We know that Bollywood love’s Pakistani artists especially our singers. If you look into it, before the tensions between the two countries rose to a breaking point last year, collaborations between Bollywood and Pakistani singers was a must. In fact Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan were a regular where Bollywood film songs were concerned. Out of the every 10 films that came out, 7 would feature a song by Atif or Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

After the cultural collaborations between India and Pakistan became suspended, a number of tracks recorded by Pakistani artists were re-recorded in India by Indian singers. Amongst these, was the film Malang’s track Humraah.

Although Malang already featured Nescafe Basement’s Bol Hu, by Soch the band- Adnan & Hadiya Hashmi, as its background score, the film also had Asim Azhar’s vocals for another song titled Humrah.

Because of the tensions between the two countries, Asim’s song was re-recorded by Sachet Tandon and was featured in the film.

However, Asim Azhar did receive credits for his contribution in the film and was mentioned as an official part of the film’s music.

Now, Azhar, has released his own version of “Humraah” and this one is a captivating track. Asim Azhar’s vocals have already received a lot of appreciation from across the border as well and had his version been used in the film, we were sure, the singer would have been the recipient of a debut award across the border. Nevertheless, here we are enjoying Humraah from Malang for the time being.

A video that recently went viral on social media showed the singer cum actor Asim Azhar, a youth sensation, was hurled a shoe at during his concert in Gujranwala, Punjab.

The video that went viral showed a shoe flying towards Azhar but missing him by inches and hitting his guitarist instead. However, nothing was actually clear in the video and one couldn’t really make out what had been thrown at the artists.

Following the incident which took social media by a storm and the troll brigade went to work, Asim Azhar recently uploaded a video clarifying the incident and explaining what had exactly happened.

The video shows a mock performance where something is hurled at Asim as he performs and a fake reporter rushes in as soon as it lands. While Asim realizes its a cap that looked like a shoe, the fake reporter creates sensational news about Asim being hit by a shoe during a concert.

The singer cum actor then clarifies that what landed on him during his performance was a cap that looked like a shoe and nothing else. He further showed his fans the evidence as well and told how the team collected the items that were left after the performances either on the stage or at the venue. During an interview with HSY,  Asim Azhar disagreed with Hadiqa Kayani being a legend. He said that legend is such a big word and a legend is the one who influences the masses.  This news was spread on social media making all the different meanings from Asim’s statement So Asim took to twitter to clarify the statement that he had made and explained what he was actually saying.

Asim tweeted, “I have recently come across a statement that I made on a TV show recently floating around regarding me not considering Hadiqa Kayani Ma’am a legend. PSL 5 is just round the corner and preparations are in full swing. Following the pre-match hype, like every year the officual PSL anthem was released. Produced by Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, the latest PSL anthem, Tayyar Hain, featured Asim Azhar, Ali Azmat, Haroon and Arif Lohar on vocals; and although this one did turn out to be catchy number, people aren’t really happy with it.

Instantly after the song was released, comparisons to previous PSL anthems were made with a number of people criticizing the latest version for being un-exciting.

He added that PSL anthems were not a competition and that all anthems belonged to Pakistanis.

“Sure, you have all the rights to like and dislike but please understand we all do this for the same cause, for the betterment of cricket, PSL and most importantly our Pakistan. Asim stated that he avoid posting during first 10 days of Muharram but he didn’t realize and missed the date.

Pakistani web series Churails is the talk of the town and has gained attention around the globe. It received positive response from the audience while as some even criticized it due to its content.

After its release, a Twitter user highlighted similarities between an opening scene of Churails with French illustrator Malika Favre’s artwork.

However, the director of Churails, Asim Abbasi didn’t clarify the matter earlier but after a month he has explained the whole thing.

He said that as soon as he got to know about this he reached out to Malika Fevre. “A few weeks ago the issue regarding the plagiarism / usage of an illustration created by French artist Malika Favre in Churails was brought to our attention. We immediately reached out to Malika to take necessary measures to rectify the situation.”

“I would also at this point like to clear the name of our animation creator, Studio Rokhan  @rokhan_official of any wrongdoing. Due to an oversight by the production house, the animation studio was provided the said artwork and given the authorization to use it @rokhan_official of any wrongdoing. Asim Abbasi helmed ‘Cake’ became the first Pakistani movie ever to have a world premier at Leicester Square in London even though the movie was already one of the most awaited movies of the year it just got to next level after the London premiere.

Albeit the audience awaits for the movie to be released in Pakistan we have just been given another reason to make that ‘wait’ a little more harder since the director Asim Abbasi was awarded the best director accolade for this film at UK Asian Film Festival.

Cake was screened at the festival on March 20, 2018 and the award ceremony was held on 25th March.

Making his way from documentaries to films the director Asim Abbas explained that the dominant theme in the movie is that of time during one of his interviews with The Express Tribune he said,

“Time is the connecting thread… Absolutely. It’s time in terms of how people grow old, in terms of how we deal with the past and the regrets people have,”

He further added,

 “We are exploring parent-child relationship, how children grow up but remain children for their parents. We are approaching the relationship between siblings and different dynamics within a family and between lovers, but all in a realistic way. We have tried to stay away from melodrama and keep it natural. It’s very emotionally-charged but not melodramatic.”

Explaining the idea behind title Asim said that,

“Cake is like a silent observer at every big moment of our lives. It will be interesting to see how many times the audience will see a cake popping up in the frame.”

When asked of why he chose a title that doesn’t even hint about what the movie is going to be about he said,

“Everyone approaches material differently. For me, having a clear-cut film name was never a thing. I don’t like being direct and giving answers. A film has to have a life beyond two hours in the cinema. I want viewers to carry Cake with them after the film is over.”

Asim also went on to praise the star cast of film adding,

“Adnan was a strange one because he was always in my head, when I was writing. It’s strange because I had not seen Sadqay Tumhare then. But his look stayed with me for the character, And when I met him, I realised he was a director’s actor, who would be open to exploring new territories. Aamina, in hindsight, was the perfect Zareen so I have been lucky.”

Talknig of how the mainstream cinema these days is all about rom-coms while ‘Cake’ seems so unique he said,

“As a director, along the way, we are forced to lose our honesty at some point. We try and make a film, and you have everyone else telling you to do things differently to make it more sellable. Luckily, I had people who had no such requests. I don’t think most people get that opportunity and I don’t think I’ll get that opportunity again,” 

On whether Cake will resonate with the larger audience, Abbasi said that he feels most film-makers shoot in the dark.

“I think a writer or director can only do honest work and pray that it resonates with the audience. We are doing a family film, and everyone has families. They know love and loss and grief. Is it a different film from the rest? Yes. But we are too young to say what works and what doesn’t.”

He continued,

“I hope that it works at the box office so that more people have the confidence to make different kinds of films. Because I feel that for every different film that doesn’t do well, we will see more of the same. And I don’t think in the long-term, the industry can’t survive with that.”

He also added,

“Right now, you have businessmen making films. Cinema is called a creative business but in Pakistan, the focus is only on business. It can work for short-term gains, but over time, we won’t build a legacy. Hardcore commercial cinema should definitely be made, as long as people are trying something new and interesting. Every kind of film should be made but with the idea of wanting to be creative.”

The film is set to release March the 30th this spring and we are certainly restless, inject this film in my face already.

Asifa Bhutto Zardari is a young Pakistani politician, she is the younger sister of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Asifa, oftentimes, accompany her brother on rallies and Marches. Today, she was attending a rally in Khanewal along with her brother Bilawal Bhutto Zardari where she was injured in a drone camera collision.

Asifa Bhutto Zardari was standing on the container of “Awami March”, held by PPP, in Khanewal, unexpectedly, the drone which was directed towards container hit her forehead. The collision of drone resulted in the injury.

Afterwards, Asifa Bhutto Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari went inside the container while Bilawal Bhutto Zardar also had put his ajrak on sister Asifa’s forehead.

Asifa Bhutto Zardari was immediately taken to a hospital for medical aid. According to sources, Asifa had a 4 cm wound on her forehead and she got 5 stitches on her forehead.
