Tribute Video for APS victims wins silver medal at US based global music awards
Story of Gulsher – Tehzeeb Foundation’s tribute video which is made for the victims of the Army Public School (APS) attack, has won a silver medal at the Global Music Awards in the United States.
The track was released in December which tells the story of two brothers,Gulsher and Shamsher.
The 13-year-old Gulsher lost his life in the attack while the younger Shamsher survived and then returned to his school with renewed spirit.
Story of Gulsher is part of the Action Moves People United album sponsored by UNESCO, and has been produced by Sharif Awan, general secretary of the Tehzeeb Foundation and producer of Indus Raag.
Sharif told The Express Tribune he is honoured to have won the coveted prize:
“It was our artistic response to terrorism because that’s all we can do. We can’t pick up arms and go fight,” he said. “I didn’t get any personal benefit from this but I believe it was a scholastic response to the incident. I’m glad Pakistan is getting more international recognition.”
“December 16 is such a tragic date in our history that we wish to avoid it like the 1971’s Bangladesh split. But now, it’s forever etched in our minds. Lyricist Harris Khalique summed it better at the launch last year when he said he hoped he never has to write such a poem again,” Sharif admitted. “Earlier, we were unable to commemorate December 16 but now we must capitalise on it like all responsible nations.”

Sharif also thanked his team for bringing Story of Gulsher to life. “Zoe Viccaji, Nafees Ahmed, Zia Mohyeddin and Arshad Mehmud worked free of cost. This was a personal project and we didn’t have many resources but still, they helped out. Even the Sindh government lent a hand,” he revealed. “Even Indus Raag 2 is nominated for a Lux Style Award (LSA) this year, marking the first time this kind of indigenous music is acknowledged by them. I will just say music will play its part. Each part of history has been reactive and responsive to the situations around. Trial, a drama based on politics
Last year the news of an upcoming drama Trial which is based on political scenario of 1970’s with the characters of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Indira Gaandhi, Yahya Bakhtiyar and others was mentioned in press reports. As per the press reports in Ocotber 2014 the drama was shot in Lahore where Samina Peerzada is working as Indira Gaandhi, Qavi Khan as Yahya Bakhtyar and Adnan Jeelani as Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
There were no further news about this drama, till last week when the Urdu Weekly Akhbar-e-Jehan published the following picture of Samina Peerzada and Adnan Jeelani in the getup of Indira Gandhi and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto respectively thus confirming such drama is in the making.

As already known few cinemas previously stopped screening Indian films and now the Cinepax cinemas all together have quit showing Bollywood films and rescheduled the shows with “the best of Pakistani films”.

This year on Eid ul Azha three really good movies were released including Janaan, Actor In Law and Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai. These films are presently running in the cinemas, previous films include like Bachaana, Bin Roye, Dukhtar, Mah e Mir, Manto, Moor, Shah and Zinda Bhaag are on the list to be included in the regular shows.
This move has been made by the cinemas after Pakistani exhibitors’ decision to cease the screening of all Indian films. Cinemas such as Lahore’s Super Cinema and Karachi’s Atrium Cinemas and Nueplex Cinemas were among the first to announce that move on Friday.

Trash Talking Dilemma Faced By Actresses!
We Pakistanis as a nation have a tendency to judge others and pass mean comments on them. From body shaming to poking noses in matters of other people’s lives we have done it all.
Let me start where all this judging starts. We all have witnessed situations in our friends and relatives where there were couples with one pretty person and the other average and deny it if you will but we all were there giving statements like “Allah kare Maa jaisa ho” or “Maa to ainvayin hai iski baap pe jaaye” when we were informed of the good news by the couple. So the poor child was subjected to judgments even before he/she was born. We said that sitting among our families and no one stopped us on this scrutiny. Obviously the baby will grow into a judgmental person as his surroundings suggest.
We have developed a horrible habit of judging others and passing comments on them when we do not even know them. The reason I have brought this topic up today is because I was going through my timeline few days back I saw a picture of Sajal Ali with Jhanvi Kapoor (daughter of Sridevi). The girls were standing in cold and were covered in full clothes. I REPEAT covered in full clothes. See the picture:
The picture was criticized as Sajal is doing an Indian movie by some people. To them I will give the benefit of doubt as our relation with India can lead to that. But there was a person who abused Sajal on this and his language was so hideous that my mind is still on fire and I obviously cannot quote that here. That incident lead me to search on how our actresses are subjected to this bullying behavior every day. I admit this happens all over the world but the kind of language we use here and the behaviour we showcase is beyond explanation. All over the world when you type the names of stars on the search bar you find news about their new projects, the events they attended or about what was going on in their personal lives and what we are getting here is:

Is this a way to attract audience by humiliating someone? By using such demeaning language about a woman who works, is independent and is trying to play her part in the society.
I am not implying here that dresses worn by our actresses or the lifestyles they adopt are the righteous or goes with the spirit of religion but do we have the right to bully them and slut shame them and call them names when we do not even know these ladies personally and the same religion has taught us to show tolerance and never disrespect anyone. All they are doing is working day and night; shootings, promotions and what not and here we are staring at our mobile screens and talking ill about them; ill to the level of abusing them and bashing their families. And I am not show casing myself as a feminist here because I believe men and women both should be respected equally but why the same nation didn’t shame Fawad Khan on playing a gay role in an Indian film. Because to me it was far worse than Humaima Malik’s risqué role in Raja Natwarlal and Humaima’s role wasn’t acceptable either.
The other problem which is seen on daily basis is disrespect shown by people on Instagram mostly when these actresses share their pictures with fans who actually value them. I saw many people calling them fat, old, ugly and even kaali. Is getting old something unique? Is being fat or dark a bad thing? Have you forgotten the legacy you carry and essence of your religion when you were taught by your Prophet:
“Superiority is only on the basis of piety and no white is superior to black.”
What I am trying to convey here is if you have nothing to do with your own life and all you have in you is to call names and bully these women on social media, use your time as there are many other things you can do on the internet. Believe me it is a vast territory. And if you do not like their clothing, their choices or their lifestyles just leave them alone. Don’t see them; don’t comment on their pictures because NOT SAYING (OR WRITING IN THIS CASE) IS BETTER THAN ILL TALKING ALL THE TIME!
Transgender Model Rimal Ali To Appear In ‘Saath Din Mohabbat In’
Transgender Model Rimal Ali is expected to make her cinematic debut with ‘Saath Din Mohabbat In’. The movie already stars Sheheryar Munawar and Mahira Khan in lead roles, while Ali will also be performing an item song alongside the former. (Alprazolam)
Rimal revealed the tale behind her being cast opposite Munawwar to shake a leg in a song. She said:
“I was approached for the movie by producer, Sanam Mehdi and I knew I had to do it. I can’t reveal the name of my character but what I can say is that I will be playing a transgender club dancer, which is why I also have a dance number in the movie. Sheheryar will also be performing with me in the song. We had a lot of fun during the shoot!”
Though the exact extent of Rimal’s role is unknown, it is good to see that Pakistani film industry is taking strides in a right direction. Pakistani transgender community is vocal and aware about its right, they always fight for their community and talk on their behalf in front of powerful people. A lot of educated transgenders are leading a noble and reputable life. Now, we see a lot of transgenders holding good positions in government offices. Transgenders are becoming doctors, models and anchors.
Well, we oftentimes notice the actors and people do hurt the sentiments of trans community. A few days ago, a clip of popular actors went viral on social media in which they were discussing the style and language of transgender community. The host Fiza Ali and actor Neelum Muneer told the audience and participants that transgenders have their own language and they also imitated their style and language, they both were pretty much aware of the language. In that show, Humayun Saeed was also sitting and was listening & seeing Fiza & Neelum’s actions and conversation.
After the clip went viral, it was caught by one of the transgender activist who is educated, empowered and vocal about issues, the activist said that he didn’t like this clip in which the popular television anchor along with an actor, was mocking their respected language & community.
He said, “we have our own language, we use word Cheesa for good looking, we use word Loora for a boy, we use word Koond lo for having lunch or dinner, it’s our language and we are proud of it as a community”.
She further said, “You also say these things, you say oh! wow he’s so handsome_ saying it in English won’t make you cool, you need to step down a bit from your higher standards”
He further said, “the clapping action is our style and trade mark, it’s respectable for us, don’t make fun of it, this clap is also practiced by men and women but they are never mocked for expressing their happiness”.
He said, “your education is not in your degrees, it’s not in your good clothing, it’s neither in your work, but it’s reflected from your personal behaviour and I haven’t seen any community more civilized than trans community, we call men and women by their names. We don’t call them with mocking names, you call us Khusra, Heejra, Meetha, Fruit, Thanda_ we never call you from bad names”
