Izteraab – Episode 11!

0

So this episode was based on what’s Zara’s going through & what’s she feeling. I think Dua’s character has definitely taken a nice turn & she is making some sense right now. I think the treatment Dua’s character has gotten is worth an appreciation because finally, they showed a supposed dumb & shallow girl taking right decisions & even standing up for her rights but politely by literally not rubbing her position into other’s faces. All points to Dua!

Obviously, Jazib was oblivious of what he should’ve done but just because Dua showed him the right direction, he understood that Zara needs to feel welcomed because she is not well. The last thing I want to see was Jazib rekindling his feelings for Zara because he is seeing her with an eye of sympathy. If he feels so much & now thinks he can be vocal about his thoughts, then he must take care of Dua’s feelings because she allowed Zara to come to their home for Jazib’s sake. Dua is tolerating all the criticism & those glances just because she loves Jazib & wants to see him happy & unburdened. She has never taken advantage of him & has never once exploited his love to earn something but sadly Zara is unable to see that.

I think to show her suffering was enough instead of letting the kids know about it as well where they took the name of that disease like 10 times & succeeding in making me cringe. I think this drama has exposed the kids to a lot of things like first a broken marriage then the concept of polygamy & now the reaction to a certain disease. The drama makers need to understand that whenever they hire a child artist, they are catering to the young & immature viewers too because they can relate to their age-fellows seen on the TV, so they need to rethink what sort of material they want the kids to be exposed to.

Zara dreads seeing her kids getting derailed because of Dua’s negligence but I think Zara needs to understand that Dua might not have played such a major role in spoiling them as much as Zara’s decision of moving out from their home did. The kids are shattered so they’re resorting to things they deem fit because their mother’s away & father’s too busy in his work & business trips. Also, Dua gets a leeway as she can’t be too stern with the kids to earn herself a label of being a bad step mother. She tries to deal with them with as much affection & care as she can extend but just because Zara’s kids give Dua a hard-time, Zara should first teach them some manners & then in return expect Dua to fulfill her duty properly.

I liked the ending scene where Dua managed to make a subtle point of her notifying her presence in Jazib’s life. Even though she doesn’t say much but she knows when’s the right time to react which makes her character a lot more likable & real as this is her right too. She moved into this mess just because she loved Jazib & not only him but the baggage that came with him as well, so for that she had every right to protect herself & stand up for herself.

I am kind of concerned about the seriousness of Zara’s disease because her shiny curled locks & rosy pink lips aren’t giving away much about her illness & to add more to it her energy with which she shuns Dua away is making things seem a bit unrealistic. Let’s see what happens next.

Blast From The Past! :)

0

Ohkay, before saying ANYTHING, I’d like to excuse for making this post so lengthy because I didn’t want to miss out most of the things. Just like TV & its content has been a part of our lives; the advertisements hold a level of significance too. I just sighted the mood to take a walk down the memory lane & tried watching all those good ol’, simple, to-the-point & perfect advertisements with those catchy tunes & unforgettable jingles. I thought it would be great to kill the nostalgia & refresh our memories related to these amazing amazing advertisements from the past. So, there you go:

Naz Pan Masala:

I mean seriously, who doesn’t remember the tag line ‘Meri Muthi Mai Bandh Hai Kya, Bata Do Na, Ting Ting’. I had such a good time watching this ad in particular & loved how chic Arfa Siddique looked in it.

01 Naz Pan Masala

State Life Insurance:

‘Aye Khuda Mere Abbu Salamat Rahain’ was sort of a children’s anthem back in those days when this advertisement frequented our TV screens. It’s such a nice jingle, isn’t it?

02 State Life

Diamond Supreme Foam:

‘Kaam Kaam Kaam’ has to be another one of those jingles that clicked to everyone.

03 Diamond

Pepsi:

‘Zinda Dilon Ki Pehchaan, Pepsi Pepsi Pakistan’. I mean Pepsi, Vital Signs & on top of it the then sensation Dil Dil Pakistan all rolled into one. I still remember what a massive hit this jingle was.

04 Pepsi

Dentonic:

Another one of those ads which was a part of our TV routine. It had a cartoonish version too which was a treat to watch for the kids especially.

05 Dentonic

Waves:

‘Naam Hi Kafi Hai’ & ‘Waves Ka Triplet Wah Bhai Wah’ were two ads by the company that add more to the memories & on a side note I think this must be Noor’s first ever ad & can’t deny how gorgeous she looks.

06 Waves 1

06 Waves 2

Phillips Bulb:

Starring Huma Nawab & Ayaz Khan ‘Phillips Ka Tara Chamak Raha Hai, Naam Se Har Ek Maang Raha Hai’ ad & the jingle was a treat to watch after so many years.

07 Phillips Bulb

Ding Dong:

I know the Hilal Company have literally spoiled the Moti Billi’s reputation by those never-ending & painfully long recent jingles but when it was introduced, it did strike a chord & I know it might be annoying for the elders but being a 8 y/o I loved the ad back then.

08 Ding Dong

Peak Freans:

The bag piper & the flute tune brought back some great memories & I believe it was just the right way of selling the biscuits.

09 Peak Freans

Bonanza:

‘Fashion Ki Dunya Mai Chaya, Sabhi Ke Dilon Mai Samaya’ (lol) was just the right way of selling Bonanza suiting & the angrez model did some trick too.

10 Bonanza

Cherry Blossom:

Set at a theme of children’s story books, this ad was special in its own way & I’d make a point clear that this went on-air years before my birth year. ;)

11 Cherry Blossom

Don Carlos:

I must say the tune was mesmerizing & the picturization was artistic. I loved this ad the moment I watched it.

12 Don Carlos

Gillette Blue:

The ‘cha cha cha chainnnn’ ad & I was surprised to see (if not mistaken) Surmed Sultan Khoosat being the face of this brand.

13 Gillette Blue

Gogo Pan Masala:

‘Naya Zamana Aya, Apne Saath Gogo Laya’, enough said. :)

14 Gogo Pan Masala

Naurus:

‘Bhool Na Jana Phir Papa’ was the jingle of this ad & also included a whole story of how much this little cutie loves it. It was a perfect ad.

15 Naurus

Morven Gold:

This ad made me fall in love with Arizona & those mountain peaks. It had more adventurous touch to it depicting the nature of those who smoke. The execution of the ad was great.

16 Morven Gold

Jaam e Shireen:

No specific jingle rings a bell but their marketing techniques are worth an appreciation.

17 Jam-e-Shireen

Kala Kola:

Picturized in the remote area of Mount Kailash, this ad completed its purpose by adding ‘Kalay Kalay Baal Mere, Ye Gori Gori Rangat Meri’. That’s like killing two birds with one stone even though Kala Kola does nothing for one’s complexion. :)

18 Kala Kola

Brook Bond:

We have later seen a lot of versions of this brand but thought of sharing an oldie but a goodie which featured Imran Khan. He looks so cool!

19 Brook Bond

Health Hazard:

Who doesn’t remember Wasim Akram’s ‘Nahi Jee, Mai Cigarette Nahi Peeta’. I was surprised to see Adeel Hashmi playing the role of an awestruck spectator & Wasim’s fan. Thought it would add more to the memories.

21 Cigarette

So, this was the list. I remembered so many advertisements but couldn’t find any video or picture related to them. The one I wanted to share the most was memorable ‘Shahi Supari’s ad which had a jingle saying ‘Achi Si Ek Gari Ho, Larki Us Mai Pyari Ho…’. BP Spacer, Tuc by Lu, Lipton Hi To Hai La Jawab, Bio Amla; Kyunki Ye Hai Baalon Ka Mamla, Jahan Dalda Wahan Mamta, Tullo, Dawlence, Mattress ad of Meri Nanhi Pari Naye Ghar Ko Chali & also the hilarious ad of Gaye Soap which would flash on TV screens saying ‘Gaye Soap Bananay Walon Ki Janib Se Tamam Ahl-e-Watan Ko Eid Mubarik’ were some of those advertisements that are a part of my memory.

Share what you felt about the article, these advertisements, your memories, & also feel free to add more to the list. :)

Aisam ul Haq addresses British House of Commons

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has been invited by British House of Commons (Lower House of Parliament) for a speech. Here is the report of English Daily The News regarding this event.

Pakistan tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi on Tuesday made an emotional speech for peace and harmony at the British Parliament in London.

The subject of Aisam’s speech was global peace and the initiatives undertaken by him through his non-profit Stop War Start Tennis Foundation. The event was hosted by John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons. Bercow has long been an admirer of Aisam’s tennis and his efforts to use sport as a vehicle to promote peace and harmony.

Bercow, in his address during the event, lauded Aisam’s efforts for peace and the image he portrays. “He [Aisam] is an outstanding ambassador and role model for young people and for sporting competitors everywhere… His grace, modesty and eloquence are immediately obvious to anyone who meets him”, said the Speaker. The event was hosted at the Parliament building’s Speaker’s Rooms. In attendance were MP’s of the British government, notable UK-based Pakistanis, Aisam’s fellow tennis players and patrons from the International Tennis Federation and Association of Tennis Players.

For several years now, Aisam has been offering his services to charitable causes.

Delivering the main address at this event, Aisam recalled his own experiences in travelling to flood affected and war-torn areas on his charitable missions.

“I have visited cancer hospitals and talked with parents who had tears in their eyes as their sick children are hooked up to tubes and monitors and most certainly going to die. I have travelled to remote regions where village elders praise Allah when you arrive in a cargo helicopter with fresh water and the promise of shelter.

“I am at a loss to understand why bad things have to happen to good people.

“I don’t know why that bomb had to fall on young Zainab Khadim Alwan’s house killing members of her family and blowing both her legs off. I don’t know why Upali Rajakaruna, a soldier in the Sri Lanka army, had his left leg shredded off when he was hit by shrapnel from mortar, or how Yi Sarun survived the atrocities of the Killing Fields in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge genocide. Those are horrors that I cannot even begin to imagine.”

Since creating the Stop War Start Tennis Foundation, Aisam has taken on a project to deliver sport-specific equipment to areas affected by war. So far, he has delivered tennis racquets and tennis wheelchairs to amputees in Cambodia and in Myanmar, and stated plans to do the same in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Speaking about the impact of the efforts made by Stop War Start Tennis, Aisam said, “One thing that I do know is that tennis has helped… them and others around the world like them to heal, to regain their pride and dignity”.

Aisam stressed the need for greater efforts to help those in need, and highlighted the many ways in which sport can act as an agent of change for the betterment of a multitude of people across the globe.

In an impassioned address, Aisam gave an analogy on the concept of overcoming discrimination and separation of cultures and national identities, “bridges and walls are made from the same material – concrete and bricks. Which of the two will we choose to build with is up to us? I, Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi, choose to build bridges. Brick by Brick. I would ask that you join me, so we can build a better world together”.

Drama Of The Week- Neeyat

0

n1

Oh, Dear! Clearly, all that glitters is not gold! I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I decided to take up Neeyat (intentions) for the Drama Of The Week segment but believe me when I say this, meri neeyat bilkul saaf thi.

Background

Neeyat aired on ARY Digital in 2011 shortly before the unforgettable Humsafar started. It was directed by Mehreen Jabbar, written by Larry Pontius and produced by Samina Humayoun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib. The story revolved around the lives of four main characters- Sikander/ Sikki (Humayoun Saeed), Aaila (Mahira Khan), Ismaeel (Ahsan Khan) and Marium (Deepti Gupta).

Marriage- a quick-fix or a trap?

Set in New York, Neeyat is the story of a Pakistani citizen Sikander, living and working on a temporary visa. He has been dating Aaila- a student at Columbia University pursuing her Masters Degree. Aaila belongs to a very strong political family back in Pakistan but maintains limited contact with them. Ismaeel happens to be a close friend of hers- a photographer by profession, he thinks he can win her over even though he is aware of her relationship with Sikander. Upset over finding out Sikander is made redundant and faced with the possibility of him moving back of Pakistan, she proposes he marries an American Citizen- a contract marriage that will allow him to remain in the country. Sikander retaliates explaining it may result in legal complications but Aaila is adamant and finally convinces him. It so happens that she runs into Mariam- an American Citizen of Pakistani origin who works as a part-time waitress and is a struggling actor barely making ends meet. The proposition of having a place to live and money in exchange for a contract marriage seems like a lottery win for Mariam and she immediately agrees to it. However, once the marriage takes place, Mariam starts wanting more- she becomes attuned to living a comfortable, stable life with a man she starts developing feelings for. Slowly but steadily, she manages to sow the seeds of discord between Aaila and Sikander and eventually succeeds is drawing them apart.

n6 n5

What better way to get over a break-up than a rebound?

Devastated by her break-up with Sikki, Aaila finds comfort with Ismaeel. The two of them continue growing closer until Ismaeel finally proposes. Aaila is initially hesitant but gives in thinking she must move on as Sikki has too. Sikander, trying his best to keep his sanity intact while balancing his life, runs into Aaila and is shocked to know that she is engaged. In a moment of unreconciled thoughts, he proposes to Mariam and asks her to be his wife- for real this time. Ecstatic at the thought of having her dreams turn into a reality she agrees. Aaila is confused after her meeting with Sikki and decides to pursue him but is once again shattered after finding out he has married Mariam. Ismaeel struggles for attention and it is later revealed that he was suffering from some sort of mental disorder and will require treatment.

n4 n3

Alls well that ends well- or is it?

Mariam, who is being blackmailed by her ex-fiance realizes that she can’t keep up trying to conceal her past from Sikki and makes him suspicious. Sikki feels trapped in his marriage and regrets his rash decision but sees no way out either. Aaila isolates him further because she is too broken to take a chance with him again. After a series of misunderstandings, Mariam finally realizes that she can never be truly happy until she stops lying to herself. She decides to leave Sikki and give him his life back and Aaila finally comes around and agrees to start afresh with Sikki looking forward to a better tomorrow.

Final Verdict

To be honest, I tuned in purely for Mehreen Jabbar- her dramas are usually a visual delight and leave a mark. Here, the visual aspect was spot-on but everything else didn’t quite fall into place. The production values were impressive and I was initially fooled into thinking Momina Duraid was behind this project. The story was something that had great potential to connect with a lot of overseas Pakistanis but somehow failed to strike a chord. Mahira was a newcomer and she stood out due to her innocence and charming face- unfortunately her acting left much to be desired. Humayoun looked way too old and sick(i) opposite Mahira and seemed bored for the most part. I liked Ahsan Khan in this role- even though he was the hopeless romantic, I liked his performance. Deepti Gupta did well for her part and her desperation seemed very real. The drama started off with plenty of zeal but soon afterward, everything fell apart. The story didn’t hold enough appeal and seemed to drag on endlessly. I can’t help but wonder how this would have turned out had they opted for different actors especially the lead pair. The soundtrack was worth a mention- it was sweet and melodious and thankfully not too loud. There’s only so much of Sajjaad Ali I can take! You can listen to it here:

Are We Being Too Judgmental!?!

0

judgements1

I know it’s an edgy debate but one way or the other that is something we all tend to involve ourselves into. No matter how much we try to ignore but we do get judgmental when it comes to our celebrities. Over these years, Pakistani audience have shown great acceptance towards the celebrities & media personnel but where some have accepted them wholeheartedly, there are some who have judged them harshly too.

I think it goes both ways. I have come across many articles stating that the celebrities are upset about people being judgmental & bringing them down. I know the celebrities have to come in contact with a lot of people where people treat them as a wall & trash them but, there are some of those people as well who appreciate their efforts. I then feel it relies on the celebrities themselves as to how they can prevent themselves from getting judged.

Not speaking on the Islamic grounds but on a general basis, I think the celebrities should give special consideration to the sentiments of their audience because where they have survived in the industry on the basis of their talent; their fans have played an important part in turning them into the stars too. I see the celebrities make such choices which may not be in accordance to our ‘culture’ but then they expect people to understand & hope that it doesn’t backlash; I think it’s a mistake on their part. Being the representative of the country even on the national television, I think the celebrities should take a pride in being responsible for depicting an image of the country they belong to. Sadly but truthfully, we have seen the influence of westernization in our industry which at times does get burdensome to watch. Our stars adapting to it & giving out a clear message of them being not worried about what their followers might think doesn’t help either. I know it’s a matter of one’s choices & the stars are free to decide for themselves but then I feel a little consideration goes a long way & earns them nothing but respect.

As far as we; the viewers are concerned. I think it’s important to understand that there’s a thin line between expectations & judgments. Fans do expect a lot from their favourite stars but then those expectations take a spur of a moment to turn into a judgment. I think we must understand that by the end of the day, celebrities are just normal people like us but just because they open themselves to the world, we shouldn’t allot this duty to ourselves to turn into moral police & start bashing them openly.

I myself have seen a few Facebook pages where people would stalk & like a celebrity page just to make a point of how much they hate them!?! I think if someone doesn’t like anyone, it’s better to ignore & let them do their work because their opinions & their derogatory comments would make no difference to them but it would rather expose their own mentality.

When we discuss the dramas, it’s always fun to see people restricting their comments to the characters & not directing them at the actors. I think this practice is an accurate example of how one’s not being judgemental because whatever one says, says it in regards to the dramas, the imaginary characters & that’s it. The internet bashing has taken an ugly face where people take pride in bringing down the celebrities & if the celebrities react to it, people get more agitated which results in a vicious never-ending cycle. I think if someone puts forth an opinion about any celebrity then they should be open to how the person in question responds to that.

Please take note that this is a very very general article written with a positive mind-set. This article is by no means an attempt to bring any celebrity or their follower down but is just based on a mere observation. Share what you feel about how we; the viewers are when it comes to judging the others & how it depends on the celebrities to pay utmost attention to the sentiments of their fans to prevent any judgements coming their way.

Anti Taliban Facebook Pages Blocked On Request Of The Government

0

According to the latest news there are many facebook pages that openly criticize Talibans. Few of such pages were blocked by the facebook administration on request of Pakistani government. Laal is a band which has always been very vocal about anything which they see wrong with Pakistani system or politics. Their facebook page has more than 400, 000 likes, it is a forum where people join together to debate about issues that are usually brushed under the carpet by many.

The band openly criticizes Talibans and there are very often talks about the double standards that exist in Pakistani politics and society. The progressive people in the country feel that Laal represents them. Along with Laal several other pages like “Taalibansarezalimans” (The Taliban are oppressors), Taliban are zaliman and “Pakistani.meem” which have been blocked in the past few days.

Many activists think that this is highly unjust and some people have termed it as the “mass murder of freedom of speech in Pakistan”. The authorities concerned are not taking any responsibility for their actions.

This was the status update of Taliban are zaliman’s when it was blocked in Pakistan

Untitled

After the news was made public, the pages were unblocked. According to the news there was a secret agreement between PTA and facebook.

Title track of Master Chef Pakistan

asterchef Pakistan is the first cooking reality show, currently under progress on channel Urdu1. The show is applauded for its production quality while also criticized for its editing. But on the whole it has been successful in attracting viewership and made its presence felt in a competitive television industry. The show is already covered comprehensively on this website.

Whole project team of MCP is quite active and professional, which is evident from the quality of this show. Title track or promo song also plays an important part in promotion of a show. Title track of MCP is quite short and is almost one minute in duration, but it fully reflects the spirit and enthusiasm of the show. Though many are already familiar with it, here it is posted again to acknowledge the efforts of participants and MCP team.It is sung by Alycia Dias

Ainnie Khalid’s new song and video

After a long break from music the ‘Mahiya’ fame Ainnie Khalid (also famous as princess ainnie) is back with a new video and song having an unusual name ‘tharki saala’. Like its name the video is also shot in a rough manner, while lyrics are exactly what one can expect from the title ‘tharki saala’. The video is directed by Sohail Javed.

Ainnie Khalid also paid gratitude to her fans, saying her success is due to the love and encouragement of these fans.

The music video has been posted on facebook page of Ainnie Khalid few days ago and is been shared many times already. Its too early to predict whether this new song can stir the music like ‘Maahiya’.

MasterChef Pakistan Week 06 – Elimination Round!

Elimination round was good & so was Chef Shai’s appearance in the show. She really lit up the kitchen with her presence & more importantly her positive attitude & the encouragement she extended to the contestants BUT, the best moment of this episode for me was when Saad said as far as Zubaida Apa ain’t the guest judge, he’ll be fine. LOL! I couldn’t stop laughing at that.

Once again we got to see some great dishes but I have an issue like they do tell generally as to how a contestant is chopping the veggies or how are they using the machines but I am kind of missing out on the ‘techniques’. I want to see what techniques they use & how do they plan the execution of the dish. I am missing the while-cooking conversations of the contestants where they talk us through to their thinking process & how are they planning to work on a dish, what problems are they facing & stuff like that. It seems that the contestants only speak when the judges question them but other than that I kind of miss knowing the techniques they are using in their dishes & the talk-throughs.

First challenge was to create a salad in 20 minutes which only Chef Shai would taste so that she could pick a winner. Those salads looked delicious & I am sure any salad-lover like me would’ve drooled over the sight of them. The list of the salads is as follows:

Bean Sprout Fish Salad – Maryam
Ceasar Salad w/ Prawns – Amna
Rocket Leaves Salad – Rayyan
Prawn Salad w/ Honey Glazed Veggies – Khurram
Greek Salad – Gulnaz
Ceasar Salad – Azam
Lettuce Salad w/ Bell Pepper Dressing – Sidrah
My Fresh Salad – Zain
Deconstructed Ceaser Salad – Iqra
No Fat Salad – Mudassir
Italian Dressed Salad in a Nest – Madiha
Walnut Bacon Salad – Ammarah
Mango & Avacado Salsa – Saad.

The winner was Saad because Chef Shai felt that the portion size was just perfect for the entrée as well as the presentation & the grilled prawns. Saad won the advantage of getting a help from Chef Shai that too for 10 minutes in the upcoming challenge.

The last & the elimination challenge was set by Chef Shai where she brought a dish created by her & it was more like a recreation challenge where she provided the contestants with the recipe & they had to come up with a dish exactly like hers but it could vary in the presentation. The dish was Tenderloin Medallion w/ Lemon Chilli Prawns & Curried Quinoa. The contestants got 90 minutes for it with an open pantry & the resulting dishes were good to see. Chef Shai did make it clear that in the culinary world people follow a KIS rule which refers to ‘Keeping It Simple’, so she advised everyone to follow it throughout.

Maryam was the first one to get the feedback from the judges. Chef Shai felt that the Quinoa was under-cooked, the curry was a bit spicy, cheese bowl was a bit thick that’s why it turned soggy but the prawns were good. Chef Mehboob commented that the prawns were good but the sauce was overpowering. Chef Khurram didn’t like the presentation & Chef Zakir felt that the steak had a burnt flavor to it.

Amna got her feedback were Chef Mehboob said he couldn’t eat the under-cooked prawn. Chef Shai also commented that the cheese bowl was too thick & soggy but she liked the steak & felt that the sauce was well seasoned. Chef Zakir commented that raw food is a big no no & it a massive problem.

Rayyan was the next in line for the judges’ remarks. Chef Mehboob liked the prawns, the beef but felt that the sauce was a bit too strong but when combined with the whole dish, it worked really well. Chef Khurram told him that he could do well with the presentation.

Sidrah got the comments where Chef Shai felt that the steak was dry but prawns were good. Chef Mehboob commented that she tried to do well on her part & she succeeded, he told her to keep up the good work. Chef Khurram felt that the sauce was a bit more sour & spicy but if she had improved she was the only one who would’ve gotten closer to the actual dish.

Khurram came in to get a feedback on his dish. Chef Mehboob said that the quinoa was raw, prawns weren’t good as they were overcooked but the sauce & the cheese bowl were right. Chef Khurram didn’t like the presentation. Chef Zakir was as usual stern & said that this sort of food won’t earn him respect (!?!?!?!).

Azam got some great remarks as Chef Shai liked the sauce & Chef Mehboob commented that the beef was well cooked & well-seasoned.

Gulnaz got appreciated as well. Chef Mehboob liked the plating & felt that the dish was ideal because the prawns, the steak, the sauce were cooked perfectly. Chef Shai liked the seasoning of the prawns & commented that if she seeks knowledge of this art, she can become a great chef herself. Chef Khurram felt she gave a good response to her competitors. Chef Zakir named the cheese basket as Chitrali Basket.

Zain was next in line. Chef Shai felt that the steak was dry. Chef Khurram didn’t like the sauce. Chef Mehboob said that the sauce was over-reduced that’s why it lost the flavour & the beef as well as the prawns were over-cooked. Chef Zakir commented that the beef was so over-done that it had no flavour.

Mudassir came to get in his remarks. Chef Mehboob said his beef was a disaster as it was over-cooked. Chef Zakir said because the steak was so thinly sliced it easily got over-cooked & was giving a burnt flavour too & the sauce had a totally different flavour.

Saad was the last one but he got some great comments. Chef Mehboob felt that he chose a wrong plate for the presentation but other than that the steak, the prawns & the quinoa were good perfectly. He felt that by far this was the best dish he had tasted. Chef Khurram commented on the choice of plate to but liked the flavours of his dish. Chef Zakir said he enjoyed eating the dish a lot & also said he has high expectations of him.

So, these were the comments & now it was time for the bottom 5 & someone’s journey to end. Zain, Maryam, Mudassir, Amna & Khurram were in the bottom & Mudassir was eliminated from the competition. Every contestant had some great things to say about him & we wish him good luck too. & once again I feel the judges remarks didn’t do justice to how weak Mudassir’s dish actually was that he was eliminated because going by the remarks that were shown, Khurram had the weakest dish where the 3 main ingredients were bad but Mudassir had only stuffed up the beef component. Not too sure what were they thinking.

On a personal note, I liked how Chef Shai was pointing out the positives in all the dishes even after the contestants had made some massive mistakes. She was being positive about everyone’s attempt & was impressed too. I feel she contributed greatly as a guest judge.

& yes, the thing we all dreaded was covered in this episode & that was the politics & the rift between the contestants. I so wish they had settled it off the camera & had kept the dignity of all the contestants intact. No doubt Gulnaz got some great comments & she won the challenge but that doesn’t mean she comes up with her personal behind-the-scene issues in front of the judges. I think the editors should have edited the whole thing ‘because’ we’re more interested in seeing the cooking & not the drama. I really like Gulnaz & also I like Saad, not too sure about Amna though but then to see Gulnaz taking names of the people involved & later getting the remarks by the judges on them wasn’t something good to see. The judges based Gulnaz’s dish remarks on the rift too where Chef Khurram said ‘this dish was an answer to her competitors who had questioned her’. I feel it’s a cooking competition & it should remain that way. The judges tried really hard to fetch something by stirring Rayyan-Madiha controversy but when they saw that Rayyan & Madiha tackled it brilliantly & didn’t give away much, they picked just the rightly naive person for it. I hope we don’t get to see more such issues that the contestants may be experiencing off the camera because this is MasterChef we’re interested in.

I am kind of curious as to why the clip of Chef Zakir was removed from the previous episode where he was being rude to Madiha when she asked a question. In the preview last week they did show something but when the actual episode went on-air I think that clip was deleted purposely. If they didn’t intend to show it then they shouldn’t have shown Chef Zakir’s remark in the preview too. I hope they don’t do such things for the ratings as they are getting enough already.

Marasim – Episode 11!

Once again I enjoyed watching Marasim. This episode was based on what Nayab was going through & I think they’ve done a brilliant job in portraying her feelings. The editing seemed a little off like a lot of scenes were shot in same dresses & were put together as a continuation of another scene, but then once again in the next scene they were in the previous dresses. It kind of targeted the continuity of the scenes but never mind, it can be ignored. :)

Nayab’s nightmare has begun where she has pretty much understood that she is a nobody in this house. She was just brought into this house for the sake of filling the empty space next to Daood & to add more to her woes, her husband has made it pretty clear that she is an unwanted person in his life too.

The best scene of this episode for me was the day-dreaming moment between Nayab & Zaid. It was touchy yet beautiful. I think they kept it just as realistic that Zaid did cross Nayab’s mind & she just didn’t move on because she got swamped with fulfilling Daood’s chores. In the hard times, the only thought of Zaid was enough to bring a smile on her face but it all slipped away when the reality struck & she had to come back to her senses for what her life was now.

Daood has been juggling between the feelings of hatred & sympathy for Nayab but I am sure he’d be able to surpass it very soon because Nayab has started to do things as her MIL fancies. She may not be interested in what her duties are as Daood’s wife but for now she is making sure to not upset her MIL because she gets to spend time with Gaitiara & then Deeba.

I kind of liked the fact that even though Gaitiara was sounding stern & mean but she was persistent on bringing Daood & Nayab closer. She might sound harsh while interacting with Nayab but not even for a second she tried to brain-feed Daood against her & instead, unlike a typical MIL she was trying to rationalize Daood’s behaviour & tried to make him realize that he had certain responsibilities towards Nayab & she had some rights as his wife too & I really liked how they made it visible through her selfishness. Even though at a first thought Gaitiara might look like a typical mother-in-law but she wasn’t acting like one. All she needs is her son’s happiness & wants him to snap out of his love for Momenah.

I cringed a lot when I heard Deeba talking. I think she is better off as a silent show-piece to compliment the family picture because whenever she speaks, she makes no sense at all. All of a sudden she goes like mera bhai, mera bhai so where was her sympathy when she was hell-bent on calling off his engagement to the love of his life, that too for her own revenge? All her eye-rolling & teeth-grinding doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Nayab has sacrificed a lot on her self-esteem & is trying hard to earn a place in everyone’s heart. Even though she may not want it but she does make an effort because she has understood that there’s no backing out now, so it’s better to do what’s expected of her & for that her character earns all the points.

I am glad Sherbano’s elder sister has some wisdom & she tackled her brilliantly. Sherbano seems fixated too & she is acting exactly like how she used to be with Gaitiara. She needs to forget & move on & most importantly, she needs to understand that her sister is now Momenah’s MIL, so her fixation to Daood & Momenah’s past relation doesn’t help much in front of her sister.

I can’t wait to see how Daood gets attached to Nayab because for now they have do some strong chemistry going on. I have never said this before but I think Ahsan Khan looked really presentable in the white jacket in this episode. I think he should go for more whites in the dramas because he certainly can pull the colour off. Sonia Hussain looked like such a doll & even Urwa Hocane looked nice & simple. Can’t wait for the next episode; share your thoughts on this, please. :)

Aahista Aahista – Episode 02!

Hmmmm, did you guys feel a thing for any of the characters? Nope, me neither. Apart from the crisp quality, vibrant colours & the artistic camerawork, this play hasn’t offered anything as yet. I am still waiting to be wowed but not sure if it’s going to happen in the near future or so.

I don’t know why but I felt all the characters except Bee Jaan’s seemed too forced to be true. As much as Hina Bayat looks timelessly beautiful, I feel her character of Shireen is like one of those relative aunties who we all dread interacting with. Her concern (read fixation) with Zawaar was kind of unusual. Bee Jaan being his bio-mom was laid-back & relaxed when it came to Zawaar but Shireen Apa’s unnecessary brow furrowing was uncalled for. It was like she got the most awaited opportunity of bashing Zawaar left right & centre, so she was making the most of it. I kind of lol’ed when Shireen Apa held Zawaar irresponsible. I am sure his sense of responsibility could be measured by the number of bank drafts he must be sending from USA. I found the character of Bee Jaan a lot better. It’s like Saba Hameed has been able to convey the feelings of a mother who is worried about her only son & has high hopes of him, perfectly.

I want to congratulate all the viewers because we have another weak man, who has made it to our screen successfully. I feel Zawaar is a depiction of those weak mama’s boys who just can’t take a stand for the choices they make. I mean it took him only a single flight back-home & a couple of tears from his mother to forget he has someone waiting for him & that someone is no one else but his lawfully wedded wife. I think people like Zawaar should never really go for love marriages because it takes a spine to stand by the side of your love. Very easily he submitted to Bee Jaan’s wish of getting married to a girl half his age & I really couldn’t feel a thing for him even after seeing him frown.

Does anyone get the nature of Haya’s character so far!?!?! All I know about her is that she shrugs her shoulders, cries as if she’s neighing & yes when she is in a happy mood, she plays games with the kids of her mohalla. Her scene in this episode once again began with her whinny face & it was enough to put me off. I actually hope that before the drama-makers start showing the emotions that the characters are going through, they should actually take some time out & establish the characters & their natures so that we can understand what they might do if they face a certain situation. Just so, I feel this drama started just like that; where we only can understand the characters based on the dialogues they deliver & there’s nothing more to it, no depth, no insight whatsoever.

Yes, I did feel that Sarwat Gillani has conveyed her feelings beautifully. She was frustrated, she was agitated, she was helpless & all she could do was scream at her husband who was too busy washing his hands to chuck on some mehandi on his hair & hands for his new marital adventure. I didn’t understand why Zawaar told Sofie to be a bit more understanding. It’s like he knew she was his wife & she wasn’t going anywhere so he could take her for granted. Zawaar’s demand of her being considerate was wrong because he is the one who has gotten married to her without even thinking for a second about his mother, so how can he expect his wife to feel for Bee Jaan? Zawaar’s outburst on Sofie for being too inconsiderate was wrong. If there was one person he should’ve been angry at, it was he, himself. He should’ve been disappointed at himself for not being a man enough to protect his love, his wife in front of his just fine & healthy mother & also for being a devious son.

It was just an ohkay episode & going by the conversation all the viewers had in the last review, I couldn’t help noticing the sagging eye bags of Adnan Siddique which actually told me the tale of his age. I feel someone’s in a dire need of either a botox or a filler. I must say whoever is responsible for Mawra’s styling has done a petty job. Those leggings & short shirts do not do justice to her physique & she looked like the famous Olive (Popeye The Sailor Man’s Girlfriend). Her styling might change in the next episode & looking at the preview I think she does look amazing. Share what you felt about tonight’s episode.

MasterChef Pakistan Week 06 – Kitchen Challenge!

Ohkay, I must say, this episode was a complete MasterChef package for me because it was perfect in terms of cooking, perfect in terms of execution & most importantly it was perfect in regards to the judges too. I am glad we got to see a lighter side of the judges this time around & as the episodes are progressing I feel that the judges are getting candid & comfortable in their seats & are actually making an effort in understanding the contestants & their mental pressures more. This episode had absolutely no drawbacks whatsoever & I thoroughly enjoyed it this time around.

The challenge itself was really interesting where the contestants randomly got the cuisines they had to work upon. They were told to check the drawers & their reactions were honest, where some were excited & the others were lost.

Azam & Saad got Pakistani Cuisine.
Iqra, Rayyan & Madiha got Chinese Cuisine.
Gulnaz, Ammarah & Sidrah got Thai Cuisine.
Khurram & Amna got Italian Cuisine.
Maryam, Zain & Mudassir got Arabic Cuisine.

It was once again a 60 minute challenge with a semi-open pantry. The dishes that the contestants came up were amazing & the judges were a bit more elaborate in explaining which dishes they liked & what they didn’t in certain dishes.

Amna presented Fettuccine Alfredo w/ Bruschetta. Chef Khurram liked the dish & felt that the chicken was tender, sauce was flavoursome but it was a little too creamy. According to him the dish wasn’t what he expected from Amna at this stage. Chef Zakir felt that the pasta was too thin to fit the mark of fettuccine & also told her that fettuccine is not supposed to be cooked with the sauce & just because she did it, the pasta was over-cooked. Chef Mehboob also commented that the pasta was thin & the sauce was too creamy with no accurate ratios.

Khurram made Beef Lasagne w/ Garlic Cheese Bread. Chef Mehboob felt that too much was going on in the dish & a lot of ingredients were used unnecessarily. Chef Khurram also felt that he could taste a lot of flavours & told him to stick to the basics. Chef Zakir felt that the sauce was too rich & the marination of the beef wasn’t great too.

Gulnaz came up with Thai Green Curry. Chef Mehboob loved the dish because as per him the flavours were in perfect harmony. He felt that the curry had a very mild but a great flavour. Chef Khurram also liked the dish & said that the flavours were balanced & the chicken was great too. Chef Zakir commented that this was so far the best dish that she has cooked in the competition. He also liked the fact that she kept things simple & pointed out that especially.

Sidrah made Thai Red Curry w/ Sautéed Rice. Chef Mehboob appreciated her especially because this was the first time she attempted a Thai dish. He said it was a little bit on the spicier side but perfect for him. Chef Khurram liked the presentation & also the dish because it was flavoursome.

Azam came up with Zaffrani Qorma. Chef Zakir felt that the onions were giving a little sweeter quotient to the dish & said that if the flavours aren’t balanced, the dish doesn’t taste good. Chef Khurram said that the chicken was a little undercooked but he liked the curry & said that he could still taste the saffron which was a good sign.

Maryam presented Mandi as an Arabic dish. Chef Mehboob felt the whole dish was too dry. Chef Khurram thought that the dish tasted like Pakistani Pulao & not at all like Arabic Mandi. Chef Zakir questioned her choice knowing that she was attempting this dish for the first time.

Rayyan made Charred Beef w/ Veggies. Chef Zakir didn’t like his cutting techniques. Chef Khurram liked the flavours but found it too dry.

Irqa made Dry Beef Chilli w/ Garlic Rice & Beef Mince Filled Cabbage Rolls. Chef Mehboob commented that the rice tasted good but the beef was a letdown of the dish.

Madiha presented Cashew Chicken w/ Raisin Fried Rice. Chef Khurram felt that too much flavours made her dish into something else & it wasn’t a proper Chinese dish. Chef Mehboob said that the dishes should be simple. Chef Zakir asked her again if she didn’t get what was asked of her.

Zain presented an Arabic platter of Parsley Chicken with Hummus, Tabouli & Peta Bread. Chef Khurram felt that the Hummus was a bit too thick & he thought his dish wasn’t Arabic enough in terms of the flavours. Chef Mehboob told him the right way of making Tabouli & commented on his cutting skills too.

Mudassir made a Deconstructed Chicken Shawarma. Chef Zakir felt that the chicken had no flavour & also the cutting wasn’t right. Chef Khurram felt that the chicken lacked the shawarma-like taste. Chef Mehboob commented that the chicken should’ve been sliced thinly & also the sauce had no right flavours.

Ammarah made Thai Red Curry w/ Prawn Soup. Chef Mehboob commented that the balance wasn’t right & just because she tried to balance it out, the flavours were lost completely. Chef Khurram liked the presentation but he said that the overall taste of the dish wasn’t that impressive.

Saad made Shahi Badaami Qourma. Chef Khurram loved his dish too & felt that there was no need of changing the name because the flavors were spot on & this dish was the best one in Pakistani category. Chef Zakir shook hands with him & appreciated his effort. Chef Mehboob said that he has picked up a pace & has started to perform ever since the last team challenge & this dish was amazing too.

So, these were the dishes & I am glad they covered everyone’s cooking, dishes & then the tastings in this episode. Zain broke down because he couldn’t perform & we got to see a friendlier side of Chef Mehboob because he made Zain understand how he shouldn’t take these comments to his head & rather take them as a guideline for improvement. Chef Mehboob also told him & the other contestants about a story of his struggles & he said that the contestants will be put up with physical & mental pressures & whoever will survive till the end by putting the act together will become a MasterChef.

The judges had to select the top 5 & said that the one who will win the challenge will get the immunity. The winner will perform in the next elimination round but will be safe. The top 5 were Azam, Amna, Saad, Sidrah & Gulnaz. I feel for the very first time the judges did a justice to the winning dish with their remarks because they didn’t hold back & didn’t fish for unnecessary flaws in the dish. Going by their remarks it was pretty evident that Gulnaz will be the winner & she actually was. She was ecstatic, happy, humbled & overwhelmed & the judges praised her wholeheartedly to boost up her morale & encourage her to perform similarly in the upcoming challenges. I feel this is the exact vibe that we; the viewers were expecting from the judges & I am glad it wasn’t too late & they have redeemed themselves.

On a personal note I really like how Madiha always adorns her scarves with matching girly accessories, it looks really really cute. :) I enjoyed seeing the personal VT’s of Mudassir & Ammarah. It’s good to know that the ladies do get support from their families to work on their passion. Gulnaz is a sweetheart & her innocence is a treat to watch. I am actually really happy that Gulnaz proved herself & Saad is also working towards a winning streak.

So, for the first time in MasterChef we’re expecting a guest chef in the elimination round. I don’t know why but I have a strong feeling that the guest chef would be none other than Chef Rahat, I may be wrong but I think it might be her. Any guesses who the guest chef might be? :) Share what you felt about tonight’s episode.

Haroon Rasheed Calls Shaista Lodhi Stupid And Irresponsible

0

Haroon Rasheed is one of those columnist/Analyists who are always very blunt when it comes to expressing their opinion. Some viewers may think that the Shaista Lodhi’s Morning Show’s controversy is dead and buried but there are still people who have a great deal to say about it.

According to Haroon Rasheed he did not expect any better from Shaista Lodhi because it always amazed him that such an unimportant person was given such an important job. He said that Shaista Lodhi could do anything stupid like that at any time.

Bay Emaan Mohabbat- Episode 17 & 18

th

I’m beginning to think that Dania is schizophrenic. How else can she justify her behaviour and her repeated affirmations that she cares about her parents izzat? Mere apney gharwaley mujhpe aetebaar nahin karte– umm, not very long ago, she was having an affair with her best friend’s mangaitar– Babar! I understand that somewhere along the lines, we may lose track of the storyline since it tends to drag on endlessly but I doubt we can forget what started this whole mess.

After talking down to her and destroying her self-respect, Nabeel finally succumbs to izhaar-e-mohabbat and the two of them reconcile. But just as the lovebirds are planning their future, Naeem informs Dania that Nabeel was the one who was responsible for her father’s condition. But thankfully, there was no misunderstanding as Dania immediately sorted it out with Nabeel and admitted that even if he was at fault, she’s just too involved with him to care- hmm, so much for putting family first.

The private investigator is back in the scene- he approached Naeem with a proposition. Naeem is only too eager to help since he has a score to settle with Dania Ji. Nabeel senses that he is being followed and also discovers the CD recorded with a conversation that took place between him and Sumbul. He gets worked up and asks for his office to be tapped so he can monitor everyone’s phone calls, movement, etc.

Dania does what she does best- being pushy to the point of making men run far, far away. She did it with Babar and now she’s putting Nabeel in the same spot. Why can’t they show women as positive role models? Yes, she made a blunder by trusting Babar, but she should have redeemed herself by focusing on building a life for herself instead of rushing into the arms of the next man she found.

Dania’s parents are completely helpless when it comes to reasoning with their daughter. They try to make her realize that even if Nabeel ends up marrying her, he will not be too keen on publicizing the marriage which will make things very difficult for Dania. But Dania is desperate to get married and she is seemingly upset when Nabeel voices his concern. However, he reassures her parents that he will accept their demands- whatever they may be! Dania always dreamed of riches and it seems like her dreams are about to come true- unless Maria returns and wreaks havoc.

18 episodes have gone by and at this rate, I see another 10 episodes before the story comes to an abrupt end. I don’t know why actors like Noman Ejaz and Saba Qamar agreed to taking up this drama- they can do so much better! I know that the budget was minimal but seriously, couldn’t Saba Qamar at least change outfits once every episode if not more frequently? I’m sick of seeing her in the same clothes since the past 3 episodes now- it makes me think the scenes never end! Are you still watching? Thoughts?

Yours in watching,

Kanwal Murtaza

Wasim Akram angry at comments on social media

Sultan of Swing, Wasim Akram has recently celebrated his 48th birthday and talked with Geo News on this occasion. Wasim Akram is working as coach for a team of Indian Premier League and also as commentator for Star Sports a media house of India.

Recently many questioned Wasim Akram on social media that why he is working India and not in Pakistan. Few  even declared him unpatriotic for which Wasim Akram replied in the following interview

On a personal note, I want to say that every professional has the right to choose his/her workplace whether it is in their homeland or abroad. Two out of my three children also live and work abroad and I am unable to figure out when working abroad has been a scale to measure patriotism. Also If working or cooperating with India is unpatriotic then it should be applicable to all professionals and persons not to some specific ones. It is strange that Waseem Akram is declared unpatriotic or traitor for coaching an IPL team, but many among us also protest that why Shahid Afridi is not allowed to play in IPL (Shahid Afridi and other pakistani players have played IPL in first two seasons)??. What kind of double standard is this, where one person is declared traitor and other is praised for working in a same organization/event like IPL.

P.S. Its my personal opinion, I am not against Shahid Afridi, he is also my hero like Waseem Akram and any other cricketer

Indian artist Shatrughan Sinha to visit Pakistan

Shatrughan Sinhais an Indian film actor and politician. Apart from being member of Rajya Sabha twice he was also Union Cabinet Minister of Health and Family Welfare (Jan 2003-May 2004) and Shipping (Aug. 2004). He was elected to 15th Lok Sabha in 2009. Shatrughan Sinha is member of Bharatiya Janata Party, which is famous for its Anti Muslim agenda and Anti Pakistan ideology.

Despite associated with an extremist anti-muslim and anti-Pakistan party, Shatrughan Sinha has vast friendships across the border in Pakistan. He has visited Pakistan on numerous occasion and is also expected to visit again to attend the birthday of her Pakistani  ‘Moonh-Boli Behan’ (someone considered as sister without a blood relation).

To remind my readers regarding past, Pakistan has been ruled by an army dictator named Ziaul Haq from 1977 – 1988. General Ziaul Haq was considered ‘Mard-e-Momin Mard-e-Haq’ by his admirers and the same General Zia was the closest friend of Shatrughan Sinha. During 1980’s Shatrughan Sinha visited Pakistan many times where he used to stay in President House (Aiwan-e-Sadar). General Zia has always stated Shatrughan Sinha as like his sons, and his youngest daughter Ms. Zain Zia declared Shatrughan Sinha as his ‘Moonh Bola Bhai’ i.e. someone considered as brother without any blood relation.  Shatrughan Sinha has family terms with the other family members of General Zia as well and visited Pakistan on the wedding of son of Aijaz ul Haq (grandson of  General Zia) few years ago.

Coming back to this post, Shatrughan Sinha is coming to Pakistan possibly with his wife to attend the birthday of Ms. Zain Zia. Ms. Zain Zia is the youngest daughter of Zia-ul-Haq and Shafiqa Zia out of their five children (two sons and three daughters). Ms. Zain Zia was quite famous in 1980’s as she was seen regularly with her father General Zia on official ceremonies, foreign tours and state gatherings. Being a patient of autism, Ms. Zain Zia was applauded for her courage to fight this disease.  After the death of General Zia, Ms. Zain Zia is not much active and seldom appears at any event.

Indian film Holiday allowed screening in Pakistan

Censor board has allowed the screening of Indian film Holiday in Pakistan which stars Akshay Kimar. But what is unusual about it in a country where Indian films are regularly screened in multiplexes across the country for past many years. Indian films attract large viewership and generate revenue and are considered necessary for the survival for cinema industry. Indian film celebrities are household names and indian music is also relayed from most of the FM radio channels throughout the day. Showbiz segment of news bulletin also gives generous coverage to each and every aspect of Indian celebrities. Majority of print media also overs Indian films in their showbiz section, while Indian celebrities are the preferred choice for advertisers due to their popularity among general public.

So what makes Holiday special, well it is the story of an Indian army officer. In the past censor board has not passed any Indian film based on Indian army or spy agent, or Pakistani army. Though Indian films discussing any thing other than Pakistan army are allowed screening. Like someone told that famous cricketer Shahid Afridi was discussed in a negative manner in a recently released Indian film Total Siyyapa. Indian film Holiday has received censor certificates from all three censor board based in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad after cutting few scenes. Screening of an Indian film based on Indian army shows signs of relaxation in censor regulations and also government has decided to relax its restrictive policy.

The film is released on Friday 6th June 2014 and is expected to generate substantial revenue as Akshay Kumar is widely popular in cine goers .Even though, Akshay’s last film Boss was a complete dud, it managed to generate considerable revenue for its Pakistani distributors.

Interestingly in Pakistan, there has been an undeclared restriction on making any film based on army. In past Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), an institution of army has refused any assistance for a project based on army. Portrayal of army officers has never been shown in any film. Waar was the first Pakistani film where ISPR has cooperated to make a film on terrorism.

Adhura Milan- Episode 4 & 5 Review

index

Tabrez Alam’s heroic act soon turned to a fiasco when word reached Falak Sher Bhai. Woh insaan hi kya jo bedaahgh ho… Nayyab tried her best to plead her case of wanting to stay at but her words fell on deaf ears. Jaan se ziada izzat pyaari hoti hai! She was forced out and returned to her Chacha in classic Cinderella style leaving behind her chappals. I get how Tabrez played the role of her savior but I was quite surprized to note Nayyab’s overconfidence while dealing with the elders- Bibi Jaan and Falak Sher. It wasn’t like Tabrez had promised her the world but somehow she seemed a little too sure for a bholi bhaali gaon ki larki. Alishba reaction at finding out that Nayyab was mercilessly sent away was again very over-the-top considering that she met Nayyab only last night.

images2

As lavish as the sets are, I was extremely disappointed with the bedrooms- to put it mildly, they are hideous- be it the loud pink in Alishba’s room or the red in Uzma’s room, they are just too tacky and scream of kitsch. With Nayyab back in her village, her Chacha rearranges her match made in hell with Sultaney. And for the second time, Nayyab runs away and Sultaney is devastated to find his wife Jeeva in place of Nayyab. Tabrez sends his chauffeur on a rescue mission and has Nayyab back in his sarparasti.

Dilawar is frustrated with his na ehel and na laiq henchman, Ishtiaq and tells him to round up the media once again. The last dharna was a roaring success but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to destroy Tabrez. Dilawar is obsessed with bringing down Bibi Jaan and co and spends his time plotting and scheming. Till now, we haven’t discovered much about Dilawar’s personal life- is he married? Does he have a family? I think once we get to know more about him, we may find it in our hearts to empathize with him.

Uzma and Tabrez have yet another spat- baatein bhi toh barti chali jaati hein; pehle Noor ul Ain ki Taabedaari, phir Haadiya ki tasveer, aur ab kam umar larkiyon ki sarparasti. With that, we get to know that Tabrez’s muse (Iffat Omar) is Haadia. We also found out that Bibi Jaan tried to get Tabrez married to Haadia but failed and instead got him married to Uzma- a hum umar biwi jiskey saath woh khush reh sakey. But Uzma hasn’t made his life a bed of roses and Tabrez is perpetually frustrated and avoids her as much as he can.

As far as the acting is concerned, Samina Peerzada is a sight for sore eyes; Faisal Rehman is one of my favorite actors and he excels at this role; Usman Peerzada is flawless; Alyy Khan lives up to the role of the ruthless Dilawar. However, the newbies are nothing to wrote home about.

P.S. I’ve recently found out that Adhura Milan is not your regular 20+ episode serial. It is a long-running soap! I hope to God they were kidding when they mentioned that it will run for at least a 100 episodes. I doubt I can watch something that runs for that long, let alone review it so I will most likely opt for a monthly instead of a weekly review. If any of you know otherwise, please let me know!

Yours in watching,

Tonight with HSY, a show by Hassan Sheharyar Yaseen

Hassan Sheharyar Yaseen is an iconic figure in fashion fraternity serving for past 20 years. Mutitalented HSY is famous for fashion brand HSY, choreography and arranging mega fashion events like PDFC fashion weeks, Dubai Fashion Week for Pakistan. In start of his career Hassan also hosted a show with Iffat Raheem in mid 90’s on NTM (First private channel of Pakistan).

Now Hassan is coming with another talk show named Tonight with HSY, which is expected to be aired after Eid ul Fitr this year. Providing insights of this show HSY told the english daily The News:

Don’t expect formal – unless you’re thinking clothes. HSY and his well-dressed friends will be seen having a good time chatting over a cup of tea over the course of one hour, once a week, during TV prime time. The show will have a laidback tone and single/multiple guests will be on it per episode.

Will it be a Pakistani version of Koffee With Karan? You might want to wait until you actually see the show. Hassan says that he loves what Karan does, but this is going to be his show. “It’s rather typical of us to always compare things even if they’re original,” says HSY. “Besides, I’m a tea drinker. No coffee for me.”

The good news is that you won’t be hearing the words “rapid fire” on the show unless, heavens forbid, something on the set is aflame. The designer says he will scream if hears those words again.

Tonight with HSY will not serve as a medium to specifically promote the guests’ new projects, films or clothing lines. According to Hassan, it will be about getting to know the persons behind the pretty faces you see on television, who are just as human as the rest of us.

“Shooting would normally go beyond scheduled hours because we’d just be laughing most of the time,” told Hassan, who is currently wrapping up seven episodes with his team.

The show will set itself apart from other talk shows by being not formulaic in its choice of guests and (fortunately) not having political personalities on it. “So long as you’re my friend you’re going to be on the show. You don’t even have to be too famous; just be interesting.”

Tonight With HSY will be a much needed dose of glamour on local television. The host tells us that the goal is to provide an hour of entertainment that will make viewers forget about the depressive fodder they see on the news every day. “We can always create an expansion of the world we live in,” he said, “just like we do in fashion.” –

Pehchan – Episode 8

Aap ka mali buhat mature hai mommy kyunke vo poodu se pyar krne mei believe hi nahi krta!

Well said Laila! But guess what? Your mom’s not listening! It is amazing how the writer has shown heaps of expectations that are attached to the bride after marriage and how easy everything is for the man. As long as the man is earning enough money and is good looking no one questions his mysterious behavior. In fact his behavior is justified by calling him mature, serious and stable – attributes that set Mansoor apart from other men! Only Laila knows that there is something just not right because no matter how hard she tries her husband shows little interest in her. Laila will never be good enough for Mansoor because he already has her where he wants her. He is more interested in Kukoo because she is not giving Mansoor the attention he wants. Kukoo finds it difficult to have a relationship with Mansoor especially after getting to know Laila so well. I love the way Kukoo’s character has been etched out. Iffat Omer was the perfect choice for playing this character; she brings out the best in Kukoo’s character.

Mansoor and his mother’s reaction to the news of Laila’s pregnancy was shocking for Laila. She was obviously expecting something very different. On one hand her father pampers her to the fullest and on the other her husband does not even hold her hand to assure her of his support and love. Alishba Yusef looked stunning today in all the scenes; she plays the naive, sweet and confused Laila with perfection. Laila’s frequent visits to her parents’ house show that she needs a dose of her father’s love every day to keep her going. She would want her father to come rescue her but she also knows that she must pick herself up every time and give this marriage her best because she has to make it work. Laila does not ask for more than a wife should from her husband but Mansoor finds it very difficult to even exchange a few words with her.

pehchan4

The way Laila and Kukoo had a heart-to-heart conversation tonight was actually very ironic. While Kukoo knows exactly who Laila is and where she stands in Mansoor’s life, Laila has no idea what relationship Kukoo once had with her husband. She cannot even imagine that Kukoo is the reason why Mansoor keeps his distance from her. I really liked this new turn in the story, I was most definitely not expecting the two families to get closer like this. Kukoo is nothing like the other woman that we see in our dramas a little too often. There was a time when Mansoor made a commitment with Kukoo but she is not going to punish Laila for something that Mansoor did. She understands that Laila is not at fault. Mansoor made a choice and she wants him to stick to it. Keeping a distance from Mandoor is not easy because he understands her the way Khurram never will but she is trying her best.

pehchan5

Mrs. Khan and Kukoo’s conversation was very interesting indeed. Was Mrs. Khan really talking about the delivery boy? I think not! I felt for Laila every step of the way in tonight’s episode and the other woman in this play has to be one of the most likeable characters in that particular category. Sohail Sameer has nailed his character; honestly speaking I did not expect him to do this well. I would give full marks to team Pehchan for giving a brand new treatment to a very old story and turning it into something very different and entertaining. This drama has a whole new feel to it and I can’t help but appreciate the way the story is being taken forward.

Izteraab – Episode 10!

Last thing I wanted to see in this drama was the quivering lips of some uncle we don’t even know nor even have sympathy with. Do they really think that by throwing in some more characters they’ll be able to pull off a well-packaged drama? I say they’re mistaken because what would be better is them concentrating more on the main characters of the drama & etching them out appropriately that by the end of the episode or even the drama we feel a thing or two for them.

Dua has finally taken responsibility of the kids & she is doing her part really well. Khala Masooma had a say in this episode too where she goes like ‘hum damaad pe bojh to nahi ban saktay’, whereas Dua only asked about what her future plans was seeing the physical condition of her father. Khala Masooma knows how to toss things in her favour because she gave clear hints to Dua in a hope that very open-heartedly she’ll invite her mother to stay with her. I feel this is why Khala Masooma spoke about her son-in-law or else why would she do that? I kind of feel that Khala Masooma is a bipolar patient because one thing she says pretty much doesn’t match the other.

Sofia has started to open up a bit & she is seeing Dua past the facade of she being a step-mom. Dua has played her part really well in making the kids love her because she understands their mind frame as she herself has experienced what the kids go through when their father get married to someone else. Luckily for Dua, this lesson helped her in cracking the code of how she can connect with Sofia & Tabrez. Tabrez being too young was already smitten by her but it was Sofia who needed to be worked upon. This little getaway to Sialkot has does a trick & Sofia is now relying on Dua & also has a shift of tone too.

Zara finally had a procedure & I am not sure if a patient feels really so well to chuck on a red lipstick & some shimmery eye shadows just the very next day. Zara has opened up to Dua because she has understood the reality & is now facing the facts. She knows that time’s slipping away & she has no other option except of relying on Dua because Dua has time & again reassured her of how much she loves Jazib’s kids. I think the ending scene of the phone conversation between the two ladies was done really well & Dua’s confession helped in easing the pain of Zara which she might feel in a concern of her kids. Jazib Jee was definitely missing while so much was happening but I think now the secret’s out & he will go into a shell where he’ll detest himself for not taking care of Zara, or that might never even happen because that’s Jazib Jee we’re talking about.

The characters of both the ladies in this drama are definitely good, they aren’t like the typical ones we’re coming across these days. Very easily they could’ve turned Dua’s character into that of a young snot who is taking advantage of her husband’s love but I am glad they showed Dua as someone who understands the complexity of the circumstances around her, acts accordingly & responsibly without demanding anything in return. No doubt at first, her character seemed annoying but I think her wisdom is appreciable. Share what you felt about tonight’s episode.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Anyone Spreading Rumors About Me Is An ” Insecure Psychotic” – Ushna Shah

0

Ushna Shah has been very vocal about how she feels about the scandal regarding her and Hamayun Saeed. Until now she has only said things about these rumors in an indirect way but this time she decided to give people especially A & B Productions who made a video about her scandal a shut up call.

Here is what Ushna Shah had to say

Untitled

She says that she has some standards which could mean that Hamayun Saeed does not come upto those standards. Now what does Hamayun say about that?
