A well known and sought after TV Director of Pakistani drama industry said this to me a couple of years ago when I shared a script of mine with him – and he asked me to edit it. He said “if you think the audience is intelligent enough to digest this, you’re being naive (I am sure he wanted to call me stupid as well)”
I remember being offended and I told him he’s insulting our audience. He just smiled this peculiar smile which clearly said “ Sure. Live in your own little world.”
Fact is – he is mega successful today, Mashallah. And I am still sitting with a Google Drive full of scripts I refuse to edit – because I believe our audience is NOT stupid.
But. Dramas like Tere Bin and Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha prove me wrong time and again.
Piya Bedardi proved the above mentioned director right for a 100 episodes! It gave my husband a lot of fame – and steady income – but it was a terrible storyline. Shockingly, to my horror, 95% of the audience who wrote to Omair, met him personally to applaud his performance and generally expressed appreciation were women!
I can see that Wahaj Ali, Yumna Zaidi, Zaviyar Nauman and Hania Aamir have played a master stroke in their careers to sign these – and to be fair to the actors – they are doing absolute justice to their characters. Wahaj is phenomenal!
Omair Rana did an awesome job at playing the psychotic Sahir – a sign of a good actor.
But what is wrong with our audience? The TRPs of the current dramas with their bizarre scripts have gone through the roof. And guess who’s the majority watching them, drooling over them and discussing them to no end – women.
I am a woman. And I refuse to accept the title of stupid audience. I take pride in being a girl raised with Haseena Moin values and her progressive content – with the bold woman image that Shoaib Mansoor promoted – with Anwar Maqsood Sb’s humour and fearless Sitara aur Mehrunnisa.

In this case, a lot of injustices have happened, people should hold those girls accountable. Omair Rana gave an interview to Jawad Bashir and shared that amongst the many stars that he has worked with, his favourite co-star in none other than Nauman Ijaz. The two shared the screen in Sang e Mah where Omair played Mastan Sngh while Nauman Ijaz played Haji.

He added that Nauman Ijaz has a great camaraderie on set and you have a good time with him off-screen. Moreover, as soon as the camera starts, he gets into his character and he gets absorbed in the world of the character that he is playing which is great to witness.

Omair Rana is loved by the audience. An actor with a theatre background, Omair has pulled off many characters on screens and he manages to win the audience even in a negative role. His current character Daud Ali Khan in Ishq Murshid is wildly famous and he has brought the oomph needed for the politician’s character to the screen.

Omair Rana was a guest on Green TV and revealed his wife’s role in his success. He said that he credits his wife’s prayers for all that he has achieved today. He has been through a lot of hardships and his wife’s prayers have finally brought them to this place.

Omair also revealed the financial hardships he had to face prior to this success. He revealed that he was living in a rented place alongside his wife and kids and he did not even have the proper furniture at his house. He had to live at the first floor in lahore summers which was hard for the kids but he came out of those hardships and he has constructed his own house now.

Omair Rana is hands down one of the most talented actors in Pakistan. He gets under the skin of every character he takes up and people love to watch him whenever he appears in a drama. He is also a teacher and his background in thatre has provided him with a nuance that many actors lack these days.

Omair Rana was a guest on Mazaq Raat and he spoke about if any of his characters took him over personally while he was performing. He shared that it has happened many times but his role as Mastan Singh in Sang e Mah really affected him and that character pulled him out of a very dark phase of his personal life. Omair Rana even performed Sewa while he was acting as Mastan Singh.

Omair also revealed how he convinced his father to start acting. He said that his father loved photography and he is also an artist. Thus he made him understand that getting into different characters and expressing them on screen and live is what art is for him and that fulfills him. Thus he was able to convince his dad.
