Mehwish Hayat will appear on television once again after a break of 2 years with drama serial Dillagi. This drama will also mark the comeback of Hamayun Saeed in dramas who has been more busy with his production house and with making and acting in films. The drama has been directed by the same man who was behind the hit drama serial Pyare Afzal. Nadeem Baig and the entire team has worked day and night to bring this drama to the television viewers.
Mehwish Hayat posted on her instagram page that she was very excited to be back on television and this drama was very close to her heart.
She also posted various pictures from the sets of the drama. The promos of the drama serial are out and it will air on 5th March. Mehwish Hayat also quoted some dialogues from the drama serial on her page. The drama serial has been written by Faiza Iftikhar.
There was a time when Pakistan’s film industry seemed more like a joke where the actresses had everything to show except their acting skills, and the heroes were all limited to the roles of “Gujjar” and “Chaudhry”, yes, that was a misery, but thankfully, things have changed in the last 10 years. Today, as most of the audience sees it, the nation is coming up with polished products that are appreciated not only within the country but also abroad.
I did share a news about Tarang’s house full upcoming telefilm “Dil mera Dharkan teri” that went on air on May 3rd and surprisingly, the telefilm was far much better than my expectations and the feeling compelled me to jot down a few points to share with you all.
Note:For those who missed the show, here is a link from where you can see the remake of old Pakistani film “Dil Mera Dharkan teri” starring Ahsan Khan, Sanam Saeed and Sarwat Gillani.
Been directed by Mehreen Jabbar, the telefilm had everything to make it stand somewhere with Indian levels if we talk about good acting, pleasant graphics, effective editing and well-done costumes. By comparing the project with a good Indian entertainment venture, all I mean to say is that our entertainment industry has now reached to a point where our “once-loved” Indian movies stand nowhere in the race.
The remake of “Dil mera dharkan teri” is a good effort in reviving the film industry where the actors have given their best to make it a hit. I was amused to see Sarwat Gillani in the role of Saira and the fact that she is truly a versatile actress if you compare her acting skills as ‘Zoya’ of Dil-e- Muzter with what she had brought on screen in the telefilm.
As stated, the telefilm had all the ingredients to make it a hit, to be specific enough, from its direction to it production, from Ahsan’s natural personification of the character to Sarwat’s outstanding performance and yes, one thing that needs applause here is the role and acting of Sanam Saeed as ‘Beenish’. I loved her in every next scene for the reason that she knows how to make audience hate her and love her simultaneously.
Your opinion might differ from mine about Sanam’s performance in the telefilm, but what is quite noticeable is the reality that she can fit in any role, any character;changing her accent, her looks, her expressions and what not which is obviously a stand-alone quality of a good actor.
The telefilm also had few songs that are done pretty well. In the song “Qubool Kerlo”,Sanam’s appearance resembled to that of Deepika in the movie ‘Race 2’, which further add some spice as watching her that way is something viewer are looking for after watching her in the role of ‘Kashaf’ in ‘Zindagi Gulzar hai’ .
All in all, the two-hour telefilm was surely not a disappointment and in fact, such ideas have opened the new doors in the entertainment industry where audience looks forward for such projects. It is easy to conclude that after the controversial phase of promoting foreign content, Geo TV has played it safe to come up with the House Full series.

There has been news that Mahira Khan has accepted an Indian film but Mahira Khan in her latest interview with the magazine Instep said that these rumors are false. “I am not doing a film with Ranveer Singh. This smoke has no fire at all. I’m not even in talks with Bollywood, not really. I mean I’ve gotten calls, some from very reputed directors, but I’m in talks with no body for a film,”she said while talking to Instep.
“I think that they (Indian filmmakers) have only seen Humsafar in fact even Humsafar hasn’t played in India yet,” she added “They haven’t seen enough of my work to present something solid to me. If I work in India I want it to be for the same caliber of work that I get in Pakistan. I don’t want to change my standards.”
Mahira Khan in her interview made it very clear that she would like to work in India even though she maybe a little afraid of stardom there. “Bollywood is scary. It is unchartered territory. You don’t know what you are getting into. That said, Bollywood is scary but not so scary that I wouldn’t try.”
She also said that she will never compromise on quality
“If I’m choosy in my own country and if I’m picky then I’m going to be as picky in Bollywood. I’m going to look at a script as minutely as I do in Pakistan. Why should Bollywood or Hollywood or Turkey be any different? I don’t understand that. I don’t work like that. People tell me that it’s career suicide. They say, which actress gets fame and then decides to do one project a year. Who does this? I do it. The way I see it, if I can ask a close friend in Pakistan to read his script (referring to Asim Raza’s film) then I would also ask the same of a big director in India. ”
When asked that why Mahira said yes to Bin Royee Ansoo when she clearly said that she did not want to do any films, she replies “Bin Roye was offered to me right after Humsafar and Fawad was meant to do it. But he went on to do Khoobsurat. I had a choice and I decided that right now this is the best thing I could do. I liked the story. It had this one scene that kept me awake at night and drove me insane and I couldn’t not say yes.”
While talking about her recent drama Sadkey Tumhare, she said “I read the script and flipped over it and decided to do it….I have not enjoyed saying my dialogues as much as I have in ST. My leading man is Adnan Malik. The cast is fabulous and it was just like fresh air. It’s so interesting for me to play that girl. I hope people enjoy the dialogue and the script because it’s not your usual saga.”
It appears to be that we will be seeing Mahira Khan in an Indian movie too as soon as she bags a good script.
The much awaited film produced by HUM Films is going to be hitting the cinema screens this Eid-ul-Fitr. The film is based on the famous novel “Bin Roye Ansoo” written by the very well known playwright Farhat Ishtiaq. The film will also mark the debut of Momina Duraid as a director along with the talented director Shehzad Kashmiri who will be directing his first film.
The HUM Films held a Press Conference in which those people who are directly or indirectly related to the film participated. The trailer of the film was shown and questions related to the film were answered.

Makeup is an essential part of an actor’s job. A camera requires the person in front of it to look a certain way, that is why makeup becomes a necessity for an actor to prevent the camera from picking up unwanted details & enhancing skin conditions, which in reality look absolutely normal but get accentuated on TV screens. This is the reason why the actors, who may or may not be in favor of wearing a lot of makeup are required to wear some amount of it to at least have the coverage on face so that they don’t look too washed out or tired on screen.
Makeup also plays a crucial part in making or breaking a character, when an actor wears the right kind of makeup, it helps in conveying the scenario that a character is faced within the drama. Similarly, when an actor relies a bit too much on the makeup, it takes away the quotient of realness from the character & makes them look unnecessarily glamorous, which might not be requirement of the character. There are a lot of actors who do believe in wearing least amount of makeup to stay true to their characters & give them the realistic feel. However, there are also a lot such actors who do not shy away from wearing layers & layers of makeup. For such actors, looking good on-screen is the most important thing & that is why they do not really prioritize the feel & the look that actually goes with their characters.
Pakistani drama industry is filled with amazing & talented makeup artists, who work constantly behind the scenes to help the actors achieve the look they want to sport in their project. This is the reason why all the actors look so good on-screen, irrespective of the look that actually is needed for their characters. However, even though all the actors mentioned below have had perfectly done makeup in their dramas, they have always looked unrealistically glamorous considering the kind of characters they have played. This list is dedicated to those beautiful actresses who played the role of victims in their dramas but still succeeded in looking gorgeous & too made up.
Sohai Ali Abro (Surkh Chandni)
Surkh Chandni was probably one such drama that actually covered the journey of an acid attack victim in a very convincing manner. They started off by showing how Aida (Sohai Ali Abro) hit the rock bottom but with constant support, she not only ended up being a survivor but also turned this aspect of her life into her strength. Everything that was shown in Surkh Chandni was convincing & done right, except Sohai Ali Abro’s makeup & glamour. She looked too glam despite the fact that she was playing the role of an acid attack victim. Yes, one half of Aida’s face was covered with scarring (which also kept on fluctuating), however, the other half of her face had a thick, visible layer of perfectly matte foundation. Her eyebrows were on-fleek. Perfectly kohl’ed eyes. Eyeshadow was natural but done really well & not to forget the long-lasting liquid lipsticks that she wore, which completed her full face of makeup.
Sohai Ali Abro is one of those actresses who loves to wear makeup & looks absolutely glamorous in her dramas. However, it seems she was ready to play the role of Aida but not really keen on giving up on her habit of wearing a lot of makeup. Although she kept her makeup natural looking & did not resort to a lot of colors on her face, but the way her makeup was done seemed too perfect for someone who was an acid attack victim. In Surkh Chandni, a lot of real acid attack survivors were shown, so I guess Sohai Ali Abro had an example in front of her that none of the survivors looked the way Aida did. Yes, it was a drama & Sohai Ali Abro was just ‘playing’ this character & even though she acted brilliantly, the least she could have done is was give up on 2 – 3 layers, in order to make her character & her condition as an acid attack victim look a bit realistic.
Ramsha Khan (Kaisa Hai Naseeban)
Ramsha Khan is also one of those actresses who loves wearing tons of makeup. In the beginning of her career, Ramsha did have a hard time finding the right makeup artist because her makeup was always off & poorly done. As the time passed, Ramsha did learn what looked good on her but still, she didn’t really realize that a character like Mariam can not look real with the amount of makeup that she wore in Kaisa Hai Naseeban. Mariam was a typical bechari that is often shown in our dramas, with non-supportive husband, zalim saas, typical nand & Mariam being the girl who is made to run the house by working outside as well as has to do the household chores day & night. Even after all of the hard-work, Ramsha Khan succeeded in looking perfectly made up with rosy cheeks, false eyelashes, under eye highlighting, glossy pink pout & perfectly shaped eyebrows. Yes, she looked fine in the initial stages of the drama when she was at her father’s home & was then a newly wed but later when her world turned upside down, the thing that remained consistently perfect was her makeup. I really hope she lets everyone know which brand of lash glue she used, because her false eyelashes stayed intact even during the hospital scenes.
Minal Khan (Hassad)
Minal Khan is also one of those actresses who find it really hard to put their makeup brushes away. Minal Khan has the kind of face & features that can look absolutely perfect on-screen in minimal makeup but she does not believe in keeping it simple. The thing with Minal is that she does not only focus on her face makeup, she makes sure that her hair look shiny & the curls remain perfectly intact even if the world of her character is crumbling down. Minal Khan played the role of Naintara in Hassad & I guess she took the name of the character a bit too literally & seriously. She made sure to look like nainon ka tara by remaining all dolled up throughout the drama. In Hassad, Naintara loses her husband & her in-laws backwardly tell her to wear all-white outfits. Even in those scenes, I couldn’t help but notice how perfectly done her hair were & how she wore capris with so much of confidence amongst the family which was so bird-brained. Minal Khan tends to rely on makeup may be to add age to her characters since she plays such mature roles but it still looks unrealistic when her foundation is dewy, face is perfectly bronzed & highlighted, eye makeup is perfectly blended & hairdos are valima-appropriate – even in those scenes when she is mourning the loss of her on-screen spouse.
Alizeh Shah (Jo Tu Chahay)
Alizeh Shah is the new eye-candy of Pakistani drama industry. She is getting to be a part of one big project after another because she is extremely beautiful. Her makeup artist knows the art of makeup but this is where the problem begins. Alizeh Shah is usually made to play the roles of a teenager but her hair & makeup make her look too glam to give a damn. Alizeh Shah has dyed her hair which already add a bit of glam to her overall look & then paired with the amount of makeup that she does, it just makes her look unrealistically beautiful to be playing such roles which are faced with challenges in life.
In Jo Tu Chahay, Mashal (Alizeh Shah) is living with her simple, pious, God-fearing Dadi Ma, she is a teenager orphan who is not loved by anyone around her, she does not have much money & her male cousins are protective & keep an eye on her, so not sure how can she afford such amount of makeup because the final result shows that the makeup used on her face is not your cheap drugstore makeup, it definitely must be branded! Considering the fact that Mashal has no exposure & she is just a college-going girl who comes back to her simple si Dadi ma, her on-fleek makeup makes it look like she is obsessed with Nida Yasir’s morning show Good Morning Pakistan & she keenly follows the episodes dedicated to makeup which are conducted by makeup artists like Wajid Khan or Kashee. Alizeh Shah’s makeup actually is perfect but this is what the issue is – she doesn’t need so much of makeup as it makes it hard to feel for her & find her realistic. In Jo Tu Chahay, she has not worn eyeliner once but the rest of the face is so over-done that it doesn’t really matter. Her foundation is perfect, her face is heavily bronzed & hair are always straightened & just perfect. She really should share her beauty secrets with school/college-going girls out there because I am pretty sure, the one & the only thing thing those hard-working girls sport proudly at this age, is the sun-tan!
Ayeza Khan (Koi Chand Rakh)
In Koi Chand Rakh, Ayeza Khan took the title of the drama seriously & decided to play the role of ‘Chaand’ because she went for foundation probably 5 shades lighter than her skin-tone. She also played the role of ‘Chaandni’ because she decided to douse her face with shimmery highlighters. Ayeza Khan played the role of Dr. Rabail & in the very first introductory scene, where Dr. Rabail was shown to be on a long-duty, she looked like she had just finished walking the ramp for a fashion show & came backstage. Her hair was perfectly straightened, complexion was rosy, cheeks perfectly blushed, entire face highlighted, lips a perfect shade of pink & eye makeup done with expensive makeup brushes. The rest of Dr. Rabail’s journey was nothing short of a nightmare with her (makeup loving) husband cheating on her & everyone turning against her but again, her makeup remained perfect & the highlighter didn’t lose its intensity. Ayeza Khan is also one of those actresses who can do with the least amount of makeup & still look good on screen but she chooses not to walk that path!
So, these were the actresses who recently played the characters of victims in their dramas yet succeeded in looking absolutely gorgeous. Their makeup was done well but it just didn’t go well with their situations in the drama. Who else do you think wears a lot of makeup while playing the role of an ultimate victim in our dramas? Please feel free to add more names to the list.
Bachaana is an upcoming Pakistani film starring Mohib Mirza and Sanam Saeed in the lead roles. The film has been shot in Mauritius. It is about an Indian girl who gets lost in Mauritius and a cab driver who meets her by chance promises to take her back to India. Bollywood Live showed a special report on the film. They reported that after the success of the Indian film Bajrangi Bhaijaan now people from across the border were also making a film which had a similar story line.
The anchor person said,
“After looking at the trailer of the film it is very obvious that the story has been taken from the film Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The only difference is in Bachaana a little girl does not need to be rescued but it is a younger woman who has to be taken safely to India.”
The anchor person also said that they were waiting from comments from the director and the lead actor of the film Bajrangi Bhaijaan on the issue.
The Bachaana team was invited in the Morning Show “Ek Nayee Subha”. Sanam Saeed and Mohib Mirza are playing the leading roles in the film. Talking about the film Sanam Saeed said,
“Bachaana is a short film, it is a feel good film, upbeat, no one will get bored watching it. Dialogues are really good, it is quick, fast paced. It has great repeat value, you can watch it from any where at all and you will enjoy it.”
Sanam Saeed said that the best aspect of working in this film was that the team consisted of a few people and they were very efficient so everything was wrapped up quickly. She also said,
“The most important part of my character is that it is fun and bubbly. Viewers usually see me playing serious roles in dramas so they will enjoy this change. I am playing the role of an Indian girl.”
Talking about her real life personality Sanam Saeed said,
“I don’t talk a lot but I am not a very serious person. I am positive unlike many of the negative and angry characters I have played in dramas.”
Adeel Hashmi jokingly said,
“Because this film had so much glamour and so much fitness so they thought they should balance it out with someone unfit and not glamorous so I was chosen for that job.”
Mohib Mirza plays the role of a Pakistan Taxi driver in Mauritius who helps Sanam Saeed find her way back home.
While shooting for the film Adeel Hashmi said that he almost drowned in the sea.
Mubashar Lucman who is well know for his “Khara Such” apart from many other things has once again broken a news that is shocking. In a tweet Mubashar Lucman claimed with great confidence that after doing the tests the authorities have found out that Model Ayan who was arrested in money laundering case is 5 months pregnant. He also went on to say that this was bad news for the model and someone in Dubai. Mubashar Lucman also thinks that Ayyan’s life is in grave danger so she she should be protected.
These are some very big claims and if they are true then Ayyan’s already messed up life has taken another ugly and controversial turn.
Sumbul Iqbal has been a part of the Pakistani drama industry for four years now. She is remembered the most for her challenging role in drama serial “Roag”. Sumbal is usually seen on television playing character of the victim who cries a lot. While talking to MAG Weekly about her career in dramas the actress said, ” Women in our dramas are mostly portrayed as a central character to gain sympathy. I appear to be an innocent girl-next-door because of my features and so I have played the same kind of characters. Unfortunately, five or six of my drama serials were aired consecutively which made it look like I’m playing the same character over and over again. However, that isn’t the case, as after June, audiences will see me in a new avatar so just wait and watch!”
Sumbul Iqbal also said that working in drama serial Roag and Rukhsaar has been the highlight of her career. ” I consider Roag as a breakthrough play for me. It not only created a lot of opportunities, but my work was also appreciated by the fraternity. The subject was child abuse and Faisal Qureshi played the lead opposite me. It wasn’t a clichéd role and a turning point in my career. Last year, Rukhsar was another hit play, “ said the actress.
The actress also shared that she chooses her roles very carefully, keeping into consideration various factors. ” I never agree to play a role after narration. I will read the script first and then decide how to go about it. I make sure that my work is performance-based and message-oriented rather than a drama full of glamourous shots and drawing room scenes.”
Sumbul Iqbal believes in living a simple life because that to her is the key to success. We wish the young actress all the best.
Interesting is the fact that we can now see a series of great dramas going on air at the same time slots where we find ourselves confused basically when it comes to following Hum TV, ARY Digital or Geo TV in prime-time these days. Now that Fawad Khan’s new drama will be making its way to screen from August 24th, that is Thursday on Geo TV, Hum TV is again ready to give its rival a tough competition with its homework been done. ‘Aseer Zadi’ is the next drama serial that will replace ‘Dil-e-Muzter’ on Hum TV on saturdays from August 17th. The promos are already on air where we see some powerful celebrities doing something very different on screen.

The cast of the drama includes Sania Saeed, Farah Shah, Sakina Sammo, Salman Shahid, Noor Hasan, Ainy Jaffri, Eshita Mehboob, Sania Shamshad and Yasir Shoro in major roles. Noor Hasan, the Khizer of Humsafar is now again back with an important role and this is a great news for his fans but again, Fawad’s charisma which has already attracted a significant audience for his upcoming drama serial Numm,is likely to take over the game against him. Saniya Saeed is a wonderful actress and people really want to see her but they would rather prefer to watch her in Numm inspite of watching here on Hum TV in not-so-high budget drama serial.

Hira Mani is one of the finest actresses of Pakistan media industry. She has given a lot of big hits to her viewers. She is currently starring in Kashf and Ghalti.
When the Corona Virus Wave hit Pakistan and government announced nation wide lock done daily wagers were considered to be the most effected people. Many people came out in support of people. Many celebraties also started distributing ration among needy. Hira and Mani are one of those who started a ration campaign. They asked people for donations and started distribution of ration bags among needy.
Hira Mani in her latest video interview with Samina Peerzada talked about her charity work and said: ” Quarantine is a blessing for me, I will feel good when i will go out” said Hira Mani. “I am enjoying it and i will continue this work, this is what I wanted in life. The shine on the face of girls who came to get ration is the real achievement” told Hira Mani. “I was not enjoying getting fame. Now i will enjoy going out. Helping people by the will of Allah is what I am enjoying” Hira added further.
‘JPNA 2’ has been a huge success and JPNA team is over the moon. Humayun Saeed was interviewed today by dawn and despite being extremely tired of giving interviews he was still very charming.
Talking about Jawani Phir Nahi Ani franchise he said,
“You know after JPNA did well, everybody we’d meet would ask us for another film like that. And that’s when we decided to make a sequel, including everything that struck a chord with the audience. But we made JPNA 2 different; it was a conscious decision because no matter how great a film you make, they’ll always draw comparisons or find the first one better.”
He further added,
“It’s very difficult living up to expectations, so I’d already thought about how people might feel there’s something missing in the second part. Which is why [writer] Vasay [Chaudhry], [director] Nadeem [Beyg] and I wanted to change it a little. So we gave the audiences romance and a story as well, which is why it was slightly serious, whereas the first one was a complete comedy. But the humour, of course, has its own place!”
When asked about how he faced criticism for him still playing a ‘larka’ he said,
“The boy within me hasn’t died yet. And as long as he lives, you’ll get to see him and people will like him. I’m sure there are people out there who don’t like my work, but I would’ve been worried had they not been there. All over the world, we see heroes leading films at 60; I’m a bacha in front of them. Shah Rukh Khan, etc are about a decade older than me.”
He further added,
“Acceptance will take time here because we’re way too judgmental. [My critics] aren’t used to cinema-going, so they’re opening up now. But I guess it’s a part of our job, one has to take the bitter with the sweet, but the masses accept me and enjoy what I do, that’s all.”
When asked about how the JPNA franchise is criticized for not having substantial female roles he said,
“You see, as a producer, the story comes first for me. The concept needs to be good and I’ve always tried that all lead characters have their own space. I strongly believe that even if it’s a male-oriented story, the girl’s part can’t be completely irrelevant. Some stories, on the other hand, just happen to not have very strong female or even male roles. With the films we make, we at least try that there’s something for actors to play with.”
Talking about women abuse and the efforts he is making as a producer for women empowerment he said,
“I respect women and that’s the way it should be. Harassment does exist worldwide, and I’m completely against taking women for a ride. We all have families and I stand against harassment. Thankfully, I’m one of those people who can get along with everybody in the field and I’m friends with the women I work with, but I respect them foremost.”
Talking about the things that still excite him as an actor after being in this profession for decades he said,
“Challenges excite me! For the first five years, I was simply struggling to make a place for myself and get people to like my work. After that, you feel the need to hone your craft and polish your skills further. Then, I really wanted films to be made again. My first movie Inteha (1999) did really well but then cinema was at an all-time low.”
“Finally, Indian films started screening here and cineplexes opened up. The cinema-going audience returned and that’s when I realised I had to make my own movie. And now, I still get as nervous as a newcomer before shooting any scene; I think yeh masoomiat rehni chahiye.”
Talking about his future projects he said,
“Of course, JPNA has become a proper franchise and we’re planning on coming out with the next one in two years. For now, we’re working on two other films, one’s being written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and the other by Vasay Chaudhry.”

Humaira Arshad and Ahmed Butt have been married for many years. They also have a son from their marriage but it looks like the differences between these two which were never a secret appear to have taken a very ugly turn. Humaira Arshad always used to give hints in different shows in which the couple appeared together that Ahmed Butt wasn’t a very loyal husband but this time she called a Press Conference in which she shared everything traumatic that had happened to her in all these years of being married to Ahmed Butt.
In this Press Conference Humaira said, “Ahmed aor uske bhai aqeel butt ko bhet mertaba galat kamo me mulawwis paya lakin apni izzat ki khatir khamosh rahi hoo. Ahmed ke lerkio se talluqat hai jab bhi mene usko mana kia usne darjano baar mujhper tashadud kia aor yeh bhi dhamki di ke mai tumhare mu per tezab phenk duga. chend roz pehle wo hamare bete ko apni maa ke gher le gya aor 4 din tek waha rakha. Ab ahmed ka mutaliba hai ke mai usko 3 crore rupees du lakin ab mai uski black mailing me nahi aawgi. Ab hamare raste mukammal torper alag hai aor mai kisi terha ikhatte nahi reh sakte”.
Translation;
“I caught Ahmed and his brother Aqeel Butt involved in wrong activities many times but to save myself from embarrassment I stayed quiet. Ahmed has affairs with many girls but every time I asked him to stop he reacted by being violent and also threatened that he will throw acid on my face. Few days back he took our son to his mother’s house and did not bring him back for four days. Now Ahmed wants me to give him 3o million rupees but I am not falling for his blackmailing now. We are going our separate ways now and there is no way that we can live together now.”
This is like an official statement in which Humaira Arshad publicly declared that she could not live with Ahmed Butt anymore. Ahmed Butt talked to the press too later and said that his wife had filed a bogus case against him kidnapping his son. He also said that he did not want this marriage to end because that wouldn’t be good for his son. He also said that he was never violent with his wife. He also went on to say that he never demanded any money from his wife.
Ahmed said that Humaira Arshad and someone named Sakhi Sarwar were 50% partners in all the properties. He said that this was quite a coincidence that she started to hurl accusations at him when he objected to this.
After Naumaan Ijaz’s disappointment over this year’s LUX Style Awards became the talk of the town the actor was interviewed by different magazines to understand what disappointed him so much and Naumaan Ijaz shared one of those on his Instagram.
The Lux Style Awards are known to be the biggest award ceremony in Pakistan, meant to celebrate and honour the entertainment industry – and this year seemed no different. However, what happens when an experienced actor like Naumaan Ijaz feels dishonoured and disrespected? Are the awards then really living up to their expectations?
After the actor took to Twitter to vent out, Something Haute got in touch to hear more about his concerns.
“It’s not about the award or the trophy, it’s about respect. Why do you think so many senior artists avoid these award shows?” Naumaan said.
“It’s because they aren’t given the respect they deserve. Also, it’s not about a senior actor losing to a newcomer. I’m very happy for Ahad, he’s like a son to me and I wish him all the success to reach greater heights in his career. All I talk about is logic and common sense!”
The actor, who was nominated with Mohsin Abbas Haider, Imran Abbas, Adnan Siddiqui, and Ahad Raza Mir, felt that it isn’t right to have senior actors in the same category as budding ones.
“It’s wonderful to appreciate new talent but how about you create more categories? Line up the new boys and make them compete for best-emerging talent or for the best acting debut,”
He said,
“It will definitely be more fair and inclusive that way. But placing a newcomer in the same category as a senior who has been around for so long is just ridiculous.”

Here are a few clicks taken on the set of “Adhoori Aurat”, Have a look!
Lets us see whether the new drama helps to earn some ratings for the channel or not,
“Aangan” is a drama serial set in the pre-partition era and is directed by Ehteshamuddin while it is based on a script by Mustafa Afridi produced by MD Productions, so far Ahsan Khan and Mawra Hocane have been disclosed to lead the show.
Ahsan Khan has recently swoon not only the audience but also the industry folks with his mesmerizing performance as the pedophile “Paa Imtiaz” in Udaari. After Udaari in 2016 Ahsan has worked in two feature films Chupan Chupai and Rehbra while he has just started working on this new play named Aangan which is already on our radar of most awaited shows.
The show is in it’s production stages so the actor couldn’t say much about it albeit when asked of Aangan Ahsan had the following to add in his recent interview:
“It’s set around the time of partition, but it doesn’t deal with any social issue in particular. It’s more about people in that era. Aangan is about family and relationships.”
Ahsan also added that the main reason behind accepting this project was Ehteshamuddin, it is third collaboration between the actor and Ehstesham their previous two projects being Udaari and PreetNa Kariyo Koi, another motivation was MD Productions because they never disappoint with their choice of scripts and ideas.
“Aangan is not one of those average plays. What attracted me to come onboard was its flavour. I just run away from run-of-the-mill content, you see. I always want to do something which has not been seen or done anywhere before.”
Ahsan Khan actually has high hopes for the play and said that this show will do for our industry what Udaari did. He continued saying the following:
“Our plays get appreciated only because they have their own style. They don’t mimic anything or anyone. Similarly, Aangan is going to make people proud of our industry. It’s a play with good entertainment and it’s well made.” But more than that, the biggest reason to watch Aangan is that “It is a play that you could put in a library. It’s something to be preserved, such as classics like Daastan and Ankahi.”
I can’t speak for you guys but I am definitely boarding the hype train, we wish team Aangan all the best and anxiously await to be swooned over one more time.
At a time when all the major players in entertainment are investing their efforts and funds in the revival of Pakistani cinema it is sad to hear that a veteran writer, director and producer like Syed Noor does not have much hope for the revival of Pakistani cinema. While talking to Dawn Images Syed Noor said,
“Frankly, considering all the damage caused during the past couple of years, I have little hope for its recovery. My guess was that it might take five to seven years for it to get back on its feet. It’s a miracle what has happened during these past two years. But don’t go measuring its success ratio just now as it’s the lowest in the world. I mean to say that a constant flow of film production is necessary for the success of any film industry and the proper cultivation of cinema.”
He also said that he was offended when LSA gave him life achievement award. To him this meant that he should sit home now because there was no more room for him. Syed Noor still thinks that he has what it takes to give Pakistani cinema something people will remember for a long time because he is very creative. He said,
“I continued to accept challenges as they came along and shaped my ideas and destiny. I’m still sailing this ship. Unfortunately, my colleagues didn’t and were left behind.”
He also thinks that Pakistani film industry does not need the title of Lollywood. He said,
” It’s all a fuss. There is only Hollywood, no Bollywood or Lollywood. It should only be called the Pakistan film industry and nothing else!”
Syed Noor is still unhappy with Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for stealing his idea. The most important news he shared was as follows,
“I wrote a screenplay four years ago, keen to produce a different kind of message-oriented film. I was wondering whom to cast opposite Saima when I came across Dr. Amir Liaquat’s show and my heart said that I’d found the right man. I decided to convince him to sign my film. Initially, Amir Liaquat was reluctant to accept my offer but when I narrated the story to him, he agreed. He will be my next hero with Saima as the leading lady.”
Syed Noor said that the film will only go into the shooting phase when Aamir Liaquat is available.
Hassan Sheheryar Yasin who is more well known as HSY is a very famous designer who is not only known for his dress designs but also for his own distinguished style. HSY and his mother were interviewed by Sanam Jung on her show. HSY shared what an important role his mother – who was a single parent had played in his life. It was because of the support of his mother and sister that he managed to get this far.
HSY with his sister and mother.
HSY talked about many things about his life, his personality and his career in the show. When Sanam Jung asked him which color should a girl wearing on her wedding day. To this replied,
“Girls should only wear red color on their wedding day. Red looks the best on our girls, on our brides, it is in line with our culture and looks good with our skin tone. Many people say that red color is not part of our cultural wedding but I believe people go to weddings only to look at the bride. It is her day and she deserves to look like a princess. The look that red color can give, no other color can give.”
He also added,
“Girls nowadays think they will look fabulous in light colors but they have to realize they are not going to Oscars, they don’t have to copy Bollywood. Red is the color of our cultural wedding and it looks outstanding. This is something I am very emotional about.”
Talking about how seriously he took red color for brides, he said,
“I am not trying to make anyone feel bad about what they design but for me red is the only color for the main event of the wedding. I try to convince brides a little that they should wear red when they come to me but there is only so much I can say to convince them because in the end it is their choice. Wedding is a moment of happiness and bright colors reflect happy moments.”
HSY also had an interesting suggestion for all the other family members. He said,
“I would also like to say that close relatives (girls) should not dress up thinking that they are in competition with the bride. It is the bride’s day, let her shine, don’t try to take the attention off of her by wearing similar colors and even outfits.”
Now a days, things are like if you open any Pakistani drama channel, it is highly likely that you will bump into any drama that constitutes taalaq, halaha, extra-marital affair, beti nai beta, ameer larka, ghareeb larki, annoying saas and nand, adhuri muhabbat ,etc as the major themes. And frankly enough, we all know how much we are tired of watching these type of shows. Its high time that they should focus on producing show which appeals to a larger audience and also refresh our minds by these old-themed tiring dramas. So, in short the entertainment channels should me a mix of different things that have some substance in it. This is only way how they can attract not only ladies sitting at home, but also kids, teenagers(both boys and girls),gents, etc because naturally the dramas are not according to their taste so they find solace in the programmes offered by the channels of different countries. Now the list that I have presented below takes into handle not just the entertainment of the masses but it is also sure to bring a lot of TRPs to the channels and we are witness of it. Here it goes..
1) Travel Shows:- Like travelling to different countries. These type of shows are broadcasted all over the world and even in Pakistan, PTV tried to venture on such shows which was a good effort. These programmes are very and informative plus we get know about different cultures, religions, way of living, languages, food, architecture, history, landmarks famous personalities, etc. Most of our people cannot afford to visit foreign countries. Hence these shows provide a good chance of knowing the world around you sitting on your arm chair.
Examples: Musafir Hun Yaaron, Street Food around the World, Walking The World, etc.
2) Detective Shows:- We have many examples of such shows form India and America. The good thing about them is that they are of single-episode and provide thrill and suspense to the viewers. Story is not the regular one others so it refreshes our mind. We really need to have these kind of shows. They may also help to protect out good image of the institutions of Pakistan.
Examples: Bones, Castle, CID, Dexter, etc.
3) Quiz / Game Shows:- Now this genre is not entirely new for our channels. Many of them tried to produce such shows but unfortunately none of them could actually run for enough period of time. The reason may be their standard. As our viewers have already watched many quality shows of such other countries. They are really fun to watch and give us a great deal of knowledge as well.
Examples: The price is Right, KBC , Takeshi’s castle, The Challenge, Jeopardy Deal ya No Deal, etc.
4) Arts ‘n’ Crafts Shows:- Again many channels broadcasted these type of shows but they do not gain prominence because they were shown on less-known channels. Art is a skill that attracts many people especially the young-ones and make their time constructive which tells the importance of these shows.
Examples: M.A.D, The Joy of Painting, etc.
5) Teaching Programmes:- Now might not have come across such shows as they are quite rare. Basically in these, there are professional and highly-qualified teachers and professors who actually give lectures on televisions encompassing the wide range of subjects like physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, and etc. We can’t deny the fact that quality education is getting expensive with each passing day which further raises the importance of these programmes. Also being in the national language, they will benefit a lot of people, and best thing is that this education will be free of cost. This will no doubt be very effective.
I would like to give special mention here to “Health TV” which was launched in October, 2010. It is one of its kind channel in Pakistan and going great. It has covered just soo many aspects related to health and education. In my view, it is the most informative channels among all Pakistani channels.
Apart from this, I have also come across some literature shows on different channels like Urdu Adab, Shayri, etc. So that is also a very good initiative by those channels. Our Urdu language has such a rich heritage, it definitely deserves its own shows rather than just being preserved in libraries.
That’s about it. Do you agree with me??? These are only a few examples which I gave. Rest I leave it to you. Add any other genre which you want to see on-screen from Pakistan…
