You would expect all the leading actresses of the Pakistani drama industry to look their best at a big event such as the Hum Style Awards but sadly the reality was quite contrary to this. This year, there wasn’t a single actress who looked stylish and trendy at the event. Every single outfit was a case of bad fitting and designing. It was, therefore, difficult to choose which actress looked the worse since there was such tough competition! The dresses these actresses wore made us wonder what happens to the creative mind of leading designers when they are assigned the duty of designing outfits for award functions. While most celebrities pretended to be at the Oscars, the style game definitely was not on point!

Alizeh Shah

Alizeh Shah is at that stage of her career where she is trying her best to transition into a young, stylish diva, an image completely different from what she has sported throughout her adolescent years. Alizeh Shah is definitely experimenting in order to find her style, therefore she is expressing herself differently. Alizeh Shah’s name has been involved in a lot of controversies but she chose not to say anything. However, after all, that she has experienced, this was the very first time she was going to be in the public eye that too on a big event such as Hum Style Awards. Alizeh Shah knew all eyes were going to be on her therefore she assumed she was dressed to impress but that didn’t turn out to be the case.

Alizeh Shah was going to carry multiple looks throughout the event considering she also had a dance performance with Ali Zafar. However, the main look of the event was during her walk on the red carpet where she was seen in an off-shoulder black gown. It was unfortunate that this dress did not suit her body type and looked unflattering on her. The bustier was too small and the flare of the gown was oversized, which made it look like she had wrapped a huge towel around her. It was an ill-fitted, poorly designed outfit that absolutely wasn’t made keeping her physique and body type in mind. Instead of accentuating her waistline and overall figure, this dress looked like it was ordered online and because she received it last minute, she did not have the time to alter it. Alizeh Shah’s look has definitely brought her the attention that she was aiming for, but she must not have imagined that it would be for all the wrong reasons. Her choice of accessories, such as a wristwatch was also too casual and made it obvious that she did not have any stylist at her disposal and chose to wear what she thought was going to look good, which didn’t. Better luck next time Alizeh.

Sonya Hussyn

Sonya Hussyn has definitely upped her style game over the years but unfortunately, she is also known for copying celebrities from across the border. Recently, she did not only work in a drama that was inspired by a Bollywood film but she also tried her best to copy Sri Devi’s style! Now for the Hum Style Awards look this year, she decided to take some major inspiration from Malaika Aurora and still managed to be the worst dressed celebrity at the event. Firstly, Sonya’s outfit was ill-stitched to the extreme, so much so that those collars would not stay in place!

Secondly, this was clearly an outfit designed for the photoshoot in which filters and photoshop edit made up for the ill-stitching and the absence of the right cuts. Also, like many other celebrities, Sonya Hussyn could barely walk while she was at the event and was clearly not comfortable at all. We can only wonder why our designers and actors have to rely on copying designs and even colors when they can easily come up with original pieces. And even while doing so they definitely fail to make eye-catching replicas!

Sonya Hussyn’s actual look at the event and her overall look in the photoshoot were poles apart! It just went to show how edited these pictures were and how badly designed this outfit was in reality! It was the perfect example of what you see online and what is actually delivered to you! The make-up artists also gave Sonya Hussyn a look that would look great in a photoshoot but in reality, it looked messy! We expected better from Sonya but we really shouldn’t have since her fixation with copying Bollywood is fast turning into a routine matter!

Mashal Khan

There was so much happening with Mashal Khan’s overall look that it took a minute or two to study in order to understand what she was wearing. It is unfortunate but Mashal Khan was yet another worst dressed celebrity at the event. The off-shoulder maroon satin gown with a huge slit just seemed too basic and boring. The color of her gown was just not doing it for her, which makes it obvious that she tried to salvage it by relying on statement jewelry and over-the-top makeup and hairstyling.

It seems Mashal Khan got confused whether she was invited to a fancy dress party hosted by her friend at her house or an elaborate award function that was designed to celebrate style because style is exactly what was missing from her entire look. Mashal Khan’s makeup was too harsh and bold. The fact that she was wearing a solid-colored gown should have helped her in keeping her hair and makeup simpler but she decided to go all out. The statement necklace that she wore also did not add much charm to the look and the top-knot bun added more sharpness to her features. It seems Mashal Khan has also realized that this look wasn’t impressive, therefore she chose not to post it on her social media handles. Better luck next time Mashal.

Aima Baig

Let’s not talk about the boring dress Aima Baig wore at the event because it was so plain that there was nothing to criticize let alone praise about it. However, the outfit Aima Baig wore for her dance performance gave us so much to talk about! It is rarely ever that actors are seen wearing well-designed and attractive dresses for these dance performances but what Aima Baig wore looked like a second-hand dress someone would buy from Landa Bazar. It was the kind of outfit which kids wear as costumes for school functions but only when the school doesn’t have adequate resources to get quality dresses designed or when parents are on a budget!

This was not a school tablo therefore we were shocked to see the poor choice of outfit and when that skirt came off, the silk pajamas/tights underneath made us question whether these really were the style awards. It was a weirdly put-together outfit and it seemed as if every bit from the sleeves to the shoes came from a different area of Landa Bazar! Why did these style award organizers think it was alright for a performer to wear an outfit which lacked basic style! With the best designers at their disposal, the organizers could have done far better. Better luck next time Aima.

Amar Khan

This probably was one of the biggest events for Amar Khan, especially after she came into the limelight and public eye. However, this turned out to be a sticky situation for her because you just don’t want to land in a list of worst dressed celebrities for one of the biggest events that you actually seem so enthusiastic about.

Amar Khan’s dress is not only worst but her overall look is clearly underwhelming. The grey color is dull and boring and hair and makeup added so much age to her. It won’t be wrong to say that Amar Khan’s satin gown ended up looking like a nighty from the ’80s usually seen in Bollywood movies. In one of the pictures, the loop was hanging underneath the puffy sleeves, which clearly goes to show that she or even her stylists (if any) did not really pay heed to the final look. Amar Khan definitely works hard on her body and looked toned but the puffy droopy sleeves and off-shoulder look of the gown just did not look flattering on her. Better luck next time Amar.

Fatima Khan

Fatima Khan has not appeared on screen for a while but she is still nothing short of a celebrity who makes appearances in interviews often. Usually, she makes sure that her dresses are in line with what she believes in and at the same time are trendy enough. This time around however we were disappointed to see the outfit Fatima chose to wear for an event that was paying tribute to stylish artists. Fatima’s dress was a mix of a saree and a western dress. The choice of color was not appealing at all and the pattern chosen for the blouse gave it a really hideous and cheap look. The blouse was also ill-fitted and looked like a shirt that was tucked in.

While we appreciate the fact that Fatima is trying her best to make sure that the dupatta she vowed she will cover her head with is there at all times, we don’t get why this dupatta has to be there as a ‘symbol’ alone! Fatima’s outfit overall was just as confusing as her take on covering her head! If you want to do something go all out and do it properly otherwise just let it be! She got full marks for being ‘covered’ by the public in general and we are guessing that is the only approval she was looking for. Looking stylish was definitely not a priority while designing this outfit! Better luck next time Fatima.

Ayesha Omar

Ayesha Omar was another actress who showed up in an outfit that was perfect for photoshoots! It is unfortunate that a stylish celebrity such as herself settled for something she could not carry. The front top part of her dress was the main attraction of this dress yet it was too close to her face and unless she was in a certain position, it did not sit well at all. Apart from that, the fabric used for the dress was not the best! People rightly pointed out that the tail looked more like a mosquito net. Just like all the other actresses, Ayesha Omar went for a look that would look good in the pictures and wasn’t essentially the best otherwise! Better luck next time Ayesha.

Nausheen Shah

It is ironic that the actress who won an award for being the most stylish actress on TV ends up in the list of worst dressed celebrities at Hum Style Awards. It just doesn’t stop there because Nausheen Shah’s outfit and overall look have turned out to be quite controversial. It is because lately for the longest time, she has advocated a certain style of modest dressing. She has made TV appearances in that look where she proudly spoke about how one should dress modestly, however that changed at an award function.

Nausheen Shah is definitely a stylish celebrity who knows what looks good on her, therefore to see her in this outfit came as a shock. The plain black crop top paired with a crop coat wasn’t an impressive choice. The fitted sequined and tasseled skirt was supposed to make a statement but ended up looking like a messy design which did not translate well on the fabric. Nausheen Shah’s sleek bun and basic makeup look made it look like she got ready herself because her hairstylist and makeup artist canceled last minute. This overall look seems poorly designed and executed. Better luck next time Nausheen.

Resham

Resham has carried so many different casual and formal styles in everyday life and in functions therefore we were seriously disappointed to see her wearing the most basic outfit which anyone can purchase from a retailer on such a big award function. The choice of color wasn’t the best either! Her dress was not formal or stylish enough for the occasion. She did not wear any accessories except for a basic pair of earrings and her styling was pretty much the same as usual. Resham played it safe and while doing so she disappointed all those people who expect better from a diva such as her. Better luck next time Resham.

Sarwat Gillani

Sarwat Gillani is one such actress who knows and understands style a lot better but this time around, it seems she was in no mood to channel it. Sarwat Gillani’s look shows how boring a barbie doll look can be. Maybe she was also inspired by Alia Bhatt and chose to wear a frock like her. The color of her dress was dull and boring. Her personal styling such as hair and makeup was too basic. The expressions of Sarwat Gillani showed that she herself wasn’t feeling the look and probably did not have a decent amount of sleep to look fresh and awake. Sarwat Gillani definitely has that personality where she can make any kind of styling work but it is sad that almost at every award function, she tries to experiment and end up in the list of worst dressed celebrities year after year. She is a constant on this list and seems quite proud about it. It’s about time Sarwat Gillani fires her stylist (if any) and if not, she should hire one ASAP. Better luck next time Sarwat.

Yet, there are times when they make certain choices that baffle their viewers. When these actors choose substandard dramas to work in, their fans are left wondering why they chose such a script. Some of these actors have confessed in interviews that they do certain dramas just for fun. Perhaps that is why their choices sometimes are not at par with the status they enjoy in the industry.

There are other actors who have never really ‘explained’ why they chose to be part of some of the worst dramas we have seen on television. When an actor works in a project that becomes increasingly popular and which shows his diversity as a performer, the viewers automatically have more expectations. Therefore, when such actors choose to work in projects which have the most shoddy scripts the viewers do not know what to expect from them in the future.

Here are some of the top Pakistani actors who chose to be part of some of the worst dramas we have seen on television.

Ahsan Khan – (Bandhay Ek Dour Se)

Ahsan Khan makes his fans wait for long before he decides to make an appearance on television. This clearly suggests that he is being really ‘choosy’. He played his characters remarkably well in dramas such as Udaari and even Aangan in the recent past. When Ahsan Khan announced that he was going to play the lead in one of the upcoming dramas, his fans were ecstatic. When the promos of Bandhay Ek Dour Se started airing, it looked like another one of those typical dramas from Geo. However, the viewers had faith in the leading cast and also the writer. This faith was completely shattered right from the first episode. Ahsan Khan chose to play a typical character after so long and he looked like a complete misfit in it.

Not only is Ahsan’s character in Bandhay Ek Dour Se typical but it is getting more confusing and annoying with every passing episode. The pace of the drama is slow, apart from Ahsan Khan, Hina Altaf’s character is another one of those negative characters we have seen on screen a million times before. Ahsan Khan’s fans expected better from him than to choose a character like this one to play in a drama which overall as well doesn’t offer a great deal.

Ayeza Khan (Shehrnaz)

Ayeza Khan became more popular than ever after Pyare Afzal went on air. Just when her fans were dying to see her on-screen again, she got married and disappeared from television screens for a while. When she made a comeback, the viewers were ecstatic. The play she made a comeback with however proved to be the biggest disappointment ever.

The viewers who were waiting to see Ayeza Khan in a powerful role were shocked to see her play a role that made no sense. Shehrnaz was Danish Taimoor’s own production therefore it is easy to guess why Ayeza Khan decided to be a part of such a substandard drama. Although Ayeza has been part of many average plays and has played enough stereotypical characters, none of the characters she has played in her career was as bad as that of Shehrnaz.

Adnan Siddiqui (Janam)

Adnan Siddiqui is a brilliant actor and he usually chooses the projects he works in wisely. Even if he chooses to play a negative character, he makes sure that the project he works in has some class. Janam was a completely different story! It was a play with the worst storyline and what made it even more cringe-worthy were Saba Qamar and Adnan Siddiqui’s cozy scenes!

Janam was definitely not the kind of drama you would expect someone like Adnan Siddiqui to work in. It is definitely the worst play he has worked in.

Affan Waheed (Mein Na Janoo)

Affan Waheed is usually seen giving his most emotional performances in the best plays. Even if he plays the role of a flawed husband, he makes sure that the drama he is a part of offers something substantial. After Affan mesmerized the viewers with his performance in the popular drama serial Do Bol, he left the viewers in shock with his poor performance in Mein Na Janoo.

Affan Waheed’s get-up (his white-washed face), his ineffective character, and most importantly his absurd acting showed that sometimes even the best of actors can make the worst choices! He definitely redeemed himself by working in Ghalati but Mein Na Janoo will always be his worse project.

Bushra Ansari (Zebaish)

Bushra Ansari has excelled in doing comedy over the years and lately has been seen playing serious roles with the utmost precision in many dramas. Although drama serial Zebaish has been a big popular hit, this drama has been popular for all the wrong reasons. None of the viewers watching the show are taking it seriously and the worst part is that even an iconic actress such as Bushra Ansari seemed to have gone overboard to the extent that it is laughable. Bushra Ansari definitely did not make the right choice by being part of this project which has been written by her as well.

Danish Taimoor – (Meherposh)

Danish Taimoor mesmerized the viewers with his performance in Deewangi. Ab Dekh Khuda Kya Karta Hei and even Mera Rab Waris. After giving such amazing performances in dramas that were entertaining, for the most part, the viewers were excited to see Danish again on television. Meherposh was a special project because this time his leading lady in the drama was his celebrity wife Ayeza Khan. An actor who managed to make his presence felt even in negative roles failed to impress the viewers in Meherposh. Although usually, Danish Taimoor’s acting is so natural, in Meherposh his performance was anything but effortless. The reason for this obviously was that the script was too weak and there was more focus on production values than anything else.

Those viewers who even appreciate the appearances of this star couple in interviews, found themselves questioning Danish and Ayeza’s choice this season. This had to be the worst comeback of a celebrity couple on television. Danish Taimoor it seems was swayed away by the production values and the budget of the drama.

Fawad Khan (Ashk and Numm)

Fawad Khan’s popularity after Hamsafar aired was unmatched. He was the most sought-after actor and his fans were desperately waiting to see more amazing dramas from him. The dramas that followed Hamsafar however were some of the biggest disasters in the history of Pakistani dramas considering they starred Fawad Khan in the lead!

Ashk had the worst storyline and the execution couldn’t have been more pathetic. No one even took the drama seriously, most people watched it for Fawad Khan but Fawad himself it seemed didn’t take this project seriously since his performance and character in the play were beyond disappointing. Numm was another awful drama starring Fawad in the lead since it literally made the viewers numb! A drama which promised to be about an important social issue turned out to be a joke! The viewers expected better from Fawad but the truth is that he only has a couple of good dramas to his credit.

Faysal Qureshi (Muqaddar)

Faysal Qureshi is the kind of actor who is most often the reason why viewers tune into dramas. The viewers know that even if one of his plays won’t be a popular hit, he will deliver or his character will have enough to offer to keep on coming back for more. Faysal Qureshi however made such a bad choice by playing the protagonist in the drama serial Muqaddar. Although he promoted the drama a lot, the message it sent out was so disappointing and dodgy that people were left wondering why an actor of his caliber chose to be a part of a drama which made them cringe. Playing a negative character is one thing but being part of a drama that glorified kidnapping and forced nikkah and calling it a ‘love story’ was definitely not expected from Faysal Qureshi.

Hamza Ali Abbasi (Mann Mayal)

Hamza Ali Abbasi has been really selected ever since he started his acting career. In dramas like Pyare Afzal and Alif he was seen playing meaty roles. His role in Mann Mayal however wasn’t the least bit exciting. He played the role of Salahuddin, a man who is in love with a girl he could not get married to. Their love story continues long after the love of his life gets married. Salahuddin’s character was confusing and the love story itself was more twisted than endearing.

Mann Mayal was definitely not the kind of drama Hamza Ali Abbasi should have chosen to be a part of. Not only was his character written terribly, but his acting at times was also quite disappointing as well.

Humayun Saeed (Bin Roye)

Humayun Saeed has a definite screen presence and he can make you feel for his character almost instantly. Most often he chooses to play characters that have a lot of room for performance and which are central to the story. In Bin Roye his role was nothing more than that of a caricature. Bin Roye was the only drama in Pakistani drama history that was presented on the big screen in the form of a film and on television as a serial.

There were huge expectations from this drama because of the big names attached to it. The drama turned out to be a complete train wreck. It was a weird combination of the film and the drama itself. There were so many editing mistakes, the story had absolutely no spark and Irtaza’s character played by Humayun Saeed was one of the most unappealing male leads we have seen in a drama of this stature. This was surely not the kind of role which did justice to Humayun’s standing in the industry.

Imran Abbas (Jo Tu Chahay and Thora Sa Haq)

Imran Abbas does not always choose dramas that offer something new but he does have many such dramas to his credit which were quite entertaining even though they were not grand.  Starring in dramas Jo Tu Chahay and Thora Sa Haq were the worst choices made by the actor especially because both these dramas were on air at the same time. Dramas such as these definitely make you question the reliability and credibility of an actor even if he has been around for so many years and has so many good dramas to his credit. Imran Abbas shared in an interview that now he enjoyed the kind of status in the industry which allows him to choose the kind of projects he wants without any constraints.

Even then he chose to be part of such dramas in which his characters were so disappointing. It seems that Imran Abbas just like many other actors on this list sometimes chooses to be part of dramas just because he is comfortable working with the team. Imran Abbas shared on Instagram that he regretted doing Jo Tu Chahay because he never read the script and trusted the people who offered him the project. Hopefully, from now on Imran Abbas will be more selective and will not compromise on quality.

Iqra Aziz (Jhooti)

Iqra Aziz became more popular than ever when she played the leading role in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. Just when most of the viewers recognized her as a serious actress, Iqra Aziz signed a drama that disappointed everyone. Jhooti turned out to be another run-of-the-mill drama serial that was devoid of logic.

Iqra’s negative character in the play Jhooti was nothing like the layered character she played in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. While Ranjha Ranjha Kardi was applauded by many, Jhooti was heavily criticized because of its ridiculous storyline.

Imran Ashraf (Kahin Deep Jalay)

Imran Ashraf’s performances in Dillagi, Alif Allah aur Insaan, and most importantly Ranjha Ranjha Kardi won him an unprecedented fan following. The viewers were only too sure that Imran was going to be really selective and wise while choosing the upcoming projects. While Inkaar turned out to be a meaningful drama, Kahin Deep Jalay was one of the worst dramas this year.

Kahin Deep Jalay had a done-to-death story, the most black and white characters which were confusing at times. Not only this Imran Ashraf’s character and acting itself shocked his fans. Everyone was left wondering why Imran chose to be part of a drama which got the ratings but lacked substance.

Kubra Khan (Andaz-e-Sitam)

Kubra Khan has usually chosen the best dramas to work in but she also made one bad choice in her career. Andaz-e-Sitam’s story was run-of-the-mill and badly executed. It was also the worst drama Kubra Khan played the lead in.

Fortunately, after this, Kubra made some really good choices and established herself as a credible actress.

Maya Ali (Sanam, Mann Mayal and Zid)

Maya Ali has been part of some of the best Pakistani dramas but she has also made some really awful choices! More than once, she has been part of dramas and has played characters that made little sense. These characters annoyed the viewers and Maya Ali’s star power could not save the day.

Drama serials Sanam, Mann Mayal, and Zid were the worst choices made by Maya Ali over the years. All these dramas were so boring that most people had a difficult time watching them. Although Mann Mayal was a massive hit, Mannu’s character was nothing short of a joke! Sometimes it is difficult to believe that Maya made such terrible choices.

Saba Qamar (Izteraab, Janam and Kese Tum Se Kahoon)

Saba Qamar is another phenomenal actress who has made some terrible choices in the past. She confessed in an interview that she took up one of these projects because of its locations. It was like an opportunity to have a holiday with some of her colleagues who are also her friends. This project happened to be Kese Tum Se Kahoon. This was such a below-average drama that most people did not even watch it.

Izterab and Janam are two more plays that Saba Qamar was a part of which can easily be termed as the worst serials of all times! Apart from being typical, they were also cringy in many ways.

Sajal Ali (Noor-ul-Ain and Chup Raho)

Sajal Ali’s brilliant acting skills have impressed many but just like all the awesome actors in this list, she has also made certain choices which were not very wise. Noor-ul-Ain and Chup Raho were two such dramas that were simply terrible. The play Noor-ul-Ain was not only a complete copy of a Bollywood film but it was the most badly executed drama in which Sajal has worked in her entire career.

Chup Raho was meant to be a drama that focused on an important social issue but it turned out to be a joke. The villain was given more screen time than any other character and Rameen (Sajal’s character) did one unreasonable thing after the other. These two dramas were the worst choices made by Sajal.

Sania Saeed (Zard Mausam and Meherposh)

Sania Saeed is the kind of actor who can make every character she plays come alive on screen effortlessly. Most often viewers tune in to her dramas because they are so sure that if she is part of a drama it will definitely be worth watching. Even a great star like Sania has made some choices that can easily be termed as the worst.

Sania Saeed’s drama Zard Mausam did not do justice to her great acting skills. Similarly, Mehrposh is another drama that is currently on air in which Sania’s character and her acting are not the least bit impressive. Certainly, only a good script can bring out the best in an actor. The viewers do not expect Sania Saeed to settle for such average scripts.

Sanam Jung (Mein Na Janoo)

Sanam Jung has worked in only a few dramas but each one of these dramas had something or the other to offer. Even those dramas which had somewhat simple storylines were definitely not the worst. Sanam was doing great in the field of acting when she decided to start hosting morning shows.

When Sanam Jung decided to make a comeback to television, her fans were really excited. They were expecting Sanam to play a character like the one she played in Dil-e-Muztar and Mere Humdum Mere Dost – simple yet appealing. On the contrary, what the viewers got to watch on screen was one of the worst and annoying becharis this year. Not only this, but Sanam Jung’s acting was also so terrible that most of the viewers probably won’t even be tuning in to her next drama!

Sanam Saeed (Deedan and Kadurat)

The actress who got fame from dramas like Daam, Mera Naseeb, Shuk, Zindagi Gulzar Hei, Talkhiyan, and Diyar-e-Dil chose to work in some of the most awful dramas for some reason. Even though Sanam Saeed really enjoyed working in Deedan and she also shared that it was challenging shooting in those locations yet it was one of the worst dramas of recent times.

Kadurat was another drama in which Sanam Saeed played the most ridiculous negative character. It had the weakest script and someone like Sanam Saeed should definitely not have opted to be part of such a project.

Samina Peerzada (Beqasoor)

Samina Peerzada has played a variety of characters in her entire career. She adds more grace and substance to all her dramas. She is also someone who is quite conscious of the kind of characters she plays on the screen. Yet even someone like her ended up playing a leading role in drama serial Beqasoor which was bechargi on its peak.

Samina Peerzada has always played strong female leads therefore watching her play the role of a wife who keeps on going back to her abusive husband and a mother who poisons her daughter was absurd. It just goes to show that sometimes even the best of actors can make the worst choices.

Sana Javed (Romeo Weds Heer and Dar Khuda Say)

Sana Javed’s Khaani was a success like no other. The strong character she played in the drama serial won her many fans. The viewers were expecting Sana Javed to work in more such substantial plays in the future. She did work in some quality projects after Khaani but she also made some choices that were not appreciable.

Romeo Weds Heer was a lame attempt to cash in on the success of the Khaani lead pair. The drama was neither funny nor entertaining yet it was promoted like it was the next big thing. Dar Khuda Say was another drama that replicated the story of Ab Dekh Khuda Kya Karta Hei and did so in the most meaningless way possible.

Sarah Khan (Mere Bewafa, Band Khirkiyan and Deewar-e-Shab)

Sarah Khan is another top Pakistani actress who has a massive fan following. She has often been seen working in good dramas but she has also made some really bad choices. Mere Bewafa was a drama in which she played the most mazloom wife who is abused by her husband all through the duration of the drama yet she forgives him in the end like he did nothing wrong!

In drama serial band Khirkiyan, Sarah Khan’s character and the drama itself was just as ridiculous as Mere Bewafa. Deewar-e-Shab was another recent drama in which Sarah Khan looked pretty but her character lacked depth. The drama itself went off-track a little too quickly. These were most definitely not the best choices made by Sarah Khan.

Yumna Zaidi (Aap Ki Kaneez)

Yumna Zaidi has proven her wide range as an actress in all these years. Every drama she is a part of offers something grand yet she was part of one particular drama which showed her in the most clichéd bechari role the viewers have seen on television screens. Aap Ki Kaneez was just as lame as its title. The fans were shocked to see Yumna Zaidi choosing such a terrible drama to work in.

Zahid Ahmed (Mein Na Janoo and Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida)

Zahid Ahmed is another actor who is usually really careful while choosing which dramas he wants to act in. Mein Na Janoo was a recent play, the BTS pictures of which actually excited the viewers. Zahid informed his fans that he was going to play the character of a blind man in the play. The viewers were excited and looking forward to what he had in store.

Once the drama aired, not only were the viewers disappointed but Zahid also apologized for being part of such a project. His current drama Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida is not just a copy of the Bollywood film “Judai” but his role and performance is just as disappointing as it was in Mein Na Janoo. Zahid’s fans definitely did not expect him to choose such dramas to work in. After apologizing to his fans for the disaster that was Mein Na Janoo, he has been seen giving explanations for being a part of Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida.

There are a lot of Pakistani actors who in recent times took a break from television for some reason or the other. When these Pakistani actors finally decided to make a comeback on television, the viewers eagerly looked forward to their comeback projects. While there are many actors who are seldom seen on television and whenever they are part of a project, it is always something worthwhile. Unfortunately, there are also some of those actors who are famous and have been around for many years yet they made the worst comeback to television. It is really important for any celebrity who decides to make a comeback that he or she should choose the project they are a part of after giving it a lot of thought. The reason for this is that their fans and followers have waited for years to see them on television therefore they have huge expectations from them. Another big reason of course is that such a comeback project can be crucial to their acting career. If the fans and followers get disappointed once, they might not tune into another drama starring the same actor again. There were different reasons why these comebacks have been the worst. Some of the projects these actors chose were not good and then there are those actors as well who it seems forgot how to act while they took a break!!

Here are the worst comebacks of Pakistani actors on television in recent times.

Sanam Jung

Sanam Jung left acting and hosted morning shows for years. She took a long break after few of the hit dramas starring her in the lead went on air. Dil-e-Muztar, Mere Humdum Mere Dost, Mohabbat Subha Ka Sitara Hei and Alvida were the dramas which Sanam Jung played the leading role in and all these dramas were extremely popular. All these projects starred other big names and Sanam Jung’s acting was liked by the viewers in most of these dramas. When Sanam Jung started hosting the morning show on HUM, she could not act in dramas and that is when she gave up acting altogether for a few years. Soon, Sanam Jung was known as a morning show host more than an actress. Sanam Jung’s fans missed her in dramas and wanted her to make a comeback. Sanam Jung had done most of her work on television with HUM therefore after ‘taking a break’ from hosting, she signed a drama with HUM.

Sanam Jung has a massive fan following therefore there were huge expectations from this comeback project. Sanam Jung has never been a versatile performer but whatever she did was always up to the mark. Her acting was always pleasing and the roles she played were never too meaty but the plays she was a part of before were definitely entertaining. Sanam Jung made her television comeback with drama serial Mein Na Janoo. In this drama, Zahid Ahmed starred alongside Sanam Jung. These two stars had already given a hit drama serial Alvida in the past. Also, Zahid Ahmed is a big name of the entertainment industry therefore the viewers expected more from this drama.

Mein Na Janoo turned out to be a sob and a snooze-fest all at the same time. Not only this Sanam Jung’s character in the play was simply annoying. The fact that she took the becharapan to a whole new level simply proved that Sanam Jung’s comeback didn’t offer anything new. Mein Na Janoo has not only been an unimpressive play but Sanam Jung’s acting in the play has been equally disappointing. Out of all the plays Sanam Jung has ever starred in Mein Na Janoo has to be the worst. It is surprising that Sanam decided to make a comeback with such a serial. Even if her role was meatier, it would have made sense but her fans and followers have been left wondering why she chose such a pathetic project to make a comeback with.

Adeel Hussain

Adeel Hussain is another actor who won the viewers over with his style of acting when he starred in drama serial Daam. Later on he was loved by the viewers when he starred in Mata-e-Jaan Hei Tu and after that every time he starred in a drama his acting was loved by the viewers. After being part of one hit drama after the other and starring in two of the biggest Pakistani films, Adeel Hussain simply disappeared from the scene. His fans were left wondering if they will ever get to see him on television again or if he will limit his career to working in the films. When Adeel Hussain announced that he was making a comeback on television, his fans were ecstatic. They were waiting to see which drama he will be a part of since every drama Adeel had been a part of had something or the other to offer.

Unfortunately, Adeel Hussain’s comeback drama serial Daasi which has turned out to be a less than average play was a mega disappointment. Adeel Hussain is one of those actors who always share great on-screen chemistry with their co-stars but in drama serial Daasi, that chemistry and the spark is completely missing. Right from the first episode neither the drama nor Adeel’s character left an impact on the viewers. Most of the fans who do not want to break Adeel’s heart are just silent and others who are more honest shared their disappointment with the kind of project Adeel chose to be a part of.

The fact that Adeel himself wasn’t too excited to be a part of this project is apparent from his lackluster performance in the drama. In most of the scenes, his expressions and acting is not the same as it used to be in other dramas. Adeel Hussain could definitely have waited for a better project to make a comeback with since there are so many quality dramas on air nowadays.

Nadia Khan

Nadia Khan is known as the queen of morning shows. She also takes pride in the fact that she started a lot of quality trends in morning shows. But when Nadia Khan finally decided to make a comeback as an actor on television, people were baffled by how bad her acting was. Nadia Khan only had one big drama serial to her credit as an actor which was Bandhan and it aired decades ago when Nadia Khan was young. Everyone was waiting to find out what kind of a drama Nadia Khan had chosen to make a comeback with.

Well, the dramas Nadia Khan made a comeback with had quality scripts and an ace team behind them. The telefilm Apna Khana Khud Garam Karo, the drama serials Aisi Hei Tanhai and Zun Mureed, all had a quality script and team but Nadia Khan’s performances in all these dramas clearly indicated that she had forgotten how to act! Even though her characters in these plays were meaty but her acting wasn’t the least bit impressive. Even Nadia Khan herself admitted that she needed to practice and that she herself felt that she was giving too many expressions. Unlike other actors in this list Nadia Khan chose good dramas as her comeback projects but her acting made her comeback the worse!

Since Nadia Khan is such a perfectionist therefore the viewers expected her acting to be perfect in her comeback serials but that was definitely not the case. Nadia Khan’s overacting made her comeback one of the worst but somehow she keeps on getting good projects! She really needs to polish her acting skills in order to win hearts.

Syra Shahroz

Syra Shahroz was a VJ who turned to modeling and ended up acting in Mera Naseeb. Although Syra was convinced that she could not act but the producers and the director assured her that she could. Syra acted really well in Mera Naseeb and her innocence was loved by the viewers. Later on, she was seen in many drama serials in which she played different roles. In all these dramas Syra’s performance was decent enough and all of them were big projects. After Syra got married, she took a break from acting and later on when she made a comeback, she was part of some of the most disappointing plays.

The Mera Naseeb and Bilquees Kaur actress who was loved by the viewers made a comeback with dramas like Rishta Hei Jese Khawab Sa and Pasheman which were complete and total disasters. Not only this, Syra no longer had the same confidence which she once had when she was seen on television. Although, the producers tried hard to make the real life couple Shahroz Sabzwari and Syra Shahroz a hit but it did not work out at all. Syra Shahroz’s unimpressive performance has been the reason why we have not seen her in any good dramas lately. Syra is another actress who should have waited for better projects to make a comeback with since obviously she needs a really good director to guide her!

The story of any drama is taken forward with the help of the characters. They play an important part in making or breaking the drama. It can be stated that characters are the building blocks and backbone of any story because the writers conceive them and with the help of their circumstances and scenarios, convey the entire story and the message they have in their minds. A lot of times, though the story may not work, there are often such characters that end up being memorable. Similarly, at times dramas become popular but the characters lack the impact in order to become unforgettable.

In Pakistani dramas, the viewers come across different varieties of characters, in general, they are either good or bad because they serve the purpose and stay true to what they have been written for. Then comes such a category which makes one question the thought process of the writer. Such characters are neither good nor bad, they are in fact the worst characters that the drama buffs come across. Many times, they leave the viewers speechless and end up being the reason behind their frustration. The current dramas on air right now are not devoid of such characters. The writers have tried hard to give them a personality but their reasoning and overall attitude is poorly executed and makes them the worst character in a drama.

Here is the list of worst characters seen in Pakistani dramas in 2021:

Farhad (Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3)

It is going to be the first time in the history of Pakistani dramas where the central character has had absolutely shown no growth and there has been no personality to him whatsoever. Farhad and his journey have been glorified by the people around him who immediately fell in love with him hard but the sad part is, the actual reason why Farhad was so special was never made clear to the viewers. There is absolutely nothing to him that makes him stand out or extraordinary. Farhad’s journey has been shown in such a manner that actually leaves you questioning what heroic qualities does he possess? He was shown to be a random non-serious guy with zero aspirations and all he ever did was fall in love with Mahi and sit at a Mazaar with that love in his heart? The way people around him develop such reverence for him is far stretched and even by the end of this drama, one struggles hard to understand him. The writer must’ve written him in a different manner but the director failed to work on his personality, he forgot to add layers and depth to make Farhad likable for the ‘normal’ audience. Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 only got hyped up because of the franchise and Feroze Khan and at this stage, it can be easily said that this drama as well as the central character of Farhad were nothing but a disappointment.

Sahiba (Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3)

In Pakistani dramas, we start off with clueless characters, then come senseless characters, then come filler characters, and then come characters like Sahiba. It is a shame that an actor like Sunita Marshal was assigned for this role because she did not deserve to be wasted in this drama like that. Sahiba’s character makes absolutely no sense and the way her dynamic has been established with Mahi makes it even more frustrating. Sahiba happens to be Mahi’s bhabhi but she does not have a life of her own. If they had shown her as Mahi’s unmarried elder sister, it would’ve still made a lot more sense. Seeing a married woman hopping around Mahi, totally invested in her goes to show that absolutely has nothing to do with her life. Sahiba instilled the idea of Farhad’s love in Mahi’s mind but when the time came, she told Mahi to forget about him and silently get married to Sikandar! Sahiba is such a nonsensical character that it actually makes you feel bad for Sunita Marshal who had to play it. Another low faced by this character was a slap by her husband Nazim Shah and what’s more upsetting is that she settled for it quietly and did not even say a word to her husband or his family. Poorly written and executed character!

Dilnasheen’s Mother (Fitoor)

Usually in Pakistani dramas, we often get to hear mothers say to their daughters ‘tumhari jaisi aulaad kisi ki na ho’, well in this case, we’ll change it and say ‘tumhari jaisi ma kisi ki na ho’. This is exactly the only way to describe what a hideous and horrible character Dilnasheen’s mother was. The way she always turned a blind eye towards her daughter and ran a marathon whenever Dilnasheen looked for her support was absolutely distasteful. Although a lot of focus was given to the rest of the supporting characters but not once it was addressed why Dilnasheen’s mother was so cold and aloof towards her daughter. She easily blamed Dilansheen for all the stuff-ups but never once took accountability for the fact that she pushed Dilnasheen into a marriage that she never was happy about. She said all the vile things a mother should never say to her child-like settling for a luxurious life her husband provided to her despite the fact that he slapped and mistrusted her. She also told Dilnasheen that she wished she had died. Saba Hameed is a very strong performer with a very strong screen presence, that is why seeing her say these things actually was something that couldn’t be ignored. Such a horrible mother and a horrible character written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah in Fitoor!

Mehmal (Fitoor)

In Pakistani dramas, these days there’s an influx of girls dying to be with married men. They all are absolutely wrong but what took Mehmal to another level was the fact that she was a mother and that too legally and lawfully married to her husband while she was trying to chase Haider and snatch him away from Dilnasheen. There is no denying the fact that Kiran Haq looked absolutely stunning and gorgeous throughout the drama but the character of Mehmal was detestable, to say the least. It was like she had nothing to do in life apart from beautifying herself in the hope to hide the ugly heart that she had. She came up with one plan after another to ruin Haider and Dilnasheen’s life and failed to understand that she should mind her own business. The most absurd thing the writer did was give Mehmal a happy ending with her husband lovingly returning to her. Mehmal never once showed remorse or was held accountable for the mess she created in Haider’s life.

Zunaira (Amanat)

Saboor Aly can really do well in negative characters, she proved it in the drama serial Fitrat which actually brought a lot of attention to her and gave her career a push that she was after. However, despite the fact that her character was so evil in Fitrat, Saboor Aly still made it an enjoyable experience to watch, but when it comes to the character of Zunaira in the drama serial Amanat, she is on another level. There is absolutely nothing about Zunaira that is realistic, relatable, understandable, or even tolerable. Saboor Aly has worked really hard on her styling to make herself look different from Fariya of Fitrat but she has also taken her performance and expressions to another level which makes it a painful experience to tune to Amanat. The drama Amanat on its own is such a poorly and badly executed drama therefore seeing Saboor Aly’s as Zunaira is as worse as it gets. Now Zunaira’s only motive in life is to make the life of Meher and Zarar a living hell, seriously girls get a life!

Rida (Mujhe Vida Kar)

Out of all the forced becharis we watched in dramas this year, Rida definitely deserves to be on top of the list. This character had absolutely no personality! This was the kind of character you feel absolutely nothing for and as a consequence watching her story on the screen turned out to be a complete waste of time. Although Rida was the main lead in the drama, she had absolutely no screen presence at all. This was one of the most poorly etched out characters we saw in dramas in 2021.

Usman (Mujhe Vida Kar)

The male protagonist of Mujhe Vida Kar was just as lame as the female lead. Firstly, he just disappeared and when he came back he treated the wife he claimed to love in a manner that made the viewers wonder what was going on in his mind. Even though this character got enough screen time, nothing he did was engaging and everything about him made us question what the writer was thinking while penning down this character.

Meera (Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi)

It is especially unfortunate when a character that starts off as a strong and likable one turns into the worst character in a drama. All those viewers who watched Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi will agree that in the beginning few episodes Meera was the reason why most people enjoyed watching the show. She was introduced as an intelligent, well-educated, polite, and caring young woman. Meera was also shown as someone who trusted people too easily and this part of her personality was also tolerable in the beginning. With time, however, Meera turned into a complete bechari aurat who forgot she was anything beyond her useless husband’s wife! Her initial reaction when she found out that her husband was having an affair made more sense than what we got to watch in the later episodes! Meera literally looked at Saim even after everything he did as if she had a reason to expect better from him. The weaknesses in her personality were sudden and forced. Since the producers were so sure that the viewers love to see a heroine cry on screen, they put Meera through the worst even though she had no reason to put herself through any of it. Meera’s favorite hobbies included feeling sorry for herself and trying her best not to move on for the longest time! Her problems could easily be solved if she decided to move out of the house yet she chose to stay there and get insulted day in and day out. Meera’s character was as ridiculous as it gets! The only saving grace was that she did not accept Saim’s apology in the end but that did not make up for all the forced becharapan the viewers watched for 20 weeks or so.

Munir (Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi)

This was another character from Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi who came across as a likable one in the beginning. However, as the story progressed Munir’s character turned into a ridiculous mess. When Munir’s character was introduced in the drama it seemed as if he was a gentleman but his true colors were revealed when he found out that Saim had an affair with the maasi! He took this news a little too personally which made little sense. His reaction was over-the-top. to say the least, and he took this opportunity to judge his wife every chance he got. The writer definitely went overboard while penning down this character. Munir’s holier-than-thou attitude was really annoying and the actor playing the role made it even more so! He was another character on this list that could easily be categorized as useless. His scenes were so difficult to watch that forwarding them was the best and perhaps the only option.

Saim (Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi)

Saim was the main lead in the drama serial Khwaab Nagar Ki Shehzadi who single-handedly ruined his marriage and took one bad decision after the other. Pakistani writers quite often use a foolish man to create neverending problems for the leading lady and Saim was one such character. Much of what he did made no sense! The way a perfectly well-settled and happy married man decided to cheat on his wife was in bad taste. Later on, he turned into someone who was incapable of thinking on his own. He can easily be termed as the top contender for the most foolish characters we watched on screen. This character had absolutely nothing going for it yet he was the central character in the story. Saim was not just shallow but also someone who lacked any attributes which the viewers could have found engaging or convincing.

Fari (Qissa Meherbano Ka)

Fari is one of those many females in Pakistani dramas this year who lacked self-respect and continued loving a man even though his flaws were a little too apparent. She is a seemingly smart and even rich woman who somehow fell in love with a greedy man and even after all these years she fails to see just how unworthy this man is. She is simply in the drama to create the two wives fighting over a husband situation, otherwise, this character has nothing appealing about it at all. Mashal Khan really needs to stop playing these roles! She is capable of playing meatier roles therefore she should choose the projects she works in wisely.

Murad’s Mother (Qissa Meherbano Ka)

Clearly, the writer of this drama did not put in a lot of thought into penning down the characters which is why they lack some serious clarity! Murad’s mother is the one because of whom many of the important developments in the drama occurred yet this character is so illogical. This woman is greedy and unreasonable – that is all that there is to her character! Her grudges against everyone and her never-ending hate make her one of the most unbearable characters in the drama. Even the negative characters in the dramas have a background and some logic but this one doesn’t have any which makes her one of the worst supporting characters we saw in dramas this year.

Maham (Mohlat)

Pakistani writers use the selfish and greedy female leads often to make the other female, who is most often the sister, look like the biggest victim. Mohlat’s writer did just that while penning down Maham’s character. Maham did not have a single positive trait and her toxicity was the defining trait of her personality. She was not loyal even to her mother. Sibling rivalry was once again used in this drama and just like always, the evil sister Maham had the same characteristics as all such characters. We wish that our writers should just stop writing such characters and then give them the same old done-to-death endings.

Tara (Mohabbatein Chahatein)

Tara definitely had some psychological problems yet these issues were never addressed as such. She had to be one of the most strangely twisted characters we saw in dramas this year. Her obsession with every man who showed affection towards Sneha was laughable. Tara was a grown-up woman who acted like a spoiled toddler. This character was negative and toxic for no reason. Watching Tara’s antics was boring since her character was penned down so poorly.

Azar (Wafa Be Mol)

Azar was one of the many loser men in Pakistani dramas who fell for every single conspiracy-like it was his job to do so. A man who came across as an intelligent person failed to use his brains when it came to relationships. The most annoying aspect of this character is that even now when he is asking everyone for forgiveness, he continues blaming his father and Nazi for everything he had done. Azar’s stupidities were endless and it was impossible to feel for this character. It is certainly disappointing that someone like Ali Abbas chose to play this character.

Aswad (Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay)

Aswad is the main lead in drama serial Hum Kahan ke Sachay Thay. He is another one of those many men in Pakistani dramas who refuse to take responsibility for their actions. This character has confused the viewers more than once since his actions most often do not match what the viewers perceive from his interactions with different characters. He lead Mashal on and then was surprised that she felt led down when he could not commit to her. He also fell for every single lie he was told and the ‘punishment’ he chose for Mehreen had to be the worst part of his track! After telling Mehreen that he married her so that he could punish her for the rest of her life, he was ready to leave for America! Aswad has us wondering, what does he want? We are just as clueless as he is! He is a ‘polished’ and modern version of Azar!

Nimra (Ishq Hai)

Another day, another obsessed idiotic character who would do anything to get married to a married man, why? Because her sister instilled the idea of her and Shahzaib into her empty brain and she couldn’t think straight after that! This was the only reason that was given to justify the way Nimra behaved like a lunatic chasing after Shahzaib. She was never held accountable for her obsessive nature, rather her sister Sameera was shown to be smirking about the fact that she has been blessed with a younger sister like Nimra who can’t use her brains because she doesn’t have one in her skull. Mahenur Haider really needs to go for more easy and subtle characters, even if she is playing a negative one. Seeing her screaming in Ishq Hai made us want to throw the TV out of the window. Her screeching would put the tyres of any luxury car to shame, she was intolerable!

Haris (Ishq Hai)

Another day, another loser in the history of Pakistani dramas. It won’t be wrong to say that this loserish character was played convincingly by Hammad Shoaib but because his dialogue delivery is so so weak, it made it hard to take him seriously in Ishq Hai – not that he was meant to be taken seriously in the first place. Haris had absolutely nothing going on in his life that is why the moment he landed from London, he fell in love with Isra so hard that he couldn’t imagine living his life without her, despite knowing that she was in love and even married to Shahzaib. Haris was shown to be a London ka aashiq but ended up looking like a landay ka aashiq!

Abba Miyan (Qissa Meherbano Ka)

We’re pretty sure the vase that fell on Abba Miyan’s head in the drama serial Neeli Zinda Hai is showing its adverse effects in Qissa Meherbano Ka. This is the only justification that could be used for Abba Miyan’s non-sensical behavior and uselessness. Abba Miyan is shown to be such an emotional wreck that he literally ended up ruining his son’s life and only to compensate for what he did, he ended up ruining 10 years of Meherbano’s life too. Abba Miyan has so much property but he thinks it is perfectly fine to let his remaining 2 family members starve but not sell out those properties, shift to a smaller house and lead a life decently. Abba Miyan always has a no for an answer citing money issues as an excuse, which makes one wonder why does he like to hover in such a huge mansion aimlessly and how does he manage the cleaning now that Meherbano is gone and Noor is pretty useless too. Mohammad Ahmed is such a fine actor, it is painful to see him portraying such a character that has absolutely nothing to offer.

Mariam (Mere Apne)

Another day, another desperado dying to get married to her cousin who was happily married to his cousin, lol. Not sure whether to call her Mariam or ping pong ball because she left no stone unturned in making her way into her Khala’s house by hook or by crook. First, she was mentally in love with Umar, then after he got married to Neha, Mariam agreed to get married to Umar’s younger brother Usama, so much so that she pressurized her mother to pursue this proposal. After Usama rejected her, Mariam left Umar and Usama and after killing her sister and her unborn child, she happily got married to her sister’s husband Kashif. Her only motive behind getting married to Kashif was that she wanted to make Neha’s life miserable who was now a widow of Umar, whom Mariam loved with all her heart? How twisted and psychotic a character be, you can look at Mariam. Inaya Khan is a very confident actor, therefore she should choose her projects wisely and not settle for such cheap characters.

Raheela (Kasa e Dil)

Raheela was another gone case who was taking revenge from her sister-in-law Somya only because the khala ka beta she loved was in love with Somya. Raheela succeeded in creating so many misunderstandings between Somya and Hatim that they called their wedding off, but she didn’t stop there. After Somya got married to Adan, she continued to make her life miserable by creating more misunderstandings and adding fuel to the fire. It was frustrating to see such a negative character who absolutely had no life of her own and the only motive of her life was to ruin relationships – she was working as a perfect agent of Shaitaan by causing a rift between a husband and a wife. We’re sure by the time the drama ended, she must’ve gotten a lot of bonuses and increments for being an employee of the season. Sukaina Khan is a good actor too, she definitely should pick her characters wisely.

Asma (Dour)

When the drama serial Dour began, Asma was shown to be a confident young girl who was not afraid of speaking her mind. She was raised like that by her father but after getting married, it is frustrating to see her struggling to even speak about basic things which need some explanation to clear the air about herself. She is being constantly misunderstood and Asma’s frustrating silence adds more to it.
