The Me Too movement shook the world as it started from Hollywood and spread in the whole world. Many people who were silenced and were never given a chance to tell their stories came out and told the world how they were harassed and took advantage of. As a result, many predators in society came to light. The movement reached Pakistan too and one of the cases that came to light was CEO of Patari, Khalij Bajwa’s harassment of underage women. Many messages and stuff came to light on Twitter and as a result, he had to step down from his position. The other case which got even more famous was Meesha Shafi’s allegations on Ali Zafar.
Well, the Rockstar singer came under fire again when one of the women who had previously accused Kahlid Bajwa of inappropriate behaviour and sided with Meesha in the Ali-Meesha controversy was seen partying at Ali Zafar’s house. People pointed this out and were furious at her. She was criticized so much on social media that she ended up deactivating her accounts. Ali Zafar is also being criticized for partying with such young people.
Well, Ali sure stays in the news, sometimes due to his talent and sometimes due to the controversies but he sure is there!
Youtube world has grown a lot in Pakistan in the last few years. People have made careers through it and have a huge fan base especially among youth. If you are familiar with any social media platform, you probably are familiar with how close Zaid Ali, Sham Idrees and Shahveer Jaffry have been in the past. They were thick as thieves and Sham even was present at Zaid and Yumna’s wedding. However, something went wrong somewhere in there and Zaid has been seen commenting against Sham and his antics since then.
So, after making a whole series on how Sham and Froggy were breaking up and then getting back together, then rejecting the engagement and then finally getting married, Sham Idrees and wife Sehar aka Froggy are now making content based on their family planning and Zaid Ali was not sorry about calling such content out. This second episode of Dil Kya Kare was just as sweet as the first one. The characters were introduced with utmost clarity in the first episode and their relationships with each other were further established in this episode. The story so far is quiet simple, the characters are easy to connect to, the performances have been subtle and on point and the director has given this drama the right treatment. It does seem like Dil Kya Kare might just be the ‘normal’ drama we have all been waiting for.
Interesting Aspects
Bibi Jaan’s character is like a breath of fresh air – a graceful, educated, intelligent and fair woman. Shamim Hilali is such a wonderful actress who always does complete justice to her characters. She fits perfectly in this role and makes Bibi Jaan even more likable. Lately, in so many dramas we have seen women as head of the families but most often these women have been shown as negative and manipulating people. This drama so far has few of the most pleasant female characters. Aiman is a confident young girl who speaks her mind and has a difficult time dealing with people who have an ‘agenda’. The way her reaction was covered tonight after Romaissa shouted at them, went to show how ‘new’ all this was for her. Her reaction was easy to connect to since she has been living in an environment which is completely different. Aiman’s parents are easy-going which is why she is ‘scared’ of Romaissa but she is not letting that overshadow all the love she is getting from everyone else.
Arman and Aiman’s relationship has also been translated on screen in a cute way. Aiman, it seems, likes someone else and Arman is only a good friend. Arman on the other hand is completely smitten by Aiman. Yumna Zaidi and Feroze Khan have done exactly what was expected from them. They also share great on-screen chemistry. Rabia’s character is also appealing because even though her situation is anything but ideal but she has not been shown as a victim. She is a nice person who is trying to keep herself and others happy. Her track is also something new since most often widows in our dramas barely ever get that kind of love from their mother-in-laws and they are never ever shown trying to make something out of their lives without making it look like a really big deal. Although Romaissa is somewhat typical but the treatment given to this character makes it much more tolerable than many similar characters we have seen on screen lately. Marina Khan has underplayed this character and at the same time has managed to accentuate all the important personality traits. Faryal is another likable character in the play. Maryam Nafees too has played her role well.
Overall Impression
This second episode of Dil Kya Kare has raised my expectations since it was written and executed so well. The scenes in this episode were short and to the point.The overall feel of this play is different and appealing. The treatment given to this drama and the characters has brought out the best in the script. The story is simple, the characters are refreshing and you look forward to the next episode. It is good to see Feroze Khan in a ‘normal’ character for a change. All the actors fit perfectly in their respective roles and the situations are somewhat novel.
The Detailed Promo
The promo of the next episode gave away the most important development of the upcoming episode. This promo was a little too detailed and it did not leave much to the imagination! Just showing the funeral would have been enough, telling the viewers who was going to die was an extremely foolish move. All those viewers out there who do not like spoilers should not watch this promo.

Ohkay so, it is a done deal that Deedan is not only a bad drama but it is a flop too & no wonder why it didn’t garner any attention or popularity despite having a strong cast because the story & characters are a joke to put it in simple words. Week after week I actually waited for it to improve or kick-start but it continued to touch new lows every single time!
A Drama So Bad It Leaves You Baffled:
Palwasha is a gone case. Even though they have tried to show her as a damsel in distress who has a manipulative, controlling & shady husband but to honest, in stead of feeling anything for her, I feel annoyed at her stupidity. Alam Zeb has made it quite obvious to Palwsha that he is not someone who can be trusted so for her to fall for his lies again & again is pathetic. Also, Palwsha is an independent woman who makes a living for herself so why is it so hard for her to call her family or anyone in the village & ask them directly about whatever she wants to know about Resham or anything else for that matter? Alam Zeb keeps on stalling but Palwasha continues to wait for him thinking he will do what she asked him to? Palwasha’s helplessness is just forced & unconvincing. Plus what was the point of showing her touching the skies professionally when they just had to show that she is someone who can not take a stand for herself & conveniently allows her husband to fool her every single time!
Resham got captured by Gulbaz & then the entire village decided a punishment of stoning her? What are they trying to promote or show here? As far as I know, our actors are very vocal about women empowerment & women liberation & progressiveness so what are they actually trying to portray it to the world by showing such kind of dramas? It is absolutely unacceptable that in such an attractive packaging they are just selling an outdated concept here. Gulbaz is one story but Gul Makai (read Huma Nawab) is intolerable. Also, are they going to show that Zardab didn’t die & that he will once again come back & rescue Resham? A woman who is already married to someone else again? Seeing the snippets of their love story was another cringey factor of this episode.
Closing Thoughts – Trainwreck:
It is actually quite shocking to see that the director could not extract the best acting out of all those actors who, in other dramas, perform brilliantly. I think the person responsible for turning Deedan into a train wreck is the director. Also, the writer forgot that just coming out with a concept is just not enough, scriptwriting is an extensive exercise which requires a lot of detailing & hard work. It is shocking to see how all the characters are coming across as caricatures because they have been performed by those actors who have a lot of experience in acting but looks like they couldn’t do much because the director failed big time. Events are the place where we see different stars get together. Many celebrities and known faces came together at The Kidney Center Brunch. People from the fields of acting, modelling, designing as well as politics were spotted at the event. Shehryar Munawar Siddiqui, Komal and Hassan Rizvi, Amna Ilyas, Fauzia Aman, Freiha Altaf, Feroze Khan, Yasir Hussain, Asad Siddiqui and many others were seen at the brunch. CEO of Catwalk Event Management and Productions, Freiha Altaf is a lady who is always in news for one thing or another. This time it is for workplace harassment. A former intern at her agency Neha Kewalramani took to Facebook where she told people about Freiha’s alleged mistreatment of her employees. She shared her story and how she was emotionally tortured and insulted while she was working for the firm. This is what she had to say:

Hania Amir is all set to come back on screens with her drama Anaa in which she stars opposite Shehzad Sheikh and the drama will be aired on HUM TV. The starlet will also be seen soon in a telefilm that will also air on HUM TV. She will star opposite singer/actor Asim Azhar in the telefilm.
Asim Azhar has become a youth sensation with his stints on Coke Studio. His latest song Jo Tu Na Mila became quite a hit. The singer has been making a lot of waves since and people are loving his music on both sides of the border. The two stars will now ap[ar together for the telefilm which will appear may be next month.
The said telefilm will be directed by Ahsan Talish and is being produced by Usman Mukhtar. It is being said to be a rom-com project. Let’s see what is in store for us as soon as the telefilm’s promos come out!

Ohkay so, the story of Cheekh is getting quite interesting. The fact that the writer for now is focusing on making either of the characters suspects is what is making it quite enticing & worthwhile. I think if they will keep the grip on the story just like how it is in these initial episodes then Cheekh will turn out to be a drama to remember. I kind of hesitate in praising Big Bang dramas now because it is a known fact how after the first 10 episodes the story loses the track & turns into something else. I hope with Cheekh that doesn’t turn out to be the case because keeping it to the point while making a steady progress is really important for it to work & stay impactful. They will grab the ratings anyways so here’s to hoping that they won’t go out of the way & ruin the drama for the sake of ratings.
Hints & Clues:
This episode like all the previous episodes of Cheekh was done really well. Even though they have given an introduction to all the characters but I liked how they were still giving us an insight into each & everyone’s personalities. The most endearing aspect for me was showing what Nayab meant to Mannat & how Mannat was emotionally attached to her, that is why more than anyone else, Mannat was affected the most.
Everyone got to know that there was a rape attempt & no one especially Mannat could actually imagine that something like that could happen that too under her roof. I think by showing Haya’s indifferent attitude in the beginning, they have hinted it that later when things will become harder & difficult for her family, she will also leave Mannat’s side because eventually one of her family members will be involved. It is a done deal that it will be only Mannat who will stand by Nayab & fight this battle all alone right till the end.
Yawar continued to do everything that ensured his family stayed safe, away from any kind of unwanted attention that is why the first thing he did was indirectly pressurize Ramzan to be on his side by throwing some favours his way. The way Yawar didn’t let Wajih complete his sentence & let Amir know where he was actually hinted that he was trying to protect him. One of the most interesting conversations that happened was between Yawar & Wajih. It did seem like Yawar understood why Wajih insisted on seeing Nayab – may be Wajih wanted to see her in order to portray that he was genuinely worried while trying to put his guilty heart to ease? All the things Yawar said subliminally hinted over the fact that he knew what actually happened & why Wajih was behaving such a way.
The conversation between Wajih & Shariq was again one of the most important aspects of this episode. The dialogue of Shariq that has me confused is when he said “Wajih mujhe andar bhej ke tumne ghalti kar di”, suggesting or hinting that Wajih himself was out of the house when the incident happened? Could be possible that Shariq saw Yawar crossing the line with Nayab or Shariq being the culprit himself because now he was amused at the fact that everyone will suspect Wajih? It is commendable how the writer kept on giving out clues while shifting the doubts on Yawar, Wajih & Shariq. I however feel that the driver Sadiq is acting suspicious for no good reason, may be he has some kind of history of his own but I don’t think he is involved in this entire incident, may be!
Nayab finally spoke up & told Amir what she could. The focus on the word Raja is the biggest clue that has been given out so far. Raja was also the word that Wajih & Shariq used quite a bit but most importantly Wajih used it to refer to Shariq as well, but before Mannat used the word Raja to refer to Wajih in front of Nayab. Also, another thing that actually confused me as a viewer was Nayab’s expression when she saw Wajih, she didn’t seem disturbed or distressed seeing him so may be he is not the culprit or may be Nayab wanted to ask Wajih why he did all of that? Very interestingly & intelligetly done!
Closing Thoughts – Well-Executed:
The pace of Cheekh has been good so far but then again it is in the early stages so I can only hope that they do not slow down the pace & continue with the story in the same manner. The direction so far is really good. I liked how casually some of the clues were hinted without making it too obvious. Cheekh for sure is the kind of the drama that will spark a national discussion because everyone will he talking about who the culprit is. The production value is great & I really like the art direction too. The backgrounds are aesthetically done & visually appeasing, I am glad they didn’t relt on gaudy furnishings to showcase the financial status of Yawar’s family, rather they kept it subdued while still making it look classy & elegant. I was never too keen on Aijaz Aslam as an actor but he really has outdone himself & so far along with Saba Qamar, he has stood out the most & I don’t see any other acting fitting the character of Yawar just so well like Aijaz Aslam. Saba Qamar looks ravishing in Cheekh & I can’t wait for Mannat to come to the forefront & do what it takes to get Nayab the justice she deserves. Nayer Ejaz is another perfectly chosen actor to play the role of a police inspector, right from the beginning he has set the mood right that he is in for business & is not going to sell-out. I also like the background music they have chosen, it perfectly sets the mood for a thriller that Cheekh is. Please share your thoughts.
Bhola and Noori finally met tonight and this meeting couldn’t have been covered in a more apt manner. Bhola’s ‘love’ for his dulhan, Noori’s feelings for Bhola and most importantly the way Bhola felt rejected repeatedly was the best part of this episode. Bhola’s relationship with his mother and the way she protects him is the most heart-warming aspect of this drama. Their scenes have been written and executed flawlessly. This latest episode of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi had some of the most phenomenal performances we have seen on television in recent times. This episode also had few of the most beautiful as well as upsetting situations we have seen in this drama so far. Iqra Aziz’s outstanding performance tonight was the highlight of this episode. Imran Ashraf never ceases to impress and every single character in this play leaves an impression on you in some way or the other. Kashif Nisar’s skillful direction shone out in so many scenes tonight. The direction and editing of this drama has been perfect throughout.
Noori’s Practical Approach
Noori could not stand Bhola but she was fascinated by everything in her new house. Noori’s tour of the house, her expressions when she touched all those ‘clean’ beautiful things showed that she definitely liked her surroundings. Bhola’s dialogues clearly indicated that Noori already had a close bond with her mother in law and had decided that she was going to spend most of her time with her. Iqra Aziz’s expressions and body language along with the little details which were covered so well made her scenes a treat to watch. Noori’s love for cleanliness and her disgust towards Bhola showed that she was back to being her normal self. She answered all of Rizwana’s questions wisely without getting herself or Ama Janate into trouble in any way. This is only the start and there is so much more that Noori will have to face in the upcoming episodes. I am eagerly looking forward to watching how her journey unfolds since Noori is not the kind of woman who will give up under any circumstances. Watching Komal talk to Noori about her college made me wonder if Noori too will get a chance to study in the future.
Bhola’s Confusion
Bhola was expecting something completely different from this marriage therefore he had no idea why his dulhan did not smile and was so upset with him all the time. Noori decided to keep a safe distance from Bhola and did whatever she could to make sure that he does not feel comfortable around her. The scene in which Bhola offered her the pan was simply brilliant. The way he got scared and started crying was extremely poignant. This was the kind of scene that stays with you. Imran Ashraf’s riveting performance coupled with the way these scenes were written made these scenes impactful. Bhola decided to show his friends his Dulhan’s pictures and they recognized her instantly. Noori thought she had left her past behind but it seems like her past will come to haunt her very soon.
The Positive Characters
I absolutely love Bhola’s conversations with his mother. The scene in which she tried to lecture him before he went to meet Noori was so meaningful. Asma Abbas translated a mother’s fears and her love beautifully on screen. Her character is so positive and strong at the same time. She has dealt with so much in all these years yet she has nothing but love to give to his son and even to Noori now. The way her eyes lit up when she saw Noori and got mehndi made especially for her showed that she valued her. Komal is another character in this play who always puts a smile on my face. She is also Bhola’s well-wisher who tries to add as much ‘normalcy’ in his life as possible.
Overall Impression
Like every other episode of this drama, this one too was perfectly put together. Every scene added to the story in some way and was meaningful. The dedication and honesty with which this unusual yet appealing story has been told reflects in all the scenes. I felt for all the characters tonight – Noori, Bhola and Bhola’s mother. You can’t help but root for all these wonderful people who deserve better and are trying to make things better for themselves and each other. Right now, I am more interested in knowing how Noori will face everything that comes her way. Her character has so much going for it. Faiza Iftikhar’s script has been meaningful and engaging. Kashif Nisar never disappoints and the leading actors deserve an award for their mind-blowing performances.
Ohkay so, this episode of Khud Parast was again intense & very well done. It showed the perspective of every single character which I liked – those who were in the favour of what Uswa was doing & also those who were not. It is quite interesting to see how the writer has shown how usually & realistically diverse the dynamics are where every single person has their own approach as well as agenda behind a certain situation. This is what I enjoy the most while watching Khud Parast that every single character has a part to play in every single situation because it adds so much depth & dimension to all the scenarios.
Who Will Uswa Destroy – Hanan or Herself?
Uswa has made up her mind & what’s unfortunate is that she is not just walking out of Hanan’s life quietly minding her own business, she is out to destroy his entire family & their ties with each other that too without having any regrets. Uswa thinks all that she endured while being married to Hanan has to be returned but unfortunately, she is not directing her wrath on Hanan or Bakhtawar, in fact she is using Beenish as an excuse without even paying heed to the fact that Beenish is not only innocent but she has a daughter too who will lose her father, her family & her house because of what Uswa is doing!
My favourite scene of tonight’s episode was Zarina & Uswa’s conversation where Zarina tried to warn & prevent her from causing so much of destruction. It was quite interesting to see that Zarina still had so much of compassion & humanity in her that she tried to make Uswa see the consequences before taking such a huge step. Zarina has always supported Uswa like any mother does & all the things that she said also showcased how a mother feels when she can clearly foresee that the path her child is going to walk on will only be filled with thornes. Zarina knew that what Uswa is doing now will definitely come to bite her back & even then, as a mother Zarina will hurt the most seeing her daughter in such a condition. Yes, Zarina always supported & encouraged Uswa to make some wrong decisions but it used to be confined to Uswa getting back at Bakhtawar as Zarina could see that she used to mistreat Uswa but now her main concern was Beenish because like she said, Beenish is actually innocent & what Uswa is doing is unforgiveable & unacceptable.
Adeel can totally see himself getting closer to Uswa slowly & steadily. Uswa did make it very clear to him that for now she only needed him by her side as a friend but then considering how chummy he generally is, Uswa won’t be able to stop him especially after her divorce. Adeel didn’t stop from crossing the line when Uswa was married so after her divorce it is going to be a completely different story.
Another thing worth noticing is how it has been shown that so much of undeserving wealth earned without doing anything can cause rift & drift the families apart. Ever since Saad got the investment from Hanan, him & Omar have only become distant. Even though at this moment Saad does think he has everything under control because he has fooled his mother & brother & has given his wife what she wanted but I am sure later in life he will be full of regrets too as what he is doing is not going to guarantee him a peace of mind & ease of heart. Moeez made a deal with Saad & unfortunately by accepting it, Saad also signed up to play a part in ruining Beenish & Hoorain’s life. I am keen to see how will Saad pay the price for wronging innocent people like this!
So, it was the time for a final decision. While watching Bakhtawar in that entire situation, all I was thinking whether the thought had ever crossed Bakhtawar’s mind that whatever she was facing now could be a result of her wrongdoings & injustce too? Very easily & conveniently Bakhtawar was putting the entire blame on Uswa but why didn’t she ever once hold herself responsible for what she & her sons were going through? Uswa continued to fabricate one lie after another & Moeez indirectly supported her claims, Saad too & Bakhtawar had already made up her mind about Beenish but as well but she only wanted to protect Hanan. It was an unfortunate situation for Beenish as well as Hanan but who is going to believe them? Also, any guesses on who the witness could be? I have my bets on Khatoon Bibi, may be Uswa & Saad gave her a hefty amount to testify against Hanan & Beenish? Let’s see!
Closing Thoughts – Simply Amazing:
Overall, this episode exceeded my expectations once again. Watching Khud Parast is a treat in itself & props to the entire team for giving out such a well-made drama. The director here definitely deserves a special mention for doing justice to such a complex script like Khud Parast & shedding a light on every angle. All the actors are doing a commendable job. By looking at the glance of Sherdil’s poster, it somewhat looks like the story might be similar to Parwaaz Hai Junoon. But no one ever knows. As we can see Armeena Rana Khan as the main Lead actress so, we can expect that “Sherdil” is going to be another blockbuster of hers.
“Sherdil ” is an amalgam of action, drama and romance. It is directed by Azfar Jafri and it comprises of an amazing cast, starring, Armeena Rana Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Sabeeka Imam, Laila Zuberi, Hassan Niazi and many more.
4. Superstar
The leads in this movie will make you go wow. Yes, the dimpled boy Bilal Ashraf and the beauty queen of Pakistan, Mahira Khan are expected to be seen together in ‘Superstar”, produced by none other than Momina Duraid.
After Bilal Ashraf’s outstanding performance in his previous movies Janaan, Yalghaar and Rangreza we can now stay in peace that this eid-ul-Fitr we all are going to enjoy some quality time, watching this movie.

3. Sorry: A Love Story
Faisal Quraishi, whom the 90’s babies have grown up seeing in showbiz is finally coming back to the Pakistan’s film industry after such a long period. Faisal Quraishi and Sohail are all set to co-produce a new romantic movie named, “Sorry: A Love Story”. This film is mainly going to be about the ups and downs of a relationship.The film is directed by Javed and it is written by the magnificent Asma Nabeel. The main cast comprises of Faisal Quraishi, Amna Shaikh, Sonya Hussain and Zahid Ahmed. As this is a come back movie of Faisal Quraishi so, it has high expectations. Lets hope for the best.
2. Karachi Se Lahore 3
Wajahat Rauf has confirmed the second sequel of “Karachi Se Lahore” to be released this Eid-ul-fitr and everyone is so excited already. As it is written by Yasir Hussain so, we can expect to laugh our heads off. The previous two movies did great at the box office and this time the new cast will surely put an icing on the cake. This movie encompasses great actors, including Yasir Hussain, Asad Siddiqui, Shehzad Sheikh, Ayesha Umer, Qubra Khan and Zara Noor Abbas.

Misidentification and not giving due credit and opportunities to non-white people is a vice that is greatly prevailing in the western media. Such an incident took place recently and not by any small publication but by the coveted Vogue Magazine in their latest issue. The American-Muslim journalist and activist Noor Tagouri was misidentified as Pakistani actress Noor Bukhari in the latest February issue:
They described Noor in a caption as ” actor, director and model” thus misidentifying her for Pakistani actress Noor Bukhari:

Sanam Jang started her career on a promising note. She came and she conquered with her performance in drama Dil e Muzter. People were excited about her every project after that. Ali Rehman Khan looks clean in a suit while Hareem is seen in bridal wear and sneakers. Heer Maan Jaa looks like a romantic comedy. This will be an Eid ul Adha release and looks like it will be able to attract attention. Let’s wait and see how Heer Maan Jaa goes with the audiences!
These two episodes of Baba Jani covered the reasons why Asfand had to make yet another impulsive decision in order to protect Nimra. This decision was more impulsive than any other decision Asfand had made so far. For the first time it seemed like Asfand was not thinking straight at all because of the constant betrayals but once Asfand makes a commitment, he does not back off. Omair played a positive role throughout which makes you want to root for him. Nimra deserves someone like him in her life. There was lack of communication between Asfand and Nimra in this episode as well which made me feel for Nimra.
Nimra and Asfand’s Scenes
Nimra and Asfand’s scenes in these two episodes covered a great deal. The misunderstanding between them regarding Saqib was cleared and just when Nimra convinced herself that this nikkah might be a good decision after all, things changed dramatically. Although every single decision Asfand has taken ever since Sadia passed away has been directed towards protecting Nimra yet somehow she is always the one who feels left out. The lack of communication between these two characters is sometimes frustrating. Asfand is so busy protecting Nimra that he does not have the energy or the time to tell her what is going on. It also looks like, not telling her all this is another way of protecting her but most often it just backfires. It was especially surprising when Asfand decided to marry Mehwish but did not even tell Nimra that her nikkah with Omair had been cancelled and this was the new plan now. This is the reason why Nimra always misinterprets everything that goes on. She rightly thought that her Baba Jani was cheating on her mother by getting married this soon after her mother’s death. Faysal Qureshi translated Asfand’s confusion and hurt brilliantly on screen in this episode. Even though Asfand was hurt and felt cheated but he decided to keep the truth to himself.
Najiba and Naila Gang Up Again
Najiba and Naila joined hands once again when they found out that they now had a common ‘enemy’ – Mehwish! Some of these scenes were funny and Saqib just like always added fuel to the fire in whichever way he could. Najiba continued to be selfish and manipulative and Naila followed her lead. Omair’s role tonight was truly refreshing and the best part of this episode.
The Nikkah
Asfand’s nikkah with Mehwish was a little too sudden. Rakhshanda’s reservations were on point and basically showed that even Asfand’s well-wishers did not feel that this was a good idea. Mehwish’s concern about her child and her changed behavior was apparent from all the scenes. Even in the beginning of this drama, the viewers were shown that she was really close to her mother therefore the fact that she was willing to go ahead with this nikkah because of her did not come as a surprise. The entire scenario however was a lot like Asfand’s first nikkah especially the part covering Najiba and Naila’s stance.
Overall Impression
The performances in both these episodes were superb throughout. I felt for Asfand and Nimra both. Asfand’s decision to get married to Mehwish however made you wonder if marriage really was the solution to every problem! This drama has successfully shown how difficult it can be for a man like Asfand to balance every relationship without hurting anyone. Asfand is morally upright and extremely responsible, he tries his best but there are many times when someone or the other ends up getting hurt by his actions. Now that Mehwish is going to be Nimra’s step-mother, I am waiting to see how their relationship is covered. Will Najiba ever mend her ways? Are Nimra and Omair destined to be together?
PEMRA recently laid out some rules for Pakistani dramas and we would like to share our thoughts about the issue. The orders issued by PEMRA require the drama makers to cut down on controversial themes and ensure that the dressing and the overall themes of the dramas should be in line with the ‘socio-cultural’ norms of the country.
As is mentioned in the order, PEMRA issued this press release after getting complaints from the viewers who we must remember are the ones who watch these dramas and make them ‘hits’! The press release itself is quite ambiguous and appears to be a mixed-up summary of everything that the complainants had to say about Pakistani dramas. Basically, if we look at everything PEMRA wants to put an end to, apart from a couple of dramas, all the other Pakistani dramas should be banned! Since that is never going to happen and no one really listens to what PEMRA has to say any way, we feel that it is important to make a list of all such dramas which should have been banned. There have been some dramas in the past which either crossed a certain line, were too bold, mishandled a sensitive subject or showed unnecessary evil, which most certainly serve as an example of dramas which should have been banned right away.
Here is a list of Pakistani dramas which in our opinion should have been banned right away for reasons stated below.
Nanhi
Nanhi was one such bold drama which did not serve a bigger purpose. Showing the negative side of the society in the most detailed manner just for the sake of ‘entertainment’ is the number one reason why this drama should have been banned. The solution which was presented in the end was more shocking than anything else that happened in the drama. Nanhi was not just terribly depressing but also ill-conceived.
Chup Raho
Chup Raho was another drama which commercialized a sensitive topic and as a result the message was completely lost. Showing a problematic situation repeatedly and giving the villain more screen time to get ratings were few of the reasons why this drama failed to do justice to the topic it was supposed to highlight. Scenes which were in bad taste and disturbing situations which were more forced than convincing made this drama a complete disaster. It also set a bad precedent which was followed by many other drama makers.
Beqasoor
Beqasoor banked heavily on the miserable situation of its main female leads. This misery did not end right till the very end. In the last few minutes, the viewers were shown a happy ending. While it is true that women suffer a great deal in our society, showing women who suffer in silence and keep on going back to men who do not value or respect them and portraying such women as heroines is highly objectionable.
Rishte Kuch Adhoorey Se
Rishter Kuch Adhoorey Se showed how a ‘misunderstanding’ results in a really twisted situation in which the bride’s sister ends up entering into a nikkah with the man she was supposed to marry but since this is kept ‘hidden’, the sister who had not entered into a nikkah ends up going home with the groom at the time of rukhsati. The mother knew everything yet she did not stop the rukhsati from happening. This drama was twisted in more ways than one.
Pakeeza
Drama serial Pakeeza showed the suffering of a talented woman who was always underappreciated and even physically abused by her husband. She continued living with her husband even after he divorced her. This was yet another Pakistani drama which showed the sufferings of a married woman and the tragedy was never-ending. It also had a controversial plot which was used to get ratings.
Balaa
Recently ended drama serial Balaa got a lot of attention but for all the wrong reasons. It only had negativity, family politics, planning, plotting, drinking and deaths to offer. Dramas like Balaa serve no purpose and are not only made but dragged as well to generate ratings because the shortcut to getting TRP’s is showing all things evil. Balaa’s story was about a psychopath but not even once it was suggested that she could get some medical help. Such dramas should be banned and those who produce and write this kind of content should be heavily fined.
Sangat
In drama serial Sangat they tried their very best to turn villain into a hero by showing that he was feeling guilty for what he did so he wanted to redeem himself by becoming a saviour. It was unfortunate that the female lead who got violated also started relying on him and unfortunately there was a child involved too. The attachment of everyone with the villain made the scenarios off-putting & uncomfortable but the drama-makers relied on such situation to grab the attention of the viewers.
Ek Tamanna Lahasil Si
In drama serial Ek Tamanna Lahasil Si, they showed each and every kind of zulm that a mother in law could put her daughter in law through and after prolonged misery, they tried to give a happy ending which didn’t make an impact because most of the drama was based on the negativity that the purpose seemed lost.
Ghairat
In drama serial Ghairat, a brother sets his sister on fire in the name of honour and everyone around him stays quiet which further facilitates him making him feel empowered and entitled that he can rule or ruin anyone’s life just like that. The key factors of Ghairat were forced negativity and helplessness of females which was pushed to the limit with a little love story brewing on the side.
Gul-e-Rana
Gul-e-Rana was supposed to be a love story but it went terribly wrong. This drama showed a forced nikkah on gunpoint and marital rape like it was something normal. There wasn’t a single instance when both these things were addressed like they were serious issues in the dramas. In fact they were used as a means to take the plot forward. This drama should have been banned the second the so-called hero raped the girl he forced into a nikkah by sedating her.
Janam
Janam was creepy and sickening in more ways than one. It had many pointless romantic scenes which were in bad taste. It also showed how a father persuades his daughter to flirt with his best friend. Everything about this drama was in bad taste.
