Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 11 Review – Frightfully Engaging

Tonight’s episode of Bela Pur Ki Dayan focused more on Aziz and his encounters with Neelo unlike before when the other characters in the story were being given more attention. Everything which the viewers saw tonight, once again suggested that either there was a huge misunderstanding between Aziz and Neelo or Aziz really had done something terrible in the past. Neelo kept on calling Aziz a murderer but right now even with his shady personality, Aziz doesn’t appear to be someone who would kill a relative in cold blood. It is interesting how the story has taken off at this point when most of the writers start loosing their grip on the story. Inam Hasan’s script so far relies on real horror and has tons of mystery. The writer is in no rush to reveal the real story behind everything which is happening in the present day which makes this drama even more enticing. This drama does not rely on cheap tactics to attract the viewers but has substance which is the reason why it is more appealing today than it was few weeks back. Saife Hasan’s direction never falters which is definitely a big reason why this drama is different as well as more impressive than all the horror dramas which have been made by Pakistani drama makers so far. Great production values are an added bonus without which the overall feel of the play wouldn’t have been the same!

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 11 Review - Frightfully Engaging

Rameez and Gainda are finally out of jail but clearly they have a solid reason to be more confused than before. They went out looking for answers but now they have more questions in their minds, the answers of which are not going to be easy to find since everyone has their own version of the past. I have to say that I am missing the other ghost in the story – Aziz’s mother – since she always did whatever she could to protect her son’s family. Ever since she is out of the picture Neelo has done a great deal of damage. Neelo is unstoppable at the moment and she has set up her trap intelligently. Neelo’s encounter with Aziz were terrifying, the background score and the perfect lighting yet again contributed to the overall impact these scenes had. Amar Khan’s chilling performance has been the highlight of this drama right from the time the dayan came into the picture. Neelo’s character in the present-day obviously is completely different from what she used to be in the past, yet Amar Khan is exceptionally likable in one and extremely frightening in the other!

With the exception of the last scene from the back story, the rest of the episode was picture perfect. The last scene made me wonder whose “version” of the past this was! This recent development in the story however was surprising since I was expecting Neelo’s father to be the samaj ki dewar! He seemed quite happy that Neelo had found the perfect partner therefore I am waiting to see who changed Neelo’s happy ending into an unforgettable tragedy.

This episode of Bela Pur Ki Dayan was entertaining, technically impressive, and frightening. You know a drama has your undivided attention and is a winner when you are equally interested in all the characters and their stories.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Best Celebrity Insta Accounts

Gone are the days when you needed hard work and actual talent and loads of luck to make it and survive in the entertainment industry if you had no contacts or enough money but not anymore. In today’s world internet is the only power we bow to, it is the only language we speak and understand these days. We have seen internet make chai walas celebrities we have also seen internet turn Patari’s CEO’s stardom to dust. The point being your social media presence is everything these days.

Having a social media presence is as important for celebrities these days as having an agent once was. Though anyone with a fair amount of followers can call themselves a celebrity these days and that paves way for mediocrity to be bred but it has also opened a gateway to an industry of dreams that once seemed far away. Just take that phone of yours make a video, write a script, make a web series, write a book, make a blog and gain audience and you will make it, it is not as painstakingly arduous as it once was. The ball is now in the common man’s court make your move.

As it is with power that comes huge responsibility so is the case with stardom, the more influence you have over people the more you need to be careful as to how you use that influence. That being said today we talk about some of the Pakistani celebrity Instagram accounts that I find super interesting and you should definitely follow them if you don’t already.

8: Sheheryar Munawar

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh_CPomn5Pm/?taken-by=sheheryarmunawar

I have always liked Sheheryar apart from the fact he is an amazing actor and is super hot he also has a very interesting Instagram presence or I should say social media presence. I have never seen him get involved in controversies, he keeps his political views to himself which is a rare spectacle these days. My favorite Sheheryar is vacation Sheheryar, when this dude is on his vacations it is the best time for his Instagram, amazing pictures with hilarious captions. The world could be falling and this dude would be talking about how focus is needed to squeeze a lemon. Basically if you follow him he will always put a smile on your face always.

7: Ahmad Ali Butt

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh9Q4wNl0Qe/?taken-by=ahmedalibutt

Everyone knows Ahmad is a funny guy but more than that he is a selfie guy, a selfie here a selfie there, a selfie with Karachi Kings a selfie with team JPNA 2 basically if Ahmad is there a selfie can’t be far behind. Once in a while uses his influence to voice his opinions as well but mostly maintains a light mood hilarious persona. A random clip of him dancing can help forget for a nano-second that you were having a bad day I believe that accounts for something.

6: Saba Qamar

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh01HdDnXTD/?taken-by=sabaqamarzaman

She is talented she is gorgeous and she is strong headed. From her beautiful face that you get to see if you follow her to her strong opinions on gender equality this woman earns her followers. Also she has a gorgeous cat so all the cat people go show that cat some love. Once in while she shares her family moments as well which are precious. She can be so sassy at times and I love that also did I mention the cat? So yeah cat, opinions and beauty go hit that follow button already.

5: Osman Khalid Butt

https://www.instagram.com/p/BhW9hxyjr3x/?taken-by=aclockworkobi

Gorgeous, sassy and opinionated no I am not describing a diva it’s good ol’ OKB we are talking about tho he is not less than any diva. Personally not a huge fan of his acting but a huge fan of his Instagram. Let controversy come this man is never quiet, a strong supporter of women empowerment and very vocal about his other political views as well. Hilarious, classy and knows how the social media game works. Also just look at his username who doesn’t love A CLOCKWORK ORANGE!

4: Armeena Khan

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh3a7HoHo1K/?taken-by=armeenakhanofficial

Armeena is more of a kabhi neem neem kabhi shahad shahad deal. There are days when she is as wise as an old oak tree who can talk and there are days when she is downright teen queen of only seventeen either way qualifies for interesting social media presence. Vocal but a little too vocal sometimes but her Instagram is mostly sunny, good vibes and positivity all the way, 10/10 will recommend.

3: Sanam Saeed

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bg02oTLlO2g/?taken-by=sanammody

Sanam is downright my favorite woman in our entertainment industry right now, talented, strong and beautiful. Now adays her Instagram is mostly about Cake promotions and damn it she looks breathtakingly gorgeous at every event. Shares pictures of things she finds interesting be it a vintage store in London or Karachi’s night view from the sky, one of the very few aesthetically pleasing accounts.

2: Ali Kazmi

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgkVWHPFtEE/?taken-by=thealikazmi

Ali Kazmi in the houseeeee guyssss. One of my only three favorite Instagramers first one being Tom Hardy of course and the second one you will find out shortly. Ali is a family guy I mean just look at the man’s dp. He is vocal and he captures the moment. One of the very few celebrities who step out of their own stardom and look around and capture whatever looks beautiful. The kinda soul that finds time to appreciate the moon and the sealing of a museum. If that doesn’t work for you he just happens to be very hot as well, go follow.

1: Adeel Hussain

https://www.instagram.com/p/BhQhFfKFc2V/?taken-by=vizorkaneda

Adeel Hussain ladies and germs, the man, the myth. It is like that famous quote goes I too fall in love with people who show me a little bit of their soul. In this world so perfectly guarded I appreciate rawness. Following Adeel feels like following any other friend, he shares his pictures from his college days to his childhood to his artwork from his teenage years WHO DOES THAT! Captures so many beautiful things, random people, random places and even shows the other side of the story by capturing his other colleagues from entertainment industry in the light he himself sees them. Such a a kindled spirit with the soul of a true artist. Don’t miss out on this dude’s insta folks.

That sums up my list which is totally based on my preferences, if you have your own list of favorite celebrity Instagram accounts do share it with me I don’t want to miss out on any cool insta accounts.

Visaal Episode 5 Review – Very Interesting!

Ohkay so, this episode of Visaal was quite interesting. As the story is progressing, I am liking it more & more. The way the story is being told is simple but super interesting & the characters are very simple too but the overall execution of this drama makes it a worth-watch.

Akram was on the hunt for finding a perfect Bhabhi for himself, someone who could help him in getting closer to Pari. Akram’s choice was obviously unique but he knew that that’s where he will get the lady that he was looking for & the people at that end will do as he says once given the money. Yasmeen’s character was quite interesting & made quite an impression in the introduction. I really hope she plays an important part & saves the girl whose life is at stake!

Well, the news already made it to Shabbir’s work place & people started talking that Taimur was being too generous & friendly when it came to Shabbir. It was sad that even Pari’s name was being dragged but then again, those were not just mere rumors as this was Taimur’s intention behind getting closer to Shabbir. To add more to it Taimur also invited Shabbir & Pari to his house to get to know them on a personal level & to make some ties with them as well.

Pari resisted but she gave in & visited Taimur. Pari isn’t oblivious of Taimur’s intentions & even though she is keeping her sweet distance, she still understands all of his hints. Taimur left quite a good impression on Naheed & Jumman Bua too that is why she couldn’t stop praising him in front of Ghufran’s wife.

Well, what Naheed did was something that I just didn’t see coming but let me just say, it was a perfect twist & I guess much needed to in this simple one-tracked story. Naheed couldn’t resist getting jealous of her friend & even though she tried to get friendly with Taimur, she was hurt & upset when she saw that he was totally into Pari & couldn’t stop talking about her.

What Naheed did like writing a letter to Taimur posing to be Pari & then locking the gate once he was inside was shocking. Obviously the dynamics of the story will change but the thing that I will be sad to see the most is a strain in Pari & Shabbir’s relationship. It would be quite upsetting because obviously their father-daughter relationship was so sweet & just perfect but now it will go through a bad phase, all because of Naheed. I must say that though the things are for worse but is it good that there is more to Naheed’s character!

Overall, it was an amazing episode. All the characters have their thing happening & there is so much that they are going to offer. I think Taimur will be turned down by Shabbir even when he will approach him for Pari’s proposal & that’s when Akram will come in the picture & in Pari’s life too. The direction & the acting is top-notch. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the drama. Please share your thoughts.

Aangan Episode 25 Review – Perfectly Woven Suspense!

Oh well, Iet’s just say that I am more interested in talking about the note at which the episode ended in stead of talking about the Sadaan Afrah Nikkah. I am glad that it is done with & I also enjoyed this episode because it had quite a lot of those moments, those arguments, bickering, one-liners that made us fall in love with Aangan in the first place!

Asim convinced Sajjad but then again, Sajjad being the emotional one had to give in because he feels for his Sadaan & Shaina’s likes & dislikes differently than Hajra. Sajjad obviously knew that Hajra won’t let him go off the hook after she will find out, that is why he made a pact with Sadaan that he will protect his father when the secret will be revealed. I must say, Asim used the right word; ‘dictatorship’ when it came to describing the tactics Hajra had used for parenting. I am glad it didn’t take it quite a lot to convince Sajjad because Asim had a valid argument & Sadaan had his reasons.

I loved Allauddin’s entry at the right time, he tried really hard to get to the crux of the situation but then again, because he was being unnecessarily nice that too probably for the first time, his ego was hurt when his generosity was turned down & surprise surprise, he made sure that Anila blew things out of proportion. Zaitoon’s suggestion ke Allauddin ke liye jaloos nikalainge was epic, lol!

Well, Sadaan & Afrah got married in the presence of Sajjad. I mean his entry in such an attire went so well with his image, it told a tale of the storm he came out of in order to attend this family affair because facing Hajra, avoiding her & not spilling the beans was not an easy feat. I loved the car scene because it was obvious that it was Noor ul Hassan who was handling the camera, there were some candid moments, like there was something just so raw, so so natural about that entire scene which I loved!

Well, finally, Sadaan’s Chachi was revealed & let’s just say, massive props to both the writer & the director for making sure no one could find out who she was married to – even now. I am sure by now everyone must be guessing & coming up with their opinions but I am glad that they still kept things ambiguous & left it on us to do the guess-work – at least for another week. The way both Zahid & Asim relaxed on the sofa the moment they entered that house showed that they both frequented that place quite often. Asim & Zahid both gave her a warm smile, showing they both were very comfortable with her. The way Zahid stood next to her showed that he was pretty friendly but that woman was smiling at Asim, so my bet is that she is Asim’s wife & it seemed that Zahid was not introducing her as his wife but more as Asim’s. I don’t know but seeing the submissiveness of Asim towards Laila; not doing anything that might upset her & following her lead every single time might be a cover to never give her the impression that he was disloyal to her. But then again, if I recall everything, it also suggests that she could he Zahid’s wife as Laila’s friend said that she has seen him there. Also, Zahid used to go away for days, so may be he was nurturing this relationship in that time span. Oh well, it just goes to show that Faiza Iftikhar has weaved this scenario very carefully with a lot of caution to pull the mind-strings of the viewers. Please take a bow for a job well done. Loved every bit of it but then I hope there’s a solid justification behind this 2nd marriage that either Asim or Zahid went for. Please share your thoughts.

Tabeer Episode 10 Review – Depressing!

This episode of Tabeer was pretty depressing. I am not sure what the writer was trying to achieve by killing one character after another in this drama. Seeing the promo of the next episode frustrated me because I don’t really see why killing Tabeer’s son was so necessary to move things forward? Yes, when it came to Tabeer & Fawad’s spouses, it was obvious that they had to die so that the story could progress, but literally showing this now is extreme!

While watching this episode, I could see that just because Tabeer & Fawad were in a same boat, they were being able to relate to & understand each other’s perspectives, which was obviously nice for both of them & was also playing an important part in helping them both overcome their sorrow but the turn that the story is now going to take is not giving me much courage to tune to this show again!

Tabeer missed her child & she wanted to see him but the thought of leaving Fawad’s child behind stopped her. Even though she came to see her child but sadly, it was too late.

Once again, like I mentioned in the previous review, there was no need for Daadi to take Tabeer’s child with her. Also, I don’t think anyone can stay so oblivious to someone’s nature, like no one in their family especially Asma who has been married to Ajju’s brother knows what sort of a person Ajju is. To trust him with the child & not going to the doctor with him is pretty unconvincing because usually the woman who is taking care of the child makes sure to go to the doctor herself in order to find out every little detail about what’s wrong with the child & what can be done to treat him. It was totally unconvincing that both Daadi & Asma just stayed at home & gave the baby to Ajju & what happened after that is depressing!!! Anyways, please share your thoughts.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Last Episode Review – Tear-Jerkingly Beautiful

This last episode covered a great deal from the complications of arranged marriages to the limitations of a joint family system. It also showed how far Sila and Sadia had come and how things had changed in Noor Manzil. Every single scene in tonight’s episode was beautifully penned down and executed perfectly. It is definitely the kind of episode which I will be watching again a few times. I will not give the details away about the ending because all of you who are following the show should watch it yourself. It is really difficult to pick a favorite scene from this last episode because there were so many scenes which were tear-jerkingly beautiful.

Thought provoking, gripping, intense and disturbing – dramas like Dar Si Jati Hei Sila don’t just happen overnight but a great deal of hard work goes into making them a success. This drama artfully and unapologetically highlighted many important issues which are most often brushed under the carpet or are not dealt with too seriously. The best part of this drama was that it had so many important messages for the victims as well as for the abusers! The writer Bee Gul’s layered and meaningful script coupled with Kashif Nisar’s immaculate direction and some of the most impressive performances by all the actors involved made this drama one of those very few plays which have a lasting impression.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Last Episode Review - Tear-Jerkingly Beautiful

Nauman Ijaz’s solid performance was the highlight of this show. Yumna Zaidi translated a difficult character faultlessly on screen; Sila hardly had any dialogues but it was never difficult connecting to her character because Yumna Zaidi’s expressions and body language always conveyed whatever Sila was going through. Saman Ansari’s brilliant performance as a woman who was always misunderstood and who had to fight all her battles alone made Sadia’s journey emotionally involving. Zaini’s character was refreshing and it had a lingering impact. Her character was beautifully etched-out and Aamna Malick’s performance was phenomenal throughout. Raheel’s character too was equally positive as well as interesting. Usama Tahir portrayed this character convincingly even though it went through different stages but his portrayal was always effortless. Sheikh Mubashar was well-suited for Hatim’s role and even though this was his first television appearance he never failed to impress. Although, Hatim didn’t get a lot of screen time but his story was poignant throughout and important as well. Sakina Samo was superb as Bari Aapa, I absolutely loved her in this character right from the first episode. Her style of acting was completely in line with the character she was playing. Kiran Haq deserves a special mention for nailing her character and turning things around. Munazzah Arif, Noor-ul-Hassan and Saleem Sheikh also gave solid and realistic performances throughout.

A big thanks to all those wonderful people who read the reviews every week and shared their thoughts in the comments section. This entire experience of watching and reviewing Dar Si Jati hei Sila wouldn’t have been the same without you all. Do share your thoughts about this last episode and also about the drama as a whole.

Lashkara Episode 4 Review – Power-Packed Performances!

Ohkay so, this episode of Lashkara was amazing. The way the story is progessing with so many intricacies is commendable & the way the director is bringing every little detail into the limelight, that too at the right time is sheer brilliance.

Who would have thought that the sight of seeing her father getting insulted & her brother emerging as a culprit will shake Bubbly to such an extreme that she will end up forsaking her biggest dream – her marriage to her ideal partner only to prove to be the saving grace of her family.

For the first time it seemed that Kulsoom was disappointed in Bubbly after the show Sunny put up at her house but I loved the way Muneer intervened & told her to let Bubbly be. Sadly, the loan sharks came looking for Iqbal & that entire fiasco further convinced Bubbly to do what it takes to save her family because she knew that Feeka’s mother Nasreen could definitely help them financially as this is what she promised while putting forth Bubbly’s proposal because I believe being their ex-neighbor, Nasreen was pretty well-aware of their financial condition & restraints too.

Well, Sunny decided to approach Feeka in order to intimidate him & to talk him out of his idea of marrying Bubbly. Sunny obviously thought that Bubbly rejected him because she was being pressurized by her family to say yes to Feeka’s proposal but Sunny obviously has no idea about the reasons why Bubbly refused him & has said yes to Feeka. I loved the way Nikki fought with Sunny while Feeka stood their silently, without any courage to speak up for himself. It was so amusing that when Sunny left after saying so much, that was when Feeka finally spoke like a man & dissed him.

Nikki obviously has clear issues with Bubbly but oh my, I must say, my favoriteee scene of this entire episode was when Nasreen shared her opinion about Bubbly & those guys who claimed to be her admirers. I love that Nasreen has this confidence, she is this self-sufficient woman who knows how everything has to be approached, that is why in stead of saying things about Bubbly, she spoke through her perspective in front of her own daughter. I am not sure if Nasreen’s interest in Bubbly is only because she is Feeka’s lady love or there’s something more to it. Definitely looking forward to find that out.

Nikki confronted Bubbly & she knew that Nikki was not going to go easy on her. Even though for the time being Bubbly dealt with her but she knows it is going to be a long battle. Bubbly & Feeka got engaged & even though it was Sunny whose heart broke & he even got insulted, there was also Nazeer who tried to play his little part too in order to stop this marriage from happening but alas! He is in no position to do anything! Masoom.

Bubbly ended things with Sunny but obviously he is not going to settle for no as an answer. It looks like this has turned into an ego issue fot him too but then he could also see that even Bubbly wasn’t too overjoyed & she was just compromising, though she may not see it. I loved that even Saima tried to play her part but Bubbly had a bigger picture in mind!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode as it was filled with power-packed performances. The story obviously has a lot more to offer & I can not wait to see it all. Brilliant acting by every single actor there. Loving this drama so far. Please share your thoughts.

Khasara Episode 3 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode of Khasara took the story forward but still there is nothing new or refreshing about this drama. Yes, they are trying hard to show something huge but the overall feel of the drama isn’t too appealing but having said that, I will mention that the direction of this drama is definitely good, despite such a been-there-seen-that story, the director has done his part well!

Sila finally blackmailed her husband Moanis to take her & the kids to Karachi & he obliged. Obviously, Sila played a good trick on him & because Moanis is a loving husband, he couldn’t say no. Sila prepared some gifts for Linta but it is sad that during her stay, Sila couldn’t see Linta’s cold attitude. Sila went out of the way to arrange something for her to make her happy but she is mistaken. Well, Moanis contacted Mohtasim & he welcomed him wholeheartedly!

Well, Linta finally caught Arzoo & Mohtasim red-handed. Linta had her informer in the office who let her know what was going on. That entire scene of Linta walking in to see Mohtasim & Arzoo in such condition was cringe-worthy & a bit too bold to grasp! Well, Linta created a mayhem but then it looks like she just took Mohtasim with her in order to give him a chance again because she is either too weak or loves him unconditionally to let go of him despite knowing ths truth that he is a cheater.

Sila & Co. reached Mohtasim’s place & I am sure Sila will only be disappointed because the timing isn’t right & Linta’s world has turned upside down. I think seeing Linta’s behavior, Sila will mistakenly start seeing Mohtasim as a victim & will sympathize with him, which will take the story forward from that note. I will see for a couple of weeks more, if there is nothing that further grabs my attention then I will probably stop reviewing this drama. Anyways, please share your thoughts!

Actor Mustafa Ali Khan Proposes #MeToo For Men

You might have seen Mustafa along side Osman Khalid Butt and Ainy Jaffri in Balu Mahi. Mustafa came up with the idea for a campaign #MeToo but for men and it definitely isn’t what you think it is.

He isn’t suggesting a campaign that supports men who have been sexually abused or harassed when he says #MeToo for men he means that all men acknowledge that too are a part of this epidemic.

In his Facebook post he said,

“Every single man is guilty. Guilty of perpetuating this environment where EVERY woman feels unsafe. I too am guilty.”

Actor Mustafa Ali Khan Proposes #MeToo For Men

He continued,

“I, too, have made women feel unsafe. I have always been careful in how I treat every woman I interact with. I know I am guilty of, in one way or another, making them feel unsafe. So yeah, #MeToo.”

He further added,

“I am guilty of ogling or staring at women – sometimes long enough to make them uncomfortable. #MeToo.”

He added that ‘men will be men’ is the part of the problem,

“I am deeply ashamed of my actions and my inaction. I apologise to every woman who has ever felt uncomfortable or unsafe around me. And I promise, I will try to be a better human being.”

The actor concludes by explaining that this is not a debate about “feminism, sexism, or any other ‘ism’”, but rather about being better human beings.

Khamoshi Episode 29 Review-Atif Got Levelled!

0

I know when it is the 29th episode of a drama and things are still at a place where they were in the 16th or 17th episode, no one can be happy. But I have decided to be happy with this episode because as you read the title, Atif got levelled by Arsala. If you couldn’t believe it the first time, here I write it again in capital letters: ATIF GOT LEVELLED BY ARSALA! It was a surprise to see the Khamosh larki finally using her tongue, an organ she had sworn she would never use. She insulted him the way he deserved to get insulted and threw him out of her office. A good scene to watch which made the other useless and some horrible scenes of the episode tolerable. Now, let’s talk about stuff which was difficult to handle:

I am not able to understand one thing, Shahram is a billionaire, he is humble and handsome. He knows how to run the world then why he could never figure out how to get a girl and everyone in the city is busy searching a perfect dulhan for him. First, it was Nasreen who was worried for his dulhan. Then Bee Jaan was setting him up with Arsala after she found out about his slight interest and now Tahseen is yelling ke woh Shahram ke liye achi larki nahin hai. Why do these ladies not let him on his own? That’s how maybe he starts using his senses which have gone missing since his meeting with Arsala.

Khamoshi Episode 29 Review-Atif Got Levelled!

The other thing that REALLY bothered me was Bee Jaan’s track. They have filmed it in such a horrible way and the repetition of the track, again and again, is not helping. The constant BED NUMBER 4!!! She is in an old-age home not in a prison. Yes, these places are not really homy always and many of the people experience very hard times but still, it is not like the whole administration just keeps standing on your head calling you bed number 4 and saying bad stuff about you.

Iqra Aziz’s track has gotten lost in the drama somewhere. She just comes repeat the old scenes and goes back to do some other of her project. Her character is not even moving towards a conclusion and same is the case with the mother. It is episode 29 and there is no change in her behaviour either. The next episode is going to be the repetition of this episode with of course not a single new scene as is depicted by the preview.

Let’s wait and maybe we could see Naima’s devastation in 2019!

Woh Mera Dil Tha Episode 6 Review – Match Made In Hell!

This latest episode of Woh Mera Dil Tha had another unexpected and important development to its credit which changed the direction of the story completely. I am wondering why a lame drama like Noor-ul-Ain has been given the 8pm slot and Woh Mera Dil Tha which is far better has been given the 9pm slot! Woh Mera Dil Tha isn’t faultless but it is definitely far more interesting that Noor-ul-Ain which has absolutely no story or direction!

Even after all the planning and convincing Zaid could not escape the situation he had put himself into because of Arham. Arham pulled back from his commitment as well as his relationship with Naina but somehow Naina didn’t even try to tell her father the truth. Zaid however did whatever he could to tell his father that this was a big misunderstanding but ultimately had to give in. Although this entire situation was really serious but somehow I found it amusing! Since Zaid had planned all this, it looked like he was paying for being over smart and for trying to outsmart everyone else! This episode as a whole however could have been even more entertaining if like the previous episode some of the scenes were not dragged. The flashback scenes were used effectively in this recent episode since they helped the viewers understand why Arham ultimately backed off. This particular development was shown convincingly and it was startling.

Woh Mera Dil Tha Episode 6 Review - Match Made In Hell!

Right from the first episode I was wondering how these two people who simply couldn’t stand each other will ultimately end up together. That mystery has been solved tonight and now I am eagerly waiting to see how Zaid in particular will handle this situation. It will be interesting watching Naina and Zaid grow as individuals as well as partners. Even when Arham didn’t turn up and Naina was heart broken, Zaid didn’t give her a lot of concession which basically shows that he is definitely not the kind of person whose heart will melt watching a girl in distress or crying. Zaid was also shown resisting this nikkah more aggressively than Naina did which makes this entire situation even more interesting! Zaid is allergic to commitments too therefore it is impossible to tell how he will treat Naina once they enter into a nikkah. The fact that Naina was his best friend’s girlfriend for the longest time definitely doesn’t help. These two can easily pass as a match made in hell.

The latest turn in the story has made this drama even more interesting and I can’t wait to watch what happens next! Some of the scenes and situations tonight weren’t convincing enough but overall it was an entertaining episode which gave me a reason to look forward to more! Sami Khan and Madiha Imam’s remarkable performances were the highlight of this latest episode. The preview of the next episode however was a little too elaborate especially given the fact that right now we were all supposed to be wondering whether these two will ultimately get married or not!

How many of you watched this latest episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Noor ul Ain Episode 11 Review – Dry & Drier!

Ohkay so, another week, another boring episode of Noor ul Ain. I am not sure what is to be blamed, the writing, the direction, the overall scenario or the half-dead characters. If there’s one word that fits this drama, it is DRY & unfortunately, it keeps on getting drier, even more drier than my freshly done laundry!

Khizar’s be-naam amman jaan came to see both Noor & Khizar & what she said to Noor was spot on. I mean I am sure even she was frustrated at Noor like we all are so she decided to do the honors & ask Noor the obvious question that what did she see in Khizar & most importantly, how did she start trusting him so much that she decided to get married to him after meeting him twice? I guess the writer should have been a little more respectful towards Marina Khan because when an actor of her stature is working in your drama, you should at least give her character a name? What is her name? Does anyone know? This is the second mystery, first one being Noor’s decision of estranging her family to be with Khizar, the guy she just met & got married but can’t even smile while looking at him!?!?!

Sofie was wailing about her phooti kismat but then again, her mother seemed pretty calm. I must say Tanveer Fatima’s calm after the storm has left me scratching my head, she seems in a very comfortable zone after whatever has happened with Noor? So much so that even the bad news from Sofie’s in laws side didn’t shock her enough!

Well, now that Khizar & Noor are married, I will honestly say that I couldn’t see them as a husband & wife, like there is no connection, no spark, no chemistry, absolutely nothing between them to make them look like a couple. I am sure this has to do with Noor’s poker face, I get it, she is a practical, bongi, serious sort of a girl but even then no one is devoid of basic emotions like happiness or satisfaction? Noor’s confessions to Khizar sounded so half hearted as if she was just delivering the dialogues without any emotions or feelings. Also, her confession came as a surprise because she claimed that Khizar had done so much for her emotionally but then where are those emotions? Why can’t we see them? Why?

To me Noor & Khizar seemed like a sibling duo who were now living in a hostel, away from their parents to make a living in the city. I wish Sarmad had directed Sajal to smile a bit because it wouldn’t have harmed anyone & would’ve definitely given me a reason to look at the TV screen for a brief moment & not at the ceiling which I usually stare at when Noor ul Ain is airing. Even though both Imran & Sajal made some contact like side hugs & holding hands but even that didn’t help much to give them an overall vibe of a couple – all thanks to our flat-faced Noor!

As if things weren’t dry enough that they decided to play that weird OST during the 2 minute long scene where Noor & Khizar were doing grocery shopping? I mean I was low-key amused & also cringing that this was the love story we were being made to watch where now we’d have to derive some sweetness out of such a boring scene of seeing a couple doing their groceries? LOL!

Khizar has been making some really tall claims like giving Noor her dream house & doing everything for her but where he should have started doing something straight away, he is arranging loans & depending on his friends for everything? Hmmmm…!

Well, obviously the writer had to bring Noor in front of her parents, so he decided to turn Kashi, a harmless soul into a thief to create that scenario. Really there was absolutely no need for all of this because Noor has left her family & vice versa, so! I wish in stead of wasting energies on side tracks & characters, the writer had put some personality, some depth, some emotions in the main leads because that would’ve done wonders to this drama & had taken it to a whole new level. Anyways, please share your thoughts.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Also, a Tip for ARY: Please start airing Noor ul Ain’s Double Episodes so that we can get over with this drama ASAP!

Ayesha Omar Says She Has Been A Victim Of Harassment In The Industry

In the wake of #MeToo there’s a wave of women coming out with harassment stories and Ayesha Omar is one of them. She didn’t exactly accuse a certain someone of sexually harassing her but she admitted that she has been sexually harassed in the industry numerous times. Talking about the Meesha-Ali controversy she said,

“If a person has collected the strength to speak up about an injustice or something that has been bothering her or has been in her heart for a while, the way we, as a nation react, the way we slander, negate and we are so in utter denial of it is disturbing,”

Ayesha Omar Says She Has Been A Victim Of Harassment In The Industry

The ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ starlet expressed her inability to share her own experiences due to a lack of strength to discuss it at this time.

“I hope, someday I have the strength and I am brave enough to talk about it but when people like Meesha or others who have the courage to speak up against harassment are accused of trying to pull publicity stunts.”

She continued,

“The initial reactions to Meesha’s statement were that she was doing it for money or publicity but what publicly is she to gain out of accusing somebody of harassing her. All publicity is not good publicity and she is only gaining negative publicity out of this. All she is getting is vulgar comments, angry comments, and accusations. I know she is a strong, bold and outspoken woman and she will not stand any injustice…she will speak up about it.”

She further exerted how important it is for everyone to have examples of strong women like Meesha who help others find their voice too,

“It has taken Meesha so long to speak about something that has been happening since years and she didn’t have the strength to talk about it, so think about all those women who go through sexual harassment on a daily basis and they don’t have the strength and courage to talk about it publicly or in their families.”

In response to a question about Ali Zafar’s response to the matter, Ayesha said the singer has the right to deny anything said against him if there is no proof of it.

“If someone says something about me tomorrow, I will also deny it, but it doesn’t mean that the honesty or intentions of a person talking about an experience they have undergone should be doubted.”

Meesha Shafi Opens Up On Harassment

Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar controversy is making headlines these days, in an interview with Instep the Aya Lariye singer opened up about harassment issue.

Speaking about how it was weighing on her conscience and how she needed to talk about it she said,

“The first and foremost reason [for breaking silence] is that I’m ready. I have started talking to people and divulging my experience. I’m finding it hard on my conscience to stay silent any longer than this because I’m seeing such brave girls and women speaking up – not just around the world – but here as well.”

Referring to the girls who spoke being harassed by former Patari CEO Khalid Bajwa, she added,

“I have to say, by the way, I salute these girls. It’s not easy. They are not public figures and I think it can be harder for me, in a way, but it’s hard for everyone. The more I think about it, the more I realise that if I don’t go public, nothing will change. It was eating away at me.”

Meesha Shafi Opens Up On Harassment

Being the mother of two, a boy and a girl, she has been teaching her kids about good touch and bad touch these days and to talk to her if anyone touches them inappropriately. She said that teaching them about all this while she kept silent when these things happen to her as an adult was gnawing at her,

“I am telling my children how important it is to speak up, so it was getting difficult for me to stay silent knowing that it was not accidental or subtle.”

Meesha Shafi Opens Up On Harassment

Meesha recalled that the harassment wasn’t about a hug that went on for too long, a greeting that went on for a little too long or a lingering handshake.

“Women who feel that that’s inappropriate and speak-up and feel harassed, that is absolutely their right and not to take away anything from them in any way but it was more than that and that people need to know.”

She continued,

“The first time it happened, I didn’t react and just left. I told my husband but also asked him to not react; I’m a public figure and so is he [Ali Zafar]. My thought process was who I am and who he is and what that’s going to lead to. Being ready to talk was far off because it had just happened. I buried it.”

Meesha Shafi Opens Up On Harassment

But it happened again late last year or last quarter of last year. And in both instances, they were not alone. The second time it happened in a jam room. she said,

“I got booked for a concert,”

She and Ali Zafar were billed to perform on the same concert. When asked why she said agreed to perform with him, she said:

“It is my bread and butter, it was work coming my way.”

Meesha Shafi Opens Up On Harassment

It eventually resulted in them preparing a song that they could perform together.

“I was jamming with my band in Lahore and the organisers insisted that he was trying to get in touch. It started turning into a thing, and I was being seen as difficult or a diva, I got such feelers. I was avoiding him. I was asked to jam, figure out songs, scale and it happened while we were jamming.”

The singer remarked that ever since she went public with the story a burden has been lifted. she added,

“It is liberating, it’s empowering and it’s not the end of the world. I only felt hesitant as long as I hadn’t told anyone. The more people I tell, the more power I feel. I do. That has been my direct experience in the case. I’ve done the thing I feared and I’ve taken the leap of faith. And you know what, it’s okay,”

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

The dramas usually get famous for the performances our favourite actors do or the chemistry between the lead pair. But mostly they get famous for the uniqueness of their scripts. A good actor/actress knows how to select the script which has that oomph that finally makes the audience tune into a channel week after week. These are the artists that finally start being counted in the most successful actors’ department because they know what to select and what can take their crafts to look the best on screen. Here are a few of them:

Noman Ijaz:

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

Noman Ijaz has the best eye for picking up unique stories. We have seen him give hits after hits for years which involve his versatility as well as his choice of good scripts. He has done all kinds of roles from a quiet guy torn between two women and kind of afraid of his wife in Barri Aapa and at the same time he played a feudal lord in the ground-breaking Mera Saayein. Noman Ijaz has a nick for good scripts. Sang e Mar Mar, Dumpukht, Shayad and Darr Si Jati Hai Sila are the latest additions which show how he can see the wow charm of a script. He has proven his talent of choosing the best over and over and this is what has made him the most successful actor in the drama industry.

Sami Khan:

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

It is not wrong to say that currently, Sami Khan is the champion of selecting the best scripts. He knows what will work for the audience and it has become the reason that he is giving back to back hits and performances that really are working for everyone. His role in Be Inteha, the intriguing factor there was in Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua, the sensitivity in Aisi Hai Tanhai, the complications of Khudgarz, he has really mastered the craft of settling for the best scripts and consequently, he is the part of many top hits right now.

Yumna Zaidi:

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

Yumna has really joined the league of the most refined actresses and all thanks to her strong performances as well as a bold choice of scripts. She has proved again and again that she is here to stay with the kind of choices she is making. Ye Raha Dil made us look at her in a new light. She looked smart, modern and confident and then she chose a totally different script which is a difficult choice I must say and that’s Darr Si Jaati Hai Sila. To play a sensitive character like that after a light-hearted Ye Raha Dil was a great move. Her Pukar has also proven to be quite engaging.

Ayeza Khan:

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

Ayeza is a champion with scripts. Yes, she is an exceptional actress but honestly, I’ll attribute her success more towards her talent with her eyes for the better script. She beautifully understands her audiences’ psyche and works according to that. She once hit a phase where she was playing a roti dhoti larki again and again but she pulled herself out of it and has never looked back since she has started making extremely intelligent choices in her career. Pyaare Afzal, Tum Kon Piya, Mohabbat Tum Se Nafrat Hai, Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua, all have struck a chord with the audience not just because of the performances but also because they were incredible stories.

Imran Abbas:

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

Many would say that his looks are his superpower but honestly, the guy has the best senses when it comes to selecting a good script and he has proved it over and over in the past years. Even in the very start when he was not the biggest star, he knew what will be the hit. Alvida, Dil e Muzter, Khuda Aur Mohabbat, Mohabbat Tum Se Nafrat Hai, Yaar e Bewafa and Mera Naam Yousuf Hai are just a few of his choices which show his prowess for picking the good scripts. Even if his performance goes lower in any of his dramas, the scripts are so good that the audience ends up not noticing.

Saba Qamar:

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

Saba knows what works! It is as simple as that. Saba is one of the best actresses in our industry and she has built her career by choosing intelligent projects and then giving stellar performances. From Maat, Digest Writer, Bunty I Love You to the recent Baaghi, Saba knows what will charm the viewers and give her more room to give her hundred percent and she acts on it. The end result: Stellar projects which people remember long after their conclusion and long to see Saba on screen again.

Mohsin Abbas Haider:

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

Mohsin is a full package of talent. From hosting to singing to acting, he has nailed every project he has done. Mohsin has been a part of really good projects that give him room for expression. His brief stint on television has still made people notice him because of the unique projects he chose. Muqabil was something people fell in love with, he has a different role in Meeras too and now Lashkara is also a great addition to his drama list.

Kubra Khan:

The Ones Who Have The Eye For A Good Script!

Kubra though a newbie knows how to select a project. She also has a knack for stories that will work. Mostly all of her projects were super-hit and all because the stories were extremely unique. Khuda Aur Mohabbat 2, Sange Marr Marr, Muqabil and even Alif Allah Aur Insaan kept the audience hooked to their screens and all did well on the TRP charts.

Which other actors do you think have a good eye for a beautiful script? Add to the list!

Zun Mureed Episode 8 Review – Victim Blaming!

This latest episode of Zun Mureed once again showed the difficulties Tabbasum had to face only because she refused to be beaten up and asked for some respect in return for everything she had done for her husband and his family. Tabbasum isn’t asking for much but Sajjad’s ego won’t allow him to admit that he was wrong and Tabbasum had no choice but to seek protection from the authorities. Sajjad’s ego stands in the way of a reconciliation and Mariam continues to do whatever she can in order to make sure that Tabbasum doesn’t come back to this house. Sajjad’s mother already wants that he should divorce Tabbbasum. It is truly upsetting to see these seemingly educated woman deriving pleasure out of someone’s suffering and this someone is not only their immediate family member but is also the person who looked after the house and at least one of these women for many years! Mariam and Bi Jaan have nothing to gain from making this situation even worse except control (of course!!). This entire situation has been shown realistically because unfortunately in a joint set up there are plenty of women like Bi Jaan who do not let their degrees stand in the way of their ignorance! They only want Tabbasum out of Sajjad’s life because they can’t see him giving his attention to her!

This drama aptly shows the problems a woman is most likely to face if she sends her husband to jail for beating her up. No one cares what Sajjad did, everyone is focusing on the fact that Tabbasum punished him for what he did to her. It is a common practice not just in our society but in many countries to blame the victim instead of the perpetrator and this practice is even more common when the victim is either a woman or someone from a minority group. If a woman musters up the courage to take a stand for herself, she will constantly be judged for doing so by majority of people including her own family members. Now with the freedom of media and the popularity of social media, the battle becomes even harder. It is good to see that the writer has shown that there are also people who applaud such women and acknowledge the fact that it is important for a woman to do whatever it takes to protect herself. Many of the scenes tonight showed how everyone was continuously judging Tabbasum and feeling for Sajjad. Tabbasum’s bhabhi’s remarks about the school principal who invited Tabbasum to come talk to her students showed that no matter what a woman achieves, some people will judge her based on her ‘marital status’! There are very few people who understand what Tabbasum is going through and even fewer who genuinely want to help.

Tabbasum was finally reunited with her children after Mariam figured out that Sajjad might give in to the pressure if the kids gave him too much trouble. Mariam’s husband is the only one who understands the situation but no one wants to listen to him! Fari and her class fellow’s conversation highlighted some important aspects of domestic abuse but these two actors are definitely not well-suited for the roles they are playing.

Zun Mureed’s script is faultless and some of the performances are right on point too but Nadia Khan continues to be the weakest link! I don’t understand why she chose to play such a role when she cannot compromise on her make-up and styling and I am also wondering why the producers thought that someone like her who still has a long way to go could have done justice to such a powerful character! Our drama industry is filled with talented actresses who could have done complete justice to this role. Amna Mufti’s script is intelligently written which is the only reason why it gives you a great deal to talk about and something to look forward to every week.

I am waiting to see if Tabbasum will eventually go back to Sajjad’s house. Right now it seems highly unlikely! How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

More Allegations Of Harassment On Ali Zafar!

After Meesha Shafi came out with allegations on Ali Zafar, the internet was divided and the fans on both sides had a lot of opinions. Many were counter-accusing Meesha on her allegations. Today, some more people came out alleging that Ali also harassed them. Hamna Raza came out with her story as she explained that she was afraid that no one will believe her:More Allegations Of Harassment On Ali Zafar!

There has been a complete silence after the incident came out yesterday. Fans are supporting Meesha and Ali both. With Ali wanting to take it forward in a court of law, these allegations can be harmful to him!

There was a time when Pakistani viewers desperately wanted to watch dramas which highlighted important social issues, broke stereotypes and were entertaining too since most of the dramas focused entirely on family politics and there were hardly any strong female leads in our dramas. Although, even today such dramas get ratings but there are plenty of viewers out there who want to see variation in Pakistani dramas and would rather tune into a show which serves a higher purpose. Apart from this, the viewers also wanted the drama makers to experiment with different genres.

The production houses finally realized that they needed to make dramas which were for those viewers who believe that dramas are a useful medium for spreading awareness and shedding light on topics which people usually shy away from therefore they didn’t only let the writers experiment with genres but also showed quite a few hard-hitting dramas in prime time.

Aakhri Station is just plain beautiful! Everything about this drama is brilliant right from the get-go. It is a relatively short play which is meaningful, deep as well as gripping. Once you start watching this show, you won’t be able to stop! It gives hope and educates at the same time. The OST of this drama is equally impressive. It is yet another feather in Kashf Foundation’s cap. Amna Mufti’s script is compelling and all-encompassing.

Khudgarz

Writer: Rida Bilal

Director: Yasir Nawaz

Produced By: Six Sigma Plus & Next Level Entertainment

Rating: 5 Stars ☆☆☆☆☆

Khudgarz drama is a result of an intelligently written script where the writer Rida Bilal didn’t lose her grip on the script, from the beginning till the end. Khudgarz’s script was strong but the director elevated its level with his strong direction and the actors took it a notch higher too with their extraordinary performances. This is one such drama that will stay with you for a long time and will touch you on a very personal level.

As the name suggests, Khudgarz was a story of a young man who couldn’t see anyone happy and then his journey from being negative to someone who wanted to do everything to revert his wrongdoings. A story also covering strong friendships, beautiful marriage which was A result of sacrifices and compromise. Khudgarz also intelligently shed a light on the sensitive subject of depression and the way this entire aspect was covered made it too obvious that depression was never tackled in such a way in our dramas before. Beautifully written dialogues and all those situations  which kept you engulfed in deep thoughts when you tuned to this drama makes it a must-watch.

Zun Mureed

Writer: Amna Mufti

Director: Ahmed Kamran

Produced By: Moomal Entertainment

Rating: 3.5 Stars ☆☆☆☆

Zun Mureed highlights the issue of domestic abuse from a completely new perspective. It sheds light on how difficult it is for women to actually use the women protection bill to shelter themselves from abuse. Amna Mufti’s script is powerful and affective but unfortunately Nadia Khan, who plays the role of Tabbasum (the main protagonist) failed to do justice to her character. This drama could have been even more impactful if it was given the right treatment by the director. Zun Mureed however shouldn’t be missed because it is bound to give its viewers tons to reflect upon and raises some really important and relevant questions. Also, apart from Nadia Khan all the other actors have performed brilliantly therefore overall the viewers will have no trouble connecting to the characters and the situations.

Shayyad

Writer: Faiza Iftikhar

Director: Syed Ali Raza (Usama)

Produced By: Babar Javed

Rating: 5 Stars ☆☆☆☆☆

Shayyad is a must-see drama for all the hopeless romantics out there who want to watch a different story of undying love. Uzair Jaswal’s phenomenal performance, the beautiful dialogues and an unpredictable storyline are few of the reason why everyone should tune into this drama. The filmy feel of this play is sure to cast a spell on its viewers and you will find yourself falling in love with Saad (the main protagonist) more with every passing episode.

Shayyad is a love story which will win you over as soon as you are done watching the first episode. It is poignant, inspiring and meaningful, Shayyad is also one of those very few dramas which didn’t drag at all. Some of the characters are so beautifully etched-out that at times they are the sole reason why you keep on coming back for more! Hani and Saad’s love story is unforgettable and touching. If you haven’t watched this play already, you need to tune into it ASAP!!

Nibah

Writer: Radian Shah

Director: Aabis Raza

Produced By: Big Bang Entertainment

Rating: 5 Stars ☆☆☆☆☆

Drama serial Nibah is a remake of an old classic Aanch. Making a remake of a classic is always a risky affair. I remember watching Aanch and my impressions of all the characters therefore naturally I found myself comparing Nibah with Aanch and there were plenty of moments when I was convinced that this remake was a more improved and polished version of the original drama. Nibah starts off slow but once it takes off, it completely wins you over. Nibah is one of the very few family dramas on air right now which you can tune into at 8 o clock and enjoy watching it with your family. Aamina Sheikh’s performance is the highlight of this drama and the nuanced characters are the main attraction. Unlike Aanch the characters are not black and white, the overall treatment given to the play is much more impressive and I must say that some of the performances are far more compelling too.

Nibah is the story of two people who tie the knot in circumstances which are anything but ideal. This drama covers their journey and you end up forming an emotional bond with these two amazing but equally flawed individuals and you can’t help but root for a happy ending. Nibah’s script, direction, cast, performances and the pace is perfect. It is not to be missed, do tune into it. Aamina Sheikh continues to impress and enthrall the viewers and Asif Raza Mir is perfect for the role he is playing in the show. This is a perfect family drama which shouldn’t be missed!

Belapur Ki Dayan

Writer: Inam Hasan

Director: Saife Hassan

Produced by: MD Productions

Rating: 5 Stars ☆☆☆☆☆

Belapur Ki Dayan is a perfect combination of horror and suspense, it is the kind of drama which will give you goosebumps and keep you at the edge of your seats. Saife Hassan’s skillful direction, the excellent work done by the director of photography and a story which has tons of surprises are few of the reasons why this drama shouldn’t be missed! The overall setting of the play so far is perfect, the location couldn’t have been better and the strong attention to detail gives every scene a realistic touch.

Belapur Ki Dayan is the story of Aziz Sahib’s family which is troubled by a dayan after they move into an old ancestral house. The back story of the dayan is as interesting as the present day happenings. The past and the present are seamlessly woven together. The performances are convincing and the execution couldn’t have been better. This show is a must-watch for all those viewers who enjoy watching horror shows.

Ishq Tamasha

Writer: Misbah Nosheen

Director: Danish Nawaz

Produced by: MD Productions

Rating: 4 Stars ☆☆☆☆☆

Ishq Tamasha is an entertaining drama which shouldn’t be missed. Even though this drama has a somewhat predictable story but the execution and acting makes you look forward to it week after week. The direction of this drama is strong and to see Kinza Hashmi portraying such a boisterous character without holding back is the main attraction of this drama.

Ishq Tamasha’s story is about two cousins where one is carefree and dreams big, the other one is constantly reminded of how hard her life is. One of them gets involved with a guy and the other one happens to take the brunt for her cousin’s mistakes. Ishq Tamasha has been written brilliantly and it definitely is a must-watch because it is one of those dramas that would keep you entertained and by the end of an episode, it will give you a reason to tune to it next week too.

Teri Meri Kahani

Writer: Sumaira Hameed

Director: Ali Faizan

Producer: MD Productions & Moomal Productions

Rating: 3.5 Stars ☆☆☆

Teri Meri Kahani isn’t as deep and meaningful as most of the plays in this list and some of the performances are weak as well but overall it is definitely the kind of show which keeps you interested. This is also Saheefa Jabbar’s first drama and she is one of the main reasons why this drama has a fresh appeal. Some of the performances are below average but the story is engaging enough to keep the viewers interested. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that Saheefa Jabbar makes this drama more likeable and watchable.

Teri Meri Kahani is essentially the story of relationships and how they shape up your life. It also shows how secrets can hurt your ties and the past can come to haunt you. It has different characters who are fighting to keep their relationships intact and others who find pleasure in causing pain to others. The script is interesting but the execution fails to impress at times, overall however it is entertaining and therefore is a must-watch.

Lashkara

Writer: Zafar Mairaj

Director: Kashif Nisar

Produced By: Six Sigma Productions

Rating: 4 Stars ☆☆☆☆

Even though Lashkara’s story is in the initial stages but the beginning of this drama has promised a lot. The way the director has brought the dynamics of interior Lahore to life on screen is commendable. This drama has so much to offer and there’s so much that meets the eye.

Lashkara’s story is about this beautiful girl Bubbly who has quite a lot of admirers and fans in her locality. Bubbly’s beauty is the focal point and she has earned quite a name. The way the characters are being portrayed by Ushna Shah, Imran Ashraf and Mohsin Abbas Haider is impressive. Lashkara is one such drama that is going to keep you entertained, therefore is makes it to the list of must-watch dramas.

Visaal

Writer: Hashim Nadeem

Director: Ali Hassan

Produced By: Big Bang Entertainment

Rating: 3.5 Stars ☆☆☆

Visaal is again the drama that is in the initial stages of story-telling but the simple vibe and feel along with positive characters are the main factors why this drama has that appeal to draw the attention.

Visaal’s story is about the imposter who has entered the lives of those people who are unable to see-through his intentions. Just because he fell in love at first sight with the main lead, he chose to pave his way towards her. There are a lot of misunderstandings that are brewing up a storm and along the way, a couple of love triangles are forming too. It is a simple drama executed impressively, therefore it is worth a watch.

Ghar Titlee Ka Par

Writer: Samra Bukhari

Director: Mohsin Talat

Produced By: 7th Sky Entertainment

Rating: 3.5 Stars ☆☆☆

The number one reason why this drama made it to this list is Anji’s character and the way Sanam Chaudhry has tanslated it on screen! Anji’s character has been the star of every single episode so far. The most interesting element of this is that this Anji’s character is negative (to say the least!) but even then Anji has more appeal than many other female leads we have seen in our dramas in recent times. Ghar Titlee Ka Par is addictive therefore once you start watching it, you won’t be able to stop!!

OKB Has An Answer For Saba!

OKB just worked with Saba Qamar in Baaghi and all seemed friendly between them. Yesterday, Saba took a dig at Mahira when her movie’s business surpassed that of Raees’s. OKB has responded to it as he took full responsibility of the joke made at the LSA. This is his message for Saba:

OKB Has An Answer For Saba!

OKB has subtly taken the side of his favourite starlet but it was nice to take the responsibility whatsoever. Do you think it is a smart move from Osman’s side?

Haara Dil Episode 2 Review — Moving Forward

So episode 2 took off where episode 1 had left. Abrar and Shagufta are shell shocked over the revelation that they are expecting a third baby. Shagufta looks pretty rattled and asks Abrar to get an abortion to which Abrar suggests that they shouldn’t make any rash decisions in a hurry and consult some more doctors meanwhile Abeer and Momina are really worried about their mother’s health. Abrar wants Shagufta to reveal this news to their daughters because he thinks they will understand but Shagufta is too ashamed to tell anyone about this and keeps accusing Abrar of being selfish.

On the other side Arham and Momina meet up because Arham is angry with Momina over how she left his sister’s mehendi and didn’t give him a chance to put things right while Momina is adamant that his mother and sister reduced her existence to nothing with the way they treated her and that Arham should be able to see that. She also suggests that Arham should stop fighting his mother because of her and that if they are destined to end together they will and may I add how cringeworthy Arham’s pickup lines are like dude relax.

Amtul and Areej are shown discussing the same thing again since they have nothing better to do, Areej keeps mocking her mother for thinking that Arham respects her wishes and will marry Anoushay to which Amtul says that eventually she is one who will prevail and not Arham’s love for Momina.

Haara Dil Episode 2 Review --- Moving Forward

Afaan somehow manages to convince Amtul to accompany him to Abrar’s place and ask Abrar for Momina’s hand in marriage and no surprises there Amtul is in it just to ruin it. Shagufta is over the moon because she thinks Amtul now approves of Arham and Momina’s marriage but little does she know. As she prepares for their arrival her condition worsens and she vomits which worries Momina and Abeer further more for her health.

Cut to Momina getting ready to be presented in front of her Mother in Law to be, she is still struggling with her love for Arham and her fear of Amtul as she asks God to somehow make Amtul’s heart softer towards Momina. Afaan and Amtul arrive at their place and as expected Amtul starts with how they only eat food cooked in olive oil just to derogate Abrar and Shagufta. When Momina arrives to greet them she witnesses Amtul suggesting that a guy’s advances don’t matter unless he is encouraged by the girl and that Arham is into her because Momina let him.

Abrar goes berserk after hearing this as any dignified person would and asks Afaan and Amtul to leave because he doesn’t want his daughter to be married off in a family that doesn’t respect her, he further states that there is no love if there is no respect exactly what Amtul wanted.

Haara Dil Episode 2 Review --- Moving Forward

Arham gets really mad when he finds out what happened that is when Amtul tells him that she has a status to maintain in the society and can not let him marry the daughter of a man who was brought in their house by Afaan’s mother because he had no where else to go. The argument keeps getting worse when Arham says he won’t marry anyone that should be the end of story and leaves.

Meanwhile Abrar and Shagufta are getting as many checkups as they can to be sure what they want to do next, the doctors say mostly the same things like the pregnancy is dangerous at this age and that the abortion is pretty much out of the question.

By the end of the episode the doctor reveals the baby’s gender and it’s a BOYYYYY upon hearing that Abrar’s happiness knows no bounds and Shagufta clearly knows that any hopes of getting an abortion are dead now.

Over all the drama is going with good pace, everyone’s acting is satisfactory except Danish and the woman who plays Areej, anyone can tell how fake they look also the script can be very predictable and stupid at times.

In the pre-cap we find out thatthe next episode includes some more revelations and fierce confrontations. So fingers crossed.

How’d you like the second episode of Haara Dil?

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 10 Review – Storytelling At Its Best!

Tonight’s episode of Bela Pur Ki Dayan was storytelling at its best, it was the perfect blend of mystery and confusion which keeps you guessing and looking forward to more. Fueled by gripping performances by all the actors involved, this recent episode gave the viewers tons to speculate about. Inam Hasan’s script is turning out to be more complex, unpredictable, innovative and compelling than I had expected it to be! Honestly speaking, I am pleasantly surprised and quite impressed by the approach the writer has taken. The direction, the visuals, lighting and the background score has always been perfect right from the get-go which gives this drama the right atmosphere and you are effortlessly drawn into the world of all these characters who are fighting their own wars. All the leading characters whether they are alive or dead have a story to tell and keep you at the edge of your seats. Perfectly shot and edited, this was definitely the best episode of Bela Pur Ki Dayan till now even though it didn’t have any horror scenes but one glimpse of the Dayan was enough to remind you what and who Aziz is dealing with!

Bela Pur Ki Dayan Episode 10 Review - Storytelling At Its Best!

This recent episode showed the aftermath of Rameez and Gainda’s adventure in the previous episode. The most interesting element of tonight’s story was the different versions of the back story given by Aziz and Rehmat . Irfan Khoosat is such a remarkable actor, loved every second of watching him play a character which has finally come into its own and looks like he has tons to offer. While Aziz made it sound like he was the victim right from the time he found out that Rameez landed himself into trouble, Rehmat’s story was completely different. The viewers found out today that Aziz’s taya/stepfather and rest of the family members, possibly his mother and Neelo were murdered by someone. Although Aziz is a shady character who is definitely hiding something but right now it is impossible to think that he would murder his own family or even someone else. Rehmat’s story however suggested that he was a greedy man who would have done anything for money! Right now, it seems like both the men might be exaggerating the truth but then why is Neelo after Aziz? The back story so far has shown Neelo as a sweet girl who genuinely loved Aziz’s mother but after tonight the viewers should expect to be shocked over and over again!! Aziz’s mother was shown calming Neelo down when she was about to do something extreme but she is out of the picture now and so far Neelo has killed two people.

The fact that the back story is not just being narrated verbally but is being shown, adds to the confusion. Both the versions are believable and hence keep you wondering who is telling the truth! This show so far is suspenseful and well-put-together. The real story has just started, hopefully Bela Pur Ki Dayan will continue to be this exciting in the upcoming weeks as well.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Which version of the back story do you believe is true? Do share your thoughts.

Pukaar Episode 11 Review – Too Extreme!

Ohkay so, this episode of Pukaar was definitely decent but I think its about time that they start spinning things in Samra’s favor because seeing everything transpiring against her is becoming burdensome to watch now!

Samra’s mother tried hard to convince Sarang but because he himself had a baggage attached to that name & because he wanted to stay distant from Sultan Asfand Yar Khan, Sarang refused to do anything for her.

Unfortunately, Samra was kept in the dark & the one who was trying to help her; Zulekha was sent away too because she was giving her the details which Laali didn’t want. Sadly, Samra’s father passed away & then Laali got a validation that the news of his accident wasn’t a lie. To be honest, I really think what they are showing is an unrealistic extreme. If they had kept it till his accident, it would’ve made sense but literally hiding the news of her father’s passing from Samra is a bit too much.

It is good to see Tashfeen sympathizing with Samra but I feel even her helplessness is pushed a bit too far. When Samra asked her to do something so that she could speak to her mother, Tashfeen brushed it off? How hard is it for Tashfeen to retrieve Samra’s phone from Laali & hand it over to her? Why can’t she do that? It is like despite feeling for Samra, Tashfeen doesn’t want to get involved in her issues? Tashfeen can assure Laali that Samra isn’t going anywhere so the least they can do is give her the freedom to be in contact with her parents over the phone? Too extreme I swear!

Sarang discussed Samra’s issue with Amna, he also recognized Samra because he has had brief encounters with her in the past. Let’s see what advice Amna will give to Sarang? The preview did show that Asfand will try to bring Sarang & even Amna in his house? Will Sarang try to go in order to help Samra? Let’s see. Even though they have started establishing the plot for Samra’s rescue but I really wish they hurry up a bit because seeing Laali’s dominance is a nuisance. Please share your thoughts.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Ali Zafar Responds To Meesha’s Allegations!

So, Meesha Shafi opened up today on sexual harassment she has faced and she accused fellow singer, Ali Zafar of crossing limits, few times. Her mother the veteran actress Saba Hameed is fully supporting her in her decision to come out and share her story. She said that she has faced some uncomfortability from the star and that she is not alone. You can read her statement here. Ali Zafar has decided to not remain quiet and has given out a statement. He is going to pursue this situation according to law and order. This is what Ali said:

Ali Zafar Responds To Meesha's Allegations!

A safe statement to give about the whole fiasco we must say! What do you guys think?

Saba Qamar Takes A Dig At Mahira Khan!

Mahira Khan is the first Pakistani actress whose movie in Bollywood joined the hundred crore club. She starred opposite Shahrukh Khan in Raees. Later that year, Mahira Khan did a rap song on stage at the Lux Style Awards alongside Osman Khalid Butt. A line from that rap was “Kya aapki filmein bhi hain 100 crore kamatein?” which she had to sing due to the demands of the show’s script. Saba Qamar was the actress who boycotted the same LSAs for their prejudice and consequently, jokes were made on her boycott. So, Saba Qamar’s Hindi Medium has surpassed the business of Raees worldwide and Saba had the answer to Mahira’s question finally. Saba took to her Instagram and shared a screenshot of express tribune reporting that her film has surpassed Raees and she had a take on it in the caption:

Saba Qamar Takes A Dig At Mahira Khan!

And Saba has finally answered! She does not like insulting jokes and she respects her co-stars too!

Meesha Shafi Accuses Ali Zafar Of Sexual Harassment

As the campaign #MeToo has helped bring many cases of sexual harassment to light and helped the victims to not only speak about their experiences but has also helped them to heal.

After many celebrities who have spoken previously Meesha Shafi too decided to break her silence today and accused her co star Ali Zafar of sexual harassment.

In a note attached to a tweet this afternoon Meesha Shafi penned down,

“Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out.. but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo”

In the note she said,

“I have been subjected to sexual harassment of a physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar. These incidences did not happen when I was young or just entering the industry. This happened to be despite the fact that I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind! This happened to me as a mother of two children.”

She continued,

“Ali is someone I have known for many years and someone I shared the stage with. I feel betrayed by his behaviour and his attitude and I know that I am not alone.”

Meesha Shafi Accuses Ali Zafar Of Sexual Harassment

Ali Zafar hasn’t confirmed or denied these allegations yet as everyone awaits his response.

The Chronicles Of Censor Board

0

So today we will address the elephant in the room aka The Censor Board but first let’s see what Censor Board really is.

The Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) is a film censorship board and rating system body under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting for the Government of Pakistan. It is tasked with regulating the public screening of films under the provisions of the Motion Picture Ordinance, 1979. The head offices are located in Islamabad, while two regional offices are located in Karachi and Lahore.

Certifications is refused if, in the opinion of the board, the film or any part thereof:

  1. ridicules, disparages or attacks Islam or any religious sect, caste and creed.
  2. questions the integrity, security or defense of Pakistan or hurts national sentiments.
  3. undermines public order, decency or morality, which includes vulgar dialogues, songs, or gestures.
  4. glorifies vice or crime or amounts to incitement of a criminal offense.

Any film refused certification may appeal within thirty days of the date of refusal.

To be honest I can not name a single Hollywood, Bollywood or Lollywood movie that doesn’t defy at least one of the above criteria so based on that the only movies that would get clearance to be screened in our cinemas would be Iranian movies since their Censor Board does it right for a conservative Islamic state but here in lies the cute munafiqat of our Censor Board and the general public that claims to be conservative yet prefers a Bollywood or Hollywood movie over a Lollywood movie (relatively conservative than the former ones) any given day.

I know the entire anti-Bollywood mostly anti-Indian clan keeps asking for a ban on Bollywood releases entirely but breaking news those movies are what generate revenue for our cinemas, those Bollywood movies have a viewership larger than both Hollywood and Lollywood combined and form the back bone of our cinemas. I am not a fan of mainstream Bollywood myself but if we must rely on Bollywood to generate revenue for us let us at least be fair and choose art and not garbage to be screened at our cinemas.

Let’s look at some movies (both Indian and Pakistani) that were banned or not banned or banned and then unbanned by our prestigious Censor board and why.

1: Maalik

The Chronicles Of Censor Board

Everyone was bummed when this political thriller was banned because it called out the corrupt system of this country even tho CBFC claims that it has no jurisdiction or exercises any power over Punjab and Sindh Censor Broads but everyone knows who is pulling the strings. The film was banned by Sindh Censor Board and what a waste. This gem of a movie and the people who put everything they had in it did not deserve this. Banning movies that call out this system only goes to show we would rather pretend everything is okay than accept the truth. The integrity of this system can not be questioned or threatened since it doesn’t have any.

2: Verna

The Chronicles Of Censor Board

Shoaib Mansoor helmed Verna would have suffered the same fate as that of Maalik but it didn’t for reasons I do not know. The film was initially banned again because it called out the corrupt politicians and their abuse of power but the movie was later not only cleared and screened but was screened without any cut scenes. So what changed? The movie was screened just the way it was created so how come it was worthy of ban on first screening by Censor Board and then suddenly without any changes it was okay to be screened publicly.

3: PadMan

The Chronicles Of Censor Board

PadMan is a biopic that talks about menstrual hygiene and although this subject is as natural as any it is still treated as a taboo and even the slight mention of the word ‘menstruation’ still sends shivers down spines of many and makes them uncomfortable and I don’t mind if the Censor Board believes the film is too much right now that we still need time before we watch a movie that discusses menstruation with our families openly in cinemas but then again how come the same Censor Board doesn’t mind screening films like Jism, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and even Lollywood movies that sexualize women in the name of item songs and what not? The saddest part is the Censor Board didn’t even watch the movie before banning it since the topic is too disturbing.

4: Padmaavat

The Chronicles Of Censor Board

I watched Padmaavat (not in cinema who’d waste money on that lol) only because of all the hype and I still don’t understand what the protest was all about. If anyone it is us the Muslims who should have protested since Khilji was portrayed less like a Muslim and more like a Viking who was a pervert. More than them if anyone had a right to protest against this it was the cinema lovers since this movie is the trashiest thing I have seen in a long long time. This is an insult to cinema and to the intellects of movies goers. The film has bad cinematography, joke of script, so many unnecessary and laughable erotic scenes and glorifies traditions like Jauhar but apparently Censor Board thought this movie was perfectly alright to be screened publicly. Watching a movie that talks about menstruation is disturbing but hey let’s watch gay Khilji onscreen because why not!

The list goes on and on. Films like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani do not disrupt the very fabric of our society but films like Verna do, films that portray women as sex objects like Jism are ethically and morally acceptable but movies that talk about issues like rape and menstruation are a threat to our moral values. Censor Boards hypocrisy in particular and our nation’s hypocrisy in general needs to be called out again and again until we acknowledge our dual standards and work on what’s actually threatening the morals of this society.
