Sunrise from Istanbul Overview – Energy booster!

With having tons of creepy shows around on television that does nothing but give away those tips on preparing whitening creams for your face or remedies that might make you have long luscious hair as claimed by ‘dermatologist’ or all the ‘herbalists’ in the shows while preparing them and then the tickers that says “aj hum bana Rai hn rang kaala krne wali cream aur aisa shampoo jo k apko ganja krne me mdad krega”ooops… my bad! How can I even forget, we reside in Pakistan! “rang kaala hona yahan pr tou badsoorti smjha jata he!” Pardon me guys for even writing such a thing! so where was I? Yeah those tickers where they publicize their ability to make whitening creams, that makes you wonder the mentality of these people conducting the shows, I mean like seriously? Is this what we should be worried off in such a world where everyone is headed towards a progress?? Ab bs yehi kam reh gaya he Kia?? Smh literally! That being said, honestly in such a situation ‘Sunrise from Istanbul’ is definitely a breath of fresh air.

I began watching it a little while back, mainly because the vibes it generated, and the idea it started off with seemed a bit novice, and to my surprise there weren’t any aforementioned disgusting stuff in the show and since I had to kill some of my precious time so that I might witness myself drown in the bucket loaded with guilt as exams for my very first semester were to be held a few days later and also for the fact that my tablet got out of my reach, (Maybe somebody cursed me with black magic, hmmm?) I got into it.

However, I stopped watching it later due to the hectic schedule I have, but the other day got the chance to watch it again, after when I caught glimpse of it while searching something worthwhile to watch. And then reminiscent of my experience with it hit me back, which led me Penn this overview down for you guys!

Sunrise from Istanbul is a Pakistani morning show, recorded in Turkey and hosted by Maria wasti which airs on see tv. The show also comprises bunch of some musicians along with a chef (all Turkish).

One of the reasons that provides me a reason to tune into the show every once in a while is that they reserve one episode for a single personality, which ends up on being enough fruitful to give it a decent end and that not even a single fuss gets to be created, which probably is not the case with most of the morning shows airing these days. That being said, the guests are always treated with utmost respect by the host herself, and also the way Maria is always friendly with her guest lights up the mood, the minute you start watching the show.

Frankly speaking, for me the show has always been a mood lifter, I really loved the episode when Reham khan was invited, I got an insight into her life and her decent and thought-provoking conversation made me like her even more. Other than that, the game Maria plays with her guests is quite different, unique and interesting too, something you guys may not come across in any other game show. However, the way she plays it is slightly confusing, yet cute at the same time. Curtly speaking, the show can be worth watching if the guest that interest you, is invited, as plenty of time is given to the host to conduct a decent interview.

Hope you guys liked the overview! Don’t hold back in sharing your thoughts as I definitely am looking forward to reading them.

Stay blessed!

Karakoram Ka Taj Mahal – Review

Exploring the horizons of a tale of an idealistic living of both the leads, Nimra Ahmed this time takes us on a ride to Karakoram, aka Rakaposhi residing in the northern areas of Pakistan, along with her aged old approach of giving in all the tad bits of details of almost every little scenario and then maintaining a touch of suspense in her another magnificent work of fiction, karakoram ka Taj Mahal, which, for all the astounding reasons is based on a true story!

The novel starts with Parishe (pari) another beauty queen, owning the looks of pari (fairy) as portrayed in the novel with her hair all tied up back in a nice, neat ponytail, supposedly, being angry at a kid as he whistled at her while she was on her way to her cousin’s house (Nisha) who is also her only best friend, at the moment. Initially she’s portrayed as an idealist, whose, dreams got crushed by her own family members, relatively at quite a younger age right after her mother left the dimensions of this worldly world. Though, she sidelined all her dreams, she still has this desire to crest the mountains, or, to be more exact be delighted by the scenic beauty of it and meetup with her dream prince she has been dreaming of her entire life, but she being another innocent soul agrees on marrying her aunt’s son, Saif just for the sake of her father and also struggles on becoming a doctor just so that she might make her father and in-laws happy.

Moving forward as the story progress she’s given permission by her father to just have a visit of northern areas of Pakistan along with her cousin Nisha and a tour guide ( since my geography has always been quite a disaster and I have always been struggling in memorizing the names of places, I won’t be naming them here!) That said, while they both were wandering on the streets of Mall road of Murrey they crossed paths with Uffaq Arsalan ( the hero) another idealist in the novel, whom parishe couldn’t take her eyes off from the minute she sighted him, (Yes, he happens to be that handsome!) Who was just to crest Rakaposhi.

The story takes a turn as they spend some time together, since, coincidentally they went off to visit those northern areas together with the same tour guide. And then with loads of tears and drama Pari ends up melting her father’s heart that led him to allow her summit Rakaposhi along with the people who were on their way to summit it, which took the story to the whole new dimension.

Overall, the entire story revolves around dreams being shattered and still not giving up, sorrow, happiness, laughter and then the scenic beauty of the northern areas of Pakistan. The characters, dialogues and all the minute details keeps you glued to the book and the nights spent in Karakoram are written in such an impeccable manner that it gets nerve wrecking until you get to the end especially the part when Irsa (their mutual friend) dies and then later when another avalanche hits Uffaq!

The best part for me was when Pari does everything she could to save Uffaq, however, the part when they were rescued took my breath away as it got really devastating to see him not being rescued after all the obstacles, stress and physical torture they both went through. It not only took my breath away, but also tore me apart on the inside, considering the fact that it was based on a true story and that all the characters were real, things got even more scary for me!

Honestly, this one is absolutely a must read and after getting towards the end your heart won’t hold back in screaming, “ Nimra Ahmed you really owe me my tears girl!” Nevertheless, it’s definitely a masterpiece!

Hope you guys liked the review, don’t forget to share your thoughts.

Stay blessed!

Hamza Ali Abbasi’s Message To The Pakistani Cricket Team

Hamza Ali Abbasi's Message To The Pakistani Cricket Team

Famously known for being courageously outspoken and bold when it comes to sharing his personal opinions to the public, Hamza Ali Abbasi recorded yet another video message and uploaded it on his official page last night.

This video was a message for the Pakistani Cricket Team (due to play today with England in the first semi-final of the ICC World Champions Trophy) in accordance with recent internet trolling, where users ridiculed the green players like Captain Sarfraz, for being unable to speak fluent English at the press conferences while addressing the crowd of journalists and reporters.

The 32-year-old actor stressed that it’s high time for the people of Pakistan to ‘get out of this colonial slave mindset’ and stop judging people by whether or not they were proficient in spoken English.

He said that a cricketer’s job is not to be adept at any sort of language but only to be skilled at his game; hence if the people should have to criticize anything, they should keep it limited to the team’s performance on the ground and that was it.

He also motivated the cricket team to not be discouraged in any sort of way or feel embarrassed by this situation and advised them to keep a translator for the future who could translate their sentences to the press as they answer the questions in Urdu, which is after all, Pakistan’s national as well as first language for the majority of the citizens that dwell here.

Watch the full video here:

https://www.facebook.com/hamzaaliabbasi/videos/1504476236282712/

All in all, it can’t be denied that Hamza’s words do have a ring of truth in them. Also, our hearts go out with the Pakistan Cricket Team who good naturedly took in the mockery thrown at them and we wish them the very best of luck for today’s match.

What are your thoughts on the video? Let us know in the comments!

Once her father passes away and she remains at the mercy of her stepmom, her relationship with Ahmed will take a new turn.

Ahmed Ali Butt’s new comedy telefilm coming on eid

Ahmed Ali Butt has always been extremely impressive in comedy roles. He breathes life into comedy with his innocent face and original mannerisms.

This Eid, he is coming to entertain you once again with telefilm “saiyyan motor walay”. He is in the lead role and other characters are played by Tipu, Salma Hassan and Rabab Hashim.

Talking about the telefilm, Ahmed Ali Butt has told us that Salma Hassan is playing his sister who is dependent upon him along with her husband Tipu and their five kids.  She is insecure that her brother will no longer support her if he marries, so she tries everything to ensure he remains single.

Now, the twist is where the brother falls in love with a girl played by Rabab Hashim. In order to prove himself to her, our hero borrows his friend’s car, hence the name “saiyyan motor walay”. What follows is a series of comic flings that is sure to give us all some laughs this Eid.

Sarfaraz Is Being Ridiculed For Weak English & Its Unbelievable!

After an amazing win against Sri Lanka, skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was praised for strong performance with his partner Mohammad Amir. However, right after the match, the latest hero of Pakistan became a target of the trolls on social media and it was totally unexpected.

Sarfaraz Is Being Ridiculed For Weak English & Its Unbelievable!

While making his way to the press conference Sarfaraz had no idea that the camera was recording and he ended up saying “Saray English Ke Hai”, while he seemed concerned about the question being asked in English. He asked it twice before the press conference started officially.

Unfortunately, it did not take long for people to take a laugh and troll the cricketer. It is heart breaking to see people judging a hero because of his speaking power! The 14-second long clip went viral on the Internet and the nation trolled Sarfaraz like nobody’s business.

The magnitude of the trolling is clearly not justified.

Justin Bibis Back In Action?

Justin Bibis Back In Action?

It looks like another Justin Bibis video has been discovered by the internet and posted yesterday

Saaniya and Muqaddas, the original duo, were able to gain their short-term fame after being recorded singing Justin Bieber’s Baby in the year 2015. The video went insanely viral all over social media and the girls became the new Pakistani sensation, being called as the Justin Bibis and recognized by several national celebrated singers as well as international news channels such as BBC.

Watch the new found video of the girls here:

Here’s what Justin Bibis were like 2 years back:

The original Justin Bibis however, didn’t just stop there. They also made their debuts in a local talk show as well as the World Cup Song ‘Phir Se Game Utha De‘. They even recorded a s mashup of Helena Josefsson’s Broken Angel and part of Noor Jehan’s Punjabi song Jadon Holi Jayi Lenda Mera Naam and were featured in Patari.

The two young girls were unable to attend school due to lack of funds but after their Baby video, the Pakistani self-acclaimed Rock-star, Ali Zafar offered to sponsor their education if they permitted it.

What are your thoughts on the Justin Bibis? Do you wish to see and hear more videos with covers of new songs from them? Let us know in the comments!

Momina Mustehsan Lashes Out At Amir Liaquat!

A couple of days ago, Amir Liaquat invited Meera Jee to Bol TV’s ‘Game Show Aisay Chalay Ga’. He decided to have some fun at her expense. He availed opportunities to take digs at Meera and his overall persona, tone and mannerisms were demeaning and rude.

Apparently, his encounter with Meera became quite controversial. The whole nation was disturbed by the controversial conversation between Meera and Amir Liaquat. The video went viral and a few celebrities spoke against the whole cringe-worthy incident!

Sharemeen Obaid was totally appalled by the whole incident:

The latest one to speak against Amir Liaquat is Momina Mustehsan and it’s exactly what feel!

Amir Liaqat, the man known for stuffing mangoes down a man’s mouth last year has learnt nothing from the continues criticism he receives.

Sun Yaara Episodes 23 & 24 Review – Revelations!

While watching these two episodes, I was reminded of this nursery rhyme/song the kids used to listen to when they were small. The one about five little monkeys jumping on the bed, then there are four, three, etc (those were some seriously dheet monkeys by the way!). Anyway, here it seemed like cat upon cat was let out of the bag as there were quite a few revelations. Saima’s blurting out the truth about Tania, Saif’s mother ‘realising’ how unfair she had been, Saif ‘realising’ he can not bear being separated from his son (although having managed just fine till now) and Hina spilling the beans about Tania-Talal to Roshni.

Saima blurting out the truth about Tania was convincing enough for me for her character lacks depth and even though she probably felt very clever at the time, siding with Tania even when she saw right through her now when rubbed the other way she could not help blurting all out in front of Saif. Tania’s accident made her mother suddenly realise how she has wronged Laali. Which is what she said at least but I am not sure whether she genuinely feels guilt or is suddenly worried about how all this will affect her children’s marriages (given as they are all married into the same family!).

I find it odd how Saif never had the urge to see his son before Tania sent him a picture. They live in the same city but it never occurred to him to go see him and now one picture has him turned into a raging father who must have his ‘haq’. I wondered too at Tania’s intentions when she sent Saif the picture. Somehow I do not believe she intended for him to go crazy like this and demand that the child be with him or to complicate Laali’s life but Saif has set out just to do that. Before learning the truth about Tania, it was only his son he wanted back but now he wants Laali and his son and lives in some weird frame of mind where he believes that Laali still harbors feelings for him. I suppose in his odd little La la land he now fancies a ha-lala. Quite lame I know, but I could not resist, haha.

I am not sure what Laali was thinking taking her son to the park to meet Saif. Yes, he threatened to come to her house and the only thing I can think of is that since Mustafa was not home she did not want it to go back to his ears that Saif had visited. But I feel she should take him into confidence for it is not as if Mustafa is not aware of her first marriage so why the secrecy, especially as Laali till now has seemed to be quite a sensible person. But hey, who’s asking me. I expected Ayaan to say something about meeting a man in the park or something to that effect but he has not said anything as yet. It is predictable which way this is headed and then the promo for the next episode confirms it so now tables have turned and it is like being on a see saw. Laali sulked while Mustafa suffered, they came midway and their relationship if not close then at least was amicable and now I suppose Mustafa will sulk and Laali shall suffer. Ah well.

While we are talking about parks and see saws, Talal and Roshni have their own ping pong game of insults going on. She screamed, raged, cried, pouted, flounced – all to end up meekly saying ‘qabool hai’. I have no idea whether mujhay roza lag raha hai or not Roshni, rather I am ‘kam aqal’ but what exactly is the problem between these two? I mean, yes she overheard the conversation Talal and Laali had and well she got to know what he thought of her – straight from the horse’s mouth! So, would it not be logical that she would be hurt and question his feelings and intentions? Then why the arrogance and anger on Talal’s part that she should not question anything. Not questioning would be being ‘kam aqal’ or demanding to know what those words meant is? How about a simple conversation where they could come clean about their thoughts – heck, I could pen the lines down for them since words seem to not be their best friends right now. Talal seeks Roshni out like a never ending game of cat and mouse only to hurl insults at her and she has wept most of these episodes away, like a very weepy Rudolph!! I was less than impressed about his anger on their wedding night although I do have to say it was actually nice and different how they bothered offered their prayers together. Realistic or not, it still left me with a nice feeling.

So as illogical as the strain between these two is, it appears Tania’s story seems to have snapped Roshni out of her misery. No clue how that has helped but I hope things get better now and Talal has a better apology/explanation for his behaviour for being curt is one thing but questioning one’s intelligence repeatedly and putting them down is another.

I know I went on like tweety bird about how I liked this drama and I still do but I do think maybe I enjoyed it more because I had the chance to binge watch it. Also, probably because before I tuned in and decided to review it (which automatically awakens my Midas touch), nobody was having this many tantrums. Now Roshni, Talal, Saif all seem to be acting up. I would like a bit more focus on Laali and Mustafa now as I was fast losing patience with Talal. I found myself looking forward to Khurram’s scenes because yes he adds humor to the drama but I like how he has a much more sane and logical head on his shoulders than Talal and how he can tune in to others’ emotions and not be tagged with the constant joker label. Even though Faris Shafi’s drawl and acting seem quite typical in each drama (not that I quite mind to be honest), I like how I could feel myself get truly annoyed with his selfishness. He often passes off as quite ‘masoom’ in his acting and till now his only (albeit a big one) fault had been that he was weak and preferred to listen to his mother and sisters over his wife but now when he has taken the reins in his own hands, he has not managed to redeem himself at all rather just seems to have sunk even lower.

It appears as if The Bratzz (Saif & Co.) are all out to wreak further havoc in the lives of the members of Sikander villa. Looking forward to seeing how Mustafa tackles the Laali-Saif issue and what exactly Tania has to say to Talal and whether she manages to get the chance to talk to him. The drama seems to be heading towards its end which would a decent time to end it I feel. What did you all think of these episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Laughter and Donations – Now That’s Charity!

This Saturday evening witnessed a surprising yet appreciative turnout at the PACC where people in hundreds, came to watch a group of 24 comedians – new, old, single or in groups- including Pakistan’s very own Saad Haroon, the acclaimed second funniest man in the world and the radio jockey for the popular FM 89’s The Breakfast Show.

The event was held in order to raise proceeds for the Edhi Foundation, as a six hour long charity comedy marathon.

‘Smile Till Sehri’ was perhaps a most brilliant initiative taken by these performers for two major reasons.

For one, it provided these stage comedians with an incredible platform to showcase their talent and style, especially for those who hadn’t performed ever before, so that both the artist and the audience were able to experience and enjoy the tenacity of comedy like never before and the former could finally receive the appreciation he/she deserved at a bigger scale signalling a thumbs-up for keeping up their motivation and hard work.

Secondly, the idea was two-way charity flow, since the audience was able to contribute by attending the show and the performers were in exchange able to spread smiles and infuse contagious laughter among the viewers.

Some of the most awe-inspiring and memorable performances came from Umar Ahamd, Faheem Azam, (more commonly known as Faheem bhai since his act revolves around the insider’s perspective of Pathans), Ayesha Tariq giving a stage-play of her conversation with a PTCL representative; Osama Sami, Annie Shamim and Tabish Hashmi and last but most definitely not the least, Akbar Chaudhary.

One of the troupes that performed, called themselves The Improv Army, mentored by Hassan Bin Shaheen (who performed solely too) and comprising of girls with ages ranges from 17-19 years old, in training for a year. They were widely acknowledged by the audience as one of the most hilarious acts of the show.

Faiza Saleem was in full form and delivered the most from The Khawatoon troupe.
Undoubtedly there is both a demand and supply of comedic talent within our country that just needs to be given more opportunities like these in order to soar greater heights. Our television viewers often complain of the lack of proper humor in our drama serials and the absence of the production of such shows. With proper implementation, support and funds, we can tremendously enjoy the untapped reserve of original content and good jokes that awaits its access to larger audiences.

Amir Khan finally reconcile with family!

Boxer Amir Khan has made his people proud and has garnered special places in their hearts. As every one is familiar with the dirty feud that went down between his wife and his family. To give you an insight on the back story it all started when his wife Faryal Makhdoom accused her in laws of abusing her and even persuading Amir to divorce her when she was pregnant with their daughter.

Amir Khan finally reconcile with family!

Amir’s family denied the allegations but Faryal moved it further by leaking Amir’s brother inappropriate picture on her snapchat labeling them hypocrites. Both sides appeared on different channels and expressed their accusations and views.

Amir Khan finally reconcile with family!

Things went quiet after this and now Amir has patched up with his family. According to him his wife played a very big role in this and convinced him that life is too short. He told his fans:

“My dad and I at the Pak v Ind cricket match last weekend. We both had a great time together. Faryal and I decided to put everything behind us. She played a big part in helping me move forward. Life is too short.”

He further added, “It’s the month of Ramadan. This is the month Allah asks us to clean our hearts and love one another. A lot has happened but my wife and I have accepted to move forward with a clean heart. We hope to expect the same from others. Ameen.”

All we can do is wish the family best of luck and pray that their feuds if may occur again stay away from the public’s eye kyunki bhai dunya buss tamasha dekhti hai!

Yeh Raha Dil Episode 18 Review – Intelligent Piece of Writing!

Ohkay so, this episode of Yeh Raha Dil was amazing as usual. I loved how the writer gave all these justifications for different scenarios, like without putting any character in a bad light, the writer just explained what they went through in the past. I must say it is a rarity these days for writers to be so intelligent to justify everyone’s actions without giving any reason to the viewers to judge any character. The writer Mustafa Afridi here deserves full marks for giving us such an amazing script in which we’re getting to understand every character & not once we found a chance to develop detest for anyone. The way the pages of the past were turned in this episode made me love this drama even more because whatever happened was in-line with everyone’s character.

So, Hayat decided to take the next step forward & she announced that both Nida & Zaki should get engaged as she wants to get over with this phase as soon as possible because she is tired of feeling guilty & she is also tired of dreading that Zaki might say something to Nida or his family. Hayat is just doing everything like a responsible elder sibling but in the middle of this chaos, she is unable to read Nida & her intentions.

I feel Nida is going overboard, like at one hand she dreads that Zaki might insult her in front of everyone but then on the other, she is going with the flow & is happily pressurizing him to do something which she doesn’t want. For a moment I felt that Nida was only doing everything to get the truth out of Zaki but then I was reminded that he already told her everything, yes he hasn’t told her who he is in love with, but despite knowing everything, Nida is pushing all the wrong buttons. I think Nida should realize that by the end of the day, she will end up hurting herself more, so it’s time for her to pick herself up & move on.

I absolutely loved the backstory of Zaki & Nida, like not that I am a fan of their couple but I am saying I loved how it was revealed in such a convincing manner. I must say the writer should be applauded for keeping all the characters true to their nature from the beginning till this point of the drama because everything, everyone has done so far is completely in sync with their personality & not even a single character has done anything which would’ve made us feel that we were watching a different person altogether. We all were introduced to Zaki as a soft & kind-hearted individual who despite not wanting to would walk an extra mile for anyone, he did the same with Hayat when he was in Nepal because at that point he couldn’t stand Hayat but still he kept on helping her because that’s his nature, so now his niceness was costing him a huge price which Nida was trying to make him pay. I loved how the writer connected everything so seamlessly, because in the very first meeting that Haroon had with Nida, it was mentioned that Zaki once tried his hands on fashion photography, so I was actually pleasantly surprised how that minute detail was put into good use to show that only because of Zaki’s short-lived passion, he crossed paths with Nida.

As the story has progressed, we have seen how Nida is impulsive, controlling but also quite a lonely person that is why she ended up confusing Zaki’s friendship & courtesy as his love. Nida met Zaki when she hit the rock bottom & just because Zaki was being nice to her, basically just because Zaki was being himself, Nida misconstrued it as something else & then formed a relationship based on her own assumptions. I loved loved loved how without putting anyone in a bad light, the writer revealed everything at the right time. I must say I feel the director also deserved full points here for keeping everything so simple & seamless because of which we are able to understand these little intricacies that the writer has added in his script. It is quite intelligent of Mustafa Afridi to tackle a character like Nida in such an amazing way because very easily people would’ve started seeing her as a Negative Nancy but nope, the more we get to see her, the more we get to know that she is like that for a reason & she behaves a certain way for a reason too. Nida imposing her self-assumed relationship on Zaki was so like her & then Zaki accepting Nida’s request was again so like him. It is absolutely amazing how they showed Zaki/Hayat track in Nepal because now when Zaki was explaining everything starting from how he met Nida to how he kept on consoling her & how he continued being courteous towards her, I immediately connected everything & realized that’s how Zaki is as this is exactly how he treated Hayat in Nepal too when he just couldn’t stand her but couldn’t ignore her either, so Nida made the most of this trait of Zaki. Another thing that the writer connected was how Nida is used to guilt-tripping people, she is doing it with Hayat now & she has done that with Zaki in the past as well where she used her emotional fragility as a trap to make Zaki feel the guilt if he ever decided to leave her!

It was actually quite interesting how the writer here drew a thin line & justified Zaki’s feelings for Hayat by showing that even though Zaki treated both the girls the same way, there was a difference because one girl herself started everything & imposed herself on him & the other didn’t do that, that’s why Zaki on his own fell in love with her. Zaki’s love for Hayat was justified even more because all this while we thought that just because Haroon told Zaki that Hayat is compatible with him, Zaki fell in love with her but that isn’t the case anymore, Zaki actually wasn’t in love with Nida in the first place & all this while, there was a place in his heart which was filled with the love that he felt for Hayat, that is why he grew out of the ‘courtesy’ that he had for Nida just so easily.

It was sad that Hayat chose not to believe in Zaki, even though she was moved & touched by what she heard but now that she already has put her mind to it, she is going to make sure to do everything to give her sister what she wants. Seeing Zaki’s condition also reminded me of the conversation that both Nida & Jimmy had about him, where they compared Zaki with Tabrez & said he was gullible. Indeed, Nida knows that Zaki is gullible because he put up with everything that Nida demanded till date, that is why she is keen on not letting him go. I knew that Hayat will eventually use Hassan for this matter & with Hassan trying to be cordial with Hayat, she won’t shy away from asking for such a favor from him as well.

Overall, this episode was one of the best episodes of Yeh Raha Dil & the entire credit goes to the writer for bringing out the past in such a convincing manner which changed everything, like this episode helped the viewers understand the characters even more & it is commendable how till date, not even a single character looks negative or unrealistic. The director & the actors deserve a lot of credit too for doing justice to such a beautiful script. If it’s a Mustafa Afridi drama, you’ll know that quirky dialogues are always going to be a part of every other conversation, so the one that made me laugh out loud was ‘tumhara to baap bhi shadi karega’, ‘oh ho sorry, mere muh se nikal gaya tha’, lol! I loved how Haroon was sympathzing with Zaki all this while because he knows that his son is in a deep trouble & even Haroon can’t do much about it. This episode was amazing & I can’t wait to see the next episode already. Please share your thoughts about this amazing episode of Yeh Raha Dil.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Novel review- Wo Jo Qarz Rkhte The

Aspiring to be a novelist one day myself I seem to be indulged in pretty much every book that interests me. You can call me that ‘Kitabi Keera’, or, since we happen to be, existing in a ‘tech world’ label me as ‘Tablet Keera’, who is seen mostly hidden under the cover reading their favorite books at night hours, despite being aware of all the cons they might endure for not sleeping on time. Swollen eyes, hair fall, dark circle or what not! But, who cares, as these books are so much more to us than these imperfections and, besides these are the imperfections that make us human! So next time anyone makes fun of your swollen eyes, don’t let them get to your heart- roll your eyes, sit back and turn the page to know what’s going on in the lives of your favorite characters, with a smile.

Now that I’m a book worm let me just admit that I like to re-read things depending on the intensity it touched my heart with. So, while I was re-downloading ‘Wo Jo Qarz Rakhte The’ in my tablet yesterday an idea hit upon my cranium to write a review on it, just so that I might share the beautiful journey I went through while I was mused in the world of ‘Saad’ and ‘Fari.’

The story starts with Fariya, a very young aged girl weeping at the misery of her parent’s death in a car accident, while she’s been told about her maternal grandfather by her family’s beloved maid. The story progresses with her going back to Pakistan along with her grandfather, living a life of dismay with her grandparent as she still has not gotten over the fact that she wouldn’t ever get back to her homeland. However, with time, things get better as she befriends with a two years elder guy who keeps on explaining and advising her for having an optimistic outlook on life, his forthright attitude and the way he perceive things and the sincerity he shows towards her makes them the best of friend.

Over the years she gets better and better by the constant care of her grandmother and her only best friend, yet, she is still not aware of the sternness his Grandpa shows towards her. Fast forwarding, she gets to know the truth by her mother’s only best friend ‘Anjumand aunty’ who came to visit her after 10 long years. And then the story revolves around Fariya, Saad, Zufishan(Fariya’s mother), Fariya’s father and then the grumpy grandpa who’s not really grumpy and sweet as sugar Grandma.

Overall the story which might seem quite simple has charm in its simplicity. The way Farhat ishtiaq has molded her thoughts onto the piece of paper is worth being praised for. Honestly, she has become one of my go-to writers whom I can read almost all day. The writing style that she owns in which she converts the simplest of stories into something that attains a special place in our heart explains her evolved and refined writing skills. ‘Wo Jo Qarz Rkhte The’ is a story of sacrifice, forgiveness and love that stays for eternity. The way Fariya sacrifices her love just so that her grandpa might forgive her mother and how her mother missed her father even though she had everything made me realize the strong ties we have with our parent. And even if we try to scratch them out from our lives, it would be our souls that would end up being crushed into million pieces.

The touch of poetry in the latter part of the novel when Fariya is described as missing her childhood is so beautiful that even I started missing it. Lol :P and the relative utilization of the classic old aged stories were poignant, and very much in accordance with the situation.

I guess the story is quite predictable yet Farhat’s subtle approach and unique sense of writing made the novel, Hmmm, what should I call it?? A must read? Well… I guess it’s in between a guilty pleasure and a must read! Yet I wouldn’t mind recommending it to you guys, as the novel was really worth my time. And to all those who end up cursing me for wasting your money for not being happy with the ending, I recommend you to become a ‘tablet’ or a ‘smart phone Keera’ just like me, so that you wouldn’t get to spend your money on the book.

Hope you guys liked the review. Let me know if there’s any novel you’d like to be reviewed by me and do forgive me if I forgot anything special as I read it a year or two back. Don’t forget to share your thoughts, let’s rewind back to the time when we first read the novel.

Stay blessed!
Mariam Sheikh

Team Green For The Semi-Finals!

Team Green For The Semi-Finals!

After a nail-biting, heart-stopping match, the Pakistan Cricket Team proved itself victorious over Sri Lanka and grabbed a spot in the semi-finals tonight, for the ICC World Champions Trophy.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to ball first, and the first innings resulted in the team restricting Sri Lanka to 236 runs; not entirely a bad score to boot. Junaid Khan and Hasan Ali claimed three wickets each whereas Amir and Fahim took in two.

The second innings were not entirely a smooth ride and by the end of nearly 30th over, the score was only reduced to 162 with 7 wickets already been taken in by the Sri lankan team. Nevertheless, the green players stood their ground and pacer Amir played an incredible supporting hand with the captain to chase down the target of 75 runs after the 45th over.

Team Green For The Semi-Finals!

The home run was made by Sarfraz (who made a total of 51 runs in the match) with a shot of 4 closing the last quarter-final with a tremendous finish.

Pakistan is now due to face England on Wednesday, for the first semi-final of the ICC.

Our heartiest congratulations go out to the team and our fingers are crossed for day-after-tomorrow’s verdict.

What are your thoughts on the match? Write away in the comments!

Sana Bucha Puts Shahid Afridi In An Awkward Position

Shahid Afridi is one of the most revered celebrities in Pakistan. Although, cricketers land into controversies all the time but he is one of those few cricketers who never landed in a controversy. This is one of the main reasons why he is respected by everyone; people who watch cricket and even those who do not watch cricket know that Lala is the pride of Pakistan. Shahid Afridi is also known for his charitable causes and for always keeping a low profile in public. He is hardly ever seen in get togethers and even when he is part of such parties he makes sure he presents himself in a graceful way.

Sana Bucha hosted a Sehr Party for her celebrity friends and Shahid Afridi was also invited to the party. When Sana Bucha posted the pictures of the party people on instagram were after her and some of them also said things about Shahid Afridi because Sana Bucha was standing close to him in these pictures.

Indian Filmmaker Exploiting Sania Mirza’s Picture Is Extremely Disrespectful!

The Bollywood filmmaker, Ram Gopal Verma who is mostly infamous for his nasty and unacceptable comments on women shared a picture of Indian tennis player Sania Mirza (who is also the wife of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik) while playing Tennis and hence her inners are visible.

The fact that out of a thousand pictures of one of India’s most celebrated players, he decided to use an offensive photo without her permission to gain attention is absolutely disgusting. Sharing such an offensive picture of anyone especially a woman is definitely unacceptable.

Indian Filmmaker Exploiting Sania Mirza’s Picture Is Extremely Disrespectful!

He shared the picture with the caption, “A girl told someone, MBSLBCI reminded her of, though she was very good at Tennis her father refused to permit her to play beyond a age because she will have to wear skirts ..The film is about exposing these regressive minds who use a girl’s sexuality against herself.”

Ram Gopal Verma really needs to respect an individual’s privacy, he’s getting thrashed on social media fo sharing a pic of Sania without her consent.

Amjad Sabri’s first death Anniversary!

No doubt time flies. Last year in the auspicious month of Ramadan ul Mubarak Pakistan lost it’s legendary Qawwali singer Amjad Sabri to target killing in Karachi. Sabri was loved by all and had a personality that touches your heart deep with in. It was 16th Ramadan when he was shot while going to an aftari transmission.

Amjad Sabri's first death Anniversary!

He will stay in our hearts and his vocals will always remain alive. Today marks his first death anniversary but did he get justice? Yes he got coverage and love he deserved but did the state get the justice he should have got. The best thing Pakistani government and people would have done for him would be providing him justice. That would have been the absolute token of love for the legend but an year has passed and his assassins still wander independently on the streets. In the end Even Benazir Bhutto never got justice and she was the Ex Prime Minister of Pakistan. We pray that May Allah shower his blessings on Amjad and his family and provide him with a place in Jannah! He will always be remembered!

Pakistan Like You’ve Never Seen it Before

A few weeks ago I accidentally stumbled onto an Instagram account and I have not been able to stop thinking about it. Every busy street I walk on, every dhabba I pass by, every crumbling building are now big, bold and breathtaking settings for a future unlike the one I could’ve ever imagined.

Sci-Fi has always been the genre with the most stunning visual effects. A genre of societies to come, shiny gadgets and alien invasions, it showed us a future completely unlike our present but movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Men in Black made it feel like a possibility because they featured scenes shot in places bursting with life even today.

I was never much into ski-fi. Maybe because my imagination never let me go broad enough into a world of battleships and light-sabers. Maybe I just couldn’t see a future like that, it all felt too distant and too foreign. But Omar Gillani, an artist from Peshawar, managed to turn our very own home country into the extraordinary future we could see ourselves in and has proved that we need a sci-fi movie set in Pakistan. Take a look for yourself!

Our vivid trucks, neon signs and narrow streets that snake through the city taking you to homes and monuments that tell tales of days past, the rich history of the subcontinent and the tokens it has left us surprisingly makes a remarkable setting for the future, our future. As well produced American sci-fi films are, they can never relate to us the way a movie shot in our alleys and animated by the hands of our countrymen could.  And let me tell you, we need sci-fi movies. Not only are they a wonder to look at but they actually help us to explore human nature in a new setting and look at our society with fresh eyes. The future is used to examine issues we face today and the path that we’re on. Using dystopian and tyrannical states, sci-fi movies give us a snapshot of what could be if we don’t handle the problems we face today properly.

Science fiction also has the ability to help us accept change. By showing us a future where society functions differently, it allows us to envision a future that we want and how we can work towards it. Many things that were considered fictional in the early 90’s are now a reality that we live everyday. We can walk on the moon, chat about the weather with friends thousands of miles away and access all human knowledge from a device in our pant pockets. Science fiction not only helps us accept change but it also inspires change and can support our stubborn Pakistani nation in moving away from the past that we’re stuck in. When Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Uhura, thought about leaving the Star Trek series, Martin Luther King Jr convinced her not to by saying that ‘her inclusion on Star Trek was important because, as a black woman, she helped represent a future people could aspire to, one where people were judged solely on the content of their character.‘ And when Nichols spoke out against NASA for only hiring white, male astronauts, she was invited to their headquarters and was asked to convince former female applicants to apply, leading to the recruitment of Sally Ride, who became NASA’s first female astronaut, and Guion Bluford, the first African American astronaut. That is the power that lies behind this genre.

Scientist Isaac Asimov, on the importance of science fiction, said: ‘It is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today. No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be…Science fiction writers foresee the inevitable, and although problems and catastrophes may be inevitable, solutions are not. Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today – but the core of science fiction, its essence…has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all’. More than anything right now, that is what our country needs. Not Ramadan transmissions, routine love stories or party boys on a vacation abroad. We need a movie with spectacular pieces of art like Omar Gilani’s, a world beyond the normal and change. We desperately need change.

Science fiction can allow us to test the limits of what we believe and what we can perceive. Works like those of Omar Gilani’s, show that Pakistan has the potential to be one of the most intriguing futuristic societies and I, for one to would love to see a movie explore all we are and can be. How about you?
