Wasim Akram has now presented his biography Sultan A Memoir and he has revealed some stunning facts about his life which are not easy to accept and comprehend. Wasim Akram has revealed that he actually became addicted to cocaine after is cricketing career was over.

Some excerpts have come out of from his book where he shared that he became addicted cocaine and partying all day and every day after he retired in 2003. It became bad enough that he started depending on it. He even did a stint in rehab which was really bad and did not really help him. He credited his late wife Huma who actually said to him that he needed help and went on to become the reason that he pulled himself out of this mess.

Wasim revealed:

I liked to indulge myself; I liked to party. The culture of fame in south Asia is all-consuming, seductive, and corrupting. You can go to ten parties a night, and some do. And it took its toll on me. My devices turned into vices. Worst of all, I developed a cocaine dependence. It started innocuously enough when I was offered a line at a party in England; my use grew steadily more serious, to the point that I felt I needed it to function,

He said that Huma on finding out said that he needed treatment. He further added:

It made me agitated. It caused me to be deceitful. I know Huma was often lonely during this time… she talked of wanting to move to Karachi to be closer to her parents and siblings. I was hesitant. Why? Partly because I like coming to Karachi on my own and pretending it was working when it was really about partying for days on end. Huma eventually found me out, discovering a packet of cocaine in my wallet . . . ‘You need help.’ I agreed. It was getting out of hand. I couldn’t control it. One line would become two; two would become four; four would become a gram, and a gram would become two. I could not sleep. I could not eat. I grew inattentive to my diabetes, which caused me headaches and mood swings. Like many addicts, part of me welcomed discovery: the secrecy had been exhausting.

Wasim has also added that it was the fame he had before that pushed him to this:

Try as I might, part of me was still smoldering inside about the indignity of what I’d been put through. My pride was hurt, and the lure of my lifestyle remained. I briefly contemplated divorce. I settled for heading to the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy where, out from Huma’s daily scrutiny, I started using again.

Huma later died from a rare fungal infection. This made Wasim get his act together and realize what he was doing. He credits his late wife to putting his life back on track.

Huma’s last selfless, unconscious act was curing me of my drug problem. That way of life was over, and I have never looked back.

Around five months ago, Shaniera Akram took to her social media to share the news of disgusting medical waste that had been dumped at Karachi’s Sea View Beach. She said, “Our beach is a bio-hazard zone and needs to be shut down immediately. I am so sorry to the people including myself who use and love our beach but this is beyond safe.”

She started working on this and joined hands with many to clean this up. Finally, volunteers and Sindh Government collaborated and cleaned up the beach.

According to a leaked document, Wasim Akram has been appointed as the Honorary Chief Executive Officer of Careem. However, latest reports suggest that Wasim Akram is joining Careem as a CEO, but only for a single day and won’t be running the company or its operations.

On his way to Karachi National Stadium Wasim Akram’s car collided with another car and the driver of that car had an argument with the famous cricketer Wasim Akram. The driver of the car took a gun out and started firing bullets in the air. Luckily Wasim Akram escaped the attack and recorded his statement later on in National Stadium.

The police has not identified the car yet but have assured Wasim Akram that they will help him in any way possible. According to the SSP Police the youngster was most probably drunk. The Police has the registration number of the car which was involved in the incident which would help them in catching the culprits.

Wasim Akram is in a state of shock after this incident. He said that if this can happen to him then it can happen to anyone at all.

Talking about her disease, he shared that she only got a sore throat along with the kids when they came back to Lahore from a vacation in Karachi. The children recovered but she didn’t.

Wasim broke into tears as he shared that his wife never got properly diagnosed and the family got dragged from one hospital to another. He finally had to take her in an air ambulance to Singapore but she collapsed while they were refuelling in India. That is where she was taken to the ICU and finally left this mortal world.

Wasim Akram got married to his Australian  girlfriend Shaniera last year. The couple has been blessed with a beautiful baby girl who they have named Aiyla Akram. Wasim Akram already has two grown up sons from his first wife Huma who passed away few years back. Wasim Akram shared the happy news of his baby’s arrival with his fans on Twitter. The happy mother also thanked everyone for their blessings.

A video showing a man entering a studio where Wasim Akram was sitting and talking to a host in an Indian television show went viral two days back. It looked like this man entered the studio and when he approached Wasim Akram to attack him and that is when the cameras were turned off.

On a personal note, I want to say that every professional has the right to choose his/her workplace whether it is in their homeland or abroad. Two out of my three children also live and work abroad and I am unable to figure out when working abroad has been a scale to measure patriotism. Also If working or cooperating with India is unpatriotic then it should be applicable to all professionals and persons not to some specific ones. It is strange that Waseem Akram is declared unpatriotic or traitor for coaching an IPL team, but many among us also protest that why Shahid Afridi is not allowed to play in IPL (Shahid Afridi and other pakistani players have played IPL in first two seasons)??. What kind of double standard is this, where one person is declared traitor and other is praised for working in a same organization/event like IPL.

P.S. Its my personal opinion, I am not against Shahid Afridi, he is also my hero like Waseem Akram and any other cricketer
