Shadi Mubarak Ho Episode 2 Review – Not Exactly Funny!

This second episode of Shadi Mubarak wasn’t half as lively and fun as the OST of the play which gives completely different vibes. I have to say that the first episode even with all its drawbacks was more interesting than this one because it covered a great deal and Yasir Hussain was definitely better at playing the guy who likes to play pranks than the “cute boy” who is hopelessly in love. Yasir Hussain is a natural actor but let’s be honest, he does not and cannot fit in the cute boy role! Also, the humor in this episode wasn’t really funny; the dialogues which were supposed to be humorous were more sarcastic than funny. So far, the characters too are simple, easy to relate to but they don’t really make you laugh and are not appealing enough.

Nyle fell in love with Zoya just like that and Zoya decided to forgive him too. While I found their scenes together realistic instead of too cheesy but the fact that these two characters are no longer fighting has somehow effected the chemistry between the two. In the first episode when they were both fighting, it seemed like Yasir Hussain and Kubra Khan shared good on screen chemistry but tonight watching them as a couple wasn’t exactly delightful. The reason for this also was that the scenes were too plain and they were neither serious nor funny! Another reason is that while Nyle’s character has a definite personality, Zoya’s character doesn’t have a lot to offer. There isn’t anything about Zoya’s character which is likeable, I hate to use this word repeatedly but she too is plain! Same is true for the relationship all the other characters have with each other. Nyle’s mother kept on looking for a girl for his son and this time around after being disappointed with all the other girls she has met so far, she decided to call her niece Rimsha to win her son over. I am not expecting Rimsha’s character to live up to the “hype” because clearly Shadi Mubarak doesn’t seem like one of those dramas which actually deliver!

Shadi Mubarak Ho Episode 2 Review - Not Exactly Funny!

The opening scene of tonight’s episode was a failed attempt at comedy and then the whole episode was filled with such scenes. What made the rest of the episode bearable is the fact that the actors playing the central roles are good actors.

So far, Shadi Mubarak does not have the kind of witty comedy or fun characters which the viewers were looking forward to watching when they tuned into this drama. The relationship between all the characters has also not been explored much and is one-dimensional and hence too plain. Nyle and his family discuss only one topic; all the conversations in the house revolve around his marriage. Even someone like Bushra Ansari who manages to make the most of every role assigned to her and makes sure all her roles have a different feel seems to be playing a role similar to the one she was playing in drama serial jhoot. The irony is that the mindset with which both these characters were written was anything but the same but Yasir Hussain failed to give Bushra Ansari the kind of character which would give her a new identity. I have said this before but I feel the need to say thing again – Bushra Ansari’s potential has not been exploited to the maximum in this serial. On the whole, Shadi Mubarak can pass as a guilty pleasure for those people who want to watch something which isn’t heavy-duty but don’t expect a lot of laughter from this one!

Farhan Saeed Confirmed to Perform in Coke Studio10!

The holy grail in the modern entertainment business is to find something that generates both critical and commercial success.

And for a long time – over the last decade or so – Coke Studio has assumed that mantle in our country. Of course, calling it a commercial success ignores the very post-modern reality of the show, as it is pretty much a commercial in itself. Regardless, the show has entrenched itself as the high-point of the Pakistani musical calendar.

Rumors had begun earlier this month about the artists that will perform on the show. In fact, Reviewit also provided with a list of ‘expected participants’ a few days back. Today we are happy to inform that Farhan Saeed from the list has been confirmed to perform in Coke Studio’s season 10!

Previously, he made his debut on the platform with JAL the band and made waves with the tune ‘Panchi’.We know very little of what his performance is going to be at the moment; whether it’s going to be solo or a duet. But we are sure that whatever this actor-singer sings will be worth the wait and patience.

Ali Zafar Felt ‘REALLY CONSCIOUS’ While Working in India!

Pakistani artists have been going to work in India since quite some time now. Although due to the ban on our artists after the Uri attacks the exchange of  talent between the two nations have caught a break, it doesn’t change the fact that artists like Fawad Khan, Mahira and Ali Zafar have already managed to create a good sized fan-base in India too.

After a successful stint in Bollywood, actor-singer Ali Zafar decided to take a sabbatical from Hindi movies in 2015 and concentrate on Pakistani films.

In a recent interview with Dawn, the singer revealed that he felt conscious while he was working in India, as the political situation between both the counties are quite unpredictable.

“While I was working in India, I was very conscious of the fact that this is not my country,” said Ali Zafar to Dawn. Her further added, “Pakistan is my country. Things between India and Pakistan are very uncertain. Things can come to a stop anytime. Which is why, contrary to popular perception, I never shifted my base to India. (masalabox.com) ”

Ali Zafar Felt 'REALLY CONSCIOUS' While Working in India!

Ali, always being conscious of his fans, defended the Indian public putting the blame on their media instead. He said, “The Indian Media instantly started trashing Pakistan but on the ground level nothing changed, things were still pretty normal for me.”

In wake of the Uri attacks and the volatile situation in Kashmir, the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) had banned Pakistani actors, singers and technicians from working on Indian films. This decision had the actor return amidst the ‘Dear Zindagi’ promotions.

“Being an optimist, I always see a silver lining,” he stressed in the interview. “Things happen at a certain time for a certain reason. There’s no point thinking and wasting your energy in trying to figure out what happened. I always knew this could happen one day. And as I was saying before was that we need to build our own industry. My film was already in preproduction, I was already thinking Pakistan.”

Ali Zafar has performed in Indian movies such as Kill Dil, Chasme Baddoor, London Paris New York, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and Tere Bin Laden among others.

We look forward to the work he does for Pakistan while living in Pakistan!

Fawad Khan’s Bollywood Mother Makes a Disappointing Statement Regarding him

India Today spoke to Ratna Pathak Shah about Pakistan’s heartthrob Fawad Khan. She’s more commonly known as Fawad Khan’s Bollywood mother as she played the role of Yuvraj Vikram Singh Rathore (Fawad Khan)‘s mother in his hit Bollywood movie, Khoobsurat and also the mother of Rahul Kapoor (Fawad Khan) in Kapoor & Sons.

Fawad Khan's Bollywood Mother Makes a Disappointing Statement Regarding him

One might thing that after playing Fawad’s mother in both of his Bollywood films, she might have developed a soft corner for her on-screen son but we are here to tell you that those motherly feelings have not found their way into Ratna’s heart.

When asked about her opinion on Fawad not being able to play more roles in Bollywood due to the circumstances in her Homeland, the actress gave a rather disappointing answer; one that hasn’t earned her any points from Fawad’s Indian and Pakistani fans:

“It is a problem but it’s not an insurmountable problem. Nobody is happy that these poor guys have been thrown out of business.”

Fawad Khan's Bollywood Mother Makes a Disappointing Statement Regarding him

We doubt that even her fellow Indian artists are happy about her above statement. Afterall, it’s downright disrespectful to say something like that about another artist.

Ratna however finally gave a somewhat sensible answer when asked about the on-going issue of banning Pakistani artists in India:

“I think it’s a limited and a silly vision to have. I would like to see much more participation across nations in arts.”

Although she didn’t say anything about bringing Pakistani artists back in her country for work, she did accept how important talent and art is for the Indian Entertainment Industry.

Art is one area where we can make connections. We can hear different stores, we can look at the world with fresh eyes.”

I think she deliberately avoided the usage of the words “open mind” and “clean heart”. What do you guys think about her statements?

Also, if Indians don’t recognize what a talent Fawad is, it is good to know Pakistan does. He is always welcomed with open arms in his motherland.

Twitter is Meera’s New “Hobby”

Twitter is Meera's New "Hobby"

Meera Irtaza has recently been very active on twitter and seems to enjoy all the responses she is getting to her witty tweets. The troll queen told media that Twitter is becoming her new hobby which allows her to interact with her fans effectively.

“On Twitter, I can speak my heart out.I am really enjoying it. Being a celebrity it allows me to directly interact with my fans.”

Meera has been all over the internet after she gave some witty responses to celebrities like Maryam Nawaz and Sheikh Rasheed. She furthermore, said that she reads every single response from her 48,000 followers, be it negative or positive

Upon asked about the reason for her being active on twitter , she said:

“There is no reason as to why I have become more active. I guess I have more time these days.”

Meera’s sudden interest in twitter also raised questions and made her followers to ask if someone else uses her account on her behalf to which she responded :

“People seem to think that my sister runs my account that is not true. I write each post myself and tweet from my iPhone 6.”

Meera jee has always looked for reasons to stay in limelight and twitter is doing her a lot of good in this regard.

Fawad Khan is Very Disrespectful – Meera

Meera, the uncrowned queen of controversies, seems disappointed in the sub-continental heartthrob Fawad Khan.

She complained that Fawad Khan has never shown an ounce of respect towards the senior actors of Pakistani Entertainment Industry. She pointed out her behaviour towards her senior actors when she was younger saying, When we were new to the industry, our seniors — legends such as Shamim Ara, Babra Sharif, Mahesh Bhatt and Subhash Ghai — taught us to go and acknowledge older actors.”

She doesn’t seem happy with entire generation of young actors saying, “Today’s young actors haven’t done much work but they still consider themselves to be superstars. They may have strong followings on social media or they may have acted in a few movies but they are yet to build a body of work for themselves.”

Further talking about respecting senior artists to ‘Daily Pakistan’, the masala queen made a statement in regards to Fawad Khan saying, “Fawad Khan is a good actor but is very disrespectful. He has never come up to me and said salaam to me. I am a senior, I have won many awards and worked in 155 films and 15 TV serials. And yet, I have appreciated his work. Why can’t he reciprocate by at least greeting me? He has never approached me and said ‘Meera, let’s work on a project together for Pakistan.’ These attitude problems need to be corrected.”

She should know that the young Sheheryar Munawar recently declared his love for her and also desired to work with her in the future! How’s that for a good, respectful actor of this generation, Meera Ji?

Zakham Episode 09 Review – True Picture Of Domestic Abuse

Episode 9 of Zakham was slow but amazing in the small details that were shown. It had a very accurate picture of domestic abuse which does not kill a woman or break her bones but breaks her spirit in a number of ways. There are these little things liks pretending to be nice to her when someone else is around and a bully otherwise, cutting off her support system,  doubting her valid reasons like illness for fake excuses, putting work load on her in a way that she has to bear it and then reprimanding her for not doing it with a happy face. These are the exact things that happen to crush a wife’s morale and self esteem and consumes her in hidden ways, so much so that one day she wakes up and her own reflection is a stranger to her. Such are the ways Khawar is shown oppressing Takbeer and retrospectively, as she remembers now,  demolaralising Tehreem as well.

The scene where this episode started was all too familiar, Takbeer and Ahmed absent for a genuine reason, Khawar’s head spinning like a  maniac that she has gone with Musa and then Khawar pretending he is relieved when he finds Takbeer is alright while he is seething inside. This time, however, Sultan took a good step in taking Takbeer away for sometime, though Khawar was soon there to make sure she is back again. His alter ego was once making him feel bad about mistreating Tehreem but now it is back to taunt him for not being a man enough to doubt Takbeer’s every step and give her a hard time about it. It once seemed like a guilty conscience speaking, but now it is more of a crazy sneaky man. Even Khawar’s alter ego is unsure of what it really wants from Khawar.

I may sound like a broken cord but nine episodes have gone by and we do not really know how and why Khawar is like this. The writer seems to have confused an insecure and childish man with a two face calculating one. Hence, Khawar swings between one and the other depending on the scene. He was mean enough to expect Takbeer to cook a multi course dinner for his sister’s family without any consideration for her health and then changed the word Shaitaan to shararti for   Ahmed for Tehreem’s sake. That shows him just as an immature person hungry for attention, and then when he suspects her for having an affair with Musa, he behaves like a lunatic who is hallucinating. Then again, when he pretends to be so nice in front of Takbeer’s family and changes his tone to a vile one as soon as they are out of ear shot is like a very calculating and controlling husband who knows exactly what he is doing to oppress his wife. The effect all this is having on Takbeer, however is shown with a lot of clarity. She is confused, exhausted, sensitive and tearful as any women would be under these circumstances.

Ther was not much in the episode regarding moving forward of the story. The story seems stuck where it did after Takbeer and Khawar’s marriage. Musa is shown going abroad, so he won’t be around to badger Takbeer for some more time. Rest is all the same, with all the characters with the same state of minds. Her parents are softening towards Takbeer but still do not question Khawar in anything he does. Like they can question him about the absence of a maid in the house, despite Khawar earning so well. Why can’t there by anyone to help Takbeer take care of household chores when he is certainly capable of paying them? Why cannot Takbeer go out of the house to fulfill her basic needs? Is she a house prisoner that she is or unable to go out and buy a carton of formula for Ahmed when it’s finished? If Khawar’s work at office is so important that he cannot leave it for grocery shopping, why does he not let Takbeer have the independence of doing it? Maybe it is because they, themselves are of the mindset that women need to be kept at their place; requesting, re requesting and then waiting for that request to be processed, even when they need small usable things. That is why Takbeer’s father was so against the idea of a working woman. Work brings financial independence and that is almost the only thing a woman needs to stand up for her rights. So they want to nip it in the bud by not allowing any working women to enter their household. That is just so sad.

Sharmistha Chatterjee To Collaborate Again With Meekal Hasan

Sharmistha Chatterjee, an Indian singer who earlier sang with Meekal Hasan Band (MHB) on Coke studio season 8, will be collaborating with MHB once again. Express Tribune reports that she has sung for the band’s album Andholan set to release in Pakistan by end of this year. Besides MHB, Sharmistha Chatterjee has also sung in collaboration with Faraz Anwar and Ahsan Bari with his band Sounds of Kolachi (SoK).

Andholan was originally released in 2014 but not many of the Pakistani people listen to the album at that time. Now MHB is releasing the album under their own record label, Digital Fidelity Studios (DFS).

Although, Indo-Pak collaboration in the current political scenario was tough to make but fortunately Meekal Hassan Band made it possible. Hopefully the joint venture is fruitful for both the singers.

Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai Episode 12 Review – And The Struggle Continues

So finally the delayed twelfth episode of Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hai was aired today. The episode was fast paced but because of a lot of developments in one episode, they were not all elaborated well.

Firstly, khala Batool was shown being so sweet to Naheed the very next morning after her tattling had created such a big trouble between Naheed and her brother. That attitude of hers was very confusing. Secondly, the neighbor’s proposal seemed really out of place. Though it could have been the end of Naheed’s troubles to accept his proposal, she knew that this easy way out was not the one that she wants for herself and her daughters; dignified and independent. Hence, she rightfully refused and that ended his chapter since he left immediately with all his belongings.

The saddest thing of the episode was that little Kiran finally lost her battle with illness, polio, poverty, her father’s utter neglect and her mother’s helplessness. The death was shown quite abruptly and the timeline moved forward quickly after that but Naheed had still managed to show some appropriate reactions of a grieved mother. Immediately upon hearing the news, she was devastated and kept on remembering all the things that were said after Kiran was diagnosed and how that little girl was frowned upon. That made me feel that Naheed must be satisfied deep down somewhere because even at that time, in the most limited of resources and support, she tried to get Kiran all the medical facilities she needed. Also, her stillness and her empty eyes when everyone was saying that it’s for her betterment that Kiran has died were truly those of a mother who loved her disabled child in a way this world can never understand.

Sadiq was shown mourning his mother’s death and while I always felt Sadiq to be dependent and weak minded, this episode changed it. He was purely evil and heartless when he got to know about Kiran’s death. Naheed’s absence on his mother’s death and her claims of raising their daughters aside, he should atleast have had some concern for Kiran. Some small fatherly twinge should have made him remember the little harmless baby girl whom he had never really accepted or known, but unfortunately there was nothing like that. There was this cruel man who was counting Naheed’s faults as if Kiran’s death had given him another excuse to vent out.

The time lapse of six years was a little off since Fariha was counting four years and Shehzad was counting two years since Iqra started tuitions or maybe he was saying two because Anam also joined her. Also, the story he had about Amber’s love for his son did not move the mean Fariha but it really affected him, even to the extent of saying that he is proud of his sister.

The promo will introduce us to Iqra, Anum and Amber as they are after the time lapse, and their reactions to all that they suffered in their childhoods. Let’s see how that one goes..

Ishq Wala Love – This Time In Pakistan!

Ishq Wala Love - This Time In Pakistan!

Well it certainly looks like this year is going to be pretty big for the Pakistani cinema industry. We have movies up and running at the theaters which are doing quite well at the box office and some new arrivals to be released in the year that look quite promising.

Of course there are some movies about which the audience is undecided as yet but we have hopes that they won’t let us down at a time when our film industry tends to be at such a pivotal point of cinema history.

An upcoming Urdu movie Ishq Wala Love had its music launch on Tuesday at the Lahore Press Club, where the two songs of the film disclosed at the event were approved to have good music and catchy playback voices. The music for the movie been composed by Sanwal Khan

The movie stars Hanan Sameed as the male lead role, who summarized it as a film that has drama and romance but both outlined with the truth of reality. He is quoted to have said:

“Though the movie is not so different but the director has tried to show the lost realism in this film.” – Source: Dawn Images

The female lead is Mahi Khan and she expressed her role as protean and taxing.

Its director, Imran Adeeb was excited for the release date and seemed quite hopeful on its success.

“The film theme that of a triangle love story was difficult to handle but we have put best of our efforts in the film.” – Source: Dawn Images

The producer and writer of the movie are Nasir Abbas and Nasir Adeed respectively. Other actors in the cast include Ali Tabish, Raheela Agha and Anwar Ali.

The film was shot in locations of Pakistan comprising places such as Kaghan, Naraan and Bahawalpur.

The film will be released on the 14th of August, 2017.

Yakeen Ka Safar Episode 12 Review – Heartwrenching!

This episode of Yakeen Ka Safar was emotionally overwhelming because every single emotion & reaction related to Daniyal & his death was portrayed so realistically & with such accuracy that it actually touched me on a very different level. The director along with the actors deserve full points for executing this aspect of the story in such a convincing & realistic manner.

So, another page was turned & once again, another ugly truth was revealed as to how people in power shut those eyes who dare to look at them & their flaws. Daniyal lost his life because he dared to air Rab Nawaz Shah & his son’s dirty laundry in the public. What’s sad is that Rab Nawaz’s goons turned Daniyal’s murder into a suicide & made it look like everything became a bit too overbearing for Daniyal to cope up with, whereas those who were close to him knew that Daniyal was anything but a coward. Yes, the evidences & the scenarios do paint the picture of a suicide but those who are aware of the corrupt system know that this is nothing but a murder as Daniyal was trying to punish the criminal for his crime but sadly, that criminal was far more powerful & evil.

I must say everyone’s reaction to Daniyal’s death was heart-wrenching. Daniyal’s mother, his father, then Asfand, everyone was not only shook but in denial as they were finding it hard to accept the reality that Daniyal, such a perfect son & brother was no more. For Usman’s family, they lost their precious son but for others, they were a bit quick to judge & still believed the false picture that the police investigation & the media was painting in regards to Daniyal’s character & his death. For that reason I loathed Usman’s brother, like he didn’t have an ounce of compassion in him to at least stand by his brother’s side in such a difficult time.

I found it loathsome how Rab Nawaz rewarded his goon with an overseas trip & what made me hate him a bit more was the fact that he was now concerned about the NGO worker too & wanted to put a pressure on her using her son as well. They actually have revealed the real face of such men in power & authority who do not care about anyone else but themselves & for them, taking someone’s precious life means nothing because it guarantees them mental peace that their opponent is not going to reveal their truth to the world as his tongue has been tied forever.

I must say out of everyone in Daniyal’s family, I was dreading seeing Gaiti’s reaction the most & yes, I couldn’t contain myself when I heard everything that Gaiti had to say about her husband. The fact that Gaiti was feeling guilty that she didn’t talk to Daniyal properly before he left was heartrending, like she knew she couldn’t undo that moment when her husband wanted to talk to her & she didn’t give him a chance because she never in her wildest dream would’ve imagined that her husband won’t be returning home. Gaiti is expecting Daniyal’s child & the fact that he is not going to be there when that child will be born is horrifying.

I really wish they move Zubiya’s track a bit forward now because all that’s happening in her side of the story for quite some while now is that she either is quiet or is getting taunted by Rehan & Sheema. I really want to see some progress in her track now even though I do understand that they had to make this episode entirely about Daniyal but just a scene or two other than Zubiya getting taunted would’ve sufficed.

Another thing that I liked in this episode was how Asfand visited Daniyal’s office to look for some sort of clue, even though he didn’t get anything substantial but the fact that he & his friend got to know about Majid was a very little progress that they made. Sadly, now when Asfand will spot Majid’s house, he will find out that Majid is no more too or may be Majid didn’t die because after he got shot, they didn’t show anything about him after that. May be they are keeping this suspense & Majid is alive who will now help Asfand. While looking at how helpless everyone was feeling, all I could think of was how are they going to find out the truth? Usman is not going to do anything so I don’t really expect much from him but will Daniyal’s family ever find out the truth behind his murder? Will they ever find out how Daniyal died? The fact that Noori was told to leave also showed that even the NGO Worker lost the hope in this case & wanted out from it because Daniyal’s tragic ending obviously weakened her too.

Overall, this episode was perfect, like the way every single actor acted to portray the sadness that Daniyal’s death brought to them was phenomenal. For me, Hira Mani definitely took the crown in this episode with her perfect performance, like she actually convinced us all to cry with Gaiti at the loss of her husband Daniyal, which is her win as an actor. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yakeen Ka Safar.

Ushna Shah Beats The Heat With New Hairstyle

Ushna Shah has always been very versatile when it comes to carrying off different looks successfully. In Alif Allah air Insan, we have seen her transform magically from a beggress to a polished and groomed not yet prostitute, but a maid on the Kotha.

After all these fancy hairdos and big loose hair, Ushna Shah is now sporting a very funky and laid back cornrow hairstyle.

Ushna Shah Beats The Heat With New Hairstyle

It is an African hairdo, where hair are twisted and braided back off the face in neat cornrows starting from the forehead. Ushna’s reason for changing her looks was that she is semi retired now, so wanted a change of hairstyle that would be comfortable in this heat. She finds it too hot to sport Rupenzal like hair. She has no intention of changing the hairstyle back to open locks any sooner now, as she is enjoying the ease of it. Don’t forget to give your opinion about her new looks in the comments.

Teri Raza Episode 01 Review – An Average Start!

Ohkay so, the production of Big Bang Productions, writing of Naila Ansari & the direction of Aabis Raza, Teri Raza, Sanam Baloch’s comeback drama commenced tonight. To be honest, the first episode was filled with clichés but I am definitely going to give this drama a chance considering Sanam Baloch has made a come back with this project & as she said she was waiting for a perfect script, so I am still assuming this drama will have something special to offer to its viewers in the future.

So, the main leads & their families got introduced in the first episode in great detail. Suhana (Sanam Baloch) is the only child of Zafar (Tanveer Jamal) & Talat (Shaheen Khan) & comes from an affluent background. Suhana’s Dadi (Ayesha Khan) is an orthodox woman who doesn’t allow anyone to take any major decisions unless she has conducted an Istikhara. Since there was a lot of focus on Istikhara & how everyone is obliged to follow it because of Daadi I am assuming it will play a major role in how the story especially Suhana’s life will pan out. Suhana is peppy, bright & carefree girl who can be classified as a hopeless romantic too.

Another main lead is Rameez (Shehroz Sabzwari), son of Sultan (Saife Hassan) & Sara (Tara Mehmood). Rameez is also the only child & since he also comes from an affluent background, he is immature & spoiled. Even though Rameez’s father is a heart patient, Rameez really hasn’t understood the responsibilities he might have as the only son of the family. Rameez is someone who believes in enjoying life because right now, life hasn’t thrown much trials & tribulations his way, that is why he has a non-serious attitude.

Teri Raza Episode 01 Review - An Average Start!

The third & the last lead is Imtiyaaz (Surmed Sultan Khoosat) who is also the only son of Sitara (Shamim Hilali). Imtiyaaz or rather to refer to his age & overall personality Paa Mmtyaaz (Imtiyaaz Bhai) is your typical seedha saada umar raseeda jawan who succeeded in making a career for himself & earned quite a lot of money out of it, but while he was at it, he forgot to keep a track of his age & couldn’t get married at the right age & the right time. Sitara is Zafar’s sister so it makes Imtiyaaz Zafar’s nephew & Suhana’s first cousin & now since he has come back from abroad, Imtiyaaz’s wedding is everyone’s main concern.

So, the drama had a very straight forward beginning where Suhana & Rameez are college mates & are in love but till date haven’t really confessed their feelings that they have for each other. Rameez’s boisterous & friendly personality makes Suhana a little uncomfortable because even though she likes him, she feels he isn’t serious about her. The fact that Rameez is a bit too friendly with every other girl in the college makes Suhana a little insecure & makes her question her value in his life. Rameez & Suhana share a very unique relationship where they keep on hinting about the feelings that they have but don’t really bother confessing openly. Suhana’s conversations with her maid Manzoora provided some light-hearted moments where Manzoora putting her experience to good use tried to guide Suhana in the matters concerning Rameez.

Teri Raza Episode 01 Review - An Average Start!

Imtiyaaz & Suhana come across each other too & just because Imtiyaaz’s marriage happens to be the subject of discussion, Suhana takes part in it as well, which gives Imtiyaaz a glimpse of her personality. Just because Rameez has his car stolen, his father has another heart attack & is hospitalized, that’s when Rameez is forced to do some thinking & analyzes the importance of certain people in his life. The fact that in this difficult time, Rameez thinks only & only about Suhana, it makes him realize that she is quite important to him & that’s when he decides to let her know clearly that she belongs to him & that he loves her.

So, this was what the first episode was all about. The characters were pretty one-dimensional & the story has had a very typical start too. I am afraid as excited as I was about Teri Raza considering it is Sanam Baloch’s drama, the first episode hardly gave me anything good to notice or talk about. There was zero chemistry between Suhana/Sanam & Rameez/Shehroz & I found their romance a bit too forced. At times I did feel that Sanam Baloch was still in her hosting element & was struggling a bit in finding her acting mojo back but again, being someone who has always enjoyed watching her performances on screen, I am pretty sure she will make Teri Raza worth watching so I am still hopeful.

I am afraid I don’t have much nice things to say about both Shehroz Sabzwari & Surmed Sultan Khoosat. To be honest, while watching Shehroz Sabzwari, I couldn’t take Chain Aye Na’s trailer out of my mind so it clouded my judgment so much that I was finding it hard to keep a straight face every-time he came on screen. I don’t know why but I feel Shehroz Sabzwari is a bit too inspired by Shahrukh Khan – giving out chocolates to his friends like SRK did in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai & also wearing black leather jacket in Chain Aye Na’s trailer while getting beaten up by the villain exactly like SRK did in DDLJ’s climax makes my belief firm that he takes a lot of inspiration from SRK but it still doesn’t help him much. Since ‘tambaku noshi is sehat ke liye muzzar’, I don’t really get why they glorified it by showing that Rameez smokes because even in the scenes where they relied heavily on the cigarette to give Shehroz a cool hero wali vibe, it didn’t do anything. The fact that Shehroz mostly forgot to button up his shirts & wore a deep neck Tee made me queasy & not to forget the silver chain, like I feel Shehroz put a lot of effort in his overall get up to scream that he is the hero of the drama but it didn’t come through because the main factor which is the acting was weak! While Shehroz forgot to button up his shirts, I wish Surmed had at least unbuttoned 1 of the collar buttons of his dress shirt because he not only looked suffocated but it also made it seem that he was having a hard time delivering his dialogues since his vocal chords were brutally squeezed. Sumred Sultan Khoosat might be suitable for the role considering his age but was he in his acting element, I am afriad I’ll have to say no, because he clearly seemed uncomfortable.

The older male cousin & younger female cousin scenario gave me Malal vibes & the fact that Shamim Hilali is once again playing the role of an aged beta’s mother was also a perfect reminiscent of Malal, which happens to be my favorite drama by the way. To be honest, since Sanam Baloch’s name is associated with this project, I was expecting fireworks which I didn’t get but I will settle for the worn out crackers for now considering it is the first episode. Also, I must say that the lighting & the makeup couldn’t do justice to Sanam Baloch’s natural beauty, in some frames she looked beautiful like she usually is but in some frames just alright. I wish Sanam had chosen such a script where her character had some substance, like that sort of a character which would’ve forced the viewers to do some thinking like in Kankar, because I feel her fans are past that stage where they’d want to see her playing the role of a college student in love with the bad boy! As much as I am happy with Sanam Baloch being the cast member, I really believe any other actors apart from Shehroz Sabzwari & Surmed Sultan Khoosat would’ve been better options. Overall, this drama has had an average start but I am still giving it a chance because I am hoping it will improve, even though the promos have given out the entire theme of the drama but let’s see how it unfolds. Please share your thoughts about the first episode of Teri Raza.

Anupam Kher’s New Movie Shows The Propaganda Of Being A Muslim Today

Anupam Kher's New Movie Shows The Propaganda Of Being A Muslim Today

Hollywood’s The Big Sick stars Anupam Kher of Bollywood and revolves around the real life story of comedian Kumail Nanjiani. What’s important though, according to the actor, was the fact that it focuses on how Muslims are distrusted in the society due to their religion and false ties with terrorism. He is quoted to have said:

“The Big Sick is a very important film. It talks about racism, xenophobia, cultural isolation and the way Muslims are regarded with suspicion and distrust. And it deals with such serious issues with warmth and laughter. I love it.”

He is excited working for it since the film is directed by the celebrated Michael Showalter. Also he said that this movie has been an opportunity to broaden his horizon as an actor after having worked with the likes of Woody Allen and Robert De Niro.

Anupam Kher's New Movie Shows The Propaganda Of Being A Muslim Today

The actor got the role of Nanjiani’s father because Nanjiani’s real father was keen on the Anupam himself. Kumail got in touch with Anupam through a relative and the contract was made. Both Anupam and Kumail’s father were excited to see each other and the meet was an emotional one.Although the actor faced some visa and work permits issues, he was able to complete his shooting timely.

Let’s await and see what the movie has to bring!

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 11 – Perfection Personified!

Ohkay so, I must say right from the beginning till the end, this episode kept my eyes glued to the screen because it was so good. I will commend the director here especially for making this drama, especially this episode a visual treat & by giving every single scenario & situation a perfect mood because all these details add more charm to the drama-watching experience & made this episode even more special. There were so many little things that kept on adding more beauty to this episode & I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, I think after a good few weeks, this was one such episode that I not only found convincing but perfect in every respect.

For a change, it was good to see that someone else came to meet Baba Jee. I do understand Zaitoon’s love for her son Shahzeb & just because she is a mother & can not see her son suffering, she decided to put her heart to ease by finding answers to the questions that were bothering her. I absolutely loved each & every single word that Baba Jee said about Allah, I think after a very long time I got to hear such words which do justice to the concept & idea of Allah that we all Believers have, because usually in dramas, we have always seen how writers tweak with very simple & basic concepts to fit the theme of their drama. I will personally thank Qaisara Hayat for penning these dialogues & this entire conversation to perfection. Yes, Zaitoon got carried away & thought she could question Allah, something that everyone does when they find themselves at the dead end of something, but the beauty with which Baba Jee told her that everything is Allah’s plan was commendable. Baba Jee tried to make Zaitoon understand that if she thinks Shahzeb is suffering, she shouldn’t really bother because Allah must be testing Shahzeb. I liked how immediately Zaitoon realized her mistake that she was in no position to question Allah, I will say this has to be my favorite conversation out of all the episodes of Alif Allah Aur Insaan that I have watched till date.

The love that a mother has for her child was once again highlighted by showing Rani’s mother, who decided to contact Shammi to find out about Rani. I find it heartwarming how Rani’s mother is always thinking about her & is now even walking an extra mile to find a way to her daughter. I wish Shammi had received that phonecall because the disappointment on Rani’s mother’s face was heart-wrenching. Even though Zaitoon being a mother wants to make her son happy, I so wish in stead of trying to put a lid on the real problem, she had decided to face it & had given her son the courage to face it too. I found Zaitoon’s approach a bit irrational where she thought only to make Shahzeb happy, she should get on with the wedding preparations, while completely ignoring the voice in her head which wwas telling her that something was definitely not right. Like I have said this previously, I think Zaitoon should allow Shahzeb to see the reality in stead of putting a filter on it because that way, she will be able to save her son from a bigger heart break.

Even though throughout this drama, I was mindful of the curses that Shammo & Nigaar directed towards Nazneen & Shahzeb, this episode served as a bigger reminder of those curses because I could see Nazneen & Shahzeb taking steps towards their undoing. Finally, Nazneen convinced Basit & he gave in, but is it really going to be a smooth sail? Nazneen really is immature to foresee the consequences that is why right now she is just living in the bubble that now that she has finally won Basit over, she has achieved everything & Basit is actually lucky that she loves him? Even though Basit resisted but he had to surrender because all this while even he was struggling to keep his feelings for Nazneen at bay. I can already see that this commitment is only going to bring unhappiness & misfortune to both Nazneen & Basit but does Basit really deserve it? Yes, I know for Nazneen, it will be the curse that will harm her but does Basit have to suffer too? Even though I would hate to see him suffer but I guess yes, he will face the brunt as well because he consciously fell in her love with Nazneen while still being aware of every single obstacle that stands in their way. For Shahzeb, his heartbreak is just around the corner because now that Nazneen in her own little bubble is officially committed to Basit, she will ditch Shahzeb & then we will see Nigar’s curse coming into the picture as well!

So, Rani defeated Nigar in a race that she never was a part of. It is amusing how Nigar ended up losing everything only because of her own behavior but since she is so engulfed in the self-pity & self-victimization, she failed to see that everything that she was facing was not because of anyone else but because of her own-self only. Chaman Begum was right, she warned Nigar & told her to not get emotionally invested in Nawazish Ali too much but Nigar thought he was not only promising her his film, but his lifelong commitment too. Yes, it is understandable that since Nigar is tired of carrying this fake facade of contentment, anytime someone treats her with affection & respect, she assumes that he is her Mr. Right, but to actually hold someone else responsible for her own failure shows that she is someone who doesn’t want to face the reality & realize that she could be at fault too. I guess getting rid of Fizza Bai didn’t satisfy her cravings enough that Nigar actually had to resort to violence against Rani to make herself feel better & superior, that too when Nawazish clearly told her that it was because of her own display of selfishness & undue superiority that he didn’t want to be associated with her.

Overall, this episode was perfection overload. There were so many frames that gave this episode a little extra something, like the one in the woods where Nazneen confesses her feelings to Basit to add that touch of romance, then the daunting green lighting in the scene were Rani gets beaten highlighting the ugliness of the situation & then also the shot where Rani’s mother walks between those huts giving an idea of her new surroundings & poverty – I feel the director really took an extra step in making every situation not only complete but visually realistic & convincing too & for these little details, an observer like me enjoyed this episode the most. The acting of all the actors was top-notch but Ushna Shah once again took it to another level, Rani’s screams telling a tale of the physical & emotional pain that she was going through were daunting. The way Rani called out her father for help was so painful. I feel all the actors also took care of their overall get ups because they all seem to be living these characters which again makes everything quite convincing. I am definitely looking forward to the next episode, especially Shahzeb & Nazneen’s meeting because looks like Basit’s acceptance of her feelings has given her this new confidence with which she will make it clear to Shahzeb that she is not interested in him, also looks like Shammi will be making a way for Rani as well, I can’t wait. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.
