Jago Pakistan Jago – Can It Get Any Worse?

Whenever the viewers think that Pakistani morning shows can not stoop low any further because they have already reached that line, they surprise us by touching the new lows, by pushing the new boundaries and by exploring the new horizons with even more atrociousness never seen before! Even though most of the sensible viewers have absolutely no expectations from these shows but they continue to employ cheap tactics to get ratings which are even devoid of logic.

It is a fact that the morning shows which revolve around the subject of makeup and beauty get a lot of ratings that is why the channels keep on conducting more shows which are filled with such content. The morning shows these days focus on teaching makeup by inviting different makeup artists as well as holding makeup competitions where they give a platform to local makeup artists so that they can showcase their talent, which is a great initiative but the way these shows are carried out leaves one speechless! It makes one wonder who are these people who come up with these bizarre and illogical ideas and you can’t help but question the intelligence of all those people who go along with them because they are getting paid for doing just that!

One such competition is being held by Hum TV’s morning show Jago Pakistan Jago named ‘Mera Makeup Hai Kamal’ this week and to put in simple words, every single thing about that competition is wrong; be it the judges or the challenges that are being given to the makeup artists or the way they are being treated by everyone in general. This isn’t the first time that the team behind this show has come up with the most ridiculous format and the people involved in executing it have done whatever they could to make it even worse! The show in general is always chaotic but this time around because of the way they acted throughout it was difficult to believe that all these women involved were educated working women with tons of exposure.

Jago Pakistan Jago - Can It Get Any Worse?

The judges happened to be Amber Khan and Farida Shabbir and let’s just say that they forgot they had to ‘act’ like a judge because they were being way too comfortable in their ‘phappay kutni’ mode. A few days back, Amber’s video clip went viral when the show went live on Facebook during one of its commercial break and we thought she got exposed for being rude but after watching yesterday’s episode, she was still the same even when there was no commercial break. The way Amber was treating these contestants with her high and mighty attitude made her look arrogant and condescending, which is a surprise because she usually boasts about how miserably polite she is. A couple of years ago in one of the morning shows, Farida Shabbir had to do a bridal makeover as well and her makeup screamed ‘face-ruined-by-mohallay-wali-makeup-aunty’, so it was a bit rich seeing her acting as if she knew everything about makeup because girl, you’re mistaken. Amber and Farida literally screamed and misbehaved with the contestants and we are scratching our heads to understand what mode of mentoring is this?

Sanam Jung introduced the contestants in such a manner that it seemed like this show was helping these contestants out in fulfilling their dreams. Although the price money wasn’t a large sum of amount but somehow the host did whatever she could to convince the viewers that winning this competition would change things around for these make-up artists who didn’t all come from affluent backgrounds and needed the money for educating their children or expanding their businesses. Unfortunately, it did look like that was the reason why these rich so-called educated women who were running the show thought they had the right to treat these women in the most disrespectful manner.

The challenge that was given to the makeup artists in yesterday’s episode was wrong on so many levels. Fair models were invited and then the contestants were told to use a dark base in order to show that wheatish/dusky girls can make beautiful brides too. This has to be the most insane way to elaborate their point which they were trying to make that dark girls are beautiful too because none of the model had wheatish/dusky complexion and we really don’t understand why they didn’t bring in the models which fall into that category? They have million times shown how wheatish girls can achieve lighter skin tone so now when they had to prove a point, it was ridiculous that they chose fair skinned models because it just didn’t make any sense and most importantly defied the purpose! Had the host and the judges also carried the look they wanted the make-up artists to give these models, one could think that they were actually convinced that this was a grand idea! While their own makeovers were right on point, the models were tested in the worst way possible by carrying a look which wasn’t breaking any stereotypes but mocked them.

Sanam Jung has time and again mentioned that she is not good at makeup and lacks basic knowledge about it, so it was shocking to see her forgetting her role as a host because even she turned into a judge who was rudely instructing the contestants to do what was being demanded. Just like always, Sanam Jung let her producers and director dictate to her and every time someone shouted in her ear that one of the artists were breaking the rules her reaction was like that of a government school’s headmaster who scolds his students for coming late.

Jago Pakistan Jago - Can It Get Any Worse?

Makeup is a form of art, it is a creative process which is done in a relaxing environment but Sanam, Amber and Farida turned it into a sabzi mandi where literally harassed the contestants for not following their instructions. Amber and Farida should have been tied to the judges’ seat with harnesses because they forgot that this was not some Master class that was going on where they could mentally torture their students, it was a competition and they should have let the contestants do makeup in a very relaxed manner, but oh well, why are we expecting these ladies to understand the basics of something creative!?! As if this was not enough, they also put Mehndi on one hand of the make-up artists so that the would have to do makeup using one hand only? Let’s just ask, how many times have Amber, Farida or Sanam gotten their makeup done by someone who used only one hand? Is this a makeup competition or a boot camp?

The background music was exactly what they used back in the day when they conducted those horror shows based on Jinnat, so it was saddening to see them putting a grave subject like Jinnat and Makeup on the same pedestal. In times like these where they get an immediate feedback on their shows through social media, it is hard to believe that our morning show hosts and their teams choose not to improve themselves and continue to invite such people who are in dire need of learning basics like manners and politeness.

We thought that we had seen it all when we saw Aamir Liaquat shoving a mango in his guest’s mouth but our show hosts keep on coming up with new ways to insult and degrade their guests. It is almost as if they feel that if their guest is not a celebrity, they do not need to treat them with dignity. It is also sad watching these guests putting up with all this nonsense right till the end, we would love to see these people walking out of such live shows or reacting or protesting to the torture they are put through because that is the only way people like Sanam Jung, Amber Khan and Farida Shabbir will stop acting like they are superior creatures who can treat anyone any way they want. Also, next time they want to ‘celebrate’ dark complexion they should do so by inviting dark-skinned models, that should serve the purpose!

If you haven’t watched the show, please do watch the clips of the show which we have added in this article and share your thoughts about them.

Iqra Aziz Is Not Taking Any Judgments On Her Hair!

Iqra Aziz is really making her name right now in the industry by giving back to back hits. The young actress has made a mark in a relatively short time and is very active on social media. With media industry and the advent of social media, scrutiny is a must which all actors and actresses have to face these days, a thousand times more than old times. Iqra recently cut short her hair and she faced a lot of criticism on it. The actress has something to say about it. Here listen to her as she beautifully explained that the length of her hair is not something that defines her worth as an actress:

A good message indeed! What are your thoughts on people criticizing others for anything regarding their looks? Share in the comments section!

Aangan Episode 19 Review – Entertaining!

Ohkay so, this was yet another enjoyable episode of Aangan. I loved how they got over with the wedding & then started focusing on all the customs & norms that are taken care of once the wedding function takes place!

Naashta was the prime focus of this episode & rightfully so because this is one such aspect which is quite emphasized upon at larki wala’s house. I loved how Hajra woke up early & started preparing for the stuff that she had to take to Zoya’s place while also making sure that everyone at home also gets fed the breakfast.

Wedding happened smoothly but again Allauddin jumped in & made sure he won the argument when it came to deciding Zoya’s haq meher. I am sure he didn’t do it for Zoya sake but only to show his position in this family but it was nice to see Faseeha agreeing to his demand without saying anything, it showed that Aqdas’s family was wholeheartedly & respectfully welcoming Zoya in their family. Faseeha’s in laws continued to be unreasonable & they didn’t even mind the fact that Zoya was a newly wedded bride who came to Aqdas’s house for the first time. Zoya was right, since she is used to this chaos, she felt at home & it was sweet how she even admitted it so honestly in front of Aqdas.

Well, it seems Zahid & Asim are cooking something but I am sure once the secret will be revealed, it won’t be too shocking, but I am interested to know what they are upto, any guesses guys? Because honestly, I am blank & can’t really wrap my head around what they both must be taking care of.

Laila & Zaitoon’s conversation about Bilqees Kainchi was quite funny. Laila actually wanted to know more about her equation with Abba Jee & it was so sweet how Zaitoon honestly shared every little detail with Laila.

So it seems that Hajra wants Sadaan to get married to Aqdas’s sister. Hajra really is not budging when it comes to accepting Sadaan’s choice. Not sure what Sadaan will have to do in order to convince his mother.

Anila & Allu’s conversation about Naashta was quite funny. Even after so many years, it is amazing how Allauddin remembers every little detail of his wedding & especially all that stuff which he can use to remind Anila of how her family members fell short of their responsibility. I must say I love Hajra for her honesty & bluntness, even though she absorbs so much but when she has to give it back, she just goes for it. Anila spoke so highly of how she is better than so many ‘nands’ out there but Hajra didn’t let her have any misapprehensions & immediately reminded her of how lucky Anila was for having a ‘bhabhi’ like her. Spot on!

I enjoyed this episode & I liked how things were all over the place, it was a perfect depiction of how everyone unwinds after a family wedding is over. Please share your thoughts.

Haalim Episode 11 – Review

Wah! Is the perfect description for this episode. Maza aagya sach main.. Number 11 “ Waqt Kay Us paar”…..who would have imagined all the events to turn out this way. Let’s get started Haalims..The episode again began with a weird dream of Taaliya where she is in her era that is the new Malaysia and that basket. I couldn’t connect anything from her dream maybe something from her ex-husband, her wedding stuff or something. It needs a lot of brainstorming but I am more interested in the first dream to be materialized.

I really want to talk about our favourite the ideal person in this novel Wan Fateh Ramzel first because there are some shocking revelations here.( Eyes popping out)

Fateh Ramzel

The most unexpected response from Fateh Ramzel just marked this episode for me.He finally said it yes he did and guess what’s that? He needs Taliyah and kudos to Taliyah’s confidence that she had in her vision that one day this” Mr. Needs Nobody” will need her. The jail part where he had to chose between his life and Taliyah he clearly chose the later it was also quite surprising for me but cute.

I must give credit to the political nature of Fateh Ramzel that even in front of Taliyah’s Father he had the guts to put his point first and that’s the true nature of this inspiring man.

Honestly, it tore me when I read that he was physically tortured ..Ouch
Aryana’s appearance and that potion drinking event was full of suspense but I have something to ask as well wait till the end of review.

Shehzadi Tasha

We move next to our Shehzadi Tasha who had some really amazing feasts and courageous steps to her credit that must be highlighted. The first one was the island, apart from being the most courageous moves taken by her I was repeatedly reminded about Fateh Ramzel’s prediction about Taliyah’s dismissal. She is smart and yes she is right wo apne liye akeli hi kaafi hai. In that Island everything marked the intelligence of Taliyah except that choari parts where she couldn’t resist and our Shareef Adam scolded her Lol.

The most emotional part for me was Taliyah’s come back from the Island and her care towards Fateh Ramzel…The girl is head over heels in love. Fateh Ramzel’s questions of what she will do after he will leave her hurt her but she courageously hid the pain and smiled. Such a brave girl! Taliyah’s steps to bring all the Slaves to pressurize her father were impressive and that was a smart move as u say in politics.

Shareef Adam

Adored his care for Taliyah in the island and of course his concern because he always thought Taliyah will go back alone and he will be stuck forever..Lol but deep inside he trusts Taliyah and that was amazingly put forth when he lets her go back. Pyaara insan Adam!

Loved the message of always having a pen and paper with you because after all he is a moarikh he must have it but the Islamic history portrayed made the whole scene much more meaningful and beautiful. So guys write if you can and if you don’t you truly are wasting Allah’s gift.

I didn’t know Adam was soft hearted to a limit that he wouldn’t kill the beast who was ready to kill them. Apart from his soft heart it was his training that taught him never to hurt them but to free them is the best option to get rid of their danger. Great message of humanity !

Now let’s talk about the most important event of this episode that potion part…
The suspense it created left me thinking even when ALL of them safely reached to their era.

The words of Fateh that Adam and Taaliya always put him first because they always thought he is above them.( Fan fever)

The appearance of Aryana and her sadness.

All these words kept the reader anxious as we all knew Taliyah’s father wouldn’t have left them without taking something back.ThankGod that Shart was also revealed in this episode otherwise the whole month would have been so anxious for us.

So Our Beloved Fateh Drank that Liquid because he thought that it was the best option at that moment but I don’t think so. Here is why

1- Fateh thought of drinking the liquid because he had nothing to lose. He was the way he was a Leader the only thing which changed for him was his feelings for Taliyah and he compromised on that.Fateh thought of not letting Taliyah drink this because if she did she would forget all the lessons and live the same life but even When Fateh drank this Taliyah’s father was satisfied it means there is something he knows that Fateh didn’t. For me if Taliyah would have drank this she would forget everything and she would have again chased that treasure and boom back to her father so in this case her father would have let Taliyah drank it But he chose Fateh and the reason was Taliyah’s lust for power will bring her back so there should be no one stopping her from coming back. But I think even if she had drank it she would have gone back. Why Fateh? Can anyone explain.

2- The time when Fateh revealed everything to Adam showed that he wants Taliyah to stay with her But he took a promise from her to never go back even for him.

3- Even Fateh knew that Adam loves Taliyah still he wants her. Do u think its selfish of him?

4- Do u think after reading that email Taliyah would go back for Fateh Ramzel?

5- After knowing that his heart has the same old hateful feelings for her would she forget all the moments she lived with him?

Or Taliyah’s father knew that for Fateh Ramzel She would come back because he knew Fateh used to say bad things about Taliyah ( A chor) yet he protected her ? just a thought

Last question what is that Aakhri samndari safar of Taliyah…Was it a truth?

Can’t wait for the new episode. I hope you all enjoyed the episode and the review as well.
Keep me in your prayers.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 19 Review – Meaningful & Deep

Just like every other episode of Dar Si Jati Hei Sila this one too was deep and meaningful. There are no trivial conversations in this drama at all, every single conversation serves a bigger purpose and has a hidden meaning. The contrast between the old and new generation was also highlighted in this episode apart from the mindset behind giving boys preferential treatment. Although treating boys like superior beings is a normal occurrence in our society but most often this fact is highlighted in dramas through the birth of girls and the problems the mother faces because of it. Dar Si Jati Hei Sila on the other hand points out the mindset behind such thinking with utmost clarity. This drama also raises some serious, intelligent and articulate questions about these norms in our society. While Joi, who isn’t even related to anyone in Noor Manzil, gets to enjoy all the luxuries of life and more importantly gets acceptance but Sadia and Sila are constantly belittled and are treated like they are not good enough because they are women! The most ironic part of this entire situation is that a woman is at the helm of affairs in Noor Manzil yet she cannot see past her mu bola bhai perhaps because she doesn’t have a son or brother to make her feel special or even complete!

This episode opened with Zaini giving Joi a piece of her mind and it was gratifying watching her confront him. Joi’s reaction showed just how weak he actually was and he was just as afraid of being confronted as Sadia. All the questions that Hatim asked today were innocent yet unintentionally he highlighted the shallowness of the entire concept that boys were superior to girls. I love how the writer has penned down the story since most of the situations are ironic in a really meaningful way. The only boy in the house who is treated like royalty never felt loved or wanted because his own mother made him feel unwanted right from the time he was born. Many of the conversations tonight drew attention to the fact that Sadia never even attended to Hatim when he was born. She wanted to terminate her pregnancy but it wasn’t meant to be, after hearing all this tonight Hatim’s character is more understandable than ever. There is a good reason why he is constantly looking for acceptance even though his father and rest of the family think highly of him. Also, it is ironic that Hatim isn’t even Sikandar’s son yet he is the only reason why Sikandar keeps on coming back to Noor Manzil! Hatim and Sila’s scene yet again were the highlight of this episode. The performances, dialogues, situations and direction couldn’t have been better.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila Episode 19 Review - Meaningful & Deep

Nadia’s character has been used by the writer to show a different perspective to everything. Although Zaini and Raheel too show a viewpoint that is poles apart from that of everyone else in the family but the difference between them and Nadia is that Nadia is not afraid to speak her mind. Also, since Nadia was not raised in Noor Manzil therefore she observes everything more than others. Sadia and Joi’s relationship was never noticed by anyone other than Sila but now Nadia can see that there is something going on between these two. Similarly, unlike others she has Joi wrapped around her little finger because she does not see him through Bari Aapa’s eyes the way Sadia and Sila do! She sees him for who he is – a lazy good for nothing man! Nadia’s reaction when she found out that she was pregnant was comical but just like every other situation in this drama it also raised some important points.

Zaini and Raheel’s scenes are always the best part of every episode. Zaini’s dialogues tonight about how Sila felt, reflected the thinking of every boy and girl out there who has ever been harassed. These dialogues were written beautifully and Aamna Malick’s performance once again was brilliant.

Dar Si Jati Hei Sila continues to impress; the script, the performances and the direction never fails to impress. I am waiting for the time when Sadia will finally take a stand for her daughter or when Sila will learn to be more brave because that is when things will start to change for the better. Will Hatim ever find out the truth? Waiting to find out!

Tabeer Episode 4 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode of Tabeer took the story forward but the overall pace of the drama is a bit in the slower side because there are not many characters or tracks which can make this drama a bit happening, but overall, it still is a decent watch!

Ajju’s character got a little detailed introduction in this episode. Ajju is an opportunist who puts himself before anyone else. Ajju is quite analytical when it comes to making money that is why he keeps on resorting to short cuts to double what he has. Ajju obviously has his sights on Tabeer but he is not doing anything for now which might make his intentions a bit more obvious!

Tabeer thought she had lost Daadi but fortunately, she just had a fever. Daadi & Tabeer’s relationship is sweet. It is also nice to see Ajju’s sister in law helping Tabeer & Daadi in the hour of need, whereas she is not aware of the fact that Ajju & his brother have decided to stay at Daadi’s house from now on!

I find Fawad’s mother’s obsession with her son & those tantrums that she throws when he is unable to give her some attention quite unreasonable & funny. Even though it was sweet that she wanted to surprise her grown up son on his birthday, it was hard to digest that she conveniently ignored that Zarnish was in hospital & probably on her death bed. No matter how unreasonable a person must be, I am sure no one can ignore someone who is terminally ill.

Zarnish arranged a little surprise for Fawad & that was the last time they both made a little memory together. Zarnish passed away after having a baby & on the other hand Tabeer had a baby boy too. Saniya is heart broken because of Fawad & she still is in love with him, because of which she sent him a bouquet on his birthday. Not sure what role she will play in Fawad’s life now. Let’s see how the story will unfold from now on. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Tabeer.

Khudgarz Episode 21 Review – Heart-breaking!

I am sure every single viewer must have watched this episode of Khudgarz with teary eyes because not only all the emotions were powerfully portrayed but also because everyone formed such a deep connection with Junaid’s character that his death left us all broken hearted!

Munawwar had a lot to say to Junaid but the sad part was, he was not going to listen to him the way he used to, all his life. Munawwar was left with nothing but regrets & that is what actually happens, when someone you love leaves & when you don’t get a chance to share what you have in your heart. Junaid also left in such circumstances that everyone is left with regrets for the rest of their lives as they know that they wronged him, except Aairah!

Hassan poured his heart out to Omar & even though Omar told him to, Hassan knew he had no courage to face his family, especially Junaid. All the things that Hassan said regarding everything that Junaid used to do for him was so realistic, this is how usually everyone remembers their dear ones when they pass away.

Unfortunately, because Hassan has left such a bad impression on everyone, both Raheel & Abeer were forced to misunderstand him because they felt he was being egoistic even after finding out about Junaid’s death. Abeer & Raheel have seen Hassan at his worst & because they have no idea that that he has changed, they both still believed that Hassan didn’t care much about Junaid or his parents to come see them in such a dark.time.

Abeer’s role during such a tough phase in Aairah’s life is praise worthy. It was also quite good to see Salma having Abeer by her side because she shared what was in her heart with Abeer, otherwise Salma didn’t have anyone who would listen to her. Abeer tried to give Aairah some courage & support but broke down because she couldn’t see her friend suffering. Abeer exactly knew that Aairah could harm herself & in order to fight her depression, she could once again resort to sleeping pills but sadly, Salma didn’t allow Abeer to take Aairah with her which would’ve been so much better for Aairah’s mental health. Rabeea’s reaction after seeing Junaid’s daughter was heart breaking too. So many people were affected by his death, which shows how well & truly loved he was but sadly, Munawwar & Hassan wronged him & before they could apologize, he left!

Well, the lawyer told Munawwar which left him embarrassed. Munawwar taunted Junaid for the money he spent on him but now he got to know that Junaid even after his death paid him back for all that he had done for him. Junaid gave Munawwar back everything that he spent on him & he left this world having a clean slate without owing anything to anyone!

This episode was so so so heart breaking & the spot on direction took every emotion a notch higher too. Amina Sheikh, Sami Khan, Ghulam Mohhiuddin & Mansha Pasha acted phenomenally in this episode. Uf it was so emotional, still can’t get over it. The discussion that the readers had under previous episode’s review showed how deeply this drama, its story & its characters has affected everyone. It is commendable that the team of this drama succeeded in portraying reality in such a convincing manner that we all were reminded of our loved ones who are no more with us! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Khudgarz.

“If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

While Indian government has banned Pakistani artists from working in the Indian film industry, composer Vipin Patwa, who has worked with the Pakistani singers such as Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, says music has become global and talent is beyond nationality.

When asked what makes him look for talent in Pakistan instead of India, Patwa replied,

“We are living in 2018 and music has become global. Moreover, talent is beyond nationality. And let’s not forget that be it music, story or casting of a film, all decisions are taken collectively by a number of people and not a single person.

"If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

When asked whether it was a good decision to get Aslam and Bashir on board, especially after the producer of the film Daas Dev said that Aslam had refused to promote the song Sehmi Hai Dhadkan?

The composer stated,

“Aslam was taken on board because his voice matched the character of the song. The decision was taken way before the controversy started. It’s a coincidence that this controversy has started at the time of my music launch. Which artist wouldn’t want to promote his work? If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.”

"If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

When questioned if there were any talks to remove their songs from the film, Patwa explained,

“Removing an artist’s song merely on the basis of some controversy is the worst and most disrespectful thing. It takes a lot of effort and pain to create a song. I had specially flown to Dubai just to record the song.”

"If Aslam has taken this decision, there must be some reason behind it.” Vipin Patwa

Patwa feels that he has always worked as a bridge between the two nations.

He shared,

“If my small efforts can bring two nations together, I would love to be a part of such projects. Moreover, I grew up listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan saab and Mehdi Hasan saab. Can you ask people to stop listening to their songs? You can’t because music is beyond boundaries,”

Adding further, Swan said that he would go out to the streets in the evening to help homeless people and those experiences completely changed his life.

He further wrote,

“People do not have to suffer as they do. If only more of us helped each other, if only we lived by our love, we could change the whole world and find our riches within.”

Khamoshi Episode 23 Review-Desi Friend-zoning?

0

So the episode opened with a similar sequence we saw in Humsafar. Our beautiful Arsala was enjoying the rain shower while the handsome Shahram was standing there and enjoying seeing Arsala have a good time. Then yes our girl asked him to sense the feels of Baarish which he did like a good boy. Here I want to write it in capital letters: ARSALA SMILED THE SHARMEELI WALI SMILE AT HIM! And I like many of the innocent viewers thought ke Hassi Toh Phassi (in this particular case of course). But no, she wants Shahram (and us) to suffer even more. Arsala is clearly giving out signals that she wants to be with Shahram and then she starts blaming him like he is trying to kill her or something. Her concern regarding her family is acceptable as per the story but a girl like Arsala who never even blamed Naima for what she did is blaming Shahram for no reason.

Khamoshi Episode 23 Review-Desi Friend-zoning?

Bee Jaan is meddling again in both of the leads lives and wants to see them together. And to make her happy Arsala and Shahram are pretending to be hone wale dulha dulhan which is absurd. She is Bee Jaan and not a 3 year old whom they are trying to fool. Arsala at least should come up with her true feelings in front of Bee Jaan so she could help her with the whole situation. But no they will play make-believe for 3 or 4 episodes because why not?

Naima and Shehnaz’s situation is incomprehensible at this point. Arsala does not come home anymore. She sends money on time and still they keep blaming her for whatever turmoil Naima is facing in her marriage. Maybe the dialogue writer ran out of more lines and consequently Naima is stuck with Main tum se bohat mohabbat karti hoon and Maine humare liye bohat se khawab dekhay thay.

With the last episode being a good progress, I was hoping to see the story move forward. They should have made Arsala come to terms with her feelings for Shahram so they could go for the whole family fiasco which would follow. Khamoshi has been a big victim of dragging storyline. Let’s hope the next episode will solve the Zubiya plot and Arsala will finally admit that she likes that bechara khawar hota hua larka too and maybe stop friend-zoning or Bee Jaan-zoning him!

Shayyad Episode 19 Review – Important Developments!

This episode had plenty of important developments to its credit and quite unexpectedly this time around Mahpara’s track was much more poignant than that of Hani or even Saad! While Hani and Saad’s love story was always the centre of attention but tonight everything that Saad did for his phupo, with the help of Tania, was the highlight of the show. This latest development once again highlighted the sensitive and caring nature of Saad’s character which is also the reason why he leaned towards Hani in the first place. While it was somewhat frustrating watching Hani suffer, Tania’s reaction to the whole situation and the turn phupo’s track took was extremely gratifying. The story continues to be convincing, engaging and unpredictable but even in this episode the flashback scenes were unnecessary and didn’t go well with the situations at all. Apart from that, Sadia Khan’s perfect eye make-up and hairdo stood out like a sore thumb.

For the first time tonight Salar opened up about his past and the viewers found out why it wasn’t just his father whom he hated but he despised his mother as well. He blamed his mother for not taking a stand and in a really subtle manner the writer aptly put forward a really important message without holding the wife/mother responsible entirely. The fact that Salar’s mother also told her side of the story and eventually decided to call Hani’s family was the most pleasant aspect of all these developments because in a neutral manner, the viewers were shown both sides of the story. Although Salar’s mother never had the courage or resources to walk out of the abusive relationship with her husband but she did whatever she could do to help Hani. Her helplessness made perfect sense as well since Salar is the kind of person who wouldn’t think twice before hitting his own mother. Nauman Ijaz’s performance was brilliant in this episode, he completely owns this role just like every other character he has played till date. Sadia Khan’s acting was right on point in this episode but her outlook didn’t go well with the situation Hani was in.

Shayyad Episode 19 Review - Important Developments!

Tania’s decision to call off the marriage and that of proposing Mahpara on her dad’s behalf was completely in line with her character. She was always shown as a confident and practical woman therefore everything she did tonight was logical as well as convincing. She was heart broken and upset but instead of getting angry, she decided to go away quietly from Saad’s life. Her heart break however could have been covered in a much better manner if the timeline wasn’t so confusing in the past two episodes. Also, Kinza Razzaq’s heavy contouring and highlighting didn’t compliment her cute face and was distracting. If it wasn’t for all these glitches this entire development would have been far more impactful. Having said that the connection with all the characters is such that I always find myself feeling for them mainly because of the way they have been etched-out and the manner in which the story is being taken forward.

Mahpara’s conversation with Saad was one of the best scenes of this episode because it showed just how far these characters had come in all these years. Apart from this, some of the dialogues tonight covering Saad’s agony were beautiful and even Salar’s dialogues were written intelligently – the way his entire story was summed up in a couple of scenes was brilliant. The journeys of all the characters have been shown credibly throughout and it seems like their tracks will be winded up nicely too. Mahpara’s ending gave hope that Hani and Saad’s track might have a happy ending too. The preview of the next episode however suggested something entirely different. It is impossible to predict what turn the story will take from here and how it will conclude.

Noor ul Ain Episode 5 Review – Manipulation!

Ohkay so, this episode covered the predicament of two people in love, who come from very different worlds. It was interesting to see how Noor was getting manipulated just so easily, that too by the person she trusts the most!

Noor might be mature for her age & pretty straight forward, but she doesn’t have the eye to see through someone’s intentions. Just because Noor is clean hearted & innocent, she thinks everyone around her has her best interest at their heart, which unfortunately is not true. Noor sees people how she wants to  that is why despite clear cut agitation & detest of both Sofie & her mother, Noor doesn’t even think for a second that there must be something wrong with Ghazala. It is sad that because Noor trusts Ghazala so much, she is easily getting manipulated & without even thinking for a second, she is following her lead!

Things could’ve been sorted out between Khizar & Noor in a very different manner if Noor hadn’t listened to Ghazala & had done what she asked her to. Noor’s demand of an apology from Khizar’s mother was basically what drifted them apart & this was something that Ghazala knew because after meeting Khizar’s mother, she understood that she was not someone who was going to budge that too after the way she was also insulted at Noor’s place!

Noor at least has found a friend in the form of her colleague who actually feels for her & that is why she speaks sensibly but because what she says contradicts the teachings of Ghazala, Noor finds it hard to go by what her friend tells her. It didn’t take a moment for Noor’s friend to realize that Ghazala was being unreasonable but since Noor is so used to believing Ghazala & trusting her, she didn’t see anything wrong with it even after her friend told her so!

Khizar’s mother obviously said no to meeting Noor’s family once again & it has taken a toll on Khizar because of which he is not in a clear head space. Khizar’s arguement with Mona basically depicted how bitter he was feeling after whatever happened. Noor obviously told Khizar that things couldn’t work out between them & Khizar respected her opinion because even he knows that Noor is not someone who would look for an easy way out & when she has said decided something, she will stick to it!

Ghazala obviously is making sure that Noor stays puzzled that is why she misquoted her in front of her mother & later painted a completely different picture in front of Noor as well. I am not sure if Noor will ever be able to take a decision with her own sensibility & if she will stop letting Ghazala control her.

Overall, this episode was decent but a bit on the slower side. For a change it was good to see Noor’s mother being considerate about Noor’s feelings. This drama doesn’t disappoint but it doesn’t offer something out of the box either. It is a fact that this drama is nothing extraordinary which the viewers expected from such a dream team, but it still is a good enough option to tune to. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Noor ul Ain.

Zun Mureed Episode 1 & 2 Review – Well-Executed

Writer: Amna Mufti
Director: Ahmed Kamran
Produced by: Moomal Entertainment
Schedule: Every Friday at 8pm on HUM

The first two episodes of Zun Mureed laid down solid foundations for whatever is going to happen in the upcoming weeks. The introduction to the characters was detailed as well as clear and both these episodes were fast paced. In both these episodes, the writer and the director’s approach was focused and all the scenes were well-put-together. Although I had my reservations about Nadia Khan since her performance in Aisi Hei Tanhai leaves a lot to be desired but so far her acting has been up to the mark. Omair Rana, Hina Bayat, Shamim Hilali, Aisha Gul, Kashif Mehmood and Khalid Anum always perform well therefore it didn’t come as a surprise at all that they fit perfectly in the roles assigned to them. The performances were natural, the direction was on point and the editing was perfect. I have to admit that the only reason I tuned into this show was because it promised to cover the issue of domestic abuse from a legal perspective and also because it has been written by Amna Mufti which guarantees that the script will be well-researched and meaningful.

Zun Mureed Episode 1 & 2 Review - Well-Executed

The first scene of the opening episode was one of my favorite scenes from both these episodes since it covered a great deal. This scene showed how Tabbasum (Nadia Khan) was struggling alone while her husband Sajjad (Omair Rana) and Bi Jaan’s (Shamim Hilali) son focused entirely on the cricket match. This scene clearly suggested that Bi Jaan was Tabbasum’s responsibility alone although Mariam Apa (Hina Bayat), Bi Jaan’s daughter, claimed to love her mother more than anyone else but there were a lot of times when she wasn’t half as patient as Tabbasum with her mother. The thing I liked about the characters the most was that they were nuanced, while Tabbasum was shown as someone who had a good heart and was dedicated but there were plenty of times when she was shown struggling with her situation. The scenes covering her character were realistic and showed how difficult it was for her to cope with everything yet she didn’t complain because she felt it was her duty to work and to look after the house. Also, while there were times when it seemed like Sajjad couldn’t care less how Tabbasum was coping there were also plenty of scenes in which he acknowledged and appreciated her efforts. The reference to Tabbasum’s share in her late parents assets however suggested that Sajjad is the kind of man who wouldn’t mind living off his wife’s money.

Bi Jaan is an educated woman yet she has a typical mindset. Even after everything Tabbasum did for Bi Jaan, she didn’t get any acknowledgement, something which was shown creatively through the scene in which Bi Jaan writes Mariam and Sajjad’s name alone. Also, just like any other controlling mother in law, Bi Jaan cannot see her son spending quality time with his wife and terms him as zun mureed, even though her own son in law was shown doing exactly what his wife expected from him.

Zun Mureed Episode 1 & 2 Review - Well-Executed

The first episode in particular also showed how Fari, Tabbasum’s sister, was treated by her bhabhi and how things were in their brother’s (Khalid Mehmood) house. The news about Women Protection Bill got different kind of reactions from both these houses and Tabbasum in particular kept on asserting that such laws were made for violent men in low income households. She couldn’t imagine at this point that her husband would some day turn into such a man.

Overall, these two episodes were engaging and executed flawlessly. Although these episodes didn’t have anything brand new to offer but they weren’t clichéd either. I felt an instant connection with all the characters because of the way they were introduced. The script has the kind of clarity that doesn’t leave any questions in your mind and the director has given this script the right kind of treatment.

How many of you watched these two episodes? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about them.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is back in the news and again for not paying taxes. Rahat has been accused time and time again for not paying taxes.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's Bank Account Frozen By FBR!

The Federal Board of Revenue FBR recovered two million rupees in terms of taxes from the legendary singer. Fbr also has seized his bank account over the non-payment of tax.

Rahat was also accused last year when he did not pay taxes of about three million rupees. Again he had to pay about 3.2 million rupees as tax which he failed to do so and it resulted in cessation of his account.

Not paying taxes is a dilemma of our country. Seeing artists who people love fail to set an example in this regard i sad!

Ever since Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood of Strings bid farewell to Coke Studio after wrapping up the tenth season rumors of Noori producing the next season have been resurfacing over social media.

Noori’s manager denied the rumors previously by saying,

“The rumours are false. Noor and Hamza are not involved in producing Coke Studio 11 as of yet,”

Pukaar Episode 5 Review – Tragic!

Ohkay so, this episode of Pukaar was quite depressing which means the emotions were conveyed perfectly. This entire drama week for me was so heavy, first Aairah’s husband died in Khudgarz, then Tabeer’s husband died in Tabeer & now Samra’s husband died in Pukaar, tauba, talk about monotony, anyways!

Well, Fahad couldn’t win the battle for his life & passed away. The news of his death was obviously tragic & shook every single person associated with him. Samra lost the love of her life, Tashfeen & her husband lost their only son. Samra’s parents obviously couldn’t see their only child suffering that too when she deems herself guilty.

The moment Fahad’s father saw Samra, he made sure to remind her that it was because of her that Fahad didn’t go to the village & now he was fighting for his life. Well, he passed away & first half of the episode was covered in the flashbacks. Samra’s father did try to make a point that because Sultan got Fahad involved in the politics, he directed undue attention towards his son, but then again, why would Sultan pay heed to what Samra’s father said because he was too busy holding Samra responsible for everything!

Well, looks like Fahad’s Daadi is going to take revenge from Samra because Fahad’s family unanimously thinks that Samra is the reason why Fahad died, therefore they will make sure to torture her because other than that, they had no reason to keep Samra at their house as it was way too evident that they weren’t sympathizing with Samra to begin with!

Samra’s parents tried their best to take her with them but Samra wanted to be left alone in Fahad’s house. Poor thing doesn’t know what she will be faced with!

Well, honestly speaking, I wish everyone’s makeup apart from Yumna had been a bit realistic because all the characters; Daadi, Tashfeen & Zamani looked too glamorous to be mourning the death of a family member. I must say Zamani is quite annoying, obviously she is doing what usually servants do to stay in the good books of their masters but then again, the actress playing her role & her overall get up is such an eyesore. I wish we get to see less of her in the upcoming episodes which seems highly unlikely but still we can hope for the best. Yumna Zaidi was spot on with her acting & she succeeded in conveying Samra’s pain. I must say the OST is really nice & it helped in conveying the overall sadness that everyone was going through after losing Fahad. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Pukaar.

Cheers,

Belapur Ki Dayan Episode 4 Review – Weekly Dose Of Horror!

Tonight’s episode was frightening, disturbing and engrossing; the mystery, suspense and horror element of this play so far is flawless which is why anyone who will have sleepless nights watching a horror show shouldn’t tune into it. Those people out there (like myself) who enjoy watching such shows should definitely give it a shot because this drama will give you your weekly dose of horror in the right proportion! The performances, direction, situations and the script overall has been up to the mark so far. The constant focus on the horror element of the drama makes it the kind of show which stays with you long after you are done watching it. The camerawork has been brilliant and the execution of the horror scenes has been impressive right from the first episode. Even someone who doesn’t get scared easily will feel every terrifying situation which is being shown.

The new characters in the drama have added to the mystery since not much has been revealed about them but the way these characters have been introduced suggests that each one of them have a story to tell. Tonight’s episode focused on Rameez and Alia since Tasha was in the hospital. Yet again the developments tonight showed that the “dayan” who was after this family will do anything it takes to harm all those people who try to make this house theirs. Since Aziz sahib’s mother too was seen in the previous episode therefore it seems like all those people who lived in that house once never really left this world the way people do once they die. While the women in the house are convinced that this house is possessed, the men continue to be in denial even though they too have been in situations which suggested that there was paranormal activity in the house. Aziz Sahib is the only person who knows what actually happened here when everyone was alive therefore he is the one who will ultimately reveal who the “dayan” is and why his mother continues to have a presence in the house.

Belapur Ki Dayan Episode 4 Review - Weekly Dose Of Horror!

The most frightening and well-executed scene in this episode was the one in which Alia calls Rameez and begs him to come home. This entire scenario gave me goose bumps and even when Rameez came back there was no way of knowing whether he really was the actual person or not! Osama Tahir’s performance tonight was brilliant as usual, he is a confident actor who never fails to impress. I am definitely looking forward to his future projects already.

I missed watching Sarah Khan in this episode since she has been performing exceptionally well and the last 3 episodes focused on her more than any other character. Am I the only one who is getting impatient already? I can’t wait to find out what role Irfan Khoosat’s character is playing in this entire situation and why is this house haunted. All the horror scenes tonight were impactful because they were written and executed brilliantly. I would highly recommend this show to all those viewers out there who like watching such shows since so far this is turning out to be one of the best horror shows which we have seen on our television screens since the plot and the execution is original as well as enticing.

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.

Sana Safinaz Accused Of Racism

Sana Safinaz came under the fire back in 2012 for it’s poor campaign choice and the famous brand has done it again. As some see the campaign as a representation of African culture other’s accuse the campaign for using black people as props and of culture appropriation.

Here’s what twitter had to say about the new Sana Safinaz spring collection,

One of the users said,

“#SanaSafinaz learned nothing from their infamous ‘coolie’ ad campaign a few years ago. Now they’re at it again appropriating African culture and using black people as props. Apparently #racism sells! @sanasafinazoff”

While another one called Pakistanis out for their deeply rooted racism,

“sana safinaz a large pakistani clothing brand using native africans and their culture as props. yall still want to tell me the deep rooted racism in pakistan is not there? try again”

https://twitter.com/sosunm/status/971535020056756225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftribune.com.pk%2Fstory%2F1654567%2F4-sana-safinaz-faces-backlash-racist-campaign%2F

Some users said the campaign was very disturbing,

“I am sorry am I missing something here with this campaign? Sanasafinaz using these people as an ornament to selling their over priced lawn?? Mind blown at why they would deem this acceptable to the slightest. #disturbingAF”

One of the users said she’d be boycotting the brand this year,

“#SanaSafinaz using African culture as subservient props for a shoot is exactly why I’m not buying their lawn this time! This isn’t the first time this brand decided to appropriate a group of people who are often referred as disadvantaged #BoycottSanaSafinaz @sanasafinazoff”

Many users thought the campaign exploited black people and reduced them to the status of accessories,

let’s talk about the regressive, racist, downright offensive sana safinaz shoot. it’s 2018 & they think it’s okay to use black figures as accessories and exploit black culture as a means to sell overpriced lawn?matlub koi sharam hoti hai k oi hayah hoti hai.”

Celebrities Celebrate Women’s Day 2018

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year. It commemorates the movement for women’s rights. March 8 was suggested by the 1910 International Socialist Woman’s Conference to become an “International Woman’s Day.” After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.

As the world celebrates women and vows to empower them so do our celebrities and this is what they had to say this women’s day.

“I want to make a film with Fawad Khan” Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

“Ban Pakistani Artists” movement first started in India around 2016. Shortly after the call for the ban, some Indian political outfits threatened Pakistani actors from entering the country and in retaliation Pakistani theatres pulled down Indian movies from their big screens.

The issue resurfaced last month when Union Minister Babul Supriyo said that Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s song Ishtehaar in the Bollywood film Welcome to New York must be dubbed by someone else. Supriyo also demanded a ban on Pakistani artistes in Bollywood.

During a panel discussion ‘Controlling creativity: Is censorship relevant?’ alongside veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal at the Ficci Frames 2018 The national award-winning filmmaker Shonali Bose said the calls of bans on talent should be stopped. She also said though she wishes to cast Fawad Khan in a film she can’t do so owing to a ban on Pakistani actors in the country.

"I want to make a film with Fawad Khan" Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

Responding to a question on how the constant restrictions from the Central Board of Film Certification is affecting the creativity and freedom of expression, Shonali said,

“Instead of taking action to protect the rights of women and project their image under the right light, they are restricting filmmakers from doing their work freely.”

She continued,

“Cinema should be free… For instance, Pakistani actors are not allowed to work in Indian films, and this decision is supported by Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association. What if I want to make a film with Fawad Khan?”

"I want to make a film with Fawad Khan" Says Indian Film Maker Shonali Bose

When the moderator of the panel mentioned that her comment might earn her the title of an “anti-national”, Bose replied,

“That is the problem with our country nowadays. I speak of friendship between two countries. I want to make a film with Fawad Khan and nobody will allow me to make the film; producer will not back the film because of the risk and fear that has been created around it,”

For a country that faces problems like poverty, over population and rape Indian government seems way too focused on banning films and artists. This blind hatred for art and expression of speech will only end up destroying what’s left of the already ruined relationship between our countries.

Aangan Episode 18 Review – Hilarious!

Ohkay so, like I always say, what an amazing episode of Aangan. Seriously, Kudos to Faiza Iftikhar & the entire team for painting such a realistic & perfect picture of a typical desi wedding which is full of so many hiccups & people who come with their own agendas. I just don’t remember watching a Pakistani drama in such a long time which made me laugh so much & to be honest, Aangan happens to be one such drama that makes me happy. What a perfect entertainment!

So, Zoya Aqdas wedding was in full bloom with the Mehandi function. Shafiq actually came to attend the wedding & surprise everyone but then again, Abba Jee gave him a cold shoulder. Shafiq turned out to be a typical overseas returned desi who completely forgot growing up in this very environment because now he saw the entire wedding & the trouble of arranging it as a nuisance. Shafiq’s constant reminders of ‘mai isi liye Pakistan nahi ata’ were so funny. In stead of using this time to reconnect with his family & curbing his differences with Abba Jee’s, Shafiq continued to play the victim as if he didn’t hurt Abba Jee & he was being wrong in not treating Shafiq with the affection that he was entitled to!

So, Allaudin once again found a reason to be upset about, which was his matching Kurta with Abba Jee. Allaudin just can not come to terms with the fact that he is one of the elders of the family, that he is way too older than Aqdas, the chota damaad of the family & that is why he was keen on wearing that Green Kurta which the youngsters were wearing. I am sure if they had given him the Green Kurta, he would’ve complained that he was being put on the same pedestal as the bachas of the family, lol. Aalu & his issues!

Well, Faseeha came with her Jethani & Nand & they proved that they were those typical aunties who are avoided by every single person of the family because they find problem with every little thing & create issues over tissues. As if bickering with each other wasn’t enough that they started dragging the girls who were singing songs & also raised question over Zaitoon, Anila & Zoya’s age.

Well, Abba Jee’s cousin & childhood friend Bilqees made an apperance too. It seems Abba Jee has a soft corner for Billo that is why he not only made sure to invite her but also went out of his way to make her feel at home by taking care of her comfort. I loved the late night session that Abba Jee & Bilqees had, it was like Billo was the part of Abba Jee’s childhood that wasn’t lost. The way they both recalled old days & all the activities that they used to do was so cute but something that was even better was Zaitoon’s restlessness because she was clearly & rationally jealous. Bilqees’s fight with Aqdas’s aunts was also so very funny, it was like she knew how they had to be responded whereas everyone else on Zoya’s side apart from Anila was being mindful of the fact that they were larki walay so they had to tolerate everything. ‘Kissay di assi Majj churai hai’ has to be my favorite dialogue of this drama so far, lol!!!!

I loved this episode just so much. It is so amazing how watching this wedding takes you down the memory lane & makes you think about the things you might have seen or heard while attending your family weddings too. The way Anila reminded Rubina that she was wearing an old dress was also something that often turns out to be a conversation starter at desi weddings where everyone keenly remembers everyone else’s formal dresses.

I think I now desperately want to see a change in the equation that Zahid & Rubina share, something more, something new, something different please. Oh well, who would’ve thought that Sajjad will tackle Allaudin so intelligently, he just knew that Allu was trying to get some scoop on personal family matter therefore he told him to arrange someone who could take care of dholki, something that would distract him at least for the moment. Asim & Sajjad’s reactions were priceless when they knew they had taken care of Allu the best way possible, lol. I must say, I felt some sort of pity when Anila kept on lying to Allaudin to boost his ego & he immediately agreed to be at the wedding on time because Anila said what he wanted to hear. Allaudin is someone who just wants to be the center of attention, he likes to be praised even for the things he doesn’t do & since this is what Anila did, he seemed happy to be taking a part in Zoya’s wedding.

I must say, the way Faiza Iftikhar has etched out all these characters is amazing. Everyone has a unique but relatable personality & to keep them true to themselves till this stage of the drama is commendable. From Abba Jee to Shaina, every single one of them contributes & makes this drama complete. The way all these actors deliver the dialogues with so much of ease & effortlessness goes to show how they have owned these characters & are literally living them. I must say all the ladies looked so lovely with those beautiful dresses & heavy jewellery. Can’t wait to see more. Please share your thoughts about this hilarious episode of Aangan.

Tabeer Episode 3 – Review!

Ohkay so, this episode of Tabeer, though dramatic was really nice. Even though the story has been quite simple & predictable but it does look like the side characters are going to add that much needed flavour in this drama.

So, Tabeer found out about Yasir & her life turned upside down. Tabeer was someone who couldn’t even see Yasir down with a mere fever so for her to endure the painful news of Yasir’s passing was beyond imagination.

Fawad’s mother continued to spew venom against Yasir because she is so self-centered to think beyond herself & even for once show consideration about someone else. Fawad was also deeply affected by Yasir’s demise that is why he not only went to attend the funeral, but also tried to help his family financially.

Yasir’s first cousin Ajju happens to be quite a manipulative person that is why he lied to Fawad & also kept half of the amount he gave for the rituals. I actually thought Ajju’s brother would be a decebt person but even he kept half of the remaining amount as well. I don’t know why but I found that scene emotionally very disturbing when Yasir’s grandmother accepted that measly amount with so much of gratitude, my heart broke for her because while she was mourning the death of her grandson, she had no idea that there were vultures around her who were literally taking advantage of Yasir even after his death!

Ajju & his brother are obviously irresponsible beings who don’t really know how to fend for themselves, therefore they came up with a plan that they’d start living at Yasir’s house, which means they will create more issues for Tabeer & Daadi.

On the other hand, Zarnish contacted Sana, a heart-broken depressed soul who obviously has been rejected by Fawad that is why I think Zarnish contacted her to speak to her. I think Zarnish will request Sana to take care of Fawad after she is no more but then that place will be taken by Tabeer & Sana will be left heart broken once again.

This episode of Tabeer was definitely good. The preview suggested that the trials in the life of Tabeer are far from being over. With Daadi’s demise, Tabeer will be left all alone & not sure how she will be able to deal with Ajju & his family. Looking forward to the next episode. Please share your thoughts.
