mountains, and intermittent gust of terrible winds across the mountains, haunt Saawan, but he has decided to fight to live for his family.

Saawan is a glimpse into the hope of tomorrow and is a lesson for many today that ignore such children during their daily walk of life.

So these are the three Urdu films releasing in the month of September 2017. All the three films are of different genre and subjects and provide an option to cine goers to choose one as per their personal preference. The first two films are commercial movies while the third one is a parallel cinema film covering multiple social issues.

Before concluding lets briefly discuss a scenario which we might have noticed again and again. On social media and other forums there are many reader/visitors (count me at the top of the list) who repetitively rant and complain about the Urdu commercial movies. Such commenters have multiple concerns with respect to Urdu cinema like

The commercial cinema is not a true reflection of Pakistani society and culture
The commercial cinema shows fictional characters and stories
The treatment of commercial films is inspired from Indian Bollywood films
Why no films on real issues with social theme are made in Pakistan

It is a long debate and the brief answer to the above questions is that Commercial and Parallel cinema live side by side in any country. The success of commercial cinema provides the space to the parallel cinema. Commercial cinema has never been considered a true depiction of a society or country. So expecting reality and true depiction of society from commercial cinema is a plain false expectation. Commercial cinema always has fictional characters and situations, there may be few real life inspired events but on the whole the commercial cinema is for entertainment only. Mostly the commercial film makers do ensure to also give a message through their commercial films but it is not necessary that every commercial film is message oriented. Commercial cinema runs on the demand and taste of the public who spend their hard earned money to watch the film. So whatever we see in our commercial films is the demand of our cine goers whether we like it or not. Be it songs, dances, over emotional dialogs and situations, loud and gaudy treatment, it all works for the masses who come to cinema for entertainment. Cinema is a restricted medium where visitors opt to come after buying the ticket, no one forces anyone to come to cinema. It is not like television or radio which is free to air or have nominal fees and have access to our houses.

Still to ensure that the limits are enforced, there are censor boards functioning in our country which ensures to remove any scene from the film which is inappropriate and not in line with the defined censor code. The members of our censor board comprises of vast honorable backgrounds. Apart from members from the artist fraternity the member of censor board are senior bureaucrats, retired army officers and even retired judges. So a commercial films comes to us after passing through multiple filters, who decide what is appropriate or inappropriate for a general cinema viewer. So these honorable members of the censor board also carry a major responsibility towards the content of our commercial films.

With respect to “Why no films on real issues with social theme are made in Pakistan”, the answer is there are plenty of such films on average four to five released every year. But sadly such films seldom prove successful and even struggle to cover their expenses. So for a person like me, who loves to rant and complain on social media and showbiz forums about why social theme or reality based films not made in Pakistan, the justified act should be to come out of my cozy drawing room (living room or bed room), go to the cinema, buy the ticket and watch such film. Like Saawan is releasing on 15th September 2017, so I should follow the saying “Actions Speak Louder Than Words“. The success of social themed films will attract further investment and when film makers knew that their is a considerable dedicated viewership of social themed films, they will definitely invest further in it. Consequently the number of such films will also increase. So if I am concerned about the content of Pakistani films, I also owe a certain level of responsibility towards it.

Thanks for your time and reading.

OST Of Upcoming Hum Tv Play “Khamoshi”

Hum Tv’s new play Khamoshi has us all excited and looking forward as it seems to offer something different. The leads are Affan Waheed and Iqra Aziz, the latter in a negative role this time.

They have just released the OST of the play, sung by Bilal Khan and Schumaila Hussain. The OST is not as impressive as the promos of this upcoming serial. There seems to be a lack of harmony between the singers. Nonetheless, we all still look forward to what Khamoshi has to offer its audience.

O Rangreza Episode 7 Review – Major Development!

Ohkay so, this episode was more like a decider which will now change the course of the story. This episode had a major twist to its credit & it will bring a drastic change in everyone’s life. It is quite interesting how with each passing episode, the viewers are getting to know the characters more & more, like every single time they show us something new, which we haven’t seen before to further form an opinion about them.

Khayyam has read Mumtaz inside out, he knows what to say & how to say anything to her in order to get it done & this is exactly why, he softened his tone, took her hand in his hand & then put forth his decision, making it manipulatively sound like a request that he wants to get married to Sonia Jahan. There’s a limit to walking all over your spouse but Khayyam Sani has no barriers. It was ironic how after getting Mumtaz’s answer, which he obviously was aware of, he had the audacity to ask her if he was being unfair or not? Has he left any choice for her? Has he given her any edge, any security, any respect or equality due to which Mumtaz would’ve told him that she disapproves his decision? That she was hurt? That he was being unfair?

Again, I totally get that Khayyam never respected or treated Mumtaz with love but upon being asked by Kareeman, Mumtaz had the same answer, that he wouldn’t have changed his mind if she would’ve told him. It is like Mumtaz has already given up, yes Khayyam has played a major part in shaping her mindset like that where she believes that nothing that she’d say or do would make Khayyam change his decisions but then again why was Mumtaz so sure? Why was she so sure that stopping Khayyam wouldn’t work? Mumtaz thinks being submissive is her only duty as a wife but then, showing possessiveness, demanding attention & putting forth her own opinion are also some of the responsibilities she has as a woman & then as a wife. That entire conversation was a life changing moment for both Khayyam & Mumtaz but the irony was that the outcome was pre-decided because both Khayyam & Mumtaz knew what was going to happen!

So, Sassi decided to have a conversation with Sonia Jahan, may be she wanted to tell her to back off only to get back at her father. Sassi would now do everything to take away the one Khayyam loves just the way he decided to take her away from the dreams she has always had. So, Sassi found out the truth about Sonia Jahan & her husband Wajih Kamal (Omair Rana). Sonia & Wajih both have an unhealthy relationship & Sonia is comfortably deceiving him by two timing with Khayyam. I loved Sassi’s reaction when she returned to her home after witnessing everything, like she could see how hard her father was going to suffer now. I know it is mean but Sassi is like that, she is finding repose in her father’s suffering. It was quite interesting to note how after getting a green signal from Mumtaz for his second marriage, Khayyam’s tone & attitude changed where he was again belittling her for being uncultured enough to even make a call & complain about the phone!

I loved the conversation that Sonia & Khayyam had, where Khayyam was now trying to act as her husband, questioning her about her choices & relations but Sonia on the other hand expected Khayyam to not act like a typical man, exactly what Sassi expected. I laughed at how Khayyam told Sonia that before this decision of his, she was just a celebrity but now she belonged to him, so all of a sudden his standards for her had changed. Sonia is just another Sassi that Khayyam will have to deal with, who will not budge & won’t put up with his double standards. Just a single confrontation was enough for Khayyam to have a break down so he really should analyze before jumping into the marriage.

Qasim’s break down was heart-breaking. It is sad that without even knowing Sassi can push Qasim to such a limit. Ever since coming back, Qasim has really been sensitive in the matters concerning Sassi & because of that he is only hurting himself more & more. Until Sassi sorts her stuff out, Qasim should really keep himself composed because if he will continue to sway with Sassi’s tantrums & attitude, he will end up hurting himself further.

I loved this episode overall & thoroughly enjoyed everyone’s performance. Noman Ejaz was phenomenal today & so was Irsa Ghazal. I am really looking forward to Omair Rana’s performance & character, I am sure he is not going to make things easier for Sonia & Khayyam both. Sana Fakhar has been at the top of her game now & it is a treat watching her on screen. Sajal Ali didn’t get much screen-time but her laugh was all that was needed to leave a mark. Bilal Abbas Khan has been phenomenal as Qasim, I don’t see any other actor fitting the character of Qasim like Bilal has. Definitely looking forward to the next episode, can’t wait. Please share your thoughts about this episode of O Rangreza.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Coke Studio Season 10 Episode 5- Best So Far!

0

Episode 5 of the season 10 aired today. The episode consisted of four songs as usual and the participating artists are Attaullah Esakhelvi, Sanwal Esakhelvi, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Faraz Anwer, Faiza Mujahid and Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan. This was a good one overall. Lets get to each song individually:

Sab Maya Hai:

Sung by Attaullah Esakhelvi and his son Sanwal Esakhelvi and the music directed by Shuja Haider, this is indeed a perfect song for me. Attaullah Esakhelvi is no doubt a legend and knows how to get inside his listeners’s hearts but surprisingly Sanwal did well too. The song was soothing and passionate at the same time which was a perfect combination. Shuja Haider finally has provided a treat for the ears. Loved this one. Though I think the song should have been named Ishq Pawayan Zanjeeran since Inshaa’s poetry got only a little part. Still a good addition indeed.

Rangrez:

Yes this is what Rahat Fateh Ali Khan capable to do. Music was directed by Sahir Ali Bagga. After the painful Sayonee Rahat is back to his usual self and yes his usual self is brilliant. A classical piece performed with class. Since Coke Studio mentioned Danyal for standing beside and playing guitar which was not very unique either, I think they should have mentioned the name of the guy who played shehnai. That music alone made this song what it sounded as a final product. A Coke Studio level product finally!

Ujaalon Main:

Sung by Faraz Anwer and Faiza Mujahid. Music is directed by Jaffer Zaidi. Faraz is also the man behind the original composition so he recreated his song. It was the rock song for the night and I find it just okay. It was not very good or extraordinary. Still better than the ones like Muntazir which were needlessly included in this season. Jaffer Zaidi is hands down the winner in this song. Music was very good but vocal part wasn’t extraordinary which made this one an average.

Bol:

Faiz Ahmed Faiz Sahab was given a tribute by Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan. Music director for this one is Shani Arshad. It could have been the best song of this season but the composition didn’t work. It was not bad but it was not mind blowing either. The music again was too slow and didn’t match with the gist of the lyrics. I am a sad song lover too but everything cannot be changed to lullaby kind of stuff. The music should have been more passionate. Shafqat although did a very good job as far as the vocals are concerned but the choice of music composition made this one  an average.

All in all this episode is by far the best one uptill now. Lets see what else is there in store. Which song was your favourite today? Share in comments!

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei Episode 23 Review – Intriguing!

Tonight’s episode of Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei was somewhat slow but it had some significant developments to its credit nonetheless. This latest episode laid the foundations for one of the most important twists in the story which will be seen in the next episode and which will change everything altogether. Tonight’s episode was also important because it altered the dynamics of Waqar and Maheen’s relationship with each other. There were some scenes which could have been chopped down and the background score was terribly annoying at times. Waqar and Maheen finally accepted and professed their love for each other, this was actually the moment that many of the viewers had been waiting for. I must say that there couldn’t have been a more perfect time to create this misunderstanding between these two individuals because right now otherwise it seems like nothing can wrong between them. Even Ami begum has accepted this relationship and is even happy that Waqar and Maheen are getting married. Although Gulrez is heart broken but he has proved that he is a really strong person who can put his feelings for Maheen aside and do whatever he can to let Waqar and Maheen know that he is happy for them. All the characters are at their best at the moment. Waqar and Maheen are finally head over heels in love and Jia is doing whatever she can to make sure that these two do not get their happy ending. Although Jia’s character isn’t the least bit likeable but without her this story wouldn’t have been as interesting as it is.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei Episode 23 Review - Intriguing!

Neelam’s scenes were used effectively to show how sure Gulrez was that Maheen was the one he was going to get married to. However, the fact that this bachpan ki mangni bit was completely missing from the first few episodes since Maheen was shocked to hear that she was getting married to Gulrez therefore it is definitely difficult even now to connect to this part of the story. While one feels for Gulrez, you can’t help but root for Maheen and Waqar since they love each other. It is also good to see them acknowledging the sacrifice Gulrez is making in different ways. I am glad that Gulrez’s character has not been relegated to the background in fact his character now is being given more screen time than before and his feelings are being highlighted. This is the reason why the viewers right now are equally interested in finding out why Neelam was standing in front of Gulrez’s picture and crying in the beginning of the drama. While Waqar and Maheen’s track seems predictable right now, it is difficult to predict what will happen to Gulrez once Waqar disappears on his wedding day. Gulrez was actually wearing a sherwani in the preview of the next episode!

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei Episode 23 Review - Intriguing!

The conversation about the thappar on the breakfast table was one such discussion which could have been chopped down or even if it wasn’t part of this episode, it wouldn’t have been missed! The conversation between Jia and Maheen showed how hard Jia was trying to remind Maheen how much she hated Waqar. It also reflected Jia’s feelings when Maheen was so willing to forgive Waqar and she admitted that she loved him! Jia’s father is completely out of the picture right now and I wonder if he will make an appearance again since besides Jia, he is the only one who knows what happened in the past.

The weakest link of this drama so far is the way it has been directed, other than that the story is getting more interesting and the drama is headed towards an ending which, it seems like, was worth waiting for. I am eagerly looking forward to the next episode and I also wish that Geo would keep its previews for the upcoming episodes short and sweet! The preview of the upcoming episode did not leave a lot to the viewers’ imagination unless the next episode has some surprise in store for the viewers! The youngsters in this drama are definitely giving more solid performances than the older members of the cast. Ayeza Khan, Imran Abbas, Shehzad sheikh and Kinza Hashmi gave impressive performances in this episode and have done complete justice to their characters throughout.

He throws the general advice think before you say into the air and without thinking the consequences of his actions, posts whatever is on his mind on his social media account. However, since a few months, Mr. Hamza has gotten a much better platform than social media to raise his voice- the mainstream media! He hosts the  programme “HQ Debate” and in a recent show, allegedly passed derogatory remarks about the Pakistani passport. The program was focused on the Rohingya Muslims ongoing crisis.

The Pemra statement reads: “Airing of such derogatory remarks amounts to spread of hatred and promotes anti-Pakistan sentiments.”

Actresses Noor & Saba Qamar in Trouble for Tax Evasion

0

We always complain that our politicians cheat the country by not giving their due taxes and to be fair, it is not fair to not pay your taxes, especially if you are among the ones that have the reins of the country. But paying the due taxes isn’t just a necessity for the politician. Each and every citizen has to pay taxes in where he/she lives. That includes celebrities too.

However, two of our most successful actresses have been found out to be tax evaders. According to various local news agencies (Geo News, Dunya News, Ary News)  FBR has sealed the houses of both the actresses and has stated that Noor has defaulted on tax worth Rs1.5 million, while Saba Qamar has defaulted on tax worth Rs 3.4 million.

Saba Qamar especially has had a terrific year, with her film Hindi Medium being a massive hit and receiving acclaim from not only Pakistan but across the border too. She is also playing the lead role in the TV drama Baghi.

Saba Qamar, however, has denied receiving any notice from FBR while Noor has yet to make any comments regarding the matter.

Actors Who Should Be Seen In Films!

Pakistani film industry is finally back on track with one or two good films coming out every year now. But some years since the revival we see similar faces on big screen repetitively. Although we have a lot of talent present, we only see Humayun Saeed, Danish Taimoor and Fahad Mustafa in cinemas among some other faces. So here is my list of actors who I think should be seen in films now. Take a look:

Imran Abbas Naqvi:

Actors Who Should Be Seen In Films!

Imran Abbas has been among the top leading men of the industry for quite sometime now. He ha given a lot of hit dramas in his career. He also starred as a lead in a film but no, not in a Pakistani film but a Bollywood flick. He also did a cameo in another. What I was wondering is why he has not been approached by any Pakistani film maker yet? He has the looks, acting skills and overall persona that he can step into a romantic hero role any day. I think it is high time that he start appearing in films where he can get substantial roles too unlike his Bollywood ventures where his characters had nothing to offer. Yes he did Abdullah but the film went unnoticed so he should start becoming a part of commercial cinema which people are now watching and loving the products of our local film industry.

Zahid Ahmed:

Actors Who Should Be Seen In Films!

Zahid has proved his mettle in a very short time. He started with Mehram and now is at the top of his game. He has done intense, mellow as well as psychotic roles. With the looks he has and the talent he possesses Zahid surely can be a part of a film like Ek Villain or Shutter Island. He will do justice to the role undoubtedly. He can also star in action flicks and will suite the role equally. Apart from casting the same faces again and again I think Zahid can prove to be a good choice for film makers.

Agha Ali:

Actors Who Should Be Seen In Films!

Agha Ali can be casted among a variety of roles. If anyone has seen Ghundi where he starred opposite Uroosa Siddiqui, they will agree with me. He can do the chocolate hero or angry young man any day too. With his latest stint in Be Intiha, I am convinced he will be great in typical stalker hero roles too where heroine is always confused and hero still keeps going after her Lollywood style (throw in some songs too lol). He has the personality which will allow him to win a lot of hearts if he stars in a feature film.

Noman Ijaz:

Actors Who Should Be Seen In Films!

From a cruel landlord to a politician and from a loving husband to a confused man in love he has already done everything. He can act as the father of Mikaal Zulfiqar in one play and can go on to star opposite Saba Qamar in the next, that is his range of acting prowess. Noman Ijaz can make a film alive any day with a strong character role as he make his dramas memorable with powerful performances. He will be starring in a film called Maidan as per the reports. He will be playing the role of a coach. But since there are no more updates on the film I felt like including him in the list because we need to see this man ruling the silver screens in the same way he rules our television screens.

Fahad Mirza:

Actors Who Should Be Seen In Films!

Fahad Mirza can do justice to a rom-com quite easily. He has mostly done those kinds of roles in dramas too and he is surely good at it. It would be a good idea to cast Fahad as some anti-hero too. Fahad will definitely be the best choice for a Pakistani Norman Bates if we ever make a desi Psycho. The guy who looks cute but is downright evil. So he can also be a valuable addition to film industry with a range of characters in which he would look suitable.

Imran Ashraf:

Actors Who Should Be Seen In Films!

I am extremely impressed with his way of performing. He makes every character look alive and a viewer can relate to it. The way he has performed Shamu in Alif Allah Aur Insaan is the recent proof how versatile he can be. Though I would not have thought of him being casted in some romance film but his cute boy role in Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua says otherwise. I think he can be perfect for a nerd boy meets carefree girl stories. So he should be a given a chance to show his talent in the films.

These are my suggestions for the faces who should be seen in films. Which other actors you think should be a part of films? Share in comments!

Teri Raza Episode 9 & 10 Review – Ridiculous!

Ohkay so, going by the previous 2 episodes, just when I was beginning to feel that the story & the characters of this drama were now starting to make some sense, this episode came as a ride that evokes motion sickness & makes you nauseous. The story & the characters were once again all over the place & the amount of screaming that happened in this particular episode has left me temporarily deafened. It is amusing to see the writer’s thought process where she is creating one unrealistic scenario after another to keep Suhana & Rameez linked with each other, so much so that almost the entire time I am left wondering where does this happen & on which planet?

I am not too sure what to make out of Suhana’s character, like in the previous episode, she was furious that her cousin Seema got a ride from Imtiyaz to the hospital when her mother was suddenly hospitalized, so much so that Suhana ended up misbehaving with her only to later apologize. It was quite considerate of Imtiyaz to bring Seema to his home & politely requesting her to clear off any misunderstanding that Suhana had. Even though it was Suhana who told Imtiyaz that he shouldn’t have put Seema in an awkward position but for Imtiyaz, Suhana’s peace of mind mattered the most & he made sure to do everything that would guarantee it. To me, Suhana is just like an immature, spoiled brat who wants things her way, even though she is not into this marriage but she didn’t appreciate Seema’s candidness with Imtiyaz? Why so? I am sure this was not because Suhana has become a bit possessive about her husband, it was more like Suhana didn’t have anything to create an issue over, so she grabbed this opportunity to keep her face forlorn for a couple of days more!

Even though Kiran’s character in Kankar had quite a substance but by the end of the drama even she started to irk me, for the reason that she was turning out to be someone who didn’t want anyone to say anything to her & for the exact same reason, Suhana reminded me of Kiran in these episodes as well. Yes, she is trying hard to fulfill her wifely duties but then she is still doing everything to let Imtiyaz know that she is not into this relationship emotionally & mentally & the moment someone says something to her, she goes into ‘mujhe kuch kyun kaha’ mode.

This episode was ridiculous if I have to describe it in one word. Apart from Imtiyaz, every single character was behaving ridiculously & for what reason, I am sure even the writer has no answer to that. It is so obvious that the writer wants to keep Suhana & Rameez linked to each other that is why such ridiculous situations keep on arising which make no sense whatsoever. As if Talat wasn’t enough that even Zafar decided to participate in the circus that his wife was a ring-master of. Just because Imtiyaz recommended Suhana’s friends in his firm for a job, both Talat & Zafar thought it was a good idea to tell Imtiyaz that his wife’s ex-boyfriend is one of the guys who has submitted his CV in his firm? Like seriously? Who would’ve thought of that & why? Why does Talat has these pangs every now & then that compel her to convey it to Imtiyaz that Suhana was dating someone before getting married to him? At one hand she wants Suhana to do everything to make this marriage work & on the other, she herself is doing everything to destroy it. Talat’s fixation with Rameez is beyond me. If Suhana & Imtiyaz have a spat, she calls up Rameez’s mother, now if he applied for a job in Imtiyaz’s firm (which he didn’t), she once again linked it to Suhana & called his mother? I wish Talat & Zafar had more kids because then they’d stop obsessing over Suhana’s ex boyfriend & do something productive.

The entire ex-boyfriend’s mother kidnapping Suhana was such a hilarious scenario & then to add more to the non-serious approach, Rameez’s father Sultan ended up faking a heart-attack to help Suhana run away from his wife’s house-arrest? Seriously? Suhana’s claim that wo Rameez ki aur Rameez uska kya lagta hai was so OTT, but then everyone in this mental family is OTT so no wonder why she was behaving this way. The amount of screaming & yelling that happened in this episode was sickening, like even after muting the TV I could still hear their howling. I must say, the award for coming up with the worst assumptions goes to Manzura, like no surprises why she behaves like a lunatic too, I am sure Suhana’s family has had quite an influence on her. I lol’ed when she told Talat that may be someone had shot Rameez & now Talat will be facing the brunt for it? Uf!

I am sure in the middle of all this, as per the preview, Seema will now try to call to dibs on Imtiyaz, since she is just as desperate as Suhana Desperatana & she has clearly seen that Suhana is still in love with Rameez & Imtiyaz holds no importance in her life, so she will try to make the most of the situation because even she has been behaving like a dog without the bone for quite sometime now, so yep, she will be doing everything to grab the bone this time around. But there’s one thing that I find actually quite amusing, if something happens in Suhana’s life, Rameez is immediately contacted & then blamed, similarly if something happens to Rameez, everyone calls Suhana up as if she is his mother & she has adopted him? Like don’t these guys have a basic common sense that Suhana is now married so why do they assume that she’d be in contact with Rameez, keeping a hawk-eye on his each & every move? This story is beyond ridiculous & I think it can be only watched as a serious-comedy but yes, I will warn all the readers to turn the volume down because these guys are out there with an agenda to deafen you & they can succeed in it considering the amount of screaming they did. I must say I am so disappointed in Sanam Baloch’s overall choice of character & even the portrayal, she has lost her charm, she has clearly forgotten how to act & I think she needs to sit back & revisit her choices if someone (after such a substandard performance) approaches her for another drama! Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Teri Raza!

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Long gone are the days when females were casted into dramas and movies because the man needed a prop. Slowly but gradually the whole world has taken a feminist approach in entertainment business, just like many other businesses and our showbiz has followed suit.

In our dramas that come a dime a dozen, there are certainly some very memorable characters played by strong headed independent women, and their hallmark is not that they were born or married rich or were bestowed with extraordinary beauty that made them use these things to their advantage. Rather, the emphasis is on the girls next door.. flawed, imperfect, ordinary and yet they have a spirit that is totally unbreakable. It’s about women who stand up for themselves, for their values and for their relations. Our dramas have evolved into some very women centred themes and have succeeded brilliantly. Here we will discuss some memorable roles played by women in characters that stood true to themselves and went after what they wanted, not what the society would expect them to want. The list is b no means exclusive, and there’s must be more characters that left a mark, but we will discuss a few of them here.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Zindgi Gulzar Hai was written by Unera Ahmed, who is a very unconventional feminist and Sanam Saeed blew life into Kashaf and made her a legend for years to come. Kashaf was strong headed to the point of being stubborn. She held her dignity highest and was willing to give it any required sacrifice. Raised by a single educated mother and absent father, Kashaf was the prime example of a self made girl out to touch the horizons. The play must have given young girls the idea that anything is possible as long as you work with integrity.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Kankar was about a girl standing up to a husband who loved her and pampered her and spoilt her with presents and yet did not think it was a big deal to take out a little bit of anger here and there on his wife, especially if she dared to start or contribute to an argument. Their economic differences made no problem for Kiran as she placed her self respect at a much higher place than all that her abusive husband’s money could buy. Despite being called extremely lucky to have married into such riches, she stood her ground and refused to get intimidated by the fact that she was a very ordinary girl while he was a big industrialist. She was an inspiration to the women especially in Pakistan who remain mute for years over domestic abuse. It was a powerful drama in every meaning that it managed to convey.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Shanakht was about a girl who was born and brought up very liberally and then suddenly a friend of hers ignited he light of truth in her heart and that is how she becomes a practising Muslim. From breaking old friendships to be labelled as an outcast, Annie stood firm in her beliefs and the faith that she had just embraced. At her inlaws place, she was the most humble, gentlest soul and that is how she faced all trials..with a steady soothing  calm that had become her hallmark since she had delved into Islamic practices so wholeheartedly, and that too coming from an elite society where it is entirely unheard of.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

The Udaari women deserve a round of applause for making women all over the world so proud of being women. They were all village simpletons who showed their fighter spirits once they were out of that orthodox environment. From Sheedan to Sajjo to Meera to Zebo, these girls were stories in themselves. They were uneducated, yet the lesson of self awareness was learnt by them without any formal education. They stood up for eachother and became a clan where the injured and wounded is so well supported that soon there is no injured party in the whole clan. Hats off to all of them for telling their audience what women can do when it falls down to their shoulders and how a mother can fight for every demon that comes her way.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Ayesha Khan is certainly not one to deviate much from the societal norms and formula performances but in “khuda mera bhi hai”, she was a legend. A mother of gender queer child who had to give up her marriage for that child, Ayesha Khan did a brilliant job in portraying the grief, the sorrow, all the while defending her baby. Ayesha Khan showed the unprecedented love of a mother for her flawed child and her burning desire to make his life count for something worthwhile. The idea behind the drama that a mother can stand up for her imperfect child and make his life as normal as possible was just amazing and exactly what women of today need.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Anmol is the heart of Dillagi, a woman unimpressed by the status of her suitor, a woman after her own heart and a fiery soul, she was not easily defeatable. It is not that everything she did was right but she was true to her own self all along, be it love or hate, she was not doing anything to please anyone, no matter whom. Mehwish Hayat is such a natural in these roles that you cannot help thinking that she does not perform them, she owns them, through and through.

Baaghi Episode 7 Review – Impressive Performances

This was the best episode of Baaghi so far because it covered a great deal and with this episode the story finally moved forward to the next phase of Fauzia’s life. In the previous episode the viewers were shown that even though Fauzia’s circumstances were not favorable and her marriage was gradually falling apart but even then she kept on reminding herself that this was not the life she wanted. This episode showed Fauzia’s frustration after every woman she turned to for advice and support told her that there was nothing odd about the way her marriage turned out because all husbands were unfaithful and wives had to put up with it. The reaction of Fauzia’s mother in particular was covered brilliantly; the way she kept on enjoying her snack and wasn’t the least bit alarmed said a great deal about her frame of mind! In fact her mother told her that she already knew that Abid was having an affair and acted as if Fauzia was overreacting. This was yet another incident which showed that Fauzia was not like all these other women; she had standards all of her own. Eventually Fauzia had no choice but to go back to the same house and this was yet another development which was covered superbly. Fauzia’s emotional goodbye and the way her mother in law greeted her said a great deal about everyone felt about the situation. For the first time, her younger brother expressed his support for Fauzia. Saba Qamar and Ali Kazmi’s phenomenal performance made their scenes even more realistic. Both of them have given exceptional performances in the play.

Baaghi Episode 7 Review - Impressive Performances

When Fauzia packed her bags to leave, I wasn’t expecting her to go back to Abid’s house but so far she has been shown as someone who does not take extreme measures until and unless she is left with absolutely no choice. Also, Fauzia has always been very “focused”, her main goal in life is to pursue a career in showbiz. Even when she decided to get married to Abid, the main motivation was the promise he made to her regarding her ambitions about working in showbiz some day. So far Fauzia did not get an opportunity to pursue her ambition but now for the first time she has an offer which she believes can change her life forever. I cannot praise Saba Qamar enough for enacting this role faultlessly on screen, she is the best thing about this play. Her overall look, from her wrinkled clothes to those cheap clips and the messed up hairstyle is right on point. (Alprazolam) The way her expressions and body language change with every situation makes her portrayal picture perfect. Saba Faisal and Seemi Raheel are also giving superb performances in this play and I must say that they simply get better with every episode.

Fauzia’s brother should have been given some screen time in tonight’s episode since he was one of those people in the house who was dead against her marriage. He has not made an appearance for quite some time now which is rather odd especially because there are already very few characters in the play. Overall, this was an intense and emotional episode of Baaghi and the first one which actually held my interest right till the end. The preview of the next episode was also interesting; I am waiting to find out what turn Fauzia’s life takes from here since she has absolutely no support from any of her family members and is all alone in the city!

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Yaar e Bewafa Episode 10 Review – Pick Up The Pace Please!

Ohkay so, one track finally got a closure in this episode & now I am looking forward to the second phase of the story. I must say the pace of the drama is way too slow & I am not sure if this is how the pace is going to be or it will slow down further. I really think a few & new twists & turns are required to keep the drama engaging, so let’s hope for the best.

Just like I predicted, seeing Ahmed all happy with the luxuries he was getting because of his mother at his grandfather’s place, Zaid felt like a failure & that is what pushed him to accept Fizza’s demand. Zaid gave up on everything only for the sake of his son because even he admitted that he could never afford to give Ahmed what he wanted. Zaid realized that there was no need to fight so hard because realistically, he couldn’t do as much as Fizza would for their child, so he accepted it as his fate.

Fizza also ended up taking the case back, I liked this development because it was unpredictable & I didn’t see it coming. At least they both didn’t get divorced but just got separated because they both had different priorities. I think this was the mature way to go about it. Yes, in her anger & frustration, Fizza really pushed things to the limit but then understood Zaid’s perspective & realized that there was no need to end this relationship, at least this way Ahmed would always have someone whom he’d know as his father. Zaid wasn’t stopping Fizza from leaving so there was no need for her to divorce him.

I literally forwarded all of Saleem’s scenes because I am tired of his yells & screams. I think Amna is thinking in the right direction that she should work so that at least she can provide some decent meals to her son. It is ridiculous that Saleem expects Amna to starve herself but not say a word. I really can’t wait for things to kick-start in Amna’s life where there would be everything except Saleem’s screaming. I think now that Amna is looking for work, someone will get Zaid & Amna in touch with each other where she will take care of his mother, may be this will be the job that Saleem would approve of.

Overall, this episode was pretty simple & didn’t give much to talk about apart from Zaid & Fizza’s decision of not divorcing each other. I must say the dependence on flashbacks was way too much in this episode & literally by forwarding those flashbacks, I watched this entire episode in nearly half the time. Really want things to get going now & I think they will since Zaid is giving hard time to the aunt who is taking care of his mother, so Zaid will definitely be needing someone else to look after Humera. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yaar e Bewafa.

Danyal Zafar Talks About His Awesome Big Brother

Danyal Zafar has started to gain his own footing in the music industry that was very much in awe of his big brother. Recently, in a video which is BTS of Coke studio season 10, Danyal talks about his big brother Ali Zafar.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BYqcccJlqe_/

Danyal tells that his brother is his inspiration and his pride and he does not have words to explain how it feels to perform with him. He further added about their song “julie” that the brothers jammed up the tune in their kitchen. Watching them perform together is a powerhouse of entertainment in itself.

Daldal Episode 3 & 4 Review – A Decent Watch!

Ohkay so, the story of Daldal has made quite some progress in these last two episodes. I like watching this drama for the fact that it shows the struggles, ambitions & dreams of regular people. It also shows how certain dreams can drive people to do things they wouldn’t do otherwise. This drama for sure highlights the fever that prevails in our society where younger generation thinks settling abroad is the only way to go & that will solve all of their dilemmas while completely overlooking the challenges & hardships one has to face while settling away from one’s family outside Pakistan!

Shuja & Hira got married & the very first thing Shuja conveyed to Hira was that he expects her to stand by him through thick & thin. He expects her to follow his lead & never question back. Shuja has clearly seen that Hira is not only madly in love with him but she is a bit too submissive, so he plans on exploiting this trait of hers to his advantage. Hira’s parents obviously did more than Sakina & even Shuja could imagine & they literally spoiled Hira’s in laws with so much stuff that they never would’ve thought of. It was sad that just in a few days Hira understood that things weren’t going to be easy & reality was much more different to the dreams that she & Shuja weaved about their married life together. The biggest shock that Hira got was when Shuja ordered her to convey his message to her parents. Hira never imagined that Shuja could say such a thing because all this while, they only spoke about living ‘together’ but now she could see that being with Hira was not his priority in the first place.

I like Hira’s character, like I liked the way she spoke to her mother about her in laws & then conveyed Shuja’s message to her. Hira never really said that it was Shuja who pushed her to do that, but she tried to make her mother aware of her in-law’s financial condition, only to convince her mother that letting Shuja settle in London was the only option left for his entire family. Hira tried to tell her mother how hard Sakina’s life was & how they had to do so much to keep things going. Despite being aware of their financial condition, Shaheen & Faraz accepted Shuja but they never would’ve thought that Shuja had an ulterior motive which he would put forth in such an early stages of the marriage.

Sakina is lucky that Shuja takes after her, because then she gets to share her frustrations with him. At least out of all her kids, Shuja is just as ambitious as Sakina that is why he bonds with her so well. I like the way they have shown that Kamran is just like his father, whereas Shuja is like his mother, who only wants more from life & doesn’t believe in settling for what is required to lead a simple & peaceful life.

I like Saniya’s character too. It was good to see Saniya & Fahad discussing their father’s means of income, like they both have grown up & they can differentiate between right & wrong. I think Saniya’s mother is going to suffer from some sort of disease for her husband to realize that no matter how much money you make, it will never benefit you if it isn’t clean. I am not too sure if there was a need to introduce or even add Tamana & Bilal’s track in the story, because it looks like an over-dosage of ‘mohallay ka pyaar’. Also they both are way too young for their track to have anything interesting about it. I really wish they had hired a guy a bit older to play the character of Bilal because going by the nature of his character, where he is shown standing up by his sister, also being Hira’s confidant & being someone who supports his mother emotionally, the actor is a total misfit due to his age, may be this is also another reason why seeing him getting candid with Tamanna left a bad taste in mouth!

Sadly, Hira’s dreams were crumbled when Shuja decided to make it clear to her what his dreams meant to him. It was sad that Sakina ignited the fire & stood there as a cold-hearted spectator when Shuja was dragging Hira out of the house. I really want to see what Shaheen & Faraz’s reaction would be. Shaheen does have a valid point, since she has spent her entire life without her husband being around, she exactly knows what Hira will go through if Shuja will go to abroad, that is why she isn’t in the favor of this plan but sadly, may be she’ll have to budge seeing Hira’s ordeal!

Overall, this drama is pretty basic but interesting. I will say that I like tuning to it because it is a very decent watch but somehow I am not warming up to the characters, like I am unable to put a finger on it but there is something missing from the characters, may be the depth or the insight or may be the director couldn’t really bring these characters to life because right now, they just seem like fictional characters showcasing the struggles of real-life characters but without much connection with it. I am definitely going to continue to watch this drama but I wish I feel something for the characters, like I do understand them & find them nicely written but the treatment is a bit off. All the actors have done a great job, Armeena Rana Khan is a very good choice for Hira’s character & she is doing justice to it. I wish I could say that about Zahid Ahmed too, yes, he is portraying Shuja’s role just the way it was required but I am not too sure about his acting. In the past, Zahid Ahmed has already showcased how fine he can be as an actor when he is effortless at acting, but now he seems to be putting too much of an effort to an extent of over-doing it & that really is hindering him from leaving an impact. Anyways, please share your thoughts about these last 2 episodes of Daldal.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi & Na Maloom Afraad 2 – Which One Is The Winner?

This year for the first time Pakistani filmmakers gave the cinema goers two exceptional films to choose from. Punjab Nahi Jaungi and Na Maloom Afraad 2 both boasted of an impressive cast and crew and cinematic experience with two completely different flavors. The producers and the team members involved in making these films went out of their way and worked hard to promote these films. The competition between these two films was fierce even before they were shown in cinemas and at the same time it was great to see actors supporting each other. At the end of the day, it really did look like everyone involved cared more about the success of the revival of the Pakistani film industry as opposed to looking after their own interests, which has been the most positive aspect of watching the film industry grow by leaps and bounds over the past few years.

Here is a comparison of both the films which will give the viewers a better insight into what to expect from them and in the end a verdict stating which film is most likely to win the viewers over.

The Plots & The Dialogues

The main plots of both these films are entirely different from each other. While Punjab Nahin Jaungi banks heavily on emotions and explores the dynamics of relationships when people from two different worlds come together, Na Maloom Afraad 2 relies entirely on comical events and situations to take the story forward and manages to entertain the viewers without delving into the emotional element of the relationship between the characters.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi’s dialogues have Khalil-ur-Rehman written all over them! Like many other scripts written by the writer, these dialogues revolve around the concept of love as perceived by different characters in the story and many of these dialogues also have a comical element which too is not devoid of meaning. Na Maloom Afraad 2’s dialogues are mostly fun and witty, meant for the common man but there are times when the humor gets too dirty. Having said that, overall, Na Maloom Afraad 2’s script is more crisp whereas Punjab Nahi Jaungi does have a few scenes which could have been chopped down. The emotional quotient of Punjab Nahi Jaungi’s script however outweighs that of Na Maloom Afraad 2’s story.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi & Na Maloom Afraad 2 - Which One Is The Winner?

The Characters & The Performances

The leading characters of NMA2 are the same as they were in the prequel with a slight difference in their class & appearances but the overall personalities of these characters are the same. While all these characters are enjoyable, you do not form an emotional bond with any of them since the film focuses more on the events instead of exploring the characters. Fahad Mustafa, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Javaid Sheikh have given solid performances and even though the female leads don’t have a big role to play in the story but they have done complete justice to their respective characters.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi on the other hand has a strong male lead and even with all his flaws Fawad Khagga manages to steal the show. Humayun Saeed’s impressive performance and screen presence makes up for the weaknesses in his character. Mehwish Hayat is effortless as Amal. There are however times when Urwa Hocane stands out more than Mehwish Hayat. Saleem Mairaj, Ahmed Ali Butt, Naveed Shehzad Saba Hameed and Sohail Ahmed have also given exceptional performances in the film.

Na Maloom Afraad is a male-centric film hence the female characters have completely been relegated to the background. Punjab Nahi Jaungi on the other hand focuses equally on the male and female leads. While Na Maloom Afraad 2 failed to distribute screen time justly among all the characters, Punjab Nahi Jaungi does complete justice to all its characters by giving them ample screen time and allowing them to contribute to the story. There is a good reason why Urwa Hocane chose to promote PNJ; she definitely got a fair chance to showcase her talent in Punjab Nahin Jaungi and was absolutely brilliant as Durdana.

The Direction & Cinematography

Both these films have been directed skillfully and the beautiful cinematography makes them both a visual treat. While Punjab Nahi Jaungi beautifully explores the raw beauty of Punjab and has an Eastern flavor, Na Maloom Afraad has been shot in Cape Town, South Africa and has a more modern feel to it. Nadeem Baig and Nabeel Qureshi yet again have proved that both of them are phenomenal directors who always manage to translate their ideas faultlessly on screen. Both these films are brilliantly executed and the directors have used all the modern technology available to their advantage.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi & Na Maloom Afraad 2 - Which One Is The Winner?

The Songs & Choreography

Punjab Nahi Jaungi is definitely a winner in this department because it has plenty of songs, all of them are beautifully composed, are different from one another and the way they have been shot and choreographed is impressive as well. Na Maloom Afraad 2’s songs completely fit in the situations and scenarios being shown at that time but the film does not have enough songs and not a single song which includes the female leads . Also, the songs have been used to add “masala” to the film unlike Punjab Nahi Jaungi which does not attempt to do so.

The Verdict

Both these films have far more strengths than weaknesses therefore they both have the potential of winning the hearts of the viewers and winning big at the box office. They offer something completely different from each other but both of them are entertaining and impressive in their own way. While Punjab Nahi Jaungi offers family drama with a filmy touch, Na Maloom Afraad 2 is the kind of film you would enjoy watching with friends. PNJ will give you catchy phrases and will make you laugh and cry at the same time. Na Maloom Afraad will make you laugh with tears rolling down your face! Most importantly, Na Maloom Afraad 2 and Punjab Nahi Jaungi deliver exactly what they promised and perhaps even more. Both these films will make you proud of how far Pakistani films have come over the years.

Yakeen Ka Safar Episode 21 Review – Brilliant!

Ohkay so, I am so glad to say that finally after such a long time I got to watch an episode of Yakeen Ka Safar that I loved. From direction to locations to dialogues to acting to situations, everything was just perfect & may be this is what the viewers were waiting for. Even though if we analyze, not much happened in this episode but the situation that was brought to the front had so much going on in it that it made this episode seem quite engaging irrespective of the slow pace.

It was amusing how Asfand deliberately eavesdropped on Zubiya, because he already has an idea that he has left quite an impression on Zubiya, so he didn’t mind what she said because this is something that even Gaiti has been telling him about. Asfand has actually started to realize that he is not only hard on Zubiya or other doctors but himself as well, that is why I felt in this episode, we saw a slight shift in his attitude where he was trying to be as candid & cheerful as possible.

So, all the doctors went for a medical camp & that’s where Zubiya got to showcase her potential as a doctor to not only Asfand but to the rest of the team as well. Their medical camp was a success & it ended on a high note but what made it even better was the sudden medical case that Zubiya had to deal with. I found it quite amazing that out of all the people, Asfand was there to see Zubiya’s moment of glory because he is the one who was always skeptical about her & her credibility as a doctor. I loved how calm Zubiya was & how relieved she felt when she tackled a complicated case all by herself that too in the most unfavorable conditions.

This episode showed us a different side to Asfand, a side which was now thinking more & more about Zubiya. What I loved is that Zubiya didn’t go out of the way to prove herself to Asfand, like she didn’t make an effort but only kept her entire focus on her work because she knew this is what Asfand expected from her. Now when Asfand got to spend some time with Zubiya, he not only saw how good she was as a doctor but he got a glimpse, an insight into her nature & character too. Who would’ve thought that just a small advice from Zubiya to the patient’s husband/child’s father would make such an impact on Asfand that he’d be taken back to Faryal & the bad memory that he had of her where she created a havoc over her bag getting ruined. I think this was the first step that Asfand unintentionally took towards Zubiya because now she was on his mind & for a very different reason. I liked this entire situation because of the way it was portrayed, like it showed that just by spending some time with Zubiya, Asfand was getting to know more & more about her & while it was happening, Zubiya had no idea that Asfand had his sights on her, he was reading her, trying to know her better.

Oh well, obviously things were meant to be shaky & that’s why, the moment they stepped back into the hospital, Asfand got a chance to complain about what Zubiya did & how. Asfand can’t help it, when he is in the hospital he wants nothing but the best & that is why, he didn’t let anything influence his feelings, not even the hard-work that Zubiya put in during the camp & he ended up giving Zubiya a piece of his mind. It was realistic because Asfand is not some immature teenager who would change his attitude because now he had a different perspective about someone, yes, he got to know Zubiya a little, he appreciated her hard-work & her nature but when it comes to work, he won’t budge & he made that clear.

Bahadur continued to pester Kharjista but what was note worthy is how Kharjista’s MIL has changed & it is only because of Zubiya. Who would’ve thought that Zubiya’s friendship will bring some sort of change in Kharjista’s life because for the first time, her MIL was supporting her & she was trying to protect her from Bahadur’s tantrums. I must say even though Rustam is a supporting character but I like seeing him because he is positive, a very decent character & the stark difference between him & Bahadur make him stand out a bit more. It is good that in Kharjista’s family, there is at least one person who sympathizes with her.

Overall, this episode was brilliant & I had a great time watching it. I must say I loved the on-screen chemistry between Ahad & Sajal, they both looked so good together as Asfand & Zubiya. Even though I wasn’t too keen on Rehan’s character but seeing the preview of the next episode had me laughing because I am loving how he is on Sheema’s case. Does this mean Rehan will finally become another Abbi for Zubiya, who after being lost for quite some while will now realize his mistakes & understand his responsibility towards her? I think with this change in Rehan’s character, I want to see more of him, like I want to see him taking control & changing things for the better. Sajal Ali & Ahad Raza Mir performed brilliantly in this episode & the rest of the cast did a great job in supporting them as well. I am still enjoying Mani’s scenes, he is good as Dr. Haroon & I like that he breaks the monotony of serious nature of the drama & brings in some lightheartedness. The director deserves full marks for directing this episode to perfection & for showcasing the beauty of Pakistan as well, those scenic locations were used to the fullest to give this episode a calming feel & it was brilliant. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yakeen Ka Safar.

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 20 Review – Interesting!

Ohkay so, this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan didn’t have much to offer except the bitter & sweet experiences that each of the characters are having at the moment. There were a few emotional bits that I enjoyed watching because it kept me connected to the story but in general I feel the story should move forward a bit more & for that I am looking forward to the next episode because the preview did promise some change.

Reena is flying high & she is not only dreaming but is getting to live her dream. It is actually quite interesting to note how the writer has shown Reena’s transition, from that God fearing beggar who was way too conscious about right & wrong to a courtesan who is not only proud of what she does but thinks she is unstoppable. Chaman Begum is the only person around Reena who is trying to keep her grounded but then who pays heed to a mere servant, in-spite of her being right? Reena now has everything that she ever wantedl fame, wealth & the attention of someone to such an extent that he is ready to do everything for her, so it makes her feel empowered & a bit too over confident that nothing could go wrong in her life. I think Nawazish Ali is going to be Reena’s undoing, even though he is giving her all the attention that she wants, but he will most certainly draw a line when he will get to know Reena’s true intentions. Where nothing else would go wrong for Reena, this might be something that will bring her back to the ground & make her realize that no one gets everything that they desire. Reena surely has started to think that she’d be able to get married to Nawazish, but time will tell!

Out of all the people stuck in this messy situation together, I feel the most for Basit & his family. Who would’ve thought that just because of a selfish person like Nazneen, a loving father will end up detesting & doubting his own son. Who would’ve thought that a focused & driven son like Basit would become a culprit in front of his own family. Who would’ve thought that only because of Nazneen’s immaturity, a father & son’s ideal relationship will get strained? Basit was his parents’ pride & joy, he was their support, they relied on him & now, only because of Nazneen, Qadir is avoiding Basit & Basit is facing the brunt for no good reason. Basit was at such a good place before Nazneen came into his life & now looking at how he is not himself anymore, it really makes me feel for him. I wish before firing Qadir Ali, Malik Hashmat had reanalyzed the entire situation to actually understand that it was Nazneen who was at fault & not Basit. That’s the difference between both Qadir & Hashmat as fathers, where one didn’t turn a blind eye to his son’s fault but the other conveniently put the entire blame on someone else & forgot about the hell his own daughter put him through. It was so sad seeing Qadir Ali speaking about Malikh Hashmat with so much of disappointment, like all that he ever knew was being loyal to him but seeing how Hashmat forgot about all that Qadir had done for him definitely hurt Qadir to no end. I am sure or let’s say I hope that Nazneen will pay the price for ruining a completely happy family & taking away the peace out of their lives.

Shahzeb has given up already, for the first time he not only felt jealous but complained to Nazneen too because he is still unable to understand that there’s nothing he could do that would change Nazneen’s behavior towards him. Even though I don’t appreciate Nazneen’s character because of what she put Basit’s family through, but I think she is at least right in her stance where she has clearly told Shahzeb what’s in her heart, like she is not being a hypocrite about it where she is posing to be his wife while having someone else in her heart & mind. Yes, Shazheb is a very decent man but then he did overlook the fact that Nazneen was not in this relationship & very selfishly he continued with the marriage, so now Nazneen is suffering herself but making him suffer too, which I think on her behalf seems fair!

I wish there was more to Shammo’s track, like I liked seeing him back, but I want to see more than just a few emotional flashbacks. Yes, one thing that does give me some hope is how his Ustad told him to take care of people around him & empower them so that they can do something for themselves, just the way he did with Shammo, may be this will encourage Shammo & change the course of his life. Till date, Shammo has made himself sufficient enough to support his people but now, he might think of doing something for others too! I must say after Qadir’s scenes, Shammo’s conversations with his family were my favorite too.

Overall, this episode was pretty decent & I had a good time watching it but I am left with wanting to see more at the moment. The pace of the drama has been its strength till this stage & I did expect things to slow down a bit so it’s understandable but still, it is good that they are showing that each & every character has something going on in their lives, but can we have a bit more please? Oh yes, two new characters were introduced too, the art students, Zymin & the guy (whose name I couldn’t pick) so I am looking forward to what they’re going to bring to the table. I must say, this drama has remained engaging & intense so far, I just can’t wait to see the rest of the story & I wish it ends on a similarly stronger note too. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

Amir Khan Buries the Hatchet with Anthony Joshua

0

Amir Khan blew up the internet the day he accused his wife of cheating on him with a fellow boxer Anthony Joshua. HIs wife called his claims absurd and Anthony also denied these allegations immediately. A day or two after the said tweet, Amir finally learnt that he was wrong. Amir has still decided to part ways from Faryal, but the fact that he was wrong about Anthony doesn’t change.

Yet, there didn’t seem to be any reconciliation between the two boxers until recently, when Anthony proved to be the bigger person and decided to call Amir Khan and clear the air. In an interview to TheSun, the Pakistani origin British boxer said,

He rang me, he spoke to me. Everything is cool.

I said: ‘look, everything was a misunderstanding and we just put a bag over it’

He goes: ‘I want be able to come over and shake your hand, champ.’

We want to keep that respect and love.

Birthday Girl: Momina Mustehsan!

0

25 years ago Momina Mustehsan was born in Lahore today. The singer, song-writer gained fame from her performances in Coke Studio. Her rendition of “Afreen Afreen” with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan became one of the most viewed coke studio songs and following her debut she became one of the most sought-out media personalities in Pakistan. There’s no doubt that very few people manage to receive this much fame at such a tender age.

Her first encounter with music happened in 2004, when she recorded her first cover of the song “The Blower’s Daughter”. She didn’t have any musical training then yet was praised a lot. Clearly, her voice is God-gifted.

We wish her a very Happy Birthday and wish her best for her future. Here’s her career-making and life changing performance of Afreen afreen:
