Aasmanon Pay Likha Episode 7 – Not Much Progress!

0

This week’s episode revolved mainly around Natasha and Aaliyan and the focus was more on their relationship. There was not much progress in the story, but overall it was a good episode. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all Dudi and Aaliyan’s scenes.  Qudsiya and Aaaliyan both are comfortable with Dudi and I guess, so far (ironically) this is the only thing common between them!

The only one who understands Qudsiya’s situation clearly is Dudi. Qudsiya has told her everything that her family is going through at the moment, and what would be their reaction when they hear about the divorce. Even her own mother and sisters are not ready to understand her position and Qudsiya had to turn to Dudi for advice who could understand the situation she was stuck in. Dudi always gives the most genuine advice and is very practical in her approach. She wanted to meet Qudsiya’s parents to make everything clear to them, and from the looks of the preview for the next episode, she is going to realize what Qudsiya has been telling about her father was 100% true and not at all exaggerated. So far, she was not too much worried about the situation but now after seeing everything with her own eyes, she will definitely be tensed and worried about the mess that Aaliyan had created.

For most part, the episode focused on Aaliyan and Natasha. If Aaliyan is careless, then Natasha is clearly very immature and I doubt such a combination can work. Aaliyan is trying his best to explain the situation to Natasha, but every time some thing or the other happens that again brings doubts in her mind. I do not understand how Aaliyan is able to handle her tantrums though. He somehow keeps calm during her tantrums and then once her anger has faded away, he easily manipulates her. He really knows how to handle Natasha! This time Natasha had to go against her father to side with Aaliyan, and what I found surprising was that he did not care if her father was upset or was against their relationship.

Aaliyan and Qudsiya’s cute interaction in the car was as usual very entertaining. They both are complete opposite of each other. Qudsiya is practical, realistic and has a sober and reserved nature. Aaliyan, on the other hand is care free, full of life, and has a highly impractical approach towards life. This contrast makes their interaction even more interesting to watch.

‘Shaadi Ko Maante Nahi Per Kaam To Saare Shoharon Wale Karte Ho’

Dudi could not help but tease Aaliyan who openly says that Qudsiya does not mean anything to him, but he always ends up helping her in one way or the other. After Qudisya and Aaliyan scenes, it is Dudi and Aaliyan scenes that I look forward to. Also, the scene where he comes in her room and complains that Qudsiya had practically kicked him out of her room was simply hilarious! Even Dudi could help but smile at his words.

Qudsiya had taken Dudi’s advice very seriously and when Aaliyan came to her room, she rudely told him to get out! The poor guy had come there to return her earring and Qudsiya realized her fault a little too late. The next day, he made it absolutely clear how offended he was by his behavior. His adorable expressions was definitely a treat to watch.

Adil and his mother scheming was one part of the episode that I wanted to skip. Adil wants to get married to Qudsiya’s sister because of Qudsiya’s relationship with Aaliyan’s family. This track in my opinion is completely unnecessary. They should focus more on Qudsiya and Aaliyan’s story now. I am still waiting for Emad Irfani’s entry. Hope he makes an entry soon!

Shukk Episode 3 Review

0

From this episode onwards I would be reviewing Shukk for you. I hope you would like my reviews. If not to g jo karna hai kar lena, mein naheen jaan chornay wala! Also, beware that I have been quite inconsistent with my earlier reviews of the two dramas that I was reviewing. But I intend to do this one till the end warna sub ko galliyan parain gee including me. Why did I decide to review this drama (I know nobody has asked me, phir bhee bataunga bhayiyon aur behno because I am the reviewer here! ), I found this drama very real and not over the top like other dramas on air right now so couldn’t resist reviewing it for you people.

Coming to today’s episode, it started with Maham urging Atif to find out where Sehrish is busy these days. Sorry if anyone’s offended but each time Mr. Atif appeared on screen I felt like you could fry an egg over his large bald head (ahem, what about my own hairfall, never mind!). Somewhere Maham’s voice sounded like someone else’s to me, maybe Ainee Jaffri but I could be wrong. Off course to err is human and going by this definition I am super human.

We also got to know in this episode that Sania and Ehtisham were once engaged but then this engagement was called off. The reason for engagement being called off wasn’t revealed. We just got to know that Ehtisham always liked Sehrish and got engaged to Sania on his mother’s pressure. In future, this would prove to be a reason for ‘Shukk’ or doubt by Sehrish on her loving husband Ehtisham and on Sania by his husband thanks to his mother.

The difference between the two mother-in-laws was brilliantly depicted. Sehrish’s mother-in-law is sweet and understanding. She doesn’t blame Sehrish for not bearing her grand children and attributes it to Allah’s will while Sania’s invalid mother-in-law not only curses and abuses her but talks negative about her to her son who’s working abroad. She also tries to create rift between Sania and her son Rumi.

Rumi has got a liking for Sehrish maybe because of the tense environment of his house. He threw his ball constantly inside Sehrish’s house which landed each time at Sehrish’s mother-in-law’s feet who wondered whether the ball had springs as each time she threw it out it landed back. This scene was especially very cute and nicely done as Sehrish got that it was Rumi who’s behind the ball trick and brought him inside. They had such a good time that they didn’t realize that Rumi hadn’t informed his mother or grandmother about coming to their house. When they took him back, Sania was quite rude to them and her mother-in-law also shouted from inside on which Sehrish went to her and khoob lattay liye us ke (sorry couldn’t find a befitting English word for it so thought thoree see English kee tang toroon jaisay aj ke dramas mein actors Urdu kee tang tor rahay hain!)

Because of Sehrish’s outburst, Sania’s mother-in-law ended up in the hospital leaving Sehrish quite guilty. It was another cute scene where Sehrish and Ehtisham were going to the hospital in their car and Sehrish was praying loud to Allah Mian to save Sania’s mother-in-law. However, once in the hospital Sania was quite rude to Sehrish who was making all sorts of offers of help to her. Later, Ehtisham confronted Sania about her rudeness to his wife on the road. Sehrish saw them from her window, seeds of doubt begin to take root. Hats off to Ehtisham’s mother who understood on her own why Ehtisham and Sania were having a conversation on the road even though she got to knew about it from Sehrish.

The episode ended with Sania indirectly taunting Sehrish about not knowing about children as she’s childless and Sehrish walking out of Sania’s home. It might herald a new beginning of friendship between the two and off course thicken the shadows of doubt already there.

Overall the acting of everyone was upto the mark. Ayesha was brilliant as she confronted Badar Khalil (Sania’s mother-in-law), when she was angry even while back home, the way she prayed for Badar Khalil in the car, the way her expressions changed in the last scene when she’s reminded me of being childless. Adeel was equally effective as the loving husband, Shamim Hilali as the good natured mother-in-law of Ayesha and Sanam Saeed as the subdued wife who is at the receiving end from her mother-in-law’s side. Badar Khalil was however, over the top and loud. I personally didn’t find her part convincing. The child who played Rumi was also cute.

I also lament the screen time devoted to the nosy couple Atif and Maham. I understand they are there for a purpose but need they be present in so many scenes. They aren’t exactly eye candy you now plus their irritating tactics. The one-location where Ali, Sania’s husband talks on cell to his family also stuck out like a sore thumb (off course they didn’t want to shoot abroad but why just this strange looking room as one location, it’s as if Ali had nothing else to do than to sit in his room all day, waila like me!).

Now that I have said all that I wanted to say this week, I hope that this review turns out to be every reviewer’s dream. Maximum comments, maximum and unlimited praise in simple words and words for which you need to open Oxford dictionary, no one disagreeing with me and people saying ‘where were you earlier’. O God I need to open my eyes now, I have rolled much far on the floor after having fallen from the bed. O no Masi, don’t broom me, I can bath, I assure you!

Numm – Episode 11

0

This latest installment of Numm was much better than the last few episodes primarily because unlike the previous episodes, there were scenes in which I felt that connection with the characters which seemed to be completely lost before. The scene between Wali and Neelam in which they shared past memories with each other was very sweet. Sadly, the sweetness did not last for long! I find most of the romantic scenes in this play extremely nauseating; the scene between Wali and Neelam in which they are discussing their honeymoon plans was anything but cute.

I must say that until now my favorite characters in the play have to be Bare Sahab and Amtul. I find the way Bare Sahab treats Wali rather amusing. He doesn’t take anything that Wali says seriously and rightly so too. Wali may claim to be in a very unfair situation but there are times when it seems like he is making the most of it. Mahjabeen was the flavor of the month when Neelam was away and now that Neelam is back, Wali thinks it is more convenient for him if Mahjabeen minds her own business. Unfortunately, I find the leading characters of the play least likeable. There is absolutely nothing about Wali’s character that would make the viewers think that he is a good person. Mahjabeen has failed to gain my sympathy because I just can’t seem to relate to her character at all. A few more flashback scenes and a more convincing narration of events would have helped build up the character. Neelam’s character has been etched out nicely but Kanza Wyne’s acting proves to be highly “distracting”.

numm1
I must applaud Farah Shah’s brilliant performance right from the start. She has breathed life into a very difficult character and has made it stand out. The relationship between Amtul and Neelam is one of the best things about this play. Neelam and Amtul both are outcasts and victims in their own way. Also, the only time I truly like Neelam’s character is when I see her interacting with Amtul; she knows that Amtul can give her absolutely nothing in return for all the time she spends with her but she cannot help but love her anyway. This goes to show that Neelam is a good person at heart.

Amtul and Wali’s interactions today went to show that there is a tension between the two. The reason for that possibly could be that Mahjabeen is Wali’s Vani or maybe something else. I am sure we will find out in the next ten episodes or so since the mysteries don’t get solved too quickly in Numm, which basically kills the spirit of adding the mysteries to the play. The curiosity to find out what actually transpired almost dies by the time the truth is unveiled.

numm2
Wali, like a spoiled kid is looking for “hobbies” to keep him away from the politics in the house. Bare Sahab had a long list of options, non of which sounded even slightly inspiring but then Wal is not looking for inspiration!

Numm is incomplete unless someone makes some kind of a reference to Mahjabeen’s hair. In this episode as well, once again Mahjabeen sits in front of the mirror, looks at her hair and thinks of the way Wali looked at her when she dyed her hair. The fascination with the hair is beyond me!

Although, I really liked the scene between Wali and Neelam because that scene went to show how they were slowly coming closer to each other but at the same time it was a little confusing. Neelam said that Wali’s father only went to talk to Mahjabeen’s family but in one of the flashbacks we saw that he left home with the intention of killing someone. Maybe that is what Wali’s family told their relatives and friends.

numm4
The background music was very loud and ever present like always. Numm is a difficult play to review because you need to watch it several times in order to make out what is being said. Overall, a much better episode but not the sort that makes up for all the previous boring and dull ones that the viewers had to put up with. A few more episodes like this one and maybe I will have a reason to change my mind about Numm but the next episode’s preview showed more cat fights so it would probably be back to Neelam and Mahjabeen’s fights and who Wali supports *yawn* !

Operation 021 – Pakistan’s First Spy-Action Thriller Movie

After huge success of Pakistani movie Waar, Pakistan’s First Spy-Action Thriller Movie  “Operation 021” is all set to hit the theaters soon.

This movie has been made under the label of One Motion Pictures, production company that is solely dedicated to produce feature films whose president is Zeba Bakhtiar (Adnan Sami’s ex wife) and CEO is Azaan Sami Khan. I am glad that the mother-son duo  have joined the hands of young innovative Pakistani producers.

Operation 021 is based on real life events and also includes bombing of Nato Tanks a few years back in Afghanistan. Starring includes Shaan, who will be the protagonist playing the CIA agent; Shamoon Abbasi, Amina Sheikh and Ayub Khuso.Direction is being done by the Australian director Summer Nicks. Coming towards the music of movie; Songs are six in number out of which three are remixed versions. This movie has been made using latest technology equipments and gadgets to fulfill all the requirements that can make it an international level spy-Action thriller.

Shaan Shahid after receiving millions of applause from Pakistani viewers raised the bar of Pakistani Cinema and we, as viewers, are expecting more from Shaan after watching Waar. Zeba Bakhtiar, during an interview to Express Tribune said,“There is no way of judging what formula works. There have only been a few films of consequence that have been released — right now the scene is open,” She further said that she remembers trying to direct a film in the late ‘90s on a 35mm camera and they used equipment from 60s.We need new generation of film makers who are keen and willing to support Pakistani Film Industry.

Operation-021-Pakistani-Movie-Behind-The-Scenes (11)

Talking about movie making strategies Azan Khan added ,“My mother knows that when we enter the office, she is not my mother and I am not her son. We know each other and have a clear understanding of what we are trying do, and she believes it’s time the younger generation takes the industry forward”.He also said that “We should call a spade a spade — it goes both ways. Anything I do will be compared with my parents’ work”.  So,we can say that this movie is not a result of him being privileged but its his aim to bring something new to the table.

My expectations are quite high from this movie. Have you raised your bar too after watching Waar ?

Enjoy its theatrical trailer and do share your views about this upcoming project.

Aunn Zara – Last Episode! :/

3

Finally the moment that we all dreaded was here & we had to see the last episode of Aunn Zara. Of all the dramas that I have reviewed, I have enjoyed this one the most because I myself am a fan of this drama. Things winded up perfectly but it did leave me feeling that it ended up way too quickly. Thursday’s are going to be empty from now on.

I loved how Jamshed brought up the conversation of him being alone & Nighat for the first time had no considerable answer. She ran out of words before too when Jamshed rejected her on her face in front of the whole family but this time he once again caught her off-guard with the sudden proposal, which left our Nigho speechless. I thought that Jamshed would ask Zara for it but to make things a bit more perfect, he did the honours himself.

It was just so natural that Husna & Daadi didn’t quite understand when Nighat herself testified in front of them about Aunn being the culprit because none of them thought of their ladla being the (excuse my words) kamina. Loved how they continued to complain about Zara but Aunn tried to twist their words once again just to show that he ain’t going to care for her any more, which was his way of dusting off the grudges.

There were a few very nicely done moments, one of them was Zara-Jamshed’s conversation, he looked adorable when he sheepishly told her of the proposal he had extended to Nighat, the other one was seeing them all re-unite & how the elders showed their wisdom was commendable by ignoring Zara’s try of exposing Aunn then & there. At first I did find it unfair because I was expecting wawela from Daadi & Husna’s salees Urdu ke tanay but Nighat & Zara’s conversation afterwards made things perfect because it was another good reality check for Aunn to know how much Daadi & Husna cared for him & didn’t want to make things awkward for already-awkward Aunn but personally I do think he got away with his kartoot way too easily. ;)

Ohkay, I must say, I loved the way Jamshed looked at Ansa Nighat Parveen & what’s more cute was how she left the biggest chunk of laddu & settled on a smaller piece of mithai, t’was enough of a clear notification of her consciousness & her flourishing feelings which she had for her husband-to-be. Finally, Jamshed’s Mohtarmma & Nighat’s Kharoos are going to be together. I know things would’ve become too explanatory but I did expect to see them together like may be a small ceremony or just both of them happily ever after!

I missed Daadi a bit in this episode but it was justified because there were a lot of other aspects which had to be covered & especially Aunn had to be exposed. Accha, who would’ve thought that Aunn will ever stand up for his family? I think the whole Father thing had a perfect closure & the way Daadi supported Aunn & encouraged Husna to see the brighter side was brilliant. Finally, Aunn accha wala bacha ban hi gaya. :)

Lastly, a shout out to the whole team – from writer to the director to the actors & every single person involved, THANK YOU all for giving us a masterpiece with the name of Aunn Zara. Hope to see another venture of all of you together & special thanks to Osman Khalid Butt for making Aunn our special ladla. :D

& special thanks to all the regular readers & supporters,
Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Sannata Epsiode 5 – Interesting Much?

10

What a beautiful piece of artwork today’s episode was. Flawless direction, spot-on dialogues and above all tremendous performance by each and every artist in this play.

Pari’s “chachundar” Azam (Danish Taimoor) made his entry today .Despite of least expectations from him,I was eagerly waiting for his entry in the show. The reason of least expectations from him might be because I have never seen him performing serious roles. And now that I have seen him, I must confess that I am truly impressed by his charismatic personality, expressions and dialogue delivery while doing his job as Azam.

Pari and Azam’s first encounter was quite interesting. At first, she seemed comfortable with him but her insecurity for Rukayya is upheaving to maximum with every passing day. And for that when she observed  Rukayya engrossed in chit chat with Azam all the time, she felt as if she was getting ignored by Rukayya. Consequently, developed a sense of envy for Azam.

It adds another level to the show whenever there is heated exchange of words between Pari and Azam; Pari being ultra-insecure of Azam while Azam enjoying every word that Pari utters and responding calmly and intelligently.

1

Salma’s part is always fun to watch. Her ever confused nature, silly reasoning with Aapa Bi always put a smile on my face. It’s solely because of her husband’s death that she never seemed to be satisfied and happy. Her husband’s death mystery is still an unsolved riddle for all us and I hope when it will get revealed it won’t be of “Khoda pahaar nikla chooha” kind.

3

Pari took it as her insult when she was asked by Rukayya that she owes an apology to Azam. How can our Rukayya Aapa tolerate that her very own Pari is not ready to talk to her. At the very moment when Pari was upset, Rulayya went to her ,tried to make her move a step ahead of what she was feeling about Azam and every word that came from Rukayya’s side worth million dollars. “Pari mai kya houn terai lyai, koi khilona houn jis sey na tu khud khailti hai,na kisi ko khailnay daiti hai”. That whole scene was the most intense scene of the episode and in true meaning was “Moment of The Episode”.

2

Aapa Bi is getting more and more worried and concerned about Rukayya’s marriage with every passing day. At one side Aapi Bi cannot bear Naseeban interference in her family matters but on the other, she knows that no one can fill her space in their family. I found Aapi Bi and Naseeban’s interaction really touchy and the way Naseeban got convinced to go back home proved that she values Aapa Bi and her family more than anything.

4

Azam is not at all fond of his mother because they have nothing in common.Azam is completely family oriented person whereas his mother is fond of partying and hanging around all the time. For her, PR values more than her own son. With all that, her complains that Najma (Azam’s step mother) is applying some cheap tactics to snatch away her son are not at all justified.

Indeed,it was a well packaged episode with a blend of emotions, shades of love and what not.Kudos to the whole team of Sannata!

The Channel Wars – Production Houses Becomes The Focus!

1

There are three main Pakistani channels that we all watch for entertainment. We either tune into Hum TV, ARY or GEO to watch good quality Pakistani dramas. These three channels are definitely the top 3 channels that come to our mind; though the priority sequence may differ from person to person.

These channels have cut throat competition amongst each other and they constantly try to get ahead of each other in terms of ratings and viewership; especially ARY and GEO. They have adopted different marketing strategies from time to time; social media has been their focus for a long time now because it is the best medium to reach out to people. They both have also tried to introduce shows with different concepts (many a times they turn out to be vulgar and cheap) which will appeal to the masses. Yeh Zindagi Hai and Quddusi Sahab Ki Bewa are the classic examples of such shows. They even compete aggressively through their morning shows. The constant high budgeted weddings of celebrities on morning shows are done to attract viewers to watch their channel. They was also a time when they started competing through the foreign content (Indian and Turkish) whose popularity was at its peak a little while back.

If this was not enough, they have now come up with a new strategy. ARY and GEO are making contracts with Production Houses which will restrict the shows produced by them to their channel only. A&B Production owned by Baber Javed and Asif Raza Mir has joined hands with GEO and will now produce shows exclusively for GEO.

photo 2(3)

ARY was not expecting this move and were pretty shaken up because they lost one their most important production houses to GEO. However, they quickly came up with a strategy to counter this move. They joined hands with Six Sigma which is owned by Humayun Saeed and Shehzad Naseeb, and now Six Sigma will produce mostly for ARY. Apart from that, ARY is now also encouraging new emerging production houses which includes names like M&M Productions (owned by Misbah Khalid), MasterMind productions (owned by Hasan Zia), Iron Line Productions (owned by S.M. Abbas) and the recently launched production house by Fahad Mustafa (Big Bang Productions) which launched its first two shows, Meri Beti, and Mere Humrahi on ARY. ARY was taking a huge risk by giving chance to new production houses, but their risk has definitely paid off as new production houses are coming up with new concepts and increasing their ratings.

photo 1(8)

ARY is also collaborating with movie producers and is trying to diversify itself. It is a very smart move taken by them to go one step ahead of GEO. They have collaborated with Humayun Saeed for Main Hoon Shahid Afridi and with Footprint Entertainment for the Oscar nominated Zinda Bhaag. ARY has also collaborated with Mandviwalla Productions for the biggest blockbuster of this year ‘WAAR’ which has broken all previous records of Pakistani cinema, and has earned 11.4 million on its very first day and even after so many weeks the cinemas are still housefull for the movie.

Since HUM TV produces their own shows for their channel, they do not need to compete for production houses. Though it does try to compete on a small level, it is simply no match for ARY and GEO when it comes to marketing strategies or morning show budgets. The main USP of HUM TV is their high quality and high budgeted shows which is enough to attract viewers. One can easily recognize a drama produced by Momina Duraid Productions because of its outstanding quality. No other production house has been able to match up to them so far! HUM TV has a special place in the hearts of viewers and as long as they maintain their production values, the viewers will keep watching their show. Though I believe they should allow some quality production houses to air their shows on HUM TV too. Only a handful of shows from other production houses are seen on HUM TV right now.

I found it very odd that Fahad Mustafa opted for ARY to air his shows instead of HUM TV, when he himself is a host on HUM TV and has good relations with the channel. Does that mean HUM is reluctant to air shows from new production houses?

Only time will tell if this new strategy for competition will gain viewership for channels or will it cause the channels to lose its viewership because of lack of diversity.

Share your opinion about this new strategy adopted by GEO and ARY!

Kankar Episode 21 – Heading Towards A Happy Ending?

0

Kiran’s reaction to Adnan’s proposal was nothing short of a very pleasant surprise for me since I was not expecting Kiran to react in this manner. Kiran deserves to be happy and there is no other man who can give her the kind of affection that Adnan can. Having gone through a very traumatic experience already, Kiran has her doubts about the authenticity of Adnan’s claims but is willing to give this relationship a chance because she has always had a very high opinion of Adnan. Apart from that, these two always shared a special connection. Kiran always felt that Adnan was merely looking out for her all this time, but now she knows better.

kankar1

Arzoo got rid of Kiran’s parrots, convinced her mother that it was okay for Kiran to get married to Adnan and left no stone unturned to convince Sikandar that Kiran wasn’t the ideal woman he always thought she was but the fact remains that Arzoo has not been able to fill the void left by Kiran in Sikandar’s life. Sikandar’s attitude towards Arzoo maybe cold and rude but he has not hit her yet. The reason for that could be that he does not feel the need to control her. He is not as possessive about her as he was about Kiran. Or maybe because this time around his mother made it very clear to him that she is not going to back him up if he does something like that. Arzoo’s attitude made me wonder whether she was putting on an act because she loved Sikandar or only because she would do anything to prove Kiran wrong.

kankar3

Adnan let Rukhsar stop him from getting married to Kiran once but this time around he did not want to lose Kiran for a second time. It was quite apparent that Rukhsar could not stand the fact that her brother was dying to get married to Kiran. Rukhsar’s attitude shows how jealous she is of Kiran. Also, Rukhsar’s situation goes to show how working women are exploited especially in lower middle class households. The only time when I felt for Rukhsar was when she was having a conversation with her colleague. Rukhsar is very sensitive about her own problems but does not think twice before judging others. The way Rukhsar’s mother praised her daughter’s in laws and assured Faiqa that Rukhsar was very happy was rather ironic. She always had so much say when Kiran’s mother did the same and wondered why she couldn’t be honest.

kankar2

Kiran and Adnan’s conversation was sweet and touching. Hassan Niazi and Sanam Baloch have amazing on-screen chemistry which makes their track totally lovable. The honesty with which Kiran and Adnan share their true feelings with each other was truly refreshing. It is plain to see that Rukhsar and her mother are bound to create problems for Kiran. How will she cope with the situation?

kankar5

This latest episode was very slow for my taste. Kiran’s story is moving forward nicely but Arzoo and Sikandar’s track is getting very monotonous. The play really needs to pick up pace now so that the story can be wrapped up decently without putting the viewers to sleep.

Aunn Zara – Last Episode! :/

0

It was just so natural that Husna & Daadi didn’t quite understand when Nighat herself testified in front of them about Aunn being the culprit because none of them thought of their ladla being the actual (excuse my words) kamina.

Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Mere Humrahi Episode 12 – Did Ahad Really Change?

5

The pace of this show has become faster and the story has progressed quite a lot in the past two episodes. Well, more than it had progressed in the first 4-5 episodes. We got to see some new developments in the show this week, and the main one was Ahad’s apology to all the family members.

Haaniyah has finally started to appreciate Ahmed, and feels lucky to have him in her life. It took time for her to realize what a gem she has in the form of Ahmed and how different he is from Ahad, but I think it was definitely worth the wait. Haaniyah has the glow back on her face and she thanked her family, especially her father for his sound judgment about Ahmed.

photo 1(7)Haaniyah had hated the idea of a honeymoon with Ahmed, and now she herself did not want to go back home. The drastic change in Haaniyah is definitely a treat to watch, and I simply love the fact that she is so vocal about her feelings for Ahmed. She is finally opening up to him now! His patience has definitely bore fruit!

photo 2(7)Ahad is definitely up to something, his sudden guilt and apology seems fishy to me. I think he has realized that there is no use of showing how upset he is with everyone and play his game by winning everyone’s favor. He knew that Ahmed loves him the most and if he pretends to be guilty in front of Ahmed, he would make sure everyone forgives him, even Haaniyah. And this is exactly what happened. With Ahmed on his side, he got the forgiveness for all his wrong doing, even from Haaniyah.

photo 4(4)Ahmed for the first time requested Haaniyah for something, and she agreed only because of Ahmed. Ahmed wanted her to forgive Ahad and close the chapter and move on, and this is exactly what she did. ‘Meri Zindagi Mein Koi Haqeeqat Hai To Woh Ap Hai, Aik Haseen Haqeeqat’ Ahmed was flattered by her words of appreciation and really glad that she fulfilled his request too. Haaniyah wanted to make sure that Ahmed knows that Ahad has no importance in her life now and she proved it by forgiving Ahad.

photo 3(2)“Tumne Mujhe Meri Zindagi Ke Bohat Bare Galat Faisle Se Bacha Liya, Aur Mujhe Ahmed Jaise Shaks Ka Saath Mila”

Haaniyah forgave Ahad but not before making him realize how happy she is in her life. The shocked expression on Ahad’s face on hearing this was a treat to watch. Ahad made it clear that he is not ready to move on, and from the preview it seems like he will try to create misunderstandings between Ahmed and Haaniyah. But I have full faith in Ahmed that he would not doubt Haaniyah, whatever the circumstances. He would always hear her side of the story and not believe the obvious.

Once again, I really wish there was less of Samina in this episode. Her nature is truly annoying! I cannot believe she wants to compete with her brother. Instead of being happy for her brother, she wanted to follow his steps. She has become stubborn about her demand for a child, and now even Ahsan knows the reason behind her sudden demand. Ahsan is not ready to agree to her demand because he knows that she would never change. How long will Ahsan stand her? He sure has a lot of patience!

photo 5(4)Haaniyah and Ahmed’s phone conversation and the snooker table scene was extremely cute! I have said it before, and I would say it again, they look like young teenagers in love for the first time. I always look forward to all their scenes. Hope we get more of their scenes in the future!

Life Is different at Backstage-Fashion Industry-The Reality!

You might be getting different ideas with the title been given to the news. Apparently, yes! Fashion industry is often misjudged by the people who do not know much about this field. What becomes visible is the ramp or the cat walks but this field is no way less than any technical niche.

While the viewers see beautiful models, walking on the ramp, displaying the designer clothes, the backstage is all crowded with make-up artists, hairdressers and models.

Aseer Zadi Episode 11 – An Engaging Episode!

2

We got to see another engaging episode this week. This show never fails to surprise me; every week we get to see something unexpected and this unpredictability is what I like about this show. The main focus of the episode was on the ‘big’ misunderstanding that created havoc in everyone’s life.

I seriously love the way Shahab deals with Fatima. She might be able to create trouble for everyone, and control everyone around her, but however she may try, she just cannot control Shahab. She tried to manipulate him against Maira in the beginning, and though she was able to create doubts in Shahab mind, but she still was not able to win his favor. And when she once again tries the same thing, Shahab gave her a reply which shut her up. Even when he was angry at Maira, he did not pay heed to her and once again, when she came and proudly announced their wedding date, he was least bothered. The expression on her face when he said, ‘Waris mein tum se lunga, per muhabbat sirf Maira se karunga’ was worth watching. She was furious at being rejected, and I have a strong feeling that she would come up with some plan soon to keep Shahab away from Maira.

Amna’s misunderstanding created problems for everyone, especially Peer Jalal who did not know why Badi Sarkar was so furious at him. When Badi Sarkar overheard Yasmeen and Shahab’s conversation, I expected her to react badly, but I really did not expect to misbehave in such a way. Peer Jalal sure has patience to withstand such humiliation at the hands of his wife. I felt like applauding him for his patience, he did not react like most husbands would. He is a practical man and did react to her misbehavior instead he just waited for her to cool down.

He thought Badi Sarkar was angry because he gave permission to Maira and Shahab to go for honeymoon without her consent, but Naseemi taunted him and he got doubts in his mind. After getting to know the reality, and what rumors had spread about him and Maira, he was furious. Peer Jalal is a very complicated man, and very difficult to understand. Any other person would have been taken this misunderstanding as a blow to their ego, but even though he was furious, he calmly gathered everyone in the study to clear their misunderstanding.

His calm threat to Badi Sarkar showed that he has a lot of power over her which he can exercise anytime. Badi Sarkar may think everything is in her control, but she can do whatever she wants as long as Peer Jalal lets her. The scene where he proves that he is innocent was pretty impactful in my opinion. Salman Shahid was simply superb in this scene!

Peer Jalal, being the wise man, can judge people accurately and Maira has been able to win his approval. I could not believe at first that he gave Shahab permission to take Maira for honeymoon. He is not the kind of person who would interfere in Badi Sarkar’s matters, but he made an exception for Maira. Maybe because he has a soft corner for her now… Can we expect him to side with her when the need arises? I believe he will support Maira in the future, if not directly, then indirectly.

Shahab and Maira’s conversation near the sea side was one of the scenes I thoroughly enjoyed. I found both of their wishes extremely innocent. Shahab has never been able to lead a normal life, and he craves for freedom to do whatever he likes like any other human being. His whole life has been controlled by Badi Sarkar, and he has always felt suffocated. Being with Maira gives him a sense of freedom, and this is the reason why he enjoys her company the most.

Ohkay, so the preview for the next episode was weird. We will get to see another twist in the next episode, and I am really looking forward to that.

Please share your lovely opinion about the episode!

Kadurat – Episode 15

3

This latest installment of Kadurat showed the aftermath of Alina and Daniyal’s broken engagement. Apart from that, Mahmood finally told Atiqa the truth; a moment we all had been waiting for. The scene in which Mahmood’s tells Atiqa what had happened did not have the impact it should have had. Apart from that, there is a lot about this play that is making very little sense now. For example, I never fully understood Asma’s behavior; why did she walk out on Asad and is now going to marry someone she does not even like? Her explanation about the difference in class wasn’t convincing enough and the way she resigned was also  very unexpected. This particular track did not take off right from the start and is being given the attention it does not deserve. Besides that, the conversation about Shaheen that Mahmood’s family had after Mahmood told Atiqa the truth was very confusing. If everyone knows the big secret now, why can’t they openly talk about it? Also, all Mahmood needs to do now is to divorce Shaheen and this chapter will be closed forever. I hope that the matter is not prolonged further because it already has taken a lot of undue screen time.

kadurat5

I was expecting a more fiery reaction from Atiqa for obvious reasons but her response was actually quite impressive. Her character could have been very likeable if she wasn’t shown as someone who is so gullible. She is very sensible and I like the way she trusts Mahmood. The only aspect of her personality that does not go in line with her character is the manner in which she continues supporting Mina despite of everything that she has done till now. She obviously does so out of respect for her husband but it isn’t humanly possible for a mother to forgive someone who has done so much to harm her children.

Momal Sheikh’s acting was extremely disappointing today. There was a lot of focus on Alina today but too bad that Momal Sheikh could not deliver. I failed to feel for Alina’s character.

kadurat 1

Asma’s khala’s character maybe very annoying and unreasonable but the actress playing it is doing a wonderful job. Having said that, I didn’t quite understand how Asad found out who Asma was getting married to and as a result of the marriage her Khala was going to get rich! Since he found out only a few hours back that she was getting married. Did I miss something?

kadurat6

Overall, this episode was below average. The story could have been taken forward in a much better manner even after all the bloopers in the past. Atiqa knows the truth and there isn’t much to look forward to now since I find myself most disinterested in both the romantic tracks and completely detached from the main characters.

Living On The Edge : Entertainment Vs Ethics

8

Many of us, including my own self, always criticized Living on the Edge and Waqar’s strategy of making it but let me be very fair this time, there are many reality shows that sound similar, look similar but we enjoy watching them and never criticized them because they don’t have a stamp of “Made in Pakistan” with them.

Waqar’s show was also criticized by Hindustan Times that its format is so similar MTV Roadies and this show is violating animal rights. I agree, that this show sounds much like MTV Roadies as I am a die-hard fan of roadies but there are many differences too. Roadies makers, Raghu and Ranvijay, have never shown guts to come up with some tasks that involve animals in show but Our Waqar Zaka does. Waqar Zaka made all points clear during an interview that there are certain confusions about the show including:

1 .Viewers usually complain that contestants of the show are paid. We can clearly watch that youngsters from Karachi to Peshawar come up with courage every year and try their luck to be a part of this show. And whatever they do or whatever they perform is not at all scripted. It’s their choice whether to become friends or turn into worst enemies.

Alizeh-Rizvi4 2. They do ask personal questions during auditions and it is neither scripted nor they are try to make the situation dramatic. It’s just that they want to ask whether contestants are willing to show their life style, their background to the world or not. They never force their contestants to answer personal questions, if contestant is feeling uneasy.

3. They take serious measures to protect their contestants that is why during auditions, contestants have to pass through a pressure test so that they can check whether their nervous system is strong enough because this show is all about bravery and sometimes he comes up with such tasks that can affect people with weak nervous system.

4. Selection is based on the rule of person having nerves of steel and heart of gold. Gold hearted persons are difficult to find so we usually look for valor and bravery one can show. It is also about how they interact in front of camera and tell the world that how much daring they are. Some people often aim in breaking Guinness Book of World Records but again they never ask them to do so, it just adds to excitement and entertainment of show. Contestants have their own choice, all they want from them is to have some pre-prep with the help of which we they can judge and decide that contestant is capable enough to be a part of show or not.

Uzair-Living-on-the-edge-final7

5. Again, coming towards unoriginal content haters claim that this show is ditto copy of Roadies. To make it very clear let me tell all of you that Roadies is travel adventure show where contestants travel from one place to another and sometimes to different countries too.Whereas, in Waqar’s show contestants have to live in Waqar’s Den for 10 days and perform their tasks.

Secondly, Roadies auditions and standard of selection is completely different from Living on the Edge. They select contestant on the basis of their personality traits, their interaction with the judges and to some extent their achievements too but Waqar’s auditions are all about dares. I mean come on, if Superman series exists then was it considered a crime to make Spiderman, Batman series. If Roadies is on air then it doesn’t merely mean that other shows cannot make room for their popularity.

safe_image.php6. Coming to animal rights, firstly let me clear this point that Fear Factor is a show that is followed by most of us. Fear Factor team always add up animals to the tasks. Why on earth they are not questioned in the name of animal rights or so called ethics. A circus lion or monkey is being hit by his master while teaching tricks to it.Pay a visit to the nearest Lucky Irani Circus and you will find out that animals are properly trained to become scary and dangerous for events like our show. Why is there no hullabaloo on that? On serious note, they do not involve such tasks in show that can be called as abuse of animal. Waqar himself performs deadly dares before giving it a name of “task” to be performed next.

So let’s just be fair, this show is for entertainment and not for preaching. We have to judge a reality show by the entertainment it provides not what it teaches us.A reality show requires a lot of effort to be put in during the process of making, editing, direction and everything else and this is the reason why our country lags behind all other in making reality shows. We have to share the ideas that how can this show be made more successful rather than putting on comments full of hatred. Waqar is always open to suggestions and always take them positively if they are helpful enough.

What are you expecting from next season and how do you like this show ?

Stay Blessed,
Rabia Basharat.

“Hum Dulhan Waalai” : A match-making attempt for needy women

3

Few weeks ago, a campaign started at Maya Khan Show and it was named as “Hum Dulhan Waalai”.

Maya Khan is doing a morning show on Express entertainment and she aimed to arrange wedding ceremonies of many needy women whose families cannot afford wedding of their daughters the way they dream of it. Crew of Maya Khan show considered those girls as part of their family and took this task as their responsibility to make best possible arrangements of their wedding ceremony.

mm3Maya seems to be quite confident about the popularity and success of the show. According to Maya khan, this is the proof of success of her show that many channels have started copying same concept and our heading towards same path as Maya khan show’s campaign “Hum Dulhan Waalai”.

I have also seen that it has now become common trend in all morning shows as I watched Shaista Wahidi’s morning show  a couple of days back where she went to a needy girl’s house and interviewed her and took the responsibility of her marriage.

m2I am unable to figure out whether the step all morning show hosts took is a way to attain viewership or they are seriously interested in match making of those poor girls.

Whatever the reason maybe, this step is giving benefits to needy class of our country.

Advertisements These Days!

15

I’m writing this piece just to have a general idea about what our viewers think of the advertisements that we see these days. Advertisements are the strongest brain-feeding strategy that we have because it’s just a matter of few seconds but it does the trick of getting a message across completely. Just some catchy jingle or punch line can end up being with you forever. I remember back in those days I loved diamond supreme foam’s jingle which went on like ‘kaam kaam kaam’, plus punch line of Waves appliances has stayed with me which stated ‘waves, naam hi kaafi hai’. Shaan’s ‘Allhamdullilah, Shaan masalay aik munfarid naam’ is also something that often pops up in mind but I am kind of saddened to see the current advertisements that are running on our TV screens these days.

Right now, it’s just & ALL about Naach Gana. Let it be Sunsilk, Sooper, Q-Mobile, Sprite, Sanitary Napkins, Omore, 7UP, Coca Cola, Tarang, Pampers (kid doing belly dancing) & so on, all that we see in these ads are a bunch of youngsters or stars – basically a group that is dancing. I never knew that dancing was the best strategy to sell a product & attract customers. As far as I learnt during my Marketing sessions, it was all about making people aware of what your product is, not about how you’re going to act after you buy or use it. Right now, I hardly remember any ad or the punch line but what I do remember is jumping jacks dressed differently in each & every commercial. I do understand that someone might jump with joy by the sight of Tea tray approaching them but what I fail to understand is the need of people dancing just by seeing some sort of a tea-milk (Referring to Tarang)? Is it really such a joy? If anyone would dance while shampoo-ing, they’ll end up in the hospital because of the slippery surface it may produce. One might choke to death if they’d jump while drinking fizzy drinks & a biscuit will make you cough too if you eat it while dancing. Ice cream will melt because you’d be focusing more on the moves plus no one ever has been seen using a mobile while being air-bourne, it’s just not right. The ads look exactly as pointless as the arguments I’ve written.

Back then there were so many perfect advertisements that ran on the TV without being obscene or meaning-less. Currently, a couple is giving some sort of weird looks to each other, some girls dancing because they’re being free, boys dancing because they found something kewl to drink, these are the strategies our commercial makers have opted for because they think it’s the best way to make a mark in the viewers minds. No offence to Faisal Qureshi/Jawad Bashir’s team but I must confess that the useless comedy in Ufone commercials actually gets to our nerves now, we’ve seen you making us laugh for like a decade so it’s better to resort to something else, please.

I must say that Ramzan’s ad by Olpers every year has to be my favourite amongst all, where it doesn’t only focus on the festivity that month carries it also very decently promotes the product too. I think that’s the best way to make an impact & that is by emotionally stirring a thought rather than hiring people to dance for you just because you perceive your product to make someone dance like a lunatic in the middle of the road.

It looks like marketing people do not want to brain-storm & come up with the creative ideas or ways but in stead they just rely on the easiest way out because that involves lesser thinking. I hope that the commercial makers step back a little & re-think at how they want to promote their brands because these days it’s nothing more than a musical hideous headache that one sees in the form of our commercials & the only preventive measure is to change the channel.

Voice your opinions please.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Mujhe Khuda Pe Yakeen Hai – Episode 12.

Ohkay, that was a time-pass episode with nothing much going on & no scene matching the other. Just a few tid bits were new & the rest were just repetitive.

Areeba & Arham’s scenes were enjoyable. Namaz scene was the best & it showed Areeba’s mentality in comparison to Narmeen’s. Areeba may be simple but she has a lot more compassion than anyone else. At least her feelings for Arham are honest & that’s what makes her a good wife. I apologize for having a keen eye towards details & for that I noticed Areeba being in the car when Arham stopped by the flower shop but later when he gifted her those flower bracelets, she looked so surprised as if she never knew Arham went to a florist. I mean…really?

It is good to see Arham being open & honest to Areeba about his inner-most feelings & tells her everything straight away but what’s annoying & in fact unnecessary is the comparison he does of her with Narmeen every time he is either praising Areeba or having a happy time with her. Areeba’s ‘safai dene wala’ question to Arham seemed so odd at this time because when he was actually telling her the story, it would’ve been a perfect fit at that point of time but here after he has told her every single detail & for us, after so many episodes, her question ‘appne safai kyu nahi di’ was a miss. Areeba has counselled Arham in every way possible, she is all ears to his problems but still he says he feels this ‘ghuttan’, I think it’s a high time Arham should snap out of it, I mean please!!!

I have been saying it & I will say it again that I am bored of bored-looking, not-bothered look that Mikaal carries around in every drama. His not-interested, least-involved characters & those stuck up expressions are simply annoying. At this point, I feel he lacks acting skills because he looks so stiff & uncomfortable. I have seen so many similar roles that he has played in fact the only kind of roles he has done but still I can’t seem to grasp those expressions from him because he looks tired actually. A high time either he should change his style, be more picky about the roles or the casting directors should stop casting him for ‘Bezaar Shohar’ sort of roles.

Now tuning into my typical mode, couldn’t help reading between the lines because that’s what keeps this drama interesting to follow for me. Narmeen who actually tells Shahiq to sleep while Arham took a walk in the garden was dressed in purple but later while Arham & Areeba are on their way to their room, Narmeen makes an entry in the red dress. Plus wasn’t she the one who told her own husband to sleep & not meddle in Arham’s affairs so what was the point of her making that appearance that too after changing the dress late at night? I once again heard the specific tabla during Narmeen’s mother’s scene & couldn’t help laughing at the imagination that rolled (if you can’t get what I’m talking about, please refer to the previous episode’s review, lol).

I must say the stylist should’ve opted for a better beard wig for Arham’s character because it looks like a completely dried out piece that was once soaking in water but it was wrung out & hanged in the balcony for the sunlight to evaporate the remaining moist. LOL. Please, get some nice beards or else don’t degrade it by showing such ‘sookhi darhi’. Fazool!

Accha, Arham told Areeba that he saw Narmeen getting infatuated with & attracted to Shahiq…but when did it actually happen? Arham all this while kept on asking Narmeen ‘tumne aisa kyu kiya’, ‘tumne aisa kyu kiya’. Plus wasn’t THIS fact supposed to be treated as a final revelation of Narmeen’s nasty tactics & the main reason of why she plotted against Arham? Wasn’t it supposed to be revealed in the end that too after everyone found out as to why she accused Arham for his insincerity? But in front of Areeba, he sounded just so normal that he saw it coming because Narmeen started taking interest in Shahiq whereas all this while he was just oblivious & kept on asking why he had to go through all this? I must say that the conversations stir without any base here in this drama just like Shahiq (even before Areeba got a proposal of Arham) told Narmeen that Areeba is over the moon with the idea of getting married to Arham because she likes him. I mean c’mon!!!

Accha, the biggest flaw was Shahiq’s arrival to his home after office hours. At first he was seen coming too late & tells he had 3 ohkay, not to forget ONLY 3 cups of chai in his office but the next time he came, scorching sunlight was sneaking through the window & later his mother asks ‘tum itna late kyu atay ho office se, hum tumhe DINNER pe miss karte hain’. It was shown as if he was quite late once again but it was almost an afternoon time. I mean really? Didn’t they themselves laugh while saying those dialogues because either we can’t be fools or they shouldn’t be. Shahiq is shown as a glutton whose only concern is the food. Teen cup chai & later ‘mujhe bhook lagi hai’. Aaaa, no one’s actually interested to know those petty details, really. My point in discussing these dialogues is that at one hand Arham/Areeba’s conversations sound like some excerpt from profound Urdu novel & on the other some dialogues are based on gharelu masail. Whoever the dialogue writer is deserves a salute from me plus I want to thank him/her for making me cringe with the excessive wrong use of two words Khuda & Mazhab. It is ALWAYS Allah & then Deen, Islam being a code of life is not a mazhab, it is deen. I hope they get their facts RIGHT.

The episode ended at such a cuteeeee note. Arham jiss ki appni Ammi se koi frankness hai nahi actually had the guts to pass a statement frankly about Narmeen in front of his mother awwww, LOL! I love this drama. :)

Desperate Attempts To Promote Upcoming Serial MOL

33

The competition between channels, writers, producers and everyone associated with the drama world has never been as intense as it has been in the past one year or so in particular. The reason being that there are innumerable entertainment channels that are readily available to the viewers, not to mention the fact that the drama makers do not only have competition from the local market but the foreign dramas are very popular among the masses too. Add to that the different mediums that are now available to promote these dramas – different entertainment sites, facebook, twitter and what not. In such a scenario the producers usually work very hard to sell their product to the viewers. We all know only too well that the viewers do get influenced by the hype created by the people concerned and automatically look forward to a certain drama.

mol

Anyone who uses facebook would know how hard the people behind upcoming serial Mol are trying to get noticed. When all else fails post a picture of Fawad Khan and keep on telling people that he maybe part of the drama when there is nothing definite about it. I find it highly unprofessional that such tactics are used to gain people’s attention and also people who use Fawad Khan’s name to get fan following should also know that Fawad Khan does not have the credibility that he had once. The facebook pages keep on giving different kind of information every second day. One day they will tell you that Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan will be playing the lead and the next day they will give you names of five different actors who are being considered for the role. Yes, people do watch Fawad Khan’s plays till the end even if they are as bad as Ashk and Numm but isn’t it a insulting towards the actor who may actually end up playing that role? Also there is more to the play than just one person. How come we don’t see these facebook pages promoting the writer or the director? What is even more interesting is that the Mol’s official facebook page describes it is “an upcoming mega drama serial”…err talk about being over confident!

How many people still fall for these things? I find such attempts very desperate whether they are made by artists or producers. If an artist acts well, he or she is bound to have a good fan following even if the viewers do not see his or her fan page being advertised ten times a day on ten different pages. And at the end of the day it is the quality of the drama that counts and not the amount of effort that has been put into promoting it.

Sanam Baloch and Farhat Abdullah Reception Pictures

31

One of the most fascinating weddings of the year has finally reached to the end of celebrations where Sanam Baloch and Farhat Abdullah were seen celebrating their reception with friends and family. Unlike any other showbiz associated wedding, this marriage is a result of a complete privately held affair where media got a really less exposure to cover the event. The news of the wedlock caught fire on social media where Sanam’s official fanpage got viral with the wishes.

Soon after the ceremony, the event pictures started releasing through unofficial sources and here are finally the photos of the reception ceremony which was recently held. The couple looked extremely amazing together where the groom wore white sherwani while the beautiful Sanam was found wearing a golden bridal dress.

Rishtey Kuch Adhoorai Sai – Episode 11

On serious note, I had no expectations from today’s episode but I enjoyed watching it this time.I got tired of roti dhoti Gaiti but today I saw her smiling. How refreshing.

Arsal is now realizing that his efforts are of no use, Gaiti will get comfortable with him with the passage of time.

It was so predictable that Gaiti won’t be able to utter a single word in front of Arsal when she called him while he was in office. I found Arsal so keen to listen what Gaiti wants to say and I was cent percent sure that he would have never applied those strict rules to his wife (if she told him the reality) which were ironically told by him to his employer.

Gaiti,by nature, is loving and easy-going girl but her life took such a fierce turn that she had to become rigid and stiff for Arsal though she had feelings for Arsal right from their first meeting. Gaiti loves to have chit chat with Salaar, she feels satisfied after getting loads of prayers from Daado and what not. Arsal knows that Gaiti is not finding it easy to get herself emotionally attached to him but he cannot help to stop praising Gaiti all the time.

Aliya and her mother’s discussion about Gaiti and her mother’s meeting was fun to watch. At one side, mother was asking Alya to not indulge into Gaiti’s matters and at another side she was keen to know minutest detail of the meeting she had with her mother. How typical of her. By the way, Alya proved her cheapness and envy for Gaiti by creating a story of her own that Gaiti and her mother are planning for Salaar and Kiran’s wedding.

Now coming towards the serious part where Gaiti’s yelling was heard by Kiran; I was kind of surprised by her reaction to the situation. She neither seemed happy nor was she sad. It was, without any doubt,a shock for her and she has developed a sense of enmity and hatred for her mother as soon as she came to knew that it was merely her mother’s fault. In spite of knowing everything, she did not take any serious step, instead, she remained quiet and asked Gaiti to Let-it-go.

I have now started enjoying Gaiti’s father harsh attitude; Just tell me one thing which makes him happy ..I mean har cheez sai he masla. He really needs help man. :P

That call on Alya’s phone sounded fishy to me. Is she still in contact with her ex-husband or her divorce was just a drama to create hype and fuss. Whatever the reason maybe, it will be unfolded in upcoming episodes soon.

Rishtey Kuch Adhoorai Sai has to eradicate the Adhoorapan now and needs a strong twist in story otherwise I am afraid, it will lose its few remaining  followers too.

Let’s see what this show has to offer next.

Kabhi Kabhi – Episode 07

12

Ohkay, honestly I’m sort of confused to come to a conclusion about this drama because one week they come up with perfect emotions & perfect episode but on the other we’re exposed to long, meaningless & dragged scenes with not even some good conversations. This episode was just ohkay or we can take it as a passing by episode.

I find Eshal very optimistic about things in life. Even though she personally heard what Soni & Amman spoke about & they actually came across as lalchi log but she didn’t even pay heed to what they said & in stead complained to her father for not taking care of her in-laws for which she walked a mile just to make her in-laws feel better & happy.

As far as I can understand, Arez’s mother is a rational & normal person who doesn’t bother about things much but the one who actually uses her as a puppet is Soni. I’m amazed at how quickly her brain works & how she thinks things through. I must say Sana Askari has done an amazing job in making Soni look completely irritating & I love the fluency of her expressions. She makes Soni look like an actual ‘nand’ who’s proving to be a nightmare for ‘bhabhi’. It is sad though that the mother actually forgets her calm & starts acting whenever she hears Soni complain about anything.

The whole gift’s lena dena scene was a bit too dragged, wasn’t acted out well & seemed unrealistic. The only people who worked well in that particular bit were Bushra Ansari & Mehwish Hayat. Eeshal wanted to keep things normal & hence, kept on covering for the blunders Eva made, whereas her mother-in-law forgot about Eshaal & focused more on things which were gifted to them.

Eeshal’s intentions & feelings were pure & she didn’t want to make some sort of a statement by bringing expensive gifts for her uncultured in-laws, but in fact she did use her father’s money to bring smile on their faces because for Eeshal everything is just as simple as it can get. Her father has money, she knows it, doesn’t make an issue of being someone from a higher class but grabs the money & do things her way. This is what I like about her character that’s been etched out so far. She cried & wanted to run to her Dad which made her look like a quitter & someone who got a bit too scared of Saas-Nand taunts but what she later did was unexpected. Plus she has had two nasty encounters with in-laws behind Arez’s back, one where Soni was speaking to Amaan against Eeshal & the other where Soni was caught red-handed stealing Eeshal’s things but still she didn’t lose her cool & didn’t even bother complaining to Arez about what had happened & this makes her a very wise person who’s adapting the change in her life very care-freely.

Ohkay, I must say, I don’t find Eva interesting at all. We’ve been told a million times that she’s dumb & there’s no need to prove by her ‘mai-hoon-hi-nahi-is-dunya-ki’ one-liners. She can’t tolerate humidity in front of Eshaal’s MIL (mother-in-law), she wants Fresh Orange Juice, she thinks Shahraiz thought of her as a Chicken Sandwich & was too scared of Hell being hot. I mean c’mon!!! She is not someone who’s mentally challenged nor she’s uneducated, so what’s the point of showing her as a FOOL, in literal sense that too. Eeshal mentions ‘Eva not being so smart’, Rehbar mentions ‘he got married to someone stupid’ & what my point is, I don’t get nor do I want to get the point or plot behind this. IF there is a reason behind Eva being such an un-intelligent dumbo, they should’ve established a plot by now. Did anything happen to her when she was a kid? Or any sort of trauma she went through? NO! Because at the time of shopping & glamorizing herself, she beats everyone around but when it comes about reactions on normal situations, she has a mind of a 6 y/o. Her character is really confusing & I don’t think there was a need to show someone as dumb without any background or solid reason.

Both of these families are unusual but the only normal people are obviously Arez & Eeshal. & yes, I found Arez completely funny when he literally threw the shirt just because his mother asked him to. I am guessing he’s the same Arez who took stand for Eeshal in front of her own dad & accepted the humiliation just because he only wanted Eeshal, but now when he has gotten her, he doesn’t even care about her feelings, while knowing too that she was already insulted & questioned about her choices of gifts. He should’ve ignored what his mother said because Eeshal bought those gifts for him with love.

I think we now we know Eeshal’s in-laws better, so I am hoping we see something interesting & less dragged. Wasn’t a great episode but hoping the next one would be better with smaller scenes.

Waar – Some mixed opinions

16

While film WAAR is making new records of business on box office, some journalist and film makers have also expressed their opinion on the film mainly on twitter; this article is based on tweets and re-tweets by them on WAAR. It should be noted that a Tweet is a personal opinion of any person, not to be considered as official point of view of organization they work for. I here also want to acknowledge that most of the names of journalists are taken from the article on film WAAR by Haseeb Ahmed who usually surprises us with some unique and interesting topics.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, who won the first Oscar for film Saving Faces has watched WAAR and mentioned it on twitter

soc

Raza Rumi, is a journalist who works mainly for Capital TV. Here are his tweets

Murtaza Solangi is a senior broadcast journalist and former director general of Radio Pakistan. His opinion on WAAR

Rafay Mehmood is an arts and cultural journalist who also writes film related critical reviews and articles for English Daily Express Tribune

Hamid Mir is a journalist and columnist and works for Daily Jang and Geo News. He is famous for his program Capital Talk.

hm

I have tried to find some more professional critic opinion on WAAR, but apart from Rafay Mehmood, Murtaza Solangi and Sharmeen Obaid, there is same rhetoric of funding by ISPR and army rather than on technical aspects of film. On a personal note, I would say from ages we complain our government is not supporting local cinema and films which off course is true. Now If ISPR a government organization has provided logistics support for a film, what is wrong in it, in the end it all counts towards support and prosperity of local cinema.

Also now our local cinema is reviving there is a serious need for some film critics and journalist too. In past we had some very talented and professional film critics and journalists like Ilyas Rashidi, Ali Sufiyan Afaqi, Yaseen Goreja, Riaz ur Rehman Saghar, Hope to see more youngster coming as positive critics who will  follow footsteps of these legends.

Thanks.

Formula Films won’t work from now onwards : Ahsan Khan

8

Formula Films have pretty predictable kind of structure and don’t have any story different from routine movies. In short, repeated and reused plots and storyline makes a flop formula movie :) .

ahsan-khan

During an interview to Express news, Ahsan Khan said that masses of our country have developed their sense of differentiating good and bad. They know which movie they should go to watch in theaters and which not. He further advised to Pakistani Film Makers that People of our country are also expecting to have International quality films that can be released worldwide.

We should realize the need of the  hour now; Great and worse movies are part of every Cinema’s culture but we need to eradicate this culture and have to bring about our own trend of movies. If we want to revive Pakistan Film Industry and If we want our cinemas to be over-occupied again, we have to make movies having different story lines.

By making worse quality films, Film makers are not only ruining their time, money and energy but also wasting time of public. He said that movies are great source of entertainment and movie making is among profitable businesses in the world. If we will work faithfully, we will definitely come up with quality content to meet our viewers expectations like recently released Pakistani movie that did great business due to marvelous cinematography.

Shak – Episode 2

27

Yet another well-packaged episode came to an end. Story of the show is unfolded very skillfully and brilliantly by director today. Whole team is performing to its best and is compelling us to expect more and more from this show.

I was pretty much relieved when I saw Romaan Ali Khan Sahab completely safe and sound after he met through an accident. Sehrish’s reaction to the situation was predictable ; she had no children, still she cared for Romaan more than any woman who is blessed with the blessing of having a kid. I literally enjoyed  bandage part where Sehrish was following the commands of King Roomi with a lovely smile on her face :)

Sehrish had a yearning desire to have a kid and Romaan was somehow fulfilling her intense craving. Because of Roomi, she met Sania and yelled at her to the worse. Accha, I was expecting same Kashaf or Mina kind of reply from her but her character is completely contrary to the role of Kashaf or Mina. She stayed calm and quiet as it was the part of her nature.

Sania is spending her life with Roomi and her mother in law(Badar Khalil). Her disability to walk somehow developed sense of inferiority complex in her that is out bursting on Sania every time and every step she takes in presence of her. From giving medicines to every meal, Sania is always wrong for her. For that, she complaints her son, Ali (Sania’s husband) whenever he calls him.

One thing, I really like about this show is that both couples, Sehrish and Ehteshaam, Ali and Sania are etched out perfectly and portrayed as happily married. Where Sehrish and Shaam share lovely informal chemistry, Ali and Sania’s relation was of give-and-take-respect kind. Ali trusts Sania to the fullest and Sania forgets her pain and sorrows whenever Ali share his hard times with her. Ali was betrayed by his business partner and he is striving hard to earn his living and pay back all the loans while living in South Africa.

Unlike Sania’s fate, Sehrish was lucky enough to get a dream mother- in-law. I enjoyed every bit of light chit-chat that Sehrish and her MIL had with each other. The exercise part, Maham’s call and Sehrish’s reply sounded so cute and interesting to me. Sehrish knows that she is among few women who are fortunate enough of having this kind of MIL and she was too possessive about her and values her. Both of  MILs are like obverse sides of a card ; where one is brutal and harsh in nature, other is always easy-going and delightful.

Sehrish realized once again how lucky is she when she went to Sania’s place along with a cake and heard her MIL scolding and yelling at her. And then That Nazar utaarnay wala part was laughable one and fun-to-watch.

Sania recalled her past when she had an encounter with Ehtesham and her mother as her neighbors. She was once engaged to him and it can be seen that both of them had no emotional attachment. There relation didn’t work because Shaam wanted to marry Sehrish. For them, this relation initiated and ended in a glimpse of time and both of them had no regret of it.

Sehrish is still unaware of the fact that Shaam and Sania were engaged once. I am expecting that her unawareness will lead this serial towards its main theme “Shak”.

I am looking forward to more of this show as I am getting addicted to it.
