Kahi Unkahi Episode 9 – Loving it!

0

I am already loving the drama as it if moving further. Today’s episode had less flaws but more originality but I feel they should have clarified a bit more about Ansar & Seema’s relation because it really seemed fishy.

Ansar has finally gotten married to a very nice down-to-earth girl Mariam. I claim that she is down-to-earth especially because of her behavior towards Zoya, the way she appreciated her, the way she became friends with her was something brilliant & wasn’t monotonous to see another rich snobbish lady treating Zoya badly.

It was a much needed message that had to be conveyed to Mr. Kamal in regards to Zoya. I loved when Sherry said to Mariam that he wishes she could change the thinking of Mr. Kamal so that Zoya can take a sigh of relief. But I must say that Zoya looked pretty both the days. She is one such lady who with or without makeup looks beautiful.

Now we can see that Sherry is intimidated by Anam & just blindly follows her because he knows she is incourteous but for now he has strong feelings for Zoya, be it in a since of pity or some old feelings related to their childhood but just to see them both in the same frame brings a smile on my face. It is going to be another war which Zoya would have to face when Sherry will fall for her because we see how Anam & her mother have already even planned the wedding. They are not easily going to let Sherry go to Zoya.

Shahzeb’s mother & Mrs. Pervaiz once again got to degrade Zoya just because she was serving the drinks. Everyone should understand that she is just helping Mrs. Kamal by sharing the burden of her chores but she is not the maid of the house because no one sends their maids to University for doing MBBS. Shahzeb’s encoutner with her mother was poorly done, he claims that he is going to wait for Zoya’s answer whereas he never popped a question of getting married in front of her ever. To Zoya that episode of Shahzeb & his family is over but seems like he is still waiting for her in the circumstance where she is totally oblivious. Shahzeb should first convince his mother & sisters & then approach Zoya but looks like it’s the other way round that too in a wrong sense

Sheheryaar Munawwar has done a great job & I feel he is well-suited for this role & he looks perfect with Ayza Khan. They both make a perfect lead couple. I am totally loving this drama like many others.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

The Most Memorable Characters Of 2012

0

The year 2012 was absolutely fabulous in terms of good quality dramas, the year started off with bidding farewell to some unforgettable plays like Hamsafar and Maat and just when we thought that Pakistani dramas could not get any better we were very soon hooked to plays like Durr-e-Shehwar, Bilquess Kaur and Shehr-e-Zaat. There were plays like Ek Nazar Meri Taraf, Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai, Thakaan, Annie Ki Aye Gi Baraat and Kuch Pyar Ka Pagal Pan which glued the audience to the TV screens. I already talked about the hits and misses of 2012 in my previous article, so now I would like to talk about some of the characters in the plays of 2012 that will never be forgotten and their memories are etched in my mind forever. Here is a list of some awe inspiring characters from 2012.

abbaSami Sahib From Durr-e-Shehwar:

Anyone who watched the play Durr-e-Shehwar must have fallen in love with Abba’s letters and the heart felt conversations that Durr-e-Shehwar had with her father. Despite of his fears and worries for his daughter Sami sahib knew that with his support his daughter will be able to pass gracefully through a very problematic phase of life. Mohammad Ahmed played this role beautifully and every second girl wanted that she should have access to Sami sahib’s letters in order to keep her strong during difficult times. A very kind, just, brave, loving and adorable character etched out superbly by non other than Umera Ahmed.

aimenAimen from Maat:

Yes, she was too good to be true and little did we know that there will be a line of such characters after this play but I remember that at the time when I was watching Maat, Aimen came across as a very loving sister, who I wanted should win at all costs. Aminah Sheikh impressed us all with her acting skills in Maat and portrayed the character perfectly.

siffatSiffat from Ek Nazar Meri Taraf:

There was a time when I felt like the play Ek Nazar Meri Taraf was being stretched unnecessarily but I have to admit that while I was watching this play Siffat’s character seemed so real that I found myself worrying for her, forgetting that it was just a character in a drama. Siffat was innocent, vulnerable and in a very difficult situation. Alishba Yusef nailed the character right from the start and I have never seen her crying so much on screen. Honestly speaking, there was no other character that made me cry so much all through the year.

nanni

Naani From Shehr-e-Zaat:

Naani’s dialogues from Shehr-e-Zaat gave us a lot to think about and an opportunity to reflect upon things that we generally do not give a second thought to. Naani was gentle, caring and had so many pearls of wisdom to share with her viewers. Samina Peerzada has to be everyone’s favorite nani and I am no different; she is very graceful and extremely talented. Naani’s character was excellently conceived and brilliantly acted out, one that would stay with us for a very long time.

bilquessBilquees Kaur from Bilquees kuar:

Bilquess Kaur always came across as a very dominating and controlling woman who would have done anything to make her kids stay under one roof. Bushra Ansari played the Sikhni, who converted to Islam, married to a seemingly docile Muslim husband but also kept her Sikh values intact. There were times when we felt for Bilquees because she seemed like a very sensitive person who longed to be loved just like anyone else but there were many many times when Bilquees just seemed like a very selfish woman. The truth revealed in the end changed how we felt about Bilqeuess altogether. The story may have had loopholes and the ending may have seemed rushed to many but overall Bilquess Kaur’s character was a very unique one. Faiza Iftikhar deserves due credit for etching out such a multi-faceted character.

uroojUrooj From Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley:

Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley started off on a very positive note and we all loved Urooj’s character until he fell victim to the storyline. Urooj was confident despite of his disabilities and Shehryaar Munawar completely won us over with his acting and charm. When Urooj was truned into a mere caricature, we all felt gravely led down but it was great while it lasted and this is another character that I will remember for a very long time.

saimaSaima Chaudhry From Annie Ki Aye Gi Baraat:

I never followed Annie Ki Aye Gi Barat very religiously but whenever I did it was because I needed a dose of laughter which only Saima Chaudhry, the designer from Faislabad could guarantee. Buhsra Ansari has proven to be the queen of the comedy time and again and this character suited her perfectly. Saima chaudhry’s go for it and get it approach was also one of the reasons why I liked her so much and really enjoyed the character.

minahilMinahil From Tishnagi:

Tishnagi was one of those plays that you just catch on-screen by chance and you get hooked on it without even realizing it. Minahil was played to perfection by Sarwat Gillani. Minahil was a strong and determined girl who did everything in her power to save her marriage. Although the ending of the play was very disappointing but Minahil’s character was one of the few good characters in 2012.

All the characters I mentioned are from the plays that ended in 2012, please feel free to add to the list and also share your opinion about the characters that are there in the list. I am quite certain that this New Year will give us some more lovable and memorable characters. I already like so many of them. We are truly blessed to have some very gifted writers, directors, producers and actors who bring us wholesome entertainment all through the year.

Mera Pehla Pyar Episode 9 – Review

0

Episode 9 continues with University life. Ziad is trying to get Taha to talk to Maira about him and Taha is clearly hesitant because he too has feelings for Maira. However being the good friend Taha is, he talks to Maira and she was under the impression that Taha would confess his feelings for her. Maira, completely disregarding Ziad, professes her feelings for Taha, reiterating that looks are nothing in front of good manners and kindness. Taha is clearly happy that the feelings are mutual. Bechara Ziad though…upon hearing this, he decides to settle for Ayesha.

Speaking of Ayesha, I don’t think I’ve actually met anyone more selfish then her even in real life. She doesn’t even want Taha to attend the same University as her, but as soon as she finds out that 1) he is always seen with Maira and 2) that these two will be performing together at the farewell party, she wants him to perform with him. I was aghast at the way she gave an ultimatum to Taha that he hasn’t signed any Nikah papers with Maira, take his name off the list and perform with her. Well madam, he did sign Nikah papers with you and look where it got him!! On top of that she still is the same selfish Ayesha. She thinks they are all trying to keep Hira away by not taking her calls. She clearly has no shame is admitting “ek to mein itna kam phone karti hoon Hira se baat karne…” UGH! I haven’t yet met a mother like her and I hope I never do.

The university life flashback ends when Maira doesn’t show up for the farewell party. Taha was apparently telling Hira about Aunty Maira and university life. Hira is sad that ‘Romeo aur Juliet ka drama adhoora reh gaya.” Why would you want a complete Romeo and Juliet drama? Doesn’t she know that they both die at the end? Khaire, Hira tells Dado that she heard the story of Maira Aunty that grandpa was also in it. Dado asks grandpa and he reminds her that ‘aap ki wajeh se Taha ne Maira ka haath chor ke Ayesha ka haath pakra.” Here is my question though. If Maira never showed up for the farewell and Taha never heard from heer again, when did Taha leave her for Ayesha? Did I miss something? Anyways, Dado decides to help Hira find Maira Aunty. She also wants Taha to get married again; a thought to which he adamantly contests.

We also see Zara in this episode. Apparently she needs to go home and her car is broke. Taha offers to take since he forgot his laptop. The plan is to swing by Taha’s then Zara’s and then come back to the office. Zara meets Hira and Aunty for the first time and tries to score points with Hira.  I know this is mean, but I enjoyed Hira’s attitude towards Zara. Aunty ne bhi aunties wali he baat k waise…shadi hui hai? Nahi, per abhi tak kyoon nahi hui? Way to completely invade someone’s privacy…and that too when you are meeting them for the first time.  Dear Desi Aunties, please learn to respect people’s privacy…Thank You! I’m glad Hira didn’t like Zara either J. She is again trying way to hard and that too after getting rejected so badly.

The episode ends with Dado and Hira going to meet Dado’s friend. As they are going up the stairs in the apartment complex, Hira sees Maira come down and recognizes her. It was a nice and light episode. I like Hira and Dada’s comical moments when she asks him ke Aunty feroza ka kya chakkar hai.” The relationship between Hira and her grandparents is a treat to watch. Dado is really doing her best to be a mother figure in Hira’s life and is succeeding well. I wish divorced families are watching this and learning a lesson as to how to deal with the kids and raise them in a positive atmosphere. As always all the characters have performed fabulously, however Sheheryar Zaidi and Laila Zuberi were my favorite in this episode. Again, well done Team Mera Pehla Pyar!!

Tanhaiyaan Nayee Silsilay Episode 10 – Kabaacha You Are Adorable!

Kabaacha is too cute and adorable for words and I may have said this before but I have to say it again that only Behroz Sabzwari could have done such a brilliant job of portraying such a difficult character. Kabaacha may love Saniya a lot but he is not selfish, he wants Saniya to be happy even if it means she marries Iftikhar. Kabaacha may have many flaws but I have to say Saniya is truly blessed to have someone like him to love her; I would really like it if Saniya has a change of heart and the two live happily ever after. Although for now all this seems next to impossible.

It was so good to see Faraan uncle resolving Kabaacha’s problems and even nicer to see him ignoring Saniya’s lies which she is telling so that she could avoid the marriage. Saniya is trying her best to convince her family that she actually wants to marry Iftikhar but no one is being fooled although they are playing along with it all.

Zeenia is still not sure whether she wants to stay in Pakistan or not and I absolutely love Zarak’s attitude. He is optimistic and has faith in his love for Zeenia. He is most certainly one of his kind too, very liberal but also much attached to his country. Zarak’s life takes an ugly turn in today’s episode and the moment I heard the news, I started wondering how Zeenia would react to it. She is already so scared of staying in Pakistan and after such an incident she will be even more convinced that this country is not the safest place to live in. or will she decide to stay by Zarak’s side now that he needs her the most? For now Zeenia’s biggest concern is Zarak’s safety but what Zarak had to say in response to Zeenia’s question was not at all like him. I would not expect someone so positive to even think about taking someone’s life; I have a feeling that his plan does not include killing anyone.

Kishmish finds out Kabaacha’s “masterpiece” and shared the details with Serena instantly. The scene in which he tells his father about the ‘script’ was too cute. I find it hilarious the way Kabaacha can never figure these things out; like the time he was wondering just how Faraan uncle knew that his love life was in trouble and won’t tell him the name of the girl he loved! Kabaacha is one person who never bores me and I would like to see Behroze Sabzwari doing more comedy roles.

This latest episode had bits and pieces of everyone’s life, like all the previous episodes and I really enjoyed watching each of these characters on screen. The part where Iftikhar tells Saniya how someone told everyone about the marriage via facebook was also very interesting. I am waiting to find out how Zarak avenges his parents’ and uncle’s death and now I am really into the Zarak/Zeenia track as well, hoping that Zeenia will accept Zarak and living in the country whole heartedly.

Aik Nayee Cinderella Episode 10 – Acceptance and Confessions

0

This show always manages to bring a smile to my face. Its concept is so refreshing and different from the other shows. The female lead is strong headed but naive at the same time. This combination makes her character even more adorable. She refuses to be intimidated by anybody and this is what I like about Meesha’s character. The whole episode was based on her dilemma. She was confused about her feelings. She kept on wondering why she was not sad now that Mayer was getting married to Zaini. She was not upset at the prospect of losing her love. But was it love in the first place? Roman answered her question when she shared her confusion with him. ‘Maybe your heart belongs to someone else now and that is why you are not affected by their marriage’. This made Meesha question her own feelings.

Today’s episode made the contrast between Mayer and Roman even more clear. Roman had loved Meesha since the beginning, even before she had any clue that he even existed, he fell in love with her just the way she was; simple and sweet. He helped her in every possible way to win over Mayer when he himself loved her so much. He always cared for her and could do anything for her happiness without expecting anything in return. Dado was the only one to recognize his feelings and she also thinks that he is the perfect guy for Meesha. Mayer fell in love with his ‘mystery‘ girl because he found her different from the rest, he was running after an illusion that he had created of that girl and Meesha never fit into that image and that is why he could not recognize her as the same girl he had met that day at the jheel. He could never notice a simple girl like Meesha. Zaini, however, did match the image he had created and so he considered her to be that girl. The truth was finally revealed by Aimee who spilled the beans and exposed Zaini’s lie. Mayer finally got to know the real girl was Meesha. Mayer is acting like a selfish person who at first played with Meesha’s feelings to make Zaini jealous and now expects her to accept his love after the truth is revealed. He proposed to her and fully expected her to say yes. He seemed pretty confident that she would agree. He had given her time to think because of her lack of response.

Meesha is again confused at her own reaction, she should be happy and overwhelmed but instead she feels sad and empty. She can now have everything she has ever wished for; her prince charming, a palace and to be treated like a princess. Then what is stopping her from being happy? The first person that comes to her mind is Roman and she runs off to tell him about Mayer’s proposal but she finally finds the answer to all her questions when she is about to tell Roman about Mayer. The sudden realization and unbelievable truth shocked her to the core; she was not happy because her happiness was in someone else. Someone who had always been there for her and with whom she shared all her worries, happiness and sorrows. Her true love was none other than Roman. This was my favorite scene of the episode. When she asks Roman to close his eyes and she looks at him and suddenly realizes how much she loves him.

Roman finally knows that Meesha reciprocates his feelings. He knows her so well that he could easily read her face and recognize her feelings for him. He had never confessed to her because he did not want to shatter her dreams. She had dreamed of a handsome prince, with a palace and he was a mere popper who had nothing to give her except his love. Dado encouraged him to confess his feelings for Meesha as she always wanted her to marry a man who loved her dearly.

Now coming to the funniest part of the episode; I must say, Aimee and Farjad are perfect for each other, they look extremely cute together. I am really happy for Aimee. Their scenes always manage to make you laugh. Also, the scene where Meesha informed Dado that Roman was a fairy man and the expression on Dado’s face at this news was comical. Poor woman could not believe her ears! It is high time now that Meesha gets to know the truth. Her naivety and simplicity is cute and funny.
Will Meesha reject Mayer and go back to Roman? What will be her reaction when she finds out that Roman has been lying to her all this time? I cannot wait for the next episode now!

Coke Kahani Episode 8 – Jealousy and Possessiveness

0

Another perfect episode! Everyone is trying their best to patch things up between Asfand and Maya but all their plans are backfiring. First it was Saad’s letter and Beydil’s pathetic shayari and now the oldest trick in the book: Jealousy.
Maya and her jealousy was a treat to watch. She was shocked to see Nazia at her house and talking about Asfand as if she knew him very well. She tried her best not to show her jealousy but her expressions told another story. Nazia was sent there by Mutmain Sahab (she is the same tenant he is flirting with all the time). Poor Asfand doesn’t even know her. The scene where Maya asks about Nazia from Asfand and Asfand’s clueless expressions was hilarious and the blame game after that from Nawab to Zoya to Mutmain Sahab was too good. Mutmain Sahab had set this whole thing up to make Maya jealous and possessive about Asfand. She did get very possessive and kept asking about Nazia indirectly from Asfand. I really hope this strategy does not backfire and create more misunderstanding between Asfand and Maya.

After watching this episode, I have a feeling Asfand was at fault more than Maya. We saw Maya reminding him of his mistakes. He never gave any time to his family, he was so busy with his own life mainly his restaurant. He was never there for Maya when she needed him the most. Asfand also realizes that he was at fault and tells her to forget everything and start over. They have finally started to open up about their feelings and this is one step forward for clearing the misunderstandings. Things will sort out if they just talk about it instead of giving each other the silent treatment. They both have spent the hardest time of their lives alone. Will it be easy for them to forget 16 years of hard feelings and heartache and accept each other again?

Now coming to the best part of the episode! Nusrat and Mutmain Sahab were the highlight of the episode. Nusrat has finally started her university and the way Mutmain Sahab treats her made me laugh. The best scene of the episode for me was when he was sending his ‘wife‘ to university and instructing her like a small kid. Their chemistry is just amazing! Hats off to both of them!

Zoya’s efforts have paid off and she is finally launching the revamped restaurant. The scene where Maria comes to ask about Beydil’s salary was extremely cute. I pity both Maria and Ruqaiya. The guys they both like are too thick in the head to realize how much these two girl like them. One is the biggest flirt on planet and spends day and night sending shayari to every girl possible and the other is too busy with his ‘burger’ girlfriend. Zoya advised Ruqaiya to tell Saad about her feelings but then she imagined his laughing face and took her advice back. Since we are seeing so many adorable couples, I now want to see Zoya and Rayaan scenes. I really like their chemistry. I hope we get to see more of them.

The preview for the next episode looked promising. Asfand asks Maya to accept that she still loves him the same way since the past 25years. Will she accept this? And the best part is that Maya thinks she is not invited to the restaurant’s opening. Will Asfand finally invite her? Will she go to the opening? There are a lot of questions that need to be answered. Tune into Coke Kahani next week to find out.

Mera Yaqeen Review – Last Episode!

0

                                                           ‘All’s well that ends well’
This phrase applies to this show. It may have many flaws but its ending was superb. The whole episode was mind blowing! I was totally hooked till the end. Usually last episodes turn out to be really disappointing but this episode was way better than my expectations.

The whole cast has given their best in this show. The performance of Faisal Qureshi, Sawera Nadeem and Nimra Bucha is commendable and praiseworthy. Even the supporting roles played by Farhan Ali Agha, Shehryar Zaidi, Sami Sani and the rest have been played brilliantly by all of them. The story had been written well by Seema Munaf and Sarmat Khoosat has done a satisfying job as a director if not a very good one. I doubt he can give another masterpiece after Humsafar, but it will always remain a benchmark for all his other shows. He has also performed well in his cameo in this show. A good director is one who can also act well. The dialogues in this show were simply outstanding but the screenplay could have been better. Last but not the least, the OST of this show is beautiful. The melody always gave a very piquant feel. It is used at the right moments and it really helped to uplift all the emotional scenes.

The best part of the show is its lesson, ‘Pride and ego is never liked by God’. Everything is given to us by the Almighty and not to thank him for it and to think that it is our right to get all the favors given by him is a very wrong perception. Maha and Nazish were shown as two opposite personalities. One was patient, kind and a firm believer in God. Even after being through so many hardships in her life, she always remained optimistic and always liked to spread happiness all around her as it made her happy to see others happy. The other was a selfish, self centered woman who always considered Nazish inferior to her in terms of looks, personality and status. Maha always thought that Nazish could not pose any threat to her if she got married to Asfand, but things do not always turn out the way you want. Nazish managed to create a place of her own in Asfand’s heart even with all her shortcomings. Maha realized her fault when she had lost everything; her husband, her children, and her house, all belonged to Nazish now. This is when she realizes that God is the only one who has the power to bestow you and he is also the one who has the power to take it from you. She leaves everything she had been proud of all her life and goes away to spend the few years of her life that was left to serve people.

This scene was the best part of the episode. When Maha looks at herself in the mirror and realizes what she truly is. An empty person inside out who had lost everything to a person she considered way out of her league. I had goose bumps when I was watching this scene. Sawera Nadeem was simply outstanding!

I was glad that Asfand finally raised his voice against Maha. She had crossed all her limits and it was high time for Asfand to speak up and show Maha the mirror. He lost all his patience when Maha told Nazish to leave the house. Faisal Qureshi’s acting was spot on! I would have liked it even more if Nazish had stood up for her rights herself instead of giving in repeatedly to Mahas’ demands.

The end was satisfying as Maha and Nazish both got happy. Asfand found Maha and asked her to come back. I would not have liked it if Asfand had left Maha for Nazish. The ‘yaqeen’ of Nazish was not broken and in the case of Maha, it came back. The last scene when Asfand goes to take Maha back was beautifully enacted.

On the whole, the show was good. I wish they would not have dragged it to 21 episodes. It could have easily been summed up in 15 episodes. The show was engaging in the beginning and kept the viewers hooked but it lost its charm somewhere in between. However, the twist and turns in the last few episodes made the show interesting again and the viewership returned. I really hope to see Faisal and Sawera in another serial in the future. Well, all I can say is that I will miss this show for sure!

All-time blockbuster Pakistani television dramas

0

Pakistani Dramas are improving each day where you can see a better project than the previous, leaving you in an utter confusion when it comes to deciding which one had an upper hand on the other. The success of every drama depends on its TRPs, which totally depends on the the viewership the serial was able to earn. Although Pakistan’s drama industry has had been a significant one since the day it came into being, the last three years, that is, 2010-2012 can be declared important. This year is about to reach its end and this is the right time to share the latest rankings that are been leaked by wikipedia. According to the statistics been revealed by the authorities, the following 10 dramas were able to drag viewers’ attention, the most. Have a look!

Zindagi Gulzar Hai Episode 5 – Enough Of Asmara Already!

Finally, today we all witnessed the second heated confrontation between Zaroon and Kashaf and I enjoyed every second of it. I really did think though that Kashaf was getting personal and taking something that Zaroon said in general terms, personally too. Zaroon’s statement in the class was not about a certain class but about the nation in general but Kashaf obviously felt he had no right to “label” all Pakistanis since there were people like her in Pakistan too who had worked very hard to get where they were today. Nevertheless, I did feel that it was actually Kashaf who over-reacted and not Zaroon. And I am so glad that the two of them actually have a very good reason now to be infuriated with each other’s behavior and I am also hoping that we will be seeing much more of Kashaf and Zaroon confrontations/interactions in the future episodes as well. Zaroon did say later on that Kashaf always has a problem with whatever he says in the class so lets just ‘assume’ that the two of them have had such heated discussions in the past too.

Ample screen time was given to the Zaroon and Asmara conversations and I must say that I want to see less of Zaroon and Asmara and more of Zaroon and Kashaf. The Zaroon/Asmara scenes are getting highly repetitive already because every time the two talk to each other whether it is on the phone or in the university all we see is a very annoyed Asmara asking Zaroon how much she hates it when he talks to other girls. Well apparently Asmara is not the only one who gets jealous when Zaroon talks to other girls but Zaroon also admitted today that he does not like it when Asmara talks to other boys and Asmara was also surprised to hear that ‘all of a sudden” Zaroon was afraid of commitment. Does that mean that Zaroon made a commitment to her in the past? Well the conversation that the two had in the car suggests that he did not but then he did not exactly tell her that they were just friends but only this that he wants to concentrate on his studies for now. Honestly speaking some of the dialogues were quite misleading and it seemed like a classic Madiha/Rohail scenario! Can I please make a special request to the producers to not cast these two together ever again because I am sure many of us have had more than our fair share of Mehreen Raheel falling for Fawad Khan.

Kashaf dislikes Asmara for being proud and full of herself but at the same time she envies her because she has everything that a girl can wish for and more; good looks and a man who loves her so much (or so she thinks!). Although Kashaf is dead against marriage but the fact is that like any other girl her age she also longs to have someone in her life who would make her feel special too. She thinks that apart from having good looks and money, having someone who loves you is what makes life perfect. When Maria asks Kashaf how she feels about Zaroon, she gives a very honest answer but even Kashaf has a hard time denying the fact that Zaroon is the most good looking boy in the class.

Kashaf’s conversation with her mother today where she asks her mother why she did not leave all her daughters with the father seemed somewhat childish coming from someone like Kashaf, it was very cute and showed how much she cared for her mother but did not seem in line with Kashaf’s character.

Today’s episode was more about Zaroon and Asmara than anyone else, also much of it focused on problems in Kashaf’s household. I would really like to see more of the University life focusing on Zaroon and Kashaf of course. Although till now I have been supporting Kashaf all along but today I felt like Zaroon was justified in feeling that Kashaf was attacking him personally for no reason. He maybe a flirt and have a “loose character’ but I have not seen him bragging about his wealth till now but he is someone who has also worked hard to get where he is today.

Overall, this latest episode lacked the intensity that was there in the past few episodes, maybe because a lot of what happened did not add anything new to the story and gave no new insights into the characters. If I had a choice I would honestly forward the Zaroon/Asmara scenes in particular, they are killing all the fun for me. I am really looking forward to watching the next episode and finding out how the story unfolds and hoping Asmara won’t be around till the end!

Why Are Our Celebrities Against Turkish Dramas?

0

When I sat down to write this article, I thought the topic should be why are our people against Turkish dramas? but then I thought that will not make an appropriate title since most of our people, the layman, is not just against Turkish dramas but there are so many people who have been opposing Indian programs too for such a long time but no one listens to them. So I am more interested in finding out why our actors, producers and directors are against Turkish dramas. Lately, I have read so many articles on blogs, newspapers and magazines against Turkish dramas and not to mention the debates that are going on, on the electronic media. It is our favorite topic nowadays and after reading so much against Turkish dramas I found some of the arguments very flawed so I would like to discuss here why I am not getting convinced by these arguments. Let me also add that if watching a Turkish play means you are ‘supporting foreign content’ then I DO NOT support foreign content because I don’t find it interesting and engaging enough full stop. Does that make me a very loyal Pakistani hmmm I am not sure! Okay here are some points that I would really like people to take time out for and read. I consider myself a very impartial observer so this may make sense to some people who are not driven by emotions but listen to reason. In any case don’t forget to share your views.

1. The People Who Support Turkish Dramas Are Not Patriotic OR Show Your Patriotism By Helping us Ban Turkish Content.

Are Turkish Dramas the only foreign element in our country? Look at the things you use around the house start from the computer you have, then the phone, which car do you use? Which drink did you have today? Pepsi? Is your Television set made locally? Is your shampoo local? What about the milk and cheese you eat? When you eat out do you have Chinese or McDonald’s or it has to be a desi restaurant every time? And if that is not the case than does that mean you are not patriotic? Absolutely not. You buy these products because as a consumer you have the right to choose. If our people can be considered unpatriotic because they “support” foreign things than not too many of us are patriotic are we? If it indeed is true than all local restaurants should rage a war against the multinational chains because they are a “threat” to them. All the soft drinks are being made locally, so Pepsi etc should be banned too and the list is never-ending.
I want to buy my fridge and watch my dramas without the fear that what I choose will gauge the level of loyalty I have towards my country. There are many other ways of showing love to your country like by being honest at work, saving electricity so on and so forth.

2. Turkish Dramas Are Against Our Culture OR Turkish Dramas Will Take Over Our Culture.

My first question is what is our culture? Because as far as I know Pakistani culture is very diverse and varies not just from province to province but from city to city.
As a society Pakistanis have always derived cultural values from their religion.
What is the general theme of our dramas?
Saas Bahu troubles
Sisterly Rivalry
Husband and wife having problems
Husbands having extra marital affairs
Girls getting raped and what happens to them ete etc

Where does culture come in? Let’s talk about dressing now. The Turkish actresses are very boldly dressed and our actresses are so graceful and dignified (only in dramas) otherwise if you watch the same actresses in fashion shows and other shows they are equally bold in their dressing. What does that show? Are we hypocrites? We have to be fools to think that actresses who cover their heads and bodies in dramas are like that in reality too and we know it only too well that they are not. We saw it very clearly in Lux Style Awards. So, where are we going as a society? Are these people the true representatives of our culture? Or are we being fooled? Or is it okay for these actresses to dress up boldly for shows (that are also shown on our televisions) but not in dramas?
Why don’t our celebrities protest against the mujra channels that are openly shown by every single cable channel and are easily accessible? Are they in line with our culture? Are they not ruining our culture? If our artists are not just worried about their own self and about the culture than they should oppose all things that are against our culture. To start with the cheap local theatre shows should be banned. And what about the Indian shows, why don’t our artists speak about that?

3. Turkish Dramas Are Not Good For Our Drama Industry.

Turkish dramas or any dramas that are watched by people provide good competition and it is the basic rule of economics that competition is always good because it gives people choices and it improves quality of products. Turkish dramas will give incentive to our producers and writers to come up with original concepts in order to attract the attention of people. No doubt we are making excellent dramas even now but you will all agree with me that most of the stories are taken from digests and people have stopped putting in the effort to get an original script being written for a drama. All dramas revolve around similar themes because too many dramas are being made and no one has time to come up with new ideas. Maybe these Turkish dramas will actually save our drama industry while it is still strong enough before it goes downhill.
Who will be benefiting monetarily from these dramas? We already know that our channels are getting these dramas at a cheaper rate and local artists are dubbing these plays so they benefit from it. Once the drama goes on air, it is our own channels which benefit from it.

4. If Such Serials Start Running Regularly There Will Be No Audience For Pakistani Content.

Hamayun Saeed gave this statement and I was appalled to hear it because it surprises me that these producers who expect the viewers to support them fail to give the viewers any credit and themselves too! All I want to say in response is that please have some faith in your own dramas and the people who watch them. All Pakistanis who have a television set at home also have access to cable and they have the choice to watch anything they want already but they still choose to watch Pakistani dramas because they are good enough. So enough of the exaggeration already! If you continue making good dramas, we will continue watching them.

I said it before and I am going to say again that I do not watch or “support” Turkish dramas but at the same time I feel that the artists who are giving emotional statements are just being unreasonable and insecure. They should continue making good dramas and stop the blame game. We should not feel threatened by competition but take it in our stride.

Ek Tamanna Lahasil Si Episode 13 – Ahsan-Ramla Spot On

Well there were some developments in the story this time but still it seemed stagnant to me at some parts.

Finally what Nadia had been doing has been revealed & that too in a shocking way. I guess the panic of Hira & her mum was justified & for once I didn’t find them overreacting (ignoring the death part) because anyone would be shocked to see the daughter in law dipping amulet in the food. No doubt they ignored the ‘acchai’ part but I guess the amulets come with a huge baggage of fear, emotions & faithlessness. Nadia couldn’t put her word in for why she was doing so but for the first time I felt what happened wasn’t unnecessary, the action could’ve been a little less dramatic but a few things had to be conveyed to Nadia too.

But then again Hira & Ruqaiyya were seen taking amulets from some fake peer who states that Nadia & Ramla are scheming something horrible. This is exactly what I wrote about in my last review too. According to the authentic Hadith the women will be hell-bound because of not believing in Allah. I wish they had shown an ounce of reliability on Allah in this matter but alas! They showed what actually happens in our society in a harsh way. Whether the amulet is written to bring good to the concerned or it may be used for bad things I believe no piece of paper can hold such power & I wish people following this trend should learn and be ashamed of the gamble they do with their condition in the Hereafter when they seek help from others & find tranquillity in such meaningless papers that too for this immortal world & to fix/spoil the life which is going to end.

It was an intelligent move by the director to have Hira & Ruqaiyya exposed in front of Ahsan & Ramla who already knew of their nature but they couldn’t believe that Ruqaiyya could go so far to actually involve herself in the ‘jadu’ scene. Ahsan’s decision of leaving the house is totally right but I guess he will take some time before making a final move or will try to fix things before he materializes his decision.

I am actually kind of waiting for Hira to have a final reality check but the story at present is revolving around Nadia. No doubt they are covering the loopholes of Hira’s married life too but I want to see more of it & actually more of Hira’s serious side because for now she is in a state of oblivion & is hounding Nadia day & night whereas I feel it’s a high time she should get what she deserves too, that she focuses on her life & her wrong-doing more rather than spoiling & interfering into Mohsin & Nadia’s life. Even though she knows Ali has something going on with other girls behind her back but she is pretty normal & thinks she has nothing to worry about. At this point I feel she should mature enough in order to deal with her married life.

Ali’s girlfriend fails to impress big time. No doubt the character she is playing is obviously detestable but I guess if one is working on a TV they should work on their linguistics as well. I heard her saying ‘garantee’ & ‘parposal’ which left me in a laughter fit. No doubt the looks matter to be on the TV & you can refine them with the help of some make up artists but the dialogue delivery is the main weapon of any actor be it a side actor of a supporting one. No one can help you in the dialogue delivery or your communication skills but your own-self  I hope we get to see even more lesser of her because she is a downer & I hate seeing Ali’s scenes too probably because apart from this drama too I never saw the actor himself in some decent roles.

I kind of enjoy the fact that Ahsan & Ramla are always on the spot of action. Be it the amulet scene or Mohsin-hit-Nadia scene or Ali-abuse-Nadia scene. They always act like the police of the house & take situations in their hands. I find this couple near to reality all the time. I hope to see them more & wish they can fix everything ASAP.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,

Mera Pehla Pyar Episode 8 – Review

0

I’d like start with giving everyone a caveat that this will be more of a character analysis, than the usual review. By now I’m sure everyone reading this has already seen the episode so I thought I’d discuss the insight the writers have presented to us about the characters. Episode 8 of Mera Pehla Pyar was all about University life. Let’s set aside the fact that besides Shazia, none of the characters could pass for University students, is this really how students behave in Pakistani Universities? Does no one do their own assignments? Are people really that rude and disrespectful in class towards their professors? I was under the impression that there was discipline, that there was a boundary line of respect between students and professors, and that manners were strongly enforced in schools and Universities in Pakistan. Anyways, on to the analysis…

Ayesha: We see that she has always been self-obsessed and cared for no one but herself from the beginning. She also only befriends people that worship the ground she walks on; Shanze in her present life, and Maria in her University life. She is embarrassed to have everyone know that Taha is her cousin because he is geeky, yet she has no embarrassment in forcing him to do her assignment. She also seems insecure of Maira. In the last episode she got angry with her friend because she was complimenting Maira, and in this episode when Maira is asking for assistance in what seems to be the world’s most difficult assignment, she is rolling her eyes at her. What really bothered me was her mother’s attitude. When Ayesha is complaining about Taha being in the same University and everyone makes fun of him, her mother doesn’t say anything. She doesn’t ever set her straight and tell her that she is being rude and selfish. I’m guessing that it’s her mother’s over leniency that has made Ayesha the person she is today.  Her mother has been no help to her as a mother. It makes me wonder why she is surprised at how Ayesha’s life has turned out.

Ziad: Yeh cheez kya hain aakhir? I’m confused as to why he is so over confident about himself? He flirts with every girl and has the same lines for them all. Oh and ladies, if a guy asks you what he can do to prove how much he loves you, and offers the ‘taare tor ke laon kya’ wali line, please, please say yes!! Call their bluff and put them in their place because if someone really loves you, they don’t need to offer ways to prove it to you! I do think that as chichora as Ziad is, he is completely harmless and I know for a fact that there is a Ziad in everyone’s University. He may be the only one besides Maira who really does care for Taha…although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the random girl calling him ‘Ziad Bhai’ and Taha’s mum going off on him.

Maira’s brother and bhabi: They are both very typical, bhabi more than bhai though. I’m confused as to how going to do one’s assignment is interpreted as ‘khuli choot’ by her bhabi. When this jahalat wala trend will end in our society is beyond me. And after that intense over reaction of that fight scene, her idea to her husband to get Maira married to her rich cousin to benefit their business was not just cheap, but also insulting. I can’t imagine what kind of a guy would stand there and agree with his wife over this pathetic idea and that regarding his own sister…disgusting!! The characters did play their roles well and were very effective in making the audience not like them.

Taha’s parents: Sheheryar Zaidi is as awesome as always as Taha’s ‘best friend.’ It’s nice that Taha had at least one parent who was willing to act like a real parent and also be his friend at the same time. He is clearly happy with Maira’s entry into Taha’s life and the sudden burst of confidence in him. We also see that Laila Zuberi wasn’t just Hitler Dado, but also Hitler Ammi from the beginning. She felt the need to control Taha at every stage and clearly couldn’t handle

one little incident. Ideally, if one’s son was brave enough to defend a girl while she is being harassed by thugs, then that should be reason to be proud of him, not upset at him. And why does she scream so loudly at her husband? I felt as if I was being yelled at. Excellent acting by both Sheheryar Zaidi and Laila Zuberi. I honestly cannot imagine anyone else playing these characters.

Maira: I like Shazia…again, she is the only that can pass for a University student, but she is also a very fresh face. She has an innocence in her that really was needed for her character. She clearly knows her bhabi’s ill intentions yet stays quite. She admires Taha for his kindness and looks beyond his looks and geeky behavior. What really surprised me was her reaction when Taha is telling her that he will not be able to do his assignment in 2 days since he still has to do Ayesha’s. She doesn’t berate him or even advises him to do his own assignment first and let others do their own…she simply and very kindly offers to do his for him. I really thought that was different. I’m really looking forward to watching her character shape up.

Last but obviously not least, Taha: Faysal Qureshi owned this episode like anything. He honestly doesn’t fit into the University role, but his acting of this confused, yet very kind, and geeky student is fantastic!!! I had been wondering why Taha is so sweet to everyone and why he never bad mouths Ayesha in front of Hira even a little. I got my answer in this episode. In the beginning when Ziad and Taha are talking about how girls only like serious guys, Taha tells Ziad that because his dad is funny, that’s why ‘mama unhe pasand nahi karteen.’ Taha knows how it feels to have his mother not like his father (even if he is wrong) and that’s why he has never given Hira that opportunity, or at least did his best to save her from that. Maybe that is also the reason he tries to never give his mother the reason to not like him or be upset at him like she is with his father. He also has clearly always been nice, extremely giving, and very obedient. Again, this is entirely FQ’s episode and I have not yet seen him portray a character like this and too so convincingly!! Faysal Qureshi never ceases to amaze me.

In conclusion this episode really answered some of the questions I had regarding why Taha is so over the top nice and if Ayesha really was always like this or did this happen after she got married. I wanted to know if the mothers were always like this also. The episode really helped me understand the characters well. I’m not usually a fan of ‘such long blasts from the past’ but in this case it was important. Well done team Mera Pehla Pyar!!

Kahi Unkahi Episode 8 – Some interesting developments

0

So the story has started making progress & it is showing what all the viewers were waiting for. Sherry & Zoya’s encounter & a little progress in their friendship. The episode did offer something new & the story seems to have a perfect pace with a very good direction.

Anam has finally admitted in front of her mother that Sherry is her Mr. Right & she has called her dibs on him. She is leaving no stone unturned to attract Sherry towards her. I kind of had an issue with what Sherry says to Anum about Zoya that I don’t mingle with the servant’s daughter but on the other hand we see him acting up all freely & frankly with Zoya. Anam’s mother is totally in for this & she has adviced Anam that she should not let go of Sherry by any means.

I understand that a girl should be confident but not too over-confident that she goes around bragging about herself & a friend of hers as a couple that too in front of his family. That scene was a bit over the top. I enjoyed Ansar’s intervention & his scene for the first time, but Anam has shown her true colors. I wonder why didn’t Mrs. Kamal or anyone else exchange some glances when Anam misbehaved & argued with Ansar, because they all are pretty decent & don’t loose talk with one another but to see Anam replying back instantly should have been a shocker for them & they should have reacted on it. By now I guess everyone in the family of Mr. Kamal should understand pretty well that Anam is not a person who can fit to their family or work towards the unity of the whole family as well.

Mr. Kamal has once again asked Bashir Ahmed to keep an eye on his daughter & to make her realize that she is not a kid any more. Even though they sent Sherry away but still the idea of their friendship & prospect relationship hounds him deep down.

Mrs. Pervez finally achieved what she wished for & told them about what has happened between Zoya & Shahzeb but Mrs. Kamal’s reaction & her dialogue was spot on when she said Mr. Kamal can totally relate to the situation. It was kind of sweet to see Mrs. Kamal take sides with Zoya & tell her husband that there must be something special in that girl for which Shahzeb approached her. On the other hand I felt it was a justified scene where Shahzeb talks to his sister & asks her about Zoya. They didn’t ignore that part & showed that Shahzeb still has feelings for Zoya.

It was a bit confusing to hear the remarks of Sherry about Zoya. First he claims that he doesn’t remember his friendship with Zoya but he says that he remembers everything of his childhood related to Anam (whereas she wasn’t even his friend) & also we saw him reminiscing about Zoya when he visits his school. He claimed that he doesn’t want to continue his friendship with Zoya but the moment when he sees her for the first time he was pretty excited & asked her curiously that was she Zoya? & now once again he said that guys should be aware of the introvert, innocent girls like Zoya but we see him freely making her laugh that too in front of her mother, he was so casual with her which gave the impression that he is actually enjoying her company or kind of likes her.

I so wish that all such confusions are cleared out in the next episode & we get to see more of Sherry-Zoya scenes because I find them cute together. Zoya’s feelings even if she negates has resurfaced for Sherry & she can’t stop thinking about him. It was something cute to see too. I loved Zoya in the last scene because she looked really pretty. Can’t wait for the next episode as I’m wondering why was she crying.

Cheers,

Pakistan won the first T-20 Match Against India!!!

0

Woahhh!!! The long awaited moment is all here!! Pakistan finally won the first T-20 match against India that was held in Bangalore  India.  Leaving the Indians in shock, Pakistan is all engrossed in celebrations, despite of the fact that the country, especially Karachi is going through a bad phase due to the civil violence  within the country.

Celebrities to Use Islam to be in Limelight????

0

The topic seems controversial enough to drag your attention, isn’t it? What has been seen in the showbiz industry is the fact that money goes where there is popularity and celebrities love to become popular, If not through their work then for the things that are not a part of the industry. If you take a look few years back, it seemed like a tradition where many singers and actors gave a farewell to their showbiz career, proclaiming to return to Islam and its teachings. The move did bring them limelight where they became a subject for few months, or perhaps few days probably. We saw them conducting Islamic shows on different channels and then they disappeared again.

It seems that their planning to be a true Muslim was for temporary and many of them are now coming back to their previous career, relaunching themselves. Although there are celebrities like Junaid Jamshed who are steadfast on their decision,  most of them found their showbiz career more satisfactory. Here is a small list of them that are in my knowledge. Have a look!

Coke Kahani Episode 7 – Mission accomplished!

0

Do I have to say again what an amazing show this is? It is 15 to 20 minutes of pure pleasure. Each character has its own charm and there is not a single scene that makes you bored. All the actors in this show have performed brilliantly and given their 100 percent, the new comers as well as the old ones. I never thought Muhammad Ahmed or Shamim Hilali would be able to do such good comedy. I have usually seen Shamim Hilali in negative or serious characters. Sonia Rehman and Faisal Rehman both are looking great together and so are Yasir Hussain and Maheen Rizvi as Beydil and Maria, and not to forget the ever green Jugno uncle played by Adnan Jaffer. Everyone’s comic timing is outstanding!

Now coming to the episode, Zoya is still trying to patch things up between her parents. She wants them to spend quality time with each other and sort things out. Asfand is trying his best to win over Maya. Poor guy is trying to make food to impress her! And the best part of the episode was the ‘shayari’ that Saad took from Beydil’s phone. I just could not stop laughing at this scene. It goes like:
“Kis Baat pe Khafa Ho, Mujhko Kiun Nahi Batati
Khuwaabo Main Aati Ho, Kamray Main Kiun Nahi Aati”

This scene is a must watch! The look on Asfand’s face when he read the card was priceless.

Saad is so blind. How can he not see that Ruqaiya likes him! Their car scene was a cute, lighthearted scene. Ruqaiya’s mum is again pestering her to meet a guy. Saad asks her if she wants to marry someone else, and she imagined confessing to him that she wants to marry him. This scene was extremely funny!

Rayaan has finally succeeded to get a sponsor. And who is the sponsor? Coca Cola of course! They are the actual sponsors of this show too. They have no doubt invested a lot in this show. Muhammad Ahmed’s script and Mehreen Jabbar’s direction has turned it into a master piece. I always thought Mehreen Jabbar was more of a serious director. She always did the same genre of plays like Vasl and Malaal. It is good to see that she is also very versatile. I never thought she could portray comedy so well on screen, and not to forget the dialogues. They are absolutely fantastic!

Another scene worth mentioning is the one where Saad, Ruqaiya, Zoya and Rayaan are interviewing people to employ in Al fonso. The magicians, the dancers, and that weird guy with the guitar, they all were hilarious! Another must watch scene.
It is still not clear why Maya left Asfand. They are trying to create an air of mystery around Asfand and Maya’s relationship. We got more insight as to why Maya left Asfand. She thinks that Asfand is an indifferent and a useless person who has not done a single thing properly in his life. We also got to see Asfand angry at Maya for the first time, he clearly tells her that you may think I am useless and indifferent but in reality I am just a very patient person. This is true! Asfand is seen as a very calm and patient person who rarely loses his composure. Maya was also seen trying to make Zoya admit of her intentions of patching things up between her parents. Zoya somehow managed to convince her mother that she has no such intentions. Phew! That was a close call.

Maya’s anger has also dissolved overtime. She is finally speaking to Asfand politely. She keeps on pestering him to tell the reason behind the selling of his restaurant. But everything he manages to change the topic. Why is he not telling her the reason? I guess it is because he does not want her to know that he took a loan for Zoya’s education. My guess is that he does not want Maya to feel bad or guilty about his situation.

How can I forget to mention Nusrat and Mutmain Sahab! I love the way Nusrat gets jealous when Mutmain Sahab goes to Nazia’s place (their tenant). These two are extremely cute! I am curious to know who this Nazia is now. Is she a friend of Asfand? There was pure jealousy on Maya’s face when she came searching for Asfand at their house. Let’s see what is in store for us next week! Till then, have a wonderful week!

Aik Nayee Cinderella Episode 9 – New Realizations

0

A lot of development was seen in the story in this episode. It was like someone just pushed the fast forward button from a slow motion mode. Meesha has finally realized what a fool she was to run after Mayer who did not take much interest in her. He played with her feelings and used her to make Zaini jealous. Meesha was too innocent to understand what was going on but Roman was clever enough to identify this oldest trick in the book; to get someone’s attention by showing interest in someone else. In this case, Mayer was trying to gain Zaini’s attention by taking interest in Meesha in front of her. Meesha has finally realized that there is no use running after someone and degrading oneself in the process. Roman was seen giving her a shoulder to cry. This was the cutest scene of the episode. Meesha is slowly realizing what Roman means in her life, how he has been there for her through thick and thin and helped her every time without asking for anything in return. She hates it when he talks to Ammie, or when Meher mentions Ammie and Roman’s marriage.

Roman was also seen trying to show Meesha that what she feels for Mayer is not love. When you love somebody, you get sad when you see them with someone else. Meesha has always been jealous or angry to see Zaini with Mayer, but never has been truly sad. But Roman’s theory did prove to be right as we did see Meesha getting very sad when Meher mentioned Ammie and Roman marriage.

I absolutely loved the flashbacks Meesha and Roman, both had of each other. It took her some time but she has finally realized who her true prince charming is. As Dado said, when you love somebody, you can share anything with them without any hesitation; they are the ones who give you the shoulder to cry on. It is easy to share all your worries and sorrows with them. This is when Meesha remembers Roman and how he has always been there for her to fix things when she is in trouble. He is the one who consoles her in her sorrows and helps to sort out her worries. Her attraction and likeness for Mayer was just a phase and would pass over time. Meesha, however, is still in the denial phase. She still thinks Roman is not a normal human being but a fairy man! How extremely naive of Meesha to still think this. The scene where Meesha gets jealous when Roman is talking to Ammie was a treat to watch. She did not like the fact that he was giving someone else attention other than her. Meesha is slowly developing feelings for him but will she ever accept these feelings and come out of her denial phase?

Meesha always had one dream; to marry a good looking, rich guy. When she wanted Mayer in her life, it was because he was the means to fulfill her dream. She was actually running after her dream which shattered when she came back to reality and this is what saddened her the most.

Zaini has proved to be a brilliant actress. She was able to win over Bano by faking some emotional dialogues which impressed Bano completely and she forgave her. Bano also agreed to get Mayer and Zaini married. Zaini and Meher are excited as for them it is like they had won a jackpot. They left no chance to insult Meesha and make her aware of her true place. I truly felt bad for her in these scenes.

Mayer may be smitten by Zaini but he cannot help but compare both of them. One is kind, loving, with a pure heart. She respects the poor and treats them well. The other is selfish, self centered and who has no respect for poor people and leaves no chance to ill treat them.

Okay, so my prediction was right. The man sent by Shah Baba is supposed to be paired with Ammie. Their scene was extremely cute! I hope Ammie also finds her prince charming in him. Although he is under the impression that Ammie is the girl he is looking for, when it is really Meesha that he is searching for. One more scene worth mentioning is that nightmare that Meesha sees all the time. Previously, it was never clear but now she finally saw the whole dream. The person she is running away from and who means her harm is none other than Mayer and her savior is Roman. Is this not enough to open her eyes?

The pre cap for the episode seems promising. Zaini has finally confessed that she is not Mayer’s ‘mystery girl’, but it is actually Meesha. Somewhere deep down Mayer always knew that Meesha was the girl he had met, but he was not ready to accept it. He has finally proposed to Meesha. Will Meesha accept the proposal? Or will she stay with Roman whom she truly loves? Dado is also aware of Roman’s feelings for Meesha and advices him to tell her. Will he finally confess? Or will it be too late? I am eagerly looking forward to the next episode.

Bari Appa Episode 14 – Typicality of Zubaida revealed

0

So this was the very first day of Neelam at Farman’s home & it was full of shocks for her as well as for the viewers too.

All this while I have seen the character of Zubaida as someone who’s dominant but caring at the same time & her character had so many other positive dimensions that made her likeable but to see the streak of jealousy & the negativity was not a treat to watch. It seems like now the director or the writer is trying to make Zubaida look bad in front of ‘sati savitri’ Neelam who for the sake of her husband would tolerate anything just to make her mark in the hearts of the whole family.

I thought Zubaida’s character was way too ahead of all such typicality that we see in many women dominant dramas but to see the similar actions of Zubaida made me feel like I wasn’t watching something new. Ohkay, we get it that Zubaida is hurt & can not accept the defeat in terms of Neelam but it would’ve been better if they had shown that Zubaida accepted the arrival of Neelam & her relation with Farman with all the grace & dignity with which she announced their wedding & how she whole-heartedly introduced Neelam to her family.

Zubaida really doesn’t need to stoop to such a level which is so unlike her because all this while everyone has loved the main trait of her nature & that is dignity. Just to snatch useless Farmaan from Neelam she is twisting her words which seems so uninteresting. I felt that the scene where Farman, Zubaida & Neelam are in conversation was handled so poorly with such confusing dialogues that no one could actually make out where it was going & what was the main reason of Farman calling Neelam so that Zubaida could shed off her frustration at her? Zubaida kept on blowing things out of proportion & all the things went into the thin-air because they made no sense at all. I wish the dialogues were a bit better or the direction was paid heed to because nothing seemed to be in the right place & it seemed totally unnecessary.

Sharmeen disappointed big time with her acting. She seemed so artificial & someone who really can not act. All this while I found her scenes pretty average but the scenes in this episode & her dialogue delivery were a big downer. She should at least work a bit on her emotional scenes because I really like the way she talks but in today’s episode she came as a shock to me.

I really hate to see the fact that they have brought Bari Appa to such extreme edge. Zubaida is shown as a complete devil where as Neelam is being shown as an angel who can’t do anything wrong & is way too polite. I think they should maintain a balance that Zubaida should not make a mountain out of molehill & Neelam should take a stand & Farman can go wherever he want to because he is useless.

I feel Farman actually should start to handle the conflicts a bit wisely & without the favoring Zubaida. All this while we see him as a stammerer who can not utter a single word in front of Zubaida but on the other hand we see his eyes bulging out with anger for Neelam. He has spent 25 years with Zubaida & he knows that it was her attitude which drove him towards Neelam. So, he should man-up a bit & should stop taking sides with Zubaida because it was him who approached Neelam for marriage.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Tanhaiyan Naye Silsilay Episode 9 – Extremely Engaging & Funny

This latest episode opened with Kabacha attaining the impossible; making Faraan uncle smile and restoring his faith in the people around him. I absolutely loved this first scene, it was touching and sweet. Kabacha is spot on with his ‘kabhi ap mere dil se khelti hai, kabhi meri jaan se’ dialogues and the poor man is facing a predicament now with Sanya telling him she will kill him if Faraan uncle and Aani move out! Marina Khan and Behroze Sabzwari still have the same chemistry which they did years back and you can’t help but smile every time these two come on screen.

Why does Zeenia have such a wrong impression of her father? She actually expects him to be interested in other women. I have a feeling that she derived the wrong conclusions from the arguments that Zain and Zara had in the past. When Sofia said to Zain “kiya tumhei isi liye tu use dekh ke ghussa ata hai kyun ke vo Zara ke jaisi lagti hai”, it really made me think what she meant. There is definitely a lot of mystery surrounding this family and it just makes me want to know more. Syra Yusef and Alishba Yusef make the perfect sisters on screen. Shehryaar Munawar’s acting was much more convincing today and he acted perfectly all through the “interview’ scene with Serena’s father. I really like Zarak’s character; he is a very patriotic person and is very positive as well. Zeenia has finally approved of him and we also found out that Zain also knows Zarak’s family. Zeenia refuses to stay in Pakistan and Zarak cannot hear anything against his country. Mona and Serena’s commentary in the background when Zarak and Zeenia are having an argument just added to the fun. The script has been brilliantly written and the acting and direction is just as good.

Faraan uncle is finally out of his room and actively participating in what is happening around the house. Zeenia is already willing to make changes for Zarak and the way Sanya convinced her to wear shalwar kameez was so appropriate. Later on when Bibi jaan says that she will not leave without getting the two engaged, Zain looks at all the elders in the room before saying yes. These are small details which we really don’t get to see that often anymore. The engagement scene was very nicely done and it looked like there were happy times ahead. Zain really needs to act like a grown up and sort things out with Zeenia.

In my opinion this latest episode was the best one so far. Shehryaar Munawar’s acting is improving by leaps and bounds and I am looking forward to seeing more of him. I really missed the Kishmish/Serena scenes today and I hope we get to see enough of them in the next episode. Kabacha’s dialogues are so in line with his character and so are Sanya’s. They are the same people there were so many years back. TNS is just getting better and making me smile without even trying very hard.

Fatima Awan.

The lady of Lollywood, Meera has again founded herself in a real trouble as her house as been sealed few hours back for not paying the incomes tax since a long time.

Mera Yaqeen Episode 20 – Brilliant Episode

0

A new chapter has finally begun and that too in the second last episode. It should have begun a long time ago. I absolutely love the direction and dialogues of this serial. Sarmat Khoosat has not done a bad job. But the only flaw is the flow of the story and the pace of the show. Sawera Nadeem was definitely the star of the episode. Her acting, poise and attitude was superb and worth an applause. I do not think the role of Maha could have been played so well by any other actress.

Maha can finally stand on her feet and as predicted she has started to make Nazish’s life even more miserable. Even her father was seen upset by her behavior towards Nazish and told her to stop degrading her because you are no one to make someone’s life or destroy it; it is all in God’s hands. I completely agree with him! Maha has been through so much but her proud and selfish nature is still intact, she still considers herself above Nazish in every way. I have lost hope that she will ever value Nazish. She has blamed Nazish for her paralyzed condition and thinks that Nazish has always been envious of her when in reality, she has always been a true friend to her. She is still refusing to accept Nazish’s status as Asfand’s wife. She will never accept her as a part of her family, this was seen when she did not let her come in the family picture taken at the party.

Maha is making every possible attempt to separate the two. She was seen ruining the birthday plans of Nazish and it was the first time that Nazish got very upset. She even took the gift that Asfand bought for Nazish! How selfish of her. However, the kids managed to cheer Nazish up. I loved this scene of the episode. She has won their heart wholly and completely. Her heart is very pure and that is why people start liking her. It is an art in itself to make place in people’s heart and this is what I like about her character, she never thinks bad for anyone. She accepts everything that God has given to her and never complain about anything. The person I truly feel bad for is Asfand; he is having a very hard time maintaining a balance with Maha playing her games. Poor guy is sick and tired of the taunts he gets from Maha all the time. Hats off to his patience!

Even after what Maha did to Nazish, she still decorated her whole room and shifted Asfand to her room. How can Maha not see what a big heart she has? Asfand was seen upset at her decision, as it would be virtually impossible for him to come to her now. She wanted to give Maha what was already hers and make her happy but will Maha ever do the same for her?
Asfand is also trying to make Maha understand of his situation and clearing her doubts and the insecurities that she has in her mind. She thinks she no longer holds the same position in his life, as according to her it has been taken by Nazish. Asfand clearly told her that you are not just ‘part of my life, but a part of my being.’ What else can he possibly say to make her believe that he is telling the truth? Even after her rude behavior and constant taunts and insults he still loves her. Nazish is a part of his life but this does not mean he does not love her anymore.

The most annoying part of the episode was when Nazish’s friend Amna again started to give her ‘advice’ to leave Asfand and go back to Ahmer and Nazish was seen pondering over the idea. I really hope she does not take any foolish step and regret later. Even Asfand is irritated by her constant sacrifice for Maha. She is willing to give everything to Maha without fighting for her rights. Even the nurse has advised her not to give up so easily. This is again a difficult test in her life that she has to pass with flying colors, not by giving up but by fighting till the end.

On the whole, the episode was very good. I wish they had not stretched the serial so much. What could have easily been covered in 12 to 15 episodes, they took 20 episodes to cover it. I also felt that the editing of the scenes were not synchronized and the scenes were totally out of order. It was pretty obvious and it killed the charm of the scenes.

The serial is nearing towards its end now. This was the second last episode. The preview for the last episode is pretty shocking. Asfand has finally lost his patience and has shown Maha the mirror and she has left Asfand and went away. All this was shown in the preview for the next episode. Has Maha finally realized her fault? Will she come back? We have a whole week to wait for the answers.
