Khuda Aur Mohabbat Episode 21 Review – Perfection!

Ohkay so, I am so so so glad that this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat gave me what I was looking for & that were some beautiful & heartfelt conversations between Hammad & Sarah. Yes, obviously Isaac had to be there to spoil the episode but then again, he reminded me of that ‘clove’ which shows up in your morsel & the best you can do is shove it at the corner of the plate & enjoy your meal because few things are just there to add some flavor but are not necessarily meant to be enjoyed, however, I will thank Syed Mazhar Ali/Isaac for making me laugh out loud while watching this episode & I will tell rather show you guys the sight which made me laugh at the end of this review. Anyways, what a magical episode it was & what beautiful performances by both Imran Abbas & Kubra Khan. I think both Imran & Kubra should take a bow for portraying Hammad & Sarah’s characters to perfection because I am a 100% sure that no other actors could’ve achieved what they have through their phenomenal & flawless performances! :)

So, I must say I pity Isaac even more, like Ishaaq se Isaac to ban gaye lekin apne andar ka desi murgha nahi maar sakay. Seriously, to see him being overly concerned for his daughter just because she chooses to hang out with Hammad is quite amusing. It looks like just because Isaac was so infatuated & fascinated with the American lifestyle, he gave Sarah quite a lot of freedom to make her own choices but ever since her choices are not in accordance with Isaac’s he has started showing signs of being a typical desi father who would prefer getting her married to a goon but won’t allow her to befriend someone he detests. Also, Isaac is full of contradictions, like he wouldn’t mind sending Sarah to New York with Zeeshan who is probably quite khaufnaak & khatarnaak but when it comes to Hammad he shows how small minded he is, probably just as small as a clove is!

So, Sarah has definitely developed some feelings for Hammad, that is why she not only grew curious but decided to discuss her concerns with Hammad personally too. Obviously, for Hammad to recall his past is still quite painful, that is why he hesitated in telling Sarah everything but when she couldn’t curb her curiosity, she decided to speak to Rebecca about it. I actually felt relieved that Hammad had already told Sarah that there was no place for love in his life anymore, because then Sarah didn’t immediately believe the lie Rebecca told saying Hammad is in love with me. Sigh! Her wishful thinking. I really think even after so much of attempts & efforts, when Hammad isn’t reciprocating the similar feelings, so Rebecca should back off!

Just because Sarah has started feeling something for Hammad, she wanted to know him better, it was more like she wanted to put a finger on what it was that set Hammad apart from the crowd, what is it about him that made him so unique & special & luckily, they both got into a conversation where Hammad decided to share everything with Sarah. It was quite interesting hearing their different perspectives about the movie that they just watched because Sarah was speaking on the basis of something which she felt but what Hammad said came after his personal experience. I don’t blame Hammad when he speaks about love in such a manner that it is something which only brings sadness to one’s life, because even after being so sincere, he has been through so much & ended up losing his beloved, so it would take a lot for him to get convinced again that love doesn’t necessarily bring grief & sorrow with it & now that Sarah’s on it, I am sure she will bring him out of this misery!

I loved the conversations that Hammad & Sarah shared, which started off by discussing the movie, then it came to love, then Hammad’s past, about Imaan, her hijab & her death which definitely convinced Sarah that Hammad who himself is so broken & shattered wasn’t capable of doing something which her father accuses him of. Ever since Hammad has come to the US, he hasn’t spoken to anyone about Imaan, may be that’s why he felt that the burden was becoming overbearing, so he decided to share everything with her. I must say, so far my favorite scene of the entire drama after Hammad & Imaan’s last meeting & the platform scene would be the Church scene where Hammad cried hysterically because he held so much inside him for so long & now he finally found a ‘friend’ he could rely on & who was ready to listen to him, wasn’t judging him & most importantly was trying to understand him a little better, it was just beautiful. I will say that in that scene even though both Hammad & Sarah were on a different tangent, the chemistry of Imran Abbas & Kubra Khan was simply beautifullll, I can’t emphasize on that enough, I loved that entire scene so much!

I love the emotional transition of Sarah so far, where she acknowledges the fact that Hammad has proved her wrong so many times by showing her a completely different picture of what Islam is & how Muslims are like. To see Sarah understanding Hammad more & not believing the lies her father has been feeding her all her life anymore is so satisfying. I must say, the way Sarah spoke highly of Hammad’s likeness for Hijab made me feel that may be, she will bring herself to try it too just to please Hammad & more than that, to actually understand the reason & the wisdom behind it. I can’t wait to see all these changes that Sarah will bring in herself because she has stepped on a right path & now she just has to go with the flow.

Once again, just when I was smiling ear to ear after such a beautiful scene, like I usually do after a very wholesome & delicious meal, the clove; in this case Isaac showed up to make his presence felt that he is also a part of this dish, anyways, I loved that Hammad gave him such a perfect reply & showed him his right place. It was quite amusing that Hammad let Isaac know that he didn’t care a dime about his hatred or his agendas & honestly at this point, even I don’t because I know that this is all that Isaac’s character has got to offer, so it’s better to ignore him a clove! Anyways, I am really happy with this episode & I enjoyed it thoroughly. Every single frame, every single scene, every single conversation, even the flashbacks, just everything was perfectttt & it worked. Imran Abbas & Kubra Khan should definitely take a bow for doing justice to Hammad & Sarah’s characters & making us connect with them on a whole new level. Kubra Khan I must say looked gorgeous in this episode especially. I can’t wait for the next episode already. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Khuda Aur Mohabbat.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

PS: Thank you so much Sir Isaac for this!

Khuda Aur Mohabbat Episode 21 Review - Perfection!

Khuda Mera Bhi Hai Episode 22 Review – Going Around In Circles

There was a time, not very long ago, when I used to wait for this drama to go on air mainly because of the fact that I never had any trouble connecting to all the characters in this drama. Another reason why Khuda Mera Bhi Hai was one of my most favorite plays for a long time was that it had a lot of characters which defied stereotypes. It was also one of those very few dramas in which working women were not shown as heartless women! For the past few weeks however the story has been stagnant. The pace of the drama has slowed down and a lot of what we have been seeing is more repetitive than anything else. Mikael and Mahgul’s track is being dragged to the limit and Noor’s success story doesn’t have the same impact now which it had before. A lot of scenes in every episode are choppy as well, that was always the case but now that the story lacks substance and has slowed down these flaws are standing out more than ever.

Arshi and Zain are also taking their sweet time admitting that they were wrong and they haven’t accepted Noor yet. I am sure it is something which will eventually happen and I have a feeling that it will happen when Mahi is either dying or dead! I would hate to see Mahi’s character dying in the end because that would most certainly not be a gratifying ending. The writer laid down the foundations of all the tracks flawlessly but the way these tracks are being handled now is not impressive at all. In Zain’s house everyone who hurt Mahgul in any way is paying the price but their remorse has no value at all since no one has apologized to Mahi or accepted Noor. It would have been better if Zain met Mahi tonight and apologized to her. Kashmala’s state of mind makes absolutely no sense since technically Zain and Kashmala have been married for more than 10 years (at least) now! In all these years they did not have a kid yet it had no effect on their marriage and now after so many years Kashmala feels Arshi will not accept her because she can never give Zain a child! The timeline in this drama is very confusing!

Khuda Mera Bhi Hai Episode 22 Review - Going Around In Circles

Khuda Mera Bhi Hai has a strong message but this message has been repeated so many times that it no longer has the kind of impact which it did before. In every episode Noor is shown facing and fighting with the same issues and every time he is equally disturbed. I think it is about time that Noor was shown as someone who had learned to deal with these issues in a more mature manner.

The preview of the next episode showed more of the same! All the tracks in the story have been dragged so much that right now I am looking forward to the last episode more than anything else! I must say that I am sorely disappointed in this drama because it has been stretched beyond limit.

Momal Sheikh Is Looking For A Negative Role!

Javed Sheikh has contributed a lot to the entertainment industry of Pakistan. Now, naturally following in his footsteps, his daughter, renowned television actress and model, Momal Sheikh has has also debuted across the border with Mudassar Asiz’ directorial, Happy Bhaag Jayegi. However, the actress received backlash sine the films was considered to be anti-Pakistan.

A post shared by Momal Sheikh (@momal15) on

Had it not been for the bridge between India and Pakistan, Momal would probably have been working steadily in Bollywood now. However, what was she doing these days? Something Haute caught up with the actress at the launch of FTA-Lakhany lawn and asked her what she feels about the current situation. Though Momal was careful with her words and future plans regarding Bollywood, as many celebrities have understandably been.

“It’s just very unfortunate,” she said, “because for whatever reason our art is being effected. But we have to stay quiet and see what happens next because we don’t know what’s really happening on the inside.”

A post shared by Momal Sheikh (@momal15) on

Momal confirmed she had been on a break from big projects, but is ready to come back to the screen provided she gets an interesting script and a challenging project.

For now, Momal is busy in the production of her father’s upcoming directorial venture, Wajood, which is set to release this Eid-ul-Azha. Momal claimed that the film is going to be “an intense love story.”

“It is very different because I don’t think such a love story has come out since the revival of Pakistani cinema,” she said. “It’s something new, very filmy and it has all the elements a film should have.”

A post shared by Momal Sheikh (@momal15) on

When asked as to why she isn’t using the big screen for a film appearance?

“I can’t act with dad! Not at all! I can’t take his instructions as a director,” the actress exclaimed with a hearty laugh.

Momal also told shared how, she is eager to do a negative role, instead of the same old characters she has been doing since ages, but is yet to be offered one. Is Momal Sheikh as a villain what you’ll be seeing next on your TV screens?

“The Roles I Do Are Risky & Not Many Actors Can Do Them,” Shares Gohar Rasheed

From theatre, to dramas, to films, Gohar Rasheed has found his place in the industry and is undoubtedly one of the most popular actors too. He has been nominated for IPPA Awards, in the category of Best Supporting actor (viewers choice).

A post shared by GOHAR RASHEED (@goharrasheed) on

Images got in touch with Gohar and he gave the low down on his four upcoming productions:

Maidaan
Based on a true story of a Pakistani man who coached a team of 12 street children for the ‘Street Child World Cup’ in Brazil three years ago, Maidaan is one film Gohar has full faith in.

“Since day 1, when I heard the story, I believed in it,” said the actor. He was so inspired by the story that he went up to several film producers in hopes of finding a few takers. Unfortunately, “none of them were willing to produce it.”

“So I put my foot down and said I’ll produce it myself. I have complete faith in the story and the idea because it is about Pakistan and it lifts up the image of our country,” he explained.

A post shared by GOHAR RASHEED (@goharrasheed) on

His choice to play the role of the coach is Nauman Ijaz, when asked why, Gohar replied: “Who else could be a better choice? Nauman Ijaz is a versatile actor, he has a presence, he has his novelty for cinema, and after Ramchand Pakistani he will be doing this film. He is devoted, dedicated and willing to give me ample time to transform him into his character and to work on it.”

Maidaan is currently in the pre-production phase and is slated to go on floors early summer.

Mujhay Jeene Do

Following in the footsteps of Udaari, Khuda Mera Bhi Hai and Sammi, Gohar Rasheed’s Urdu1 drama is centered around the topic of child marriages.

“My character [Naseeb] is the guy who happens to get married to a child,” said Gohar.

He added that the drama unveils “how his character gets into the guilt [of marrying a child] and the repercussions he faces. It’a s journey and story which talks about the society, the unspoken truth about the society.”

A post shared by GOHAR RASHEED (@goharrasheed) on

“It’s a very horrific kind of a reality that we will be talking about. My character faces remorse and what happens in a child marriage, the human needs in a marriage. The discomfort, the birth… our society’s jahalat, the ugly truth about our society.”

A project of John Hopkins University, Mujhay Jeene Do is currently in the production phase and is being shot in the rural areas of Punjab.

Rangreza

A far cry from his usual roles of the antagonist, Gohar’s romantic drama Rangreza features him in a new avatar.

“My next role is going to be the most exciting one yet,” said the actor of playing Waseem in the film. “He [Waseem] is someone I think people haven’t seen me like [on-screen] yet. It’s going to be new for the people.”

Speaking about the film he said, “It’s a commercial film, a complete family entertainment project. Some really exciting and good performances from all the actors and good writing, it’s a good mix and good team, we are trying our level best to give our best product to the audience so that they are entertained and it’s [the film] paisa wasool.”

A post shared by GOHAR RASHEED (@goharrasheed) on

The film is based on music, which will explore the contrast between classical qawwali and modern pop music with a love story intertwined. The film also stars Urwa Hocane and Bilal Ashraf in lead roles.

Yalghaar
When asked will Yalghaar really release in 2017?

“Now finally the film is about to release this Eid ul Fitr,” confirmed the actor.

When asked about the prolonged delay, Gohar said: “The only reason is the creative process. It’s an ensemble cast; justifying all the characters, marketing, making plans… considering Pakistani cinema doesn’t have a proper infrastructure, everything is trial and error.”

The film revolves around the lives of valiant soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of eradicating terrorism. It’s based on true events of the 48-hour Peochar operation conducted in 2008.

Being typecast in the industry isn’t something most actors wish for, surprisingly, it doesn’t feel like a career-threat to him.

“The roles I do are risky and unconventional, not many actors can do them.”
he said.

“Playing the antagonist is not easy, heroes are very simple, there’s not much to do [in those roles] as an actor — all the work the antagonist has to do. I’m comfortable taking risks so if any character is risky and demanding whether it’s [the role of an] antagonist or protagonist I don’t mind doing it.”

A post shared by GOHAR RASHEED (@goharrasheed) on

And it reflects on his script selection, because neither TV ratings or box office collections bother him, he trusts his intuition. “It comes from the gut. When my gut says it, I’ll go with it.”

“Mera koi criteria nahi hai (I don’t have a criteria) that it [the role] should be a certain way. I read about the character and if I feel I should do it it should be fun, then I take it up, regardless of the result.”

Ayesha Khan & Ahsan Khan Are Up to Something & We Can’t Wait

Ayesha Khan and Ahsan Khan are one such names that need no introduction. Even after working in the industry for several years, these two are still considered one of leading actors of today.

While considering their performances in the past, we’re more than happy to know that these two are collaborating for an upcoming project. There isn’t much we know about the project because the actors are in no mood to reveal anything for now, but this announcement has surely got us impatient because it’s going to be great seeing these two stars share screen space once again.

World Sufi music festival will have no Pakistani representation this year

0

World Sufi Music festival Jahan e Khusrau is being held in Delhi next week but this year, there won’t be any representation from Pakistan.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, filmmaker Muzzaffar Ali, who curates the festival, said:

“I wanted to invite artists from across the border but I thought I may not be able to… If somebody embarrasses them then it’s not nice. I don’t have any opinions on that [ban of Pakistani artists in India] but certainly we can’t embarrass those people.”

He also feels that Sufism is a common thread between India and Pakistan.
The festival has previously hosted many Pakistani artists, including Abida Parveen and Shafqat Amanat Ali. But for now, Mazaffar Ali has artists from India on board, which include Daler Mehndi and Sukhwinder Singh.

“It’s nice to have people from across the sub-continent — that’s the message of oneness that should go — but under the present circumstances, this is the best,” says Ali.

Thar and Parkar festival starts off among tight security

0

The four day “Thar and Parkar Festival” in Mithi has started among tight security which features several cultural and sports events such as camel and horse races, musical concert and exhibition of local handmade handicrafts and embroidery.

Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Sardar Shah said that such events would greatly help in driving away the ‘ghosts of communal disharmony’ from the area.

Mr Shah said that followers of Sufis would foil nefarious designs of extremists and terrorists, who had struck at the heart of Sindh by unleashing violence at the Qalandar’s shrine, through dancing and singing and urged the general public, members of civil society and media persons to highlight positive aspects of the region to help encourage tourism in the area.

He said the Sindh government had organised the mega event to highlight culture, customs, traditions, hospitality, heritage and other beautiful features of the desert, which still had much to offer despite devastating droughts. It could rightly be called an open museum of nature, he said.

Thar had produced many artists and singers like the legendary Mai Bhagi, Ustad Sadiq Faqeer, Murad Faqeer and Mohen Bhagat who taught communal harmony and peace throughout the world, he said. He said the Sindh government was committed to serving singers and artists who were assets of the province.

MPA Dost Mohammad Rahimoon said the festival would provide a forum to people to showcase their rich culture and traditions for the entire world to see. The credit went to PPP leadership and Sindh government for improving the standard of people’s lived in the arid zone, he said.

Local singers Pancho Pakistani, Nizakat Sadiq Faqeer, Rajab Faqeer, Arif Faqeer, Nehal Nimano and others entertained the audience while prominent poets from Thar and other areas of Sindh including Saindad Sand, Piyaro Shivani, Khalil Kumbhar, Partab Shivani, Bharumal Amrani, Shahab Nohrio, Dileep Doshi Lohano, Bilawal Otho, Haji Sand and others read out their poetry at the festival. Mr Shah later inaugurated the Folk Music Academy established by known local singer Karim Faqeer.

Titli Episode 9 Review – Thoroughly Entertaining

0

Yes! This drama is clichéd to the core since it covers nothing but gherulu politics yet it continues to hold my interest. The fact that Naila is so full of flaws and everyone else around her has been extremely compromising till now is funny and interesting at the same time. Even with her twisted and controlling personality, Naila is undeniably the best thing about this play. Kiran’s character is turning out to be an interesting addition to the play as well. She balances the over-niceness of rest of the family members and Amir’s reaction tonight was the perfect development in the story. It was about time that someone confronted Naila and unlike the last time, this time around Naila’s egoistic nature did not allow her to stay in Ahmed’s house after everything that happened. Ahmed’s reaction however came out of nowhere and I must say that while this drama shows how a wife and daughter-in-law who is not willing to compromise cannot have a healthy relationship with her husband or her in laws, it also shows how important it is for the husbands to keep a balance. Had Ahmed not compromised this much Naila would have known better.

I must say that Naila’s character is perfectly etched-out, she knows how to get her way just because she is stubborn and spoiled! The writer should have focused more on Ahmed’s character and what was going through his mind when Naila was misbehaving with his parents in tonight’s episode before he finally lost his cool completely. Ahmed has been shown as someone who was completely smitten right from the day he laid his eyes on Naila and while it is easy to understand why he could not allow his wife to treat his parents badly but even then it is impossible to imagine someone like him putting his foot down like this. I am waiting to see how his track is handled from here on.

Titli Episode 9 Review - Thoroughly Entertaining

This drama reminds me of the old PTV drama Aanch in which Shagufta Ijaz played the role of a woman who felt like she deserved better when she was married to Shafi Muhammad’s character because he was much older than her and was a widower. The only difference is that the circumstances are different and also that Ahmed’s character so far isn’t as impactful as Shafi Muhammad’s character in that play. Otherwise, I hope that this drama also shows Naila regretting her decision and finally understanding that sometimes compromising is far more important than having your own way. Right now, I am waiting to see how this recent development brings about a gradual change in Naila’s personality.

Hania Amir yet again was the star of the show tonight. I absolutely love the fact that she pays very little attention to her outfits and make-up and her main focus is her performance although this character could have been very glamorous but she has kept glamour to the minimum. She owns her character right from the start and I am pretty sure she will deliver even when Naila’s character changes in the future. The fast pace of the drama is another reason why it keeps you looking forward to more. Titli continues to be an entertaining play and the ultimate guilty pleasure even after all these weeks.

Indian actress Kalki talks about Pakistan

0

Kalki Kocehlin, Bollywood actress who has recently worked on Azmaish, a documentary by Sabiha Sumar made her see a more human aspect of Pakistan.

While speaking at the India Today Conclave 2017 on Friday, Kalki talked about how the documentary shows India and Pakistan outside the context of conflict, and instead focuses on the struggles of commoners in both countries.

When she was asked as to what drew her to the project, she said,

“I think it was my neutrality on the subject; I didn’t have a particularly strong standpoint on the whole India-Pakistan issue.”

She continued, “From my point of view, I accepted the project out of curiosity. I had never been to Pakistan and I only knew India and Pakistan in terms of conflicts. I wanted to see another aspect, perhaps, a more human aspect.”

Talking about her experience while visiting Pakistan, she said:

“Once you remove ideologies, you start seeing the people and their struggles. Pakistanis are as terrified of terrorism as anyone else in the world.”

Kalki confessed that she also saw India through a new set of eyes while travelling with Sabiha

“In places like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, I could draw so many similarities between the rural parts of Pakistan in terms of the conservative way to look at women who are voiceless. I also saw how power and religion work closely with each other,” she said.

When asked if anything about Pakistan surprised her, she said:

“A lot of things surprised me. One thing that I loved was their curiosity because there’s very little outside influence in Pakistan vis-a-vis India. The openness with which they met me was very surprising.”

Elaborating with an example, Kalki narrated:

“In the documentary, we had set up a fashion show. Hundreds of men had come to watch the show. We asked these men what they thought about their Pakistani women being models. They said they were happy to see them. When we asked how they would like it if their wives were doing this, they said their leaders will slit their throats. It was said in a tone which meant that things were not going to change.”

  • At the session, some portion of the documentary was screened.

PEMRA Serves Notice To TVOne For ‘Objectionable’ Dance In Sahir Lodhi’s Show

A day after Geo was served a show cause notice for airing an inappropriate scene, regulator watchdog PEMRA on Thursday issued one to TVOne for violation of PEMRA Ordinance 2002.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has taken action against Sahir Lodhi’s morning show which airs on TV One. PEMRA has issued a show cause notice to TVOne for Sahir’s ‘objectionable’ dance with a girl in the morning show.

The dance went on air in the program Aap Ka Sahir, featuring the host Sahir Lodhi and a girl, whose name PEMRA did not mention. The regulator said the host was doing such acts on a regular basis and a number of complaints have been received against him.

The notice states, that TV One was in violation of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 which states that private channels have to maintain ethical standards. The scenes aired were a violation of its rules and regulations and the code of conduct for electronic media.

TV One has been given the deadline of March 29, 2017 to reply PEMRA with an answer as to why the license holder violated its terms. The channel might have to adhere to one of the following penalties:

1) According to Section 27, shut down the program “Aap ka Sahir”
2) In accordance with Section 29, pay a fine of Rs. 1 million
3) In accordance with Section 30, cancel TV One’s license

The channel also has to answer whether Sahir Lodhi wants to explain the situation himself.

On the other hand, Geo was handed a similar notice for its program Geo Pakistan where an inappropriate scene featuring a girl and a boy was aired live. Geo also has to answer by 29th March 2017 or it will be subjugated to either Rs. 1 million in fine or the cancellation of its license.

“I didn’t do Balu Mahi To Portray Myself As An Eye-Candy,” Shares Sadaf Kanwal

The news of Sadaf Kanwal doing a film had surely created quite a stir in the entertainment fraternity. Known for having chiseled and sharp features, she is the definition of what you may call a supermodel. While her performance in Balu Mahi received a lot of praise, many thought her character was controversial as well.

A post shared by Sadaf Kanwal (@sadafkanwal) on

She was even referred as an eye candy while Ainy and Osman did all the hard work. But the model is not worried about the criticism, claiming that everyone is entitled to their opinion. “I did not take up this film to portray myself as just another piece of eye-candy,” she told The Express Tribune. “It was the spiciness and wit behind Sharmeen’s character that I gravitated towards. It gave me room to be creative with my acting and expressions. Hence, my role was loved by all in the end.”

Nonetheless, there is always the assumption that models are cast in acting roles primarily because they are easy on the eyes. Sadaf believes that was not the case for her in Balu Mahi. “No, it’s not about the looks, all the time,” she stated. Yes, it would give you a good space on the screen but there would be no longevity in one’s acting career then.”

A post shared by Sadaf Kanwal (@sadafkanwal) on

The debutant actor says she has grown up with actors and it’s the art behind the craft that makes her want to pursue acting. “It’s not that ‘Oh, I’m so pretty, I’ll look so good in this character.’ That won’t get me anywhere. And again, opting for Balu Mahi was solely because I wanted to experience that bubbliness of Sharmeen on screen and explore the acting arena,” Sadaf said.

The budding starlet is glad her performance has garnered positive reviews. “The fact the character was a bit out of the box and yet, gathered such an amazing response really surprised and motivated me.”

About her transition from modeling to acting, Sadaf said, “It was difficult at first but not entirely. I have grown up watching movies and idolising actors so I would say it was more exciting than difficult for me.”

A post shared by Sadaf Kanwal (@sadafkanwal) on

Nonetheless, Sadaf admitted she was not that comfortable at first. “I swear, if you had asked me this before Balu Mahi, I would have said, ‘Getting there, day by day.’ But, after so much guidance and support from everyone. I feel very comfortable now.

However, Sadaf hasn’t switched sides completely. “I want to remain focused in both acting and modelling. The latter is more like my forte; I love doing it and I’m proud to say I’m good at it. However, I do want to be remembered as an actor in the long run.”

Ajoka leaves for Amritsar to perform at Partition-themed theatre fest

0

A 20-member Ajoka Theatre Pakistan consisting of artists and technicians have left for India through the Wagah border on Wednesday to participate in a festival in India, according to a press release.

The six-day festival is a collaboration with an Amritsar-based theatre group, Manch Rang Manch. During the festival, a total of six plays will be performed at two venues — Virsa Vihaar cultural centre and Amritsar Art Gallery.

The theme of the festival is “Revisiting Partition” in view of the upcoming 70th anniversary of the Partition and independence.

Ajoka team will perform three plays — Mera Rang De Basanti Chola, Kaun Hai Yeh Gustakh and Anhi Maai Da Sufna. All of the plays are based on real life stories and reflect the anguish, pain and suffering of the era of Partition.

Famous theatre personalities from India and Pakistan will speak at the seminar.

Before leaving for Amritsar, Ajoka’s Executive Director Shahid Nadeem said:

“Holding of an Indo-Pak theatre festival has acquired more significance in view of the ongoing tensions at the border and antagonism between the two governments. This is a declaration that artists reject politics of confrontation and hate and are determined to promote peace between the people of India and Pakistan.”

The festival will follow Ajoka’s tour of Indian Punjab where the group will stage its play Anhi Mai Da Sufna (The blind old woman’s dream), which is about the generations separated by the 1947 Partition. The play will be performed in Jalandhar, Patiala, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

Religious clerics advice Veena Malik to save marriage

0

It seems like that religious clerics have stepped in to save Veena Malik’s marriage.

Mufti Naeem, a religious scholar, gave Veena and her husband, Asad Khattak three months to reconsider their divorce plans. After three years of marriage, Veena had reportedly filed for divorce. The couple has two children.

After a meeting with the couple at his seminary, Jamia Banoria, Karachi, the religious figure held Khattak responsible for “wrongdoing” but said the couple was given three months to reconsider their decision to split.

Asad Khattak has confessed his crime of torturing Veena, spending her bank balance and even selling property,” Mufti Naeem told The Express Tribune.

“The court decree about the divorce is non-maintainable. Veena filed the case in a family court, Lahore and the decision came in her favour without hearing Asad, who was abroad. Hence, as per Islamic teaching, it is not divorce, but a one-sided decision.”

“Since her husband has realised his mistakes, we attempted for their reconciliation because the children will ultimately suffer,” he said. “We have decided… Asad will pay Veena Rs0.3 million every month such that she can look after the children.”

The couple, the religious scholar said, will live separately for at least three months till Veena comes up with new conditions. “If her husband agrees to those conditions, the matter will again be referred to court,” he added.

Nazr e Bad Episode 15 & 16 Review – Convincing Developments!

Ohkay so, these two episodes of Nazr e Bad were quite interesting. It is commendable that they have so many aspects to cover in the drama that at this stage, the way they are revealing one thing after another is keeping the interest alive in the show. What I like the most about Nazr e Bad is how they have linked everything together, like one thing leads to another & everything falls in its right place. Nothing has been overdone so far & the pace of the show is great too.

So, once again Maham & Aftab’s relation was put through a test because Parvez directed all his evil energies towards them. Aftab realized his mistakes & promised to stand by Maham no matter what & for certain period of time, he proved that he was a man of his words but then, he was able to do that because at that point Parvez was busy focusing on other things, or shall I say that he was distracted, that is why Aftab & Maham got some days off from their problems, but sadly, everything was short-lived because once again Parvez decided to punish them for being together & he succeeded.

Abeera & Ahmer got a lot of coverage in these episodes. Abeera eloped with Ahmer & she took all the money that Parvez handed over to Almas. I am not feeling this entire Abeera Ahmer track but then again, it adds some sort of drama to the drama so it seems justified. To be honest, I find Abeera’s authoritativeness a bit too annoying. Well, the entire scene where Parvez spoke about how deprived he was all his life without money stirred zero sympathy for him but then it gave us an insight into his twisted psychology, personality & all those inferiority complexes that he has harbored over these years. All the things that Parvez said also shed a light on Almas’s upbringing because every single feeling that Parvez was giving words to seemed like a reflection of what Almas has felt & spoken about all her life. Almas was the one who always compared herself & her financial situation with Nusrat, therefore it was imperative for Parvez to absorb all of that & that is exactly why he has turned out to be a carbon copy of his mother because these are all the things that he saw his mother indulging into all his life. It is unfortunate that Parvez has an upper hand at this moment because I can’t wait to see how he & Almas will pay for their wrongdoings!

Salma puts me off big time, not the actress but the character but then again, it is because she is a perfect example of how most of the insecure mother in laws are who always play a double game where they’d taunt & torture their daughters in law but would change the entire scenario when confronted by their sons. Even though I find Aftab’s attitude quite annoying where he sides with his mother & holds Maham responsible for everything but then again, even he is not solely responsible for the way he reacts because he himself is under the influence of Parvez’s blackmagic.

I don’t think Nusrat made the right choice by choosing to stay with Almas, the woman she has hated her entire life & the woman she holds responsible for what she is going through right now. I really hope they don’t drag this scenario where Parvez & Almas will mistreat Nusrat & torture her even more. Even if Nusrat had to leave her brother’s place, she could have spoken to her eldest son Baber because he would’ve arranged everything for her as Shafeeq was also ready to take her responsibility knowing that he wronged her.

Parvez surely has earned himself a loyal client in the form of Aneesa Yazdani because he gave her what she wanted. I think this is another dark secret of the society that the team of Nazr e Bad has tried to unveil that in order to remain on the top, well-established businessmen/women also get involved in these filthy antics & use them as shortcuts. I think at this point, they should also show that some men also contacted Parvez to seek help through his expertise because yes, it is a fact that most of the times women get involved in these things but then again, there are quite a lot of men too who choose this path to achieve what they want.

I really hope that Parvez’s friend who gave her father’s office to him can at least try to help Maham or Nusrat by telling that everything that they are facing right now is because of Parvez because she knows what he is capable of & she also knows that he is after Maham right from the beginning. I so wanted Shahista to tell Nusrat about Parvez but now that she’s out of the picture, the only hope I have is with this girl who can tell on Parvez & get him exposed. Another crucial development this week was Almas’s developing interest in the black magic where she asked Parvez to teach her everything he knows, I can’t even begin to imagine how much destruction Almas will bring when she will form ties with Parvez & they both will become a team!

Overall, these two episodes were interesting & all the developments were convincing. I really wish they maintain the pace that they have kept so far because with Nusrat going to Parvez’s place, I am dreading that things might become a little slow & they might take a lot of time in reaching to the point where Nusrat will find out about Almas & Parvez’s ugly reality & her worst fears will be confirmed. I really wish someone had told Azfar Rehman that he was acting for a Television drama & not a Stage drama/theater because the way he speaks doesn’t seem realistic. Sarah Khan & Ali Abbas have done a great job too & Sakina Samo is so so so convincing as bitter, complexed, complicated & twisted Almas. I can’t wait for the next set of episodes already. Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Nazr e Bad!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Comedian Syed Shafaat Ali will make his film debut with Parwaaz Hai Junoon

0

Shafaat Ali is a Pakistani comedian whose funny mimicking videos went viral on facebook and later all over the internet. He has been performing at corporate events and was also seen at the Karachi Literature festival.

Good news for all his fans because Ali is now making his movie debut in the upcoming Momina Duraid Production, Parwaaz Hai Junoon starring Hamza Ali Abbasi, Hania Aamir and Asif Raza Mir’s son and Ahad Raza Mir.

“I was initially approached to audition for a drama serial; however, the team at HUM found me to be quite fit for the character in the film and that’s when they told me that they had another project in mind for me,” he told Images over a telephonic conversation from the set of his film’s second spell at K2 and the Karakoram Highway.

Comedian Syed Shafaat Ali will make his film debut with Parwaaz Hai Junoon

“I have been offered films previously as well, but I never took them seriously since I never wanted to do a project that fails to leave an impact. Since Parwaaz Hai Junoon is being made in association with the Pakistani Air Force — who last made a film almost five decades ago — I knew I had to do this.”

While talking about his experience on set, he said:

“The entire cast and I have developed a great bond and everybody’s been extremely helpful to each other,” he revealed. “I’ve never been on a set which involves so much cardio and exercise and since all of us are actually living our characters, even off-screen, there’s been a major transformation for me. I’m really stretching my limits and I would really call it an adventurous project.”

On a concluding note, he revealed big plans for his comedy career:

“I want to take my comedy global, that’s what I’m focusing on currently since I’m touring different countries for shows. There hasn’t been an internationally acclaimed and viable comedian from Pakistan in recent times and I wish to break the ice.”

A post shared by Mehwish Hayat (@mehwishhayatofficial) on

Something Haute got in touch with the lady and here’s the conversation.

There’s money as well as ratings in playing the damsel in distress or weeping willow. How have you resisted that road?

“It’s a conscious effort,” she replied. “I’ve done the damsel in distress enough times. I’ve done the tragic roles. Now I want to explore myself as an actress. I want to take on roles that empower women, strong characters. People need to know that these kinds of women also exist. They’re not evil because they have an opinion. They’re just strong women.”

The four recent and popular characters you’ve played – from Billi to Anmol, Marina and Meena Screwala – have all been exceptionally strong women. Will your character in PNJ be the same?

“Yes, I play a very confident girl in PNJ. She knows what she wants. She is fun-loving and very confident and yet she is family oriented even though she has studied abroad. She believes in family and the outside world has not effected her morals and values. She’s confident and understanding and compromising. There is magic in playing this kind of character.

I think I’m very motivated by my mother, who is such a strong woman; I am the way I am because of her. So this is who I am. She always spoke for her rights.”

Do you think people have people accepted you as this headstrong, badass girl?

“Yes, definitely. If you do anything with passion it becomes believable. I think they have. People forget the stories but they remember the characters. People remember the characters I played.”

Do you think women should accept roles that portray the female stereotype in society or should they challenge their characters?

“Most writers are happy to brainstorm. We all brainstorm and connect on a certain level. Once the director knows that you’re an intelligent person they will trust you. Nadeem discusses things and so did Feeza and Nabeel. It would be unfair to expect them to change the character but modification, yes. But actors must choose their roles carefully. I would want to do a project which gives me an equal opportunity. The girl should have equal screen time. So a director may not change the character but then I have the option to chose the right project that is good for me and that I believe in. You should do what you believe in.”

Is there any character that you wish you had done in a drama or film?

“I would have loved to do Salt, a Devil Wears Prada or Queen.”

Do you relate to Kangana Ranaut?

“She’s phenomenal. There’s no one like her and I would love to be known as someone as exceptionally good as her as well as being strong. She’s a fighter and a winner.”
