Zindagi Gulzar Hai Episode 11 – Satisfying!

Zaroon and Kashaf’s lives have gone on totally different tracks after University and the difference between the challenges that the two face in life were even more obvious today. Zaroon easily managed to clear his CSS exams and rightly thinks that ‘zindagi mei kitni aasani se kitna significant change aa jata hai’. He cannot in any way relate to the struggles that Kashaf, a girl who studied in the same college with him, has to go through in order to get even minor things done. Kashaf put her career on hold in order to help her mother to get her sister married. I have to say that although I was not really looking forward to this particular episode because I guessed that there would be more of Kashaf’s family and Zaroon/Asmara in this episode than anything else but the scenes in the first half especially were very heart wrenching. They were beautifully directed and I could feel the love that Kashaf, her sisters and their mother feel for each other. I did feel though that Rafia should not have insisted that Murtaza should attend the wedding in particular, I quite agree with the notion that if the proposal could have been finalized without the presence of Murtaza, the wedding could have taken place without him too. We also found out in today’s episode that Rafia even kashaf sidrahgave her jewelry to Murtaza’s second wife when he got married to her. I understood Rafia’s concerns in the first half of the show and she was right in hoping that Murtaza may just have a change of heart but later on I felt that Rafia was letting Murtaza walk all over her. And now after everything that has happened, I see absolutely no reason why Rafia should expect anything from Murtaza.

Did anyone notice the sounds in the background when Zaroon was writing his diary? The biggest change in Zaroon’s life will be that he will be moving away from his family and starting an independent life, something that he is very excited about. Luckily, there zarooonwere just a couple of Zaroon/Asmara scenes in this episode and the confrontation that the two had seemed like nothing new. The issues Zaroon is having with Asmara are the same which he has had with Sara for a very long time. I have to agree with Sadaf that it is difficult to keep track of time in this play and many times I am left wondering, how much time has elapsed between different happening. I am guessing that three or four months have passed till now from the time that Zaroon and Kashaf left the university.

I have to say that although I did not have any high hopes from this episode but for me at least it delivered for most part. I think it was important to show Murtaza’s attitude and also the way Rafia and her daughters struggled to get Sidrah married. It seems like things are going to move on for good in the rafia sidrahnext episodes and the tables will turn. How satisfying would it be if Rafia asks all these people who want to be best friends with her all of a sudden to leave them alone. A father like Murtaza deserves just that. I have to say that today’s episode belonged to Mansha Pasha, Sanam Saeed and Samina Peerzada and must give all of them and the director credit for breathing life in these scenes.

The Nigar/Haleema scene I think was quite unnecessary, everything else worked fine for me. I am guessing that we are going to see more of Zaroon and Kashaf’s lives separately for the next couple of episodes or so until they meet again. Overall, this episode was quite satisfying although the general opinion may be quite different! Bring it on guys!

Sanam Saeed’s Kadurat to Air Soon on HUM TV

0

Whether it be Daam, Mera  Naseeb, Talkhiyaan or Zindagi Gulzar hai, Sanam Saeed has always proven herself as a flawless actress. Adjusting herself according to the need of role, Sanam has added a real charm to her role. Zindagi Gulzar hai has added new members in the fan list of Sanam, yet that is not the end, in fact Sanam i recently caught in the promo of a new drama serial Kadurat on HUM TV.

kadurat

The promo itself speaks much about the story where Sanam seems to take revenge from the ones who made her suffer by taking away her dad and wealth. The Drama also has some talented actors beside Sanam, further contributing as success ingredient. Deepak Parwani, Angeline Malik and Junaid Khan are also a part of the show. This would be the second time that Sanam Saeed would be seen with Junaid Khan, first been Matay-e-Jaan. Sanam looks totally different from what she is liked for in Zindagi Gulzar Hai and Talkhiyan.

kadurat1

The Channel has yet not revealed the date of the airing of the show yet the serial seems to have a huge awaited audience even after the first few hours of its promo.

We Wish the entire team of Kadurat, a very best of luck for the project,

Mirat-ul-Uroos Episode 8 & 9 – Review

0

“Shadi kabhi bhi is tarah nahi kurni chahyeh ke kuch ke liye bhoj. Kuch ke liye tamasha aur kuch ke liye hasrat bun jaye.”

Don’t these four lines describe the kind of marriage most girls dream of having nowadays? Most of the people who can afford it and those like Ayza and Hammad’s family who cannot afford it too become a part of the rat race because of their children. Asghari and Amna had to be only two people who talked sense all through these two episodes. The men did not think they would have much of a say so mostly they decided to keep quiet and rest of the family members gladly followed Ayza and Hammad’s lead. Although Aima is a very sensible girl but somehow personally I am not enjoying the stark difference in the personality of the two sisters, probably because we have had an overdose of sisters who are complete contrasts in the past one year. I would have liked it better if the story was about Ayza alone and it showed how a woman can change everything about a household (and not always in a good way!).

I have to say that I really enjoyed the way Hammad changed overnight, every little change in Hammad’s personality made me chuckle because I have seen many such men around me. The way Hammad changes his priorities and does not even bother asking or even informing his mother was no exaggeration at all. Hammad takes everything in his own hands from the wedding cards to the changes in the function and gives the excuse “ab hamei dosto aur rishtedaron ke samne sharmindgi nahi ho gi” and Rafia buys it too. Am I the only one who felt like this line seemed like one of the funny –sarcastic-lame jokes that we hear at the end of Ufone advertisements?

I must give due credit to the director for doing a great job of showing the wedding functions, the details shown were totally in line with the story. Usually there is a lot of hullabaloo about marriage functions in dramas but they are never shown properly because of obvious reasons. Hamnah’s In Laws also expect a grand wedding like that of Hammad and I am thinking that this is only the beginning of the series of problems that Rafia is going to face due to the changes Hammad has decided to made in their lifestyle in general too and not just the wedding function. Honestly speaking, I was not expecting Rafia to be as understanding as she is being till now. Could it be because of all the things that her bahu brought with her? It was very evident that Ayza was out to impress her In Laws and she succeeded too. I really liked it when Asghari said, ‘agur unhu ne apni aukat se unchi chalang lagai hai tu iska yeh matlab tu nahi ke hum bhi thapar maar maar ke apna muu laal kur lei”

wedding

The Ayza/Hammad track definitely kept me hooked through these two episodes because I found all the happening extremely relatable. The Aima/Hashim track on the other hand seemed to be quite repetitive and the contrast factor did not appeal to me much. Although Aima told Hashim loud and clear that her parents could not afford to buy her a car but he is still expecting one…all I can say is that shame on him and every man like him! Sadly there are many such men in our society who openly ask their wives to be or their families for things and later on boast about it too.

All the actors did a wonderful job in these two episodes but there were times when I felt like Amina Sheikh wasn’t very well-suited for the role. Samina Ahmed and Ayesha Khan(senior) both are spot on as Asghari and Akbari. Some of the scenes were more predictable than usual, I could actually tell what response someone is going to give to someone and when someone is going to hang up the phone, on what note the conversation will end etc. Overall, I enjoyed these two episodes much more than any of the previous episodes mainly because I found the changes in Hammad very relatable and interesting, Umera Ahmed most definitely has great observation and she has penned down these characters perfectly.

Kahi Unkahi Episode 14 – Calm Before The Storm

0

So this episode had much much progress especially in terms of Sherry’s feelings. He has gotten a lot more clear in & as how he feels about both the ladies.

It was just safe how things got concealed in front of Mr. Kamal. He shouldn’t have known about it because it would drag the whole situation much longer. It was something good that they wrapped it up quickly. But I was amazed to see that even after knowing what sort of family Anam belongs to & Mrs. Kamal herself doesn’t like her, she didn’t say anything & kept on worrying about their engagement & the gifts & shopping. Being a mother, when she felt that she doesn’t find Anam suitable for Sherry, she should have lead him in the right direction & helped him come out of his confusion. I mean, being a mother that’s what she is supposed to do or may be she has become numb after spending years away from her son.

Even in the Sherry-Mother scene we saw her saying ‘Zoya hum mai se nahi hai’. At one hand, she can sacrifice living with her son just to do good to Zoya & now she is considering her as a low life too. It came as a disappointment. When Ansar was talking about the whole situation, he said that Sherry still has some soft corner for Zoya. At that point Mrs. Kamal was like ‘tum kya keh rahay ho?’. I mean all this while she knows what Zoya means to Sherry, ever since he has moved back, he is talking to her, taking her to the party, spending time with her on the beach & on the beach he told his mother that he is ready to commit to Zoya & after all this Mrs. Kamal’s question seemed totally out of the line. Sometimes, I feel that the dialogues are poorly written & the dialogue writer has not paid attention to even the basics or else he/she forgets what they had written about certain situation in the previous episode. I hope we don’t get to see such meaningless conversations.

Mr. Parvez’s family has been totally exposed in front of Sherry, Mariam, Ansar & Mrs. Kamal, yet none of them raised an objection on this engagement. Everyone seemed to be pretty cool with whatever happened. Was it because it happened with Zoya? Or that she is a driver’s daughter, so that misbehaving with her didn’t mean anything? Anam & her brother, both lack basic etiquettes & are nothing but rich spoiled brats, so why no one is bothered about their behaviour  In the beginning, when Mariam’s character was introduced, she sussed that Sherry actually likes Zoya, but why didn’t she try to have a conversation with Sherry to actually know what was going on with him? Ansar no doubt handled the situation wisely & exactly like how an elder brother should. He knows how to talk to the people accordingly that’s why he sternly threatened Zeeshan, knowing that’s the only lingo he would understand. But Ansar seems like such a stupid person when we see him involved with Seema. Why is he doing that? They should shed more light on it. lol!

Well the preview of the next episode was perfect & just exactly based on the moment that all the viewers must be waiting for. Sherry will finally reach to the decision where he is not ready to get in a commitment with Anam & on the other hand Zoya is all depressed on hearing about Sherry’s engagement. After seeing today’s episode I am waiting a lot more for the next one.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Stars We Want To See More Often

0

There are many stars in our televisions industry who are immensely talented and it is always a pleasure to watch them on-screen but for some reason or the other they do not appear on-screen as often as we would like to see them. There are some stars who are very selective about the kind of work they do, others are busy with their families or giving time to other fields with which they are also related. Many of the stars in our industry are multi talented, there is hardly any actor who acts alone, many of them host shows, sing and some are even involved in production and direction. This could also be the reason why we don’t get to see these actors as often as we would like to. Here is a list of few actors who I think do not appear on-screen as often as we would like to see them.

sanam balochSanam Baloch:

Sanam Baloch Is an actress, model and a hostess and she excels in all three fields. Sanam Baloch’s work is a proof of the fact that she is extremely talented and takes what she does very seriously. Her performances in Doraha, Daam, Dastan and Durr-e-Shehwar in particular were unforgettable. After watching Durr-e-Shehwar in particular I waited anxiously to watch this diva on-screen again but I must say that Roshan Sitara and Nadamat both failed to bring out the best in her. Although Sanam Baloch was spot on as the bubbly character in Roshan Sitara but unfortunately the play itself failed to make an impact with the audience. Sanam Baloch has done full justice to her character in drama serial Kankar, no one could have played this character better than her.

I am anxiously waiting to see Sanam Baloch in another play which will bring out the best in her. She is definitely one of those stars who breathe life into every character and someone you would want to see more of.

asif raza mirAsif Raza Mir:

This highly endowed gentleman needs absolutely no introduction. Words fall short when it comes to praising his talent. He is an actor who fits perfectly in serious and comedy roles and no one delivers dialogues like him. Apart from being a very gifted actor, he also has a very charming personality and wants to do whatever he can in order to make Pakistan’s drama Industry progress. The reason why we don’t get to see to see him on-screen often enough could be that apart from acting, Asif Raza Mir also has a very big production house to run and he has always been running a business too.

babar aliBabar Ali:

I must confess that I was not a big fan of Babar Ali to begin with but his acting in “Ik Nazar Meri Taraf” completely blew me off. I honestly did not think he had in him and found it difficult to believe that an actor like him who has always been doing larger than life characters in films could mould himself in a character which was quite unlike many that he had played till now. Babar Ali has proven that he is a very gifted actor and a good script and director can bring out the best in him. My list would have been incomplete without his name here because ever since “Ik Nazar Meri Taraf” Ended, I have been waiting to see him in a good role.

alishbaAlishba Yusef:

Alishba Yusef’s fans don’t get to see enough of her ever. Her acting talent was wasted in Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley and she has not appeared on screen ever since.  She is a great actress and also totally adorable. She has earned a very good name for herself in the industry in a very short span of time. I would really like to see Alishba in lead roles and I am hoping that she does not go off screen like many of the other actresses who are involved in different fields of work.

nadia jamilNadia Jamil:

I think the sole reason why we don’t’ get to see this wonderful actress on-screen as often as we would like to is that her heart is still set with theatre and even now she is busy working in International theatre projects and is hoping that she will be able to do her country proud. Nadia Jamil studied drama from Hampshire College and Allegheny College and she believes that her degree and the experience in theater both really helped her in her acting. Nadia Jamil’s first play was “Putli Ghur”, it was a long play that is still fresh in my mind and I go and watch it over and over again whenever I get time. Having family commitments is also another reason why Nadia Jamil does not appear in dramas too often. She has nailed every character she has ever chosen and definitely is one of those actresses who illuminate the screen with their presence. Watching her in the telefilm Behad was an absolute delight but I do get the feeling a little too often that we don’t get to see her often enough on screen.

I must share something with all of you, I made a similar list a few months back of actors who were not being seen often enough on-screen and quite interestingly all those actors who were rarely seen on-screen started working on regular basis…coincidence of course! Are there any actors who you want to see more often on-screen? Do share your thoughts.

Shoaib Mansoor to reunite Junoon and Vital Signs

0

We know shoaib Mansoor as a film maker who has been adding stars in the film industry of Pakistan by giving movies like Khuda ke Liye and Bol, What most of you might not be knowing is the fact that Shoaib Mansoor has been contributing in the music industry as well through his song writing and music composing.

On the other hand, we have lately heard about Junaid Jamshed looking back to vital signs and the news has been verified by Shoaib Mansoor who has had composed most of the vital signs songs back in 1980. Shoaib was Junaid’s mentor and also produced many songs of the band. Sharing the breaking news on his Facebook Page, Shoaib declared his new project “Naya Pakistan” with the help of  Junoon and Vital Signs launching new Pakistan Anthem in Feb 2013.

shoaib Mansoor

The news still seems like a rumor where Junaid Jamshed prefers to remain silent about the matter. Up till now, there has been any official news from the bands but yes a click has been seen on the social media where all these singers are found together for a musical cause.

Lets see how far the news is correct, but there is one thing for sure that the Junaid Jamshed fans would be delighted to have this new Pakistan Anthem from their very own Junaid.

Overdose of Actors and Actresses in 2012

0

Last year was filed with shows that gained immense popularity. However, it was exasperating to see the same faces in every show on every other channel. Here is a list of actors and actresses who were seen in multiple shows on different channels at the same time:

sabaSaba Qamar:
Saba Qamar became popular for hosting the parody show, Hum Sab Umeed Se Hai. 2012 would be the most successful year of her career as she starred in a variety of shows like Maat (one of the top plays of 2011-12), Thakan, Jo Chale to Jaan Se Guzar Gaye, Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai (another hit play), Mein Chand Si, Shehreyar Shehzadi, and Na Kaho Tum Mere Nahi.
Although her plays were excellent and most of them were hits, it was kind of annoying to see her on every other channel at the same time. On top of that, her roles were pretty much the same in every serial. She played the role of a typical woman in Thakan, Jo Chale to Jaan Se Guzar Gaye, and Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai. But she did manage to show her versatility through her role in Maat as Saman. It was one of Saba Qamar’s best performances!

sajjalSajjal Ali:
Sajjal is another actress who was seen in many serials in 2012. She was seen in shows like Ahmad Habib Ki Betiyan, Mere Qatil Mere Dildar, the hit show Meri Ladli, Mohabbat Jaye Bhar Mein, Sitamgar and Qudussi Sahab Ki Bewa and the long running show Mehmoodabad ki Malkain. She has done a lot of work in a very short time and has become a popular household name.
She has done a variety of roles; negative, positive, as well as grey shaded. But then again she should be a little selective about her shows. Shows like Mohabbat Jaye Bhar Mein should be avoided and it is about time she quits the show Mehmoodabad ki Malkain.

mikaalMikaal Zulfiqar:
Mikaal has improved a lot overtime as an actor. He is another actor seen in a number of serials in 2012. He has performed in the best serials of last year like Dur e Shahwar, Manjali, and Shehr e Zaat. Other serials include Adha Din Puri Raat, Talafi and Saath Pardon Mein. He had chosen well but then again his negative and grey shaded roles were the same in every serial. It was kind of tiring to see him in the same kinds of roles all year long. He needs to introduce more variety in his roles.

ayezaAyeza Khan:
Ayeza khan is another actress seen in many different roles last year. She was seen in shows like Shaadi Mubarak, Mera Saeein 2, Zard Mausam, Mahi Aye Ga, Kis Din Mera Viyaah Howay Ga 2, Mi Raqsam, Kaala Jaadu, Aks and Kahi AnKahi. This is one big list! She has left every other actor behind by giving 9 back to back serials in a year.
We saw her doing many grey shaded characters which proved her versatility. Her role in Zard Mausam and Aks were very much appreciated by the audiences. But seeing her in negative roles on every other channel was a bit tiresome and made the shows lose their appeal.

zhalayZhalay Sarhadi:
Zhalay is another actress for whom 2012 has been a very successful year. She was seen in many shows like Nadamat, Aks, Madiha Maliha, Kahi Ankahi, Sabz Pari Laal Kabutar, and Daray Daray Naina. Her role in Aks and Madiha Maliha was very much similar and since they were both airing at the same time, it took away the charm of both the characters. I am personally tired of seeing her in the same roles. It was kind of surprising to see so many shows of her at the same time as she used to do limited roles before.

samiSami Khan:
Sami Khan has been seen climbing the ladder of popularity these past few years. He was seen in popular shows like Meri Ladli, Kaala Jaadu, Sirat e Mustaqeem, Shaadi Mubarak, Sabz Pari Laal Kabutar, Dharay Dharay Naina, Teri Rah Mein Rul Gai Way and Mein Guneghar Nahi. But one thing which irks me about this very talented actor is his choice of roles. Why is it that in every serial he plays the guy who never gets the girl? And why does he always appear in serials produced by A & B Productions? It is extremely vexing to see him in the same kind of roles in every channel at the same time. I personally like him as an actor but a little versatility would be highly appreciated.

Why Can’t We make Good Commercials Anymore?

0

Many months back I wrote a post about some noteworthy advertisements; making a list of a few advertisements that were absolutely delightful to watch and many people especially those living abroad really liked those commercials. These commercials had a little bit of everything in them, some sentiments, a message and they were executed beautifully. Now after so many months when I thought of making such a list again I realized that there isn’t even one TV commercial at the moment which has that effect on me and which has the wow factor. I think for a Television viewer commercials are very important because whether we like to or not we have to watch these advertisements. Just the other day while watching Zindagi Gulzar Hai, I could not help but criticize every single commercial I saw during the advertisement break and it sort of spoiled the drama watching experience for me. Commercials do not have to be boring and passive but they can be just as engaging as the dramas themselves. I do realize that making a good commercial is tough job because you have to get your message through to the consumer in a very short span of time and make them sit down and pay attention is quite difficult but surely we can do better than what we are doing at the moment.
Am I the only one who feels that most of the commercials nowadays are just plain lame? Even if the ideas are innovative, the execution does not appeal to you at all. For example the Olpers advertisement in which the lady talks about choices that a woman has to make in life etc. I think the idea is excellent but the way the idea has been put into words is not the least bit impressive and the model’s body language just makes you yawn. Ufone commercials have always been great with a touch of wit and humor but even that is getting repetitive now and seeing the same faces over and over again does not help. Watching Saba Qamar dressed up in the most unimpressive attire in a fairness cream’s advertisement just added to the disappointment. Saba Qamar is talented and beautiful and perfectly capable of attracting the audience for the right reasons too, so why resort to such tactics?

olpers

Almost every year I eagerly look forward to the commercials that are made specifically for the month of Ramzan but this year around there were hardly any advertisements that were made especially for the month and even those that were aired in the month did not strike a chord the way they usually do. Are there any commercials on air at the moment which you enjoy watching? Or most of them are just putting you to sleep? Do you feel like our advertisement agencies are losing the creativity needed to come up with new and interesting ideas? I do believe in star power but I also think that just hiring pretty and popular faces is definitely not enough. I hope someone out there is listening and few of the brands like Nestle, Olpers and Ufone which have given us many memorable commercials will gives us more to write home about.

Another Bollywood Movie ‘David’ banned in Pakistan!

0

Bollywood is one of those media industries that enjoys a great business all over the world and strangely, the country having the most disputes with India, contributes considerable large in getting the business for the movies that are been released in the country-Pakistan. Pakistani Censor board has again dumped another Bollywood movie to be released in the country in for cinemas for the reason that the movie- David, holds the content that goes against to the national interests, promoting a wrong point of view regarding Islam and the armed forces of the country.

David Got Banned In Pakistan

David is an action thriller, starring Neil Nitin in a role that seems against the reality of Pakistan and the religion Islam. While the Chairman of Censor board was questioned about the ban, he said that the movie showed the Muharram procession in a song in a totally wrong way, showing no respect towards the ideologies been followed by the Muslims.

The Muslims of India too have raised their voice against the movie but the Indian Government has preferred to stay silent on the issue. As for in Pakistan, David is banned just like Ek The Tiger and Agent Vinod. However, it is expected that the dvds of the movie would soon be available in the Market just as it normally happens for other movies that the censor board Bans,

We, The Muslims would highly appreciate the ban on the content that violates the interests of our Religion and Country,

Best Wishes,

Aik Nayee Cinderella Episode 15 – A New Side!

This episode was too much of a drag. Some scenes were not needed at all like all the Zaini scenes and the gardener scene. Not much happened overall in the episode. Zaini is back in Mayer’s life and is trying to create problems between Mayer and Meesha. Mayer is constantly being told that he is in full control of Meesha and would do anything that she says. We saw him getting extremely angry when he heard the same words from Meesha herself. This is the reason why his bubble completely burst when Meesha argued with Bano and he went and slapped her. I was very shocked to see this side of Mayer! He was guilty afterwards and even though Bano told him he did not do anything wrong, he was still very upset.

Bano is still trying to make Meesha’s life miserable by making rules for every second of her day. Bano is finding it impossible to change Meesha. Meesha is still seen socializing with the servants and she even came in a disheveled state in front of Bano’s guest and this embarrassed Bano. She even rejected Meesha’s dream wedding dress. She had always thought that she would wear the dress on her wedding and Bano brutally rejected it and called it a cheap dress. She also did not like the fact that Meesha bargained for the price since it is against her standards. It was the first time Meesha got really upset and she ended up having a fight with Mayer. She actually called him a Mama’s boy. The look on Mayer’s face was hilarious! I couldn’t help but laugh at this scene! Zaini and Meher were seen gloating about the fact that Mayer slapped Meesha. How pathetic!

There was still no progress seen in Roman and Meesha’s relationship. Meesha is still under the impression that Roman has played with her feelings. Roman was happy to see that her behavior with the rest of the people has not changed. She is still the care free, loving, and caring Meesha. Roman noticed that only her attitude with him has changed but he cannot figure out the reason. We also saw a lighthearted scene when Roman and Meesha go for shopping and the shopkeeper thinks they both are the couple! I doubt Meesha will ever change despite Bano’s attempt to change her. Meher was once again seen filing Bano’s ears against Meesha and according to her Meesha has been spoiled by her Dado. Really Meher! Please have a close look at Zaini.

I feel really bad for Aimee who is trapped in a prison by Shah Baba. Poor girl kept on screaming but to no avail. Farjad saw her disheveled state and went back to plead with Shah Baba but he is not ready to release Aimee. Shah Baba has a new plan now! He has decided to go and get Meesha himself and he has every intention of getting her married to Farjad. Farjad did tell him about Meesha’s upcoming wedding but Shah Baba has full intention to get her back at any cost. Qavi Khan is doing a great job as Shah Baba. The negative role is suiting him a lot. Another character I felt bad for is Dado. Zaini is so care less and selfish! She actually forgot to bring Dado’s medicine due to which Dado’s health deteriorated.

The preview for the next episode seems more interesting. Shah Baba has reached Mayer’s house to take Meesha with him. Will Meesha go with him and get trapped? She is clearly not happy with the marriage as she doesn’t want to live with restrictions. She has already lived with restrictions most of her life, thanks to Meher. I hope Roman and Meesha’s misunderstanding clears soon.

Coke Kahani Last Episode- A Wonderful Journey!

0

I still cannot believe this show ended so abruptly! It was one of the best shows on air. It was a lighthearted show which always managed to cheer up my mood whenever I saw it. Each and every episode of this series is very special to me. I can re watch this series anytime and I really hope they come up with a second season!

Each and every actor of this show has given a great performance. My favorite characters were Nusrat and Mutmain Sahab aka Shamim Hilali and Syed Mohammad Ahmed. They created magic with their amazing chemistry! Sonia Rehman and Faisal Rehman also did a great job as Maya and Asfand. They were reunited by their daughter Zoya after many years of separation. It took time but they were finally able to settle their differences. I was happy to see that Asfand finally opened up to Maya and shared his problems with her. He was ready to leave everything and move to Florida with her. This made Maya realize how much he loves her and she decided to stay back. Zoya was the happiest to hear this as it was her dream to get her parents back together.

coke kahani

Saad finally got the guts to propose Ruqaiya just hours before her flight. He was adamant on getting married to her before her departure! It was the cutest scene of the episode. His Gujrati proposal was unique and impressive enough to make Ruqaiya say yes to him. Way to go Saad!
We saw a completely different Beydil in this episode. He had finally become responsible and caring. He is no longer the useless person whose only work was to do Shayari. He helped Maria when she needed financial help instead of buying the car he had been saving for. Maria was surprised and happy to see the change in Beydil. They make an adorable couple! Yasir Hussain and Maheen Rizvi as Beydil and Maria have done a very good job! Adnan Jaffer as Jugnoo has also performed brilliantly. We saw him in a completely different role and he was able to do justice to it. I missed him in the last episode!

Now coming to Zoya and Rayaan aka Syra Yousuf and Ahmed Zeb! They both have acted brilliantly in this show. Ahmed Zeb’s performance did not look like a newcomers’ performance at all. They both have worked hard and it was visible on screen. Zoya and Rayaan both were surprised when their parents started asking them if they were interested in each other. Their first reaction was shock, and then they thought about it and considered the possibility of it in the future. This means they are definitely interested in each other. Zoya was also happy to see the change in Rayaan. He had finally become responsible and has left his care free attitude towards life. Behroze Sabzwari’s guest entry was a pleasant surprise and it was a very enjoyable scene!

Overall, this series deserves a 10/10. We finally got to see something different and unique and the credit goes to Mehreen Jabbar who came up with such an innovative concept. Mohammad Ahmad’s script was simply fantastic and Mehreen Jabbar’s direction gave life and soul to it. I really hope we get to see more sitcoms like this in the future! It was a breath of fresh air for me as it was different from the other depressing dramas on air. The comedy shows on air needs to learn something from this show. This show has brought a revolution to sitcoms. I am really going to miss this show!

Are Actors Belonging To Renwoned Families Overshadowed?

0

It is an established fact that actors who are sons or daughters of famous actors and actresses are always compared to their parents and other members of their family. They are more harshly judged as we tend to think that “if the parents are good artists then the children have to be just like them”. The pressure on them to prove them self is more than any other actor with a normal background. Here is a list of actors who have been constantly compared to their popular parents or experienced actors of their family:

shehrozShehroze Sabzwari:

Shehroze Sabzwari is the son of the veteran actor, Behroze Sabzwari. He is a model turned actor and debuted from the movie ‘Khulay Aasman Ke Neeche’, which was directed by Javed Sheikh. Saleem Sheikh and Javed Sheikh both are his maternal uncles and he belongs to a family full of experienced and renowned actors. His cousins are Momal Sheikh and Shehzad sheikh. He debuted in the drama industry through the show Ana. He was also seen in shows like Maamta, Karachi High, Badtameez, Parsa and was recently seen in Tanhaiyaan – Naye Silsilay.  He is also seen as an ambassador of Telenor and Pepsi.

Since he belonged to such a renowned and established family, the expectation from him was high and he was not given the leverage that is normally given to other newcomers. He was criticized for his performance at the beginning of his career as he did not match up to the standards set by his father. But we have seen a lot of improvement in his acting in his latest show Tanhaiyaan. I hope he establishes soon and makes a name for himself in the industry.

shehzadShehzad sheikh:

Shehzad sheikh is the son of Javed Sheikh, who is one of the most popular actors of Pakistan film and drama industry. Shehzad debuted with the youth show ‘Dreamers’ alongside Annie Jaffery, which became a hit among the youngsters. He was next seen in Mi Raqsam opposite Ayeza Khan. He will also be seen in the upcoming show Teesri Manzil.

He is another actor who has failed to impress the audiences. His dialogue delivery is very weak and he needs to work on his expressions. He needs to prove that he is more than a face with a strong background. He will always be compared to his father at every step! He definitely has a long way ahead of him.

yaminaYamina Peerzada:

Yamina Peerzada belongs to the famous Peerzada clan, a family full of artists. She is the daughter of Saadaan Peerzada. The renowned actors Usman Peerzada and Samina Peerzada are her paternal uncle and aunt. She made her acting debut on television from the show ‘Rangeel Pur’ written and directed by Usman Peerzada, on PTV Home in Nov 2010. Her second serial was A & B’s “Roag” directed by Babar Javed. She was seen opposite Mohib Mirza in this serial. She is currently seen in the show Barf. Not many people would be aware that she has also performed as a puppeteer with the Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop in Pakistan, India, Turkey, Italy, Scotland, France, Norway and United Kingdom.

She gave a good performance in Roag and was appreciated but yet again she would always be compared to the spectacular performances given by other members of her family. Samina Peerada’s work is incomparable as she has done some very powerful roles. The harsh reality is that she would always be compared with the experience actors of her family.

momalMomal Sheikh:

Momal Sheikh is the daughter of Javed Sheikh and the sister of Shehzad sheikh. She worked for Hum TV at the beginning of her career. She never opted for acting before as it is rumored that Javed Sheikh did not want her to opt for acting. She started her acting career after her marriage. She was last seen in the show Aitraaf. She has a lot of shows lined up such as Koyla Hogai Main, Mujha Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai, and Dard Ashna.

We have not seen much of her work to judge her at this point. But surely, her performance will always be compared to her fathers’! This is one disadvantage of belonging to a family filed with brilliant artists.

mehreenMehreen Raheel:

Mehreen Raheel is the daughter of Seemi Raheel, another famous name of the industry. Mehreen had started modeling at a very young age and appeared in lots of commercials in her teens. She was seen in popular serials like Meri Zaat Zara e Benishaan, Mastana Mahi, Dastaan, and Ashk. She is currently seen in the show Zindagi Gulzar Hai. She also debuted in films from Jawad Ahmad’s movie Virsa, opposite Indian actor Arya Babar.

She is known for her typecast roles in every other serial. She is an average actress and needs to show her potential by performing a variety of roles. But at the end of the day, her performance will always be compared to her mothers’!

Daagh Episode 15- Guilt and Regret!

0

A superb episode! One of the best episodes of Daagh so far! Meher Bano has given a spectacular performance once again. Her silence spoke louder than words. Her pain reflected in her eyes and it was evident to the viewers. But the star of the episode was Sana Askari. She has played Deeba’s character to perfection. The rapid change in Deeba’s behavior has been depicted brilliantly by her. We saw a totally new Deeba in this episode that is spoiled, selfish and ill mannered. She can go to any extent to get what she wants. She wanted Murad in her life and she did everything in her power to get married to him. She has every intention to take revenge from Umama for stealing Murad from her. Frankly, she seems mentally unstable to me because of the way she behaves.

A total disappointment in this episode was Murad. He needs to speak up! How can he let Deeba humiliate Umama? I cannot believe he is the same Murad who moved heaven and earth just to get married to Umama. Deeba badly insulted Umama and practically kicked her out of her own room and Murad did not say a word to Deeba. He also watched her rude behavior with his children quietly and only spoke up when Deeba slapped his daughter. It was the best scene of the episode when Murad screamed at Deeba for misbehaving with his children. Umama was happy to see that Murad still loves his children and stood up for them. But her happiness was short lived as Atiqa asked her if he would be behaving the same way when he gets a son from Deeba.

Murad is angry at her mother for getting him into this mess. But I personally think Murad and his mother both are at fault. Murad knew what he was doing and now he is stuck with Deeba. He cannot even think of divorcing her because Deeba’s clever mother had kept 25 lakhs as Mehr and Murad can never pay such a huge amount.

Another heartwarming scene was when Umama was leaving her father’s house. She had never gotten a proper rukhsati on her wedding but this scene seemed as a compensation for it. Umama’s father apologized to Murad for his behavior and thanked Murad for taking such good care of Umama. There was only guilt on Murad’s face as he knew he did not deserve the thanks after what he had done to Umama.
Umama’s cries made my heart go out to her. She had the flashbacks of all the promises Murad had made to her and she kept on thinking what a fool she was to believe them. I was happy to see that Murad went to Umama despite Deeba’s disapproval and anger. He clearly told Deeba that she cannot stop him from going to his first wife. Way to go Murad! I doubt Murad will ever learn to love Deeba. He can barely stand her at this point. Fahad Mustafa has done a brilliant job as Murad!

Aqeela has finally started to value Umama and for the first time I saw her showing love towards her granddaughters. She has stopped taunting Umama and started appreciating everything she does for the house. She has finally seen Deeba’s true face and cannot help but regret her decision. Deeba’s behavior with her is completely unacceptable. I have a really strong feeling Deeba will start scheming again to win over Murad. She will follow her mother’s advice and start behaving differently. She has already made Umama’s life hell; now we have to wait to see as to what extent she can go to further humiliate Umama. Let’s see what her next plan would be!

Bari Appa Episode 20 – Smooth yet rough

0

So this episode was again based on the bits & pieces that we have been seeing in the previous episodes. It does not mean that I did not enjoy watching it, obviously I did but now I want things to get settled quickly as we’re already on episode 20 & still the climax is unclear & unpredictable. I guess the unpredictability adds to the beauty of the drama & enhances the originality of the script but still some more progress please!

As usual in the very first scene Zubaida once again got the chance to rant. How easily she manages to look down on anyone even if a person is standing right in front of her face. While she was at Sharmeen for her single decision that she took to go to her Granny’s house, Zubaida involved Essa in between & right in front of Neelam she regarded him as some cheap goon. Sharmeen has completely given up her hatred for Neelam & now seeks her support whenever she can.

Firdous on her own was furious at how easily Ghazanfar has forgotten about her. I guess Ghazanfar at least should have made a move because it’s the first time that Firdous took such sort of a step. He can not ignore all the sacrifices she has made & how happily she has accepted whatever she was given by him. I hate to see Ghazanfar acting all mean at this point especially. Sharmeen, who has no wisdom is still trying to handle the situation but little does she know that it won’t make a difference because she is the one who caused all the chaos in Firdous’s life.

Farmaan’s awakening was dreadful once again & came as a thunder bolt to Neelam. After all that she has done for him & his extended family, this was the least that she expected. She still made her point very clear that money is the last thing she needs from Farmaan because all this while she only has waited for his company, his presence & his role in their son’s life. Farmaan’s realization which was obviously in the favor of Zubaida came after her rant in the morning after she confronted Sharmeen. I couldn’t stop wondering that how easily Zubaida claimed that she has a lot of people who still look up to her & who can look after her but she is definitely unaware that these sort of sweeping statements look perfect hypothetically & when it comes as a reality it is as harsh as let’s say her husband’s second marriage. Farmaan’s claim that he was at fault when he got married to Neelam took her down to the shambles. He could’ve said anything but this that too after seeing how patiently she has been dealing with the situation where she sees that he can not utter a word in front of Zubaida & she keeps him on the edge.

Zubaida once again in order to take care of Ghanzanfar forgot that she left Farmaan & Neelam alone in the house. She never misses a chance to hound them but as usual when it came to Ghazanfar everything became secondary for her. She left the house & knowing that no one can call her or keep a track of her, she posed that no one is calling her or is worried about her just to gain more sympathy. It is obviously crystal clear that she still has some strong feelings for Ghazanfar & this time in clear words she admitted that she regrets not getting married to him as she said she didn’t like big bungalows. Definitely she got money that she wanted so that she could support her family but she couldn’t come to the stage where she could forget her fiancé. That is the reason she has always detested Firdous because she got what Zubaida wanted. Even though she had no such money that Zubaida had but Firdous had what Zubaida wished for & to some extent still wishes for.

Essa-Sharmeen-Adeel trio was boring to the core. I didn’t find even a single scene of them interesting nor I wanted to know what they were up to or what they are planning. Once again Sharmeen lied & sneaked so that she could meet Essa. Adeel swooped in at the right time & saw what he wished he had not. Essa has bid his final good bye to Sharmeen but we still got to see what is going to be the next move in the scenario of this trio.

The preview of next episode was engaging & Farmaan is finally going to make some move. Seems like he is coming to a stage where he will sternly make his point clear to Zubaida. Can’t wait to see more of this.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

The race or perhaps the silent competition among the best drama channels, to be accurate, Geo TV, Hum TV and ARY digital seems to be on a heavier side for the ARY. Geo, for its telecast of foreign content has suffered lately, whereas, people are often find talking about the repetition of concepts on HUM. ARY has been coming up with some magnificent piece of work just like Mera Yaqeen and Tanhaiyaan-Naye Silsilay which recently came to an end and the new projects are now all ready to replace these in every way possible. What makes this month extremely exciting for the drama viewers is the new drama serial Silvatien that would be aired from 7th February.

72513_490681524306962_1778262734_n

Making her debut as a Directer,  Shehrazade Sheikh has given all her experience of assisting Mehreen Jabbar in Daam. The serial is written by Samira Fazal, therefore that itself is an enough valid point to give high TRPs’ to the serial. The cast of Silvatien seems to be carefully chosen as the drama would bring Amina Sheikh with Adeel Hussain once again after Daam. Mira Sethi, the daughter of the famous Journalist (Friday Times) will also be seen in the drama, making her debut. Mohammad Ahmed and Shamim Hilali are also seen in the promos that are been aired on the channel.

Azfar Jafri’s “Siyaah” to Release this March!

0

Pakistan’s Cinema is reviving, though slowly, but what is more evident is the fact that the producers and directors are now learning from their mistakes and are acquiring the techniques that have been picked by those directors who came up with something different, such as Shoaib Mansoor. According to the latest reveals, Azfar Jafri, a renowned Movie Maker, is now coming up with his horror thriller labelled as “Siyaah”.

Siyaah-600x337

Been inspired by the work of Omar Khan in his “Zibahkhana”, Azfar decided to come up with something similar yet very different that would probably won the hearts of the viewers. The director of the movie did admit that though he isn’t a horror movie director, but what he believes in is the idea and the individuality of the story line. The movie is based on suspense though the officials haven’t revealed much about it. It is assumed that the project might hit  a good record, similar to that of Bol or Lamha- Seedlings.

Cinema Houses seem excited with the news as they believe that the movie has got the content that would attract a huge audience, in return, generating a good market for them too. The movie is said to be released on 15th of March.

Lets see what this new project brings in,

Best Wishes,

Zindagi Gulzar Hai Episode 10 – No Fireworks!

In this latest episode, We saw a very reluctant Zaroon being ‘pressurized” into getting engaged to Asmara and Asmara on the other hand flaunted her engagement ring as if she had just won herself a ‘trophy husband’.  I am actually surprised that it is only now that Zaroon is realizing that Asmara may not be the kind of girl he wants to get married to. I think the sole purpose of this engagement is that Zaroon understands better what kind of a wife he wants, not that he does not already have very clear idea as to what kind of a girl he wants to marry. He has stated over and over again that he does not want a wife like Sara or his mother so how could he not see that Asmara is exactly like his sister and mother? I really enjoyed the conversation in which Asmara suggests that Zaroon should get married to Kashaf! Kashaf is very opinionated as well and also has proved to Zaroon that she is just as capable of shouting at him as any other ‘feminist’ but even then Zaroonxaroon asmara has failed to find any flaws in Kashaf. Why is that? Maybe because Kashaf takes a stand for the right reasons only and her opinions hold a solid ground.

Hammad got the welcome he deserved from all the three sisters and I absolutely enjoyed Shahnila’s idea! Murtaza may have showered his son with everything that money can buy but he can never compete with his daughters where intelligence is concerned. The Murtaza/Hammad result scene was little too long for my liking but I must say that it was very real.

engagementKashaf manages to get back at Zaroon the way she knows best and the look on Kashaf’s face was priceless. For now Kashaf and Zaroon are going to go their separate ways because college life is over. Zaroon and Kashaf both know only too well what they want to do with their lives and I am glad that Zaroon paid no heed to Asmara’s advice.

The scene where Sidra says to Kashaf , “paise tu tumhari nazar mei bhi buhat ahem hai” was spot on, Kashaf’s reply was one that we don’t get to hear in our dramas everyday and one that made me like her character more. It did not take Kashaf long to answer Sidrah’s question because there is no confusion in her mind about what she wants from life.

Overall this episode had a little bit of everyone and was not as intense and exciting as the previous two. I am not looking forward to the fact kashhthat the next couple of episodes maybe more about Zaroon and Asmara than Zaroon and Kashaf because the Zaroon/Asmara track  usually gives me the feeling that I am watching the same scenes over and over again. I wish Zaroon wouldn’t have gone ahead with this “experimental” engagement, he really should know what he wants better than that! Sara’s constant cribbing about Farhan not being the “sweet and obedient’ husband she expected him to be was another part that seemed repetitive since Zaroon has lectured Sara about similar issues many times before too and sometimes I feel like these siblings have nothing better to talk about. I did not quite enjoy the hype surrounding the engagement in the University and many of the other scenes could have been shorter too. In short, after the fireworks last week this episode seemed a little too mellow.

Actor turned Singer – The New Trend?

0

We all have heard about singers like Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar, Komal Rizvi, Bilal Khan, and Junaid Khan who turned into actors. It is an old trend for singers to try their luck in acting and surprisingly, they turn out to be more popular actors than singers. However, the new trend is of “Actors turning into singers”

MEHWISH HAYATAt the top of my list is Mehwish Hayat. The model turned actor who has been seen in many hit shows like Thori Si Wafa Chahiye and Mere Kaatil Mere Dildaar. It came as a huge surprise to everyone when she sang the song ‘Pani Barsa Hai‘ in her recent hit show aired on Geo TV, Manjali. Then we saw her singing the title song of the show ‘Meri Behn Maya’ which was a very catchy song and then came the melodious title song of Talkhiyan. Talkhiyan’s title song is one of the best I have heard. Her voice gave life and soul to the song. And recently she gave another hit title song of the show ‘Mirat ul Uroos’ which airs on Geo TV and Mehwish Hayat is also part of the cast. She has proved that she is not only a very good actress but also a very good singer. Her versatility has left everyone in awe of her. I hope her singing career flourishes just as her acting career. Good luck to her!

AYESHA OMERThe second person in my list is Ayesha Omer. She is a model, VJ, host, actor and now has turned into a singer. She is known for her famous character of Khubsurat in the comedy play ‘Bulbulay’ which is liked by masses all over the country and abroad. She is another actor who turned into a singer. She always had a beautiful voice but it was not known to many people that she is a trained singer.
She sang the beautiful song Khamoshi which was later used for the OST of the drama Manjali. There was also a video made of this song which featured Ayesha Omer herself. Her voice makes one spell bound and her tone and pitch is just perfect! She is a formally trained classical singer and was also fond of performing arts and always had the desire to sing which no one took seriously until she decided to try her luck in singing. She started performing with underground rock bands like Mind Riot and The Cell, and with the NCA music society later in her life. She acquired fame with two of her hit singles, Aao and Koi To Ho. Another one of her famous song is Mun Chala Hai.

BUSHRAThe third person in my list is Bushra Ansari. She is not only a very good actor but also an excellent host and writer. The plays written by her like Dil hai Chota Sa had become very popular. Her show Brunch with Bushra was one of the best shows on air at that time. She always had the passion to sing and she has been seen singing on various occasions. She was often seen singing in her show ‘Brunch with Bushra.’ She has a beautiful voice which everyone admired and praised. She always preferred to sing old songs and has sung the famous song ‘Kuch Dil Ne Kaha’ which was originally sung by the Indian legend Lata Mageskar. This song was the OST of the drama Kuch Dil Ne Kaha which was written by Bushra herself. She never had the desire to sing an original or official song but she finally sang the official OST of the show’ Dil To Bhatkay Ga’ We hope to hear more songs sung by her in the future!

Mirat-ul-Uroos Episode 6 & 7 – Review

0

ayzaThis play surely sheds light on a social evil that is highly rampant in our society and is very widely accepted in the name of status symbol; the social evil I am referring to is dowry. The way Ayza gives her parents a long list of all the valuables she wants in her dowry was actually something very relatable because I have seen many girls around me who consider dowry their birth right and like Ayza’s mother points out if the parents do not fulfill the unreasonable wish lists the children consider them ‘gunahgaar’. Ayza has been very smart till now, having direct communication with Hammad has yielded the desired results and now Hammad too feels like it is obligatory for him to have a grand wedding. This is another aspect of the play that is very real, there are many men who do change their standards overnight after they get engaged or soon after they get married. The things that were unthinkable for their mothers and sisters become easily acceptable when it comes to their new wives. Rafia is losing her son fast at the hands of the bahu she dearly loves and feels proud of and honestly speaking she still has no idea what is coming her way!

There are two things I found very interesting in these two episodes. The first was that although Akbari has spoiled Ayza so much but the truth is that she is not willing to spend a penny on her marriage, everything that she says to her son is only to blackmail him into given into her demands. When she finds out that Ayza will take Guddu with her, she instantly talks to Rafia because she knew only too well that she won’t allow it and that way Ayza will get another servant and she will get to keep Guddu!! The second interesting thing that I noticed was the way everyone blames other people for someone’s actions. For instance Akbari blames Asghari for convincing Rafia to talk to Amna about the servant issue, Akbari blames Amna for Ayza’s father’s limited budget, Rafia thinks that Ayza is a very nice girl and it is Akbari who wants a grand wedding and there are so many other examples.

Aima does not like it at all when everyone gives (undue) credit to Ayza for the cooking and rightly so too. The differences between the two sisters became more apparent in these two episodes.aima

There are two things that seemed somewhat awkward to me. They made it sound like the set that Ayza chose was very heavy but it did not sound like that to me, I think all middle class families give this much gold to their daughter-in-laws. Secondly how could a diamond ring which Hammad has brought for Ayza be equivalent to the property that Rafia will have to sell now?

These two episodes focused on Ayza more than Aima and the issues that were discussed by the family members were more or less the same as the ones in the previous two episodes. The only new development had to be the change in Hammad’s behavior towards his family, which we could all see coming!

Although, everything about Mirat-ul-Uroos till now has been very relatable but I have to say that the screenplay is not engaging enough and the story till now has been very predictable, which takes the excitement away. There is not even one character in the play that stands out and makes you take notice and no outstanding dialogues that give you goose bumps. Honestly speaking I expected much more from an Umera Ahmed play. Missing a couple of episodes would mean you haven’t missed much, so for now the drama definitely lacks the must-watch factor.

Kahi Unkahi Episode 13 – Sherry-Zoyee Story

0

Well I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. It was interesting & focused much on Zoya & Sherry which most of the viewers were waiting to see. I totally loved seeing them together because they make a superb pair.

Zoya has finally achieved what she wanted & now she can materialize her dream which she thought for Rajjo. Her mother took a good step & it actually gives us a dimension that even if we start taking care of small things around us, it does make a huge impact over all. Sherry was totally in for supporting Rajjo because she is related to Zoya in that matter.

Sherry kind of confessed his feelings for Zoya but is still confused & can not come to a final decision. At one point he told Zoya to be with him forever & then we saw Mariam telling him about Anam’s shopping for engagement ceremony. I hope they cover this thing up as soon as possible & in the next episode we get to see a full fledge dramatic confession of Sherry. Their scenes were absolutely cute, their shopping, looking at her pictures & taking care of small things related to her, it was a treat to watch.

Is it just me or Zoya really looked beautiful in that black dress? It was well suited for the occassion & wow just a little touch up & she turns out to be such a flawless beauty. I think Ayza Khan is one of the few actors who can carry both the non-makeup & the glamorous look. Poor thing had to go through all that once again which she faced during her childhood.

I am kind of getting tired with Mr. Parvaiz & his whole family. Ever since the story has begun all we see him is scheming & plotting to make things his own which actually do not belong to him. He is a partner yet he is always in a competition with Mr. Kamal & how he has his high hopes set for his daughter to come & conquer this empire. I guess he should get the fact straight that what doesn’t belong to him won’t become his no matter how hard he tries. He couldn’t progress much through out his life & didn’t do much except turning his childern into spoiled brats & there he is hoping to reach the sky that too by taking someone else’s support. I hope they get exposed soon & their scenario comes to an end.

I have an objection on the needless displays of hard-drinks & trying to show what the elite society is like. I know it is really common these days in the society parties of Pakistan but still the media reaches out to the whole world & they should at least take care of the image they are portraying of Pakistan. I know it is a drama but then it shows the acceptance of such a intolerant thing within our society. Anam’s brother is seen all drunk & misbehaves with Zoya as usual. That scene looked like  scene from Salman Khan’s movie ‘Meinne Pyaar Kiya’ where the friend is the hostess & her brother misbehaves with the guest. Anyhow, Sherry shouldn’t have left her alone but it was indeed sweet to see him worried about her all the time.

Now the real predicament will start when Sherry is going to be at the police station & Mr. Kamal arrive with the intention of giving everyone a surprise but he doesn’t know he’ll be getting a big one himself. LOL! Can’t wait to see what happens
next.

Sanam Saeed and Ahsan Khan ready for the Next Project!

0

Pakistan’s drama industry is growing too well these days where every next drama is becoming a real hit. What is more evident in the industry is the fact that producers are in search of an opportunity to get a hold of celebrities that can turn their raw, flop idea into a hit, masterpiece project. After Humsafar, it was seen that Fawad and Mahira were on the top list having a huge list of projects been queued,  and now it is Sanam Saeed, after giving hit serials back-2-back.

Coke Kahani Episode 12 – Mission Successful!

0

Another hit episode! The credit goes to the wonderful cast and crew, as well as the superb director who never fails to surprise us. Rayaan was the star of the episode. He finally took an initiative to change people around him. He started off with Current and his friend, Guddu. He was able to convince them to give 9th grade board exams. They were reluctant at first, as it was a big decision for them to start their studies again as they were the main bread winners of their family, but Rayaan’s optimism took a toll on them and they agreed. Rayaan decided to teach them himself and worked day and night to help them as they had to start everything from scratch. But with Rayaan’s parents support and help he was able to teach them. Rayaan’s parents seemed like the most proud parents ever. They were very happy with Rayaan’s decision to help Current and Guddu. Rayaan is finally becoming more responsible and looking at life from a new perspective and his parents are proud of his effort! The lesson for us is that we should all be like Rayaan and take an initiative to help and improve people instead of criticizing them. Great work Rayaan!

Beydil’s hard work has finally paid off and he is able to satisfy the ‘never satisfying’ Chef of Alfonso. Jugnoo had been very strict with Beydil but it helped him to learn and improve. Maria was seen supporting Beydil throughout his training. We saw a sweet bonding moment between Jugnoo and Beydil. The enemies had finally become friends! The sweetest scene of the episode for me! Jugnoo had officially handed over his Chef cap to Beydil and is off to Germany. I am definitely going to miss him! Each and every character of this play is very special.

Asfand is also seen encouraging Zoya when she has doubts in her mind of her ability to run the restaurant successfully. But Asfand tells her to be optimistic and not give up so easily. Zoya also has pressure from Maya’s side as she wants Zoya to go back to Florida with her. Asfand and Maya’s relationship had gotten better but suddenly it has returned to its former state. Asfand is being aloof and is refusing to share his problems with Maya. Maya is angry and upset with him as he wouldn’t share his problems and has stopped talking to him. Will their strained relationship ever get better? Will Maya stay back or will she take Zoya back to Florida with her? Zoya really wants to see her family back together. I really hope her wish ever comes true soon!

I was surprised to know that Ruqaiya knew since the beginning why Saad had taken her out for a date. She had always liked Saad but according to her, now it is too late as she wants to go abroad for her Masters. She again took Zoya’s help to convince her mother and surprisingly, she agreed without fussing much. I really did not expect that. I was relying on her to stop Ruqaiya from going and I think even Saad had the same hope. Ruqaiya’s mothers’ comments about Saad were hilarious! It seems like she does not have a very good reputation of Saad in her eyes. Poor Saad seemed extremely upset at the news that Ruqaiya was going abroad for her Masters and her mother has also given her approval. I am sure Saad will do something to stop Ruqaiya from going. He would not give up so easily. Saad can be really unpredictable at times.

The preview for the next episode seems interesting. A lot of things are coming up so don’t forget to watch Coke Kahani next week!

Aik Nayee Cinderella Episode 14 – Secrets Revealed!

Finally the secrets have been revealed. I have been waiting for a long time to find out who is Meesha, where had she come from and how is she related to Shah Baba. All the questions were answered in the episode. Meesha is the daughter of Shah Baba’s enemy Sikander and she became a prisoner of Shah Baba after her parents died. She was a lucky charm for Shah Baba’s family and that is why he decided to get his son married to her. But some turn of events led Meesha to escape and she landed up with Saifullah. I was not expecting such a twist at all. It came as a huge surprise to me. Now the only question that needs to be answered is that where does Saifullah fit into all this? How did he know Meesha? Only Dado has the answer to these questions. I hope these questions also get answered soon.

I was relieved to see that Aimee is finally beginning to question things around her as she thinks something is fishy. Shah Baba finally found out the truth about Aimee that she is not Meesha and has in fact, proved unlucky for his family. One bad news after the other came since Aimee had come to live with them. Farjad tries to defend Aimee and tries to save her from Shah Baba’s wrath but all in vain as Shah Baba is not ready to listen to him. I felt really bad for Aimee in this episode. Her naiveté led her into this problem. I hope Farjad is able to help her and she gets released soon.

Meher is still playing her games. She tells Meesha to do the exact opposite of what Bano wants and then fills Bano’s ears against Meesha. She is trying her best to destroy Meesha’s image further in Bano’s eyes. Bano is also completely disappointed with Meesha and is disgusted by Meesha’s manners and ways. She is trying her best to teach Meesha but it seems like an impossible task to change Meesha’s ways. As i said before “It is not easy to tame a lioness”. We saw a few lighthearted scenes in this episode when Meesha makes blunders in front of Bano. Meesha’s character can make you laugh even when she is not trying!

Meher is able to sense that Meesha is not happy and even Mayer asks her that why is she so indifferent to him. Both the time she makes lame excuses to convince both of them. But each time she tries to convince them, the more unconvincing her words seems to be, it is clear that she is still in love with Roman.

The most heart breaking scene of the episode was when Meesha started degrading Roman in front of Mayer when Mayer told her that Roman was the new wedding planner. Her behavior with Roman was beyond rude, and even Roman was unable to understand the reason behind her hate for him. He is extremely hurt by her crude words. She keeps on taunting him time and time again, and Roman listens quietly without uttering a word. Meesha’s words haunt him and he keeps on wondering the reason behind her rude behavior. I could not help but feel bad for him.

Zaini and Mayer became friends again. An interesting turn of event, and it came as a shock to me when Mayer accepted her offer for friendship. Osman Khalid Butt really needs to work on his expressions. It is hard to tell what he is feeling as he usually has the same expression on his face. But overall he is not doing a bad job; you can overlook a few things since it is his first show. Maya Ali leaves one impressed as always and Faizan Khwaja’s eyes speak volumes even when he has no dialogue, one can easily tell what he is feeling. Its a quality which only experienced actors possess!

The preview for the next episode seems pretty shocking. Meesha is seen accusing Bano and Mayer slaps her! Mayer seems extremely angry with her. It will be an interesting episode to watch for sure.

Aamir Zaki Finally Back with Rahat Fateh Ali!

0

Amir Zaki surely doesn’t needs an introduction. He has been known as the greatest guitarist in the Pakistan music industry. While enjoying his successes in his career, Amir suddenly went through a deadlock condition where he found better to leave the country due to the continuous ups  and downs that kept him in spotlight. However, A good news for the Zaki fans is that he is finally back with new projects which can give him even more power-more success!

Bari Appa Episode 19 – Too Good!

0

This episode in literal sense was like a roller-coaster ride. It was to the point & didn’t drag much. I absolutely enjoyed watching it.

The first scene came as a relief where Firdous just left the house & nothing too major or serious happened to them. She, on her own, is right & has been consistent when it comes to Sharmeen. Ghazanfar is again going over-board in making a mismatch. While watching this episode I was wondering about the only two dialogues Adeel has been saying through out the drama like ‘mai Sharmeen se shadi karoonga’ ‘mai Sharmeen se shadi nahi karoonga’. Ohkay, we get it, he likes her but I guess he shouldn’t have been so dumb that whenever Sharmeen wants, she uses him. Firdous has gone to her mother & her rant was right. She is frustrated seeing how the two men in her lives are smitten by Zubaida & now her daughter Sharmeen. At this point I dislike Sharmeen’s character the most.

Ghazanfar tells Adeel that ‘Firdous khush kismat hai k usay tum jaisa beta mila’ but he forgot to mention that I am lucky to have Firdous as a wife & you are to have her as a mother because her life revolves around us only. It shows how properly she has raised Adeel that he turned out to be such a caring son & to some extent an innocent person as well unlike Sharmeen who takes all the cunningness after Zubaida.

Zubaida once again got a chance to let down Neelam after Essa & Sharmeen’s phone conversation. It was heart-touching & Essa’s confession was really sweet but poor Sharmeen has fallen under her own trap that she set for Essa. She seems like a shuttle who is ready to fly between the two guys, she goes to Essa when she wants to love him & bounces back to Adeel when she wants to take revenge on Essa. Zubaida never leaves a single opportunity to degrade others. She told Farmaan & Neelam that ‘Firdous apne ghar ko hi sambhal le to bari baat hai’. Which I found really weird because in front of Neelam she was underestimating her own sister. Even if Firdous hasn’t done much for the rest of the family financially but she is a better wife & a better mother as compared to Zubaida. At least, she didn’t go around poking noses into other’s matters, she was happy in her own bliss unlike Zubaida who gave priority to every other person except her husband & daughter.

By now I feel it should have been understood by Farmaan that whenever Zubaida asks him to go out she is about to meet Ghazanfar. Every time he obeys her orders & goes out she calls him & tells ‘Mubarik ho Sharmeen ki baat pakki kar di hai, Ghazanfar aye the’. Which should be clear to Farmaan by now that she likes to meet her ex-fiancé in seclusion, which in every sense is ODD.

It was a much needed reality check that Shakeel gave to Zubaida. He was spot on & said the right thing when found Zubaida saying all the obvious things which Firdous was not. It is good to see his character building up in a sense that he can now take stand for the right things & can say no to the wrong. Even then Zubaida asked Shakeel ‘koi paisay reh gaye the kya dene k liye?’. Why does she need to say such things when she knows he just met her & there was nothing to be discussed in regards to the money. I am kind of unable to understand her character that at one point she claims that she can spare her life for her family but at the same time she taunts them & hounds them literally.

I hope things sort out a bit as soon as possible because the preview of the next episode looked interesting. I am totally satisfied with the pace of the drama now because seems like they are winding things up with exactly the speed that was needed.

Even if Zubaida’s character has taken a bad turn but still I must say that Savera Nadeem has done justice to the character she opted for. Zubaida’s character is still what we can not hate because she brings in so much reality to what the nature of most of us human beings are. We, at one point are sweet but we may become mean & selfish when in a situation. I absolutely salute the writer for writing up such a beautiful character which is so relate-able  Even though from last a lot of episodes we haven’t seen anything positive in Zubaida’s character but still it’s justified that it is how she is, her dignity means the world to him & she can even lie when she deems fit in order to protect herself from the sympathy. Kudos to the rest of the cast too for making what Bari Appa is now because almost every other person is following this drama keenly. :)

Pakistan is a country which has a lot of talent whether it comes to academics or the entertainment industry. The country seems over-loaded with the people of all ages who have something or the other, very special with them. However, what lacks within the nation is the availability of exposure for the talent. It has been seen that with an advancement in every field of life, Pakistan’s media industry is also flourishing day by day, providing opportunities to the talented people within the country.

Following the ideologies that have been adopted by the neighboring country, the private channels of Pakistan are now finding the reality shows as one of the most profitable business. What adds more spice to the reality shows is the fact that many talented artists are emerging with the following shows.

Zindagi Gulzar Hai Episode 9 – Going Strong

Zaroon I pity your thinking and you deserved every word of the insult that came your way today. Zaroon is a very chota admi for sure and he proved it today. That was one conversation which Kashaf should not have overheard, I really felt for her since she joined the university to study so that she could help her mother out of her misery but because of his own petty reasons a spoiled rich boy decided to take Kashaf up as a challenge and that just made things even more difficult for her. Kashaf totally won me over today, she was absolutely right about Zaroon and I am even happier now that she did not give into Zaroon’s charm. Zaroon has met his match for sure, the one week deadline must be ending soon enough and Zaroon is nowhere near achieving his ‘objective’. Kashaf has an answer to all of Zaroon’s zggquestions and more. Zaroon was so right in comparing Kashaf to a jigsaw puzzle; he couldn’t have drawn a more apt analogy. Anyone who enjoys assembling jigsaw puzzles would know that a puzzle seems even more appealing when it is very complicated and once you put all the pieces together the satisfaction you feel is unmatchable. Kashaf is the most complicated girl (jigsaw puzzle) Zaroon has ever come across and he will do anything to put all the pieces together!

Zaroon completely lost my vote today and For once I have to say that I agree with what Asmara had to say about Zaroon, he is a hypocrite, he is not sure if he wants to get engaged to Asmara but at the same time he won’t tell her to go on with her life and get married if she wants to. Until the last episode I thought that Zaroon just needed to grow up but boy was I wrong or what! Zaroon needs to learn a few lessons about girls in particular in life and Kashaf is the one who will teach him all those lessons the way he should be taught! When Asmara asks Zaroon about inviting Kashaf to Sara’s wedding, he tries to change the topic by saying “Maria ko tu buk buk krne ki adat hai” before he tells her that he did invite Kashaf, another reason why Zaroon lost my vote today. He does not even have the guts to say yes I did invite her so what!

Fawad Khan was at his best when he was fuming after the confrontation and Sanam Saeed owned the confrontation scene; Kahshaf’s instant reaction when she overheard the conversation and the way she pushed Zaroon was absolute delight to watch, action packed and exciting. I ZGH3must give due credit to the director Sultana Siddiqui for doing a wonderful job of directing that scene in particular and the whole episode in general. And of course the scene could not have been so perfect and the story so interesting if it wasn’t written so well, so a very special thanks to Umera Ahmed for penning down another exciting play for us.

Osama constantly kept on reminding Zaroon that he was wrong and I could not help but wonder how he managed to be friends with Asmara and Zaroon for this long. He seems like a decent boy and not a spoiled rich brat with lots of money and no feeling like his friends. Osama you need to find yourself some good friends! Osama’s friendship with Asmara and Zaroon is somewhat the same as Maria’s friendship with Kashaf; two people who are entirely different from each other.

ZGH11Kashaf’s feelings after the incident were completely relatable. She is a girl who holds her self-respect dearer than anything else and even after trying so hard to earn herself a respectable position in the university, there is absolutely nothing she can do to change the thinking of men like Zaroon. What she does not understand is that what Zaroon said about her said more about him than about her. Kashaf is the sort of person who reacts first and thinks later and that is exactly what happened this time around too. She decided to leave the University but it only took her a couple of days to realize that her decision was wrong. Kashaf is all set to go back to the university with the same confidence and assurance, you go girl!

There were no Nigar/Murtaza scenes today so I am sure there are many happy viewers out there who did not miss these two one bit. There was however mention of Nigar and Murtaza and I am sure we can all live with that! Rafia finds out about Murtaza spending the money on the house and is rightly heart broken. Kashaf will do her mother proud one day and I am wating for that day impatiently.

Mansha Pasha deserves praise for doing full justice to her role as Sidra and like always Sidra proved to be a great listener. The scenes with the two sisters in them were perfect and are a very important part of very episode.

The precap suggests that things move forward quickly in the next episode and I am impatiently looking forward to the next installment. Today’s episode was engaging and exciting and I have a feeling that Zindagi Gulzar Hai will keep us looking forward to more.

Celebrity In Advertisement – Good for promotion?

0

Marketing in Pakistan has become the new trend for different brands. Popular brands like Olpers, Nestle, Aquafina, Coke, Pepsi invest a lot in their marketing strategies; Mostly advertisements.

It has been seen in the recent years that different brands are endorsing their products through the means of showing the most ‘Popular celebrities of the time in their advertisement. One of the most hyped advertisements was seen during the days of Humsafar when Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan appeared together in the Aquafina advertisement. It was a very good strategy of Aquafina to promote their product by showing the most popular faces of that time, Ashar and Khirad. Aquafina’s sale had boost immensely after the advert was played regularly on different channels. There was also a re telecast of the TUC advertisement again featuring Mahira and Fawad during the Humsafar ads. We also saw the NesVita Ad featuring Mahira Khan playing regularly in the breaks of both Humsafar and Shehr e Zaat.

aquafinaAgain we can see the popular celebrities in Ads nowadays usually during the ads of their own show on air. Recently, we saw the Q mobile Noir Advertisement featuring Fawad Khan after his new show Zindagi Gulzar Hai was launched. Another advertisement featuring Fawad Khan which is played regularly nowadays is the Service shoes advertisement. Another popular face nowadays in Ads is of Maya Ali (Meesha of Aik Nayee Cinderella) she is seen in a totally different look in the sprite Advertisement. Ayesha Omer and Azfar Rehman, both are seen together in the Kurkure Advertisement. Ayesha Omer and Hina Dilpazeer feature in the Harpic advertisement, as Momo and Khubsurat; the popular characters of Bulbulay. The Candi biscuit advertisement features Adeel Hussain, Annie Jafferi (Last seen in Meri Behen Maya) and Hamza Ali Abbasi (who played the negative role in Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Mile). Fiza Ali, who is currently seen in the drama Ghaao, also features in the latest PTCL Smart TV advertisement.

Other Brands like Dairy milk, Nestle, Tarang, Ufone, Warid, Zong, Telenor, Mobilink also invest a lot in their advertisements. Ufone Ads show lighthearted comedy and are usually very creative. It features the same celebrities mostly; namely Mikaal Zulfiqar, Faisal Qureshi (who is the main person behind the creativity and I must say he makes great advertisements), Mehreen Rahael(she is no longer seen though), the model Ayyan Ali and Adeel Hashmi. Tarang Advertisement has featured a lot of celebrities like Ahsan Khan, Fawad Khan, Sonya Jehan, Resham, Moammar Rana, Meera, Reema, and Danish Taimoor. The other mobile network brands like Mobilink, Warid, Zong have featured celebrities likeufone Ali Zafar, Fahad Mustafa and Atif Aslam. The Mobilink song Jazba which was previously sung by Atif Aslam has now been adapted and sung by the contestants of Surkshetra. The winner Nabeel Shaukat Ali and the other two popular contestants, Imran Ali and Mulazim Hussain have done a great job and the song has come out pretty well. Ali Zafar was also seen in a Mobilink advertisement featuring him and Nargis Fakhri which had become very popular.

Brand like Coke and Olpers have provided huge amounts of sponsorships to shows like Tanhaiyan Naye Silsilay and Coke Kahani. The show has special scenes just to promote the brand. This is the beginning of a new trend. We would see other brands following their lead and providing sponsorships to drama serials.

Brands are constantly competing against each other and need to come up with more creative advertisements all the time. The main ingredient, however is to feature a popular celebrity and their fans automatically gets persuaded to use the brand’s product. The investment may be huge as celebrities demand high prices but the profit gained due to the increased sales is more than satisfactory for the brands.

Pakistani Writers Better not Enter India-BJPWarning!

0

Not a single day has passed with ease and no tension after the inception of two countries Pakistan and India in 1947. The two have always kept some long lasting grudges against each other for any reason. Recently the athletes of Pakistan were made victim of this long rift between these two and recently Indian extremist group Bharti Janata Party BJP has warned Pakistani writers not to enter the soil of their mother land India to attend Jaipur Literature Festival or face the dire consequences.

According to the recent updates BJP in their threat have made advancements and now total 7 writers from Pakistan are literally banned to enter the India to attend the festival. This harsh behavior from the BJP was seen when work of seven Pakistani writers including some prominent names like Jamil Ahmed and Mohammed Hanif are shortlisted in 2013 festival for certain award category. These steps from an Indian extremist party are a clear indication of hatred and their narrow mind behavior.

Actions are louder than words, that is the phenomenon everyone believes however BJP stands out unique and once again not only their actions are loud but their words too hence it was proved by BJP’s Yuva Mocrcha state President of Rishi Bhansal “we will not allow them to enter the festival venue. There is no question of welcoming the Pakistani authors here at a time when their country has disrupted peace at the border.” It is a clear indication of threat against Pakistani writers who might be deprived of a golden opportunity in this festival. Last but not least even the organizers of the event showed least interest of managing this issue and trying to cope up with the situation and stated “all sessions would be held as per schedule in the presence of all guest authors.

Actions of hatred and hostile behavior are always condemned and opposed by the sane mind and these actions taken by the BJP is one of them. They criticized on both side of the border and almost on every level too. A peace loving human nature will never welcome such actions and will try to diffuse these types of tensions between two people if he could and that is what Pakistan and India need at this very moment. There have been a lot of debates sessions and even conferences to have peace talks talk between the two neighboring countries however they seem to fail games and literature abstaining from politics of the countries.

Kahi Unkahi Episode 12 – Taking it slow

0

So the episode today was al-right  We didn’t see much progress in the story today. It was once again mostly about Anam & Sherry & their pending decision.

Sherry has finally reached to a conclusion that he is not ready to get married to Anam at least because he is not finding her compatible. I find Sherry at fault here too that he shouldn’t have gotten carried away by Anam & her charm that now he is backing off. Anam on the other hand is planning her out-of-the-world sort of an engagement ceremony where she is going to demand a huge diamond from Sherry. Her mother is persistent too but she still is sceptical when it comes to Sherry because till date they haven’t gotten the official proposal from Mr. Kamal’s family.

Sherry got to see more of Zoya & finds himself attracted to her. She is innocent yet head-strong. I absolutely love her character & I feel Ayza Khan is the perfect choice for this role. The way she has portrayed the character of Zoya is beyond perfection because she seems to have indulged herself in the character completely. Her concern for Rajjo, her straight forwardness, her shyness is everything that a man can wish for & Sherry is finding it hard to ignore his childhood friend now.

I am kind of bored with Shahzeb, his lingering feelings & his family. It’s tiring to see him after a couple of episodes that too stuck on the same scenario. He needs to move on or let go. Once again he approached her & she was spotted by Anam & Shahzeb’s sister. His sister accused Zoya of so many petty things & she quoted her childhood days. It was something unnecessary or I think the dialogues weren’t written with much heed. To quote what Zoya did in her childhood that too which was a made up story of Anam could’ve been ignored because those pointers weren’t convincing enough & seemed unreal.

Finally, Sherry took a step & confessed in front of his mother about what he feels for Zoya or his Zoyee. Mrs. Kamal’s concerns were right to some extent too. She didn’t want Zoya to feel awkwardness in her life anymore. She has seen her suffering enough for her age. She shared her fears with Sherry saying she may not have done good to Zoya by teaching her so much because now she won’t be able to fit in her own social class nor anyone else from the upper class would accept her. Sherry being a gentleman & someone who’s smitten by Zoya presented his proposal but Mrs. Kamal straight away rejected it. I kind of feel that her character is dis-tackled because at times she doesn’t take stand for obvious things like Anam where she herself claimed that she doesn’t find Anam suitable for Sherry, still we see her supporting Mr. Kamal & Sherry for this proposal. & now when Sherry has talked about Zoya we saw her saying he shouldn’t be thinking about her even when she treats Zoya as her own daughter. I hope they kind of pay attention to what actually they want to do with the character of Mrs. Kamal because at times she does seem unreasonable person who has no say in her family matters.

Anyhow, I hope they soon get over with the Anam-Sherry flick & Anam gets to see what it takes to earn dignity in the eyes of a man. Still loving the drama as it’s going strong.
