Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 16 – What Goes Around, Comes Around!
Oh wow, what an episode. I really feel a little uneasy praising Alif Allah Aur Insaan so much week after week because I have a fear of jinxing it, since it usually turns out to be the case with almost every other Hum TV drama these days. Anyways, I am so glad that Alif Allah Aur Insaan has turned out to be such an amazing drama, which has all the ingredients that make it successful. From drama to emotions to convincing scenarios to development & pace, every single episode has had so much to offer that it surely is a treat to tune to this drama on Tuesdays because it guarantees that this one hour is going to give you the sort of entertainment that you are looking for. Even though the story of this drama is intense & is based on realities of life, I still find it to be a feel good drama!
So, if it wasn’t for Chaman Begum, Shahzeb would’ve never gotten a clear perspective of what he was going through & most importantly why. It was interesting how all this while, it never really occurred to Shahzeb that everything that he was facing might’ve been the consequence of hurting someone’s true feelings. Shahzeb by chance stumbled across Chaman Begum only to get to the truth that was he was in search of himself. Even though it was convincing that someone had to speak on the behalf of Nigar Begum to once again tell Shahzeb how much he meant to her, I really felt bad for Nigar Begum that the one she loved truly had no idea about her, like she didn’t even cross Shazheb’s mind even for a second that all that he was going through could’ve been because of her. Nigar Begum loved him deeply, whereas for Shahzeb, she was just someone whom he came across & forgot as she held no importance in his life. Chaman Begum & Shahzeb’s conversation was done really really well, I felt so overwhelmed when Chaman Begum was speaking about Nigar Begum with so much of sadness because out of all the people, she knew how hurt Nigar was when Shahzeb rejected her love. Chaman Begum knew what Nigar went through when she lost the hope that Shahzeb would give her the respect she longed for all her life, like even though Chaman is serving Reena but the love & respect she has for Nigar is still intact!
Finally, Shahzeb did realize that it was Nigar Begum’s curse that came into the play, more like a karma that he was being rejected in a similar way. Just like how he undermined Nigar’s love, Shahzeb’s love was being undermined the same way too. I loved the conversation that Shahzeb & Zaitoon had, it is endearing to see how much Zaitoon trusts her son & everything she said was spot on. I loved Zaitoon’s balanced approach where after reminding Shahzeb that he didn’t do anything wrong by refusing to give Nigar what she wanted, she also told him to apologize to her as she could feel that Nigar must’ve been deeply hurt but sadly, it’s too late to do anything as there’s no chance for Shahzeb to seek forgiveness from her!
Well, I was actually interested to see Reena Begum in this episode, like I wanted to see how she was doing after the emotional trauma that she went through but looked like she picked herself up & accepted it as a part of her new life that’s why she didn’t hold back in flaunting her status in front of the flower vendor only to get reminded that she had to give a lot in order to gain what she wanted. Reena might think that she has won but this is just the beginning as every step of the way, she will be faced with the reality that she didn’t obtain this wealth without paying a heavy price herself first. Oh well, to be honest, I loved seeing Nigar Begum in this episode because this is exactly what I assumed & predicted should happen in the last review & to see it happening really made me happy. Finally, Reena’s subconscious was now going to play tricks on her & it won’t let her forget what she did with Nigar Begum. Reena must’ve thought that by taking her place, she actually took over & succeeded but her conscience is always going to remind her that she is the reason why Nigar Begum is dead today. People might forget Nigar Begum in front of Reena Begum, but the best part is, she herself is never going to get her out of her mind!
Well, coming to the most interesting part of this episode, Basit & Nazneen’s rishta. I loved loved loved the way it was handled. Nazneen did win, she finally did because both her father & Basit’s father did everything that she wanted. Hashmat obviously always had a soft corner for Basit in his heart because he did treat him like his son, that is why even after his wife dissed the idea, he convinced her showing that he had made up his mind even before speaking to her. I found it quite interesting how in this scenario, both the fathers were easy-going & chill whereas both the mothers not only had some inhibitions but also strongly opposed the idea. I loved seeing Basit’s eagerness when Qadir informed him that he had spoken to Hashmat & now he was waiting for his response, this was for the first time when Basit actually showcased what was in his heart otherwise he was always mindful of the fact that one wrong move of his could tarnish his family’s reputation that is why he kept his feelings to himself!
Nazneen obviously couldn’t contain herself when she found out that her parents chose Basit for her. Nazneen didn’t mind playing tricks & she thought Basit would be with her on this as well but it was quite interesting to see how Basit immediately drew the line the moment Nazneen told him that everything that she did was on purpose & she deliberately caused a dent in Shahzeb’s image to be with Basit. I think that entire scene was acted out brilliantly by Shehzad sheikh where you could see perplexity in Basit’s expressions & body language as if even he was hating the fact that Nazneen could go to such extreme to get what she wanted. It was like for the first time Basit was scared of her love, though he has said this before that the intensity of Nazneen’s love does scare him at times but this time around, his fears got confirmed & he was finding it hard to relate to Nazneen!
Even though things looked like they were shaping up in Nazneen’s favor but who would’ve thought that Basit’s mother would find out the truth & she would make sure to convey it to Qadir. Basit for the first time lied to his parents as well saying that he had no idea what Nazneen did to call her marriage off with Shahzeb because he knew his parents would never approve of getting him married to Nazneen after finding out what actually transpired & that is exactly what happened. Qadir felt he would be deceiving Hashmat if he wouldn’t tell him that everything that he was going through was basically done by Nazneen only to be with Basit. I think Suhail’s involvement was another convincing aspect because he not only took a stand for his best friend but also wanted to do everything to make sure that his reputation isn’t spoiled because Shahzeb didn’t deserve that. All of a sudden the track which seemed one-dimensional & boring has gotten so interesting that I am actually looking forward to see what will happen with Basit & Nazneen. I really felt bad for Shahzeb because either way, he was going to be at the losing end, even if he got to be with Nazneen or not. Now it’s time for Shammo’s curse to come into the play & cast its shadows on Nazneen’s life but will she realize her mistakes? Definitely not & sadly, in this scenario, it won’t be Nazneen alone who’d suffer, Basit will face the brunt as well which even he also doesn’t deserve!
Overall, this episode was amazing & the preview of the next episode promised fireworks. I am sure it is going to be intense & interesting just like this episode. All the actors have performed phenomenally & flawlessly, like there’s not even a single actor that can be picked out who hasn’t given their 100%. For the first time I liked Mikaal Zulfikar’s performance as well, I also like the fact that the writer hasn’t shown Shahzeb as a bechara, she has only shown that he is suffering because of loving someone unconditionally & because of rejecting someone’s unconditional love too. Shehzad sheikh was the star of this episode for sure, especially in the scene where Basit meets Nazneen, he really acted out Basit’s confusion to perfection. It is interesting how the writer showed that Nazneen did score a win by fooling her parents but Basit couldn’t bring himself to do that because he wasn’t this selfish to keep his parents in the dark for her sake for the rest of his life. Noor ul Hassan gave yet another brilliant performance in this episode, it is a treat seeing him doing justice to Qadir’s character. Kubra Khan’s acting was perfect too, where she posed to be all innocent in front of her parents but showed her true colors to Basit because she thought he’d also jump with joy after finding out about the game that she played. Loving this drama so far & hope I get more such chances to fall in love with it again. Please share your thoughts about this phenomenal episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Javed Miandad Asks PCB to Boycott India in all ICC events!
Javed Miandad, Pakistan’s legendary cricketer has called on the PCB to boycott against their arch-rivals, India, in all ICC events.
The veteran of 124 Tests, who also coached the national team thrice, said it was time Pakistan took a strong stance on cricket ties with India keeping in mind national interest and pride. This came in result to what India’s sports minister, Vijay Goel had announced earlier; no Pakistan sportspersons will be allowed to play in India or vice versa except for when it is at a neutral venue and at a multilateral tournament, such as the ICC Champions Trophy.
The former team captain said,
It is time we responded with bricks to stones. There is no need for us to play with India at any forum if they are not willing to restore bilateral ties. We should also boycott playing against them in all ICC events.
Miandad believed that boycotting India at all events will affect the ICC’s financials greatly as one of the biggest games are the matches between India and Pakistan. According to him, this would eventually lead to a better treatment of Pakistan on this particular issue.
I think when we don’t play India in ICC events and the ICC suffers financial losses and their events lose significance and colour, only then we will be treated with respect and we will be heard on a equal level at any forum.
What do you think of Miandad’s statements? Do you support him in this boycott or are you against him?

Ghairat Episode 3 Review – Convincing Developments
Tonight’s episode of Ghairat covered the aftermath of the tragic development in the previous episode and it did so quite logically. All the developments in tonight’s episode were convincing. Saba’s frame of mind in particular was translated on screen superbly. She was fearful for her life and knew that only Zohaib could rescue her. Usman killed Iqra while her mother was present there, she could not do anything to stop him therefore Saba knows that she is not safe in the house even with her brothers locked away since they can return at any given time considering the fact that her mother is not in her senses and rest of the family is more than willing to cover up for Usman. The shock and horror on the faces of Saba and her mother when they saw what had happened and when Usman announced it was an accident made this scene come to life.
Junaid’s fears immediately after he let Usman and Adnan take Iqra were shown through the conversation he had with Jamal. This was another discussion which was realistic and to the point. Watching Usman act so normal after killing his own sister was seriously disturbing but it was a true depiction of the mindset behind such crimes. These people are so sure that there was absolutely nothing wrong with what they did and they do not even have a conscience. It was almost as if Usman felt more in control now and had gained more confidence after killing his sister. The way he told Zohaib to take his family away and that he wanted no ties with them went to show that he felt more entitled than ever to make these decisions and force them on other people.
Zohaib’s reaction in particular demonstrated how a “normal” person would react to such an incident. He could not stand to be around these murderers who were acting like they did nothing wrong and when Saba wanted him to take her with him he did his best to stay with her even though everyone around him asked him to leave. Muneeb Butt and Iqra Aziz acted brilliantly in this episode as well. Iqra Aziz and Muneeb Butt also have great on-screen chemistry. In fact all the actors have been performing really well so far.
Adnan ultimately narrated the entire incident to Jamal and it remains to be seen what turn this track will take from here on since the real story will begin now. This is what I found most appealing about this drama, the honor killing takes place in the beginning therefore the main focus should be on the aftermath which I hope will have a good lesson and will be handled intelligently. The next episode showed Usman and Adnan coming back home; I am wondering how that will happen. Will Usman’s mother forgive him so that he can be out of jail?
So far, Ghairat has been an interesting play which keeps giving you a reason to tune into it every week. It has a solid story which is executed well and all the actors are doing complete justice to their characters as well. The pace of the play so far has been impressive too.

Celebs Who Were Not Lucky In Marriage!
Yes marriage is an institution on which families are built. In a profession such as acting people live in lime lights all the time and that put greater pressures on relationships for them as compared to normal couples. Luckily we have a lot of happy couples in the industry too like Fawad and Sadaf and Urwa Farhan but some couples were not lucky in this regard. Here are some stars whose marriages did not last long:
Yeh Raha Dil Episode 25 Review – Interesting Episode!
Ohkay so, it was quite an interesting episode of Yeh Raha Dil. I enjoyed it & this episode reminded me why I fell in love with this drama in the first place, because all the scenes had a purpose & there were so many conversations which were fun & had humor in them. It looks like they are heading towards the closure therefore all the loose ends have started getting tied, which is finally the kind of progress that I was waiting for!
So, it wasn’t only Hayat who on her own was trying to stop Fatima from going, but even attempts were being made by Affaq too, even he didn’t want Fatima to leave because he genuinely loves her. It was good that Hayat finally played the trump card & revealed the biggest secret in front of Fatima. While watching this entire scenario, I was actually liking Hayat’s involvement in this entire affair but then it reminded me that just last week I was feeling that Hayat’s nose-poking wasn’t making any sense, then it made me realize that when things are dragged, that’s what usually happens, where even those characters that you love & relate to just stop making sense to you. I still wish they hadn’t added so many episodes in this drama because the charm would’ve still stayed intact. I loved the little hug that Hayat & Fatima shared as a mother & daughter, I loved their conversations too. Fatima would’ve never thought that Hayat would end up becoming someone she’d confide in & she’d keep her secret hidden with her for the rest of her life.
Affaq & Fatima’s conversation was another highlight of the episode for me. It was so cute seeing two mature people admitting their mistakes, rekindling the love they had for each other & reminding themselves of all those smallest of details which made them fall in love with each other in the first place. Fatima did realize that Affaq didn’t want her to go & seeing Affaq remaining unaffected with Fatima’s affair was another positive aspect. Affaq was well aware of his own short-comings too & he knew that he wasn’t there for Fatima when she needed him the most, therefore he decided to undo all of his mistakes & gave this marriage another chance. It was interesting how Affaq thought it was only because of his efforts that Fatima decided to stay whereas he had no idea what a huge favor Hayat did for him & her step-mom!
Nida finally had a conversation with Zaki & told him that it wasn’t because of him that she wanted out of this marriage, but it was because of her own realizations & mistakes that she took this decision. I didn’t really understand Zaki’s hesitation & his stance, like now when things were shaping up, he was stopping Nida from doing the right thing. Yes, he isn’t selfish & him not jumping with joy at that very moment made sense too but still, he should’ve understood Nida in stead of stopping her from saying what she wanted to. Just when I was enjoying the entire episode & found it a strong one after a few weeks, there came Hassan as a reminder of the of the reason why this drama was dragged. I felt may be for the first time Hayat had this admiration for Hassan seeing his simplicity & decency. I am sure now Hayat would be at the brink of saying yes to Hassan just when Nida will tell her that she is backing out!
It was a good episode & I had a great time watching it. I really think they should end this drama now. The conversation between Jimmy & Affaq did suggest that may be our favorite DJ will make an appearance again on the wedding functions & if that’s the case, then I can’t wait for his performance already. Khalla, Bait ul Khalla & few other dialogues really made this episode interesting. I also loved how Fatima lost her cool while cussing her boyfriend & then immediately composed herself & came back in her element where she is always calm, collected & poised, lol. I loved Ayesha Sana in this episode, it was a treat to watch her & she really has given a lovely personality to Fatima’s character. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yeh Raha Dil.
Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Using Patriotism For Sales!
Pakistanis are a passionate and emotional nation. We may see thousands of people around us who are always complaining about Pakistan. They would have issues with governance, load shedding, education system and what not and they will always be expressing their desire to flee from here but deep inside there is a patriotic creature sitting in everyone’s hearts. The fact is known by all and unfortunately is used by others to exploit us sometimes. Be it political parties with agendas like” Only democracy will save Pakistan and we are the democracy” to “Building a new Pakistan”, they use our love for our country to get gains for themselves. Same stands true for entertainment industry too.
Our film industry unfortunately was shut down years ago and all the people related to it from cinema owners to spot boys suffered miserably. We sadly had to turn solely to entertainment provided by Bollywood movies and go through all the Dilwale type torture with good movies few and far in between. Then Waar came out in 2013 and things started changing for good. It was an army movie and made people cry and stand in the love of their country. But what seems is the upcoming film makers somehow misread the audience and linked Waar’s success to only the patriotism factor attached to it and ignored its strong script, top-notch direction and coordinated acting.
Film makers in place of using the power of their of their films to attract audience started copying old formulas mostly from Bollywood movies but want the audience to come and watch it because it is a Pakistani film. Many films came out this year but none of them could impress the audience. Reason is simple they lacked strong stories and scripts. For example Chalay Thay Saath had a cute lead pair, scenic locations and pretty enjoyable music but the film didn’t make it to the hit list because it lacked the main thing which attracts the audience A STRONG STORY!!! Same goes for Balu Mahi.
Yalghaar released on Eid ul Fitr was heavily promoted and was released in many countries. The film had a very strong cast too including Shaan Shahid, Humayun Saeed, Adnan Siddique, Bilal Ashraf and Ayesha Omer among others. But the film’s promotions lied mainly on it being publicized as the sequel of Waar and targeting the patriotic streak of people. The outcomes however are a big lesson for everyone that a film will not work merely on the factor that it awakens the patriotism in the audience with its trailers. Yalghaar despite of being an army based film with a high budget and famous cast couldn’t be saved because the makers didn’t stress on making the plot strong and giving the audience value for money.
The makers then start blaming the people who criticize them. Similar things came forward during the releases of Lahore Se Aagey and Mehrunisa V Lub U. Crass humour and item songs were the usp’s of both the movies. What they have to understand is you have to bring pretty content to get pretty comments. Why Na Maloom Afraad, Actor In Law and Main Hoon Shahid Afridi were not bashed left and right by the viewers. Yes they got their share of dislikes too. A film cannot impress everyone but the lack of story and strong acting will drive away the audience whatever the makers may do for promotions. Even the PAKISTANI FILM card will not save the film.
Summarising it I would like to say that just using the tag line WE NEED TO SUPPORT PAKISTAN FILM INDUSTRY will not help in the long run. Emotions do not sell films, Content does. And if all film makers will keep adding tootie frooties and billis in their films, also trying to awaken some kind of kaif o suroor type feelings in your audience (I know I sound like Hamza right now but he is actually right here) and at the same time calling audience to support films because it is Pakistani industry than it will never make sense to the audience, since audience is NOT dumb. Plus a single ticket costs between 500 to 600 rupees and why would anyone spend this much money on substandard content when other films would be present along side in cinemas. At last I would say that yes all Pakistanis should support the flourishing cinema but the industry also needs to work on their product to attract the audience rather than just keep using patriotism to have gains in their business.
What do you think of this trend of using patriotism for business gains? Share your thoughts!

Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua Episode 6 Review – Superbly Executed
Tonight’s episode was brilliantly executed just like all the previous episodes of Tau Dil Ka Kya Hva. This drama shows how a skillful director can make every scene work. The scene in which Faris asks Dariya to call him in that particular manner before making coffee wasn’t an easy scene to direct but it was shot so beautifully. It showed Faris’ madness and also another failed attempt by him to try and “relive” what he missed about a phase of his life which was now officially over. It also showed Dariya’s feelings for Faris; she will do anything to make him feel better even if it means going along with a request which didn’t make a lot of sense. The difference between Maya and Dariya’s personality has been made quite obvious right from the beginning therefore it was easy connecting to this entire situation; there was a good reason why Faris thought Dariya could never shout like that! Mansha Pasha has been absolutely phenomenal as Dariya; she has managed to strike the perfect balance between softness and strength. Although Dariya is a polite girl but she has inner strengths which make her character likeable. Her character is not clichéd which is another reason why she is going to be a lot more than the girl who is madly in love with a man who will probably never fall in love with her. Sami Khan and Mansha Pasha’s on-screen chemistry makes their scenes a treat to watch. No matter how unusual the situation is, these two definitely make it convincing and worthwhile.
“Bus aik chota sa gunnah kiya tum ne, mujhe mohabba sikhai, mohabbat mei jeena sikhaya aur tarbiyat khatam hote hi keh diya ke tumhei mujh se mohabbat nahi rahi.”
Just like every other episode of TDKKH this one too had some phenomenal dialogues to its credit which were delivered faultlessly by some of the actors. Sami Khan has been absolutely perfect in this drama right from the get-go. His perfect portrayal of a character which isn’t easy to translate on screen has made Faris’ character one of the major reasons why I tune into this drama every week. I also love the way this character has been written. The way Faris is constantly trying to take control of a situation which is beyond his control makes you feel for his character and you actually understand why he keeps on making these bizarre decisions. Tonight, he finally decided to divorce Maya only after saying everything which had been disturbing him for all these days. He obviously thought that saying all of this was going to give him the closure he is desperately looking for subconsciously. It is however quite obvious that it will take Faris a lot of time to move on. I am looking forward to his journey because so far everything about his character has been very interesting. I am also waiting to find out more about Siraj uncle’s character especially after what Faris said about him when he was giving Maya his “verdict”. It also looks like there is a connection between Siraj Uncle and Saif. I am pretty sure it was Siraj Uncle’s picture Saif was looking at when he said “tarpa tarpa ke maar dalu ga tumhein.”?
Maya walked out of her house certain that Saif will welcome her with open arms but even when he told her she could not stay with her, she was very understanding just like all the other times when Saif convinced her to do things his way. Saif knows how to handle Maya therefore every time he wants her to do something in a different way he assures her that he loves her therefore he wants things done differently. Saif’s real intentions were shown clearly for the first time tonight. The scene covering Maya’s argument with her mother clearly showed that Saif was lying. It also showed just how blinded Maya was at this point, she believed Saif more than her mother or anyone else. She has done the impossible for Saif which is another reason why she does not want to see that Saif might not be the person he says he is. Ayeza Khan acted superbly in tonight’s episode especially when Maya goes to Faris’ house; her expressions were right on point. Zahid Ahmed continues to give an average performance although he promised his fans that he will be playing the role “of the most charming villain” he has played so far in this play. So far Saif’s character does not even have the screen presence which this character could have had if it wasn’t translated in a different manner.
I am thoroughly enjoying watching this play, it is like reading an interesting novel, one page at a time, absorbing every little detail and looking forward to what the next page has in store!
How many of you watched this episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.
