Wax statues of Bollywood actors

0

Bollywood has produced a number of fine actors right from the very beginning. It is an unhidden fact that Bollywood actors are appreciated all around the world including Pakistan. One can find crazy fans of Shahrukh khan, Ambitabh bachan, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareen Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and many others. From every section of our society we can easily find people who are die-hard fans of Indian actors. And when their films hit Pakistani cinemas they are the first ones to grab their tickets & book their seats. There is a strong influence of their culture and tradition in our society and therefore one can relate why the actors are so applauded.
Recently I was in conversation with one of such die-hard fan of Indian actors who visited the famous Madame Tussauds Museum in London. It was not surprising for me when I came to know that wax statues of a number of Indian actors have been kept in the museum and these statues are very popular among the visitors. Let us have a virtual look over these statues:

Pakistani Dramas v/s Indian Dramas

0

Pakistani Drama Industry (PDI) is doing way better than Indian Drama Industry (IDI). We all know that there was a time when Indian dramas were penetrating our society. At that time, revival of the PDI was needed. Then there came a period when PDI started to flourish and started to produce good dramas that became very popular among the people. Viewers started to switch back to Pakistani dramas and turned down the Indian culture. This period is termed as the “REVIVAL OF PDI”. There were some very basic reasons which drove the Pakistani viewers to start accepting the Pakistani dramas v/s Indian dramas. Some of them are:

i) Realistic v/s Unrealistic depiction
ii) Focus on story line v/s focus on make-overs
iii) Short time period v/s lengthy time period
iv) Sensible choice v/s Insensible choice of actors
v) Strong plot v/s weak plot

23

i) Realistic v/s Unrealistic depiction:

The Pakistani dramas were more realistic than the Indian dramas. The viewers can relate to the dramas. They depicted the true picture of their society, their problem and their issues whereas the Indian Dramas were un-realistic in nature so slowly and gradually they went unpopular and finally died out e.g Kasauti Zindagi Ki, Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu the, kahani ghar ghar ki etc. Today a great number of people from our society want to tune in Pakistani dramas channels rather than Indian drama channels because of this major reason

ii) Focus on story line v/s focus on make-overs:

There was more focus on make-overs, styles, costumes of the drama actors and renovation of sets in Indian dramas rather than storyline but Pakistani dramas were based on stories and the sets were also designed accordingly. Also the costumes chosen for the actors of a particular drama filmed in Pakistan was in relevance to the story line of the drama. This was lacking in Indian drama

iii) Limited & short time period v/s unlimited or lengthy time period:

The traditional Indian soap serials usually used to last for a long time (a year or two or even more sometimes). The viewers usually lost interest in watching such long engaging serials whereas Pakistani dramas were prepared with a defined scope, time period and were lesson oriented. Usually these lesson-oriented dramas got more popularity and acceptance from the viewers than former ones.

iv) Sensible choice v/s insensible choice of actors:

The choice of actors as per the role’s need and demand was ensured in Pakistani dramas. This aspect was lacked in Indian drama from the core. You would usually see a girly looked female actor performing the role of a mother in Indian dramas. Obviously, this kind of lack of sensibility from the selectors of actor was noticed by the viewers and was unacceptable, so people inclined towards Pakistani dramas which were more sensibly fabricated.

v) Strong plot v/s weak plot:

This is the fore-most triad which led to successful Pakistani Dramas. You can easily imagine a drama which consists of finest cast and crew and lacks a strong story-line, such kind of drama most probably never survives and fails to win over people.
By lying out some of the many factors which led to the triumph of PDI, I by no mean, claim that there weren’t and aren’t any unsuccessful Pakistani dramas. All I want to say is viewers, accept only those dramas which they think will live up to their expectations.

24

The PDI should understand, now to produce good stuff for their people else their efforts will go vain. I have seen some Pakistani dramas recently that are not doing well. The storyline is far away from reality, to name some “Rishtay kuch adhory se”, “Ishq hamari galioun mein” etc. It is high-time that the PDI realizes their flaws and try to fill up the left gaps else they will again loose their potential viewers.

What do you think about the current situation of PDI?

Have your say

Kabhi Kabhi – Episode 12.

0

I honestly think that Samira Fazal should take a break or may be it’s going to be better if I don’t fall prey to the amazing cast that is hired to make hideous stories look good. Silvatein being one of the examples, I now think Kabhi Kabhi is going down the line too. Seems like the plot is missing & there is literally nothing to go ahead with therefore little things are being dragged to reach to the end of racing point of 20+ episodes.

Where this episode was a filler, it looked exactly like a last episode in which Sunny was in the limelight for being made fun off & the whole episode was dragged on it, this time it was Eeshal’s burnt hand that was a topic of everyone’s tragedy. I kept on wondering who actually deceives the watchman to meet the wife & when he entered the room, Eeshal looked oblivious. I mean she saw her father’s reaction at the hospital & all his yelling but still she was clueless at how her father is going to treat Arez. Any daughter knows where her father comes from therefore, Eeshal’s Eva-like behavior was a bit hard to digest. I am kind of confused that at times Eeshal looks absolutely strong who handles things perfectly but at times she is as spaced out as Eva that she forgets to check what’s been happening around. By this time Eeshal should’ve gotten a heed of what her father thinks of Arez but seems like there’s a time to it too.

Arez got fired with the help of his friend. That was one stone which hit the wall of predictability. I think it would’ve been better if Eeshal’s character had evolved in such a way where she could foresee where her father’s tangent was going. She should’ve done things to undo what her father was planning but to blindside her character in that respect is making it lose the charm. Otherwise, I remember I loved Eeshal’s character the most & still do but some changes for the better isn’t much to ask for.

I am still waiting to see the point of Eva being in the picture & waiting to see what Rehbar comes up with? Till now he is just finding himself win in petty things like making Eeshal’s marriage work with Arez even when his FIL (father-in-law) hates it, he is being reasonable with Eeshal to tick his FIL off. I think there should’ve been a bit more to his character.

Anyhow, this episode had nothing much to offer so I find it out of question to be discussing it too. I hope there’re some changes in either the pattern of the episodes or the characters because it’s getting tedious to just speak about things which aren’t progressing & are petty. Plus I hate the background music & OST. Looks like it’s some sort of an opera that we’re watching & it has some larger-than-life feel to it which doesn’t suit the drama which is based on gharelu masail without unke hall.

Pakistan Idol – First Impression!

0

Ohkay, so the most raved about, the most anticipated show of 2013 Pakistan Idol began & no doubt where at times it looked like a decent attempt, it fell flat as well. I really don’t understand why do Pakistanis have to over-do certain things. There looked like a lot more people who were forced to make an entry for the TRP’s but I may be wrong too because some people love being ridiculed as they are blinded by their over-confidence.

I have to say that the most decent judge in the panel of 3 was Hadiqa Kiyani. She seemed to-the-point, sophisticated & was giving judgements rationally. Ali Azmat was fine too but I expected more from him being the only male judge there. The only judge who was over-doing it was Bushra Ansari. With all due respect, she may have released a few albums which I never came across but yeah, heard her singing in some shows all these years, but by NO means she can be taken as a singing icon of Pakistan.

As all other Idol shows are followed globally, I am sure Pakistan Idol would make it there too, so the panel of judges should’ve been selected with utmost attention. I feel the only judge who seems to impress till now is Hadiqa Kiyani because she did give her YESES to those contestants who deserved but seems like Bushra Ansari had to say NO to every single person. I think she is being a bit too overly judgemental at the things which didn’t even come across as technicalities that she was pinpointing. Yes, Bushra Ansari even blessed us viewers by singing a few lines in order to correct a contestant but to add to her woes, her voice couldn’t even come through to us even with a help of mic. Making me feel more at how an inappropriate choice she was for that judging seat.

Mohib Mirza seems to be hosting a show, he was doing a fine job too but at times it looked like he was passing a few personal comments on the random people from the crowd. I think a host should be the most neutral person out there who shouldn’t  judge at all.

I think it could’ve been a far more better show if a bit more experienced singers judged it. It wasn’t necessary to pick all the Karachi based singers for selection of Pakistan Idol. I am wondering where did Rahet Fateh Ali Khan go when the very first Pakistan Idol was being planned because he has also judged a few shows in India so why wasn’t he approached or why didn’t he become a part of Pakistan Idol? Shafqat Amanat Ali was another person who would’ve looked perfect in that spot for judging. But nevertheless, I am definitely going to follow the show hoping when the actual selected lot hits to our screens, it becomes a better first attempt of Pakistanis under this title.

Have you say.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Aasmanon Pay Likha Episode 12 – A Heart Wrenching Episode!

0

Like most of us predicted, Zaheer-ud-deen passed away and his death left an impact on everybody’s life. The story has reached a turning point with Zaheer-ud-deen’s death, and I am glad the story is finally going to move forward from next episode.

Aaliyan needed this wake up call to realize the gravity of the situation. Aaliyan might be care-free/careless, but he is definitely not heartless. He completely supported Qudsiya during this testing time when the whole world has collapsed on her. She had put a brave face for her father, and now that her father is gone so has her strength. She needed someone’s support at this point, and Aaliyan was there for her throughout.

photo(4)

In the past two or three episodes, we have seen that Aaliyan had been completely fed up of the upheaval Qudsiya had created in his life and was pretty irritated by Qudsiya’s presence in his house. He took her to the hospital and took care of her for only Dudi’s sake, but this time Dudi did not ask him for anything. He stood by Qudsiya by his own free will, and in the process recognized the true faces of many people in his life.

apl new 4

He is finally realizing that he is surrounded by selfish people. It was the cruel words spoken by his father that ended Zaheer-ud-deen’s life, and he had absolutely no guilt. He was ashamed of his father, and he was pretty vocal about it. He did get a slap as an answer for his misbehavior, but he really did not care about it at the moment. He had not expected his father to stoop so low and had no regrets of standing up to him.

apl new 2

Another development (which made me really happy) was that Aaliyan is finally realizing that his feelings for Natasha are more out of necessity than love. He had been craving for love throughout his life, and when he got a drop of it from Natasha, he quickly grabbed it with both hands. His desperation for love made him blind to Natasha’s faults and how selfish she really is. But now slowly, the blinds are removing and he can finally see the stark truth about Natasha. He has started to question his feelings for her, and he would be more open about it to Dudi in the next episode.

apl new 5

Sajjal Ali completely stole the show this week. The way she broke down after her father’s death was truly heart wrenching to watch. All of Zaheer-ud-deen’s daughters were really attached to him, especially Qudsiya. She had not only lost her father but her support system, a friend and I simply loved the way Aaliyan offered her to share her troubles with him now. I simply loved the way he was genuinely worried about her health. But the main question is; will he stand by her now when she has no reason to be his wife anymore? Her father’s health was the main reason she had been staying in his house in the first place. Will Aaliyan be Qudsiya and her family’s support system or will he take a step back? These are some questions that have popped in my head and I hope we get the answer soon.

apl

He had offered to be her friend but she had declined. The shocking part came after that when he told her ‘Ek Kaam Karte Hai, Mein Apko Divorce Nahi Deta’. I do not know if he was joking or if he was serious, but I was really taken aback when he told her this.

apl new 3

I am sure about one thing though; Dudi will help Qudsiya in this situation and will not leave her alone in such hard times. She truly cares about the girl who is badly stuck in a serious situation that could impact her whole life.

One phase of this story has ended and I am eagerly looking forward to its next phase. It will be interesting to watch how the story will shape now.

Aseer Zadi Episode 16 – Review

0

We got to see a turn of events in last week’s episode. Maira and Shahab are both happy now that the truth has been proved in front of everybody. Both Maira and Shahab are on top of the world while Badi Sarkar and Peer Jalal are in shock.

Badi Sarkar is in a state of shock when Maira was proved right, but she discovered another truth that shook her to the core. She was devastated to hear that the so-called tradition in the family is a forced one, and she is not the true Badi Sarkar. Amna was the true Badi Sarkar, as she was the first one to bear the heir of the family, and this secret has been hidden from her all this time. She had blindly believed in the tradition, which was just an attempt to keep the karamat of the family going.

What shocked me the most was the discovery that Badi Sarkar is not insensitive as I thought; she was not in favor of what had been done to Amna all those years ago and was upset with Peer Jalal. Peer Jalal revealed the truth to Badi Sarkar, and also clarified that he had no hand in killing his own child. His parents were the real culprits behind it. I had thought that Badi Sarkar would follow her in-laws footsteps, but she clearly told Peer Jalal that she would have no hand in killing his son’s child.

Badi Sarkar had been ruling the haveli like a queen which she thought was her right, but now she has gotten to know that she was not the real queen in the first place. All her ego has been crushed in mere seconds, and she is unable to deal with the current situation. Even Amna and Naseemi have grown wings within the span of a day, and are now challenging Badi Sarkar’s authority.

The scene where they both dressed up was hilarious, and the best part was Badi Sarkar could not do a thing about it. She could just watch them enjoying themselves and indirectly taunting her. What made her angrier was that Peer Jalal did not say anything to them either. He easily gave them permission to go out.

Maira’s sudden change in attitude was pretty shocking for me. She is being too haughty and proud in my opinion. She should try to keep a low profile right now and not make enemies at the moment. The way she misbehaved with Badi Sarkar over a petty issue was not something Maira would normally do. Even the way she spoke Shahab emitted authority. She is not even Badi Sarkar yet, but is busy showing airs to everybody! I hope she does not misbehave with the rest of the people in the haveli. She had been advised to maintain distance from everybody by her mother, I hope this does not lead to a misunderstanding though. Her supporters might turn against her if she does not treat them well.

Fatima truly lost hope after hearing that Maira was telling the truth, but her parents won’t let their insult go so easily. Peer Jalal is tensed and thinking of ways to save the reputation of his family and Sikander will take advantage of this situation. Sikander has now gotten the upper hand and will blackmail Peer Jalal to keep his secret.

Will Badi Sarkar really leave the haveli and give her throne to someone else so easily?

Now let’s see what is in store for us next!

Do share your opinion about the episode!

Iman Ali, Fahad Mustafa and Sanam Saeed starrer Poora Chaand: Shooting in full swing!

0

Previously, we reported that a movie is being made in which the leads would be Iman Ali, Fahad Mustafa and Sanam Saeed. The movie is tentatively titled ‘Poora Chand’. The latest news is that the shooting of this movie is in full swing nowadays in Karachi. The shooting of this movie will be completed by January after which it will go through the post-production phase. The movie is produced under the banner of MiRaqsam media.

This will be the first big screen debut for Sanam Saeed and Fahad Mustafa. Iman Ali has already proved herself as an actress through her movies ‘Khuda Ke Liyeah’ and ‘Bol’. Her performance has been highly appreciated in both the movies. The movie is written by the veteran writer and director Sarmad Sehbai. It will be his debut as a movie writer; previously he had written theatre plays and TV plays. Some of his popular works are Fankar Gali, Toba Tek Singh, and Naya Qanoon. Sarmad is not a main-stream writer, and he has once stated when reprimanded as to why he has not produced more in recent years, his response was simple ‘the mainstream art mafia does not allow me to do my work. Ours is not a ‘visual’ society; its text orientated. The word is divine and sacred. There is too much body control for visuals as an art form to flourish here.’  Clearly, Poora Chand will not be a main-stream movie since it is penned down by Sarmad.

The movie will also star Manzar Sehbai, brother of Sarmad Sehbai. Manzar Sehbai made his film debut with 2011 with Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol opposite Humaima Malick, Mahira Khan, Atif Aslam and Iman Ali for which he won Lux Style Awards and SAARC Film Awards. In 2013, he appeared in Academy Award nominated film Zinda Bhaag opposite Amna Ilyas and Naseeruddin Shah, which was critically and commercially successful.

The movie is directed by Anjum Shehzad who has given us hits like Khuda aur Muhabbat, Talafi, Satrangi, the tarang telefilm ‘Armaan’, Mirat-Ul-Uroos and many more. He has also bagged two Lux Style Awards for best director for ‘Pehla Chand’ and ‘Woh Tees Din’. Anjum has proved his mettle from time to time and we can surely expect excellent direction for this movie.

We can expect to see Fahad Mustafa, Sanam Saeed and Iman Ali in some very promising roles. Sanam is seen in a completely new avatar judging from the stills of the movie. Fahad Mustafa has always done justice to all his roles, and we can expect the same for this movie. Iman Ali has also been preparing for her role since the past three months. We will also get to see a few surprising cameos in the movie. The details of the cast will be made official soon!

There are total five songs in the movie written by Sarmad Sehbai himself. This is purely a Pakistani movie with no outside singer or technicians involved. The movie will completely be shot in Pakistan and high-budgeted and pretty lavish sets have been made in a local studio in Karachi for the movie. The producers of the movie, Badar Ikram and Khurram Rana, are in talks with distributors for the movie. This movie will release sometime next year!

Here are some stills from the movie:

Senior Supporting Actresses

0

A drama is never complete without supporting characters, though they never receive the deserving applause and admiration like the leading characters they are equally talented and gifted. Supporting characters are wide ranging but the ones included in this article are characters of mothers, grandmothers, aunties etc. in short the senior supporting actresses.
Our industry is blessed with many actresses who have aided the industry to flour and prosper. Actresses like Bushra Ansari, Zeba Shehnaz, Saba Hameed, Zaheen Tahira, Tahira Wasti (late), Azra Sherwani (late), Perveen Akbar, Durdana Butt, Badar Khalil and Aisha Khan became associated with the industry at very early stages not only of Pakistan television but also of their lives. Some of the earlier actresses performed leading roles along the way as well however they performed side roles more frequently, ultimately giving us a permanent part of the essential ingredients of a drama. In the journey of drama industry actresses like Azra Aftab, Ismat Zaidi, Jahan Ara Hai, Sabahat Bukhari, Ghazala Javed, Sajida Syed, Seemi Pasha and many others joined the ever growing caravan.

Aangan_terha_azra_sherwani
It is with the help of these side characters that the protagonists appear more strong and well-constructed in a strong knitted plot. The web of supporting characters is usually initiator of complications in the story and helps in resolutions as well. Side characters also broaden the scope of dramas, giving insight to other aspects and scenarios of life imitations. A drawback of side characters can be that at times they are given more importance and space in the drama than the leading characters but it rarely happens. Most of the times these characters are similar giving little or no scope to the artists for utilizing their talents.

203598_136018999817246_1009070_n
Doing the side characters have stamped their fates as mothers, grandmothers etc. Unfortunately most of these characters lack versatility and these actresses are always stuck with same benign, kind and caring or shrewd, cunning, manipulative and at times extremely evil roles. It is highly unjust that they are trapped in the snare of typecast. Though some of the actresses appear to be doing similar roles in every other play, actress like Saba Hameed, Samina Pirzada, Bushra Ansari and Hina Dilpazeer have earned the labels of most versatile actresses of the industry. Lately Nadia Afgan, a relatively young actress, has amazed the audiences with some very good and different performances.

Do share your favorite supporting actresses, the pros and cons of side characters and your views. Saba Hameed, Samina Pirzada, Samina Ahmed are among my favorites.

Kankar – The Finale

0

Everything about this last episode was spot on with the exception of the sudden change in Sikandar’s personality. Arzoo decided to give Sikandar another chance; which basically went to show that every woman is not brave enough to take a stand the way Kiran did. Kiran’s advice to Arzoo was very practical and it was basically a message to all the girls out there who maybe going through a similar situation. Taking a stand and being brave may look very heroic but one must not resort to grave measures unless that person has the courage to face the consequences of such an action.

k1

Sikandar and Kiran’s final meeting had to be the highlight of tonight’s episode. Kiran’s response to Sikandar’s proposal was just what the doctor ordered! Kiran’s mother was never convinced that her daughter had made the right decision but after knowing the truth about the way Sikandar had been treating Arzoo, she was fully convinced that Kiran did the right thing.

k5

Rukhsar’s track was wrapped up nicely. Her apology was honest and so was the way in which Adnan told her the affect her attitude had on his relationship with Kiran. There were times when Kiran doubted herself and thought that maybe she was the one at fault but the way things unfolded in tonight’s episode went to prove that she was right all along. Everything that Faiqa said to Shaista was music to my ears. The part about the way Shaista and Sikandar had made a joke out of Sikandar’s wrong attitude towards his wives was especially true.

k3

Kankar was one of those plays that gradually grew on me, it had a very strong message to convey to the audience but I have to admit that this message could have been conveyed in a more apt manner if the play was not stretched this much. What made Kankar stand out for me was the quality script and the superb acting. Everyone performed really well. Fahad Mustafa especially played a very difficult character very well. It was plain to see that he was really into his character. Sanam Baloch was phenomenal in every single scene. Uroosa Siddiqui is a natural performer, she never gives her viewers anything to complaint about. Hassan Niazi was the perfect choice for playing the role of Adnan. I am definitely looking forward to seeing more Maha Warsi, she has tons of potential. The entire team of actors gave their best performances. The only person whose talent was not exploited to the maximum was Behroze Sabzwari. I always felt that the relationship between Kiran and her father could have been much more meaningful and deep.

Rukhsar said in one of her conversations with Adnan and her mother that Sikandar used to beat Arzoo on regular basis but the viewer’s were given the impression that this was the first time that Sikandar hit Arzoo. I wish someone could have mentioned that Sikandar needed professional help for his condition because without that there is no hope for him.

Did you watch this last installment? Please share your views about it. I would like to thank everyone who followed the reviews and contributed to the discussions week after week….. Thank you so much.

Mahesh Bhatt has been an avid promoter of Indo-Pak relations since many years, and now Bollywood super-star Shahrukh Khan has also expressed his desire to visit Pakistan. Shahrukh has his roots from Pakistan as his father and his family hails from Peshawar. Shahrukh Khan is keen to take his three children to visit his family’s hometown, and wishes that the relation between Pakistan and India improves soon.

He expressed his desire to visit Pakistan when Pakistan’s former foreign minister Hinna Rabbani invited him to Pakistan to an event. He spoke a lot of good things about Peshawar which he had visited once in his teens with his father. He stated:

“My family is from Peshawar and few of them still live there. I would love to come to Peshawar and bring my children over because my father took me when I was 15 or 16. I still have some of the greatest memories of the time I spent with my father in Peshawar, Karachi and Lahore. I want to take my kids there”

Shahrukh Khan was born and raised in Delhi but his father, Taj Mohammad Khan came from Peshawar and was a freedom fighter. Shahrukh wants to bring his three kids, Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam to Pakistan to make them familiar with their roots.

“I hope with whatever issues and stresses we have… I hope we become friends, we become friendlier, we become like a family and one together.” said Shahrukh Khan.

He is a promoter of good relations between Pakistan and India and hopes that both the countries keep their culture differences aside and join hands. He further added:

“When I travel abroad, I notice it [cultural differences] even more, because sitting in your nation you can’t make out. But when I go to London, Dubai or US, you don’t even get to know who is from where – there’s no cultural difference. I think people should forget and continue to be what we used to be”

Another keen promoter of Indo-Pak relations is the popular Bollywood Director Mahesh Bhatt who has also made it a point to promote the talent in Pakistan by giving them a chance in Bollywood. Imran Abbas Naqvi, Sara Loren and Meera all have debuted in Bollywood through his movies along with many other singers.

Recently, he announced that he is going to produce a theatre play with actors from both India and Pakistan. The theatre play is named ‘Milne Do’. According to reports, ‘it will be an intense love story between two individuals from across the borders, and aims at promoting peace.’

Indian Actor Imran Zahid will be playing the male lead along with a female lead from Pakistan. The actors will perform live in cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.

Sharing his feelings regarding the promotion of peace between the two countries, Bhatt said, “I have always maintained that a movie or a play can be a greater vehicle of peace than all the lectures we give. Any message, if communicated through storytelling, touches a chord. This play will be an emotional transaction between industries on both sides.”

It is good to know that famous Bollywood personalities are keen to develop good relations with Pakistan!

The overall nominations are justified as they have given importance to shows from all channels. Underrated shows like Talkiyaan, Tamanna, Gohar-e-Nayab and Meri Saheli Meri Hamjoli are given recognition. There are, however, a few surprising things here and there too. It is surprising to see Waar not nominated this year since it is the highest grossing Pakistani movie ever. Also, in the theatre category the biggest play of the year, Dhaani (Featuring Sanam Saeed and Sarwat Gillani) is not nominated. In the best actress category, Sanam Saeed is nominated for Talkhiyaan and not Zindagi Gulzar Hai, very surprising indeed! They have also included the OST of Asmanon Pay Likha which is turning out to be the biggest show of 2013. In the makeup artist category, they have not nominated the most popular makeup artists; Natasha and Sabrina from Natasha Salon. It is also shocking to see Nida Yasir’s not been nominated for her morning show.

The public poll is still open. Everyone can vote for their favorite artists here:

Advertisements showing Pakistani Woman’s Role

0

Nowadays Pakistani commercials on TV have increased so much that a one hour show has approximately a half hour commercials. People watch commercials as a time pass and that is why they are very concerned about them as well. In this article I will be focusing on the quality of the content on which most of the advertisements are based. In most Pakistani ads women are shown as deprived and complexed. I am again highlighting the point that I am focusing on most of the ads not all of them. The focus of my article will be on the advertisements showing women’s role in the society.

                                 Habib-Print-Ad

In most of the ads, women are shown as suppressed and tired. They are shown doing the household chores and working around the house like a machine. Most of the ads focus on making the women more beautiful. The anti aging creams, hair dyes, shampoos, soaps and fairness creams. Is this what a Pakistani woman is all about? The ads show the women worrying all the time about their family’s health. Is this really a true reflection? Pakistani women are careful about their families and they are also conscious about their beauty but this is not all. They are much more than this.

A woman of Pakistan is confident, bold and empowered. They are excelling in almost every other field. May it be banking, medicine, media, international relations or military, the women of Pakistan have proven themselves everywhere. Apart from this the concept of a joint family is also fading in Pakistan day by day. People are starting to make their families nuclear. Women are as independent as men. But as far as our ads are concerned, they do not focus on the successful women in our country. All they focus on is the beauty tips that our women need. They aim to make every women in Pakistan like Katrina Kaif which is definitely not possible because the women of Pakistan are much much more better than that. Only in some hand wash ads, women are shown as Doctors otherwise in each ad either the woman is a wife or a model. There is no ad that focuses on a woman in a corporate environment except some rare commercials of ufone.

images

Most cooking oils, soaps and washing powders show the negative attitude of mother in laws towards the women. This is actually what is being portrayed about our women. They are portrayed as weak, and helpless people who work day and night to give love and care to the family. Yes, women of Pakistan do strive very hard to keep everyone happy but we are a lot more than this. We know how to juggle up out responsibilities. We can even continue studies, work at an office and do the house chores simultaneously. There are many young girls in Pakistan who are students but they still take out time for online jobs or internships in companies and the house chores. I am myself a student and I also work online. Why is this not shown in the TV ads? Why women are always seemed to be kept in the four walls?

426305_189955861107930_145536142216569_217538_1542275472_n

There are some ads that need to be appreciated. Those which show a positive image of the women of Pakistan, Aquafina shows Mahira Khan studying for her exams and her mother comes to give her some blessings. Apart from this Nesvita ads are also in the favor of women. Moreover we had an ad of Mobilink which had a Pakistani athlete Naseem Ahmad in it. Tapal tea has also shown good ads like the one in which the daughter convinces her father to let her work in a company. My point is that advertisements should be meaningful. They should not only portray a positive image but they should also be motivating for others.

Advertisers should stop this male chauvinism and come up with new, fresh and innovative ideas. These ideas should not only promote our culture but also our thinking. We should break this stereotype that in Pakistan all the women are Gharailu type. We are multi-talented. This is what we need to show. We can do every possible thing and we do not lack at any point. Advertising agencies should hire new and fresh minded creative directors. These directors should stop focusing on the beauty of the girls and their personal stuff like hair removing creams etc.. instead they should think about the talent those girls possess. Only in this way they can show the truth and produce advertisements showing women’s role in the society based on the reality.

Mahira Khan Makes a Comeback On HUM TV-See Promo here!

0

Here comes the most awaited news for Mahira Khan’s fans. The lady, who made the Pakistani audience go crazy for her role as Khirad in Humsafar, is now all set to make a comeback on HUM TV, this time really differently.

1464700_658947107458789_173826591_n

The promos of this untitled talk show are now on-air on the channel where Mahira Khan is seen as a host who will now be landing on the sets of different dramas and will share the real stories behind the screen. It seems more like a talk show which holds a similar shade of that of ‘Koffee with Karan’ where popular celebrities will spend some of their time, sharing their thick and thins with the audience.

This is not the first time that Mahira will be seen as a host as this is what she actually started with. Being a VJ initially, Mahira is known for her hosting skills anyway.

Watch the promo here:

Mahira Khan basically got noticed for her spectacular hits including Movie Bol and dramas like Neeyat, Humsafar and Shehrezaat. The actress will also be seen in an upcoming drama serial Bin Roye Ansu, starring Humayun Saeed, Armeena Rana, and Mahira Khan.

Let us see how far this new success strategy works for the channel, but there is one thing for sure that the news is warmly welcomed by her fans who are waiting for this show to air soon.

All for now,

Wishes

Adapted Dramas

0

Lately adaptations of novels as drama or film have become a popular trend. Viewers do appreciate these adaptations but unfortunately it doesn’t go very well with the readers who most of the times find the adaptations unsatisfactory. Adapting a novel into drama isn’t new in Pakistani Drama Industry, super hit dramas like Khuda ki Basti, Bhandan and Aag were adaptations.

Khuda-Ke-Basti
Most of the recent adaptations have been mediocre or complete disasters; there have been some good adaptations as well. Dastaan, Darbar e Dil, Man o Salwa, Doraha, Talkhiyaan, Humsafar, Aunn Zara and Meri Zaat Zara e Benishan are examples of rather good adaptations. Sadly wonderful novels like Ambar Bail and Jo Chalay to Jaan se Guzar gai turned out to be disasters, especially the former which have been dramatized twice failed to impress the audience both times. All of the adaptations might not be up to the mark or super hits like the novels but these adaptations have increased the quality of dramas as compared to the dramas of few years ago. It is up to the writers; be novelists or original playwrights to bring new and engaging topics on the front.

drama-pic-580x240
These adaptations at times offer nothing new; they seem mere repetitions of timeworn predictable stories and plots (novels published in digests are somehow predictable or formula novels, at least majority of them). One of the main factors rooting disinterestedness in adapted dramas can be having already read those novels (being an avid reader I’m never satisfied with the adaptations). But this is not always the case, sometimes the scenes turn out more engaging in dramas than in novels. Another factor for mediocre dramas is unrequired omissions and additions. The dramas are needlessly stretched; viewers resultantly lose interest resultantly. Inappropriate choice of actors can also result in a disaster drama as happened in Amar Bail.

Despite all objections and reservations I desperately look forward to adapted dramas. The only adaptions (which I have watched) I found better than the novels were A Walk to Remember and Stardust. Do share your opinion, your choice; what do you prefer, the novels or adaptations. For me it is always novels.

Insight – Sohai Ali Abro

0

This year we have seen many youngsters making their way in the Pakistani Drama Industry. One of such talented actress is “SOHAI ALI ABRO”. The multi-talented actress has been able to successfully prove herself in different roles in Pakistani Dramas. She is not just an actress but a model and a dancer as well. 1994 Born young actress has played as lead character in many popular dramas.

Sohai made her film debut with a supporting role in the 2013 romantic drama Yasir Nawaz’s Anjuman, a critical and commercial success. Her performance won wide critical acclaim, earning a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category at Tarang Housefull Awards. Sohai started her career as a Model. She has appeared in many commercials such as Shan Pickle, Coca Cola, Mobilink and Pepsi.

Sohai made her acting debut with Geo TV serial Saat Pardon Mein opposite Mikaal Zulfiqar and Alyy Khan. Later she performed dance on ARY Digital’s reality show, Naach. She also did a Telefilm Rangraiz Meray aired on Hum TV. She then appeared in serial Tanhai opposite Goher Mumtaz, Ayesha Omar, Azfar Rehman, Saba Hameed and Arisha Razi airing on Hum TV and Kyun Hai Tu opposite Mikaal Zulfiqar and Neelam Muneer aired on Geo Kahani. She is currently seen in Hum TV serial Khoya Khoya Chand opposite Ahsan Khan, Maya Ali and Rishte Kuch Adhore se opposite Yumna Zaidi and Mehmood Aslam.

Untitled

Sohai Ali Abro has been widely acknowledged by people for her acting in her drama Saat Pardon Main

Just recently when she was interviewed and asked about her the kinds of role she is interested to work in, she said:

“I had been getting very decent offers of acting since the past two years. The only reason I didn’t do such dramas was that I wanted an interesting story along with a good role“

A young actor with so clear motives, she will definitely go a long way. She is very clear about the roles which she chooses. She knows where to work, where not to work, with whom to work & with whom not to work. These intelligent traits of her personality will help her out in getting better roles.

She is beautiful yet intelligent. She is poised yet careful. She is brilliant yet bubbly. And there are many other attributes of her personality which are admired by her followers/viewers. A poll was carried out on social media forum and it also highlighted that Sohai is one of the most successful faces of Pakistan drama industry.

It is not out-of-place to mention here that her latest fashion photoshoot got extremely popular. As a model, she has achieved great appreciation as well. Some critics said that she is not tall enough unlike veteran models to get herself fit in the fashion industry as a model but at the same time, her appreciators also say that she give enticing face expressions which trait overshadows her weaknesses. This is something very positive for her. She can flourish in both acting as well as in the modeling industry. But who will be the ultimate decider ? Lets keep that on the time ahead.

Also side by side, she is currently working on polishing her acting skills.Since she was a professional dancer in the earlier years of her professional career in the Pakistani Media Industry therefore she had to struggle on her acting skills when she entered the drama industry. Whether she played the role of a mother in “Tanhaye” or a young serious lady in her recent drama “Rishty Adhory se”, she did exceptionally well in both of them as per the demands of the director. Even her critics have now become her appreciators.

All of us wish her a very best of luck and hope that things turn out spectacular for her in the coming future.

Don’t forget to comment below, how did you find Sohai Ali Abro with her acting. If you have any suggestions for her you may drop in the comment box that as well

Ishq Main Tere – Episode 2.

0

Ohkay, so this was another week of a smooth paced episode. The story seems to be progressing appropriately along with a great direction so far. Nothing seems over the top & everything is pretty well balanced.

Even though it may come across as a predictable plot, it still is appeasing to watch because there are as such no completely & insanely negative characters. Aiza’s bhabhi does fill a space of that sort at times but she still shows compassion towards her when she finds her working really hard to earn the bread of the house. Aiza’s brother is definitely a spoiled one who loves to depend on his sister. Though I do really find Aiza’s personality to good to be amongst her family because she is unrealistically different & doesn’t embody any of the characterisistics similar to her brother. If she came from a lower middle class BUT a decent family background, it would’ve been a bit more appropriate looking at how Aiza herself is but seeing her family background, she is too good to be a part of them.

Her bhabhi at first wanted to get rid of her unmarried nand Aiza but after she found herself a job, she thinks it is a better idea to be benefitted from her earnings. The whole rishta scene was another reality nicely spurn into the situation because there are like a million girls out there who deserve better spouses but get married to guys rather uncles below their caliber just because of the family pressure. I am glad Aiza endured but undid the pressure.

Aiza has quite clearly understood that nothing was going to happen by the money she was earning through tutoring therefore she found herself completely lucky to have Laiba around. She discussed her issue with her & Laiba swooped in like some wish granting fairy. Even though Aiza had Laiba’s reference yet Saad found her promising, I am assuming his love at first sight feelings must be another case why Aiza easily got a job, but on her own, she promised to be working hard & seems like she has started to prove it too.

Laiba continues to like Saad a lot but Saad has made it quite clear to his mother about how he doesn’t want to get married to Laiba because to him she is just like a baby sister & buddy who he has shared a home & life with, which seems rightly justified too. Laiba is such a nice character but poor girl would face a heart-break soon.

Preview of the next episode seemed really interesting because Saad’s mom has tried to convince Laiba’s father of getting married & for that I am sure his first choice would be Aiza. Saad seems to be going through some illness which later on will be revealed but so far the drama seems good. I am glad about the direction too because nothing is too overly emphasized & everything seems perfect. Glad to have found a decent play to fill our Wednesdays.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

What most Pakistani dramas teach us

0

First of all, before you shoot me down or label me which I cannot get off,I am a lover of Pakistani Dramas and I love and cherish them and this article has been written solely to make drama makers realize some important things

1- Everyone in this world is too bad for words. There is no such thing as goodness in any human you come across.Try insects or birds or Martians from Mars, they might have some goodness or better still go to a museum to find the ‘preserved goodness that was once there in humans’.I am talking about the time before the advent of private entertainment channels in Pakistan.O God, what a luxury called ‘goodness of humans’ we had then.

2- You sister is your worst enemy girls. If you have a sister poison her ‘roti’ or ‘macaroni’ whatever she likes at the first possible opportunity or give wrong eye drops to her so that she better not dare look at your love interest. You can also try forcing her into a plane leaving for Somalia or Yemen.

sister's rivalry

3- A woman’s in-laws are the worst possible people on earth. They should better be turned into frogs with the wave of a magic wand and left in some local ‘mineral water pond’.Mean, nasty and cruel creatures, even Dracula would look better in front of them.Good in-laws – a specie as extent as the dinosaurs.

4- A woman’s only job in this world is to cry and sacrifice.Sacrifice and cry.Cry and sacrifice. Can’t a woman do something else? For heavens sake, you want to ruin our ratings!

5- Rich girls fall for poor guys and poor girls fall for rich guys.Their own class,no way! This creates a lot of entertainment for them in terms of squeaking, wailing and threatening parents and later in-laws.More fun comes in the shape of schemes and plots that parents and in-laws come up with. Now this ‘facility’ cannot be enjoyed if you marry within your own class, right?

kabhi

6- Poor girls are after riches and money only. They would marry a tree if money grows on it and would continue to pluck the delicious notes all their lives. The saliva of poor girls come out the moment they see a rich guy and they ruin themselves in trying to hook themselves to rich guys.

7- The strictness of the parents especially the father is directly proportional to the number of affairs the daughters would have. For those not-so-intelligent like me,the more strict the father is,more is the number of affairs the daughters have. The drama writers and makers have made it what we used to call in school ‘a universal truth’.Don’t you dare challenge it!

8- Step mothers are evil reincarnated. They have no heart (how they breath then remains a mystery) but its true. They drive their energy from destroying the lives of their step children and the pain and misery of their step children is Energy Drink for them. The tongues of these step mothers are as long as the great wall of china and some of them have rods and sticks with them also.

ihgm

9- Every wedding has to be loud with weird characters roaming around trying to act funny.A loud mouthed aunty is sure to be among one of the characters while opposition to the wedding is also essential as it creates the necessary ‘tarka’ or the icing on the cake. That’s the way every wedding should be,no?

10- Women shouldn’t be doing jobs,it makes other women sneak into their house and take their men!High number of females doing jobs these days,oh never mind! They are outliers that we don’t consider while calculating average.A woman belongs to the house, stepping out of the house is sure shot recipe of affair and possible marriage by her husband.

Who is behind Deepika Padukone’s beautiful look in Ram-leela ?

0

Sanjay Leela Bhansali enhances the beauty of his actresses by choosing for them the most beautiful traditional clothes. This not only adds to the beauty of the actresses but also to the beauty of the characters in his films. From “Hum Dil Dey Chukay Sanam” to “Ram-leela” we have seen his interest in being very particular about the dressing of his film’s characters. In “Hum Dil Dey Chukay Sanam” you must have noticed the beautiful “Shararas” & “Ghagra-cholies” of Aishwariya Rai. And he carried on the same trend in “Devdas” and now in “Ram – Leela” as well.

Though this was the first time when Sanjay was working with Deepika but he already had in his mind the picture of his film’s character. He knew that there was not a single actress that can play this role as perfectly as deepika can. He is a great-appreciator of Deepika’s beauty and her way of carrying clothes. Aishwariya Rai also shared with her this attribute.

Here is a glimpse from his latest film:

Untitled

Dressed by Anju Modi in this film, Deepika’s embroidered and zari-embellished lehenga-choli outfits show off her slim waist, that delicious curve of her back and, when she spins around doing her garba moves, her long legs. All the heroine’s exquisite costumes in the film have been designed by Anju Modi, who has been a part of the Indian fashion industry for many years now. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s new movie is Anju’s first Bollywood project and she has managed to make the very photogenic Deepika look exquisite on-screen.

When Anju was asked what briefing Sanjay gave her to design costumes for her film’s lady, she said:

“First, we all know about Sanjay’s passion for costumes and the kind of detailing he does in them. I was naturally quite excited about the whole thing. He is a man of his word and doesn’t really restrain or strain himself too much. He said this is the theme, use your creativity, and go over the top if you want, but don’t restrain yourself. He gave me the script, which was the brief initially”

The film is set against the backdrop of Kutch. This flavour is kept intact and yet given a contemporary touch to the outfits by Anju. The dresses are designed according to the colors and creations of the film. The designer says:

“It was very categorically designed, well conceived, and the script was ready. So we knew that after scene one, scene two is coming and then scene three, four and so on. So when the garments were getting ready, we would place them on a hand rack and give them to Deepika. There’s a scene where she’ll be playing Holi, so we thought, let’s not do a typical white outfit. Why not give her a red on red with tinges of white and not all white? We wanted to be different from what has been done till now. Then scene-wise we were discussing things and realised that we hadn’t used ochre yellow yet, which is very much Deepika’s colour, so we designed a yellow outfit. We were carrying on scene by scene.”

For all those who love to dress traditional, let me tell you ladies that there was an Indian trendy costume designed for Deepika which weighted 30kgs and had a ghera of 50 meters designed by the talented Anju itself and it took 1 months to get done with it. On this anju said:

“Everything took ten days, 20 days, 30 days. The minute one costume was done, the second was started. This particular costume weighs so much because of the flare. First, Deepika is tall. Second, the outfit is longer than her height because it’s falling on the guns. The ghera itself is cotton gauze mulmul with a silk border and silver work printing. All these things add to the weight. Since we’re giving so much flare, automatically the weight increases”

This was all for those who are very curious about Deepika’s beautiful looks in her very latest film Ram-Leela. So now you all know how Anju’s spectacular designs added value to the leela of SLB.

Don’t forget to comment underneath on how beautiful Leela (Deepika) appeared to you.

Cheers!

Are Looks More Important Than Talent?

0

There has been an ongoing discussion on this forum about who is underrated and who is overrated. Why is it that so many of the actors who are very talented are not given as much appreciation as they should be getting? Why is it that Fawad Khan’s plays manage to grab the attention of the viewers even if they are mediocre but a talented actor like Faisal Qureshi who has been in the industry for much more time does not get that much attention. Sure, he has a vey good standing in the industry but viewers do not wait for his plays or follow him like they follow Fawad Khan. Also, the producers and channels do not promote Faisal Qureshi or other talented actors the way they promote Fawad Khan.

fqfeature image

Similarly, a versatile actress like Sanam Baloch does not get the kind of attention that a newcomer like Mahira Khan or even Sanam Jung gets. Sanam Baloch is good looking no doubt but she is not stylish like Mahira Khan or Sanam Jung. Which makes me think that do looks count more than talent? Most people are very visual by nature, a face that appeals to them is more likely to get their attention even if the actor is not very talented. Our producers make the most of this weakness and try to groom boys and girl with good looks to work in the dramas.

sanam ahira

Most recent example is that of Kanza Wyne in the drama serial Numm. She has a very pretty face but she cannot act to save her life. Mostly people can easily see through the good looks and tell that she requires a lot practice before she can pass as a good actress. On the other hand, the newcomer Sanam Jung was an instant hit with the viewers because she is not just a pretty face. Same was the case with Arij Fatima as well, the audience accepted her immediately. Her acting has always been praised.

arij

There is no doubt that people like to see actors and actresses on screen who are good looking but the fact is that good looks without talent do not leave a very lasting impression on the viewers. Good looks may count a lot as far as modeling is concerned but when it comes to dramas, people look for talent. Artists who are blessed with good looks, style and talent clean sweep the ones who many not have the whole package. Good looks are an extra advantage but good looks without talent will not take an actor far.

Viewers also get more attracted to actors and actresses who are glamorous and have the X factor. It also depends on how hard an actor works to promote his image.

What is your opinion? Are some of our talented actors and actresses underrated because they are not stylish or glamorous enough? or is it because the channels and production houses do not promote them as much as they promote others?

Mere Humrahi Episode 17 – The Accusations!

0

This was one fast paced episode, all the twists and turns came one after the other and kept everyone at the edge of their seats. I knew that Ahad will announce that he and Haaniyah were still together, but I really did not expect him to put such disgusting accusations on her in this way.

Ahad had used cheap tactics since the beginning so I did not expect much for him, but the most disappointing character for me was Ahmed. I was so disappointed to see him doubting Haaniyah when he checked her phone and saw that Ahad had called her. The seed of doubt was planted which made him restless, and he remembered all the past scenes where he had seen both of them together. He had never doubted her before, even in the initial days of their marriage when he saw Ahad calling Haaniyah. He trusted her at that time, then how could he doubt her now? Especially when she had changed so much, and their family was about to be complete.

‘Main Ap Se Bohat Pyaar Karti Hoon, Itna Ke Mein Apko Bata Bhi Nahi Sakhti’

‘Sachi?’

‘Apko Koi Shaq Hai?’

Ahmed needed the assurance that Haaniyah still loved him, and once he got to hear this from her, he tried to forget about whatever he was thinking before. Once again, I loved all their adorable scenes in the episode. The way he complimented her, when she got dressed for the small gathering that had been arranged for her, brought a huge smile to my face. Watching Ahmed chose the earrings for her and then also putting it on her was just like a cherry on top for me! So folks, this was the end of their romantic track for the time being because after the accusations that Ahad had put on her, we would not get to see Ahmed and Haaniyah together for a long time.

Ahad put the accusations on Haaniyah, and EVERYBODY in his family believed him and not Haaniyah. Her mother-in-law has always sided with Ahad, and it did not take much time to start blaming Haaniyah too. Zehra also did not side with Haaniyah who was Haaniyah’s last hope since she was the only one who knew the truth about Ahad. Oh, and of course Samina had to open her big mouth to add fuel to the fire. Ahmed already had doubts in his mind and he quickly believed his family and blamed Haaniyah too.

‘Mujhe Pata Tha Ke Koi Mujh Per Yaqeen Kare Ya Na Kare, Ap Mujh Per Yaqeen Zarur Karenge’

Haaniyah had such high hopes from Ahmed and she did not care about the accusations as long as Ahmed believed her, but he disappointed her by believing Ahad and his family. But what really shattered her were the harsh words that came out of Ahmed’s mouth after this.

‘Meine Ehsaan Kiya Tha Tum Per, Aur Tumhare Poore Khandaan Per Tum Se Shaadi Karke’

This was the last straw for Haaniyah and she completely broke down after hearing this. Ahmed spoke these words only in anger; he had never thought that he had done a huge favor on Haaniyah and her family, but Haaniyah was hurt by her words and left immediately with her parents.

I do not get one thing, if Ahmed and his parents thought that Haaniyah had been cheating everyone all this time, then wasn’t it the same case with Ahad? He had also betrayed his family and especially his brother if everyone believed what he was saying was true. Nobody was blaming or accusing him of anything! Why? Ahad’s father was the only person who blamed him for what he had done and that too in the end.

The preview of the next episode looks pretty interesting. Ahad had the guts to ask his mother to get him and Haaniyah married! Doesn’t he understand that Haaniyah would never marry him?

Do share your lovely opinion about the episode this week!

Till Next Week!

Being Fashionable

0

How many of us believe on the first impression? In my opinion almost all of us do so. A first impression is something that defines a whole new concept of a person’s personality. There is a saying that one should never judge a book by its cover but no one actually believes on this saying. This is the reason why people nowadays like to be trendy and fashionable. In this article I will focus on the ways a person can choose for being fashionable and trendy along with comfort. Fashion is marketed in such a way that one is compelled to ‘attain a certain look’. Many women have negative self-images if they don’t look or dress up to the ideals of the high fashion world…this could be due to weight/body type, hairstyles, make-up, jewelry, shoes, handbags, perfumes, wrinkle creams, and so on. Reading fashion magazines and going through different catalogues can help in developing a great dressing sense in people. This is the reason why every shop and almost every outlet has magazines for their customers. These magazines not only create a good dressing sense but they also give an idea of the service the outlet provides to the customers.
Fashionable-1

People should also be up to date. They must know what is popular and what is not. This can be done through watching television programs based on fashion and also by going through websites. Being fashionable and trendy is not only based on following the trends but it is also based on the way u carry the trend. Anyone who wears a mini skirt can not look pretty until or unless she doesn’t have the confidence to carry it. If you have the confidence required to carry attire then you will look outstanding even if you are wearing normal pajamas. Red lip color is often said to be perfect for fair complexions but I have myself seen girls with a brown complexion wearing red lip color with so much confidence that it looked astonishing.

Apart from this every person must know how to dress according to their body type. There are some things that do not suit the people of a specific body type. This is why when the wrong trend is matched with the wrong body type then everything gets completely damaged. It becomes a mess which is not easy to handle. This rule goes for each and every individual out there. Being fashionable also means looking for what suits you the best. For example if a fat legged girl wears skinny jeans, she will look odd. The same goes for other girls as well. Try to buy something that you find comfortable for yourself. If you do not think that scarves or bandanas will suit you then try an alternative. Do not go for them. Comfort comes first. Moreover try to be unique; copying others will not make you fashionable. Being fashionable means to be completely unique and satisfied with what you are wearing.

 images

While shopping, it is necessary to know your needs. Try to buy something that is good in quality and will last for long. If you buy good quality stuff that lasts for long then that’s better then buying something cheap that wears off the next day. Do not compromise on quality and make a good choice while shopping. Try to buy bags and accessories of neutral colors so that they can get along with all of your dresses. Look up to people who you think are fashionable. Being fashionable is having an idol that is perfect for you. Another trick is that, try to mix and match your own clothes and create something creative out of it. Bringing changes to your everyday get up can also make you look fashionable. Being fashionable also depends on the choice of an individual. It is necessary to dress according to the occasion. One can definitely not wear a summer dress in winters and a coat in summers. This will look hilarious.

shopping2
Trendily dressed people tend to attract more positive attention. Dressing age appropriately causes people to respect you more. People who are not dressed age appropriately tend to attract scorn and ridicule. The most important part of being fashionable is to be yourself. Being who you are is the essential component. Losing your identity while copying others is a big failure. Those who enjoy fashion consider it a form of art. These were some important ways of being fashionable. Try following them in your daily life and things will change for sure.

Pyarai Afzal – Episode 1 & 2

0

Yet another addition to the masterpieces of Ary Digital is Pyarai Afzal, started a week back.Star cast of the show includes Hamza Ali Abbasi, Aiza Khan, Sana Javaid,Saba Hameed and Firdous Jamal. Its a Six sigma production which is directed by Nadeem Baig. Whereas, Khalil ur Rehman Qamar is the writer of the serial. Now that we are done with formal intro, lets start with the story of the show.

4

Afzal SubhaanAllah(Hamza Ali) is one of the children of Maulvi SubhaanAllah(Firdous Jamal); he is a gambler and loves to fritter his time by playing cricket for the sake of winning cash but owns a heart of gold. I can say that because he never  let his instinct die; he is among those who are subah k bhoolai jo shaam ko waapis ghar aa saktay hain.Having a secret girl friend, disclosing her letters details infront of friends, lying to your sister and gambling are all specs of being a “Subah Ka Bhoola” but avoiding to share her personal info, taking special care to not lie while passing by a Mosque, getting worried when your parents are not happy with you and respecting all the girls around when everyone else stare at them with disrespect are aspects of those who have margin of becoming well-being, no matter how much time it takes.

6

Afzal’s sister is one of those sisters who loves their siblings, never want to lose them and always there for them whenever they need her; she is portrayed as strong-willed yet concerned sister who always want her family to stay united.
Lively,friendly,fun-loving and most important of all “beauty” are the traits of none other than two sisters  Farah Ibrahim(Aiza Khan) and Lubna Ibarhim(Sana Javaid). Farah lives in a fantasy world of her own and dreams for a guy who is well educated,self-made and confident. Inshort, she desires for a perfect husband.

2

3

Mehtab Chawla (Umer Naru) was the guy this time whose proposal came and rejected after being accepted by Farah. As soon as Farah came to know that he is a raees zaada and all he can do is just to spend his father income, she refused to marry him.But before declaring the refusal, Lubna  gave her the news that her wedding date has been fixed. And now Farah want all this fuss to come to an end,by hook or by crook.Umer Naru’s(Last seen in Miraat ul Uroos as Faraan) acting, dialogue delivery, expressions and overall appearance with which he came up in this serial makes his character much more interesting and entertaining to watch. Hats off to his dialogues in today’s episode; We went through series of laughter therapy sessions today.

A couple of times Farah and Afzal came across each other till now and I can see that spark in their eyes. Now coming towards Afzal again, Maulvi Saheb came to know about Afzal’s ongoing affairs in which he was involved and for that he,after a meeting with his son, decided to leave his house because according to him, good and evil can’t stay together. As soon as his father decided to leave, Afzal pledged for mercy and decided to be a good boy from now on :) .I loved each and every bit of those Afzal family scenes; they were full of emotions, touchy and contained an awww factor in them.

Ranjish Hi Sahi – Episode 6

0

There is a certain serenity about the overall feel of this play which I find very charming. Everything is shown in a simple yet beautiful way. The picture quality of the play definitely is something worth raving about and the conversations are very meaningful. Ranjish Hi Sahi does not bank on twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat but it still manages to hold your attention. The best thing about this play is that the relationship between different characters is very normal; there are no misunderstandings that take weeks to get sorted and no dark secrets that have not been revealed yet. I was expecting Arsal to propose Hiba but the way he proposed Tooba was very honest. However, things will be taking an ugly turn in the upcoming episodes since Bilquess Kamal is not going to sit back and watch this love story end happily. Bilquees Kamal may have a confrontational exterior but one can’t help but feel for her character. Saba Hameed has captured the different shades of Bilquees’ personality beautifully.

I have praised the writer of the show many times before but every time I watch a new episode I can’t help but appreciate her more. The dialogues are like a breath of fresh air; they are short, to the point and very meaningful too. The conversations between Kamal Hassan and Yumna in particular have been penned down in such a way that their romance does not come across as cheesy at all. The writer has also put in a great deal of thought into the way the story is progressing. Although, things do not unwind quickly in this play but every episode has something new to offer. Slow and steady is the correct way to explain the pace of the drama.

rhs4
I was expecting Hiba to have a complete change of heart after her mother had a heart attack but her reaction was portrayed perfectly. It is impossible for anyone to change overnight. Hiba maybe putting up a show for her mother but Yumna knows only too well that she is still not very comfortable with the way things are. The conversation between Hiba and Yumna at bedtime was a bit too long other than that all the scenes were relevant and short.

rhs2
The viewers found out more about Kamal’s sons today and the kind of relationship they have with their father. I really enjoyed this particular conversation. Every episode till now has given us a glimpse into the lives of different characters. It is almost as if we are still getting to know all the different aspects of their personalities. Kamal stayed by Yumna’s side, he did not let Bilquees’ threats get in the way.

rhs8
The preview of the next episode showed that there are going to be some serious repercussions of Yumna’s relationship with Kamal. Will she yield to all the pressure or will she go ahead and marry Kamal?

Mujhe Khuda Pe Yakeen Hai – Episode 17.

Statutory Warning: This episode was solely for those viewers who had missed Episode 07 of this drama serial, therefore, it only had the flashbacks along with certain insensible details which may force you to smote yourself, so aggar appne appko maaar maar k tabiyat ziyada kharab ho gai ho to Doctor se rujooh karain!

Arham apparently claimed in front of his roti surat wife that he finds it REALLY hard to recall & speak about what has happened in the past & for that reason I am wondering if it was THIS difficult for him, he is still whinging about it constantly SO IF it was easier, how much would’ve he spoken about it. Is it just me who feels like smacking Sarah every single time she opens her mouth? She goes around saying Areeba should ask Arham what had happened that night, as if she was on a holiday & was not present in the house for which she can’t give details to Areeba about it & Areeba who’s blessed with a 0 IQ agrees & still asks Arham about it as if he has NEVER ever spoken about it with her before.

Areeba was annoying, is annoying & will be annoying & that’s for sure. When she came to this house, she was a curious cow & even after Arham has told her every single deet, she is still curious. I am wondering what will satisfy her curiosity. I think is ghar mai rooms k darwazay band karne ka riwaaj nahi hai, therefore, every single person can hear what the others are talking about.

I think I’ve fallen in love with this drama SO MUCH that even before the conversations begin, I know what they are going to be talking about. If Arham & Narmeen are in the picture, it would start off with Arham’s shaving techniques followed by a conversation about Arham being guilty about making Shakeel uncle completely insane. If Arham & Areeba are discussing something, it would ONLY be focusing on Arham’s whinging & crying & whining making him look like a little baby who needs a NAPPY change. If Narmeen is speaking to her evil-mama it would be about miyan ko kabu karne k 101 tareeqay & if Narmeen is in a conversation with Shaiq…it would most likely make you yawn because of Shaiq’s awazar shakal.

I thought they had revealed every thing about the Gunnah night but wow, they caught me off-guard when they poured in some more details thinking we’d be interested by now!?!?!?! But no matter what I am in love with their Naukrani & her wawela, she looked so cute while panting that I wanted to hug her & tell her that you’re the ONLY one in this show who’s doing things right!

Nightmare Narmeen is actually having nightmares herself & while she was having nightmares in a middle of a night, Areeba & Arham had a conversation in a bright daylight about what happened previously, Sarah & Areeba had a conversation too to fix the tension, their Pupho died & Shaiq went & came back from the airport, Shaiq’s Ammi got the ticket as well (just like the kaam-wali got medical reports & NGO workers at Fajr time), yes all this happened while Narmeen was asleep. I am wondering was her night equal to a light-year or what? She dreaded someone was choking her to death, which I wish someone would!

Preview of the next episode doesn’t disappoint us because it is still going to be as unreasonable as the previous episodes have been, so phew! that’s a relief man. Even after Shaiq has heard about Narmeen being guilty & confessing in front of her evil-mama, he’s still telling Arham to stay away from his wife. Shaiq you need to make up your mind on who do you support dude or else please continue to be like a ‘din ka chimgadarh’ as mentioned by you, about yourself in Shehr-e-Zaat.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Challenging Stereotypes

0

Playwrights in Pakistan generally follow some preconceived notions and ideologies. They are chained in certain ideologies and whoever tries to break through those ideologies face lots of criticism. Pakistani media has gained independence in the last decade which has given liberties to the writers as well. Prior to that writers weren’t allowed to write openly, to choose certain taboo topics or challenge the stereotypes or ideologies clearly defined by the society and culture. But now the question arises is that since the writers have also gained certain liberties are they using their pen aptly to challenge those notions and stereotypes.

aisha-khan-in-zip-bus-chup-raho-drama-1But there is and should be a distinction between taboo topics and vulgarity. It is totally upon the writers how they broach the subject; their ability makes all the difference. Sadly our writers fail to see this and produce dramas like “Zip”, “Qudosi Sahab ki Bewah” and “Mohabbat Jaye Bhar Mein”. There are some writers who occasionally try to question the stereotypes but discussing them will require a separate article; one of the examples of such characters is Kiran (Kankar) and though some people appreciated her character but mostly it was subjected to criticism.

Despite all the liberties writers are still stuck with old topics and stereotypes. The female characters are either essentially negative or positive; writers rarely present forth balanced characters that can be good with some bad characteristics or vice versa e.g. an extremely evil saas and extremely masoom n mazloom bahu (e.g. Ek Tamana Lahasil si, kabi kabi). Dramas now lack originality, if a drama becomes popular all dramatists start following the story and theme blindly, hence end result is dishonesty; not only with their profession but with the viewers as well. For instance the sister rivalries, prejudiced maulvis (I have hardly seen a balanced maulvi character, they are always prejudiced, lacking in actual knowledge, unfit fathers and husbands) etc. have become the rage in the last few years. Honestly this should end now; the viewers are more than fed up of all these repetitive themes which offer nothing new.

Some writers have produced very unique and unforgettable characters. Faiza Iftikhar is among such writers who have given us dramas like Roag, Bilquees Kaur and Aunn Zara. On one hand she has portrayed gravely serious topics and characters and on the other is a lighthearted, perhaps the most entertaining drama of the season. But her lighthearted dramas like Aunn Zara and Akbari Asghari also had underlying meaning highlighting bitter realities of our society. Again it depends on the way a writer approaches the issue. She might not have challenged the stereotypes with her characters but she certainly have with her style.
