Tiger Zinda Hai Banned In Pakistan!

0

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger Zinda Hai will not be releasing in Pakistan. The first instalment of the film faced the same fate and this time again the Central Board Of Film Certification CFBC has refused to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the film. Salman and Katrina are reprising their roles as Tiger and Zoya with Zoya being a Pakistani spy. The censor board has banned the film saying that:

“The image of Pakistan and its law enforcement agencies has been compromised in the film.”

Tiger Zinda Hai Banned In Pakistan!

Earlier Ek Tha Tiger was also banned for the same reason. Many people including celebrities like Imran Abbas were hopeful for its release but the film has failed to get certification. With Rangreza and Arth also releasing on 21st December, this ban will in a way prove good for the local industry!

Teri Raza Episode 24 Review – Once A Whiner, Always A Whiner!

Seriously, Suhana is the worst character that I have come across in ages. It was so amusing seeing her fighting for her husband & his parents’ respect whereas her husband has done nothing for which he & his family should be respected.

I was actually surprised that the episode started off on a positive note where things were smooth between Suhana & Rameez but oh my God the amount of screaming that started happening in a few seconds left me deafened temporarily. To be honest, Suhana is mentally unstable, that is the only explanation one can accept behind such an unreasonable behavior of hers! It is sickening seeing her blaming her parents again & again whereas she has been someone who did everything as per her own wishes. She got married to Imtiyaz because it was her own call, ruined that relationship because of herself too, now again she got married to the guy she wanted so why is she creating a havoc in her parents’ life? They allowed her to get married to Rameez & sent a few things out of concern, so she should be thankful in stead of insulting them again & again!

To be honest, seeing how unreasonable Rameez is, all I could say was that it serves her right. Was Suhana not aware of how immature & jobless Rameez was that she expected ‘khuddari’ from him? It was so funny that he was promising her moon & stars over what? Her father’s credit card? LOL! Also, I think it’s rich coming from Suhana where she spoke about standing on her own feet & fending for herself because hello miss, you are forgetting that the car you are using was sponsored by Imtiyaz & the business that you are running was financially established by Imtiyaz as well? Suhana should have looked into her father’s eyes IF she was a self-made woman. Also, it is amusing that she rubs her marriage with Imtiyaz on her parents’ face like they did some huge zulm on her while completely ignoring the perks that came with that marriage like a car & a proper business? Wow!

The showdown between Suhana & Zafar was so pathetic. They should have shown that her parents, after so much of batameezi threw her out of their lives but then again, being parents, they are putting up with every tantrum of Mrs. Badtameez. The fact is, Suhana knows she screwed up, so in stead of addressing the issue, she is looking for punching bags & that at the moment are her parents because she is used to whinning! I am sure it was suggested that her parents were still doing everything for her but I don’t understand, when Zafar has not even accepted Rameez, why would he be so stupid to handover his credit card to him? If he wanted to help, he should have given it to Suhana directly to show that he still cared as this was Suhana’s first complaint that they estranged her, so not sure what were they trying to prove by doing everything behind her back? Seriously, even though I totally believe what Suhana is putting her parents through is not justified BUT her parents are insane too. At one hand they would turn a blind eye & on the other they would hand over a credit card to her husband, the same guy they haven’t really accepted? How messed up!

Imtiyaz really needs to snap out of his fixation with Suhana. He left her on his own terms so there’s no point in being indulged in her thoughts! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this BEAUTIFUL noise pollution free episode of Teri Raza!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Baaghi Episode 21 Review – Baaghi or Majboor?

This was yet another episode of Baaghi which showed how Kanwal Baloch is being abused and victimized every step of the way. Although she talked about women empowerment, which to her means allowing women to do whatever they want to do and criticized men for their double standards yet more than once she has allowed men to use her whenever it suited her “needs”! Although the writer has tried to show that every time she does something which does not conform to the social norms or moral values it is because she is majboor but somehow her majbooris most often don’t make a lot of sense. For instance in tonight’s episode, she could have easily asked one of her “clients” to help her out or Shehryar would have happily done everything in his power to bail her brother out had she asked him but since she is an “empowered” woman therefore she went there herself even though she is quite “famous” for her videos now! Yes, this development also showed how corrupt our police officers are but the fact that this incident could easily have been avoided cannot be ignored. Kanwal also had the option of calling Shehryar when things were not going as she planned but she didn’t do that either.

On the one hand they are showing that Kanwal is so famous now that she hides her face when she goes out in public so that no one recognizes her and on the other hand her siblings who have seen her videos cannot tell that the girl in the videos is her! This had to be the most unconvincing part of this recent episode! Even if someone wears heavy make-up, their family members will surely recognize them! Also, once again everyone in Kanwal’s family was shown using her in some way or the other. All of them want money or things from her but apparently even the brother who once loved her does not feel the same way about her, Kanwal however is really emotional about her family and everything that she is doing for them is out of love. Even Kanwal’s bhabhi who is constantly asking her for huge favors was shown backbiting about her. Kanwal has been shown as someone who has made some terrible choices in life but she has never even thought about harming anyone and easily believes people.

Baaghi Episode 21 Review - Baaghi or Majboor?

Kanwal’s reaction when Shehryar gave her that ring showed that she always wanted to be loved the way Shehryar loves her and this was something special for her. Shehryar’s scene with his mother later on however showed that these two can never have a future together. Shehryar’s mother did not like Kanwal’s boldness for obvious reasons and he isn’t the kind of person who would be able to plead his case strongly. Also, the preview of the next episode showed that Kanwal’s majbooris perhaps pushed her to break up with Shehryar. This drama should have been titled “Majboor” and not Baaghi! Baaghi is someone who is strong and determined and does things on his or her own terms and conditions! Kanwal’s story on the other hand has been strongly driven by her majbooris. Strength does not lie in forgetting the difference between right and wrong to fulfill the needs of the people you love, it lies in making your own path and not letting your circumstances dictate how your life will turn out to be ultimately.

Every episode of Baaghi is the same, it has to be one of the most predictable and overrated dramas of recent times. Yes, Saba Qamar’s performance is impressive but the story isn’t the least bit impressive.

Roundup 2017 – Urdu Cinema

2017 has proved a mixed year for the business of the Pakistani Urdu movies. The early half (January – June) of 2017 was quite disappointing as very few films were released which too failed to impress the audience. In the later half the situation improved many folds when the films released on Eidul Azha performed very well. But the dry season returned again after Eidul Azha. With three major Urdu films lined up to release in the last week of 2017 lets hope the ending month of 2017 proves fruitful for the Urdu cinema.

Urdu is the only national language of Pakistan and along with English it is the second official language as well. Statistics wise, Urdu is the first language (or mother tongue) of around 10% population of Pakistan majority of which is concentrated in the cities of Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukker and Mirpur Khas but native Urdu speakers also have presence in all major and minor cities. Urdu is the second language of almost every Pakistani, and has been adopted by every linguistic and ethnic group as a medium of communication.

Historically the main business hub of Urdu cinema was the city of Karachi until Urdu cinema declined in 1980s and Urdu film making almost halted by the start of the year 2000. Since 2013 when the revival of our Urdu cinema, the new generation of Urdu films have succeeded in pulling audience in all the major urban centers of Sindh and Punjab provinces.

This new age cinema has extended its circuit beyond Karachi. Now Urdu films main circuit is in the large urban centers of provinces of Punjab (mainly Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala), Sindh (mainly Karachi, Hyderabad) and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). The most popular genre of Urdu films is comedy, followed by action and drama.

Urdu films saw a limited release in the cantonment areas in the provinces of KPK and Balochistan. In both these provinces Pashto films are in more demand, thus regional cinema dominates the Urdu cinema here. There are no active cinemas in the three federally administrated areas of FATA, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. So out of four provinces and four federal territories Urdu cinema has existence in two provinces (Sindh, Punjab) and one federal area (Islamabad).

The new age Urdu cinema has also succeeded outside Pakistan in the regions/countries where large number of Pakistani expatriates are living. Overseas the leading market for Pakistani Urdu films is in UK, UAE, US, Norway and Canada. But selected Urdu films are now also regularly released in Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, South Africa, Mauritius, Fiji and some European countries (France, Denmark, Germany). Overseas the most successful genre of Urdu films is family drama especially in UK where since 2015 Bin Roye(2015), Janaan (2016) and Punjab Nahin Jaungi (2017) have proven smashing hits. All these three films were of family-drama genre with a pinch of comedy.

The growing trend of Urdu cinema is clutter of films on festive holidays and a relatively dry season in the other months. Most of the films released this year targeted the public holidays like Eidul Fitr, Independence day, Eidul Azha, Pakistan Day and Christmass/Quaid Day. So the release of the films was relatively unevenly distributed.

This article is a month wise summary of the Urdu films released in this year. The collections posted are taken from the website boxofficedetail.com. Unluckily in our country the official business and budget of the film is seldom made public for the reasons better known to film makers and film distributors, so one has to rely on the unofficial and unconfirmed statistics.

January 2017
The starting month of the year benefits from the school holidays in the start of the month. But there has been on Urdu film released in the start of January. There is no public holiday in this month.

Only one Urdu film was announced and finally made it to the cinemas in January 2017. The film was Thora Jee Lay (TJL), directed by Rafay Rashdi who is the son of politician/host and social activist Mehtab Rashdi whereas the later was the producer of the film.

In January the cinema industry of Pakistan was struggling for existence due to the self imposed ban on the screening of Bollywood films (in October 2016). Though by the end of January 2017, this ban is lifted.

TJL was a story of six friends who were class fellows in the university. TJL introduced seven new faces on the big screen namely Rizwan Ali Jaffri,Bilal Abbas,Kasim Khan,Fatima Shah Jillani,Ramsha Khan,Salman Faisal,Ahsan Mohsin Ikram. TJL proved a half baked attempt of film making and was quite average in all the departments. The film bombed at the box office and thus the first Urdu film of 2017 proved an overall disappointment. TJL was severely criticized by the critics on social media and printing press.

Out of the seven new faces only Bilal Abbas Khan and Ramsha Khan impressed with their performance.

Raasta bombed at the box office and received criticism from bloggers and film critics. Yalghaar is a long awaited film which is in production since December 2013 after three and half year the film is finally released on Eidul Fitr in June. Directed by Hassan Waqar Rana, it has a long star cast. Yalghaar is considered as the most expensive film produced in Pakistan. The film has many lows the screenplay of the film was not impressive, the characters were not well developed. All in all the film was well below the expectations. Being an Eid release the film earned well in the opening weeks but failed to grow its business further. The film was released in Pakistan as well overseas. July 2017

No public holiday falls in July, but traditionally the number of releases in this month is high as it is the time of summer vacations in the country. There was announcement of three films in this month, sadly none of which is released in the end. The films were Project Ghazi, Chain Aye Na and Shor Sharaba. Project Ghazi release was cancelled just few days before its release leaving a bad impact on the ability of the production team. Chain Aye Na was delayed and released in August.

August 2017

The public holiday of independence day falls in this month. Two films were announced and released in this month. Both films have some similarities like produced in Lahore, released on the independence day weekend (11th August 2017), new faces in the leading roles along with seasoned artists and both failed miserably as well. The films were Chain Aaye Na and Jeo Sir Utha Ke.

Chain Aaye Na was the comeback of veteran director Syed Noor on the big screen. The trailer of Chain Aaye Na was released in the last week of June and received severe harsh response. The four minute long trailer was quite outdated and out of place. After lots of criticism two weeks later the film makers released the second trailer, trimmed to 2 minutes saying the first trailer was released without proper editing. However the second trailer failed to neutralize the devastating impacts of the first trailer.

Initially scheduled for 21st July 2017, the film ultimately released on 11th August 2017. The film received negative reviews in the English daily Dawn and Express Tribune as well on few social blogs. The reviewer in Dawn declared the film for enticing stalking as well as violence against women as in one scene the hero slaps the heroine thrice without any reason. October 2017
October was the third month (after May and July) in which no Urdu film was released which was an irony, as two Urdu films released in September proved block buster. Despite the grand success, no film maker released any film in October.

November 2017
The dry spell of Urdu cinema continued in November and only one major film Verna was released.

Verna has many highlights, the biggest of of which was its producer/director/writer Shoaib Mansoor followed by Mahira Khan the leading lady. Shoaib Mansoor returned to big screen after a gap of six long years. Despite presence of such big names Verna proved average at box office.

Being a serious films it was never expected to earn huge but its business was below expectation. The film catered multiple social ills prevailing in the society but failed to do complete justice with its subject. Many film critics rated the film is the weakest film of Shoaib Mansoor and Mahira Khan’s career.

Film: Verna (ورنہ)
Release Date: 17th November 2017

December 2017
The last month of the year is in progress and four films are releasing in it. It is the highest number of films in any month of 2017. Ishq Wala Love, Rangreza, Arth The Destination and Chuppan Chupai are the four films where last three a major productions.

This month has one public holiday of Christmas/Quaid Day on 25th December and two films Rangreza and Arth The Destination are releasing on Christmas weekend. The third film Chuppan Chupai is releasing on new years weekend.

There are huge expectations from all these three films and hopefully their success will provide a favorable farewell of the year 2017 to the Pakistani cinema.

So this concludes the compilation of the films released this month. On the whole it was a mixed year with few successful and mostly unsuccessful films. Most film makers tried to sail safe by restricting their films to festive holidays. Hopefully in the 2018 the film makers will dare to also target the months without any festive holiday too so that Urdu films release all year round.

Thanks for reading and do comment about your favorite films of the year 2017. Which film you liked the most, any particular area and reason for the liking.

The campaign also intends to raise awareness about the hurdles faced by transgenders and make a difference by simply uploading a video of yourself changing the way you clap. Each video posted will contribute to creating equal opportunities and educational outreach for the transgender community.

Many Pakistani celebrities stood by this cause and posted videos of themselves to show their support.

Model Cybil Chowdhry took to Instagram and captioned the video, “No matter how different someone is, they deserve respect and equality. I applaud these strong individuals for their bravery and valour. #ChangeTheClap”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bcm1MB4lWTF/

Baaghi actor Osman Khalid Butt also shared his views on the issue. He wrote, “I grew up in a society where the very term ‘hijra‘ was, and still is, used mockingly to question masculinity; where the transgender community was seen as freaks of nature: to be indulged for a quick, nasty laugh; paraded, perhaps at weddings for entertainment, but never respected… never seen as human. No. This cannot continue. It’s time we change ridicule into applause. It’s time we show the transgender community that they are not children of a lesser God. Change your mindset. #ChangeTheClap #SupportTransgenderRights”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bck8t3sDvLJ/

Ace-designer Munib Nawaz wasn’t one to stay quite either. He also wrote that it was time to stop shaming transgenders.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BckgkClDEQ_/

The Bulbulay actor Ayesha Omer penned, “Change the way you deal with transgender people on a daily basis. Change the way you laugh or snigger at them on the roads. Change the way you think #ChangeTheClap”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bch_lfVBKVW/

Even Jawani Phir Nahi Aani star Ahmed Ali Butt shared his opinion, “A clap to seek forgiveness, appreciate and applaud the transgender community for simply being themselves. You have our full support #ChangeTheClap”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bchcerkl0rL/

Singer/Actor Asim Azhar joined the campaign as well and captioned his video “Majority of the trans people do not have access to education and jobs and are reduced to low level work only to be publicly ridiculed. It is high time we turn ridicule to applause, it’s time to #ChangeTheClap ?? ”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BckZk0ZAcDo/?tagged=changetheclap

Ushna Shah went all #ChangeTheClap as well and wrote, “More power to the transgender community! #ChangeTheClap #ushnashah #equality #freedom”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BcmuVA1lMY2/?tagged=changetheclap

More celebrities are joining the campaign with every passing minute and we hope this initiative is a huge success because there can be no other way.

Do tell us about your stance on this.

Best Trends Of 2017

Every year brings a whole new era of style, dressing and grooming. Some of them are carried over from the previous year but as months pass, the trends evolve into better and more modern versions of their previous selves. However, some are entirely new and chance happenings that looks cool enough to become the hip thing and everyone tries to follow suit. Celebrities are usually the first people to adopt all the new trends of the season and since public can see them all over the electronic and print media and ofcourse, social platforms of today, their styles are followed by many. 2017 has brought some extremely versatile and beautiful modern trends, a lot of which look good enough to stay through the next year as well. Let’s take a look at them;

Tassle Earrings

Best Trends Of 2017

Tassle earrings have taken over the world of artificial jewellery by a storm this year. Everyone was seen sporting them and they look really good with all types of casual and semi formal wear. Many jewellery designers have incorporated them into their latest ranges and you can find them easily from small shops to big brands and pair them up with a cool kurta shalwar or casual top and jeans .

Backapacks

Best Trends Of 2017

Backapacks have taken a big modern twist these year and almost everyone now has one in their accessories’ collection, and for good reason. Why would you want to weigh down your arms and shoulders with heavy saddle and bucket bags when you can go easy on yourself. They distribute the weight evenly and leave you hands free and are much easier to navigate than your usual shoulder bag. A win win in our opinion.

No Make-up Makeup

Best Trends Of 2017

Perhaps the most refreshing trend this year has been the look of less makeup. Gone are the days when you would see actresses piled high with colour on their face, doing the dishes or going through a traumatic experience with fully made up face. Now is the time to look nude and fresh, basic and soft and let your skin show. Not only has the world of dramas taken up this trend but celebrity guests on morning shows and on their social media accounts also appear bare faced, with the appropriate touch ups where necessary. The trick is to make up your face in a way that it looks like skin, albeit a dewy glowing one.

Formals In White Best Trends Of 2017

The color of peace was seen this year designed, cut and sewn into glamorous formal attires, and they looked absolutely gorgeous. It is amazing how many hues this colour has and how it can be decorated into party and bridal wear. If you add the right accessories, then you can add a beautiful splash of colour and if you sport it with a red lippy, you will be the queen of the party in no time.

Tinted Shades

Best Trends Of 2017

Sunglasses are always the best accessory to look put together in an instant, no matter how rough a day you are having. This year, along with a hundred different shapes, the shades also took a hundred different hues, and they looked really cool in the very long and hot summer days.

HD BROWS

Best Trends Of 2017

The case of strong sharply defined brows is going strong and there’s nothing that can give your face such a youthful lift as sharply defined full brows. They have become an essential part of makeup now and nobody gets fully ready without lining, brushing, filling and defining the brows.

Cool Spectacles

Best Trends Of 2017

Gone are the days when you had to hide your glasses and act as if you don’t wear any. It’s time to be trendy and hip and don your spectacles proudly. A lot of extremely stylish people are now seen with eye wear while out and about in the public and they look less of a problem and more of an accessory now, especially when you are in the mood of sporting a casual outfit.

Waves And Texture In The Hair

Best Trends Of 2017

Thankfully, time to be dead straight with your hair has gone and now it’s all about thick wavy luscious locks, heavy in texture. Big blowdrys and loose curls have been the rage this year. So have highlights and lowlights and multi shaded colours. In general, hair have gotten a lot dressier and it’s much more trendy to experiment with them and give them life and bounce. Be sure to tame the friz though. That is still a no no.

Crossbody Bags

Best Trends Of 2017

2017 has been all about finding style in your comfort, rather than the other way round. So another evolution seen in bags has been the appearance of cross body ones, which again leave you hand free and easy to drive, play, shop and dance, should you wish to. All the big  designer have gotten into this as well and such bags are available for every budget in Pakistan and abroad.

Revamping The Shalwar Kameez

Best Trends Of 2017The most beautiful trend of this year has to be the revamping of our national dress. Nothing looked more beautiful than the embroidered kurtas and embellished kameez in pastels and earthy tones. Accompnying them have been pants of all kinds, from capris to tulip shalwars to bell bottoms to flapper types bottoms, there has been an influx of kurta clad girls in all genres of life, since there are so many ways to make it look cool and pleasing to the eye, while appearing modern and trendy at the same time.

Short Frock

Best Trends Of 2017

Another beautiful trend of the season is short frock with bell bottoms or shararas. The pair look absolutely stunning if worn on a narrow waist. It has been the most seen look in formal wear these days in parties and weddings.

These are the styles that we think made 2017 more aesthetically pleasing and inspiring. Let us know in the comments if you updated your looks with any of these year.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 6 Review – Complicated Relationships

I truly appreciate the fact that the makers of the drama and the actors involved have put in a lot of hard work into this project but there are plenty of scenes in every episode which are repetitive. I don’t mind watching a drama which is slow paced as long as every episode offers something new and there is no repetition. The different shades of the characters are being revealed gradually therefore I am pretty sure that the writer has a lot of surprises in store for the viewers, the drama however will be much more interesting if it picks up pace. Some of the scenes covering the family politics in this episode were stretched but the scenes covering Sila and Sadia’s track and the one’s showing the change in Zaini’s behavior were to the point and added something new to the story.

This episode opened with Sila packing Hathim’s bag and telling him to go back to the hostel because he deserved better than staying in Noor Manzil. Hathim and Sila’s relationship has to be the best part of this drama because very often in dramas like this one, the victim hardly ever has someone in the family who tries to understand her and supports her. Hathim and Sila love each other and they have their own ways of showing this love for each other. Hathim wants to stay in Noor Manzil because that is the only way in which he can protect Sila and Sila wants him to leave because she wants him to stay away from all the negativity which is a part of everyday life in Noor Manzil especially for this particular family. The actor playing Hathim’s role is doing complete justice to his role and Yumna Zaidi has been handling her role superbly too. These two also share amazing on screen chemistry.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 6 Review - Complicated Relationships

Saman Ansari’s performance in this episode was just as remarkable as it has been throughout. She gives you so many reasons to feel for Sadia and you understand her helplessness completely. Unlike Sila, there is no one in the house who understands or loves Sadia. Even Sila hates her mother because she thinks that her mother has been highly irresponsible and selfish. This episode once again showed that although Sila didn’t have the confidence to share her opinion in front of her father but she told her mother exactly what she thought about her every chance she got. Sila’s conversation with Zaini showed the difference between these girls and it was really good to see Zaini trying to convince Sila to take a stand for herself.

Raheel’s character has taken an unpredictable and interesting turn. It was good to see him taking a stand for Sila. Sikandar was shown judging his wife and daughter once again without questioning his own behavior towards them even once. Joi understands Sikandar’s mindset a little too well, which is why he does whatever he can to manipulate him. The scene in which Sadia “presented” herself to Joi but he refused went to show that this was more about taking control than anything else. Nauman Ijaz has never played such a character before but he is beyond amazing as Joi. His body language, overall outlook and expressions are always faultless.

The most appealing aspect of this drama has to be the seriousness with which different issues have been highlighted and the variety of characters. There are plenty of characters who are now supporting Sila in their own ways which is a good change. The downside of the play is the emphasis on family politics and the overall pace of the show. The preview of the next episode looked really interesting, Zaini’s character is turning out to be my favorite! She is an unapologetic strong girl who knows exactly what she wants and is completely capable of helping someone in need!

How many of you watched this episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Daldal Episode 10-17 Review

Daldal was a highly anticipated drama from the first photos that Zahid Ahmed posted. Although the duo of him and Armeena Rana Khan was doubtful for me at first, let’s just say time does tell! Daldal (English translation: Earthquake) follows the lives of the six members of a poor but honest family, including Shuja and Kamran. Generally, these seven episodes have focused primarily on the lives of these two and the people that revolve around them.

To wrap it up to the present, Shuja has arrived in London after travelling illegally and going through a lot of trouble. The scenes in the containers and during their stay in Iran were raw and emotional, but could be executed better. I think the way the camera was positioned just didn’t do justice to how brilliant these scenes could be. I may be exaggerating it but after taking a co-op course in directing I wish it had been done better.

Meanwhile Saniya and Kamran’s track have come to a bit of a close. They had their nikkah done when Saniya’s father was arrested and her baraat left. Most of that part was really fast but well done, and the scene where her in-laws came back to ask for money was so outrightly disgusting! I’m also not sure why Saniya’s Mother is always excused for being “too sick”.

Kamran, on his own, has found a sturdy job and is receiving success in his work life. It was nice to see that he has become an independent yet considerate individual. He is an epitome of maturity, and I think Muneeb Butt has done his fair share in making this innocent, smart young man come to life. Kamran has grown to become so much like his father and it really is pleasant to see someone who has contrasted a lot from his brother yet still has success in life.

Sakina, ever herself, is one of the two OTT and annoying characters in this drama. If anything, the actress has made me hate her with extreme passion. I just don’t understand her state of mind as to not accepting Saniya as her daughter-in-law. If it was anything, it would have been that Sakina wants her last son to strike gold in terms of wealth (like Shuja did with Hira) but Saniya comes from a good family. Her extent of trying taveez on Saniya and Kamran’s relationship was shocking, but not unexpected as Sakina is shown to do whatever, whenever.

Then we have Shuja. Arriving in London he thought he has already gone through the “hard” time and now the money will just rain over him. I was chiding myself on laughing at some of his reactions, like walking into his new room and the nightly struggle of people on people.

Now to Episode 17, the most recent one that didn’t really progress a lot but still played a significant role. Shuja has come to realize that one job is not going to do anything for him, despite Sakina’s happiness. The way Sakina waited for the half minute to run out so that Hira didn’t get a chance to speak with him was just cruel, but isn’t the worse she has done. In terms of Shuja and Hira this episode was them living in their past together. I thought it all pretty repetitive and not necessary, like we have seen enough of Hira crying over her husband! Now Shuja has a new night job, and it seems bad things are following him everywhere! First is drug dealing boss and now selling drinks, he is in awe and unwilling to perform this jobs but the struggle is real.

Kamran and Saniya are married now, and is it just me or does the actress, Kinza, not look that great with a load of makeup? She is a really pretty girl in almost all the scenes but with a lot of bridal makeup she looked more orange. I skipped through their scene together because we have had enough of Kamran’s vows and know that he will be a GREAT and UNDERSTANDING husband. I hope Hira’s jealousy doesn’t take over and ruin this PERFECT relationship but the way it has been crafted seems to signal otherwise.

And now for the final scene. I am known on reviewit.pk as “kubrafanxo” but I’m not that appreciative of her versatility anymore. Really, there was no background into who Kubra Khan is playing, so I’ll have to wait till next week! In an interview she mentioned her cameo appearance is “blunt and very funny”, and I really hope that she pulls through with it! Kubra playing a comical role is something we all wanted to see in Shadi Mubarak Ho.

To be honest, after seventeen episodes I really don’t know what is left for this drama. I’m kind of glad Kubra was introduced because there is nothing I am looking forward to otherwise!

This is my first review so I’m sorry if it’s a bit choppy or all over the place! Feel free to leave me some constructive feedback and…

Until next time,

Alishba Malik (aka Kubrafanxo)

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 34 Review – One Good Episode!

Ohkay so, after weeks, this was one good episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan, I am sure it was because the focus was on the main characters & their tracks moved forward too!

The most heart wrenching scenario in this episode was of Rani’s mother finding the truth about her daughter. The way she was still holding onto the money that Rani gave her showed that even after so much time has passed, she never lost hope & always believed that her daughter will come back. The way a passerby told Rani’s mother about her again made me think how Rani’s neighbour couldn’t recognize her because she was in the news & was everywhere. Later when the mother told her younger daughter to take care of herself was a beautiful reminiscent of what she used to say to Rani & that is why the way she broke down in disappointment because she couldn’t believe what she heard was heartbreaking. She finally found out what Rani did after she left her parents’ place & I definitely want to know if she will ever come across Rani? Will she be able to meet her grand daughter? I’m definitely interested to see that!

Shahzeb’s prayers were answered & that boy recovered. Even though Zaitoon didn’t appreciate what the servant said about forgetting the idea of Shahzeb’s marriage, later the way she praised her son & seemed happy with what she heard went to show that Zaitoon loved her son unconditionally, that is why she was standing by side once again, showing her support for his new journey!

Basit tried to approach Shahzeb & he turned his back, which was a natural reaction because Basit reminded Shahzeb of the bad phase that came in his life, that is why it was an impulsive reaction where he chose not to give him any chance to explain himself. Later when Shahzeb introspected, he realized that he was forgetting what Baba Jee taught him & how it was his responsibility to let go of any harsh feelings that he might have towards anyone.

Nazneen was faced with another trouble & sadly, her own friend started judging her the moment she realized that her own marriage would be called off if Taimur would get married to Nazneen. Even though Nazneen did say that she will nurture the love Taimur has for her, I think she will turn his proposal down, but let’s see!

Zimmal & Arsalan got engaged & it was suggested that Zimmal’s parents would gift her a house so that she can still live a comfortable life but I think the first thing they should gift Arsalan is a shampoo because he is in a dire need of one. Even though Zimmal’s parents accepted Arsalan & his family, they couldn’t stop judging his mother. At least they should know that she comes from a very different background so there was no need to be so upset over her demeanour. Well, the more I get to watch this track, the more I get to see the flaws – Zimmal was very clear that she would keep her marriage with Arsalan a secret & she specifically mentioned it to him but now the news of their ‘baat pakki’ was already circulating the university?

Oh, Shammo called Rani & he was always in contact with her even when she shifted to her new apartment & it was now that he found out about her daughter? Rani was emotionally dependent on Shammo, so it doesn’t make sense that of all the people, she wouldn’t tell Shammo about her daughter? Anyways!

Overall, it was a decent episode & Rani’s mother made it better. I really think they should end this drama now by wrapping all the tracks decenty. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Getting Famous – No Big Deal!!!

There was a time when getting recognized and famous required a great deal of effort. The actors, models and singers had fierce competition to be part of limited projects and there was no social media or PR to help these celebrities reach every household in the easiest way possible. Back in the day, the people who used to get famous or those who became celebrities had some talent, some craft up their sleeves to prove their position in the industry and those celebrities focused more on their skill rather than the fame which came with the territory. Those people didn’t really have any shortcuts to the fame and a constant and consistent hard work was a prerequisite for them to establish themselves. Back then, those who became public figures and celebrities put their blood sweat and tears to materialize their dream because their objective was to channel out the inner artist in them, but that is not the case anymore because the focus has shifted and everyone has become a bit too commercial. It by no means is being implied that the celebrities these days are talent-free, but in most cases it has become easier to become a celebrity even if someone has limited or next to zero ability.

Nowadays, there are innumerable television channels and so many new production houses which are constantly searching for talent therefore an aspiring actor, singer or model has more opportunities to get work. While there are many actors, models and singers who have worked really hard to get recognition and respect from people, there are many more who are neither talented actors nor good singers but they are equally “famous”, well-recognized and definitely enjoy celebrity status if not star status! They are also those “celebrities” who are only famous because they are social media sensations. These people don’t have any particular talent but somehow they managed to get popular because they know how to get people’s attention. Some actors, singers and models have very few projects to their credit, they have hardly worked in any quality projects yet they are in the news and even have a massive following because they used the right “tools” to get recognized! In short, gone are the days when talent alone could make a person popular because getting famous is as easy as pie now!!! When everything else fails there is always You Tube!

There are also those celebrities who do have a few good projects to their credit but they also exploit social media handles to the maximum in order to get attention from the public when their work isn’t enough to get them the attention they want. Also, there are some celebrities who bank on social media more than their performances.

Here are some easy ways (read shortcuts) which many people follow nowadays to get famous:

Post Some Cute Pictures On Social Media…Make People Fall In Love With Your Lifestyle!!!

Yes! Believe it or not there are tons of people on instagram who have a massive following only because they post cute pictures!! The thing with social media is that it is so convenient to make the perfect image of yourself in people’s mind by posting things which show that no one has a better life than you and there is no person more perfect than you. There are some actors and singers even who only have a few projects to their credit and they never really proved their mettle through their work yet they are social media sensations and are considered celebrities because of the likes on their social media pages and yes, they take pride in their ‘fan following’ too by bragging about the numbers. Also, there are many agencies who are more than willing to offer work to these people because they rule social media and this is how these celebrities get to stay in the public eye by using their following! Whether you have talent or not if you are a social media sensation you will get the recognition you don’t deserve!

Getting Famous - No Big Deal!!!

Wear Expensive Clothes And Show Up On Mega Events…Hang Out With The “Cool” Crowd! If You Have Rich And Famous Parents, Even Better!

Believe it or not people “look forward” to what a certain person will be wearing at a big event and envy them for their lifestyle! There are many people who were born with a silver spoon and have parents who made a name for themselves therefore being so and so’s child and being social can make anyone a celebrity instantly! While most people know better, there are tons of people who envy such people’s lifestyles and make them pretty famous. As a result the magazines and blogs cover the lifestyle of these people like its headline news! Hanging out with the in and cool crowd also gets your enough attention to be a mini celebrity in the world of social media!

Stay Made up And Heavily Edited All The Time!

Since it is so easy to make people fall in love with some unique hair color, pore less skin and pearlescent complexion and made-up beauty, these celebrities rely heavily on Photoshop and Filters. People will hardly come across any such picture of these celebrities that would not be retouched or filtered. These celebrities would never ever post their bare-faced selfie because that would reveal all the secrets. They want to make-believe their followers that they are always ‘this’ perfect or in other words, they were born this way, that is why they lie to their fans into believing that they are flawless!

The Right PR Is The Key To Stardom…The Image Sometimes Is More Important Than The Actual Work You Do!

This is a bitter truth! We have had examples of some “stars” recently who are not immensely talented but have the right PR therefore there is always a hype surrounding their projects. These PR agents also make sure that the newspapers, blogs and magazines give these individuals the right kind of attention. They are well looked after and this helps people fall in love with them. Also, no matter how talented a person is unless they have the proper PR they can’t get very far because the competition is fierce! Nowadays, the PR gurus take over actors, singer or models with potential and it is only then that they become proper stars. Proper marketing and PR ensures that half the battle is won even before a project airs on the television or cinema screens.

Getting Famous - No Big Deal!!!

A Sentimental Status To The Rescue…..Rant About Heavy Subjects And Voila!

If a celebrity is not getting enough attention, the easiest way of getting some attention from the public is to post sentimental statuses on any of the social media handles. There are times when these statuses come from the heart and then there are other celebrities who are constantly relying on sentiments alone to get people’s attention and support. Very often religion and patriotism are two favorite topics used by such celebrities and they always work like magic.

Body-shaming, woman empowerment, or let’s say being criticized for their choices evokes a lengthy status from such celebrities and it is enough to stir the pot because it most certainly works. Under such status updates you will find two groups of people where one will be of the defendants and the other will be of the attackers, where people literally waste their energies by getting so involved in these comment wars, they forget that the celebrity which posted the update is the one getting benefited from it the most because all of a sudden numerous articles get published about them and they come into the limelight. These days, it is like these celebrities have made a habit of posting their rants about trivial things because it gets them the attention they yearn for.

Provocative Statuses And Videos…..Controversy Sells!

There are people out there who only have provocative videos and statuses to their credit yet they are so popular and talked about! Yes! People aren’t always praises for them, in fact most often they face tons of criticism but that doesn’t mean the public will stop tuning into their videos or following them!! The sad fact is that the public in our country in general follows the same people they criticize. Some people make themselves controversial only because they know that they will get even more attention if they do not fit in! The fact is that controversy sells, it makes people inquisitive and controversial people become popular even if isn’t in a good sense only because people choose not to ignore these attention-seeking tactics!

Getting Famous - No Big Deal!!!

If You Have Zero Talent Then Try To Get Famous For All The Wrong Reasons

Yes, it is as simple as that. These ‘celebrities’ might not be a good singer, or they might not even know how to act, but having a camera and an internet connection is enough for them to become an overnight sensation because it doesn’t matter if they turn themselves into a laughing stock, it just takes a few shares to get attention and yes, they make the most of ‘share’ option on the social media. It may be the worst song they could ever sing or meaningless commentary on random things that they do, it gets them somewhere, easy right?

What do you think about these points? Don’t you think people need to think twice before they like or follow a page or click on a video since after all they are the ones giving these people the attention they are so desperately looking for! Also, since these celebrities rely so much on their social media following, isn’t it important for them to be as transparent as possible?

Do share your thoughts on who do you think these celebrities are by naming them and what do you think about their shortcuts?

Khaani Episode 6 Review – The Obsession

Khaani Episode 6 Review - The Obsession

So this episode was mainly about Hadi’s confusion as to what could make someone unafraid of him. He is basically a megalomaniac (someone who thrives on feeling powerful) whose whole world is shattered when a vulnerable young middle class girl stands up to face him. There were a lot of important issues raised in this episode, but the one things that deserves appreciation is Sana Javed’s acting. She did really well in this episode. Her dialogues when Hadi confronted him were on spot and delivered immaculately. The courage was not only conveyed through words but her body language, her stance, her eyes and that really made it a powerful scene. In her own way, she has become a thorn in Mir Hadi’s side, who is introduced to a new type of human beings that he did not know existed, those who still believes there is someone up high who controls all decisions and who are unafraid of everyone but Him. Till now he has only seen meeklings to whom he and his father are the only gods they know.

While Sana’s character is quite precise and inspiring, Feroze Khan is seeming like a psychopath altogether. Bothered by someone who wants to forget he even existed is the case of an extremely insecure and unstable person. On top of that, there is this glaring class difference where one girl has to leave her studies and work two jobs while travelling on public transport, and then there is this man who has the luxury of time and money to just aimlessly roam the streets in search of his newfound obsession in a brand new Jeep with armed servants. If they are trying to make Hadi’s character the shallowest, the weakest and very despicable, then the writer and director are on spot. However, the promo showed him using the word payar, which I hope is not what it will turn into, or atleast it will remain one sided if Hadi is deluded enough to believe it is love that he is in.

Rest of the episode was also not too bad. Khaani’s parents were totally supportive of their daughter’s decision of getting a job so they can make ends meet after the father’s paralysis. Salma Hassan and Sana Javed are a perfect mother daughter duo ; strong, independent yet very kind and caring. Saman Ansari is consistently doing well as the shallow , fake and selfish Sitara and so is Mehmood Aslam.

The last scene was well written and executed. Sarim had planned a surprise for Khaani which their younger sisters had to give her in very sad circumstances. As Khaani opened the thoughtful gifts, all three of them got wrapped up in their own grief for their loving brother who has gone too soon from their lives, but especially Khaani who shared a special bond with him that only twins can understand.

Amir Khan has just been evicted from I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, making him the seventh contestant to leave the show, reported Daily Mail.

Amir said his goodbyes when he was named as the next celebrity to be evicted. Leaving Jamie Lomas, Jennie McAlbine, Georgia Toffolo and Iain behind, Amir headed over to speak to Ant and Dec.

“I’ve had such a great time. I never expected it to be so good as I’ve never seen it but I conquered my fears and had the best time. I feared sleeping outside. I didn’t want to be around trees but now, I can be around trees.”

Amir Khan's journey in "I'm a celebrity..." ends on his 31st birthday

Leaving the show on his birthday, Amir stated,

“It was wonderful to spend my 31st birthday with an amazing team. I’ll remember that for life and tell my kids that I spent it in the jungle. Who else can say that?”

Also referring to his surprising lack of knowledge, Amir joked that he learnt a lot on the show such as

“there’s a woman prime minister and there’s cheese in cheesecake.”

First post cinema revival Sindhi feature film is on it’s way

Pakistani film industry has seen it’s worst in the last two decades but this decade not only brought the revival of mainstream cinema but will also be reviving our cinema at a more grass root level. Film-maker Jami Mahmood is producing a Sindhi feature film in Pakistan, which may possibly be the first since the recent rebirth of local cinema.

First post cinema revival Sindhi feature film is on it's way

Titled Jugnu, it is directed by Ali Abbas Naqvi, an Iqra University faculty member. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Naqvi said the project initiated in 2013.

“I graduated from the University of Karachi in 2012. In 2013 we had a screening of thesis films in Aga Khan University, where Jami was part of the jury. After the screening, he approached us with an idea about a boy and his goat.”

The team then worked on the script for several years.

We wrote 14 drafts and now the 15th one is the final, which we are currently shooting. We had to work on a lot of things and we realised that the city would be better off if it’s set in a rural environment. So, we spent a month in Moro to research and observe our surroundings and understand how people live to get a vibe. We decided to focus on issues that aren’t talked about a lot usually, such as weak electricity poles etc.”

He shared that the film also includes Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s vision.

“There is a local Sufi touch to the film and for that we have Saif Samejo as the music composer. It’s not finalised yet but there will be three or four songs in the film.”

Naqvi also pointed out that the film isn’t completely in Sindhi language and will have Urdu as well. The film-maker is inspired by Iranian films, especially Majid Majidi’s movies. He hopes to bring similar sensibilities to Jugnu.

“I just want to tell people a good story and this film has such a human story. I saw that when we were talking to people here, they related to it.”

Lack of cinemas is definitely a problem and Naqvi’s plan is to screen the movie in different festivals before he goes for a public screening. We wish team Jugnu good luck and hope to see our local cinema flourish even more.

Mujhe Jeenay Du Episode 14 Review – Highly Disappointing!

The story moved forward with this episode but with every passing episode I am finding it even more difficult to keep my interest in this drama alive. The story is all over the place and even though all the actors are doing complete justice to their respective characters, their tracks lack enough substance and depth to keep the viewers coming back for more. Some of the scenes in tonight’s episode which should have been really impactful fell flat completely. The scene in which Saira went to say goodbye to Shabo had to be one of the most unimpressive scenes in this entire episode. Ever since Shabo and Saira have grown up their relationship with each other has lost the spark it had before completely. What was once a beautiful friendship now looks like a forced track in a story which has stopped making sense altogether. The way Saira welcomed Shaheena when she came back to Naseeb’s house also did not make sense at all since just a little while back she was sitting and complaining about Shaheena! Apart from this a lot of screen time was wasted on showing conversations which didn’t add anything new to the story. For instance the scene covering Shaheena’s meeting with Yasmin was stretched for no reason.

Mujhe Jeenay Du Episode 14 Review - Highly Disappointing!

Even though so many years have passed and so much has happened between different characters yet their relationships remain the same. I feel that the writer has failed to do justice to all these tracks in this phase of the story since there has been very little character development and the relationship dynamics between different characters haven’t been shown in a proper manner. All these people had something to offer before but now their tracks have absolutely no meaning. Muhammadu’s track is going around in circles and some of the scenes in every episode are highly repetitive. Even if Murad kills Muhammadu, the development will have absolutely no impact since Muhammadu never played an important role in the story. Saira’s character has to be the biggest disappointment so far since she is the main protagonist and for the longest time the viewers felt for her character. I was looking forward to her track the most as the story progressed to the next phase but unfortunately this track too just like all the others has lost its charm completely.

Naseeb for the first time felt attracted towards Saira which too seemed like a delayed development and one which will probably have not much of an impact on the story! Right now, it is difficult sitting through this drama because it has lost its purpose completely. The pace of the drama has slowed down and every episode has more than its fair share of filler scenes. In an attempt to prolong the drama, the writer has lost his grip on the story and sometimes I feel that these new episodes haven’t been written by the same person who wrote the first 11 episodes. It is sad watching a drama like this one going downhill since it started off with a definite purpose and it fit the bill as well. After this episode I have very little hope that Mujhe Jeenay Du will get back on track but I will be tuning into it only to find out how they wrap up the story.

Muniba Mazari Faces Criticism, Court Charges, Ousting And Replies To It All

Muniba Mazari Faces Criticism, Court Charges, Ousting And Replies To It AllMuniba Mazari, the thirty year old paraplegic has been the Iron Lady of Pakistan for a long time now. People are used to see her smiling face on the screens, billboards and the social media where she is very active. Recently, however she has been caught in a whirlwind of controversies where she has been sued for 10 million by her ex-husband for defamation, the twitterati has turned against her for her anti-men statements, another artist has claimed she stole her artwork, and The Disability Association has ousted her. This is a lot of negativity for one person to handle. On top of this, her interview that she gave to PTV some five years back is going viral. In that one she said while answering a question about her husband’s attitude to her during and after the fateful accident that left her paralyzed from waist down;

“He was driving with me but Alhumdulillah he is fine. I am alive today and all the credit goes to him. I get emotional at times but he is such a real person. We are more than friends. When I cry he cries with me. But he tells me that I can do whatever I want to do. He doesn’t have any issue with my job and my work.”

Now in a recent speech, she said that her husband jumped out of the car and saved her life and now he is married again. Even though she said she is happy for him and was just sharing her struggle for normalcy, it created a lot of backlash. She was criticised left right and centre.

Some people however, still kept their support for her

Days after this row, another artist Laiba Baig brought her accusations to public eye that Muniba had been stealing her artwork and claiming it’s her own.

Now the Disability Movement has dissociated itself from Muniba saying that she is seeking sympathy and introducing idealism into disability. They said she is merely cashing in on her paraplegia rather than doing anything helpful for disabled people.

Amidst all this, Muniba has written a long post on Facebook which she has shared on twitter as well. It is rather long but if you really wish to know her reasons and logic, you must give it a moment.

To all of my followers, critics and supporters alike,

If you’re reading this and you are married and happy, I wish nothing but a blissful happily ever after for you. Remember that every marriage goes through its ups and down, but as long as you hold on to respect for each other, no mountain is too high and no storm is too great. May your beautiful relationship continue to shade each other and all the loved ones around you.

If you’re reading this and you are married but unhappy and struggling, then know that I am sending all of my love and prayers your way. Remember that you are not alone, that this too is only a phase of your life and like all other phases, this too shall pass. 5 years ago, I was where you are today. My PTV interview circulating around social media is from that time. It is emotionally exhausting to try and make a marriage work, to make sure you don’t wash your dirty laundry in public, to do the best in your power for your child, struggle with the insecurities of what the future may hold all the while maintaining the façade of a perfect marriage. I pray that when this phase is over for you, you too are judged, but unlike me, you are judged for all the right reasons. You are judged for being gracious, for giving your utmost to make the marriage work, and for putting your best foot forward despite screaming in agony on the inside. The relationship of marriage is worth the struggle and I pray yours is rewarded in nothing but positivity. No matter what the outcome, always always remember that in this time of struggle, you are not alone.

If you’re reading this and you are divorced and a single parent, then know that it may seem bleak and impossible to comprehend right now, but the worst is over. You cannot start healing until the problem festering in your heart is dealt with. And though divorce is perhaps the most painful way to handle the problems of your heart (or your life), it in no way means you have failed your children, your family and most importantly, yourself. Perhaps your win will come in the form that you will not be going through the day in day out anguish of feeling disrespected. Your win will come through knowing that you can now live your dreams without an anchor weighing you down. Your win will come through when see your children grow up in a house with one parent, but double the love, triple the respect and four times the happiness of not waking up in a hostile environment on a daily basis. Know that you are not alone, that I and countless others like me share your story. It’s going to be a rocky road of financial insecurities; perhaps you will suffer through custody cases of your child, just like I have been enduring for many years, having multiple people talk behind your back and label you are a disappointment, but remember that those people don’t even have the slightest idea of what this struggle is like. As hard as it may be, do not listen to them. They have not walked in your shoes. I have. And I want to tell you that it may seem impossible but yes, yes, yes, it does get better. That is my promise to you.

If you are reading this and you are divorced, a single parent, but also differently abled while being in the public eye – then please come have tea with me! I would love to meet someone who can help me understand how a paraplegic can be condemned as promiscuous, or keeping your ex anonymous can be labelled as defamation. Life is interesting, and with every stage and every phase you learn more and evolve more. To me, this change is not hypocrisy rather it is proof of a healthy progression in life. Imagine for a moment, being stuck in your present state of mind, and present state of life for all of eternity. What a frightening thought indeed!
None of us is entitled to the intricate details of marital struggles of our cousins, our friends, our neighbours, the girl at our office, the daughter of our maid, the teacher at our school. If we cannot offer them love, then the least we should offer is the freedom to maintain their privacy in this very personal matter.

Let us be kind to one another, starting with being kind to ourselves.

Muniba Mazari

There are always three sides to a story, and the truth always lies somewhere in between. However, we should not be so quick to judge a woman who despite her unfortunate accident and paralysis rose up and shone brightly. She so wanted motherhood that she is devoted to her adopted son despite not being able to do all that a mother has to do. She has full rights to take credit if she has fought and succeeded alone.

Khamoshi Episode 10 Review-Khamosh Larka In!

0

Khamoshi has a really good story but the makers have given extra screen time to unwanted tracks a lot. Arsala is still being a bechari, which she was born to be one. Her only goal in life is to remain “Khamosh” as much as possible and listen to people saying bad stuff about her, be it Atif or Naima or even her own parents. Now she is in total gratification towards Bee Jaan since she gave five lakh rupees for Naima’s marriage to her own ex-fiance. But the writer has stuck to the point that people always end up falling for Arsala’s good behaviour since Zubia is also being a friend towards her. But Zubia’s mom is just out of this world. Since her entry, she is always going out somewhere and she doesn’t have a job. I really want to know how much shopping and socializing the lady can do.

Shahram is an old-school boy and despite all his good qualities and philanthropy projects, we have to admit that he does not know how to impress a girl he likes. He is supporting her financially, talking to Bee Jee about her plight and was even daydreaming about the girl. But still, the skills are lacking. Bee Jee is now suspicious though that Shahram likes Arsala. And from the way he is supporting her, Arsala will not know that Shahram has fallen for her until the last episode. The Khamosh larki has found her Khamosh larka finally.

Khamoshi Episode 10 Review-Khamosh Larka In!

Arsala’s family is just simply insane. I don’t think that in lower-middle-class households in Pakistan, it is allowed for young unmarried girls to shout “mujhe nafrat hai Arsala se” about the sole breadwinner of the house. Moreover, she is defaming her and saying bad things about her character and in place of punching her face, the parents are doubting Arsala. She will now take one lakh for salami too. Atif-the confused is now back to not-hating and only disliking Arsala. He is still mourning over the sister of his future wife. Such a loser!

One thing is for sure, this is Iqra Aziz’s best performance to date since one really starts hating Naima as soon as she comes on the screen which means she has translated the character perfectly on screen.

The drama is running slow and it would have been a much more exciting one if they progress the story forward. Let’s see how Shahram and Arsala’s track progresses since Zubia ki Ammi is not going to happy with her nephew!

Aangan Episode 5 Review – Amazing!

Ohkay so, just like all the previous episodes, this episode of Aangan was equally amazing. The best thing about watching Aangan is that it warms your heart & because as a viewer we have formed a connection with the characters, we understand their journey & their perspective. The way the writer has etched out all the characters & has made them realistic is amazing.

The conservation that Hajra had with Laila was so meaningful. I love the fact that Hajra is not only the eldest in age or relation, she acts like one too because she understands the family dynamics & knows everyone in & out. Even though Hajra has made a place for herself in this house, she still never takes advantage of her position & tries to keep everyone happy & on the same page as much as possible. Hajra tried to make Laila understand that deep inside everyone knew what happened with Rubina was just an accident but they just had to blame someone & that turned out to be Laila. I loved the way Hajra explained Zaitoon’s, Rubina’s & even Anila’s perspective to Laila. The fact is that just by Zahid not being there to take care of his wife, everyone was faced with this situation so Laila ended up taking the brunt of it & it was sweet that Laila not only paid heed to what Hajra said but walked an extra mile to make truce with Rubina by helping her with her kids!

The hashar ka maidan conversation at the breakfast table was again so funny. It is amusing how everyone has formed an opinion about Asim that he only does & says what Laila tells him so. Even though on his own Asim did try to make Laila understand but the way he requested his mother to go easy on his wife showed that he was trying really hard to maintain a balance between the two. I laughed a lot when Sajjad sided with Asim & Abba Jee exactly knew the reason behind this support, which was Bijli Ka Bill that Asim paid for the month. The sweetest bit about this entire family unit is that both Zaitoon & Abba Jee are well aware of their children’s nature & even though they have a lot of complains with everyone, they are incomplete without their family.

Even though Hajra has done so much & has been doing it for so long, she still knows that she can’t make decisions singlehandedly, that is why she not only had to request Zaitoon to get her the permission, she also had to scold Laila to please her mother in law. I thought may be later Hajra will approach & apologize but she was too occupied with her own thoughts because she desperately wanted Abba Jee’s permission.

So finally, Aqdas made an entry & from that very moment he couldn’t take his eyes off Zoya, which obviously marked the beginning of their love story. I am actually interested to see how will Hajra react to this since she wants Shaina to get married to Aqdas.

Overall, this episode was thoroughly enjoyable. The best thing about this drama for me is the way the characters converse with each other, you seriously feel like its your family that is having a conversation. All the actors have done a commendable job but Irsa Ghazal takes the crown, she definitely understands that she was assigned the most important character that is why she has literally owned it. Definitely looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Aangan!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Shayyad Episode 6 Review – Interesting!

Tonight’s episode of Shayyad revealed a side of Saad’s character which showed his desperation as well as his immaturity. While everyone else around him thinks he is depressed because he is afraid that he is losing a childhood friend, no one has been able to decipher the real reason behind his anger and depression. Surprisingly enough, even Mahpara has not been able to figure out why Saad is behaving in an odd manner. So far, apart from his own feelings Saad has been getting enormously influenced by everything he hears. When his friend told him that everything was fair in love and war, he felt he had the license to do whatever he wanted to. Similarly, when his phupo criticized Salar, he instantly felt Hani deserved better. For once phupo’s observation was absolutely right but Hani’s uncle is just as impressed by Salar’s personality as Hani is and Naila just wants Hani to get married so that she doesn’t have to live with another spinster. Phupo on the other hand cannot see Hani getting married because of her own complexes. Mahpara’s scene with her father was hilarious! I absolutely love Irfan Khoosat in this role and would love to see more of him.

Salar’s character is turning out to be completely negative but after tonight’s episode I am more interested than ever in finding out how the relationship between Hani and Salar will turn out to be once these two get married. Salar wants Hani’s undivided attention and treats her like something he owns instead of a human being who has a life of her own too. Tonight, the way he refused to greet Saad properly and later on the manner in which he inquired about Saad clearly showed how possessive he was about Hani. Given his controlling and cold nature, this marriage will probably be a nightmare for Hani.

Shayyad Episode 6 Review - Interesting!

In a way Hani is looking for Saad’s approval, she has always shared all her good and bad times with Saad therefore she is missing Saad’s presence and support now. She was eager to find out what Saad thought about Salar and was upset when he drew that picture to tell her how he felt after meeting Salar. Hani’s situation is interesting and her confusion understandable at this point. Sadia Khan however remains the weakest link in the play. Although overall Uzair Jaswal’s performance wasn’t impressive in this episode but there were a few scenes in which he performed really well. Even though what Saad did tonight was way out of line but I actually like these flaws in his character, his character wouldn’t have been so appealing if he didn’t have these flaws.

Salma’s love story has been relegated to the background all of a sudden and it is almost as if that particular track never took a tragic turn. This is especially strange because her track was getting a great deal of attention before. Although, watching her get a lot less screen time than before is definitely better but then why was there so much focus on her track before?

Although Shayyad isn’t picture perfect but the story is interesting enough to keep your interest alive, it is definitely the kind of drama I look forward to mainly because of the fact that it is unpredictable and interesting enough.

How many of you watched this episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

O Rangreza Episode 20 Review – What’s The Purpose?

Oh the tragedy when you are watching this amazing intense Korean drama & take a break to watch O Rangreza only to find out that it got even more ridiculous than the last time you tuned to it. At first, it seemed like the writer was trying to make a point  & successfully at that, but that point is completely missing from this story now. All the new twists & turns are making this drama look like a joke now & I still can’t believe this is the same drama that I used to love!

With Tipu & all the situations that were created in this track, I think the writer was trying to add some comedy quotient but I think he missed the point that for comedy to work, timing is the most important factor & Saji Gul definitely got that wrong. I think now when Tipu has annoyed every single viewer to the core, there is not going be a single one who is going to laugh let alone smile at his antics. Tipu is after the Haveli & his chunk in it & he thinks getting married would solve all his problems, haa haa haa, we were supposed to laugh right? Oh I am (not) sorry that it is sounding so sarcastic. From letting the viewers know the double standards of men to a head-strong girl fighting to chase her dreams, the story stooped to this level where we were being shown a sissy guy arranging his own marriage without the involvement of his parents & girls’ mother being totally cool with such a bizarre rishta? Chalo larki walon ke koi standards na honge but hum viewers ke to hain!

Ohhh, just last week I mentioned that the characters weren’t evolving & after 19 weeks it finally happened where Qasim scored a win by fighting Sassi ka Sissy sa bhai, bhai wah kya kamal kiya hai 19 weeks baad!!! Also, Mumtaz showed that her vocal chords were in mint condition because of which she could scream like anything. What progess, clap everyone!

I must say the Hmmm Hmmm’mmm Mmmm during Khayyam & Sonia’s confession # 103883739 scene was hilarious, matlab are they really projecting it as a fresh beautiful love that two souls experience for the first time? Sonia is suffering from depression & that is why she resorted to such an extreme. Sonia’s depression needs to be addressed because even her personal assistant was aware of it & she had an episode in front of him too. It is amusing how Khayyam is trying to set a saij for himself & Sonia over Mumtaz’s Haveli, I mean Sonia has made a lot of money, so why is he after something that belongs to Mumtaz? Does Khayyam really think he has to ‘prove’ something to Sonia by doing something so ridiculous? It seems Khayyam is just looking for excuses to buy himself some more time because now when Sonia is ready, the first thing he should do is get married to her in stead of worrying about haveli & flats. Sonia already has a place to stay which even Khayyam is living in, so what’s the point of arranging a place for Sonia? Or may be Khayyam’s ego won’t allow him to stay at Chaudhry’s place after getting married to her?

Sassi has become a struggling actor & she couldn’t tolerate the fact that Meena got to work in one of the projects she was after. I mean it is so ridiculous seeing Meena, an Indian from Chandigarh becoming a dweller here? Matlab behan app ne wapis nahi jana? Or may be she is working to earn some money so that she can go back or may be not as she was trying to arrange a dulha for herself in the form of Qasim. It was funny that Meena was being ‘informed’ about Tipu’s marriage as if she wasn’t living there? This is what the problem in this story is, the writer got too focused on creating individual characters that he forgot to establish proper relations, a chemistry between them all. I mean Tipu & even Mumtaz were planning his marriage, meeting the neighbors & both Meena & Sassi didn’t have any clue about it? Aisa kahan hota hai yaar, even ghar mai 1 hour kaam karne wale servants ko bhi ghar ki har news hoti hai! Also, Khayyam, I mean no matter how cold or distant a father might be, he always keeps an eye on his children, so it is absolutely unconvincing & unreal that Khayyam has left Sassi on her mercy & he is not even bothered about where she is headed? Anyways!

Popular OSTs 2017!

Music is the most important part of the South Asian entertainment. We cannot make a drama or film without songs in it. Where films consist of multiple songs, a drama relies on one soundtrack which has to be good enough to stay on the audiences playlists as long as the drama runs on their screens. The soundtrack of any drama is its soul. People would not have loved Humsafar as much as they did if Woh Humsafar Tha wouldn’t have played in the background. OSTs have been a solace for Pakistani music lovers when the music industry was down. They made the audience connect to Pakistani music. The trend of producing soulful and heart-touching OSTs is, therefore, going on for quite some time now and our musicians have succeeded in giving the audience a lot of good stuff to listen to. This year was no different and every team tried to put out the best soundtrack they can. As a result, many heart-warming OSTs came out this year too and here are to name a few:

Khuda Aur Mohabbat 2:

The OST of Khuda Aur Mohabbat season 1 was so heart-touching that it still was a part of many people’s playlists. This year Khuda Aur Mohabbat season 2 came out. The OST was a bit altered and with the magical voice of Ahmed Jahanzeb, the vocals of Afshan Fawad were added. The whole song is so perfect that once it starts, it stirs something inside you. This was one of the top OSTs this season with perfect music, perfect vocals and perfect video.

Sang-e-Mar Mar:

This drama was too perfect. The direction, the acting, the plot and the OST. Sahir Ali Bagga’s composition and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s vocals can create magic any day. Both of them are masters of their crafts and it showed in the OST. The ghazal feels of this OST were out of this world. The music is extremely soothing and takes you to another world.

Dhaani:

Sung by Zamad Baig, this was another popular OST this year. Whenever Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab’s name is taken, the song has to be good. That was the case with Dhaani’s OST, it was a remake of Nusrat Sahab’s masterpiece and Zamad did a very good job and made the OST a must listen. The drama itself was not that much appreciated but the OST was. Here is Dhaani’s OST:

Khuda Mera Bhi Hai:

Khuda Mera Bhi Hai talked about a very sensitive topic and brought society to think about a social issue the society skips to address as an issue even. The drama showed the problems a transgender individual face from the point of being born. Ayesha Khan showcased the mother of such a kid very nicely. The OST of the drama represents the overall theme and emotions perfectly. A win-win OST by Waqar Ali.

Moray Saiyyan:

People loved the pairing of Uzair and Neha in this play as well as the OST by Qurutul Ain Baloch. QB can nearly pull off anything she sings. The powerful vocals keep you mesmerized. The song was a tad bit slow and kind of sad when you listen to it but later, with the story unfolding it proved out to be a perfect OST for Moray Saiyyan.

Shadi Mubarak Ho:

The only good thing about this drama is its OST. Initially, I looked forward to the drama because of the song. The drama may be skip-worthy and not something one would look forward to but the OST is a win-win. It is a perfect shaadi song. The video is also choreographed in a filmy wedding style but as I said earlier, it was the only impressive thing about this drama.

Ye Raha Dil:

The OST was youthful as was this drama. It is sung by Atif Ali and Samra Khan. It is melodious and easy going. It sounds more like a romantic song one can listen to in rom-coms. The video suits the overall lyrics and music. It was also a good one which came out this year.

https://youtu.be/Ie2m5L3ffo4

Mohabbat Tum Se Nafrat Hai:

The OST of this Ayeza Khan, Imran Abbas and Shehzad sheikh starrer is also a winner, a lot like the story itself. The song is sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and the lyrics are by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar. The two names together had to result in a masterpiece and that is what happened with the OST of Mohabbat Tum Se Nafrat Hai. And it perfectly matched the overall story and ending. Listen to it again:

https://youtu.be/5GqrrGR-_30

Sun Yaara:

The drama was fantastic and the song impressed the audience equally. The singer was Damia Farooq and she really made the song everyone’s favourite with her beautiful vocals. The video also complimented the lyrics and music. Here have a look:

https://youtu.be/rjXGQxZtghY

Baaghi:

This is hands down one of the best OSTs of recent times. The composition and vocals of this masterpiece were given by the talented Shuja Haider. It goes with the theme of the drama so well that only listening to it can make you aware what is coming ahead. Top notch music, best vocals, all in all, a brilliant track. Lyrics written by Sabir Zafar deserve an applause.

https://youtu.be/PJlnSVMSKDU

O Rungreza:

This is a song which you can listen to on repeat. Sahir Ali Bagga’s composition and voice made this a must-have for every playlist. Mohay apne hi rang main rang de nizam were the lines which Rahat Fateh Ali Khan also sang in this year’s Coke Studio but even they were not able to beat the melody of this OST. This song has colours, beauty and calmness along with the ability to make you dance and whirl with the music.

https://youtu.be/otryLKhAi5Y

So this year we got all kinds of OSTs from sad to ghazal like to chick. My personal favourite is that of O Rangreza. Sahir Ali Bagga really killed it in O Rangreza. The above list consists of all the popular and great OSTs of this year. Give them a shot if you have not listened to these and do share which one you liked or any other you think should be a part of this list. Your feedback is always important!

Yaar e Bewafa Episode 23 – Review!

Ohkay so, even though a few things in this episode made sense but a lot didn’t & were stretched beyond limit. I really think they should wrap things up now because ending this drama on a positive note is what’s left to be done so they better hurry up!

So, Fizza thought just the way she left on her own terms, she will barge into Zaid’s home & his life on her own terms too. Now when Fizza experienced everything she wanted, she realized she was incomplete without Zaid. Even though Fizza has been shown to be the wrong one right from the beginning, but now she had a valid point that why didn’t Zaid divorce her before getting married to Amna as that gave her a false hope & she wasn’t wrong in assuming that Zaid didn’t want to leave her!

Amna has always been too selfless to be true but I wish the writer had written some dialogues for her because after having a couple of conversations with Zaid, she lost her voice. Please don’t tell me that Amna will decide to walk away from Zaid’s life to give Fizza back which isn’t hers anymore!

I must say out of all things, what I found the most unconvincing one was Zaid’s cluelessness? I mean he didn’t even had to go through the hassle of telling Fizza the truth about his & Amna’s relationship as she found that out herself, so the least he could do was take a stand & show Fizza her right place? I don’t understand when Zaid made up his mind & brought Amna back then why didn’t he tell Fizza to leave or why didn’t he come to a decision regarding his relation with Fizza because even he can’t deny that he is still married to her.

While seeing Fizza torturing Amna with her taunts, I was wondering where was Zaid? Yes, he must have been at work but still, Zaid knows Fizza too well to know what she must be putting Amna through so in stead of relying on Amna & waiting for her approval, Zaid should have taken matters in his hand & should have come to a conclusion.

Even though this drama has been a decent journey, but now they really should wrap things up & I don’t want Fizza to be doing the heavy lifting by walking away on her own after feeling pity & having mercy on Zaid & Amna, I want Zaid to take a decision like a man & call spade a spade. He has already relied on the ladies, time for him to take charge of the situation & paas a verdict ASAP! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yaar e Bewafa.

Baaghi Episode 20 Review – The End Justifies The Means???

Just like every other episode of Baaghi the viewers were not only shown what a perfect daughter and sister Kanwal was but different characters in the play kept on reasserting this notion repeatedly. So, I hope everyone out there watching this show has learned the lesson we were taught in this episode – daughters like Kanwal are a blessing – this would mean that all those women out there who are using unethical means to help their families financially are heroes about whom books should be written and a biopic should be dedicated to each one of them! However those daughters of the soil like Marium Mukhtiar for instance do not deserve anything more than a telefilm and there are so many more who actually are role models and did a great deal and I hope that some day our drama makers will be making biopic about them too! Once again, Kanwal’s sole concern was her father and in order to make Kanwal look like a perfect human being everyone else around her was yet again transformed into either a hypocrite or a manipulator!

The fact that this story doesn’t have substance is also apparent from the way this drama is being promoted. For the longest time Osman Khalid Butt’s entry was used as a “bait” and this time around Qandeel Baloch’s controversial dance video was used as a way to attract the viewers. The developments in the story have hardly been used to attract the viewers so that they would tune into the show. Irfan Khoosat, Saba Faisal and Nadia Afghan’s performances were remarkable in this episode. Saba Qamar is a little too casual now and her character is predictable and boring. Shehryar was shown worrying sick about Kanwal in every single scene and although he feels attracted towards Kanwal but he is confused for obvious reasons. Kanwal likes him but she has more important things in life to worry about which is probably the reason why she has completely forgotten about her son as well!!

Baaghi Episode 20 Review - The End Justifies The Means???

Once again this episode showed that Kanwal was forced into doing something she didn’t agree with and she is more than willing to do whatever she needs to do to earn money because apparently there is nothing wrong with it as long as she is doing all of it to help her parents! All of a sudden Kanwal’s actions have been justified more than before and Kanwal isn’t even enjoying the “celebrity status” and the money she is getting as a result! As far as I remember, the writer said that there was going to be a lesson in this drama and they were not going to glorify Qandeel Baloch in any way but so far there are no lessons and they are most certainly glorifying Qandeel Baloch as well.

All I can say is that I have seen much better dramas which covered the problems girls who support their families face, Thakan was one such drama in which Saba Qamar played the lead. It had a much better storyline, the characters were far more appealing and the producers didn’t use any shortcuts to get ratings. Also, Saba Qamar has played more solid roles in her career, her role as Kanwal Baloch is surely not the highlight of her career! Even though I never had huge expectations from this drama but even then it has been a terrible disappointment in more ways than one.
